- 2:32but most of all, we're gonna have the conversation. I just want to
- 2:38welcome you. I want to say thank you for tuning in. I want
- 2:43to say thank you to the Diva herself, Miss Angela Smith Thomas, for
- 2:49even allowing me to be on this platform and sharing. And we're just gonna
- 2:53get right into it. But I do have a disclaimer for y'all, and
- 2:58I'm gonna tell you this. As I said, we're gonna talk about any
- 3:01and everything, and I want you to understand this. Some of us may
- 3:07talk, we may talk about topics that are sensitive to each other, sensitive
- 3:12to things that's going on in this world. But this is a safe place.
- 3:16This is a place where everyone is welcome. Everyone has to have an
- 3:22open mind. And I'm gonna say this. I love the Lord, I
- 3:25love him with everything in me, but sometimes I may not say stuff that's
- 3:30gonna agree with all all of y'all. So as I say things that may
- 3:34not agree with y'all, and y'all may have things that you may not agree
- 3:37with me. But we're gonna come and have a conversation and we're gonna chat
- 3:40and we're gonna we're gonna do this thing. So we're gonna get right into
- 3:45it. We're gonna get to the meet to the Jews, because I know
- 3:49everybody is curious as to why I decided to go ahead and do this podcast.
- 3:58So a little bit about let's chat with nat I'm a Brooklyn girl,
- 4:02I'm a New Yorker, but I'm with Caribbean roots, and you know,
- 4:08being anyone that has roots from anywhere, you get to understand who you are,
- 4:13You get to know, you get to understand your purpose. But sometimes
- 4:16it takes us a minute to get to that point. And for me,
- 4:20it took me a long time. But what really started me on this journey
- 4:26was right in my first self published book called Natalia's Words of Wisdom, Volume
- 4:31one. Finding my way and just being in that book took me. I'm
- 4:38gonna be honest with y'all. It took me twelve years to write. Why
- 4:42it took me twelve years to write I don't know? Well I do know,
- 4:46and I'm gonna just be real with all of y'all. It took me
- 4:48twelve years to write because I wasn't ready. I thought I was ready,
- 4:53but I really wasn't ready to tell my story. But then I kept seeing
- 4:58things around me and people around me, and it was like, nah,
- 5:01you got a story to tell. You've been here, you were your single
- 5:05mom, I've raised two gorgeous enhancesome young men that I'm proud to say one
- 5:12is in college, one is getting ready to go to college soon. And
- 5:15I did that with the help of my family and extended friends. But you
- 5:20know, it wasn't always easy. Then. I've experienced things in life.
- 5:25I'm a cancer survivor. A matter of fact, I'm a nine year cancer
- 5:28survivor. And that's not easy to do. That's not easy to beat,
- 5:32especially as a black woman, a woman raising kids on her own, that's
- 5:40not easy. I have been through a lot in life and write in my
- 5:46book being able to go through certain things. That's what gave me the unction
- 5:53and the gusto and a lot of very well. When I say support work,
- 6:00sometimes I would be up at night and I'm writing and I'll get pissed
- 6:03off. And y'all know when we get pissed off, we don't want to
- 6:06hear nobody. And I would get pissed off. But then what I would
- 6:10text or somebody would send me a message and be like, keep going,
- 6:14you got a story to tell. You gotta do this, you gotta walk
- 6:16in your calling. So that's where this all started from, just with that
- 6:24one little book called Natalia's Words or Wisdom and then I got the opportunity to
- 6:30be featured in a magazine, and that opportunity came with again My Lovely I
- 6:40Love Her Daily, Angela Smith Thomas. And with that magazine opportunity came,
- 6:46she said, well, why don't you go ahead and come and join us
- 6:49and do your podcast. She was like, girl, you got a story
- 6:53to tell. You got a voice out here that needs to be heard.
