- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Chris from Private Functioning. Uh, the singer. Yeah, we've
- 0:04Speaker 1: got a new.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I'm Anthony guitar player. That's the album that.
- 0:09Speaker 3: He's talking about right there, I know, and going, thanks
- 0:15Speaker 3: for trailers jez My Pleasure.
- 0:19Speaker 4: So the album you talked about, which is so delicately
- 0:22Speaker 4: placed behind you. It came out last Friday, so that's
- 0:25Speaker 4: the only reception I've been for it.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, it's been amazing.
- 0:29Speaker 5: Everyone's loving it like I've been whenever I tune in,
- 0:32Speaker 5: like the Asen tripple a the song you're on the radio.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good stuff.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I can getting heaps of, you know, messages from
- 0:40Speaker 3: people I don't even know, just going, I just heard
- 0:43Speaker 3: the album's looking great and that like a specific song,
- 0:46Speaker 3: so like, you know, it's it's interesting, it's great love.
- 0:50Speaker 6: I'll tell you. Has anyone been able to pronounce it?
- 0:56Speaker 1: You know, I don't care, it's not our problem.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's you to figure out.
- 1:01Speaker 6: So is there an actual pronunciation or is it just
- 1:03Speaker 6: squiggled so together?
- 1:06Speaker 1: There might be have a looking at the cover, there's
- 1:08Speaker 1: someone on the cover.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Something on the cover right here, But that type of
- 1:11Speaker 4: speaking of the top of guys, it's made up of
- 1:14Speaker 4: two tho five hundred and ninety individual album covers and
- 1:17Speaker 4: he's the world's first microscopic album cover ever. Like the
- 1:21Speaker 4: ngratulations ingratulations, the way, the fucking how the fun did
- 1:25Speaker 4: you come up with the idea?
- 1:28Speaker 1: I don't know this.
- 1:29Speaker 5: There's this artist in Melbourne called Bootlegg Comics. They're legends.
- 1:33Speaker 5: He's got a huge mural in the city and we're
- 1:36Speaker 5: looking at it. We're like, this is absolutely incredible. So
- 1:38Speaker 5: we got him to see how much it could possibly do. So, yeah,
- 1:41Speaker 5: the album comes with a magnifying glass, so you can
- 1:43Speaker 5: look at the whole regular cover.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Oh look at that.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Yeah, any red herrings or any of cool little things
- 1:52Speaker 4: on there that people can be looking out for.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Oh yeah, every every every square inch is its.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Own art to discover something new.
- 2:01Speaker 3: There's a billboard in Collingwood that's about you know, three
- 2:06Speaker 3: whatever square I mean.
- 2:07Speaker 7: Chris and Maiden was down there the other day and.
- 2:09Speaker 3: We were literally staring at it for forty five minutes because.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Well, it's I'm sorry big you know.
- 2:19Speaker 5: There's a there's a bunch of puzzles on it. There's
- 2:22Speaker 5: one really good puzzle. We haven't actually said about this yet,
- 2:25Speaker 5: but there is a test pressing of the record buried
- 2:28Speaker 5: in the bush, and if you can.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Figure out, oh yeah, if you can.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Figure out the code on the front cover, you can
- 2:35Speaker 5: go and dig up a test pressing.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I look for the quarters.
- 2:40Speaker 4: So if someone asks you, if you're telling someone that
- 2:44Speaker 4: you've just released a new album, what do you say?
- 2:47Speaker 1: What do you mean? Yeah?
- 2:49Speaker 6: I was just trying to catch you out then and
- 2:50Speaker 6: get you to pronounce it for me. But I didn't.
- 2:54Speaker 2: A pfl.
- 3:00Speaker 6: I'm not going to get funk all out of here you,
- 3:01Speaker 6: So we'll move on. Tell us a bit of the
- 3:06Speaker 6: album from a musical.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Point of view, and what are you going for with it.
- 3:11Speaker 5: It's kind of a different one because we wrote most
- 3:13Speaker 5: of the songs sort of in the studio.
- 3:15Speaker 1: All of our previous.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Albums, we've kind of had the songs one hundred percent
- 3:18Speaker 5: finished and we knock them out in the weekend or whatever.
