Transcript
- 0:11[SPEAKER_03]: everybody, welcome on, and this is my next time post game podcast here on the post game room at Brian Denny Stadium.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_03]: Why would I in the field?
- 0:19[SPEAKER_03]: Don't worry about it.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma wins 23, 21 in a landmark massive colossal Titanic.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_03]: Monumental to the throw or the win.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_03]: Monumental massive season to finally fly with land before the Oklahoma City.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_03]: Try and check if you're on set Carson.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_03]: You were on the field.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_03]: How was it?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: It was amazing this game was absolutely ridiculous.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna have trouble putting worse together for the strike this game as hopefully you guys do too because this was just an incredible game.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: I was easy.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: My story is easy.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: That is John Hoover over there for the audio crew.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: Brett Vevils and the post games brought up a couple of words.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I said, Grantless, explore those words.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I had him pull him apart.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Boy, he gave us a good quote about kicking the door down and responding to the fire.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: And he's been... Britsman threw some tough stuff in his life and his team reflects that.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: Holy cow, this team has made it his image.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we, uh, it all started on Friday.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma boards the buses board the plane to head out to T-town and you might not be able to spot it if you go back and look on the social media stuff because they've all got their jackets on but everyone has a black shirt underneath it with some white lettering on it.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's hard to kill.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_03]: That's what those shirts said in Oklahoma prove that today 2321, a first half that felt almost like a copy and paste at times from what we watched a couple weeks ago Carson at Newlin.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_03]: It was an Oklahoma offense that couldn't stay on the field at times in the first half.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_03]: But when the defense gave them the ball and favorable territory, they got a touchdown or got a field goal.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: It was an Oklahoma defense that despite the fact that they were on the field, that despite the fact that they gave up an early touchdown in the second half that put Oklahoma behind.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_03]: They came roaring back, they ratched it up and they locked in and it was an Oklahoma team.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_03]: That snap Salam is 17-game winning streak at Bryant did he stadium.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's an Oklahoma team that comes in and becomes the first SEC team to win on this ground.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_03]: I guess technically Texas, right?
- 2:15[SPEAKER_03]: But it was when they were not an ESC 12.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, when they
- 2:19[SPEAKER_03]: There were a big 12 team and then you go all the way back to SEC, they became the first team since Ole Miss to beat Alabama and back to back seasons in 14 and 15.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_03]: That sounds really familiar to go into New Zealand, being the first team since Georgia, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, all that stuff.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_03]: And it was in large part guys due to another.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_03]: fantastic overwhelming deepest performance.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_03]: Three turn oversforced.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_03]: One of them taken back for a touchdown.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_03]: This time the touchdown did not cost a little one of its key defenders, but Eli Bowen with the early pick six that puts them up to nothing.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_03]: You had Jaden Hardy of all people.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_03]: Punch it out the ball from Ryan Williams hand on a punt and then later in the game it was Taylor Why I know our Mason Thomas no problem is Taylor why and gets it done Guys, this was an welcome the defense that had done everything but forced the turnover They forced four turnovers through the first seven games and now in their last eight quarters Six turnovers forced two defensive scores and two road wins and some of the most treacherous road And environments in the SEC
- 3:16[SPEAKER_03]: I set it after the game and who will dive into the grit and everything, but Oakland back back weeks has gotten wins at Newland and at Bryant Dini.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_03]: The series aren't just ready for the SEC, they've found a home in the SEC.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: They look like an SEC team with that defense, or Mason Thomas, 71-yard school record thumb will return to basically win the Tennessee game.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Today, it was Eli Bowman 87-yard pick six interception, eight longest return interception and turn in school history, to basically think about the weight and where this game, where that play falls in this game, this is a 2.1 win, and then it had a pick six, 87-yard pick six, on which he was nearly caught himself caught by the quarterback, he kind of turned into the quarterback and time couldn't catch him, but gosh, I mean,
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: This defense, they've been good all year.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: They've been really good, SEC, ready, defense, all that stuff all year.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then what happens?
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: They got two games on the road.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: 100,000 people, both games, hostile territory, rank team, they go on the road in the handle of their business, not just handle their business.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you defense took over the game twice.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I really did.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is, it's just such a 180 from what we were thinking the overreactions that I know myself included were making about this team.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: This, I'm not sure Brent Minibles has a future at all.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: You now you get back to back wins against Tennessee and Bama to very hostile environments against two very good football teams.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: There have been a lot of excuses, oh, oh, use beat Michigan.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: Michigan's not great.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: Auburn's not great.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: What's the excuse for Alabama?
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: This Alabama team that's beat Georgia, LSU, Vanderbilt, Missouri, you name it.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: They've won the big games this year.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is a true program to finding win for Britain, the doubles in company after beating them last year and what was a disappointing season.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's pretty or markable that the turnovers are coming, the defense is excellent.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: The offense still not amazing, but showing flashes when needed.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, went a long way into determining the outcome tonight, and just so massive for two games left, eight and two, that's way different than what we were thinking after Ole Miss.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you look at it, guys, and I'll be in an out game circle home of 462-12.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_03]: Perfect for Oklahoma and land on 2-12.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_03]: Jon Mc's here only goes 15 to 23 for 138 through the air.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_03]: Xavier Robinson, who had left the game and came back out with a big knee.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_03]: I guess not quite a brace, maybe a sleeve is what we'd call it.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_03]: He leads the team in Russia with 37 yards.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_03]: Jon Mc's here is 23 yards.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_03]: He would have led the team with the sack, hadn't been said to track it out, but it's called football.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_03]: So, Tanya had a 21-yard run.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_03]: It was not pretty, right?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_03]: Or at least, to R.I. Bribbles was asked about it after the game, not a pretty win.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_03]: And John, this kind of goes into everything that you talked about, that for Bribbles, this was beautiful.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_03]: This was a defensive game.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_03]: This was a offense that nothing was perfect.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: And when he rather have 70 points on the board and kick the crap out of Alameda, sure.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: But I haven't been that Bribbles loves the collective way that basically it was like, it wasn't always beautiful.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_03]: but when Jayden already punches the ball out and say me with Seigo Falls on it, two plays later, John, but to your trucks forward 20 yards for a touchdown.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_03]: It was all about they played complimentary football at the exact right times.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_03]: At times and then the rest of the way, they just leaned on that Brettonville's defense.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's right.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: When you look at the final totals, I mean, offensively Oklahoma did not play pretty football.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: Two hundred and twelve yards total offense.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: Time of possession was the 25 minutes to 35 minutes, Alabama had the time of possession.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the deal.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: Mattier, like you said, he completed fifth, it was a 15-21, I think, 15-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Another more hidden yards, the 87-yard interception return, the Isaiah Satania 42-yard part return.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: It was not beautiful in the sense that all you had a bunch of yards and much first downs and kept the football all day, but they made plays at just the right time, it just the right juncture of the game by just the right person and just the right spot.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: Right, except for Kobe McKenzie when he couldn't pick up that phone.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, you're just supposed to fall on it.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_03]: I would argue he made the exact right play because the focal home or a cover is that fumble, the focal offense is not margin to the field of scoring.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_03]: What happened the exact next play?