- 6:56And now I was like, I don't know, I don't know. I
- 6:57don't know, I don't know. You know how we are, you know
- 6:59how we come on y'all, y'all know how we are. We procrastinated and
- 7:03sometimes I can be a big procrastinator. But I sat down and I thought
- 7:10about it, and I was like, you know what, I'm gonna do
- 7:13this. And when she said you're gonna be ready, she said, a
- 7:15matter of fact, you're not that you're ready. You're gonna do this.
- 7:19And sometimes we just need that push to say we're gonna do it. No
- 7:25matter how much we want to fight it, we have to do it.
- 7:29Sometimes people are out here and they see what we don't want to see.
- 7:33So that's when we came where we're at right now and have this little let
- 7:38chat with not and we're gonna talk about a whole lot of things. We're
- 7:45gonna talk about against being single parents, being black people in this society.
- 7:51We're gonna talk about dealing with parents with substance abuse. It's something I know
- 7:58well about. We're gonna talk about out dating. That's something I know well
- 8:03about too, and all of us know well about. We're gonna talk about
- 8:07being able to start your own business. And I'm also gonna feature other other
- 8:13authors and artists and people that's doing things for their community. But the main
- 8:18thing is that we're just gonna talk and we're gonna talk about it, and
- 8:24whether we like it or not, we're gonna love on each other after we
- 8:26talk about it, because that's what we do. We a family. When
- 8:31you sit with your family, you chitchat all day long, because I know
- 8:33I do it with my family and my friends. We chit chat, we
- 8:37laugh, we cuss, we carry on, we cry, but at the
- 8:41end of the day, we have that conversation that's needed. So I'm gonna
- 8:46take a little short commercial break, I'm gonna come back and I'm gonna discuss
- 8:52some more stuff with you, and if you wanna, you wanna come in
- 8:56and talk. We could do that. So we're gonna have that that time,
- 9:01all right, So we'll be right back in in a few seconds.
- 9:15Authors, here's your chance to get to your work seen across the world.
- 9:20Be a part of our fifties United Authors of Aspiring Authors. Man, here's
- 9:26your chance to have your your and your work to the broadcast through our fo
- 9:33world. Yeah, so we are back. We are back. Um.
- 9:43Something that I want to discuss tonight, and it's basically walking in your purpose.
- 9:48And you know a few minutes ago when we started, I talked about
- 9:52how sometimes we don't want to walk in our purpose. We don't we we
- 9:58think that we're not ready to do it, or we procrastinate on doing it.
- 10:03But I want us, I want to talk to you guys. I
- 10:07want us to have the conversation because sometimes we are our own biggest enemy and
- 10:11we hinder ourselves from getting to where we want to be. And you know,
- 10:16for me, I dealt with that for a very very long time.
- 10:20And that's not just we're writing my book. That's just in my personal life.
- 10:24You know, I've seen people around me that we all went through where
- 10:28we procrastinated, We procrastinated and then when we finally say, okay, it's
- 10:33time, I'm gonna do it, and we actually sit down and do what
- 10:39it is that we've been procrastinating about. When it's all said and done,
- 10:45the pride that you feel when you know that you accomplish a task that you've
- 10:50been wanting to do and you didn't know how. And I'm you know,
- 10:56I can honestly say that there's a lot of things that I know how to
- 11:01do, and for some of you, there's a lot of things that you
- 11:03may know how to do. But then there's that one thing that you have
- 11:11the passion for, and that is the thing where you're light, I don't
- 11:16know, I don't know. And it's when you have those I don't know
- 11:20moments, that's when you are in such a battle with yourself because you know
- 11:26that's the thing that's gonna propel you to be that voice, to be that
- 11:31light, to be where you want to be and do what you want to
- 11:35do and accomplish it. And the moment that you do that, the pride
- 11:41that you feel within yourself, you know that you're gonna be okay. And
- 11:46I had to tell myself that, Like when I sat down and I published
- 11:52my book, or even there were certain jobs that I went out for and
- 11:56I applied for, or even with my kids, there were certain things that
- 12:01we went through and I'm sitting there and I'm thinking, well, how am
- 12:05I going to do this? And is this the right move for me?
