Transcript
- 0:09Brandan: This is the Sea Hawkers Podcast, episode 506.
- 0:15I'm Brandan Schulze, and I am joined by my good buddy Adam Emmert, as
- 0:20our Seahawks are 1 and 0 after week one of the season, riding high at
- 0:26the top of the division, sharing it with two other teams that…
- 0:30I, I don't like sharing, you know, spots at the top of the
- 0:35division with, but here we are.
- 0:36We're with the Cardinals and the 49ers.
- 0:38Totally what we expected would happen.
- 0:40Adam: I've got good news, Brandan.
- 0:41You're not gonna have to share that spot for very long, and that's gonna
- 0:44be really fun when the Seahawks do hold the division lead outright.
- 0:48what a fantastic week of week one football.
- 0:51Man, it feels so good for it to be back.
- 0:53It felt so awesome to be at the stadium for the season opener for the
- 0:58Seahawks, watching the banner unveiled.
- 1:00It was awesome to watch our Seahawks come back and just be resilient
- 1:04and, steal the heart and soul of the Patriots yet once again.
- 1:08And, then it was kinda awesome to see the, the Rams pull a dum-dum
- 1:12and, like, show up, you know, what, 10 minutes before the game.
- 1:16And it's about how I threw the graphics in for our show this week.
- 1:19I, I'm on the Sean McVay timeline apparently, just last minute.
- 1:22Brandan: Last minute.
- 1:23May- maybe that's all it was.
- 1:24Maybe it wasn't, it, it wasn't that, you know, he thought it
- 1:28was the smartest thing to do.
- 1:29He's just a procrastinator, and really just wasn't sure about how to travel, so
- 1:34it was just wing it and go last minute.
- 1:36To…
- 1:36I s- I suppose when you have the…
- 1:40You have your own private plane, you can do things like that.
- 1:42You don't have to plan for travel, you just, you wing it as you go.
- 1:46Adam: wouldn't know, but, we could save some of the talk about
- 1:50the last t- last place team in the division for the second half of the show.
- 1:54Can't wait to talk about that.
- 1:55But Brandan, big win for the Seahawks, in Lumen Field, opening
- 2:00night, championship banner unveiled.
- 2:03It was awesome, man.
- 2:04Brandan: It was very awesome.
- 2:05And you said a word right off the top that, I think our
- 2:11head coach would approve of, Adam, because it is resilience.
- 2:14And that was the one thing…
- 2:16I, it was, after, he gave his press conference, he, he seemed to
- 2:21wanna make it known that resilience was, I, I guess going to be a
- 2:27message for the team going forward.
- 2:30because he, he did tag it.
- 2:32and he almost seemingly wanted to emphasize it when he
- 2:37talked about it in his presser.
- 2:39[Mike Macdonald, postgame presser]: The win, but also understand it's the first game.
- 2:42And, we have a really great opportunity here to
- 2:45that was Pete Carroll… take our game to the next level.
- 2:47But we talk about the 22 Seahawks and understanding our identity and who we are.
- 2:51I think that definitely revealed the type of team that we have.
- 2:54A resilient, tough bunch that sticks together.
- 2:57So I'm, I'm really proud of the effort, and, just really proud
- 3:00proud to be a Seahawk today, so.
- 3:02Brandan: You could see him, Adam, kinda look down toward his notes where
- 3:07he said, "A resilient, tough bunch."
- 3:10And, so it, it seemed like for his 2026 Seahawks, that
- 3:14that, that was kind of his big takeaway, from week one.
- 3:19And I…
- 3:20When you go into a game and you lose your quarterback, like, what, four or
- 3:25five plays into the game, resilience is a, a word that comes to mind.
- 3:30Adam: It really does.
- 3:31And it was one of those things that really stood out throughout
- 3:34the course of the game.
- 3:35And you can see a team that has the confidence in themselves, a team
- 3:39that has been there before, done that before, and knows no matter what
- 3:42no matter who comes in, they can band together and get the job done.
- 3:47And I thought this game was the epitome of what championship resilience looks like.
- 3:53And the defense just hung in there, kept giving the offense opportunity
- 3:57after opportunity to get it done.
- 3:59Then when we got to the fourth quarter, we really needed to turn the screws on
- 4:03the Patriots just a little bit harder.
- 4:05Man, defense steps up and Josh Jobe comes away with the game-winning
- 4:09interception, and, all of the sadness from the Boston area.
- 4:13It was fantastic.
- 4:14It, it was a great, great play by him.
- 4:16Brandan: That Josh Jobe interception, the, the call from Westwood One.
- 4:22Now, I know we generally highlight our own Steve Raible and his
- 4:25calls, but for whatever reason, the Seahawks did not put up the Steve
- 4:30Raible call up on seahawks.com.
- 4:33So I only had the, the Kevin Harlan clip from Westwood One, and I have
- 4:39to imagine it's just as spectacular, as what Steve Raible had to say.
- 4:44[Kevin Harlan, radio broadcast call]: On five.
- 4:46Patriots down by three, 26 seconds to go.
- 4:49Shotgun snap to Maye.
- 4:50Move out of the pocket, throws a
- 5:05pass.
- 5:05End zone.
- 5:05Intercepted in the end zone.
- 5:05Was he in bounds?
- 5:05Intercepted by Jobe.
- 5:05Seattle has picked off Maye.
- 5:12They've done it again!
- 5:13The defense of Seattle has done it again Drake Maye has thrown his
- 5:17third interception in this quarter
- 5:20Brandan: And the thing about the, the, the third interception of the quarter, it
- 5:25it, well, it, he- listening to Drake Maye afterward, it sounded like he was very
- 5:33frustrated by our Seahawks defense through the first three quarters of the game.
- 5:37Adam: For sure.
- 5:38And look, that's the day and age of football that we live in.
- 5:41Two high shells, lots of complicated looks.
- 5:44We're gonna make you check it down and see if you can beat us through
- 5:48a death by a thousand cuts, and have to execute 14, 15 times in a
- 5:52row on a drive to actually score.
- 5:56And that's really difficult to do.
- 5:57And especially as a young guy with a big arm, a guy that beasted off of big
- 6:02plays throughout his regular season last year against, well, nobody.
- 6:07that's who it was against throughout, with the weakest schedule in the history
- 6:11of the league, or, like, in the last 25 years of the league or whatever it was.
- 6:14Brandan: Yeah.
- 6:15Adam: And he lost his cool.
- 6:16He lost his patience.
- 6:17And I, I think also too, I think Josh McDaniels tried to protect him
- 6:22throughout the game as well from, like, falling into that trap, kind of their
- 6:25conservative offensive game plan, and allowed him to take a couple shots.
- 6:29And Drake was like, "Hey, green light.
- 6:31Let's go."
- 6:31And he didn't care.
- 6:33He's, he's chucking it up into team meetings.
- 6:35He's, late on quick throws that are three-step drops, and throwing
- 6:38it to Josh Jobe so he could break the heart of every, Masshole out there.
- 6:42It was great.
- 6:43It was great.
- 6:43And it was fun to watch a young quarterback lose his cool and a
- 6:47championship t- caliber team just keep tightening the screws, and tightening
- 6:51the screws, and making it hard.
- 6:53Down five, Patriots down by
- 6:54Brandan: three.
- 6:55Oh.
- 6:56Adam: There we go.
- 6:57Brandan: There we go.
- 6:57It's live.
- 6:58We're- It's live… trying to figure it out.
- 6:59We're
- 6:59Adam: playing with new stuff this episode, guys.
- 7:01So there's gonna be some glitches.
- 7:04Brandan: yeah.
- 7:05So Drake Maye, y- you mentioned his patience, and that's what he explicitly
- 7:10said, is that he lost his patience.
- 7:13And it's almost…
- 7:14You have to wonder if it was Josh McDaniels who's saying, you know
- 7:20"Hey, w- this is the game plan.
- 7:22We're gonna check it down.
- 7:23We're gonna take what they give us."
- 7:24And then, yeah, he, he…
- 7:28But maybe the…
- 7:29I, I wonder if McDaniels lost a pa- his patience too and said, "Hey, we…"
- 7:33You know, especially after three quarters, "Now it's time to take some shots."
- 7:37But i- if, if that was the case, it wasn't Drake Maye dop- dropping the dime on
- 7:43him.
- 7:43[Drake Maye, postgame presser]: Just stopped being patient.
- 7:43Brandan: You know, I think that's a big thing.
- 7:44We were, we were, you know, really good up to the point where I tried
- 7:47to put, you know, fourth one down the sideline to Romeo, where we were
- 7:49patient and, you know, dumping it off and trying to move the chains and, you
- 7:53know, we avoid a lot of three and outs.
- 7:54And that was, you know, something we try to, you know, just earn
- 7:56more plays and the closest we come.
- 7:58So, you know, just stopped being patient, and, you know, made
- 8:01decisions that, you know, ended up, like I said, that cost us the game.
- 8:06Brandan: So-
- 8:06Adam: Yeah… stop being patient Cost you the game, bud
- 8:08Yeah, yeah, tough break for you.
- 8:10so yeah, Josh Jobe with the game-winning, INT, and
- 8:14he also collected all the Patriots tears, and that was nice in one game.
- 8:18leads the league in Patriots tears this year, which is
- 8:20Brandan: I think he leads the league in, in post-game
- 8:23awesome interviews too.
- 8:25Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:26The, do you have that one, that sound bite there?
- 8:28'Cause that one was fun.
- 8:29Do
- 8:30Brandan: it.
- 8:31[Josh Jobe, postgame interview]: I just looked for the ball, I found the ball.
- 8:33My mind, my mind was on ball, ball, ball, ball.
- 8:35Get ball, get ball.
- 8:35See ball, get ball
- 8:39Brandan: Get ball.
- 8:39Ball, ball, ball.
- 8:40See ball, get ball
- 8:42Adam: Yeah, man.
- 8:43Look, I'll, I'll tell you what, you listen to offensive players
- 8:46describe the mentality of defensive players and, they always make it
- 8:50sound like very dumbed down and like just, you know, very limited vocabulary.
- 8:54Josh Jobe did not help the case of defensive players
- 8:57with that interview.
- 8:59You know, "Ball, ball, ball, get ball.
- 9:00I only ball.
- 9:01I, all I want is the ball.
- 9:02Like, where's the ball?"
- 9:03Yeah.
- 9:04not helping out there.
- 9:05but look man, I love the mentality, went after it.
- 9:08What a fantastic catch, in the end zone, and something that even JSN
- 9:13pointed out just how impressed he was from a receiver's standpoint as he
- 9:18was able to, you know, secure ball and then, think about ball, and then
- 9:22after ball, then put his feet down.
- 9:24It was great.
- 9:25Brandan: Gets his feet down, has, has the wherewithal to catch it and look
- 9:31down to make sure he gets his toes in.
- 9:32He got his toes well in.
- 9:34I think, you know, from our vantage point we couldn't see it all
- 9:37that clearly, but, we, yeah.
- 9:41But just an incredible catch.
- 9:43And I, the other takeaway, so there's the patience part of it with
- 9:48with Maye and not being able to accept being patient throughout the game.
- 9:55But there was this big concern about, that, shoot, that we
- 9:59had, right, going into this game, about our Seahawks secondary.
- 10:04And the fascinating thing was is that, yeah, okay, Josh Jobe had
- 10:10the, the pick to seal the game, but every one of the defensive backs
- 10:14got their hands on the football as- Yeah… part of an interception.
- 10:19'Cause Rodney Thomas, he was the one that tipped it into Nehemiah Pritchett's
- 10:23hands, then you had Julian Love who caught the second interception, and then
- 10:28Jobe with the, the game-sealing one.
- 10:31And how wild is it that one of the areas where we had our biggest concern
- 10:38that ended up being really the strength of what, led the defense in this
- 10:43game because yeah, whether it was the game plan of just making them
- 10:46check it down and, or, you know, whether you want to argue that once A.J.
- 10:52Brown went out, you know, who did they really have for receivers in that
- 10:56in, in that group for the Patriots?
- 10:58Adam: Mm-hmm.
- 10:59Brandan: maybe, maybe the game would've gone differently.
- 11:03But I look back at that game and say, yeah, they scored 10 points, but both
- 11:10of those, both the field goal was set up due to penalties, the touchdown was
- 11:15set up due to a penalty, and they scored all 10 of their points off of penalties.
- 11:20Adam: They really did.
- 11:21And honestly, the Seahawks were fairly dominant throughout this game.
- 11:25The penalties is really what helped the Patriots defense keep
- 11:28the offense under wraps.
- 11:30And then the defense really, as you pointed out, most of…
- 11:33Or really everything that they gave up of the whopping 10 points they gave up, were
- 11:38more or less a direct result of penalties.
- 11:40And, you know, it's interesting, you talk about, well, if A.J.
- 11:43Brown goes out, maybe that's a, a different result.
- 11:45And, look, I wanna put a pin in the idea of if something had happened
- 11:50the result would've been different, 'cause there's a narrative floating
- 11:52around this game that, I just- Sure… I, I can't understand at all.
- 11:56the…
- 11:57It, it drives me crazy.
- 11:58But to get back to the DBs because, number one, terrific game.
- 12:03Terrific game by that group back there.
- 12:04Julian Love, like he took Rodney Thomas, who hasn't played one regular
- 12:09season snap for the Seattle Seahawks, and as his running mate back there
- 12:14in the safety position, had him on point communicating and had everybody
- 12:19on a rope back there with the DBs.
- 12:22And Nehemiah Pritchett, been in the system a few years now, and y- you know, he
- 12:27has been improving as he's been here.
- 12:29And we saw him make a couple plays last year, not get a lot of playtime
- 12:33but gets out there as, you know, the primary outside corner opposite of
- 12:37Job, i- allowing Spoon to play in the slot, which was big because then
- 12:41Spoon could do his Spoon blitzes, which Josh McDaniels is still confused
- 12:45by, which is fricking hilarious.
- 12:47but look, as great as the secondary played, and they did, and I think it's
- 12:53awesome that John Schneider is able to go out and find these guys, and then
- 13:00Mike takes these veterans and puts them in a system and they get high
- 13:05level of play, and they don't have to go out and trade with the Chiefs and
- 13:08then spend a zillion dollars on a, a corner, and then go out and sign the
- 13:12Chief's other corner and spend a zillion dollars on him to try to like repair
- 13:16y- this massive hole on your roster.
- 13:19We don't have to do that because we have John Schneider and Mike Mc-
- 13:22Mike Macdonald, and it's awesome, man.
- 13:24I, I'm just so impressed.
- 13:26But as well as they played, Brandan, I really feel like it's the front
- 13:29four that really took care of business, in a way that allowed
- 13:35the secondary to feast because- Mm
- 13:37they made Maye jittery.
- 13:38And the second- Right… he wasn't just checking it down and just hitting these
- 13:41quick, throws and getting the ball out of his hand, all of a sudden we're
- 13:45thrown into team meetings and it's over.
- 13:47Brandan: Yeah.
- 13:47And really, it, it was a guy…
- 13:49You, you watch back the film and Byron Murphy is all over the place
- 13:55and Leonard Williams is- Yeah
- 13:56contributing.
- 13:57And, Uchenna Nwosu, holy smokes, that dude, I- Dude… were there
- 14:01two of him on the field in that game?
