- 0:02Speaker 1: Radio radio Radio Commies, a myth and bullshit radio phonic
- 0:17Speaker 1: novella Look at a Radio hosted by malamo Ala locomotives.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Welcome back to look at the Radio. This is Mala
- 0:27Speaker 1: and this is Theosa and we're last local and of
- 0:30Speaker 1: course we're recording um here at Radio Espascio where we
- 0:33Speaker 1: always record look at our radio. Thank you for joining
- 0:37Speaker 1: us once again for another thank you for tuning in.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Look at that our radio is a radio phonic novella.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Are having the brilliant legacies and geniuses of women and
- 0:46Speaker 1: fems of color? Yes, yes we are, Yes, so happy
- 0:49Speaker 1: to be here, Happy February. I feel like it's been
- 0:52Speaker 1: so long since we last recorded. Yes, we kind of
- 0:55Speaker 1: just like put out three caplos in like a span
- 0:58Speaker 1: of a week, and then we're like, okay, were we
- 1:00Speaker 1: gotta we gotta travel to Oregon. Oh and did we travel? Yes,
- 1:03Speaker 1: we did, we traveled. Yes. So the January February two,
- 1:09Speaker 1: we were in Oregon. UM the University of Oregon MITSCHA
- 1:14Speaker 1: and the Multicultural Center and the Uo mo hit Is
- 1:19Speaker 1: Organization invited us out to do a workshop to workshops
- 1:24Speaker 1: and a keynote, and we have so much to say
- 1:27Speaker 1: it was really fun. Also, can I just say, elephant
- 1:29Speaker 1: in the room. We're recording for YouTube now, and I
- 1:31Speaker 1: think we're still adjusting. We are still adjusted because it's
- 1:34Speaker 1: like the cameras like having a third look here, like
- 1:38Speaker 1: our third member that were still getting used to. Oh god,
- 1:41Speaker 1: hey everyone, hey everybody. So no, we went to Oregon.
- 1:46Speaker 1: We were in Eugene, um, which it was my first
- 1:49Speaker 1: time in Oregon. I've never been to Oregon before. Um,
- 1:52Speaker 1: and I thought it was beautiful, so green, the air
- 1:55Speaker 1: was so clean. Yeah, we're so cold. We were like,
- 1:59Speaker 1: let's clean out our lens. Let's get this l a
- 2:01Speaker 1: small residue, you know, the l a grime because LA
- 2:05Speaker 1: can be very grimy. Yeah. Um. And so first we
- 2:08Speaker 1: got there and of course the students picked us up.
- 2:10Speaker 1: They took us to our hotel and they got us
- 2:12Speaker 1: a really nice hotel. You know. Um, we hung out. Yeah,
- 2:16Speaker 1: it was basically like a little mini look at that
- 2:18Speaker 1: retreat because we honestly, we didn't have time to really
- 2:21Speaker 1: do any sight seeing and to go around Eugene unfortunately.
- 2:25Speaker 1: But you know, we got a lot of work done
- 2:27Speaker 1: while we were there. We were still working, taking conference
- 2:29Speaker 1: calls and doing all that good stuff that we like
- 2:31Speaker 1: to do. So we were still working and then of
- 2:33Speaker 1: course prepping and doing all of our work for the
- 2:35Speaker 1: conference and the workshop. So but it was amazing, It
- 2:38Speaker 1: was great. We had a really great time. We did
- 2:40Speaker 1: our Goddess Worship workshop with the Uomo hitters and other
- 2:44Speaker 1: students that were there, so hopefully we gained some new
- 2:46Speaker 1: listeners and shout out to our look a moot is
- 2:49Speaker 1: they were there, such as Vedo, Maria and Edith Yomeda
- 2:53Speaker 1: fabulous people and all the other more hits that were amazing.
- 2:56Speaker 1: It was amazing to meet Aliya. It was cool to
- 2:58Speaker 1: be around like the students. It was I felt so nostalled,
- 3:02Speaker 1: like so nostalgic about my own undergrad years. And one
- 3:06Speaker 1: thing that I really loved was and this cato is
- 3:09Speaker 1: all about love if this is our OO episode, you know,
- 3:13Speaker 1: And I could really feel the love there on campus,
- 3:15Speaker 1: not just for like you know, the podcast and everything,
- 3:18Speaker 1: but like for the community. Yes, there was a big
- 3:21Speaker 1: sense of community there with them. With the students we met,
- 3:24Speaker 1: the Yuo Mohadist students that we met the Multicultural Center,
- 3:28Speaker 1: Like at one point the girls had us over to
- 3:30Speaker 1: one of their apartments and like it was a bunch
- 3:32Speaker 1: of the students there. We just were all hanging out
- 3:35Speaker 1: and talking and we ended up dancing at the end
- 3:37Speaker 1: and it was really fun and like I miss having
- 3:41Speaker 1: all of my home girls in one spot, right, That's
- 3:43Speaker 1: what we were saying, Like when you're on you're doing
- 3:46Speaker 1: your undergrad like you're never in that not close proximity
- 3:49Speaker 1: to your friends like ever again, Um afterwards, you know,
- 3:53Speaker 1: after you graduated and move away, so it was super graded.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I agree with Mama, like definitely nostalgic. There's so many
- 3:59Speaker 1: things I would have done differently during my undergrad and
- 4:01Speaker 1: like now obviously being out and like having this different
- 4:05Speaker 1: sense of community. I would have done so much differently.
