- 0:02Speaker 1: Here comes the outlaw, Kevin Kiermeyer, recently retired from the sport,
- 0:06Speaker 1: one of the best to watch manning the outfield just
- 0:09Speaker 1: like Kevin Plart.
- 0:10Speaker 2: This is cool for me.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We got the two Kevin that dominated the highlights for
- 0:13Speaker 1: like a decade.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Kk.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Great to have you on the show here for the
- 0:17Speaker 1: first time. Congrats on retirement and how you doing. Man,
- 0:20Speaker 1: how's retired life?
- 0:23Speaker 2: I'm good, thanks for having me. By the way, retired
- 0:26Speaker 2: life is good. A little slow, a little slow, but good.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I'm a dad of three now. I had my daughter
- 0:31Speaker 2: last December, so this whole year I was super busy
- 0:34Speaker 2: and kind of all over and I'm someone who has
- 0:37Speaker 2: like severe ADHD, so I need variety and to switch
- 0:41Speaker 2: things up. So as long as I'm on the go,
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'm in a good place. But once again, I definitely
- 0:47Speaker 2: missed the adrenaline, and you know, I missed baseball a ton.
- 0:51Speaker 2: But I'm right where I need to be and life
- 0:54Speaker 2: is good. So I'm figuring out life after baseball and
- 0:57Speaker 2: trying to get creative with a couple of things. So
- 1:00Speaker 2: I'm a lucky man.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Before we get to your creativity and your like job
- 1:05Speaker 3: movement creation that you're that you're trying to come up
- 1:09Speaker 3: with here, I gotta say, I played with KP. I
- 1:12Speaker 3: played with Kevin, the cool Kevin, and I played with
- 1:15Speaker 3: the good looking Kevin. Is you now you're better looking
- 1:20Speaker 3: because you got the gold gloves? But I know that
- 1:24Speaker 3: burns KP up inside? So is there any way you
- 1:27Speaker 3: could get like a little mini gold glove for KP? Like,
- 1:31Speaker 3: because I feel like I think I forget what year
- 1:33Speaker 3: twenty sixteen, he gave you a run for your money
- 1:37Speaker 3: and you still took it from him, Like, is there
- 1:39Speaker 3: any way you can give my guy because all he
- 1:41Speaker 3: was getting was like the Wilson Defensive Player of the
- 1:44Speaker 3: Year and that's like it's like a cool second place trophy.
- 1:47Speaker 3: So can you help my guy out a little bit?
- 1:51Speaker 2: You know? I knew I was gonna win it, Like
- 1:53Speaker 2: in fifteen, I had my best year ever in one
- 1:57Speaker 2: Platinum that season and then that that created like like
- 2:01Speaker 2: a different monster in me where I said, I I'm
- 2:03Speaker 2: going to win this thing for until further notice type thing.
- 2:07Speaker 2: And sixteen I got hurt. I shattered my left hand
- 2:13Speaker 2: and I went on the sixty day and that was
- 2:16Speaker 2: like May and the gold Glove thing, It's like the
- 2:21Speaker 2: way the voting goes and all that, it's like you
- 2:22Speaker 2: have to have a certain amount of innings and time
- 2:28Speaker 2: played before, like August twentieth or something like that. It's
- 2:32Speaker 2: close to that might not be spot on, but it's
- 2:33Speaker 2: something along those guidelines. And once again like whenever you
- 2:38Speaker 2: win this award, it's it's something that you want to
- 2:40Speaker 2: win forever. And me, I was a defensive guy, and
- 2:43Speaker 2: it's like, look, if I handle my business and stay
- 2:46Speaker 2: on the field, then I think this is my award
- 2:49Speaker 2: to lose type of thing. Now. With that being said,
- 2:51Speaker 2: though I knew Pilar was always in Toronto, Jackie Bradley
- 2:55Speaker 2: in Boston and trout out there like it was, it
- 2:58Speaker 2: always seemed like it was like this same guys who
- 3:00Speaker 2: were kind of in the running for it. And that
- 3:02Speaker 2: was the year where I did not think I was
- 3:04Speaker 2: gonna win just because of my time missed. And I
- 3:09Speaker 2: would have totally understood that, but you know, I wanted
- 3:12Speaker 2: and I was thrilled about that. But I definitely know
- 3:15Speaker 2: why kp was, you know, not not thrilled about that.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Had every right to be upset, and he pro I
- 3:23Speaker 2: don't off top of my head, I don't know how
- 3:24Speaker 2: many games you played that year, but I feel like
- 3:26Speaker 2: you were always playing one fifty plus and that's something
- 3:30Speaker 2: I'm very envious of. And I wasn't on the field
