- 0:00Speaker 1: Now it's time to say hello to Quentin here.
- 0:02Speaker 2: He's got the folks from Advanced Pest Solutions, and you've
- 0:06Speaker 2: got friends today.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:08Speaker 3: This is Claudette and Katie from Youth and Family Services.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Oh, good, good. How are you doing, ladies?
- 0:15Speaker 4: Doing well.
- 0:17Speaker 2: And first of all, let's tell everybody about your business
- 0:20Speaker 2: here because, you.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Know, the award winner, you know, he's humble about this. Yeah.
- 0:26Speaker 1: But tell everybody about Advanced Pest Solutions.
- 0:28Speaker 5: Well, we've been in business for about 13 years now.
- 0:31Speaker 5: I've been doing it since 1998. And, you know, we
- 0:35Speaker 5: do commercial residential stuff, mainly general pests.
- 0:39Speaker 3: We don't do wildlife. I had a guy on me
- 0:41Speaker 3: about a few weeks ago.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, we had him in there.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Mike Reynolds. So, you know, just try to help the
- 0:48Speaker 3: community as best I can.
- 0:49Speaker 5: And this is kind of why I have these nonprofits
- 0:51Speaker 5: on to kind of help the community out.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Introduce our friends.
- 0:54Speaker 3: So this is Katie.
- 0:56Speaker 5: And Claudette from Youth and Family Services.
- 1:00Speaker 3: And I'll let them tell you what they do because
- 1:02Speaker 3: I will jack that all.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Up if I.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Well, I know you've been busy. You had a big
- 1:07Speaker 2: to-do downtown a few weeks ago. Tell us a little
- 1:09Speaker 2: bit about that.
- 1:10Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:10Speaker 4: So, like you said, I'm Katie Wilson, Executive Director at
- 1:13Speaker 4: Youth and Family Services.
- 1:15Speaker 6: And it was actually in June. We had that fast.
- 1:19Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:20Speaker 4: And like you said, a nonprofit here in town, we've
- 1:22Speaker 4: been doing business for over 50 years now. And we
- 1:25Speaker 4: had a big celebration downtown, a glow run, um, at
- 1:28Speaker 4: unity squares where it started and ended in a big celebration, um,
- 1:32Speaker 4: kicking off our, you know, fundraising for our building of
- 1:35Speaker 4: our new youth shelter. So we worked on that. It
- 1:38Speaker 4: was a great turnout. There was over 350 people running, um,
- 1:42Speaker 4: Tons of people there at the event. We were super
- 1:45Speaker 4: excited about it. It was a very, very positive thing
- 1:48Speaker 4: in our community.
- 1:49Speaker 1: You know, when you tell somebody they can run in
- 1:51Speaker 1: June and it's going to be in the cool of the.
- 1:53Speaker 6: Evening, they'll show up.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Pro tip there.
- 1:58Speaker 6: It was a huge success.
- 1:59Speaker 4: We were excited. The community turned out really big for that. And, yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 4: we're going to do it again. So people need to
- 2:05Speaker 4: put that on their calendar for June 26th.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You better do it again. That was a lot of fun.
- 2:10Speaker 6: It was.
- 2:10Speaker 4: We're going to keep doing it every year because this
- 2:13Speaker 4: building is going to be an expensive one, so we
- 2:15Speaker 4: need to keep raising funds for that.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Is that the one I see being all the digging
- 2:19Speaker 1: going on out there?
- 2:20Speaker 6: We haven't started any of that.
- 2:21Speaker 4: We just started the initial stuff with the architect, and
- 2:24Speaker 4: so we're just in the very beginning phases of that.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Okay, okay.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I saw some scratching going on near where you were.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm sitting there thinking, eh, it might be a ways
- 2:32Speaker 2: of it. But this is great. Tell us a little
- 2:35Speaker 2: bit about the Youth and Family Services.
