- 0:11Don Armstrong: Guess what the Hemming Sold car went for?
- 0:15Don Armstrong: And recalls.
- 0:17unknown: God.
- 0:19Don Armstrong: Later, Jeff has the racing calendar.
- 0:21Don Armstrong: Mars has this week in auto history, and I'll bring you the stories making automotive use headlines.
- 0:26Don Armstrong: Howdy, along with Mike Out of This World Mars, who's right over there.
- 0:32Jeff Dziekan: He's back there.
- 0:34Jeff Dziekan: He's over there.
- 0:35Jeff Dziekan: He's everywhere.
- 0:36Don Armstrong: We always need more Jeff Zacan.
- 0:38Don Armstrong: David Ainsley.
- 0:39Don Armstrong: David Ainsley is joining us from his bed.
- 0:43Don Armstrong: I'm Don Armstrong.
- 0:44Don Armstrong: Thanks so much for joining us today.
- 0:47Don Armstrong: It's gonna be good.
- 0:48Don Armstrong: Do you think Larry's in his bed?
- 0:51Don Armstrong: Larry the cat.
- 0:52Don Armstrong: You know, I that let that cat thing with David.
- 0:56Don Armstrong: David has two cats.
- 0:58Don Armstrong: Larry and what's the other one's name?
- 1:00Don Armstrong: Not Larry.
- 1:01Don Armstrong: Not Larry.
- 1:02Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 1:02Jeff Dziekan: Larry's a uh pretty only one.
- 1:07Don Armstrong: There's two.
- 1:07Don Armstrong: No, there's two cats.
- 1:09Don Armstrong: Two cats in the yard.
- 1:12Don Armstrong: All right.
- 1:13Don Armstrong: Um let's do our story of the week that I have selected for all.
- 1:18Don Armstrong: Are you ready?
- 1:20Don Armstrong: It's about tariffs.
- 1:22Jeff Dziekan: Okay.
- 1:23Don Armstrong: And um the like.
- 1:26Don Armstrong: So listen to this.
- 1:28Don Armstrong: Major decisions on tariffs, the future of North American trade, and new duties on robotics loom for the auto industry this year, offering potential clarity on a policy landscape that has upended the planning of automakers and suppliers, including EVs or not EVs.
- 1:49Don Armstrong: U.S.
- 1:50Don Armstrong: Supreme Court in the first part of 2026, now, is expected to rule on the legality of many tariffs enacted by President Trump earlier this year, and the future of North American trade will come into focus as the United States, Mexico, and Canada review their trilateral trade agreement that Trump suggested the U.S.
- 2:11Don Armstrong: could abandon.
- 2:13Don Armstrong: At the same time, the Trump administration has signaled it could pursue a wide range of new tariffs, including on industrial robotics and critical minerals.
- 2:23Don Armstrong: New tariffs will likely weigh heavily on auto companies as they decide how to adjust production and investment plans, according to experts.
- 2:32Don Armstrong: And the Supreme Court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of many of Trump's tariffs in early 2026.
- 2:40Don Armstrong: Now the case pertains to duties issued under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977, which includes nation-level reciprocal tariffs on global trade partners, and those Trump said he placed on Canadian, Mexican, and Chinese goods in response to fentanyl trafficking.
- 3:02Don Armstrong: Can he do that?
- 3:03Don Armstrong: Well, the Supreme Court's going to say one way or the other.
- 3:06Don Armstrong: The US-Mexico-Canada agreement is up for review this year, six years after the trilateral trade deal went into effect.
- 3:14Don Armstrong: In July, the three countries must signal in writing whether they want to continue with the agreement.
- 3:22Don Armstrong: If so, the deal will be extended for another 16 years.
- 3:26Don Armstrong: If not, USMCA, US, Mexico, Canada, would enter into a period of annual reviews before potentially expiring in 2036.
- 3:39Don Armstrong: Now remember, we have lots and lots of car manufacturers, not necessarily American, in Mexico.
- 3:45Don Armstrong: And let's not forget, a lot of the Detroit III have also uh building places out there in Canada.
- 3:52Don Armstrong: Right.
- 3:53Don Armstrong: Right across the river.