- 7:57[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, is there such a?
- 7:58[SPEAKER_03]: The pick six, the very, even when you come right and see screws it up, it is the right moment, it is the right next play.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's the right flow up for the focal home of defense.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_03]: No, timely stuff.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_03]: And it was incredibly timely too, because you look at it.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_03]: And this defense picked Oklahoma's offense up in all the right moments.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_03]: You go all the way back to Oklahoma's up, three to nothing.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_03]: The Kiplus goes out, gets a first down sack on that next drive and forces out, be able to punt.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma comes out they pick up that first down on third and two and you're thinking okay can they hold the ball a little bit and keep Alabama's office on the side by and then Keaton Helms gets hit with a blindside block and suddenly they're in like 13-18 or 13-20 they're dependent away Alabama's coming down can they finally score get up 7-3 let the crowd start to work that's the drive that you had to cover McKinsey it was Reggie Powers have punched out Kobe McKinsey almost grabbed it didn't pick six all that stuff a little bit later when
- 8:54[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how many times we sat there and tore the end of the third quarter and out there was up to one to 20 and you sit there and go, okay, 4th and 6 have the touch back and the defense goes out there and gets it stopped, okay, this is the time, you're down one point, we know you just got to get to the 40 to get to Sandel territory.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_03]: Offends goes three and out and you sit here and I'm sure on the field cars and the vibes are like, okay This is the Alabama.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_03]: They've a chance to maybe go up 28 20 really put this thing out of reach.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_03]: What happens on that next drive?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_03]: Taylor one, third down, strip sack, Kindle Daniels who had a past interference earlier in the game that wiped off a Robert Spirits' shootings, interception that would have kept it for going to 10-7 instead, it does.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_03]: He falls on the football Oklahoma able to settle for the field goal, get up 23-21 and from there, Carson, the defense game up basically, not the never-lookback.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_03]: It was everything was at the right moment for the Zokomadeathense.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: No, it definitely felt that way, like even with the misguce, it felt like they always responded well to when they didn't play great.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: I know that defending the tight end was a struggle at times tonight.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: The second there you have, it's lapses at times tonight.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: But never a mistake that just sunk them and they always rose up when it seemed like this, oh, this, not oh you, Alabama crowd.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: was getting the most hyped to the most buzz in the stadium.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: The defense didn't waver for OU.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: It always stepped up to the play.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we've seen time and time again earlier in the year.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: How good Ty Simpson is, how efficient he is, how explosive some of their playmakers are on the outside.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, they broke off a couple of those, but not entirely moments.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought the last offensive possession for OU was just
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: stellar hold of them to I think it was third in 20 something along that lines they complete they complete a pass get into about fourth in 10 and then a pass break up by Peyton Bowen that was just a master class kind of some bending but not breaking in a lot of situations we've seen that we do a fuel going nothing on the final drive for Bama seals the win for OU just that was that was kind of just a symbol of how good this defense was all night
- 11:03[SPEAKER_03]: If you look at it for Alabama, they had 132 yards in the second half, okay?
- 11:08[SPEAKER_03]: Of that only 40 of it came in the fourth quarter and their second half scoring drive, the 7 play, 75 of your drive, that all came on three plays basically.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_03]: You had the 28 yard run, literally got them out of there, then you had a 20 yard pass completion, a 26 yard pass completion.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_03]: So that's 75 of those yards there, the second half came on that one drive, and then from there,
- 11:28[SPEAKER_03]: Here's the drive track for Alabama.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_03]: 3 and out, only 7 yards game.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_03]: 5 plays, 10 yards game, that's the strip sack by Taylor 1.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_03]: Next up, they go backwards to yards, Alabama 3 and out, after going to yards their wrong direction.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_03]: Then it was 13 plays right at the ending, because it was trying to
- 11:44[SPEAKER_03]: Dink and dunk, you know, that stuff for Alabama, but ultimately, Oklahoma, able to blow up and like you mentioned it was Peyton Bowen and so you start the game with Eli Bowen basically, not necessarily, it started, but early in the game, you have the first massive momentum swing was the Eli Bowen pick six and then Peyton Bowen reaches across.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_03]: able to break it up and make sure that ball goes in the ground.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_03]: Some of that wasn't even called.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_03]: Peyton Bowman was supposed to be on the running back.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_03]: He said after the game, and Kindle Daniels, they all knew exactly what was happening.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: And Kindle Daniels said, actually, you take Ryan Williams.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_03]: And Peyton Bowman's ever to come over.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_03]: He was able to crown himself Eli Bowman, said that was Peyton declaring himself homecoming King, which was a talking point that was, uh,
- 12:25[SPEAKER_03]: pretty bad ass, don't say so myself, and it gets us to this point guys where we had a couple of these games last year where it was really hard to tell what would have actually happened hit Oklahoma at a functioning offense, she would get a saffron line a game a year ago, where it was overport started, you'll get the two turnovers right before the end of half against Texas, that thing turned around.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_03]: And you go what wouldn't have been what would the Missouri game had been if Oklahoma simply just had an offense that wouldn't go it But just didn't hand the ball to the other team.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_03]: What would the old misgabe would have what would that have looked like if Oklahoma could have just put together one or two more drives in the second half an Oxford Well boys we saw an offense today that like we said it wasn't great by any means I'm not gonna come and wax poetic about the efficiency and all that stuff But crucially they were able to cash in
- 13:10[SPEAKER_03]: when they got a turnover their way.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_03]: They all their points came in and drives up a turnover.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_03]: So there's only the one moment where they crossed into field goal territory and then you had the intentional grounding, which I think was a bad call.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_03]: And when it was thought it was a bad call, because Isaiah said, hey, he was trying to get back to the line of scrimmage now, but Tyrant put it.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_03]: Three yards further.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_03]: He wouldn't really win a fourth issue and said that Satan he was in the area But they're usually pretty liberal with that that was the only time that they got to feel Go around and then got knocked back out of feeling go range other than that though guys.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_03]: You you got who Theo you offense that just didn't turn the ball over and found a way that when they needed to my say smash off football thought like they went on a 13 play drive to kill the game but smash my football geometry How many Albeva Crimson tied the fenders did he carry to the end zone after the Jaden Hardy
- 13:57[SPEAKER_03]: Punch out on the ride wins probably like you got what you need.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's does it need to be a lot better We're talking the big picture stuff down the line.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, absolutely but on the road at Bryant, did he stadium the last true road Game of Column may play all year long including a college football play up.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_03]: This is what you need in a gritty gritty Tupper performance on the way you happen.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, gritty defines it.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a good word And here's the thing with you talk about complain or football earlier Ryan.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think the offense is feeling
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: Then let's say pressure, but there may be motivated, maybe inspired by how well the defense is playing and I don't mean just playing well, playing officially.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: They're kicking people's butts up and down the field.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: They're dominating the line of scrimmage.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: They're reaching in knocking balls down, they're getting after the quarterback.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: They're scaring people on the other side of the field right now.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: They're scaring the other team's offense and the OU offense goes out there and is like,
