- 0:00Welcome back, guys. Welcome to Fostering Faith.
- 0:03I'll be your host, Tracy, and we are in the episode
- 0:06where the month of May, we are talking about
- 0:09faith that moves. And we're going to be talking
- 0:11about generosity and radical kindness because
- 0:15we live in a world when we're obsessed with getting
- 0:17more, getting ahead, getting noticed, getting
- 0:20credit and getting what's mine. But the kingdom
- 0:23God flips upside down because in the kingdom,
- 0:27greatness is measured by what you give, not what
- 0:29you keep. and strength is measured by what you
- 0:32pour out and not what you hold on too tight and
- 0:36love is measured by the willingness to be radically
- 0:38kind especially when kindness costs you something
- 0:42and this week we're going to be talking about
- 0:44kingdom generosity and no we're not talking about
- 0:47money you can keep your money in your wallet
- 0:49it's fine we're not asking for a donation we're
- 0:52not asking you to give it's not just about money
- 0:55guys it's about your time your words your presence,
- 1:01your compassion, your presence, your forgiveness,
- 1:06and your heart. Because you cannot follow Jesus
- 1:09closely without becoming generously deeply. And
- 1:14generosity isn't a personality trait. It's a
- 1:17discipleship trait. Kindness isn't a soft kill.
- 1:20It's a spiritual weapon. And giving isn't quote
- 1:25unquote extra. It's essential. And with the Holy
- 1:29Spirit transferring your heart, generosity becomes
- 1:32a reflex. And God is the most generous person
- 1:36that you will ever know. Everything in your faith
- 1:39begins with this truth. For God so loved the
- 1:43world, He gave. John 3 .16 God didn't give alone.
- 1:49He didn't bargain. He didn't negotiate. God didn't
- 1:53partially or cautiously. He gave. fully, sacrificially,
- 2:00joyfully, lavishly, freely, and most importantly,
- 2:07willing. You serve the most generous being in
- 2:10existence. And when you follow Jesus, His generosity
- 2:14becomes your blueprint. We give because He gave
- 2:19first. And genuine generosity is more than money.
- 2:23Money is the smallest part of generosity. Jesus
- 2:27never applauded the rich. He applauded the widow
- 2:30who gave the two coins. Not because of the amount,
- 2:34but because of her heart. Generosity shows up
- 2:39when how quickly free you forgive, how freely
- 2:43you compliment, how willing you help, how kindly
- 2:48you speak, how patiently you respond, how intentionally
- 2:53you include people, how you gently Correct. How
- 2:58you humbly serve. How you sacrificially love.
- 3:03And how often you say yes to God. And generosity
- 3:09is a heart posture. It's not transactional. Some
- 3:12of the most generous people never wrote a big
- 3:16check. They gave big kindness. Radical kindness
- 3:20is a spiritual warfare. Kindness looks soft on
- 3:24the outside. but it is violent against darkness.
- 3:28Scripture says it like this, do not be overcome
- 3:32by evil, but overcome evil with good. In Romans
- 3:3612, 21, and kindness breaks bitterness, coldness,
- 3:43indifference, entitlement, division, hostility,
- 3:49resentment, spiritual resistance, kindness, disarms
- 3:55the enemy. Kindness interrupts the cycle of hurt.
- 4:00Kindness heals wounds that you never see. Kindness
- 4:05reflects the Father's heart, and hell cannot
- 4:09imitate God's heart. And you know that the most
- 4:16underrated spiritual gift is kindness. We talked
- 4:20about it in an episode In the beginning, we went
- 4:24through the fruits of the spirit last year in
- 4:26December and we went through the fruits of the
- 4:28spirit where our love, joy, peace, patience,
- 4:30kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self -control.
