- 0:00But we're not here for scenery and songs about pretty girls.
- 0:07We're here for some creepy shit.
- 0:09If you ruin Ireland for me Cassie, I won't ever forgive you.
- 0:13I don't think- There will be nowhere for you to hide.
- 0:17Just Galway.
- 0:18Not all of Ireland.
- 0:20So fun.
- 0:21Oh my god.
- 0:23No.
- 0:24Hi, Caitlyn.
- 0:31Hi, Cassie.
- 0:33Hi, creepy people.
- 0:35Hello.
- 0:36If you're new to our creepy corner of the world, this is PNW Haunts and Homicides, where we chat about true crime, the paranormal.
- 0:45And anything spooky in the Pacific Northwest, usually, usually.
- 1:00We also do a tarot reading at the end of every episode for a little bit of deeper insight into the episode topic.
- 1:08So make sure to stick around if you're into that, which you will be by the time we get to it.
- 1:15Are you into it?
- 1:17Because I'm into it.
- 1:18And into it.
- 1:20That's my prediction.
- 1:24So I know Caitlyn just took us all out of the country to the end of the world.
- 1:30But in honor of St. Patrick's Day.
- 1:36I thought it would be fun to take a little visit, a little journey to Ireland.
- 1:42Yeah.
- 1:43A motherland.
- 1:45I'm so excited.
- 1:48And wouldn't you know it?
- 1:49One of Seattle Washington's sister cities since March 12, 1986 is Galway.
- 1:57Yeah.
- 1:58It's like, yeah.
- 2:00According to irishtourism.com, quote, "Galway is the only city in the province of Connacht in Ireland.
- 2:11Galway City also has a reputation amongst Irish cities for being associated with the Irish language, music, song, and dancing traditions.
- 2:22It is sometimes referred to as the bilingual capital of Ireland.
- 2:26Oh, interesting.
- 2:28The city's name comes from the Gaillimh River, which means Stony as a Stony River, not Stony Baloney.
- 2:38I was literally just about to ask.
- 2:40I was like, listen, I was told to wear green.
- 2:44So I really went hard.
- 2:46I'm lit up in green.
- 2:48And then also, I didn't even bring a wine glass.
- 2:51I just, I brought my green cup and I know you're not going to be able to read it.
- 2:56It says, excuse me.
- 2:57I have to go make a scene.
- 2:59Perfect.
- 3:01Cheers!
- 3:02Chas!
- 3:03Okay, I'm going to send Caitlyn a link and I want you to open it.
- 3:08And just look through the photos of, like, the seasons I was literally in tears.
- 3:16This place is so fucking gorgeous.
- 3:20Yeah.
- 3:21Oh, my God.
- 3:22Other than Seattle, I feel as though Ireland is like the one other place outside of Oregon that I'm like supposed to be there.
- 3:34Yeah.
- 3:36The weather's like very similar to here.
- 3:38Yes.
- 3:39It's so pretty.
- 3:41A lot of Ireland.
- 3:42We're going to go.
- 3:43It's gorgeous.
- 3:44Pod trip.
- 3:45Okay.
- 3:46Pod trip.
- 3:47Expensive.
- 3:48Yeah.
- 3:49Join our Patreon.
- 3:51Yeah, please.
- 3:53Also, if the city sounds familiar to you, it might be because of two bangers by the name of Galway Girl.
- 4:03Oh, yeah.
- 4:04Oh, yeah.
- 4:05Oh, yeah.
- 4:06The first being released in 2000, but topping the charts eight years later after being on the soundtrack of one of my favorite movies to cry to.
- 4:15P.S. I Love You.
- 4:17Do you know that one?
- 4:21I'm not sure that I'm conjuring like a very clear memory of what this movie is.
- 4:26I'm going to all look.
- 4:28Hold on.
- 4:29It hits a fucking nerve.
- 4:30Like the lady's husband dies and he like leaves her at this letter of things to do to like remember.
- 4:35That's what I thought.
- 4:36Oh, yeah.
- 4:37Oh, my God.
- 4:38It just makes me ball
- 4:39Even like I rewatched just the scene where he's singing it to her and I just fucking balled my eyes out last night.
- 4:44It's fine.
- 4:47But on a happier note in 2017, Ed Sheeran "Ed Sheeraned" and came out with a new catchy popped up version.
- 4:59Ed Sheeran "Ed Sheeraned".
- 5:01He "Ed Sheeraned"
- 5:02All over the place.
- 5:04But we're not here for scenery and songs about pretty girls.
- 5:08We're here for some creepy shit.
- 5:10If you ruin Ireland for me, Cassie, I will never forgive you.
- 5:15I don't think- There will be nowhere for you to hide. Just Galway, not all of Ireland.
- 5:21So far.
- 5:22Oh, my God.
- 5:24No.
- 5:25So all it took was one visit to visitgalway.ie, which is a website.
- 5:32To learn that Galway is just as creepy as its Washington sister.
- 5:37Well, that makes sense.
- 5:39The site has several paranormal stories listed and we're going to go through some of them.
- 5:48Great.
- 5:49Because there was too many to fit into one episode and I think I'm going to make a Patreon bonus out of the rest.
- 5:55Oh, my gosh.
- 5:56Yeah.
- 5:57That's a lot.
- 5:58There was a lot.
- 6:00All right.
- 6:01So let us start off a little light so we don't torture Caitlyn too much.
- 6:07With some fairies.
- 6:09Is that okay?
- 6:10I feel like you're lying and I was literally about to ask you when do the fairies come in?
- 6:17Because fairies are very prominent in the Galway culture.
- 6:24I'm giving you understand.
- 6:26Around 1846, there was a fairy battle at Knockma Hill, which we tried to look up the pronunciation for it.
- 6:36And there wasn't one.
- 6:38So we're going with Knockma.
- 6:40It's spelled like you would knock on something and then M.A.
- 6:45Yeah.
- 6:46Knockma.
- 6:47Knockma.
- 6:48The battle was thought to have been between the fairies of Connacht and those of Ulster.
- 6:56And they think it was a rebellion against the fairy king.
- 7:00This one had a pronunciation with it.
- 7:03Finvarra (Finnbheara).