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: OK, guys, let's see if we can get first down.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right, ready to set up.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then you got the other side of the equation, the third cube on this or the third side on this, three-sided cube, you like that.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: Tight sand though.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: The guy who goes out and just kicks 50 yard field goes like you and me roll out a bed and scramble some eggs in the morning.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he is effortless with how he's doing this.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: And he said, he said, you can't get too high.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: You can't get too low.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: You can't get, you know, after a good kick, after a bad kick.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: He isn't at a bad kick since August.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was technically September.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: Was it September?
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was the Michigan.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_03]: The first one against Michigan.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_03]: So it was technically September.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: As he didn't kick against, it was technically the first game I thought I didn't forget.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: It was his first game.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, the offense being basically,
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, shown how to perform on a stage like this, and I'm not suggesting that the offense was great tonight, but the offense did just enough to get the win.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_03]: In real quick, Carson, it's not just takes him to, I want to say it was both kickers for Oklahoma, because sinned down rolls out three field goals of 25 yards, 52 yards, 24 yards.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_03]: That new school record as far as consecutive field goals made, 21, he's now seven of seven.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_03]: from beyond 50, but it was also Grace and Miller who I believe was your under the radar play.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_03]: Was it you?
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: I got, I think I got PJ at a bore.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: Some of the games, some of the games, some of the games, some of the games, might have been able.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_03]: Regardless, had Grace and Miller's there under the radar player, six pots, averaged 46.7 yards per kick.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_03]: Now, 57 yarder to help flip field, three of those pots.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_03]: We're down inside the 20 yard line.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_03]: And I thought that John, it was massive.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_03]: The moments that Oklahoma didn't move the football in Carson and I was arguing here.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_03]: At the moment, Oklahoma didn't move the football, Grayson Miller flipped the field with a massive, massive kick.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_03]: And so whether it was Tate Sandale ending with nine points on those three drives or Grayson Miller, it was doing enough and barely enough for the couple of offense, but I thought the kickers bailed out the offense.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I thought the special teams, honestly, just special teams as a whole was pretty fantastic today.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you look at Miller, I don't remember, was it South Carolina that he had a pretty rough game or was that Texas?
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm blanking.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously the one got returned against him in the Texas game.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think South Carolina, he had a couple that had a shank.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a shank.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, since then, he has been lights out.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: Even the Ole Miss game, he was really good.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: He was great last.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: or two weeks ago against Tennessee and he was fantastic really I mean that last punt that he had pinned them very far deep.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: They were able to work their way out of that but still a really good punt.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: He was great Sandell I mean we could talk about him on every podcast I feel like with how good he's been just long kick short kicks at this point it's pretty inevitable he's nails he's going to make the kick.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean with an offense that doesn't have its true consistency yet, but to that point, I did want to mention, they played a mistake free football for the most parts of the day.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: There were a couple of that material that would want back, Satania had that whoopsie on that fumble that went out of bounds, but overall nothing just damning that really cost them.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: any serious momentum at least.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: So is this offense anywhere near a finished product?
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: No?
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: Was it good enough tonight with the help of really good special teams and really good defense?
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_03]: And I think the material thing is a little bit baked in, right?
- 18:09[SPEAKER_03]: Every game he goes out there, there's one or two that we come back and say,
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: You've probably been his best games early in the season.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's Michigan and Auburn.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: He had some of those moments.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: But that just comes with being a playmaking quarterback.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to throw on the run.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to jump throw sometimes.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: And mistakes are going to happen with that.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: Thankfully, nothing just too costly.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: There was one.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was third quarter.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: That was like that could be dicey.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: Was it a play made by the Alabama defense, though?
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately, like we said, nothing just that cost them too much.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Oklahoma, on average, start on its own 43-yard line.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_03]: Alabama, on average, start on its own 21-yard line.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: Which, when you have a defense, John, that played like this defense played today, you could have probably put it wherever it had success, but no Armace and Thomas, no Gentry Williams, a Jaden Jackson, that was really, really limited, played really two, maybe three drives, but he wasn't able to really give it a go.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_03]: He's got it had popped up on the availability report later on in the week.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_03]: No Armace and Thomas, guess what?
- 19:12[SPEAKER_03]: Taylor once on this football team, guess what?
- 19:14[SPEAKER_03]: Danny and Kuay is out there in big moments, and then we would him around, guess what?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: It was Kip Lewis who was getting pressure on the quarterback.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_03]: It was Devon Jordan, you know, deep into your quarterback rotation and dial up a corner place or day day Jordan.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to put our fifth corner, our sixth corner of the field and we're going to listen.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: Right at the middle and he's gonna and he's not late.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_03]: Not only is he gonna get a sack.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_03]: There was a brief moment I just happened to be watching Jordan because I thought that they had screwed up pre-stabbed I was wrong.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_03]: I was fooled just as much as Tyson and and so I moved in my binoculars and I was like wait But there was a moment that he like a split second where he might have been able to rip at the ball one day able to get it which is good on Tyson and able to get that go on, but John that this is
- 19:56[SPEAKER_03]: But we're stacking up a bunch of these moments with preventables at Oklahoma, he's returned to Oklahoma.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_03]: When you consider everything about this game, Alabama, what they want to do, which was throw the ball and trust high Simpson, all that stuff.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_03]: The fact that Oklahoma went out there and held them to 21 points, I know that doesn't sound like a dominating overwhelming performance or anything like that.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_03]: But at Brooklynville set after the game, the pile was moving in the direction of the suitors, and he basically, he himself was like, yeah, we, that was us, if you turn on the tape and ask who's the more physical team, he basically said there's only one answer, it was us.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, on Sabenfield, he's super proud of that too.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: Did you, you guys saw the fans, right?
