Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: When you hit off with your mates and you just crack.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Gags, added a lot of colour, humour.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Time. He went to boss level. For barra's bits. Have
- 0:10Speaker 1: some of this. Bang. Gold's 96FM.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Hi. Good morning, sir.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Good morning, my friends. How are you? It's nice and
- 0:18Speaker 1: cool out there. A good time for running, actually. If
- 0:21Speaker 1: you do.
- 0:22Speaker 2: And there's a lot of people out, I think, doing
- 0:24Speaker 2: last-minute running for the City to Surf on Sunday.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Of course. Oh, yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 3: The road closures.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Be ready. Remember that. Coming across for a
- 0:33Speaker 1: couple of hours.
- 0:34Speaker 2: But you can sleep in because tonight the AFL's first
- 0:38Speaker 2: ever wildcard round starts.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Yep.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Do we love it? I don't know. How do you
- 0:42Speaker 1: guys feel about it?
- 0:42Speaker 2: Well, you know I've hated the bye that they've had
- 0:44Speaker 2: the last couple of years because I feel as though
- 0:46Speaker 2: it breaks the momentum.
- 0:47Speaker 1: So, yeah. Yeah. I'm for it.
- 0:50Speaker 3: I'm a bit sort of.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Why don't you like it?
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm not saying I don't like it.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I'm just ambivalent to it. You think that it should
- 0:57Speaker 3: be a direct cut of who's in the finals? It
- 0:59Speaker 3: used to be the top five and then it was
- 1:01Speaker 3: the top eight and now it's the top ten and
- 1:03Speaker 3: it's like it's only the wooden spooner who won't qualify
- 1:06Speaker 3: for the finals at some point.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Oh, I don't think it's that. I don't think it's
- 1:08Speaker 1: like give everyone a medal type of situation. I'm just
- 1:11Speaker 1: stirring you up, Lisa. I think I feel some tension here.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I think by the end of tonight, I think you'll
- 1:19Speaker 2: all be on board because it's the Bulldogs and Collingwood.
- 1:22Speaker 2: And I'm only saying that because there's going to be
- 1:24Speaker 2: 90,000 at the MCG.
- 1:26Speaker 1: That's why they're doing it. It'll be absolutely enormous. Oh,
- 1:30Speaker 1: it does fund everything, I suppose.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. The winners move into the proper finals. So the
- 1:34Speaker 2: winners move back to 7th and 8th.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Proper finals.
- 1:38Speaker 1: He even said it himself. Proper finals.
- 1:41Speaker 2: The funny thing is they may have already been in
- 1:43Speaker 2: 7th and 8th and they'll be back in 7th and 8th.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So anyway, let's talk about the Dockers Hawthorne next Thursday night.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Already sold out. World record pace it was.
- 1:52Speaker 2: A bit tricky for members too because you sort of
- 1:54Speaker 2: get used to sitting in your own seats and then
- 1:56Speaker 2: when the finals are on, you don't get them.
- 1:58Speaker 1: No, it's free for all.
- 2:00Speaker 2: And you've got to go in there and Hit refresh, refresh,
- 2:02Speaker 2: refresh all the time to try to get good tickets
- 2:05Speaker 2: and get good seats.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Very frustrating.
- 2:07Speaker 3: It's almost as hard as getting onto Roto.
- 2:10Speaker 2: You meet new people, though, in new seats, and you
- 2:13Speaker 2: discover that there are seats actually up above you as well,
- 2:16Speaker 2: so that's good. The record crowd under threat, 58,982. That's
- 2:21Speaker 2: the Dockers' biggest ever crowd against the Bulldogs a couple
- 2:24Speaker 2: of years ago in the elimination final.
- 2:26Speaker 1: So I reckon they'll bust that. I think so.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Yeah, you'd expect so.
- 2:29Speaker 2: They've waited 30 years for a premiership and now they're
- 2:31Speaker 2: going completely mad. So the Purple Army is mobilising. Let's
- 2:35Speaker 2: just hope the pressure doesn't, you know, overcook things for anyone.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and hopefully they can get through. But a lot
- 2:40Speaker 2: of Hawks fans here too. Did you watch the Legends,
- 2:43Speaker 2: the 4-20 Legends game last night?