- 14:03Because there were some plays where, he…
- 14:06I, I swear he, I saw him in one spot and then he showed up in another.
- 14:09Adam: Yeah, man.
- 14:10really impressive game out of Nwosu.
- 14:13one of the more dominant performance I've seen out of him.
- 14:16Not that he hasn't had great performances, but that was a guy that really just jumped
- 14:21off the page with everything that he did.
- 14:24And e- even though, like, some of them didn't show up in the stats s- sheet
- 14:27like when Clinton and I did Three and Three Out earlier this week, and if
- 14:30you guys haven't checked that out, go check it out because it's dope.
- 14:32Clinton did an awesome job.
- 14:34Chenna had this amazing play on an outside run where he was able to
- 14:39stop the tight end from crossing his face and tried to pin him inside and in
- 14:43keeping the edge, and then getting to the back and really making it a difficult
- 14:47run for the Patriots and causing a TFL.
- 14:50And those are the things that we're talking about.
- 14:51That's the championship pedigree.
- 14:53That's the resilience.
- 14:54That's the type of effort that you put in when you know that Drew Lock has
- 14:57just come into the game, and he hasn't started a game in forever, and it wasn't
- 15:01the game plan, and he didn't have any reps, so we gotta give him support.
- 15:05And Chenna and crew, they brought it in spades, man.
- 15:08Brandan: He had another TFL on a pass play where he got there
- 15:13as the ball was getting there.
- 15:16And man, i- it was almost another Super Bowl style moment to where if
- 15:21he would've been there, like, a third of a second faster- Yeah… it- that
- 15:26ball probably gets tipped up in the air, and then who knows what happens.
- 15:29Adam: Who knows what happens.
- 15:30But big day by the defense.
- 15:32They were the one unit on the field out of all of the
- 15:37you know, Patriots or Seahawks.
- 15:39They were the most dominant unit by far, and they controlled
- 15:42the game start to finish.
- 15:43Looked a lot like another game I watched, semi-recently.
- 15:47Which one was that?
- 15:48Oh yeah, the [catfish] Super Bowl.
- 15:49Yeah.
- 15:51Brandan: Yeah.
- 15:51That, that did feel like a defense dominant performance.
- 15:55So it's, it, it's good, especially, Adam, in a week where you saw so many offensive
- 16:02points scored throughout the league-
- 16:04Adam: Man
- 16:05… Brandan: that-
- 16:05Adam: Wild
- 16:06Brandan: right… that our defense came to play in week one, and, yeah
- 16:10it, it, it was very cool to see.
- 16:13And it really, it, it, it was only really because of the defense that allowed
- 16:19so many of our players on offense to, to show up w- when they needed to be there.
- 16:24Adam: Had to work their way into the game, right?
- 16:26Yeah.
- 16:27And they surely did.
- 16:28It looked a lot different from the first half to the second half.
- 16:31Part of that is offensive coordinator Brian Fleury, who we'll get to
- 16:34but the majority of that, to me, Brandan, comes to this man right
- 16:39here, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, man.
- 16:41Huge night.
- 16:42Eight receptions on 11 targets, 122 yards and a touchdown.
- 16:46And the touchdown, that wasn't like Drew threw a miracle ball into the end z-
- 16:51like, and just put it right there, and it was easy-peasy for JSN and all that.
- 16:55No, no.
- 16:56Heavy lifting on that play, that was Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
- 16:59[Broadcast call]: Fake.
- 17:00Drew looks.
- 17:01Drew throws.
- 17:01Ball is caught.
- 17:02Guess who?
- 17:03JSN breaks a tackle.
- 17:0330, 20, five, 20, in for the goal.
- 17:04He is touchdown!
- 17:09Seahawks, J-M-
- 17:17Runs right through the heart of the Patriot defense and he lances
- 17:21their heart with what JSN does best.
- 17:25He breaks away for a big six points and the Seahawks are a
- 17:29point away from tying this one up.
- 17:33Brandan: I love the crowd pop in that, as, as JSN catches the pass, because i- i- the
- 17:39crowd was cheering because we knew we had the first down on a fourth and one play
- 17:43and that it was a, a fake and the, the pass and, and then you could just…
- 17:48Y- you could hear and feel it build as he was outrunning and dodging and
- 17:53juking, his way to the end zone.
- 17:56Adam: Oh, man.
- 17:57It was a work of art.
- 17:58And you feel like in any given game, that snowball is gonna just
- 18:04start rolling for JSN and there's nothing you can do about it.
- 18:07I, I was listening to Brock and Salk, I think last week or so
- 18:12and they were doing this game where they were trying to use, like
- 18:14one word to describe each player.
- 18:16And one of their listeners had texted into the show, and for JSN
- 18:20they used the word inevitable.
- 18:22And boy, that just rung, that just struck a chord with me.
- 18:25Yeah.
- 18:26And it really is.
- 18:27JSN is freaking inevitable.
- 18:29Sam Darnold goes out with butt stuff, and all of a sudden Drew Lock comes in and i-
- 18:35you know, is feeling his way through the game, and you need a big play, and JSN
- 18:39says, "You know, hold my beer, watch this.
- 18:41good luck."
- 18:43And he just weaves his way so fluidly through everybody.
- 18:46The speed is so sneaky.
- 18:48The routes are, like…
- 18:50Again, going back to the Hard Knocks thing, where he, you know, is kinda
- 18:54you know, springing out from every direction at the stem of his route.
- 18:58The, the routes are just impeccable.
- 19:00Look, JSN, absolutely inevitable, and we saw it here in the opener.
- 19:06It was awesome.
- 19:06Brandan: Yeah.
- 19:07Eight receptions on 11 targets, 122 yards, 15 yards average, and the touchdown.
- 19:14Just a incredible game by JSN.
- 19:17And yeah, it doesn't matter, who's under center apparently, whether it
- 19:22is Sam Darnold or our dude Drew Lock.
- 19:25And we, we have finally…
- 19:27You said he's out with butt stuff.
- 19:29we- I know
- 19:31I guess we can laugh about it now.
- 19:32Adam, is there a quarterback in the league that needs to be
- 19:36humbled any more than Sam Darnold?
- 19:38Like, how does, how do these things keep happening to Sam?
- 19:41Like, he comes into the league, he gets mono, and then he- Oh, God.
- 19:45Yeah… so he's the mono guy.
- 19:47Yeah.
- 19:47And then he's, goes through with the Jets and, and then, you know, he wins-
- 19:53Adam: Seeing ghosts and, like
- 19:55Brandan: all that, right?
- 19:55Yeah, the seeing ghosts thing.
- 19:56And then he wins a Super Bowl, and then he's on Hard Knocks and his ring
- 20:00falls out of the box that it's in, and everybody's- Yeah… "Oh, Sam Darnold
- 20:04can't even hold onto his Super Bowl ring."
- 20:06And then in week one, four plays in, the dude, sounds
- 20:11like he has a hip injury, and now it's a, a ligament in his butt.
- 20:16And now- Yeah That now he has this new narrative that he has to deal with
- 20:21Adam: I feel so bad for Sam.
- 20:23I do.
- 20:24Like, of all the types of injuries, you know what I mean?
- 20:26Like, yeah, why, why are you out?
- 20:28Ass.
- 20:29Like, that, that's why, man.
- 20:31Like
- 20:32Brandan: that's
- 20:32Adam: it.
- 20:32My butt hurts.
- 20:32Yeah.
- 20:33And, we don't know too much about it either, which is interesting, so, like, we
- 20:38all have to speculate on Sam's butt stuff.
- 20:40Like-… this is so embarrassing and, like, there's nothing he can do about it.
- 20:44And look, we've got a few different reports, Brandan.
- 20:47I'm curious to see which ones you're leaning towards, which ones you
- 20:50think are probably more correct.
- 20:52Well- Because it depends on who you're listening to, to a degree
- 20:54… Brandan: well, the, and that was the p- the interesting part of it.
- 20:57You had a statement that came out that said, oh, it could be five, six
- 21:02weeks, and then there was other, reporters sp- saying that, oh, it's only
- 21:07gonna be a week or two, to where the Seahawks, they ended up putting out a
- 21:11statement that said, y- that's a unique injury, and I guess they had five or
- 21:17six different opinions on it, or four.
- 21:19It, it was a number of second opinions that they went out to get just trying to
- 21:24get a timeline because, I guess because it's such a unique injury that they, they
- 21:29don't know really how to plan around it.
- 21:32And then it generated all these reports to where then they said, y- you know
- 21:36it's going to be two or three weeks.
- 21:39And it, it seems like that's where it's kind of settled, is that…
- 21:43'Cause early on there were reports like, well, and even Mike was saying, "Well
- 21:48he's gonna miss the Cardinals game."
- 21:50And- Yeah… then, you heard some people saying, "Well, he could be
- 21:55back, gosh, there's, you know, 17 days in between the week one and then the
- 22:00Commanders game on the road, so he might be able to make it back from that."
- 22:05And then there were- Others saying that it was such a unique injury that it's
- 22:09gonna take up to six weeks, and I think that's probably just the window, right?
- 22:14The, it's a three to six week window, and so if you're an optimist, then may-
- 22:19hope- hopefully the Commanders game.
- 22:21Adam: Yeah, and, you know, three to six week window, maybe.
- 22:25Like, I mean, even the team is like, you know, timetable is uncertain
- 22:28and it is such a unique injury.
- 22:32look, I, I mean I hurt my butt, and, so I had to
- 22:36shoot my couch over it, right?
- 22:37So like-… I can relate.
- 22:39so I, I get it.
- 22:41but what a weird fluky thing.
- 22:44Thank goodness it seems to be something that, like, definitely not season ending
- 22:49or anything like that, but then, you know, you just went through the schedule, right?
- 22:53Cards, Commanders, Chargers.
- 22:56Apparently we only play C teams.
- 22:57But, at the end of the day, after week one, Brandan, it feels
- 23:02like Cards might be the hardest game on that stretch of schedule there.
- 23:05Brandan: Oh my gosh, and we- we'll get to the preview with the
- 23:09Cardinals, later in the show.
- 23:12But yeah, a, a little bit surprising that they're the ones that
- 23:15come out against the Chargers.
- 23:16Why, why can't they just be, do Cardinals things and make us feel
- 23:20better- Well-… about week two?
- 23:22But I do feel good about Drew Lock, and I, I have to expect that with a week
- 23:31of preparation and knowing he's gonna be the guy, and getting over some of
- 23:36the penalty issues and, just that unfamiliarity and, and having to deal
- 23:42with that resilience factor that was unexpected through week one, that the
- 23:49preparation is gonna help a guy like Lock.
- 23:51And, he didn't have a terrible game.
- 23:54Had s- over 70% completion percentage.
- 23:57Didn't have a lot of air yards though, which is an…
- 24:01You would expect for Drew, like he's a guy- I know… that likes to
- 24:04push the ball down the field, right?
- 24:05So- Yeah… you, maybe more of that, but 187 yards, gets a lot
- 24:11of, yak from the JSN touchdown.
- 24:14And…
- 24:16But really, just the feeling throughout the game, it felt like he was getting
- 24:21settled in in the fourth quarter, and that even if the Patriots, say
- 24:25had pushed it to overtime, I, I felt confident that we were going to…
- 24:30It just, it seemed like we had a, a confident Drew Lock in the fourth quarter.
- 24:35Adam: Yeah, I think it all started to slow back down for him.
- 24:38It only took him three quarters because he has so much experience in the league
- 24:42for the game to slow back down for him.
- 24:44Look, I mean, when you haven't started a football game in forever, like
- 24:48it's, it's really difficult to get kind of caught up to the speed of the
- 24:52game the second you touch the field.
- 24:54And in fact, I can't imagine too many backup quarterbacks when they go into
- 24:58week one of the season are thinking, especially when their starter has
- 25:02been like healthy all off season- Yeah
- 25:04and all of that, like that they have any chance of s- Like I guarantee Drew
- 25:08hadn't thought like two seconds about…
- 25:10Well, that's not true.
- 25:11I mean, I'm sure he's prepared and all of that.
- 25:13Yeah.
- 25:13But he wasn't expecting to go into this game, especially that
- 25:16early after the first drive.
- 25:18And I think one of the reasons why it seemed to kind of pick up for him in the
- 25:22second half is you heard him talk about getting to the locker room at halftime
- 25:27and sitting down with Coach Fleury and really mapping out their, you know
- 25:31scripted plays to start, the things that they were gonna do and change and all
- 25:35of that, and it made a big difference.
- 25:37Now, obviously operations-wise, it wasn't a very clean game.
- 25:41I mean, the penalties were horrible.
- 25:43I think there were seven pre-snap penalties throughout this game.
- 25:46That is God awful.
- 25:47That is- Yeah… God awful.
- 25:48Now, that's something that's highly correctable, so you have a first time
- 25:52play caller, a backup that had to go in like in a really unusual circumstance
- 25:57right out of the gate, and, you know, it- you're starting on a
- 26:02Wednesday too, which is, weird.
- 26:04Like I'm not surprised that the offense had some operational issues early on.
- 26:11I really expect that to be cleaned up for the next game.
- 26:14And I give Drew kind of like a, a solid B for this game.
- 26:18And you talked about the air yards, Brandan, and I don't give a crap about
- 26:22the air yards because Drew Lock played I think one of his more professional
- 26:26games I've seen him play- Yeah
- 26:28where he was the opposite of Drake Maye.
- 26:31He didn't lose his patience.
- 26:33He took what was there.
- 26:34He dinked and dunked.
- 26:34It's as if he sat behind Sam Darnold for a year, watched him win a Super
- 26:38Bowl and went, "Oh, geez Louise, like I guess I don't have to do everything.
- 26:43I've got a kickass team around me.
- 26:44Maybe I'll just be a point guard and distribute the ball, do what I can do, and
- 26:48then when I need to make a big throw, I'll throw a crazy corner out to Cooper Kupp
- 26:52and he'll come down and make a crazy one hand catch, and off to the races we go."
- 26:56And that's exactly what Drew did.
- 26:58He had a couple big boy throws in this game, but a lot of very responsible
- 27:02throws, and I think that's what was impressive and why I feel comfortable
- 27:05going into not just week two, but week three or week four, however long it is
- 27:09for, for Sam to heal the butt, you know?
- 27:13Brandan: I'm glad you brought up Cooper Kupp and that one-handed catch- Yeah
- 27:16because we got the auto- audio for it Yeah
- 27:18Adam: let's go.
- 27:18Let's go.
- 27:19[Broadcast call]: Coverage on the near side.
- 27:21Blitz is coming.
- 27:22Lock is gonna let it fly.
- 27:23Got his man.
- 27:24Cooper Kupp.
- 27:27Holy catfish.
- 27:29I need to mention him more, 'cause when I do, he makes a catch.
- 27:32A one-hander from 26, make it 24.
- 27:37What a catch by the former Super Bowl MVP, and he just bailed out this Seahawks
- 27:46offense with a huge reception down to the Patriots 13-yard line, first and 10
- 27:53Brandan: DJ Nichols in chat saying, "Locke managed the game
- 27:56cold, couldn't ask for more.
- 27:58Now he has a week and a half with the ones to be ready for the Cards."