- 2:38Speaker 7: My name is Claudette Papan. I'm the accounting director there,
- 2:41Speaker 7: her right hand most of the time. I kind of
- 2:45Speaker 7: stay back, except for when it's to support her. When
- 2:48Speaker 7: you call.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Me and complain. Yes, yes, yes.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Just do that.
- 2:53Speaker 6: Only when we find spiders. Ah!
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yes, yes. We do a lot.
- 3:00Speaker 6: Counseling, we have our emergency use shelter.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 3:03Speaker 7: Domestic violence classes, DUI classes, parenting classes. We're even in
- 3:07Speaker 7: the schools teaching kids life skills.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Very good. Life skills are very, very important.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:13Speaker 2: And, you know, we were talking a bit about the
- 3:18Speaker 2: number of people you're serving right now. With this, will
- 3:21Speaker 2: this about double what you're able to do with the
- 3:25Speaker 2: new building?
- 3:26Speaker 1: It should.
- 3:26Speaker 4: It should. Right now, licensed for eight kiddos, but the
- 3:30Speaker 4: way the house is set up, a lot of times
- 3:32Speaker 4: the kiddos need to have their own rooms and should
- 3:34Speaker 4: have their own rooms just with the trauma that they've
- 3:36Speaker 4: been through, the things that they've gone through. A lot
- 3:38Speaker 4: of times that space being their own is important. So
- 3:42Speaker 4: we can only take four to five at a single time.
- 3:45Speaker 4: When we get the new shelter built, we'll have individual
- 3:48Speaker 4: rooms for each child.
- 3:50Speaker 6: It'll be great to be.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Able to build something that is going to be able
- 3:53Speaker 4: to meet their needs. A lot of our kids do
- 3:56Speaker 4: struggle with special needs. And so that makes it where
- 4:00Speaker 4: we need, you know, a lot of different things like
- 4:02Speaker 4: sensory rooms is what we call them, where they can
- 4:04Speaker 4: go and get their energy out and, you know, in
- 4:06Speaker 4: a healthy way. So things that we're going to be
- 4:08Speaker 4: building in there are going to be important to their
- 4:10Speaker 4: success in their future.
- 4:11Speaker 2: You know, when we talk about youth and family services,
- 4:15Speaker 2: people say, well, yeah, they're kids and Kids can be
- 4:18Speaker 2: a handful. So can adults. Maybe even more so than
- 4:23Speaker 2: the big kids. But with the children, it's more than
- 4:28Speaker 2: just that. There are a lot of things going on,
- 4:30Speaker 2: a lot of different factors that go into why someone
- 4:34Speaker 2: may need help or extra resources. And, you know, God
- 4:38Speaker 2: love the scientists and the doctors. They've identified quite a
- 4:41Speaker 2: few things. But sometimes just having somebody in your corner,
- 4:45Speaker 2: somebody who cares, a place to go, A place to belong.
- 4:49Speaker 2: That means so much.
- 4:51Speaker 7: It does.
- 4:51Speaker 1: That's kind of what you've got going on.
- 4:53Speaker 6: That's what we're here for, yes. That's what we're here for.
- 4:55Speaker 4: We want to, like I said, meet them at one
- 4:57Speaker 4: of the toughest times in their lives and try to
- 4:59Speaker 4: just be their support, you know, and try to get
- 5:02Speaker 4: them to maintain better in society than they have been.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Okay, that's great. Let's get back to you here for
- 5:08Speaker 2: a brief second. Spiders, she mentioned. You handle spiders, don't you?
- 5:12Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Advanced pest solutions, yes, they do. Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 5: We do both the office and the shelter, which I
- 5:19Speaker 5: don't think either one of these ladies know, but when
- 5:22Speaker 5: I was a few years.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Younger, I actually worked at the shelter.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Wow.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I worked part-time at the shelter just because I wanted to.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I had a full-time job.
- 5:31Speaker 5: They actually kind of canned me because I wouldn't take
- 5:34Speaker 5: full-time because I already had a full-time job, and they
- 5:36Speaker 5: had to replace me with a full-time.