- 3:20Speaker 5: But this one was the far more like collaborative effort
- 3:23Speaker 5: between all of us, and I guess we've all got
- 3:25Speaker 5: we've all got pretty different all the music we come from,
- 3:28Speaker 5: right an.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah for sure, for sure, but it's all like
- 3:32Speaker 3: there's room for all of it.
- 3:33Speaker 2: On this album, you know, like even the songs of.
- 3:36Speaker 7: That your natural genre.
- 3:41Speaker 3: There's a harpy to Come have a Moment in as well.
- 3:45Speaker 7: You know, like there's a fucking six minute electronicas song that's.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Not really any of our fortes, but you listen to
- 3:50Speaker 3: it and you're like, I could hear everyone on it,
- 3:52Speaker 3: you know.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Yeah, we've got Sea Shandy's We've got a sick eighties
- 3:57Speaker 5: like it's like a kiss, kind of like eighties.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Kiss, like a glam rock song.
- 4:02Speaker 1: It's all over the show.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's awesome. It's called Ready to Be Rich.
- 4:11Speaker 4: It's listening to the album this morning while I was
- 4:12Speaker 4: doing these questions up and I've thought in love with
- 4:14Speaker 4: you guys.
- 4:15Speaker 6: I'm falling in love with you. It's fucking awesome.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Thanks man, Did you have a favor it?
- 4:23Speaker 4: I actually liked your little fucking mash up between when
- 4:26Speaker 4: I'll write it down, did a little mash up between
- 4:30Speaker 4: song U A.
- 4:30Speaker 6: Ten I think and so o s.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah yeah, I like.
- 4:35Speaker 6: That, And I love animals. Animals is fucking awesome.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Animals good. You like Ship and fuck.
- 4:42Speaker 6: Money from Ship Fuck Down.
- 4:46Speaker 4: I was wondering how you're going to fit nineteen songs
- 4:48Speaker 4: on there and that sort of explained at all. So
- 4:53Speaker 4: for the benefit of people who haven't heard it, you've
- 4:55Speaker 4: released the singles Kohala an Animal, Like I know the
- 4:57Speaker 4: answer to this, but let us know what you think,
- 4:59Speaker 4: like the good sonic representation of the whole album.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Not really, Yeah, it's a fraction of what.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I think we went to those those two of
- 5:11Speaker 5: the leading singles of it, which were kind of the
- 5:13Speaker 5: kind of oddities I guess the album, but we're more
- 5:16Speaker 5: thought of the sort of video clips before the song
- 5:19Speaker 5: because they're kind of connected. The video clips for Koala
- 5:22Speaker 5: and Animal are the same storyline pushed together, Like it's
- 5:26Speaker 5: like a little sort of like you know, like eight
- 5:28Speaker 5: minute movie or whatever, the story happening between the characters.
- 5:32Speaker 5: And yeah, so that's good.
- 5:33Speaker 3: But it's like the tail version of like a grindhouse,
- 5:36Speaker 3: where like the first half is one so genre and
- 5:38Speaker 3: the second half is a different genre.
- 5:40Speaker 6: No, that don't say.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Animals actually kicks off the album too, like the first
- 5:44Speaker 4: song up and it's the heaviest song on the album.
- 5:47Speaker 6: From my point of view, Like, why so with that one?
- 5:49Speaker 6: Was it to make a statement? Was it to throw
- 5:50Speaker 6: people off? Like there's got to be the reasons.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I mean, what an opener?
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yeah, what an open Yeah?
- 5:57Speaker 2: I agree.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a fun really like, you know, tricked to
- 6:00Speaker 5: you into thinking the album is going to be something
- 6:02Speaker 5: more than it is.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Take shells and curveball.
- 6:07Speaker 4: I got to ask you, coach, because I can only
- 6:08Speaker 4: see the bottom corner of that payoff you ever flagged
- 6:11Speaker 4: behind you.
- 6:11Speaker 6: But it's that a Veggie might plag in your bedroom.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I actually I got to I got this one.
- 6:18Speaker 5: I got this one here and another one on the
- 6:20Speaker 5: other side of the.
- 6:20Speaker 6: Room with Veggie Might.
- 6:25Speaker 5: It's the greatest spread that humanity has ever ever created.