- 28:02And I, I…
- 28:03The only reason I bring up the air yards component, Adam, was
- 28:07that- Yeah… it, it just that that was a, a factor in the game.
- 28:11He just, he didn't push the ball- Mm-hmm… down the field a lot
- 28:14and it, it worked out well for us.
- 28:16It would've worked out really well if maybe we didn't commit penalties
- 28:21down near the red zone to where it, it pushed us out of…
- 28:26He had one touchdown where he hit Kupp in the back of the end zone.
- 28:30That comes back.
- 28:31He gets down to the two-yard line, and then whether or not it was just
- 28:35getting the play call in on time to where, they end up taking the
- 28:38delay of game and going backward.
- 28:40And I guess that was my biggest problem with this game, is that I felt like w-
- 28:49our Seahawks left points out on the field.
- 28:51Adam: Lots of them.
- 28:52Brandan: Yeah.
- 28:52Lots of them.
- 28:53Adam: No, no doubt about it.
- 28:54And while frustrating in the moment as we were up in the stands there
- 28:58Brandan, also that same thing is extra encouraging going forward.
- 29:04Like, we, we don't look at the offense throwing up 13 points and being like
- 29:07"Oh my God, Brian Flores a disaster and, we, we won't have any chance without
- 29:13Kubiak," because that wasn't the case.
- 29:15Like, the style of the offense and how we played and all of that was
- 29:19very similar, and it looked like that there's a lot of room to grow.
- 29:24you know, and like I said, Drew had some huge shows.
- 29:26I mean, there was that big inbreaker to…
- 29:29Was it JSN?
- 29:30I think it was JSN.
- 29:31Yeah.
- 29:31Yep.
- 29:31Yep, it
- 29:31Brandan: was JSN.
- 29:32Adam: Yep, and then he had a, you know, a quick out that he
- 29:35had to hit, you know, feet all discombobulated because, the blitz
- 29:40was coming, you know, right at him.
- 29:42Got it out to him, did a nice job there, and then that throw
- 29:44to Kupp, pretty sweet.
- 29:47He did have a, I wanna say it was the same drive that he hit Kupp on
- 29:51I think it was maybe the next play.
- 29:53Was that where he tried to throw a fade to JSN?
- 29:57Was that that same drive?
- 29:59Brandan: That could've been.
- 29:59Was that that same drive, I'm not sure.
- 30:00And because that was the one they settled for the field goal
- 30:02they got their first points.
- 30:03Adam: Yeah.
- 30:04And, man, I, I couldn't believe it.
- 30:07He missed a wide open Shaheed for a touchdown that was on
- 30:10a slant underneath of it.
- 30:11Like-
- 30:11Brandan: Yeah
- 30:12… Adam: his eyes are even that way, you know?
- 30:14And it's like, man, if you can not throw a fade and get to the slant
- 30:18then, you know, better for it.
- 30:21But here's the thing, is that even with missing that, having some nice
- 30:24big boy throws, being very professional throughout the game, I tell you what-
- 30:29There is no way in hell I wanna see him do something stupid like bring
- 30:33in, you know, Handsome Jimmy or…
- 30:36Like, 'cause that was one of the narratives that you heard out
- 30:38there, like, "Oh, they're gonna need to bring in a quarterback."
- 30:40hell no.
- 30:41Brandan: Why?
- 30:42Adam: No, thank you.
- 30:42Yeah.
- 30:43Brandan: Why, why would you go through all of the off-season of having a, a
- 30:48quarterback like Lock who went out and showed why he, he should be the backup-
- 30:54Adam: Top
- 30:54Brandan: two backup… and why would you bring, why would you bring in
- 30:56somebody completely different to then be the, the, the guy ahead of Lock?
- 31:02That, that makes m- zero sense to me unless, unless- But he's done
- 31:06Adam: it before, Brandan
- 31:07… Brandan: unless there's, there, there, there's one scenario I
- 31:10could see playing out, Adam-
- 31:12Adam: Eh
- 31:12… Brandan: is we play the San Francisco 49ers and we brack- we bring back Russell
- 31:16Carrington Wilson to take down the Niners.
- 31:19Adam: That'd be fun.
- 31:20I mean, I didn't really get to see how his, debut in the booth was or
- 31:25on the halftime shows- I didn't
- 31:26Brandan: either
- 31:26Adam: and all
- 31:26Brandan: that.
- 31:26I just know he has the Niners number and I, I want that to continue.
- 31:29That's the- Yeah… that's my only thought process behind that.
- 31:31Cool.
- 31:31It's not gonna happen, but it, it would be fun.
- 31:34Adam: Here's the thing.
- 31:35If you, if you get into Sam's phone right now and you start looking through
- 31:39you know, 49ers, you won't find them.
- 31:41If you look under 69ers, Sam Darnold has their number there, too.
- 31:44Like, because he ate their lunch, you know, twice in a row here last season
- 31:51and barely lost the first game, off of other butt stuff, like with Abe
- 31:56Lucas's butt causing a fumble, I guess.
- 31:58So, I, I'm not too worried about Sam, when he does get back
- 32:02being able to, steal the heart out of the Niners once again.
- 32:07and also, too, like, this is why you pay a top-tier backup in Drew Lock.
- 32:12This is why you spend third round draft picks on developmental
- 32:15quarterbacks like Jalen Milroe, who flashed in the preseason, who give
- 32:19you a lot of confidence as him as the number two until Sam gets healthy.
- 32:24Brandan: All right.
- 32:24I do wanna talk a little more quarterback stuff, here as we get into the
- 32:28Cardinals, but one other guy I feel like we should talk about before
- 32:32moving on to the next part of the show, our running back, our rookie running
- 32:36back, Jadarian Price, 10 carries, 52 yards, has two receptions, and
- 32:42it felt like I wanted to see more.
- 32:46I wanted to see more.
- 32:48Adam: Patience, young man, patience.
- 32:50Like, look, I do too.
- 32:52We all wanna see more after watching, Jadarian's debut here.
- 32:57His ability to get to the edge and have that burst, like, I don't know what his
- 33:00long speed looks like yet in the league- Yeah… 'cause w- we haven't seen it.
- 33:04But that, going from, like, third to fourth gear to catch the edge
- 33:10and then we'll see what happens when he gets, into the open
- 33:13field and can kick it into overdrive.
- 33:15But that third to fourth gear, man, that burst is real.
- 33:19The vision is real.
- 33:20The lack of wasted steps on every one of his cutbacks, real.
- 33:25His penchant to try to get more north-south and hit the run as
- 33:33it's designed, that's real.
- 33:35That, that's a big difference between him and Canine.
- 33:39Canine's instinct is really to get outside at all times, and because he's
- 33:44the athlete he is, he can get away with that and be awesome doing that.
- 33:47But Jadarian's a different cat now.
- 33:49And I, I'm just stoked to see his growth throughout the year.
- 33:55And being a young guy, no pre-season stuff to, like, kinda get your feet
- 33:59wet and all that, I can see why they're easing him into this game
- 34:04and trying not to overload him.
- 34:05It makes sense.
- 34:06Brandan: And I thought it was easing in too, 'cause it, it just
- 34:10felt like they were easing him in.
- 34:12But then when I went back, the Seahawks only had 45 offensive snaps.
- 34:17Yeah.
- 34:18And Price was out there for at least 20 of them.
- 34:21So- Really, if the game plan was just to, to split carries, I don't…
- 34:27I, I can understand wanting to ease him in because here's a guy who, he wasn't the
- 34:33like, the workhorse back at Notre Dame.
- 34:36He was the guy behind Jeremiah Love.
- 34:38So he, he hasn't had that…
- 34:42He wasn't the guy to go out and give 20-plus carries to anyway.
- 34:46Yeah.
- 34:46And to go out and then do that.
- 34:48The only way I thought that they might do that is with the Sam
- 34:51Darnold injury, that they go, "Well, throw that plan out the window."
- 34:56And when we saw what he did on his first couple carries, hey, maybe we
- 34:59get to 25 carries for this guy, and I would've been okay with it after
- 35:03what I saw, but they did seem to have a plan and then stick to it.
- 35:07Adam: Yeah.
- 35:08And that shows the maturity of the coaching staff, and Mike Macdonald
- 35:13is a Super Bowl-winning coach being like, "Look, we have a plan.
- 35:16We know when we stick to our plan, it works out well."
- 35:18And the evidence is last year, they really did, much to our chagrin, I know I sat
- 35:24on this podcast and bitched and moaned for, like, three-quarters of a season
- 35:28about give K9 The Ball more and less Sharps, and it was that distribution of
- 35:34workload that allowed Kenneth Walker to be healthy going down the stretch and become
- 35:38Super Bowl MVP and lift the Lombardi.
- 35:40So, who am I to question that anymore?
- 35:43if they've got a plan for the backs, I'm here for it.
- 35:46I would be curious to see a little more of Manuel Wilson maybe as the other back-
- 35:52Brandan: Yeah
- 35:52… Adam: over Holani.
- 35:53I just, I know Holani's a great story and a great dude and all of
- 35:58that, but That's a lot of meh for me, like when he touches the football.
- 36:04Brandan: And he was, when you look at the charts, Holani was the only
- 36:08back in when it came to third down.
- 36:11So he was, he was gonna be the third down guy.
- 36:14That feels like where he fits in this offense right now.
- 36:18And yeah, if you're…
- 36:20I, I do wonder though, because you, you did hear a little bit about
- 36:26the offense being limited because with them only having 45 plays.
- 36:32Say they were able to keep some drives going and march the ball, I, I have
- 36:36to think that Price gets a few more carries, but yeah, we probably do get some
- 36:40Emmanuel Wis- Wilson carries in there too.
- 36:43Adam: Yeah.
- 36:43Well, what's gonna be fun is that I do think that the world is gonna be their
- 36:47oyster, defensively and offensively speaking, as they go up against the
- 36:52Dirty Birds in the desert here.
- 36:55And I'm looking forward to that match up as well.
- 36:57But some really positive stuff out of Price's debut, and some stuff that should
- 37:03have you fired up because that's what an NF- like a top flight NFL caliber running
- 37:09back looks like in terms of decisiveness, in terms of technique, in terms of
- 37:14speed, in terms of power, in terms of falling forward every single play.
- 37:19And I can't wait to see him out rush his running back mate from Notre Dame, Mr.
- 37:24Jeremiah Love next.
- 37:25Brandan: I, I know you're excited to get there, and I am too.
- 37:28I am.
- 37:28You did bring up, though, that, something that you…
- 37:31I, I don't know if you were looking to mention it- Yes… in the
- 37:33second half of the show- No… or if you wanted to mention it now.
- 37:36Adam: We can do it now because I just don't understand this for the life of me.
- 37:39I heard this phrase a billion times over the last week here.
- 37:43"Well, you know, if Doubs just doesn't drop the ball there, then Drake
- 37:46Maye doesn't throw an interception."
- 37:49Brandan: Oh.
- 37:49What?
- 37:50Oh, it was the Doubs drop that, that changed this entire game?
- 37:54Adam: How?
- 37:54How, how on God's green earth…
- 37:55Like, how does that make it so that the next play, like how does
- 37:59that guarantee the next play that he doesn't throw a boneheaded interception?
- 38:02Like, or even two plays after that.
- 38:04Like, how, how does Doubs dropping the ball there affect future stupid
- 38:08Drake Maye throwing more picks?
- 38:10Like, that's, that doesn't make sense in any way.
- 38:14Brandan: No.
- 38:16W- w- where does that come from?
- 38:17That, that, that…
- 38:18Of, of all the things that I think could have happened differently in the
- 38:22game, that is probably the low- one of the lowest on the list for the, the
- 38:29Patriots, because I would think, you know, gosh, if, i- if, if Maye just
- 38:34throws it on time, on that final play, or if, I don't know, if the…
- 38:42Guess the, the throw to Doubs, that wasn't the greatest either
- 38:45but- Yeah, there's just a lot of different places that I, I think of.
- 38:50You know, if, Gonzalez comes up with an interception in, in one of those-
- 38:56Adam: Mm-hmm
- 38:56… Brandan: on the one pass that he got his hands on.
- 38:59If, yeah, i- if they don't settle, end up settling for field
- 39:06goals in a couple situations.
- 39:07I don't know.
- 39:08I, I look at our Seahawks- I just-… and I, I have- Yeah… way more what if
- 39:11scenarios than I do for the Patriots.
- 39:13Adam: Yeah, exactly.
- 39:14I just can't understand how if Doubs catches that ball, that somehow affects
- 39:18the way that Drake Maye is throwing the football on subsequent plays.
- 39:22Like, I heard Chris Simms say this.
- 39:23I heard a bunch of dudes, who are smart dudes, "Oh, if Doubs just
- 39:26catches the ball there, then Drake Maye doesn't throw an interception later."
- 39:30So [catfish] stupid.
- 39:31Like, I don't…
- 39:32Like, what Sliding Doors episode is this?
- 39:34Did I miss, like, an episode of Inception or something, or movie Inception?
- 39:37I don't know, man.
- 39:38Doesn't make any sense.
- 39:40It bothers…
- 39:40It's, it's been under my skin all week, dude.
- 39:43Like, just can't stand it.
- 39:44Brandan: It's, it's bothering me now to the…
- 39:46I…
- 39:47When, when Doubs dropped that, that was-
- 39:50Adam: Like, third quarter?
- 39:52Brandan: I, I thought it was fourth quarter.
- 39:54I'm trying to- Maybe
- 39:54Adam: it was fourth quarter
- 39:55… Brandan: I, I'm trying to, to now find-
- 39:58Adam: In the sequencing of plays there.
- 40:00Yeah.
- 40:00And then I've also heard, Brandan, as you're looking that up, other people
- 40:03being like, "Well, if Doubs just catches that ball, they win the football game."
- 40:06What?
- 40:07There's a crap ton of football to be played left.
- 40:09you know, like, I just- I don't know, man.
- 40:12May- maybe, maybe it's just the East Coast biasers out there
- 40:16like, looking for excuses and- Yeah
- 40:18trying to, you know, make excuses for the sche- Drake, the Schedule Maye.
- 40:22Like, whatever it is, I don't know.
- 40:24Brandan: Okay.
- 40:25It, it's because it was fourth quarter, it was second and 14, and
- 40:31Doubs, if, if he would've caught that, then it would've been a first down.
- 40:36Adam: I'll, I'll concede that.
- 40:38If Romeo Doubs catches the ball, it would've been a first down.
- 40:41That, that would be, something that I could get with, yeah.
- 40:44Brandan: But that would've only still been at, like, the New England 40 or 45.
- 40:49Yeah.
- 40:49Let's say, let's give him the 45, 'cause he did have some space around him.
- 40:52The dude was wide open.
- 40:54Like, that was a ridiculous drop.
- 40:55Yeah.
- 40:55I would be, I, I would be very upset if I had Doubs on my team
- 41:01and he, he made a drop like…
- 41:03It was reminiscent of the Dolphins game in the opener where, who was the
- 41:08dude that, he was just, like, wide open and it hit his hands for a, a touchdown.
- 41:12It just dropped.
- 41:13You
- 41:13Adam: watched Dolphins football already this year?
- 41:15Brandan: No, that was…
- 41:16I'm talking about the opener between the Seahawks and Dolphins
- 41:19like five or six years ago.