- 3:54Don Armstrong: Uh the Trump administration appears poised to issue a wide range of new tariffs in 26.
- 3:59Don Armstrong: Commerce Department in September launched a national security investigation into imports of robotics and industrial machinery under Section 232.
- 4:08Don Armstrong: Thank you, Barney Fife.
- 4:10Don Armstrong: The same law used to implement auto duties.
- 4:13Don Armstrong: The Commerce Department is expected to issue the results of its investigation no later than the end of this month.
- 4:20Don Armstrong: So the whole trade thing is all up in the air now.
- 4:24Don Armstrong: And who's to say what's going to come of it?
- 4:28Don Armstrong: To me, what is more concerning is USMCA, because it has kind of overridden a lot of the tariffs that have been put into place between Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
- 4:42Don Armstrong: So they're kind of doing the USMCA thing.
- 4:46Don Armstrong: But if it's all up in the air, and I'd fail to mention in there that President Trump has even said, hey, we might even do just a bilateral deal.
- 4:54Don Armstrong: In other words, United States and Mexico, that'd be one deal.
- 4:57Don Armstrong: Right.
- 4:58Don Armstrong: United States and Canada would be another separate deal.
- 5:02Don Armstrong: Correct.
- 5:03Don Armstrong: So it's going to be very interesting.
- 5:05Don Armstrong: It's going to be one of those things that you'll want to keep up on because it's going to have a huge effect on the auto industry and imports too.
- 5:12Jeff Dziekan: Now George W.
- 5:13Jeff Dziekan: Bush, not George H.W., not the dad.
- 5:15Jeff Dziekan: The son is the one that implemented all that.
- 5:16Jeff Dziekan: They got that deal working.
- 5:17Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 5:17Jeff Dziekan: USMCA.
- 5:18Don Armstrong: USMCA.
- 5:19Jeff Dziekan: Is there a dance to it, Mike?
- 5:21Jeff Dziekan: USMCA?
- 5:25Don Armstrong: You're going to ask him to dance?
- 5:26Jeff Dziekan: He does the Macarena on Friday nights.
- 5:28Don Armstrong: Mars, do you dance?
- 5:29Don Armstrong: I've never seen you dance.
- 5:31Don Armstrong: Well, at least not on a dance floor.
- 5:33Mike Marrs: I do dance on the dance floor, by golly.
- 5:36Mike Marrs: Do you belly rub?
- 5:37Mike Marrs: I did want to say one thing about the uh polished belt buckles, but the the tariffs and stuff, I understand all that being uh a tool.
- 5:46Mike Marrs: And and but when you start talking about doing annual reviews, I mean the government is so big an annual review takes a couple of years.
- 5:54Mike Marrs: I I I can't imagine how that would help anything.
- 5:58Don Armstrong: Obviously, they would have to speed that up a bit, don't you think?
- 6:04Don Armstrong: Well, there is that more bureaucracy.
- 6:07Don Armstrong: All right, let's do some recalls, shall we?
- 6:09Don Armstrong: All right.
- 6:11Don Armstrong: Uh airbag inflator may detach from the steering wheel.
- 6:15Don Armstrong: Kind of like the one in uh uh family vacation.
- 6:18Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 6:19Don Armstrong: You know, it kind of detached.
- 6:20Don Armstrong: All it was was a blow-up uh plastic bag, but whatever.
- 6:24Don Armstrong: For the Nissan Cube, uh 2009 to 2010.
- 6:29Don Armstrong: Um oh huh.
- 6:32Don Armstrong: Look who's on here.
- 6:33Don Armstrong: Ford Motor Company.
- 6:35SPEAKER_04: Not again.
- 6:36Don Armstrong: Loss of drive power due to a transmission misalignment.
- 6:41Don Armstrong: Martha, what is that sticking through the floor back there?
- 6:44Don Armstrong: It's the drive shaft.
- 6:47Jeff Dziekan: Transmission or drive shaft misalignment?
- 6:49Don Armstrong: This is a transmission misalignment which would cause the drive shaft.
- 6:52Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 6:52Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:53Don Armstrong: It would be a big, huge mess.
