- 0:44Speaker 2: Kraken looking to bounce back from a loss in regulation,
- 0:47Speaker 2: but they took Carolina down to the wire and all
- 0:50Speaker 2: things considered, kept this close when fatigue could have been
- 0:54Speaker 2: a factor considering what the two teams faced in the
- 0:58Speaker 2: prior days as well. Get to highlights in a bit here,
- 1:01Speaker 2: but also joining us for this drop will be Kracking
- 1:04Speaker 2: head coach Lane Lambert and his reaction after the game
- 1:07Speaker 2: in Carolina. Plus we'll also check in with Crack and
- 1:11Speaker 2: CEO todd Lywiki. He joined Ian Ferness back on his

- 1:17Speaker 2: to three KJARFM. Todd Lwiki coming up in just a
- 1:21Speaker 2: ben in case you may have missed his conversation.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Well.
- 1:24Speaker 2: The Kraken, entering game one of a five game road trip,
- 1:27Speaker 2: faced quite the challenge. It was only just two days
- 1:30Speaker 2: prior they played a home game and then face a
- 1:33Speaker 2: day of travel west coast to east coast and facing
- 1:37Speaker 2: a Hurricane's team that had come off two days rest,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and the Kraken certainly felt the effects, going down one
- 1:44Speaker 2: nothing early on on a goal by Logan stankovin three
- 1:48Speaker 2: minutes and twenty three seconds into the game. After that,
- 1:52Speaker 2: the Kraken took over with their budding top line center
- 1:56Speaker 2: aiming for the highlight reels.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Touch the call left side overtaken by Maddy Veneers.
- 2:01Speaker 5: But hears what a move down the slot scors maddieveniers
- 2:09Speaker 5: On dresses the Hurricane defender coming over the line, walks
- 2:14Speaker 5: down the slot, tucks it by Bussy.
- 2:16Speaker 6: We're tied one to one.
- 2:18Speaker 7: Oh, it just makes a sick move right at the
- 2:20Speaker 7: blue line on the cane defenseman outside in between the legs,
- 2:24Speaker 7: and then beats Kin's goaltend or Bussy down low. This
- 2:28Speaker 7: game's tied at one. Somebody call it ESPN. That's gonna
- 2:30Speaker 7: be on the highlight. Reels cal flurry through center, hands
- 2:34Speaker 7: it up to Ryan Lingren. This fuck scents off the wall.
- 2:38Speaker 7: Bussy turns it over down the slot.
- 2:40Speaker 6: Berkley Catton scoress.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Berkley Catton has given the Kraken a two to one lead.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Bussy misplayed the butt and Seattle capitalizes.
- 2:54Speaker 6: Winterton to Caton two to one.
- 2:57Speaker 7: Seattle, well, it's winter that it jumps on that puck
- 3:00Speaker 7: in the court of the minute that Bussy misplays great,
- 3:02Speaker 7: we'd read by Winterton. He turns up byce Fines, finds
- 3:05Speaker 7: Canton in the high slought. Catton receives a great pass
- 3:08Speaker 7: from him on the forehead right between the hashts glove
- 3:11Speaker 7: side down load.
- 3:13Speaker 6: Capton's got his third of the year. Two to one.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Cracking now Jarvis back in, hands it off, Slavin throws
- 3:19Speaker 5: it download Slaven Androtlet's score.
- 3:22Speaker 6: Turn it stall in front of the goal back to
- 3:26Speaker 6: Jacob Slavin back to back for the Canes.
- 3:29Speaker 2: They lead three to two, and after all that adventure,
- 3:32Speaker 2: it was Carolina prevailing over the crack in three to
- 3:35Speaker 2: at Lenovo Center. Despite the efforts from Joey to Cord
- 3:38Speaker 2: and Ned who turned in thirty one saves on thirty
- 3:41Speaker 2: four shots. Randon Bussy back down the other way, wasn't
- 3:44Speaker 2: as busy, but effective enough for the win with ten
- 3:47Speaker 2: saves on twelve shots. Berkeley Catton as well, picking up
- 3:51Speaker 2: his third goal in three games since breaking through for
- 3:54Speaker 2: his first career NHL goal. After the game, here's a
- 3:58Speaker 2: reaction from crackinghead coach Lamberts.
