- 0:17Speaker 1: the house. Just so people know what's going on. This
- 0:19Speaker 1: is Reeva. She's living on the Bustle US. She's here
- 0:21Speaker 1: for the whole tour. She's always working on stuff. But
- 0:24Speaker 1: you never do this show. No, Reeva's here doing this
- 0:27Speaker 1: show today. Would you like to say anything to people?
- 0:33Speaker 1: Subscribe to? Oh, Reva would like you the Reva's one
- 0:38Speaker 1: ask is you subscribe to the YouTube feed at the
- 0:42Speaker 1: Mediator podcast YouTube channel. We're so what we're doing today
- 0:46Speaker 1: is we're joined by a ticket holder. Yeah, Pablo Escobell,
- 0:49Speaker 1: you're coming to the show tonight. Yeah, yeah, you excited
- 0:52Speaker 1: for the show?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Absolutely? Yeah, definitely because it's gonna be the first time too,
- 0:56Speaker 2: So yeah, definitely.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Now I know you well. The reason I wanted to
- 1:00Speaker 1: talk about you. I know you well from coming on.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You've been on a handful of podcasts and I've listened
- 1:05Speaker 1: to your story on other podcasts The Southern Outdoorsman. Is
- 1:08Speaker 1: that what it's called? Southern outdoors podcast? Yanni sent that
- 1:11Speaker 1: to me saying, this guy's a riot and I've heard
- 1:14Speaker 1: of do you other interviews? And I thought, man, we're
- 1:16Speaker 1: down here. I want to meet you and have a
- 1:18Speaker 1: chance to talk to you and introduce you to our listeners,
- 1:22Speaker 1: to hear about some of your hunting adventures. Wow, and
- 1:25Speaker 1: kind of your strange trip towards becoming an American hunter.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely is an honor, man, I really appreciate it, definitely.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Can you before we get to Pablo, can you explain
- 1:37Speaker 3: FWOP case anybody isn't up to speed.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'd be happy to what it means? Is
- 1:42Speaker 1: this a lot of times we have this problem, I'm
- 1:45Speaker 1: addressing you listeners. We have this problem where we release
- 1:50Speaker 1: shows on Mondays. So we always run into this problem
- 1:52Speaker 1: where things will prevent us from releasing our show right away.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Do you know this why it's called that? So one
- 1:59Speaker 1: day I was saying that I wanted to be able
- 2:02Speaker 1: to do to record certain shows or just flop it
- 2:07Speaker 1: comes out flop being the noise made when it just
- 2:10Speaker 1: comes out like fop am.
- 2:14Speaker 3: When I heard it, I felt like you were some
- 2:17Speaker 3: somehow going to compare the noise of it coming out
- 2:22Speaker 3: with the sound of you slapping meat, because you have
- 2:26Speaker 3: such an affinity for slapping meat. So I thought there
- 2:28Speaker 3: was some connection there.
- 2:29Speaker 1: That's yeah, flop when you slap a back hand. No,
- 2:35Speaker 1: this just means it's gonna come out. We're gonna do three.
- 2:36Speaker 1: We're gonna do three flops here on live tour. This
- 2:39Speaker 1: is day one, this is the opening show. Everyone's nervous.
- 2:41Speaker 1: We have a we're doing. I'm looking around and see
- 2:45Speaker 1: who's listening because we're doing like a blowgun thing, and
- 2:47Speaker 1: we're very scared about getting in trouble with the venues.
- 2:51Speaker 1: So we asked one venue if we could bring Clay's mule.
- 2:54Speaker 1: They said no, so we didn't ask about the blowgun stunt.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It would be fine, I know, but I don't want to.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I don't want to bring it up ahead of time.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Now you shouldn't because if you bring it up ahead
- 3:05Speaker 1: of time, it's just gonna be no.
- 3:07Speaker 3: But it's hopefully like the manager of the last venue
- 3:10Speaker 3: that we're having to won't this episode.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah, we have a pretty so we bought some blowguns
- 3:16Speaker 1: from Tim Wells and he sends them with some wooden
- 3:19Speaker 1: darts which look unassuming.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Like a puncho. I'm in a pincho, my b.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and so I'm just no one's around right now.
- 3:27Speaker 1: It's a little nervous about the blowgun situation.
- 3:29Speaker 3: What's a pincho?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Uh a Kebob, I'm sorry, yeah about pretty much, yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Bob skewer.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So uh, Pablo Escabel, you grew up in Costa Rica. Yes,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and I didn't know this until today. You grew up
- 3:45Speaker 1: in Costa Rica and you were engaged in like hunting
- 3:48Speaker 1: activities in Costa Rica or you you experimented, you dam yes,
- 3:53Speaker 1: experiment Tell about that a little bit. I didn't know
- 3:55Speaker 1: about you.
- 3:56Speaker 2: So the thing is when I was down there, man,
- 3:58Speaker 2: you know, hunting is legal down there, and yes it
- 4:01Speaker 2: is legal. Any kind of species is illegal.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Well you're saying illegal, like not legal.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Not legal? God eat ilegal. Yeah. So you know, as kids, man,
- 4:14Speaker 2: you developed your interest for sling shots, blowguns and things
- 4:17Speaker 2: like that because you have resources all over the place.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And then you know, you start kind of like getting
- 4:23Speaker 2: a little bit more curious, like I'm wondering if I
- 4:25Speaker 2: can take that bird down with this rock and next
- 4:28Speaker 2: thing you know, you start becoming efficient. And so yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 2: it was it was hunting with a sling shot and blowguns.
- 4:35Speaker 2: We used to go to the well the blowgun man.
- 4:38Speaker 2: It wasn't your particular blog, and it was just like
- 4:40Speaker 2: we used to go to the hardware store, the only store,
- 4:43Speaker 2: and they had like courting rods, like aluminum rod about
- 4:47Speaker 2: half an inch about a meter long, which is like
- 4:50Speaker 2: three feet three and a half. And then we used
- 4:52Speaker 2: to go to the river to the creek areas and
- 4:54Speaker 2: just dig some clay because it's clay everywhere, or keep
- 4:57Speaker 2: them in out like in a plastic bag in your pack,
- 5:00Speaker 2: a little bit of moist into it, keep whatting there
- 5:03Speaker 2: the clay so it stays nice and moist, it doesn't
- 5:06Speaker 2: dry right away. And man, I guess it became like
- 5:08Speaker 2: a muscle memory because you were just kind of like
- 5:10Speaker 2: doing your pellets with your fingers all the time and
- 5:12Speaker 2: keeping pellets in there, so the pellets were getting mush.
- 5:15Speaker 2: But then you just pull it back up and round
- 5:17Speaker 2: the back up, put it in there and just keep shooting.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Shooting soft clay. Yeah, but what were you hunting with
- 5:23Speaker 1: the soft clay? Birds that would have enough too oh, man,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you'd be amazed being soft. We didn't know anything about ballistics.
- 5:33Speaker 1: But I guess when they hid and they kind of
- 5:36Speaker 1: mush from I mean, we're talking about birds about this
- 5:38Speaker 1: big Oh, they don't understand the chance of twenty yards
- 5:41Speaker 1: like they coming down, you know. So would you ever
- 5:44Speaker 1: get any kind of furred animals like, I don't know
- 5:46Speaker 1: what they got in coast through Well, the guys that
- 5:48Speaker 1: they got like they got to have like uh labba paca.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Do you know pisoti. No, it's like a like a
- 5:59Speaker 2: coon with an elongated nose.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we call him.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I forgot that money. Yes, Okay, there's some There's another
- 6:07Speaker 2: one is uh Watusa and te squinty. Those are like
- 6:10Speaker 2: a small cappy bar as as a reference, right, and
- 6:15Speaker 2: those used to be with the sling shots. But that
- 6:17Speaker 2: was not a one man job. Man. It used to
- 6:19Speaker 2: be like trying to put a snake upon him. You know,
- 6:22Speaker 2: three or four guys and everybody's gonna aim at the
- 6:24Speaker 2: same time, and somebody's gonna hit it. Somebody's gonna hit it. Good. Well,
- 6:28Speaker 2: you gotta aim with a rug right of the head,
- 6:31Speaker 2: So somebody's gonna hit him. We's gonna stung him, and
- 6:33Speaker 2: then we're gonna run to him and get him and
- 6:36Speaker 2: finish what we started. Yeah. So and you know and
- 6:40Speaker 2: unfortunately maybe one out of fifteen, one out of twenty
- 6:47Speaker 2: hounds worth successful. Okay, it's incredible.
- 6:49Speaker 1: And you're just going out in the jungle.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, rightther on the fields because you know, I grew
- 6:53Speaker 2: up in a place with a perfect balance in between
- 6:56Speaker 2: country and a teeny tiny city or teen tight in town.
