- 0:00Salallahu Alayhi ABBA Abdullah Salaam Alaikum and welcome back
- 0:03to another episode on the aftermath of podcast.
- 0:06Brothers and sisters, the month of sorrow, the month of Muharram
- 0:09is now upon us. And it's a time insha'allah,
- 0:12where many of us amongst hundreds of millions of Shia all
- 0:15around the world will mourn the tragedy of the martyrdom of our
- 0:19Imam, Imam Hussein Ali Assalam. And during these nights and
- 0:22during the upcoming weeks, we join the grief of the Imam of
- 0:26our time, Imam Sahab al Asthma, Zaman, Imam al Mehdi, may Allah
- 0:29hastens reappearance as long as as well as joining in grief with
- 0:34the late departments of Hara Ali Salaam as well as joining in
- 0:36grief with Rasool Allah Muhammad sallallahu alaihi Ali Wasallam.
- 0:40But there is questions we want to ask.
- 0:42I think in today's episode. Is Muharram more than grief or
- 0:45should we just keep it as grief when we begin these holy Knights
- 0:48and shallah? For me on the personal note,
- 0:51Ahmed, and on the personal note, Brother Muhammad, I would say
- 0:54when it comes to Muharam and if I can be real with everyone
- 0:58listening and to myself, I feel like I don't know if it's a
- 1:01double standard from me. I feel like when it comes to
- 1:04Muharram, I double check everything I do, everything I
- 1:08say, my ibad, my o'clock, what I do at the mosque, what I do at
- 1:12home. And I feel like Imam Hussein has
- 1:14such a huge, immense impact on my life and I just want to
- 1:19understand why. How does this man 1400 years
- 1:24ago, who I've never met and I love so much, how can he impact
- 1:28my life to such a level? I would say every year it's life
- 1:32changing. It's beyond the grief, it's
- 1:34beyond the tears, it's beyond the massage of that we have.
- 1:37I feel like he is a father to me, He is a guy to me.
- 1:41He is a light to me and I'll hear your thoughts.
- 1:45How does this month make you feel?
- 1:58Habibi, how are you doing? I'm a larger comp Smila Rahim.
- 2:04Firstly, just taking a word, say to condolences to you all on, on
- 2:08this, on this month. And we're blessed and Hamdullah,
- 2:11we're honored and we've been given bounties by Allah to enter
- 2:16this blessed month once again. And for all of us to be able to
- 2:19be here in itself, we owe a lot to the generations of the past,
- 2:23to the Ailamar, to those who have died and lived in service,
- 2:26to the Imam of our time and the Imams of their time, Aleh
- 2:29Musalam, to such a point where we can live to see this day
- 2:33where we, as you said, say hundreds of millions of us come
- 2:36together to commemorate this. And it all started from 1
- 2:39moment. But listen, we're gonna have for
- 2:43those who are new to after Maghrib, Salam Alaykum and
- 2:45welcome. And if you are returning,
- 2:47welcome back Charlotte. This if you're this is your
- 2:49first Muharram with After Maghrib, then Charlotte, you're
- 2:52in for an amazing journey as we are on every year.
- 2:55This is our 4th Muharram Hamdullah Bilalami together.
- 2:58And we are gonna be. For those who know, we usually
- 3:02do a number of episodes over a 2 1/2 month period on a more or
- 3:07less weekly basis. Sometimes we have more frequent
- 3:10episodes, especially during these ten nights.
- 3:12You might have more than two episodes, inshallah.
- 3:15And we, we try to uncover things, learn things about each
- 3:19other, ourselves, our belief systems, our communities, so on
- 3:21and so forth. Inshallah.
- 3:22But I, I, I need to introduce and bring in someone who's not a
- 3:27guest. He's a Co host, one of our
- 3:30beloved brothers, our teacher Muhammad Ali Salaikum.
- 3:35Salaam, so definitely not a teacher at all.
- 3:38Shall we pray that I can actually live up to what you've?
- 3:43Basically, know you are you. Are.
- 3:46How's it going? Hamdallah, Hamdallah.
- 3:48Honestly what you guys have said is it's exactly how I feel every
- 3:54shit they will be feeling listening to this.
- 3:56I think Muharram is a is a time for revival.
- 4:00It encompasses the the title that we see in the hadith of the
- 4:03imams when they talk about reviving the affair of Ahul
- 4:06Bait. When we hear revival of the of
- 4:09the affair of Ahul Bait, we hear about the Shire of Allah.
- 4:12All of these titles for us, it revolves around one name and
- 4:17that's Imam Hussein Ali Salaam. So honestly, it's it's that time
- 4:21of year that all the shit are they feel this way.
- 4:24They feel like they have to revive the affair, whether they
- 4:26are religious, whether they're not religious, whether they've
- 4:29been on the wrong path in the rest of the year, whether
- 4:34they've been on a good path, every shit.
- 4:36He feels like they have to return in this in these ten
- 4:40nights to Imam Imam Hussein Ali Saddam and it just it just goes
- 4:45to show how much Imam Hussein Ali Salaam how much he acts as
- 4:50the focal point of the Shayoh. The identity of the Shi'i lies
- 4:56in Imam Hussein Ali Salaam I. Agree.
- 4:58To the extent that when we're talking about people that may
- 5:01have been off the rails in the year, you'll still see them in
- 5:04the Husseini al Muharram. And this is like when we when we
- 5:09talk about, for example, the story of horror, right?
- 5:12And we see that individual go from such a bad place to ending
- 5:17up as a companion who Allah sends his Salam upon.
- 5:22That's mind blowing. And what it teaches is that all
- 5:27it takes is one night, one day with the Mama to say, right?
- 5:31And we pray Inshallah that we find that night, that one night,
- 5:36that one day with Imam Hussein, this Muharram.
- 5:38And we pray every Muharram to be able to find that actual, you
- 5:43know, that salvation with Imam Hussein in the month of
- 5:46Muharram. It's nice you bring that point
- 5:48of heart because there's something we hear year in, year
- 5:50out, right? And I think it's beautiful to
- 5:52always hear it all over again because it reminds you, no
- 5:54matter at what stage you are in your life, that the the door of
- 5:58Rahman repentance, it's always open.
- 6:01And that door with Abab Abdullah Hussein is the fastest and the
- 6:05quickest door to come back to Allah.
