- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Hello and welcome to This Is the Thing, where we get into all the things that we've read, seen, heard, and got a little too obsessed with this week.
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: I'm Lindsay, and this is my good friend Bev.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: Bev, how's it going?
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: We're here with our like official setup, and it's so exciting.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Look at us.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: There are headphones, there's a diffuser.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: We mean business.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that's called a diffuser.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: No, I just used a word.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: I know, I know.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: I thought it was good.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I like the confidence that comes with it.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, it had some confidence behind the word diffuser.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: I just thought, I'm gonna go for it and say the word diffuser.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Say the word diffuser.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: You're so funny.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: So, what has taken over your brain this week?
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, this is so funny that you ask this because it's not just this week.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: It is for the past since late, mid to late summer.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: I can't stop thinking about dated glam.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And I need to be like glamour shots or what era are you talking about?
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, you do know my obsession with murder she wrote.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Sure, yeah.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: We can't stop watching Murder She Wrote.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: And it is taking over our lives and it JB Fletcher, and I did Google what the B meant.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And I well, I remember it's Beatrice.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: So Jessica.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Beatrice Fletcher.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know how I knew Jessica.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: You knew yes, you know Jessica Fletcher.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Like, not necessarily per style, although I love it.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: And as a 50-year-old woman, I'm like looking ahead and I'm like You want to wear a pantsuit like and a popped collar.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: I'm like, she's got some silk in the front, she's got a popped collar all the time.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: There's something that she's doing that's so great.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: But it's also, it's not just JB Fletcher, it's all the other women, all the side characters.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: A, her family tree is enormous, and I don't know how she knows this many people and has this many cousins.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: I'll never know.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: But she knows so many people and all these women, because the the the era of murder she wrote, I will say murder she wrote like 18 times in a podcast is sponsored by Murder Fleur.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And JB Fletcher and all that she has seen.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: But uh she, okay, so all of the characters that are on with her, they all have well, shoulder pads, A, which is just the 80s is great, but there's something in the their wavy hair and there's something in the the way their makeup looks on their face.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And again, the silk bow right at the base of their neck.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: It is so interesting to me.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Do you like it?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Do you like this?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: And okay, you can't.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And I I'm like, why?
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Okay, this is this is what it comes down to for me is today, women, however, however you want to present yourself is the way you want to present, that's fine.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Like many avenues in many ways to be stylish, iconic, so many ways.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: But when I watch Murder She Wrote, I I crave the the Sigourney Weaver in the 80s, like the Ghostbuster style of Sigourney Weaver.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: I miss 90s and 80s, like sitcom moms in the style, the feathered hair, like the casual, but the the chic.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: There's something about the women, oh, and the mom from Poltergeist.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: When you watch Poltergeist again, which it's almost Halloween, you should watch it.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Uh her style, her, her, I just the way, the way, the way the women looked in the 80s and 90s.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: For some reason, I'm just, I gravitate towards so much, especially the older women.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Bringing us back to dated glam.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: I'm so obsessed with just the way they carried themselves.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: And I don't know.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you're for Halloween, you should be an 80s mom.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Or like not even mom.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Be Jessica Fletcher or be 80s glam.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Like you know, I've done this before.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I've done two years ago, I was, or a few years ago, I was.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: What's her name?
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Cheers.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Cheers.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Not Kirsty Alley.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: You look like her.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Well, when I have blonde hair.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: I don't think I've told you that before.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Like when you watch True Beverly Dallas is like a movie that me and my niece watch over and over again and think it's so funny.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: And you look exactly like her and you act like her.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: It's crazy.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: I wear that badge with honor.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: What's her name in that?
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: It's I'm losing it.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: You can find it real fast.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Phyllis Neffler.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Wait, no.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: What?
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was her name.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: What?
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, Shelly Long in Nefford.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: I was trying to think of her name in the thing.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: She was Phyllis Neffler.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: No, no, I'm talking about cheers.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: I dressed as I dressed as her in cheers.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Shelly Long's character in cheers.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Diane Chambers.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Diane Chambers.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Diane Chambers.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: I dressed up as Diane Chambers and Erin dressed up as Sam.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Sam.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: And it was so good.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: My best, my best costume was once I was Gwyneth Powcher from the Royal Tenen Bombs.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Which is such a good costume if anybody needs one, because you just need to get a blonde bob.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Do like line your eyes like crazy.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Get just like a little jersey, you know, dress that you can buy on Amazon and then socks and loafers.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: And then I just walked around pouting really intensely.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Did you have a cigarette?
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: I had a cigarette.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: I had a cigarette.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: I I mean I didn't smoke it, but I like chewed on it.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: It was such a fun costume.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Disgusting.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Disgusting.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: That's perfect.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: I can see you as a, what was her name in the movie?