- 4:08Speaker 1: So myself, for example, what would you have done differently
- 4:11Speaker 1: if you had to do undergrad over again? Oh um,
- 4:15Speaker 1: I would have changed my major. I would have started
- 4:17Speaker 1: to broad longer. I probably would have. Um, there's I mean,
- 4:21Speaker 1: there's a lot. I mean, my relationships I think affected
- 4:23Speaker 1: a lot of my undergrad So I would have done
- 4:25Speaker 1: so much differently. So it's nice to see the way
- 4:27Speaker 1: these Mohadas have really built their community. Beautiful community, beautiful community,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and it just seems like they really take care of
- 4:33Speaker 1: each other and are just willing to learn together, grow together,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and then bring speakers out because we heard about some
- 4:39Speaker 1: future speakers that they're trying to bring. We can't say anything,
- 4:43Speaker 1: but you know, it's really great to see the Mohad
- 4:47Speaker 1: is doing the work that needs to be done, you
- 4:49Speaker 1: know what campus and let me just say, and it
- 4:52Speaker 1: was not lost on us Between Mitscha and of course
- 4:56Speaker 1: the conference friends. The fifteenth Annual is the reason why
- 5:03Speaker 1: Mitscha of University of Oregon flew us out there because
- 5:06Speaker 1: we gave a keynote for the youth conference, right, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: the theme was so we wrote this really great keynote.
- 5:13Speaker 1: In my opinion, it was really great. It was real good. Um. Yeah,
- 5:18Speaker 1: we can't lie. And you know, we really brought this
- 5:20Speaker 1: theme of like, you know, planting your seeds and blooming
- 5:23Speaker 1: and growing and you know having to you know, pluck
- 5:26Speaker 1: the weeds and not block anyone's sunshine and not block
- 5:30Speaker 1: their growth, right, and really talking about that in the
- 5:32Speaker 1: sense of um, when you're in a community that was
- 5:35Speaker 1: multiple needs, right, layered needs, layered needs, it takes many
- 5:39Speaker 1: many seeds right for a successful harvest. It's never never
- 5:43Speaker 1: just one seed, right, Um. So yeah, all those themes.
- 5:46Speaker 1: We're not going to give it the whole thing away.
- 5:48Speaker 1: You had to be there, you had to be there,
- 5:50Speaker 1: had to be there. Um. And then I also want
- 5:52Speaker 1: to shout out because what we did to tell them
- 5:55Speaker 1: about the Latino Tech in short of podcast workshop we
- 5:59Speaker 1: did that one was so fun. So we had done
- 6:01Speaker 1: sort of like a podcasting workshop at u c l
- 6:04Speaker 1: A for one of Silky shout out, Hey, I know
- 6:07Speaker 1: you're watching one of our favorite fans anyways. Um, So
- 6:12Speaker 1: Silky is a genius and is this brilliant professor and
- 6:16Speaker 1: she had a class at u c l A. And
- 6:18Speaker 1: we came and what department was it was chi Study,
- 6:21Speaker 1: So for Chikana Chikano Studies class, we went as the
- 6:23Speaker 1: podcast and we talked about podcasting. We took that same
- 6:27Speaker 1: workshop and we sort of developed it for high schoolers
- 6:30Speaker 1: and middle schoolers and we called it Latin x Tech
- 6:32Speaker 1: and basically we had them, um break off into groups,
- 6:35Speaker 1: the students and build their own podcasts from the ground up,
- 6:38Speaker 1: from like having a name, to a logo to a
- 6:41Speaker 1: hashtag you know, um, you know all that stuff the
- 6:45Speaker 1: stuff that we've put together our podcast. So we're really fun.
- 6:49Speaker 1: We did um, of course we'd laid the foundation, and
- 6:52Speaker 1: we talked about like our our development and what we've
- 6:55Speaker 1: done and what's work and what what we've had to
- 6:56Speaker 1: improve and all those things. And also at the workshop
- 7:00Speaker 1: up there were two more hitters from Portland's that drove
- 7:02Speaker 1: and their local motives. I want to shout out Filly
- 7:05Speaker 1: and Roso they were so fun. So they took us
- 7:11Speaker 1: to get drinks afterwards, and then we spent the whole
- 7:13Speaker 1: afternoon with them at before we flew back to l A.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So it was super great to meet them. We have
- 7:18Speaker 1: the best logan. What it we really do? Our listeners
- 7:21Speaker 1: are so fun, are so much fun? Oh my god, Yes,
- 7:25Speaker 1: our listeners are so hopefully will be in Oregon again,
- 7:30Speaker 1: that would be great. I think we will be. Yeah
- 7:32Speaker 1: we might. Maybe we'll spend a little bit more time,
- 7:34Speaker 1: yeah yeah, yeah, to play a day of leisure. Yes
- 7:38Speaker 1: if you will, yes, if you must. You know. Yeah.
- 7:41Speaker 1: So that was our our time in Oregon. It was
- 7:43Speaker 1: super great. And then you know, we came back and
- 7:45Speaker 1: you know, back to work. Yes, here we are, and
- 7:48Speaker 1: here we are, and here we are I think with
- 7:50Speaker 1: we're going to jump into one of our segment ready mama.
- 7:57Speaker 1: All right. So yeah, locas, we got this listener question
- 8:01Speaker 1: a few a few weeks ago, a few months ago.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I hope you're listening more. This is such a great question.
- 8:06Speaker 1: UM definitely hit home for me, So I'm gonna go
- 8:08Speaker 1: ahead and ask it. Um. Okay, I'm a bisexual Mexicana
- 8:13Speaker 1: and my dad has a hard time with me dating women.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I'm currently dating a guy and no I'm a bit Oh.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I get the sense that my dad is quote relieved.
- 8:21Speaker 1: This bugs me for some reason, and I'm not sure why,
- 8:23Speaker 1: because although my dad had a hard time with me
- 8:25Speaker 1: dating women, he didn't quote disown me or anything and
- 8:28Speaker 1: said he loves me regardless. Have either of y'all experienced this.
