Transcript
- 0:00All right, Hello, everybody. We are live the Kenny Wallace
- 0:03Show. There he is, Herm.
- 0:05The herminator. Kenny Wallace.
- 0:07I am Charlie Marlow. We said, you know what?
- 0:09We're going to do a live show because it's Daytona week, Herm.
- 0:13There's so much going on. There's the good, there's the
- 0:17bad, there's the ugly. There's the drama.
- 0:20There's racing every night. And people love it.
- 0:22And first of all, how the hell are you, Sir?
- 0:25Buddy, I'm doing really good. You know, we've been doing
- 0:29coffee with Kenny and of course, I went to Europe, I went to
- 0:34Daytona. We raced at Volusia.
- 0:36That Sunoco dirt car was fast, ran real good.
- 0:39Now, we didn't get a Gator. That was a little disappointing,
- 0:42but we sure did show up and we were super fast on the last
- 0:46night. But yeah, I, I, I'm watching the
- 0:50ARCA race right now and it's listen, it's a, it's a good
- 0:55race. But they are, they are loose.
- 0:57They are trying to reckon, Charlie, they have only went 40
- 1:01laps in one hour. It they have, they have been
- 1:05racing for a little over an hour and they've gone 40 laps.
- 1:10And the breaking news is that Cletus McFarlane, who has 4.1
- 1:15million followers on YouTube, Cletus McFarlane has wrecked out
- 1:20and but he'll, he'll make a good YouTube special out of that.
- 1:25But they're they're bopping and weaving it and they even have
- 1:30Elio Castroneves is running 16th and that's a whole nother story.
- 1:34So that that's what I have for you right now.
- 1:37I'm doing good. All right, you know, Cletus
- 1:39McFarlane, by the way, we got to get him on Kenny conversation.
- 1:42He might be the one person that people ask for more than anybody
- 1:47else in the comments that you need to interview.
- 1:50And we I think we can get him and here's why because he's
- 1:54really good friends with Greg Biffle.
- 1:58And I don't know if I ever got his phone number from Biffle.
- 2:02Let me see. OO Now you know what's great
- 2:05about this is that when he went to NASCAR, he had to use his
- 2:10real name. So his real name is Garrett
- 2:12Mitchell. And in Cletus family is really
- 2:15wealthy, but he dumbed his name down so people who wouldn't be
- 2:20mad at him. So he called himself Cletus.
- 2:22I'm Cletus McFarlane. His real name is Garrett
- 2:25Mitchell. Comes from a very wealthy
- 2:27family. And now I know why because he's
- 2:32very smart. And like I said, he's got four
- 2:354,140,000. You know, he's killing it on
- 2:41YouTube. So he's doing it right.
- 2:44But yeah, he's out. He wrecked out.
- 2:47And you know, Charlie Cletus got in trouble right away with
- 2:50NASCAR. I was this morning.
- 2:52I saw Cletus's post on YouTube. He says NASCAR has already put
- 2:58me, Cletus McFarlane, on probation.
- 3:01NASCAR told Cletus. Cletus, you cannot use your own
- 3:07camera inside the race car because that's banned because
- 3:12other teams can see some of your data.
- 3:15It's always been banned. You just can't do it.
- 3:18Well, he did it and didn't really realize the rules.
- 3:23So but he admitted his fault and so poor Cletus already on
- 3:28probation by NASCAR for breaking the rules have trying to create
- 3:34his own. He he come to Daytona with his
- 3:37own cameras ready for YouTube. But they but, but NASCAR knows
- 3:43they need Cletus. So they said, Cletus, you're on
- 3:47probation. We're mad at you.
- 3:48However, we will put our own camera in your car and we will
- 3:53provide you the footage. So Cletus, McFarlane and NASCAR
- 3:57working together. So it's all good.
- 4:01All right, well, Speaking of good, we have a bunch of good
- 4:03things, Herm. We have a few bad things.
- 4:06Where do you want to start? We can work backwards from last
- 4:08night. I mean, there was a ton of news
- 4:10earlier in the week right before qualifying as well.
- 4:13I'll throw it to you. Where would you like to start?
- 4:16Well, I feel like people like juicy things and and and you
- 4:20know, in business, they say, look, tell me the bad first,
- 4:23let's get it out of the way. So be be because of that thought
- 4:29process because there's so much good going on, right?
- 4:33Let's end with the good. Let's let people walk away from
- 4:39the Kenny Wallace show with the good.
- 4:41So let's get the bad. I would say the controversy
- 4:46didn't see that coming. Let's get that out of the way,
- 4:49Charlie. OK.
- 4:50So are you talking about last night first with Kligerman?
- 4:53Are you talking about Eric Jones?
- 4:55Because we got we got some options here.
- 4:58We really do. You know, they wrecked again.
- 5:03Big wreck. Sorry.
- 5:05All good. Oh, my God.
- 5:07I can't help it. OK, so you want to go?
- 5:10I mean, we can go in chronological order.
- 5:13I tell you what, It doesn't matter when you tell me.
- 5:16Then we'll check it all. So you're the boss.
- 5:18Go ahead and go. All right, let's let's start
- 5:21with the the Eric Jones just because that's that's the cup
- 5:24guys, obviously. So you have the the duels and we
- 5:28can get into the fact obviously, you know, it's the big week for
- 5:31Dale Junior and Justin Allgeier gets in and Bubba Wallace wins
- 5:35the first duel. But then the second duel and
- 5:37we've had this now twice this week we've had a driver with
- 5:41both Eric Jones and then Claire Griven last night celebrating
- 5:46Victory Lane. They got the trophy.
- 5:49Whatever it is, they got the well, they can have the, the
- 5:50checkered flag at least. And then Nope, not so fast.
- 5:54So, and it was, it was pretty funny.
- 5:56It, it sucked for Eric Jones, but you're you're watching him,
- 5:59you're seeing him, he's looking at the camera at that point, he
- 6:02probably knows there's a decent chance they're going to take
- 6:04that win from him. And of course, the caution, it
- 6:07came out and when it did, Austin Sindrich was ahead.
- 6:10So no win for Eric Jones. And I remember on Coffee with
- 6:12Kenny, you said you didn't really love that decision.
- 6:16So first of all, what you said was key.
- 6:19When they were showing Eric Jones, he knew he didn't win the
- 6:24race. He you know, you know that,
- 6:26right? Let me just say this.
- 6:29The reason we all wanted Eric Jones to win because the number
- 6:3443 at Daytona, that's key. We know Bobby Hamilton has one
- 6:40in the 43. We know the 43 is 1.
- 6:42The number 43, Richard Petty has not won at Daytona since 1977.
- 6:50It was really good to see that. You know, Jimmie Johnson owned
- 6:54the team. That's that's another story.
- 6:56Jimmie Johnson owns that team now, Charlie, he said that the
- 7:01original owner just wanted to relax.
- 7:04I saw the press conference. So Jimmie Johnson reports that
- 7:09the original owner just wanted to relax and enjoy it.
- 7:13He didn't want to get involved in, you know, making the team
- 7:16better. And I heard that the new legacy
- 7:21team basically with Jimmie Johnson and of course Eric
- 7:25Jones, that nobody even knows anybody because they cleaned
- 7:29house over there. So the Eric Jones car is as of
- 7:34right now quicker because Jimmie Johnson, our seven time
- 7:38champion, clean the house and that's what they said on an
- 7:42interview and Jimmy answered it. So and then along with that came
- 7:46that hey, yeah, you know what is it?
- 7:49The original Gallagher is is the original owner Maury Maury said,
- 7:54look man, I just want to smoke cigars and have a drink and
- 7:56watch y'all race. So that's the reason that 43 was
- 7:59upfront because I think Jimmy Johnson's got all his buddies in
- 8:02there. But you know, it was a hell of a
- 8:07finish coming to the start finish line.