- 6:55Jeff Dziekan: So it's not a connected to the engine.
- 6:58Mike Marrs: How do you misalign the transmission?
- 7:00Don Armstrong: Well, I don't know.
- 7:01Jeff Dziekan: Uh probably a a mount, some probably a mount or something.
- 7:04Don Armstrong: I would think.
- 7:04Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 7:05Don Armstrong: All right.
- 7:08Don Armstrong: Oh, but we're not done.
- 7:09Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 7:11Don Armstrong: Sun visor wiring may cause a fire.
- 7:16Jeff Dziekan: Pull over.
- 7:16Jeff Dziekan: So when the sun visor is on fire.
- 7:18Jeff Dziekan: When I'm putting on makeup, can you get it?
- 7:20Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, when I'm putting on my makeup and I poke myself in the eye with my Maybelline.
- 7:26Don Armstrong: It's the Ford Ranger for 24 and 26.
- 7:29Don Armstrong: Oh, but let's not stop there.
- 7:32Mike Marrs: Why stop now?
- 7:34Don Armstrong: Engine block heater may overheat and cause a fire.
- 7:36Don Armstrong: Now that typically is not a problem here in the Houston area.
- 7:39Don Armstrong: However, up north it could be.
- 7:42Don Armstrong: Uh for the Ford Broncos Sport and the Ford Maverick 25 and 26.
- 7:47Jeff Dziekan: Speaking of that, do you know there's still on still snow on the ground in the UP of Michigan?
- 7:51Jeff Dziekan: Calumet Mich Calumet UP Michigan.
- 7:54Jeff Dziekan: It's a uh weather station.
- 7:55Jeff Dziekan: They still have like two feet of snow on the ground.
- 7:57Mike Marrs: That's why we live here.
- 7:59Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, and that's why they have engine block heaters up there.
- 8:02Don Armstrong: You have to because it's the engine will you know, and you have to have a battery tender on it overnight, and maybe a little battery blanket or something.
- 8:11Don Armstrong: Brake pedal may detach from the brake booster on the Audi Etron and the Etron Sportback.
- 8:17Don Armstrong: Even though they're electric, they still have a brake pedal.
- 8:20Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 8:20Don Armstrong: Yeah, 2019 to 2024.
- 8:23Don Armstrong: Well, it cannot be, yes.
- 8:25Don Armstrong: Um, and there's a do not drive order issued for the Roush Nissan Frontier Pro 4XR for 2026.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: What Roush?
- 8:37Don Armstrong: Do not drive.
- 8:37Don Armstrong: Loss of steering control from a loose or missing fastener.
- 8:42Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 8:43Don Armstrong: Uh Roush Nissan.
- 8:45Don Armstrong: Yeah, I didn't know that they were doing that.
- 8:46Don Armstrong: Do-da-do-da.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:49Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 8:50Don Armstrong: And uh Land Rover, Range Rover, Jaguar, they're all under recall.
- 8:55Don Armstrong: Loss of drive power from a DC DC converter failure, all electrics.
- 8:59Don Armstrong: Uh, you're screwed.
- 9:00Don Armstrong: Oh boy.
- 9:01Don Armstrong: Um, lift gas springs may rupture on the Mitsubishi Outlander and the Outlander PHEV 2014 through 2022, and improperly welded seat brackets on the Toyota RAF 4 for 2025.
- 9:14unknown: All right.
- 9:14Don Armstrong: Now let's get to the fun stuff, shall we?
- 9:16Don Armstrong: All right.
- 9:17Don Armstrong: We don't have too long, but we can't linger on this.
- 9:19Don Armstrong: Don't linger.
- 9:20Don Armstrong: We're not lingering.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: No lingering.
- 9:22Don Armstrong: Dilly-dally.
- 9:23Don Armstrong: There's a big lingering felter, uh, open house today going on up there in Michigan.
- 9:28Don Armstrong: Um, so here's what we got.
- 9:30Don Armstrong: These, ladies and gentlemen, are this week's Hemings Sold Cars.
- 9:36Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 9:36Don Armstrong: Got it, Michael.
- 9:37Jeff Dziekan: Are you guys ready for this?
