- 0:00Speaker 1: Here we are last break of the day. We want
- 0:02Speaker 1: to say thank you Steve Harvey Nation for listening every day.
- 0:06Speaker 1: We appreciate your business so much. Thank you, Steve. You
- 0:09Speaker 1: have some closing words for us.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's a lot been going on in
- 0:16Speaker 2: our life, personally with my family. You know, we suffered
- 0:18Speaker 2: a tremendous loss recently and I just wanted to say
- 0:22Speaker 2: thank you to all the people who are sent out
- 0:25Speaker 2: their condolences and prayers for the family. It was my
- 0:31Speaker 2: father in law, James Bridge's senior who passed. It was
- 0:35Speaker 2: Marjorie's dad. Marjorie is a daddy's girl through and through
- 0:40Speaker 2: and through. I've been dreading this day and it finally
- 0:44Speaker 2: got here, and it has been rough. It has really
- 0:49Speaker 2: really been rough. But you know something, man, it was
- 0:53Speaker 2: really weird the way it happened because over two months
- 0:56Speaker 2: ago in Memphis, they had decided that they were going
- 1:00Speaker 2: to do a street dedication on the block that he changed.
- 1:04Speaker 2: He put a business on that block, remodeled his home
- 1:07Speaker 2: on that block, and everything just hired people from the neighborhood.
- 1:12Speaker 2: He has a transportation company. When he retired, he turned
- 1:15Speaker 2: it over to his son, James Bridges Junior, So over
- 1:20Speaker 2: two months ago, long before anybody knew about his passing.
- 1:25Speaker 2: They set up this day on Thursday, last Thursday, to
- 1:31Speaker 2: rename this street after him in Memphis. Little did we know,
- 1:38Speaker 2: and my wife had gone to Memphis on Monday for
- 1:44Speaker 2: the funeral of her cousin that she was really, really
- 1:47Speaker 2: close to. So she left the funeral on Monday and
- 1:50Speaker 2: went to the hospital to see her dad, and he
- 1:52Speaker 2: died that night. I can't even tell you how devastating
- 1:57Speaker 2: that was for her. But now keep in mind, now,
- 2:02Speaker 2: for two months, they've been renaming the street James Bridge's
- 2:07Speaker 2: Senior off over two months, and that was scheduled for Thursday,
- 2:13Speaker 2: so a lot of her family members were in town
- 2:15Speaker 2: for Thursday. Excuse me, a lot of people were in
- 2:20Speaker 2: town for the funeral of her cousin on Monday, so
- 2:23Speaker 2: some of them stayed. And then Marjorie's family got the
- 2:26Speaker 2: funeral arranged on the same day as the street naming
- 2:31Speaker 2: because his wife didn't want to give that away because
- 2:34Speaker 2: she thought her husband deserved it. I watched the strength
- 2:38Speaker 2: of a woman who has been with a man whose
- 2:43Speaker 2: next anniversary would have been July. They would have been
- 2:45Speaker 2: married sixty five years. I watched this woman say, we're
- 2:51Speaker 2: gonna do this naming for my husband and then we're
- 2:54Speaker 2: gonna do his burial funeral. He had a military burier.
- 2:58Speaker 2: He was a military man. So Marjorie was supposed to
- 3:01Speaker 2: give the welcome address, but she couldn't do it. She
- 3:04Speaker 2: wasn't She said, I really can't talk. I want my
- 3:07Speaker 2: husband to do it, and she just gave me the mic.