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: The way they get all gathered in the post game after the, after the game was over the gathered and kind of a big wedge.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, all the people that were sprinkled around,
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know 3,000 for you.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever the way a lot meant is.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_03]: I'd take on just a five or six.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_03]: It was the way a lot meant plus.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: Plus, right.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: Plus agreed.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: And they were, they were everywhere in Tuscaloos today as we drove through this morning.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Brent really enjoyed that.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the reason he enjoyed it is.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he would've enjoyed it if they had beaten Alabama 38 to nothing.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: Or let's say 52 to 30, right?
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: He would've been down there doing the same thing, but I think it really touched his soul that this was again.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's looking back at it and saying, we're greedy, we're tough, we're dirty, we fight them mud.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: He loves that stuff.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: And the fans are out there just losing their minds.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: They don't care how you win, they just want to win, right?
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's down there enjoying both the victory and the method of victory.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_03]: Well, and he also too, I, if you guys go to the website, alquisuresonacide.com and you see in of our stories and our videos are in there to go to who's YouTube page John Hoover Media and you watch you in the videos.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_03]: And you've done that for four years.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_03]: You've heard very common themes of like, we'll celebrate it for a little bit that we got to get back on Sunday in the film.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_03]: We're the nameless fences upon it.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_03]: You got to pay for everybody like it's everything blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_03]: That's true, that's how they prepare.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_03]: But also, break venables is a college football junkie.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_03]: Break venables knows what it meant to play against Alabama, to coach against Alabama when we were Clemson and to catch up with a playoff.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_03]: Break venables knows what it means.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_03]: To still be the new kid on the block in this conference and to go to Nealin Stadium,
- 22:17[SPEAKER_03]: and lay your mark down.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_03]: He knows what it means when you're Oklahoma, even when you're Oklahoma, to walk into Sabanfield.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_03]: Teams don't do that.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_03]: Some of team teams have tried and failed, Texas was the last one, and that snapped another big long shot.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_03]: And Georgia's the last one, and that snapped another big long shot.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_03]: At Brent Finneville's nose,
- 22:36[SPEAKER_03]: what this win means, and it doesn't just mean that Oklahoma controls their on path, not just to the cause of a play up, but to hosting a game in the cause of a pop.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't just mean that other 8 and 2 and Brett Bumble's doesn't have to worry about pressure, hot seed on that stuff.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_03]: Brett Bumble knows what a win like this means for your program, regardless of if it was the most beautiful thing, if it was 40 to 38, if it was 7 to nothing.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: No, you take them, how you get them against teams like Alabama.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: And you do any game, but especially in an atmosphere like this, a program that I think pretty undisputably has been the best in the 21st century.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: That is this legacy.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, even if it isn't Nick Savon's teams, this is still kind of what's looked at as the gold standard in college football.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: We want BAM a chance, all of that.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: Winning this year, winning last year when they had a bad, I mean that's that's pretty remarkable when you just step aside for a minute and think about They've been Bama two years in a row once at home once on the road and this is a really good Bama team last year was a good Bama team This is a really good team.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they had won eight in a row Some people are arguing they're the best team in the SEC They still could be at this point.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: They still could be but tonight they weren't Oklahoma was the better team just
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: All three phases were what they needed to be, even if that wasn't the sexiest game plan.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's what they needed to win in this atmosphere that very, very few teams have in recent memory.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: And just to everything about this, Reggie Powers, that was fantastic tonight.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_03]: He's all over the place on top of Kindle Dance, I think Kindle Dance was bad, it was a lot of a game of Kindle Dance, but Kindle Dance had that stretch of three or four games early in the season where you're just like, holy crap, the cheetah position.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_03]: Now it's Reggie Powers coming up stronger than I thought that
- 24:18[SPEAKER_03]: Cortland Gillary he opens down the first possession of the game.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_03]: What is the killing to board out of there would you?
- 24:23[SPEAKER_03]: Let's put Ryan Williams on the freshman and see what he's got.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_03]: What did the turns around?
- 24:27[SPEAKER_03]: Makes the look at the football physical play everything Cortland has been doing but makes the look at the football guess what?
- 24:33[SPEAKER_03]: No passenger ferrets no holding boom Bob Geronko.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about Devon Jordan popping an e-light ball with the big pic stick Kid Lewis was that chip Lewis.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_03]: I thought was all over the place.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_03]: I thought Copa McKinsey was quietly
- 24:48[SPEAKER_03]: with the chest match at the time of the scrimmage of how much the bore grove and simpson check in and out of stuff how much shifting that Alabama doesn't it's not just one guy It's shifting both your receivers and tight ends all the way across the formation of shift to make it move more for Kobe McKinsey to be pull in the strings and set everybody up We're oh and a hynicky to be in that stance
- 25:08[SPEAKER_03]: I thought that was fantastic as well because there were not many times that you sat there just went.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma wasn't lined up or wasn't ready or they had to burn one time out to get some guys off the field just because I don't know if it didn't so but I think they thought they did but if you're just talking about one of those and the grand scheme of things it wasn't.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_03]: anything major.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_03]: I just thought that topped a bottle.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_03]: I can't really find it different.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_03]: I thought I had a bad night actually when you go down.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: No, that's what I was asking you during the game.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: I do this stock report.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Who's up?
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Who's down, right?
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I just kept saying, up, up.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: But I kept typing and naming guys that were up.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I looked at Ryan and said, Ryan, who am I going to put it here?
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's down.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody's got to be down.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Who is it?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's like whoever's responsible for the tie-down.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's how I put it down.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's first.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: That was a group effort.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: That was.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: One down was an injury,
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's literally down.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think Kobe McKinsey might've got one for missing the thumbull and then I think you got stuffed in the line.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_03]: Was this actually a master?