- 7:04Oh.
- 7:05It's weird because it has a V in it, but it looks like it's pronounced like a B.
- 7:10Oh, I came across that name and I was like, who's this?
- 7:14He was the ruler of the Connacht fairies.
- 7:18He resided on Knockma Hill.
- 7:20Finvarra was apparently generous and wise.
- 7:25But he kind of also like to abduct and force women to become his wives.
- 7:32As long as they were beautiful, he wasn't really picky, he would take human or fae.
- 7:39Okay.
- 7:40Great.
- 7:41Because so, you know, I'm safe.
- 7:44Well, first of all, you better watch out.
- 7:47I'm going to hug this whole situation right up.
- 7:51Okay.
- 7:52Also super gross.
- 7:54And I know we all realize that of course every woman's worth is just determined by her looks.
- 8:01But yeah, I hate that.
- 8:06Yeah.
- 8:07So he wasn't that great.
- 8:09No.
- 8:10Yeah.
- 8:11Thank you.
- 8:12So Knockma Hill is thought to be a fairy fortress as well as a portal to the otherworld, which is like the fairy realm, I think.
- 8:23Oh.
- 8:24Yeah.
- 8:25I didn't read too much into it, but from what I've heard, that's what it sounds like.
- 8:29Okay.
- 8:30Where humans feel a presence, kind of like they're being watched, I assume.
- 8:35They see strange lights hear music and voices or even run into Finvarra himself.
- 8:43So watch out.
- 8:45I.
- 8:46Okay.
- 8:47Yeah.
- 8:48If you could just point to where that is on the map and I will just play in my trip everywhere, but there.
- 8:56But if you do go make sure to hug it up, but whatever you do, do not disturb the fairy cairns and or fairy forts, their circular stone enclosures.
- 9:08Or you will more than likely piss off some fairies.
- 9:12And that's never a good idea.
- 9:14Like ever.
- 9:15Don't do that.
- 9:16Okay.
- 9:17But it could potentially be good luck for you if you respect and honor the fairies while you're there.
- 9:22I just feel like it seems too risky and maybe I would just avoid it altogether.
- 9:28You know, I'd still do it.
- 9:31Of course you would.
- 9:34They're fairies.
- 9:35Oh my god.
- 9:36That's that just really sums us up.
- 9:39That's us in a nutshell.
- 9:41Yeah.
- 9:43Well, should we move on to some cryptids?
- 9:47Sure.
- 9:48They're not ghosts.
- 9:50I mean, yeah, that's true.
- 9:56There are several lake monsters just in Galway alone.
- 10:01The creature of the black lake was caught by some fisherman in 1962.
- 10:07The creature was the size of a cow with stumpy legs, small ears, and a nose on its horn.
- 10:15And I said that backwards.
- 10:21And a horn on its nose.
- 10:24So is it like a rhino/hippo?
- 10:27A rhinippo?
- 10:29Rhinotamus?
- 10:30Hiphopanonymous?
- 10:31Okay.
- 10:32If anyone gets the Hiphopanonymous joke, hit me up.
- 10:36All right.
- 10:37Okay.
- 10:38Moving on from the Hiphopanonymous.
- 10:41The Coole lake creature who has been spotted by locals since 1896 is described to be 15 feet long, fish like with scales and a long neck and a horse like head.
- 10:57What?
- 10:58I feel like we've heard before.
- 11:00Okay.
- 11:01The creature at LOUGH AUNA has been spotted since the 1960s and is described almost the same way.
- 11:10It was 15 to 18 feet long, kind of an eel-like body with scales and a horse like head again.
- 11:19Oh, well.
- 11:20What's going on here?
- 11:21Are they migrating?
- 11:22We don't know.
- 11:23I mean, that's some inner species, shenanigans.
- 11:27This one, though, has the added details of flippers, large eyes, and large nostrils, which rude.
- 11:34Like, don't call someone's nostrils large.
- 11:37Yeah.
- 11:38Leave the nostrils out of this.
- 11:40I feel like a horse like head kind of implies that they have a big nose.
- 11:44Okay.
- 11:45Don't rub it in.
- 11:46I, yeah.
- 11:47I feel like at a certain point, like, are you just adding insult to injury?
- 11:51Come on.
- 11:52For real.
- 11:53Yeah.
- 11:54I wrote all the better to snort you with my dear.
- 11:58Because it said to snort loudly.
- 12:04The descriptions are actually very similar to the Irish legend of the Dobhar-chú, meaning
- 12:10"water hound" or "hound of the deep," which I kind of like that.
- 12:15It sounds like Adele song.
- 12:17It does.
- 12:18I literally just going to say, like, Adele's puppy or...
- 12:22That's funny.
- 12:25We were both thinking the same thing.
- 12:27Of course.
- 12:28So, this is a cross between an otter and a dog, but also sometimes an otter-like creature
- 12:35with a horse like head.
- 12:37So, kind of varies, I guess, it depends on who you are, how you describe things.
- 12:41Okay.
- 12:42It's so bizarre.
- 12:44These are apparently very aggressive, and they prey on humans and other animals.
- 12:50And apparently, a dying Dobhar-chú will whistle loudly to signal its mate to come and get some
- 12:57revenge.
- 12:58So, like, if it's attacking you, you can't really even try to kill it, because the mate will
- 13:05come and get its revenge.
- 13:08Watch it.
- 13:10But, like, there's more of them.
- 13:13Right.
- 13:14Okay.
- 13:15Thought this was sort of a lone biology mix-up in the wild, and now you're telling me there's
- 13:25more.
- 13:26Yeah, this is making me think of like all of our water cryptids here.
- 13:30Like, they're all kind of described the same way.
- 13:34Yeah.
- 13:35It's interesting.
- 13:36Is it interesting or is it perhaps terrifying?
- 13:42Because they're aggressive towards humans.
- 13:46It could be both.
- 13:49Two things can be true.
- 13:51Thrilling.
- 13:52When it's interesting and terrifying, it's thrilling.
- 13:54Oh, right.
- 13:55I like that.
- 13:57Next up is the LOATHSOME CREATURE AT LOUGH FADDA.