- 3:09Speaker 2: And so I stood there and you know what, I said, man,
- 3:12Speaker 2: because I've been a lot, I've been to a lot
- 3:14Speaker 2: of street namings. Most streets are named after famous people.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Most streets are named after athletes, most streets are named
- 3:25Speaker 2: after entertainers, and most streets are named after people who
- 3:30Speaker 2: have been in politics and have family names in politics.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And I was standing, I said, but you know what,
- 3:37Speaker 2: this is the first time I've ever been to a
- 3:40Speaker 2: street naming that they named after man just because he
- 3:43Speaker 2: was great and James Bridge's senior man, my father in
- 3:47Speaker 2: law was great. He was just great man. I cannot
- 3:50Speaker 2: tell you the things I learned about him. He reminded
- 3:54Speaker 2: me so much of my father, minus the drinking and
- 4:00Speaker 2: the cousin. If he took them two things out. That
- 4:05Speaker 2: was my father. But that was my daddy. Now, my
- 4:08Speaker 2: daddy to me was the end all. You couldn't tell
- 4:12Speaker 2: me nothing about him. Strong, dedicated, hard working family man,
- 4:17Speaker 2: fierce loyal. In all my years of growing up, I
- 4:23Speaker 2: saw my father miss one day of work. This man,
- 4:27Speaker 2: James Bridge's Senior, was the same way. This man was such,
- 4:33Speaker 2: but he's such. He was a deacon at the church.
- 4:36Speaker 2: He bought a church bus, farm, dropped people off. He
- 4:40Speaker 2: was He's a dedicated member, but he was a family member.
- 4:43Speaker 2: But this man taught me so much about faith and family.
- 4:49Speaker 2: This dude was about it. Man and James Bridge's Senior
- 4:55Speaker 2: passed three nights before they named the street after him.
- 5:02Speaker 2: And I just never met anybody that was more deserving.
- 5:06Speaker 2: James Bridge is senior in Memphis, Tennessee. Whoo bad man.
- 5:10Speaker 2: He worked in the Sheriff's Department and I would be
- 5:13Speaker 2: with him sometime. We go out to the restaurant. This
- 5:15Speaker 2: was years ago, you know. We go out to a
- 5:17Speaker 2: restaurant and be sitting there and a dude will walk
- 5:19Speaker 2: up to him and say, mister Bridges, you don't remember me,
- 5:22Speaker 2: but I wanted to thank you. He also works in
- 5:24Speaker 2: the He worked in the Correctional Department as a sheriff
- 5:28Speaker 2: and normally, man, when you run up into an old inmate,
- 5:31Speaker 2: it's gonna be a problem out on them streets because
- 5:33Speaker 2: the way they treat him. They would all hug him
- 5:37Speaker 2: and thank him for praying for them behind them bars,
- 5:40Speaker 2: for encouraging them to get out and do better. He
- 5:44Speaker 2: was that type of dude. Because I saw a couple
- 5:48Speaker 2: of inmates walk away. I know they was inmates at
- 5:50Speaker 2: the time. You can tell their little rough cut cats.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Hey man, I was locked up when you was the sheriff,
- 5:55Speaker 2: and I got a little tight because I'm you know,
- 5:57Speaker 2: I don't know what you finish, say them my father
- 5:59Speaker 2: in law, but I'm gonna handle you. If this go left.
- 6:02Speaker 2: It never went left. It just showed me so much
- 6:06Speaker 2: of who he was and the character as a person.
- 6:08Speaker 2: So I just wanted to say that today and we
- 6:10Speaker 2: will thank you all for your prayers and your condolences
- 6:14Speaker 2: for the family. It was really nice. Marjorie's trying to
- 6:17Speaker 2: hold on there. She's hanging there and keep praying for
- 6:19Speaker 2: it because grief is rough. But all of you know
- 6:21Speaker 2: what that feels like. That hadn't lost somebody that deal
- 6:24Speaker 2: that was her first parent, so it was kind of
- 6:27Speaker 2: been rough, but we appreciate y'all. I just wanted to
- 6:29Speaker 2: say down behalf of the family. So hey, y'all, talk
- 6:32Speaker 2: to God today because he would absolutely love to hear
- 6:36Speaker 2: from you, and I'm sure glad he hears from me
- 6:37Speaker 2: and I had it wasn't for God, I would this
- 6:40Speaker 2: be too hard without God. Please get your relationship with
- 6:43Speaker 2: God because you gonna need it.