- 6:08And in in many ways, I, I think we can all consider ourselves as
- 6:13hot. We make mistakes, we make
- 6:15errors. And during these nights as well,
- 6:18I think we have to reflect the comeback towards the.
- 6:20Yeah, I completely agree. There's a lot to to talk about.
- 6:24And I think one thing we should do is be unfiltered.
- 6:27And again, like I said earlier, if you're new to the podcast, we
- 6:30try and be a bit human because ultimately we're not like expert
- 6:35scholars, teachers, but we're not 2.
- 6:36Two of us are not teachers. We have one here.
- 6:39No, but in all honesty, we we want to be real.
- 6:42We want to be relatable. So for me, I'll be very honest
- 6:45and I'll start off, I think for the last two or three weeks,
- 6:49it's been difficult for us. Obviously we've seen what's been
- 6:52taking place in the Middle East. We've seen the way Iran has been
- 6:55attacked, the way the Shia of of Iran and all the population of
- 6:59Iran have been attacked. And I think it's taken our
- 7:04community in a direction of action and activity in some
- 7:10sense, which is amazing. But at the same time it's also
- 7:14stirred up a lot of emotion, some solidarity.
- 7:18It's asked the question as we hear every time there is a
- 7:20conflict about the whole of the Imam Ali Salaam.
- 7:23And of course his, you know, Ashura is approaching and we've
- 7:26seen the Wyatts. If we've watched him our nights,
- 7:29we'll know that on the 10th of March, on the night of the 10th
- 7:31of Muharram, the Imam Ali Salaam reappears in in Mecca.
- 7:35So these are all things that people talk about now.
- 7:37I wanted to ask you guys how you feel for me on a personal level
- 7:41on on that side, yeah, I feel activism and I feel passion and
- 7:45solidarity, all these things. On a spiritual level, I feel
- 7:49like I don't know how I feel because and I feel like there's
- 7:54probably people who may relate to me, but life is so difficult.
- 7:58Well, like everyone in some way, shape or form is struggling or
- 8:03going through something with family, with jobs, with finance,
- 8:07with health, whatever it is, it's tough like and you get
- 8:11caught up in a lot. And for me, on the personal of
- 8:13like, I've been caught up in so much stuff in the last few
- 8:16weeks, few months, like I can't even sometimes get time to sit
- 8:19down. So there are days where for me,
- 8:22like 11:00 PM is the first time I sit down like genuinely.
- 8:26And I think there's people at home who probably feel like
- 8:27that. And then Muharram comes around
- 8:29and you have like a mixed emotion.
- 8:31And I wanted to ask you guys if you feel this way, because I
- 8:33feel this way. There are times where, for
- 8:35example, I feel like, yeah, you know what?
- 8:37I need this. I need the Majalis, I need the
- 8:39Azar to kind of straighten me out.
- 8:42Then there are other times I'm like, I'm not really ready for
- 8:44it. Is it worth not, Is it worth
- 8:48going? Like I have to push myself into
- 8:51it. I have to push myself to listen
- 8:53to Ziyad Ashura, for example, to listen to Lakmiyat, all of these
- 8:56things because I'm like, I need to get to this place before the
- 9:00first time Muharram comes. Do you know what I mean?
- 9:02So I wanted to ask you guys, obviously in the context of the
- 9:04way things are now in the world and obviously how we feel in
- 9:06these days. Now we're recording this two or
- 9:08three days before the beginning of the holy month, so yeah.
- 9:14The points you mentioned, I think I share them and it's, and
- 9:17I think it's only human to feel that way.
- 9:19And just in the context of the recent events, like with Iran
- 9:22and everything, I think you're right.
- 9:23I think for me personally, I've generally asked myself this
- 9:27question. If I see, for example, that the
- 9:30current war, which is now that they were recording, now there's
- 9:33a ceasefire. If that was the side of Abdullah
- 9:36Hussein and this was the side of Yazid bin Mahuya, where would I
- 9:39stand? Where, you know, how would I
- 9:42act? How would I react what starts
- 9:45with I take and and and and I and I remember, for example, you
- 9:48know, that is very famous. We say that's all Allah Muhammad
- 9:50sallallahu alaihi wasallam he bring Islam correct and Imam
- 9:54Hussein save the slum. So in many ways I I think even
- 9:58if, like when we see these recent conflicts, it's it's hard
- 10:01not to say we we have to be Husseini in every way possible.
- 10:05And I think we can be to the best of our extent with our
- 10:10capacity be it's like you mentioned what activism and
- 10:14things like this, but beyond that makes you think Are you
- 10:16ready? Like Are you ready for the whole
- 10:18of the Imam? Like when we whenever you
- 10:20mentioned nice point every time there's a war or something like
- 10:23okay, maybe. Signs of the Imam.
- 10:25Signs of the Imam. Or something and.
- 10:26It's a time where you reflect and you tell yourself, you know,
- 10:29am I truly ready for that, for that reappearance?
- 10:34Am I going to be welcomed by would the Imam embrace me or
- 10:37would the Imam tell me go? Go away.
- 10:39Yeah. And it's it's, it's, it's a
- 10:41moment where we we have to taste reality, not just think it.
- 10:45And if we say we love about Abdullah Al Hussein, we should
- 10:47live by him. We should have the same values
- 10:51he had, the same principles he had at home and the workplace
- 10:55and the mosque everywhere 24/7. This is why I said like when it
- 10:58comes to Muharram, I double check everything I say.
- 11:01I think about what I'm going to say before I say it, how I act,
- 11:04how, how, how, how do I perform my I bother to all last one like
- 11:09even yesterday, just yesterday normally like when I'm at home,
- 11:13all my girls are awake. My my 2 girls, I tend to put
- 11:17them to sleep recite the Quran and things like yesterday's
- 11:20recite Asura yesterday I recite as yaad Aishwara.
- 11:23And I'm like, I'm not just going to recite it.
- 11:26No, I'm going to give it a melody and feel it.
- 11:28And I felt, you know, the past when we say in the Salmoneim and
- 11:33Salim akum and Allah have him during those moments, I'm like,
- 11:37can I really say that? If my Imam of my time is here,
- 11:40can I say the same to him? We're saying it to someone 1400
- 11:43years ago. If Imam Sahmid after it was the
- 11:45man that comes to my home, can I say that to him in the Salmoneim
- 11:49and Salim akum, Wahharabanim and harabakum?
