- 0:35Speaker 1: Right, man, Bootleg cap Podcast special guests here, returning guests.
- 0:38Speaker 1: It is Designer Con season.
- 0:40Speaker 2: It is.
- 0:41Speaker 1: We got the homie Kevin from three D Retro and
- 0:43Speaker 1: Designer Con in the building.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Wellkome man, thank you for having me again. It's the time. Yeah,
- 0:48Speaker 2: this year, big year. How many years in a row?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Is this now? This is our eighteenth theater. We're finally
- 0:53Speaker 2: so now we can buy cigarettes, yes, yes, yes.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And drinking somewhere in the world some places in the
- 0:59Speaker 1: world can drink alcohol and do other things yes yes, yeah,
- 1:02Speaker 1: sure yo, So this year too, man like for people
- 1:06Speaker 1: who don't know. If you guys didn't see, we had
- 1:07Speaker 1: Kevin on the show last year. Designer con is a
- 1:10Speaker 1: really dope convention that is in Orange County every year.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Well not every year, right, It's been in different places.
- 1:18Speaker 3: It's been different places. For the first thirteen years it
- 1:21Speaker 3: was in Pasadena, but OC's kind of the home now
- 1:23Speaker 3: the home now.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yeah, So it's how would you describe what Designer kan is.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You kind of got to walk through it to really
- 1:31Speaker 1: get a feel for it. But if you had to
- 1:32Speaker 1: describe it.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Well, if I had to describe it, it's like it's
- 1:35Speaker 3: like a toy convention, but with emphasis on the art
- 1:39Speaker 3: and artists. So it's a lot of individual artists having
- 1:42Speaker 3: independent toys. But then you get the bigger companies that
- 1:46Speaker 3: has more of a limited edition feel to it. But
- 1:49Speaker 3: it's not like mass produced, not like Mattel or Hasbro.
- 1:52Speaker 2: They're not there.
- 1:53Speaker 3: It's guy's like overseas like Meticom, Toy PopMart that makes
- 1:57Speaker 3: we call it mass produced, but the tech not to
- 2:01Speaker 3: US standards. They're more limited edition runs. What they do
- 2:05Speaker 3: is once they make something, once it's sold out, gonna
- 2:09Speaker 3: gone forever.
- 2:09Speaker 2: It's gone forever. Yeah, I look back. Yeah, so like
- 2:12Speaker 2: you could walk around.
- 2:13Speaker 1: There's different toys, there's different artists selling like prints and like, uh,
- 2:17Speaker 1: there's collaborations between artists and toys, and it's.
- 2:20Speaker 2: It's just it's like dope. Especially.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I feel like if you got kids, uh, you also
- 2:25Speaker 1: could be a grown up because I enjoyed myself. But
- 2:26Speaker 1: I took my son who was eight years old, and
- 2:28Speaker 1: he just loved it. I mean I spent a bunch
- 2:30Speaker 1: of money on ship that he didn't understand what he
- 2:31Speaker 1: was buying. We were on the look for squish mellows everywhere.
- 2:37Speaker 2: See you might not. You probably didn't find that.
- 2:39Speaker 1: No we didn't, but no, actually there was some one
- 2:42Speaker 1: one random booth had squish mellows.
- 2:44Speaker 3: So it's not a lot of that, right, but it's
- 2:47Speaker 3: like I feel like you can take your kids there
- 2:49Speaker 3: and then inspires them. There's a lot of things that
- 2:52Speaker 3: they will open their eyes cool and just cool sets.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Like there was like some guy in jail I think
- 2:57Speaker 1: there was yet, Yeah, it was it was super cool.
- 3:00Speaker 3: People are creative for sure, they're artists. They have to
- 3:03Speaker 3: know they they think outside of box.
- 3:05Speaker 2: For their booth, you know.
- 3:08Speaker 1: You every year you guys do limited edition Bear Bricks
- 3:10Speaker 1: for Designer con only.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yes, it's correct, right, partner of with different artists every year.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Like last year, I think I got like the
- 3:18Speaker 1: limited edition box that was the designer branding. I still
- 3:21Speaker 1: have that this year. Talk about some of the because
- 3:24Speaker 1: I last year the guy I always forget his name,
- 3:26Speaker 1: the Obey guy, I have.
- 3:27Speaker 3: The Bear Shepherd fairry. This year we got Bobby Hundreds.
- 3:31Speaker 3: We got Bobby Hundreds.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Who is who was a part of like the Bare
- 3:35Speaker 2: Brick exclusives this year, so we have Shephard coming back.