- 4:00Speaker 8: I mean, it was a hard fought game. You know,
- 4:03Speaker 8: they're very good in this building. Uh, you know, they're
- 4:07Speaker 8: very good at squelching opportunities. I thought when we did
- 4:10Speaker 8: have some chances, we uh failed on them, whether it
- 4:13Speaker 8: be got them blocked or missed the net, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 8: because there were there were enough for us. I thought
- 4:20Speaker 8: our goalie played well. And when you carry a to
- 4:24Speaker 8: one lead, you know into the last ten minutes of
- 4:26Speaker 8: the third period, you have to find a way to
- 4:30Speaker 8: get points. And you know we have been lately and
- 4:33Speaker 8: and we weren't before that. So we just have to
- 4:38Speaker 8: pick ourselves up here and get ready for the next one.
- 4:40Speaker 1: What did you think of that?
- 4:41Speaker 8: Even hears his game, I thought he was really good.
- 4:44Speaker 8: You know, obviously scored a nice goal, but I thought
- 4:46Speaker 8: he was responsible all night long. I thought he battled
- 4:48Speaker 8: hard down a low in our zone, and I thought
- 4:51Speaker 8: he transported the book. Well, I bought Jayden Schwartz getting
- 4:54Speaker 8: back into the next Yeah, it's good to see him back.
- 4:57Speaker 8: I think he gives our team to boost and you
- 4:59Speaker 8: know that veteran leadership. So I thought he played pretty
- 5:02Speaker 8: good for his first game in a while.
- 5:05Speaker 6: Lan after the well, for you guys did six minutes
- 5:07Speaker 6: a minute there?
- 5:08Speaker 9: Did you feel like the guys were growing as hard
- 5:11Speaker 9: as you want him to and playing not just pretty
- 5:14Speaker 9: defensive web tiding taking their camps seasons?
- 5:16Speaker 8: Well, I thought we after they scored their second goal,
- 5:20Speaker 8: I thought, you know, and I thought maybe even after
- 5:23Speaker 8: we scored our second goal. I guess that's your question,
- 5:27Speaker 8: isn't it. You know, I didn't think I didn't think
- 5:30Speaker 8: we were aggressive enough. Carton scores Again.
- 5:34Speaker 9: You mentioned when he started scoring, maybe it would be
- 5:37Speaker 9: a bunch his must have liked to play that widchard
- 5:39Speaker 9: they had as well.
- 5:40Speaker 8: Winterton played great tonight. I thought, I thought it was
- 5:43Speaker 8: one of our best players, you know, all night long,
- 5:47Speaker 8: using his speed, creating some opportunities and made a real
- 5:49Speaker 8: nice play to Berkeley.
- 5:50Speaker 3: That's a halfway point of the season.
- 5:52Speaker 2: There are plenty of surprises right now with the Western
- 5:54Speaker 2: and the Eastern Conference, with the playoff mixed till very
- 5:57Speaker 2: much ways away from settling and self right now. Yet
- 6:00Speaker 2: the Kraken trying to rebound for the previous two seasons
- 6:04Speaker 2: out of the playoff mix now on the head coach
- 6:06Speaker 2: Lane Lambert and still very much in that mix right
- 6:09Speaker 2: now after going eight one and two in the last
- 6:12Speaker 2: eleven games heading into this matchup against the Rangers at
- 6:16Speaker 2: Madison Square Garden.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Yeah, past the halfway point.
- 6:19Speaker 2: There's time here to reflect on what's been built so
- 6:21Speaker 2: far and also how much coaching makes a difference with that.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Here's a conversation Ian Ferness had with Crack and CEO
- 6:30Speaker 2: Todd LEIWICKI.
- 6:31Speaker 10: Let's talk about this hockey team that is sitting right
- 6:33Speaker 10: in your first place, and it wasn't that long ago.
- 6:35Speaker 10: Three weeks ago, this team was on the verge of
- 6:37Speaker 10: being out of the playoffs. In a lot of ways,
- 6:39Speaker 10: what's going on.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Well, I think there's good chemistry in that locker room.
- 6:46Speaker 4: You know, we might not have a quote unquote superstar
- 6:49Speaker 4: on this team, but we have heart and the players
- 6:53Speaker 4: like playing together. And I was just down in the
- 6:55Speaker 4: locker room and it's amazing. I never get tired of
- 6:59Speaker 4: hanging out with the players. But you know, Jordan Everley's
- 7:03Speaker 4: in a pair of shorts and walking around holding a
- 7:05Speaker 4: hockey stick.
- 7:06Speaker 1: There's the day off of them, by the way.
- 7:07Speaker 6: Yeah, he loves it.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Yeah, he's walking around, he was holding his stick, and
- 7:12Speaker 4: you know Grooby's down there. And if you want to
- 7:15Speaker 4: learn about never giving up, his career took him all
- 7:20Speaker 4: the way down to Coachella Valley. He was the finalist
- 7:24Speaker 4: for the VESNA, but the year before he came here,
- 7:28Speaker 4: he was fundamental to the incredible run year two. But
- 7:31Speaker 4: he hit some rough patch there.