- 8:32Speaker 1: You can take this one away. You can you can
- 8:35Speaker 1: take this one away. This is relevant. Okay, girl, I
- 8:39Speaker 1: feel like you are reading my life tbh. Um, I
- 8:42Speaker 1: actually feel this way, and I think this was um.
- 8:45Speaker 1: You know, not to get too deep, but I feel
- 8:48Speaker 1: like this was It was a really hard. It was
- 8:50Speaker 1: really hard for me to um move away from my
- 8:54Speaker 1: lesbian identity into my queer identity because I felt because
- 8:58Speaker 1: I'm so firm, the people weren't gonna understand that I'm
- 9:02Speaker 1: queer or pan sexual or bisexual. It was more like, oh, yes,
- 9:04Speaker 1: see her phase is over. Yes, So I really struggled
- 9:08Speaker 1: with fairness, was exactly I've really struggled with being okay
- 9:12Speaker 1: with dating men um And the same thing. I feel
- 9:15Speaker 1: like my father was never like outwardly homophobic with me. Um.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I think it was more subtle, like he wouldn't necessarily
- 9:21Speaker 1: acknowledge my partners as my partners friends favorite friends, and
- 9:26Speaker 1: he would never say their names. He would say la
- 9:29Speaker 1: things like that, very coded, coded things. And now I
- 9:34Speaker 1: feel like I wouldn't say he's happy that I'm dating
- 9:37Speaker 1: a man, because I don't know if any fathers ever
- 9:39Speaker 1: really happy. But you're you're dating right, right? And like
- 9:43Speaker 1: when I don't come home, he knows where I'm mad happy,
- 9:46Speaker 1: you know, favorite? Right? Right? So I mean, yes, okay,
- 9:54Speaker 1: So I have either of us experienced that, I mean, yes, definitely,
- 9:57Speaker 1: And I think your feelings are valid, especially you know.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Oh and this is what I had this discussion with
- 10:01Speaker 1: my mom recently actually, because she was like, well, how
- 10:04Speaker 1: does you know your your boo feel about you identifying
- 10:07Speaker 1: as queer? And I'm like, um, well, he wouldn't be
- 10:10Speaker 1: with me he was right, and I had to have yeah,
- 10:15Speaker 1: and I had to have that discussion, and I was like,
- 10:17Speaker 1: just because I'm dating a man now, it doesn't make
- 10:19Speaker 1: me and he was queer. Let's start there, right, Let's
- 10:22Speaker 1: be clear, yes, right, yes, there are certain privileges when
- 10:25Speaker 1: you're in a perceived heterosexual relationship, but it doesn't negate
- 10:28Speaker 1: your queerness, right, So I think that that's really important.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And I just want to say, if you're listening, your
- 10:34Speaker 1: feelings are totally valid, and I feel you boo, and
- 10:39Speaker 1: just keep doing you. And you know what's interesting is
- 10:42Speaker 1: like your parents, like you're saying, your parents are never
- 10:45Speaker 1: really happy about whoever you're dating, or one parent might
- 10:49Speaker 1: be happy, the other one is not right, And I
- 10:51Speaker 1: think it's interesting too, Like your parents will tolerate your
- 10:54Speaker 1: partner until your partner is no longer your partner, when
- 10:57Speaker 1: there's a breakup, another gone, and then all of a sudden,
- 10:59Speaker 1: you here from everybody in the family. Well, we didn't
- 11:02Speaker 1: really like them that much anyway. Over a girl. We
- 11:08Speaker 1: don't want to tell you, but here's the t I
- 11:10Speaker 1: had a friend who lives in New York City who
- 11:12Speaker 1: was like, you know me and me and your mom Zoe.
- 11:16Speaker 1: You know, me and your mom kind of agreed. We
- 11:18Speaker 1: didn't think that that person was the one for you.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I'm like, oh no, I find out that my friends
- 11:23Speaker 1: and my mother were all communicating behind my back, you
- 11:26Speaker 1: know what I mean. So it's just funny, like, but
- 11:28Speaker 1: it's interesting because I think, you know, we can only
- 11:31Speaker 1: push our parents so far, and sometimes I'm just grateful
- 11:35Speaker 1: even for just silent Tacit just acceptance, yes, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: as opposed to outright like yeah, you know, I don't
- 11:44Speaker 1: like it. Stop that, get out of my house right, well,
- 11:46Speaker 1: I don't mean. Yeah, And I did date somebody briefly
- 11:49Speaker 1: that my father was so unhappy. Oh yeah, I remember
- 11:52Speaker 1: that and that and that was some outward like I'm
- 11:56Speaker 1: not talking to you kind of ship and like I'm
- 11:59Speaker 1: not gonna fucking I'm not going to talk to you
- 12:01Speaker 1: until you decide that, you know, this relationship is over.
- 12:03Speaker 1: That's some more that was, and same thing in real ways. Everybody,
- 12:08Speaker 1: all my family was warning me and was like, don't
- 12:10Speaker 1: do this, don't do this, don't dates that one. Yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 1: And I was like and then at that point I
- 12:14Speaker 1: was like, I was like speaking of my dad's calling
- 12:22Speaker 1: it right there. Yeah, father, Poppy, not daddy. There's a
- 12:32Speaker 1: different there's a difference, there's a different Oh my god,
- 12:34Speaker 1: that's hilarious. All right, goodness. So yeah, so there's your answer.
- 12:41Speaker 1: There's your there's our answer to your question, and that's
- 12:45Speaker 1: thank you. And always submit questions to a Curious Cat. Yes,
- 12:49Speaker 1: please keep submitting on the Curious Cat dot Com slash
- 12:53Speaker 1: dash radio, underscore, underscore, let me, let's love, let me
- 12:57Speaker 1: look it up. Yeah, m hm, oh yeah, keep submitting questions.