- 5:38Speaker 3: So I guess I'm trying to get... Trying to get
- 5:40Speaker 3: back in, I guess, is what I'm doing. But, yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 3: it's an amazing thing that they do. You know, I think.
- 5:48Speaker 5: There's so many kids that are just in a bad place.
- 5:54Speaker 5: My son used to do this in Ohio, and he
- 5:57Speaker 5: said a lot of times the parents need more counseling
- 5:59Speaker 5: than the kids. That's the reason, the condition they're in.
- 6:03Speaker 3: But, like, she will call me. I think my thing is.
- 6:09Speaker 5: My business is like we work as a team. So
- 6:11Speaker 5: if she has a problem, she calls me, and I
- 6:14Speaker 5: think she knows that she's not going to get a
- 6:16Speaker 5: bad attitude. Now, she might get ribbed a little bit,
- 6:20Speaker 5: but she's not.
- 6:20Speaker 6: Going to get a bad attitude from.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Calling me because I've got to know there's a problem
- 6:25Speaker 5: that I need to take care of when I come
- 6:28Speaker 5: home or to come back and take care of it.
- 6:32Speaker 5: So everything's communication, and I think that's something they're really
- 6:35Speaker 5: good at is communicating. So it's a good fit.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Oh, indeed, indeed. And you're a great fit here in
- 6:42Speaker 1: the community. You've been here a few years. Yes.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Not you personally, but the establishment's been here for a
- 6:49Speaker 2: few years and been serving and serving well. How do
- 6:54Speaker 2: folks find out more about your services and also... maybe
- 6:59Speaker 2: just maybe if they had like a thousand dollars from
- 7:01Speaker 2: their pocket and they're like going gee i wonder where
- 7:03Speaker 2: this would do the most good how do they get
- 7:06Speaker 2: a hold of you there you go i got.
- 7:08Speaker 4: An idea so social media and our website is the
- 7:12Speaker 4: best place we are on facebook and then our website www.youthandfamilyinc.com
- 7:18Speaker 4: is where they can go and all of our you
- 7:19Speaker 4: know ways to donate and all of our resources are
- 7:22Speaker 4: on there so they can go go there and get
- 7:25Speaker 4: hooked up with helping us. And they can definitely just
- 7:27Speaker 4: call the office as well. They can call me. I
- 7:30Speaker 4: can answer any questions or anything they want to do
- 7:33Speaker 4: to help.
- 7:35Speaker 2: And when it comes to dealing with children, is this
- 7:39Speaker 2: on referral basis? Or how do children get into your pipelines?
- 7:45Speaker 4: As far as the shelter goes, most of our kiddos
- 7:47Speaker 4: there are referred by DHS or OJ, but there are
- 7:52Speaker 4: some community kids that we get to say, like just
- 7:55Speaker 4: an example, we had, you know, an emergency come up
- 7:57Speaker 4: with a mom who couldn't take care of her kids
- 7:59Speaker 4: because she was going to have emergency surgery and there
- 8:01Speaker 4: was nobody else to take care of. And so we
- 8:04Speaker 4: got them into our shelter, got them, you know, taken
- 8:07Speaker 4: care of for a few days until mom could get
- 8:09Speaker 4: out and get better.
- 8:09Speaker 6: And that's what we're here for.
- 8:11Speaker 4: You know, those kinds of situations, kids shouldn't be left
- 8:13Speaker 4: obviously with nothing.
- 8:15Speaker 6: So we, we took them in, took care of them.
- 8:17Speaker 4: So we do get some community, you know, situations like
- 8:20Speaker 4: that or runaway youth, um, that might not be safe
- 8:23Speaker 4: back in their home with other siblings, things like that.
- 8:25Speaker 4: And then as far as our services at the office, um,
- 8:28Speaker 4: people can just call, but doctors do refer, schools refer, um, police,
- 8:33Speaker 4: that kind of thing.