- 9:38Jeff Dziekan: Do we have Jeffrey and George calling on Jeffrey's and George's and David's.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: George was here a few minutes ago.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's get moving.
- 9:48Don Armstrong: Here's the first one.
- 9:49Don Armstrong: A 1966 Jaguar XKE.
- 9:55Don Armstrong: Now, back in the day, this was the bomb.
- 9:58Don Armstrong: The 66 Jaguar XKE.
- 10:00Don Armstrong: Look at the length of that hood.
- 10:02Don Armstrong: I didn't know it.
- 10:03Don Armstrong: Massive.
- 10:03Don Armstrong: How much do you think that that thing went for?
- 10:06Don Armstrong: It's a convertible, obviously.
- 10:07Don Armstrong: And it's got wire wheels on it.
- 10:10Don Armstrong: It could be all original.
- 10:12Don Armstrong: Oh, it's beautiful.
- 10:13Mike Marrs: One thing I found really interesting about this, it's an automatic.
- 10:17Mike Marrs: I did not even know they made an automatic in that.
- 10:20Jeff Dziekan: I did not either.
- 10:20Jeff Dziekan: Maybe, maybe that's.
- 10:21Jeff Dziekan: It's gonna go 129.
- 10:25Don Armstrong: 129 for Jeff.
- 10:27Don Armstrong: Is there anybody else that would like to throw it out?
- 10:30Mike Marrs: Sitting at 40.
- 10:31Don Armstrong: 40, okay.
- 10:32Mike Marrs: George sitting at 18,999.
- 10:34Don Armstrong: Oh, wait, what 1399.
- 10:36Mike Marrs: 1399.
- 10:38Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 10:39Don Armstrong: It went for 162,750.
- 10:45Mike Marrs: Hey, hey, hey, I'm close.
- 10:47Mike Marrs: That's an automatic option.
- 10:49Don Armstrong: Probably so.
- 10:50Don Armstrong: Rare.
- 10:51Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 10:52Don Armstrong: Um, let's move on to something that's comparable in the American standard.
- 10:58Don Armstrong: A 1963 Chevrolet Corvette split window coupe.
- 11:04Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 11:05Don Armstrong: And it's got those big louvers on the hood, and I can't remember what that means.
- 11:09Don Armstrong: Is it is it a no a 63 did not have was it a 409 an option?
- 11:17Don Armstrong: 63?
- 11:17Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 11:18Don Armstrong: But anyway, uh, this is a rare car.
- 11:21Don Armstrong: It looks like it's got original knockoffs on it.
- 11:24Don Armstrong: And uh it looks like it could be uh restored.
- 11:28Don Armstrong: Original.
- 11:29Don Armstrong: Okay, so let's go for the let's go for the gold here.
- 11:31Don Armstrong: How much?
- 11:32Jeff Dziekan: Uh I'm gonna say I'm just gonna go flat 200,000.
- 11:39Jeff Dziekan: There's a uh David and Stacy Lusk say 48,000.
- 11:43Jeff Dziekan: 48,000?
- 11:46Jeff Dziekan: I say it's a six-figure car.
- 11:48Mike Marrs: Jeff Jeff said 51.
- 11:52Mike Marrs: And George is at 28,999.
- 11:56Don Armstrong: A 63 Chevrolet Corvette split window coupe that you see before you went for$174,300.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Candace says$50, she got$50.
- 12:06Don Armstrong: Well, not bad.
- 12:08Don Armstrong: We'll take that donation.
- 12:11Don Armstrong: Okay, the next up is a 68 Ford Mustang, Candace Thackeray Sneed.
- 12:15Don Armstrong: You should know this one.
- 12:16Don Armstrong: Now it does have aftermarket wheels on it, and it is the fastback variety.
- 12:20Don Armstrong: 68 Ford Mustang.
- 12:22Don Armstrong: That's pretty too.
- 12:22Don Armstrong: It is pretty, it's a pretty car.
- 12:24Don Armstrong: How much do you think that that went for?
- 12:28Jeff Dziekan: Oh, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go 71.
- 12:32Jeff Dziekan: I'm I don't know what just came to mind.
- 12:36Jeff Dziekan: Anybody else?