- 26:04[SPEAKER_03]: I can't wait to talk to Kobe on Monday, Monday, Monday, Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday, on the franchise.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_03]: Eddie now talked to Kobe, basically we'll give him a time to ask for a miss in the ball.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_03]: But also it was a master stroke as we said.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was a just an overall, I mean.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: They figured out how to cover the tie-dend.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: And this has been the thing since last year.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's been the thing for years.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: Four years is a four years.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's also a thing for Alex Krabs.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: I remember it.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well, OK, I did.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: No, I remember the game at Ole Miss.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: It was just like here, and it gives it this guy, but yeah, no, that offense needs to figure some things out.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: And they did a couple of things strangely.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: I thought, I mean, I'm sure there's a reason.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to know what it is.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: And right tackle.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: between Foja and Simmons?
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know if that was experimenting or giving a young kid a break or...
- 26:54[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if it was like, as much as you got Derek Simmons back and...
- 26:59[SPEAKER_03]: I was okay with him.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_03]: I think that first off, you're not getting like another year of Derek Simmons.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_03]: This is a grad transfer, basically.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_03]: And part of it too was, I think it's excited as you are about Foja and a true freshman.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_03]: And I certainly was not someone that said 90 to suddenly start Simmons.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think there was a moment where we know Bill Beanboat does this from time to time.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_03]: The last guy that got this tree was heat-o-zided right-runner otherwise if things aren't just clicking He'll make one change to see if that can kind of spark things and so we saw Simmons and Fo-J flip back and forth a little bit but
- 27:29[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how to quantify this guy, so what's happening in the winning column is you come out of the Texas game and you go, okay, there was some turbulence and Oklahoma was not able to overcome.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of that in the third quarter stayed on the field, only three plates for the offense, basically I think they technically ran four plates, but the last player, the third quarter was in the fourth quarter, not able to when Texas makes their run respond to get back up off the map, whether that's forced to turn over or whatever,
- 27:55[SPEAKER_03]: against Ole Miss.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_03]: Same thing it.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe it's just as simple as forcing the turnovers by giving the offensive short feels they can get back on the board.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_03]: But for a team that was if and but almost maybe what's happened here, what's happened in there, certainly wasn't against Michigan, certainly wasn't against Auburn, those don't look as shiny, it's certainly the Auburn as they once did.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_03]: This is a team that you go into Newlin and you have that third quarter where momentum and the crowd fully swings back and you you silence it, you quiet it.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_03]: You have this start of the fourth quarter, where it actually, as you said, the crowd is rocking, it's going It's the guy's gonna go break down, they say winnings a skill, all that stuff.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_03]: This brick venibles team and I don't know if you want to have the answer for it, it's hard to put into words.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_03]: They are learning how to win.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_03]: And if the offense can ever get to just put in some drives together, a few drives together, this is a team with this defense and grace and Miller and Tate Sandell.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_03]: And Isaiah Sattini is a part returner, but he's not firmly the football.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_03]: This is a team that up and down the top 25 except for maybe Ohio State.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe, I think that anyone else that looks around and goes, I would not like to have to a game plan Oklahoma on the two-week turnaround with Brett Vittals and the way this defense is planned.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny because I feel like this team, the high of what we've seen of this team could be anybody on a given day.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: The lo of what we've seen in this team, in the red river game, could lose to just about the entire top 25, I think.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I think there's been a lot of growth since that stretch where they did drop two of those three games The defense has been even better than it was the defense didn't lose either of those games in my opinion But it's sharpened up.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's starting to force those takeaways like we've talked about Material looks more comfortable.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't look like he was identically
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: again, stop or miss you again.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: Temple, those games, but he's looking more comfortable avoiding the big mistakes and the run game.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it wasn't great tonight.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: Let's not sugarcoat that, but Robinson gives them something.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: Blaylock, it was good to see him have a bigger role today.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: You would assume that he's going to see more snaps in coming games.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: Especially for Robinson, we'll have to figure out.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, in the shuffle of everything, there was not a, hey, can you update us on Zebrabs?
- 30:08[SPEAKER_03]: Also, because it would have been, uh, we'll look at it, we'll get back to Normann type thing.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: But hey, I thought we should look at the profile by focus numbers tomorrow, or tonight, uh, to see what his yard's after contact was.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like he didn't get a lot of yards, but I thought he got a lot of yards after content, which that's his he didn't go down He's a yeah, no, I don't think he went down with one guy the whole night very impressive Yeah, it was really really that was like him.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's still hard tackle.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_03]: He's like and he won a quite a hundred But even then it was really really
- 30:38[SPEAKER_03]: Resture because you look at it Alabama is as much as the sockets of mine didn't get the push that we saw at times against Tennessee Certainly in South Carolina even in that second half console miss out there will only finish this with four tackles for loss and two sacks and one of the sacks
- 30:54[SPEAKER_03]: Both of the sacks.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_03]: I actually thought we're just a hundred percent on geometry.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: Just not getting rid of the full Yeah, both times he was trying to make something happen.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_03]: The good news is he didn't do a like almost disastrous chest pass those work like oh my god He just went down, but I actually thought that both sacks were on material on top of the four tackles for lawsuits
- 31:13[SPEAKER_03]: It's something that you look at it and this defense is a fun way to affect all over the place.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_03]: It's spilling over to special teams because obviously we've typed out the hardy punch.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_03]: Here's the wine wine the last play the first half jumps over tips blocks the field.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_03]: Go at that.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously in a game, we're Oklahoma wins by two Taylor wine.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_03]: He said it that they saw it on tape and he had to clear the offensive line at the right next to the long snap, or able to get a hand on it, sprays it wide.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, all of that is a massive crucial and that's preventable is defenders popping up in other places in the game.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, tell the one.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, is that not illegal anymore?
- 31:55[SPEAKER_03]: You didn't jump over the snap right?
- 31:58[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's the snap.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, dude, I thought he jumped over the snap.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think you can't get it.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was a lot for it, you can't get it.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_03]: You could leverage in the snapper and he did not jump.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_03]: I could tell you, he did not jump over.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: You can jump over to Finder, right?
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: You can't just jump over to Finder, so I was a little distracted, but I'm too much to drink to that.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: But no, I was a water, obviously.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, obviously, no, it was too coffee's a water,
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: No, two coffees like six waters and red bull.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we move on with Taylor one's blood.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: If you guys see the replay on that if you didn't see the replay, the ball is like his giant long arm sticks out It hits his ring finger Just one ring finger in his finger kind of bends back for super slow replay How much more dramatic can you get in a two point win?