- 7:01Speaker 2: You know, like there was a hospital in there, hardware store.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Of course, as the years went on and on, everything
- 7:07Speaker 2: started developing, but at the time when I was seven,
- 7:12Speaker 2: that was it. And the funniest thing, well the best
- 7:14Speaker 2: thing ever is that nobody had the internet. Nobody had
- 7:18Speaker 2: cell phones. Like we used to just go and knock
- 7:20Speaker 2: on somebody's door, trying to round everybody up because we're
- 7:23Speaker 2: going to go to the river later on, and everybody
- 7:26Speaker 2: will wait on the corner.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Like round up your hunting party.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah, or whoever wants to go. Which it was nothing
- 7:32Speaker 2: but kids, would you guys fish? Yes? A lot? And
- 7:37Speaker 2: I mean I look at this core. We used to
- 7:39Speaker 2: go to the hardware store and we were like, we
- 7:41Speaker 2: need some fishing line, man, and you will get lined
- 7:44Speaker 2: like for one thousand pounds morning just to go right
- 7:48Speaker 2: there to the creek to get brams by this big
- 7:51Speaker 2: you know.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Because you just didn't have access to sporting goods stuff.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Now, they didn't have a rod, they didn't have nothing.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And we used to just like do you do you know,
- 7:59Speaker 2: are you familiar with the cuban? Yo? Yo? It's kind
- 8:02Speaker 2: of like a got one of those. It's kind of
- 8:04Speaker 2: like we used to have bottles, plastic bottles, and you
- 8:07Speaker 2: just kind of wrap your line around then long.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Would you guys cast off those two? I've seen dudes
- 8:12Speaker 1: down yeah, like down in South America cast with a bottle.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah, Usually you cast towards the bottleneck like the end
- 8:19Speaker 2: of the bottle is going to be your stop. So
- 8:21Speaker 2: you cast. When you cast, kind of like tours.
- 8:23Speaker 1: You're holding you're holding the bottom of the bottle.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Pretty much like this. You will cast like that so
- 8:28Speaker 2: the line will go that way, you know. And we
- 8:33Speaker 2: had a lot of fun, man, a lot of fun.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Uh would you guys, would you guys bring the stuff
- 8:39Speaker 1: home and your mom and daddy cook it?
- 8:42Speaker 2: I did, I brought everything home. My mama used to
- 8:45Speaker 2: get so mad because you know, we didn't have much,
- 8:50Speaker 2: and the few things that she had, I was always
- 8:53Speaker 2: bringing everything into it. So she was like, this is
- 8:55Speaker 2: your pen that you ain't gonna cook anything else these attendsils,
- 9:00Speaker 2: this is going to be your pain. So I was
- 9:03Speaker 2: like okay, and I had the pen, and I used
- 9:05Speaker 2: to cook all kinds of birds and some of them mammals.
- 9:09Speaker 2: When we used to get Lucky cook him in there,
- 9:11Speaker 2: or go to a friend's house and they had like
- 9:13Speaker 2: a bigger pant so we could put a bunch of
- 9:15Speaker 2: pig lord on it and just defried them. Oh my goodness, man. Yeah,
- 9:20Speaker 2: it was good times, really really really good times. Of course,
- 9:27Speaker 2: how can I say this? It was a different time
- 9:30Speaker 2: runs as you know, everything else that is around us
- 9:36Speaker 2: has been evolved in the culture has maintained itself, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 2: and now unfortunately these days the loss is still the same.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And one of the things that I don't like is
- 9:44Speaker 2: that we just enjoyed the outdoors man like we did,
- 9:49Speaker 2: and the thrill of the chase, and you know, like
- 9:52Speaker 2: that was it. It was not just killed for killed now,
- 9:54Speaker 2: it was the thrill of the chase and then eating it.
- 9:57Speaker 2: But unfortunately we were caught up many times and I'm
- 10:01Speaker 2: telling you caught me. Oh yeah. Back in those days,
- 10:04Speaker 2: anybody was allowed to give you a whooping, regardless where
- 10:07Speaker 2: you were. If it was somebody that you know, Now
- 10:08Speaker 2: you're doing something wrong, somebody's gonna whoop you, you know.
- 10:11Speaker 2: And it happened like that many many times because they
- 10:14Speaker 2: grew up with them.
- 10:15Speaker 1: You get caught and get whooped by someone, but not
- 10:17Speaker 1: a cop.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Now, no, the cops that only have batoons, they didn't
- 10:20Speaker 2: really care, you know, But anybody else were like, what
- 10:23Speaker 2: are y'all doing killing birds? I don't know, but just
- 10:25Speaker 2: whoop you, man. And it was like we got to
- 10:27Speaker 2: regroup and stay out of this place pretty much. And unfortunately, man,
- 10:36Speaker 2: people grow up with the mentality that the honor is
- 10:38Speaker 2: the uneducated, the honor is the ignorant, the honter is
- 10:41Speaker 2: the savage.
- 10:42Speaker 1: You know. That's a sentiment in Costa Rica pretty.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Much, you know, and I truely respect it. Like I said,
- 10:48Speaker 2: the police is beautiful, man, don't get me wrong. And
- 10:50Speaker 2: he's a fisherman's paradise.
- 10:51Speaker 1: You can't spearfish, can't hunt, can't spar and so so
- 10:57Speaker 1: this is where you I bet you love has changed
- 11:01Speaker 1: throughout the years and of course, with social media and
- 11:04Speaker 1: I was a lot easier to access everything else.
- 11:06Speaker 2: But when I was down there, man, I never heard
- 11:09Speaker 2: anything like such about like fishing restrictions or regulations or
- 11:14Speaker 2: never like if you can catch a thousand of snappers,
- 11:17Speaker 2: catch them. You know that was back then, But we're
- 11:21Speaker 2: talking about like twenty years ago, right, so now these days,
- 11:24Speaker 2: I bet you they do have different regulations and things
- 11:29Speaker 2: of that nature back on place.
- 11:30Speaker 1: So how is it that your mom came to the US.
- 11:34Speaker 2: She get married with my stepdad, right, my stepdad Rick,
- 11:39Speaker 2: she get married with Let me take a sip of water,
- 11:41Speaker 2: because this is going to be a long story.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Well keep it short. We've got a lot of ground
- 11:45Speaker 1: to cover. We haven't even gotten the deer hunt yet.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, she gets married with Rick. She said. I. Well,
- 11:54Speaker 2: here's the thing. I didn't even know they were faxing
- 11:57Speaker 2: get married. My mom was kind of dating Rig. Rig
- 11:59Speaker 2: was kind of like going back and forth because of
- 12:01Speaker 2: raking all that stuff from America. Yeah right, he born
- 12:04Speaker 2: and raised in Alabama. So I didn't know English at all, nothing,
- 12:09Speaker 2: Like I was just like, hey, I was a teenager.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Then suddenly she's like, ayes on, we're gonna get married.
- 12:15Speaker 2: I'm going to the States, I said, cool, how are
- 12:18Speaker 2: you man? When she left, I was between fourteen and fifteen,
- 12:24Speaker 2: what I was about to be fifteen? My grandmother she
- 12:27Speaker 2: was going to be on charge with me. But OK,
- 12:29Speaker 2: but my grandma used to live on the other side
- 12:31Speaker 2: of town, which I called town, you know what I mean.
- 12:35Speaker 2: So on the bright side, I was the only teenager
- 12:38Speaker 2: without adult supervision, you know. I was like, let's go.
- 12:43Speaker 1: But once she took off, what were you doing for money?
- 12:46Speaker 1: How did you support well?
- 12:48Speaker 2: She said, did you stay in school, don't get in trouble,
- 12:51Speaker 2: and we pay the bills, which the bills was the water, electricity,
- 12:55Speaker 2: and food.
- 12:56Speaker 1: So she split, Yeah, but you didn't view it that way.
- 13:00Speaker 2: No, I just thought about like, I'm a man, dude.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Two weeks after my mama left, I felt it and
- 13:07Speaker 2: that's when I realized, man, I was miasing my mom
- 13:09Speaker 2: so bad. She was like, son, we have a process,
- 13:13Speaker 2: like we got you in a process. Oh, like in
- 13:17Speaker 2: the reason, I don't know. I got to ask her.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I don't remember why I didn't qualify as a dependent
- 13:22Speaker 2: right away. I want to say, because I was about
- 13:23Speaker 2: thirteen or fourteen. It's kind of like an immigration thing. Well,
- 13:30Speaker 2: the years go on and she keeps saying like, well,
- 13:32Speaker 2: we got to notice the documents have moved to a
- 13:35Speaker 2: different office and all that stuff. Man. To be honest,
- 13:38Speaker 2: I thought that it was never going to happen. So
- 13:40Speaker 2: I just kept on with my life. Got done with
- 13:41Speaker 2: high school. Then I went to a community college and
- 13:45Speaker 2: I took sport fishing. That's what I wanted to do.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I wanted to eventually become a captain of a sport
- 13:51Speaker 2: fishing vessel.
- 13:51Speaker 1: You studied sport fishing, yeah, we said study.
- 13:54Speaker 2: It was about like six months of classroom theory, learning
- 13:59Speaker 2: about species and how to rig lines and things like that.
- 14:04Speaker 2: And then after that it was not in my fision
- 14:07Speaker 2: fishing fishing every single day and the wash man. It
- 14:09Speaker 2: was the greatest time ever, you know, even if we
- 14:13Speaker 2: didn't caut anything, it was it was the greatest. Well,
- 14:16Speaker 2: so as I'm going, man, think about this, I'm twenty one,
- 14:20Speaker 2: fiction be twenty two or I was twenty two, got
- 14:24Speaker 2: a life, the whole thing, you know, got the house
- 14:28Speaker 2: and pursuing a career. Friends, you know, childhood friends and
- 14:32Speaker 2: all that stuff. So only mom calls Mom used to
- 14:35Speaker 2: go every Christmas, you know, so only she calls. She says, son,
- 14:41Speaker 2: we got an appointment at the US Embassy, And I said, whatever,
- 14:47Speaker 2: like there's been so many years now, like we're probably
- 14:50Speaker 2: just gonna go in there, somebody's gonna read a paper
- 14:52Speaker 2: something like that, and then they're gonna say the documents
- 14:54Speaker 2: have moved to that office. Whatever. That's what I thought.