- 3:39Speaker 3: He's doing the one thousand percent of the ones that
- 3:41Speaker 3: we released last year, so it's a thousand percent which
- 3:44Speaker 3: is a bigger version. And then he's we're also doing
- 3:47Speaker 3: one that it's called the Make Art Not War Design,
- 3:52Speaker 3: which he posted earlier this year. I think, without getting political,
- 3:56Speaker 3: I feel like this is the right time.
- 3:59Speaker 2: For sure for that message. I agree, So I think
- 4:02Speaker 2: we feel like we should release this this year.
- 4:05Speaker 3: So we're doing that. And then the artists, we have
- 4:08Speaker 3: Bobby hundreds to hundreds, Ben hundreds. They are celebrating their
- 4:12Speaker 3: twentieth anniversary this year. So we came together a few
- 4:15Speaker 3: years ago knowing the fact that it's twenty years this year,
- 4:19Speaker 3: they have never done a bear brick. We kind of
- 4:23Speaker 3: help collaborate, you know, facilitate that and to celebrate the
- 4:27Speaker 3: twentieth anniversary. So we'll have a special signing with them
- 4:30Speaker 3: at the show and the release will be a Designer con.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Another one will be Davs Mila. They're artist dual. They're
- 4:37Speaker 3: located in La They do a lot of super bright
- 4:41Speaker 3: flower paintings, graffiti La Muros. They're part of the Beyond
- 4:49Speaker 3: the Street crew that world. So they have never done
- 4:53Speaker 3: a bear brick and we'll have one with them as well.
- 4:57Speaker 3: And then we have this purple one right here. This
- 5:00Speaker 3: one is so fly. So this is a musician. He's
- 5:04Speaker 3: a singer songwriter from Singapore. The name is JJ Linn.
- 5:08Speaker 3: He's one of my personal favorite artists. You said he's
- 5:11Speaker 3: like that Michael Jackson. I call him Michael Jackson of Asia.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Voice is incredible as a singer. You know a lot
- 5:19Speaker 3: of people use this what do you call auto tune?
- 5:22Speaker 2: Not him.
- 5:22Speaker 3: You will go to one of his concerts, like in
- 5:25Speaker 3: the early especially early days when he was younger, you
- 5:27Speaker 3: could hear the voice without the auto tune was beautiful.
- 5:32Speaker 3: He did suffered a little bit of a vocal things
- 5:34Speaker 3: straight maybe seven years.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Ago being You've recovered.
- 5:38Speaker 3: So it is his twentieth anniversary as a singer songwriter
- 5:42Speaker 3: coming out.
- 5:44Speaker 2: This year as well, so he has a world tour.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Because we knew that we kind of want to celebrate
- 5:49Speaker 3: with a special collab. We went to Meticom saying because
- 5:53Speaker 3: they had a US stop in the US earlier this year,
- 5:57Speaker 3: we wanted to come out at that time with the
- 6:00Speaker 3: smaller one and then do the bigger one at Designer Can. Unfortunately,
- 6:05Speaker 3: with manufacturing, shit happen should happen, so we decided to
- 6:08Speaker 3: move it all to Designer Can. He just wrapped up
- 6:11Speaker 3: his tour in China, so he's a conniversary tour. He
- 6:15Speaker 3: just wrapped up the tour in China, so he'll be there,
- 6:18Speaker 3: he'll be here, He'll be a Designer Cam Friday.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Wow.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So you know for people who if they let's say,
- 6:24Speaker 1: they're like I want to go and I'm want to
- 6:25Speaker 1: get some of these limitedition things.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Now, I went last year and I messed up.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I went on Sunday, so a lot of the stuff
- 6:30Speaker 1: I wanted to buy was just gone Friday.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Friday Friday is the play. So Friday is well, how limited?
- 6:36Speaker 1: Like for example, let's say these two how limited are these?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Uh?
- 6:42Speaker 3: I'm not supposed to say a number, but under a thousand?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Okay, so you got to get there for.
- 6:49Speaker 3: That size under a thousand sometimes on the bigger versions,
- 6:53Speaker 3: under is under five hundred pieces have you?
- 6:58Speaker 1: Because I feel like bear brig have kind of like
- 7:01Speaker 1: became like this iconic. I feel like it's an entry
- 7:05Speaker 1: point for a lot of people into art and the toys.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Like a lot of people who are kind of like
- 7:09Speaker 1: generic street where guys who wear Supreme and whatever whatever
- 7:12Speaker 1: you you might go to their house and they got
- 7:13Speaker 1: bear bricks on the side of their TVs.
- 7:15Speaker 2: It's synonymous.
