- 0:00If you would turn with me to 1st.
- 0:01John Chapter 5. We will be.
- 0:07Reading from verse 5. Through verse 13, who?
- 0:14Is the one who overcomes the world, but the one who.
- 0:17Believes that Jesus. Is the Son of God.
- 0:21This is the one who came by water and.
- 0:24By blood, Jesus Christ. Not with water only.
- 0:29But with water. And with the blood.
- 0:32It is the Spirit that testifies because the Spirit is truth.
- 0:37For there are three that testify the.
- 0:41Spirit and the water and the blood and the three are in
- 0:46agreement. If we.
- 0:48Receive the witness of men. The testimony of God is.
- 0:53Greater for the. Testimony of God.
- 0:56Is this? That he has testified.
- 0:59Concerning his son, the one who believes in the son of.
- 1:04God has the. Testimony in himself the one who
- 1:09does not. Believe God.
- 1:11Has made him out to be a liar because he has not believed in
- 1:15the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.
- 1:19And this is the. Testimony that God has.
- 1:23Given to us eternal life and this test.
- 1:27And this? Life is in his Son.
- 1:29The one who has the Son has life.
- 1:32The one who does not have the Son of God does not have life,
- 1:36these things. Have I written unto you who
- 1:39believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that
- 1:44you have eternal? Life.
- 1:50On Wednesday night, June 19th. I reviewed the 1st 4 chapters.
- 1:56Of first John. Plus the 1st 4 verses of chapter
- 2:025. Because the last time I had
- 2:04preached on 1st John was Wednesday March 4th 2020, so I
- 2:11thought some review was needed. So we did that on Wednesday
- 2:16night and. Today as we look through the
- 2:19verses. We have tonight verses 5 through
- 2:2113. Actually, 5 through 8 would be a
- 2:25review of. Wednesday night.
- 2:29So let's start with verse five. Who?
- 2:31Is the one who is overcome the world, but the one who.
- 2:35Believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
- 2:40This word. Overcome or Overcomer?
- 2:44It's a word that. Means conqueror or victorious. 1
- 2:50It was used when the Ancients would go out to.
- 2:52War and they would war against another king, the.
- 2:56Victorious ones would come home with this.
- 2:59They would. Be the overcomers.
- 3:01So the question is. Acts here who is?
- 3:04The one who overcomes the world, but the one who.
- 3:08Believes that Jesus. Christ is the Son of God.
- 3:12You and I, believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, puts
- 3:16us in that camp of the overcomers.
- 3:20Now this. Isn't talking about an
- 3:21intellectual belief, It's talking.
- 3:23About a practical belief, if you believe in Christ, that means
- 3:28you trust. In and rely up on Christ and
- 3:31what it is He has done. For your salvation and that
- 3:37believing also brings with it obedience.
- 3:41There is nothing to the idea of being a Christian and not being
- 3:46obedient to God. That's just not in the.
- 3:50Scriptures at all. And so when we see that.
- 3:53We must understand that then, and that he says.
- 3:57The one who? Believes that Jesus.
- 4:00Is the Son of God. Everyone who believes this is a
- 4:06continuing belief when he talks to us about the.
- 4:10Ones who have been commanded to believe in God.
- 4:14That's talking about the time that we.
- 4:16Gave our life to Christ, but every Christian continues from
- 4:23that point of giving their life to.
- 4:25Christ to believing in what it. Is that God has done for him.
- 4:41But the Christian never will, and that's what he is bringing
- 4:44to us, to help us to understand that.
- 4:31There's never a point to where we as Christians stop believing.
- 4:37Someone else may stop and and stop participating with us and
- 4:40walk. John helps us with that idea in
- 4:50John Chapter 5, verse one, everyone.
- 4:53Who believes that Jesus is the Christ is?
- 4:57Born of God and everyone who. Loves the father, loves the
- 5:02child, that is. Born of him, everyone who
- 5:05continues to believe he's born of God.