- 14:56Speaker 2: I said, We're just gonna be a quick ending. Now.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Little did I know. Three days later I was living
- 15:05Speaker 2: everything everything behind me. Jump through in a plane, which
- 15:11Speaker 2: I've never done before. No, didn't know the culture, didn't
- 15:18Speaker 2: know the language, have nobody, no land where Well we
- 15:22Speaker 2: jump Becausta Rica. We landed in Houston, but I was
- 15:25Speaker 2: with my mom because I was losing my mind when
- 15:29Speaker 2: I went. We landed in Houston Airport. I never seen
- 15:31Speaker 2: anything like that before in my life, man, so I
- 15:33Speaker 2: was just mind blowing. We landed in Houston, went through
- 15:38Speaker 2: the immigration office right there. The lady was asking me
- 15:40Speaker 2: all kind of questions. I was just like, yes, I
- 15:43Speaker 2: have no clue what she was asking because I didn't
- 15:45Speaker 2: speak English. Came in. We flew from Houston to Huntsville,
- 15:51Speaker 2: landed in Haunts full Then you know the idea that
- 15:53Speaker 2: you get from the States is like big cities, all
- 15:56Speaker 2: these big, big cities, and I'm looking out, don't see
- 16:00Speaker 2: nothing on the plane, you know, nothing feels like fields.
- 16:04Speaker 2: And I said, where's the city? She said what city?
- 16:08Speaker 2: I was like, the big the old building cities. She's like,
- 16:12Speaker 2: I was so, well, do you remember where you at?
- 16:15Speaker 2: And I said, yeah, Alabama. She said yeah, there's no
- 16:19Speaker 2: big cities in Alabama. And I was just looking down, like,
- 16:22Speaker 2: oh my god, what I got myself into.
- 16:25Speaker 3: But you were excited and moving forward because so you're
- 16:29Speaker 3: going to be with your mom.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Absolutely, that was the main thing. Well, we landed, made
- 16:33Speaker 2: at home. Next day home I got.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I got back up on one kind of what he said,
- 16:40Speaker 1: what was the main selling point to come to America?
- 16:46Speaker 2: But there's no selling point. It was pretty much like
- 16:48Speaker 2: a self explanatory thing. It's like, I'm gonna be with
- 16:51Speaker 2: my mom.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you know, it's just so you viewed it
- 16:54Speaker 1: like primarily a way to be reunited with your mom.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yeah, with my mom and my little brother, you know,
- 16:59Speaker 2: because I have a little brother. Oh he was here, Yes,
- 17:02Speaker 2: he was here now. So I was like, it's this
- 17:06Speaker 2: is meant to be like this and whatever else is
- 17:10Speaker 2: up there for me. It's going to be there regardless.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Then we landed. Next day, wake up. First morning on
- 17:17Speaker 2: the stage is September. So I'm out there looking man like,
- 17:21Speaker 2: losing my mind on Rick's property we'll call it the farm.
- 17:25Speaker 2: And my mom, she said, and I'm gonna mention this
- 17:29Speaker 2: to you. They fixed some chocolate gravy biscuits and I
- 17:33Speaker 2: was like, this is the greatest day ever in my life.
- 17:36Speaker 2: And I mean I'm dunking them puppies in that gravy, man,
- 17:40Speaker 2: you know, just going out because I never tried it before.
- 17:43Speaker 2: First breakfast excellent. Then Mama says, ah, we got to talk.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Rick has to talk to you. She was translated because
- 17:51Speaker 2: Rick didn't speak Spanish and I didn't speak English, so
- 17:54Speaker 2: she was translated between us.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And Rick said, ah, boy, no, it's you a good guy.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he is. Yeah, it's pretty much the backbone
- 18:04Speaker 2: of everything that I have accomplished. To be honest, he said,
- 18:08Speaker 2: a boy, we got to put some rules and things
- 18:13Speaker 2: that you got accomplished. And I said so. He says,
- 18:16Speaker 2: you got ninety days kind of like on the order
- 18:20Speaker 2: to get a job, get a vehicle, learn angry, learn
- 18:24Speaker 2: learn some English. Get a driver license and find an apartment. Now,
- 18:29Speaker 2: I just kind of lie for my mom, you know,
- 18:31Speaker 2: and she looked at me and she's like, he's serious,
- 18:35Speaker 2: Like you got ninety days to make that happen. And
- 18:38Speaker 2: I was like, well, crap, you know, I waited all
- 18:41Speaker 2: these years and now here we are. I didn't realize
- 18:44Speaker 2: I was in a courtroom, you know, like now I
- 18:46Speaker 2: got ninety days to make this happen. Man, All day
- 18:52Speaker 2: long that day, I just couldn't stop thinking like what
- 18:55Speaker 2: am I going to do? Like literally, what am I
- 18:57Speaker 2: going to do? Go in in that night to a
- 19:01Speaker 2: Mexican restaurant. I never been before in a Mexican restaurant.
- 19:04Speaker 2: We go in there and I was so pumped, and
- 19:06Speaker 2: on my way back home it click. I said, Man,
- 19:11Speaker 2: these people speak Spanish, then they speak English. This is it.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I didn't even have to wait to ride around. So
- 19:17Speaker 2: I called my mom and said, Mom, can you take
- 19:18Speaker 2: me to the spot I really want to go and
- 19:20Speaker 2: ask for She said, we dropped to it. Want to
- 19:24Speaker 2: wear to the Mexican restaurant?
- 19:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:26Speaker 2: We went back next day next morning, so I looked
- 19:29Speaker 2: for the manager and I said, man, I introduced myself
- 19:32Speaker 2: and I said, man, I really need a job. I
- 19:36Speaker 2: will do this is I cleaned the floors like you
- 19:38Speaker 2: tell me, But I need a job. Keyword I do
- 19:42Speaker 2: not to speak English. He said, okay, cool man, I
- 19:45Speaker 2: really like that attitude. I'm gonna teach you how to
- 19:47Speaker 2: wait tables. I was like, Doe, I just told you
- 19:52Speaker 2: I don't speak English. He's like, don't worry. I'm gonna
- 19:55Speaker 2: put you with this girl. She's gonna teach you and
- 19:58Speaker 2: don't worry about it. Little did I know? That day
- 20:02Speaker 2: I was standing in front of my wife.
- 20:04Speaker 1: What right, that's who you're married too.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the lady. And it was like the Billy
- 20:10Speaker 2: Madison movie with the child board and all that stuff.
- 20:13Speaker 2: That's pretty much. But she was teaching me how to
- 20:16Speaker 2: do everything. Huh and well I started getting good at it,
- 20:21Speaker 2: and I said, honey, really like you. Would you like
- 20:25Speaker 2: to be my girlfriend? She said, my dad doesn't let
- 20:27Speaker 2: me have boyfriends. I was like, what you know? I said,
- 20:31Speaker 2: who's your dad? She said, he's seated out there. I said,
- 20:35Speaker 2: I give me one second, man. I just went straight
- 20:37Speaker 2: to him and I introduced myself and I said, sir,
- 20:40Speaker 2: I really like your daughter. I would like to see
- 20:42Speaker 2: if I can get permission to today or maybe to
- 20:45Speaker 2: go on a Why was he in the restaurant He
- 20:48Speaker 2: was eating. Oh yeah, that day, the day that I asked,
- 20:51Speaker 2: he was eating on the restaurant.
- 20:52Speaker 1: So I said, you said this in Spanish.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because he's Mexican. Yeah, so I'm asking him,
- 21:02Speaker 2: can I that your daughter? And also I mean, you're
- 21:05Speaker 2: more than welcome to come with us to a movie theater,
- 21:07Speaker 2: to another restaurant, it don't matter. And the dude don't
- 21:10Speaker 2: say nothing. He just staring at me like apayable, you know.
- 21:13Speaker 2: And I'm there like it's that yes or no? Like
- 21:17Speaker 2: is this a cultural thing that I'm not aware of?
- 21:21Speaker 2: So I said, well, sir, thank you so much for
- 21:22Speaker 2: your time. And I just came back and no answer, no, none,
- 21:28Speaker 2: and and and that's the beginning of one of the
- 21:31Speaker 2: craziest ride of my life, like one of the craziest ones.
- 21:35Speaker 2: And hm hmm, Well when when did he say yes?
- 21:39Speaker 2: He never did when you're married. But yeah, but here's
- 21:42Speaker 2: the thing. I go back to her. She said, what
- 21:46Speaker 2: did he say? I said, he didn't say nothing. She said,
- 21:51Speaker 2: oh my god, I'm in trouble. So I was like, God,
- 21:53Speaker 2: the money. Well, next day she doesn't show up the
- 21:58Speaker 2: work and now I'm kind of nervous. No, second day
- 22:01Speaker 2: she doesn't, and I was like, dude, I believe third day,
- 22:05Speaker 2: and I'm just gonna put it out there because everybody
- 22:07Speaker 2: knows that like it. It's not that big of a deal,
- 22:10Speaker 2: no more. It's a personal story, but it's not a
- 22:13Speaker 2: big of a deal no more. But she comes to
- 22:16Speaker 2: work and she has a little bit of purple on
- 22:18Speaker 2: her side, and I said, what happened to you? She said, well,
- 22:21Speaker 2: my dad had a little like one too many drinks
- 22:24Speaker 2: and he kind of like hit me a little too
- 22:25Speaker 2: hard because I've been talking to you. What I said?