- 7:16Speaker 1: It feels very like much like an entry point for
- 7:19Speaker 1: a lot of people to get into art, to get
- 7:20Speaker 1: into the toy game. For you, like you've obviously you
- 7:26Speaker 1: guys had three d retro carry a bunch of dope
- 7:28Speaker 1: bear bricks. You guys just moved to Vegas from La Yes?
- 7:33Speaker 1: Is there like there's bootleg bear bricks?
- 7:35Speaker 2: Right? Yes? So how do you tell, like if it
- 7:37Speaker 2: can you tell if it's a fake bear brick or not?
- 7:40Speaker 3: I can tell if I have it in my hand.
- 7:42Speaker 3: In terms of the finish, you know how the figures made.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Because that's the thing now yea, yeah, like there's bootleg toys.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I didn't know this.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Like recently, I was on Amazon and my son, no,
- 7:55Speaker 1: this will happen. My son sent me is Christmas Liss
- 7:58Speaker 1: like maybe three weeks ago, and he sent me everything
- 8:01Speaker 1: on Amazon, and he sent me a fake cause toy
- 8:04Speaker 1: on Amazon, and I was like, they're selling a twenty
- 8:07Speaker 1: dollars couse toy on Amazon, Like, what the fuck is
- 8:09Speaker 1: going on?
- 8:10Speaker 3: Unfortunately, cause there's a lot of blue leg on that.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Especially once you get it, you'll see it's completely different
- 8:18Speaker 3: the original stuff or the real stuff that he sells
- 8:22Speaker 3: now with medical So on the bottom of these guys,
- 8:25Speaker 3: there's a sticker, so that is the NFC authentication, So
- 8:31Speaker 3: if you have your phone or anything like that, you
- 8:34Speaker 3: scan it, you'll tell you it's an authentic product on
- 8:38Speaker 3: Medicon So they started doing that.
- 8:40Speaker 2: One to come back. So you gotta look out for
- 8:41Speaker 2: the sticker.
- 8:42Speaker 3: You gotta look out for. But another thing is it's
- 8:44Speaker 3: just a finish overall. A lot of these are super.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Smooth, Like I couldn't imagine somebody pulling off like a
- 8:50Speaker 1: legit like this is a very high level toy.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Right, it's not easy to This is crazy to duplicate, right,
- 8:57Speaker 3: so they don't do everything they do super popular or
- 9:00Speaker 3: simple designs or just a blank one.
- 9:02Speaker 1: What is your in your opinion, at all the bare bricks,
- 9:04Speaker 1: what's like the one everyone has?
- 9:06Speaker 2: What's the most popular, what's the one everybody has?
- 9:08Speaker 1: What's the most what's like what's the most like generic
- 9:11Speaker 1: bare brick? Like you was like, ah, like, it's like
- 9:13Speaker 1: easy to get that. Most people have.
- 9:15Speaker 3: I will say a licensed character like a like a
- 9:19Speaker 3: Mickey or on those type of snoopy, you know, those
- 9:24Speaker 3: type of character ones or superheroes like Batman, Superman.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Those those are.
- 9:32Speaker 3: On the basic like somebody that just got into this,
- 9:35Speaker 3: right or what have right? Like I think most of
- 9:37Speaker 3: us love playing action figures growing up. So for us,
- 9:41Speaker 3: those ips are.
- 9:42Speaker 2: The first one you gravitate to it.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Right, So when you look at a Baar brick, and
- 9:45Speaker 3: if you see an American IP, most Americans will go
- 9:48Speaker 3: towards that, like Batman, Superman.
- 9:50Speaker 1: What about what's the holy Grail? What's the two or
- 9:52Speaker 1: three holy grail ones? I'm sure you probably have one.
- 9:54Speaker 3: I think the holy I don't have the Holy Grail
- 9:57Speaker 3: considered by a lot of people. There's a good piece, right,
- 10:01Speaker 3: you have to be a VIP. Ben Baller has one,
- 10:04Speaker 3: but you have to be a VIP on the list.
- 10:08Speaker 3: They make like a super limited amount. It was only
- 10:10Speaker 3: for Gucci's Gucci store.
- 10:12Speaker 1: And what is that if on the on the on
- 10:14Speaker 1: the aftermarket six digits? What's the most expensive because we
- 10:19Speaker 1: talked about your toy collection last time, Yeah, it's pretty extensive.
- 10:22Speaker 2: What is your like, Holy grailed, bare brick at your crib.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I have a couple of.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Causes that's worth it about twenty twenty five each, damn
- 10:32Speaker 3: you know, so depending the market, Well, the market was great,
- 10:36Speaker 3: it was here, so right now it's probably that price.