- 5:07That's your proof of. How it is that you know that
- 5:10you're born of God. Then he talked about that one
- 5:14time thing and. First, John 523.
- 5:18And this is his commandment that we believe in the name of.
- 5:24Jesus Christ. And love one another.
- 5:27Just as he has. Commanded us See this is that
- 5:30one time thing, remember? The jailer in Acts chapter 16
- 5:36when he asked the question men and.
- 5:38Brother And what must I do to be saved?
- 5:41In Acts chapter 16 verse 31 they give him the answer.
- 5:44Believe in the Lord. Jesus Christ and you will be
- 5:48saved. And your whole house make a
- 5:51decision now this point in your life.
- 5:55Believe in the Lord. Jesus Christ and.
- 5:58You will be saved and from that point on the the jailer continue
- 6:03to believe. And that's what's happened.
- 6:06To all of us as. Christians and we see this.
- 6:11What are we to believe? Believe that Jesus is.
- 6:14The Son of God when John. Says Jesus is.
- 6:20The Son of God. Every Jew knew that John was.
- 6:25Saying that Jesus is God. Every.
- 6:31Jew would believe that. Look at the.
- 6:35Gospel of John chapter 5, starting at verse 15.
- 6:41He's already talking about. The persecution of Jesus.
- 6:45He says for this. Reason the Jews.
- 6:49Were persecuting Jesus because. He was doing these things.
- 6:53On the Sabbath for things he had healed a lame man.
- 6:59He did this on the Sabbath, but he answered them.
- 7:03My father is working until now and I myself am working.
- 7:09For this. Reason, therefore the Jews were
- 7:12seeking. All the more to kill him because
- 7:16he. Not only was breaking.
- 7:18The Sabbath, but he was calling God his own Father, making
- 7:23himself equal with. God.
- 7:27No person in the Old Testament ever called God his Father when.
- 7:33They saw this, they said. This man has now claimed to be
- 7:38God. Because, he said, my father has
- 7:42worked up until now and now. I am working look at John
- 7:46chapter 10. Verse 33 the.
- 7:50Jews answered him. We are not stoning you.
- 7:54For good work. But for blasphemy, and because
- 7:59you being a man made. Yourself out to be God now if
- 8:06you familiar with? How they translated?
- 8:10The Bible. If you look at those 3 words out
- 8:13to be, they're probably in italics.
- 8:16In your Bible, that means they're not in the.
- 8:18Original, so the. Phrase would really mean you
- 8:23being man, made yourself God. This why that they were about to
- 8:29stone him, that he. Being a man had made himself.
- 8:34Out to be God. But you know, even the disciples
- 8:37didn't really get it. You look at John chapter 14.
- 8:42Verses 7 to 9 Jesus would say to them, if you have known me, you
- 8:47would have known my Father also. From now on you know him and
- 8:52have seen him, Philip said unto him, Lord, show.
- 8:56Us the Father. And it is enough for us.
- 8:59Jesus said unto him, Have I been so long time with you?
- 9:04And yet. You have not not come to know
- 9:07me, Philip. The one who has seen me has seen
- 9:11the Father. How can you say?
- 9:15Show us the Father. It is clear from Scripture that.
- 9:19Jesus Christ is God. And when John uses this term?
- 9:25He is telling us that. Believe that Jesus is the.
- 9:29Son of God. He mean in the fullest sense of
- 9:33the. Bible description of Jesus.
- 9:36He is the Christ from the Old Testament called the Messiah.
- 9:41He has come to us in the flesh. That he would die.
- 9:46On the cross and be. Raised the third day he would
- 9:49ascend back into. Heaven to make intercessions for
- 9:52us. And He's coming again to receive
- 9:54us unto himself. This is what He's calling us to
- 9:59do when he says believe in. Jesus Christ, let's move.