- 11:52It's more than once. It's a point where we have to
- 11:55live it, breathe it, taste it and live it.
- 11:59Yeah, no, 100%. How do you feel?
- 12:01I think honestly, what you guys have said, I, I echo that so
- 12:06much. I think what you were saying as
- 12:07well, Ahmed, about the struggles that we go through as humans.
- 12:12And I think Mahalam acts as an outlet in some ways for those
- 12:18emotions as well. Like I feel I feel like these
- 12:21individuals, for example, in Iran, in Palestine, in Yemen,
- 12:25who have lost family, who have, who have lost loved ones, it's
- 12:30Muharram. That is the time that they have
- 12:32the, the opportunity to be able to let their emotions out for
- 12:37Imam Hussain challenge channel. Exactly.
- 12:40And I think this is what the Imams, I'm Salaam, encourage the
- 12:43Imams, they, they say in Kunta Baki and if you want to cry
- 12:48about something, cry for Imam Hussein Ali Salaam.
- 12:52Some people, they say this means that we should only mourn for
- 12:56Imam Hussein, really meant for the Atul bait.
- 12:58But there's that wisdom there with the Atul Bait, that
- 13:01philosophy of having that time in the year where you channel
- 13:05all of your emotion, all that sad emotion, and you channel it
- 13:09towards something that is greater than all of your
- 13:11sadness, greater than all of your pain.
- 13:14Interject there for a moment. Yeah, because it's so true.
- 13:18I, I, there's moments I've had in my life, Muhammad, where if,
- 13:21if, if I feel like my heart has hardened.
- 13:25I hear the Mossad and I share the softens your heart.
- 13:27That's it. You feel the, you feel like it's
- 13:30been like. Something's been lifted up.
- 13:32Something's unlocked. You're floating and and it's
- 13:35very true. Sorry I.
- 13:36No, no, that's 100% is and, and I think that's how a lot of us
- 13:41feel, right? Imam Hussein and that and that,
- 13:44and with Karbala and Imam Al Hussain, there's, there's
- 13:48something for everyone in the characters as well.
- 13:51And I think this is something that's really important in the
- 13:53philosophy of sadness and mourning for somebody that has a
- 13:56young child, for example, you're relating to Alil Asghar, you're
- 14:01relating to say the Rukhaya, you're relating to the other
- 14:06daughters, say the khola, right? For someone who has a young son,
- 14:10or if you're young yourself, unmarried, you're relating to
- 14:14Hasim, you're, you're relating to Alil Aqbar.
- 14:17You see, it's these, these characters in, in Karbala, they
- 14:22transcend time. They, they're able, they're able
- 14:25to relate to them in such a way that every, every night from the
- 14:3010 nights, you're able to relate to that from a different angle.
- 14:35You're able to picture yourself. And I think that's the most
- 14:38important thing about Karbala and one of the underlying
- 14:42philosophies of Karbala that we should feel like it is happening
- 14:47today. We should feel like part of it,
- 14:49right? The same way that you said in
- 14:51the Salim and Salim and Harabakum, we say until the day
- 14:58of judgement, it's something that's ongoing right now and
- 15:01it's something that's not going to end.
- 15:02And I think this is YARAT and we spoke about this in Germanite as
- 15:05well. That is Yarat are a blueprint to
- 15:09our headma, our relationship with Imam Hussein.
- 15:12Even if we start take just the first line as Salaam Alaiki ABBA
- 15:16Abdullah, like contemplation on that line and research into that
- 15:20line will open up for you actually so many avenues you
- 15:23wouldn't have thought of. So for example, when we say
- 15:26Salaam, Salaam comes from the word SIM, right, which is
- 15:32submission. So when we say as Salaam Alaikya
- 15:35Abdullah, it's not only a greeting, right?
- 15:38And This is why Salaam is so it's an oath or it's an oath of
- 15:42allegiance. And that's why it's so
- 15:43emphasized in every Zara. Every Zara starts with Salaam,
- 15:46right? So you see that this oath of
- 15:48allegiance, this remembrance that I'm completely in
- 15:53submission to you, the narrations of the imams, I am
- 15:55Salaam. They mentioned that someone that
- 15:58gives Salaam is when you've given that person your complete
- 16:03attention. Yeah, with regards to when
- 16:05you're speaking about Salaam towards Al Bait, right.
- 16:08Normal people, it's a greeting yeah, to hear like as mentioned
- 16:11in the Quran, but when we're talking about in the zarat, this
- 16:13is complete submission in our thoughts, our limbs, our mouths
- 16:18and complete like this is the highest level of submission in
- 16:22generations. You have, you have to slim, you
- 16:24have Silm and you have Salaam, which is the, the NTH level of,
- 16:29of submission to the elevator Salaam.
- 16:31And I think it's something that we should really reflect on when
- 16:33we're reciting this Yala to reflect on the words and
- 16:37ultimately, like you said, to have this level of submission to
- 16:40the Hussein of our time, which is Imam Sahab Zaman Ali Salaam.
- 16:44And and that's, and that's all it all it goes towards, right?
- 16:47Imam Hussein Ali Salaam, his mission began with that lofty
- 16:51goal right when Imam Hussein said in the Arido and Amourable
- 16:56Maruf Wahan al Munkar. The fick of Amourable Marufa
- 17:00Nahian Munkar is that whatever comes out as the conclusion
- 17:03should be better than the situation that was there before.
- 17:08Not the same. Not the same or potentially
- 17:10worse. When you think about Imam
- 17:12Hussein being martyred on the plains of Karbala, you you may
- 17:17think what good came out of that.
- 17:20When you look at the words of Imam Sahab Zaman in Zyatan
- 17:23Nahiya, he says Falwell Lulu Osaka lakat katalu.
- 17:27Bipatical Islam may well be upon the oppressors.
- 17:32By killing you, they killed Islam as a whole.
- 17:37When Imam Hussain is talking about Amir Bilmarovar Nahen and
- 17:40Mokar is speaking about the long term mission of Imam Hussain.
- 17:43Because what Imam Saheb as a man will bring is the true revenge,
- 17:47the true goodness that came out of that event.
- 17:50And that's why we're expected as the supporters of Imam Mahdi to
- 17:54come with the slogan Yalafarat al Hussein.