- 14:02This predator has been spotted since the 1950s, described as having smooth skin, a shark-like
- 14:10head, and of course, containing a mouthful of sharp teeth.
- 14:15I mean, yeah.
- 14:16It's got a shark-like head, so, like, wouldn't be complete without the teeth.
- 14:18I was prepared to assume, but it has also been described as a long eel-like body and a
- 14:28what-kids.
- 14:29That's right.
- 14:30A horse-like head.
- 14:32Oh.
- 14:33Yeah, I feel like I should have gotten that one, but I'm really disturbed about the...
- 14:40Yeah.
- 14:41Something about eels.
- 14:42I'm just...
- 14:43I can't.
- 14:44I love eels.
- 14:45They're so cute.
- 14:46Okay.
- 14:47We...
- 14:48I love them.
- 14:49For people that are so alike, we are just also so very different.
- 14:54But it's interesting, like, a horse-like head is completely different than a shark-like
- 14:59head, so which...
- 15:00Yeah.
- 15:01Please tell me which one.
- 15:04Yeah.
- 15:05We need answers, dammit.
- 15:08Ireland.
- 15:09Call us.
- 15:10Yeah.
- 15:11These do.
- 15:12They call it loathsome because they say it's aggressive and dangerous.
- 15:17And it could possibly be the manifestation of an ancient curse.
- 15:21Dumb it.
- 15:22Great.
- 15:23Yeah.
- 15:24But others believe it to be shy and harmless and possibly a guardian of the lake, so maybe...
- 15:32Maybe to the people who are being naughty to the lake, it shows up as a shark and is aggressive.
- 15:37I mean, yeah.
- 15:38I mean, that could kind of make sense.
- 15:40I don't know.
- 15:41That does make sense.
- 15:42We solved the case.
- 15:43Yeah.
- 15:44There are several other lake creatures specifically called eels.
- 15:50No.
- 15:51I'm not into it.
- 15:53We have the giant eel of LOUGH GRANEY, the large eel at BALLYNAHINCH Lake, and the horned
- 16:03eel at Locke.
- 16:06We're going to guess on the pronunciation of this one because we couldn't find it, but
- 16:10I will spell it for you.
- 16:11Yeah.
- 16:12NAHIOON.
- 16:16So I'm going to guess NAHIOON.
- 16:19NAHIOON.
- 16:20NAHIOON.
- 16:21NAHIOON.
- 16:22I'm so sorry if it's wrong.
- 16:24Please, someone from Ireland call me immediately.
- 16:28Yeah.
- 16:29And this last one, the horned eel, is the only one of them described with two horns on
- 16:35its head.
- 16:37So not only is it creepy, Caitlyn thinks it's creepy, an eel, but it has horns on its head
- 16:42as well.
- 16:44I just don't understand why we are allowing these eels to just what they get to pick their
- 16:54own accessories.
- 16:55Well, some people think it might be due to radiation or pollution.
- 16:59Oh, great.
- 17:00So then actually that kind of makes us this whole.
- 17:03But I mean, how many really knows for sure?
- 17:06Next, we're going to talk about one that made me think of a story I talked about recently.
- 17:11This is the “bear faced" man at Woodlawn train station.
- 17:19And it kind of sounds like the very rudely named "dog face" boy of Ashland, which we don't
- 17:25agree with.
- 17:26And we renamed him Johnny.
- 17:27We're not fans.
- 17:28We don't like that.
- 17:29No, thank you.
- 17:30No, thank you.
- 17:31That was the Lithia Park episode.
- 17:32So if you haven't listened yet, it's the one where we brought back Shakespeare again.
- 17:37And then popularizing Shakespeare since 2024.
- 17:45Two people claim to have seen a man with a quote, “Bear like face."
- 17:53I don't care for that.
- 17:54This is in the late 19th to early 20th century time frame.
- 18:00They witnessed him groaning and holding his stomach.
- 18:04And when he saw them looking, he apparently said, "Don't speak to me."
- 18:10And walked away.
- 18:11"Okay, bye."
- 18:13So he was just speaking normal, but they were apparently shocked and scared by what they
- 18:19saw.
- 18:20But my theory is that maybe this man had the same condition as Johnny - Hypertrichosis, where
- 18:28you grow hair on other parts of your body, other than your head.
- 18:33And this person was clearly in pain for whatever reason.
- 18:38And probably didn't want two people staring at him, like, scared, with scared looks on their
- 18:44faces, you know?
- 18:45Yeah.
- 18:46So he just left and said, "Don't talk to me."
- 18:47Like, that doesn't seem paranormal to me at all.
- 18:50No.
- 18:51No, not at all.
- 18:53That seems like I'm unwell.
- 18:54Please get the fuck out of my face.
- 18:57I...
- 18:58That could be me on any given day.
- 19:00So if you think that's paranormal.
- 19:02Right.
- 19:03And especially if you're probably used to people looking at you like that, you're probably
- 19:07annoyed.
- 19:08Yeah, no kidding.
- 19:11I just hope you ate, you know, probably ate some bad cheese or milk or something and had
- 19:16like a tummy ache.
- 19:17I hope it wasn't anything super serious.
- 19:18I hope it was okay.
- 19:19Yeah.
- 19:20Like, take a picture.
- 19:21It'll less longer.
- 19:23Yeah.
- 19:24And I would assume if he had like a full bear head, like if it was actually bear, like,
- 19:31a bear shape and like with ears and stuff, like they would have said a full ass bear head.
- 19:37Yeah.
- 19:38But they said "bear like" and the other one said dog like so it just makes me think.
- 19:42But just had a hairy face.
- 19:44Yeah.
- 19:45Or it's just like a dig at his appearance, you know?
- 19:49Yeah.
- 19:50It just sad.
- 19:52So next we're going to talk about a little SHC.
- 19:56Do you know what that stands for?
- 19:58I don't know.
- 20:00Spontaneous human combustion.
- 20:03Oh, god damn it.
- 20:04I even warned you this was coming.
- 20:06I know, but you misled me.
- 20:08I was trying to think of like something Sinéad and Connacht.
- 20:13Sinéad?
- 20:15Sinéad helps Connacht.
- 20:17Yeah.
- 20:18Handles?