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: Then a three point field go block
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he was, he was doing the money assigned to that partial one, partial one.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: Let's call it this.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was, that was a big momentum swing that I think it's easy to get overlooked because I didn't know immediately that he got a piece of it, but watching back, I did get footage of it.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: He definitely got a hand on it, did the money, the money, whatever you want to call it, making it rain celebration, but that was huge.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: It sent them back to the locker room with elite, even if it was a three point lead.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was a one point margin that is a massive play.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: And they had Ryan, they had the, okay, feel go block, boy, we talked about this and after I'm a freshman, I remember he, they had all these plays going in their favorite, the punch out, the, just a stack of plays that kind of just went in Oklahoma's favorite, and they're up by three, and you know what I said?
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: I said, it kind of feels like Oklahoma shot every bullet in its gun.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure they have enough for the second F. And for the second game in a row that proved me wrong.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: I was sitting there writing, I'll be honest with you guys.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is how we do, you know, trying to get out of here at a decent hour.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: I was sitting here writing my story for paragraphs that Oklahoma had the lead, but Alabama came back in one of the game.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the same as two weeks ago, I was like writing and I was like, maybe I should stop now because Oklahoma's got the lead again.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: I thought they're, yeah, I just felt like there was so much self-inflicted from Alabama on the first half that I felt like the luck would have to turn at some point.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: Bambal would start playing better football and it's not necessarily that they didn't.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't as turnover prone and they made fewer mistakes in the second half, but the OU defense was just that light out at the end of the game that even though Bambal wasn't shooting itself in its own foot as often, they still weren't able to win just because of how good the defense and special teams were.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and before you guys start gloating and point your finger and saying, Ha Ha Hoover, they really showed you the happens to me every week.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't matter what I'm covering, what's going on, I once covered a hockey team.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: That was up for nothing with like eight minutes to go and I wrote the story and the other team came back scored four goals in the final eight minutes and one in like three over time.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_03]: That just sounds like a fantastic game.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: It was a fantastic game, the whole team lost.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: But the boys, the boys, the boys, the boy came.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, you know, here's what happened in the boys at Logan.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, nope, delete that.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so here's what happened.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: Nope, delete that.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: So here's nope delete that too.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_03]: I just want you guys to know that happens.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_03]: This is some history something.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_03]: Only on a Oklahoma beats Alabama.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_03]: Monument to win could John Hoover bring up Boisie stay only John to make it.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: Let's call it what it is, man.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: We, and a lot of other people, a lot of other podcasters, a lot of other broadcasters, a lot of other writers, have given brim animals in this program a hard time.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: Me as much as anyone, me as much as anyone, and you as much as anyone.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: Because they go 6 and 7.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: They've made a habit out of going 6 and 7.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: Guess what?
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: Not this year.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: This team special, the defense is damn special.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: And they maybe they've got a special quarterback in a special kicker.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: Guys who can make plays at the right times, and they're going to get, um,
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: the tourist marshal pick six.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying this team's going to win an national championship.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying you look back at moments in all your history.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: Suitar magic crops up and the backup defensive end blocks the field go with his ring finger, right?
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: Suitar magic pops up and these things happen and we look back at him and say, oh yeah, that doesn't happen.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: No, both crap.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: We thought they were going to lose this game.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, you picked.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: I picked up all of them and I was pretty.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: We thought they would lose.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, it was, here's what I think, and this is by far, biggest one of the bright venibles, uh, oh, had coaching career, uh, Oklahoma first since, at least since last week.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we'll be back to back.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get there in a second.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_03]: Highest ranked road wins since the 2017 game at Ohio State.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that it started at New and Stadium.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_03]: And it probably started in the lead up to New and Stadium.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_03]: But coming out of that game and something that I told you guys certainly as we were heading to a by week that I thought the moment
- 36:43[SPEAKER_03]: And not even the moment, but the thing that had made me take a step back and go has brick thenables truly turned the corner was the story that you wrote after the Tennessee game John, which is, brick gives a big long post game interview, who's normal post game interview to OERATIO and the big theme of it is when is it not enough?
- 37:03[SPEAKER_03]: At what point do we get the hell out of our own way and go win the football game?
- 37:09[SPEAKER_03]: At what point do we understand football's not a perfect game?
- 37:13[SPEAKER_03]: No one plays four quarters of perfection.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_03]: You have to find a way to overcome rally, whatever.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what's been missing, right?
- 37:22[SPEAKER_03]: Because all the way back to, let's play.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_03]: And you can talk about last year if there were a ton of injuries, so let's set that one aside.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_03]: But you go back to his first year.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_03]: At what point was enough enough when you race out to the hugely against Texas tag and throw it all away?
- 37:36[SPEAKER_03]: When you have moments against Baylor and you throw it all away.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: When you have moments early, it's Kansas State and then you can't stop throwing it.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_03]: At what point against Kansas in 2023 when
- 37:47[SPEAKER_03]: You have the, you overcome the pick six early.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_03]: You have all the weather, all that stuff.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_03]: Ethan Downs gets the interception that should a one needs a football game and you don't.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_03]: Same thing, you get the turnover that should have happened and still water that should have, that did happen that should have won you the game.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_03]: And then you don't.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_03]: That's been my biggest,
- 38:03[SPEAKER_03]: worry about the direct all that stuff.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: When is it not for that one?
- 38:07[SPEAKER_03]: That's what breakmanable said against Tennessee.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_03]: And well, he said it again today.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, it looks ten.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_01]: The players said today, he actually brought it up after the old misgame, meaning I guess in the post game or maybe in the Monday or Sunday after the end.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_01]: In the lead up from Ole Miss to Tennessee, right?
- 38:22[SPEAKER_01]: They had just lost Ole Miss at home and, you know, who told me that today?
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: Tate Sandal.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: breaks the top off and says yeah, you can build around him in 2026 as I said Columbia coach comes out and says when is enough enough David Stone talked about it as well.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: We asked him several times about the t-shirt, you know, on the front hard kill and on the back when is enough or no enough is enough.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and these are themes that this team I said at the top is a reflection of a Ted coach.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: tough hard to kill, think about some of the things that Brent has been through personally and professionally.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_01]: All right, can we go in?