- 8:09Now let's talk. I give you the back story on why
- 8:11the 43 was running good, right? They come to the start finish
- 8:15line. They're wrecking their butts
- 8:17off. They throw the caution.
- 8:20I don't know, football, maybe a football field, maybe a half a
- 8:24football field before the start finish line.
- 8:26It's very clear that Austin Syndrich is still in the lead.
- 8:30And you know, it's very disappointing.
- 8:33I didn't like the ruling because it was a bummer that they ruled
- 8:37right. It was the right rule.
- 8:39It was the right rule, but it doesn't mean at that moment we
- 8:43can't say that sucks. So, you know, and then of
- 8:47course, I went on my rant on coffee with Kenny because and I
- 8:52still feel the same way about this Eric Jones loss.
- 8:58We wanted the Eric Jones car to win, but if NASCAR had not done
- 9:03that, somebody would have been saying you, you should have
- 9:06throw the caution, you're not consistent.
- 9:09Then you have Mark Martin come out and go.
- 9:12Look what happened to me. They didn't, they didn't throw
- 9:15the caution while I was leading or you know, vice versa.
- 9:19But I reminded everybody where the rule came from.
- 9:23It came from Dale Jarrett spinning out at Loudon.
- 9:28And back in the day, we used to the caution come out and you
- 9:30would race all the way through the wreck, threw the wreck
- 9:34almost running into cars that are wrecked.
- 9:36And we used to race back Charlie, to the start finish
- 9:39line. It was absolutely pandemonium.
- 9:43It was insane. So NASCAR invested, oh God,
- 9:48twenty $20 million and they put all these lines on the racetrack
- 9:53with, with digital lines, all these cameras and it's OK when
- 9:58the caution comes out, y'all let off the gas and we'll figure it
- 10:01out in the tower. So I was pissed off on coffee
- 10:07with Kenny because I said, man, it was a great night.
- 10:10Well, because of the very last 50 foot of one race, everybody's
- 10:16like, I hate NASCAR. I'm like, Oh my God, people,
- 10:20people. It was a great night.
- 10:22It was a great night. You know, Bubba Wallace wins
- 10:25over here with side by side, Dale Junior's in the race with
- 10:29Justin Allgar. That was great.
- 10:32That was great. Then we go to the second duel
- 10:34and it's almost, it's pretty much a photo finish.
- 10:37And now everybody's because of that one deal.
- 10:39I hate NASCAR. I'm like people, you, you are
- 10:44already starting off on the wrong foot.
- 10:46So I've addressed it. We wanted Eric Jones to win.
- 10:52But the rules, you know, you know, listen, I can see both
- 10:57sides. I can see people going don't pay
- 10:59attention to the rules and I can see people saying you got to be
- 11:04consistent. So that's what happened and OK.
- 11:09So to me, it kind of reminds me of the opposite though.
- 11:14So remember last year when you had the the race manipulation
- 11:17stuff at the end? What was that?
- 11:18That was Martinsville, remember? Remember at the end of the race,
- 11:22it was pretty obvious with with the cameras.
- 11:25They were on Christopher Bell, they were on William Byron.
- 11:28It was pretty obvious that the winner was not yet determined.
- 11:33And I don't like to, to RIP on TV broadcast 'cause I, I worked
- 11:36in TV for a long time and, and so did you.
- 11:39And it's a hard job. But I do think part of it and
- 11:41maybe the let down for fans is if they're hearing on TV and
- 11:44they're seeing on TV that there's a winner.
- 11:47And I know this is a very tough spot, but I feel like sometimes
- 11:51if if the broadcast crew knows there's a chance there might
- 11:54have been a caution, if they're a little less definitive in
- 11:59their call at the end, they go, OK, wait, folks, there's there's
- 12:02a wreck behind. We got it.
- 12:03We got to check the caution, make sure this is good.
- 12:06I think when you when you hear Eric Jones one, when you see him
- 12:10celebrate, you see him grab the checkered flag, it's so much
- 12:13more of a let down. And I just thought of this
- 12:15because last year when we're watching for 20 minutes, which
- 12:18was too long, but we're watching Christopher Bell and we're
- 12:21watching William Byron, it at least prepared the audience for
- 12:25knowing they didn't know yet who was going to.
- 12:28When I say win the race, I mean advance to advance to to Phoenix
- 12:32last year. That's what I meant.
- 12:34Yeah, First of all, I hear you loud and clear and I agree with
- 12:36you and and I have addressed this.
- 12:38I said two years ago, whatever you do, don't figure this out on
- 12:45Wednesday and say who the winner is.
- 12:47I said stay longer on the broadcast.
- 12:50Martinsville was perfect because they kept everybody on TV live
- 12:55for 1010 minutes and they said, OK, this is it.
- 12:59And when we all turn the TV off at Martinsville, that was that.
- 13:04OK, so now I know what you're talking about on the Duels,
- 13:08where, yeah, Eric Jones is the winner.
- 13:12And then all of a sudden you hear Clint border.
- 13:14Go hold on, guys. I don't know.
- 13:16This is happening because now they're hearing things.
- 13:19Maybe Clint should have not said anything, Maybe, maybe I I don't
- 13:23know the back story. Did Eric Jones go to Victor
- 13:26Lane? Not Victor Lane, but did Eric
- 13:28Jones go to the front straightaway by himself?
- 13:32OK, Yeah, did. Did his team say go to the front
- 13:36straightaway? I don't.
- 13:38Something made Eric Jones go to the front straightaway.
- 13:41Somebody. Yeah, most likely his team.
- 13:45OK, so, but but I do say that NASCAR did get it right at
- 13:52Martinsville last year because I said they should do that.
- 13:56I said make a make a separate show out of it.
- 13:59You know, instead of NASCAR Victory Lane, it's you know,
- 14:04it's and that's what we used to do.
- 14:06We used to go to, you know, the, you know, the race was over.
- 14:08Now let's go to Victory Lane. So they did get it right.
- 14:11But listen, we are in a tough era right now.
- 14:15We are in a very, very tough era.
- 14:18I mean, in such a strange way right now.
- 14:20I know this is not the same thing, but I mean, there's a
- 14:23camera on every street corner. You pick your nose nowadays and
- 14:27they're like, look, he's picking his nose, He's picking his.
- 14:30I mean, everything is on show right now and everybody's
- 14:39getting criticized right now. I do not want NASCAR's job
- 14:44because the only way they can do this is just relax the rules and
- 14:49say there's no rules. That's the only way I can get
- 14:52away with it. But then people be complaining
- 14:54again because we have this new era.
- 14:55This is new. Remember NASCAR, there used to
- 14:58be no complaining. It was a free for all.
- 15:00We would cheat our cars up and it was fun.
- 15:04And nowadays there's rules for everything.
- 15:07Yeah, and I also think last last night the Kligerman deal was in
- 15:13a way even worse. And I'll be the first one to to
- 15:15admit I I didn't watch the race, but I was following it on my
- 15:19phone. But again, this one reminds me
- 15:21of something. Also, it kind of reminds me of
- 15:23of way after the fact when you see the tweet about Alex
- 15:28Bowman's car right where like the race is over, you're done.
- 15:31You're done watching, You're done even watching on TV.
- 15:33You sit on your couch after dinner.
- 15:35An hour later, and you and you read on.
- 15:37X. Oh, Alex Bowman's car didn't
- 15:40pass inspection. He's out of the play offs.
- 15:42Joey Logano's in. I think in a weird way, it's
- 15:45almost worse when you do Victory Lane, you do everything.
- 15:49It's almost like the broad. And I don't know if the
- 15:50broadcast was over, to be honest with you, but it was late.
- 15:53It was obviously much later after inspection.
- 15:55And it's like, oh, no, Parker Clergman, he actually didn't win
- 15:58at all. Like you didn't see what you
- 15:59saw. So, so that's a great thought.
- 16:05Do we not do post race inspection because they've
- 16:10already inspected the cars before the race?