- 12:38Mike Marrs: We're gonna have to move a little bit.
- 12:40Mike Marrs: I'm still seeing it things like Incredible about the previous car.
- 12:44Don Armstrong: Okay, so this car sold for$70,000$350.
- 12:49Don Armstrong: Thank you, Jeffrey.
- 12:50Don Armstrong: All right.
- 12:53Don Armstrong: Next up is a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle.
- 12:57Don Armstrong: This is like the Malibu SS, if I'm not mistaken.
- 13:00Don Armstrong: Yep, it says SS on the side.
- 13:02Don Armstrong: Does have aftermarket wheels, got some Krager SSs on it.
- 13:05Don Armstrong: See, if I had that car, it would not have Kregger SS on it.
- 13:09Don Armstrong: But it um it's a very, very nice car.
- 13:12Don Armstrong: Let me put it that way.
- 13:13Mike Marrs: If you look at the way it's displayed, it's got a 454 and a manual five speed.
- 13:18Don Armstrong: 52.
- 13:20Don Armstrong: But the 454 didn't have any horsepower, so I'm just saying.
- 13:24Don Armstrong: Had lots of torque.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:26Don Armstrong: Okay, so how much?
- 13:28Don Armstrong: Oh, no horsepower.
- 13:28Don Armstrong: I'm gonna go 51 then.
- 13:30Don Armstrong: 51?
- 13:31Don Armstrong: Anybody else want to join in?
- 13:33Mike Marrs: Yeah, I'm not sure if David's going at this one or not.
- 13:38Mike Marrs: I just saw another one up there.
- 13:39Don Armstrong: David 69,000.
- 13:41Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 13:41Don Armstrong: Well, I'm going to tell you right 25.
- 13:44Don Armstrong: It sold for$90,300.
- 13:48Don Armstrong: Probably because it had that uh big block Chevy in it.
- 13:51Don Armstrong: All right, next up, something we're gonna bring it back to Earth now.
- 13:54Don Armstrong: This is a resto mod.
- 13:56Don Armstrong: It's got a knot factory hood on it.
- 13:58Don Armstrong: 66 Chevy Malibu.
- 13:59Don Armstrong: I know.
- 14:00Don Armstrong: Me too.
- 14:00Don Armstrong: I'd do that.
- 14:01Don Armstrong: So how much do you think that 66 Malibu sold for?
- 14:06Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna say uh I'm gonna go flat 100.
- 14:09Jeff Dziekan: 100 grand.
- 14:10Jeff Dziekan: Really?
- 14:10Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I'm gonna go 100 grand.
- 14:12Jeff Dziekan: Dang.
- 14:12Jeff Dziekan: It's a resto mod though, Jeff.
- 14:14Mike Marrs: Yeah, it and it's a Malibu.
- 14:16Mike Marrs: It's not a Chevelle.
- 14:18Jeff Dziekan: I'm sticking to my gun.
- 14:19Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 14:19Mike Marrs: If I'm over.
- 14:20Don Armstrong: Anybody else?
- 14:21unknown: Oh, yeah.
- 14:22Don Armstrong: Anybody else want to guess the price on that?
- 14:24Don Armstrong: They got some more coming in.
- 14:25Don Armstrong: 32 from David and Stacy.
- 14:27Don Armstrong: David and Stacy said 32.
- 14:29Jeff Dziekan: Jeffrey's 35.
- 14:31Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 14:32Jeff Dziekan: Anyone else?
- 14:33Jeff Dziekan: George is ending to 999.
- 14:35Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 14:36Jeff Dziekan: 75.
- 14:37Jeff Dziekan: Okay.
- 14:38Don Armstrong: Well, um, David and Stacy, they won.
- 14:40Don Armstrong: 60, I'm sorry, 29,925 is what it sold for.
- 14:45Jeff Dziekan: I was buying like multiples.
- 14:47Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 14:47Don Armstrong: Next up, a 49 Studebaker 2R5.
- 14:54Don Armstrong: Remember I it went through the whole thing about the Studebaker last week.
- 14:58Don Armstrong: 37.
- 15:01Don Armstrong: Because this is almost like a car-like grill on the front of it.
