- 0:34[SPEAKER_10]: Today we'll be reading the script from Avengers number one thirty nine.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_10]: This was published in September,
- 0:40[SPEAKER_10]: Steve Engelhard is the writer with George Huskah on pencils, Vince Colletta on Inks, Phil Richardson on Colors, Irv, what's on it on letters, and Lynn Weene is the editor.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_10]: The cover is by Gil Kane and Frank Giacoya.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_10]: We see Thor Iron Man and Beast's heads floating on a red background while yellow jackets.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_10]: Strattles a whirlwind while whirlwind himself tries ripping the blankets off of an unconscious Janet Van Dyne the Wasp in her hospital bed.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_10]: Everything about this story is rough and there's some homo eroticism to follow folks.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_10]: So enjoy whirlwind screams on the cover.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_10]: Fool, you're a match for the whirlwind.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_24]: First I'm going to kill your wife of Edger and then I'm going to kill you.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_10]: The title of this story prescription death.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_10]: I am your host, Chad Anderson.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_10]: I'll be reading the part of the narrator.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_09]: I'm Taylor Russell, and I will be the voice of the beast.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_09]: I'm Daniel Gilford, and I'm the voice of Yellow Jacket.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_07]: I'm Derek Nichols, and I'll be your thorns tonight.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_08]: I'm at parent, and I will be Iron Man, and reprising my role as the terrible toad.

- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, I'm Dominic Millerton.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: I will be voice in division tonight.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_18]: I'm Sarah Centrier, and I'm gonna be Moon Dragon.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_20]: I'm Alyson Perry and I will be Petty Walker.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_10]: Previously in Avengers, just after the Beast and Moon Dragon joined the premier superhero team, the Toad posing as the stranger attacked and the Wasp was badly wounded by an alien landmine.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_10]: and she now lies in critical condition in a coma in the hospital.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_10]: The tone has been defeated after getting beat badly by Yellowjacket, and Yellowjacket is growing increasingly unhinged as he worries about the status of his wife.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_10]: The vision in the Scarlet Witch Meanwhile are still off on their honeymoon for the Seventeenth issue in a row.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_10]: And they came a day, a day unlike any other
- 2:33[SPEAKER_10]: There when Earth's modest heroes and hero ensphown themselves, united against a common threat.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_10]: On that day, the Avengers were born.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_10]: To fight, the foes, no superhero could withstand.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_10]: Through the years, their roster has prospered changing many times, but their glory has never been denied.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_10]: He'd the call then for now, the Avengers assembled.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_09]: All right, Tode, you're responsible for my wife's coma.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_09]: Now you cure her or else!
- 2:57[SPEAKER_10]: Yesterday, Dr. Henry Pim, Yellowjacket, was controlled by his woman and to rejoining the Avengers.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_10]: Last night, she was nearly blown to bits.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_10]: We now go to the hospital room of the wasp where Yellowjacket is holding the toe up by the back of his shirt over the unconscious form of his wife.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_10]: Dr. Henry Pim has not taken the news of her health very well.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_08]: What do you expect me to do, fool?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_09]: I am but a thief of others' armament.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_09]: Knowing nothing, that's not good enough, Tode.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_09]: We thought you were the stranger.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_09]: We pulled out all the stops to track you down.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_09]: I won't accept an imposter.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_09]: My wife won't die because of you.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_10]: Yellowjacket throws towed across the room in the critical care unit, then lunges at him screaming while Thor and Ironman restrain him.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_10]: The medical professionals are worrying over Janet.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_09]: You're going to undo your damage by God.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_09]: None of that Hank.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_09]: None of that.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_10]: Do not aid you, Avenger.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_10]: Quiet, all of you, superheroes are not in this hospital you follow my orders and this patient needs peace and quiet.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_10]: I'm clearing the room.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_10]: Meanwhile, the two cops dragged to an out of the room while the doctor consults with the Avengers in the lobby.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_10]: I should never have allowed you all inside in the first place.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_10]: What do you mean?
- 4:10[SPEAKER_10]: What do you mean?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_10]: Well, Ms.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_10]: Pym has been stable thus far, but she's still critical.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_08]: Then why did you let us in here?
- 4:17[SPEAKER_08]: I recall, but you insisted on it as her husband.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_09]: But out Iron Man, Jen wouldn't be lying there as she hadn't accepted that Avengers call to join up again.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_09]: I don't want to hear from you.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_10]: Yellowjack is strikes Ironman's armor, hurting his hand.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_10]: Oh!
