Today, let's talk about the weather. We already covered sunny and rainy, and windy and cloudy. Now let's do hot and cold. Luna: Oh perfect. It's been freezing here lately. Lucas: Well then you'll need ቀዝቃዛ — that means cold. Say it with me: ቀዝቃዛ. Luna: ቀዝቃዛ. ቀዝቃዛ. That's cold. Lucas: Exactly. And the opposite is ሞቃት — hot. Try it. Luna: ሞቃት. ሞቃት. Like summer hot. Lucas: Right. Now let's use them in sentences. 'Today is hot' is ዛሬ ሞቃት ነው. Repeat: ዛሬ ሞቃት ነው. Luna: ዛሬ ሞቃት ነው. ዛሬ ሞቃት ነው. Lucas: Good. And 'Today is cold' — ዛሬ ቀዝቃዛ ነው. Luna: ዛሬ ቀዝቃዛ ነው. That one's a mouthful. Lucas: Let's break it: ዛሬ — today, ቀዝቃዛ — cold, ነው — is. Now you try the full thing. Luna: ዛሬ ቀዝቃዛ ነው. Hey, I got it! Lucas: You did. Now let's turn it into a question. 'Is it hot?' — ሞቃት ነው? Try that. Luna: ሞቃት ነው? With rising intonation? Lucas: Yeah, exactly. And to answer yes if it's cold: አዎ፣ ቀዝቃዛ ነው. Yes, it's cold. Luna: አዎ፣ ቀዝቃዛ ነው. So I could say that when someone asks. Lucas: Right. Let's practice a mini conversation. I'll ask ዛሬ ሞቃት ነው? You answer no, it's cold. Luna: Okay. ዛሬ ሞቃት ነው? — አይደለም፣ ቀዝቃዛ ነው. Wait, I said አይደለም for no. Lucas: That works too! But we taught አዎ፣ ቀዝቃዛ ነው for yes, it's cold. For no, you can say አይደለም, ቀዝቃዛ ነው. Good thinking. Luna: Cool, so I'm getting the hang of it.