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Margot.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Margot.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Margot.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: She's a vibe.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: She's always a vibe.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Such a vibe.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Will you dress up this Halloween?
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Like I think I said this last week, which is off the record.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Um, I'd probably like grab a cat ear and hand out and hand out candy.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: You would because yeah, I don't think I'll totally dress up.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Hey, well, I think you do you could do 80s mom like really well.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Back to data, Glenn.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm obsessed with.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Tell me what you're obsessed with.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: What am I obsessed with this week?
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, I have so many things that were like popping up in my algorithm.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Do you did you watch Girls on HBO?
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: I never did.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: You have to watch it.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I hear.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: And they announced that Girls is coming back for five episodes, which can always be like, well, first of all, I'm so excited because I'm the biggest girls fan in the whole world.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: I'm a big Lena Dunham fan, even though she's polarizing.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: I think she's amazing.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: I've read all her books.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: But it can either be like, because you know how I feel about and just like that.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Like they they run, they didn't run Sex in the City for me, but they they really disappointed me.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: You know, I could not watch it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: It was so cringy.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: You expect so much.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: And then you're like, and I know you feel differently.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: You feel like it was a totally different show.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: And yeah, no, I agree with you.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: I could only watch the first season.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Okay, good.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: And I didn't, I didn't, I didn't carry on with it.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Nobody intended.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Yay.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Ashley loved it and she like would argue with me about it.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: But I'm just like, they ruined it for me.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: So I'm hoping for something different.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: And if anybody can like bypass that curse, it's Lena Dunham because she is, I think she's a genius.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: I think she's the voice of our generation, which is what she says in the very first pilot episode.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: She's like, she goes to her parents and she goes, Mom and dad, I think I might be the voice of my generation.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: And they're like, sit down, girl.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: She was asking for more money.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: So she didn't have to go to work.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: And anyway, I think she is.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: And so I'm really hoping that it's gonna be amazing and I can't wait for it to come out.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: When does it come out?
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: They just like announced, I don't even think they've done it.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: They just announced we're back for another five episodes coming up or whatever.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's great.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Did you hear that they finally charged someone, found someone guilty for the Tupac Shakura murder?
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: I did.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: And I it was so funny because when that was all happening a few weeks ago, I went outside and Aaron was outside doing something.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I was like, did you know that the Tupac killer is like he's they he's at well he's in court, right?
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: There was a trial.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: And they were wasn't that 1996?
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: I know, but it's all coming to surface again, but I can't remember why.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna find his name really quick, so hold for pause.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Um Dwayne Davis, which they call KPD, they charged him and sentenced him to sentenced him to 40 years to life in Nevada for orchestrating the 1996 killer of that rapper Tupac Shakur.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: So how did they not know that then?
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Well, okay, here's the thing.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: So this is the thing.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: They they've known it for a long time, but because he was always like out in the street streets bragging about the fact that he and another guy are the people that killed Tupac Shakur.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: And and he even wrote a book that's kind of like O.J.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Simpson.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Remember O.J.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Simpson wrote a book called If I Did It or something?
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: I don't remember that, but no, he did.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: He's insane.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: And so he wrote a book talking about how he is responsible for killing Tupac.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Like, I guess it got gave him street cred.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: I don't even, I don't know why he wanted to talk about this out loud, but he did.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: And so they kind of knew forever, like, we know what happened, but can we prove it?
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Blah, blah, blah.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Well, they got this guy, they pulled him in in LA, which I think is where, yeah, LA is where it happened.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: And they said they gave him like a proffer deal, which is like, you won't have to go to jail if you we won't try you if you tell us what happened.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: Well, I guess he told him what happened, which didn't lead to further arrests.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: So I don't understand why that was such why that was a great deal for the the cops.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: But then he moved to Nevada and there's different, there's different regulations in in Nevada.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: So they charged him, which I also don't know how they can do because didn't happen in Nevada.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: I mean it did happen in Nevada.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: I think they were there to see a fight.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: I think they were there to see the Mike Tyson fight.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: So they could charge him, and they did.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: And so now he's been sentenced to 40 years of life to life.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Apparently, he has links to to P.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Diddy and he did it for P.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Diddy.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, can we just please arrest P D Diddy Diddy again?
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Because I just again like there's no one that I think is like a worse person.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: So I can think of a few.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure, sure, for sure.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I thought that was like really interesting.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: This incredibly old case that comes back.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Once again, the 90s.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's the resurgence.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: No.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: We're wearing shoulder pads and we're finding out.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: We're catching murderers.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: We're catching murderers.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: It's all, it's all, you know, bookending.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: Well, I wanted to ask you, are you did you finish the memoir that you were reading?
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: And what are you reading right now?
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: You mean Scar Tissue by Anthony Keatis?