- 16:13See, I'm, I'm a big proponent of we inspected the cars before the
- 16:18race. OK, it's over, but that's hard
- 16:23because it at at at Daytona and Talladega, you can do chassis
- 16:28adjustments with the wrench like at Daytona.
- 16:31You if you can lower the rear of the car, Charlie, you can lower
- 16:36the rear of the car Daytona and pick up a second because you're
- 16:39getting the spoiler out of the air, right.
- 16:42But you, you know, NASCAR has got to give you leeway to like,
- 16:47if my I'm loose, you can put one round in the left rear.
- 16:51That's called putting ledge in. You can take one round out of
- 16:54the right rear. So you know, it's a tough
- 16:56scenario. You know, you, you got to give
- 17:01them adjustments during the race because they got to make their
- 17:05car handle. So here's what I say.
- 17:07And they used to do with our spoilers when a race is over at
- 17:12Daytona and Talladega, maybe they have a pad for the winner.
- 17:17Maybe the winner goes on that pad and they measure the front
- 17:21and rear and then make a make a drama out of it.
- 17:25And your winner, ladies and gentlemen, is Parker Klickerman.
- 17:28He's going to go to the inspection pad.
- 17:30That's what they do that Charlie.
- 17:32That's what they do for dirt racing.
- 17:34So let's let's do the scenario. Just like you said, Parker
- 17:38Klegerman wins the race last night.
- 17:40He's going to go to the pad, ladies and gentlemen, let's see
- 17:43before he goes to Victor Lane. Oh no, ladies and gentlemen,
- 17:47look, the whole world can see Parker Klegerman's rear of his
- 17:50car is low. He's not your winner.
- 17:53And they push him up and they bring Corey Heim up.
- 17:57Corey Hines legal. That's your real winner.
- 18:01I think that's what they got to do.
- 18:03That's my new deal, I think. And and, and and and Good time
- 18:06is right. That's what they do at Volusia.
- 18:09That's what they do at the dirt tracks.
- 18:12We got to get it to where we know who the winner is.
- 18:15Charlie, I agree with you. We got to know who the winner is
- 18:20before they do all those pictures in Victory Lane,
- 18:22because they got all those pictures of Victory Lane.
- 18:26What are they? What are they going to do with
- 18:27the pictures from Victory Lane? Yeah, got to go to the scales
- 18:31for the green light, you know, Susan says.
- 18:35I think that, you know, it is very, very hard to inspect the
- 18:41cars. You know, they're racing.
- 18:45They, they, what they do, they it's called droop.
- 18:48It's basically same thing is, is 1/4 pound height.
- 18:52I'd like to see NASCAR go, OK, there's three things that can be
- 18:55part of our broadcast. The race is over.
- 18:58Let's follow the car. The the height in the front is
- 19:01good. The height in the rear is good.
- 19:03On the scales it goes. He's your winner.
- 19:07So, yeah, I like everything you said there, Charlie, Because
- 19:12when you went back to last year when Alex Bowman was considered
- 19:15light an hour after the race, and now we put Joey Logano in,
- 19:20somehow, you know, NASCAR is listening to this right now.
- 19:23Somehow we need to make another TV show.
- 19:26The race is over, but let's watch him go through inspection.
- 19:32But only only these inspection points that make him legal.
- 19:38You know, the things that take two minutes, 2 minutes and and
- 19:43that could be weight, the weight of the car and the height.
- 19:47And we would have known last night because I love Parker
- 19:51Kligerman, great guy. So much to say about him talent.
- 19:55Parker Kligerman. He's a whole another story where
- 19:58it's I told Parker, I said Parker, this is so weird.
- 20:02You're such a great race car driver, but you you're going to
- 20:05do TV. You know, he's he's been in and
- 20:07out of that deal twice. This is the second time now, you
- 20:11know, he quit racing, but the truck race was an off off race
- 20:14deal charm. He quit the Xfinity Series.
- 20:18And so that's the only way I can see to answer your question is
- 20:24to do a whole nother copy dirt racing because that's what they
- 20:27do. Your winner last night, ladies
- 20:29and gentlemen, is Devin Moran. He's going to the scales.
- 20:33His weight is good now he's checking the droop.
- 20:36He's. He's your winner.
- 20:38Yeah. So.
- 20:39Yeah. And.
- 20:42I saw a couple people say this even.
- 20:43I'm sure you have maybe stories of this where if Klegerman in
- 20:47his victory lap, if he just Rams that thing into the wall, then
- 20:50nobody knows, right? You can't.
- 20:52You can't measure right. Boy, that all started with Jimmy
- 20:56Johnson, you know, and his crew chief.
- 20:59So you know, Jimmie Johnson wins Talladega and they catch Chad
- 21:04Canals on radio going before the race.
- 21:07So so the camp before the race even starts, they don't know
- 21:12that the camera is on. So Fox has it in car camera and
- 21:18I don't know who I don't know who leaked this, but there
- 21:22there's Chad before the race bending over the door going OK,
- 21:27remember now if we win this race, you got to wreck the car.
- 21:33Now that that wasn't that wasn't made for TV, but they found it.
- 21:37So, you know, I, I do listen, I do feel bad for NASCAR in this
- 21:43instant that they're just constantly trying to screw
- 21:46NASCAR. The teens are constantly trying
- 21:49to cheat, you know what I mean? Constantly and and then when
- 21:53NASCAR goes, you're cheating, then the fans get mad.
- 21:55I don't like NASCAR. Well, first of all, Alex was
- 22:00light. Parker's rearing was too low and
- 22:04it and there's 30 people watching the car go through
- 22:07tech. It's like Parker's ass in of his
- 22:09truck was too low. If you don't do nothing about
- 22:12it, it's going to ricochet through the garage area that you
- 22:15know, because there's people watching.
- 22:18You know, you can watch these cars go through tech, Charlie,
- 22:21you know what I mean? You can watch it.
- 22:23So it's there for everybody. See.
- 22:25So if you don't say, if you don't say Parker Klingerman's
- 22:29truck was too low, then it's NASCAR's fixed, you know?
- 22:34So, yeah, that's the bad. That's the bad is that you know,
- 22:38so. Yeah.
- 22:40All right. So, Charlie, we have put to bed
- 22:42the Eric Jones deal. We have put to bed the Parker
- 22:45Klingerman deal. What else bad do you have?
- 22:49OK, so I don't know if it's bad or awkward or just moving on
- 22:54basically. So Pitbull, Pitbull.
- 22:56I'll I'll read the tweet. This is from this is from
- 23:00yesterday, the 14th. Happy Valentine's Day by the
- 23:02way, everybody. Pitbull says ending partnership
- 23:05with Track House Racing. Over the past five years, we've
- 23:08made history by introducing NASCAR to a whole new audience
- 23:11and falling in love with NASCAR fans.
- 23:13At the same time. We have made the decision to
- 23:15terminate the partnership with Track House Racing, effective
- 23:18immediately. We're looking forward to
- 23:20performing on the sport's biggest stage this Sunday, the
- 23:23Daytona 500. It is a true honor, Dale.
- 23:27So that was pretty matter of fact, though, right?
- 23:30And the timing is kind of awkward.
- 23:32And it wasn't like Pitbull said, Hey, I want to thank Track House
- 23:35for our great partnership. And it was awesome.
- 23:37It felt pretty awkward to me. Kenny, as I'm reading that, what
- 23:41do you think? I have inside sources and they
- 23:49said to me, interesting to hear what your take is on this,
- 23:52Kenny. Like they were reaching out to
- 23:53me want to know what my take is. So I've got to, I've got a text
- 23:58here and it's just easier for me to read this out.
- 24:01It was, this was my point of view.
- 24:06I said this, my point of view is this now this is my opinion.
- 24:11This is not fact. Respond right here.
- 24:15We will write, we will wait. You know, team Track House is
- 24:18going to come out. Will they come out?
- 24:21Will they say what happened? This smells.
- 24:24The high heaven smell smells like there was an argument.