- 22:29Speaker 2: I said, heck no, said do you want to go
- 22:33Speaker 2: with me? She said where? And I said I don't know.
- 22:38Speaker 2: She said, yeah, dude. The only thing that I needed
- 22:41Speaker 2: was a horse and a cowboy hat to make it
- 22:45Speaker 2: look like the Western style. And we just left on
- 22:49Speaker 2: my truck that day. Oh well, at the time, I
- 22:52Speaker 2: already had the truck, but I'm still living with Rick
- 22:54Speaker 2: on Rick's house.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you stole her away. Well, she needed to.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Was eighteen, she was fixing to be nineteen, wow, And
- 23:05Speaker 2: I was twenty two. We left, and I said, uh,
- 23:11Speaker 2: I got to talk to my mom. Called my mom
- 23:14Speaker 2: and said, Mom, do you remember that girl that I
- 23:16Speaker 2: talked to you about that I like her? She said yeah,
- 23:19Speaker 2: Now she's with me. She said, Okay, what are y'all doing?
- 23:23Speaker 2: I said, well, we're running. And it was a brave pause.
- 23:29Speaker 2: She's like, in the name of Jesus, in the name
- 23:34Speaker 2: of Jesus, you stop what you at tell me right now.
- 23:37Speaker 2: And well it was a big deal. One of them
- 23:41Speaker 2: guys from the restaurant gave her dad my number, and
- 23:45Speaker 2: the news called me furious. It was, oh my god,
- 23:49Speaker 2: I'm gonna kill you. And I said, listen to chill.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I said, chill, let's speak like men, you know, let's
- 23:56Speaker 2: let's just be reasonable about this and let's just talk
- 23:59Speaker 2: like me. And I try to talk to you once
- 24:00Speaker 2: and you didn't talk to me. Let's just talk this time. Ah,
- 24:05Speaker 2: I meet you tomorrow the Walmart out there, well live
- 24:08Speaker 2: and I said, my ELA's my wife's just like, it's
- 24:13Speaker 2: not looking good and I said, no, no worries, Like
- 24:15Speaker 2: I got it. We get too, man. I pull up
- 24:18Speaker 2: to the parking lot. Then I get out of the
- 24:20Speaker 2: truck and this dude comes out running, flashing a gun,
- 24:25Speaker 2: like losing his mind. And I said listen, I said,
- 24:29Speaker 2: whoa chill. I said, listen first and foremost, let's fix him.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Call the cops. I said, put that thing up. If
- 24:34Speaker 2: you're trying to impress me, that's the wrong impression. I said,
- 24:37Speaker 2: I came here to talk to you, and you're behaving
- 24:40Speaker 2: like I don't even know how. Well, then the situation
- 24:43Speaker 2: gets weird because the dude starts crying m hm. And
- 24:47Speaker 2: I was like, well, as a dude, you just pointed
- 24:50Speaker 2: the gun at me, cussing me out. Now he's crying.
- 24:54Speaker 2: He started doing it, you know, his panic blessing and
- 24:57Speaker 2: all that stuff, and he said, I gotta give you
- 25:00Speaker 2: the blessing. I'm just kind of like, what's what's going
- 25:03Speaker 2: on with this dude? I mean, he grabs me by
- 25:05Speaker 2: my mouth and kiss me in my mouth? Her father, Yeah, yeah, dude,
- 25:14Speaker 2: I froze on time right there. And I said, hell, no, man,
- 25:19Speaker 2: that ain't no blessing, Like what's wrong with you? You know?
- 25:22Speaker 2: And and she was like no, no, I'm I'm sorry.
- 25:26Speaker 2: I don't understand, and well you're taking my little baby
- 25:30Speaker 2: and this and that, and I was like.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Well, back up, your wife views it as a blessing
- 25:37Speaker 1: or she No, she.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Was like, I never heard that he is he gay?
- 25:43Speaker 2: I hope it ain't because that they traumatized me.
- 25:47Speaker 1: So there was an unexpected maneuver on his part.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a carbal. I wasn't never respecting. I
- 25:52Speaker 2: was like, what's going on?
- 25:53Speaker 1: Your wife wasn't expecting it?
- 25:54Speaker 2: No, she was just like, well, this is this and
- 25:57Speaker 2: I was that my wife.
- 25:58Speaker 1: She was surprised by it. Yeah, and our other dudes,
- 26:01Speaker 1: you know, from our other like Latino dudes that you know,
- 26:05Speaker 1: surprised by that.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Everybody said that one no blazing. I knew everybody. Man,
- 26:10Speaker 2: Everybody's like, I do that ain't no blazing. I said,
- 26:13Speaker 2: that's mm hmm.
- 26:18Speaker 1: You think it's a show of dominant.
- 26:20Speaker 2: What kind of dominant? But I don't want to know
- 26:22Speaker 2: that dominance and what I mean, like.
- 26:25Speaker 3: I get the feeling it's important. I heard Babo's story
- 26:29Speaker 3: about the kiss. Yeah, but my my, uh, the way
- 26:33Speaker 3: I would read it would be that he sounds like
- 26:37Speaker 3: he had his own issues. Sounds like maybe he didn't
- 26:42Speaker 3: have a plan.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Like you're getting an unstable vibe off ofim.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I Yeah, and then maybe that like he was literally
- 26:51Speaker 3: overjoyed that you such a fine, young, upstanding man. Would
- 26:57Speaker 3: you know? I want to be with his daughter. And
- 26:59Speaker 3: the way that he expressed expressed himself in that moment
- 27:03Speaker 3: with a kiss.
- 27:04Speaker 2: That's why I wait to express himself. And I wish
- 27:06Speaker 2: you would have just stroked my hand.
- 27:08Speaker 1: That's really something I would have been thrown by that.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I had to go ask my wife's dad if I
- 27:14Speaker 1: could ask her to get married. He didn't do nothing
- 27:17Speaker 1: like that really, and I was like, I was like,
- 27:20Speaker 1: I didn't give a big old smooch.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Yeah. I was like, there, you just like traumatized me
- 27:26Speaker 2: for that sure, And I said, from.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Now on this, So how did the interaction end?
- 27:30Speaker 2: That was it?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Well?
- 27:31Speaker 2: He just keep saying some stuff. Man my head, he's
- 27:34Speaker 2: but how did he?
- 27:35Speaker 1: Okay, I want to, I want to. This is great,
- 27:39Speaker 1: I want to. I just want to cover a couple
- 27:41Speaker 1: more things. But I just need to understand something. What
- 27:46Speaker 1: to your knowledge now looking back on it, what is
- 27:50Speaker 1: his state of mind from brandishing a pistol to a blessing,
- 27:57Speaker 1: a Catholic blessing to a kiss.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I don't understand it.
- 28:01Speaker 1: How many seconds, how many minutes we're talking about we're
- 28:05Speaker 1: talking about five four or five minutes.
- 28:09Speaker 2: It was a blast.
- 28:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 28:11Speaker 2: The drill came out really good, I mean really quick.
- 28:14Speaker 2: He came out of that truck like if it was
- 28:15Speaker 2: a drug bust, you know, just and all.
- 28:17Speaker 1: That stuff by himself.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Yes, And then he kind of hit a breake ball.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I guess, because if you think about it in a
- 28:23Speaker 2: psychological aspect, he might have don't hit a breakball because
- 28:27Speaker 2: he wasn't impressing me. And I was telling him.
- 28:30Speaker 1: You weren't intimidated, no, you know, with some part of
- 28:34Speaker 1: you wondering if he was gonna shoot you or do
- 28:36Speaker 1: you know he wasn't gonna shoot you?
- 28:37Speaker 2: No?
- 28:37Speaker 1: I knew, man, you knew he wasn't gonn shoot Yeah.
- 28:40Speaker 2: I knew he was just bluffing. And it was just
- 28:43Speaker 2: the wrong cowboy to mess with, you know. So I
- 28:47Speaker 2: was like, man, then he hits that wall and he
- 28:50Speaker 2: realizes that, yeah, they like each other, and she's fixing
- 28:55Speaker 2: to go with him, and he starts going that and
- 28:58Speaker 2: then I guess his emotions just and crazy.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Is he a part of your life? Now?
- 29:03Speaker 2: No? No, now that I cut ties, I said, man,
- 29:10Speaker 2: because Christmas later, I was like, hey, man, I'm gonna
- 29:16Speaker 2: go back to something else. The tension stayed in there.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Sure it was tangion, especially from my part, because I
- 29:24Speaker 2: was just looking at him.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Like you weird though, like yeah, yeah, yeah, well Christmas
- 29:28Speaker 1: and he'd hit your wife, yeah.
- 29:29Speaker 2: And Christmas party comes along. He knew that I didn't
- 29:32Speaker 2: eat spies food at all, like spies spies. You don't
- 29:36Speaker 2: like spicy food, yeaheah. I ate something, but not like
- 29:38Speaker 2: fire right, okay. He fixed a plate for me and
- 29:44Speaker 2: it was dynamite with chicken. Literally, like my nose was
- 29:50Speaker 2: running ice. I mean you're talking about I was having
- 29:53Speaker 2: a bad time and he's just looking at I'm like,
- 29:56Speaker 2: how is it? Is it good? And I was like
- 29:57Speaker 2: it's delicious. I was an and I cleaned that plate
- 30:01Speaker 2: because I wasn't gonna let these men save me fumbling
- 30:05Speaker 2: right there. I was like, no, if I'm dying, I'm
- 30:08Speaker 2: dying and standing, you know. And it was a try
- 30:11Speaker 2: and she was like, don't eat that. The morning, I
- 30:13Speaker 2: said no, I'm not gonna give him the joy, you know,
- 30:17Speaker 2: when I'm finishing this. And that day I was like
- 30:21Speaker 2: this is it? Does it?