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: That's what I stopped reading it, and no offense to Anthony Kitis, but he gets really detailed and talks for many, many pages about his sexual conquests.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: And I'm sure a lot of people, it's a very popular book.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: So I'm sure a lot of people love it.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: I was like, I'm good on hearing, you know, what he did with another groupie in the hallway of a hotel room.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: So I stopped reading it.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: But I did pick up another memoir and I've like a very memoir phase.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Have you heard of Jen Hatmaker's book, Awake?
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: No.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: I've only read like a little bit of it, but it starts off.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Did you read?
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Did you read Strangers by Bell Burton?
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Not yet.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: It's on my list.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: It is in my queue, and I haven't done it yet.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: It's amazing how similar.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: I know they had different experiences, but both of them in the start of the COVID pandemic, which I know COVID broke up a lot of marriages, but in the start of the COVID pandemic in Bell Burton and in Jen, they both find out their husband's cheating on them.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: And it breaks up their marriage, obviously.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: And so it starts off and she's like, I hear him leaving a voice note and he's saying something like, I can't live without you.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: I miss your body, or something very sexual.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: And he's saying it to his mistress, obviously.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: And so she like lets him go back to sleep and grabs his phone and goes through it and realizes what he's doing.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: And then she leaves him.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: That's what Jen Haymaker is doing.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Bill Burton was different, but she still found out about it.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: And so yeah, like maybe I'm moving from an addiction memoir to divorce memoirs.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: It sounds about right.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: You're on the path.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: I'll get back to thrillers soon enough.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm doing.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: What about you?
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: So I'm finishing today.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: I'm about to finish.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Do you know the author uh Frieda McFadden?
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think that's a good thing.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: I'm divorced.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: Everybody knows.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: And did you know that her name, her real name is like Sarah Cohen?
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Truly.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: And she wears a wig.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: That was all, I think that came out this summer too.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: And she's a doctor.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: And she's a doctor?
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: I didn't know that.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: So I'm reading, I read the The House Maid, right?
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Is that the word?
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Uh Housemaid.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: And it was made into a movie.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Haven't seen the movie, but I'm reading.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: I'm about to finish The Housemaid's Secret.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: So it's the same gal from The Housemaid.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: It's Millie from The Housemaid.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: And she is at a new, at a new residence in Manhattan.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: It all takes place.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: And you know, and she's she's broke and she's got this boyfriend that's really great to her, blah, blah, blah.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: But I it's, and I'm almost done.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: And the what I like is the twists.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: It's like I Frida's good.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, this is my take on her books.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: It's not the writing that that gets you there.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: It's not.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Because, you know, it's just, it kind of explains itself over and over.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Her characters, her main characters, tend to say, like, maybe I'll do this, maybe I won't.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Maybe today's the day he finds out really all about me, but maybe I can't see it yet because I just can't say it yet.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: But maybe I can because maybe I can, but maybe I can't.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: And like, and it drives me nuts.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: That that that aspect drives me crazy.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: But it's not that that's enjoyable.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: It's just the stories are so fast and the twists keep coming.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: And who you think you can trust, you cannot.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: It's a trust no one kind of thing.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: She's great at plotting for the show.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: The plot drives and it's quick.
- 12:25unknown: Yeah.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: It's fun.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: It's good for this time of year because it's quick and thrilling and it's it's got all those vibes.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Have you did you follow the American Idol Murder case?
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: No, but I see clips on Instagram, so I feel like I know everything.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: I started with clips and then I started listening to all the podcasts about it.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna tell you about it.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: I want to know.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: So this guy who really wasn't, they call it the American Idol murder case because it's catchy, but like he he never was he was never on the show.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: He did make it to Hollywood, you know, and they're like, You're going to Hollywood.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: They did make it to Hollywood, but then whatever happened in that first round, he wasn't they cut him immediately and he wasn't interesting enough to even show it on the show.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: What regardless, I think his name's Caleb Flynn.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: They still call it the American My Idol thing, which is silly.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Silly.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: So years later, after his, you know, minor fame, his two minutes of fame instead of 15, he's married with kids.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: And on the American Idol show, they have all these cuts of him talking about his wife.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: He loves his wife so much.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: He's here for his wife.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: He is So he was married to her back when he was on the show.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he has the best wife who's so supportive.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: 20 seconds on the show.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: He's also the music director at a church or something.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: So which always is like, I feel like there's so many like pastor murder cases that is like what is what is that?
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: This is gonna, I shouldn't say this, my mom will get mad, but it's like, is there something like how surgeons are all sociopaths, like are all pastor sociopaths?
