- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark. I'm Megan, a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater who now co
- 0:29Speaker 1: hosts a Hallmark podcast.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Today's episode is a special one because yes, we are
- 0:35Speaker 2: talking about a Netflix series, but before anyone panics, Ripple
- 0:39Speaker 2: was originally developed for Hallmark before making its way to Netflix,
- 0:43Speaker 2: which explains why it kind of has that familiar feel
- 0:46Speaker 2: that we know and love. So if you're new here,
- 0:48Speaker 2: welcome and to our Hallmark faithful, don't worry. We're still
- 0:51Speaker 2: very much in our Hallmark era. We're just excited to
- 0:54Speaker 2: follow a story that still carries out Hallmark DNA, even
- 0:57Speaker 2: if it's streaming somewhere else. Today we will be discussing
- 1:01Speaker 2: season one, episode one of Ripple, which is now streaming
- 1:05Speaker 2: on Netflix. The episode is titled A Stone's Throw and
- 1:10Speaker 2: for everyone we are on all of the socials as
- 1:13Speaker 2: Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Hey, if you have.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Thoughts on Ripple or anything else, quite frankly, email us
- 1:19Speaker 2: Girls Gone Hallmark at gmail dot com. We do a
- 1:22Speaker 2: sort of regular mailbag episode where we read emails from
- 1:26Speaker 2: listeners with their thoughts, so you can do that if
- 1:30Speaker 2: you have thoughts on Ripple. We are going to be
- 1:33Speaker 2: dropping our reviews weekly through the end of the series. Correct,
- 1:38Speaker 2: So if you are.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Watching and have some thoughts and want to jump in
- 1:41Speaker 1: the discussion, please girls, go one Hallmark at gmail dot com.
- 1:46Speaker 2: We're going to kick off our discussion of Ripple season one,
- 1:49Speaker 2: episode one with a synopsis.
- 1:51Speaker 1: The episode is titled a Stone's Throw, a greeting man
- 1:55Speaker 1: and music exec, a father in crisis, a conflicted woman,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and a pebble that causes a ripple effect, connecting the
- 2:02Speaker 1: lives of our for strangers. For anybody new to the podcast,
- 2:05Speaker 1: we do a segment of top that we call News
- 2:07Speaker 1: and Notes where we run through the people who are
- 2:09Speaker 1: involved in the creation of the show. We're gonna kick
- 2:11Speaker 1: it off with talking about our director. Episode one was
- 2:14Speaker 1: directed by Amanda Tapping. Amanda has fifty six directing credits,
- 2:18Speaker 1: which include series like The one hundred and With an E, Motherland,
- 2:22Speaker 1: Fort Salem, and Murder in a Small Town. The writers
- 2:25Speaker 1: for episode one are Michelle Gianusa, Ava Taylor, and Jerry
- 2:30Speaker 1: Kanto Georgis.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Michelle is the showrunner of Ripple. She has just one
- 2:34Speaker 2: previous writing and producing credit, The Dead Girls Detective Agency.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Ava Taylor also has just one additional writing credit for
- 2:41Speaker 2: the television show Good Trouble And This is Jerry Kanto
- 2:45Speaker 2: Georges's first writing credit.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Kind of surprised by all of that. Yes, it's a
- 2:52Speaker 1: complicated story. I agree. I can't even imagine, like the
- 2:57Speaker 1: murder board that they.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Created, you know, I do know what you're talking about,
- 3:01Speaker 2: to weave all this together, red strings, tying all of
- 3:04Speaker 2: our characters together.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Frankie Faison plays Walter. He's known for The Wire
- 3:11Speaker 1: Banshee and Coming to America. Faison brings a wealth of
- 3:14Speaker 1: experience and warmth to the role. His acclaimed work in
- 3:18Speaker 1: the Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain and recent roles in Hello
- 3:21Speaker 1: Tomorrow and The Rookie Fed's hint At a depth he
- 3:24Speaker 1: can bring to Walter.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Julia Chan plays the character of Chris. Julia Chan's past
- 3:29Speaker 2: work includes Netflix's Archive eighty one, The CW's Katie Keene,
- 3:35Speaker 2: and Bell Media's Saving Hope.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Ian Harding plays Nate. Ian is well known for Pretty
- 3:40Speaker 1: Little Liars. He has appeared in movies like Ford Versus
- 3:44Speaker 1: Ferrari and Hallmark's The Magic of Lemon Drops, as well
- 3:47Speaker 1: as the limited Hallmark series Holidays.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Sidney Agadong is a singer songwriter who appears as Aria.