- 10:06Further in our review for first John Chapter 5. 6 through 8.
- 10:11This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ,
- 10:17not with water only, but with water and with the blood.
- 10:22It is the Spirit who testifies because the Spirit is true.
- 10:27For there are three that testify the Spirit.
- 10:32And the water and the blood. And the three are in agreement.
- 10:41When you're in agreement, that means you say the same.
- 10:43Thing you you are bringing out the same thing.
- 10:49What are the? 3IN agreements.
- 10:51About about who Jesus Christ is. At the baptism the heavens open.
- 10:59The father spoke. And the spirit came down in the
- 11:03form. Of a dog dove.
- 11:05And rested up on him. Matthew chapter 3 verses 16
- 11:10through 18 at the Crucifixion the.
- 11:14Veil was torn from. Top to bottom Matthew Chapter 7,
- 11:18verse 51, indicating that there is no reason to keep the.
- 11:23Holies of Holies heed from everybody else.
- 11:25Because he who is holy has. Died on the cross and paid the
- 11:29penalty for all of our sins, therefore.
- 11:33All of those who? Could not go in now and see it
- 11:36it has been ripped. From top to bottom.
- 11:40That brings us to our. Verses for today if we received.
- 11:46The Testimony of Men, verse 9. The testimony.
- 11:51Of God is greater for the. Testimony of God is.
- 11:55This that he has testified concerning his son John.
- 12:03Lets the people. Of his day know.
- 12:07That if they. Accept the testimony of men on
- 12:10lesser issues. How foolish it is to not to
- 12:15accept God's testimony. On greater things if John was
- 12:22writing. To us today he would say
- 12:23something like if. You receive the testimony of the
- 12:27Internet or your favorite news. How foolish it would be.
- 12:34Not to receive the testimony of. God, because God's testimony is
- 12:40greater. And that's the thing that we
- 12:43have to come to and have to keep in mind and share with.
- 12:47Those as we go among. People of the world today, Donna
- 12:54and I was up in. Washington visiting some
- 12:57relatives and having a family reunion.
- 13:00And there was a preacher there in the group.
- 13:05He asked me. He's What's your opinion on the
- 13:07flood? He just Was it a worldwide
- 13:11flood? Was it a local flood?
- 13:14And then he quoted. Hugh Ross and I already knew he
- 13:18was in trouble. When he said that, so I said to
- 13:21him my opinion. Of the flood is the exact as the
- 13:25Bible says it was. We don't have to wonder, was it
- 13:30a worldwide? Flood the The Bible tells us it
- 13:32was so why are we debating whether or not it was a
- 13:37worldwide flood or not? I don't care who.
- 13:40Says it is. When God says it, we can believe
- 13:45it. And we can stand on it.
- 13:49And that's the thing. That we are called to do because
- 13:53God testimony is. Now look at verse 10.
- 14:00The One who believes. In the Son of God.
- 14:04Has this. Testimony in himself.
- 14:09The one who does not. Believe God has made.
- 14:12Him out to. Be a liar.
- 14:13Because he has not believed the testimony that God has given
- 14:17concerning his Son. Now, on Wednesday night, the
- 14:2119th, when I shared this, I quoted John McCarthy.
- 14:24Here he he talks about the fact that is John writes in his
- 14:29epistle and as he wrote the gospel, John always make a clear
- 14:34comparison between two things and John MacArthur says he never
- 14:40adds 1/3 and that's a good point because when he walks through
- 14:46these scriptures with us he keeps the comparison.
- 14:49To two the one who believes in the son of.
- 14:53God has this. Testimony in himself, by the
- 14:56way, that's a clue. He didn't say he knows this
- 15:00testimony. He says he has this.
- 15:03Testimony within himself. The one who does not.
- 15:07Believe God has made. Him out to.
- 15:09Be a liar. Because he is not believed in
- 15:11the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.