- 10:40Speaker 1: It's crazy too because like I see you know, I'm like,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I have an addictive personality, which is why I haven't
- 10:47Speaker 1: diving in too much into the toy game because I
- 10:49Speaker 1: am in I like, I'm into comics and I'm into sports,
- 10:52Speaker 1: and I'm like the perfect mark to just eventually turn
- 10:57Speaker 1: into DJ Amen.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Oh Amen, he's a fucking psacho path a little bit.
- 11:02Speaker 3: He's Uh, it's crazy.
- 11:05Speaker 2: It collects everything at this point.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And I wonder for you though, like, uh, you know
- 11:12Speaker 1: if anybody, I mean, you've you've kind of seen it,
- 11:15Speaker 1: Like where do most people kind of start their toy collection,
- 11:19Speaker 1: like it like based on because you're on the retail
- 11:21Speaker 1: side too, so you see a lot of toys. I'm
- 11:22Speaker 1: sure you'll see somebody come in for the first time
- 11:24Speaker 1: and then two years later you're like, man, we're seeing
- 11:27Speaker 1: you every week.
- 11:29Speaker 3: There's for us, the entry level will be the blind box,
- 11:34Speaker 3: the little mystery boxes like when you're a kid, the
- 11:36Speaker 3: booster pack of course, so a lot of the brands
- 11:39Speaker 3: do that, like Bay Breaks, the smaller version. They come
- 11:42Speaker 3: in blind boxes you can buy for seven dollars.
- 11:45Speaker 2: You never know what you're gonna get. Number one you'll get.
- 11:47Speaker 3: There's like plenty of design choos from. So that's like
- 11:49Speaker 3: the entry level drug I call it. You get addicted
- 11:52Speaker 3: to opening.
- 11:53Speaker 1: It's almost like the cards, right, the bastall cards, because
- 11:56Speaker 1: you crack a pack and you're like, shit, I gotta and.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Then if you get the super rare one, it's worth
- 12:00Speaker 3: a lot of money, super red oh you get keep going, right,
- 12:04Speaker 3: So that's that's for me. That's what I see a
- 12:06Speaker 3: lot of entry level people the blind boxes, and then
- 12:09Speaker 3: once they get into it. They're like they find artists
- 12:11Speaker 3: that they like. They gravitates to whatever artists are, from
- 12:15Speaker 3: Cause to Steven Harrington to you know all these wrong
- 12:19Speaker 3: English gear basement, all these guys part of our world.
- 12:23Speaker 3: They start finding what they like for their house, for
- 12:26Speaker 3: their hobby, so they go to the different artists, like
- 12:30Speaker 3: we can take costs.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Everybody wants to collect costs.
- 12:33Speaker 3: So a lot of people go from friving blind boxes
- 12:37Speaker 3: and go like, oh, my first cos piece, you know,
- 12:39Speaker 3: a couple of hundred bucks. And we sell them at
- 12:42Speaker 3: the store too, because we have some of our personal
- 12:45Speaker 3: question nothing for wholesale.
- 12:46Speaker 2: They eat the new wholesale.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Then we get a couple of extra pieces and we
- 12:50Speaker 3: sell it to our store VIPs. But they get addicted
- 12:53Speaker 3: to that once they have their first piece. Oh I
- 12:55Speaker 3: want to second piece. I want a third one, you know.
- 12:58Speaker 3: So that's how you grow, right and then once you
- 13:01Speaker 3: get there, you're like, once you get past Cause, then
- 13:04Speaker 3: you're gonna go like what else is there? You want
- 13:06Speaker 3: to kind of mix different things. Then that's when you
- 13:08Speaker 3: get too far. You're like, I have a lot of shit.
- 13:10Speaker 3: At that point, I.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Was gonna say, there's like another subculture of toys that is.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I feel like it's kind of somewhat very separate and
- 13:16Speaker 1: different from this, and that's collecting wrestling figurines.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Uh yeah, wrestling fingerings and bootleg wrestling figurings.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Oh, it was like bootleg.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, cause like my son, we have probably no shit
- 13:29Speaker 1: like five hundred wrestling toys from the last like I
- 13:31Speaker 1: don't know, twelve years or so. I don't know what
- 13:33Speaker 1: kind of condition they're and they're in his drawers. But
- 13:35Speaker 1: I always told him, don't ever get rid of your toys.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Give them to me, like my kids. My kid's eighteen now,
- 13:40Speaker 1: for the record, so he's got all these fucking I'm like,
- 13:43Speaker 1: never get rid of them, don't ever give them away.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I just you know, it's maybe it's like a connection
- 13:47Speaker 1: between him and me and his childhood. Right, but the
- 13:50Speaker 1: wrestling game is so crazy. Has Barebrick ever did anything
- 13:53Speaker 1: with the WWE? Hey, we got to stop the interview
- 13:56Speaker 1: real quick man. Shout out to our family at my bookie.