- 4:32[SPEAKER_10]: And in the corner, Moon Dragon notices something odd, a swirling wind coming through the door.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_10]: It looks almost like a human top.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_24]: Oh, don't take it on them, Y.J.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_24]: Even if all she did was nissucks by the arc, you'd still both have to contend.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_24]: Oh, with me.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_24]: What is that?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_06]: He does columns of woolen, priestess, ancient foe to Henry Tim and his wife, and just as well.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_24]: Right you are Thor, but today it's only the wasp I want.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_24]: Oh, excuse me, I must be going.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_24]: See you around again sometime.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_10]: The super villain pauses his spinning briefly, showing his costume, green pants and a metal green harness that kind of looks like a bullet with striations on the side.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_10]: fitting over his shoulders and under his arms while leaving his abdomen and arms completely bare.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_10]: He spins past the Avengers and into the wasps room where he intends to kidnap her right out of her hospital bed.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_08]: that I don't have to soil my gloves on you while I have my repulsive rays, Worley.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_08]: Ah, I am.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_24]: I can shift too fast for you to get a beat on me.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_24]: Just think you can miss me before I'm gone.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_24]: You can miss jet afterwards.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_10]: Yellow jacket, lost in thought, tries sneaking up on Whirlwind, who swiftly turns on the man and punches Hank Pam right in the jaw.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_10]: Whirlwind hates this guy, you guys.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_09]: He got past all the others as I knew he would.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_09]: My only chance is now while he stopped to grab her.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_24]: No good yellow giant or whatever your name is.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_24]: You can't sneak up behind a band who's used to looking in all directions.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_24]: Only you'd be definitely trying something like that.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_24]: Anyway, old who, well, getting busy and possible.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_10]: whirlwind grabs the wasp out of her bed, but then drops her on the floor because moon dragon is in his mind.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_18]: Not so whirlwind, the power of my mind makes much possible.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_18]: Behold, the power of the mind burst.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_18]: Feel it sear through your brain.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_18]: Choke your very thoughts.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_10]: Godaw, get away, can't fight that.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_10]: And as the nurse talks walls back into bed.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_07]: And yet, she doth return as he came, at such times as he be least expected.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_07]: No other foe men that would face at the prudence of more looser than the whirlwind.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_09]: That's for sure.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_09]: He just vanishes right into thin air.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_09]: And so now, there's a new menace after Jan.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_09]: It's just one long string of disasters.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_09]: This is insane.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_09]: Insane.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_13]: The super biz is like that, though.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_08]: The beast is right, Hank.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_08]: Jan told us herself how much she misses this kind of life.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_09]: All I care about is her death avenger, which could come at any moment.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_09]: What am I to do?
- 7:09[SPEAKER_09]: I can't.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_06]: What L.A.C.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_06]: and me?
- 7:13[SPEAKER_06]: Are that on pain?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_09]: No, just something I ate.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_09]: I told Iron Man before to butt out of my business.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_09]: The same goes for you, and if you won't leave, I will blast it.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_09]: The pain is back worse than before.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_09]: I knew it was dangerous to shrink with that micro trapped inside me at ant size before.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_09]: Still in my blood, but I had to do it.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_09]: And I'm getting good at standing pain.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_10]: As yellow jacket storms out, the other Avengers reflect.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_08]: to think.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_08]: He helped found the Avengers.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_08]: He asked to let it all out somehow, I guess.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_08]: In the meantime, since there's nothing more we can do here, I think we better go see what has happened to Hawkeye.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_08]: He still doesn't come back from his trip on Doc Dooms old-time machine, and that worries me.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_08]: Moon Dragon and I will go check it out.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_07]: Iron Man must be engaged in an argument over which one of us does Chad this team.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_08]: There's no argument, Thor.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_08]: You gotta observe her for the purpose of determining her suitability for becoming an Avenger last time and now it's my turn.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_08]: Adios, quick lady, let's go.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_08]: There's a storm brewing.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, he's bloody.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_07]: Is it to be no order any longer?
- 8:15[SPEAKER_10]: The super biz is like that, though.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_10]: Meanwhile, back on the streets, yellow jacket finds his car and driver waiting, although he didn't order it.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_10]: The chauffeur is dressed in a suit with sunglasses.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_10]: And yellow jacket quickly remembers their history.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_10]: See Marvel featured number nine for the whole story, where whirlwind poses as the pim chauffeur in order to stock Janet.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_10]: The chauffeur was fired, but pim never learned his true identity.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_10]: Or stay tuned later this month on Graham Wilken Land for the trial of the whirlwind.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_24]: Dr. Pinn, I've been waiting here ever since I had news report.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_24]: How was your wife, sir?
