- 0:58Speaker 6: An excited man? We got a special Yes for sure.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Very served, guys.
- 1:02Speaker 4: I said, we got special guests to my left, newly
- 1:06Speaker 4: appointed head coach at Butler, Sir Coach Ron Nory, how
- 1:10Speaker 4: you doing, man? We appreciate you, good man. Appreciate you
- 1:12Speaker 4: having man. Appreciate you man. Before we start off, we
- 1:18Speaker 4: kind of started this podcast. We all guys who used
- 1:21Speaker 4: to hoop. We don't really hoop no more so we
- 1:24Speaker 4: coached either. So when when was that time that you
- 1:28Speaker 4: knew it was time to hang up the shoots? Last
- 1:30Speaker 4: summer was.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I was.
- 1:32Speaker 7: I was in a little men's league last summer in Atlanta,
- 1:37Speaker 7: and you know, people started to pick me up full court.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Pressing. I started talking trash and yeah, all right, you know.
- 1:47Speaker 7: I still thinking I can do what I used to
- 1:48Speaker 7: I couldn't do a lot, but still think I can do.
- 1:51Speaker 5: You know what I used to be able to do.
- 1:52Speaker 5: I just couldn't.
- 1:52Speaker 8: So I was like, all right, it's time to hang
- 1:55Speaker 8: them up. It's time, it's time to be done. Get
- 1:57Speaker 8: the best of us, all of us. We usually start
- 2:01Speaker 8: to show off with the coaching spotlight.
- 2:03Speaker 4: So since you were our first, you know, college coach,
- 2:06Speaker 4: we want to spotlight you about your coaching career, how
- 2:10Speaker 4: you got into it first. I actually didn't know this
- 2:14Speaker 4: when you got done player, you were the head coach
- 2:16Speaker 4: at Brownsburg High School, My first job. How did that
- 2:19Speaker 4: come about? Yeah, I didn't know that either.
- 2:21Speaker 5: How it was Yeah, it's funny.
- 2:25Speaker 7: So the long story I try to give it to
- 2:27Speaker 7: you quickly, is so the Super Bowl was here in
- 2:31Speaker 7: Indye my senior year, and we were having this big
- 2:36Speaker 7: super Bowl party at my house and we were playing
- 2:38Speaker 7: Detroit at home. I got tripped and fell on the floor.
- 2:42Speaker 7: I smashed my face on the floor and broke my teeth. Wow,
- 2:46Speaker 7: and uh, you know yeah, like someboddy like they like
- 2:50Speaker 7: took my hands out. I was about to turn it over,
- 2:52Speaker 7: so I dove for the ball to try to get
- 2:54Speaker 7: the ball back and both my hands got caught. My
- 2:56Speaker 7: face went or just throw my teeth up. So we're
- 3:00Speaker 7: preparing for the super Bowl party. I couldn't eat anything
- 3:02Speaker 7: because I couldn't chew, you know, I could barely talk.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Well.
- 3:06Speaker 7: The next practice or a couple of practices later, you know,
- 3:08Speaker 7: it's just a normal practice or whatever. You know, did
- 3:11Speaker 7: my thing, and then before I went to the conference
- 3:14Speaker 7: tournament that year. The horizon of the conference tournament, Brad
- 3:16Speaker 7: was like, Hey, I want to talk to you when
- 3:18Speaker 7: you get back. So we get back from the tournament
- 3:20Speaker 7: and he's like, hey, the game, after the practice, after
- 3:23Speaker 7: you hurt your teeth. The superintendent, his name is Jim Snapper,
- 3:27Speaker 7: Brownsburg Schools, was at that practice.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Wow.
- 3:30Speaker 7: To see how you were interacting with the team, seeing
- 3:32Speaker 7: how you were going to act, all that stuff, see
- 3:34Speaker 7: if you know what people said about you was real.
- 3:37Speaker 7: And I got my job because he, the superintendent, showed
- 3:41Speaker 7: up to a random practice that I had no idea.
- 3:43Speaker 7: My teeth were all busted up, and so that was
- 3:46Speaker 7: a blessing. But it was a great experience. You know,
- 3:48Speaker 7: any in high school basketball is as good as it gets.
- 3:51Speaker 7: Coaches are unbelievable. We lost the Pike, by the way.
- 3:53Speaker 5: At Pike, the coaches were unbelievable.
- 3:56Speaker 7: And so to be able to have my first job
- 3:58Speaker 7: against some of these great coaches in this they you know,
- 4:00Speaker 7: really good players, d one players every single night.
- 4:03Speaker 5: Was it was a good way to start my career.
- 4:05Speaker 4: That's dope, man, that's no better do me for dudes,
- 4:08Speaker 4: you know, But I didn't know he coached at Brownsburg.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I said, I've been coaching high school basketball for eleven years.
- 4:14Speaker 4: It was probably I wasn't that Pike. Yet when we
- 4:16Speaker 4: beat you guys, I don't think we ever lost the browns.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Burglet's put that in there, but not yet, like.
- 4:24Speaker 5: You lost the Brownsberg. But it was going Hayward, I
- 4:26Speaker 5: was a freshman. Yeah he turned it.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, he definitely turned So after that Brownsburg that
- 4:36Speaker 4: start stint. Uh you transition into the G League? How
- 4:40Speaker 4: was that transition for you?
- 4:43Speaker 5: It was a great transition.
- 4:44Speaker 7: Uh. You know, I was there in Boston with Brad
- 4:47Speaker 7: and you know, he told me like, hey, you're going
- 4:49Speaker 7: to start in the G League, and so you know,
- 4:52Speaker 7: the two The kind of theme of my career is
- 4:55Speaker 7: I've been able to coach right from the jump. You know.
- 4:57Speaker 7: It was not like, uh, you know, a or video
- 5:01Speaker 7: coordinator things like that. So my first job, I was
- 5:03Speaker 7: a head coach. My second job, I was an assistant,
- 5:06Speaker 7: you know for a pro team, you know, and so
- 5:09Speaker 7: like it was just me being throwing the fire and
- 5:11Speaker 7: I you know, if I look back, I can't remember
- 5:13Speaker 7: every day from that year, but if I look back,
- 5:15Speaker 7: it looked at myself coaching I would probably you know,
- 5:17Speaker 7: think I was crazy and terrible coach. But I got
- 5:20Speaker 7: to experience it. I just got to do it, and
- 5:21Speaker 7: so to be able to do that to coach pros.
- 5:24Speaker 7: A lot of these guys at that time were just
- 5:26Speaker 7: older than me or my age, and so to be
- 5:30Speaker 7: able to you know, learn how to interact as a
- 5:33Speaker 7: coach with guys like that was It's something that helped
- 5:35Speaker 7: me even throughout my NBA career when I was coaching
- 5:37Speaker 7: the NBA, because that was every team I was a
- 5:39Speaker 7: part of.
- 5:40Speaker 2: How was it coaching guys that's the same age as you,
- 5:43Speaker 2: they can relate better to you, or they kind of
- 5:46Speaker 2: like bro were.
- 5:46Speaker 5: The same age, Like, how was it? Yeah?
- 5:48Speaker 7: I mean I figured it out, you know, I think
- 5:51Speaker 7: all of us know, just the relationship that you build
- 5:53Speaker 7: with guys is most important, you know. But I was
- 5:57Speaker 7: never a guy that was like, you know, hanging out
- 5:59Speaker 7: with the guy, you know. I always kept that coach
- 6:02Speaker 7: relationship for sure, that coach player relationship, you know, a
- 6:05Speaker 7: little separate, so that you know, when it came down
- 6:07Speaker 7: to it, you know, I could coach them.
- 6:10Speaker 5: But I think, you.
- 6:11Speaker 7: Know, we all know, like guys want to know you're
- 6:13Speaker 7: with them, but they also want to know you know
- 6:14Speaker 7: what you're talking about, you know, And so I think
- 6:16Speaker 7: just being a real dude you know them knowing what
- 6:18Speaker 7: you're talking about was something that allowed me to just
- 6:20Speaker 7: coach guys even though we're my age or older.
- 6:23Speaker 4: That's dope, man, that's dope. I guess from there, I mean,
- 6:27Speaker 4: you've been all over every level.
- 6:30Speaker 7: You move fast to like one year, stop trying to
- 6:33Speaker 7: slow down now, I'm not going.
- 6:35Speaker 4: To Yeah, but you transition into college. What's the biggest
- 6:41Speaker 4: difference from I guess the pros to the college level.
- 6:45Speaker 5: Now or when I when I coached with that first time.
- 6:48Speaker 7: Yeah, I was at Northern Kentucky University and we were
- 6:52Speaker 7: actually it was we couldn't go to the install of
- 6:55Speaker 7: a tournament that year. It was the last year at
- 6:56Speaker 7: their transition from D two to D one before you transition,
- 6:59Speaker 7: so we couldn't go to the tournament.
- 7:02Speaker 5: Man, there's a lot of differences.
- 7:03Speaker 7: I think the biggest one though, is the amount of
- 7:05Speaker 7: time you spend with the guys.
- 7:07Speaker 5: Yeah. You know, like you go on the road, you
- 7:09Speaker 5: have your.
- 7:10Speaker 7: Team dinner, you have team film, you have like you're
- 7:14Speaker 7: just together all the time in college or in the NBA.
- 7:18Speaker 7: You land and I tell people all the time, like
- 7:22Speaker 7: you know, when I'm in the when I'm in the hotel.
- 7:24Speaker 5: I never see players in the hotel in the NBA,
- 7:26Speaker 5: you know, I see them we get on the bus.
- 7:28Speaker 5: So I think that's the biggest difference.