- 3:32Speaker 2: as much as I would have liked to. But with
- 3:35Speaker 2: that being said, I don't I don't have a little
- 3:37Speaker 2: gold Glove award. But he was amazing out there and
- 3:41Speaker 2: his highlights and just playing against him nineteen times a
- 3:44Speaker 2: year within the Al East was always fun and it
- 3:47Speaker 2: motivated me. And you know, I wanted to run the
- 3:50Speaker 2: bass hard and I hit the ball to him and
- 3:52Speaker 2: I'm sure he tried doing the same to me. But
- 3:54Speaker 2: it was always a fun little competition and the ALE
- 3:57Speaker 2: East always had plenty of that. And that's why I
- 4:00Speaker 2: was so thankful to come up in that league for
- 4:02Speaker 2: so long, because the players that I played against over
- 4:06Speaker 2: and over, year after year, it was a blessing.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I think there's this kind of running joke that me
- 4:14Speaker 4: and him didn't like each other. We really never really
- 4:17Speaker 4: crossed pass. I think maybe the one time when we
- 4:20Speaker 4: got David Price, Toronto got David Price. I think he
- 4:23Speaker 4: introduced this to each other, but it was all friendly.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I wouldn't even say friendly competition. I think we kind
- 4:28Speaker 4: of motivated each other to be our best. I obviously
- 4:32Speaker 4: wanted to win some awards. He won the awards, but
- 4:35Speaker 4: I don't think any less of what I was able
- 4:37Speaker 4: to accomplish. He motivated me every time I went on
- 4:41Speaker 4: the field. I watched him make plays. I watched the highlights.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I wanted to one up them. I think we kind
- 4:45Speaker 4: of motivated each other. But I guess the main reason
- 4:49Speaker 4: you're on is you came out and talked about wanting
- 4:51Speaker 4: to kind of change the landscape of outfield play. And
- 4:55Speaker 4: no better a guy to learn from than you. But
- 4:58Speaker 4: I guess my first question is you got draft in
- 5:00Speaker 4: twenty ten. Tell me a little bit about your scouting report,
- 5:03Speaker 4: your skill set, and then how you kind of developed
- 5:06Speaker 4: into the outfielder you became.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I was raw forever, never wanted to play pro ball.
- 5:11Speaker 2: I just wanted to go play D one like that
- 5:14Speaker 2: was my goal. And I wanted to go to Purdue.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I'm wrapping my boilers today. I wanted to go to
- 5:19Speaker 2: Purdue and I wasn't good enough out of high school.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Didn't get good enough grades either. I gotta throw that
- 5:24Speaker 2: in there, be accountable for that. But I went to
- 5:27Speaker 2: JUCO called Parkland and Champagne, Illinois. Had no idea what
- 5:32Speaker 2: to expect, but it was the best thing that ever
- 5:33Speaker 2: happened to me. In one one night before my Christmas break,
- 5:37Speaker 2: going home back to Indiana for a month, there was
- 5:39Speaker 2: a scout in our gym. I had no idea. I
- 5:41Speaker 2: thought it was someone's grandpa, honestly, and he was there
- 5:44Speaker 2: watching a teammate of mine. And then after the practice
- 5:47Speaker 2: he came up to me. It's the guy who signed me.
- 5:49Speaker 2: His name's Tom Cousten. But he gave me a card
- 5:52Speaker 2: like his business card in it, and he's like, I
- 5:54Speaker 2: love the way you look, I love the way you move.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Will be in touch. You can play. And it was
- 5:59Speaker 2: a life chain moment for me, and it was like
- 6:01Speaker 2: a surge of motivation that I like, at that moment,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I wanted to be a professional baseball player fastward like
- 6:10Speaker 2: I was raw. I was an All American both years,
- 6:12Speaker 2: and like started to hit for the first time ever. Thankfully,
- 6:15Speaker 2: the metal bats back in the day were amazing, and
- 6:17Speaker 2: I was hitting homers and all this stuff, and I
- 6:22Speaker 2: was told I was going to get drafted eight to
- 6:23Speaker 2: fifteenth round, so I had a draft party, like that
- 6:26Speaker 2: second day of the draft, my name never got called.
- 6:29Speaker 2: My buddies were over like drinking, playing woof the ball,
- 6:31Speaker 2: and I'm sitting here at the phone the whole time,
- 6:33Speaker 2: never got that call. And sure enough, like the third
- 6:36Speaker 2: day of the draft, rounds thirty one through fifty, my
- 6:39Speaker 2: name gets called. And I was alone, so no one knew.