- 15:15What arrogance? To believe that you know more
- 15:21than God and you're willing to say now, it doesn't mean that
- 15:25God is a liar. He said for that person he has
- 15:28made God. Out to be a liar.
- 15:31And that's what you and I. Are called to.
- 15:36By the way, we see. A lot of things being passed off
- 15:41as Christianity Today, one of our cousins in Washington said
- 15:49to her parents recently. I.
- 15:51Am giving up on the church, but I'm not giving up on God now.
- 15:57My concern was that the parents didn't ask any questions.
- 16:04My question would have been how do you give up on the church
- 16:08whom God died? For and not give up on God.
- 16:13It's impossible. How is it that you forsake the
- 16:17assembling of? Yourself, together with the
- 16:19people who God has told you not to forsake yourself and not.
- 16:23Give up on God. There are times to ask question
- 16:28people, and when you hear some junk like that, you need to ask
- 16:33some questions. In verse 10 here the one who
- 16:39believes in the Son of God has this testimony in himself.
- 16:44Look at first John chapter. 4 verse 2.
- 16:48He says By this you know the Spirit.
- 16:51Of God. Every spirit that confess that
- 16:54Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.
- 17:00Every Spirit that confess. That Jesus Christ is coming to
- 17:05flesh. There's a difference between
- 17:08saying that Jesus Christ is coming to.
- 17:12Flesh and confessing that Jesus Christ is coming to flesh when
- 17:18you say something you're speaking with.
- 17:19The mouth. When you confess something, you
- 17:22are agreeing with what has already been said.
- 17:27We have to agree with what the Bible.
- 17:30Has said about Jesus Christ not what man says about him.
- 17:34That's what he's bringing us to understand here, a lot of
- 17:37people. Will come and knock on your door
- 17:39and tell you about a. Jesus that they believe in.
- 17:42It is not the Jesus of the. Scripture and that's what John
- 17:46is pointing out here. You have to believe in the
- 17:49Jesus. Of the scripture first.
- 17:53John Chapter 4, verse 15, whoever.
- 17:57Confesses that Jesus is. The son of.
- 18:01God. Remains in him and he and God.
- 18:04There's that word again. Confess whoever agrees with.
- 18:08What? The Bible has already said that.
- 18:12Person has the. Spirit of God.
- 18:15In him. That's why the Bible tells us if
- 18:18we confess our sins, it's not really telling us to.
- 18:21Tell God our sins. It's telling us.
- 18:24To agree with the Holy Spirit who has convicted.
- 18:27Us that we have sent and when we do.
- 18:31That he says he's faithful and just to.
- 18:33Forgive us of our. Sins and to cleanse us from all
- 18:38unrighteousness. Moving on to verse 11.
- 18:45And this is the testimony. That God has given to us eternal
- 18:50life, and this life is in his Son.
- 18:56He just keeps coming back to this this thing about eternal
- 18:59life. John has a point that he wants
- 19:03to make here. For the believers and He's.
- 19:06Bringing it home to them. Look back at first.
- 19:13John Chapter one verse. And the life was revealed.
- 19:23And we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal
- 19:28life. Which was with the Father and
- 19:32was revealed to us. He says This life.
- 19:38Was revealed. And we have seen it and.
- 19:42We have testify. And proclaim to you the eternal
- 19:50life which. Was with the Father and has been
- 19:54revealed to us. Now who was that?
- 19:57Jesus Christ, he says. We've seen him.
- 20:00He would go on to say we have touched him, Our eyes have seen
- 20:04him, we have touched him with our hands and we've handled.
- 20:06Him. He says this is eternal life.
- 20:14First John chapter 2 verse 25. This is the promise which.
- 20:19He himself made to us eternal. Life.
- 20:30You know, people make promises all the time.
- 20:28This is the. Sometimes they're kept,
- 20:35sometimes they are not. Paul as he was writing to
- 20:40Timothy. I'm sorry to Titus.