- 41:20Adam: Oh, God, that's too many years for me to remember.
- 41:23I have no idea, man.
- 41:23Yeah.
- 41:24Brandan: But, it, so that Doubs drop, then the next
- 41:29pass was the Julian Love play.
- 41:31So I guess the thought process is that Maye doesn't try and hit the first down
- 41:37on a third and 14 because it's first down.
- 41:41But even if they get the first down there, there's other…
- 41:44there're gonna be other third downs on that drive.
- 41:47Adam: There's gonna be other opportunities for boneheaded Drake
- 41:49Maye to, like, lose his patience and throw it into the, you know
- 41:53loaded secondary, you know?
- 41:54Like-
- 41:55Brandan: Yeah, he already lost his patience once on
- 41:57the Pritchett interception.
- 41:58Yeah.
- 41:59Adam: Yeah.
- 41:59So what happened on all the other interceptions?
- 42:01Like, I mean, did somebody drop it before those interceptions
- 42:04that caused him to throw…
- 42:05I just, I, it, I don't know.
- 42:07Whatever.
- 42:07Brandan: He had a great drive going, that final drive.
- 42:09I thought that they were gonna settle for a field goal.
- 42:11Adam: Yeah.
- 42:12Yep.
- 42:13I thought so too.
- 42:14But, nope, they settled for an L, and that was awesome.
- 42:18Brandan: Well, another team that we hope is gonna be settling for an L is the
- 42:22stupid Arizona Cardinals and their opening game on their home field for the 26th
- 42:28season, and it is going to be the matchup of the two Notre Dame running backs, Adam.
- 42:34Adam: Yeah, it is.
- 42:34In…
- 42:35There's a lot of interesting matchups in this game.
- 42:37we're gonna see L.J.
- 42:38Collier again.
- 42:40Like, all sorts of, interesting stuff.
- 42:41That's
- 42:41Brandan: where you go first, huh?
- 42:42That, that's the, that's the one guy that you're most interested on the, the just-
- 42:45Adam: Dude, he actually had a TFL against the Chargers.
- 42:47Like, I was like, wow, that, that's impressive.
- 42:50But- I, I was actually kind of impressed with the Cardinals' effort week one.
- 42:55Now, is it just week one weirdness and they don't l- you know, win another game
- 42:59and they're competing for the number one pick here by the end of the year?
- 43:03Or was kind of their steady professionalism, like, is, is
- 43:09that gonna show up again when the Seahawks come to town?
- 43:13Brandan: I think that, yeah, it was…
- 43:17I guess that was the biggest takeaway in their matchup with the Chargers, is
- 43:21that they just seemed steady and prepared for the game in a way that I was not
- 43:30expecting an Arizona Cardinals team- Right
- 43:32to look in week one on the road, in the first game of a head coach
- 43:38with a new team, going up against a veteran coach in Jim Harbaugh.
- 43:44And they go out, and they were clearly the best team on the field that day.
- 43:51Adam: Yeah.
- 43:51It was shocking.
- 43:52And I think maybe the thing that shocked me the most is that I understand the
- 43:56Chargers lost their starting center, in the off-season, but they get their
- 44:00tackles back, and their offensive line is a lot healthier than it was last year.
- 44:04And you know how Harbaugh likes to talk about his offensive linemans as being
- 44:10weapons, and they got whipped up front.
- 44:13Like, Cardinals were doing work up there.
- 44:16And, you know, and we're talking with, with dudes that…
- 44:20I mean, none of these make me weak in the knees when I'm looking at it, you know?
- 44:24I mean, Walter Nolan was their first-round pick from last year, injured and all
- 44:27that for the majority of the year.
- 44:29Mm-hmm.
- 44:29Josh Sweat got the big money last year, and, like, he's aight.
- 44:32Like, that's fine.
- 44:34Roy Lopez as their starting left defensive tackle.
- 44:38Do you know who Roy Lopez is?
- 44:39I don't.
- 44:40Was he on a sitcom in the '90s, maybe?
- 44:42Brandan: Yeah.
- 44:43I, I think- Yeah… that was a different Lopez.
- 44:45Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:46He
- 44:46Brandan: he might be- Maybe Mario… he might be brothers with George.
- 44:49Adam: Maybe this is Mario's, really young
- 44:53young, younger brother, you know?
- 44:55Brandan: Yeah
- 44:55Adam: could be.
- 44:55Like, mom had a, an oopsie at the age of 50 or something.
- 44:58But, yeah, man, I…
- 45:00You look at the, the overall roster of the Cardinals on defense in, especially
- 45:07up front, and you're going, how in the world did they get the type of pressure
- 45:11that they did against this Chargers team?
- 45:13With, you know, all of the hullabaloo about, Mike McDaniel being there
- 45:19as the offensive coordinator, so.
- 45:21Brandan: Yeah.
- 45:21I, I thought- That was interesting… the Chargers were gonna score
- 45:23a billion points now that they have Mike McDaniel as their OC.
- 45:28Adam: Right.
- 45:28But they didn't.
- 45:29No.
- 45:29They struggled all game long.
- 45:31they picked off Herbert.
- 45:33you know, Wingard had that nice pick.
- 45:36You, you'd brought that up to, to me when we were speaking off air.
- 45:39That was a quick pick.
- 45:39Brandan: Wingard had a nice hit, too.
- 45:41I, I think that was the thing that impressed me the most about
- 45:44the Cardinals, is that generally the dude who, that impresses me
- 45:48in the secondary is Budda Baker.
- 45:50And I saw, I, I think I saw a nice play from Max Melton.
- 45:55I think- Yeah… there may have even been a Will Johnson play
- 45:58in there, and then Wingard had the, the INT and some big hits.
- 46:01So I, I think that was- Now going into this game against the Cardinals, I, I
- 46:09am wondering how Drew Lock with JSN…
- 46:13Now, you brought up JSN being inevitable.
- 46:17I, I have to think that as impressed as I was with the Cardinals'
- 46:21secondary, I, I don't, I still don't see anybody who's stopping JSN.
- 46:26Adam: No.
- 46:26Max Melton hurt his ankle too in that game.
- 46:28We'll see.
- 46:29I mean, he came back to the game, so we'll see how that kind of tracks throughout
- 46:32the, the rest of, the week here.
- 46:35But yeah, man, secondary outside of, of Baker, I mean, again, you know, Max
- 46:41Melton and Denzel Burke, I mean, sure.
- 46:44okay.
- 46:45Those are guys that you could put out there if that was something that you
- 46:49Brandan: wanted to do.
- 46:49I mean, they're gonna have to.
- 46:50Those are their best dudes.
- 46:51Adam: Yeah.
- 46:51And look, as poorly as the Chargers offensive line performed, I have
- 46:58a feeling that the Seahawks offensive line is not gonna have the same sort
- 47:02of fits that the Chargers did there.
- 47:06I really do feel like they can have their way with this
- 47:08defense for the most part.
- 47:10I, I predict something i- in the neighborhood of, like, 24-ish plus
- 47:15points scored for the offense, and that'll be far more than needed.
- 47:18and we put the Cards back down in the basement with the Rams where they belong.
- 47:24Brandan: 'Cause that's the thing.
- 47:25Jacoby Brissett, he's, he's not gonna look as good against the Seahawks
- 47:31defense as he did the Chargers defense.
- 47:34Adam: No, definitely not.
- 47:36And that was one of the better games I've seen Brissett play.
- 47:38But don't get it twisted, he's a, he's a, he's a professional quarterback
- 47:43that c- you can pencil him in at, like, 27th best quarterback in the league.
- 47:47And that's not like throwing shade at Jacoby Brissett, right?
- 47:50Like, there's only 26 other guys that can do it better than him.
- 47:53And-
- 47:53Brandan: Yeah
- 47:55… Adam: I, I thought he played pretty well.
- 47:56I, I seen in the comments here Marlon, talking about Will Johnson at corner.
- 48:03We'll see.
- 48:03I, I, I know that he had the big injury in college, came back last year and, and
- 48:08had some moments, but, you know, not really one of those athletic type corners.
- 48:13And if you're not one of those guys, good luck keeping up
- 48:18with the likes of Rasheed Shaheed.
- 48:20Good luck keeping up with JSN.
- 48:21Like- Yeah.
- 48:22Brandan: Will Campbell could cover Cooper Kupp well.
- 48:25th- that's, that's fine.
- 48:28But-
- 48:28Adam: Yeah, Will Dodson?
- 48:29Yeah.
- 48:29Brandan: Yeah.
- 48:30but with JSN, with Shaheed, I, I guess the thing- Maybe we'll
- 48:35Adam: see a Horton too, for
- 48:36Brandan: all we know Maybe.
- 48:37Maybe we'll yeah, finally see some Horton.
- 48:39I…
- 48:42On the offensive side, and this was the thing that I, I remembered
- 48:47Trey McBride's very good.
- 48:50He's like-
- 48:51Adam: Yeah, Trey McBride is still Trey McBride.
- 48:53He, he was kicking ass and taking names.
- 48:54Brandan: I, I wish w- you know, s- speaking of guys who I wish we'd have
- 48:57back, I would like to have Nick Emmanwori for, on the defensive side of the ball
- 49:03with, going up against Trey McBride.
- 49:05Adam: I mean, it could be in range.
- 49:06Mike has been super cagey about the injuries.
- 49:09He's having a good time being cagey about the injuries, with the big
- 49:13smiles every time, it's brought up.
- 49:16Charlie the unicorn here, just, dropped a comment
- 49:19that is-… absolute blasphemy and I will not stand for it.
- 49:22Brissette better than Bo Nix.
- 49:24look- He
- 49:25Brandan: had a better week one than Bo Nix
- 49:27Adam: That's fair.
- 49:28Bo has had a slow start to every single one of his NFL seasons, to this point.
- 49:32So that's just on track, a guy that should've been in the Super Bowl last
- 49:36year, but, his ankle betrayed him.
- 49:38Jacoby Brissette could never have that said about him, so.
- 49:42Brandan: Well, the other thing that Jacoby Brissette enjoyed in
- 49:46week one against the Chargers was a running game, that with Tyler Allgeier
- 49:51Jeremiah Love, the, the Seahawks are gonna be loading up to stop the run.
- 49:58And- As…
- 49:58Adam: Yeah
- 49:59… Brandan: we, we've seen them do that in the past, and succeed.
- 50:03Adam: Yeah.
- 50:04I think, I think their concentration will be on stopping the run.
- 50:08I think that's a better word for it- Sure… because they don't
- 50:10load up to stop the run for anybody.
- 50:12Like, you ain't, you ain't getting us out of nickel.
- 50:14like, this is what we're doing and they're
- 50:18Brandan: able to- I, I was speaking purely mentality wise.
- 50:20Adam: Yeah, exactly.
- 50:21Exactly.
- 50:21Concentration wise, right?
- 50:23Yeah.
- 50:23Yeah.
- 50:23And that makes all the sense.
- 50:24Yeah, that's where your focus is gonna be.
- 50:26The second focus is gonna be on Trey McBride.
- 50:29and then, and then…
- 50:34Brandan: I thought Michael Wilson- Who?
- 50:36… he always runs hard after he catches the ball
- 50:40Adam: I, I'll take your word on it because everybody keeps telling me Michael
- 50:43Wilson's good and I, I don't know how many times I've even seen him catch a football.
- 50:47speaking of guys who don't catch footballs, as a professional
- 50:50wide receiver, Marvin Harrison Jr I think only had one reception, or at
- 50:54least, throughout the game there was a point where he only had one.
- 50:57he's a non-factor still.
- 50:59He can't get on the same page with Kyler.
- 51:01He can't get on the same page with, Jacoby.
- 51:04bust?
- 51:05Like, are we getting into bust territory with him?
- 51:08I'm, I'm thinking maybe.
- 51:10Brandan: I'm not too worried about Harrison.
- 51:12I think the, the one matchup that I, I would be concerned about
- 51:18being a mismatch would be Michael Wilson on Nehemiah Pritchett.
- 51:23Adam: Wrong.
- 51:24I, I don't worry about that for two seconds.
- 51:26That guy is not a…
- 51:28Like, the way people talk about Michael Wilson is, like, one of the…
- 51:32It's like- He's
- 51:32Brandan: a better Romeo Doubs.
- 51:34Adam: Is he?
- 51:35Brandan: He doesn't drop that Doubs pass.
- 51:39Adam: Maybe.
- 51:40I mean, I don't know, man.
- 51:41I
- 51:42Brandan: see them- See, Nate shoots and Chad agrees with me.
- 51:43Wilson has some good hands.
- 51:45Adam: Well, that's great.
- 51:45but the, the rest of his game must stink if that's the case
- 51:49because the dude is, like, I can't even say delightfully average.
- 51:53Like, he's dead nuts average.
- 51:54Like, I don't, I don't see anything special about that guy, at all.
- 51:59I think you could put Cody White out there and have just
- 52:02as much success, if not more.
- 52:04Brandan: Ooh.
- 52:06Yokai Hawk saying T.
- 52:07Knight on McBride.
- 52:09maybe.
- 52:10Adam: I, I could probably see, like, a lot of, like, Spood and a linebacker
- 52:14bracketing things and stuff like that.
- 52:17Maybe they'll rotate a safety down late if they need to, to try to help
- 52:21things out with McBride at times.
- 52:23and also too, Brandan, I mean, you brought up the idea of, you know
- 52:27having some Nick in the box- Yeah… and we could see him in more in this game.
- 52:32Brandan: It's within range, and we're- that's one of the names we'll
- 52:35be watching when it comes to the injury report throughout this week.
- 52:38I know when we have our Saturday show, that's, that's o- one of
- 52:42the things that, we wanna see.
- 52:44KNTP, STP music.
- 52:46I wanna see Eman.
- 52:47I, I think that's, that's a guy on defense- Bro, I like
- 52:50Eman… w- we, we, we're all in.
- 52:52And we did see, I think maybe 14 snaps defensively out of the 70 or so of Tyrese
- 53:00Knight out there with the linebackers.
- 53:03I…
- 53:04He wasn't a factor to where I, in the way that I thought he was gonna be.
- 53:08But maybe going up against, this Cardinals offense where McBride is such
- 53:14a focal point of the offense, maybe they do go a little bit heavier if for some
- 53:18reason that, Nick isn't able to go.
- 53:22Adam: I feel like T.
- 53:23Knight would have a little bit better coverage skills than Drake Thomas.
- 53:25I mean, Drake's real, like, special trait is his ability to
- 53:31read and react so quickly and just pull the trigger on things.
- 53:35And, I think that's pretty, pretty awesome there.
- 53:39you know, kind of going back to the Cards defense for half a tick
- 53:43one of the things that popped off the screen was how many freaking
- 53:46battered balls did they have?
- 53:48Like, there's no way that's dupli- y- they could duplicate that for week two.
- 53:52But I feel like they had at least four or five passes deflected at
- 53:57the line of scrimmage, against a tall quarterback in Herbert.
- 54:00Brandan: Yeah.
- 54:01That could be
- 54:05I, I don't know if Herbert has had that issue traditionally, or- No… if
- 54:09that was just them being locked in on the defensive line, but that is…
- 54:15It, it was odd that, that it showed up s- as much as it did
- 54:19against Herbert and the Chargers.