- 7:31Speaker 7: It's like the amount of time you spend in that,
- 7:32Speaker 7: you know, just that time together is a lot different.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Yet then obviously from there you the head coach at
- 7:39Speaker 4: Long Island with the next organization, and then after you
- 7:43Speaker 4: transitioned that, you went to the Hornets.
- 7:45Speaker 5: How was that working with the Hornets? That was great.
- 7:48Speaker 7: I was originally like going to be behind the bench
- 7:50Speaker 7: coach with them, and was fortunate to get on the bench.
- 7:54Speaker 7: You know, I think I was like twenty six or
- 7:56Speaker 7: twenty seven at that time.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Man.
- 7:58Speaker 7: I know, I've been super blessed of my career with
- 8:01Speaker 7: the opportunities that I have had, and so, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 7: it was just the next step in the journey. You
- 8:06Speaker 7: know that I got to coach Kimba who beat us
- 8:10Speaker 7: in the National Championship game.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 7: Yeah, And Jeremy Lamb was on that team, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 7: and so and Shelvin Mack ended up being on the team.
- 8:19Speaker 7: So it was Jay Lamb and Kimba, me and Shelvin
- 8:23Speaker 7: on the same team, and so like around the final
- 8:26Speaker 7: four they like, hey, let's do a let's do a
- 8:28Speaker 7: final four national championship. Like talking about but you know,
- 8:35Speaker 7: to coach a guy like Kimba, you know before he
- 8:38Speaker 7: got traded to Boston was man, kim was the best
- 8:41Speaker 7: dude ever. But to coach a guy at that level,
- 8:44Speaker 7: you know what he was doing, it was special. It
- 8:46Speaker 7: was forty you know, forty a night. You know, I'm
- 8:49Speaker 7: at six feet tall, you know, So No, that was
- 8:53Speaker 7: that was that was a great time.
- 8:56Speaker 4: No, I said, like Jeff mentioned, you're moving around, moving
- 9:00Speaker 4: up the ranks. You went to the Pacers and then
- 9:04Speaker 4: you finished your uh finished this last year with the Hawks.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Kind of talk about that Hawks group this year. I
- 9:11Speaker 4: know it was a little tough for you guys at
- 9:12Speaker 4: the beginning, but you guys finished strong. Can you talk
- 9:15Speaker 4: about how that year was?
- 9:16Speaker 5: This year? Special year? Special year?
- 9:19Speaker 7: Obviously we started our team to start the year was
- 9:21Speaker 7: a lot different than we ended. Yeah, you know, Trey
- 9:25Speaker 7: got hurt I think Game five at Brooklyn this.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Year, and really it was like, man, like, what what
- 9:30Speaker 5: are we going to look like?
- 9:32Speaker 7: You know, because Trey, Trey was so good and could
- 9:35Speaker 7: put us in any position at any time, and the
- 9:38Speaker 7: way the team came together, you know when he got hurt,
- 9:42Speaker 7: because we had to you know, like it wasn't just
- 9:45Speaker 7: like Trey's gonna get us out of touch spots, and
- 9:46Speaker 7: we had to come together and do that. And we
- 9:48Speaker 7: really were able to build something special. We want a
- 9:51Speaker 7: crazy run. And when he got hurt and then we
- 9:54Speaker 7: had a little rough pass. We had guys coming in
- 9:56Speaker 7: and out, you know, all year. Trey came back, you know,
- 9:59Speaker 7: Chris Stat was kind of in and out, and then
- 10:03Speaker 7: you know, the trade deadline happened, and then we had
- 10:05Speaker 7: we finally had the team. Yeah, and the almost exact
- 10:08Speaker 7: same thing happened again, you know, and we got the
- 10:10Speaker 7: great part.
- 10:11Speaker 5: We've got older, older guys. We got CJ. McCullum.
- 10:14Speaker 7: Uh, you know, we got Jack Landell like you know,
- 10:17Speaker 7: and so like to get these older guys that have
- 10:19Speaker 7: had the experience, they really helped the young group go
- 10:21Speaker 7: to the next level what we ended up seeing at
- 10:23Speaker 7: the end of the year. So I learned a lot
- 10:25Speaker 7: that year this year, and it was it was really
- 10:27Speaker 7: a special group.
- 10:28Speaker 2: What do you think, you know, we talked about the
- 10:30Speaker 2: Hawks a lot because Jeff, what do you think is
- 10:32Speaker 2: a piece they can get out of the draft that
- 10:33Speaker 2: can take them to that next level.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Man, that's a great question.
- 10:38Speaker 7: I haven't thought about the Hawks a lot since I
- 10:40Speaker 7: left a half months ago, so I don't know exactly
- 10:44Speaker 7: what's happening down there, you know, obviously, Like I think
- 10:48Speaker 7: it would be good to get a young point guard,
- 10:50Speaker 7: you know, somebody that's just like you know, just they
- 10:53Speaker 7: can play pick and roll, make every pass, make every read,
- 10:55Speaker 7: be a great defender. You know, there's a lot obviously, CJ.
- 10:59Speaker 7: We played Dice in a lie at the point guard
- 11:00Speaker 7: in Dison. I mean, Dyson is unbelievable. But just to
- 11:04Speaker 7: have that young point guard that you can just give
- 11:05Speaker 7: the ball to. He can play picking and roll, you know,
- 11:08Speaker 7: continue to get bigs that can support you know, oh
- 11:11Speaker 7: big old down there, I think will help too. Obviously
- 11:14Speaker 7: you got Dison and you got Jalen. You know, these
- 11:16Speaker 7: guys gotten to kill. Like you know, the the Wings
- 11:18Speaker 7: are pretty locked in. But you know, I think to
- 11:22Speaker 7: have maybe a point guard in the big that can
- 11:23Speaker 7: continue to beef up the team would be helpful.
- 11:25Speaker 3: You can always use a point guard to be always.
- 11:30Speaker 3: I wanted to talk to you about your I know
- 11:32Speaker 3: you're gonna be a great coach. You've been a great coach.
- 11:34Speaker 3: You've been doing your thing in the coaching world. But
- 11:35Speaker 3: I know you from playing basketball. I remember you at Butler.
- 11:40Speaker 3: I know about your career, how you committed to Western Kentucky,
- 11:42Speaker 3: things like that. Yeah, I wanted to ask you about
- 11:45Speaker 3: your playing career.
- 11:46Speaker 5: So what was it like.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I know you was in high school, you're under recruited,
- 11:49Speaker 3: but getting a Butler and having the moment in the
- 11:51Speaker 3: runs that you had a Butler back to back final
- 11:54Speaker 3: fours and things like that.
- 11:55Speaker 5: What was that experience like life changing for me?
- 11:59Speaker 7: Yeah, because you know, I was not like I was
- 12:03Speaker 7: recruited a lot, but it was all men majors, you know.
- 12:05Speaker 7: So it wasn't like I wasn't ranked. I wasn't a
- 12:08Speaker 7: four star, five star.
- 12:09Speaker 5: You know.
- 12:10Speaker 7: I was a good So I was a good high
- 12:11Speaker 7: school player, you know, but coming to college, I was
- 12:14Speaker 7: just a good, solid player.
- 12:16Speaker 5: So to be in that environment on am I'm from a.
- 12:19Speaker 7: Small town in Birmingham, Alabama, you know where we do
- 12:22Speaker 7: football down there.
- 12:23Speaker 5: So to come to Indiana and now I do have
- 12:25Speaker 5: a lot of family here.
- 12:26Speaker 7: I grew up coming up here to Indy, so I
- 12:29Speaker 7: knew about it, but to be in that environment and
- 12:31Speaker 7: we're pretty good.
- 12:32Speaker 5: My freshman year, my sophomore year we go to the
- 12:33Speaker 5: national championship game. My junior year, we do it again.
- 12:36Speaker 5: And just the amount of love.
- 12:37Speaker 7: That the city showed us, that the country showed us,
- 12:40Speaker 7: I mean, to this day, even before I was a
- 12:42Speaker 7: head coach of Butler, to this day, the amount of
- 12:44Speaker 7: people that like still remember that and we'd be like, yo,
- 12:47Speaker 7: they mean, I remember my nigh, but they're like, you
- 12:49Speaker 7: look familiar for some reason, you know what I mean?
- 12:51Speaker 7: That for me coming from like where I came from,
- 12:55Speaker 7: is like that I did not expect that to happen
- 12:57Speaker 7: at all, to ever be that person, you know. So,
- 13:01Speaker 7: and it was a special team. It's a special group
- 13:03Speaker 7: of dudes that were still close. You know, we're all
- 13:04Speaker 7: still close, and so yeah, man, it was life changing.
- 13:09Speaker 3: And when you got the job, I'm sure since you
- 13:10Speaker 3: all y'all are close to what was that like when
- 13:13Speaker 3: everybody found out you were getting the job? What was
- 13:16Speaker 3: that text like in a group check?
- 13:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I think everybody was pretty excited, you know,
- 13:22Speaker 7: you know, just trying to we all remember, you know,
- 13:25Speaker 7: the years we were talking about when when I played here,
- 13:27Speaker 7: when we played here, and so to try to take
- 13:30Speaker 7: what that was and to try to recreate that at
- 13:33Speaker 7: this day and age now, it's hard.
- 13:34Speaker 5: It's different, you know.
- 13:35Speaker 7: I think we talk about it all the time, me
- 13:38Speaker 7: and a couple of guys like I think, if you know,
- 13:40Speaker 7: our team at that time, our Horizon League team would
- 13:43Speaker 7: have done, you know what, would it don't would do
- 13:45Speaker 7: what we had did. Then we probably all would have left.