- 6:29Speaker 5: I just found these sweet seventy ben sheets, cut them
- 6:32Speaker 5: in half and put them on the wall. I'm going
- 6:33Speaker 5: to get him framed. They're like two meters awesome.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah, if you noticed, Chris.
- 6:38Speaker 3: But in the Koala video clip we shot at the
- 6:41Speaker 3: Vegiemi Museum.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I can't remember what town it is. It's
- 6:47Speaker 1: somewhere between Adelaide and Melbourne.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, I think it was the town where the
- 6:53Speaker 5: creator was born.
- 6:55Speaker 2: All right, yeah, right, that makes sense.
- 6:57Speaker 4: But that little passage, if anyone doesn't know, I have
- 7:00Speaker 4: a functioned law that you just got to watch that
- 7:01Speaker 4: little passage here about Benjimin and it tells them everything
- 7:04Speaker 4: they need.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, you know what I really liked is I
- 7:09Speaker 5: keep reading we see this. I don't know if you
- 7:12Speaker 5: can see the signs.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So there's like this text on it, and whenever I
- 7:16Speaker 1: read the text, I always think of interstand Man because
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's like, begi my beim concentrated.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Wow, all right, we're going to do that.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I read it every morning when I wake up.
- 7:35Speaker 2: We'll do it. We're got to do live.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah, concentrated the next track.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, next time, next time we did the LOLLI. It's
- 7:42Speaker 2: the same going to that.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Yeah, he stays in the album channels the rule chaos
- 7:52Speaker 4: of private functions live show.
- 7:54Speaker 1: But but you agree, well, I believe that's a mixed quote.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Actually, Chris, the the full quote of that is I
- 8:03Speaker 5: wanted to it.
- 8:03Speaker 1: It harnesses the live what's the quote.
- 8:08Speaker 6: So, Adam, the album channel is the raw chaos of
- 8:11Speaker 6: their live show.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Yeah, and then the full quote is through the power
- 8:15Speaker 5: of excessive studio Like it's like, yeah, it's late. I
- 8:22Speaker 5: don't know the Pool quote, but it's really good. The
- 8:24Speaker 5: Pool one is really funny.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Well that's not because I'm looking at the I'm looking
- 8:28Speaker 4: at it now and it's just there is in there,
- 8:31Speaker 4: so they you're quiet.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was cut in half, but it was.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I no, I'm going to try and find it.
- 8:39Speaker 5: But yeah, it's really the clothes, very very funny. I
- 8:44Speaker 5: just found the full quote, right. It's it captured the
- 8:48Speaker 5: raw energy of private functions, live performances through the magic
- 8:51Speaker 5: of time consuming overdubbing and meticulous editing.
- 8:56Speaker 6: That's a mousehold and I wonder they didn't put all
- 8:58Speaker 6: of it in there. It's quite was it yours?
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 9:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's perfect.
- 9:07Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, this this record was it's a funny one
- 9:10Speaker 5: because it's like we as opposed to it's doing it
- 9:14Speaker 5: in the weekend or whatever.
- 9:15Speaker 1: We sort of did two weeks in the studio.
- 9:16Speaker 5: Writing and recording it, and then we ended up going
- 9:19Speaker 5: to Europe, and in Europe we kind of wrote a
- 9:22Speaker 5: couple more songs.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Then we came back to the studio, recorded to more songs, and.
- 9:26Speaker 5: Then kind of ran out of money, and then came
- 9:27Speaker 5: back a few months later and then kept working on
- 9:30Speaker 5: it this kind of like over the last of eight
- 9:33Speaker 5: months or something like that.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it was what because we recorded most of the
- 9:37Speaker 3: bed tracks before we went to Europe. Went to Europe,
- 9:40Speaker 3: played a lot of the songs live, and it came
- 9:43Speaker 3: back to do the vocals and guitar solos and stuff,
- 9:46Speaker 3: and you know, when you play them live over and
- 9:50Speaker 3: over and then you come back to hear how you
- 9:51Speaker 3: recorded it originally, there's a bit of a difference, but
- 9:55Speaker 3: it informed how you sang it and definitely what was playing.
- 9:58Speaker 2: For the solos. So that was good.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it's weird, the strange.