- 2:45Speaker 1: No, I've missed it.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I've seen a few highlights.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Or a low light.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Low light for Fev, I guess. Oh, yeah. That looked nasty. Oh,
- 2:53Speaker 1: his knee. Yeah. So that was his colleague from radio, right?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Was it? Yeah. Nick Cody. They worked together. So how
- 3:03Speaker 1: would they be today if Fev was there?
- 3:06Speaker 2: It looked like, first of all, Fev twisted the leg
- 3:09Speaker 2: and then Cody landed on it.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So it was like, It looked bad. Double whammy. Was
- 3:14Speaker 1: that a workplace dispute or a compo claim?
- 3:17Speaker 3: If it wasn't, it is now.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You wouldn't do that to me, Russ. No. You wouldn't
- 3:22Speaker 1: jump on me and squash me.
- 3:23Speaker 3: You'd outrun me. I wouldn't be able to get to
- 3:24Speaker 3: you anyway.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I don't know about that, mate. They raised a million bucks,
- 3:28Speaker 1: so that's good for prostate. That's fantastic.
- 3:31Speaker 2: That is good.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yeah, cancer patient care.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Russell, did you say the banner said prostrate cancer?
- 3:37Speaker 1: Someone said that.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I saw that this morning.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Now, I've been trying to find it.
- 3:43Speaker 3: All evidence has been white, but I'm sure someone said
- 3:45Speaker 3: that the banner said prostrate.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Oh, I hope not. Lie down. Lie down. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Surely.
- 3:54Speaker 1: It's probably an urban myth. One thing I know is
- 3:57Speaker 1: that none of the footballers would have picked up on it. No,
- 3:59Speaker 1: that's what I'm fearing.
- 4:01Speaker 2: It's like the famous story about those clouds are looking
- 4:04Speaker 2: anonymous today.
- 4:05Speaker 1: No, no, you're thinking I mean ominous. No, no, I
- 4:07Speaker 1: mean anonymous.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I think someone did say that the Collingwood fan club
- 4:13Speaker 3: did put the banner together, so it's quite possible.
- 4:17Speaker 1: That's a vicious rumour.
- 4:19Speaker 2: But the stars were Buddy Franklin kicked eight goals for
- 4:22Speaker 2: the All-Stars, and so it was a cream roast to
- 4:24Speaker 2: the top. It was a nostalgia fest. Dustin Martin and
- 4:26Speaker 2: Gary Ablett Jr., so three of the all-time greats.
- 4:28Speaker 1: They birded 16.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I think they were the only ones allowed to kick goals, actually.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Everyone else had to pass.
- 4:33Speaker 1: It to Buddy.
- 4:34Speaker 2: 16 goals, so that was good. Hey, plenty coming up.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Waffle finals. The glory have.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Sacked their captain, which is pretty amazing.
- 4:42Speaker 2: All I know is that we will need to be
- 4:44Speaker 2: like Tarzan or John Wayne this weekend, the.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Perth Footy Club. Okay. Because we are the underdogs. We're
- 4:50Speaker 1: going to Claremont. Yes.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Finals to play Claremont in a final at Revo Stadium tomorrow.
- 4:56Speaker 2: The Tigers and the Demons for the right to tackle
- 4:58Speaker 2: Peel Thunder next weekend for a place in the grand finals.
- 5:02Speaker 2: How that close. We haven't won since 77. We're so close.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Oh, I remember that one. You weren't even born.
- 5:09Speaker 3: I was there.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Don't worry about it. She was born. I was there.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You were not. No, I was not. What am I saying?
- 5:16Speaker 1: Why don't I take a gift when it's given?
- 5:21Speaker 3: The last time these guys won a grand final was
- 5:24Speaker 3: when their tracksuit pants were flared.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah, we look good in those flared pants.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And then on Sunday at elimination final between your Royals.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Your Royals, Lise. Yes. And South.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And the Bulldogs at Fremantle Oval. Replay of last year's
- 5:41Speaker 2: grand final. So one of those teams will be out.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yes. That played in the grand final. So by five o'clock.
- 5:47Speaker 3: So you both have to travel.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Fingers crossed. I'd love to see an East Perth,
- 5:52Speaker 1: Perth grand final.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Oh, wouldn't it be awesome?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Oh, mate, it'd be a big crowd. It'd be 30,000,
- 5:56Speaker 1: 40,000 in office. Yeah, maybe. Glory let their captain go today.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It's a weird one. Adam Taggart, he's their captain, just re-signed.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And now they just let him go. It's weird.