- 6:41Speaker 2: But you know, for me, it was like all I
- 6:43Speaker 2: need is opportunity. I'm ready to play. I'm the youngest
- 6:45Speaker 2: celebor by right now, and I'm not much of a
- 6:48Speaker 2: school guy, and i want to go throw all my
- 6:51Speaker 2: eggs in one basket. Even though I'm a thirty first rounder.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I'm going to make this work, and I'm going to
- 6:55Speaker 2: make the big leagues.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Krats, we picked you to talk about not just because
- 7:01Speaker 1: they're ridiculously comfortable, but also because they are very festive.
- 7:06Speaker 1: When the holiday season hits, you go on the website
- 7:09Speaker 1: and there are just so many more designs to check out,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and they just scream. Eric Kratz getting little matching sets
- 7:16Speaker 1: with everybody that he knows.
- 7:19Speaker 3: You know what. They're called me undies, not you undies.
- 7:22Speaker 3: So you go in and you say, this one's for me,
- 7:25Speaker 3: this set is for me. This is what is good
- 7:28Speaker 3: for me, not you Undies, me Undies, a lot of
- 7:31Speaker 3: different ones that choose from.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'm so confused, But what I do know is that
- 7:35Speaker 1: you can knock out all of your holiday gifting needs
- 7:38Speaker 1: today with me undies and to get the exclusive holiday
- 7:41Speaker 1: deals up to fifty percent off meyundies dot com slash
- 7:44Speaker 1: foul enter promo code foul. That's me undies dot com
- 7:48Speaker 1: slash foul promo code is foul for up to fifty
- 7:53Speaker 1: percent off matching holiday prints with your person. You can't
- 7:57Speaker 1: beat that.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Rarely on this show? Can we have somebody that got
- 8:02Speaker 3: drafted after me? That was a twenty ninth round, so
- 8:05Speaker 3: I know, I know what that third day sounds like
- 8:07Speaker 3: and it just gets passed over. I love that. Who
- 8:10Speaker 3: was the person for you?
- 8:11Speaker 2: Who?
- 8:12Speaker 3: Because you said you were wrong? You came into the
- 8:13Speaker 3: Ray's organization and you know, playing for the Phillies, the Yankees,
- 8:18Speaker 3: the Blue Jays, we were always playing the Ray's minor
- 8:21Speaker 3: league system and everything coming up? Who was that guy
- 8:23Speaker 3: for you? And I want to kind of take that
- 8:26Speaker 3: and transition it into your unique like job job search
- 8:31Speaker 3: that you have, and like, how is that how is
- 8:34Speaker 3: that learning process to become Because you don't just become
- 8:37Speaker 3: a goal glover, a platinum glover.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Yep, it's a good question. I didn't really emulate anyone,
- 8:46Speaker 2: uh so to say, but I watched. I watch like
- 8:49Speaker 2: Jim Edmonds is one that sticks out. Adam Jones for
- 8:51Speaker 2: the Orioles all the years. Like love watching him play
- 8:55Speaker 2: Tory Hunter. I just I love getting on YouTube and
- 8:58Speaker 2: like watching what the best of the best do. And
- 9:00Speaker 2: for me, I knew that hitting was always so hard
- 9:05Speaker 2: to me, so freaking hard, and it drove me nuts.