- 17:57And that's and that's the philosophy of Muharram, that we
- 18:00should always feel that we're part of it, we're part of this
- 18:03movement and reignite that feeling.
- 18:05It shouldn't be just to use the as as a as an emotional outlet
- 18:10what which it is, but also to be able to channel that emotion
- 18:14into something greater and into the movement of the Imam of our
- 18:17time. Because obviously the grief is
- 18:19is is the heavy element save you and I were speaking about this
- 18:21before the podcast, but like the the grief and the husband is the
- 18:26word you used that you feel the deep level of grief.
- 18:28I think that can't be taken away from us.
- 18:30And I think we will have to give into it and actually experience
- 18:34it and feel it and personify it. Because, you know, we live in a
- 18:38world which kind of it makes a mockery of men who cry at times.
- 18:44It makes a mockery of those who show weakness in the form of
- 18:47crying and grief. But grief in, in the form of
- 18:50this ozone, this level of grief is a grief which is praised and
- 18:56the grief which we've had seen so many of the wires about,
- 18:59about the one who sheds the tear, about the one who gives
- 19:01Salaam to the Imam Alayi Salaam and all of these things.
- 19:05And I think that that grief, we should fully experience that
- 19:08grief at the highest level of that we can, you know, and
- 19:12especially up until the, the build up of the day of Ashura,
- 19:16you know, personify that grief. Shed as many tears as you can,
- 19:21beat your chest as much as you can, recite the ZR to recite the
- 19:25Quran, everything, give it 110%. And then after that 10th day, we
- 19:30will witness that transformation that we've been on and we'll
- 19:33know that this is Huck, this is Salat Mustaqim.
- 19:36Ultimately, like there's no, there's nothing else we've felt.
- 19:40And we're blessed to be in a community of people who've had
- 19:42access to this. We've grown up around these,
- 19:44we've grown up around melodies and eulogies and, and, and
- 19:48poetry. And we've grown up around so
- 19:50many thousands of lecturers and, and different topics that we can
- 19:53choose books, anything we want. We have it at the tip of our
- 19:56fingertips. Like the, the, the Shia of the
- 19:59last thousand years have not had that.
- 20:01The Shia forget even those who have had access to one scholar.
- 20:04They have not had access to any or have relied on what their
- 20:07parents told them and still made it.
- 20:09You know, they still got us to where we are today.
- 20:11So it's just something great. And the fact that we can then,
- 20:14as you mentioned, channel that grief, our grief into the grief
- 20:18of the Imam and then the grief of the Imam into the grief into
- 20:22into action for our Imam today. That's just such a beautiful
- 20:26chronology to think of it about. Just to quickly interject story
- 20:29as well, there was when you mentioned like the generations
- 20:32before that actually gave us this gift of Azar.
- 20:35It reminded me of a story that Sheikh Abbas Jaffal mentioned in
- 20:39in Stanmore in the ELC. It was Muharram night and he
- 20:42mentioned the story and I was mind blown by and I'll never
- 20:45forget it. He was saying that I think he
- 20:48went to one of the villages or something in, in Russia and they
- 20:53were doing Azad there and he mentioned they were reciting in
- 20:57Russian or whatever language they were reciting in and they
- 20:59did their Latin. And towards the end, like
- 21:03everything had finished, everything went quiet.
- 21:06They turned off the light like the the little lights on the
- 21:09speaker, everything. And he started reciting very,
- 21:12very quietly. And everybody put their hands
- 21:16inside their shirts and they just did Latham really, really
- 21:20quietly. So Chef was confused.
- 21:21He was thinking like, what's going on here?
- 21:23So he asked one of the individuals that was there.
- 21:25He said, like, what's going on? And what he mentioned was that
- 21:30at the time of the Soviet Union, it was not allowed to do us.
- 21:34So back in those days, this is how they used to do majalis.
- 21:37They used to come and they used to gather for Imam Hussain,
- 21:40recite really, really quietly. And people used to put their
- 21:43hands into their shirts so that the sound of Latham doesn't go
- 21:46out. So he said that every year when
- 21:49we do Muharram, we do this at the end of Latham to remember
- 21:52the sacrifice of our forefathers that gave us this.
- 21:56So like stories like that, it makes you really think like, you
- 22:00know, for, for people like us. And like we, we are obviously
- 22:05speaking for myself as well, growing up in this country, we
- 22:07have like the, the freedom of us out.
- 22:09We have this gift, but we don't know the sacrifices that our
- 22:14ancestor has gone through to, to bring us this as A and it's a
- 22:18gift and, and honestly, we should, I think it's, it's
- 22:21something to always remember in Maharam like that, that purity
- 22:24of, of, of your mother that gave you the how.
- 22:27How did that, how genuinely how did it go from the Maktal and
- 22:32the narration of what happened? How did it then in the news
- 22:36Reach Medina and whatnot and Bibiomal Benin and all the,
- 22:40everyone who played part of that Imam Sajjad say the Zainab
- 22:43Salaam Allah, all of them kind of played a role in this.
- 22:47You know, this transmission right from oral transmission to
- 22:50then written transmission. And then it just spread like
- 22:52wildfire. Muhammad Bakar Ali Salaam played
- 22:55such a big role at all of the Ayma.
- 22:57But then like it's here now it's here.
- 23:00Like it's, it's out in the open. No one can silence, silence this
- 23:03forever. Like they'll try and shut us
- 23:05down, but they'll never be able to censor this because this is
- 23:07something like it's dug deep within some grained and buried
- 23:11in US, you know, I mean. And you're right, this is all
- 23:12thanks to our forefathers and now 100% still this love in our
- 23:16hearts. And and it's a love that I would
- 23:18never trade ever because I, I, I don't think you know, love until
- 23:25you have fell in love with Imam Hussein.
- 23:26So, you know, there's, there's some English, although the love
- 23:30of Imam Hussein is not one that's, as we say, lovey dovey.
- 23:33It's painful. And there was there was an
- 23:36English line, I forgot the name of the poet.
- 23:38And he he mentions, he says to Bam Hussein, your story starts
- 23:42with love. Your story ends with love,
- 23:46although your love is pain, your pain is what I love.
- 23:51What a line. I think that explains what we
- 23:55feel during during these ten nights.