- 30:22Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 30:22Speaker 2: I said, I don't give you many many chances and
- 30:25Speaker 2: you keep coming to kind of like a trying to
- 30:27Speaker 2: sucker punch me. And I said every time that I'm
- 30:29Speaker 2: you know, pretty much like opening myself up to you.
- 30:32Speaker 2: So after that, I just decide that for my personal interest,
- 30:37Speaker 2: it was better off if I just kind of kept
- 30:39Speaker 2: my distance, not interfered with the relationship between father and daughter,
- 30:44Speaker 2: because that's none of my business, you know what I mean?
- 30:47Speaker 2: Are they close kind of yeah, that's a story for
- 30:52Speaker 2: a different time. Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Yeah, but wow, welcome to America.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Yes, and all this happened. Ninety days are up, and.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I got all this is all in the ninety days.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yes, And I was thinking, like, you're like.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I'll do you one better. I'll find a girl.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Yeah. And then at the end of the ninety days,
- 31:14Speaker 2: I had all the requirements that RIG wanted. Plus I
- 31:18Speaker 2: was moving into the apartment with my current wife, you know,
- 31:21Speaker 2: with my wife, we're moving into.
- 31:24Speaker 1: The driver's license. Yes, I was a social Security number
- 31:29Speaker 1: I had.
- 31:30Speaker 2: I had a two hour break on the restaurant. So
- 31:33Speaker 2: I had a dictionary and the driver license manual and
- 31:37Speaker 2: I was just trying to translate and make sense out
- 31:39Speaker 2: of it. I knew how to drive a vehicle kind
- 31:42Speaker 2: of but I knew that she was going to ask
- 31:46Speaker 2: me a bunch of questions. I felt the test four times,
- 31:48Speaker 2: no three, and I passed it on the fourth one
- 31:50Speaker 2: because she was like, let's do a three point maneuver.
- 31:53Speaker 2: And I was like, yes, keep driving. You didn't know
- 32:00Speaker 2: what she said, could ride and make and ride and
- 32:03Speaker 2: I was like okay, and until she was like pull over,
- 32:08Speaker 2: pull over, pulling with the wheeler of me. Then she
- 32:11Speaker 2: was like, ah, you see it on the passenger side.
- 32:13Speaker 2: And I was like, ah, I failed.
- 32:15Speaker 1: You know.
- 32:17Speaker 2: What happened? And my mom what? And I was like,
- 32:20Speaker 2: what happened? So where you failed? That's what happened. I
- 32:23Speaker 2: was like, oh, so yeah, the fourth time I got it.
- 32:26Speaker 1: So when, uh, when did you? Because because you've become
- 32:31Speaker 1: a very avid American hunter, here's when you got to America.
- 32:36Speaker 1: So we talked about growing up in Costa Rica and
- 32:39Speaker 1: you had like you you had like the drive. And
- 32:42Speaker 1: this is an interesting deal. My man was raised by
- 32:47Speaker 1: Italian immigrants. He's raised by his Italian immigrant grandparents. My
- 32:52Speaker 1: father they didn't know, there's no kind of He grew
- 32:56Speaker 1: up in the slums in the South Side of Chicago,
- 32:59Speaker 1: but he knew he don't know where it came from,
- 33:02Speaker 1: but he knew he was supposed to be a fisherman
- 33:06Speaker 1: and a hunter, and he would go fish on the
- 33:08Speaker 1: pier in Lake Michigan. He would go try to jump
- 33:10Speaker 1: on a train and ride a train out and try
- 33:12Speaker 1: to hunt rabbits along the railroad tracks outside of the city.
- 33:15Speaker 1: He was called to it, right, So you had the
- 33:19Speaker 1: calling when you came to the US. How long did
- 33:24Speaker 1: it take for you to put together that you'd landed
- 33:26Speaker 1: in like a hunting fishing paradise.
- 33:28Speaker 2: It took me a little bit because everything was a process, right,
- 33:32Speaker 2: and I was kind of like an evolving as I
- 33:35Speaker 2: was going and understanding a little bit more at the time.
- 33:38Speaker 2: And then I start seeing deer on the side of
- 33:40Speaker 2: the road being hit by a car whatever I live,
- 33:44Speaker 2: and I was like, oh my god, Well, my stepdad's
- 33:46Speaker 2: never been a hunter before.
- 33:48Speaker 1: He was a farmer.
- 33:49Speaker 2: No, he had a construction business.
- 33:51Speaker 1: He had a farmer, didn't farm.
- 33:52Speaker 2: We just called it the farmer. Yeah, the only animal.
- 33:55Speaker 2: And there was my little brother's dog. So I said, Rick,
- 34:01Speaker 2: how do you hunt? And he was like, no, man, uh,
- 34:04Speaker 2: you know, you gotta have property, you gotta have land,
- 34:07Speaker 2: and you know, and I was like, really, my mom
- 34:09Speaker 2: was kind of translating me. So they turned direct to view.
- 34:11Speaker 2: At the time, it was direct to view memory. It
- 34:13Speaker 2: was no big social media like it is right now.
- 34:16Speaker 2: I ain't know anything about anything. And well it was
- 34:19Speaker 2: this deer hunting shows from the Promised Land, you know,
- 34:23Speaker 2: the Midwest. I have no clue just watching. He was like,
- 34:29Speaker 2: this guy's got thousands of acres manages, as is anything else. Well,
- 34:34Speaker 2: there's public gun but if you go to public line,
- 34:36Speaker 2: everybody's going to be shooting out you. You don't want
- 34:38Speaker 2: to go there. And all that I remember about a
- 34:41Speaker 2: year or two went by, and I was like, man,
- 34:43Speaker 2: I really really want to, like because I brought my
- 34:46Speaker 2: sling shot with me, the frame I practicing. My little
- 34:51Speaker 2: brother had a baby gun. Then I got a baby
- 34:53Speaker 2: gun man, and I was in the middle of the
- 34:56Speaker 2: first thing that Rick told me is like, donoculate anything.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I was like, why, He's like, there's rules and regulations.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Well that was another chapter to me understanding why we
- 35:08Speaker 2: do the things that we do right here right now,
- 35:10Speaker 2: why we have laws of conservation, and why do we
- 35:13Speaker 2: follow the things that we follow, you know, which it
- 35:14Speaker 2: was a really good like mine opening bread fresh and
- 35:18Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god, these people really do
- 35:21Speaker 2: the right thing. As he kept going. I was very
- 35:27Speaker 2: interested at the time because I was just shooting pellets
- 35:31Speaker 2: and clays and things about on the backyards of targets.
- 35:34Speaker 2: You know. Well, we're doing a work on a construction business.
- 35:39Speaker 2: This gentleman pulls up and he says, man, can I
- 35:43Speaker 2: speak with the foreman? I just want to know. He
- 35:45Speaker 2: was leading some concrete on the side. Well, they asked
- 35:49Speaker 2: me if I wanted to participate on that Saturday, and
- 35:51Speaker 2: I said sure. So we go and we're pulling the
- 35:53Speaker 2: conquer and all that stuff. My step that comes by home.
- 35:56Speaker 1: You're at a job site. Yes, I was another huge
- 35:59Speaker 1: shows up to inquire about some concrete work.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Pretty much to get out to get out an estimate.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Now you got to remember I was on the Mexicans.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Take it as a side job and you jump in
- 36:09Speaker 1: on it.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I was on the Mexican restaurant about three months and
- 36:15Speaker 2: I said, you know what, I got it. I'm good.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I'm I can go through the world. I know how
- 36:19Speaker 2: to speak English and which I didn't, but I was
- 36:22Speaker 2: very confident, like I now I know what I'm doing. Well, literally,
- 36:27Speaker 2: I know. Man, I go to get a job on
- 36:28Speaker 2: construction and I'm going I'm going to a stand their
- 36:31Speaker 2: system and I'm coming from a metric system. M hm,
- 36:35Speaker 2: well back to square one. And I was like, God,
- 36:38Speaker 2: I'm mighty yards miles.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Inches the dumbest shit in the world.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Man, Everything is just backwards. So I was like, God,
- 36:47Speaker 2: I'm mighty. Anyways, I get better at it. It's been
- 36:53Speaker 2: three years. I saw it as a groundsman with no
- 36:56Speaker 2: experiencing anything, didn't understood anything. And I move up to
- 37:01Speaker 2: a concrete finisher so that they were doing that job.
- 37:04Speaker 2: My stepdad comes out. I've been watching the shows, keep
- 37:08Speaker 2: constantly watching these shows. My stepdad comes out, he said, son,
- 37:14Speaker 2: let me show you something. He's like, come over here.
- 37:17Speaker 2: So we go on the back of this property where
- 37:19Speaker 2: we pouring the concrete as mister Tony Mile's residence. Right.
- 37:23Speaker 2: We walk on the backside and there is giant one
- 37:28Speaker 2: hundred and sixty plus class bucks all over one seventies
- 37:32Speaker 2: one eighties state records, you name.