- 15:05Don Armstrong: And there's so many features that are so car-like for 1949.
- 15:09Don Armstrong: About this, I think that this is a beautiful truck for what it is.
- 15:13Don Armstrong: I mean, look at it.
- 15:15Don Armstrong: I'd want one of these.
- 15:16Don Armstrong: 37.
- 15:17Don Armstrong: 37 for Jeff.
- 15:18Don Armstrong: Anyone else?
- 15:21Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 15:22Don Armstrong: It's uh it's sold for$17.535.
- 15:27Don Armstrong: Wow.
- 15:28Don Armstrong: See, this is see, we're all over.
- 15:29Don Armstrong: Everybody's saying in the 40s and 50s.
- 15:31Don Armstrong: See, this is the thing that I that I love about that is the fact that you can get those.
- 15:36Don Armstrong: The problem is trying to find parts.
- 15:38Don Armstrong: Yeah, maintenance of it too.
- 15:39Don Armstrong: Next up, 66 Chevy Malibu.
- 15:42Don Armstrong: This looks like a stock vehicle.
- 15:45Don Armstrong: That's a good one, too.
- 15:46Don Armstrong: That's a daily driver there.
- 15:48Don Armstrong: Is that a small block?
- 15:48Don Armstrong: V8?
- 15:49Don Armstrong: It looks like it.
- 15:50Don Armstrong: It has the emblem on the on the front of the uh hood, uh front of the fender there.
- 15:54Don Armstrong: Anyway, 66 Malibu sold for 24,150.
- 15:58Don Armstrong: Wow.
- 15:58Don Armstrong: 24150.
- 16:00Don Armstrong: And finally today, the 67 Ford F 350.
- 16:05Don Armstrong: This is a one-ton stake truck.
- 16:07Don Armstrong: It is a stake bed truck.
- 16:09Don Armstrong: The stakes aren't on it, but it's a stake bed.
- 16:11Don Armstrong: Is it a tilt bed?
- 16:13Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 16:13Don Armstrong: You can't tell.
- 16:17Don Armstrong: It's a one-ton.
- 16:18Don Armstrong: You could easily do a hydraulic system on that.
- 16:20Don Armstrong: How much do you think that that truck sold for?
- 16:23Don Armstrong: 15 grand.
- 16:25Jeff Dziekan: 15 grand.
- 16:26Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, probably too high on that.
- 16:28Jeff Dziekan: David and Stacy say five.
- 16:30Jeff Dziekan: That's probably closer.
- 16:34Jeff Dziekan: Anybody else?
- 16:35Don Armstrong: Yeah, uh Jeff is 33.
- 16:37Don Armstrong: Well, David and Stacy, you win.
- 16:40Don Armstrong: It's sold for$5,000.
- 16:43Don Armstrong: You own a steak truck.
- 16:44Jeff Dziekan: You own a lot you know, but how but see if that were me, I would put the stake bed, uh stakes on it.
- 16:51Jeff Dziekan: I would put a camper.
- 16:52Jeff Dziekan: I'd take that flat off there and I'd build some kind of camper on it.
- 16:55Jeff Dziekan: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:58Don Armstrong: No, what you do, yeah.
- 16:59Don Armstrong: You have one of those that pass through.
- 17:02Don Armstrong: Yeah, okay.
- 17:03Don Armstrong: Yeah.

- 19:07Don Armstrong: Great day, I can tell already.
- 19:11Don Armstrong: All right, as we wrap things up, let's uh start with Jeff's Racing Calendar, sponsored by the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge.
- 19:17Jeff Dziekan: And thank you for that.
- 19:17Jeff Dziekan: We've got NHRA going on right now, the first to the third, the NHRA Southern Nationals, the Georgia Motorsports Park.
- 19:25Jeff Dziekan: All classes, pretty much all the classes are competing, and it's going on right now.
- 19:30Jeff Dziekan: Formula One, well, they're back in Miami, and uh we'll see how that goes.
- 19:33Jeff Dziekan: Miami's a good host of racing.
- 19:36Jeff Dziekan: There you go.
- 19:36Jeff Dziekan: So that's gonna go on at Formula One.