- 13:48Speaker 7: We would have had to, you know what I mean.
- 13:51Speaker 7: It would have been good to stay together, but it
- 13:53Speaker 7: would have been it would have been hard, and you know,
- 13:55Speaker 7: so to try to recreate that and this time is
- 13:57Speaker 7: it's a challenge. But you know, fortunately for me, you know,
- 14:00Speaker 7: I've coached the G League where the teams come in
- 14:02Speaker 7: and out, you know, NBA where there's trade deadline and
- 14:04Speaker 7: things like that where you're having to put a team together.
- 14:06Speaker 7: And so I think just from that standpoint, those experiences
- 14:09Speaker 7: and just coming back and trying to bring those back,
- 14:11Speaker 7: I think everybody was pretty excited about it.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Sure do what was it like, obviously you played with
- 14:17Speaker 4: a couple of NBA players. What was it like We're
- 14:21Speaker 4: being around Shelvy and Gordon around those times, did you
- 14:24Speaker 4: know being that they would be future NBA players.
- 14:28Speaker 7: I mean, you knew, you knew Gordon pretty early, you know,
- 14:33Speaker 7: to be his side six eight sixty nine, to be
- 14:36Speaker 7: able to dribble, pass and shoot, post guys up, make threes,
- 14:39Speaker 7: make midies, finish at the rim, athletic defensively.
- 14:42Speaker 5: He had all the tools.
- 14:43Speaker 7: You know, he just needed to grow a little bit
- 14:45Speaker 7: to you know, to his body and all that.
- 14:48Speaker 5: You know.
- 14:48Speaker 7: But we were at we played Georgetown and Massion Square
- 14:51Speaker 7: Garden in the middle of my sophomore year and it
- 14:54Speaker 7: was like, all right, this dude is yeah, is for real?
- 14:57Speaker 7: And then we played Steph at Davidson Uh, you know,
- 15:01Speaker 7: one of those years too, and he went crazy. It
- 15:05Speaker 7: was like, all right, you put these two together. And
- 15:06Speaker 7: then we make the run where it's just like every night,
- 15:08Speaker 7: every tournament game he's leading us, like you're like, all right,
- 15:11Speaker 7: you know, he's probably gone.
- 15:13Speaker 5: And then same thing with Sheldon.
- 15:14Speaker 7: It took Shelving a little bit longer, but nobody can
- 15:17Speaker 7: stop Shelving, and you just knew it was a different level.
- 15:20Speaker 5: You know.
- 15:20Speaker 7: Obviously we're playing the Horizon League, so we're not playing
- 15:22Speaker 7: NBA players every night.
- 15:23Speaker 5: There was some nights we did but then.
- 15:25Speaker 7: When we get to the tournament and we're constantly, you know,
- 15:27Speaker 7: consistently seeing high level teams and Shelbon is still tearing
- 15:30Speaker 7: them up. It was like, you know, like, all right,
- 15:33Speaker 7: you can come back our senior year, but you should
- 15:36Speaker 7: just go all right.
- 15:38Speaker 5: My boy man all that shit.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Yeah, man, what was funny about Gordon is that I
- 15:44Speaker 4: know we're a couple of years older than him. I
- 15:47Speaker 4: really didn't hear too much about him. He wasn't as tall. Yeah,
- 15:51Speaker 4: he was known for playing too, for sure. Yeah, that's
- 15:54Speaker 4: what I'm like. It's crazy to see that a person
- 15:57Speaker 4: can grow and then as tennis being their first work
- 16:00Speaker 4: and being become are all start in the NBA.
- 16:03Speaker 7: Yeah, No, I always say, I mean obviously Jeff playing
- 16:05Speaker 7: in the NBA, like being around the NBA for that long, Like,
- 16:08Speaker 7: these dudes are just special and you know a lot
- 16:12Speaker 7: of us try to say we want to get there
- 16:15Speaker 7: or try to get there, but there's a god given
- 16:17Speaker 7: ability that's given.
- 16:18Speaker 5: City, right.
- 16:20Speaker 7: I would say all these guys, you know, like even
- 16:22Speaker 7: the guys you're like, yo, I could be him more
- 16:24Speaker 7: than likely you can't, yea. These guys are you know,
- 16:29Speaker 7: and even like the longevity of careers. That is like,
- 16:34Speaker 7: I can't keep playing I shut it, I can't keep
- 16:36Speaker 7: the long. The ability for these guys athletically to be
- 16:39Speaker 7: able to keep playing long at the highest level for
- 16:41Speaker 7: so long, that is god getting out. They're getting their
- 16:43Speaker 7: bodies worked on all that stuff. But still this is
- 16:46Speaker 7: a grind that these guys go through every single night
- 16:48Speaker 7: for eighty two games. You know, like that is just
- 16:51Speaker 7: guy given the ability. So like, you know, Gordon was
- 16:54Speaker 7: fortunate that he had to grow spurt. You know, if
- 16:55Speaker 7: he stayed six feet like he was as a freshman
- 16:58Speaker 7: in high school, he's not an NBA player. He goes
- 17:00Speaker 7: to six eight and he's got all those guard skills
- 17:02Speaker 7: and tools like that guy.
- 17:04Speaker 6: Get you know, yeah, for sure, that's definitely what.
- 17:07Speaker 5: Was Brad like during his time.
- 17:11Speaker 4: What made him kind of like a special coach where
- 17:14Speaker 4: you look like this guy is different than the other coach.
- 17:17Speaker 5: Man.
- 17:18Speaker 7: It was hard for me at that time because he
- 17:20Speaker 7: was my only you know, I had a great high
- 17:22Speaker 7: school coach who was actually from Indiana for Fort Wayne, uh,
- 17:27Speaker 7: but Brad was my only like college coach.
- 17:29Speaker 5: You know, He's the only yea, So I didn't I.
- 17:31Speaker 7: Couldn't see what was happening, but I could get some
- 17:33Speaker 7: feedback from you know, my guys that were playing other places.
- 17:37Speaker 7: But everything was efficient, and everything was about only the
- 17:41Speaker 7: most important thing, you know, Like there was never.
- 17:44Speaker 5: Any waste in motion with Brad. And what I think
- 17:46Speaker 5: that allowed him to do was be organized.
- 17:49Speaker 7: And so you know, at that time, people weren't really
- 17:52Speaker 7: talking about college coaches drawing up atos, right, you know,
- 17:56Speaker 7: and Brad was like drawn up unbelievable.
- 17:59Speaker 5: We came out of the time out.
- 18:01Speaker 7: We all knew it was a bucket or at least
- 18:04Speaker 7: a great shot, and so you know, but that that
- 18:07Speaker 7: came from him just being organized and not focusing on
- 18:09Speaker 7: all these other things that we can start to focus
- 18:11Speaker 7: on his coaches, Brad was always just process oriented and
- 18:15Speaker 7: to me, that separated him, you know, and he just
- 18:18Speaker 7: had a gift for just seeing the game. You know,
- 18:20Speaker 7: he always knew what he was looking at, you know,
- 18:21Speaker 7: he knew what he was paying attention to.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Oh, I know both you got Jeff, you play for
- 18:26Speaker 4: him with the Celtics. I mean I was on the team.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Do y'all think we'll ever see him on the sideline again?
- 18:34Speaker 5: No, no way. Why Why do you why do you
- 18:38Speaker 5: think he good at what he's doing now. Unbelievable, it's working.
- 18:42Speaker 5: That's crazy.
- 18:43Speaker 3: He got out of, you know, how to put teams together,
- 18:46Speaker 3: and then I think he like enjoys not having that
- 18:48Speaker 3: same pressure on the sidelines.
- 18:50Speaker 6: I think, I mean, it's still a pressure to build
- 18:51Speaker 6: a team.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I think it's a lot less pressure than every day
- 18:55Speaker 3: grind when it comes to preparing the team for a game.
- 18:58Speaker 3: I don't think he want because my last year was
- 19:01Speaker 3: his last year. Yeah, and I remember him pulling me
- 19:03Speaker 3: in the office and saying like like kind of like
- 19:06Speaker 3: alluding to like, yeah, I'm done.
- 19:08Speaker 5: Like what year was that again?
- 19:10Speaker 6: This is twenty twenty one one?
- 19:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 19:12Speaker 6: It's kind of like he was cooked kind of.
- 19:15Speaker 3: And then he went upstairs right after that, so I knew, like, yeah,
- 19:19Speaker 3: he was done.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Like what he said to me was like he was
- 19:23Speaker 6: just doing that. I've never seen.
- 19:24Speaker 5: Brad like that.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it's kind of like, you know, probably because the
- 19:27Speaker 2: difference with college in the NBA, Like you know how
- 19:30Speaker 2: the NBA is you kind of in and out. Yeah,
- 19:32Speaker 2: like going on college is more secure. I mean it's
- 19:34Speaker 2: different now because in IL and so I could probably
- 19:38Speaker 2: see that. Bro, it's a lot going on up here.

- 21:25Speaker 5: He's still a coach to me though, you know what
- 21:26Speaker 5: I mean, like to when he left coaching.
- 21:30Speaker 7: First of all, I saw the tweet and I thought,
- 21:32Speaker 7: you know when he was when he made the transition.
- 21:34Speaker 5: I thought he was going to coach in GM. I
- 21:36Speaker 5: was like cool.
- 21:38Speaker 7: But then somebody text me and I read the tweet
- 21:40Speaker 7: again and it was like, no, he's just gonna be
- 21:43Speaker 7: the GM And I'm like, there's no way. He did
- 21:45Speaker 7: that early too, yeah, And I'm like, so in my mind,
- 21:48Speaker 7: he's still a coach. So I hope he coaches one day.