- 13:02Speaker 1: We love reading these questions. We have a few like
- 13:04Speaker 1: that we're going to answer in the next few laws.
- 13:07Speaker 1: But it's always good to have new ones, especially if
- 13:10Speaker 1: if if they go more on theme with what we're
- 13:12Speaker 1: talking about. That say, yeah, Curious Cat dot me slash
- 13:19Speaker 1: underscore radio, send us questions, send us questions. We prefer
- 13:25Speaker 1: the Curious Cat me over the d M to be honestly,
- 13:28Speaker 1: because this is a one place that we can just
- 13:30Speaker 1: really keep up with where just specifically the questions. We're
- 13:35Speaker 1: trying to stay organized. We're trying to stay organized. Yes,
- 13:38Speaker 1: thank you, thank you ask us questions. We're pretty open, Yeah,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I think so, Yeah, I think we're pretty honest about
- 13:44Speaker 1: stuff when people ask us questions, we answer them. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:48Speaker 1: so okay, so more into our topic. So what does
- 13:53Speaker 1: that come to when when you hear that phrase? I'm
- 13:55Speaker 1: probably what does it bring to mind for you? Like,
- 13:58Speaker 1: what are your immediate references I think of? I'm going
- 14:01Speaker 1: I think of painful love? Yeah, the best kind I
- 14:08Speaker 1: think of, like the love that has you up at night, right,
- 14:14Speaker 1: because something is keeping you from being with that person,
- 14:18Speaker 1: whether it be your parents, society, whatever it is, whoever knows,
- 14:25Speaker 1: whomever it may be. There's always something in the way
- 14:28Speaker 1: right right, whether that be distance, right, whether it be
- 14:33Speaker 1: your own emotional unavailability, another person's emotional unavailability yes yes,
- 14:39Speaker 1: or just even knowing that the person is not the
- 14:42Speaker 1: one for you but still wanting to, you know, see
- 14:46Speaker 1: see how this person is going to you know, play
- 14:49Speaker 1: out in your life, or what the relationship is going
- 14:51Speaker 1: to teach you even though you know it's not the relationship,
- 14:56Speaker 1: but you want the experience. Anyways, Sometimes sometimes I feel
- 14:59Speaker 1: like I don't mind, you know, when a person is
- 15:01Speaker 1: not your life partner. For sure, there are those people
- 15:05Speaker 1: right that you meet them and wherever you meet them,
- 15:08Speaker 1: whether that's when you're out, you're in school, you know, whatever,
- 15:12Speaker 1: here here, there, here, whatever, um and you know, like, Okay,
- 15:16Speaker 1: this person is going to be a lot of fun
- 15:18Speaker 1: or this person is a little bit of trouble and
- 15:19Speaker 1: I'm down. But I know what I'm getting and I
- 15:23Speaker 1: know what I'm not going to get. I know that
- 15:24Speaker 1: this has an expiration day. And even though I'm going
- 15:27Speaker 1: to fight it, yes, eventually some ship is going to
- 15:32Speaker 1: blow up in. This person's going to be out of
- 15:33Speaker 1: my life. Yeah, even when you know, because the universe, God, Shiva, whoever,
- 15:38Speaker 1: is sending you a million signs to keep this person
- 15:41Speaker 1: away from you, like I don't I don't know her,
- 15:43Speaker 1: I don't know her, I don't see suddenly I can't see.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I'm going to ignore all the signs and I'm gonna
- 15:50Speaker 1: seek out this person that I know is bad for me.
- 15:53Speaker 1: That's gonna send me into a very dramatic life spiral.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Spiral I was gonna say, but I want it. I
- 15:58Speaker 1: hearn for it, and make me cut off all these
- 16:00Speaker 1: people that are connected to them. Right, why don't we
- 16:03Speaker 1: do that? I don't know, because you're horrible. That's that's
- 16:09Speaker 1: and I've always known that about myself. You know, you
- 16:12Speaker 1: just have to be honest, like I like to create
- 16:14Speaker 1: drama for myself. Do you know? I think at this
- 16:18Speaker 1: point in my life my self love is not getting
- 16:20Speaker 1: into dramatic relationships. That's how I'm going to practice that.
- 16:25Speaker 1: At this point in my life. My my current partner
- 16:28Speaker 1: is like, no drama. And sometimes I find myself getting
- 16:31Speaker 1: in these like self sabotaged ways of being like, Okay,
- 16:36Speaker 1: well where is the drama? Like how come you know
- 16:40Speaker 1: the needle the pin hasn't dropped right, how come the
- 16:42Speaker 1: shoe hasn't fallen off? I'm like, what's going on? I'm
- 16:45Speaker 1: like going hold on? And then my book has to
- 16:51Speaker 1: be like it takes things for what they are, like
- 16:55Speaker 1: let them be, go ahead, And I'm just like, oh, okay,
- 16:57Speaker 1: you're right, trust trust the car, right, yeah, embrace the calm. Right.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Maybe there's not a storm coming, Yeah there might not be. Yes.
- 17:06Speaker 1: That being said, let's giving to our song break your
- 17:09Speaker 1: song break or Cara, belly rostra and and and and
- 17:17Speaker 1: and and and and and and and and and and
- 17:23Speaker 1: and and and and and and and and belly rock
- 17:32Speaker 1: and and and then bell rang and and and and
- 17:38Speaker 1: and and and um from from from um um from
- 17:47Speaker 1: from Umm, from of it and ship and we're back
- 18:01Speaker 1: part in US, part in US. So so Valentine's Day
- 18:06Speaker 1: is coming up. Valentine's Day is coming up, and we
- 18:10Speaker 1: are hosting in events with Yao and not A call
- 18:14Speaker 1: her publisher and it's gonna it's called la It's going
- 18:17Speaker 1: to be at the at the l A Theater Company,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I think Los Angeles Theater Center and in springing Spring
- 18:24Speaker 1: Streets l A. UM tickets are still available, almost sold
- 18:28Speaker 1: out though they're twenty five dollars. Starts at seven thirty.