- 23:57And I just want to say, you know, you mentioned the story of
- 24:01during the Soviet Union come to Arab, come to Saddam's time.
- 24:05There is so many examples of how despite the the high level of
- 24:11enforcement against propagating the message of Karbala, the
- 24:15Majadas of Imam and Hussein, yes, still lived on it all
- 24:17today. But as soon as 2003 when Saddam
- 24:20Hussein, Anatollah Aliyah fell, when he was when he was removed
- 24:24from power, the first Arbayan. Who remembers the first Arbayan
- 24:29that was on your TV screens live.
- 24:30I still remember my father in the living room saying look.
- 24:34What year was I was? Five years old. 2003.
- 24:38I was five years old in the same year he took was yes, yeah,
- 24:40yeah. Yeah, that's when it began.
- 24:42That's beautiful. And this is.
- 24:43Making pick up their flags and they weren't walking to Karbala.
- 24:47And it just showed you how much you know, they were suppressed
- 24:50from this. Like the amount of grief that
- 24:53was available for you to view on television was unbelievable.
- 24:58Like these people have been their emotions, they were
- 25:03suffocated, they were suffocated and they just, I felt like it
- 25:06was an explosion, an eruption. And look what a letter today
- 25:09that you have annually 10s of millions of people going to.
- 25:12But you know what, like it is sad because obviously there are
- 25:15still places in the world. Look at Sham right now, look at
- 25:19Gentle Bucket. Like there's so many examples of
- 25:21places where we still we still haven't achieved that, you know.
- 25:24And I read today about Afghani Scholar, if I'm not mistaken,
- 25:29who was. I don't even want to say it.
- 25:31Yeah. Martyr.
- 25:32Do you read about it? I don't want to say how.
- 25:34Yeah, I don't want to say how he was killed because it was so
- 25:36graphic and brutal, but purely just for being Shia.
- 25:41Shia. And we see that across the
- 25:43world, like till now, the Shia of Pakistan, the Shia of
- 25:46Afghanistan, There are people around the world who can't
- 25:49express. This is the price you pay.
- 25:51This is the price you know you. Know in Arabic we say this is
- 25:53the arriba, this is the tax, the tax you pay to have love for a
- 25:57little bit. Yeah, and that's how you know
- 25:59that that is sincerity as well. Like it's, it can't be when
- 26:02Allah puts you in that position, he's really testing you.
- 26:05Like we have it easy, man. Like we don't even have.
- 26:08There are obviously centres. Look at Kuwait right now, if I'm
- 26:10not mistaken, they've shut down Majalis.
- 26:14Look at the UAE. There's obviously these centres
- 26:17where you can't practice the way you want, but obviously you
- 26:20know, like. Even, by the way, in Saudi
- 26:21Arabia, 2025 in Riyadh, the capital, yeah.
- 26:27Yeah. Yeah, yeah, You can't publicly
- 26:29hold the, they privately hold majalas in their homes and they
- 26:33have to send secret messages. 2025, we're talking.
- 26:36We're not talking 1991 or something.
- 26:40We're living in this age of technology, this age of age
- 26:42we're about to show you or something normal.
- 26:45And it used to be fed, used to be looked down upon, but no like
- 26:48people. Do you know why?
- 26:50But look at like I said. No, they scared.
- 26:53That's what I'm saying this is. What I was?
- 26:55Going to say yeah, it's not just morning, it's.
- 26:58It's. Revolution.
- 26:59It's. Evolution.
- 26:59Even in some places in the UAE, when you go to a measurist,
- 27:03there's like police standing outside.
- 27:05Yeah, you show your ID. Yeah, yeah, when you go inside.
- 27:08Yeah, you show your ID. Imagine that, bro.
- 27:10Do you have to show your details ID and then you have to leave by
- 27:1310:00 PM sharp? Yeah, exactly.
- 27:14So United Arab Emirates. Yeah, Imagine.
- 27:16Interesting. Those who say happy we come to
- 27:19Dubai, come. To Karambala.
- 27:21Honestly, honestly, you know, we did that.
- 27:23We did that. Video.
- 27:25Last we did a TikTok, it got like a million plus views or
- 27:29something. That's hilarious.
- 27:30Yeah, I was going to add something to this, this thing
- 27:33you mentioned about that Thodi thing that the Shia have this
- 27:37revolutionary spirit, the Hosseini spirit.
- 27:41You know, I was, I was watching a clip of Senator Marco Rubio.
- 27:46Have you seen this? You might have seen it.
- 27:48Marco Rubio. He's a, he's a senator,
- 27:51Republican senator. And he was talking about how?
- 27:57The. 12 is the 12 is have this archaeological point of view
- 28:01where they are apocalyptic in their nature.
- 28:04And firstly, shout out to to whoever gave them that
- 28:07information because a lot of it was fair play.
- 28:09Like, you know, I'm quite impressed.
- 28:12However, at the same time, Marco Rubio, if you're listening, bro,
- 28:15we don't want to hear you again, talk, talk about our people or
- 28:19our belief system. But let's be real, there is a
- 28:22deep level of knowledge about what our belief system is and
- 28:26you know the the positions that we take as she are today, it
- 28:31remains as has been and always will be, our Arcadia solidified.
- 28:36This is the difference between US and other schools of thought.
- 28:38Our Arcadia solidified. And they're actually interested.
- 28:41I don't know if if any of you like like me and search hadith
- 28:45in Arabic on Google all the time about every day and stuff.
- 28:48Yeah. Every single day, but.
- 28:50Honestly, when you when you're like that and you search, you'll
- 28:53see websites coming up that you didn't expect really.
- 28:56Like you will see government websites USA like spy
- 29:01intelligence agencies, you'll see, you'll see documents that
- 29:05they have of a hadith from like crazy, like genuinely, genuinely
- 29:10like that. That's an actual thing.
- 29:11And one of our scholars actually say Muhammad Sadaq Sadaf.
- 29:16Actually, you know what he said? And he was saying this in like
- 29:19the 90s, if I'm not mistaken, or even maybe before that, he was
- 29:22saying, I don't think that the, the enemies don't know about
- 29:27Imam Sahab Zaman. He's like, they have all of the
- 29:30details of Imam Sahab Zaman. All they're missing is a
- 29:32picture. Yeah, literally that's, that's
- 29:34what he said. That's that's what he said.