- 24:28OK, so I don't want, you know, Justin, if you're watching this,
- 24:32Justin Marks, don't get mad at me.
- 24:34We're just we're just talking. So don't get mad at me, OK?
- 24:37Justin Marks, I love you. I think you're awesome.
- 24:41Here's what I think with my experience.
- 24:45I don't think Pitbull brought any money.
- 24:49My opinion, they most likely used Pitbull to try to get
- 24:54money. I think team track house brought
- 24:58Pitbull in. He's a Latino.
- 25:00Daniel Suarez is a Latino. Latinos.
- 25:03Let's get let's get some Latino money in here now.
- 25:09Now they probably need money because Justin Marks is holy
- 25:14moly. I mean what is going on over
- 25:16there? It's getting to be where like
- 25:19you, I mean, you guys got two cars in the Cup series.
- 25:23Now they're they're trading all these.
- 25:27It's like it's like there's money flowing into Justin Marks
- 25:31and team track house. I think they probably need
- 25:35money. And Pitbull said that was not my
- 25:38deal. I don't got any money.
- 25:41And here's the reason I think that.
- 25:44And by the way, I was told I was 100% accurate.
- 25:48That's what I was told. I was told that I was accurate.
- 25:53And the reason I think that way was years ago.
- 25:58They, I'm not going to name names because he told me, but
- 26:03you know, you, you remember you had Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw,
- 26:07you had all these football players coming in.
- 26:09Well, they never brought any money either, but they were
- 26:12hoping that them being famous was going bring everybody in.
- 26:16You know, it's like you and I having a hero.
- 26:19Albert Pools is our man. Albert.
- 26:21Oh, he's so famous. Well, Charlie's famous with us.
- 26:25OK, What happens if I said my dirt car is owned by Albert
- 26:29Pools? And in my mind, I think that
- 26:32that means money's going to flow in.
- 26:35And then the fad wears off two years later, and there's no
- 26:38money. My opinion is that Pitbull was
- 26:43there to help them gain popularity.
- 26:48And I think with what I see going on with Team Track House,
- 26:53they they must have more money than God because they got way
- 26:58more than these cup teams. And I think they're looking for
- 27:01money. And I think Pitbull said I ain't
- 27:04got no money. I'm out boys.
- 27:08Now Pitbull announces this himself.
- 27:11So by him announcing it himself, I think there's it's muddy,
- 27:17right? You know, You know, what's
- 27:19Justin thinking right now? Justin Marks thinking now, do I
- 27:24got to make a statement? Who knows?
- 27:28He don't really got to do anything.
- 27:30All it did was force me to react.
- 27:32Why did one of the most famous singers in American history,
- 27:37Pitbull? I mean, look at I don't want to
- 27:40hear that. He's not famous.
- 27:41He's famous, OK Worldwide. That's his nickname.
- 27:45Mr. Worldwide. Yeah, so that's what I think
- 27:49happened. I think I think they said, hey,
- 27:52we need some money. And I think Pitbull said, oh,
- 27:55that was not my deal man. You know, and and Pitbull is
- 27:59going to do a pre race concert for the Daytona 500.
- 28:03That's why I think Pitbull had to come out and say something.
- 28:06Because if if Pitbull shows up at Daytona and does the concert
- 28:10before the race and he's not even nowhere near around team
- 28:14track house. Yeah, why don't you wait your
- 28:17car? And it's like, oh, we split up
- 28:19last year. That's another thing I heard
- 28:23Little Birdie told me they split up last year.
- 28:26Don't be getting mad at me. I'm just saying that's what
- 28:28people telling me. But all this started with
- 28:31Pitbull coming out on his own. So yeah, they got a mess on
- 28:36their hand right there. And either way, to me, you know,
- 28:38the Pitbull thing, it kind of reminds me a little bit of some
- 28:41of these ownership groups, like with Magic Johnson, right?
- 28:44Magic Johnson, he, he put some money in, don't get me wrong,
- 28:46like with the Dodgers and all that.
- 28:48And he's, he's been the face of a lot of ownership groups.
- 28:51I think even with the football, right, with the Washington
- 28:53Commanders, I'm I'm pretty sure, but he's not the main money guy,
- 28:56right? But he's the face.
- 28:58He's the one that's bringing all the money guys together and he's
- 29:01the popular guy everybody loves. And I feel like Pitbull was kind
- 29:04of that a little bit with track off to me.
- 29:07You know what people always say everything ends badly or it's
- 29:10not going to end. I still think it seemed like a
- 29:12really positive thing. Like, I do think he probably
- 29:14brought new eyeballs to NASCAR. And for what track House needed
- 29:18at the time, he was probably the perfect guy.
- 29:20But he's not the perfect guy right now.
- 29:22Charlie well said. I agree with you, everything is
- 29:25good. It just can't, it just cannot
- 29:28end in the public eye. If pitbulls out that don't say
- 29:33nothing, but I think what forced Pitbull to say something is he's
- 29:37going to do the pre race concert.
- 29:40You know what I mean? I mean it's no different than a
- 29:42rod is going to own what the Minnesota basketball team.
- 29:46I I just read word. Yeah, so here's Alex Rod.
- 29:50Is he really going to own it? You know, now that's the next
- 29:52question, because this is the new fad or these great at now
- 29:56one thing we know one thing we can't D bullshit.
- 30:00Michael Jordan owns 2311 because that guy's got he making.
- 30:05We already watched you know the movie and it's reported Michael
- 30:09Jordan is making right now forty $44 million a year and he don't
- 30:14he don't do nothing. So yeah, that's it.
- 30:19OK, how about and then we have a lot of positive to talk about
- 30:23too. But I, I think this is the last
- 30:24of my, my, my negative section. How about just so, so NASCAR
- 30:29announces and it was a timing thing, but about the appeal to
- 30:32the lawsuit. And I, I really don't think
- 30:35maybe I'm maybe I'm going to be wrong.
- 30:36I don't think the lawsuit is really going to hang over the
- 30:38season that much that that's what I think.
- 30:40But we had some news this week. And then also you've talked
- 30:44about this a lot. You talked about on Herman
- 30:46Schrader, just the, the fact that NASCAR Steve Phelps said,
- 30:49hey, we're looking for an outside equity partner to come
- 30:52in. We got to speed up our our
- 30:54global expansion. When I heard that, I, I wondered
- 30:57how much does the lawsuit also play into this?
- 31:01With the fact that if, if NASCAR, maybe who knows, But if
- 31:04they have to take a little bit of a loss legally over the next
- 31:07year and their economic model has to change a little bit and
- 31:10maybe be more pro teams as opposed to pro NASCAR, is this
- 31:15kind of the perfect time? That coupled with the fact that
- 31:18some of the family members are getting older, is it just kind
- 31:21of the perfect time to to start to to seek outside partners and
- 31:26kind of start the process of of getting out a little bit?
- 31:31All good stuff and all kind of tied together, right?
- 31:34First of all, the timing. Somebody said NASCAR couldn't
- 31:38time this because it was the way it was, right?
- 31:42But OK, So what am I? What I mean by this is one hour
- 31:46before NASCAR Cup qualifying. On Wednesday, one hour before
- 31:52Cup qualifying, it is announced that NASCAR appealed the judge's
- 31:59decision to let 2311 and Front Row operate his charters.
- 32:04OK, we can't control that. But I'm like, man, that's bad
- 32:09timing because everybody's reporting it and you got Bob Pop
- 32:14Grass, you know, Jeff Gluck, Matt Weaver, everybody's like,
- 32:17oh, this is weird timing. One hour before Daytona
- 32:22qualifying, it is announced that NASCAR is appealing the judge's
- 32:27decision. You know, NASCAR's pissed.
- 32:30Let's be honest. NASCAR's mad at Michael Jordan
- 32:33in them. They don't they, they don't.
- 32:35NASCAR does not like it that Michael Jordan won the appeal.