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, okay, let's do it.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, his wife, Julie, 30 years, 30 years together, 28 years, right, 1997, almost 30 years together, 30 years ago, breast cancer.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: She's fighting through it, he's fighting through it, the kids are fighting through it.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: Think about that.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: Secondly, his...
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: He hires a friend, right, who is a pretty accomplished coach and a noted offensive coordinator, hires him as a Gia, or not a Gia, uh, offensive, and then promote Seth Latrell, the following year after Jeff LeBee leaves, two head coach, I'm so sorry.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: promotes settler tread off in some corner.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: Then what happens settler tread lays a big fed egg, rotten stinky egg for that offense.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_01]: He has to fire a guy who played for him, OK?
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: Who coached under him, who has been in the complex coach, has been a long time for him, and he has to do that.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: This patch, obviously, two out of three times, he's been a head coach.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: Brent Vennables has taken Oklahoma to a six and seven record.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody's done that since.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_01]: John Blake, 98, boom, so there we're got.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: And then the other thing is, you know what, going into this year, they can say it was for NIL, they can say it was for the players, that's fine.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's not even one label, that's very magnet.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was Brent Metables had to get back a million dollars of his seven million dollar contract.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: All those things happened to Brent.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what?
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's got his best team so far as four years as a head coach.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: Why is that?
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: Because he's tough, he's gritty, he's small-town Kansas, right?
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: He used to stop and steal corn on the way to the Nebraska game.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this guy has got to make up of somebody who just gets punched and punched and punched and maybe hit below the belt a couple times and he just keeps coming at you.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: He just keeps coming at you in that.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: Characteristic that trait has been taken on number one by his defense, but I think overall by the team Well, it's taken a few years, right?
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: Is that's when we talked about as as been our vocalized him about it tonight.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: The example Brent sense as Sets as the head coach.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: He said it's a culture
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: Brit has done an amazing job of establishing this culture at Oklahoma.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_03]: It's finally come all the way through, because that's something that last year and this is a popular friend, why?
- 41:15[SPEAKER_03]: Because I was texty to people as well.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_03]: The culture's great.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_03]: OK, yeah, when you're 6 and 7, nobody cares about culture.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_03]: But it'll say that at the podium, right?
- 41:22[SPEAKER_03]: Brit noodles would say it.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_03]: I know that you guys don't care about it.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_03]: I get it.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_03]: I do.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_03]: And it's something that when he was hired, we didn't know what to expect.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_03]: Because
- 41:32[SPEAKER_03]: hiring head coaches is maybe one of the most difficult.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_03]: It's more difficult than finding a quarterback at times.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_03]: But we thought that it was going to be a prepared discipline football team.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_03]: And at times, the penalties have been bad.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_03]: And I know that if you don't look at the penalties this year, the kind of middle they're on the SEC, but it feels like every penalty is this massive, incredible how did this happen on a massive dirt down something?
- 41:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's taken some time.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but you've gotten to a deep-ends that looks like it's prepared for everything that's thrown at it except for a Titan Yeah, it looks like it is Oh, resilient.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's overcoming.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's gritty all that stuff.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's taken four years, but kneeling and Tuscaloosa you're finally seeing a football team that is truly embodying
- 42:14[SPEAKER_03]: the character of its coach and that's why I go all the way back to one of the stuff and stuff because Carson that this is not a really good defensive coordinator that you hired that was like a really good DC like Illinois for years and years and years and it's like hey his defenses are great but what did that get you know when the big tinted it's a guy with national championship pedigree and multiple stops it's a guy that's had elite defenses at multiple stops it's a guy that's worked under Bill Snyder Bob Stoops dabble sueney
- 42:38[SPEAKER_03]: all guys who have too many rings to put on their fingers and are going into the hall of fumes and it is tough.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_03]: This is not a guy Carson that we knew it wasn't necessarily him.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_03]: He knows how to win at this level.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_03]: We just didn't know if he knew it to win at this level as I had coach.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_03]: but what is enough enough is not necessarily the coach, the players are reflecting that.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I mean, we've talked about this before how the BRIT venables teams are just the 180 flip from what OU was, Baker Mayfield, Calermary, Jalen Hurts, I mean, it's finally flipped and you're seeing similar successes those quarterbacks have though.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the last few years, OU fans would have just given up everything to have an 11 and two season.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: Lose in the semifinals of the college football playoff.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: At the very least, that's an attainable reality, and who's to say the offense isn't going to get a whole heck of a lot better with Ben Arbuckle.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's received, I think, a fair amount of praise, maybe some of it fair, maybe some of it not, but I think he's someone that can really turn this offense into something it's not at the moment.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: But here's obviously we've seen his potential.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: The offense is going to get better if they give it time, and that's got to be so encouraging with how dang good this defense is.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think it really can carry them to being in the mix at least for titles, which all of us at some point were probably skeptical about me a couple weeks ago, admittedly.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_03]: Now, let's spin this forward real quick guys before we wrap up shop and the great Jesse Critton has been waiting here.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_03]: He's waited through us podcast and he's waited through potentially a raccoon running up and down over our heads.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what's happened there.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_03]: but you say it caused a lot of playoff.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_03]: Why?
- 44:18[SPEAKER_03]: Because Oklahoma, it holds its destiny as a chance.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_03]: That was the fact coming into today's game.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_03]: It is still the fact coming out of it, Texas gets run by the Georgia Bulldogs.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_03]: So at the very least, let's be the most cynical watchers of the CFP and all that stuff.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_03]: Texas will bounce down, Oklahoma, who was the lathe.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_03]: the first team projected to be left out of the bracket because of G5 at ACC champ they'll move up to at least 10.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_03]: Then you look this win today.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_03]: This win based off of just rankings is in the argument for one of the best wins in college football this season.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_03]: You got Alabama's win over Georgia.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_03]: You've had there with the Ole Miss.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_03]: Victory there.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean just strictly based on they are the highest ranked team with a loss I mean I don't think you can then and for to stay I think you would say they have the best wins Yeah, like you look at it.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's either, you know, over Alabama I'll never judge a Georgia or Ole Miss.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_03]: Like whatever that like circle of pointing 100% those are the best wins in college football.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yes season that you put up there
- 45:19[SPEAKER_03]: And then you add Indian over Oregon in there as well.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Oklahoma hats that they had that gold star on their resume They had the gold star of what are your losses?