- 21:51Speaker 6: I mean, I know he'd be great at it.
- 21:53Speaker 3: But like when I you was throwing him att crazy
- 21:56Speaker 3: and he was like I text him, I was like,
- 21:58Speaker 3: who's like that playing around here?
- 22:01Speaker 6: Like no way, just row back, no way.
- 22:06Speaker 4: It's like every crazy, like big time college job that
- 22:10Speaker 4: comes around the always throw his name around.
- 22:12Speaker 7: Carolina this year, Yes, we played Carolina this year. I
- 22:15Speaker 7: was like, please take the job. That's why I can
- 22:18Speaker 7: coach get you. So let's talk about you being at
- 22:24Speaker 7: Butler upcoming. How do you plan to bring Butler back
- 22:31Speaker 7: to what it was when you was playing? Not saying
- 22:32Speaker 7: you can get to the national championship, but bring it
- 22:34Speaker 7: in the Big East, making it one of the top
- 22:37Speaker 7: teams in the Big East.
- 22:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:38Speaker 7: I think the thing that has made Butler good for
- 22:41Speaker 7: a long time is like Butler has known any coach
- 22:45Speaker 7: has been a lot of great coaches at Butler, but
- 22:47Speaker 7: we've known who we are and we've known who we're not,
- 22:51Speaker 7: you know, And so I think to just be really
- 22:53Speaker 7: clear with our staff and our team about who we
- 22:56Speaker 7: are and who we need to be to be successful
- 22:59Speaker 7: is the most important thing. We don't have to get
- 23:01Speaker 7: outside of any lane or try to do what anybody
- 23:03Speaker 7: else is doing. Let's just be the best version of
- 23:05Speaker 7: us and focus on what's going to make us successful.
- 23:08Speaker 7: And to me, that's just being a great connected team,
- 23:12Speaker 7: that's being super competitive every night, and that's being the.
- 23:15Speaker 5: Most prepared team.
- 23:16Speaker 7: I think if we can do those three things, then
- 23:18Speaker 7: we'll put ourselves in position to get back to being
- 23:21Speaker 7: the team in the program that we all know.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Butther is a right sure.
- 23:25Speaker 2: When you're recruiting a lot of these kids, because I
- 23:27Speaker 2: know a lot of kids watch us.
- 23:29Speaker 5: What's some of the things that you're looking.
- 23:31Speaker 2: At when you're evaluating them and trying to see who
- 23:33Speaker 2: you want to bring to your program.
- 23:34Speaker 7: Number One, we're looking like our guys humble, And that's
- 23:37Speaker 7: not like I'm not that good. That's just like, you
- 23:41Speaker 7: know what, I can always get better, right right, Like
- 23:43Speaker 7: I am what I am now, But I'm going to
- 23:45Speaker 7: be in the gym because i know there's work to
- 23:47Speaker 7: do and I'm gonna always get better.
- 23:48Speaker 5: So that's that's number one. Number two is like are
- 23:51Speaker 5: you tough?
- 23:52Speaker 3: Like?
- 23:52Speaker 7: Are you mentally tough? Can you get through difficult things?
- 23:55Speaker 7: You know, the Big East is tough, a college season
- 23:57Speaker 7: is tough. Can you get through that? Are you physically
- 23:59Speaker 7: tough enough, you know to actually handle the physicality of
- 24:03Speaker 7: the season. Can you compete every single every single drill,
- 24:05Speaker 7: every single rep, every single possession you know, and for
- 24:08Speaker 7: us too. The last thing is like can you can
- 24:10Speaker 7: you be a great teammate? Like we give you a role?
- 24:12Speaker 7: Can you play accept that role and play that role?
- 24:15Speaker 5: You know?
- 24:15Speaker 7: If we can find guys that do those four things,
- 24:18Speaker 7: we feel like we have the right kind of guys
- 24:19Speaker 7: in the building.
- 24:20Speaker 6: No effects, definitely I wanted to talk about.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Obviously, I'm a high school coach, so high school recruiting
- 24:25Speaker 3: is very tough now because of the transfer portal. Being
- 24:29Speaker 3: at Butler and obviously being in Indiana, where's a lot
- 24:32Speaker 3: of high school players, I got a lot of talent.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Will y'all be in the high school ranks? Looking to
- 24:36Speaker 3: recruit a lot of high school players? Or will you guys?
- 24:38Speaker 3: I mean, obviously you're going to be in the portal.
- 24:40Speaker 3: That's just the smart thing to do too. But how often,
- 24:43Speaker 3: I mean, how many high school players would I look
- 24:45Speaker 3: at a year?
- 24:45Speaker 7: You know, Yeah, we're definitely going to be recruiting high
- 24:48Speaker 7: school players. I think, you know number one. I think
- 24:51Speaker 7: just that ability to you know, get a young guy
- 24:55Speaker 7: and allow them to grow in the program.
- 24:57Speaker 5: I think it's still a recipe for success.
- 25:00Speaker 7: I think it's hard to sustain success when you're just transition,
- 25:03Speaker 7: like you're getting a brand new team every single year.
- 25:06Speaker 7: So we got to recruit high school guys. We want
- 25:08Speaker 7: to recruit, you know, high school guys at a high level,
- 25:11Speaker 7: you know, and guys that can play. You know, it's
- 25:14Speaker 7: hard to recruit high school guys now that you want
- 25:17Speaker 7: to say, like, you know, we probably won't be able
- 25:20Speaker 7: to do red shirt anymore with what's happening with LA
- 25:22Speaker 7: to five in five years, but like to have a
- 25:24Speaker 7: high school guy that won't play he's just going to transfer,
- 25:27Speaker 7: you know. So we need high school guys that can
- 25:29Speaker 7: impact the game right now. Yeah, and so we're definitely
- 25:33Speaker 7: gonna be recruiting high school guys. Try to keep them
- 25:35Speaker 7: in our program the best we can. I think that's important.
- 25:38Speaker 7: So and that starts here in Indiana. Like it's there's
- 25:41Speaker 7: way too many players here in Indiana for us not
- 25:44Speaker 7: to have Indiana guys on our team. That's that's that's
- 25:48Speaker 7: important for us. So you know, it depends on what
- 25:50Speaker 7: our team looks like as far as the number, but
- 25:53Speaker 7: you know, there's a lead we're gonna e lade in
- 25:55Speaker 7: our recruiting. As we're talking to guys, We're at least
- 25:57Speaker 7: going to be five to seven deep at every position,
- 26:00Speaker 7: tracking guys you know, in every class.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Now that that could be more, that could be less
- 26:03Speaker 5: depending on where we.
- 26:04Speaker 7: Are and all that, but we need to have a
- 26:07Speaker 7: good list of high school guys that we were heavily recruiting.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Since you've been recruiting, have you heard anything like crazy
- 26:17Speaker 4: from a player that you're recruiting as far as like
- 26:19Speaker 4: request or in il Nothing, nothing crazy, But there's been
- 26:27Speaker 4: some bad agents, that's what up.
- 26:30Speaker 5: I mean, just like, yeah, you're just on the phone.
- 26:33Speaker 7: It's like, man, like you just see like you're on
- 26:36Speaker 7: the phone's agent and he's hurting the kid, you know
- 26:38Speaker 7: what I mean, Like that that is happening. You get
- 26:40Speaker 7: off the phone, You're like, man, you just wish you
- 26:43Speaker 7: could tell the kid like somebody else.
- 26:48Speaker 5: And so, you know, I feel bad for some of
- 26:50Speaker 5: the kids in that, but I haven't heard it. I'm sure.
- 26:52Speaker 5: I'm sure we will. We just went through one portal season.
- 26:54Speaker 7: We're starting the high school stuff, so I'm sure that
- 26:57Speaker 7: time will come.
- 26:58Speaker 5: Yeah, do you think is a good thing for college
- 27:01Speaker 5: right now? I do? I do. I do think that.
- 27:06Speaker 7: I do think that these players have value, you know,
- 27:09Speaker 7: as basketball players. I think where it is is getting
- 27:15Speaker 7: you know, it's getting difficult because the money is jumping
- 27:19Speaker 7: up so draftically so fast, you know, and so it's
- 27:24Speaker 7: just going to be interesting what happens, how people operate,
- 27:27Speaker 7: continue to operating this. But I do think that it's important,
- 27:31Speaker 7: you know, for for these young guys to be compensated,
- 27:35Speaker 7: you know, because they do have value as basketball players. Now,
- 27:38Speaker 7: what's hard for me coming from the NBA is that
- 27:42Speaker 7: there are players in the NBA that don't play, that
- 27:45Speaker 7: are NBA players that are making let's say, let's call it,
- 27:49Speaker 7: two million dollars a year that if they came to college,
- 27:52Speaker 7: would be significantly better than certain guys making way more
- 27:55Speaker 7: money than them, Except that that's at times that's hard
- 27:59Speaker 7: top your mind around, you know, But but I do think,
- 28:03Speaker 7: I do think that these guys should be compensated for sure.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Do you think the five year rule you think that's
- 28:07Speaker 2: helpin you know, guys transferring every year. That's kind of
- 28:10Speaker 2: I know, that's kind of crazy. You think that that
- 28:12Speaker 2: rule will helps out a lot.
- 28:14Speaker 7: I'm interested to see how how it goes, you know,
- 28:18Speaker 7: you know, also with like the legislation that's happening in
- 28:21Speaker 7: Congress and all just how all of it fits together.
