- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, Mike, I'm a curie here.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for listening to Bible Track Decos.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Got a question for you.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Have you ever gotten neck deep into a job?
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe as simple as helping a friend move.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you were the friend with the pickup truck and you got asked to help out.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: Or maybe you were helping your mom cook for Thanksgiving and you realized in either of those circumstances that you got in way over your head.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot more work here.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you've been there with a project at your job.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you're employer, your boss, or a coworker, say, hey, could you help me with this?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: And what you did was you got suckered into helping out with something that's gonna take up most of the weekend as you try to dig your way out.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, sometimes those types of circumstances can be helped by proper preparation.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible talks about unparafraising here about how a wise man before he builds a tower, he sits down and counts the cost.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're talking about finishing the job today on the broadcast and this week, and we're going to talk about how Jesus started something that we have the privilege of continuing.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: I've said it before, but to something agree, we, you and I, as followers of Christ, little
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: In the world today, and we're gonna look at the book of Acts chapter 1 in specifically verse number 1.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible says this, Acts 1, 1.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: The former treaties have I made Otheophilus of all that Jesus began both to do.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: and teach.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the author, humanly speaking, under the auspices of the Holy Ghost, the human author of Acts is the man Luke.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: And he was a doctor, he was a friend, a compatriot companion of Paul.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: And he wrote the gospel of Luke, of course, as led by the Holy Ghost.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: But that's what he's speaking of, the former treaties talking about the book of Luke.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: But here we are in Acts.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: of all that Jesus began.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: You see, Jesus, while he was here, his short ministry on earth, a little over three years, he set some things in motion that we are the beneficiaries of, of course, but that we get to carry into the future.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: I heard an older preacher man say this, speaking of Christians, when we win, we quit, and when we lose, we quit.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: We have a hard time keeping momentum, don't we?
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're going to talk today about being prepared to finish the job.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to count the cost.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see what it's going to take to finish the job.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Listen now.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Jerry Falwell, a senior back in the day once said regarding Christian influence in society, probably more in the political sphere, but he said this, when we win, we quit, and when we lose, we quit.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: We get our candidate in the office,
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: And we, we throw our hands up and we're done.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: We have a big day at church, praise the Lord.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yes, Sunday was coming two thousand years ago.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: And the glad Sunday came.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's when Jesus was risen from the dead.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: But Sunday's coming seven days from now too.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: And the job is not finished.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: Acts 1 teaches us the exact opposite of that thought of quitting.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Jesus began a work and he continued, he intends to continue it through us.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: Philippians 1, verse number six says this, being confident of this very thing that he, which has begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Christ not only began his work in us, he will perform, continue, and completed.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: So since the job is not finished, we still have work to do.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: prepared to finish the job.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: Here in a couple of months, Lord willing, if the Lord put some things together, it seems that he's leading that way.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Myself and one or two of the guys from VTI, we might be going to the back, back country of Alaska, down the Yukon River.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's not gonna be a sightseeing tour unless mosquitoes is what I want to see.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: There's, it's not gonna be the most beautiful time of the year to go to Alaska.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: I've been told it might of the 10 days where there it might rain six to seven of the days and all of that We'll see if Lord lives would happen.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: I've been told before we go.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get very serious if the Lord opens the door We're going to have to get very serious about our preparation Multiple things, but not least among them is the equipment and One of the gentlemen's been up there for about 13 years in mission area.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's just go get her
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: He said there is a difference between water resistant and water proof.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: You said you get the wrong coat and it has all the flashy signs above it that say this is a water resistant it might have the right brand name on it and you put that thing on and when you dump water on it for 24 hours straight it's water resistant and it resistant the best it could and then you're soaked to the bone for the rest of the time.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: You can quite literally get hypothermia and die even in the middle of the summer and Alaska because you don't have the right equipment.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: Another thing that we're going to need I mentioned mosquitoes.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to try to pronounce the actual scientific name, but there is a product called 100% DEAT.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: How many of you know 100% DEAT is?
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: Deep is the active agent, it's not a brand name, it's just the active agent, and you have 10% 20% 30% deep.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's 100% deep.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: 100% deep makes you feel oily, has a bad smell to it, and it will melt the plastic off of the glasses on your face if you leave it on too long.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: But it keeps the mosquitoes off.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: And he was telling me, so basically, the scheduling was one really, really small towel, not a village or what kind of is, but like a towel like 300 people that were gonna get to on this new contract.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: And he said there will probably be able to take a shower because the most you wanna be dunked in 100% deed is, you don't wanna be more than 72 hours because you're likely to have cancer goes up really quickly after that.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: But it keeps you mosquitoes off.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of a preparation.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: That sounds like a whole lot of fun, right?