- 7:34Speaker 6: But he never gave up and.
- 7:35Speaker 4: He never lost the faith ultimately in himself. And since
- 7:39Speaker 4: November he has I think the best goals against average
- 7:42Speaker 4: in the NHL, and it's really amazing. And when you
- 7:46Speaker 4: have two goalies, we're actually carrying three, but those two
- 7:50Speaker 4: guys specifically playing that, well, that's how you win. Games,
- 7:55Speaker 4: and Joey Decord has played outstanding against you know, Boston.
- 8:02Speaker 4: He made some big, big saves. But you know, I
- 8:04Speaker 4: went up to that game in Vancouver and you know
- 8:07Speaker 4: he played great there. Grooby and Calgary. It's uh, it's
- 8:12Speaker 4: really fantastic and fun to watch, and it's why I've
- 8:14Speaker 4: loved sports all these years.
- 8:16Speaker 10: Todd LIGHTWICKI with us on our Daily power Play and
- 8:18Speaker 10: we're gonna actually we'll play some of this today. We'll
- 8:21Speaker 10: have some more daily power Play to more with Todd,
- 8:23Speaker 10: But I want to get to you and I had
- 8:26Speaker 10: a couple I think one of the first conversations I
- 8:27Speaker 10: ever had with you when you were at Seahawks and
- 8:30Speaker 10: I was critical on the air after Jim Morri got
- 8:33Speaker 10: let go after one year. You came up to me
- 8:34Speaker 10: and I told this story in the air. Number of
- 8:35Speaker 10: times you came up to me in city and you
- 8:37Speaker 10: know why you were in You were in the press
- 8:39Speaker 10: conference the little mar I think there's times you got
- 8:41Speaker 10: to make a tough decision to change. You did that
- 8:44Speaker 10: the last couple of years with two other coaches. You
- 8:46Speaker 10: brought Lane Lambert in coaching. Makes a difference. We see
- 8:50Speaker 10: that across the lake at your old employer with the Seahawks,
- 8:52Speaker 10: with Mike McDonald coaching makes a difference. What did you
- 8:55Speaker 10: guys see in Lane Lambert? Because there's no doubt he
- 8:57Speaker 10: has made a difference this year.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Yeah, he's you know, and you don't really know until
- 9:02Speaker 4: you get into the trench with someone, and that's hard.
- 9:06Speaker 4: And you know, I must admit that I WinCE when
- 9:08Speaker 4: I hear about, you know, our first coach leaving, our
- 9:13Speaker 4: second coach who took us in, you know, Dan Bilsman,
- 9:17Speaker 4: coach Hella Valley. Two years to the finals, there's thirty
- 9:19Speaker 4: two teams and it's everybody as competitive as any league
- 9:22Speaker 4: in the world, and so that was hard. But you know,
- 9:26Speaker 4: then we looked around and there was Lane Lambert, who
- 9:29Speaker 4: had been a part of winning programs. He was the
- 9:32Speaker 4: associate head coach in Toronto, and he just sort of
- 9:37Speaker 4: stood out as a guy who knew what the pieces
- 9:40Speaker 4: were to win and the approach he was going to take.
- 9:43Speaker 4: And you know, our media guy said, the locker room
- 9:46Speaker 4: last night was post game was as good as any
- 9:49Speaker 4: any locker room they'd ever been in in our world.
- 9:52Speaker 4: And so I think he's done a good job and
- 9:55Speaker 4: I think that you know, there's still work to be done.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Played by the Way last night with arguably what some
- 10:02Speaker 4: people think are two best players. You know, Jaden Schwartz
- 10:05Speaker 4: was out and I saw many down his hands rapped.
- 10:08Speaker 4: He's been out skating and I'm telling him, don't shoot, man,
- 10:11Speaker 4: don't shoot, and it's so tempting for him. But you know,
- 10:15Speaker 4: it's it's why people love it is because sometimes players
- 10:20Speaker 4: do things that no one thinks they can. And I
- 10:22Speaker 4: go back to Groopy. A lot of people thought his
- 10:26Speaker 4: days might be over. And you know, they say of
- 10:30Speaker 4: the hummingbird that everyone knows, you know, all the scientists
- 10:33Speaker 4: and physicists know that the humming bird can't fly. It's
- 10:36Speaker 4: winging masks is not large enough to support its body weight.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Everyone knows that, but the humming bird. And I've always
- 10:41Speaker 4: thought of like, you know, if you have in your
- 10:44Speaker 4: mind you can do something, anything is possible. And I
- 10:47Speaker 4: think that sports, and let's talk a little bit about
- 10:50Speaker 4: the Seahawks. Yeah, you know, the Mariners. There's a lot
- 10:54Speaker 4: of winning that's happening in this town. And this town
- 10:56Speaker 4: is is I think the greatest sports market in our
- 10:59Speaker 4: country and arguably the greatest sports market in the world,
- 11:03Speaker 4: per capita. No one has a better sports market.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Than we have.