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: I could talk about that forever.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Not all of them, but obviously, you know, sometimes there's like a propensity if you go into a certain thing, like podcasters, all sociopaths.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: So he's married, he's a pastor, he's a he is a pastor to church, he's having an affair, of course.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: He wants to get out of his marriage, and instead of just getting a divorce, here's what he does.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: He calls the he calls the cops one night and he says, Oh my god, my wife was shot, my wife was shot, blah, blah, blah.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: It's the middle of the night.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: And so they come over and they're like, Okay.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Yes, someone walked in the house, grabbed a gun from his truck, by the way, because he said, I had a gun in the console of my truck, a nine millimeter.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: Now it's gone.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: So they must have taken my gun, walked into the bedroom where she was sleeping, and shot her.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, where were you?
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Well, I was sleeping in the twin, the girls' bed, not twins, the girls' bedroom.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: They have daughters, like little daughters.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Well, why were you sleeping in the girls' bedroom?
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Because I had the flu or I have a cold and she didn't want to get it.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, so she wanted her kids to get it, which is gonna be a bigger nightmare for her, by the way.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: So she wants the kids to get it.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, so that makes no literally no sense.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: He saw, he didn't even see the person.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: He just assumed, you know, the back door was open.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: Someone must have ran in in the middle of the night and shot my wife.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: The thing that is, I mean, that is interesting to me about this is like this is the worst plotted thing I've ever heard.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: He's never read a Freedom McFadden book.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: He's never clearly hasn't.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: He's never watched a dateline.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: He's never- This is the worst plan I have ever heard in my it in my whole life.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: It's so unbelievable.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: That you actually thought they would they were gonna be like, yeah, you're right.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: This was definitely an intruder.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: No.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: What was his motive?
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: He had a girlfriend.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: That's that's right.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, I g I mean, girlfriend doesn't want to pay alimony.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Is he still at this point when this murder happens?
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: Is he still a pastor?
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think so.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: That's about right.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Well, he was found guilty and he did not get the death penalty because I think her mom, you know, when they give the victim impact statements, was said like the punishment is, I believe punishment is bad enough to just be not bad enough, but like it's worse to be locked up every day thinking about what you did, which I think there's validity to that.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Um, rather than him getting out easy and getting the death penalty.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: So I kind of went down a rabbit hole with that.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: And his reaction in the courtroom, it's so hard.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, obviously it's guilt.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's shaking and crying, and you know, his face is just like gaunt and just he's he's falling apart.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: And it's just like, well, sorry.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: You did it.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: You did.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: That's insane.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: So that was a crazy case.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: So that was the podcast rabbit hole I went down this week.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Did you listen to anything this week?
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: So yes, I'm listening to this podcast right now.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Actually, my friend Mindy told me about it earlier in the week, and we're listening to it together.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: It is called, okay, I think the, I think the, it's called In the Dark and then The Journey.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: So it's all about, but I haven't listened.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Go ahead.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's all about surrogacy, which is I also know a polarizing topic right now.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: I've been seeing things of like banning, you know, should surrogacy be banned?
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: And the people that are there, I mean, there are multiple ways to look at it.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: I don't even have an opinion on surrogacy.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: I truly don't.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: As most people know, I had, I went through IVF.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: Aaron and I, it's it's us, you know, our kids are ours.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: But what's happening in this podcast is that there's a couple and they have like a spotty history.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: It's a woman who needed money and this man from China, they get together and they are they're hiring surrogates to have the most massive family, but we don't know that right at the beginning.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Like it's just like this woman who's pregnant and she's she's offering her body to to because they they pose themselves as they don't have any children and they really just want a child.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Well, come to find out they have a lot from multiple women.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: And it gets really, really crazy.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: And, you know, they're and right off the bat, you know, they're under investigation for what's going on here?
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: What's what's the situation?
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: And I don't I won't go too deep into it, but they find all the children at their house.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: So they're keeping all the children, they're not starting some weird adoption agents, brogue adoption agents.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: That's what's confusing to me is that they at this point they have 24.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: My God.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: And most of them are at this house, but some of like there, this one woman had twins, and the twins went into the NICU and they never showed up.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: They showed up like a month later to to collect, but the but like the hospital was like, who's in charge of these kids?
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: And the the the the birth mother, you know, she was like, I was a surrogate.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: She's like, I don't want these twins.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: She honestly, she was like, but I'll take them.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: You know, she was like, if no one's here, like I I what's going on?
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Like I'll I'll care for them.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: And they but they were had they were born two months early.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: So they had to be in the NICU.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: It was a site, you know, situation where they had to stay there.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: And during all of the those last few weeks, like they they weren't around.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: And so it's crazy.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: So I'm just curious.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: My big question is, why?
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Why are you, which I think is the question of anything?
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: Like, what's your motive?
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: Why are you doing this?
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: Why, why have 24 kids when you're treating them the way they are being treated?
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: And what what about these that you're not doing anything with?
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: It's so confusing and it's really fascinating.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I want to listen to that.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: I've seen it like come up as a suggestion.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Speaking of pregnancy, did you hear that Hilary Swank said announced that she's pregnant at 52?