- 32:40Let's be very clear. NASCAR is losing on all this and
- 32:45it's we don't like it, right, because it's our sport.
- 32:48Remember we talked about this. I'm going to I'm going to it's
- 32:51going to be a comedy, right? Even though it's very serious
- 32:54situation. Watch this, Charlie, I'm going
- 32:57to play it out. Here's the fans.
- 33:00I hate NASCAR. What do you mean you're suing
- 33:03NASCAR? I don't like you.
- 33:05It's like it the fans are like, let me talk bad about NASCAR,
- 33:09but if you really do go after NASCAR, I'm going to be mad at
- 33:12you. And that's what kind of went on
- 33:14here. The fans don't like front row
- 33:20and Michael Jordan going after NASCAR.
- 33:22And the problem right now is the optics.
- 33:27NASCAR's losing at everything. Now.
- 33:30Now we're you know, we're we're we're still going to court.
- 33:33Remember, the original suit is NASCAR is a monopoly and they
- 33:39don't want anything. They just want, I guess I
- 33:41haven't read it, but I I guess they want NASCAR to become less
- 33:45of a monopoly. OK, so that's number one.
- 33:49We just addressed that bad timing one hour before Daytona
- 33:54Cup qualifying for the Daytona 500.
- 33:56Now this one that you brought up, they could time, you know,
- 34:03Steve Phelps comes out the week of the Daytona 500, says we want
- 34:07to sell. What now you're making OK.
- 34:14So I have in sources, I have sources on this too.
- 34:23What I hear is that NASCAR is not happy with their marketing
- 34:30program. And if you notice NASCAR's
- 34:34really picked it up lately with, you know, they're really, I
- 34:40really feel that they watched how the president of America won
- 34:46the presidency. He want it going on.
- 34:49Joe Rogan, he want it, you know, with these podcasts, NASCAR is
- 34:55taking notice. NASCAR's been very busy on
- 34:58TikTok. We all know that NASCAR's been
- 35:00all in on TikTok over the last couple years.
- 35:04Now NASCAR comes out this morning.
- 35:07Let me read it to you. Let me read it to you.
- 35:15Hold on here. And while you find it, by the
- 35:20way, I watched that documentary they made the other night that's
- 35:23so damn close about the Atlanta finish.
- 35:24That was pretty cool. I know NASCAR wants more of
- 35:27that, those docu series, right, the Netflix and all that.
- 35:30It's a great way to market the sport.
- 35:32Yeah, So Charlie Marlowe, I sent you this.
- 35:37Here it is. I don't know why it's not on my.
- 35:39I think I took a picture and sent it to you, but didn't put
- 35:42it in my pictures. But yeah, hold on one minute.
- 35:51Summary. I didn't take a picture of it.
- 35:53Bottom line is, is Adam Stern reports that NASCAR is going to
- 36:00focus on YouTube. Now that is per Adam Stern,
- 36:04everybody, NASCAR is really going to focus on YouTube.
- 36:09Charlie, they coming after me and you because me and you bring
- 36:13it on YouTube. Yeah, bring it right.
- 36:16But so let me find what my source told me about why NASCAR
- 36:23wants to sell. This is worth the wait.
- 36:28We don't have to talk every second.
- 36:32We can let this breathe a little bit.
- 36:33I'll. Tell you what, I can read
- 36:35comments while you're looking for.
- 36:36It go ahead. We got good time, Good time says
- 36:41good time, says NASCAR would love for the junior car to win
- 36:45the 500. Justin Allgeier.
- 36:47A feel good story for sure. Just delightful, Says TikTok
- 36:53doesn't equal Rogan. Different audiences, but I mean
- 36:57TikTok, huge audience obviously with.
- 36:59Younger folks, I got it right here.
- 37:01OK, this is what my source told me.
- 37:04That's in in NASCAR in the last few months, NASCAR's clean house
- 37:09in sales and marketing positions.
- 37:13Some feels is because they aren't doing a good job, but
- 37:16that paves the way for a media company to control those aspects
- 37:21of the business without messing up the core product.
- 37:24Hold on. Just like Liberty did with F1.
- 37:28So a media company called Liberty owns Formula One.
- 37:33So there's two prongs here. We don't know the real story,
- 37:36but my sources tell me number one.
- 37:39Well, I just read it to you. They're looking to raise money
- 37:42to be more, to be better with media.
- 37:45The other one that sounds more viable to me is Jim France is of
- 37:52age less a Kennedy is done. Ben Kennedy is young.
- 37:57And when you really break it down, here's what's sad.
- 38:02None of them are having children.
- 38:05Let's go down. Let's go down to the roll right
- 38:07here. Does Ben Kennedy have any
- 38:09children? Is he married?
- 38:11No. Does Jim France have any kids?
- 38:17No, Les and Kennedy's the only one left and all she had was Ben
- 38:23Bryant, Brian Francis out. There's nobody left and Jim's
- 38:29super Jim's of age less. Is that enough?
- 38:33So if you really boil it down, all you got left is Ben and Ben
- 38:39better get married and have some kids because there's there's
- 38:42nobody left. Straight me out right here.
- 38:45Am I wrong? Is there any?
- 38:47Is there any France has left? You know, I, I said what I said,
- 38:52I, I mean it nice. I don't mean it mean they could
- 38:55be selling because of that. Maybe there's no more.
- 38:58There's no more. There's nobody left.
- 39:00So I gave you both for everybody to chew on and all right, we,
- 39:06we, we talked about it and I think, I think that's all the
- 39:09bad Charlie. Well, let me ask you this
- 39:11though, because I do have a question about that.
- 39:14And I and I agree. I mean, look what whatever is
- 39:17healthy for the sport overall to keep it going.
- 39:19If you have to go global, I understand that'll probably piss
- 39:23off a few domestic fans here. Now you're probably going to
- 39:27take races from tracks that have two, but we've seen some tracks
- 39:32lose, just lose their race. My question to you is this, what
- 39:35do you think is a realistic international schedule that you
- 39:39could actually pull off that would be good for for business
- 39:42and not piss off everyone? I'm thinking if you already have
- 39:45a Mexico race, that makes sense. Does it even make that much
- 39:48sense from a revenue standpoint in Canada?
- 39:50I don't know. I mean, could you do one race in
- 39:53Europe, maybe one in Japan? I mean, you can't, you can't
- 39:58have these dudes going back and forth different continents.
- 40:01I mean, even the NFL doesn't do that.
- 40:03I know they go over to London but like, you can't have these
- 40:05guys be an F1, right? So here, here's my answer to
- 40:09that. It depends who this new
- 40:11automaker is that Steve Phelps says it's coming in.
- 40:15Let let's say. See, I think all this global
- 40:18initiative is all about the automaker.
- 40:20Let's say it's Honda. Let's say it's Honda.
- 40:23Honda's coming in. Where's Honda from?
- 40:26Japan. Japan.
- 40:28OK, so they got to go to Japan. What?
- 40:31What racetrack are they going to use?
- 40:33It's going to be Suzuka Circuit. Now we already I I raced there,
- 40:38I raced there, we run we ran three years in a row.
- 40:41No hold on. We ran Suzuka circuit the first
- 40:45two years. The third year we went to
- 40:47Motigi, but Motigi got destroyed by an earthquake.
- 40:51So Motigi doesn't even isn't even worth it.
- 40:54It's not it not even there anymore.
- 40:56So I think this whole global initiative is you.
- 41:00Let's just say it's Honda. OK, Let's just say it, you know,
- 41:04just for, you know, to further the conversation.
- 41:09Honda goes, we want to be a car maker, but we'd like you to race
- 41:13here in Japan. Well, we've already been to
- 41:15Japan, but I'm like you, you know, are you going to run in
- 41:21Asia? You going to run in Europe?
- 41:24If you're going to go to Europe, it's AI went to Europe.
- 41:28I just went to the UKI just landed in London.