- 18:30Speaker 1: There's a bar we're hosting. Like we said, UM, super
- 18:34Speaker 1: super excited. There's gonna be another a few other poets
- 18:37Speaker 1: that are performing along with YESSICAA is going to be
- 18:40Speaker 1: performing and then we're going to do a Q and
- 18:44Speaker 1: A after so we're gonna be facilitating that. We love fancying.
- 18:48Speaker 1: We love posting. We really do. Yeah. It's a good time. Yeah.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So you know, talking about Valentine's Day, UM, throwback to
- 18:57Speaker 1: what do we do last year? For it was a
- 19:01Speaker 1: hot ass ratchet as mess. We were each other's Valentine's.
- 19:05Speaker 1: We were it was a Gallantine's. It really was. It
- 19:09Speaker 1: was a lot of fun. It was super super sweet.
- 19:11Speaker 1: We um, we were supposed to go out to a
- 19:13Speaker 1: nice dinner and ended up ordering Papa John's. We had
- 19:16Speaker 1: pizza and we just you know, got drunk and turned
- 19:21Speaker 1: at Mama's place. Yeah. Well, first of all, we met
- 19:23Speaker 1: at my place, and my apartment is very small, so
- 19:25Speaker 1: it was like how many girls? It was the Mummy
- 19:28Speaker 1: collective Melissa and and I feel like she had a
- 19:33Speaker 1: friend there, did she? I don't remember, but I think
- 19:37Speaker 1: it was just about okay anyway, So it was like
- 19:40Speaker 1: what like six or seven six whatever, those numbers had
- 19:42Speaker 1: up to seven women. Um, and so we were drinking
- 19:47Speaker 1: Henny obviously honey and pineapple and other things. I was
- 19:50Speaker 1: drinking champagne, champagne. We were drinking Henny and pineapple out
- 19:54Speaker 1: of champagne flute, right, which is what I like to do, right,
- 19:58Speaker 1: I like to drink out of champa. So anyways, um,
- 20:02Speaker 1: we're leaving right, and we were going to the short
- 20:04Speaker 1: stop on sunset and freaking the light you know, Okay,
- 20:07Speaker 1: when you go to a new person's house, like you
- 20:10Speaker 1: don't always know like where the steps, where are the lights,
- 20:13Speaker 1: where the corners? What do you look out for? Like
- 20:15Speaker 1: you're not aware of the space. And it was dark
- 20:18Speaker 1: and you know, my house is a little bit it's
- 20:19Speaker 1: a little bit old, a little bit ratchet sometimes, and
- 20:22Speaker 1: like our lights are not not everything is lit, and
- 20:26Speaker 1: some of the lights are late, and some of the
- 20:28Speaker 1: lights are in weird places. And so poor Marisa, she
- 20:30Speaker 1: didn't see this step. The light comes off way late,
- 20:34Speaker 1: and maritsa falls and fox up her ankle and while
- 20:37Speaker 1: she's on the floor, and I'm like, oh my god.
- 20:39Speaker 1: But then the light comes on, so we can see
- 20:43Speaker 1: our predicament. But we couldn't avoid it. And she was limping, limping,
- 20:47Speaker 1: she limped into the uber, but she was a fucking
- 20:49Speaker 1: trooper and she rallied and she limped all the way
- 20:52Speaker 1: into the short stop and up to the bar. Girl. Yes, literally,
- 20:57Speaker 1: I think we just to care of her the night,
- 20:58Speaker 1: bout her drinks. Yeah, like you know, had her seated,
- 21:01Speaker 1: we're sitting with her, and her was elevated. We were
- 21:06Speaker 1: single host that year, All of us were single at
- 21:08Speaker 1: the same time. Could you imagine, girl, nobody stand a chance.
- 21:13Speaker 1: It was terrible and nobody nobody was safe. No, not
- 21:17Speaker 1: even us. We weren't even safe, right, So, yes, that
- 21:23Speaker 1: was Valentine's Day last year. But it was fun. It
- 21:25Speaker 1: was a nice Galantine's It was a lot of fun.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Um much has changed changed. It's still Galantine's Day for me.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Yeah you have a boo. I have a boo. But
- 21:36Speaker 1: you know he's not like a Valentine's Day person. Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 21:40Speaker 1: So I checked with him before I booked the event obviously,
- 21:47Speaker 1: like hey, like, you know we're going to host this event,
- 21:50Speaker 1: Like I just want to check in, like are we
- 21:51Speaker 1: going to do anything that say, do we have plans?
- 21:54Speaker 1: Where you planning something? And if he doesn't like to
- 21:55Speaker 1: plan anything, so he was like, we can do something
- 21:57Speaker 1: on the weekend, like do you And I was like okay,
- 21:59Speaker 1: perfect Um. That was the answer I wanted to Right,
- 22:02Speaker 1: you got what you were like, got what I was
- 22:03Speaker 1: looking for. And it was funny because throwback, um we
- 22:07Speaker 1: I was telling MoMA actually that after our Valentine's Day
- 22:10Speaker 1: the morning after waking up, he had actually started following
- 22:13Speaker 1: me on Instagram current boo. So I was like, full circle.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Would you look at that? Right, that's so funny. I know,
- 22:21Speaker 1: how cute? Did you post a photo that Valentine? I did?