- 8:46[SPEAKER_24]: There won't tell me anything.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_24]: A chauffeur doesn't qualify as immediate family.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_09]: Ex chauffeur, you mean?
- 8:51[SPEAKER_09]: Or have you forgotten that we fired you?
- 8:53[SPEAKER_09]: What are you doing in that uniform anyway?
- 8:55[SPEAKER_24]: Well, I thought perhaps all the associations would help her out, sir.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_24]: I only wanted to help.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_09]: She doesn't need your help, Charles.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_09]: Not unless you're a god in disguise.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_09]: Go back to where you came from.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_24]: My, we are in a snippet today art way, but as a matter of fact, I will go back where I came from sir, since that's your wife's sick room.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_24]: You've never guessed that child is really disguised for the world wind.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_24]: Oh, yes, you've played the full right along.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_24]: So right from the day we first met you were giant man then.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_24]: But I've kicked you around in all your identities, and then I disappear in the one place you never looked.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_24]: It's been lots to loads the last, but I've let it go on too long.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_24]: I might have let the pins live happily in retirement, but if they want to stage a comeback, then so do I. And what better time to kick somebody than when they're down, the walls will be easy to take, particularly with visiting hours having rolled around.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_24]: Who knows, maybe it's destined for chows to succeed with a whirlwind failed.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_24]: That would be the largest laugh of all.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_10]: However, when the sinister smirkers swings wide the door, he finds an unexpected hitch in his rosy reveries for Thor and the beast are still there.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_10]: Has it struck you that perhaps the writhing whirlwind isn't the world's most astute long-range planner that his high-speed hijinks may have made in a spur of the moment, man?
- 10:16[SPEAKER_10]: We'll see where that trait takes in after we hop aboard this quinget for a time.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_08]: It's gonna be a long flight, Moon Dragon, so we'll finally have a chance to get acquainted.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_08]: I'll have to admit, even under the circumstances, I've been looking forward to it.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_18]: No doubt.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_18]: I heard Thor speak of your affinity for the feminine.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_08]: Well, my armor may be iron, but there's most definitely a man underneath it, and you're an extremely striking example of the feminine.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_18]: And so, should I now turn to you like this and press my yielding lips to your cold metallic ones?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_18]: What?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_18]: You mineral the same.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_18]: First dare devil than Marvel, now you are grasping for love, for companionship.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_18]: Can you not leave me in peace?
- 11:00[SPEAKER_18]: Can you not see that though I was born on earth, I am not an earth woman?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_10]: She may not be, but what if the owner of this shapely head?
- 11:08[SPEAKER_10]: Because back on Earth, we see a woman in heels with a gold bracelet, who sees a newspaper announcing the new Avengers lineup.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_10]: She looks, gets mad, and wads up the paper.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_10]: Shush listeners, it's Pasty Wackler, I mean Patsy Walker.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_21]: Oh my god, so that's where he is.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_21]: Look out, Beast.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_21]: You won't escape me again.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_10]: We'll find out about her later.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_10]: For now, we check back in on Yellowjack.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_10]: It was looking at a framed headshot of the wasp at home, signed in cursive.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_10]: Love, Jen, and you just know she gave that to him for Christmas one year.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_10]: And that was it.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_10]: Henry Pib, a man of many names, but only one true love.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_10]: He stands in the house of their life and looks at her minutes on end.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_10]: He drifts on the days of the past when she laughed and lured him from his somber studies, played with his life, and made him play, and made him the happiest of men, but should the dream die lurking fury is there to replace it?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_10]: Guess what?
- 12:07[SPEAKER_10]: whirlwind is back.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_10]: Howdy, Yellowback!
- 12:09[SPEAKER_10]: Your number's up!
- 12:11[SPEAKER_10]: Gone is remembrance now there's only action, quick, and sure.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_10]: Yellowjacket leaps past the whirlwind where the insects, his insects live.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_10]: Summing all his mental control, he seeks the million-minute minds beneath his seemingly empty lawn, and when the whirlwind whips onto that lawn, but scant seconds later, he finds the footing somewhat less solid than expected.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_10]: He's spinning and loose dirt, churned up by the ants, and Yellowjacket draws a gun.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_09]: round a little crummy?
- 12:40[SPEAKER_09]: Why's guy playing the ants?