- 41:31It was seven hour, 45 minutes from Chicago, so, you know, and
- 41:36Chicago's about two hours away from the coast.
- 41:40If you took off from New York, you could get to London in six
- 41:44hours, 6 1/2 hours. So I feel like, you know, it's
- 41:49logistics. Are we going to put these cars
- 41:51and crates and put them on a ship container?
- 41:54Takes a month to get over there. No, I think you're going to have
- 41:59to put them in global shipping. You're going to have to put them
- 42:02in big jet jumbo jets. Who's going to pay for that?
- 42:07Because it's pretty expensive. Somebody's going to pay for it.
- 42:10So my answer to you is the global.
- 42:15Why is NASCAR, Why is Steve Phelps asphyxiated?
- 42:19Why is he obsessed with going global?
- 42:22I say it's because the automaker, I say Honda wants it.
- 42:26And he says there's another one. So I think Asia is Honda.
- 42:32If there's something in Europe, who is it?
- 42:34Aston. I'm hearing, I'm hearing
- 42:36something weird like what? What is it?
- 42:37Aston Martin? I'm hearing all these things.
- 42:42But whatever you think, you got to be ready for both sides of
- 42:45America. You got to be ready for Asia.
- 42:48You got to be ready for Europe. And if they do that, you know, I
- 42:54mean, you know, you, you, you stop and think about why does
- 42:58anybody want to grow? Because it, you know, everybody
- 43:01wants to make money, right? All of you watching this right
- 43:03now, I'm talking, I'm talking to you, yes, you don't you're
- 43:07watching this right now. Do you want to make more money?
- 43:099 times out of 10 the answer is yes.
- 43:12Now the only reason you say no, I don't want to make any money
- 43:15because you're retired, you got a good job that's paying 90,000
- 43:19a year and your boss goes, if you're on the road every
- 43:22weekend, we'll give you 110. I know people that go, I'm happy
- 43:26with 90,000 a year. I don't want to make 110 because
- 43:29if I make more, I go into a different tax, you know, deal
- 43:34and I got to be gone every week. But nine times out of 10,
- 43:39Charlie, people all want to make more money.
- 43:41And and that's and and I've seen all of your comments here,
- 43:44everybody and you and we all say it's all about the money and it
- 43:47is it's all about the money. So all I'm saying part of our
- 43:53bad very wild for Steve Phelps to come out.
- 43:58He wanted to make a point. Steve Phelps wanted everybody to
- 44:01hear this. So and that's why I feel.
- 44:05All right, well, how about the good?
- 44:06There has been a lot of good as well, even if we maybe focus
- 44:10more time on the bad because people like the the spicy stuff.
- 44:13But. People love bad, so we give your
- 44:15bad, yeah. But the Dale Junior story was
- 44:20obviously the story of qualifying into the duels.
- 44:24That was great. Just an all Guyer and the hugs
- 44:26and the interviews and his sound bite about his his daddy at
- 44:30Daytona and how he found peace at the track.
- 44:33The ratings have been good, right, for qualifying and duels
- 44:36and all that. So there's a lot of positivity
- 44:38too. And I know you keep saying this,
- 44:40hey, NASCAR off to their best start and whatever it is, 20
- 44:42years or so and you're getting a little pushback.
- 44:44But I don't know, I agree. I mean, I feel like the there's
- 44:48a lot of positive vibes out there for Daytona.
- 44:51Charlie, before I even respond to you, you and I are a team.
- 44:55Can you read two things for me? I sent you everything and you
- 44:59have a 2. Can you read the viewership for
- 45:02Cup qualifying on Wednesday night?
- 45:05And can you read the viewership for The Duels last night?
- 45:12OK, so let's see. Let's go.
- 45:15We'll go qualifying first. This is from Adam Stern says FS1
- 45:20got 916,000 viewers for last night's Daytona 500 qualifying
- 45:26session That followed college basketball.
- 45:28That's up 12% from 821,000 for the comparable window last year.
- 45:35So that was qualifying. That's up.
- 45:39That's up a lot. That's up.
- 45:41OK, now, now read the viewership for the The Duels.
- 45:45OK, duels, I'm trying to find that one too.
- 45:46Hold on. Jordan Bianchi, I sent it to
- 45:49you. All right, Jordan Bianchi.
- 45:52OK, here we go. This is OK.
- 45:55This is Stern. Also, I'm sure you sent me one
- 45:57from Bianchi, but Stern says, let's see, FS1 scored a 1.836,
- 46:031.836 million viewers for last night's Duels at Daytona, up 12%
- 46:09from 1.640 million last year and the best number for the event
- 46:13since 2018. So duels up 12%.
- 46:18And what do we say that the qualifying was also up 12%,
- 46:21right? Yeah, By the way, Elio Castronev
- 46:25has wrecked out already. He's wrecked twice.
- 46:28OK, let's get a lot of visual results.
- 46:32OK, Brendan, Charlie, can I say who the winner of the ARCA race
- 46:35is or not? For sure.
- 46:37OK, Brendan Queen, he runs Dale Junior's a cars tour race.
- 46:45And I didn't see how right, because I, I was.
- 46:48But this breaking news, everybody.
- 46:49We'll get right back to why NASCAR's off to its best start
- 46:53in 20 years. But they were fighting for the
- 46:55lead. Brendan Queen wins.
- 46:58I'm I'm assuming it's that Queen he won and it's Saulwich.
- 47:05These are two these are two short track aces and 97
- 47:11Kitzmiller. 4th is Scott and 5th was oh, Elio finished fifth.
- 47:17He must erect crossing the start finish line.
- 47:21We'll wait for the replay here. But yeah, Brendan Queen, he's a
- 47:25hell of a driver. He wins a lot in the in Dale
- 47:29Junior's car store. So, OK, let's get back to why
- 47:35NASCAR's off to its best start for the duels.
- 47:40Last night we had 1.8 million more people watching.
- 47:45That's, that's up 12% from last year, but up.
- 47:51That's the best in seven years is what Jeff Cluck said.
- 47:55So, you know, people were mad that on Thursday night, people
- 48:01were mad at me because I I said how great NASCAR's doing.
- 48:04They were mad at me. They were mad that, that, you
- 48:07know, Eric Jones didn't win. I'm right, I'm right.
- 48:11And I'm not going to apologize for being right.
- 48:14And here's the stats to prove it.
- 48:15Charlie, when you listen to this, when you say 1.8 million
- 48:21more people are watching the Cup duels it yourself, 1.8 million
- 48:30people, Holy moly, that is a lot of people.
- 48:34Now NASCAR is off to its best start.
- 48:38Yeah, sure, there's some there's some juicy storylines out there,
- 48:42but NASCAR is way better right now than they've ever been.
- 48:46And let me be clear, NASCAR took all the seats out of the
- 48:49grandstands. We know that NASCAR will never
- 48:53be back to the old days. So that's an old story.
- 48:55That's 20 years old. We're going on 20 years now.
- 48:59NASCAR took all the seats out of the grandstands.
- 49:02They only fit 120,000 people. Now there's only 100,000 people
- 49:07of the day. Went back in the day, we had
- 49:09200,000 people. Guys, that's an old deal.
- 49:12We don't even talk like that anymore.
- 49:14The only reason I bring it up is for my older viewers.
- 49:17So got to get that out of your mind.
- 49:19It's no different than disco music.
- 49:21You all smashed all the disco records.
- 49:23You don't like disco music anymore, which I think is
- 49:26ridiculous. I love disco music.
- 49:29So see, this is life. All I'm saying is NASCAR is
- 49:33still standing. They're still getting billions
- 49:35of dollars. They ain't going anywhere.
- 49:38You're right. They weren't as big as they used
- 49:40to be. But that's that's an old that's
- 49:42that's just like old news. So right here, 1.8 Charlie Busch
- 49:50Stadium sold out at 47,000 people.
- 49:55We're saying 1.8 million more people watch the race on
- 49:59Thursday night. If that don't tell you NASCAR's
- 50:03kicking ass. I don't know what.