- 9:07Speaker 2: And I knew defense was going to be my calling
- 9:10Speaker 2: card and I was like, man, I think I can
- 9:12Speaker 2: be incredible at this because I always felt like I
- 9:15Speaker 2: was super athletic, and I always was like obsessed with
- 9:19Speaker 2: working on my craft in my arm and how to
- 9:21Speaker 2: throw harder and more accurate and get faster, like I
- 9:24Speaker 2: had all these things bubbling, and then shortly into my
- 9:27Speaker 2: minor league career, like just the way I did drills
- 9:29Speaker 2: and did batting practice, I feel like that is what
- 9:32Speaker 2: made me so good because I was testing myself every
- 9:35Speaker 2: day and then like training my eyes to get reads
- 9:37Speaker 2: on the ball. And I feel like when I was
- 9:39Speaker 2: in Lowa twenty eleven, I was like, I know, I'm
- 9:45Speaker 2: so far away from the big leagues, but I feel
- 9:46Speaker 2: like defensively and who what I had? The highlights I
- 9:49Speaker 2: see on TV and whatnot, I feel like no one
- 9:52Speaker 2: can make the plays that I can, or cover the
- 9:55Speaker 2: ground and control the game the way I can. That
- 9:58Speaker 2: was a young, clueless minor leaguer, but I always had
- 10:02Speaker 2: that confidence in that mindset that I wanted to be
- 10:05Speaker 2: great at it, and like even my minor league, my
- 10:08Speaker 2: minor league numbers were insane, and then like shortly after that,
- 10:13Speaker 2: where I'm like, look, i can't wait to show people
- 10:15Speaker 2: when I get to like double A and TRIPLEA, where
- 10:18Speaker 2: I can show people what I can do because I'm
- 10:20Speaker 2: making plays every night, like at like fifteen outfield assists
- 10:23Speaker 2: every year my minor league career. I'm just like, man,
- 10:25Speaker 2: I feel like I don't have a weakness out here,
- 10:27Speaker 2: and I can't wait to become the player I want
- 10:30Speaker 2: to be up in the big league so I can
- 10:32Speaker 2: show everybody what I can do in all facets of
- 10:34Speaker 2: the game, but especially defense, where I just felt like
- 10:37Speaker 2: I've been different for a long time and those are
- 10:40Speaker 2: the like defense gave me confidence within the whole game
- 10:43Speaker 2: and it's like, look, even though I can, I'll struggle
- 10:45Speaker 2: with the bat this and that. I feel like I'm
- 10:48Speaker 2: the best out here. My pitchers want me, and I
- 10:50Speaker 2: was always confident in that regard. And it's nice to
- 10:53Speaker 2: have confidence when you're playing the big leagues because if
- 10:55Speaker 2: you don't, the game's already hard enough. So for me,
- 10:57Speaker 2: like I always like defense, just help me on the field.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Then you know, off the field as well. It kind
- 11:03Speaker 2: of paved everything for me in my life.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean we talked, you know, when I reached
- 11:11Speaker 4: out to get you on the show, we spent a
- 11:13Speaker 4: little time kind of catching up and talking. I don't
- 11:15Speaker 4: want you to give away kind of your secret sauce
- 11:18Speaker 4: because you know, going back to you kind of reaching
- 11:21Speaker 4: out to all these teams saying you can make these
- 11:23Speaker 4: outfielders better. Share with us what you feel comfortable sharing
- 11:27Speaker 4: in terms of how you think you can help these
- 11:30Speaker 4: organizations without giving away the KK kind of secret sauce.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, So for me, like I'm obsessed with this,
- 11:41Speaker 2: I've been obsessed with it forever. And what I realized,
- 11:44Speaker 2: like when you're working with people, coaches or instructors, whatever,
- 11:47Speaker 2: it always helps for players. For one, for someone who's
- 11:50Speaker 2: been there, done that, but for someone who loves it
- 11:53Speaker 2: as much as what I do. And this whole year
- 11:55Speaker 2: I was like, you know, I want to see if
- 11:56Speaker 2: I can be as good of a coach as I
- 11:58Speaker 2: think I can, and all the things that I kind
- 12:01Speaker 2: of learned and developed on my own, I feel like
- 12:03Speaker 2: I can help players as well, because they might be
- 12:06Speaker 2: like a thought or a mindset away from unlocking defensive potential.
- 12:11Speaker 2: So for me, even throughout the minor leagues, like I
- 12:15Speaker 2: watch house, my teammates and other guys did drills on
- 12:18Speaker 2: them backfields and spring training and how guys shagg VP
- 12:21Speaker 2: and then throughout the course of the season as well,
- 12:23Speaker 2: And I'm sitting here thinking, man, I understand why certain
- 12:28Speaker 2: guys are the defenders they are because they don't do
- 12:32Speaker 2: they don't practice game speed or like stay like work
- 12:35Speaker 2: on their craft and stay sharp way that I feel
- 12:38Speaker 2: like I was doing so for me once again, I
- 12:42Speaker 2: like when I came into PROBI, I was already a
- 12:44Speaker 2: good outfielder, but the steps that I took throughout my
- 12:47Speaker 2: whole career made me who I was. And I'm like, man,
- 12:50Speaker 2: no one loves this morning me, and no one is
- 12:52Speaker 2: willing to outwork or stay keep their body in shape
- 12:56Speaker 2: to perform at this level. So that's half the battle.