- 20:19Oh, I can't do better.
- 20:20Yeah, she does.
- 20:21Not Humps.
- 20:23Humps.
- 20:24Humps.
- 20:25Sinéad Humps.
- 20:26Connacht.
- 20:28No disrespect.
- 20:29Love both of you.
- 20:32According to the National Library of Medicine, quote, the term spontaneous human combustion
- 20:40refers to a situation when a human body is found with significant portions of the
- 20:45middle parts of the body reduced to ashes, much less damaged to the head and extremities,
- 20:52and minimal damage to the direct surroundings of the body.
- 20:56Typically no observable source of ignition is found in the vicinity of the victim, and
- 21:03a bad smelling oily substance is noted.
- 21:06I hate it.
- 21:07I hate it.
- 21:08I hate it.
- 21:09I wonder what that could be.
- 21:11I don't know when they hate it.
- 21:14I'll tell you, people were once completely baffled by this, as was I before I read this,
- 21:21to be honest with you.
- 21:23I was kind of, I kind of missed the mystery of it now, but I'll explain it for you.
- 21:27Okay.
- 21:28Cool.
- 21:29And there were all kinds of theories from paranormal to the Lord shall smite thee.
- 21:36Oh, well.
- 21:38People literally thought.
- 21:42People were being smited.
- 21:46You know, the Lord be smitin' in mysterious ways.
- 21:50Be smitin'.
- 21:53But the website does go on to explain that they've done studies to show how this happens
- 21:59and it's not so spontaneous after all.
- 22:03There is a fire source, but it happens so precisely igniting body fat in a slow, insulated
- 22:12burn.
- 22:13Okay.
- 22:14Okay.
- 22:15Quote, the term spontaneous human combustion has nuances, which are not applicable in this
- 22:22situation or to these modern times.
- 22:25Therefore we suggest a new term, fat wick burns.
- 22:31Sir.
- 22:32Sir.
- 22:33So spontaneous human combustion is now called fat wick burn.
- 22:38Okay.
- 22:42Well, that is offensive and also no, just no.
- 22:47I was really going to try hard to hone in on like a different aspect and make it about like,
- 22:54oh, it's not spontaneous anymore.
- 22:57So is it perhaps premeditated human combustion?
- 23:02And I guess we're going to go a different way.
- 23:04So great.
- 23:05Cool.
- 23:06The situation is sad and unfortunate, but one thing that is a little relieving if there
- 23:11is one thing is that it does say for the body fat to start melting and ignite, the victim
- 23:19does already have to have been passed.
- 23:23So at least they're not burning alive.
- 23:28So how they explain it is that an ember or like if you're talking a cigarette or something,
- 23:34it'll like fall and it'll burn a hole through the clothes and then it'll start to like burn
- 23:39through the skin and then like ignite the fat underneath and then it just kind of starts
- 23:46to burn inside the body like insulated almost.
- 23:50Oh my God.
- 23:51Isn't that great?
- 23:52It's it's so crazy still like it's not any less weird.
- 23:56Ah.
- 23:57Well, in 2010 this actually happened to a 76 year old Galway man named Michael Faherty.
- 24:04Although it was officially ruled spontaneous human combustion, obviously with what we know
- 24:10now, it most likely was the fat WIC burn.
- 24:14No, it's never going to be that.
- 24:17I'm never calling it that.
- 24:19No, FWB.
- 24:20No, no.
- 24:23He was found next to a fireplace, but when they investigated they found no evidence of it
- 24:28being the cause of Faherty's death.
- 24:31But he probably passed away, you know, maybe of natural causes while he was laying there.
- 24:38In an ember probably floated down from the fire, again burning a little hole through the
- 24:43clothes and then through the skin and then igniting the fat.
- 24:47No.
- 24:48No.
- 24:49Yeah, but it's still crazy that like none of the surroundings catch on fire because like
- 24:55the floor below and the ceiling above him were damaged, but then like nothing else.
- 25:02So it is kind of weird that it doesn't like keep catching things on fire.
- 25:06It's just kind of like smolders and it's own.
- 25:09Oh God.
- 25:10Yeah.
- 25:11I didn't want to finish that.
- 25:14I don't want you to either.
- 25:19What's nervous laughter everyone nervous.
- 25:22I've never liked anything less than this I think.
- 25:25Yeah, but it's just one of those things where like the conditions have to be just right,
- 25:30which is why it's like super uncommon.
- 25:32It's like a Goldilocks phenomenon.
- 25:35Like yeah, I guess I really hate that.
- 25:38I hate it.
- 25:39I hate it so much.
- 25:40Yeah.
- 25:42There's a couple other theories too, but I think I don't think they've ever like been proven
- 25:49or but I didn't dig into those.
- 25:51You can research them on your own if you'd like.
- 25:55I don't think that I will.
- 25:58It's not smiting.
- 25:59I'll tell you what it's not.
- 26:00It's not smiting.
- 26:01Are you sure?
- 26:02Because like I said, the Lord be smitin' and in mysterious ways.
- 26:05Okay.
- 26:06Smite you.
- 26:07Smite you over there.
- 26:10I want that on a t-shirt.
- 26:12I just got a shirt that said Satan loves you for who you are.
- 26:16Oh.
- 26:17I really like that.
- 26:19He won't smite you.
- 26:20I just think it's like really rude to say that it's due to smiting because like, oh yeah,
- 26:26your loved one died in this horrific way.
- 26:30They were probably a terrible person and God prob sauce hated them.
- 26:34Yeah, this is God just wanted them dead.
- 26:37Like, like, yikes.
- 26:39What?
- 26:40That's so fucked up.
- 26:43Anyway, let's move on.
- 26:46Yeah.
- 26:47Yeah, let's.
- 26:48Okay, know what you're all thinking.
- 26:51Where are the goddamn ghosts, woman?
- 26:53Uh, no.
- 26:54I'm good.
- 26:55I'm going to ignore you.
- 26:56I'm fine.
- 26:59I have some ghosts for you though.
- 27:01Who do you want to hear about them?
- 27:04Totally.
- 27:05Okay, raise your hand if you like pirates.
- 27:08Unless you're driving or pouring hot locks then don't.