- 12:42[SPEAKER_09]: And now blame me.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_10]: But the cellular disruptor pencil pistol in Hank's hand never loses its body blitzing blast.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_10]: God, there's a lot of the literature in the script.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_10]: Because the whirlwind swirls himself back up on his feet, only he doesn't swirl forward.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_10]: He flees.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_10]: Like a vagrant breeze he's lost to the night.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_10]: So swiftly has he come and gone that it all seems another dream, a form of nightmare.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_10]: But Yellowjacket knows it was real.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_10]: The whirlwind blew away rather than face this weapon of whose function he should have no knowledge.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_10]: In distress, Yellowjacket picks up the phone.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_10]: Why?
- 13:20[SPEAKER_09]: Why?
- 13:20[SPEAKER_09]: Because room three-o-one, please, hello?
- 13:23[SPEAKER_09]: Beast?
- 13:24[SPEAKER_09]: No change, huh?
- 13:25[SPEAKER_09]: Well, at least that's not bad news.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_09]: Listen, I need to know the answer to a question.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_09]: That's affirmative, Avenger.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_09]: Hey, should I come over?
- 13:33[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_09]: This is something I have to do alone.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_10]: The shadows cluster closer around the shoulders of the beast, as he ponders what he's heard, even as they crowd the castle once commanded by Dr. Doom, far below a queen jet on a quest to that area.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_10]: The ship settles two grim figures debark.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_10]: Their emotions ruled less by the foreboding fortress than the silent truce between them.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_08]: follow my chest light priestess and less that's too suggestive for you.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_08]: I wasn't here last trip, but I can assure you I've done my homework.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_10]: He's so upset he didn't get to sleep with me.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_18]: I know.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_18]: Tony.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_10]: However, when they reached the room where Dr. Doom has abandoned his time machine, it isn't here.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_18]: Then Hakai has never returned.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_10]: And on the far beaches of Ru Ru to, Scarlet Witch and Division are still on their honeymoon, but now they're not in speedos and bathing suits.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_10]: They're in their full costumes.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: Return?
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's best Wanda.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: Our honeymoon is starting to continue in any event, but I believe we should learn what our marriage will mean to our lives among other people.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_17]: I'm not worried about us continuing Dark Eyes, but don't you think we should continue a little bit longer right here?
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I like that too, Wanda, but there's a very real problem before us.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll have to face sooner or later.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: If our love's fondest storm approaches, what will our marriage do?
- 14:49[SPEAKER_10]: He's a really worried Wanda's going to make him put that speedo back up.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_10]: He is very logical, is the vision, and for the first time, Wanda wonders if that's altogether a blessing.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_10]: Now, however, it's time, once again, to zero in on the man who began our tangled tail, yellow jacket.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_10]: Hmm, we thought he'd be somewhere around here.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_10]: Look, there's Charles the show first, singing on his way back to the car.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_24]: The fire's show, when they call the win-mariah.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_24]: Oh there he is in the back seat.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_10]: Can't you guess Charles?
- 15:24[SPEAKER_10]: Yellow jacket abruptly ceases Charles by the jacket and Charles spins at super speed shedding his clothes and changing back into his bullet headed harness costume.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_09]: Taking me years to lift my nose off the grindstone and look beyond it, but tonight we're a win ran away from a weapon.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_09]: Very few could have seen you seen it Charles.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_24]: Yes, I have you as a Claude someday the light had to dawn, but I never would have supposed it would take the light years.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_24]: You really are a fool PhD while the world win is a
- 15:58[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, the jacket responds by groin at twenty feet tall.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_24]: Oh, stuff it!
- 16:03[SPEAKER_09]: You're- you're growing, you want supposed to do that?
- 16:06[SPEAKER_09]: Do you think I care now?
- 16:09[SPEAKER_09]: This is for keeps whirlwind.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_09]: Ah!
- 16:11[SPEAKER_24]: Miss!
- 16:12[SPEAKER_09]: I'm going to do anything I have to do to make you pay.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_10]: Evading a punch from Yellowjacket, whirlwind hits the hero in the face and a truly bizarre move that's kind of drawn and colored like he just peed on his face, but I think it's meant to just be a punch in the middle of a whirlwind.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_24]: You've been saying that since I was a human top!
- 16:32[SPEAKER_24]: Look, stretch, I'm still too fast for you.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_24]: It's six feet or sixty.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_09]: That's the name of this game.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_09]: one-y-feet whirlwind and a human-top never-a-lasted giant man.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, you fooled me all these years, but only because Jan and I had other interests besides super-heroing, your right-windy, you're much more of a fanatic than I am.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_10]: Yellowjacket launches himself at whirlwind, who easily moves out of the way, and Pim falls onto a stack of garbage cans.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_24]: Look, man, there's no way you can get a hold on me, no way!