- 28:24Speaker 7: I like the five and five because it just clears
- 28:26Speaker 7: things up for everybody. You know, like you come to school,
- 28:29Speaker 7: you got five years to play, Like not red shirt,
- 28:31Speaker 7: there's no waivers. Everybody is kind of in the same bucket,
- 28:34Speaker 7: And so I think that helps just from a as
- 28:37Speaker 7: you're building your team and planning out your team. Obviously
- 28:39Speaker 7: there's still gonna be guys that are transferring and stuff
- 28:40Speaker 7: like that, but I just think it clears up some
- 28:43Speaker 7: of the mess that's happening.
- 28:44Speaker 3: I hope they put the one free transfer rule in.
- 28:48Speaker 3: I think that'll save a lot. Yeah, like you have
- 28:50Speaker 3: to make you have to make a real decision at
- 28:52Speaker 3: some point, because I think that's what's kind of hurting
- 28:54Speaker 3: kids a little bit, that you have so many options
- 28:56Speaker 3: you don't have to go through any adversity.
- 28:58Speaker 5: For sure.
- 28:59Speaker 7: It's it's it's not real life when you when you
- 29:03Speaker 7: get a career and you have a job, you know,
- 29:06Speaker 7: it's hard to just leave your job with no consequence,
- 29:09Speaker 7: you know, And so you know, I think the I
- 29:11Speaker 7: think the transferring every year is definitely definitely a challenge,
- 29:15Speaker 7: and it's you know, you know, you know, making it
- 29:17Speaker 7: difficult when when these guys are done playing, if you
- 29:20Speaker 7: go to the NBA, you're not just leaving your team
- 29:23Speaker 7: when things go wrong though, you know what I mean. Now,
- 29:25Speaker 7: if you if you try to do that and you
- 29:28Speaker 7: you know, don't act right, it's going to be really
- 29:30Speaker 7: easy for teams to just cut you and just find
- 29:32Speaker 7: another player that can be in the NBA. So there's
- 29:34Speaker 7: some life habits that I think I agree with you, Jeff,
- 29:37Speaker 7: like that can that can help guys out that.
- 29:41Speaker 6: So being a coach Q Quinn.
- 29:44Speaker 3: That's my guy, that's my mind too, And he's offensively,
- 29:48Speaker 3: he's one of the most gifted coaches.
- 29:49Speaker 6: I've ever been around.
- 29:50Speaker 3: I mean, he had ideals when I was with him
- 29:52Speaker 3: with the Hawks that was just outlandish at times, right,
- 29:55Speaker 3: And then now to see how he wanted to coach
- 29:58Speaker 3: back then, and that was might be too. That I
- 30:00Speaker 3: was an eleven maybe or something like that, twelve and
- 30:02Speaker 3: the things that guys are running now he wanted to
- 30:04Speaker 3: run in twenty twelve, like all the Spain Acts and
- 30:07Speaker 3: all the five outs and all those things. And being
- 30:10Speaker 3: around him, well that play into any of your offensive philosophies.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Yeah, we had.
- 30:15Speaker 7: I mean Q and I have conversations daily, you know,
- 30:20Speaker 7: just like deep conversations about basketball and what about this,
- 30:24Speaker 7: and whether he would bring me in his office like hey,
- 30:25Speaker 7: I'm thinking about this.
- 30:26Speaker 5: What do you think? You know?
- 30:28Speaker 7: And so for me as a coach to listen to
- 30:30Speaker 7: watch him, like when I was before I was with Atlanta,
- 30:33Speaker 7: I would always watch Q's like in the gameplay was
- 30:36Speaker 7: watch Q's atos, you know, And so to be with
- 30:39Speaker 7: him the last three years and see that there's definitely
- 30:42Speaker 7: a lot of things just like screening angles, you know,
- 30:45Speaker 7: the way your big runs in and out of certain
- 30:46Speaker 7: pick and roll situations. You know, we will do a
- 30:50Speaker 7: lot of you know, we were a fast team the
- 30:52Speaker 7: last couple of years, one of the fastest teams in
- 30:54Speaker 7: the league the last couple of years. We'll still play
- 30:56Speaker 7: with that pace in some of the spacing and you know,
- 30:58Speaker 7: some of the decisions and and things that we did there.
- 31:02Speaker 7: Because you know, I think it's number one. I think
- 31:04Speaker 7: it's like I think it wins number two. I think
- 31:07Speaker 7: it's a fun way for players to play. It's just
- 31:10Speaker 7: an enjoyable way, Like you get better. There's a reason
- 31:13Speaker 7: that the last two years that Atlanta Hawks have had
- 31:15Speaker 7: the most improved player I think I think that may
- 31:17Speaker 7: be the first time ever like an organization is at
- 31:20Speaker 7: back to back most improved players. Dyson Daniels and Alexander Walker.
- 31:23Speaker 7: They are, they got better, they work, but the system
- 31:27Speaker 7: allowed them to play with the freedom that like allowed
- 31:30Speaker 7: them to take their games the next level. So to
- 31:32Speaker 7: be able to do that in college I think will
- 31:34Speaker 7: be really good for our players.
- 31:36Speaker 3: And they could have had three. I mean, Jalen Johnson
- 31:38Speaker 3: was probably in the run. Yeah, he's easily been up
- 31:41Speaker 3: there defensively coming into college, obviously it's you were defensive
- 31:50Speaker 3: mind player because I knew I wasn't gonna get on
- 31:53Speaker 3: the court.
- 31:55Speaker 4: So in college, what's your expectation on what came Butler
- 31:59Speaker 4: fans expect from your Butler teams.
- 32:02Speaker 7: Defensive well, we we got to be a defense team
- 32:05Speaker 7: first we have any chance on win, Like, it's not
- 32:07Speaker 7: going to be outscoring people, you know, we want to
- 32:10Speaker 7: be a tough, tough team and make it really tough
- 32:12Speaker 7: to get the ball into the paint.
- 32:14Speaker 5: You know.
- 32:14Speaker 7: Offensively, we're trying to get the ball into the paint
- 32:16Speaker 7: as much as possible, get to the rim, you know,
- 32:18Speaker 7: get get get some threes, kickout threes and stuff like that.
- 32:21Speaker 5: So if we're doing that offensively, that's what we want.
- 32:23Speaker 7: We got to make sure we stop that defensively, keep
- 32:25Speaker 7: teams out of the paint, keep teams, you know, from
- 32:27Speaker 7: being able to get in there, and then just making
- 32:29Speaker 7: contesting and making every single shot difficult and then you
- 32:32Speaker 7: got to rebound.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Like it's it's really, at.
- 32:34Speaker 7: The end of the day, that simple, you know from
- 32:36Speaker 7: a philosophy from a philosophy standpoint, but the way that
- 32:40Speaker 7: we do it, like with the presence that we want.
- 32:42Speaker 7: We want to be like a tough, nasty, defensive team.
- 32:44Speaker 7: That's just the way that I identify I see the game.
- 32:47Speaker 7: And so you know, when we're recruiting, we're trying to
- 32:49Speaker 7: find guys that fit that. It's hard. The other thing
- 32:51Speaker 7: I learned the NBA. It's hard to take a guy
- 32:54Speaker 7: that doesn't do that, doesn't play that way, and then
- 32:57Speaker 7: try to get him to play that way. You know,
- 32:58Speaker 7: It's difficult. So we're trying to identify those guys in
- 33:00Speaker 7: recruiting so that when they get the canvas, we just
- 33:03Speaker 7: say I always say, and I heard somebody say, and
- 33:05Speaker 7: I use it now. Uh, Lion cubs become lions, and
- 33:09Speaker 7: zebras don't become lions. So we're just trying to find
- 33:13Speaker 7: lion cubs that we can just develop in the line,
- 33:16Speaker 7: you know. And so I think, I think, big picture,
- 33:19Speaker 7: that's how we want to play defense, for for sure.
- 33:22Speaker 4: And I think it's it's misconscrewed a lot of times
- 33:25Speaker 4: with these high school kids. When you guys, they see
- 33:27Speaker 4: coaches on the sideline, they think you guys are looking
- 33:30Speaker 4: for forty points scorn scoring, scoring, scoring, scoring out, And
- 33:35Speaker 4: that's not really really realistic. I know, uh, Jeff tails
- 33:38Speaker 4: our high school team a lot of times. When you're
- 33:40Speaker 4: in high school and you go to college, he already
- 33:42Speaker 4: got somebody there that's gonna get you eighteen to twenty.
- 33:45Speaker 4: You're not getting on the out definitely in the NBA,
- 33:48Speaker 4: and you're not sure for sure. So I just want kids,
- 33:52Speaker 4: I know. We deal with a lot that playing hard
- 33:55Speaker 4: as a skill.
- 33:55Speaker 5: Now. It used to be that way a long time
- 33:58Speaker 5: ago because kids just don't play hard. But playing hard
- 34:01Speaker 5: gets you on the floor, keeps you on the floor.
- 34:04Speaker 7: My life has been changed from playing hard like just
- 34:07Speaker 7: playing and simple like I was not a great shooter,
- 34:11Speaker 7: didn't score a lot. You know, I could pass. I
- 34:13Speaker 7: still think I'm one of the best passers out there,
- 34:16Speaker 7: you know. But but it was about playing hard. We
- 34:18Speaker 7: got this list my freshman year when I got to Butler,
- 34:21Speaker 7: and we just showed our team the other day and
- 34:23Speaker 7: it said talent not required at the top right, and
- 34:26Speaker 7: then it listed like maybe like twenty things, maybe more
- 34:29Speaker 7: than that. It was like, you know, your communication, you're
- 34:32Speaker 7: poised eating right, you know, connecting with your teammates, diving
- 34:37Speaker 7: on the four for a loose ball, like like all
- 34:39Speaker 7: these different things that you can control. Right, And so
- 34:43Speaker 7: when I saw that, I was like, I got a chance.