- 15:54Speaker 1: befom Come on, fellas, it's getting caught outside. Let's make
- 15:57Speaker 1: sure those cocks stay hard. All right, let's get back
- 15:59Speaker 1: of the interview.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yeah, we have two that just came in recently to
- 16:03Speaker 3: the store. Uh I forgot. I'm not at wrestling, but
- 16:07Speaker 3: people wanted people want. Yeah, it was. There's a red
- 16:11Speaker 3: he's wearing red pans and a blue pants, red plant.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Cody Cody Rroads American Nightmare.
- 16:18Speaker 2: There was two wrestlers.
- 16:19Speaker 3: They've done WWE, so they have done four hundred percent,
- 16:23Speaker 3: not necessarily a thousand percents.
- 16:25Speaker 1: So tell me about this Jordan one that's going to
- 16:27Speaker 1: be because you guys just dropped the video.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Today, just dropped the video. So there's a Jordan Bear
- 16:32Speaker 3: brick Fire. This is the last shot nineteen ninety a
- 16:36Speaker 3: NBA Finals. Metacom is releasing that overseas only, so this
- 16:42Speaker 3: technically not for US market, but for Designer Con. They're
- 16:48Speaker 3: bringing a super limited amount. They got permission from Upper
- 16:52Speaker 3: Deck NBA to release them only a Designer Con. So
- 16:56Speaker 3: we have less than one hundred big ones, less than
- 17:03Speaker 3: fifty one hundred that point amount a very small amount,
- 17:08Speaker 3: a less than two hundred of the smaller version of
- 17:11Speaker 3: four hundred Yeah, but like right now the buzz.
- 17:15Speaker 1: So the thing with that one is it's going to
- 17:17Speaker 1: be at design of come before it releases overseas. Yes,
- 17:19Speaker 1: so how much more? Like what's the like when is
- 17:22Speaker 1: it the general release overseas?
- 17:24Speaker 3: Again, there's it says December on their website, but I
- 17:28Speaker 3: think they mean US. I from what I was told,
- 17:33Speaker 3: it was supposed to go release from here and then
- 17:37Speaker 3: Japan stores, Singapore and Macau and that's it.
- 17:42Speaker 2: So that's dope. Yeah, overall?
- 17:45Speaker 3: How many pieces? It is a limited addition. I remember
- 17:50Speaker 3: the first one that came out was the rookie year
- 17:54Speaker 3: was gold. That one sold out instantly and now it's
- 17:59Speaker 3: worth like three four thousand Jesus so for the bigger
- 18:03Speaker 3: size wow.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so for us, you know, it's a big deal
- 18:06Speaker 2: to get this. Yeah, I was surprised. And this one
- 18:08Speaker 2: was like it's a.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Chrome, right, it's silver cilver Yeah, silver chrome with a
- 18:13Speaker 3: red Chicago bulls jersey. It's clean, it has a fourteen
- 18:18Speaker 3: on the feet. The Jordan has a Jordan logo too.
- 18:21Speaker 1: If it was the last shot, it was probably yeah
- 18:25Speaker 1: the fourteen Yeah, yeah, So I wonder because during the pandemic,
- 18:32Speaker 1: hard assets like toys like rolexes, like basketball.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Cards they shot through the roof.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Yeah, they shot now a lot of that stuff. I'm
- 18:40Speaker 1: not sure about the toy market, but I know a
- 18:41Speaker 1: lot of like the sports cards market and the watch
- 18:43Speaker 1: market is cooled off a little bit. Has the resale
- 18:46Speaker 1: market on the toy game chilled out a bit in
- 18:49Speaker 1: terms of where.
- 18:50Speaker 3: It was, Yeah, definitely in terms of let's say, taking
- 18:54Speaker 3: the collectible business fair bricks, they were at one point
- 18:58Speaker 3: super hard to get everybody wanted price.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Shot up through the roof in the pandemic.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Now that's kind of just like everything else has kind
- 19:07Speaker 3: of gone down. That's the reason why you know, you
- 19:10Speaker 3: notice I haven't mentioned on Firepack because you guys do
- 19:14Speaker 3: it every year, right, We're not doing it this year
- 19:16Speaker 3: due to the market conditions.