- 3:56Speaker 2: She has thirteen total acting credits. She appeared in the
- 4:00Speaker 2: live action Leelo and Stitch, as well as the TV
- 4:04Speaker 2: movie Trapped in the Farmhouse?
- 4:07Speaker 1: Is that a Lifetime joint?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Probably?
- 4:10Speaker 1: Marcy t House appears as widow Tara. Marcy has a
- 4:14Speaker 1: wopping one hundred and twenty six acting credits and most
- 4:17Speaker 1: recently appeared in eight episodes of Murder in a Small Town.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Sarah Swire plays Ellis. Sarah has twenty five acting credits,
- 4:24Speaker 2: most recently appearing in the series Murdoch Mysteries and The
- 4:27Speaker 2: Last Frontier.
- 4:28Speaker 1: How cool is the name Ellis?
- 4:30Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Hey, let's take a quick break and
- 4:32Speaker 2: we're gonna come right back with our first impressions of
- 4:34Speaker 2: this episode of Ripple. Hey, Wendy, what was your first
- 4:45Speaker 2: impression of episode one of Ripple? It's more about the series, Yeah,
- 4:52Speaker 2: and all my notes say is wow season two immediately. Yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 2: my first impression is a low emotional world building. Final boss,
- 5:04Speaker 2: let me ask you, were you surprised by this show?
- 5:09Speaker 2: Was I surprised? I will tell you spoiler alert. I
- 5:13Speaker 2: very much enjoyed it. I will tell you this does
- 5:17Speaker 2: not feel like a Hallmark show, So I'm surprised in
- 5:20Speaker 2: that sense, got it? Can I tell you my very
- 5:23Speaker 2: first like, yes, no shade to Hallmark, but I'm honestly
- 5:27Speaker 2: so happy this didn't air on Hallmark because people would
- 5:31Speaker 2: not have rallied for it.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Ripple is exactly the kind of show that Hallmark traditionalist
- 5:37Speaker 1: would have torched, right, And like I say, no shade
- 5:41Speaker 1: to the Hallmark fan. I'm a Hallmark fan, but.
- 5:44Speaker 2: This is so not Hallmark. It's not Hallmark. It's not Hallmark,
- 5:49Speaker 2: and I would love if this is the direction Hallmark
- 5:51Speaker 2: was headed.
- 5:52Speaker 1: So do I and I think it's a real misstep
- 5:55Speaker 1: that they let this go.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I think if it premiered on Hallmark or Home which
- 6:00Speaker 1: it was originally for Hallmark Plus, Is that right? Yes?
- 6:03Speaker 1: I think we'd be looking at another Providence Falls, which
- 6:07Speaker 1: was a three part mini series on Hallmark Channel that
- 6:11Speaker 1: wasn't super well received.
- 6:14Speaker 2: No, but if you're listening to this and you have
- 6:16Speaker 2: a Hallmark Plus subscription, it's worth checking out that series.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah. The reason why I, in my opinion, think that
- 6:24Speaker 1: the fans wouldn't like wouldn't have liked this on Hallmark
- 6:27Speaker 1: is because it's not built on the guaranteed tidy ending correct,
- 6:35Speaker 1: And as we record this, I have seen the first
- 6:38Speaker 1: three episodes. I haven't seen the whole series yet. I
- 6:42Speaker 1: don't know how it ends.
- 6:43Speaker 2: It's not built on familiarity, right there's you know, Hallmark
- 6:47Speaker 2: follows a very familiar structure. It's why they're so successful,
- 6:50Speaker 2: and this is not built on that, and that's why
- 6:52Speaker 2: it works. Look this pilot, this is one of the
- 6:55Speaker 2: things I liked. They're setting the stage, like the emotional
- 6:58Speaker 2: narration that we get from Aria. Small choices change big things.