- 54:21And yeah, whether that was just a coaching point of the defense that week or…
- 54:27yeah, there's- I'm with you.
- 54:29That seems very unlikely that they put together back-to-back weeks where
- 54:33they're throwing up their hands and, and batting balls down randomly.
- 54:36Adam: High variance stuff, you know?
- 54:38And Seahawks will be getting healthier.
- 54:40I mean, you gotta think that Ty Okada's gonna have a chance to play.
- 54:44You think Nick Emmanwori probably got a chance to play.
- 54:47You gotta think that Tory Horton is, gotta be getting somewhere
- 54:50close, like come on now.
- 54:51Oh, yeah.
- 54:51Like y- that, that feels, that feels right.
- 54:54obviously we won't have Sam, but I am looking forward to a full Drew
- 54:58Lock game and a full week and a half of preparation for him, and, to see if
- 55:03he can, you know, duplicate the success that he had against a playoff team from
- 55:07last year, even if they were fraudulent.
- 55:09And, I think he can take it out on a fraudulent team, just
- 55:14NFL team in the, in the Cardinals.
- 55:17Brandan: Where do you stand on this?
- 55:18I do wanna see Drew Lock, but going back to last year, I, I was opposed to the
- 55:24idea of Jalen Milroe packages, especially with the way Sam Darnold was playing.
- 55:31Like it just- Mm-hmm… it didn't make sense to take Sam off the field, who was
- 55:36the, the more, the dominant quarterback.
- 55:39Now that it's Drew Lock out there, do your feelings change?
- 55:43'Cause I think mine do.
- 55:44I, I think that I am more open to the idea of having some Jalen Milroe package
- 55:50plays, especially throwing it out there against these Arizona Cardinals.
- 55:56I, I think I wanna see it.
- 56:00Adam: I think I'm with you, man.
- 56:02Like, because I was adamant last year.
- 56:03I was like, "I don't want any of this Mickey Mouse [catfish]."
- 56:06Like, let's, let's make sure that he goes out and develops as a quarterback
- 56:09like, why are we doing this, like Taysom Hill nonsense or, and all of that.
- 56:13And obviously we didn't do it much, and when we did do it, it was, It
- 56:16Brandan: it didn't work very
- 56:17Adam: well, no… it was a disaster, right?
- 56:18But, yeah, in this case…
- 56:21'Cause like I, I think they're very different quarterbacks at
- 56:24this stages in their careers.
- 56:27but in terms of like what they could bring to the offense
- 56:31in terms of overall ability, I think it's closer than you'd think.
- 56:35I don't think Drew's like- You know, Sam Darnold leaps ahead of where
- 56:39Jalen Milroe is right now as an overall quarterback if you take into
- 56:43account the legs and everything.
- 56:45Brandan: Yeah.
- 56:45Adam: And so if that's the case, or maybe even if the offense is going through
- 56:49a, a tough spell and, you know, k- just struggling a little bit, get Milroe out
- 56:54there, get an ex- exciting play going, and all of a sudden now you're cooking.
- 56:58So yeah, I could, I could see it.
- 57:01Brandan: The Charlie the Unicorn in chat says, "No way."
- 57:03Okay.
- 57:03And-
- 57:04Adam: Fair enough
- 57:04… Brandan: the, the way I could- If they were…
- 57:10My thought process on this too is you have this week to get
- 57:14Drew Lock prepared for this game.
- 57:17Do you really want to be messing around trying to install
- 57:20Jalen Milroe package plays?
- 57:22you would have had some of that, I suppose, in the preseason.
- 57:25Yeah.
- 57:25But it does feel like if you're gonna throw out, throw it out there in this
- 57:28game, you might want to practice it.
- 57:30And maybe it's not so smart to take away from Drew Lock practice time this week
- 57:35in preparation against the Cardinals.
- 57:37Adam: Extra practice time this week, though, with the- Yeah… the
- 57:40previous game being played on Wednesday.
- 57:42So, you know, maybe you've got it.
- 57:44Yeah.
- 57:45Look
- 57:45Brandan: man, I- Nate shoots F it.
- 57:46Start Milroe.
- 57:47Adam: Dude, I-… I, I'm totally comfortable with Drew Lock.
- 57:51I'm happy with Drew Lock going out there, all of that.
- 57:54Like, the coaching staff can make their decision.
- 57:55Obviously, he's number two on the depth chart for a reason in their mind.
- 57:58But I'm with Nate here, man.
- 58:00I would love to see Milroe just get a start.
- 58:02In fact, this is an interesting question, Brandan.
- 58:05Let's say, let's say Darnold, his injury was 12 weeks, right?
- 58:12Brandan: Sure.
- 58:12Adam: All right.
- 58:13Do you want to roll with Drew Lock for 12 weeks or would
- 58:16you rather see Jalen Milroe?
- 58:19'Cause I think I'd rather see Milroe if that's the case.
- 58:23Not that it's happening.
- 58:24I, obviously, it, it sounds short term and all that.
- 58:26Yeah.
- 58:26So then this is, this is in the what if category.
- 58:29And maybe you and, and Phil and Clinton can-… dive into this on What
- 58:33If later this week when you guys do the, the preview for the Cards game.
- 58:37Brandan: The reason why I'd be with you is because if you're talking about
- 58:42a 12-week injury, then you're also…
- 58:44then it probably isn't the same type of injury that Darnold ended up with.
- 58:49Adam: Right.
- 58:49Brandan: And if you're talking about Darnold having a hip injury-… and
- 58:53it being like a l-…
- 58:55Yeah, Charlie the Unicorn terminal butt.
- 58:57Oh
- 58:57Adam: we both clicked at the same time.
- 58:58Yeah.
- 58:59That's
- 58:59Brandan: hilarious.
- 58:59Charlie the Unicorn saying terminal butt injury.
- 59:02yeah.
- 59:03The good thing is it's not a terminal butt injury.
- 59:05But, yeah, if you're- Never… talking about it being a hip injury
- 59:08and not knowing how he's gonna respond to that, then you're getting into
- 59:12the territory of long-term feeling comfortable paying Sam Darnold
- 59:18because of this- That's a good point
- 59:19weird injury.
- 59:20And, and then you want to see if this quarterback of the
- 59:23future thing can work out.
- 59:24And so, yeah, then I'd be with you for the 12 weeks.
- 59:28But, you know, it, it's possible that Drew could be that guy.
- 59:31I mean, he's…
- 59:32He has the same, similar types of arm talent that Darnold has.
- 59:38There's nothing to say that with reps and in this offense that Drew can't
- 59:43come in and be 90% of Sam Darnold.
- 59:48Adam: Look, we, or at least me, giant doubting Darnold.
- 59:55Like I, I, when he came in, like, he, his whole career I've just never been
- 59:59a Sam Darnold guy, up until last year, and now he's my quarterback.
- 1:00:03Like I, you know, it, it's all changed because he went out on the
- 1:00:06field and proved everybody wrong.
- 1:00:08I think one of the real, benefits of Mike Macdonald saying, "We're
- 1:00:16not gonna have their offense or this offense or whatever, we're gonna have
- 1:00:20the Seahawks offense," is that the way they play football, it's not…
- 1:00:24I mean, every offense is quarterback-centric to a degree
- 1:00:27but This offense is like, you, you watch Shanahan like roll through
- 1:00:32quarterbacks like underwear, right?
- 1:00:33And- Right… like, and have success with a lot of them.
- 1:00:36So there is a real path for Drew to come in and have a big couple weeks.
- 1:00:42And I think one of the things, because it's a shorter term injury
- 1:00:45that is important, is that you have to change offense less for Drew
- 1:00:48like, 'cause stylistically him and Sam are probably closer to the same
- 1:00:52quarterback than like Sam and, and Jalen.
- 1:00:55So it makes more sense to bring in Drew for a few weeks, and I think he could go
- 1:00:59off and have a monster, couple games.
- 1:01:01You said 90% of Sam Darnold.
- 1:01:04I honestly believe now, because anything is possible in this league
- 1:01:07with-… all the resurrected quarterbacks, that we could see 100% of
- 1:01:12Sam Darnold production out of Drew Lock over the course of a couple games here.
- 1:01:16Brandan: I just wasn't ready to go 100% Sam Darnold straight
- 1:01:19out of the gate with Drew Lock.
- 1:01:20Adam: I'm just saying it's on the board.
- 1:01:21I'm not saying that that's like if we're playing the what's more likely
- 1:01:24game that that's the most likely thing.
- 1:01:26Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:01:26Adam: But I, I'm not ruling much out, from here on forward.
- 1:01:32Brandan: We got Rick Darcy saying, "It's great that Arizona beat the LA Chargers.
- 1:01:36We will take them seriously."
- 1:01:39And if that…
- 1:01:40I- if there's anything positive that I could…
- 1:01:42Well, there are some other positives that I could take away from the
- 1:01:45the Cardinals beating the Chargers.
- 1:01:47But if there's one thing that is maybe most critical to our Seahawks
- 1:01:50success, it is that, yeah, Mike Macdonald's not gonna let the
- 1:01:56the Seahawks, yeah, overlook the Cardinals now going into week two.
- 1:02:02Adam: They didn't overlook-
- 1:02:03Brandan: Not that he is going to
- 1:02:03Adam: anyway.
- 1:02:03Yeah, they didn't overlook nobody last year.
- 1:02:05Mike in his mentality and this team's mentality, they're so
- 1:02:08business-minded, so process-focused.
- 1:02:10Like, it's hard for me to imagine that we'll, we'll get done with any game.
- 1:02:16Let's say they even lost to the Cardinals, lost badly.
- 1:02:18I, I have a hard time thinking that if even that happened
- 1:02:22that we go, "You know what?
- 1:02:23I don't think they took them seriously."
- 1:02:25I just don't think that's this team's DNA.
- 1:02:27Brandan: It, it doesn't seem like it is.
- 1:02:29Adam: Yeah.
- 1:02:31Brandan: Charlie the Unicorn saying, "You need Darnold for the 49ers."
- 1:02:36We'll see.
- 1:02:38I, I, I'm just-
- 1:02:39Adam: I don't know.
- 1:02:39All we have to do is score what?
- 1:02:4210.
- 1:02:4317 points?
- 1:02:45Yeah.
- 1:02:45I love…
- 1:02:46See, here's the greatest part.
- 1:02:47Well, now we can get into the second half of the show-… where we talk a little
- 1:02:50bit of, Niners-Rams because, that game turned out just, perfectly.
- 1:02:57It was.
- 1:02:57Just perfectly for a number of reasons.
- 1:02:59Brandan: It was so perfect.
- 1:03:00you have me so excited now to move on from this match up against the Cardinals
- 1:03:04because I am looking forward- Ooh
- 1:03:06to talking, yeah, the
- 1:03:09Adam: I'll overlook them.
- 1:03:10I don't give a crap.
- 1:03:12Brandan: That's what we do- No… as fans.
- 1:03:13We've been, we've been- Yeah… overlooking the Cardinals
- 1:03:15for years, and that's why that, for Cardinals fans, the Seahawks
- 1:03:20team is their number one rival.
- 1:03:21I, I don't necess- I guess that's just- Can it be-… where we've landed
- 1:03:28Adam: just one-sided?
- 1:03:28I, but- Like, it, it…
- 1:03:28That's like, that's like saying somebody's your girlfriend and they never agreed
- 1:03:31to, like, be in a relationship with you.
- 1:03:33Like, yeah.
- 1:03:34we're the
- 1:03:35Brandan: hot chick- We, we didn't agree-… that says no… to this rivalry.
- 1:03:36Yeah, why- Yeah… why, why did you pick us?
- 1:03:38There's- I-… other teams in the division.
- 1:03:41Adam: Yeah.
- 1:03:41Maybe, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:03:42Maybe it has to do with that stupid Indian burial ground that
- 1:03:45they built a stupid field on.
- 1:03:47Like-
- 1:03:47Brandan: Yeah, I know.
- 1:03:48I saw, I think it was Yokai Hawk saying, "Do we wanna test you, man, on this
- 1:03:51Indian burial ground of a stadium?"
- 1:03:54Adam: That's fair.
- 1:03:55That's fair.
- 1:03:56Brandan: It is, it is fair.
- 1:03:57Yeah.
- 1:03:58But, you know, if w- if we're worrying about injuries to players and…
- 1:04:04we, w- we've moved on from the years of serious injuries at, at Arizona.
- 1:04:10And, It's over… knock on wood.
- 1:04:11Yeah.
- 1:04:11It's over.
- 1:04:12We've just…
- 1:04:12It's, it's over now.
- 1:04:14Adam: Yeah.
- 1:04:14All right, all over it, man.
- 1:04:16Thank God there's lots of wood around here.
- 1:04:17Yeah.
- 1:04:18Brandan: All right, we're gonna be back, for the second
- 1:04:20half of the show coming up next.
- 1:04:24Brandan: Getting into the second half of the show, Adam.
- 1:04:28Week one tied a record for the most points scored in the
- 1:04:33opening week of an NFL season.
- 1:04:35791 points.
- 1:04:38It was the record set back in 2012.
- 1:04:40It was the record tied just this past week.
- 1:04:44791 total points.
- 1:04:48Do you know which team in the NFL scored the fewest amount of points in week one?
- 1:04:56Adam: The dirty, stupid, can't stand them L- fake Los Angeles Rams?
- 1:05:01Brandan: The Los Angeles Rams.
- 1:05:03The only team in the NFL- Oh, no.
- 1:05:06… to score seven points or fewer in a game.
- 1:05:09Adam, I hope, I hope the travel wasn't the issue, because then
- 1:05:15maybe the Rams are just that bad.
- 1:05:17Adam: Oh, my goodness.
- 1:05:19Like, this was so delicious on a thousand levels.
- 1:05:24Watching…
- 1:05:26Although, the only problem, slightly, is the Niners being the one that did
- 1:05:30the belt to ass performance here.
- 1:05:32Right.
- 1:05:32But there's actually a silver lining in that too, which I'll get to
- 1:05:36which kind of made this perfect.
- 1:05:37So the Lambs went out there and, flew to Australia, seemed to give
- 1:05:42zero [catfish] about the game, just like they give about their first-round draft picks.
- 1:05:47It was F them games for them, 'cause they didn't take Aaron Donald
- 1:05:51they brought broken Miles Garrett with them, who did, jack and
- 1:05:56[catfish] throughout the, the night.
- 1:05:58Stafford looked like he's fallen off a cliff.
- 1:06:02and it's interesting to me, Brandan, the way that everybody in the
- 1:06:07media is just like, "Well, the travel.
- 1:06:09I mean, they screwed it up.
- 1:06:10They hired these consultants, and, you know, they sent Marge from accounting out
- 1:06:16and she was like, 'It's totally fine.'"
- 1:06:18You know?
- 1:06:18Or whatever it is that they did- Yeah… to, like, ahead of time to decide this
- 1:06:22is the way they were gonna do this.
- 1:06:24and I'm sure it was a factor, right?
- 1:06:28But-
- 1:06:28Brandan: It, it couldn't not be a factor.
- 1:06:30It w- leading up- No… to the game, how many people looked at what the Rams
- 1:06:35were doing and said, "Oh, that's smart.