- 8:34Speaker 6: So we do take, um, from both ends.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Um, When it comes to working in this line of work,
- 8:41Speaker 2: it's not for everybody. I mean, I think everyone who
- 8:45Speaker 2: has a beating heart says every child deserves the best.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Every child deserves a chance. Every child deserves care. But
- 8:54Speaker 2: not everybody can actually do that beyond what they have
- 8:59Speaker 2: going on in their own home. It takes kind of
- 9:01Speaker 2: a special heart to be a part of this.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Doesn't it?
- 9:03Speaker 6: It sure does.
- 9:04Speaker 4: I'm very grateful for the people that are working for me.
- 9:07Speaker 4: Quentin can probably tell you. I mean, it's a tough job,
- 9:10Speaker 4: but it's definitely a rewarding one. So the people, especially
- 9:13Speaker 4: at the shelter that are taking care of these kids 24-7, they're.
- 9:16Speaker 6: Some amazing human beings that really.
- 9:19Speaker 4: really care about youth and putting in the work and
- 9:21Speaker 4: the care and the love that they deserve. So we're
- 9:24Speaker 4: very grateful for the people that we have working for
- 9:27Speaker 4: us at YFS.
- 9:28Speaker 1: You ever have some of the kids kind of return
- 9:29Speaker 1: just to say hi? Oh, a lot of times. Kind
- 9:32Speaker 1: of let you know how they're doing. Yes, yeah. Isn't
- 9:34Speaker 1: that pretty cool when you get those alumni come back? Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 6: See them in the community.
- 9:38Speaker 4: I have one that I worked with for a long
- 9:40Speaker 4: time that he's at Bank First as a loan officer
- 9:42Speaker 4: and just doing amazing work. And I just, I think it's,
- 9:46Speaker 4: It's definitely rewarding when you see those success stories or
- 9:49Speaker 4: they call and say, hey, I'm doing this or that.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Just want to let you know I'm doing okay. Wow,
- 9:55Speaker 2: that is really something else. That is really something else.
- 9:58Speaker 1: And again, the website.
- 10:00Speaker 6: Www.youthandfamilyinc.com. com.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Okay, want to make sure we got that in there.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Because sometimes I get a little confused on that. Is
- 10:09Speaker 2: it a net or is it a com or is
- 10:10Speaker 2: it an org or is it a.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I don't know what. They've got so many different endings
- 10:14Speaker 1: these days.
- 10:15Speaker 7: Yes.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And where can we find you, young man?
- 10:18Speaker 5: You can find me at roachreaper.com or apestsolution.com.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I have two of them. Go to the same place.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Or you can give me a call at 918-440-8797.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Well, that is great. Advanced Pest Solutions. Award-winning, ladies and gentlemen.
- 10:35Speaker 2: You got the best of. That's pretty darn good, dude.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I appreciate it.
- 10:40Speaker 1: See, he's so humble.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Yes, to having us, for Quentin having us on. Like
- 10:44Speaker 4: you said, we can call him at any time and
- 10:46Speaker 4: anything we need. And like you said, the youth shelter,
- 10:49Speaker 4: we can't have things, you know, especially with licensing and
- 10:52Speaker 4: standards like mice.
- 10:54Speaker 6: And he's always willing to help us out and very quickly.
- 10:57Speaker 4: And we're just very grateful for everything that he does
- 11:00Speaker 4: for us and having us on here today.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 11:04Speaker 2: I want to thank you, Quentin, for always being here
- 11:07Speaker 2: and telling us about your business, but also bringing the,
- 11:10Speaker 2: I didn't know you had.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Like so darn many friends.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I don't know if they're friends or not. Plotting gives
- 11:15Speaker 3: me a hard time.
- 11:17Speaker 5: I'm kind of questioning our relationship.
- 11:22Speaker 1: We loved a kid, and we kid because we love. Exactly, exactly.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Good to know, good to know.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Good to know.
- 11:29Speaker 2: All right, thank you folks for watching and listening to
- 11:32Speaker 2: our program today on K1.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Kids today live in a world full of social pressure.