- 27:11Raise your hand.
- 27:12Like the “arg".
- 27:13Yeah.
- 27:14I don't know.
- 27:16Like I'm open to it, but I don't know.
- 27:21Well, at DUNANORE castle, you might, I love how you say everything will take a question.
- 27:28Like, I'm from burgundy.
- 27:31I'm trying to pronounce things.
- 27:33I'm giving it my all.
- 27:35But at this castle, you might just catch a ghost ship anchored off the coast with ghost
- 27:41pirates smuggling their booty into the castle ruins.
- 27:45Okay.
- 27:46This muggle in that booty.
- 27:49Yeah, this kind of takes me back to like the prohibition crimes.
- 27:53Yeah, it's kind of like that.
- 27:55Okay.
- 27:56All right.
- 27:57I'm with you.
- 27:58So that's pretty fun.
- 27:59But we're going to keep going.
- 28:00Talk about some different places.
- 28:03Castle Daly was a popin' place.
- 28:06Was it popin'?
- 28:09It was popin'.
- 28:10It was the daily family.
- 28:12They like to host what sounded to me very Gatsby-esque.
- 28:17Right.
- 28:18Just thinking is it like Gatsby?
- 28:21That's what I picture anyway.
- 28:23Love it.
- 28:24Their last big blowout was an engagement party for their daughter.
- 28:28Oh, no.
- 28:29There happened to be a pretty bad storm that night.
- 28:32So the guest stayed over, which is fine.
- 28:35I mean, they had the space.
- 28:36Okay.
- 28:38But as the "thunder rolled and the lightning striked” and- Garth Brooks appeared.
- 28:44Garth Brooks appeared.
- 28:46The ghost of Garth.
- 28:49Garth.
- 28:50The ghost of Garth Brooks appeared and smote them all.
- 28:58Listen, Garth Brooks be smitin' in mysterious ways.
- 29:02Anyway, the guests were trying to settle in, but they kept hearing commotion downstairs
- 29:08as if the party was still going on without them.
- 29:12And then they got FOMO.
- 29:13Oh my gosh, you're a freaking witch.
- 29:16My next line says, but when they went down to cure their FOMO, they walked into a real
- 29:23"red wedding" situation.
- 29:25No.
- 29:28The daily family and all of their houseworkers had been brutally murdered by a quote group
- 29:36of rebels.
- 29:37Oh, I think there was like a war or something going on at this time.
- 29:41I didn't dig into it.
- 29:42Okay.
- 29:43I was like, God damn, what are they rebelling against?
- 29:46I don't know.
- 29:47It was too much to dig into that.
- 29:49But the article did say the rebels stormed the castle during the storm.
- 29:55Oh my god.
- 29:56Wow.
- 29:57Okay.
- 29:58But it is said that the party at the castle still continues from the other side.
- 30:05Those dancing to music can be seen.
- 30:08Clinking of glasses and laughter and good cheer can be heard.
- 30:13But beware, the party sounds might just turn into screams.
- 30:19No, no, thank you.
- 30:23That would be terrible.
- 30:25Yeah.
- 30:26That's so far.
- 30:27Don't kill people while they're partying.
- 30:29It's just not nice.
- 30:30It's really rude.
- 30:32Also, it's not just like a party.
- 30:35I know it's engagement party.
- 30:37You know, it's so mean.
- 30:40So this is fine.
- 30:41I love this episode and everything in it.
- 30:46I hate this is fine.
- 30:48Well, we can move on.
- 30:49We're done with wedding stuff for right now.
- 30:51Well, that makes one of us.
- 30:55We're going to move on to the knocking girl of RATHPEAK House or RATHPEAK.
- 31:01I'm not sure.
- 31:04We're having a lot of trouble finding pronunciations for these.
- 31:08The mansion was built in the 1800s by a man named Owen Lynch.
- 31:13And this man apparently loved him a duel.
- 31:17He was like, do you want a duel?
- 31:19Do you want a duel?
- 31:20Do you want a duel?
- 31:21Let's duel right now, right here.
- 31:23Literally.
- 31:24But it just feels like a lot.
- 31:27You know, it was a lot of dueling.
- 31:30People even called him "the frightening (I meant to say fighting) squire" or "the terror of Connaught."
- 31:36I mean, yeah, it sounds like that was fitting.
- 31:40But I challenge you to it.
- 31:44How about I challenge you to like, I don't know, like a cheeto eating contest.
- 31:50That's really more my speed.
- 31:54Depends.
- 31:55Are they hot cheetos?
- 31:56Because that might be a little challenging.
- 31:58You know they're not.
- 31:59Okay.
- 32:00I'm not talking to.
- 32:01I would die.
- 32:02Yeah.
- 32:03We could have a cheeto duel.
- 32:04Let's do it.
- 32:05Yeah, just a regular cheeto duel.
- 32:08Okay.
- 32:09We are the terror of cheetos.
- 32:12[laughs]
- 32:15Before the house was torn down in the late 20th century, it was haunted by one of the daughters
- 32:22or granddaughters of Owen Lynch, of which there were many.
- 32:28These people popped out babies like nobody's business.
- 32:32Yeah.
- 32:33I mean, it's kind of, listen, if you're Irish Catholic, it's like kind of their thing.
- 32:38But no one really knows who she is or how she died.
- 32:43While the house was occupied by the lynches and their houseworkers, they would witness
- 32:49the apparition of a little girl peering out of a top floor window, looking sad.
- 32:56No, thank you.
- 32:58Just sad, so cruel.
- 33:01And I'm out.
- 33:03Or she would knock loudly on the walls and doors like she was trying to get attention or
- 33:07possibly ask for help.
- 33:09Okay.
- 33:10Help me.
- 33:11No.
- 33:12Sad.
- 33:13[laughs]
- 33:15I was trying to be delicate and get my feet up in this chair quietly and not cause a stir.
- 33:25But I made you jump.
- 33:27Just me over here with my green cup causing a scene after Cassie harrasses me.
- 33:34Sorry.
- 33:35We're moving on.
- 33:37No more little girls.
- 33:38Great.
- 33:39We're just going to move on to the phantom of a sad old man.
- 33:43Okay.