- 1:06:39Why, why doesn't everybody do it that way?"
- 1:06:40No, everybody looked at and they said, "Oh, well, Sean McVay must know
- 1:06:45what he's doing, because he has to have a reason for doing it this way.
- 1:06:49Yes, to everyone involved it looked really, really dumb, but Sean McVay's a
- 1:06:55genius, so he must know what he's doing."
- 1:06:59Adam: Yeah.
- 1:06:59Also too, like, while a factor- There was other things that were at play there.
- 1:07:05They were, they were completely outcoached.
- 1:07:08Like, what, did the plane ride and the late arrival make it so Sean
- 1:07:12McVay couldn't have a game plan?
- 1:07:14Brandan: Right.
- 1:07:14Adam: Couldn't make adjustments.
- 1:07:15Benching was low.
- 1:07:16Yeah.
- 1:07:16But here's the thing, is like they all didn't just sit in their
- 1:07:19flying recliners in the sky.
- 1:07:21They s- they slept in their flying beds in the sky-… throughout the whole thing.
- 1:07:25Like, this excuse about the travel one way or the other for
- 1:07:29all the teams, it has to stop.
- 1:07:31It has to stop.
- 1:07:32I will not have it.
- 1:07:33Because at the end of the day, I traveled for my profession for 15 years
- 1:07:38and they talk about 10:00 AM starts.
- 1:07:40How about having a 4: 00 AM East Coast start and have to do a physical
- 1:07:44job, like, that you have to be on point for or you [catfish] die.
- 1:07:48Okay?
- 1:07:48Like, that's one of the things that I did.
- 1:07:50Guess what I did?
- 1:07:51Did it.
- 1:07:52And
- 1:07:52Adam: didn't die.
- 1:07:53'Cause you can do it.
- 1:07:53And I was way older.
- 1:07:55I was even older than Stafford for a, a good amount of this.
- 1:07:58Like, this travel excuse needs to go away, but the Rams are gonna
- 1:08:02lean heavily on it for sure.
- 1:08:04But it shows- But they're not.
- 1:08:05Brandan: The, I, I…
- 1:08:07McVay wasn't making a deal out of the travel.
- 1:08:09And so that's the weird thing about this, is that it, it was almost the
- 1:08:13media going, "Well, you know, s- he's not gonna go out and say that it was
- 1:08:16the travel," but we all, we all now believe it was the travel because it
- 1:08:21was two drastically different approaches that the media can go out and say…
- 1:08:28'Cause they are not gonna say, "Well, we are, oh, we were wrong about
- 1:08:30the Rams being the super team."
- 1:08:32No, they're, they're still the super team, they just…
- 1:08:34It was the travel and being unprepared against the Niners to
- 1:08:38why they looked as bad as they did.
- 1:08:41Adam: Again, I do believe it's a factor, but I think the
- 1:08:44overriding part of this is the fact that Aaron wasn't ready to go.
- 1:08:48A- Aaron, right?
- 1:08:50Mm-hmm.
- 1:08:50Like, he, he wasn't there.
- 1:08:51And then, Miles Garrett's lower leg, I was gonna say
- 1:08:56knee, but I guess we don't know.
- 1:08:58His, mis- mysterious lower leg injury that they traded for, you know
- 1:09:02damaged goods now has him on the IR, so he's gonna miss at least four weeks.
- 1:09:07Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:09:07Adam: And the way that Stafford looked, I think that had
- 1:09:11to be the most concerning thing.
- 1:09:12Because w- I feel like most people, when they penciled in, like, a Super
- 1:09:17Bowl for this, super team that they put together as off-season paper
- 1:09:21tiger champions, they failed to understand that, like, when you peak
- 1:09:26at an MVP season, there's often just natural regression, even if you're
- 1:09:30in your prime, let alone if you're 97 years old and have, you know, more
- 1:09:35white in your beard than Brandan does.
- 1:09:37Like, it's, it's unbelievable.
- 1:09:39Like, so his regression, or at least seeming regression, in
- 1:09:45week one, I think that's a…
- 1:09:46That should be a major red flag for the Lambs going forward.
- 1:09:51Brandan: I f- as far as Stafford goes, I would give that a couple
- 1:09:56weeks, because there's some…
- 1:09:58Half the quarterbacks in the league didn't look quite ready week one, and so I, I'm
- 1:10:06I'm kinda willing to wait and hold off on
- 1:10:08Adam: that.
- 1:10:08Record amount of points?
- 1:10:10Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:10:12It just…
- 1:10:13I, I'm more concerned about this.
- 1:10:14Miles Garrett going to injured reserve.
- 1:10:18Does…
- 1:10:18Like, four weeks, how does that factor into things for the Rams?
- 1:10:23Because that was, that was the scary point of this Rams defense.
- 1:10:28Yeah, okay- Mm-hmm… they, they, they upgraded the corners and, But
- 1:10:32Adam: did they after that game?
- 1:10:35Brandan: You, you wonder.
- 1:10:35Yeah.
- 1:10:36Because that's…
- 1:10:37I- if you aren't generating the type of pass rush that you thought you were going
- 1:10:42to get with that combination of Aaron Donald and Miles Garrett, at this point
- 1:10:49if Aaron Donald wasn't ready to go week one, if Miles Garrett is now out for
- 1:10:54four weeks, do you just push this back and say, "Hey, we're, we're gonna
- 1:11:00get this defense rolling in a couple weeks when both these guys are ready"?
- 1:11:04But then you're talking about now you're going to face off against
- 1:11:08a New York Giants team that looked pretty good in week one.
- 1:11:12Adam: Dude, Giants played some bully ball, the other
- 1:11:16night against the Cowboys, man.
- 1:11:18Like-
- 1:11:18Brandan: Yeah
- 1:11:18… Adam: they jellied it right down the Cowboys' throat.
- 1:11:21Like, there was no lube, no nothing.
- 1:11:23Like, you know, extra lineman, they had Ricard in there all the time, the
- 1:11:28the big fullback, and Skattebo, and they just pounded the bejesus out of them.
- 1:11:33can this Rams defensive line hold up to that, even with, 35-year-old
- 1:11:39Aaron Donald possibly back for that game?
- 1:11:42Maybe he's not.
- 1:11:42It's hard telling not knowing.
- 1:11:44But, I think Garrett looked terrible in the last game.
- 1:11:50I mean, he couldn't do nothing against, again, ancient Trent Williams.
- 1:11:55Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:11:55Adam: Like, that, that's gotta be- Well
- 1:11:57Brandan: there, there was the narrative, well, oh, Trent Williams
- 1:12:00is the greatest left tackle to ever play left tackle, and so that was-
- 1:12:04Adam: Well, he didn't meet Walter Jones, but that's fine.
- 1:12:06yeah.
- 1:12:07Brandan: I think that was before Miles Garrett also went to IR and
- 1:12:10that injury was announced, but…
- 1:12:12Adam: Yeah.
- 1:12:12But terrible game.
- 1:12:14They got out-physicaled, they got out-coached, they got out-hustled, they
- 1:12:17got out-thought, they got out everything.
- 1:12:21And- It was at the hands of the 49ers, which can be annoying when you first
- 1:12:26look at it and be like, "Ah, it stinks to see the Niners do good," right?
- 1:12:29Yeah.
- 1:12:30Right out of the gate.
- 1:12:31I know.
- 1:12:31But here's the thing, here's the thing.
- 1:12:33This is what's awesome about this.
- 1:12:35remember when we played the Niners in week 18, and it was 13
- 1:12:39to three, and they all acted like that that was actually a close game?
- 1:12:42Remember that?
- 1:12:42Uh-huh.
- 1:12:42And their whole offense was healthy for the most part.
- 1:12:46Brandan: For the most part.
- 1:12:46Adam: Like, all they were missing was Purce,l- Right… which
- 1:12:49they're still missing.
- 1:12:50Eh.
- 1:12:50Yeah.
- 1:12:52I remember that.
- 1:12:52I remember when they got molly whomped in the, playoffs, really only
- 1:12:57missing Kittle on offense, right?
- 1:13:00Brandan: Mm-hmm.
- 1:13:00Adam: And, yeah, sure, he's back, and that's nice.
- 1:13:04That's cute.
- 1:13:05I love this false sense of confidence because the Niners, when
- 1:13:09they came into that week 18 game, number one offense in the league
- 1:13:12and they're gonna take the number one seed and, like, they did all this, you
- 1:13:16know, with their defense in shambles and Houdini, Han, whatever, right?
- 1:13:20And then the Seahawks said, "That's hilarious," and then
- 1:13:22beat the tar out of them, right?
- 1:13:24They strangled them.
- 1:13:26I can't wait for the Niners to be riding high again.
- 1:13:29"Well, we beat the Rams week one, and look what we did
- 1:13:31against all these other teams."
- 1:13:33And along comes the world champs, and we just snuff the life out of them again.
- 1:13:38Like, that's gonna make that week one loss of the Rams feel good, and it's
- 1:13:41gonna feel so awesome when we do it to the Niners in a few weeks here.
- 1:13:46It…
- 1:13:46I love it.
- 1:13:47I love it.
- 1:13:47Let's give them a little false confidence for a couple weeks.
- 1:13:50A little false confidence- And you know
- 1:13:51Brandan: they-… is good
- 1:13:51… Adam: yeah.
- 1:13:52Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:13:52Adam: Yeah.
- 1:13:53Brandan: The-
- 1:13:54Adam: And they'll probably be half injured by then, you know?
- 1:13:56Brandan: Yeah, I mean, if history is any indicator, it's…
- 1:13:59Gosh, Stribling couldn't even make it through week one against the Rams.
- 1:14:04Adam: Who?
- 1:14:05Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:14:05Well
- 1:14:05Adam: he's- He's gotta do something in the league first before I believe that
- 1:14:08that's somebody I need to be afraid of.
- 1:14:10Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:14:11He was a high draft pick.
- 1:14:12They seem to like him.
- 1:14:13Adam: He needs to do something in the league first.
- 1:14:15He had
- 1:14:15Brandan: a nice pre-season.
- 1:14:17Adam: He needs to do something in the league, you know?
- 1:14:20Yeah.
- 1:14:20Sure.
- 1:14:21I mean, Mike Evans had the touchdown.
- 1:14:23That was nice.
- 1:14:23I mean-
- 1:14:23Brandan: Mike Evans had a legit game.
- 1:14:26Adam: Yeah.
- 1:14:26Week one.
- 1:14:27I mean, we'll see how long his hamstring's hold out.
- 1:14:29Brandan: Sure.
- 1:14:30Adam: Yeah
- 1:14:32Brandan: So that was the other nice part about…
- 1:14:35Because we talked about it in the first half, nice part
- 1:14:38about the Cardinals winning.
- 1:14:39Our Seahawks definitely gonna take them seriously.
- 1:14:42The only other nice part is that now the Rams are last place in the division.
- 1:14:46Adam: And they could be there for a couple weeks.
- 1:14:48Well- I see a path for the Giants to win that football game.
- 1:14:52Brandan: I wasn't so sure about it, looking at the
- 1:14:55schedule going into the season.
- 1:14:57But based off of the way they played against the Cowboys
- 1:15:01they, they could beat the Rams.
- 1:15:03Adam: They very well could.
- 1:15:04Brandan: It, it's in play.
- 1:15:05Adam: They very well could.
- 1:15:07it's gonna be fun.
- 1:15:09Gonna be fun to watch.
- 1:15:10And, yeah, a bunch of Ls for the rest of the NFC West this week.
- 1:15:15That'd be, that'd be amazing.
- 1:15:16Brandan: Yeah, who do the Niners play this week?
- 1:15:19Adam: I don't know.
- 1:15:20I, I, I can't say that I follow the Niners schedule in
- 1:15:23every single game week to week.
- 1:15:25I
- 1:15:25Brandan: know who the Cardinals play.
- 1:15:26I know who the Rams play.
- 1:15:28Right.
- 1:15:28yeah.
- 1:15:28We have producers in chat who are able to look it up for us, or just
- 1:15:33let us know who the Niners play.
- 1:15:35Adam: Yeah.
- 1:15:35Brandan: But, that is the, the one team that…
- 1:15:39I, I don't know who I'm rooting for this week, apart from the Giants.
- 1:15:44Like Nate's saying, go Giants.
- 1:15:47Adam: I don't know, just whoever's playing them.
- 1:15:48That's all I need to know.
- 1:15:49Brandan: Right.
- 1:15:50Adam: Yeah.
- 1:15:50I could, I can muster the sports hate from there.
- 1:15:54Brandan: I, I, just on, on short, s- notice.
- 1:15:57Yeah.
- 1:15:57Oh, no.
- 1:15:59Adam, can you be a Dolphins fan this week?
- 1:16:01Adam: I can't.
- 1:16:02I can't muster the hate.
- 1:16:04I can't.
- 1:16:06God, I hate Dolphins franchises so
- 1:16:06Brandan: much.
- 1:16:06Oh, that was the worst answer.
- 1:16:08Thanks for nothing, Yokai Hawk.
- 1:16:11Adam: Yeah, yeah, it's all your fault, Yokai, for
- 1:16:13scheduling that game.
- 1:16:15Yeah.
- 1:16:16GR double gross, God.
- 1:16:18Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:16:19Yeah.
- 1:16:19And then they have the Cardinals the week after that.
- 1:16:23Adam: Yeah, well, Cardinals will be fired up, and angry
- 1:16:27after losing to the Seahawks badly.
- 1:16:29They're gonna have to come out and show they're not, pretenders.
- 1:16:33Brandan: Dolphins not the worst team in the league, we discovered this weekend.
- 1:16:36Adam: Hmm.
- 1:16:37Brandan: did you watch any of the Browns game?
- 1:16:41Adam: No, I have dignity.
- 1:16:42Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:16:43Yeah.
- 1:16:43The, the Browns were easily the worst team in that-
- 1:16:45Adam: Actually, I did, I did watch the, like, NFL package
- 1:16:48highlights, like the 15-minute variety.
- 1:16:50Yeah.
- 1:16:51Brandan: Uh-huh.
- 1:16:51Adam: Just because there's…
- 1:16:53I am not somebody that revels, like, legitimately in, like, individual failure
- 1:16:59of these professional athletes.
- 1:17:01Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:17:02Adam: But, I'll tell you what, I love watching Deshaun Watson
- 1:17:06go out there and look like ass.
- 1:17:08Like, it, it is the most satisfying thing in the world.
- 1:17:11I hope he falls on his face every single game.
- 1:17:13Those six interceptions couldn't happen to a nicer human.
- 1:17:16Like, congratulations on your suckage, Deshaun.
- 1:17:19Like, you, you, you, you, you earned it.
- 1:17:21Brandan: I don't even know if he was the, the most suckage
- 1:17:25on the, on the team though.
- 1:17:26That defense.
- 1:17:28Where's the Browns defense?
- 1:17:30Adam: Oh, I don't know.
- 1:17:30I fast-forwarded through that part, 'cause I just wanted to watch Watson suck.
- 1:17:34Sure.
- 1:17:34Yeah.
- 1:17:35He, he, he deserves every minute of it.
- 1:17:38Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:17:38And I, I figured that maybe, maybe that's where you're
- 1:17:42going, and, that tracks.
- 1:17:44Adam: Yeah.