- 50:04I don't know what to say. OK, so they are back.
- 50:10NASCAR's off to its best start in 20 years.
- 50:13I told everybody why. And that's that, that's all
- 50:16there is in the racing Charlie, that race at at Bowman Gray, Oh
- 50:22my God, what a race. Feel good.
- 50:25Short track. We love the short track people.
- 50:29Short track, dirt racing, short track.
- 50:33It was everything you wanted. It was short track.
- 50:36They were interviewing the drivers.
- 50:37The woods were right there. Kenny Hamlin sitting on top of
- 50:41the hill. And Danny, you're on top of a
- 50:43grass hill here. You know, it was short track as
- 50:46you can get. So that shut all those people up
- 50:50right. Then what happens is they go to
- 50:54Daytona and and we we will talk about this.
- 50:59You got Dale Junior back as a car owner and they have been
- 51:02begging him. They've been begging Dale
- 51:05Junior. Please come as a car owner.
- 51:09Then both the duels were Charlie door handle, the door handle
- 51:13photo finishes. For that reason, NASCAR is
- 51:19killing it right now. One OK, let's say this.
- 51:23I hate NASCAR. Well, you might hate it, but
- 51:25you're watching it and 1.8 million people just TuneIn on a
- 51:30friggin Thursday night. So that's what I meant yeah.
- 51:34And and let me say this. That is the Brennan Queen that
- 51:37won the cars Tour Championship. So, Charlie, I just think NASCAR
- 51:42is off to its no, the Dale Junior effect.
- 51:46That's a whole nother story. But I just depended myself on
- 51:49why I say NASCAR is off to its best start.
- 51:53I just gave you the the the receipts.
- 51:56And I, I think I remember seeing the graphic in the the data from
- 52:00last year too. Let's be real, even if you're
- 52:02somebody who's kind of down on NASCAR, NASCAR had some really
- 52:05bad weather luck if you remember, especially early in
- 52:08the in the season and Daytona. Now look, they've already moved
- 52:11the Daytona 500 up an hour to get away from that.
- 52:15But I mean, like if you have to start the Daytona 500 on a
- 52:17Monday and I feel like there was a bunch of them last year, just
- 52:20kind of crappy weather situations.
- 52:22I know they did the whole thing with the Clash, even remember
- 52:24they did on a on a Saturday, right, because there was really
- 52:28bad weather situations. That's that's something NASCAR
- 52:31can't control. But if they have some good
- 52:32weather luck also early in the season, they can get that ball
- 52:36rolling momentum wise. I, I remember when the when the
- 52:38ratings came out last year and, and correct me if I'm wrong,
- 52:42even if the ratings at the end ended up being either slightly
- 52:45above or kind of the same, NASCAR at least parroted or
- 52:49championed that as look, this is actually pretty good from where
- 52:51we started because we had such crap weather luck in the first
- 52:55whatever it was third of the season.
- 52:58Yeah, and I agree with you once again.
- 53:01Here's what's crazy in life. We have to get lucky every once
- 53:05in a while. So NASCAR says we're going to
- 53:07run the Clash at the Coliseum in California where there's great
- 53:10weather, right? And the weather was crap.
- 53:14It rained. So they say, OK, let's go where
- 53:17the weather is usually going to be junky, going to be 20-30
- 53:19degrees. They go to they go to Winston
- 53:23Salem, NC and the weather is perfect.
- 53:27I mean, it, it was winter weather.
- 53:29It was 40°. Everybody was cold.
- 53:31So Charlie, I agree with you and I'm glad you brought that up.
- 53:36You know, weather is everything. And here's why weather is
- 53:40everything because the fans get so damn mean that if it rains
- 53:46out, the fans are like, NASCAR made it rain.
- 53:49I hate NASCAR. It's like what?
- 53:53What? So yes, you're right, NASCAR
- 53:57needed that good weather at Bowman Gray and got great
- 54:00ratings for that. Got great ratings.
- 54:03So yeah, but but once again, that Dale Junior effect did did
- 54:08Dale Junior did that? Because when I go on the Kyle
- 54:11Petty Charity ride, you know, all the old fans saying to me,
- 54:15we're on this ride because we love Richard Petty and Kyle
- 54:18Petty. They don't hate NASCAR.
- 54:21You know what they say? We just don't watch it anymore
- 54:24because they're sad. These are 6575 year old people.
- 54:29They're sad that their guys are gone.
- 54:31You know, Rusty's gone, Jeff Gordon's gone.
- 54:34Because see, Dale on our senior, he introduced Jeff Gordon.
- 54:38So Gordon was part of the old group, you know what I mean?
- 54:41So I just really think that Dale Junior simply being a car owner
- 54:49and being so happy, but you know, they they did not know
- 54:54NASCAR did not know that Dale Junior was going to be on TV
- 54:58after Justin Agar made that race.
- 55:02So I'm going to go 5050 on this Charlie.
- 55:05I'm going to say I'm going to say that it didn't hurt having
- 55:10Dale Junior as a car owner. But where Dale Junior really
- 55:13showed up was after the race. Remember live on Channel 2 like
- 55:18rabbit ears that that wasn't? Was that on FS1 or was that on
- 55:23Channel 2? FS1 had the broadcast.
- 55:27OK, so still a lot of people got FS1, but my point is Charlie
- 55:32Dale Junior showed up after the race, after the whole night,
- 55:37right? I mean after that race, the
- 55:39first duel. So it's not like people are
- 55:42tuning in to see Dale Junior. They had to watch the race and
- 55:45they saw him afterwards. You know, that's kind of my,
- 55:49it's kind of my point. So he didn't hurt, but I don't
- 55:53think it was all Dale Junior. He didn't hurt.
- 55:56It did not hurt, but I don't think it was all Dale Junior.
- 56:00Yeah, I think and and you're talking about watching on the
- 56:03broadcast, but I feel like the storyline afterwards, cuz you
- 56:06know, the duels for example, Bubba wins the first one, OK.
- 56:10The second one, you had the controversy with Eric Jones.
- 56:12We already talked about that, but when you talk about just the
- 56:16the storytelling afterwards, that's where Dale Junior steals
- 56:20the show and the hugs with all Geyer and his great quote about
- 56:24his dad. That's where still Dale Junior
- 56:27still he's still running this sport.
- 56:29I know we're biased because we're partners with Dirty MO
- 56:32Media, but he also is able to, you know, through the Florence
- 56:36race back in whenever it was late fall to when they unveiled
- 56:40the Chris Stapleton car with the traveller whiskey, right?
- 56:44The fact that even the qualifying, I mean, it was
- 56:47probably good for NASCAR that all Geyer didn't qualify in on
- 56:50Wednesday because it gave people a huge reason to watch on the
- 56:54duels when they did get in. And let me say this, I just
- 57:00really feel this way. I got to get this out of my
- 57:01head. Bubba Wallace winning the twin
- 57:06150. See, there's so many people that
- 57:08don't like Bubba Wallace and and we all know why.
- 57:12But anyway, him winning Bubba Wallace winning makes people
- 57:17TuneIn because they're mad at him.
- 57:18They don't like him. See, it's, it's it's like social
- 57:21media. If you don't like me, why are
- 57:23you following me? See, when people don't like
- 57:26somebody, Charlie, they TuneIn. It's weird phenomenon.
- 57:30It's like Howard. Stern back in the day.
- 57:32Right, I don't like Denny Hamlin.
- 57:34I'm going to tune into this race hopefully wrecks out.
- 57:39It's it it's psychological one-on-one, right.
- 57:42OK, now I just wanted to say let's not gloss over bubble
- 57:46winning the first race because that you know that people don't
- 57:50like him. Now, Dale Junior, what I like
- 57:54what you said is Dale Junior comes across as his country old
- 57:58boy talks like this and everything, smart as a whip.
- 58:03His father, Dale Senior, sent him to military school.