- 33:45This is the sad old man of Maam or Maam. It's M-A-A-M cross.
- 33:52Okay.
- 33:53So, he will stand in a sharp bend in the middle of an old dirt crossroads on dark and foggy
- 34:03nights.
- 34:04That's not where you want to be.
- 34:08And when cars inevitably hit him, he doesn't move.
- 34:13Instead, he just stands there, staring back at you with sorrowful eyes.
- 34:18Okay.
- 34:19Why is everyone so sad?
- 34:24I don't know, but I feel like at that point, I would just be like, all right, well, I have
- 34:29to go drive this car into the ocean.
- 34:32Goodbye.
- 34:33No.
- 34:34I can't with that.
- 34:38I just, I won't.
- 34:40I also, I will not.
- 34:41Yeah.
- 34:42It's like the white- it's like the white ladies who just like jump out in front of cars or
- 34:47appear in front of the cars.
- 34:48God, why do old people jump out of front of cars?
- 34:51Don't worry.
- 34:53I know.
- 34:54No.
- 34:55Some people think he's sad though because maybe he passed during the great famine of the 1840s.
- 35:04I mean, that'll do it.
- 35:07Yeah.
- 35:08Going some food.
- 35:09Yeah.
- 35:10Leave him an offering of some Cheetos.
- 35:14Cheetos are just like literally anything, but I mean Cheetos are always a-
- 35:18It's a strong selection.
- 35:21I want to go find this.
- 35:22Crossroads and leave him, leave him a little offering of food and see if I can.
- 35:26See if it helps.
- 35:27I guess people have gone there before to try to get him to cross over, but it doesn't work.
- 35:31Oh, that's sad.
- 35:35The walking dog ghost.
- 35:38A cyclist came across a black dog walking ahead of him in the Ballygar area in 1913.
- 35:47As he wrote up on it, the dog disappeared right in front of his eyes.
- 35:52Okay.
- 35:53And he was so distraught that he reported it to newspaper.
- 35:57Oh, all right.
- 35:59That seems like a weird thing to write into a newspaper about, but live your life.
- 36:05Right?
- 36:06Like, hey, I saw this dog and it just disappeared.
- 36:09I saw a dog story.
- 36:10Go.
- 36:11And then I didn't.
- 36:13Like what?
- 36:14Did you blink?
- 36:19And it just ran away.
- 36:20Maybe it's real fast.
- 36:22Not newsworthy.
- 36:23But there have been several other sightings of the dog in the area.
- 36:30People report the dog to be large and shaggy with glowing eyes.
- 36:34Great.
- 36:35Aww.
- 36:36He's seemingly harmless.
- 36:39Okay.
- 36:41He's glowing with love for his owner.
- 36:45Possibly.
- 36:46Or like glow in the dark, like radioactive or evil type of glowing.
- 36:53It just says glowing.
- 36:54Doesn't say they're like red.
- 36:56So that's good.
- 36:57But they do say he's seemingly harmless.
- 37:01He might follow people for a while before disappearing.
- 37:06And people think he might be the spirit of a loyal pet that was buried in the area.
- 37:11But he could also be the black dog of death or the fairy hound.
- 37:18Oh no.
- 37:19Bring him back, fairies.
- 37:20No.
- 37:21No, thank you.
- 37:23So that's cool too.
- 37:26I didn't see anything saying the dog was mean or anything bad happened when people saw
- 37:30him.
- 37:31Okay.
- 37:32I don't know why people think he's like a death dog or a fairy hound.
- 37:35I don't know.
- 37:36Yeah.
- 37:37Why suddenly I don't trust dogs and weddings or engagement parties or for fairies.
- 37:45None of it.
- 37:46I mean cheetos.
- 37:47That makes sense.
- 37:48And listen, you'll never break my trust in cheetos.
- 37:51That's ridiculous.
- 37:52But Garth Brooks, I'd brew into a lot today.
- 37:56Ireland.
- 37:57Water.
- 37:58Just go away.
- 37:59Just go away.
- 38:00Okay.
- 38:01Are you ready for our last story?
- 38:05I mean, please.
- 38:07It's very on theme and I think it'll make you happy.
- 38:10Okay.
- 38:11Our last story is about the short men in green of the ARAN Islands.
- 38:20This is a group of three islands off the west coast of Ireland.
- 38:25And in 1982, a boy spotted two men fishing while he was out walking the shoreline of one
- 38:31of the islands.
- 38:34They were dressed in green and speaking Irish, but with an accent, the boy didn't recognize.
- 38:40So we had me that was a different dialect.
- 38:45But the strange thing was the two men were only about a meter tall.
- 38:51I don't know how tall a meter is.
- 38:53It's like three feet.
- 38:55Okay.
- 38:56Yeah.
- 38:57They were about three feet tall.
- 38:58So roughly my height.
- 39:01Was it you?
- 39:06I mean, I am wearing green.
- 39:11Case closed.
- 39:12Yeah.
- 39:13Solved it.
- 39:14But the curious cat, the boy tried to quietly approach, but the men noticed him and they
- 39:24vanished right before his eyes.
- 39:26There's a lot of disappearing here in these stories.
- 39:28Yeah, it seemed to just be popping in and out of his existence.
- 39:32Yeah, just I don't know.
- 39:34That seems odd.
- 39:36Odd.
- 39:37Yeah.
- 39:38Like put a pin in that.
- 39:41Ireland.
- 39:42That's Ireland for you.
- 39:44But the boy noticed that they dropped something.
- 39:48A pipe.
- 39:50I wonder what was in this little pipe.
- 39:53I was like, I don't know if I would smoke that pipe.
- 39:57So of course he took it as proof and stashed it in a drawer.
- 40:02But unfortunately his friends and family didn't believe his short tail.
- 40:07Get it?
- 40:08Cause it's not a tall tail.
- 40:14But I'm like, did he show them the pipe?
- 40:16I'm not sure if he showed them or if he just kept it to himself.
- 40:19I mean, he must.
- 40:20Yeah.
- 40:21Yeah.
- 40:22Unless they're like what?
- 40:23Like, yeah.
- 40:24Well, they might have taken it though, because it is a pipe.