- 17:03[SPEAKER_24]: You can call me as a name you want, but you're fresh out of sticks and stones, you're rich, exceeds your rest, but get me, you're a dead man!
- 17:10[SPEAKER_24]: Mr. You are living in a fool's paradise!
- 17:14[SPEAKER_24]: You owe me.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_24]: Are you embarrassed to clumsy it?
- 17:17[SPEAKER_24]: Are you all making a fool in the front of the whole city?
- 17:20[SPEAKER_24]: All I have to do is spit a bit fast and I can fly like I look up to.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_24]: So even twenty feet would help.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_24]: Hey, where is it?
- 17:26[SPEAKER_10]: Most men would be stopped right there, unable to perceive their imminent peril, but the whirlwind is used to seeing in all directions.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_10]: Even at that, he's almost too late.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_24]: That man, landing on my chest plate pretty smart.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_24]: Changing size is nearly sucked in, but I've had practice fighting the walls.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_24]: You're tiny little things like straws in the wind.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_24]: You're easily blown away.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_10]: But don't the whirlwind could justifyably change his name to tornado cyclone or hurricane.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_10]: or hang on.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_10]: Me, Chad, I'm going to grab my thisaurus.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_10]: He could also be twister, typhoon, vortex, dust devil, water spout, or I shut you not on the alias list is Willy, Willy.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_10]: Anyway, I'm with the show.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_10]: In the next few seconds, he cannot shake his silent disailant.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_10]: The at-sized avenger has found shelter beneath the spinning chest plate before he could be uprooted.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_10]: We see a close-up of Yellowjackets tiny butt climbing through the chest hair of whirlwind.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_10]: I'm not joking.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_10]: Extreme close-up.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_10]: And then, he starts zapping.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_09]: I'm coming for you whirlwind.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_09]: And by the way, the name's not Ant-Man.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_09]: It's still Yellowjacket.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_09]: You've never really fought me before.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_09]: A yellow jacket has a set of stingers in his palms, pal.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_09]: They don't feel so good in full force, do they?
- 18:42[SPEAKER_10]: The boy is successful.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_10]: We're a wind-totters, topples, and then yellow jackets old familiar pain strikes him.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_10]: His size has been abnormal too long.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_10]: He falls double over this time, the pain does not pass.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_10]: Hazely, he looks back as he falls out of world winds just plate and lands below on the ground.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_10]: But it comes the beast, striking whirlwind on the head with a bomb and whirlwind is mercifully out cold.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_10]: Yellowjacket, shaking and weak, changes back to his normal human size.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_13]: Even though Y.J.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_13]: lets his feelings get the better of him sometimes, I could hardly let you continue.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_13]: BEAST!
- 19:27[SPEAKER_13]: Didn't I tell you to stay away from here?
- 19:29[SPEAKER_13]: You did?
- 19:30[SPEAKER_13]: But a Samuel Collins said in the nineteen forty three Superman newspaper strip never mind me.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_13]: A ten to that archfiend.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_13]: Just chalk it up to a hope for friendship and a worry about your welfare Y.J.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_13]: But now, you've got me wondering, why do you fall out of his chest plate?
- 19:45[SPEAKER_13]: Oh, I, I, uh, just...
- 19:48[SPEAKER_09]: but as they walk away with whirlwind slumped over beasts shoulder ready to be hand delivered to the police yellow jacket has some private thoughts got the pain back under control at least and he doesn't suspect but pulling out all the stops against whirlwind wasn't good for me I know it how long will it be before the pain hits me again
- 20:08[SPEAKER_10]: Not long YJ, in fact, it'll be back in a little more than seven minutes.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_10]: But that's the basis for next month's chapter.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_10]: Be here for the harder they fall.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_14]: That was scripted crazy.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_14]: And all of the meta-terrible
- 20:31[SPEAKER_10]: We have a lot to talk about with this particular story.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_10]: Stay tuned later this month for the trial of David Cannon the whirlwind, who is one of Marvel's few mutants that's not associated basically in any way with the X-Men.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_10]: I've shared this on the show before, but I once throw a pitch to Marvel Comics book called Dark X-Men that obviously was never published.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_10]: And the opening pages whirlwind is robbing a bank and there's a team that goes in and neck ridges kicks the shit out of this guy.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_10]: He was effectively well deserved, but I'm actually really fond of this villain.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_10]: He's really creepy and awful.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_10]: And some of my friends here in the group with me will be joining me for his trial later this month.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_10]: Welcome to the incredible Hussein Rashid, reading David Cannon, the human top-turned whirlwind.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_10]: I was expecting you in a full harness and bullet head costume, but I'm thrilled you were here in your own clothes.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_10]: I said, wait, I'm here.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_24]: I said, stop it.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_24]: I can see you.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_24]: We can tell that I'm just sitting here naked right now instead.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_24]: It's fine.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_10]: Because then what was it like for you to play the whirlwind in this particular story?