- 19:38Jeff Dziekan: Uh there was testing, I believe, yesterday.
- 19:40Jeff Dziekan: Indy is going on uh the road course at Indianapolis next week, uh May 9th, so that's gonna be next Saturday.
- 19:47Jeff Dziekan: They're gonna do that.
- 19:48Jeff Dziekan: And it's all in prep for the Indy 500.
- 19:51Jeff Dziekan: Uh here we go.
- 19:52Jeff Dziekan: NASCAR making history again.
- 19:54Jeff Dziekan: They've got their first black female driver.
- 19:56Jeff Dziekan: Distiny Spurlock is set to make NASCAR history.
- 19:59Jeff Dziekan: Uh black female driver driving the number 69 truck for MBM Motorsports Garage 66, and she'll be competing at Watkins Glen.
- 20:07Jeff Dziekan: Uh, she's made her way through the ranks, and they're gonna put her in a truck.
- 20:11Jeff Dziekan: And then you've got uh the regular NASCAR boys, of course, we're they're uh in Texas uh today and tomorrow.
- 20:18Jeff Dziekan: Uh Friday they ran the uh truck race, and that was where was that?
- 20:23Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, that was it was all in in uh Texas.
- 20:25Jeff Dziekan: Everything ran in Texas, so I apologize for that.
- 20:27Jeff Dziekan: So that's all going on this weekend for NASCAR, and then you've got the NASGRASS, the Lone Star Mower Association, they're coming up.
- 20:35Jeff Dziekan: They're gonna be next week on Mother's Day as well.
- 20:37Jeff Dziekan: So that's gonna be in Florida.
- 20:39Don Armstrong: Let's go down there and watch some racing lawnmowers.
- 20:42Don Armstrong: All right.
- 20:45Mike Marrs: All righty, sir.
- 20:46Mike Marrs: Got a few things that we saw was uh we really thought were interesting this week in auto history.
- 20:51Mike Marrs: You got it, Jeff?
- 20:51Mike Marrs: Yep.
- 20:52Mike Marrs: Alrighty.
- 20:53Mike Marrs: So this week, April the 29th, Oldsmobile built its final vehicle.
- 20:58Mike Marrs: Now, this closed the chapter that began on 1897 when Ransom E.
- 21:03Mike Marrs: Olds founded the company.
- 21:05Mike Marrs: I did not know it, but the cars were originally called Olds after Ransom E.
- 21:09Mike Marrs: Olds.
- 21:10Mike Marrs: Automobiles from the Olds Motorworks up until 1942, and then it just kind of caught on and it actually became the Oldsmobiles, and uh they were known for being innovators.
- 21:21Mike Marrs: They created they introduced the automatic transmissions and several modern production techniques, and at the height, they were selling a million cars a year.
- 21:30Mike Marrs: Now, as General Motors expanded, and being general motives being what it is, they had problems uh maintaining a different identity.
- 21:38Mike Marrs: They kind of got lost in the shuffle.
- 21:40Mike Marrs: So when they finally closed, they were the oldest American automobile brand still existing, and now that title has passed on to Buick in Jeff's honor.
- 21:50Mike Marrs: So in April 30th, prior to World War II, the Rover car company was building luxury cars.
- 21:58Mike Marrs: Now, during the war, the factory.
- 22:00Mike Marrs: Got bombed.
- 22:01Mike Marrs: So restarted after they launched the Land Rover as a rugged utilitarian vehicle basically focused on agricultural.
- 22:10Mike Marrs: And the idea was to build these easy to assemble vehicles with aluminum panels, very square, very boxy for two or three years, get some money going, get back into the Main Street luxury automobile market.
- 22:21Mike Marrs: But when they finally did that, they figured out that this Land Rover they were building actually outsold the cars, so they dropped that and focused back on the Land Rover and kept building them since then and created a very historic type vehicle.
- 22:35Mike Marrs: Next, we have May the 1st.
- 22:38Mike Marrs: The first Nelson Motor Car.
- 22:40Mike Marrs: Now Nelson was a 29-horsepower car that started in 1917, and they were able to build 10 vehicles per day.