- 6:07Speaker 2: He's off now to play with Hanoi and Harry Kuehl
- 6:10Speaker 2: at Hanoi. So I think the Glory need to come
- 6:13Speaker 2: out and maybe explain what happened there.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Do a Pauline. Please explain what happened. Cause that is bizarre. Yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Now brace yourselves. I wanted, there's two emotional stories here.
- 6:23Speaker 2: The first one, I know we're not all huge league fans,
- 6:26Speaker 2: but you would have heard of Jai Arrow.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yes, I have.
- 6:29Speaker 2: The South Sydney player who got MND in May, medically retired.
- 6:34Speaker 2: He's sitting on 98 South Sydney games, right? 98 NRL games.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So this week the NRL came out and they've made
- 6:43Speaker 2: a special one-off rule change and which will allow him
- 6:46Speaker 2: to be part of the Rabbitohs' final two games of
- 6:49Speaker 2: the year. So he can reach his 100-game milestone.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Oh, that's awesome. How good is that? So on the bench,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I guess.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, so he'll lead them onto the field, officially be
- 6:58Speaker 2: part of the playing squad. And then when the game starts,
- 7:01Speaker 2: he'll come straight off immediately. He's 31, but obviously not
- 7:06Speaker 2: in any condition to play a game of footy. And it's,
- 7:10Speaker 2: I mean, we talk about sport and we laugh about
- 7:12Speaker 2: it and it's not really that important, but with 20
- 7:15Speaker 2: or 30,000 people there, sometimes you realise that, you know,
- 7:18Speaker 2: giving someone one more moment they'll never forget is pretty big,
- 7:22Speaker 2: isn't it?
- 7:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And that's for the fans too. Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And they know too. So they'll know. So it'll be
- 7:27Speaker 2: so emotional. And two games. So well done to the
- 7:31Speaker 2: NRL there. The other one I meant, sorry to go
- 7:34Speaker 2: out on this note, but we lost a great West
- 7:36Speaker 2: Australian this week. Mark Laney Lane.
- 7:39Speaker 1: You would have heard of him. Longtime boss of Surfing WA. Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Fantastic guy.
- 7:43Speaker 2: 30 years he dedicated himself to surfing and grassroots and
- 7:47Speaker 2: the kids and board riders and great fella. Loved surfing.
- 7:52Speaker 2: He described it beautifully. He said surfing wasn't just about
- 7:55Speaker 2: catching the wave. It was the adventure of getting there,
- 7:57Speaker 2: finding the right wave and then sharing it.
- 7:59Speaker 1: With good friends. So I think that's the essence of surfing.
- 8:02Speaker 1: That sums up surfing. I should have done a bit
- 8:04Speaker 1: more surfing.
- 8:04Speaker 3: And patience.
- 8:05Speaker 1: We should have done surfing. Do you do any surfing?
- 8:08Speaker 1: I sort of. Gave it a try at one of those.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Actually, I think it was down at Scarborough where they.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Do the surfing lessons. Yeah, the Grommets. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Didn't go well.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Makes me feel like I should have gotten more into it.
- 8:21Speaker 2: But the surfing community will gather at Scarborough Beach.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yes. Tomorrow morning. As they should.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Well, isn't the surfing WA offices, I think they're a trigger.
- 8:30Speaker 3: They're just up a little bit further.
- 8:32Speaker 2: So if you knew this bloke or you just love
- 8:34Speaker 2: saluting good West Australians, 8 a.m.
- 8:36Speaker 1: On Scarborough Beach tomorrow, sunset. Point, I think we call
- 8:39Speaker 1: it now, right? Sunset Point. And Surfing Australia will be
- 8:43Speaker 1: paddling out.
- 8:43Speaker 3: And the weather will be good too.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Is it good, is it? Yeah. Not too cold? 8am.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Surfing Australia will be paddling out in New South Wales
- 8:50Speaker 2: somewhere as well at the same time.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Right. That's how big he was.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 1: National. Yeah. Well done, Laney. Great man.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Thanks, Barrow. See you guys.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Have a great weekend. You too, mate. Enjoy the footy.