- 12:59Speaker 2: So for me, what I am really good at is
- 13:02Speaker 2: creating a mindset for these guys and be like, hey,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I know you you hit homers and do this and that,
- 13:07Speaker 2: but I want you to sit here and want the
- 13:10Speaker 2: team to trust you to be out there for twenty
- 13:12Speaker 2: seven outs instead of coming out in the eighth or
- 13:14Speaker 2: ninth inning when your team's up two or three. Like,
- 13:16Speaker 2: I want guys to be out there and have that
- 13:19Speaker 2: confidence out there in the outfield, the same as you
- 13:22Speaker 2: know the dudes who crush and have that confidence in
- 13:24Speaker 2: the batter's box. But the way we do drills game
- 13:29Speaker 2: speed and the way we shag BP and and just
- 13:32Speaker 2: how I can like break down balls at the wall
- 13:35Speaker 2: and sliding plays like just my insight and the things
- 13:39Speaker 2: that you know, you're just trying to make it make
- 13:41Speaker 2: sense type of thing. And for me, I feel like
- 13:44Speaker 2: there are so many drills that are still done to
- 13:46Speaker 2: this day that are just eyewash and they're not getting
- 13:49Speaker 2: guys better. It's like I'm going to do the things.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I'm going to have you guys do the things that
- 13:53Speaker 2: are going to be here and it's gonna like you're
- 13:55Speaker 2: going to see it every day. But throwing program, I said,
- 13:58Speaker 2: drill work certain speed, and because a lot of times
- 14:03Speaker 2: in KP were I was telling you about this in
- 14:05Speaker 2: text last week. But I'm like, man, if guys go
- 14:08Speaker 2: and do a drill forty to sixty percent over and over,
- 14:12Speaker 2: it's like you're you're conditioning your body to know that speed.
- 14:15Speaker 2: And then when the game happens and you got to
- 14:18Speaker 2: charge the ball and chop your feet and keep the
- 14:20Speaker 2: momentum going forward to throw someone out at home. This
- 14:22Speaker 2: is the first time that player has like practice or
- 14:26Speaker 2: had this play happen where they need one hundred percent
- 14:29Speaker 2: effort and they and it's just like not it's like
- 14:34Speaker 2: foreign to them because they're not used to it. And
- 14:36Speaker 2: you see how plays get sped up on certain guys.
- 14:38Speaker 2: So for me, I feel like if you sit here
- 14:41Speaker 2: and practice a certain way it gets it'll show on
- 14:45Speaker 2: the field because if I can teach these guys to
- 14:47Speaker 2: operate one hundred percent and do everything game speed, and
- 14:50Speaker 2: there's no adjustment when the light's turn on to the game,
- 14:53Speaker 2: when guys have to like turn it on once seven
- 14:55Speaker 2: o'clock starts and say, okay, now I need to go
- 14:57Speaker 2: one hundred percent. I think those are the guys who
- 15:00Speaker 2: are susceptible to uh not being the best out footers,
- 15:04Speaker 2: are getting the best jumps or you know, all the
- 15:06Speaker 2: little things that matter for being great out there. And
- 15:10Speaker 2: that's where I said, you know, you plugged me in
- 15:12Speaker 2: and have these guys do it the proper way, then
- 15:14Speaker 2: you get so much more out of players and see
- 15:17Speaker 2: what kind of defensive potential we can maximize if we
- 15:21Speaker 2: go about it and prep the right way.
- 15:24Speaker 3: KK first of all, comment, then a question. Comment, And
- 15:27Speaker 3: my son is a junior in high school. He's a
- 15:29Speaker 3: center fielder. So I'm gonna need your I'm gonna need
- 15:31Speaker 3: your number from KP after this so you can get
- 15:34Speaker 3: you can get you can get my guy going out
- 15:36Speaker 3: there because you know, I ain't teaching no mobility nothing.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I'm squatting behind the plate. And he's good looking like you,
- 15:44Speaker 3: so it's it's good. But my question is I want
- 15:47Speaker 3: you to put yourself back in your shoes as a player.
- 15:50Speaker 3: And this is where what you were saying when you
- 15:53Speaker 3: put posted it on Twitter and Instagram and everything about
- 15:55Speaker 3: being a coach for different Orgs. What would you do
- 15:58Speaker 3: if the outfield coach from the Yankees came over and
- 16:02Speaker 3: was like, KK, I'm working with you these three days
- 16:05Speaker 3: in spring training and then yo, I'm going over to Dunedin.