- 34:45Speaker 7: You know, I didn't say aged forty. I saw that,
- 34:49Speaker 7: I'd be like, yeah, I don't have a chance. But
- 34:51Speaker 7: coaches are looking for that, like coaches are looking for
- 34:54Speaker 7: that talent not required list, because we can see, we know,
- 34:57Speaker 7: like if a guy can score forty or if he's
- 34:59Speaker 7: gonna have the chance to score forty, be a big
- 35:01Speaker 7: time score, you know. And so we're really trying to
- 35:04Speaker 7: find And this is what I try to tell people,
- 35:06Speaker 7: even about the NBA.
- 35:08Speaker 5: Everybody wants to be you know.
- 35:10Speaker 7: They named the best player in the NBA, Kevin Durant,
- 35:13Speaker 7: Steph Curry, you know Kyrie.
- 35:16Speaker 5: These guys that are high level NBA.
- 35:18Speaker 7: Players, NRIs Halliburton, good look and good luck. Like those
- 35:22Speaker 7: dudes have been those dudes their whole life, whole line. Right,
- 35:25Speaker 7: There's a lot of people in the NBA. Most people,
- 35:28Speaker 7: let's call it ninety percent of NBA players are really
- 35:31Speaker 7: good role players. For sure, they do one or two
- 35:34Speaker 7: or three things that are elite.
- 35:36Speaker 5: You know. Now, the best do it all, elite.
- 35:39Speaker 7: Lebron does everything at an elite level, right, So, like,
- 35:42Speaker 7: do do something that's going.
- 35:44Speaker 5: To get you on the floor.
- 35:45Speaker 7: That's what I realize as a player, Like, what's gonna
- 35:46Speaker 7: get me on the floor is I'm going to play hard,
- 35:48Speaker 7: harder than everybody else. So you know, I would say
- 35:51Speaker 7: that any high school player, like, if you already are
- 35:55Speaker 7: the guy that's getting thirty in a game, like more
- 35:57Speaker 7: than likely, that's probably gonna be a role. If that's
- 35:59Speaker 7: not your it's cool. There's a spot for you, right,
- 36:02Speaker 7: there's a million spots for you. You know, you just
- 36:04Speaker 7: got to make sure that the coaches see that you
- 36:06Speaker 7: add value.
- 36:07Speaker 5: To the team. Right. Oh man, I know.
- 36:09Speaker 4: I remember Jeff you calling me in college telling me
- 36:14Speaker 4: like theseus all my moves?
- 36:16Speaker 5: Man, Oh yeah, they got They watched film. They watch.
- 36:21Speaker 4: If the coach is calling across over the left and right,
- 36:25Speaker 4: he's calling the left and right.
- 36:26Speaker 5: And you told me, how did you have to get
- 36:28Speaker 5: on the floor.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Yeah, you gotta play. I had to play defense. I
- 36:31Speaker 3: started watching film. My coach told me they're watching film
- 36:34Speaker 3: on you. They know what you're gonna do. I was
- 36:36Speaker 3: only playing like five minutes. I started watching film. But
- 36:38Speaker 3: I had to start guarding. So I started picking up
- 36:41Speaker 3: full court and I was a guy who averaged twenty
- 36:43Speaker 3: five in high school. So I'm thinking, I'm gonna go
- 36:46Speaker 3: there and do the same thing. And it wasn't that,
- 36:48Speaker 3: it wasn't reality or I had to learn to do something.
- 36:51Speaker 3: I had to figure out something else. And once I
- 36:53Speaker 3: figured that out, I was able to show what I
- 36:55Speaker 3: can actually do it really well because I was able
- 36:57Speaker 3: to get on the floor by playing defense, and then
- 36:59Speaker 3: I got a little longer lead. Yeah, now I can
- 37:01Speaker 3: shoot a couple of threes, and you know, a couple
- 37:04Speaker 3: of threes turned into a little more.
- 37:07Speaker 6: You know what I mean.
- 37:11Speaker 7: Yeah, but people, but even all the NBA people that
- 37:14Speaker 7: are evaluating you, they're watching, they're watching all that. If
- 37:18Speaker 7: you were just out there just trying to score, like
- 37:21Speaker 7: you're gonna like they have enough people that can score,
- 37:24Speaker 7: especially for a rookie.
- 37:25Speaker 3: You know, so you were. I was a scout before.
- 37:28Speaker 3: So like our scouting meetings. I don't know if you
- 37:31Speaker 3: ever been in a scouting meeting.
- 37:32Speaker 5: I've been to maybe one or two.
- 37:34Speaker 3: They're the worst meeting, but they're so boring. I've enjoyed coaching,
- 37:39Speaker 3: so I've been to a scouting meeting. So I try
- 37:40Speaker 3: to tell the kids at our school or kids that
- 37:42Speaker 3: I know, like about the scouting, like what they look
- 37:45Speaker 3: for and the things that they're I'm like, they're watching
- 37:47Speaker 3: you on the bench, just looking at your face and
- 37:49Speaker 3: see how you react to your teammates and things like that.
- 37:52Speaker 3: And as a college coach now and you being a
- 37:54Speaker 3: head coach, and like you said, you look for a
- 37:56Speaker 3: guy who has good leadership skills and all those things.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Do you sit and watch a kid when he comes
- 38:01Speaker 6: out the game?
- 38:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I watch. I watch everything.
- 38:03Speaker 7: I just sent a video of a kid recruiting.
- 38:08Speaker 5: I sent it to him and it was him after
- 38:11Speaker 5: the whistle.
- 38:12Speaker 7: So I'm watching watching film with him from some eybl
- 38:14Speaker 7: stuff and after the whistle I see him going like
- 38:17Speaker 7: this telling his team to come over. And I sent
- 38:19Speaker 7: that to him. I was like, this is why we
- 38:21Speaker 7: love you. I know, like you play hard, you do
- 38:24Speaker 7: all that other stuff. But what's separating you from like
- 38:27Speaker 7: the other guy over there is that you're bringing.
- 38:29Speaker 5: Your team together at the time that you guys need
- 38:30Speaker 5: to come together, you know.
- 38:32Speaker 7: And so you know, we're as a coaching staff, we're
- 38:34Speaker 7: talking about all those little things, and we're talking about
- 38:36Speaker 7: like after uh, you know, the ref you know, blows
- 38:40Speaker 7: a bad whistle or whatever, something happens with the coach,
- 38:42Speaker 7: Like you're a guy that does this, We're literally watching
- 38:45Speaker 7: what do your hands look like? Or you move on
- 38:47Speaker 7: to the next thing. So those little details all that's
- 38:51Speaker 7: being watched. Will a kid's.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Family be able to interfere with his recruiting one hundred percent?
- 38:57Speaker 2: A lot of them don't seem to realize.
- 38:59Speaker 7: Yeah, no, no, one hundred percent, Like we're not just
- 39:02Speaker 7: recruiting the kid, We're recruiting the family too, you know.
- 39:04Speaker 7: And I know for us, not every player is gonna
- 39:07Speaker 7: fit at Butler. That that's cool. We want guys that
- 39:10Speaker 7: want to be at Butler. But really for any program anywhere,
- 39:14Speaker 7: Like it's so important that you know, uh, that the
- 39:18Speaker 7: coaches understand like what's happening in the whole situation, because
- 39:22Speaker 7: we we all know, like a lot of us are
- 39:24Speaker 7: most of us are product of our environment in some way, right,
- 39:27Speaker 7: the nature and nurture.
- 39:28Speaker 5: You know, there's a lot of people that have overcome
- 39:30Speaker 5: some difficult environments.
- 39:32Speaker 7: But you know, if I'm if I'm talking to a
- 39:34Speaker 7: kid and the environment around him just is not does
- 39:37Speaker 7: not fit us.
- 39:38Speaker 5: We don't have time to.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Waste, like we're we're moving right on, said yeah, that's
- 39:43Speaker 4: that was very very needed, honestly, need to know. And
- 39:49Speaker 4: we're dealing at the high school level where every parent
- 39:53Speaker 4: it's been there before, and I tell them like, do
- 39:56Speaker 4: y'all know who coaches are?
- 39:58Speaker 5: Like the no doubt?
- 40:01Speaker 4: Why don't you take that into account? So I'm glad
- 40:03Speaker 4: that you said that. It's a big East Head coach.
- 40:08Speaker 4: You know, we don't get Yeah, everybody want to get
- 40:12Speaker 4: hard for Yeah, it's where we are with So I'm
- 40:15Speaker 4: glad Butler got you. Butler's in good hands.
- 40:17Speaker 5: Man, that thank you. Definitely in good hands. Thank you. Uh,
- 40:21Speaker 5: as we transition, you've been watching did you watch the
- 40:23Speaker 5: game in one of the finals?
- 40:24Speaker 7: I watched the end of the game. You watched the
- 40:26Speaker 7: Dame watched the last like five minutes of the game.
- 40:29Speaker 7: Who you got winning the finals? Actually, man, that's a
- 40:31Speaker 7: great question. I had not paid that much attention.
- 40:36Speaker 5: Honestly. Uh, it's hard to It's hard to go against
- 40:40Speaker 5: what New York is doing right now. Like I mean
- 40:44Speaker 5: when with the Hawks, obviously game was it game six
- 40:48Speaker 5: this year?
- 40:48Speaker 3: Was there?
- 40:49Speaker 5: Yeah, we talk about that.