- 12:09Is this the right move for my kids? Is this the right move for
- 12:11my family? And at the end of the day, when it all comes
- 12:15together and you're like, Wow, why did it take me so long to
- 12:20do this? Why did I procrastinate? You know, we got to start
- 12:28conditioning ourselves. And it's all about conditioning. It's all about self control.
- 12:33It's all about how we view ourselves and not just how we view ourselves.
- 12:39But we always want to think about what others have to say, and that's
- 12:43the big problem. Sometimes we have to stop thinking about what others have to
- 12:46say and just block all that extra noise out and do what we have to
- 12:52do for ourselves, because at the end of the day, there's only two
- 12:54people that you're going to please, and that's whoever you're creative, is whoever
- 13:01you serve, whether you're a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddha and yourself,
- 13:07you are the one that is or who is going to at the end
- 13:11of the day, you're going to be the most prideful and feel so proud
- 13:16that you did this because you can see where your struggle came from. You
- 13:22can see how you you the different hurdles that you went through, and then
- 13:30how you came out on top. And you know it's it's I'm not trying
- 13:35to say that it's easy, because by far it is not easy. But
- 13:39when you do put your mind and you put your heart into it and you
- 13:45say I'm gonna do this, there's nothing that can turn you around. There's
- 13:48nothing that can stop you. Nobody but yourself can stop you. And again,
- 13:54we have to be able to stop self sabotaging us as people, as
- 14:01women, women, we do that a lot. We self sabotage. I'm
- 14:05gonna tell on myself, and I know there's a lot of y'all out there
- 14:07to do it. We self sabotage a lot and for the wrong things,
- 14:13and we put our energy into the wrong things instead of putting our energy into
- 14:18the things that are gonna bring us the most joy. So I want you
- 14:22all, at the end of the day, whatever it is that you want
- 14:26to do, whatever it is that you want to accomplish get rid of that
- 14:33self sabotage and mentality. It has to go. It cannot stay in your
- 14:39existence, It cannot stay in your being because the moment that it continues to
- 14:43stay there, you're going to take longer or you may not get to where
- 14:48you want to be. And and you are your You are the change.
- 14:54I always hear angelas say we are the change, and that's so true.
- 14:58You are the chang. You are the one that's going to be able to
- 15:01change your situation and change your circumstances. And if you because if you don't
- 15:07do it, nobody else is going to do it. And if people don't
- 15:11see that you mean what you say, and you say what you mean,
- 15:15nobody's gonna take you seriously. This has been a lot of people that I
- 15:18over the years, I've said, oh, I'm gonna do this, I'm
- 15:20gonna do that, I'm gonna do third, and they didn't take me seriously
- 15:24until they saw that I started to put the work in. And sometimes we
- 15:28gotta keep our mouth shut and not say everything. We have to move in
- 15:33silence. And when you start moving in silence, that's when things start.
- 15:39The pieces of the puzzle, the building blocks, they start coming together.
- 15:43Because when you say, oh, I'm gonna do this and you don't do
- 15:46it, somebody's gonna look at you and say, well, I thought you
- 15:50said you was gonna do this. There's been plenty of times that I've heard
- 15:54in my own life people said to me because I've said I'm gonna do X,
- 15:56Y and Z and have said, well, I thought you was gonna
- 16:02do this, and I'm like, yeah, I am, but I procrastinated.
- 16:07I took my time. But then when I blocked out the noise and
- 16:14I put into my mind that you know what, I'm not doing this for
- 16:17nobody but for me, and at the end of the day, it's to
- 16:22make me happy, and it's to be who I want to be, be
- 16:25the woman that I want to be. It was smooth sailing from there.