- 16:09Speaker 3: I'm gonna be working with the J's for like three
- 16:12Speaker 3: days next weekend. How do you feel like you can
- 16:15Speaker 3: navigate that without it being a like, you know, come
- 16:19Speaker 3: to kk's camp, come to kk's outfield off season camp
- 16:23Speaker 3: type of thing. Because when you said it, we even
- 16:26Speaker 3: said it on the show here. Aj said a little
- 16:30Speaker 3: worse words than I did, but we were kind of like,
- 16:33Speaker 3: I don't know how this is gonna work because you can't.
- 16:36Speaker 3: You can't work with the Rays and then expect somebody
- 16:39Speaker 3: with the Red Sox to listen to you. Also, no
- 16:41Speaker 3: matter how much of a g you are at what
- 16:44Speaker 3: you teach.
- 16:46Speaker 2: So that's where I'm going to disagree with you right there,
- 16:48Speaker 2: because my phone has been blowing up and I will
- 16:53Speaker 2: be going out to a Z in Florida. I will
- 16:55Speaker 2: like after a week of this already, like it's already
- 16:59Speaker 2: it's taken off, just like I knew it would. And
- 17:01Speaker 2: I know for me, like I never go by the book, man,
- 17:03Speaker 2: I'm creative and even like the job I held the
- 17:07Speaker 2: Blue Jays last year, I'm like, if they agree to this,
- 17:10Speaker 2: it's gonna be great. And they did and it was
- 17:12Speaker 2: great for both sides. But for me, it's just like
- 17:16Speaker 2: you know, all I said, like people go and see
- 17:18Speaker 2: a hitting coach in the offseason and whatever. You don't
- 17:20Speaker 2: have to be like within your organization. But there's so
- 17:23Speaker 2: many guys who I just feel like they're never around
- 17:26Speaker 2: the right person to like take that next step defensively,
- 17:29Speaker 2: and that's all I have to offer. Like I'm not
- 17:31Speaker 2: in batting cages telling guys how to hit. I know
- 17:34Speaker 2: I stayed in my lane, but with this, it's one
- 17:39Speaker 2: of those things. Even like back in the day, we
- 17:41Speaker 2: had a mental skills guy. His name is Vince Lodado
- 17:43Speaker 2: and he worked with five or other teams, and it's
- 17:45Speaker 2: not like he's in the meeting rooms with other teams
- 17:48Speaker 2: give an insight intel. I don't care about that. I
- 17:50Speaker 2: don't I'm not gonna be anywhere around that type of stuff.
- 17:54Speaker 2: It's just I want teams to view It's like, hey,
- 17:57Speaker 2: if you got a chance to work with one of
- 17:58Speaker 2: the best that what they did, why would you not
- 18:01Speaker 2: take advantage of this type of thing, and once again
- 18:04Speaker 2: I put that out there. I wanted to get the
- 18:06Speaker 2: word out and just see what kind of buzz I
- 18:09Speaker 2: could get from it. And my phone's been ringing off
- 18:11Speaker 2: the hook from teams and like guys wanted to reach
- 18:14Speaker 2: out individually. And I have that leverage where it's going
- 18:18Speaker 2: to sound so cocky and arrogant, but I'm I'm one
- 18:20Speaker 2: of the best ever to play the position from a
- 18:23Speaker 2: defensive standpoint, and I cracked the code and know what
- 18:27Speaker 2: to do, and I just I need to be around
- 18:29Speaker 2: just for a little bit of time and just help,
- 18:31Speaker 2: Like I just want to help, and that's it. I
- 18:33Speaker 2: don't want to be necessarily tied to organizations this year.
- 18:38Speaker 2: And I know I saw what aj Persienci said and
- 18:42Speaker 2: I saved that video and I'm going to tell like
- 18:45Speaker 2: it was funny, but I'm doing it. I already know
- 18:47Speaker 2: it's going to happen, and you know, I can say
- 18:50Speaker 2: that I'm going to be the first to do it
- 18:51Speaker 2: in this regard, but sometimes you just got to shoot
- 18:54Speaker 2: your shot. And for me, like the calls I've had
- 18:58Speaker 2: with teams so far, it's just one of the things
- 19:00Speaker 2: I'm like, look, I question player development, because every year
- 19:04Speaker 2: in spring training you hear from teams over and over saying, Hey,
- 19:07Speaker 2: we're gonna we're gonna hire the best people, We're going
- 19:10Speaker 2: to get the best equipment and do this, this and
- 19:12Speaker 2: that to give you guys the best chance of being
- 19:14Speaker 2: big leaguers and make you the best players we can be,
- 19:16Speaker 2: which I call BS on that in so many ways
- 19:21Speaker 2: because I don't think they mean that when they say that.