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: No.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: She had twins at 40 or something, and she came out, and I was like, I was thinking surrogacy, but like belly.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Everything.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: Let me see if I can find it.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Are we sure it's not just menopausal bloating?
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Right, no.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, a hundred percent.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: You're sure?
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: That's interesting.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Hillary swang 52 broke down the benefits of having babies later in life.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Hillary described her different experience, welcoming children later in the months before announcing she's pregnant again at 52.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: The actress told Women's Health magazine she can really sink in and be present and hands-on parent.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: She has three-year-old twins already.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: I'm a different parent than I would have been in even in my 40s.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and there's a picture of her.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: I that's crazy.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: 52.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: I don't even think.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: 52 is crazy.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: And I want power.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: I want her to have whatever she wants.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: But I'm sure she has a team to help her.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: I don't, at that point, you're you're gonna have help.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: But I as far as the body though, I can't imagine going through perimenopause.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: I don't understand how it's physically possible, if I'm being honest.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: But then all the changes that we experience of women of a certain age around 50, it's like pair that with pregnancy hormones and not getting any sleep because you have a new baby.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: And I just think that that's a that's crazy.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: I want to take a nap.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Just thinking about it.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Just thinking about it.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: I'm very happy for her if she's happy, and I think that's wonderful.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: But ooh, hell no.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: No, absolutely not.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: No.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Speaking of menopause, I read this thing that is discouraged.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know if it's discouraging or not.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: It said they studied menopause and found out that it's less of like a lad gradual aging process and more of a cliff.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Did you read that?
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: That like so I'm actually, I I do know a little bit about it, but I'm also very not confused, but I have been told that menopause is actually just one day.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: What?
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: I would I mean I'm into this theory.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but then like it's like one day, but I don't know if that's true.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: And then the day after you're it's post-menopause.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: And so I don't know.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: We have to find out.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Is menopause literally just one day?
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Or I mean, peri can be years.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: No, menopause is not just one day.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: I didn't think so.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Um, it is officially reached on the single day.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Well, so I understand this theory.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Maybe your friend is saying it is officially reached on the single day that marks 12 consecutive months since you had your last menstrual period.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: So that's like, and I've heard that too.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: When a doctor will tell you after 12 months, yes, you are now in menopause.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: So I guess that's probably the thing.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Do you think it's ever happened that like you haven't had a period for 12 months and then on month 14 or 15 we get a period?
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: Probably.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: Then what does that mean?
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: I'm sure it has.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: I'm sure it has.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: For all the menopause talk that's in my algorithm and all the paramenopause talk that's in my algorithm, that's one thing I don't know.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: Can you go 12 months without having a period and then three or four months later get one?
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Is that impossible?
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: No, it's definitely not because everything crazy can everything you ask your doctor, they're like, no, that can happen.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: And you're like, okay.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: My doctor says it's like right around 52.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: I know it's different for every woman, but she was like, What right?
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: Typically, it's 52.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Right where Hillary Sprank is having a baby.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm wondering if that's just really just menopause bloating.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: She is that that's really there.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Okay, so this is what it said that I was kind of like, ugh.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: I just think it's a confusing subject.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, like it as much information that's out there, it's like, but wait, what?
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: Okay, so menopause is less of a gradual aging and more of a physiological cliff before their final period, where many systems in the body under undergo change in a sudden space of time rather than gradually with age.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: This affects your liver, your kidneys, your heart, your brain.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: Bad, bad, bad.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, this is this is bad news.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: I don't know that I now I'm worried about a physiological cliff I'm gonna fall off of.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: Um, but they do say hormone replacement therapy can help ease this this transition.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Ask your doctor exactly.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: Side effects may include.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: What else are is taking over your brains?
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: We are charging towards Halloween, except we have a soccer tournament, and so we can't make true plans.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: And both of my kids have grown out of the era of their costumes being like cute, you know, and like like last week or last year, Nat was a cow, like a dairy cow.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: Cute.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: And this year it's Scream.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: You know, so the transition was very, very quick.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: But last year, Will was man trampled by cows because Nat and her best friend were cows.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's funny.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: And so he was hospitally looking and he had a cast on and a little bit of blood.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: But this this year, he it's nightmare on Elm Street style.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, what happened?
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: That's fine.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: We talked about this last week, but what horror movies are how are they allowed to watch at this age?