- 7:02Speaker 2: We're all strangers before we meet. I mean, it kind
- 7:04Speaker 2: of like sets the mood, lets us know where we're going,
- 7:07Speaker 2: and then they just weave this tapestry of all these
- 7:11Speaker 2: tiny little choices that ultimately push these characters closer together.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Now I have not seen beyond episode one yet, but
- 7:19Speaker 2: I feel like, and I could be wrong, we're then
- 7:22Speaker 2: going to dig deeper into these characters' lives, perhaps see
- 7:25Speaker 2: bits and pieces of their past, how they came to be.
- 7:29Speaker 2: But this just the way it brings us all together
- 7:32Speaker 2: at the end of the episode is masterful.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I think so too, And like I said, I don't
- 7:38Speaker 1: want to spoil anything, but in episode two you'll see
- 7:42Speaker 1: like the ripple effects, there's other like fringe people, like
- 7:45Speaker 1: it's you know, like it keeps growing bigger and bigger
- 7:48Speaker 1: and bigger.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And then it's the girl in the hospital.
- 7:50Speaker 1: The girl in the hospital, there's her brother, like in
- 7:54Speaker 1: all these like you know, these kind of characters where
- 7:58Speaker 1: you at first watch would be like they're not significant
- 8:01Speaker 1: to the story, but like it's just all like weaving together.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I would say this is the kind of
- 8:06Speaker 2: show like you should watch twice, because I watched it twice,
- 8:09Speaker 2: and there are things you will miss until you realize
- 8:13Speaker 2: that you're like, oh wait, that was significant, and then
- 8:15Speaker 2: you go back and then you see how they laid
- 8:17Speaker 2: the ground work for that moment exactly exactly. Let's dig
- 8:21Speaker 2: into some things that we liked about this episode more specifically.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Huge, huge shout out to Andrea Higgins, who is the
- 8:30Speaker 1: music supervisor for this show. I felt the music is
- 8:35Speaker 1: doing some of the emotional heavy lifting in this episode.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I freaking loved it. If you're familiar with our reviews
- 8:44Speaker 1: our podcast Hallmark in General, there's a show actually it's
- 8:48Speaker 1: on Netflix too. A show called The Way Home, another show.
- 8:51Speaker 2: That has excellent music. This is the same format like
- 8:56Speaker 2: so good. It sets a tone it is He's so
- 9:00Speaker 2: so good.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So shout out to Andrea Higgins.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I really enjoyed Walter's grief storyline.
- 9:07Speaker 1: On Protect this Man at all Costs.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I enjoyed. I mean it ripped my heart out and
- 9:12Speaker 2: stomped on it. The slow realization of what has happened,
- 9:16Speaker 2: the silent hospital, voiceless reveal as she's passed his equally
- 9:24Speaker 2: silent breakdown again. All of this set to the music
- 9:27Speaker 2: that you talked about. When he walks in the door
- 9:30Speaker 2: alone with her bag of hospital belongings, he talks about
- 9:35Speaker 2: we get reveals like he's not sleeping, he's keeping her
- 9:38Speaker 2: side of the bed. The pebble moment he has back
- 9:42Speaker 2: at their spot where they met in the beginning of
- 9:44Speaker 2: the episode, the grief. He is showing us what he
- 9:48Speaker 2: is going through. I want to wrap this man in
- 9:51Speaker 2: a bubble. When we get to the end of the
- 9:54Speaker 2: episode and he's forming these new friendships with Ellis and
- 9:57Speaker 2: with Nate, I just feel so protective of his seem incredible.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Let's talk about the rest of the cast. Yes, I
- 10:05Speaker 2: personally feel like casting is.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Unreal in this. In this show Ian Harding. Obviously I
- 10:12Speaker 1: watch Pretty Little Liars. I know him from that show.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I review a lot of Hallmark movies. I know him
- 10:17Speaker 1: from Hallmark. I think he's great in this. He does.
- 10:23Speaker 1: He does a lot of emoting with his face yes,
- 10:26Speaker 1: and I feel, oh my gosh, the micro expressions, the
- 10:30Speaker 1: exhaustion he shows, the guilt, the tenderness. The scenes with
- 10:34Speaker 1: his wife make me physically uncomfortable. Right.