- 20:43In Titus chapter one verses one and two Paul.
- 20:49A slave of God and an. Apostle of Jesus Christ, for the
- 20:53faith of those chosen of God and the knowledge.
- 20:58Of the truth which is according to godliness in the hope of
- 21:05eternal life. Which God who cannot lie,
- 21:10promised? Ages ago.
- 21:13Now, isn't it? Good to have a.
- 21:15Testimony about God that He is the One Who.
- 21:19Can not lie. He has promised.
- 21:26What has he promised? He's promised to us the hope of
- 21:29eternal life. And I just want to keep going
- 21:32over this word. Hope because the English.
- 21:35Word isn't good enough for us, You know I.
- 21:40I hope. I get to tomorrow.
- 21:42Don't know if I will or not, but I hope.
- 21:43I get there. That's the English word but the
- 21:46Greek word. Here is the assured expectation,
- 21:51so let's read it that way. In the assured expectation of
- 21:58eternal life, which God who cannot lie.
- 22:01Promised a long time ago. What does an assured expectation
- 22:06mean? Something that you are.
- 22:08Sure of that you? Do not have right now, he says.
- 22:12That's the hope that we live in. That's how we.
- 22:14Live this life and we get this from the God who cannot lie.
- 22:20Who is promised so John, as he writes in First John 225.
- 22:26He says this is the promise. Which he himself made to us
- 22:33eternal life. John would further on this and
- 22:391st John 5/20 he says and we know that the son of.
- 22:44God has come and has given us understanding so that we might
- 22:49know Him who is true and we are in Him.
- 22:55Who is true in his Son Jesus? Christ, this is the.
- 23:00True God and. Eternal life.
- 23:05John just keeps on bringing this out that.
- 23:08Jesus. Christ is eternal life and that
- 23:13he has come. To share this with us in this
- 23:18next verse. Would be verse 12.
- 23:23John breaks the whole. In the two groups of people.
- 23:31He breaks the whole. World into.
- 23:33Two groups of people. Verse 12 says the one who has
- 23:38the son has life. The one who does not have the
- 23:42Son of God. Does not have life.
- 23:47There's not a room. Here for a third group.
- 23:50You either have the Son and have life, or you do not have the Son
- 23:54of God and you do not have life. And the life that is being
- 23:58talked about here is eternal life.
- 24:01John makes it clear this is how we can know where we stand.
- 24:09You know, you can just about Google, Google anything today.
- 24:15So I went and googled what was the population of the earth at
- 24:21the time of Christ? Came back with an answer, they
- 24:26said. There was about 300 million
- 24:29people. Living on the earth at the time
- 24:32that this was written, John broke those 300 million people
- 24:38into two groups, The one who has the son and the one who does not
- 24:44have the son. The same report goes on to.
- 24:47Tell us that the population. Of the earth was unchanged all
- 24:52the for about another 1000 years, and then in 18.
- 24:56O4 the population. Surpassed the 1 billion mark.
- 25:04But it was still true. That the ones who had the Son
- 25:08had life and the one. Who did not have the son did not
- 25:11have life. Our population records tells us
- 25:16today that we are approaching 8 billion people in the world.
- 25:23The Bible is still true. The one who has the Son has.
- 25:30Life and the one who does not have.
- 25:37It's just that simple. The Son of God does not have.
- 25:38People. There are two groups of people
- 25:39in the world. Two, you and I as Christians,
- 25:45make up one of those groups. And the other group would be
- 25:49those who do not have the son or the.
- 25:51Scripture would say they're. Sinners for you and for me every
- 26:02time we meet a new. Person our thought should be.
- 26:08What group are you in, Donna and I?
- 26:12Was down in Texas recently, if you don't know this.
- 26:17Texas has a travel center. Called Bucky's if you.
- 26:24Ever in Texas, you want to stop by Bucky's.