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: So we okay obviously scream.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: Well, they've seen Matt has seen a bit of scream.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Yes, a bit of scream.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh, okay, okay.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: Maybe not, you know, it it was quick, but the scream vibe is more what they're into, is the mask, and but they're that she's doing this with some friends, and she's bedazzling the mask with all these like silver and and uh like gray little jewels.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: She's glaming, she's glam.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: 80s glam scream.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: 80s glam murder glam.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: Totally dated glam murder, dated murder glam.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: It sounds like a series by Ryan Murphy.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: You would definitely do 80s murder glam.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: So she's doing that, and but we don't, we're just, yeah, and the Will is gonna be a hospital escapey sort of mental patient.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: Mental patient.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: But a glam, but a glam mental patient.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: A glam mental, yes, exactly.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Like there will be dated glam woven into all of this.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: I will get, I will make not wear a shoulder pad by the by the end of Halloween.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: What do you think is the scariest movie you've ever seen?
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Paranormal activity.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: I can say that so fast.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: So fast.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: See, this is the thing with me in horror movies.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Well, I should say I find monsters to be hokey.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: I'm not very, I'm not like, oh no, there's a monster.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: You that doesn't bother me.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Scary realism.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: The movie Paranormal Activity, Erin and I watched it a million years ago when it came out.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: And I it's just psychologically gotten to my head and every and I was like looking for footprint, like just weird.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: I was like looking for baby powder and footprints, and you know, it was it's terrifying.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Have you seen it?
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I can't remember it well enough to like do it called, but I remember I remember being really scared.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: There's a scene where she's in bed and this the sheet pulls off of her and then in the night, but it's it's so it's so perfectly done because it has like a slight Blair Witch vibe, yeah, in the sense of it feels like a documentary.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: It's not overly produced, it's low budget, which is perfect.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: I love that kind of stuff.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: And so I say love, I'm terrified, but I also love it.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Like Blair Witch is one of my favorite horrors, whatever movies, thriller movies.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Because back then I thought it was real.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: And everyone thought it was real.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: When we went to the movies in the 90s, we thought it was real.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: And I just walked out, just that was the best and the worst thing I've ever seen.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Like, what?
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: We're never going camping again.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: No.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: But paranormal, that's just terrifying to me.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: But one thing I do love, and I will die on this hill, is I think that poltergeist is the best, uh, not horror, but best quote unquote scary movie.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: Because I think with Steven Spielberg, it is such a masterpiece.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: And I think the music is beautiful, the family relationships, A, and also like the mom's style, like the way she looks.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: There's something so iconic about her and her fashion sense.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: And I love the movie so much, and I know it has a lot of sadness around it after the little girl.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: What was her name?
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Heather?
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Heather.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Heather's been interesting to me too.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: I think she passed away during the filming of the second one, is what I think it happened.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: But Poltergeist is one of those movies where it's so beautifully done and the music is so good, and there's fog, and the ghost in the movie, it's like it, they he does such a good job of creating not gore, but it's like when the tree comes in and takes the little boy out of his bed.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: It it's the stuff of nightmares, but it's done so well, and it's so, it's so classic looking that I think it's perfection.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: I think that poltergeist is perfection.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: And so the kids have seen that a many times.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Blair, which I was thinking, like, what's mine?
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: Blair, which for sure.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: I remember watching it in the theater.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: I went with like some coworkers.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: I worked at a restaurant, and I remember I like was too scared to drive home by myself.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: I think I made someone drive me home and I went back and got my car the next day, which is very me-coded.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: But like I was so terrified.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, remember the tent that they're in the tent and it's hitting the, they're hitting the top of it.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Whatever, whatever it was.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Oh my God.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: It was terrifying.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: So I think, yeah, that's my scariest.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: And also this movie called The Strangers.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Did you ever see that?
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: Liv Tyler's in it.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: And then some other sexy guy, I can't remember.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: It's like the sexy guy's her boyfriend, and they're in this abandoned cabin and someone knocks on the door, and like it's these people that say they um they're the strangers.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: They're these people that like say they're having car trouble.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: And I don't know if they even let if they let them in first or they say no or whatever, but then these people descend on Liv Tyler and her boyfriend, and I'm sure they kill them in the end.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: It's just the scariest.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: Those are the best.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: I love those movies when there's somebody in a cabin.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: You're like that, you feel like a nurse, they need help.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're either teenagers or they're hicks, or they were hicks, yeah.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, those are the best.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Do you believe in ghosts or do you have any good ghost stories that have happened to you?
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: I wish I had good ghost stories.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: I wish.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: I have a like, it's gonna, it's a lame answer just to say, I don't know.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: I want to say no, but I also want to say, yeah, probably.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, probably why why why not?
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Why not?
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Why not?
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: There's so many unexplained things.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: But I personally don't.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: My kids were actually, Natalie was asked asking me last week.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: I think it came up because her eyes had played a trick on her and she thought she saw something.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: And she goes, Have you ever thought you saw something?