- 1:17:45Brandan: Well, we have a group of executive producers that, we love
- 1:17:49to cheer for, and that is our group of, donors that support us each
- 1:17:55and every week, starting with DCH, Doug Chancel Harry; Ryan Peterson
- 1:18:01our YouTube live executive producer, who we haven't seen tonight; Lisa
- 1:18:05Carlson; Dave Bloomquist; James Stradley.
- 1:18:09Adam, I think that's James's last name, right?
- 1:18:13Adam: No.
- 1:18:13No.
- 1:18:14Brandan: No?
- 1:18:14Adam: It's, it's Gertz.
- 1:18:15Yeah.
- 1:18:15Brandan: Oh, James Gertz.
- 1:18:16Okay.
- 1:18:17We had a Stradley in the comments, and I thought that was
- 1:18:19Adam: Yeah.
- 1:18:20No.
- 1:18:21Brandan: Okay.
- 1:18:21So- No
- 1:18:21Adam: we get…
- 1:18:21We just call him Neighbor James.
- 1:18:23Brandan: Neighbor James-
- 1:18:24Adam: Yeah
- 1:18:24… Brandan: and Brian Shaw We got the, we got the one-
- 1:18:28Adam: We've got, we've got a lot of management.
- 1:18:29Yeah.
- 1:18:30We got a lot of
- 1:18:30Brandan: management.
- 1:18:30I know.
- 1:18:31Adam: That's good.
- 1:18:32Brandan: We got the 1,212.12
- 1:18:34from James.
- 1:18:36we mentioned that on the, the live after the show.
- 1:18:39Yeah, we
- 1:18:39Adam: should, we should mention that again.
- 1:18:40Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:41James, stepped up with the 1212.12.
- 1:18:44Yeah… yeah.
- 1:18:45And that was all in one number, so like the decimal is way back there, you know?
- 1:18:49And, just awesome, man.
- 1:18:51We appreciate it a ton.
- 1:18:53It was awesome having him along for the last trip.
- 1:18:55Brandan: That's why I had to make him executive producer.
- 1:18:57Adam: Oh, yeah.
- 1:18:58Yeah.
- 1:19:00Brandan: Candice Fulton also came in at $60 at- Dang… getintheflock.com
- 1:19:05so five bucks a month for the year.
- 1:19:07Kyle Johnson, a donation of $25 via PayPal at seahawkspodcast.com.
- 1:19:14Hell yeah.
- 1:19:14And, Kyle says, "Starting the season out with good hawk ra.
- 1:19:19Go Hawks."
- 1:19:20Go Hawks, Kyle.
- 1:19:21Adam: Go Hawks, Kyle.
- 1:19:22You ain't wrong, man.
- 1:19:23You started the season out with good hawker and the team fed off of it
- 1:19:26and now we're all basking in, defending a championship type hawk ra.
- 1:19:30And, I think we're killing it.
- 1:19:32Brandan: Got Brian Shaw back in with $112.12
- 1:19:37via Zelle.
- 1:19:38Adam: Man.
- 1:19:39Brandan: And, Steven Kirkpatrick came in, Adam, with
- 1:19:42the score donation of 13.10.
- 1:19:45Adam: Man, you can set your watch to just only a few things in this
- 1:19:48world, and Steven is one of them.
- 1:19:50that's awesome, dude.
- 1:19:51We always appreciate you, bud.
- 1:19:53Thank you so much.
- 1:19:55Brandan: We got Shane Turner Acoustic, who came in live via
- 1:19:58YouTube, saying, "Hey, guys.
- 1:19:59Actually made it for a live again.
- 1:20:01Let's go smash the cards this week."
- 1:20:04Yeah.
- 1:20:04"Can't wait to see more price and hopefully some Diggs at quarterback."
- 1:20:09Adam: He probably meant, corner, back there.
- 1:20:12thinking of Trevon there.
- 1:20:14And would you, after the Pritchett performance, are you itching to see
- 1:20:20Trevon Diggs back there instead of Dami?
- 1:20:24Brandan: Pritchett- I'm not sure I am… Pritchett played
- 1:20:27very solid for a week one.
- 1:20:30I'm- Just damn
- 1:20:30Adam: good football game.
- 1:20:32Brandan: I'm, I am kind of excited, and I think that, like I said, a- apart from
- 1:20:37maybe Wilson, you know, just 'cause he's a little bit shiftier, I, I think he could
- 1:20:44end up with some catches on Pritchett.
- 1:20:46But I, I think that he could…
- 1:20:48Pritchett could lock down Harrison.
- 1:20:49I'm not even concerned.
- 1:20:51Adam: Yeah.
- 1:20:52And, Michael W- I just, I don't get it.
- 1:20:56I don't understand the, i- at all, the fear of Michael Wilson doing anything
- 1:21:00Brandan: other than- It's not a fear of Michael Wilson, it's just that he's
- 1:21:03going to finish the game with five catches- Well-… 60 yards, and they're
- 1:21:08probably all gonna come against Pritchett
- 1:21:12Adam: maybe against…
- 1:21:13I, I was gonna go, like, four for 40.
- 1:21:15I, I feel like that feels about right.
- 1:21:16Either stat line there is, delightfully meh.
- 1:21:21Like-
- 1:21:21Brandan: Right
- 1:21:22Adam: Yeah.
- 1:21:22Brandan: But I, you know what I like is zero catches for zero yards.
- 1:21:26Adam: Well, we all would like that, but the world isn't perfection now, is it?
- 1:21:31Brandan: Yeah, Yokai Hawk coming in live with 2,000 yen.
- 1:21:34Prediction, two wins, zero losses, zero ties, zero points for the
- 1:21:39Short Breaks, for the Short Beaks.
- 1:21:41Adam: Dude, appreciate that.
- 1:21:43yeah, man, two wins.
- 1:21:45Let's go.
- 1:21:45I like the prediction a lot.
- 1:21:47I'm hoping, you know, that, that yen hasn't cratered out.
- 1:21:51Like, I heard it wasn't doing good there for a minute, and we had
- 1:21:54to, like, try to bail it out, right?
- 1:21:56Brandan: I have no idea.
- 1:21:57I d- I keep track of, like, zero things that aren't football and work.
- 1:22:01Adam: Oh, okay.
- 1:22:01Well, yeah.
- 1:22:02Apparently, apparently the, you know, the yen is having a
- 1:22:05a tough time right now, so…
- 1:22:08Brandan: getintheflock.com
- 1:22:09if you wanna help support the show.
- 1:22:11You can also go to seahawkerspodcast.com
- 1:22:14and click the donate button if you wanna donate via Zelle
- 1:22:18at Hawkra or, Cash App.
- 1:22:21All kinds of ways to help support the show, and we appreciate it because, yeah
- 1:22:27we get to do cool things like go out and, visit with the Flockers, Adam.
- 1:22:32We, we got to meet a couple people.
- 1:22:34also should mention a couple YouTube members, Yosa Mom
- 1:22:38Christopher McSwain coming in via YouTube, so- Hell yeah, man
- 1:22:41appreciate everybody coming in here this past week.
- 1:22:44Adam: Dude, big week.
- 1:22:45we're all fired up, man, to run this thing forward, and I'm, I'm so stoked
- 1:22:49to have y'all with us 'cause this is, this is gonna be a season to remember.
- 1:22:53I, I guarantee it
- 1:22:55Brandan: All right.
- 1:22:56What do you say we get into some Do Better-… and Better at Life?
- 1:23:01Adam: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:23:01I love Yo Kai's, comment here.
- 1:23:03"This is hilarious.
- 1:23:04Adam, I have no paycheck.
- 1:23:05I can't afford a deflation multiplier."
- 1:23:07Understood.
- 1:23:08Yeah, we're, we're all feeling it, bud.
- 1:23:10Yeah.
- 1:23:10No doubt.
- 1:23:10Brandan: Absolutely.
- 1:23:11Adam: Yeah.
- 1:23:12Brandan: All right.
- 1:23:13My Do Better this week is for all of the, I don't know, I guess we could
- 1:23:19say Seahawks fans coming out, and one of the worst things that I think could
- 1:23:23happen in our, among our fans, Adam, is Kenneth Walker coming out and
- 1:23:29having a really good game against the Chiefs because it's reignited all these
- 1:23:34feelings of, "I wanted to keep K9.
- 1:23:37I thought he would've been the better guy.
- 1:23:38Oh, but we have to manage the salary cap."
- 1:23:40So- Mm… it, it's, it, the, these conversations that we had six months
- 1:23:44ago rising to the top because K9 comes out and runs for, what was it?
- 1:23:49Like 26, 27 carries and almost 200 yards, two touchdowns.
- 1:23:55Like, the dude had a great game, and I'm genuinely happy for K9.
- 1:24:00I, I…
- 1:24:01And selfishly, yeah, I, I would want Kenneth Walker on this team, but y-
- 1:24:06this is, these are all things that we have discussed in the off-season.
- 1:24:10Like, we, we, we have staked our claim on this argument already, and
- 1:24:15we've moved on from it because this is a, a long-term play by our GM.
- 1:24:20And this is, y- you, you wanna move on from running backs before it's too late.
- 1:24:27And while I hope that K9 goes on and has an awesome career, I'm just…
- 1:24:32I'm, I'm a little bit upset that it's brought this to the surface, and now
- 1:24:37one Monday night game a- and we're back at the arguments that we had all off-season.
- 1:24:41And for that, do better.
- 1:24:44Adam: I hear you, man.
- 1:24:44I mean, A, week one, week one's weird.
- 1:24:47B, it's one week.
- 1:24:49You know, if you just flip the two words and then it's
- 1:24:51you know, a little different.
- 1:24:52Like, let's not make any conclusions yet.
- 1:24:55also too, like, good for K9, you know?
- 1:24:58It, we still all love K9, for sure.
- 1:25:01helped bring us our second Super Bowl trophy, and, and all of that.
- 1:25:05But, like, multiple things can be true at once, right?
- 1:25:08Like- Right… the decision to move off K9 and not pay him and manage the
- 1:25:11cap that way can be a good decision.
- 1:25:14The Chiefs picking him up and, using him appropriately, like
- 1:25:18that can be a good decision or, you know, a good thing and true.
- 1:25:22Like, the idea that the- K9's gonna have a nice year, that can be true.
- 1:25:27It can be true that we hit on our first round draft pick in Jadarian
- 1:25:30Price, and, like, that worked out well.
- 1:25:32It can be true that Jadarian had a really nice, opening weekend, right?
- 1:25:36So it, I, I feel like that conversation that you're talking about here is
- 1:25:41probably more appro- appropriately made, after we play the Chiefs in Lumen.
- 1:25:46I think that, that's a time where you can do that.
- 1:25:48Mm.
- 1:25:49And then the next time will be in the off-season.
- 1:25:53Brandan: It does feel…
- 1:25:53It, and that's, I think, what it is to me.
- 1:25:55It, it feels like a, a almost a two-year discussion because, you
- 1:26:02know, what will the Chiefs have accomplished after two years?
- 1:26:06Papa Ted in chat saying Andy Reid will run him till the tires blow.
- 1:26:10I hope not.
- 1:26:10I, I hope
- 1:26:11Adam: that- I don't know.
- 1:26:13Brandan: He
- 1:26:13Adam: looked really
- 1:26:14Brandan: good.
- 1:26:14Adam: I, I mean, tell me, tell me which running back Andy
- 1:26:16Reid has run into the ground.
- 1:26:17Like, the Andy Reid story is, is that he forgets that running is a thing.
- 1:26:22Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:26:23Well, Papa Said did that with every back.
- 1:26:24I, I don't know.
- 1:26:27Adam: You're talking about, like, Brian Westbrook?
- 1:26:28Brandan: I, w- with Shady McCoy?
- 1:26:30Like, I don't know if he ran him
- 1:26:32Adam: into the- Well, Shady had good years in Buffalo.
- 1:26:33Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:26:34Adam: Yeah.
- 1:26:36Brandan: I don't know.
- 1:26:36I, I just…
- 1:26:37I hope that both running backs end up being awesome, and it just ends up being
- 1:26:41the right decision in terms of salary cap.
- 1:26:44And yeah, that's
- 1:26:48Adam: Yeah.
- 1:26:48L- DeSean was a- DeSean Jackson
- 1:26:49a, a, a receiver, though, so.
- 1:26:53Brandan: yeah, I, I think that…
- 1:26:56I, I, I hope it works out for everybody because I do-
- 1:27:00Adam: And it can, right?
- 1:27:02… love Kane.
- 1:27:02Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:27:03It's on the board.
- 1:27:04All right, man, you know what's on the board for me for my Do Better This Week?
- 1:27:07It's my favorite publication that I love to freaking hate.
- 1:27:10Brandan: Oh
- 1:27:10Adam: no.
- 1:27:11It's once again 12th Man Rising.
- 1:27:13Brandan: And look- Are they trying to trade Jalen Milroe?
- 1:27:16Adam: No, we're off that.
- 1:27:17We're off that.
- 1:27:17We're, now we're, now we're into writing counterdictory, contradictory
- 1:27:23main headlines with secondary headlines.
- 1:27:26And then, on a nonsense topic that doesn't even matter.
- 1:27:30The title of the article, "Seahawks Should Already Regret Their Gratuitous
- 1:27:34si- Signing of Dante Fowler Jr."
- 1:27:37Brandan: Oh.
- 1:27:38Adam: Sub-headline, "He Did Play Well Though."
- 1:27:43Seahawks regret it, he played well.
- 1:27:45Okay, let's get into the meat of the article here a little bit.
- 1:27:48After losing Boye Mafe…
- 1:27:50Here's another thing that I can't stand about the national
- 1:27:52narrative about this team.
- 1:27:53They all act like Boye Mafe was our number one pass rusher, not
- 1:27:57our fourth best pass rusher, right?
- 1:27:59Brandan: Right.
- 1:27:59Adam: Like, Bengals wildly overpaid for the guy, and then…
- 1:28:04No, it, I've looked into some of these, 12th Man R- Rising Charlie
- 1:28:09writers, and they're real people.
- 1:28:12Maybe they're using AI, but they're real human beings, from what I can tell.
- 1:28:16And he goes into this, he's like, "Well, he only played 16
- 1:28:20snaps, and they paid him 2.5
- 1:28:22million," this Dante Fowler.
- 1:28:24Oh.
- 1:28:25Oh my stars.
- 1:28:25Oh, no.
- 1:28:26That's a cup of coffee in the NFL.
- 1:28:29What the hell are we talking about?
- 1:28:30And he didn't have an impact.
- 1:28:30They could, they could've
- 1:28:31Brandan: paid K9 for three games for that money.
- 1:28:36Adam: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:28:37And then, like, well, he did have, like, one impactful play.
- 1:28:40Well, okay, that's all the more that B- Boye Mafe had any given
- 1:28:44game over the last couple years.
- 1:28:46This is so stupid.
- 1:28:47Like, we're trying to pick a nit about the fourth pass rusher that barely
- 1:28:51plays because he's the fourth pass rusher replacing our fourth pass rusher.
- 1:28:57Like, I'm so sick of this.
- 1:28:59These guys are idiots.
- 1:29:00I can't stand this publication.
- 1:29:02They should just fold up shop now.