- 21:29[SPEAKER_24]: You know, I forgot about this bozo until I read this issue.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_24]: I'm like, how did this guy ever see the light of the day?
- 21:36[SPEAKER_24]: And then I remember Stanley and then it all makes sense.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_10]: He's one of those really silly silly like man villains from like the very early sixties again.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_10]: He's the human top.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_10]: He just spins around like his little ballerina, but he gets rebranded and really
- 21:50[SPEAKER_10]: amplified in All-Uing's most recent story.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_10]: This guy has some like really crazy power upgrades.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_10]: He can like face through walls by like going super high vibrational.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_10]: Yellow jacket hates this guy.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_10]: And whirlwind, I don't know if he wants Janet or if he just wants to piss off Hank Pib.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_10]: That's one of the stories.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_10]: We'll talk about that there are many, many stories of him stalking the wasp and including one story where he hires a prostitute to dress like the wasps and then like beats her up in others.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_10]: So this guy gets a real creepy in the future.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_24]: Like, oh, no, I did not know that.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_24]: And that, yeah, he's still on my friend.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_10]: He's a bad guy sometimes.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_10]: Dad, your yellow jacket is going through it.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_10]: He's biting people in the critical care unit of his wife's room.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_10]: And then he's climbing through a man's chest hair just a few minutes later.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_10]: Well, I'd like for you to take yellow jacket on this journey.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_09]: I love playing yellow jacket because I love the confidence he exudes outwardly, but inwardly he's a complete mess.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_09]: So it's kind of fun to like play those alternate sides of him.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_09]: Um, I hate them just so taken aback by how willing he is to be violent.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_09]: The drop of a hat with anyone he's in contact with and how like little he has respect for other people that are in his environment.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_10]: The narrator seems to have a certain amount of sympathy.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_10]: His wife's in critical care plus he's going through this like weird medical thing with his size.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_10]: The narrator's will.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_09]: That's not a metaphor at all, right?
- 23:13[SPEAKER_10]: Later writers will tell us he also has bipolar.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_10]: So this is clearly like a very spiny bad like manic episode.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_10]: The the ants churning up the ground.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_10]: We have the the chest hair climb.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_10]: We have the pee in the whirlwind panel.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_24]: You know, that image, I didn't understand what was happening.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_24]: And the second you said, pee in the world, what I'm like, that is exactly what it's happening.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_24]: And now I can't see it.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_24]: So that is now my favorite panel.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_08]: I love how committed whirlwind is to his chauffeur disguise.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_08]: Like, there's no reason for him to continue.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_08]: There's definitely some moments where he could just not.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_08]: But all the way up until Hank figures it out.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_08]: That's really, really funny to just continue.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, yeah.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, now you figured it out.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_08]: Let's do it.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_08]: Let's find it.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_20]: He does.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_20]: He did a lot of character work for it.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_20]: He knows his objectives.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_20]: He wants to keep doing it.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_10]: This is the kind of man that hears the news.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, the wasps in the hospital in critical care.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_10]: I should go kidnap her.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_07]: You know, a thirteen-year-old director.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_07]: There are a formative moments and me reading comic books that awake my sexuality like when Eddie Brock lost the venom symbiote and he was kind of naked underneath or a faving quartet.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_07]: There's one scene where he's completely naked per se on this tank.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_07]: I think if I was alive in the seventies and saw the whirlwind Hank Pym episode that happened in this issue, it would be one of those moments again.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_10]: You kind of want to cosplay this character just a little bit.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_10]: I totally will for the trial.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_10]: Don't worry.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_10]: Excellent.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_10]: Excellent.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_10]: Now we have characters kind of scattered all over the place.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_10]: The vision and Wanda have been on their honeymoon for a little while.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_10]: Vision is very logical.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_10]: He's ready to get back to business.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_10]: Wanda really wants a romance.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_10]: Maybe some babies that she can magically conjure in a little while.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_10]: What was it like for Ruth Ann and Dominic playing this couple who are finally getting ready to go back to civilization?