- 29:36And and in those days, these files that I'm talking about on
- 29:40the Internet now, we're not known, but it is public
- 29:43information now. And you can you can see that how
- 29:46how much they research into our like our theology.
- 29:49I feel like that's. Why they they definitely.
- 29:52That's why I mean, look, look at them when you talk about the mid
- 29:55state of the Middle East, we're talking about, obviously we have
- 29:58to be careful like, you know, kind of how we go about this.
- 30:00But in terms of like, at least from an ideological perspective,
- 30:04it's very difficult to to defeat a group of people who young
- 30:08martyrdom, you know, I'm saying who, who idolize and who discuss
- 30:13and mourn martyrdom. And you know, it's congratulate
- 30:16each other on martyrdom or whatever, or the families of the
- 30:19martyrs on this magnificent achievement because this is
- 30:22something which we believe is God-given.
- 30:24You know, you don't die when you become a martyr like so it's
- 30:26something that you yearn for. As a Shia, we're taught that
- 30:29we're born with that understanding.
- 30:31All of our In My Name of Salaam and our Holy Prophet, all
- 30:33martyred. So we believe that that's
- 30:34something that we work towards. Shah and Shah, ultimately I.
- 30:38Mean martyrdom. Yeah, man.
- 30:41So I feel like a big sober, a big part of what we need to do
- 30:44in these ten nights is to understand how what the Imam did
- 30:48was a success, like a victory in in its totality, in its
- 30:52entirety. Like there was no way, like you
- 30:55said about Amar bin Maaruf, you talked about how Islam, right?
- 31:04Like, yeah, we agree with that. Of course the Imam said it.
- 31:06But more of a case like the victory is in principle, right,
- 31:11The principles and the values that the Imam died showing off
- 31:15and, you know, sharing it was such a shock and awe moment when
- 31:21it happened that everyone was like, what how would he let
- 31:25himself sacrifice? How could he sacrifice himself
- 31:28for this? What was it that he sacrificed
- 31:30himself for? So it probably caused such a
- 31:32shockwave in the Oma at the time that they couldn't ignore it.
- 31:36And then, I don't know, I just, I think that's it's kind of
- 31:39been. Yeah, exactly.
- 31:41And it's still like there's still people try to uncover it
- 31:43and they've created fake hadith, fake stories.
- 31:45Fake, fake, what do you call it, Muster habad that you do on that
- 31:50day? All of these things just to try
- 31:51and like bury the reality of the 10th of Muharram.
- 31:55Do you know what I'm saying? I think also it acts as huge
- 32:00proof of the Shia opposition with regards to the system of
- 32:04Khalafa that existed after a sort of, I think Imam Hussein's
- 32:07mission literally exposes it, literally like there's curtains
- 32:12and he's opened the curtains for you.
- 32:14How has it proved the system of Khalafa?
- 32:16So when when we're when we're talking about the martyrdom of
- 32:20Mohammed Hussain, there's many reports that actually speak
- 32:23about it directly being linked to the system of Khalafa being
- 32:28hijacked by the at Sakifa Mini Sada.
- 32:31So even mentions that on the day that the those companions made
- 32:36that plan to over like to overtake Rasulullah, to kill
- 32:41Rasulullah, to kill the albeit Al Salaam, it literally mentions
- 32:45for either Kutsiable Kitab Qutsi Al Hussein.
- 32:48It was at that moment that Imam Al Hussein had to be martyred in
- 32:52order to expose the system. And I think any Muslim in his
- 32:57right mind even today cannot accept if you were to just sit
- 33:02and ponder Shia, Sunni, wherever you are, right, even if you're
- 33:06not Muslim, sushi say you're not even Muslim and you sit and you
- 33:10ponder and you say, OK, what years is happening in 61?
- 33:1450 years after the death. 50 years Rasulullah has passed
- 33:17away. Rasulullah, what did he say
- 33:19about Imam Hussein? He said all of these things
- 33:21about him say say from the say that Shabab al Jannah Hussein al
- 33:24Mini and I mean Hussein, he said all of Hussein Musbah al Huda
- 33:27was a funeral to Najjah. He said all of these things by
- 33:30man Hussein. He kissed him on his face, he
- 33:32kissed him on his cheeks. He held him on his shoulders.
- 33:35You know he he delayed. Getting up from there during his
- 33:38sermon. All of all of these things that
- 33:40Rasulullah said about this individual, this individual
- 33:43stands against the khilafa. Haba haba hussaina like.
- 33:48This individual is standing 50 years after the death of
- 33:52Rasulullah on the plains of Karbala alone.
- 33:54That is the biggest exposure of that system that you can find
- 33:59that shows you very clearly that what happened after the
- 34:02martyrdom of Rasulullah was not what Rasulullah intended.
- 34:05Yeah, very clear. Because everything else you can
- 34:08argue about, you know, you can say, OK, they will say no, Imam
- 34:12Ali gave bear. OK, OK, cool.
- 34:14Imam Hassan, he made the treaty. OK.
- 34:17So Salam, now like a judgment. OK, we accept.
- 34:20No problem. Imam Hussein, what are you going
- 34:23to say about that? Were you going to say?
- 34:25He'd remind them in Karabakh, he said.
- 34:27You would tell them, am I not the grandson of Rasulullah?
- 34:31And he used to take names of individuals that everybody
- 34:34agreed upon. Is my uncle not Hamza?
- 34:36Yeah. Is is my is my uncle, not Jaffa.
- 34:40He was mentioning names that everybody knows that they are,
- 34:44they are high-ranking individuals.
- 34:48He's exposing them very clearly. And it's also very interesting
- 34:50that it's only after the Martism of Mohammed Hussein that the
- 34:54Shia get a strong identity like known, like obviously the Shia
- 34:59existed since since the time of Rasulullah.
- 35:01But in terms of to the to the eye looking in, they now become
- 35:05a theological group after the death of a Mama saying after the
- 35:08Martian of Mama, let's say. So you can see how important it
- 35:11was and you can see the victory in it because that identity
- 35:14wouldn't exist. When we say saved Islam, what
- 35:16does that mean? At that time, people were still
- 35:18confused about what they believed about Islam, right?
- 35:21And you can see that from how Muslim Akhil was treated in
- 35:25Khofa. Yeah.