- 37:34Speaker 1: It all over on the wall.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Yeah text so yeah, shoulder mounds and a bunch of
- 37:40Speaker 2: euro mounds. So I'm losing my mind and never seen
- 37:44Speaker 2: this before. And I was like, oh my god. First
- 37:46Speaker 2: thing that came to my mind. I said, he probabably
- 37:48Speaker 2: sells them. I said, do you sell them? Mister Tony
- 37:52Speaker 2: was kind of laughing. He said no, I don't. I said,
- 37:55Speaker 2: what did you kill him? He said right up there?
- 38:00Speaker 2: And I was like, what is that? And I asked
- 38:01Speaker 2: my stepdad the name of the place. He's like, well,
- 38:03Speaker 2: that's public. I was like, oh my god, and I'm
- 38:06Speaker 2: admiring and all that stuff. Well, the country is drying up,
- 38:08Speaker 2: so I have to go back. At went back, I
- 38:12Speaker 2: got a brief talk with mister Tawny and uh Man,
- 38:17Speaker 2: I came back home and I just couldn't stop thinking
- 38:19Speaker 2: about it. I just couldn't stop thinking about it. How
- 38:22Speaker 2: magnificent these animals were, decides everything. Never seen anything like
- 38:26Speaker 2: that for my life. So as a rick, I really
- 38:32Speaker 2: want to go hunt. He said, well, first thing you
- 38:36Speaker 2: gotta do is take the Hunter Education course. And I said, ah,
- 38:41Speaker 2: So I took it online, got it done. That was
- 38:43Speaker 2: in twenty thirteen. I said, okay.
- 38:48Speaker 1: He's like, oh, well, did they have that in Spanish?
- 38:50Speaker 1: You did it in English? No?
- 38:51Speaker 2: In English? Yeah. At the time I was able to
- 38:54Speaker 2: comprehend way more than what I was able to speak,
- 38:58Speaker 2: Like I could comprehend, but I can speak anything, which
- 39:02Speaker 2: I'm still you know, fumbling here and there. But got
- 39:06Speaker 2: it done, you know, based on the pamphlet and all
- 39:09Speaker 2: that stuff. I said, Okay, so you can hunt from
- 39:11Speaker 2: this day to this day, you know, from like October
- 39:15Speaker 2: the fifteenth until January the thirty as an example. Right,
- 39:20Speaker 2: so good. I want to bowt like the guys from
- 39:23Speaker 2: the show. So they take me to a big buck store, man,
- 39:28Speaker 2: and they try to give me a right handed bowt,
- 39:30Speaker 2: but I'm left handed. So I'm growing the thing like this.
- 39:35Speaker 2: It doesn't feel good, and I'm like, no, I can't.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Eventually they found a left handed boat and the so
- 39:42Speaker 2: called technician is called another technician who is calling another
- 39:45Speaker 2: technician just to try to help me set it up,
- 39:48Speaker 2: set the peep side, and I said, I'm going home, man,
- 39:52Speaker 2: I go home to set the boat. Watch a few videos,
- 39:54Speaker 2: and I said, I I'm gonna set it up. The
- 39:57Speaker 2: first shot that smoked my forearm, I mean I'm talking
- 40:00Speaker 2: about like that, and put several shots through the siding
- 40:05Speaker 2: of the house. Uh, several hours disappear. By the grace
- 40:09Speaker 2: of God, there was no neighbors because I sent a
- 40:13Speaker 2: lot of broheads. They just said, you know, and I
- 40:18Speaker 2: got good. It's been three years. Well hold on because
- 40:21Speaker 2: this is one. It's a shame. But I went to Walmart.
- 40:26Speaker 2: It's my first day, first day ever. Man, I'm ready.
- 40:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna do an evening hunt. So I go to
- 40:33Speaker 2: Walmart and I told the lady on the hunting section,
- 40:35Speaker 2: can I get some saying deer sing, you know, because
- 40:37Speaker 2: these dudes are spraying all the time in the shows.
- 40:41Speaker 2: He said, dear saying and I said yes, and she
- 40:44Speaker 2: said dear pin. I said yes, you know, Like what.
- 40:48Speaker 3: Do I know?
- 40:49Speaker 2: She gives me a big bottle. Man, I go jump
- 40:52Speaker 2: out of the truck, and that's what these guys are doing.
- 40:56Speaker 2: And the first pump, I was like, god, money, I said,
- 41:01Speaker 2: this crap is this tout? Yeah? Yeah, but I just
- 41:04Speaker 2: go out it man yourself in that deer pa and
- 41:07Speaker 2: I'm guging.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Well.
- 41:08Speaker 2: It was diestrous. Later that I know all these dudes
- 41:12Speaker 2: are spraying with say killer man. I didn't know the difference,
- 41:15Speaker 2: you know, So that was a really rough lesson that day.
- 41:20Speaker 2: I was like, don't spread this crap on yourself. You
- 41:23Speaker 2: know what I mean, I was like, god man made
- 41:29Speaker 2: at home and I walked in. She said, how do
- 41:32Speaker 2: you get out? What is the smell? And I was like,
- 41:35Speaker 2: guess what they used? And she was like, nobody's using
- 41:38Speaker 2: that kind of crap? What's wrong with you? Anyways? You
- 41:41Speaker 2: know how to get rid of that thing? And I
- 41:46Speaker 2: was mimicking what I was watching the shows.
- 41:50Speaker 1: So how long did you hunt for? You got a
- 41:52Speaker 1: deer hold on.
- 41:53Speaker 2: It's been three years, so at this point you hunted
- 41:56Speaker 2: three long seasons, mimicking what they.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Do all bowl hunting.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Yeah on Iowa, Kansas, Illinois. Down here in Alabama, you're.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Taking those moves and you're hunting an Albanion.
- 42:08Speaker 2: I mean, it's like Halloween and I'm entering rather than
- 42:14Speaker 2: they don't run into January. Right, never saw a thing
- 42:17Speaker 2: until finally I start seeing deer poop and I was
- 42:19Speaker 2: like at the time, I had the phone and I
- 42:21Speaker 2: was like, how those deer poop looks like? And I
- 42:24Speaker 2: was like, oh my god, I'm on And I was like,
- 42:28Speaker 2: I'm getting very close and never seeing the thing. So
- 42:32Speaker 2: I said, Rick, something's gonna have to change, man, I said,
- 42:37Speaker 2: do you remember mister Tony? He said, yeah, I said,
- 42:39Speaker 2: do you know if she still lives in there? He said,
- 42:40Speaker 2: I don't know. I said, I'm going to go. I
- 42:44Speaker 2: know the concrete, so I'm going to go find them.
- 42:47Speaker 2: He said, oh man, I'll go out there and look
- 42:53Speaker 2: at the house. Found the concrete and I said, that's him.
- 42:57Speaker 2: That's the house. Doesn't seem to be nobody. And I
- 43:00Speaker 2: said two things. Something is gonna happen. I'm gonna find
- 43:03Speaker 2: Tony or I'm gonna catch around. But you know, I'm
- 43:06Speaker 2: gonna fix it. A gay shot. Knock on the front door. Nobody,
- 43:10Speaker 2: and I was like, I remember we went on the back. Now.
- 43:14Speaker 2: I was just bracing myself for the impact, you know,
- 43:16Speaker 2: because it's the South, you know how it goes. And
- 43:18Speaker 2: then if you use the stereotypes, he has an accent,
- 43:21Speaker 2: he has the tears, you know what I mean. So
- 43:25Speaker 2: I said, here we go. I went back there, knocking
- 43:27Speaker 2: the door. Miss Donna comes out. She's like, can I
- 43:30Speaker 2: help you? And I was like, hello, Hey, do you
- 43:32Speaker 2: remember me? No, No, who are you? I said, it's
- 43:38Speaker 2: mister Tony Holmes. She said he's honey. He was back
- 43:41Speaker 2: later on, so I'll be back. I just went and
- 43:45Speaker 2: sat in the party for like six hours and then
- 43:48Speaker 2: I seen his stroke pull in. I said, all right,
- 43:51Speaker 2: here we go, pull back in. Man. He recognized me.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Oh hey, buddy, coming in. I remember, man, it's been
- 43:58Speaker 2: three years. Then I started talking with Tawny and he
- 44:01Speaker 2: realized that I was a grown man with the experience
- 44:07Speaker 2: of a three year old kid on the woods and
- 44:11Speaker 2: and he said, man, we got a lot of work
- 44:15Speaker 2: to do. We're gonna start from zero. I said, I
- 44:21Speaker 2: do you know your feet? Trees? And I was like
- 44:23Speaker 2: what is that? Do you know your seasons? The road
- 44:28Speaker 2: and I was like what is the road? Man? Feeding
- 44:32Speaker 2: wise and all that stuff. I ended up getting a
- 44:33Speaker 2: book that says Alabama plants and bushes, you know, like native,
- 44:38Speaker 2: just to get a better understanding of all the different species.
- 44:40Speaker 2: He was like, Okay, this is a white oak, this
- 44:42Speaker 2: is a red oak. I had no clue. And when
- 44:45Speaker 2: you know, whenever they get full of acorns, they're fixing
- 44:47Speaker 2: the drop and I was like, what they're going to drop?