- 24:54[SPEAKER_17]: I mean, it's always fun to be wandered.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_17]: But I'm just very sad that my honeymoon is over.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_17]: Although maybe I'll have more lines.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_17]: It's a lot of hat for very little talking.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I have to pick it back up or her with, you know, one more lives in the future and everything.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna miss the little honeymoon phase, but you know, at the same time, we're superheroes, duty calls, so I mean, maybe hopefully after this little bed, we can kind of, you know, vision scar wishing to get some more a long time, maybe, but who knows?
- 25:28[SPEAKER_10]: Now, their relationship is kind of an allegory for an interracial marriage, which is something that is subtext, but when you read it, it's pretty clear.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_10]: So they're often this kind of remote place all by themselves.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_10]: And we basically have vision saying, we got to see how the public's going to react to us once we get back to the mainland.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_10]: And one does not in a huge hurry.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_10]: The first thing vision does what he gets back, phase right inside of a giant size yellow jacket goes right inside another man and it was bloodstream.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_10]: It's what we'll get there next month.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_17]: It's a Chester was bad.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_17]: Oh.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_17]: All the way in.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_10]: Uh, we have another mutant hopping around obviously in this book, uh, beast with a beast of pretty charming in this issue.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_10]: I think his clips don't feel like they're too much.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_10]: Wait till next month, though, geez, he's not.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_13]: What I liked about this issue is it felt like he was sort of settling into the Avengers role.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_13]: Like he feels like he's here.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_13]: He can make these quips.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_13]: He's not auditioning so much anymore from the X men with this always messy.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_13]: And so I think in this issue, be Scott to be sort of the the straight man in a way and just kind of, you know, hang back figuratively and literally kind of
- 26:37[SPEAKER_13]: We do have a, oh my stars and garter's coming next issue.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_13]: That's why it's left delivering that line.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_13]: Finally, finally.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_10]: And the other mutant that we kind of saw the last remnants of Tode is being dragged out of the hospital where he's just had the shit beat out of him.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_10]: And the cop who grabs him immediately goes, come on, Beauty, which is like the hate word.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_10]: You know that that, you know he just goes in and gets like beat up by the cops in the back of the car after this.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_10]: Matt, thank you for reprising Tode one more time for one line.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_10]: I love playing that little freak.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_10]: I love that poor guy and like the hateful cop.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_10]: I don't know.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_10]: We're crazy crazy.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_10]: We get a very brief opinions by Patsy Walker.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_10]: It's been really fun to mix in some Avengers trials in the show this year.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_10]: We've done the trial of Hellcat.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_10]: We did the trial of Moon Dragon for Pride Month, the trial of World Wind this month.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_10]: Hellcat, if you listen to the trial, she is a very classic character who had a resurgence in the Beast Adventures in the early seventies.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_10]: Steve Engelhardt is picking up on an old plot line.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_10]: Beast owes Patsy Walker a favor, and she's here to collect.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_10]: And in a few more issues, she gets her Hellcat costume.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_10]: Thank you to Alice and parent for coming into a voice this character.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_10]: I don't know if you're even familiar with Patsy at all.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_20]: I know that she was in the Jessica Jones TV show.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_20]: But I had a really fun time.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_10]: She's really fun.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_10]: She gets some really fun moments in the coming months.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_10]: It just takes us a minute to get to her superhero adventures.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_10]: We also, of course, had the indelible, a shorn-domed beauty moon
- 28:03[SPEAKER_10]: Dragon.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_18]: Dragon.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_10]: Okay, here's the code for cracking moon dragon.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_10]: Moon dragon wants all men to want her.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_10]: And if they don't, she'll make them want her.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_10]: She went and lingerie right at the whole thing.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_10]: But she only wants to hang out with guys who want her, but actually don't want to fuck her.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_10]: If the guy wants to fuck her, then she's really upset about it.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_10]: So she wants someone who's God-like, but when Ironman's actually having dirty thoughts, she gets very upset.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_10]: And Tony Stark does not handle the rejection well.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_18]: I'm a lesbian and it felt like being lesbian, frankly, whenever you're stuck with the boys and they're just like, hey, what's up?
- 28:39[SPEAKER_18]: And you're just like, oh, why am I stuck in here?
- 28:43[SPEAKER_18]: Yeah, that was basically how I felt.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_18]: And that is Tony anyway, because Tony's gonna be that, that's just Tony.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_18]: He's like, what's up?