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Yeah, actually.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: And it's something that sticks out, and this is a very lame story.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: So I'm warning you now.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: These words that are coming out of my mouth, they're gonna be like, you shouldn't have told all that.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: But it was in New Mexico, and I remember standing in the living room and thinking that I saw someone run down our hallway.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: And like I was looking at the hallway though.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: It wasn't like out of the corner of my eye.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was sort of looking that direction, and I saw just like a flash of darkness.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Just went, and then I was terrified.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: I'm going into the bedrooms to check this out.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: I'm going to check this out.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: And then nobody was there, but I I was freaked out to my parents.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: They were like, your eyes played a trick on you.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: That's it's just called your eyes playing a trick on you.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: It's there's no one there.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: It's just, but that has I have thought about that multiple times in my entire life, up until the point where I'm obsessed with data glam.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: And now here I am.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Now here I am.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: What about you?
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: I totally, I totally believe in it just because why not, I guess, kind of.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: Also, here's my other piece of evidence.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Okay, my aunt, my dad's sister, is one of the most level-headed, just like if you want solid advice, you go to Aunt Rose.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: She's really, really just feet on the ground, solid.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: She, Aunt Rose knows, she's amazing.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: She's married to an equally solid, amazing, logical human.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: And they have these crazy ghost stories.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: They used to live in Greeley.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: It was far, it was kind of off.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: There wasn't like they had a bunch of neighbors, right?
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: And them, my aunt and my uncle, along with their daughter, Jenna, have all these ghost stories from when they lived in Greeley.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: My uncle Bob, my Aunt Rose wasn't there, and he rolled over and felt something like indent on the bed, and someone sits down and he could feel like heat and all of this.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: And they were just like at this point where they were like, it's the ghost.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: And my cousin Jenna heard or saw, heard or both saw both little kids running down the hall into the basement.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: They had these crazy stories, all of them.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Actually seeing people and stuff.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: And if someone at another family told me this, I'd be like, you know, those quacks that told me that those crazy stories.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: But if you met them, you'd be like, I believe now.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Because they're not that kind of people.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: They're not those kind of people.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: They're like, we're gonna make up a story to be funny or to get attention.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Anything, but I oh, every time we see them, which I'm seeing them in Thanksgiving, I'm like, tell me because they yeah, tell me some of ghost stories.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: I love them.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I believe them.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: Why what what would what would they have to gain about making that?
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: You know, I know.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: And are their eyes playing tricks and I don't know.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: But but you never know.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: It's always very fascinating to me when people have legit leg solid stories like that, and you know that it's coming from a place of just it's their their their story.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: They're not they're not seeking attention, they're not doing anything else.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: I find that very, very fascinating.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: Um were you watching this week?
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: Just murder she wrote?
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: Just murder she wrote.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: That's all I'm that's really truly all I'm watching.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: I haven't watched, and I haven't watched very much of it.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: Aaron's watching Below?
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: The Below?
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: I've seen it come up, yeah.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Josh Hartman.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: And I mean, where is he?
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: Like suddenly he's like, I have a career again.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Very yes.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: Left for 15 years.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: And wasn't he in Virgin Suicides?
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: And he was super he was super hot in like the late, not that he's not, I don't mean hot, I mean hot as in career hot in the late 90s, maybe early 2000s, and then he like disappeared.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: Just disappeared.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: Well, he was in the show and Aaron really enjoyed that.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: But I I don't carve out the time to watch anything besides JB Fletcher and her dated blip and her shoulder pads.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, I'm a big TV watcher.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: I watched, and I love a documentary.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: I'll watch a documentary on my neighbors if they made one.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: I'd be like, I'm fascinated with them.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: Tell me about their accounting job.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: I watched one on Mike Tyson last night, three or four parts, and it was so it was just fascinating.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, he is he is like a wild guy, which is not surprising because everybody remembers all the stuff that happened to him.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: The part ear.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: He's the ear.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: He bit off a Vander Holyfield.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Okay, he bit off of the ear.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: He didn't have his ear bitten off.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: No, he was fighting a Vander Holyfield and he was losing.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: And so he just leaned in and bit him twice.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: He bit him once, and a Vander Holyfield said, We can keep, we can keep going.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Because they said, you know, do you want to have him forfeit because he did this or whatever?
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: And he's like, No, let's keep going.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: And Vander Holyfield's a good stud.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: But he bit him again.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: Then he bit him again.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: After he said yes, it's okay.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Did the ear come off of the ear?
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: At the top of the ear, you could see a bite, literally a bite out of the top of his ear.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: Was that the first bite or the first one?