- 16:30There was nothing that was gonna stop me. There was nobody that was gonna
- 16:33stop me. And I dared any devil in hell to come in front of
- 16:37me and stop me, because the moment that they tried that, they're gonna
- 16:38get a fight. And I love a good fight. So you have to
- 16:44be willing to fight for yourself. You have to be willing to go ahead
- 16:48and go blow the blow with that devil that you've been fighting with, because
- 16:52we're all fighting with a devil, we're all fighting with our own personal demons.
- 16:57And the moment that we say we had enough and we're not going to
- 17:00put up with it anymore, that's when you start seeing your blessings. That's
- 17:07when you start seeing who you are. You know, I'm forty one.
- 17:11I'll be forty two this year, and I've said to a lot of people,
- 17:18I think this year and not just this year, but since I've entered
- 17:22into my forties, a lot of the things that I couldn't do in my
- 17:26teens and my twenties, my thirties, I see that now I'm able to
- 17:33do it. I'm able to walk into my truth. And it took me
- 17:37a long time. And when I say a long time, I mean a
- 17:41long time to walk in my truth. Walking in your truth is not easy
- 17:45to do, especially when you don't quite understand what that truth is. When
- 17:52you don't understand what that truth is, it bothers you. It plays with
- 17:56your mind, It plays with your mental and sometimes it's hard to talk to
- 18:03people because you don't know if people are gonna understand where you're coming from.
- 18:08For me, that was my issue. I felt like not too many people,
- 18:15and a lot of it, A lot of people may have been family
- 18:18or friends. I felt as though they didn't understand where I was coming from.
- 18:23They didn't understand that the person that I envisioned in my mind, that
- 18:29I saw who I knew I wanted to be. I don't think that they
- 18:33understood it because, and there's a lot of things that play into it.
- 18:38Generations. We're in a different generation than our parents, We're in a different
- 18:45generation than even our grandparents, and sometimes that generation they don't understand. You
- 18:53know, I'm fortunate that I have. I was blessed to be raised by
- 19:02four of the most amazing grandparents too that I have alive today still that are
- 19:08eighty seven and eighty four. And I tell people, especially when it comes
- 19:15to my grandmother, I identified with her and I understood she understood me,
- 19:22and I understood her because even though we came from a different generation, she
- 19:27had an open mind. She didn't condemn you. She doesn't condemn you.
- 19:32And she always say, you can't condemn anybody because you don't know that path
- 19:36that they're walking in. They may not know your path and they may not
- 19:40understand their path, and you have to be able to understand and see that
- 19:45the world around you. It's not just you. There's many different people in
- 19:48this world and many different people that may not understand who they are, just
- 19:52like you don't understand who you are. And it took me a very,
- 19:57very, very long time time to get to that point, even when it
- 20:03came to my kids, you know, it took me a long time to
- 20:07have them understand that I got it, like I was a team as well.
- 20:15I was raising a single parent home. I understand what it is to
- 20:21not be sure of what today is gonna bring. But you gotta have that
- 20:26mind open to know that at the end of the day, it's gonna be
- 20:29okay. You know, you're gonna get over to the other side and you're
- 20:34going to make it, and you're gonna make it coming out like a champion,
- 20:41like a boss, like the person that you're supposed to be. You
- 20:48know, it's just it's life is funny. Life is interesting. Life is
- 20:56meant to be lived and not meant to pass you by. A lot of
- 21:02people are living, but life is passing them by, and you don't want
- 21:07to be one of those people that life is passing you by. I don't
- 21:11want to be one of those people. I refuse to be one of those
- 21:15people that life passes by. You know, I always say I've been given
- 21:22a second chance at life. Last week Sunday, I mean my nine year
- 21:26cancer remission anniversary, And I always say whenever this time, that time of
- 21:30the year come up, I always remember where I was during that time mentally
- 21:37and physically. I wasn't in a good place. I was not in a
- 21:41good place, and it took a lot to come out of that place.