- 11:07Speaker 4: And when you look at what the Mariners did and
- 11:10Speaker 4: how they've rebuilt that and you know they're GM Jerry,
- 11:14Speaker 4: we don't have a bigger fan. He is just an
- 11:17Speaker 4: incredible supporter. But you know, John Stanton a year ago
- 11:21Speaker 4: has taking a lot of heat, and boy, that team
- 11:23Speaker 4: and they're built and they're going to be good for
- 11:24Speaker 4: a long time to come. John Schneider reinventing that, the
- 11:29Speaker 4: ownership having the belief in John that he'd do it,
- 11:33Speaker 4: and they didn't rebuild on the fly. Look what happened.
- 11:37Speaker 4: And I'm here to tell you they're going to the
- 11:40Speaker 4: big game because I just think they have it going.
- 11:44Speaker 4: They're hitting at the right time and you know, and
- 11:47Speaker 4: what they did this past weekend was incredible. The score
- 11:52Speaker 4: should have been even greater than what it was, but
- 11:55Speaker 4: they want into the other guy's building and that game
- 11:58Speaker 4: was even more important for San Francis then, and it
- 12:02Speaker 4: was just fantastic. And if you look at that roster
- 12:04Speaker 4: top to bottom, they've got everyone playing with passion and
- 12:08Speaker 4: purpose and it's an incredible thing. And the players are
- 12:10Speaker 4: proud to pull that jersey up.
- 12:11Speaker 2: All right, Gray stuff for me in big thanks to
- 12:13Speaker 2: Todd as well for joining our airwaves that conversation by
- 12:16Speaker 2: the Way podcast and in full on the Ian Fornest Show,
- 12:20Speaker 2: also via the iHeartRadio app as a crack and now
- 12:23Speaker 2: getting sets for this second matchup of two against the
- 12:27Speaker 2: Rangers and looking to split the series after the Rangers
- 12:30Speaker 2: beat them by a nose hair three to two in
- 12:32Speaker 2: overtime back at Climbing Pledge Arena on November one, and
- 12:36Speaker 2: without question, your big story of the night is going
- 12:39Speaker 2: to revolve around these two former Rangers coming back in
- 12:43Speaker 2: now as part of the visiting side.
- 12:45Speaker 7: You're ev its sing toe across Janny Duman now who
- 12:48Speaker 7: evitts down.
- 12:49Speaker 6: The slot shot tip scoress.
- 12:54Speaker 5: A shot from Riker Evans redirected in by go.
- 13:01Speaker 9: I feel I just got a chance over here. I
- 13:04Speaker 9: mean I can't say I didn't get it before, but
- 13:09Speaker 9: I mean I played with Maddie. We kind of pretty fast.
- 13:13Speaker 9: We knew each other pretty well and then kind of
- 13:16Speaker 9: know what what we're going to do on the ice,
- 13:18Speaker 9: and I feel he knows what I can do and
- 13:21Speaker 9: I know what he can do. Also, there was Swarts.
- 13:26Speaker 9: He was a lot with us, and I feel we
- 13:28Speaker 9: had a pretty good line and some very good games.
- 13:31Speaker 9: But I mean, I feel we kind of all of
- 13:34Speaker 9: us knew what we should do out there, and then
- 13:38Speaker 9: you know, I was in the corner store behind the net,
- 13:41Speaker 9: close to the net, doing my things, and then I mean,
- 13:45Speaker 9: like I said, it's just all new what what we
- 13:47Speaker 9: should do?
- 13:48Speaker 6: Left circle say shut stood?
- 13:53Speaker 5: Ryan Langrid from the left circle may have deflected in
- 13:57Speaker 5: with the seattle cracking back on top.
- 13:59Speaker 6: It's a three two cracking lead.