- 40:51Speaker 7: That was tough, but we went up to New York
- 40:53Speaker 7: and beat them by thirty this year, you know, and
- 40:55Speaker 7: so like we knew those guys inside it out.
- 40:58Speaker 5: It didn't end that way.
- 41:00Speaker 7: But we played San Antonio and we had no chance
- 41:05Speaker 7: twice no chance. And so you know, coming to the series,
- 41:07Speaker 7: I'm like, san Antonio is just they have everything they do.
- 41:11Speaker 7: They got defense, they got the guards, they got windy.
- 41:14Speaker 7: I mean, this guy's generational, you know, the greatest ever
- 41:18Speaker 7: saying that's what Marcus called the greatest. All right, that's
- 41:23Speaker 7: what I don't know if I should putting this whole
- 41:26Speaker 7: thing out there, but you know, we have a lot
- 41:28Speaker 7: of in the NBA.
- 41:28Speaker 5: We have a lot of debates and stuff on the
- 41:30Speaker 5: RUSS coaches. For sure.
- 41:32Speaker 7: I don't know it's gonna give me in trouble. But
- 41:34Speaker 7: I said, if if Winby stays healthy, thank you. I
- 41:38Speaker 7: think he could be. I like where this is going.
- 41:41Speaker 7: I'm not saying he will be. I think he could
- 41:43Speaker 7: be the best player to ever touch the basketball.
- 41:45Speaker 5: He has a chance.
- 41:46Speaker 6: He got a chance. But Lebron James, it is crazy.
- 41:50Speaker 9: We have never seen You've never seen this a dude
- 41:53Speaker 9: walk up like the amount of times I've seen Winby
- 41:56Speaker 9: dribble the ball up wave dude like guards coming said
- 41:59Speaker 9: to pick a roll out of the way.
- 42:00Speaker 5: They should have walked up three.
- 42:03Speaker 6: It is insane, Like they don't look real sometimes.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Come on, man, like this guy is generational.
- 42:09Speaker 7: But you know, like so I'm watching, I'm like, you know,
- 42:11Speaker 7: I think Santo, but New York just it's just been
- 42:14Speaker 7: every game they just they're just not everybody.
- 42:16Speaker 5: They just figure it out.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Yeah, like you said, you just coached against Jaylen Bronson.
- 42:20Speaker 3: I'm a huge Jalen Brunston fan, played for his dad
- 42:24Speaker 3: in Minnesota and we always talk about JB. And know,
- 42:27Speaker 3: you just went against him in a playoff series. I
- 42:29Speaker 3: don't know if you might have film on anymore whatever.
- 42:31Speaker 3: I just wanted to know, like, obviously he's a tough cover,
- 42:34Speaker 3: but what was your philosophy against him? Like, what were
- 42:37Speaker 3: y'all thinking in the pick and roll situations?
- 42:39Speaker 5: Well, we had Dyson Daniels.
- 42:41Speaker 7: The benefits of our team is that we had Dyson
- 42:43Speaker 7: Daniels and we put him on the best player on
- 42:45Speaker 7: every team. Uh, you know, I think him and Brunton
- 42:48Speaker 7: ended up having a little thing where, you know, sometimes
- 42:50Speaker 7: Dyson got brunting, sometimes Brunton got dicing. But you know,
- 42:55Speaker 7: the big game plan was trying to keep Dicon on
- 42:57Speaker 7: brunting as much as possible, because that's just we We
- 43:00Speaker 7: just don't want to. You know, everybody's game playing against Dyson.
- 43:03Speaker 7: It's just trying to get Dicon off of them. The
- 43:05Speaker 7: best player, you know, so, but it comes down to
- 43:08Speaker 7: it at times, you got to put two guys on him.
- 43:09Speaker 7: You gotta trap them. You gotta make it tough, like
- 43:11Speaker 7: you gotta if he's going to an iso, like, you
- 43:13Speaker 7: just got to go get them because you know that
- 43:16Speaker 7: shot he made.
- 43:17Speaker 5: And the fourth this is unguardable. Yeah, crazy, what do
- 43:21Speaker 5: you think?
- 43:22Speaker 7: And you know he's six feet tall, like he's six
- 43:24Speaker 7: to one, and he's doing that like he's he's a
- 43:27Speaker 7: tough cover.
- 43:28Speaker 5: Take his hand after that?
- 43:29Speaker 6: Did y'all forcing right? What was it?
- 43:32Speaker 7: No, I'm trying to remember. No, I don't think we
- 43:34Speaker 7: forced him them anyway. Yeah, yeah, I mean they were
- 43:38Speaker 7: playing again Dyson. You let Dyson do diceon. You know,
- 43:42Speaker 7: it's hard to be like, hey Dyson, like like Dyson,
- 43:45Speaker 7: you just do do you make it tough.
- 43:48Speaker 5: But you know, if anybody else was guarding that wasn't Dicon.
- 43:51Speaker 7: You know, kill and the kill is a great defender
- 43:52Speaker 7: as well as the Hill is kind of exception, but
- 43:54Speaker 7: anybody else besides those two.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Was like we probably just gotta double. I want to
- 43:58Speaker 3: ask you questions, Like you said that about dogs on
- 44:00Speaker 3: the defensive man, you were a really really good defender,
- 44:02Speaker 3: especially the on ball defender. You have it like swir
- 44:06Speaker 3: Thompson is my favorite defender, and you just talked about
- 44:09Speaker 3: Dyson Daniels.
- 44:10Speaker 6: I want to know, like what's like dice being around Dyson?
- 44:14Speaker 6: What's his mold? Like, like how does he get into that?
- 44:17Speaker 3: Like that mode would be one of those defenders because
- 44:20Speaker 3: usually naturally, I'm not a defender, and I can't imagine
- 44:22Speaker 3: getting in the mold where I'm like, yeah, I'm about
- 44:24Speaker 3: to just go out here and guard the best player
- 44:26Speaker 3: and be excited about it. Like being around him, do
- 44:29Speaker 3: you know, like what kind of molde he got into?
- 44:30Speaker 7: Well, Dyson, Dyson's one of the quietest guys out there,
- 44:34Speaker 7: doesn't say much, but he is a killer. Like he
- 44:37Speaker 7: is just wired differently, you know, so I don't even
- 44:40Speaker 7: think he has to put himself like he's just wired
- 44:42Speaker 7: to do that, you know. And he's got he's six seven,
- 44:46Speaker 7: six eight whatever he is, but can move his feet
- 44:48Speaker 7: like he can he can six eight, he can guard Brunson.
- 44:51Speaker 7: So he's got the size but also the ability to
- 44:53Speaker 7: move his feet and then he's the best getting his
- 44:55Speaker 7: hand on the ball that I think I've ever seen,
- 44:57Speaker 7: Like dudes feel so comfortable when to get by him,
- 44:59Speaker 7: and of a sudden he's shooting a lay up on
- 45:01Speaker 7: the other end.
- 45:01Speaker 6: Right, what do you have three steals the year before
- 45:03Speaker 6: or something like that?
- 45:04Speaker 7: It was I think it was like it was it
- 45:06Speaker 7: was close, but it was like the most steals per
- 45:08Speaker 7: game or the most total stills in.
- 45:10Speaker 5: Like forty years. Yeah, that's I'm crazy.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Do you want all like you talked about Gordon Hayward
- 45:15Speaker 3: being skilled and can do past dribble shoot at that
- 45:18Speaker 3: size like your four men, your five men? Are you
- 45:20Speaker 3: looking for a love threat skilled players or yeah?
- 45:24Speaker 7: I think with the way we want to play offensively, definitely,
- 45:27Speaker 7: like with the four men to have skill, we want
- 45:29Speaker 7: shooting as much shooting as possible, sure, but we want
- 45:32Speaker 7: shooting without you know, uh, we don't want the guy
- 45:36Speaker 7: to be like a bad defender, you know, and so
- 45:39Speaker 7: you still got to be able to defend first, but
- 45:41Speaker 7: we want we want guys that can make shots and
- 45:42Speaker 7: we can ultimately get a you know, a guy that
- 45:45Speaker 7: can make a center that can make shots and you know,
- 45:47Speaker 7: block shots essentially will take that. Now, you can't always
- 45:50Speaker 7: get that, you know, So then we have to look at.
- 45:54Speaker 5: All, right, the impact that they have on the game.
- 45:56Speaker 7: If it's a guy that's so elite, you know, rem roling,
- 45:59Speaker 7: we're gonna pay a lot picking a roll, rim rolling
- 46:01Speaker 7: and protecting the rim. Then you know, if he can't shoot,
- 46:04Speaker 7: then he can still impact the game, you know. But
- 46:07Speaker 7: ideally we would take a guy that can that can
- 46:09Speaker 7: stand out there and make some shots, because it pulls
- 46:11Speaker 7: the big away from the rim. Yeah, you know, and
- 46:13Speaker 7: so if we can do that, that's what we're looking for.
- 46:15Speaker 7: But we're gonna do whatever we can to just make
- 46:17Speaker 7: the make the make the team fit.
- 46:19Speaker 2: When you when you start in your team, what's the
- 46:21Speaker 2: first thing you want to recruit, like a point guard
- 46:23Speaker 2: or a big What's what you think you need to
- 46:25Speaker 2: start with.
- 46:27Speaker 5: Man, that's a good question.
- 46:29Speaker 7: It's really hard to play the game in college basketball
- 46:31Speaker 7: out of point guard without multiple point guards, you know,
- 46:34Speaker 7: just with the pressure, you know, the actual pressure on
- 46:37Speaker 7: the ball, but also the pressure in the building, you know,
- 46:41Speaker 7: and just like the level that it rises, like every
- 46:43Speaker 7: possession matters, you know, to not have somebody that can
- 46:46Speaker 7: like have poison.