- 10:41Speaker 2: He's juggling a bar, He's in the middle of a
- 10:43Speaker 2: divorce that we don't fully understand the details of. He's
- 10:45Speaker 2: co parenting a daughter who is hard of hearing. And
- 10:48Speaker 2: that cough that makes me gives me that nerve. I
- 10:52Speaker 2: mean we know, obviously they don't tell us, but we
- 10:54Speaker 2: know the second he's coughing, this is bad. Like must
- 10:59Speaker 2: bidi'es me said, sins are tingling. When his wife's like,
- 11:01Speaker 2: maybe you need an antibiotic, I'm like, mmmm, so not great.
- 11:08Speaker 2: And that's when, like, when I'm watching this, I was like, oh,
- 11:11Speaker 2: how was this going to be on Hallmark? Right?
- 11:16Speaker 1: The amount of bad things happening in this first episode
- 11:22Speaker 1: I think might have scared people away.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think we're going to be redefining
- 11:27Speaker 2: what it means to have a show with a happy ending.
- 11:30Speaker 2: And look, I mean talk about the abount of bad things.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Let's talk about Aria. Aria is experiencing infertility, and we
- 11:38Speaker 2: also learned she's experiencing infidelity that.
- 11:41Speaker 1: She doesn't know about.
- 11:42Speaker 2: It, she does not know about and she's in therapy.
- 11:47Speaker 2: She's got stuff to deal with in therapy that she's
- 11:49Speaker 2: not even willing to talk about, because we see her
- 11:51Speaker 2: therapist try and push her to talk about certain things
- 11:53Speaker 2: and she changes the subject. There was something that caused
- 11:57Speaker 2: her to abandon her music at one point, she doesn't
- 11:59Speaker 2: want to talk about it. The therapist suggests that she's
- 12:02Speaker 2: angry about something else, not just her infertility, but she
- 12:06Speaker 2: doesn't want to talk about that. I mean, there's so
- 12:08Speaker 2: many layers to her. She's very she herself is not messy,
- 12:13Speaker 2: but her story is very messy. And there, I mean,
- 12:17Speaker 2: there's a lot going on there.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Her entire arc to me, feels like a slow car
- 12:23Speaker 1: crash that I can't turn away from. It is I
- 12:27Speaker 1: don't I don't know why I'm so drawn to her story.
- 12:32Speaker 1: It feels like it's gonna hurt the most and I
- 12:35Speaker 1: don't know why.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Finally we have Chris.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I love Chris, I love the character Chris. I love Julia.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Chan I was like, Okay, I need to do a
- 12:45Speaker 1: deep dive on her. Right.
- 12:47Speaker 2: She's great, She's really great, and like she just has
- 12:50Speaker 2: this strong presence when she storms into that bar and
- 12:53Speaker 2: she's like, I'll have your best read, and he's like,
- 12:56Speaker 2: we're not open, and she just she was not taking
- 12:59Speaker 2: from it for answer. She and Nate have such incredible
- 13:03Speaker 2: banter back and forth. I mean, they just give it
- 13:06Speaker 2: to each other this whole time, but they're developing this
- 13:09Speaker 2: beautiful relationship at the same time. I mean they almost
- 13:14Speaker 2: kiss what. On the one hand, I'm rooting for that.
- 13:17Speaker 2: On the other hand, I'm fairly certain that Nate just
- 13:19Speaker 2: received a terminal diagnosis on the phone, or at the
- 13:22Speaker 2: very least a not great diagnosis. Whether it's terminal or not.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Well, I'm waiting for you to be like, and he's
- 13:28Speaker 1: technically married.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Still he is technically married, but they've been separated for
- 13:33Speaker 2: a year. Yeah, he's yes, he's married. It seems like
- 13:38Speaker 2: the wife may be the hold up because he talks
- 13:40Speaker 2: about I'm looking for a new place. It's going to
- 13:43Speaker 2: be close to our daughter school. He's real short with her, yes,
- 13:46Speaker 2: and she's like, oh, you're just pushing it along. He's like,
- 13:49Speaker 2: it's been a year. Yeah, look, what's the backstory there?