- 40:26And if you try to tell your parents, yeah, they'd be like, we don't smoke reefer in this house.
- 40:32If you're telling your friends, you might have shown them the pipe.
- 40:35Who knows?
- 40:36I don't know.
- 40:37Ireland's pretty conservative.
- 40:39Maybe his friends would have been like, yeah, smoke reefer in this house.
- 40:43I don't know.
- 40:44I don't know if I'm smoke weed either.
- 40:45Who knows?
- 40:46It's probably just tobacco.
- 40:47I mean, yeah.
- 40:50Well, he tried to go back and see if he could spot the little men in green again, but he never
- 40:55did.
- 40:56And the stolen pipe also mysteriously banished from the drawer.
- 41:02Okay.
- 41:03Yeah.
- 41:04Now that.
- 41:05Okay.
- 41:06He searched his house high and low, but was never able to find it again.
- 41:11He searched it.
- 41:12So I and I and low.
- 41:18I didn't even make that joke on purpose.
- 41:19Nope.
- 41:20I wonder if his parents just found it in through.
- 41:24They were like, yeah, no, this isn't.
- 41:27Nope.
- 41:28Because you have to think it was probably not like a, it was probably a normal size pipe.
- 41:32Like people who are three feet tall don't have like teeny, weenie tiny pipes.
- 41:36Or do they?
- 41:37I don't know.
- 41:39Asking for a friend.
- 41:41Leprechauns call us and tell us how big your pipe is.
- 41:45Leprechauns call Cassie.
- 41:49I just need to know about the pipe.
- 41:51You guys know.
- 41:52Uh huh.
- 41:54Gosh, we have some real themes running through the show.
- 41:57We do.
- 41:58Well, that's all the stories that I could fit into this episode.
- 42:03So stay tuned, Patreon for a bonus later at some other point in time.
- 42:10Well, I will see you later or I will see you another time.
- 42:17Well, you ready to do some tarot?
- 42:19I am.
- 42:20Yeah.
- 42:22You've got something we're really excited to share with you guys.
- 42:26Let's hear a few words from our new pod besties.
- 42:32This is Justin, host of Obscura: true crime podcast.
- 42:36Do you need a true crime fix?
- 42:38Obscura has atmospheric music and sound design.
- 42:42The show shines a spotlight on the darker things in life by taking a narrative approach
- 42:46to covering real murders, mysteries, missing persons and more.
- 42:50What do I mean by narrative approach?
- 42:53On Obscura, we structure our episodes in such a way that they paint a narrative in your
- 42:58mind with a heavy focus on victims in less known cases.
- 43:02Each week I'll take you on a deep dive into the darker side of history, mystery and murder.
- 43:08Be warned.
- 43:09Obscura is not for the squeamish.
- 43:11Shocking crimes are covered in full detail and real court and 911 audio is used when possible.
- 43:18Be a true crime fan with a taste for the hard stuff, then Obscura has you covered.

- 43:50At the time I only felt a punch.
- 43:52I think everything went wrong.
- 43:54His drug of choice was Harlan, binging and purging over and over and over.
- 44:01Evaluate you and if you're okay to go, they're gonna let you go.
- 44:04This is Justin and I do the Peripheral podcast.
- 44:08I have a true crime background but when telling the stories of true crime, sometimes you have
- 44:14to gloss over topics like mental illness, drug addiction, sexual assault, and I feel like
- 44:21we do that in life too.
- 44:23So this podcast is my attempt to bring all of these topics that are on the peripheral
- 44:29into the mainstream.
- 44:31So please join me wherever you listen to podcasts.
- 44:34Check them out, creepy people, their info is in our show notes.
- 44:41I feel like what if we do, because this one is like the plant in animal and then I have
- 44:46the goddess one, what if we do, and what if we do two oracle readings?
- 44:52Because we are allowed to mix it up.
- 44:56We can do whatever we want.
- 44:57This is our show.
- 44:58I don't know if you knew that.
- 45:00Being a smart one.
- 45:03You both.
- 45:04Because then I feel like it's giving us all of the elements.
- 45:09I don't know.
- 45:11I like it.
- 45:12I don't really know that I even understood it but here we are.
- 45:18I have really small hands.
- 45:22Have we ever talked about that?
- 45:25These goddess oracle cards are ginormous.
- 45:30They're huge.
- 45:33Okay.
- 45:34Now, where about in the deck?
- 45:39I'm just like, where your thumb was just now?
- 45:42Down.
- 45:43Yeah.
- 45:44Like there?
- 45:45That area.
- 45:46Yeah.
- 45:47Okay.
- 45:48You're going to shit.
- 45:50You're going to absolutely shit.
- 45:54What is it?
- 45:55It's a red head and there's a sneak.
- 45:58Is it The Morrigan?
- 46:00No.
- 46:01Dang it.
- 46:02How you pronounce this?
- 46:03S-I-G-Y-N.
- 46:06Sigyn.
- 46:07Sigyn.
- 46:08Sigyn.
- 46:09I like it.
- 46:12Cassie.
- 46:16She is number 33 and you know how I feel about these synchronicity numbers, especially
- 46:23of late.
- 46:24Oh my goodness.
- 46:26Okay.
- 46:27So she is from the Norse pantheon and her keywords are loyalty, support and devotion.
- 46:38Goddess Sigyn, the loyal wife of the trickster Loki.
- 46:43Loki.
- 46:44Loki.
- 46:45Loki was so devoted that when the other gods chained her husband in a cave as punishment
- 46:53for killing Balder, she would not leave his side.
- 46:57Oh my god.
- 47:00Ah.
- 47:01Okay.
- 47:02I really hate snakes, but I'm going to power through.
- 47:05Above Loki was a venom-dripping snake, but Sigyn held a bowl to catch it so the venom
- 47:12wouldn't touch her husband's head.
- 47:14Aww.
- 47:15That's so sweet.
- 47:16It is sweet.
- 47:17This reminds me of those like the monsters who scream when they're being killed and their
- 47:23mate comes and like gets revenge.
- 47:26And they kind of like the snake that's in here, like you could make an argument.
- 47:30That looks kind of like an eel.
- 47:32Yeah.