- 35:26Those individuals that left Muslim Akhil were not
- 35:29necessarily Shia theologically, right?
- 35:33The Shia that believed in Mahmoud Hussein well with Imam
- 35:36Hussein Kabbalah. They will follow us in a
- 35:37political sense. Right?
- 35:39Shell. Shell, not shell the capital.
- 35:41But after the the Martism of Mahmoud Hussein, you see all of
- 35:43these movements now that are taking a theological stand,
- 35:47right? The Tawa boon, right with the,
- 35:50the the companion of Ali, they were, they were martyred.
- 35:53I believe it was Saeed or his name was, I forget his name
- 35:56right now. It was I believe he was a
- 35:58Khuzati. And then you see the movement
- 36:00with Mohtar. Yeah.
- 36:02And this becomes a theological movement as well.
- 36:04Fine. For for the, for the imams of
- 36:07albeit aim Salam. So you see like that, that
- 36:09identity of, of being a Shiite starts from that point until
- 36:14this day. Our identity is Hosseini.
- 36:16You see that go from from that moment, from that moment on the
- 36:2010th of Maharam till this day, there's the fire in the heart of
- 36:24the believer that will never go cold.
- 36:27This is what the Imam say. This is the words of Rasulullah.
- 36:30He says, for the killing of my grandson Hussain, there is a
- 36:32flame in the House of the believer that will never
- 36:34extinguish, will never fade away.
- 36:36And and I think like, look today, look at look at the Shia
- 36:40around the world. The Hussain is around the world.
- 36:42That's living proof, by the way. And I remember last year or the
- 36:47previous year, I shared one of the episodes we had, the
- 36:50Muharram, the conversation Rasulallah had with his beloved
- 36:53daughter, Patna Zarah. Alayhi Salaam.
- 36:56You know, when we say, for example, you know, they can try
- 36:59as hard as they want to try to extinguish this love and
- 37:04extinguish the shayo and extinguish the, you know, the,
- 37:08the love we have about Abdullah, it's not going to happen because
- 37:11this, this was like a promise Allah gave to Rasul Allah.
- 37:15Rasul Allah comforted his daughter Patna Zarah regarding
- 37:21this when when she when he informed of the story of what
- 37:24will happen to her beloved son of Abdullah Hussein on the
- 37:26plains of Karbala. Then she asked me, you know,
- 37:28would I be there? Would you be there with Emir Al
- 37:30Moumanim be there. And he said no, no, no, no, but
- 37:33don't worry. Be rest assured, I lost one of
- 37:35my Taliban Croatia that will love Hussein, moan Hussein, cry
- 37:38for Hussein until the end of times.
- 37:40And we are living proof and this.
- 37:42Is this is? A moment.
- 37:44This is a moment where I think we need to say at Hamdulillah
- 37:47that we are Shia and Hamdulillah that Allah has blessed us with
- 37:51the love of Hussein. Because I think if you have the
- 37:53love of Hussein, there's some it's impossible to go left and
- 37:56right, by the way, because you know your, your head, as we say,
- 38:00we know your end goal. We know like even being
- 38:02Husseini. Can you, can you say Allah, you
- 38:06know, make us from the companions of Sahaba Zaman
- 38:08without being Husseini? Impossible.
- 38:09Impossible. Impossible.
- 38:10Because I have more than half of your values and principles of
- 38:14what makes you want to be with your mom and Zaman is you have
- 38:16to be Hosseini. Yeah.
- 38:18Like, so like Imam and Hossein, like, you know, people say, you
- 38:23know, like you cry too much over.
- 38:26No, people say you'd be your chair.
- 38:28Well, let them say with their one man, we're we're entering
- 38:31Maharam. Now, so past that, honestly, I
- 38:33mean like. We're now entering Muharram just
- 38:37even for that. If everyone at home don't even
- 38:39bother with these guys, especially online social media,
- 38:42don't even engage with it. Do your thing.
- 38:44Be proud of your identity, be proud of you know, your the Azar
- 38:48that you have and that you feel. These are these are things of
- 38:51pride for us, you know, and the the our salvation.
- 38:54You know, it's very important for us to be.
- 38:56Proud that you were created to satisfy a zahlat, that that in
- 39:01itself is such an honour for for us, Allah's promise to say the
- 39:05Fatima Zahlat, for you to be the embodiment of that when you cry
- 39:09for about beautiful that is, is an honour that we should never
- 39:12like. We should never even have this
- 39:15inferiority complex of trying to explain ourselves.
- 39:18Definitely not. Definitely Cafe Bad.
- 39:21We've had enough now. Yeah, man, who cares?
- 39:23Genuinely, who cares? Like we're here.
- 39:25We've made it this far, Hamdullah.
- 39:27We keep going. We pray that we come out even
- 39:30better and with a great greater matter of our imams.
- 39:34Honestly, it makes it makes you imagine as well, right when we
- 39:36talk about the Azad of Imam Hussein, there's something
- 39:39that's going to continue to till the day of Kiama.
- 39:42You see in some of the reports that after the whole, the Imam
- 39:46himself, he goes to Karbala and he's leading his Shia.
- 39:52Like imagine this scenario after the Lahore right and you're with
- 39:57your Imam going towards Azziara of Mama Hussein.
- 40:00And the reports say that Imam Sahab Zaman will enter the grave
- 40:04of Mama Hussein and he will take out the small body of Abdullah
- 40:10Al Ali, Alaska, and he will hold it up in the air and he will say
- 40:15what was the sin of this child? This, this, these, these
- 40:21reports, they make you really understand that this movement of
- 40:26Imam Al Hussain, it's not even something that ends with the
- 40:29whole, it's something that continues and continues and
- 40:32continues till the day of judgement.
- 40:34Even when we look at the the whole of the Imam, the Imam is
- 40:38still sad. The Imam is still crying for
- 40:41about Abdullah, even though he will take his revenge, even
- 40:44though he will do all of those things in the name of Imam Al
- 40:48Hussein, he is still crying and he still expects you to cry for
- 40:51Imam Al Hussein. Like think about, think about
- 40:54that. Think about when you when you
- 40:55look at the the concept of Raja Imam al Hussein being the first
- 41:00Imam to return after the Shahada of Imam Sahab Saman, look at
- 41:04Imam al Hussein. The Raja is Husseini as well,
- 41:09the Raja in itself. All of this understanding.