- 58:07Dale Junior is so smart. You're right, somebody said
- 58:12after the race in the Media Center, they said, Dale Junior,
- 58:16how can you come back half year after this track kills your
- 58:19father? And Oh my God, that whole deal
- 58:24made the sport go through the roof because Dale Junior said,
- 58:28this track did not kill my father.
- 58:30And, and, and Dale Junior said, I find peace coming here.
- 58:35It makes me I want to be where my dad got killed.
- 58:37I want to be at the track that my dad loved.
- 58:41He said, I I'm at peace with Daytona Speedway.
- 58:44And if you remember, after senior got killed in the wreck,
- 58:48Junior came back and won. And remember that Pepsi July
- 58:50race with Mikey Waltrip? So many people wanted to hear
- 58:54that Junior, why do you like Daytona when it killed your
- 58:58daddy? And he answered it beautifully.
- 59:01What a great sound bite. I mean, I can't believe that our
- 59:05local station, Channel 2, I can't believe all.
- 59:08I mean that that's a human. That's a human drama quote.
- 59:13This Daytona killed my dad. But I find peace coming here
- 59:18'cause my dad, Dale Senior love this racetrack.
- 59:22And he said, and Dale Junior said, I know a lot of people
- 59:25don't grieve like that. Dale Junior's like usually
- 59:28wherever your loved one gets killed, you don't ever go there.
- 59:31Dale Junior's like, Nope, I'm going there because that's where
- 59:34my dad was and he loved Daytona. So Charlie, I agree with you.
- 59:39The Dale Junior effect in the media, everybody knows this.
- 59:43And Dale Junior's awesome. He's he's playing right along
- 59:46with it, you know? Yes, we.
- 59:49Yeah. One world.
- 59:50Go ahead, Charlie. Read that.
- 59:51One world, one goal he he mimics your takes as that whole comment
- 59:55by June June Bug with Kelly sitting right there was a
- 59:58lovely, eloquent, heartfelt comment.
- 1:00:01Yeah, and and you know, one world, one goal, that's your
- 1:00:05call letters if you are a NASCAR fan, that you don't like NASCAR.
- 1:00:10Cuzdell senior got killed. Here's your opening to love it
- 1:00:13again because his son loves it. You, you know that if Dale
- 1:00:19Senior could talk from heaven right now, he'd say, come on,
- 1:00:23everybody, I love NASCAR. I was going for it.
- 1:00:26You know, I was trying to, you know, it was a bad, bad wreck.
- 1:00:30It was a bad situation. The wreck wasn't the problem.
- 1:00:33It was the angle. And we didn't, I feel my hand on
- 1:00:37the Bible right now. If we would have had those damn
- 1:00:40soft walls, whatever walls you want to call them, I think Dale
- 1:00:44Dale Senior would be living today.
- 1:00:46But but Dale senior did not die in vain because of his death.
- 1:00:51We've saved all these lives that safer barriers what they call
- 1:00:55it. I call it a softball because
- 1:00:57when you hit it, it's way softer.
- 1:01:00If that softball would have been there, Dale senior be living at
- 1:01:03this day. So yes, I agree, Charlie.
- 1:01:07Yes. And I think people should
- 1:01:09forgive NASCAR because, you know, Dale Junior has and he
- 1:01:16told you all. Yeah, that wreck.
- 1:01:19Let me see here. Hold on.
- 1:01:20We're switching gears, everybody.
- 1:01:23This is at the end of the race. Oh, man, they just wrecked.
- 1:01:26I think it was the white flag. Somebody turn somebody.
- 1:01:30Elio's having a bad Elio. Elio Castroneves is going to be
- 1:01:35like, Get Me Out of Daytona. He has wrecked everything.
- 1:01:38He he wrecked every time. And I feel back as I love Elio
- 1:01:42and I'm not picking on Elio because of my brother Mike.
- 1:01:45Let's get that straight. All I'm saying is when you
- 1:01:49haven't done something and you go to do it and you wreck
- 1:01:52everything, you know, Elio has wrecked everything he's been in.
- 1:01:55Not his fault. Great driver, I love him, great
- 1:01:59dancer. But I'm sure Ellie is going to
- 1:02:02be like tag in the back of the Daytona 500.
- 1:02:06He don't he don't want to wreck in the Daytona 500.
- 1:02:09He's already he he destroyed the ARCA car, he destroyed the Cup
- 1:02:13car and I'll put a front end on ass in on.
- 1:02:17So Elio is probably like Get Me Out of Daytona.
- 1:02:22And here's the worst part. This blew my mind when I heard
- 1:02:27it. Do you know since Elio took the
- 1:02:30worldwide provisional they aren't allowed for any money?
- 1:02:34Yeah. Elio could win the Daytona 500
- 1:02:38and he gets no money because he's because that's that's the
- 1:02:42deal. They said we'll give you the
- 1:02:44provisional. If you use it, you don't get any
- 1:02:47money. I hope Justin Marks and
- 1:02:50everybody at track house got some money because buddy, they
- 1:02:53are spending it and I don't know if it went the way they thought
- 1:02:57it would. Charlie, I think it's it's
- 1:03:00working opposite, I think I think Elio taking the
- 1:03:04provisional is actually pissed fans off and here's why.
- 1:03:08And drivers Oh that's you took the word.
- 1:03:11Tell me what the driver said, Charlie.
- 1:03:14Well, it was what I mean, Martin Truex.
- 1:03:16I think of the guys who were the most vocal was Truax.
- 1:03:19And obviously Truax gets in in qualifying, but he was the one.
- 1:03:22Didn't he say it was something? Was it, Was it slap in the face?
- 1:03:24Something like that? He said it was a slap in the
- 1:03:26face. Elio, you're right, Martin Truax
- 1:03:30was very bitter. He said this is a slap in the
- 1:03:33face of Jimmie Johnson, seven time NASCAR champion, and he
- 1:03:36don't get a provisional but a guy that was a world classer and
- 1:03:40that's what these drivers said. My point of view is this.
- 1:03:43I don't think, see, two months ago I was on this show and I
- 1:03:48said it don't bother me and it still don't bother me.
- 1:03:51But we thought that Elio coming in was going to put eyes on the
- 1:03:55sport. I think it's done the opposite.
- 1:03:58I think it's kind of pissed some people off.
- 1:04:01Yeah. So I love Elio.
- 1:04:04Love him. He's very nice to me.
- 1:04:06I raced with him in the SRX series.
- 1:04:11Great guy. He can't help it, but boy it is.
- 1:04:16He finished fifth, but he destroyed that damn car.
- 1:04:19Well, all right, Charlie. And we're so we we're doing all
- 1:04:24good stuff. Everyone's watching the Dale
- 1:04:27Junior effect. The races have been side by
- 1:04:31side. We talked about the Parker
- 1:04:34Kliegerman was just he was low. Charlie.
- 1:04:37I I think that's everything, buddy.
- 1:04:39And we're at one hour. Yeah, Yep, I'm with you.
- 1:04:41I was just going to say anything else because we're at 65
- 1:04:45minutes. It's been great.
- 1:04:46We've had what, 3800 people total watching?
- 1:04:50We got almost 500 watching right now.
- 1:04:52And thank you to Jags also. And then when we're done,
- 1:04:55obviously this year is YouTube, but when we're done, let's see
- 1:04:58how he's missing. Boom.
- 1:04:59Yeah, right there. When we're done, I will quickly
- 1:05:02edit this and I'll put it on podcast for people as well.
- 1:05:05Yeah, and and remember, everybody just lives on YouTube.
- 1:05:09Charlie, thank you And. Thank you buddy.
- 1:05:12I just want to say this, everybody.
- 1:05:14We thought we would do this because there was so much news,
- 1:05:17right? Yeah, me and Charlie talked.
- 1:05:20We said we better get this off our mind right now because
- 1:05:24tomorrow's the big one. You know, the Daytona 500, hard