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: So if I come back with a red well so over the place because I did not use copious amounts of what I don't ask me how the vacation was, all right?
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's not.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: But in all sincerity, what you got to be prepared in Alaska, the place, the geography, it kills people all the time.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Because you're not prepared.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: You're not ready.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Storm rolls in.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to write a crib.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to write a garment.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: You can't find your way back.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: Heels people all the time.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to be prepared.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, how do we get prepared to finish the job?
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you've got a preparation through Scripture.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: You ask them, hold up, but I'll make a.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: Are you saying that, depending on how next hour goes, we might have to listen to read your Bible prairie day for the next couple of decades?
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: because the job's not done.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care that you finish your Bible early, but I think it's giving you God all the way to Revelation.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: Start over because the job's not done.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: There is always another, no matter how close you are to God, there is always another level of commitment.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: You think, John, John, who was the one of the three that were really close to Jesus.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then John was even closer to lay against Jesus to hear his heart beat.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the last heart beats that he would physically have in the robe and human flesh.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: But there was another level of commitment for John for every one of us.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're concerned about read your Bible pray every day, friend, that's the bare minimum.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: Sing a Timothy 215 study to show they self-approved and to God a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: Hebrews 514, but strong me, belonging to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use, by reason of use, have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm 119105, thy word is a lamp into my feet and a light into my path God prepares his people through his word.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: preparation requires application.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there was some guys went up there to visit they would do an a project with the missionary in Alaska and they packed their 100% deep.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think in their care, I would check back him in which either way, security, it was coming through.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a liquid.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: But it must have been the check bag.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: They put it in the check bag.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: So you can have more liquids in there.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: You're not supposed to have five gallon buckets in there, but at the same time, they had this in there.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: And they took it because 100% deep is considered a pesticide and they wouldn't let it on the plane.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: So they'd have purchased it again in Fairbanks that had exorbitant prices when they finally got there.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: My point is this, you can have it.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: But if you don't put it on, it's not gonna do any good.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: And the mosquitoes will carry you away.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: I can have the best jacket and footwear and boots and everything known to man, but if I leave him on the boat and go trekking out in the jungle, it's not gonna help me out too much.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta put on.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: James won 22, but be doers of the word, not here is only deceiving your own selves.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: Preparation requires application, preparation requires protection.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: I've enjoyed being with the men in the men's Bible study last early this month.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: And we looked at the armor of God.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible tells us an Ephesians to put on the whole armor of a God that He may be able to stand against the wilds of the devil.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: Take your bibles if you wouldn't go to next four.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: Are you prepared?
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: Because the job is not done.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a question for you.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: Are you prayed up enough to get ahold of God?
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: If the job's not done in Acts 1 verse 14, I'll read it, these all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, and then Acts 4 verse 3, 1, you'll see this, the Bible says, and when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spaked the Word of God with boldness.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: In the book of Acts chapter 12,
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: The church prayed Peter out of prison in Acts 16, Paul and Silas in midnight.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: They prayed saying, praise in the God and suddenly there was a great earthquake.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: Can I tell you, we got to prepare, but we've got to pray.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: If you think you prayed enough for the rest of your life, well, understand, it would be like telling it's just like those that would say, well, I told my wife, I loved it when we got married.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't need to do it again.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: But understand, he saved us four fellowship with him, not so we got fire insured, and so we don't have to go to hell.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's not why.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: He saved us so that we can commune with him, so we can fellowship with him.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: If you went a day without talking to your wife and I pray that's not the case, then I wonder if there was some issue with the relationship.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: If you can go a day, it was a man that said, I rarely, if ever, pray more than 20 minutes, but I never go 20 minutes without praying.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great way to think about it.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't encourage you to take some time with God.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: Man named Samuel Chadwick said, hurry, is the death of prayer.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what we live, hurry lives.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, running,
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: but never taking time to just pause and pray.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: Are you prepared enough to finish the job?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: Are you prayed up enough to get a hold of God?
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a question for you.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: I realize it's Sunday night.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: Are you present enough to be a part?
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's Sunday night.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: This business meeting night.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: You say this is,
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: We'll touch it to save you for a vote.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad you're here for this Sunday night because we have a special service.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: But in the coming days, you know, vote with your presence.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: what you actually believe about and care about the future of this church.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: Have you prepared yourself to serve God and to finish the job?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: Are you reading your Bible to where you should?
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: Is it a daily habit for you?
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: If you looked back at the last month or maybe even the last week,
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: would it be a winning record?
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: Have you won for at the last seven?
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: Are you a perfect seven for seven?
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: I surely hope so.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: But that's one of the ways that we get prepared to finish the job.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: Stick around when it can tear this thought in this theme of the job's not finished tomorrow on the ground chest.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike and McCurray.