- 41:13The. The whole thing of this
- 41:15oppression being ended, the enemies being like the revenge,
- 41:20right? All of the, all of the revenge
- 41:22that takes place for Ahu Beit Aim, Salaam Mohammed Hussein is
- 41:26the title. He's the only one of that
- 41:28oppression. And this is something that we
- 41:31should never forget. It's something bigger than all
- 41:34of us. And I think all of us feel that
- 41:36on the day of Ashura, when you're sitting there and you're
- 41:39crying, you hear the martyr, you hear the matter, you hear the
- 41:42details, the small details of what happened in in Karbala.
- 41:46And you still know in your heart it's much bigger than that.
- 41:52It's still greater than this. It's still greater than what we
- 41:55hear, what we can fathom, what we can imagine.
- 41:59When we close our eyes in the Messiah and you imagine, you
- 42:02know that you can't imagine, you can't find them.
- 42:05You can't understand the greatness of this day.
- 42:09What does this day actually mean?
- 42:11And every Shia he feels that and we pray inshallah, that being
- 42:16the answer of Mam Sahab Saman, we can understand that Maharifa.
- 42:21We can have the Maharifa of Ashura in his the hole.
- 42:24And that's the only way. Like you said, the only way that
- 42:27we can be supporters of Mam Sahab Saman is to be a true
- 42:30saying. If we get caught up in things
- 42:34that are on on the side, like on adjacent to to the Azhar, we
- 42:38argue with people that are telling us why you crying?
- 42:41We argue with people about certain forms of Azhar.
- 42:45We're arguing with that centre. I don't like that centre.
- 42:48This this guy, that scholar this honestly, like it's time that we
- 42:54all as she are, especially in the current context and
- 42:58especially after we've what we've just seen in in the world
- 43:02in Iran, right. This is a moment for the Shia to
- 43:06actually realize that there's one thing that unites us here
- 43:10and it is Imam Al Hussein. When you hear the when you hear
- 43:12the call in these in these times.
- 43:15Yeah, when you hear the the the retaliation or the resistance,
- 43:20you hear them call this name till this date.
- 43:24Yeah. About Abdullah Hussein, I feel
- 43:26like every sheer when you hear that, like I saw the video and
- 43:31they were when they were resisting and they mentioned
- 43:33yeah about Delilah saying it makes your hair stand up.
- 43:37Something happens. To you, it makes you want to
- 43:39cry. In that moment, it makes you
- 43:41want to cry. Just the name.
- 43:43Just Yeah. About Delilah saying it makes
- 43:44you want to cry. And Janami proved it.
- 43:49Hussein is enough. That's it.
- 43:52All. All that all.
- 43:53All you need to say is Hussein. That's all you need.
- 44:01May Allah give us the opportunity to be worthy of
- 44:03these nights and of His desire and and His remembrance
- 44:07Insha'allah and allow us to be of those who are worthy of being
- 44:11the answer of the awaited Mama. Allah.
- 44:15Allah run sisters, we are going to call it a day and we ask you
- 44:21to continue to pray for us and pray for the thought of the
- 44:25Imam, pray for the entire Ummah, the safety of the Shia
- 44:28worldwide. And of course, if you are here,
- 44:32as I mentioned earlier, this is your first time.
- 44:34If you're returning, if you haven't subscribed, make sure
- 44:36you subscribe. Please do whatever you can
- 44:38support aftermarket. We are continuing to try to put
- 44:40out content and we need your support.
- 44:42So whatever contribution you can make towards this project will
- 44:46help us go a long way and show Almar to put out as much as
- 44:48possible, especially during these very blessed weeks that we
- 44:52are in. Finally, we will be uploading
- 44:56another episode in the coming days before our usual Thursday
- 45:00episode, so stay tuned for that and inshallah we will back be
- 45:05back soon, Muhammad Ali. Also, inshallah we'll be, yeah,
- 45:09we'll be having Jamaa Nights episodes back inshallah for AQ
- 45:12and a series. It's not going to be like normal
- 45:14Jamaa Nights, but we had a few questions come in and we thought
- 45:17it would be the best time inshallah to have it in the
- 45:19Muharram season. So inshallah we have we'll have
- 45:21an episode every week on CAN. You give us some ideas, like a
- 45:24couple topics. So inshallah the the first few
- 45:27questions. So we have questions about Imam
- 45:29and Hussein Ali Salaam. Did he commit suicide?
- 45:32We had the rank of Al Abbas compared to the imams we had.
- 45:37Is it allowed to listen to shore?
- 45:39We had questions about Taklid, about Raja, about Istikhara.
- 45:43So we had like a range of topics.
- 45:46Inshallah, each episode will address one question.
- 45:48There'll be short episodes, there'll be like 20 minutes, so
- 45:52on and so forth. So it won't be too long like the
- 45:54usual Drama Nights episodes. And Inshallah, I hope you are
- 45:58able to benefit. You're able to connect with the
- 46:00the message in the in the videos in sha Allah.
- 46:03Make sure you tune in. Obviously this is airing on
- 46:06Thursday, so in Sha Allah you'll have the first episode of the
- 46:10Q&A series releasing tomorrow in sha.
- 46:13Allah of. This religion and may Allah
- 46:21bless you Ahmed. Honestly, this is our 4th Ahmed
- 46:26Ali. Yeah, this is inshallah
- 46:28something we continue until the great.
- 46:30And. We say this is a journey we take
- 46:35inshallah to our graves and I've always said I've always imagined
- 46:38this as the last word from me. Even even if we die and
- 46:41inshallah we are granted gender, I still want a measures for
- 46:45Abdullah. Honestly, this is something I I,
- 46:49I can't live without. It's not.
- 46:51I can't explain how easy it is not to cry for Abdullah, even
- 46:55randomly sometimes. Like you'll be driving.
- 46:57Yeah. Something.
- 46:58I can, I can. Somehow, somewhere, you remember
- 47:01something about Karbala and that's it.
- 47:04That's it. We Allah bless our tears and
- 47:05inshallah the other. Lady.
- 47:08Inshallah, my name is Saddam and Inshallah we see you tuning in
- 47:13throughout the next few weeks, throughout the months of
- 47:15Muharram and Safar Wasalam, Alaikum Allahi or Baraka.