- 47:33It's hard to see it.
- 47:34You also snake like.
- 47:35Yeah.
- 47:36You even said that earlier.
- 47:37Yeah.
- 47:38Yeah.
- 47:39Yeah.
- 47:40Yeah.
- 47:41Supporting loved ones is important in good times and bad.
- 47:45It's easy to be there for someone when things are going well, but being present in the
- 47:49harder times speaks more of your love, be there for each other at all times equally unless
- 47:57it's toxic.
- 47:58Oh my god.
- 48:00Well that's just making me think of like this goes back to like kind of the wedding theme
- 48:06that appears to be just like running through this, you know, like for better or for worse.
- 48:12Yeah.
- 48:13Or wires.
- 48:14Wires.
- 48:15Um, and they have these little quotes at the bottom and hers is my love and support are
- 48:24powerful.
- 48:25Interesting.
- 48:26Okay.
- 48:27I'm going to fan it out.
- 48:28That one.
- 48:29That is not helpful at all.
- 48:38Right there you that thumb keep going back, back more somewhere around there.
- 48:44Oh my god.
- 48:46Is it an eel?
- 48:48Dude, it's a bear.
- 48:50Oh, it's a bear.
- 48:52And it's like, I know and it's like just a close up of his face.
- 48:58That's very interesting.
- 49:00Um, so cool.
- 49:02Cool.
- 49:03Okay.
- 49:04So our Oracle card for the bear are keywords are recharge, inner strength and solitude.
- 49:14This card tells us to use your energy wisely.
- 49:21Relaxation, solitude and inward exploration allow for deep insights to just state.
- 49:31Is one of my least favorite words in any like state.
- 49:39Stay true to your vision and stand tall in the face of your fears.
- 49:46Stay tall.
- 49:47Also, Caitlin scared of everything.
- 49:49Mm-hmm.
- 49:50Yeah.
- 49:51I'm just afraid of everything.
- 49:52You know what?
- 49:53You remember when that doll said that to you?
- 49:55I've been trying to forget ever since, but thank you for reminding me.
- 50:00Stand tall.
- 50:01Oh, fuck me, right?
- 50:04Geez.
- 50:05Okay.
- 50:06Anyways.
- 50:07I have more jokes.
- 50:10Okay.
- 50:13But trust that now is not the time to act.
- 50:16Presently, your energy is better spent envisioning, strategizing and preparing for the future.
- 50:25It just really like reminds me of the man who they said had a bear face.
- 50:30I want to name him.
- 50:32Is there any names on that card?
- 50:35Um, Barry?
- 50:38We can call him Barry.
- 50:39I don't know if that's disrespectful or not.
- 50:42We've already had a Barry in the podcast though.
- 50:44Oh, yeah.
- 50:45We did just have a Barry.
- 50:46Um, we could call him Sid, like, Sigyn and he could be Sid.
- 50:53I was thinking like Stanley.
- 50:55Okay.
- 50:56But we're both getting S's.
- 50:58Yeah.
- 50:59What do you think?
- 51:00Sid or Stanley?
- 51:02Stan?
- 51:03Stan.
- 51:04Yeah.
- 51:05I mean, it should be shortened up.
- 51:07So okay, Sid and Sigyn or Stan and Sigyn, I think Stan, Stan and Sigyn.
- 51:16Okay.
- 51:17Their names sound better together.
- 51:18Okay.
- 51:19So on this, um, you know, marriage kick.
- 51:24Now Stan and this goddess are getting married.
- 51:29They are now.
- 51:30I'm shipping them real hard.
- 51:32No, I just like it when people's names like sound good together, you know, like Chris and
- 51:38Caitlyn.
- 51:39I was going to say Caitlyn and Cassie.
- 51:41All and uh, I mean, we should get married.
- 51:45We're all the C names.
- 51:46So it doesn't hurt.
- 51:48I was saying that that card just like reminded me of Stan who wanted to just be alone and
- 51:56like everyone else leave me alone.
- 51:57I'm doing my own thing.
- 52:02I'm working on myself here, working through some shit, some trauma, leave me alone.
- 52:06Yeah.
- 52:07Bitches.
- 52:08Don't look at me like you're scared.
- 52:09Yeah.
- 52:10Yeah.
- 52:11If you can't bear to look at me.
- 52:14Oh Stan.
- 52:16Oh Stan.
- 52:18We wouldn't look at you scared.
- 52:20I frankly like men with most of their face full of hair.
- 52:27Well, I think, I think we're done.
- 52:31I think we covered Ireland.
- 52:33I think we did it.
- 52:34Yeah.
- 52:35Well, we covered Galway.
- 52:37We'll probably visit Ireland again.

- 54:52Yeah.
- 54:53Have a creepy ass St. Patrick's Day!
- 54:58In Ireland, in Galway.
- 55:00With the leprechauns, I'm going to go have lucky charm ice cream after this.
- 55:06What?
- 55:07You have a lucky charm ice cream?
- 55:11Not yet, but I'm gonna.
- 55:12Oh, bitch.
- 55:14I want some.
- 55:15I know.
- 55:16I'll bring some.
- 55:18Maybe I can bring some help.
- 55:20I think you're gonna bring me some and I'm like, aww.
- 55:24You're gonna drive an hour to bring me some ice cream.
- 55:27I love you.
- 55:28I mean, I would.
- 55:30Like if you had a broken leg, but it's very free.
- 55:34I don't.
- 55:35I don't.
- 55:36I just need to make an-
- 55:38I just need to make an Irish friend who will just, I can text and they can just send me a voice.
- 55:48Hmm.
- 55:49Thing of how to say it.
- 55:50Yeah.
- 55:51Or they get like face time you.
- 55:53Yeah.
- 55:54Does any Irish people want to be friends with me?
- 55:56Woo!
- 55:57Welcome, visit you.
- 55:58Woo!
- 55:59Yeah.
- 56:00I will as well.
- 56:01Not in a creepy way like Caitlyn is trying to make it seem.
- 56:05I am not a creeper.
- 56:08I just want to slide off my chair as I listen to you speak.
- 56:12Oh my god.
- 56:14What is the big deal?
- 56:15[BLANK_AUDIO]