- 19:18Speaker 2: That's what Medicon call it, market conditions, because usually you
- 19:21Speaker 2: guys have the designer on the box.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Yes, So due to the market conditions, they decided not
- 19:27Speaker 3: to do the fire pack this year. They want to
- 19:29Speaker 3: focus on these collaborations anniversaries just so that we can
- 19:35Speaker 3: get these out because they don't want to make too many.
- 19:39Speaker 3: First of all, a lot of these exclusives of twentieth
- 19:42Speaker 3: anniversary ones were making super limited amount, and then they're
- 19:45Speaker 3: going to the artists and the brand, right, the hundreds
- 19:48Speaker 3: will have some for sale. JJ will have some for
- 19:51Speaker 3: his fans. So everything's very contained and limited. So the
- 19:55Speaker 3: only way to get it is to come to the show.
- 19:59Speaker 1: I was going to say, for you, how much of
- 20:03Speaker 1: your toy collecting is investing for later?
- 20:07Speaker 2: How much is it?
- 20:08Speaker 1: Dj Amen or I like to call dj Amn because
- 20:11Speaker 1: he's our friend. If you all don't know, go follow
- 20:13Speaker 1: him dj Men three thousand. He is a psychopath. All
- 20:16Speaker 1: his money goes to toys.
- 20:18Speaker 2: But for you, are you?
- 20:19Speaker 1: Are you the kind of guy who's like, I'm gonna
- 20:21Speaker 1: buy this toy because in twenty years from now I
- 20:23Speaker 1: might be able to cash out and retire.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I'm a fifty to fifty okay, So for me, like,
- 20:30Speaker 3: let's let's for example, let's say that Jordan Peace in
- 20:34Speaker 3: my head and heart, I already won five because I
- 20:37Speaker 3: know that's gonna be worth a lot, right, right, So
- 20:40Speaker 3: do I want to do I want to get fired,
- 20:42Speaker 3: of course, because I want to have one on display
- 20:45Speaker 3: and have four sealed. Right, That's what I want to do.
- 20:47Speaker 3: So in my head, a lot of my stuff are
- 20:50Speaker 3: if it's cool and it's worth something that I can
- 20:52Speaker 3: see in the future. I want to get two of
- 20:54Speaker 3: three of That's where my collection at times.
- 20:58Speaker 1: That's when you'll buy. You'll be like, you know what,
- 21:00Speaker 1: almost like Wonder Rock. Want to stock with the Sneaks.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Which I do with the Sneakers too, Like I get
- 21:05Speaker 3: minimum two pairs of each if I can minimum, you know,
- 21:10Speaker 3: like the Kobe Grinches, the Reversit.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I just gotta pay for my son.
- 21:14Speaker 3: I didn't even get one because I missed out on that.
- 21:16Speaker 3: So I'm hoping I get there's a restock coming this weekend.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Well the actual release is this weekend, Okay, so I'm
- 21:21Speaker 3: gonna hope I get at least two pairs, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 3: but a lot of the stuff, like there's elevens even
- 21:27Speaker 3: though nobody wanted them this.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Year d MT.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Guess what in five years, three years, they're gonna go up.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Of course, I got two pairs. You know, I don't
- 21:35Speaker 1: I like them too. Well, they were hard to get
- 21:37Speaker 1: when they first dropped. Are you about the grate fools
- 21:39Speaker 1: that just dropped with the Gold Jordan.
- 21:41Speaker 2: The DMP Defining Moments pay They're part of that pack. Yeah,
- 21:46Speaker 2: so I don't know why people are like I've been.
- 21:49Speaker 2: You know what's funny is like.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I just threw a few pairs up on stock X
- 21:52Speaker 1: just because like my man cave is a mess where
- 21:56Speaker 1: I'm just like, fuck, dude, I haven't worn these shoes
- 21:58Speaker 1: I had for four years. Like, but there was a
- 22:01Speaker 1: few shoes that I bought that were sitting that Like
- 22:05Speaker 1: I got those all red threes that came out four
- 22:09Speaker 1: years ago and I got them for like eighty bucks
- 22:12Speaker 1: on clearance, and now they're going for like three fifty
- 22:15Speaker 1: four hundred, and I'm like, these are like I think
- 22:19Speaker 1: I don't know if I posted those or not, but
- 22:20Speaker 1: it's funny. I was just I was just going through
- 22:22Speaker 1: all my my dead stock shoes and it's like a
- 22:25Speaker 1: lot of these shoes that nobody wanted when they dropped.