- 14:02Speaker 7: Well, if this goes down as Lingeran's goal, it'll be
- 14:04Speaker 7: his first of the season. It was a great shot
- 14:06Speaker 7: by him as he waited for the screen going to
- 14:08Speaker 7: the front of the net. I believe it was Tolven
- 14:10Speaker 7: and heading towards the front. It may have gone off
- 14:12Speaker 7: of him. We're having a look here. It didn't redirect,
- 14:16Speaker 7: but it could have gone off of a sharp player
- 14:18Speaker 7: as well.
- 14:18Speaker 2: January twelfth on the calendar, a return to Madison Square Garden.
- 14:22Speaker 3: How much are you circling that date? Yeah, I'm definitely
- 14:25Speaker 3: looking forward to it.
- 14:27Speaker 7: You know, obviously we got you know, a lot of
- 14:29Speaker 7: games before then, but that's definitely one I'm excited for.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And yeah, it'll be cool playing in there again.
- 14:35Speaker 2: No shortage of motivation for defenseman Ryan Lindgren and winger
- 14:39Speaker 2: Coppo Kaco, who will make their first appearance at Madison
- 14:42Speaker 2: Square Garden since they left the Rangers. Len Grand, of course,
- 14:47Speaker 2: traded from the Rangers to Colorado last March in a
- 14:50Speaker 2: four player deal. He then signed with the Kraken as
- 14:53Speaker 2: a free agent on July one. Coppo Coco coming directly
- 14:57Speaker 2: to Seattle from the Rangers, of course, and last season
- 15:00Speaker 2: trade back in the eighteenth of December, the two combining
- 15:03Speaker 2: for twelve seasons in the Big Apple in Rangers Jersey,
- 15:07Speaker 2: so certainly an emotional return coming no matter how you
- 15:10Speaker 2: slice it here, and the Kraken trying to rally around
- 15:13Speaker 2: that in this second of two matchups on the campaign.
- 15:17Speaker 2: On the other side, of course, the Rangers have a
- 15:18Speaker 2: couple of former Kraken players, though they have seen them
- 15:21Speaker 2: in prior matchups in Carson Susi and Will Borgan. But
- 15:24Speaker 2: the Rangers right now are smarting a bit after coming
- 15:28Speaker 2: off a ten to two thumping on the wrong side
- 15:31Speaker 2: to the Boston Bruins back on Saturday afternoon.
- 15:35Speaker 3: They had one point led one nothing in this game.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Jonathan Quick started but then was yanked after allowing six
- 15:40Speaker 2: goals on twenty shots, Spencer Martin coming in to back
- 15:43Speaker 2: come up. He gave up four goals on fourteen shots
- 15:46Speaker 2: as Morant Husnadinov and Pavel Zaka each picked up patricks,
- 15:50Speaker 2: while David Pasternak had six assists on the Bruins side,
- 15:54Speaker 2: just the third player in franchise history to earn six
- 15:58Speaker 2: assists in one game. Martin coming in was necessary because
- 16:02Speaker 2: the Rangers right now not just smarting here from the
- 16:05Speaker 2: ten to two loss, but also smarting on the injury front.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Defenseman Adam Fox was placed on LTIR Reportedly he'll be
- 16:12Speaker 2: out until at least the thirty first of January with
- 16:15Speaker 2: a lower body injury, and goaltender Igor Shasterkin as well
- 16:19Speaker 2: is on the shelf. He's also out lower body ailment,
- 16:22Speaker 2: but is due to be back with the Rangers before
- 16:25Speaker 2: Fox will come back into the lineup. Additionally, Jordan Everley
- 16:29Speaker 2: for the crack inside. He missed his second straight game
- 16:32Speaker 2: against Carolina upper body ailment. He is not on IR
- 16:36Speaker 2: plus will also monitor the potential return of Chandler Stevenson
- 16:40Speaker 2: after he and his wife Tasha welcomed their third child
- 16:43Speaker 2: into the world, daughter Kala, born on Friday evening. We'll
- 16:47Speaker 2: have all the details covered for you, by the way,
- 16:49Speaker 2: coming up again later on today with your pregame show
- 16:52Speaker 2: at three thirty. Andrewshurst is back at Network Central. Myself
- 16:57Speaker 2: Al Kaniski will be in the booth there for all
- 16:59Speaker 2: the play by play action from Madison Square Garden, opening
- 17:02Speaker 2: up a little past four pm Pacific time. All across
- 17:05Speaker 2: the Global Credit Union Crakein Audio Network. Big thank you
- 17:08Speaker 2: to Ian forness and also for todd Leiwiki and for
- 17:11Speaker 2: kracking this morning. I'm Mike Benton. Have a happy Monday
- 17:14Speaker 2: and enjoy the game.
- 17:15Speaker 1: You're home for the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
- 17:19Speaker 1: three kJ R FM.