- 19:24Speaker 2: But in my situation, I say, Hey, if teams don't
- 19:28Speaker 2: want to reach out to me and use my services
- 19:33Speaker 2: to their advantage for their players, then so be it.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Like they already know that there's teams out there who
- 19:38Speaker 2: are trying to compete next year, and there's teams who
- 19:41Speaker 2: are not. I'm not trying to get off track, but
- 19:43Speaker 2: the teams who've reached out to me already are the
- 19:45Speaker 2: teams who are probably going to have a successful twenty
- 19:50Speaker 2: twenty six type of thing. And you know there's certain
- 19:53Speaker 2: players in your organization that might need to take that
- 19:56Speaker 2: next step defensively. And that's where, like I said, I
- 20:00Speaker 2: for like my expertises, and I feel like I'm I'm
- 20:03Speaker 2: the best at coaching it. Even after a year into
- 20:06Speaker 2: this and I have an ability to break so many
- 20:09Speaker 2: different things down other than like a surface sea level,
- 20:12Speaker 2: which a lot of coaching can be nowadays, which is okay,
- 20:15Speaker 2: But this is what I want to do, and like
- 20:19Speaker 2: I said, I'm going to do it. And I've had
- 20:22Speaker 2: a ton ton of calls already and it's been a blast.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I need something to chase again. I need something to
- 20:27Speaker 2: motivate me. And I've always had great satisfaction helping guys
- 20:31Speaker 2: out along the way, and now I can kind of
- 20:33Speaker 2: do that more on a full time basis without having
- 20:37Speaker 2: to worry about anything for my career. I just I
- 20:39Speaker 2: want to help anyone and everyone who wants to get
- 20:41Speaker 2: better and wants to be around me.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Well, Cratzy made a great point, because there's things out
- 20:48Speaker 4: there like tight End Camp. So OKK, if you start
- 20:50Speaker 4: your center field camp, you got my number, I'd love
- 20:53Speaker 4: to come out and help out. It'd actually be kind
- 20:55Speaker 4: of a cool thing, you know something. Yeah, this is
- 20:58Speaker 4: need something to kind of motivate you and Chase. I
- 21:00Speaker 4: think it's a great thing.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, this is just the start. I said. I want
- 21:04Speaker 2: to revolutionize it, and I know the things that I'm
- 21:06Speaker 2: going to do with certain guys can can do just that,
- 21:08Speaker 2: I promise you. And when I am in a z
- 21:12Speaker 2: and Florida spring training, I'm going to send a video
- 21:14Speaker 2: to AJ Prazinski because, like I said, I know, I
- 21:18Speaker 2: know he said what he said, but and it doesn't
- 21:21Speaker 2: seem like it's possible. But once again, like I'm very
- 21:25Speaker 2: creative and I have that leverage where certain player development
- 21:28Speaker 2: people are gonna want me to be around their players
- 21:30Speaker 2: and for me being around the game so long, once again,
- 21:34Speaker 2: I know where I need to be on the facility.
- 21:36Speaker 2: I know which fields and I know where to bounce
- 21:38Speaker 2: around and not over like over. I don't know what
- 21:43Speaker 2: word I'm trying to say. I'm not trying to abuse anything,
- 21:47Speaker 2: And I said, I want the teams to treat me
- 21:49Speaker 2: for the five days or whatever I'm around as if
- 21:51Speaker 2: I'm employed, because I'm going to give those players everything
- 21:55Speaker 2: I got. I don't care if it's low A, big
- 21:57Speaker 2: leagues wherever I go out at once, that's all I know,
- 22:01Speaker 2: and we're just gonna see what happens with it.
- 22:05Speaker 4: I'm gonna throw you a quick curveball here. We have
- 22:06Speaker 4: a lot of similarities in our career. I'm recently retired.
- 22:10Speaker 4: You've had a full year of retirement. Do you ever
- 22:13Speaker 4: sit at home because I get these feelings sometimes and
- 22:15Speaker 4: I like or when I watch games, I watch the
- 22:18Speaker 4: way people hit or the pay way people work. You
- 22:20Speaker 4: ever sit at home and think about, like, damn, I
- 22:22Speaker 4: wish I would have done something different offensively and where
- 22:25Speaker 4: your career kind of trajectory would have gone. Because I
- 22:28Speaker 4: get those feelings all the time.