- 22:25Speaker 1: I was looking hell of fine and he liked it.
- 22:28Speaker 1: He did like he did like it. He took the bait.
- 22:31Speaker 1: He did. He took the bait the bait, right. I
- 22:33Speaker 1: love putting some bait out there and you just know
- 22:36Speaker 1: that they're going to bite, and then when they bite,
- 22:38Speaker 1: you're like, yep, you're like on time. I knew what
- 22:42Speaker 1: I was doing. I knew what I was doing. We
- 22:44Speaker 1: always know what we're doing. It's true. We do even
- 22:46Speaker 1: when we're not thinking about it. It's like, oh wait,
- 22:48Speaker 1: I knew what I was doing all along. I got
- 22:50Speaker 1: my desired result, even if I didn't know that I
- 22:52Speaker 1: desired that result. Right, I got what I wanted. It
- 22:54Speaker 1: worked out. We're good exactly exactly that. That's that's the best. Yes,
- 22:59Speaker 1: So okay, going on theme right, talking about moo um
- 23:04Speaker 1: Mama brought up an interesting point about self love. Yeah,
- 23:09Speaker 1: so self love in its own way, isn't why so
- 23:15Speaker 1: so often right, like especially women, um and I would
- 23:19Speaker 1: say most especially also like queer men, to be really
- 23:23Speaker 1: into yourself and to love yourself and want to take
- 23:25Speaker 1: pictures of yourself and spend time on your makeup and
- 23:28Speaker 1: your hair. We're always called conceited and we're always like
- 23:31Speaker 1: talked down on for that, you know, And we're self
- 23:35Speaker 1: centered and we're narcissistic, and we're shallow. People love saying
- 23:39Speaker 1: that women are shallow and girls are shallows. A shallow
- 23:42Speaker 1: friends are shallow, frivolous. I'm like, that is our love
- 23:46Speaker 1: language for ourselves, is to spend time on ourselves and
- 23:50Speaker 1: to look at ourselves because this performance is not just
- 23:53Speaker 1: for the outside world. We perform for ourselves. If femininity
- 23:58Speaker 1: in many ways is performance, right, and like, okay, to
- 24:02Speaker 1: quote Brittany, there are those of us that do the
- 24:06Speaker 1: entertaining and then others who are watching for me, since
- 24:10Speaker 1: we can establish femininity as performance in many ways right,
- 24:14Speaker 1: we are performers, but we also perform for ourselves and
- 24:17Speaker 1: then everybody else they're watching, they're the audience, right, and
- 24:20Speaker 1: sometimes the audience needs to sit back and shut the
- 24:23Speaker 1: funk up and let the show continue, you know what
- 24:26Speaker 1: I mean. So for me, that's what I think of
- 24:27Speaker 1: what I think of self love, Like we're not supposed
- 24:29Speaker 1: to love ourselves because then we're shallow, we're self centered,
- 24:34Speaker 1: but we do this for ourselves absolutely absolutely so in
- 24:37Speaker 1: its own way, it isn't right because we're not allowed
- 24:40Speaker 1: to do it. We're not allowed to outwardly do it.
- 24:43Speaker 1: We're not allowed to talk about it. We're not allowed
- 24:45Speaker 1: to post too many selfies, right, We're not allowed to
- 24:49Speaker 1: take the time for ourselves that you know, we need
- 24:51Speaker 1: um establish our boundaries, say no to people, right, those
- 24:54Speaker 1: are the things that we're not allowed to do, especially
- 24:57Speaker 1: as women and fems. Yes, especially um. And then you know,
- 25:01Speaker 1: obviously there are different types of like there are certain
- 25:07Speaker 1: types of loves, loves that are always going to be
- 25:09Speaker 1: like forbidden, right, So whether that's because of race, class, gender,
- 25:13Speaker 1: like people always find a reason to problematize a romantic
- 25:18Speaker 1: encounter or unless it's like sis head inside of marriage,
- 25:23Speaker 1: everything else is fucked up, and that honestly excludes most
- 25:27Speaker 1: types of love, right, Yeah, Yeah, I feel like, um,
- 25:32Speaker 1: by default, all of my relationships have been like amoro
- 25:36Speaker 1: because of the queerness, right, with the exception of my
- 25:39Speaker 1: current one. But you know, all my past relationships have
- 25:41Speaker 1: been ado because because of the queerness and um, whether
- 25:46Speaker 1: that be like from society or any type of like
- 25:48Speaker 1: internalized homophobia or internal misogyny like that mask energy even
- 25:54Speaker 1: like queer folks, queer women all that ship. Yeah, and
- 25:58Speaker 1: I feel like the theme of is so common, like
- 26:02Speaker 1: in music so much Mighty Achi, Lost Love forbidden love.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Fucking yes, sucking the Vicenti fans came for her, Yes, yes, yes,
- 26:17Speaker 1: hey girl, I know you're watching um much love. Yesica
- 26:23Speaker 1: had tweeted out the other day, Um about how Fernandez
- 26:27Speaker 1: that iconic song every mexicanald's, every latinos favorite song, right,
- 26:33Speaker 1: they all sing it about themselves, right. Um, She's like,
- 26:37Speaker 1: that's the ultimate funck boy anthem, you know, because he's
- 26:41Speaker 1: talking about like I'm broke, I got no power, I
- 26:44Speaker 1: got no influence, and nobody listens to me. Why the
- 26:48Speaker 1: funk would I? Why are you cry? You know? Um?