- 1:29:0412th Man Rising and, Ernesto Cova, who, I don't know, maybe he is fake.
- 1:29:10Ernesto, do better.
- 1:29:13Brandan: I, the only thing that I don't like about this is these dudes
- 1:29:16have to be Seahawks fans, right?
- 1:29:17To, to write for 12th Man Rising.
- 1:29:19I, I don't like- Maybe… going after our own fans.
- 1:29:23Adam: I don't know that they are.
- 1:29:25People could hire me to write for the Niners.
- 1:29:27I'd write bangers for them.
- 1:29:29That's true.
- 1:29:29They'd sound a lot more like Grant Cohen's, commentary
- 1:29:31than anybody else, but yeah.
- 1:29:33Brandan: Yeah, I, I think I'd pay money for that.
- 1:29:35Do, can, can we make that happen?
- 1:29:37Adam: Please.
- 1:29:38Let's go.
- 1:29:39Yeah.
- 1:29:39I'll write, I'll write hate mail to the, the Faithful.
- 1:29:43Like, that sounds good.
- 1:29:44Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:29:45I…
- 1:29:46You know who did have a good game though?
- 1:29:47Boye Mafe did have a pretty good game for the Bengals this week.
- 1:29:52Sweet.
- 1:29:52Another guy I'm happy for.
- 1:29:53Yeah.
- 1:29:53But also, I can be happy that we didn't pay $20 million to keep him.
- 1:29:57Adam: That would've been insanity.
- 1:29:59Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:29:59I would see if…
- 1:30:01I would've…
- 1:30:01If, if we had kept Mafe and then seen the game that K9 had, then I would probably
- 1:30:06be a little bit more disappointed.
- 1:30:09Adam: Yeah, maybe.
- 1:30:10Maybe.
- 1:30:10But we won.
- 1:30:11Patriots are still sad.
- 1:30:13We're still current champs.
- 1:30:14All is right in the world.
- 1:30:16Brandan: Well, speaking of everything being right in the world, Adam, my better
- 1:30:20at life this week, all the Flockers that we got to hang out with and meet
- 1:30:24up with out in Seattle for opening week.
- 1:30:28Getting to see the banner unveiled with guys like Jason Bonner, to Nick Hathaway
- 1:30:34and Andrew Thackaberry, Tim Schmidt.
- 1:30:37Josh Height was there.
- 1:30:38Josh DeHooman in the Discord, you know him there.
- 1:30:41Nick, who's in chat right now too, I believe.
- 1:30:45Michael Paul.
- 1:30:46oh, w- there were two Nicks.
- 1:30:48There was Nick Hathaway and n- Nick Springer.
- 1:30:51That's right.
- 1:30:51we, Joshua Rhodes, Gary Blum made the trip over from New York
- 1:30:55and we got to hang out with him.
- 1:30:56That's funny.
- 1:30:56Mark Flynn was there.
- 1:30:58Nate Sheets.
- 1:30:59Nate I saw in chat earlier.
- 1:31:02Jake Burdine was there.
- 1:31:03So a big group of Flockers, and, we had a good time too celebrating
- 1:31:10Lisa and Greg's anniversary at, 13 Coins the night before.
- 1:31:15just an all around good time.
- 1:31:17I always enjoy spending time with, folks who listen to
- 1:31:21the show, 'cause they're awesome.
- 1:31:23And, to, to all of you who showed up, better at life than Skip Bayless.
- 1:31:27Adam: This is how much all of you little Flockers
- 1:31:29like, made Brandan and I's day.
- 1:31:32w- for all of you that showed up, all of you that, like, listen to
- 1:31:35the show and write in and everything.
- 1:31:36But all the folks that we got to hang out with, and whether that was with our
- 1:31:40good friend, Tracy Williams, for the, for the tailgate and all of that.
- 1:31:44my better at life was gonna be the Flockers too, so now I'm gonna pivot.
- 1:31:47Oh.
- 1:31:48I gotta pivot, gotta pivot fast.
- 1:31:49Brandan: We added Tracy to it, so the, you know, giving Tracy her own
- 1:31:52better at life is fine too, 'cause that- Well-… that was a kick-ass tailgate.
- 1:31:56Adam: It was a kick-ass tailgate.
- 1:31:57Kick-ass spot.
- 1:31:58Kick-a-… Just always.
- 1:31:59she's the best.
- 1:32:00She
- 1:32:01Brandan: on the fly moved.
- 1:32:02Like, we… It was supposed to be in a parking lot that was, like, three
- 1:32:06blocks to the north, and then, like, she texts me, cool and calm.
- 1:32:11Before, she's like, "Oh, we're gonna have to move."
- 1:32:13Okay.
- 1:32:13Yeah.
- 1:32:13So then we ended up moving to another lot, which hopefully didn't im- I, I
- 1:32:17think it did impact some people being able to make it, which was kind of a bummer.
- 1:32:21Because they showed up to the, the spot that we had already planned
- 1:32:24and maybe didn't get the message- Oh, no… of, of the new spot.
- 1:32:27So, but, you know, things out of our control.
- 1:32:30Adam: Yeah.
- 1:32:31It was a, a angry Karen boss, that apparently got his little
- 1:32:35panties in a twist or, or something.
- 1:32:36So yeah, so
- 1:32:38Brandan: Tracy's like- I think it was a Niner fan, actually, just
- 1:32:39trying to make life hard on Tracy.
- 1:32:41Yeah.
- 1:32:41Adam: That, that, that, that tracks right there.
- 1:32:43So basically, all I'm gonna do here with my better at life, Brandan, is I'm just
- 1:32:46gonna expand it to the Twelves, man.
- 1:32:48Just even all of you that are… Amy, you're always better at life.
- 1:32:52Don't, don't do that to yourself.
- 1:32:54Brandan: You're- Just because Amy didn't make it.
- 1:32:56you know, she, she tried, and Adam's now including you- How many other-
- 1:32:59in this, the group of the rest of the Twelves.
- 1:33:02Adam: Yeah, and how many other times has Amy made it?
- 1:33:03Like, all-
- 1:33:04Brandan: Every time.
- 1:33:04Adam: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:33:06No, I will not accept… don't accept your, resignation
- 1:33:10and, not better at life nomination.
- 1:33:12I will not take it.
- 1:33:13So I'm just gonna expand this all the way to all the 12s, man.
- 1:33:16Like, look, when we got to the stadium and it filled in earlier than usual
- 1:33:23or at least it felt like to me.
- 1:33:24I- Oh, yeah
- 1:33:25Brandan: it was packed for the banner unveiling.
- 1:33:27Adam: Oh my- Packed… God.
- 1:33:28And it was [catfish] electric, and it was you guys.
- 1:33:33It was you guys.
- 1:33:34Like, the energy in the stadium as Cam got up there.
- 1:33:38G did a nice job, you know, doing his thing in bringing Cam up
- 1:33:42on stage, and getting ready for the, the banner to be unveiled.
- 1:33:46I was really excited to, like, film that so, I could have that as a memory
- 1:33:51forever, and I don't do that very often.
- 1:33:53missed it, 'cause it happened in a heartbeat.
- 1:33:56Thank God Brandan got it.
- 1:33:57I kept- I got your back… asking for the, for the video, but
- 1:33:59that, I'm gonna need that, bud.
- 1:34:00So just letting you know now.
- 1:34:02But, man, Sherm raising the flag, the F-15 screeching over our heads
- 1:34:07and the banking out of the stadium.
- 1:34:09Oh my God, it was unbelievable.
- 1:34:13And then throughout the game as we saw Sam get hurt and, like
- 1:34:16there was some adversity and all that, and we can watch the team and
- 1:34:19their resilience start to kick in.
- 1:34:21And kinda needing that energy in the 12s with their championship mentality
- 1:34:25and their resilience really bringing the energy and, like, ramping things up.
- 1:34:30By the time that game ended, man, if there had been a roof on Lumen, it'd be gone.
- 1:34:35Like, they would've blown it straight off.
- 1:34:37You 12s are amazing.
- 1:34:39What an amazing place to be with the best fan base in the world, to celebrate
- 1:34:45the beginning of running it forward.
- 1:34:47You guys are [catfish] fantastic.
- 1:34:50Every 12 that was there, every 12 yelling at their TV throughout the, the game
- 1:34:54you are better at life than Skip Bayless.
- 1:34:58Brandan: I'm just happy, Adam, that six days out, you, you've recovered.
- 1:35:03You, you sound like your normal self again.
- 1:35:05Dude.
- 1:35:05Because you sounded like a different person, the week or the day after
- 1:35:09the game, the evening after the game.
- 1:35:11And, yeah, I, I, we're back.
- 1:35:14I, I feel it.
- 1:35:15Adam: It…
- 1:35:16Look, man, when we're at the stadium, you have one job.
- 1:35:19You have one job.
- 1:35:20And that is to start making noise, and I'm gonna make a point of this
- 1:35:24all year, Jake, 'cause I'm trying to get this message out to as many
- 1:35:27people in the stadium as possible.
- 1:35:30If you have to save yourself for third down, I, I…
- 1:35:32That's fine.
- 1:35:33But if you, you can leave it all out on the field as a fan.
- 1:35:36Start on first down, but every time you start making noise, it's when
- 1:35:40the quarterback gets into the huddle.
- 1:35:42That's where you can affect it the most.
- 1:35:44Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:35:44Adam: Right?
- 1:35:45And really, I thought the 12s did a banger job at that throughout the thing.
- 1:35:49And yeah, man, I left it all out on the field.
- 1:35:52I sounded like, I, I was back at about 13 years old and
- 1:35:56all squeaky there for a couple days, but man, it was worth it.
- 1:36:00Brandan: Look, if I had known that it was going to be that intense in the fourth
- 1:36:04quarter, I, I think I would've taken some plays off earlier on in the game
- 1:36:09just to save myself, because it was all I could do to leave it all out there at the
- 1:36:13stadium, toward the end of the game.
- 1:36:16Adam: It's not like you weren't, you know, not the same, sultry
- 1:36:20baritone that you are, normally after that game, 'cause you weren't.
- 1:36:24You weren't that guy anymore.
- 1:36:25Brandan: I wasn't, no.
- 1:36:25For
- 1:36:25Adam: a couple days.
- 1:36:26Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:36:26No.
- 1:36:27But it's fine.
- 1:36:27I had a great time.
- 1:36:29Charlie the Unicorns, they had F-15s.
- 1:36:30They're from Oregon National Guard, here to entertain you.
- 1:36:33They were awesome.
- 1:36:35Adam: They nailed it.
- 1:36:36They nailed it.
- 1:36:37Yeah, man.
- 1:36:37And man, when those things rip overhead, overhead, oh my God.
- 1:36:42Oh, it was cool, man.
- 1:36:43I, but I, I'm a nerd for, you know, Air Force, so.
- 1:36:46Brandan: You're a nerd for space.
- 1:36:47You're a nerd for airplanes.
- 1:36:49You're
- 1:36:50- Adam: Yeah, I'm a nerd for birds… all
- 1:36:50Brandan: the nerd
- 1:36:51Adam: things.
- 1:36:51Yeah.
- 1:36:51Yeah, exactly.
- 1:36:52Just put it in the air, I'm pretty excited about it.
- 1:36:54Hot air balloons are sweet.
- 1:36:55Yeah.
- 1:36:55Brandan: One-handed Cooper Kupp catches, you're here for that, too.
- 1:36:59Adam: I am, yeah.
- 1:37:01And, you know, a, a lot of golf buffs- Just
- 1:37:03Brandan: trying to th- come up with things that were in the
- 1:37:05air and that, that came to mind.
- 1:37:07Adam: That's right.
- 1:37:07Drake Maye's, legacy, it was up in the air.
- 1:37:11It came crashing down, I applauded.
- 1:37:13yeah.
- 1:37:15It was cool.
- 1:37:16Brandan: Great showing.
- 1:37:17appreciate all the 12s.
- 1:37:19Amy says, "OMG," and, "Shut the F up on offense."
- 1:37:23there…
- 1:37:24I thought that it was pretty good.
- 1:37:25There, there were a few chants.
- 1:37:26I don't think it impacted, it too much, but yeah.
- 1:37:30I, I think you just have…
- 1:37:32You know, we just need people like you, Amy, to coach people up in
- 1:37:35in the stands and say, you know…
- 1:37:37And y- maybe the gentle type of coaching like, "Hey, you know
- 1:37:40maybe this is your first game, but we need to be cool on offense."
- 1:37:43We- Yeah… when our team's out there on offense, we gotta, we gotta be chill.
- 1:37:47Adam: There was a few folks, you know, more than I, I would
- 1:37:50imagine that the offense would like, that, you know, like a
- 1:37:53fourth and two or whatever it was.
- 1:37:55And you're just excited, you know?
- 1:37:57So, like, I can get, like, that you're, you're getting
- 1:38:00loud and you're just excited.
- 1:38:01But, like, just a little situational awareness.
- 1:38:03It's all we need there, you know?
- 1:38:05And, they'll come along.
- 1:38:07They'll come along.
- 1:38:08And it…
- 1:38:08You know what?
- 1:38:09Maybe it's some of the newer fans, too, and if that's the case, no worries
- 1:38:12we'll hold your hand, we'll point you through the right direction, and
- 1:38:14you're gonna be 12-ing like a boss, you know, after we lift our second
- 1:38:18Lombardi here in just,- Oh
- 1:38:19Brandan: that's a good point
- 1:38:20a few months… because yes, w- we did…
- 1:38:22It's very possible that we gained some new fans in the off-season, because they
- 1:38:27saw what we did, winnin' the Super Bowl.
- 1:38:29They saw us through the off-season kickin' butt, and then we go on
- 1:38:34Hard Knocks lookin' awesome and we got people goin', "You know what?
- 1:38:38I, I think I'm a Seahawks fan now, and now I'm gonna go to
- 1:38:40games, and now I'm gonna cheer.
- 1:38:42I, I may not know the right time to cheer, but I, I know that 12s are
- 1:38:45loud, and so I'm gonna be loud."
- 1:38:47Adam: That's right.
- 1:38:48And you know, if, if, if there's somebody that's a little, off on
- 1:38:51their situational awareness there, we don't have to be mean about it, right?
- 1:38:54Like, we can just be like, "Hey, man," like, "Save yourself."
- 1:38:57Like, this is a time they need a little quiet.
- 1:38:58But we're all good, bud.
- 1:39:00Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:39:00We're gonna need you.
- 1:39:01We'll rip it
- 1:39:01Adam: together.
- 1:39:01Brandan: We're, we're gonna need you- We're gonna rip it-… when
- 1:39:03the Seahawks are- Yeah… w- when the, the offense, the opposing
- 1:39:06offense is in their huddle, and then we can make all the noise.
- 1:39:09Adam: That's right, and then we're gonna rip it together on that third down.
- 1:39:12We're gonna help the Seahawks go and just smother the life out of another
- 1:39:16team as they chalk up another victory, as they run it forward, as we go
- 1:39:21back to SoFi Stadium and win another chip at another rival's stadium.
- 1:39:26I can't wait for it, man.
- 1:39:27Let's go.
- 1:39:29Brandan: And I think with that-
- 1:39:30Adam: There's only one thing left to say
- 1:39:32Brandan: go Hawks.
- 1:39:33Adam: Go Hawks.
