- 0:01There are many powers at work in the world.
- 0:03Physical powers, vital powers, mental powers, spiritual powers.
- 0:10They are native to their own sphere, but in many cases they
- 0:14are active here in our world, trying to assert themselves and
- 0:18thrive here. Many of these powers are
- 0:21conscious and act with intentionality.
- 0:25Some support the development of consciousness and represent the
- 0:29spiritual forces that are beneficent, helpful and
- 0:33compassionate. Others oppose this development
- 0:37and try to either maintain a status quo within which they
- 0:40have considerable influence or destroy the work of those
- 0:45seeking to move the evolution forward.
- 0:48This poses a unique challenge for the spiritual seeker.
- 0:53Powers descend into the seeker and they may in some cases take
- 0:57on the appearance of forces of light or progress, while they
- 1:00may actually be hostile or contrary forces.
- 1:05In the modern world of artificial intelligence, the
- 1:08Internet, Photoshop we learn to be careful, even suspicious of
- 1:15whatever is presented before us so we can avoid being scammed or
- 1:20subjected to what are called deep fakes.
- 1:24Jr. Ark Tolkien in his epic tale The
- 1:27Lord of the Rings makes a statement that quote all that is
- 1:33gold does not glitter. End Quote.
- 1:36Which is a corollary to the well known proverb that all the
- 1:40glitters is not gold. The spiritual seeker needs to
- 1:44exercise a similar discernment when it comes to the powers that
- 1:48seek to influence and act upon them and through him.
- 1:54Many seekers, particularly novices on the path, confused
- 1:57the concept of surrender to the divine power with the absence of
- 2:01any form of discernment, believing that everything that
- 2:05comes to him must be what he is intended to receive.
- 2:09In his book, The Mother, Sri Aurobindo distinguishes active
- 2:13effort from a misplaced reliance on the Divine doing everything
- 2:17for him. Quote Note that a Temasek
- 2:21surrender, refusing to fulfill the conditions and calling on
- 2:25God to do everything and save one all the trouble and struggle
- 2:29is a deception and does not lead to freedom and perfection.
- 2:34End Quote. He expands with a warning.
- 2:38Quote If you open yourself on one side or in one part to the
- 2:43truth, and on another side are constantly opening the gates to
- 2:47hostile forces, it is vain to expect that divine grace will
- 2:52abide with you. End Quote.
- 2:56The seeker eventually must find a way to distinguish the true
- 2:59divine force and those that represent something other.
- 3:04This discernment comes from the psychic being's inner sense of
- 3:07rightness as it experiences the energy and potential
- 3:11consequences, powers that bring any kind of rajasic desire,
- 3:17ambition or grasping where those that lull 1 into indolence and
- 3:22dullness are to be rejected. Sri Orobindo writes quote.
- 3:30It is dangerous to think of giving up all barrier of
- 3:33discrimination and defence against what is trying to
- 3:36descend upon you. Have you thought what this would
- 3:39mean? If what is descending is
- 3:41something not in consonance with the Divine Truth, perhaps even
- 3:44adverse? An adverse power would ask no
- 3:48better condition for getting control over the seeker.
- 3:52It is only the Mother's force and the Divine Truth that one
- 3:56should admit without barriers. And even there, one must keep
- 4:00the power of discernment in order to detect anything false
- 4:04that comes masquerading as the Mother's Force and the Divine
- 4:08Truth, and keep too, the power of rejection that will throw
- 4:13away all mixture. Keep faith in your spiritual
- 4:18destiny, draw back from error, and open more of the psychic
- 4:23being to the direct guidance of the Mother's light and power.
- 4:27If the central will is sincere, each recognition of a mistake
- 4:31can become a stepping stone to a truer movement and a higher
- 4:36progress. End Quote.