- 26:52Speaker 1: But anyway, so like, um, I also feel like in
- 26:55Speaker 1: so many novellas is just a constant theme totally. I
- 27:00Speaker 1: mean that's what makes it so traumatic, right, Like how
- 27:02Speaker 1: we said in the first half of the right we
- 27:05Speaker 1: want we want the trauma, right we were We've grown
- 27:08Speaker 1: up with all that drama, right, so we're like, okay,
- 27:10Speaker 1: that's that's the only way to be in a relationship, right,
- 27:13Speaker 1: all this drama. Right, But um, I mean so okay,
- 27:19Speaker 1: So we see the novelas right, classic of course and Selena,
- 27:24Speaker 1: Um that is just like the anthem yeah, and forbidden
- 27:27Speaker 1: love in that song she's talking about you know, almost
- 27:31Speaker 1: you know, it's almost the defendite this classes. So it's
- 27:34Speaker 1: like I am imagining. I'm wondering, like in the song right,
- 27:38Speaker 1: like what is her position? Is she the one that's
- 27:41Speaker 1: not good enough? Or she the princess that's too good
- 27:44Speaker 1: and he's not good enough for her? I don't think
- 27:46Speaker 1: we really know, because even in the video, right, she's
- 27:48Speaker 1: is there another? Is there a person in the video?
- 27:50Speaker 1: Doesn't she gets stood up? Isn't Is that the one
- 27:53Speaker 1: where she's out and she's wearing the T shirt, the
- 27:56Speaker 1: striped T shirt and the jeans and she has the
- 27:58Speaker 1: long but the road with the road, I'm getting my
- 28:03Speaker 1: references next time. I'm like, for me those when she's
- 28:07Speaker 1: out in the desert and there's like the doors at
- 28:10Speaker 1: the door, she's wearing that beautiful like red tie like outfit. Um, yes,
- 28:19Speaker 1: is there a man? Is there a man? I don't remember. No,
- 28:22Speaker 1: she's wearing the white yeah, but she's also wearing red
- 28:24Speaker 1: in a part of the video. Yeah, see she stands alone.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Who knows? See, So it could be like right, um,
- 28:33Speaker 1: like I've had family basically tell me like, oh, well,
- 28:36Speaker 1: we don't like such and such because we don't think
- 28:38Speaker 1: that they're good enough whatever that means. Who's heard that before?
- 28:46Speaker 1: No one's good enough, No one's good enough, No one's
- 28:49Speaker 1: good enough. I guess my grandma. I wasn't here when
- 28:51Speaker 1: this happened, but my mom told me that my grandma Natcha,
- 28:53Speaker 1: they were watching TV and they were talking about, you know,
- 28:55Speaker 1: the Prince and Megan Marco, and my grandma was like,
- 28:58Speaker 1: so he met her in l A. And where were
- 29:00Speaker 1: my granddaughters when the Prince was here? Where were they?
- 29:02Speaker 1: What were they doing? Being hosed? Wasting? Sorry? Sorry I
- 29:10Speaker 1: missed the Prince. I missed the Prince. I missed the Prince.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I was over here being sucking occupied by all these
- 29:18Speaker 1: fucking trolls dudes out here instead of meeting the Prince.
- 29:21Speaker 1: That's what I was wasting my time. I was wasting
- 29:24Speaker 1: my time. That's definitely what happened. Anyways, funny, okay, funny,
- 29:28Speaker 1: So music, Um, movies? Did we talk about movies? I
- 29:33Speaker 1: mean the basis the basis for all this ship so
- 29:37Speaker 1: much is you know the Romeo and Juliet right, that's
- 29:40Speaker 1: like the continued um, Yeah, what is it? Winto theme
- 29:45Speaker 1: and it reoccurs? What is it called trope. No, it's
- 29:49Speaker 1: there's something else. It's like a motif. It's a motif.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Don't know that the trope Now, I don't know anyway, well,
- 29:55Speaker 1: that the recurrent, the literary device, one of those things
- 29:59Speaker 1: in literary device, this that they hammered into us, like
- 30:02Speaker 1: our entire education, but we can't remember. I would even say,
- 30:07Speaker 1: I would even say, I wonder how much is the
- 30:11Speaker 1: story of Adam and Eve even and just like from
- 30:15Speaker 1: the fucking jump. First of all, it's so brutal the
- 30:19Speaker 1: way that the Bible imagines like men and women like
- 30:22Speaker 1: taking his rib out, Like what the fuck? Why? It's
- 30:25Speaker 1: so grotesque? Right? And then there I don't even know
- 30:29Speaker 1: are they even in love or they're just put together,
- 30:32Speaker 1: put together, you know, just put together. There's no Yeah,
- 30:35Speaker 1: And I do not believe, right, because what's the story
- 30:38Speaker 1: that that the snake spoke to Eve? Right? And then
- 30:41Speaker 1: she went and was like here, try this apple. I
- 30:43Speaker 1: don't believe it for a second. I don't believe it.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I don't believe it. They did. I wronged, was framed.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I would a favorite on the Sinking College about how
- 30:52Speaker 1: Eve was framed. Eve was framed, y'all, and she did
- 30:56Speaker 1: it because she was a writer or die. We don't
- 30:58Speaker 1: need to be writer or die. We don't need to
- 31:00Speaker 1: be right or die. She was a down ass bitch.
- 31:02Speaker 1: And I think that she was framed. I think that
- 31:04Speaker 1: that that they put all the blame for this ship
- 31:07Speaker 1: on the woman, of course, right, of course, So that
- 31:09Speaker 1: just laid the foundation for patriarchy of hosogy because women
- 31:13Speaker 1: ruined society exactly that they ruined the garden of Eden.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Look at pistemologies. That's a survivor narrative. I don't believe
- 31:20Speaker 1: that you did it. She was framed. She was framed. Um. Okay,
- 31:25Speaker 1: so um, okay, tell me this is too personal? Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 31:31Speaker 1: what is it? Um? Can you give me a personal
- 31:33Speaker 1: example of oh my god, a little or small? Well
- 31:39Speaker 1: how much time do we have? Girl? No? You know,
- 31:42Speaker 1: I um once dated somebody who lives in a different country.