- 22:27Speaker 1: But I'm a three guy, so I'll buy any threes
- 22:29Speaker 1: as long as they're not hideous.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, these threes, these threes, these three.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Some of the fours that I have, Like I have
- 22:35Speaker 1: these pony hair all black premium fours that like nobody
- 22:37Speaker 1: wanted when they dropped, and I'm like, damn, Like it's
- 22:40Speaker 1: probably the same thing with toys two.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Well a little bit, yeah, a little bit. I think
- 22:45Speaker 3: a lot of times is artists too for what we're now. Yeah,
- 22:48Speaker 3: so at a certain point, if an artist right now
- 22:50Speaker 3: is not well known, but his stuff is relatively cheap
- 22:53Speaker 3: and limited, you.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Buy that might because you're kind of investing in the artists.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Yeah, just like cause right years ago he's not what
- 23:01Speaker 3: he is now, So if you had older pieces, it's
- 23:04Speaker 3: worth a lot more.
- 23:05Speaker 2: So it is kind of like that.
- 23:07Speaker 3: But like like like you said about Jordan's uh, you know,
- 23:11Speaker 3: the certain models are always good, doesn't matter what kind
- 23:13Speaker 3: of color they put. Eventually, when people don't want them,
- 23:16Speaker 3: a couple of years later, they want them because they're
- 23:20Speaker 3: done right. They're just a limited edition. It's a limited edition.
- 23:23Speaker 3: It's a limited edition. Part of our nature. This nature.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Same thing. If you don't get this bear broke now,
- 23:30Speaker 3: so I can get them next week.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Or next year. But once they're sold out, then you
- 23:34Speaker 2: got to pay.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Second, do you remember those animal print threes that came
- 23:37Speaker 1: out They had like all the animal hair on.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Three years ago?
- 23:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I have those fucking fire When they dropped, they
- 23:43Speaker 1: were so easy to get.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Now they're going for bread yeah, and there's a fire.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I'm like nobody with these when they they were so bad.
- 23:49Speaker 2: I love those. Yeah, those were great.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Hey, what y'all, I'm excited because I'm going to be

- 26:06Speaker 1: So for people who don't know Designer Cons this weekend,
- 26:08Speaker 1: we're gonna drop the episode tomorrow. So tomorrow will be Wednesday.
- 26:12Speaker 1: So if you're watching this, if you're in the LA area,
- 26:14Speaker 1: you gotta pull up. Man, it's definitely worth even if
- 26:17Speaker 1: you're in like Phoenix, San Diego, Vegas.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Make the drive. Look, I made the drive. I moved
- 26:24Speaker 3: to Vegas, so I was gonna.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Say, you guys for people who don't know you guys
- 26:27Speaker 1: are also behind the store three D Retro, which was.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Based in kind of Bourbon Glende area, Burban Glende there
- 26:33Speaker 3: for ten years.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Just move to Vegas. Just moved to Vegas this summer.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Is it better? Yes?
- 26:39Speaker 1: I feel like because you guys were in a location
- 26:42Speaker 1: where I don't feel like a lot of people knew
- 26:44Speaker 1: you were there in terms of like generic generator traffic wise, right,
- 26:48Speaker 1: I feel like because I know where you guys are
- 26:49Speaker 1: in Vegas. So you guys must get just a lot
- 26:51Speaker 1: more foot traffic.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot more exposure now where we were because
- 26:57Speaker 3: we owned the land in the building, so we put.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Murals and all that stuff. Oh yeah, it was sick.
- 27:02Speaker 3: It's beautiful. But the thing is La is so big,
- 27:06Speaker 3: like it's travel from one point to another point to
- 27:09Speaker 3: go to Glendale.
- 27:10Speaker 2: On the track.
- 27:11Speaker 1: If someone lives in Gardena or something, they don't want
- 27:12Speaker 1: to They don't want to go at all.
- 27:14Speaker 3: So what I found in Vegas is every from one
- 27:18Speaker 3: point to another, it's within thirty minutes.
- 27:20Speaker 1: No matter, and there was no traffic and everybody you're
- 27:24Speaker 1: you can now become a destination spot for when people
- 27:27Speaker 1: come in from from where.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Wherever they're at?
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah, where were we at? Have you already experienced at where?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Like people are like, yo, I came into town, I
- 27:32Speaker 1: got to come back.
- 27:34Speaker 2: We just posted it.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Somebody said they came to Vegas there's a first stop
- 27:38Speaker 3: because they noticed that we're there and be before when
- 27:41Speaker 3: they were in La they can't make it, so now
- 27:43Speaker 3: they go there.
- 27:44Speaker 1: More people go to Vegas in LA. I feel like
- 27:46Speaker 1: you know Las, they go to Disneyland and.
- 27:49Speaker 3: How many Disneyland trips you take per year exactly. So
- 27:52Speaker 3: Vegas a lot of people take it for leisure and work.
