- 0:10Heating and Cooling hey Nathan,
- 0:13hey how are you i am doing well thank you for asking a questions come into the
- 0:17radio program may I pose this one to you so you can answer it in your expertise
- 0:21way okay sounds good question The question is,
- 0:25what size heating system or furnace do I need for my home?
- 0:29How does someone actually know how to size that?
- 0:34Great question. So, you know, there's a lot of rules of thumb out there and people go by those.
- 0:41Unfortunately, there's a lot of third party studies by Consumer Reports and different ones.
- 0:47And, you know, majority of systems are improperly sized in homes today.
- 0:51And so sizing is a huge thing. Oftentimes people say, well, give me the biggest one. That'll be better.
- 0:56And oftentimes that's actually quite the opposite. And so we want to make sure we're properly sized.
- 1:01We don't want to oversize the system, but you also want a system that's too
- 1:04small and doesn't satisfy the needs of the home.
- 1:06And so there's a lot actually that goes into the sizing of a system. them.
- 1:10What needs to be done is what's called a proper load calculation on the house.
- 1:16And so we take things into consideration such as the window,
- 1:20the size of the windows, the types of the windows, the doors,
- 1:23size and types of those, the flooring, the type of flooring,
- 1:27is it on a cross space, a slab, a basement, insulation values in the walls,
- 1:32insulation values in the ceiling,
- 1:34which way the house is facing, northeast, south, or west, how many people live in the home.
- 1:39All of these things go into consideration of properly sizing a system.
- 1:43And so we take all that information. We gather all that. Our comfort specialists
- 1:46take all that forward. It's just nothing that you have to do as the homeowner.
- 1:50But we gather all that information. We put that into our software programs.
- 1:54And it's able to calculate exactly what size of system that house and that family
- 1:58needs that, A, properly and accurately keeps them comfortable.
- 2:02And, two, is efficient to operate when it comes to the utility side of things.
- 2:08Here's a question. What if a customer says, well, that sounds great,
- 2:14but we were told differently by another company?
- 2:18Does that happen or is everybody on the same page?
- 2:22I wish everybody was on the same page, but unfortunately not.
- 2:27The thing is, if they're not saying that, you can do your homework and do some
- 2:31research, and you'll find that that is the proper way to do it.
- 2:35Um, and if you have someone that comes out and says hey, that's that's not that's
- 2:38not necessary It's not needed.
- 2:40You know, you've got you know, this size of furnace now.
- 2:43It's always worked. Great. Great Let's just go with that same size again Um,
- 2:47you can go to find oftentimes you're going to have issues the new systems the
- 2:50old systems like your old car You could get away with a lot more you could fix
- 2:53a lot of things with a couple wrenches Right now you can't you got to have the
- 2:57right computers and diagnostics and things and they have a lot of safety switches and things in place.
- 3:02Your HVAC equipment is no different. And so the old systems,
- 3:05what we thought may have been working great all these years,
- 3:08may not been working just as great as you thought it was.
- 3:11When you go to put a new system in, there's a lot of safety switches and mechanisms
- 3:15and things on that furnace that's going to keep that system from not allow it
- 3:20to work under certain parameters.
- 3:22And so we want to make sure that that system is sized correctly so that you
- 3:25don't have those issues. But if someone says that, I would ask them why that is.
- 3:31Oftentimes, it's either A, they haven't had the proper training or don't know,
- 3:35or worse yet, B, they do know that's necessary and they just choose not to because
- 3:40they want to take the easier route, the faster route. Yeah, this is all good stuff.