- 31:48Speaker 1: And I haven't shared this like on the podcast, and
- 31:51Speaker 1: I haven't shared this on the internet really, um, but
- 31:54Speaker 1: I once stated someone who lived in another country and
- 31:57Speaker 1: this country was Cuba before before the embargo was lifted. Um,
- 32:03Speaker 1: And it was a few years ago, and I like
- 32:06Speaker 1: used to fly myself like by myself. This isn't my
- 32:08Speaker 1: early twenties, I was like love for love. Between the
- 32:14Speaker 1: ages of twenty and twenty two, I traveled to Cuba
- 32:18Speaker 1: by myself at least three times, and I had like
- 32:21Speaker 1: a Mexican travel agent who was based in Caffoon, who
- 32:24Speaker 1: like would buy me my tickets and I would Western
- 32:26Speaker 1: Union in money, and then I was like, you were
- 32:28Speaker 1: doing the girl listen number one and I would fly
- 32:33Speaker 1: into Kunggoon and then sneak into Cuba. But nothing bad
- 32:36Speaker 1: ever happened to me. That's good. I'm glad you were
- 32:38Speaker 1: able to do that. I mean, something bad did happen,
- 32:40Speaker 1: and that's why the relationship. But it was him, it wasn't.
- 32:43Speaker 1: It wasn't my travels. It wasn't. I wasn't in trouble
- 32:46Speaker 1: on like an international level. It was an inner personal
- 32:50Speaker 1: of Krable, you know. Um. So that was definitely like
- 32:53Speaker 1: an Amota Probibi. Though I would say, um, you had
- 32:57Speaker 1: like travel restrictions on you girls at Hella, travel restrictions
- 33:01Speaker 1: like my passport could not get stamped, like I had
- 33:04Speaker 1: to have the stamp somewhere else. It was a whole
- 33:06Speaker 1: fucking thing. But I never got in trouble. Um, And
- 33:09Speaker 1: I hope that me talking about this publicly, I'm not
- 33:11Speaker 1: going to get in trouble now if the Feds get me.
- 33:14Speaker 1: This is why I know that there's lots and for me, like,
- 33:18Speaker 1: I haven't really unpacked that relationship and what it means
- 33:21Speaker 1: to like obviously be an American, like dating somebody who
- 33:25Speaker 1: lives in a Cuba in Havana or dating someone who lives,
- 33:29Speaker 1: you know, in Latin America. Obviously there's a lot of
- 33:33Speaker 1: There's a lot there as far as para dynamics and
- 33:35Speaker 1: this and that and this and that and this and that.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I was Hella Young had to be honest, Um, I
- 33:40Speaker 1: was in it for two years, you know what I'm saying.
- 33:42Speaker 1: So I will talk more about it one day when
- 33:46Speaker 1: I can really process it because I'm still like just
- 33:49Speaker 1: so shocked that I did that. I did it. I
- 33:52Speaker 1: did it and I'm alive. So anyways, how about you,
- 33:55Speaker 1: You're I mean, you have you shared a little bit,
- 33:58Speaker 1: but an example for you about and I'm probably be
- 34:00Speaker 1: the one in your life right Okay. So I don't
- 34:02Speaker 1: want to get too deep into my past because this
- 34:05Speaker 1: is raw, you guys, this is real. Ship for us.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Refused to talk about past relationships very fair or do
- 34:13Speaker 1: it very vaguely. So I'm gonna actually, I'm gonna pull
- 34:16Speaker 1: from a fun example and say that current Boo and
- 34:18Speaker 1: I when we were dating, we worked together, So I
- 34:22Speaker 1: kind of an amunto, right, because we don't want anybody
- 34:25Speaker 1: to know already there were people that work that they
- 34:27Speaker 1: didn't funk with me, they didn't like me, right, shout
- 34:29Speaker 1: out to. So I was like, here comes with the osa,
- 34:36Speaker 1: right dating the cute new guy who everybody has a
- 34:41Speaker 1: crush on. How many men were there at the office,
- 34:44Speaker 1: you know, before him? I would say, there's a hand
- 34:47Speaker 1: there were. There were a handful, maybe five, right, Um,
- 34:51Speaker 1: I don't know if any of them. I think maybe
- 34:53Speaker 1: a few of them were like single or available, but
- 34:55Speaker 1: they weren't like the ones that you would date, you know.
- 34:58Speaker 1: So well the and there there comes you know, now
- 35:02Speaker 1: my my partner, right, And I was like, had my
- 35:04Speaker 1: eye on him, and I was like, what was it
- 35:06Speaker 1: that caught your eye? Oh, he's tell fine, he has
- 35:10Speaker 1: a beautiful beard, and you know it connects. Um. He
- 35:13Speaker 1: takes really great care of himself and it shows he
- 35:17Speaker 1: you know, practices all his self care and does things
- 35:19Speaker 1: for himself. You know he's all about the maintenance, blah
- 35:21Speaker 1: blah blah. So I would say that you know, dating someone,
- 35:24Speaker 1: were you dating someone that you work with, right, and
- 35:27Speaker 1: not wanting it to be obvious in the office also
- 35:29Speaker 1: gives it its own like rush, right when you're like
- 35:32Speaker 1: exchanging glances and you're texting each other like all these
- 35:36Speaker 1: sexy things, and while you're in the same room, you know, right,
- 35:41Speaker 1: and like you're in a meeting and they're sitting behind
- 35:43Speaker 1: or he's sitting behind you, they're sitting behind you, and