- 4:32And I think we bundled kindness and gentleness
- 4:35together. But kindness shakes the atmosphere
- 4:39in a room quicker than a sermon. And so spirit
- 4:44of generosity versus a spirit of scarcity. And
- 4:48so scarcity means there isn't enough. Scarcity
- 4:52produces fear, stinginess, self -protection,
- 4:57anxiety, jealousy, comparison, withholding, resentment
- 5:03when others are blessed. Scarcity says, I have
- 5:07to hold on to mine because I might lose it. And
- 5:11please know, I can't talk about things that...
- 5:14It has not affected me. So several years ago
- 5:17I had a mindset of scarcity. There's not enough.
- 5:20I grew up poor. I grew up not, we didn't have
- 5:23a lot of money. I had a great childhood. Don't
- 5:24get me wrong. But in that same instance, scarcity,
- 5:28I had a scarcity mindset because what if I don't
- 5:30have enough? What happens if I don't have enough
- 5:32to take care of my family? What happens if I
- 5:33don't have enough for this? Not trusting of a
- 5:37God who makes it all. And so I had fear. I had
- 5:42steadiness. I had self -protection. I was going
- 5:43to save all this money because that was going
- 5:45to keep me. And you had Steve Jobs and he said,
- 5:50I have all the money in the world and I'm still
- 5:52going to die of pancreatic cancer. You have people
- 5:55that have the fame, the fortune, and it's never
- 5:58enough. And then when I think it's going to be
- 6:00enough and we can talk medical for a second.
- 6:02And so there's never enough. There's always another
- 6:04one. There's always another one. It's dopamine
- 6:06after dopamine. And then you get to the final
- 6:08top. and then you're disappointed because it's
- 6:11never gonna be enough. And so when is enough
- 6:14enough? A million dollars? A billion dollars?
- 6:17You're taking four months vacation? When is enough?
- 6:21And so ask yourself that question, will there
- 6:26ever be enough? And so I had that spirit of scarcity
- 6:32and I read a book by Robert Morris called The
- 6:35Beyond Blessed Life or The Blessed Life. And
- 6:38it broke the chains of scarcity, because my God
- 6:41is not a God of scarcity. He's a God of generosity.
- 6:43He's a God of overabundance. And what is mine
- 6:46was His first. And so I have nothing. So everything
- 6:50I have is His. And so if He gave it to me, He
- 6:52can have it. will give and do time, money, words,
- 6:58whatever he puts on my heart, I'm gonna do it,
- 7:00because I did not follow him for a very long
- 7:03time. And living generous, that is where it's
- 7:07at, guys. That is where it's at, just to give
- 7:09generously above and beyond your time, your effort,
- 7:12your talents, your wisdom, just pouring into
- 7:15the next generation. And it is just, it's so
- 7:19much more fulfilling. And so we move into generosity.
- 7:23And I learned that God always provides, but He
- 7:26doesn't always provide when we need it. He provides
- 7:30whatever He feels like we need it. And He provides
- 7:34abundantly and above. And my word for this year
- 7:37is overflow for next year, for 2026. And so I'm
- 7:40recording this the year prior. And so I'm letting
- 7:43you guys know that my year in 2026 is overflow.
- 7:46My verse this year has been or will be Jeremiah
- 7:5029, 11. And so my God provides overtly and abundantly
- 7:54because He owns everything. There is nothing
- 7:56that He cannot give. There's nothing that He
- 7:58cannot fix. And so we serve a generous Father.
- 8:02And so generosity produces peace and joy, faith
- 8:06and freedom, gratitude and open hands, excitement
- 8:10to bless others. Guys, I cannot, I'm like literally
- 8:13smiling as I'm just talking about this because
- 8:16generosity, I mean, is, there's no better way.