- 44:49Speaker 2: He was like acrons and I was like what is
- 44:52Speaker 2: an acorn? He was like this and I was like,
- 44:54Speaker 2: what is it? There's gonna eat it. And the process
- 44:58Speaker 2: went like that. Next year, I'm sitting on this piece
- 45:02Speaker 2: of public first time ever a deer.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Well.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I was climbing at the time. I was wearing a
- 45:11Speaker 2: steel climber by choice, because you golumb about one hundred
- 45:16Speaker 2: yards from the truck man circulations to your arms. Everything
- 45:19Speaker 2: is cut like this, everything is purple, you know what
- 45:22Speaker 2: I mean. It's so heavy and climb up and there
- 45:27Speaker 2: is a deer like I can actually see and it
- 45:32Speaker 2: has antlers. Man, So I never understood this by buck
- 45:37Speaker 2: fever Man, I thought I was having a heart attack,
- 45:41Speaker 2: Like I couldn't stop shaking. My blood pressure was up
- 45:43Speaker 2: to the roof, and I was like, oh my god,
- 45:45Speaker 2: this is it, this is it. And the thing comes
- 45:47Speaker 2: right in like textbook. I ain't no telling where I'll
- 45:51Speaker 2: send that error, man, there's no telling where that era
- 45:56Speaker 2: went to. That in takes up running and I was
- 46:02Speaker 2: like looking at the error and the deer just disappears
- 46:09Speaker 2: there he's went three years.
- 46:11Speaker 3: How old are you now?
- 46:12Speaker 2: I was like six, and I'm not gonna lie. I
- 46:20Speaker 2: cry like a kid that day because I was like,
- 46:25Speaker 2: this is what he said, like, this is what he
- 46:27Speaker 2: was like. He just came down to this moment.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Tears of joy or frustration, frustration.
- 46:33Speaker 2: And I was like, and I blew it. That guy
- 46:36Speaker 2: blew it out of the water. Well. I came home heartbroken,
- 46:41Speaker 2: told my wife I ain't never doing this again. Period.
- 46:46Speaker 1: You're done.
- 46:48Speaker 2: What happened? I said, I missed? Deer's in deer and
- 46:51Speaker 2: he had antlers and I missed. He said, well, just
- 46:55Speaker 2: try harder, and I was like, it's not that, is it?
- 46:57Speaker 1: You know?
- 46:58Speaker 2: She doesn't hunt. About three days later, I was off
- 47:04Speaker 2: the whole week. She says, so you're not going back
- 47:07Speaker 2: to the woods and I said.
- 47:08Speaker 1: No, I'm not.
- 47:08Speaker 2: I'm done with that, never ever again. She said, just
- 47:13Speaker 2: go and walk and kind of clear your mind. Now.
- 47:17Speaker 2: She left the work in about twelve twelve thirty. I said,
- 47:25Speaker 2: you know what, She's right, I'm just going to go
- 47:26Speaker 2: for a walk. So I went back to the place
- 47:29Speaker 2: where I missed. Look up and I was like about
- 47:32Speaker 2: to cry again. I was like, I'm right here, walking
- 47:35Speaker 2: about one hundred yards south, sat on the ground.
- 47:38Speaker 1: How far was that shot that you missed?
- 47:42Speaker 2: Thirteen or fourteen yards? Like he was right there? And
- 47:48Speaker 2: I had a ready sure, man, we've all been there. Man,
- 47:52Speaker 2: you don't need to be Costa Rican the miss man.
- 47:54Speaker 2: We've also missed all kinds of stuff. Oh yeah, And
- 47:58Speaker 2: I sat on the ground that that evening. I says,
- 48:01Speaker 2: screw it, I'm just going to sit here for the evening.
- 48:03Speaker 2: And I remember this like if it was yesterday. Man
- 48:07Speaker 2: had a street stumped behind me, a lug and a
- 48:10Speaker 2: previous head. I'm just pretty much in the same position
- 48:13Speaker 2: that I'm at right now, looking at it was a trail,
- 48:17Speaker 2: but I have no idea that it was a trail
- 48:19Speaker 2: that was the opening right here. So I was sitting
- 48:21Speaker 2: here with a little bit of sand and stick, just
- 48:24Speaker 2: kind of like making the time go a little bit faster.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Next thing I know, I heard some footsteps and I said,
- 48:31Speaker 2: I said, squirrel. And I look up and the same book,
- 48:35Speaker 2: the small a pointer is walking my way. So I
- 48:39Speaker 2: was like, dude, and well, I'm on panic mode. I
- 48:44Speaker 2: cannot get my release on the boat. I'm shaking so
- 48:47Speaker 2: bout I'm having a sei shure attack man. And I'm
- 48:49Speaker 2: on the ground, yes, seating, And next thing I know,
- 48:53Speaker 2: that book is right there, Man like right there just
- 48:56Speaker 2: looking at me.
- 48:56Speaker 1: But how far ten twelve again dodging around?
- 49:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Bob in his head like, what is that thing?
- 49:02Speaker 1: Man?
- 49:02Speaker 2: I don't remember seeing the peep side. I don't remember
- 49:04Speaker 2: am I just know I did this and I heard
- 49:07Speaker 2: that tump boom that thing mume kicks stakes up running
- 49:12Speaker 2: and I thought that I seen him pile up because
- 49:14Speaker 2: I seen him come like going, and I was like,
- 49:16Speaker 2: oh my god. Now panic set seen because I was like,
- 49:21Speaker 2: they're gonna find us both dead right here, like I'm
- 49:24Speaker 2: facing to have a heart attack, you know what I mean.
- 49:27Speaker 2: Settled myself down a little bit, went to the air man.
- 49:29Speaker 2: The errors covered up with blood, and I said, I
- 49:31Speaker 2: gotta get out of here now. So I got out.
- 49:35Speaker 2: Called my wife and I was like, honey, I killed him.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Instead of being supportive, She's like, are you sure like
- 49:42Speaker 2: you like you kill him like you didn't miss like
- 49:45Speaker 2: last time. And she got on my head back man,
- 49:48Speaker 2: and I was like, you know what, she She might
- 49:50Speaker 2: have been right. I could have just spooked him. I
- 49:54Speaker 2: don't even know if I hit him, man. Man, talk
- 49:58Speaker 2: about a pickle. You know. Well, at the time, I
- 50:02Speaker 2: didn't have ONIX. The only light that I have was
- 50:08Speaker 2: my cell phone. So I'm trying to find this stump.
- 50:12Speaker 2: It's already dark and I'm trying to find the stump
- 50:15Speaker 2: where I was sitting to go look for my arrow,
- 50:19Speaker 2: to try to find that.
- 50:20Speaker 1: You can't even remember where you were alone, I have
- 50:23Speaker 1: no clue.
- 50:24Speaker 2: About two hours go by, I was like, right here
- 50:28Speaker 2: there it is. The air was torching blood. I was like,
- 50:31Speaker 2: oh my god, I hit the thing. I hit him,
- 50:34Speaker 2: and man, I keep looking and look, well there was
- 50:37Speaker 2: a blood trail about this big and I just keep
- 50:39Speaker 2: walking over and never saw it. You know, I was
- 50:42Speaker 2: about to start crying again. Next thing, you know, that
- 50:44Speaker 2: buck was like maybe from here to where real was at? Yeah,
- 50:50Speaker 2: and I lost my mind dragging him out. The first
- 50:55Speaker 2: thing that they went to Tony's house. He was so pumped
- 50:59Speaker 2: about it. Man, you take the buck and showed him. Yeah,
- 51:01Speaker 2: he was like, it's nothing but a small two and
- 51:03Speaker 2: a half year old a point basket, a pointer. I
- 51:07Speaker 2: showed them mound that book. I swear to God because
- 51:11Speaker 2: it was is the first deer that I ever shot
- 51:13Speaker 2: in my life and it was a buck. So I
- 51:18Speaker 2: showed him A guy him out end of the house.
- 51:20Speaker 2: And after that, you know, the processes start getting better.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Now I'm hooked birth man, Yes, but but this is
- 51:29Speaker 2: like I don't like I was able to taste it,
- 51:31Speaker 2: you know, what I mean?
- 51:33Speaker 1: And did you just get your You got your biggest buck.
- 51:37Speaker 2: To date this year day before Christmas.
- 51:39Speaker 1: I'm public laying here. The first one I got home
- 51:42Speaker 1: day before Christmas, so you got no I'm sorry.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Day before Thanksgiving this year. The biggest book ever of
- 51:47Speaker 2: my life happened in Halloween. And literally, I know, three
- 51:51Speaker 2: weeks later I was gonna kill the biggest buck ever.
- 51:54Speaker 2: You know, I broke my pebe and freaking said like
- 51:57Speaker 2: that two times.
- 51:58Speaker 1: This is both on public ground.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Yes this picture, yeah sure, And I'm going to show
- 52:05Speaker 2: you the one that I killed the day before Thanksgiving.
- 52:09Speaker 1: So this is the second biggest bug.
- 52:12Speaker 2: I was like a man, you ain't never gonna make
- 52:14Speaker 2: this happen again. And uh, next thing, you know, this
- 52:20Speaker 2: hold on this one is there? It is.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Holy cow man.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Yeah man, that's Alabama public book guys in Alabama public land. Giant.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Look look at the one right here here.
- 52:37Speaker 1: We even filmed that with your camera.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Look the inside is spread of that thing.
- 52:42Speaker 3: How how wide is it?
- 52:44Speaker 2: Nineteen and a half.