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yeah? I need more backstory.
- 13:55Speaker 2: And when he shows up at the hospital, he's like,
- 13:57Speaker 2: the school's calling me telling me the check bounce.
- 13:58Speaker 1: What's going on? More story there?
- 14:01Speaker 2: Yes?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question. Did you ever watch
- 14:03Speaker 1: this series This is Us or a Million Little Things?
- 14:07Speaker 2: I watched This is Us, I didn't finish it. I've
- 14:09Speaker 2: never seen a million Little Things.
- 14:11Speaker 1: To me, this show is kind of in that lane
- 14:15Speaker 1: like this would have been Network TV. I'm trying, like
- 14:19Speaker 1: I was gonna say, like I was gonna compare it
- 14:22Speaker 1: to the Grays, but Maybearentoo Parenthood. Yeah, kind of heavier themes,
- 14:28Speaker 1: big ensemble cast, big ensemble cast. It works for me.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I also can see it's soft around the edges, which
- 14:38Speaker 1: makes me believe it was developed for Hallmark. If it
- 14:42Speaker 1: was originally developed for Netflix, it wouldn't have a little
- 14:46Speaker 1: more teeth to it, like maybe some cursing, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 1: get crazy, and it wouldn't if there was cursing in it, Like, look, guys,
- 14:56Speaker 1: I have a terrible potty mouth. If there was cursing
- 14:59Speaker 1: in it would be believable. Yeah, with what they're going through,
- 15:03Speaker 1: With what they're going through, exactly, exactly. Oh we didn't
- 15:07Speaker 1: talk about Ellis and Tara. Oh yes, I think these
- 15:11Speaker 1: are great additions to the cast. They're not the main four,
- 15:14Speaker 1: but they're definitely involved. When Tara goes to Walter's wife's
- 15:21Speaker 1: funeral and then gives him like a pamphlet for like
- 15:24Speaker 1: a support group or whatever, why is this woman so wonderful?
- 15:28Speaker 2: He tries to hand it back and she pushes his
- 15:31Speaker 2: hand back and says, what doesn't bend breaks, And then
- 15:35Speaker 2: he goes tells her this really isn't for me. When
- 15:38Speaker 2: she says, it's cool, I get it. Like we're going
- 15:41Speaker 2: through the same thing. I thought we could maybe connect
- 15:45Speaker 2: help each other out. So she's willing to meet him
- 15:49Speaker 2: where he is. The church support group isn't his thing,
- 15:53Speaker 2: and now they're going to develop this friendship because they
- 15:55Speaker 2: both lost their wives. The person I am perhaps in
- 16:00Speaker 2: intrigued about is Ellis. Tell me more so we see
- 16:05Speaker 2: Owen say I'm out, I'm getting a real job. I
- 16:09Speaker 2: can't sit around here waiting to be discovered. Come to
- 16:13Speaker 2: find out Chris, our music exec saw him, was charmed
- 16:17Speaker 2: and he took a corporate job. She says, man, Owen,
- 16:21Speaker 2: we were supposed to starve together forever.
- 16:24Speaker 1: We know.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Ellis is an artist. She's selling her designs on a
- 16:28Speaker 2: T shirt and Nate's like, someday you're going to be
- 16:30Speaker 2: in an art gallery, and the realization that Owen is
- 16:35Speaker 2: wrapping it up tapped out gives his guitar away. He's
- 16:38Speaker 2: moving on the look on her face when she realizes, Oh,
- 16:43Speaker 2: when am I going to have to make that same
- 16:45Speaker 2: choice for myself as well? What's her story there? I'm
- 16:50Speaker 2: very intrigued by Ellis. I also find her so charming
- 16:54Speaker 2: behind the bar. There's a character on TikTok that I'm
- 16:57Speaker 2: going to link to in the show notes, where it's
- 17:00Speaker 2: the bartender or the barista that everyone's in love with
- 17:04Speaker 2: that has this quiet coolness about them. I'm going to
- 17:07Speaker 2: link this TikTok because Ellis is giving that. And I'm
- 17:12Speaker 2: not knocking her performance by comparing it to a TikToker No,
- 17:16Speaker 2: but I hear what you're saying. She is the epitome
- 17:18Speaker 2: of like quiet cool.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Yeah, she's super cool. I want to see more of
- 17:23Speaker 1: that unfold as well. Now I have a bunch of
- 17:26Speaker 1: little a little likes. Can we go through them?