- 26:27So Donna and I. Was had visited Bucky's early in
- 26:31the morning. Donna's gone back.
- 26:32To the car and I was walking out.
- 26:34To the car and there was this young lady walked up beside me.
- 26:37She said good morning, Sir, said good morning, she says.
- 26:41I just want you to know that. Jesus.
- 26:43Loves you, and he has a wonderful plan for your life.
- 26:46As we chatted there. For a couple of moments and
- 26:49decided that we were both on our way to heaven.
- 26:51We greeted each other and we went our separate ways.
- 26:55I have a question for you. Why did she approach me?
- 27:03She wanted to know what group I was in.
- 27:06When she found out then we had a short time of fellowship.
- 27:11Here are two people leaving Bucky's and she decided I'm
- 27:15going to find out what group this guy's in and the benefit
- 27:20was. We got the fellowship for a
- 27:22little bit. You and I have to be in that
- 27:26same mind. Reference Meet this new person,
- 27:32How can I get? To the question.
- 27:35Of what group is this person in? If it's a believer.
- 27:40We get to rejoice. If it's not a believer, then we
- 27:44look for an opportunity to share that we might proclaim him.
- 27:49You see this third mark on the board.
- 27:51Over here. Our purpose is to proclaim him.
- 27:57That's what our purpose is. That's why we have been left
- 28:00here on this earth. To proclaim him.
- 28:03Who are we proclaiming him to? To those who do not know him,
- 28:07that's what our responsibility is.
- 28:14Now let's. Look at verse 13.
- 28:18These things have I written into you who believe in the name of
- 28:21the Son of God, that you might know.
- 28:26That you have eternal. Life when I was.
- 28:31Studying this years ago and I reviewed this this time.
- 28:35When I'm studying it, I I look. This word.
- 28:38No, up in about 20 different versions of the scripture.
- 28:46All of them translated the same way.
- 28:51That you may know that you have eternal life one writer.
- 28:58Said this is a. No.
- 29:00So salvation We aren't wondering whether we are saved or not.
- 29:06We can know. That we are saved.
- 29:12When John says in this verse these things, he is referring
- 29:17back to everything that he has written.
- 29:19Up to this point, these things have I written unto you.
- 29:26Let us. Look at a similar station, a
- 29:28statement in John's Gospel in John chapter 20 and verse 31.
- 29:39The Gospel of John, chapter 20, verse 31.
- 29:43These things, excuse me, but these have been written.
- 29:50So that you may believe in that. Jesus is the Christ, the Son of
- 29:56God, and by believing you may have life in His name.
- 30:04These things have been written. John is referring back.
- 30:09To what he is written from the first of the gospel.
- 30:12Up to this point. Now he tells us who he is
- 30:18writing to and why he is writing to unbelievers.
- 30:25So that they might come to believe.
- 30:28I find it interesting that John waits until chapter five of
- 30:34First John. To tell us who?
- 30:36He's writing to these things. Have I?
- 30:39Written unto you who believe. So now he's writing to
- 30:43believers. For what purpose?
- 30:46So that we may know that we have eternal life.
- 30:51If someone asks you. Today for the address.
- 30:54Of your home, you wouldn't say. Well, I think it's this.
- 30:59You would tell them what it is when someone asks you or you
- 31:04saved. We're not to say, I think.
- 31:08So we ought to say I know so. Why?
- 31:21Is and what it? Because of my belief in who?
- 31:20Jesus. Is that he has done and by the.
- 31:26Evidence in my life of my. Obeying him, having put my faith
- 31:32in him. This is not the first time, by
- 31:37the way, that John has made it clear that we can know this in
- 31:43first John chapter 3, verse 10. He says by this the children of
- 31:49God and the children of the. Devil are obvious.
- 31:53Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor
- 31:58the one who. Does not love his brother John
- 32:01is clear. There's a way to know whether.