- 8:22Just to spend time with people just to sit down
- 8:25and hear their stories listen to them and just
- 8:27be generous with your time Be generous with your
- 8:30offerings be generous with your money be generous
- 8:31with your words be generous with gratitude and
- 8:35thankfulness it really does just change the atmosphere
- 8:38and Generosity says I can give this away because
- 8:42God is my source. He is this source. He is the
- 8:45water he is the The river that is filling up
- 8:50my ocean And so one mindset shrinks your world
- 8:55and the other one makes it endless. Jesus notices
- 9:00that most unlikely givers is the widow, the woman
- 9:06with the alabaster jar, that little boy with
- 9:09the lunch, that key is giving back fourfold.
- 9:13In the early church, it's selling property to
- 9:16take care of the poor. And he never praised the
- 9:19amount, only the heart. And so God doesn't measure
- 9:24giving the way that people do. People ask how
- 9:27much. God asks, how's your surrender? Generosity
- 9:31is a heart issue, not a math issue. And please
- 9:36know, if you ever are trying to solve God math,
- 9:40good luck, because it's not going to work. He
- 9:42says, give this. And you said, I don't have that.
- 9:46And he says, but do you trust me? And we do this
- 9:50all at the end of the year, offering, giving,
- 9:53and He has stretched us every year further and
- 9:57further. And we do it as a family, we pray about
- 9:59it. And I ask for unity in the number that we're
- 10:02supposed to give because as a family, I want
- 10:04them and my husband and my daughter to see God
- 10:06move and how we all, we won't talk about it,
- 10:09we pray about it, and we all come up. with the
- 10:13same number because we pray about it, because
- 10:15we serve the same God. We are going to the guy
- 10:17that has the answers and he knows what is sacrificial
- 10:20for us. He knows what's in our bank account.
- 10:22He put it there. And so if he tells us to give
- 10:24and it is just amazing of what he has done to
- 10:28my heart, what he's done to my husbands and my
- 10:30daughters over the years. And it is such. a blessing
- 10:34to bless others. And not just financially, just
- 10:37with time and talent and just everything that
- 10:39He has put in you to serve others. Guys, there
- 10:44is no better job is to be an ambassador of Christ,
- 10:47to be a co -heir to Jesus. It's just so good.
- 10:51And so the most radical kindness Jesus ever taught
- 10:55was the moment in Luke 6. And it cuts deep. It
- 10:58says, love your enemies, do good to them, bless
- 11:01them who curse you, pray for those who mistreat
- 11:03you, not tolerate them, not avoid them, not remain
- 11:08neutral towards them, but love them, do good
- 11:12to them, bless them, pray for them. That is radical
- 11:17kindness. That is super natural generosity. You
- 11:22cannot do that without the Holy Spirit. If someone
- 11:25curses you, and then you pray for them or they
- 11:29are just really in need and for some reason you're
- 11:33blessed with something that they need and you
- 11:35give it away because it just makes your heart
- 11:38sing to help someone else out and that really
- 11:43is it changes the atmosphere and why generosity
- 11:46and kindness matter to your faith because there's
- 11:50three spiritual truths one your trust You trust
- 11:55God as your provider. Generosity proves that
- 11:58God, not money, not people, and not circumstances,
- 12:03is your source. 2. You reflect Jesus. Kindness
- 12:08proves that you know what grace feels like. 3.
- 12:13You know your purpose. You understand that God
- 12:16blesses you to be a blessing. A Sinji Christian
- 12:20is a contradiction. A harsh Christian is a contradiction.
- 12:26And a self -centered Christian is a contradiction.
- 12:31When Jesus fills your heart, kindness overflows.
- 12:36And so check your heart. Are you stingy? Are
- 12:39you harsh? Are you self -centered? Sit with the
- 12:43Holy Spirit and let him just search your heart
- 12:47and see how that reflection is. And so what does
- 12:51generosity look in real life? This is the part
- 12:54where it's really practical and it's what it
- 12:58really can look like in life. Praying for someone
- 13:02quietly. Paying for someone quietly. Giving someone
- 13:07your seat. Encouraging someone intentionally.
- 13:12Forgiving quickly. Babysitting for a tired mom.