- 46:47Speaker 5: Cell to your team, it's hard to operate, you know.
- 46:50Speaker 7: So I think I think it probably starts with the
- 46:52Speaker 7: point guard, you know, but you also got to have
- 46:56Speaker 7: somebody that you can give the ball to and they can.
- 46:58Speaker 5: Just go get you on, get you. You know.
- 47:01Speaker 7: I've never met a great coach that hasn't had that,
- 47:04Speaker 7: you know, like all good coaches have really good players
- 47:07Speaker 7: for sure.
- 47:08Speaker 4: When you recruit a point guard, obviously are you are
- 47:11Speaker 4: a point guard? What are you looking for? Just what's
- 47:14Speaker 4: the ultimate point guard for you?
- 47:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I told our staff, don't recruit a point guard
- 47:19Speaker 7: like me, Like he is not good enough.
- 47:24Speaker 5: He is not good enough.
- 47:25Speaker 7: So but I do think it starts defensive, like we
- 47:27Speaker 7: want somebody that can heal the ball, like if we're
- 47:29Speaker 7: gonna be a defensive team.
- 47:30Speaker 5: It's kind of what I go back to.
- 47:31Speaker 7: It's hard to like get a point guard who's not
- 47:33Speaker 7: a defender and then try to make them one, Like
- 47:35Speaker 7: we need a guy who's gonna come, you know, be
- 47:36Speaker 7: a defender.
- 47:37Speaker 5: First. It always starts there for us.
- 47:39Speaker 7: But then we always look at their decision making, you know,
- 47:42Speaker 7: and so you know, when I'm out, you know, watching
- 47:44Speaker 7: on film or if I'm out, you know, watching AAU
- 47:48Speaker 7: or high school games, whatever, I'm watching every decision that
- 47:51Speaker 7: the guy makes, all right, he comes off of pick
- 47:52Speaker 7: and roll, you know, is he a guy pulls in,
- 47:55Speaker 7: is he able to just make that simple pass right there?
- 47:57Speaker 7: Or does he over dribble trying to find somebody to
- 48:00Speaker 7: hit if he drives like you see. You know, one
- 48:02Speaker 7: thing I noticed, you know, I haven't been watching high
- 48:05Speaker 7: school basketball a lot, but in my first you know,
- 48:07Speaker 7: evaluation period a couple of weeks ago, the amount of
- 48:11Speaker 7: guys that hit the ground. Yeah, Like, one thing I'm
- 48:14Speaker 7: watching now is like guys that don't fall down. Because
- 48:18Speaker 7: guys that don't fall down, guys that don't fall down.
- 48:23Speaker 5: That means they're under control, you know what I mean.
- 48:25Speaker 5: Guys that are just going in there.
- 48:26Speaker 7: I saw so many guys going to the paint try
- 48:28Speaker 7: to jump in the air and make something happen. I
- 48:29Speaker 7: don't want you to jump in the air and make
- 48:31Speaker 7: something happen and somebody if you got to do that,
- 48:33Speaker 7: that means the teammates wide on the corner passing to him.
- 48:36Speaker 7: You know, so I'm watching all those decisions, and so
- 48:38Speaker 7: somebody that's tough defensively that can make the decision.
- 48:42Speaker 5: And then we want point guards that can shoot threes
- 48:44Speaker 5: off the dribble.
- 48:45Speaker 7: If you can shoot threes off the dribble, that means
- 48:46Speaker 7: when we play pick and roll, they have to go
- 48:48Speaker 7: over you know. Now, if I'm out there, they're going
- 48:51Speaker 7: under every it's hard to make something happen. So we
- 48:53Speaker 7: want guys that can shoot off the dribble because that
- 48:55Speaker 7: opens up everything for everybody.
- 48:57Speaker 5: Else for sure. For sure.
- 49:00Speaker 4: Yeah, man, I said, it's it's crazy to see that
- 49:05Speaker 4: you're at Butler. We're talking about here, all this stuff
- 49:09Speaker 4: right now, and it's just happier for you to be here.
- 49:13Speaker 5: Man, appreciate it. It's blessing. Man, this is ah. I
- 49:17Speaker 5: love Butler.
- 49:18Speaker 7: Like I said, Butler changed my life, and so to
- 49:20Speaker 7: be able to give back to what was given to me.
- 49:23Speaker 5: It's something I'm excited to do.
- 49:24Speaker 6: I'm excited for the new run for Butler man.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Like like I said, I scouted Butler for a while.
- 49:30Speaker 3: When I was scouting, I had that was my range.
- 49:33Speaker 3: So I had to go to Butler a lot of
- 49:34Speaker 3: the Big East games. So to see Butler have some
- 49:36Speaker 3: fresh blood in there and some excitement. Not to say
- 49:39Speaker 3: the guys before that didn't do a good job, but
- 49:41Speaker 3: I just know you come from that NBA background and
- 49:44Speaker 3: that gives a lot of kids excited.
- 49:46Speaker 6: Like I think that was cool for me in high school.
- 49:48Speaker 3: We had a lot of guys who wanted to come
- 49:49Speaker 3: to the high school and play because of that NBA background,
- 49:52Speaker 3: they can get that love. So for you to be
- 49:54Speaker 3: able to coach some of these great players, like you
- 49:55Speaker 3: just talked about the Trey Young, Jalen Johnson, and Dyson
- 49:58Speaker 3: Daniels to be Kimball Walker and the names goes on
- 50:01Speaker 3: and you can come there and tell them yeah, and
- 50:03Speaker 3: even for like a recruiting picture, Hey Kimball, I got
- 50:06Speaker 3: a point guard, right, yeah, exactly.
- 50:07Speaker 6: That's crazy.
- 50:08Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean even being in the city like I
- 50:10Speaker 7: work with Tyres you know here when I was with
- 50:13Speaker 7: the Pacers, and so to be able to like have
- 50:15Speaker 7: those experience, you know, when I was in Charlotte, you know,
- 50:17Speaker 7: Kimba and then it was Lamello. We drive to Lamelos
- 50:20Speaker 7: his rookie year. So you know, I listen, if you
- 50:23Speaker 7: if you're a point guard and you want to improve,
- 50:26Speaker 7: like you need to come play a bubble. Yeah, that
- 50:28Speaker 7: that just is what it is. Like you're gonna be
- 50:30Speaker 7: put in a great position.
- 50:31Speaker 5: You know.
- 50:32Speaker 7: You talk to Kimba, you talk to LaMelo, you talk
- 50:34Speaker 7: to Trey, you talk to Tyree.
- 50:35Speaker 5: Talk to me.
- 50:36Speaker 6: That's all.
- 50:37Speaker 5: You know what I mean as well, So you know
- 50:40Speaker 5: I think. But it's it's also the same for the
- 50:42Speaker 5: other players.
- 50:42Speaker 7: You know, we want there's a level of development that
- 50:46Speaker 7: takes place in the NBA on a day to day
- 50:48Speaker 7: basis that just doesn't happen anywhere else, you know, and
- 50:51Speaker 7: so to be able to be with a coach that
- 50:54Speaker 7: that has developed NBA players, you know, like you're you're
- 50:57Speaker 7: gonna come in a situation and have NBA level development.
- 51:00Speaker 7: You know, maybe you end up playing in Europe, you know,
- 51:03Speaker 7: maybe don't end up playing the NBA, but you're still
- 51:05Speaker 7: gonna be able to see your progress that you make.
- 51:07Speaker 7: So that's that's that's that's part of our pitch for sure.
- 51:11Speaker 3: I watched you work out young Get twelve at night
- 51:14Speaker 3: I was there Oklahoma.
- 51:15Speaker 5: That was the lady that was a late night.
- 51:17Speaker 3: I was like, yo, he puts it in a work
- 51:19Speaker 3: because there's no way I'm eating a pizza Zrigga Gator.
- 51:23Speaker 5: Right. He was there.
- 51:24Speaker 3: He's down there putting the work with Trey Young at
- 51:27Speaker 3: twelve in the morning.
- 51:27Speaker 6: I was like, yeah, the dedication is real.
- 51:29Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a relationship too, though, you know what I mean.
- 51:31Speaker 7: Like again, like you, it's hard to survive as a
- 51:35Speaker 7: coach in the NBA if you're not a real dude.
- 51:37Speaker 7: You know, like if anybody was fake to you as
- 51:39Speaker 7: a player, you'd be like yeah, yeah, you know. So
- 51:43Speaker 7: like to be able to have those relationships, like you
- 51:45Speaker 7: got to put the time in, you put the work
- 51:46Speaker 7: in with the players.
- 51:47Speaker 5: Like that's what we're doing that Butler, same.
- 51:49Speaker 3: Thing, man, shout out to you, bro. We appreciate you.
- 51:51Speaker 3: I appreciate man. Butler, I got a good one. You
- 51:56Speaker 3: got a good one you. We'll take some bike players too.
- 51:58Speaker 5: Now. Thatt's like, just keep it real.
- 52:00Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you know my pictures.
- 52:05Speaker 4: It's definitely yeah, man. Like I said, we all appreciate
- 52:09Speaker 4: you for coming in. Man, our first college coach on
- 52:12Speaker 4: five to twenty films. It's never gonna forget it. We
- 52:15Speaker 4: appreciate you. Good luck to you the same. You appreciate you,
- 52:18Speaker 4: I said again, y'all check in with us on Patreon.
- 52:21Speaker 4: That's another episode of five to twenty film the volume