- 32:04You are of the. Children of God or the children
- 32:06of the Devil? And he says it's obvious you
- 32:11don't have to. Well, I think that person.
- 32:15Is saved. Or I think I'm.
- 32:17Saved, he says it's. Why is it obvious?
- 32:22It's obvious because of your conduct, he said.
- 32:26The one who does not practice righteousness is not of God.
- 32:32If your lifestyle is more of unrighteousness than it is of
- 32:38righteousness, John says, there's a problem.
- 32:42You can claim all you want to that you are his child, but
- 32:49you're not my middle. Son lives in that category and
- 33:00when I challenged him on it, he said.
- 33:01Dad, you are too serious about this stuff.
- 33:05My response is son you are not serious enough and if you die in
- 33:11that condition. You're headed for a Godless.
- 33:15Eternity now we can't change people, but we can share.
- 33:24And that's what you and I have been.
- 33:26Called to do our. Purpose is to proclaim him.
- 33:33John says I write unto. Those who believe so that they
- 33:38might know that they have eternal life.
- 33:43First John, chapter one, verse 4.
- 33:45John says these things we write so that our.
- 33:50Joy may be complete. I write these things so that our
- 33:56joy may be complete. John is telling us to know that
- 34:03you have eternal life. Is to know complete?
- 34:10Doesn't mean there are no problems.
- 34:13Doesn't mean that death won't come into your family.
- 34:18It means when it does, God. Gives you.
- 34:22Comfort. And that's the thing that he's
- 34:25pointing to us. John, through the inspiration of
- 34:30the Holy Spirit, wants us to know that eternal life.
- 34:33That we have eternal life, although eternal life is living
- 34:39with God forever. It is more than just living
- 34:44forever. It is the quality of life we
- 34:48live now and. Forever as a.
- 34:54Christian, I'm not waiting to get to heaven to enjoy my.
- 34:58Eternal life. I experience it now.
- 35:03With the joy that God brings to me, and with the comfort He
- 35:07gives to me and the opportunity He gives me to share and to
- 35:11bring this to others. That's because I have the
- 35:16eternal life. That he has given unto.
- 35:18Us that we might know him and that we might.
- 35:25Follow him. It is with this knowledge.
- 35:31That we, the children of God, know that we have eternal life,
- 35:36that we come to receive the elements this morning that's on
- 35:41the table. It is out of that confidence
- 35:48that we come to this time. We don't just come because we
- 35:52did it last first Sunday. Or.
- 35:54Because we've been doing this for years, we do it because of
- 35:57the confidence that God gives. Us in Him that we have eternal.
- 36:03Life and If you are here this morning and not a member of the
- 36:09church, but you are a believer, you are welcome to join us as.
- 36:14We come to this point, Paul writes in First Corinthians 11,
- 36:24starting at verse 23. He says.
- 36:28For I received from the Lord. That which I also delivered to
- 36:31you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was.
- 36:36Betrayed took bread and when he had given thanks he broke it and
- 36:42said this is my body. Which is for you.
- 36:47Do this in remembrance of me in the same way.
- 36:51He took the cup after supper, saying, This is the cup in the
- 36:58new Test, in the new covenant, in my blood.
- 37:01Do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me, for as
- 37:08often as. You eat this bread and drink.
- 37:12This cup you proclaim the Lord's.
- 37:17Death until he comes. Every time we take the cup.
- 37:24We are saying. That it represents the blood
- 37:26that. Jesus Christ has shed for us.
- 37:29On the cross, and therefore we are proclaiming to each other.
- 37:35That. This has been done so we can
- 37:37then go out and proclaim to others that they might come and
- 37:43join us and have this fellowship that we have in here.
- 37:49As the men come down, let us. Pray Father, we thank you for
- 37:52our time in your word. Ask that you would direct us
- 37:56now? As we prepare our hearts to
- 38:01receive this representation of your body and your blood, in
- 38:06Jesus name we pray. Amen.