- 10:04Speaker 6: Straight well, it's exciting close to your live shown.
- 10:07Speaker 4: The album is chaotic as fut so it's even close
- 10:10Speaker 4: to your live show.
- 10:11Speaker 6: You show must be pretty good.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, well mate.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Run a sertificate live show from private fashion.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Oh jee, Louise, Well, I mean kind of different these ones.
- 10:28Speaker 5: On this next tour we're doing now, we're going to
- 10:30Speaker 5: have a meat raffle at.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Every show because we've got nine copies of the Goofy records.
- 10:37Speaker 5: So every show on this tour we're going to do
- 10:39Speaker 5: a meat raffle and give out a copy of.
- 10:41Speaker 1: The last nine copies of Goopy A meat raffle.
- 10:44Speaker 6: Why a meat raffle, Well.
- 10:46Speaker 5: Because everyone gets a rapple ticket on the door and
- 10:48Speaker 5: we're going to grapple out of the record.
- 10:50Speaker 6: But where's the meat come into it?
- 10:52Speaker 5: You know what? I'll bring some for you, trying to
- 10:58Speaker 5: get you ahead any day may.
- 11:05Speaker 6: One thing I really liked about the album. One thing
- 11:08Speaker 6: I really liked the album.
- 11:09Speaker 4: There's the sensi humor through it all, Like you got
- 11:11Speaker 4: songs like bum Seeds come Big, dumpster dive and scratch
- 11:14Speaker 4: slot sucked in.
- 11:16Speaker 6: Where do you come up with this stuff?
- 11:18Speaker 4: Is there one member of the band that's particularly twisted
- 11:20Speaker 4: or are you all twisted?
- 11:22Speaker 5: No, we just at the it's all it's all good
- 11:25Speaker 5: pub band or bullshit. Yeah, the Toad where all good
- 11:30Speaker 5: ideas come from. That's that's that's where we were when
- 11:39Speaker 5: you know, we have the goofy record that smells like
- 11:41Speaker 5: Gwyneth Paltrow is vagina, you know.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And and that was the idea.
- 11:45Speaker 5: I think we were sitting at the Toad and we
- 11:46Speaker 5: were like, we really want to make a scratch and
- 11:48Speaker 5: sniff record. We couldn't think of like what a funny
- 11:51Speaker 5: enough smell would be. And then it was Lauren, when
- 11:53Speaker 5: we're sitting at the Toad, was like, remember when like
- 11:56Speaker 5: Gwyneth Paltrow made that candle. It smells like a vagina,
- 11:59Speaker 5: and yeah, we need something like that.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And she was like, what did you do that?
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, it's so funny because the week we put
- 12:06Speaker 3: the album out, winners and back in the media talking
- 12:09Speaker 3: about that fucking candle.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Like the coincidence of that is like we couldn't.
- 12:14Speaker 2: People thought we made it up, you know.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Quote of her is pretty good.
- 12:19Speaker 5: Literally a couple of days until the album was released,
- 12:21Speaker 5: you actually talked about the candle for the first time
- 12:23Speaker 5: in five years, and the quote was like, you know,
- 12:25Speaker 5: someone along the lines are like, you know, the only
- 12:27Speaker 5: reason I did this was because I thought it was
- 12:28Speaker 5: funny and I thought it was a funny punk rock
- 12:31Speaker 5: thing to do. So if you don't like it, yeah yourself.
- 12:34Speaker 6: Wow did you reach out to her after that and get
- 12:36Speaker 6: her to endorsement?
- 12:38Speaker 5: We're wondering if she's gonna she's gonna know about this
- 12:41Speaker 5: by now without a doubt.
- 12:42Speaker 1: So she seems cool. I guess we don't have a
- 12:44Speaker 1: seasons this.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gone pretty viral, like it's gone, it's all
- 12:48Speaker 3: over the world by now, so like you know, hopefully
- 12:51Speaker 3: has heard of it.
- 12:52Speaker 2: If she if she's cool with.
- 12:53Speaker 3: It and she can get you a duet with us?
- 12:55Speaker 3: Well you will do for what that fucking song she cruised?