- 22:48Mike Marrs: Now this was designed very much like a European style, and it had a 2.4 liters four-cylinder engine to start with.
- 22:55Mike Marrs: So, but they began production just before World War I.
- 22:59Mike Marrs: Of course, timing is everything.
- 23:01Mike Marrs: And uh so the E.
- 23:02Mike Marrs: A.
- 23:03Mike Marrs: Nelson Auto Company had serious financial issues.
- 23:06Mike Marrs: So September 1921, the company again filed for bankruptcy, but was permanently closed.
- 23:11Mike Marrs: So from 1917 to 1921, the company produced 1,028 cars.
- 23:17Mike Marrs: There is one known preserved car left today.
- 23:20Jeff Dziekan: I'd like the wing on the back of that convertible.
- 23:23Mike Marrs: Yeah, yeah, that's for the high speed.
- 23:25Mike Marrs: Now, May the 1st, Ford also introduced a new reduced work week in 1926.
- 23:31Mike Marrs: And they did a lot, 26.
- 23:32Mike Marrs: They've done a lot of things to change production models.
- 23:35Mike Marrs: But this decision was actually made in 1922 when Ford and they described they had eight-hour working days, and it was six days a week, and it gave them a 48-hour work week.
- 23:47Mike Marrs: But in 26, 1926, it was announced that they were going to go to a five eight-hour days, giving a 40-hour work week that is generally considered what we have today.
- 23:57Mike Marrs: And um it started with uh on May the 1st and 26th, the uh the factory worker switched to that four-day, 40-hour work week, and then the office worker switched to the thereafter.
- 24:09Mike Marrs: Then in May the 1st, 1994, Arson dies at the Imola F1 Grand Prix.
- 24:19Mike Marrs: Now, this was really significant because this guy was a real up-and-comer.
- 24:23Mike Marrs: He was pretty young, and uh, but during the the qualifying runs the day before, there'd been a lot of accidents.
- 24:32Mike Marrs: Roland Rotzenberger died in qualifying in an accident.
- 24:36Mike Marrs: Now, this really brought a lot of attention to it.
- 24:38Mike Marrs: This was a friend of his, and he was really focused on it, and it really bothered him.
- 24:43Mike Marrs: So he was trying to get everything and make sure he could stay as safe as he could, new family, all that.
- 24:50Mike Marrs: He wanted to make some adjustments to the steering column of his race car the night before the race.
- 24:56Mike Marrs: No time to rebuild it.
- 24:57Mike Marrs: So his crew got together and they modified his exiling existing steering column, welded it in some pieces to extend it the way he wanted it.
- 25:07Mike Marrs: Now, things went off, he took off on the race, but anyway, he had an accident, high speed in the corner, crashed, and the steering column is what killed him.
- 25:19Mike Marrs: There was a lot of information, a lot of a lot of investigation, took years.
- 25:23Mike Marrs: Some uh the first time the owner of the team and the pit crew were charged with uh negligence because they welded it and they did not do it properly, supposedly.
- 25:34Mike Marrs: They were uh the courts found that the accident was caused because of that failure.
- 25:40Mike Marrs: And so they were all charged, and then later the courts determined that it wasn't the cause, and then again later, another trial, they decided it was.
- 25:49Mike Marrs: Nobody actually went to jail or anything, but a lot of people got charged, and it was a very sad thing, and it created a lot of changes in the F1 as far as safety and things go.
- 26:00Mike Marrs: And uh again, it was really sad to read as much about it as I did because this guy was really a nice upcomer, it seems.
- 26:07Don Armstrong: Tesla has thank you.
- 26:09Don Armstrong: Tesla tallied up uh Elon Musk's annual compensation for the first time since shareholders approved his moonshot pay package.
- 26:16Don Armstrong: And it's a doozy.
- 26:18Don Armstrong: 158 B billion dollars.
- 26:22Don Armstrong: The bulk of the sales, about 430.1 million, came from doing business with XAI, Musk's artificial intelligence startup.
- 26:30Don Armstrong: Tesla first disclosed in January.
- 26:32Don Armstrong: Automaker added this week that it also recognized another one hundred and forty-three point three million in revenue from SpaceX.