- 17:28Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 17:29Speaker 1: Loomy West is their cheers. It's there a central perk.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I love this choice. It gives the characters a home
- 17:35Speaker 1: base in a show that is all about chaos. Basically,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I love that Ny and Chris for me, have lightning
- 17:46Speaker 1: in a bottle chemistry. Yeah, I'm rooting for them.
- 17:50Speaker 2: And the man is married, I know, like he's separated.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I don't get hung up on this. I'm truly surprised
- 17:57Speaker 2: that you're not. I do feel like your relationship is over.
- 18:00Speaker 2: They're married a name only.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I agree with that.
- 18:03Speaker 2: When Chris walks into the bar, and that final scene
- 18:06Speaker 2: in the bar when they're all coming together, do you
- 18:08Speaker 2: see the way they connect across the room and their
- 18:11Speaker 2: eyes meet and they both smile at each other. Yeah,
- 18:13Speaker 2: my gosh, I love the way New York looks in this.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I can't remember where they filmed this, at some mare
- 18:21Speaker 2: Canadian I'm sure, But doesn't it make New York. It's
- 18:24Speaker 2: giving me as a girl who grew up watching Felicity,
- 18:27Speaker 2: it gives me those same sort of New York.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Vibes like I was so drawn Luca. I was so
- 18:32Speaker 1: drawn to New York City watching Felicity. It's the same
- 18:36Speaker 1: feeling I have watching this too. And I don't know
- 18:39Speaker 1: if they goronto okay, but I mean there's a lot
- 18:42Speaker 1: of like New York scenes obviously, but yeah, it just
- 18:45Speaker 1: makes it feel cool.
- 18:47Speaker 2: I guess my final thing that I really like about
- 18:50Speaker 2: it is that it feels a little voyeuristic watching this
- 18:54Speaker 2: show because the viewer knows how things are all are.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Connected, right, but they don't know. I don't it has
- 19:03Speaker 1: a term. I don't know what that's called in storytelling.
- 19:07Speaker 1: It just makes for compelling TV for me, Right, Like.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Walter and his wife didn't know that Chris runs right
- 19:13Speaker 2: behind them during their opening meeting, and Aria doesn't know
- 19:16Speaker 2: what the Pebble has done. And Aria doesn't know that
- 19:20Speaker 2: Chris basically followed her home, you know, deflex when Aria
- 19:25Speaker 2: asked her, Oh do you live in the building? Oh no,
- 19:27Speaker 2: I know, you know, right, Like, yeah, they don't know
- 19:30Speaker 2: all of these things. Question for you the cuff link moment,
- 19:34Speaker 2: Yeah we know because they flash on it when he
- 19:37Speaker 2: comes home from the bar. They kind of zoom in
- 19:39Speaker 2: on that. When Chris meets Aria's husband.
- 19:40Speaker 1: She's like, do I know you?
- 19:41Speaker 2: And then she's like, oh, probably not. Do you think
- 19:44Speaker 2: she actually recognized him as the guy in the bar
- 19:46Speaker 2: or do you think she was just like, oh, that
- 19:47Speaker 2: face is familiar.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I think it was just that face is familiar. Yeah,
- 19:51Speaker 1: she may put two and two together eventually.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Let's talk what we wished for in this episode.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Honestly, I don't have any real wishes yet. I did
- 19:59Speaker 1: mention it earlier that if anything I have like my wishes,
- 20:02Speaker 1: I wish it would have been developed for Netflix from
- 20:07Speaker 1: the ground up, because then it would have had a
- 20:08Speaker 1: little more punch grit to it.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Yeah. I just have a few little wishes so early
- 20:13Speaker 2: in the show. I'm just waiting for more world building
- 20:18Speaker 2: into these characters because we just get such a lightwash
- 20:21Speaker 2: of several of them. I already miss Brenda. I understand that,
- 20:25Speaker 2: like her death is kind of the emotional heart of
- 20:28Speaker 2: this episode, but I also could have used like two
- 20:31Speaker 2: more little scenes of their marriage before he loses her.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I hope we get her in future episodes.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yeah, as memories or whatever.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Yeah, she was great for the John Aria infidelity reveal.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I felt like maybe it was a little bit too
- 20:47Speaker 2: quick that we find out it was him, Like, I
- 20:50Speaker 2: feel like we could have had that moment a little
- 20:52Speaker 2: it like a little slow burned out about what's going
- 20:55Speaker 2: on with the two of them. And then I just
- 20:57Speaker 2: have a lot of questions, like I assume that Chris
- 20:59Speaker 2: was fired, but we don't see her get fired, Like
- 21:01Speaker 2: did she just decide like, oh, this isn't working for me?