- 21:45But now here I am nine years later, looking at what I am accomplishing
- 21:51and where I am. I'm proud that I had to go through those struggles
- 21:56because it made me stronger. When you are able to accept your struggles,
- 22:03when you are able to accept that it wasn't always you didn't always do it
- 22:10right, you are one of those that are fortunate enough to say I get
- 22:15it, I understand, and I processed it, and now I know where
- 22:22I'm going. So as I start to wrap up tonight show, I want
- 22:29you guys to just you know, we talked about a lot, we covered
- 22:32a lot of things, but I want you guys to be able to know
- 22:36at the end of the day, whatever your purpose is, live it.
- 22:41Don't just say I want to do it. Don't just say, oh,
- 22:45I'm gonna get to it. Because there's many people that have said they wanted
- 22:48to get to something and they never got to do it. Don't be one
- 22:52of those people. Be one of the people that you know what you take
- 22:57your book or your phone. You know, we live in an age where
- 23:00our phones are constantly in our hands. In each phone, whether it's an
- 23:03eyePhone and our android, we have no pads. Write down what it is
- 23:07that you want to do, and try every day to make strides into accomplishing
- 23:18that task. Because if you just sit there and let let your dreams just
- 23:22stay there, you're never gonna get accomplished. You're never going to fulfill what
- 23:29it is that you want to fulfill. Don't be that person. Be that
- 23:33person that says, I did it, I did it my way, I
- 23:36did it the best way that I knew how, and I did it with
- 23:40the help of whomever it and and you know you're gonna hear me say this
- 23:45often because I include everybody. This is an inclusive platform, and you know,
- 23:52I know there's again I know, there's people that are Christians, people
- 23:53that are Muslim, people that are from Jewish, people from all different walks
- 23:59of life. That's gonna be Tune it in whomever it is that you believe
- 24:03in, Use that as your guide, Use that as who you rely on
- 24:10to get your strength, because without that strength, you're not always gonna be
- 24:15able. You're gonna feel weak at times. And when you need that extra
- 24:19oh, you need the extra push. Whoever it is that you rely on,
- 24:25go to them, Go to that source, because that's the source that's
- 24:30gonna get you through and get you to where you want to be in life.
- 24:34So if you want to come in to the chat, to the studio,
- 24:38we're welcoming you in. You know, I'm so proud, I'm so
- 24:45glad that this platform is here. I'm glad that this first episode is here,
- 24:52because this is history in the making. We start here and we go
- 24:57on, we go further. You know, this this is my This is
- 25:00a stepping stall. You can't get anywhere without having a stepping stall. And
- 25:07I'm proud. I'm proud that this is something that my sons and my grandkids
- 25:12whenever I get grandkids, can look back at and say oh wow, you
- 25:17know my mom did this, my grandmother did this. They can go back
- 25:22in and replay and see who who you know, who their ancestor was.
- 25:27And that's something else that we're gonna talk about during this season. It's so
- 25:32much that we're gonna accomplish and we're gonna talk about this season that it's just
- 25:36gonna put us in such a better place than we were when we first started.
- 25:42There's so much in us, so much that we need to know as
- 25:47people, and we're gonna get there. We're gonna do this thing. It's
- 25:52gonna be all right. We're gonna have these conversations. Sometimes we may not
- 25:56like the conversations. Sometimes we're making a kiki out of it, but we're
- 26:03here. This is what we do. This is what we're gonna do.
- 26:06We're gonna chat it up, and we're gonna chat it up all the time,
- 26:10because why if you know me, well, you know I love me
- 26:14a good old chat. I love to chit chat all day long. And
- 26:18that's what we're gonna do. So I want to say thank you and I'll
- 26:23see you next time. If you have any topics that you want to talk
- 26:27about, send me a message, send us a DM and we'll talk about
- 26:33it. There's no topic that's off limits, all right, So until next
- 26:40time, I see you soon. Bye story, and don't forget about the
- 26:51little dog. Don't matter what you're going