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: That was the first.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: The second bite didn't didn't do anything.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Slow down, Tyson.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: So he continued on and Vander Holyfield won.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: It's like the Matthew Perry thing that I was obsessed with.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Real Matthew Perry has a had a really bad addiction.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: We all know he passed.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: But Mike Tyson also, I mean, made half a billion dollars in his career.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: He could not have been more successful.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: But just the trauma from his past, and he had a very traumatic past.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: He he is so haunted.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: And they're like talking to him now in present day.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: And you can tell he's still not, I mean, he's obviously calmed down a lot because he's 60, but he's still like a hurt, a hurt person.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: He's he's really, he really struggles with just his mental health.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: And like they're like, oh my God, you were the best.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: You were the biggest.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: You made so much money.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: And he's like, I don't even like he doesn't even know if he could feel it, like if he was happy or whatever.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: And Matthew Perry kind of said the same thing.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Like, I was on friends.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: Everyone would have killed to be on friends and make a million dollars a week.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: And I don't know if I was even happy, you know?
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: It's just crazy.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Because you kind of think like that's the top of the mountain of for sure.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: Of what you should get and where you should go.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: And yeah.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: So Tyson also struggled with addiction.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: Big time.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Big time.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: So that's what clouds, that's what clouds it all.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: He was like, he was a big Coke guy.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Big alcohol guy, big Coke guy.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: There isn't the ears, too.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: And he really loved ears.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's gotten sober, but he's like, Yeah, I got sober, but I feel like he got sober like a couple years ago.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: It doesn't sound like and sound like it's been that long.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: His wife, of course, he has just this long, what's the word, suffering wife.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: She's great and beautiful, but I'm you're like, God, what have you been through?
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Because they've been together for 17 years.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Who knew that Mike Tyson and his wife?
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: He hasn't, he hasn't gone anywhere near her ears, right?
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Her ears were intact.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: They're intact.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: We're in good shape.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: Fascinating.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: I probably will skip that one.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: You know, I there's I have so much JB Fletcher to get through.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: And the summer murders, if we're being honest.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: Like, we gotta get through all the the the the the Brit murders and the 80s glam.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: The Brits do the murder stuff.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: They do like way better.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: They do it so well.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it's their accent or just the way they sort of the way they move along the field and like they notice, I don't know.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: Do you like it to be like light, like JB Fletcher, or do you like a dark one?
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: I like somewhere in between.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: So I like uh we toggle between JB Fletcher and Midsummer Murders.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: It's British and it's it it has been on forever.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: I mean 28 seasons, I think.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: It's sort of law and order style where it's been on so, so long.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: You just get really obsessed with the the the main detective and his family, his wife and daughter.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: And I can't I'm blanking on their name, Phyllis, maybe just kidding.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: Phyllis Knappler.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Diane Chambers, I think is the wife's the the fan.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: It's it's done so well.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: And but they're they're long episodes, they're about an hour and a half each.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: So you it's like watching a movie.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: But so you disinvest, you're like, I'm gonna watch a movie, but it's this episode of Midsummer Murders.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: And it's it's not hokey.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: The show isn't hokey.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: It's done well and it has a soft 90s vibe to it, the way it looks and feels and their I don't know, their clothing and the way they talk, the way they speak to each other.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: I think it's it's the best.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: If you okay, so broad broadchurch is my favorite British.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: Did you watch it?
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: Okay, so that's why I was like, I don't want that's too dark for you because it's pretty dark.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I loved Broadchurch.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: Olivia Coleman.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Olivia Coleman is the lead, the best.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: And I think that's like the first time I like fell in love with her, you know, because it was a long time, a while back.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, who's this woman?
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: She's amazing.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: And then now she's in everything.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: And then fleabag, then she was, yeah, and she's so perfect in fleabag.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: Which fleabag is just the most perfect show.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: It's bite-sized, it's digestible, it's hysterical, it leaves you wanting more.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: They did it just, they did it perfectly.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: The British people are famous for like two episodes, two seasons, make it genius and get out, where we'll like runs something into the ground over here.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: It's like season 11.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I loved Fleabag.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: That's like on my list of best shows ever.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Aaron's.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: I've done that.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: Do you think he would like?
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, Aaron's very, very open-minded.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: It's such a girl show.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's quirky.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: And so I think that he would be like, meh, right.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: But I'm like, you could have written it though.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Like that and New Girl.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: I always tell him, I'm like, New Girl is a show that you could have written.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: Those characters, that that dialogue, that style of humor, the way they banter, the way they cut each other up and down.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: It's I was like, you could have written that show and he'll never watch it.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, it's it's the funniest thing.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I don't know.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: He watches a lot more shows than I do.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: And I I don't really carve the time out.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: You're busy.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: No, I like to read though.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: We covered it all.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: We covered so much today.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: We have shows to watch, we have books to to read and and podcasts to listen to.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: And 80s glam to do.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna do some later.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: And some shoulder pads to hunt down.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: And uh make sure that you do get a silk like bow in front of your in front of your clavicle.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: I think that's all for this week.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: Don't forget to like, follow, and share the show because your support is how we feed our kids and our dogs.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: Bye.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: Bye.