- 21:04Speaker 2: Like what happened there? I really want to know more
- 21:05Speaker 2: about all of these people, but I probably have the
- 21:07Speaker 2: most questions about Nate's situation at this particular point. What's
- 21:11Speaker 2: going on with the marriage. And I also feel like
- 21:14Speaker 2: there's more going on with the daughter, like when he
- 21:17Speaker 2: loses it with her, is that just a moment of
- 21:18Speaker 2: like I'm sick? You know, kids can kind of be
- 21:21Speaker 2: frustrating or are they having trouble connecting already?
- 21:24Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, the little girl that plays the daughter,
- 21:28Speaker 1: she reminds me so much of your daughter, like when
- 21:31Speaker 1: she was little, like that those big brown eyes and
- 21:33Speaker 1: that all that brown hair. Yeah, she's real cute. Yeah,
- 21:37Speaker 1: Well let's talk.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Did you see that moment? I have a couple Okay,
- 21:40Speaker 2: let's hear it. Pretty little liars. Fans know that the
- 21:44Speaker 2: name Aria.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Oh it made me double take for a second. Ian
- 21:52Speaker 1: Harding's character I can't even remember his name of his
- 21:55Speaker 1: character on Pretty Little Liars, but he was a teacher
- 21:57Speaker 1: who got involved with the student. The student's name is Ari.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I have real mixed feelings about it, but it are
- 22:03Speaker 2: you is not a name you hear that often, and
- 22:06Speaker 2: for it to play in this is kind of interesting.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I'm thought, I thought that was really I don't even
- 22:10Speaker 2: know if it's clever.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I didn't. I don't know if it like, oh yeah,
- 22:14Speaker 1: exactly exactly. The other thing, when the little girl who
- 22:18Speaker 1: is hard of hearing it, runs out into the street
- 22:20Speaker 1: in front of the car, I gasped out loud. Can
- 22:24Speaker 1: you imagine being a parent of a child who cannot
- 22:27Speaker 1: hear and you're trying to get their attention? Oh my god,
- 22:31Speaker 1: can you put yourself in that driver's perspective?
- 22:34Speaker 2: The emotional beats around parenting that daughter. When the mom
- 22:39Speaker 2: like she's getting frustrated, she and Nate are getting heated,
- 22:42Speaker 2: and he's like stop yelling. She's like why, it's not
- 22:44Speaker 2: like she can hear me, and then she like gasps,
- 22:47Speaker 2: and Liz like shocked at herself.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's there. Their situation is complicated, Yes, very messy.
- 22:57Speaker 1: My only other did you see that is something you
- 22:59Speaker 1: bumped on earlier. This show does require close watching. Yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 1: to watch it once or twice, because you'll see things
- 23:08Speaker 1: that are connected that maybe you don't catch the first
- 23:11Speaker 1: time around.
- 23:12Speaker 2: M mmmm hmm. Yeah. I think the magic in this
- 23:16Speaker 2: show is to what you said about everything that it
- 23:21Speaker 2: reveals to the viewer that it has not revealed to
- 23:23Speaker 2: those participating in it. The Blue Pebble cameo tour, which
- 23:27Speaker 2: ties all of our main characters together in a way
- 23:29Speaker 2: that they are unaware of. At this point, Nate does
- 23:34Speaker 2: not appear to be worried at all about his cough
- 23:37Speaker 2: and eventual CT scan, but I feel like those womens
- 23:40Speaker 2: are screaming to the viewer. Yeah, you know the fact
- 23:43Speaker 2: that the doctor talked about it. I actually really loved
- 23:45Speaker 2: that scene with the doctor. The writing is so good.