- 45:27[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Ole Miss boom.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_03]: That's gonna be a good boss Texas though They lost today Texas darkness is like Korean out or anything like that.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_03]: Michigan was able to avoid disaster against Northwestern Oklahoma is gonna be at least
- 45:39[SPEAKER_03]: 10.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to have potential to jump.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_03]: You just have to get to 8 to not just be in the contract with a playoff, but host a home conference with a playoff game.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_03]: And boy 10, I don't know.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_03]: So, is it low?
- 45:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, at the bottom end, at the bottom end, the most cynical ranking you just bang taxes out in cytochol up one to him.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_03]: I think that they're going to jump Notre Dame in Oregon this weekend.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_03]: And Alabama, maybe not Notre Dame, because Notre Dame, they can be using the love Notre Dame.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_03]: But I think that it's here's the thing that, oh, like,
- 46:13[SPEAKER_03]: No today my Oklahoma may just slide up over Oregon.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_03]: What are they going to do with Alabama?
- 46:17[SPEAKER_03]: The committee is shown that if we think you're similar we're going to put you they've done head to head if you're like really really close now it's not perfect up in some of the rankings like Miami Louisville, but to with the head to head.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean yeah, we can be looking at Oklahoma moving up to maybe eight.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's possible.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if they jump Oregon quite, Oregon doesn't have the strong.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean they won when Penn State was still a competent football team and happy value, but they don't have a win over BAMA.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Oregon doesn't have any good wins.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_03]: No, that's true.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_03]: so so it'll be it'll be interesting to end uh U.S.C.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_03]: and Oregon have the big game next week Washington will not a great football team could still be up in an appeal for Oregon.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_03]: I don't really see another banana pill for another day and I'll have it pits out of the way you know but uh we saw with Texas A&M that was able to
- 47:09[SPEAKER_03]: Bill is much chaos and disaster is possible to avoid it.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was the inverse Aggie today.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_00]: Usually they start the games great and in them horribly today they found a way that's a whole other tangent.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: Elco he seems to be doing something very similar to Brent Vennables, finding ways to win, but that's a whole I could talk for too long about that and we're not going to do that tonight.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_03]: I just bring that up just to say that when you look up in the top three, it while it's been really, really steady and solid.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_03]: It's like these are your three and argue about how you put those two.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: All three of the undefeated can lose.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_03]: Not impenetrable by anything.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_03]: So it's a spot where I think that when you look at the totality of Oklahoma beating Alabama and when they you look around in the Ole Miss win, just keeps getting your loss.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_00]: Get it in and you have a chance.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: I firmly believe that.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I want you to get to the SEC the quality of loss matters.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think that I told you guys, I thought it was more likely
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: that Oklahoma hosts a playoff game.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_03]: that Oklahoma makes the CFP but's heading on the road because that to me means that they came in today.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_03]: One, and that vaults him up, and it'll be really, really fascinating to see on Tuesday night with the committee sets.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_03]: And the committee might look at Oklahoma differently now that Mac road is off.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, that's true.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: Did we have?
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to remember there.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I'd dream this.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: There was a conversation that was seemed to be happening at some point in the vehicle in which we drove up yesterday.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: Where someone said, Oklahoma could beat Alabama?
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: and then screw around and lose to Missouri.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to name who that was because my memory is a little faulty, but he's got headphones on right now and he's not listening to this which is great.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: You can catch this on the seat.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: You can catch this on the podcast and catch me outside after that.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: No, but listen.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: Eight and two, like Brent said, nobody's handing out any trophies for eight and two.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: Eight and two is not what Oklahoma rolls the
- 48:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma plays to win national championships, they're in position right now guys to go to an old these last two games And get in the play off and like you said anything can happen to the play off especially with this defense and and is is there anybody in And in college football right now That would anybody we talked about the top three any of those top three or anybody else that said that watches this game tonight and the one in Knoxville and says Oklahoma
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: bring them on well yeah we'd love to play Oklahoma's defense is there anybody out there who's has that attitude right now though they're they're all looking at Oklahoma going oh boy oh boy they look like the best defense of the country and that's when you back right now let's just call it confirmed it's been confirmed Oklahoma has the best defense of the country we'll get uh we'll send all of our royalties who out of savage and Jamie Heinemann for that it's very exciting you look at it Tuesday but
- 49:55[SPEAKER_03]: The story of this week is going to be a Missouri beat Mississippi State 49 to 27 tonight.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_03]: A big, big, big rushing attack for Missouri.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: I know they've got the back of quarterback and LSU.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_03]: We look like they might have the Q word out.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_03]: They were able to survive against Arkansas things like that.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_03]: I set it in my takeaways.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to have to successfully complete the Tiger 2 step here to get to everywhere that they want to go.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_03]: And on paper, they're not the two games we thought it was going to be.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_03]: When the schedule, we're looking at it in June and breaking it down.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_03]: Games you should win, yes.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_03]: But I can't wait to see.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_03]: It was a great atmosphere here today, Carson, so I seem like it.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_03]: I can't wait to hear that roar as the suitors take the field
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: Gail and family Oklahoma's team is going to be absolutely bumping the next two weeks.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_03]: They've earned a lot of fan support and they've got three home games left.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_03]: If the cards play there.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no it.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be fun.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_03]: Not free to anyone that has to get into the stadium but sorry.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully the weather's better than it was the last time there was an 11am kick in Norman, but I mean this this team has earned the crowd support and I think against a traditional big 12 rival a good defense I think people know the stakes of this game that we just spent.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know almost an hour talking about it's gonna be a big one so I'm excited
- 51:16[SPEAKER_03]: One of the big talking points for a couple years ago, and actually, you go back to not this past off season, but the first off season, you come to the SEC, before all the injuries point everything.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_03]: One of the big tight ones for Brett Vittables was like, how do we handle success?
- 51:27[SPEAKER_03]: Learning all that stuff.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's gonna be put in the action this week, but I guarantee you, those are questions, Brett Vittables is happy to feel this week.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think those are questions, so come off ends are happy to sit through this week, because the suitors are rocking and rolling in a fantastic spot, following their 23, 21 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant,
- 51:46[SPEAKER_03]: All of our coverage, Oklahoma students, onside.com, be sure you had their who's triggered a couple of stories.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_03]: I got a couple of stories when we get in the car, we'll be having more stories that we got the PFF stuff.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_03]: That's all up.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_01]: But before we focus, it's already up.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_01]: We got it.