- 22:30Speaker 2: The hills all the time, man all the time I
- 22:33Speaker 2: and most of it is offensively where I was like man,
- 22:37Speaker 2: I and there's no way to justify this. There's no
- 22:40Speaker 2: way anyone took more swings from twenty ten to twenty
- 22:43Speaker 2: twenty four than me. Not that or it's not even impressive.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I drove myself crazy my whole career trying to unlock
- 22:51Speaker 2: my offensive potential, and I always felt like I was
- 22:53Speaker 2: on my way, and each and every night I took
- 22:56Speaker 2: the field, I feel like I did everything to get
- 22:58Speaker 2: myself the best chance at success. But I go back
- 23:02Speaker 2: and look at video or certain at bats, and I'm
- 23:04Speaker 2: just like, goly, what in the world was I doing
- 23:06Speaker 2: right there? So could it would have should have? But
- 23:10Speaker 2: hitting I don't know. Man, I feel like the the
- 23:14Speaker 2: less I knew about it and mechanics and all that,
- 23:16Speaker 2: the better I was. And then I just I dug
- 23:19Speaker 2: so deep into it and went down so many rabbit
- 23:21Speaker 2: holes and tried so many different things and then everything
- 23:24Speaker 2: like I tried so many hundreds of stances, and and uh,
- 23:28Speaker 2: I feel like I just got comfortable with doing things
- 23:32Speaker 2: that were not mechanically or technically right, and that was
- 23:35Speaker 2: what was comfortable to me. And then you sit around
- 23:38Speaker 2: and watch other great hitters and what they do, and
- 23:40Speaker 2: I'm like, man, I can't even do that on a
- 23:42Speaker 2: on a dry swing. So yeah, a lot of that
- 23:45Speaker 2: could it would have should have. But you know, we
- 23:48Speaker 2: had long enough, or I had a long enough time
- 23:50Speaker 2: to make those adjustments and be better. And once again,
- 23:53Speaker 2: every night, I feel like I gave myself the best
- 23:54Speaker 2: possible chance. But looking back on I know I could
- 23:57Speaker 2: have been so much better than what I was, and
- 24:00Speaker 2: you know it is what it is, all right.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Last one probably a shorter answer, but I'm not gonna
- 24:05Speaker 3: see if you can tell KP doesn't like you because
- 24:07Speaker 3: he said with three curveball, he knows you couldn't hit
- 24:09Speaker 3: a curveball. This is a straight fastball. Okay, this is
- 24:15Speaker 3: a straight fastball. Since you're into the consulting role, did
- 24:19Speaker 3: the people putting the roof back on the trap consult
- 24:22Speaker 3: you about the color of the roof before they put
- 24:25Speaker 3: it back on.
- 24:27Speaker 2: No, I was not a part of any of those convos.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I haven't been a Ray for a while. So they
- 24:33Speaker 2: they It seems like they got all twenty six panels
- 24:35Speaker 2: up and they're gonna be up and running next year.
- 24:37Speaker 2: So I'm pumped about that. But uh no, no, no
- 24:40Speaker 2: one hit me up and asked what kind of customization
- 24:43Speaker 2: we needed.
- 24:45Speaker 3: They could have they could have Should it have been black?
- 24:47Speaker 3: Because you look down, you got no chance.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Hey, catching a dirty white ball on a dirty white roof.
- 24:53Speaker 2: It never got easier, but it made me. It made
- 24:55Speaker 2: me a better outfield. No warning track either, And uh
- 24:59Speaker 2: I love man. That's that's my home away from the home.
- 25:02Speaker 2: That's where I was born, I feel like in twenty fourteen,
- 25:04Speaker 2: so that's my that's my spot man o KK this
- 25:09Speaker 2: was awesome, dude.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Great to have you on, great to talk and elaborate
- 25:12Speaker 1: on what you were writing about on social media. Good
- 25:15Speaker 1: luck with it and we'll obviously get progress checks, especially
- 25:18Speaker 1: through KP as well. Thanks for joining us.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Man, yep. Yeah, you'll be hearing back from me. And
- 25:23Speaker 2: like I said, I'm gonna let Aj Brazinski know, I'm
- 25:25Speaker 2: gonna shut them up and it's gonna be a good
- 25:27Speaker 2: when I do.
- 25:28Speaker 1: We're clipping that to run it back next time, please exactly.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Kratz and me spend a lot of time with AJ
- 25:35Speaker 1: KP a little bit too.
- 25:36Speaker 2: We're here for it, we're clipping it. Do your thing.
- 25:38Speaker 2: We're rooting for you man. All right, sounds good. Thanks
- 25:41Speaker 2: for having me, guys,
