The historic Chester Lewis Academy in northeast Wichita, once home to multiple schools and standing for 75 years, is finally coming down after years of safety issues like mold and structural damage forced its closure. Though the district had planned to replace it with an early childhood center funded by a 2025 bond — which failed — the site’s future remains uncertain as the new bond proposal this November doesn’t include it.