- 13:16Buying groceries for someone that's struggling.
- 13:19Sending a Venmo without explaining anything.
- 13:22Making space for someone that's lonely. Susprising
- 13:26your teen or your co -workers with lunch money.
- 13:30Writing a handwritten note. Offering grace when
- 13:34someone snaps. Helping your neighbor with yard
- 13:37work. Listening when someone needs to talk. Tipping
- 13:41generously when the service was slow. Smiling
- 13:46at someone who looks unseen. Generosity makes
- 13:50the invisible God visible. The enemy can't stay
- 13:55in generosity. Why? Because generosity breaks
- 13:58selfishness, bitterness, pride, fear, division,
- 14:03greed, and insecurity. It just breaks a judgmental
- 14:10attitude. It is impossible to be both grateful
- 14:14and stingy. And it's impossible to be both spirit
- 14:18-filled and unkind. When generosity fills your
- 14:21heart, darkness loses its grip. And so in your
- 14:25workbook this week, we invite you to go into
- 14:28Fostering Faith Media's website, and we have
- 14:31month after month, week after week. workbook
- 14:34for reflections because we want at the end of
- 14:36this year for you to be transformed. And so whenever
- 14:39I started seminary and the very first class,
- 14:42he said, it's not about your grades, it's about
- 14:44your transformation. And so as we foster our
- 14:47faith together, as we are walking through this
- 14:49and we are imperfect people, just worshiping
- 14:52a perfect God, we've created workbooks. And so
- 14:55we can write these things down and we can learn
- 14:57and we can wrestle with God with them and we
- 14:58can sit with the Holy Spirit. And so this week,
- 15:01Where is God inviting you to be radically generous
- 15:04or kind this week? And so, in your home, in your
- 15:09church, in your workspace, in your relationships,
- 15:14is God like highlighting someone specific? A
- 15:18person that hurt you? Someone who needs encouragement?
- 15:23A family that's struggling? A teen who needs
- 15:25love? Or someone that just feels alone? Write
- 15:30with the Spirit. brings to mind. And write one
- 15:34radical, generous, or kindness that you will
- 15:38commit to this week. But actually do it. Pay
- 15:42someone's bills. Cook a meal. Drop off some flowers.
- 15:46Give a gift card. Write a note that heals. Pray
- 15:49intentionally for somebody. Show up for somebody.
- 15:52Forgive someone fully. Donate something meatiful,
- 15:55not leftover. Serve someone who can't repay you.
- 15:59And that one act of kindness can reroute someone's
- 16:03entire week or even life. You have that power
- 16:08because God was so kind to you, we are kind to
- 16:12others. He's been so generous to us, despite
- 16:15our best efforts. And so we get to be generous
- 16:18to others. The best life is with our hands open
- 16:23wide and not holding onto anything because He
- 16:26gave us everything. and he has the permission
- 16:29to take it. And so if this message encouraged
- 16:31you, if this sparks some interest, if you know
- 16:33some Cindy people, maybe send it to them. Share
- 16:37it in your small group. Help our podcast grow
- 16:39because we are a podcast of fostering our faith
- 16:42together and we are better in community. We're
- 16:45better together. And so we would love to pray
- 16:47for you guys. Lord, thank you for today. Thank
- 16:50you for yesterday. Thank you that you are making
- 16:52us generous like you. Thank you that you're replacing
- 16:55a spirit of sacred with trust. Thank you that
- 16:57you're filling our hearts with radical kindness.
- 16:59Thank you that you're opening our eyes to needs.
- 17:01Thank you that you're making us bold and joyful
- 17:03and sacrificial and loving others. Thank you
- 17:05that your generosity flows through us to go into
- 17:08the world so they can see your goodness. Thank
- 17:11you for everything that you do. In Jesus name
- 17:13I pray. Amen. Amen. We hope that you guys were
- 17:17inspired by this message. We love you guys. See
- 17:19you next week.