- 13:03Speaker 6: Should we? We've actually got a cinema arm of heavy
- 13:06Speaker 6: not called heavy cinema.
- 13:07Speaker 4: So I'm going to get onto the guy that rods
- 13:08Speaker 4: that and see if he can get onto her cheam
- 13:11Speaker 4: and for us in funchat because I go to be
- 13:12Speaker 4: a fucking great little story.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's so good.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Sure.
- 13:16Speaker 7: We also did a cover of Yellow like a fucking
- 13:19Speaker 7: ex husband, so.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Yeah, cold Blade, Yeah the ex husband.
- 13:25Speaker 6: Did you make it tougher than the original version?
- 13:27Speaker 1: Because that was weak as fun man version of the rule?
- 13:32Speaker 2: Yeah, from the last seven.
- 13:35Speaker 4: I'm going to go back through and listen everything up.
- 13:36Speaker 4: This one made so to say you got you guys
- 13:39Speaker 4: my new favorite band. Today we'll be ask this one.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Guy's just as the humor.
- 13:48Speaker 6: I love it, like just the way I was brought up.
- 13:50Speaker 4: But the world's becoming more and more sanitize every day.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Like if you find in the wrong direction, now someone
- 13:56Speaker 4: gets the ships. Did you ever sense yourselves in the
- 13:58Speaker 4: right stage or do you just go with what's your
- 14:01Speaker 4: one and deal with the consequences later.
- 14:04Speaker 5: No, I mean we don't really like push we're pretty
- 14:06Speaker 5: we know what we're all the level of stuff.
- 14:08Speaker 2: It was good, yeah good. I mean we're not the
- 14:12Speaker 2: purveyors of good taste or anything.
- 14:14Speaker 3: But I don't think we know a line when something's
- 14:16Speaker 3: going to be you don't want to fuck it, you know,
- 14:19Speaker 3: punch down.
- 14:20Speaker 2: I guess you know. It's not about hurting people. We're
- 14:22Speaker 2: just having a good time and having a laugh.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Yeah exactly.
- 14:25Speaker 6: I'll tell you right now.
- 14:26Speaker 4: If have you released a song called Dumpster Diamond scrap site,
- 14:29Speaker 4: I would be ostracized from pillar to posts on social
- 14:32Speaker 4: media for about two years.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I mean, that's Miller's song. She wrote that one.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Yeah, she has been having yeah autobiographical yeah, yeah, it
- 14:45Speaker 5: was based on the story it's all right. Yeah, she's
- 14:48Speaker 5: a big fan of like exploring bandos and stealing copple wire.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Yeah, stream medal, yeah, to bag.
- 14:58Speaker 6: Yeah, to watch your film find out more about that.
- 15:00Speaker 3: A well, if you see the film clip was sucking fuckhead.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Yeah that's that's a clue there.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we felt Yeah, we've got another video
- 15:11Speaker 5: stuck in Buckhead.
- 15:12Speaker 1: We showed them at the.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Bando in Collingwood and yeah, Miller was off just grabbing at.
- 15:18Speaker 2: The wall.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Of wire and like on.
- 15:21Speaker 2: You just filling a bag with sps. Great.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Yeah, now you've spoken about your to already, but it
- 15:29Speaker 4: picks off this Friday. You made it thirty first in camera,
- 15:32Speaker 4: runs all through Australia and finishes up at Thrashfield on
- 15:35Speaker 4: June the twenty eighth. So aside from meat raffles without meat,
- 15:38Speaker 4: what other delights have you got in store for fans.
- 15:40Speaker 6: On the show?
- 15:41Speaker 1: Anyonet have been fan of blood? We hit load of
- 15:44Speaker 1: blood on the stage. Don't be good? Yeah, I can't
- 15:47Speaker 1: wait for Thrashville awesome.
- 15:51Speaker 7: Yeah, what.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Go wrong?
- 15:54Speaker 6: What can go wrong?
- 15:55Speaker 4: Putting you guys out there in the middle of nowhere
- 15:57Speaker 4: with no sound restrictions with Frank and Bucket, Tink parrot,
- 16:01Speaker 4: we go wrong.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Classes whenever we everyone's been talking up how good thrashvill is, Like,
- 16:08Speaker 5: everyone's just like that best versials.