- 52:45Speaker 1: That's a cool picture. Filming out with your camera. Even
- 52:48Speaker 1: you want to film something, you're getting a good shot
- 52:54Speaker 1: of it. Dude. You know what I like about all that.
- 52:57Speaker 1: I mean, I like everything about that story. But the
- 53:01Speaker 1: biggest thing is this is an observation I make all
- 53:04Speaker 1: the time. And I've mentioned a bunch. It doesn't matter
- 53:08Speaker 1: where you go in the country, and me and Jani
- 53:11Speaker 1: eve been fortunate to go everywhere, all over the place
- 53:14Speaker 1: talking to guys that hunt, talking to guys of fish
- 53:16Speaker 1: everywhere around the country. Everywhere you go, there's two kinds
- 53:20Speaker 1: of guys, and man, they live next door to each other.
- 53:24Speaker 1: There's the guys that like it all sucks now. Fishing
- 53:29Speaker 1: game ruined it, the mung ruined it, the wolves ruined it,
- 53:36Speaker 1: the out of staters ruined it. It all sucks right,
- 53:43Speaker 1: And next door to him everywhere you go in the
- 53:46Speaker 1: country is the guy that can't scratch the surface. There's
- 53:50Speaker 1: so much to do and he's so excited to be
- 53:53Speaker 1: alive and he can't get to it all. And you're
- 53:56Speaker 1: that guy.
- 53:57Speaker 2: I appreciate it. I like that. The crazy thing is
- 54:01Speaker 2: that you know, after well, mister Tunny introduced me with
- 54:05Speaker 2: mister Michael Perry, mister Jamie McKay, and the ball keeps
- 54:08Speaker 2: on rolling, Parking McDonald, then Williams and everybody just started
- 54:12Speaker 2: like pitching in, you know, to educate you, to educate, Yes,
- 54:17Speaker 2: And I started learning from all these killers. Man, Like
- 54:20Speaker 2: everybody's like, I'm doing good this lesson that mister Tony
- 54:25Speaker 2: taught me, and I think it was the most valuable
- 54:28Speaker 2: thing that he could said to me. He was, you
- 54:31Speaker 2: got to put some deer under your belt. Don't think
- 54:36Speaker 2: that you're gonna just go out there and shoot one
- 54:38Speaker 2: of these.
- 54:38Speaker 1: Just get it figured out.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Yes, I said, I'm so. I kill a bunch of spikes,
- 54:45Speaker 2: a bunch of them and those and four pointers, and
- 54:49Speaker 2: just keep shooting with my boat with the rifle. If
- 54:51Speaker 2: it was legal, I was shooting it just to learn, yes.
- 54:56Speaker 2: And he was like, eventually he's gonna click.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Well.
- 55:00Speaker 2: I had several encounters with really big dear. Couldn't take
- 55:04Speaker 2: a shot, got busted five years ago Christmas going to
- 55:09Speaker 2: be five years ago. Put a shot on that monster
- 55:11Speaker 2: with my bow. He was running, man, and I hit
- 55:14Speaker 2: him a little too far back. I couldn't stop it.
- 55:17Speaker 2: I was like, man, man, man, man, we got dogs
- 55:21Speaker 2: that I was shut him at by nine o'clock in
- 55:22Speaker 2: the morning. It was like four o'clock in the morning
- 55:26Speaker 2: next day.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Never found him.
- 55:28Speaker 2: Never man. The blood went dry and heartbreaker. But it
- 55:34Speaker 2: was incredible. It was one of the best moments ever
- 55:36Speaker 2: because I was like, good, that confirms, you know that
- 55:40Speaker 2: what I'm learning and the process that I've been following
- 55:43Speaker 2: is actually paying off. Now now I took like put
- 55:46Speaker 2: a step inside of what these guys do, you know,
- 55:49Speaker 2: Like I had an encounter and it's really good that
- 55:52Speaker 2: I have this experience because now I can relate with
- 55:55Speaker 2: them because this will happen, and He's going to happen.
- 55:58Speaker 2: You know, I think that killing that deer would have
- 56:03Speaker 2: steered me on the wrong direction. I could have got cocky.
- 56:09Speaker 2: Oh I don't got it all figured out?
- 56:10Speaker 1: Oh gotcha?
- 56:11Speaker 2: I did just killed and all. You know what I mean.
- 56:13Speaker 2: So it was a very humbling experience. There's a lot
- 56:18Speaker 2: more work to do, and it has to start with
- 56:20Speaker 2: myself practicing throughout the whole year. Then well, one of
- 56:27Speaker 2: those days with Daniel racking my mom, they gave me
- 56:30Speaker 2: my first rifle ever in my life ever, never own
- 56:34Speaker 2: one of arm. It's a thirty or six Remington seventy
- 56:37Speaker 2: seven thirty or six. Then throughout the years, I've been
- 56:41Speaker 2: having issues missing, you know, so I was like kind
- 56:43Speaker 2: of weird. Then Daniels said, like, when was the last
- 56:47Speaker 2: time you side this thing in?
- 56:50Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 56:50Speaker 2: And I was like, what what do you mean signing
- 56:54Speaker 2: litter that? I know? You know you gotta take this
- 56:57Speaker 2: character range And I have no clue. I thought they
- 57:00Speaker 2: just go out there.
- 57:01Speaker 1: It was it was brought to you with the scope
- 57:03Speaker 1: on it.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Yeah, And I just thought that you put that cross
- 57:05Speaker 2: where he's at. And because man, I had a dough,
- 57:07Speaker 2: I hit it boom and she hunched over and I
- 57:13Speaker 2: went crazy, and man, and it looked like a battle.
- 57:16Speaker 2: Feel like they're just blowing all over her. You know,
- 57:18Speaker 2: she was kind of like helping around. I just keep shooting,
- 57:21Speaker 2: reloading four more shots in the magazine. I end up
- 57:24Speaker 2: enting twelve shots that day. And I was like, what's
- 57:28Speaker 2: going on? I bet everybody in that public piece was like,
- 57:31Speaker 2: what's going on in the hall or you know? And yeah,
- 57:36Speaker 2: to make it short, man, I never found it dough
- 57:40Speaker 2: never did you know?
- 57:41Speaker 1: I learned your lesson there too.
- 57:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I said, Daniel. He said what happened? And
- 57:46Speaker 2: I said, I'm means And then that's when he brought
- 57:49Speaker 2: up like, when was the last time you saw this thing?
- 57:52Speaker 2: So what're me in? He's like you shot at our target,
- 57:55Speaker 2: say a deer. He's like, wait, like eight targeting and
- 58:00Speaker 2: say I never, like I just due can wing honting.
- 58:05Speaker 2: He was like, oh my god, no, man, it was
- 58:09Speaker 2: like your typical goodwill twenty nine ninety nine dollars is cope.
- 58:14Speaker 2: You know you got to try to like you just
- 58:15Speaker 2: spend five minutes trying to find the thing and finally
- 58:18Speaker 2: you find it. He looks awful. Yeah, I thought that's
- 58:21Speaker 2: what he was. And it was pretty funny. It was
- 58:25Speaker 2: a very fun experience.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Well, Papa, listen, man, we got to get ready for
- 58:29Speaker 1: the show. This is awesome to talk to you.
- 58:30Speaker 2: Though, I know, man, is that this is a very
- 58:33Speaker 2: unique opportunity. I really appreciate you guys.
- 58:35Speaker 1: I'd like to have you on to tell more of
- 58:37Speaker 1: the hunting stories. But that's a good background prime right there.
- 58:39Speaker 3: Definitely, the enthusiasm is both like jealousy inducing and motivating.
- 58:47Speaker 3: You know, appreciate it because I think part of the
- 58:49Speaker 3: thing that we sometimes battle, at least I do, is
- 58:51Speaker 3: because we get to do it so much. I sometimes
- 58:54Speaker 3: find myself like I'm like I should be more excited
- 58:58Speaker 3: in this moment. I just got to kill an other
- 59:00Speaker 3: beautiful mule deer buck in the mountains of whatever Western state. Man, man,
- 59:05Speaker 3: And I'm here in the moment, but like, I don't
- 59:08Speaker 3: have the enthusiasm that you're experiencing for shooting spikes and dose.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Man, I get it with a dough like as we speak.
- 59:15Speaker 2: I get lacer sharp on the moment as soon as
- 59:18Speaker 2: that arrow or that bullet leaves. It's like a dumb
- 59:23Speaker 2: But I don't know how. And this, oh man, uh,
- 59:28Speaker 2: this been the best season ever. Two bucks out of state.
- 59:32Speaker 2: I gotta give a shot to Clay really quick. Gave
- 59:35Speaker 2: me his bebs, got clays newcomes bebes. They didn't even
- 59:40Speaker 2: wash them as I ain't even gonna wash them because
- 59:43Speaker 2: it got Clay's look.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Put him on.
- 59:46Speaker 2: Went to Kansas by myself. Just jump on my truck
- 59:48Speaker 2: and drop shot a buck. Color friend. They're like a man, nice,
- 59:53Speaker 2: We're heading to Missouri, I said, can I join? Yeah?
- 59:57Speaker 2: Went down to Missouri, shot a buck the still with
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: my boat, came home and shot to one of them
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: being that bay when the riba was showing y'all with
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: with all of them with Kay's beebe son excellent. Man
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: has something you know, I've never been supertitious, but.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: This I might have to get a parent. I want,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: I want to welcome you to America.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Thank you, man, welcome to me in your life. Thank
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: you all.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: I appreciate y'all. Thank you. How A good one