- 23:49Speaker 2: The choices we make now matter, but the choices we
- 23:52Speaker 2: made in the past matter too. And then he's like,
- 23:55Speaker 2: no judgment except for the sugar thing. Everyone needs a
- 23:57Speaker 2: cooking now, and then something about that's speech.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Also the filling of the biopsy scene. I thought that
- 24:05Speaker 2: the tone of that was perfect three to four days,
- 24:09Speaker 2: you'll have the results whatever, she says, Like everything about
- 24:11Speaker 2: it is so clinical and so exactly how it goes,
- 24:14Speaker 2: and so very like buy the book. Yeah, because they
- 24:16Speaker 2: just churned through these and the vast montory of time.
- 24:19Speaker 2: It's nothing and no big deal and you go on
- 24:20Speaker 2: with your life. I love the little bit about Nate
- 24:24Speaker 2: that he can't stop talking. He just kind of brings
- 24:26Speaker 2: things up. Can't stop talking to the doctor, talks to
- 24:29Speaker 2: the tech doing the biopsy. Oh, I like I used
- 24:32Speaker 2: to like strawberries. Yea.
- 24:33Speaker 1: He just fills the quiet, spills the time.
- 24:36Speaker 2: And the episode ending mic drop of Aria showing up
- 24:40Speaker 2: at the bar but not going in.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I had to watch that scene several times because I
- 24:46Speaker 1: was like, does she see something through the window? Does
- 24:49Speaker 1: she see her husband? Does she see a reflection? What
- 24:52Speaker 1: makes her spin out and run away from it?
- 24:54Speaker 2: Yeah? Does she just panic? Because when you the shot
- 24:58Speaker 2: is really interesting. She looks through the window and they
- 25:00Speaker 2: show it coming in and out of focus. Yeah, So
- 25:02Speaker 2: is there something about is she recognizing someone? Is there
- 25:06Speaker 2: another connection that we aren't aware of, or is she
- 25:10Speaker 2: just like I can't Yeah, why is she backing off?
- 25:15Speaker 2: There's something about her story that makes her afraid. Yeah,
- 25:20Speaker 2: excellent series. I'm still very excited to see where this goes.
- 25:24Speaker 2: This is a must watch show. It was trending on
- 25:26Speaker 2: Netflix yesterday. I saw I Love when it breaks the
- 25:30Speaker 2: top ten.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Me too. My worry is this And if you guys
- 25:33Speaker 1: didn't know, this was filmed a while ago, quite some
- 25:35Speaker 1: time ago. If Netflix is like yo, I think it's Lionsgate,
- 25:39Speaker 1: who actually is Yeah, if they say we want to
- 25:42Speaker 1: do another season, is it too late for that? I don't.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I don't know how that works.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Like, have these actors moved on to do other things?
- 25:48Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 25:49Speaker 2: I mean I think if Netflix has come back, they're
- 25:51Speaker 2: gonna come back show me the money, right, you know.
- 25:55Speaker 2: I think it's all not that all that unusual for
- 25:57Speaker 2: stuff to be that spaced out, especially in this day
- 25:59Speaker 2: and age of streaming, where we drop it all and
- 26:01Speaker 2: then it's going to be another full year plus before
- 26:04Speaker 2: we get something new.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Fair.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I think it's not that unfortunately unusual.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I do also think it's a weird drop that Netflix
- 26:13Speaker 1: put it out at the beginning of December. Is there
- 26:16Speaker 1: any holiday sprinkled in? We don't know timeframe? Right?
- 26:21Speaker 2: Have they told us, like, what part of the year.
- 26:23Speaker 1: We're in I don't think I don't think I've really
- 26:26Speaker 1: and they are wearing jackets though, so maybe it probably
- 26:29Speaker 1: doesn't matter. It just is interesting to me that Netflix
- 26:31Speaker 1: just was like, all right, let's put it out right December.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Here we go, Here we go.