- 27:56Speaker 3: There's a lot of convention on, a lot of stuff
- 27:59Speaker 3: going on in Vegas.
- 28:00Speaker 2: To business has been booming.
- 28:02Speaker 3: It's been great, it's been doing well. So you know,
- 28:07Speaker 3: there might be a I don't know if I should
- 28:08Speaker 3: say it, but s designer com will be in Vegas
- 28:12Speaker 3: next year too.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Wow.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Yeah, so this is our last year, and so if
- 28:17Speaker 3: you've never been and you're in LA, you should go
- 28:19Speaker 3: to designerclon dot com. Grab your tickets, get the VIP
- 28:24Speaker 3: that's still available for Friday night, grab the Jordan if
- 28:27Speaker 3: you can. I'm sure to sell out. There's a lot
- 28:30Speaker 3: of ton of exclusives, uh, special guests, and then Saturday
- 28:34Speaker 3: we have signings, just a bunch of cool stuff. Probably
- 28:36Speaker 3: will see you there, the people get to see you.
- 28:39Speaker 3: But yeah, this will be our last year. You know,
- 28:41Speaker 3: when we turn eighteen, we gotta go to leave our nest.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Hey listen, I am excited because now I have an
- 28:47Speaker 1: excuse to go to Vegas. Any excuse to go to
- 28:49Speaker 1: Vegas a good excuse in Vegas.
- 28:51Speaker 2: I already have things planned. Oh, it's gonna be crazy.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I'm sure. Yo.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Last question I'm wondering. We talked Earli about your personal
- 28:59Speaker 1: collection and what is a toy you'll never sell that
- 29:02Speaker 1: you own that just means something to you that you
- 29:04Speaker 1: just like, that you love that just I.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Mean, I want to say never, but in terms of
- 29:09Speaker 2: like terms of yeah, you get jagged.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Uh.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I think my car.
- 29:15Speaker 3: There's three bark cause I have those three that's I
- 29:20Speaker 3: got it for retail like five hundred bucks. Now they're
- 29:23Speaker 3: twenty five thousand each, right, So yes, I can't sell it.
- 29:28Speaker 3: But then that's something that I don't know if I
- 29:30Speaker 3: I could personally pay twenty five grand on a toy.
- 29:33Speaker 3: I don't know if I can do that. Yeah, right,
- 29:35Speaker 3: so that's probably I won't sell. And then another figure
- 29:39Speaker 3: I have was the one that got me into all
- 29:41Speaker 3: This was a Stuicy figure that's like a skateboarder. Stucy
- 29:46Speaker 3: used to sell them twenty years ago their store. That
- 29:50Speaker 3: was the first figure that I ever bought.
- 29:52Speaker 2: That's what kind of got you in.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm like, this is cool because I'm a big guy.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I couldn't fit their clothes, right, I got to buy something.
- 30:00Speaker 3: So by the accessories. Yeah, so like that's how I
- 30:03Speaker 3: got into it, Like, oh I can buy something and
- 30:05Speaker 3: it's a cool little figure and that kind of got
- 30:08Speaker 3: me into the rabbit hole of designer toys from kid
- 30:11Speaker 3: Robot to Metcalm.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Kid Robot had a wave, man, I remember that that
- 30:15Speaker 2: Storre in Vegas too.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Ten years, fifteen years, fifteen glorious years of and then
- 30:21Speaker 3: they kind of just you know, it's unfortunate.
- 30:24Speaker 2: You know we are.
- 30:25Speaker 3: We are celebrating the life of Frank Ozick this year
- 30:29Speaker 3: at the show. He unfortunately passed away this year. He
- 30:32Speaker 3: was the creative director of ki Robot the last few years. Yeah,
- 30:37Speaker 3: so like we'll remembering him there. Great panels too. I
- 30:40Speaker 3: think Amen's doing something hip hop, like I told him,
- 30:44Speaker 3: you know, I would love him to him and Detroit
- 30:47Speaker 3: is curating a whole day, so Sunday will be hip
- 30:52Speaker 3: hop and art Like what does that mean with each other?
- 30:54Speaker 1: Right?
- 30:55Speaker 3: A lot of artists that comes through our show, like
- 30:59Speaker 3: uh murrs Like he was part of a booth last year.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's got I mean he's had his own comic.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I have a signed copy of his comic books ten
- 31:07Speaker 1: years ago.
- 31:08Speaker 3: So people in hip hop have done stuff in the
- 31:11Speaker 3: collectibles world for sure all the time. I mean, shit
- 31:13Speaker 3: Brun the Jewels got some sick toys, the ghost face
- 31:15Speaker 3: kill ushit exactly.