- 28:51[SPEAKER_18]: Hey, I noticed that we're alone in a room together.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_18]: So I'm in Europe, like a woman, like at all.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_18]: So I'm in Dio, and she's just like,
- 29:01[SPEAKER_10]: Well, she also was just in the mind of a whirlwind.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_10]: He comes in and she's like, what is this?
- 29:06[SPEAKER_18]: This is a freaking weirdo.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_18]: Yeah.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_18]: And I love that she's like, I am not a earth woman.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_18]: And she's basically like, I am not a straight person.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_18]: Like, don't think what she's saying.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_18]: And it's pretty good.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_10]: One of my to do time to you with my person lips.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, I'm not a plate.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_18]: Well, you want me to make out with you, like, goodbye.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_18]: I know, it's funny.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_18]: That was funny.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_10]: Also Tony is, and it's not directly stated.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_10]: He's like, my arm is hard, but underneath it's flesh, but it's still hard.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_10]: Like, like, search like joke, like, is my chest light too suggested.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_18]: Oh,
- 29:44[SPEAKER_18]: Sorry, I know, and you're just like shut up, Tony, you're such a little baby.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_18]: He's like, I cannot believe a woman has rejected me ever.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_18]: He's like the Warren baby of this team, just like hanging out.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_18]: Really get out of here.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_18]: Tony, get out of here.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_18]: I also liked her being like, behold, the power of my searing mind bulls or whatever is just like talk about a human top, this lady like,
- 30:06[SPEAKER_08]: I wouldn't like the spectrum of insults, like, from Toad to Tony, like, just absolutely can't accept rejection.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_08]: Just Tony is just not used to it.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_08]: Toad is used to it and accepts it.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_08]: It's the only thing he is used to.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_08]: I thought that was fun.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_08]: It's a fun back and forth.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_10]: That's, that's a really interesting comparison, actually.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_10]: And then, Derek, you got to play Thor, who's like, oh my god, I was the one that wanted to fuck her.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_10]: I just got her alone and now you're, whatever, dude, what's the, where's the order?
- 30:34[SPEAKER_10]: What's the
- 30:36[SPEAKER_10]: or with this giant hammer.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_07]: Well, after the three issues of reading this, I mean, it was kind of like, I don't know, I know you talk about this a lot on the podcast, but like comics are like a capture of time.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_07]: And the world is right now is because men wearing culture to like fight over things constantly.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_07]: And this was just in this, like there is nothing else superficial, but between Thor and an Iron Man and just boring.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know, like,
- 31:00[SPEAKER_07]: The other thing about the Thor comments too is interesting like where like modern day Thor is, but Hank keeps saying like, is there a god around and Thor is just sitting there?
- 31:10[SPEAKER_07]: Like, you know, he's like praying for hope for Janet and he's right there.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_07]: So I don't know.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_10]: The women in this moon dragon gets some eskicking moments here, which is lovely.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_10]: But she's the object of desire, Scarlett, which is like, oh, my honey moons over.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_10]: Wasp literally doesn't have a word to say.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_10]: And Patti Walker's like,
- 31:27[SPEAKER_10]: Hmm, I'm gonna go get that piece.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_10]: Like they have no will.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_10]: Even though there's more female characters than ever before in the book all at the same time.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_10]: Stay tuned.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_10]: We get more women doing more things in this book as we go.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_10]: However, it's still a crazy allegory.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_10]: We've got mutant politics.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_10]: We've got the allegory of an interracial marriage.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_10]: We have like men fighting over women and kind of redefining what heroism is in a way.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_10]: It's escalating in a way that makes this book really fun and delightful.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_10]: What are you excited to see like what happens next?
- 31:58[SPEAKER_10]: What are you looking forward to?
- 32:01[SPEAKER_18]: Patsy gets really fun here in a few issues.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_13]: Yeah, I have no idea like what the the Beast Patsy storyline is or if I do, I'm not remembering it very well, but it sounds like you really messed up.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_13]: And so I'm ready to have my answer.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_10]: We covered this on the show.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_10]: I'll be real brief here.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_10]: Hank McCoy is the beast, and he's wearing a latex mask and posing as himself on the base.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_10]: And Patsy's husband is trying to catch the beast.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_10]: And Patsy learns that Hank McCoy is the beast and lies to her husband for him, which results in her divorce later, basically.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_10]: We get to see that character.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_10]: Her husband buzzbacked her.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_10]: Backster comes back in a little while in the Avengers, but basically she's here to say, beast, you owe me something, and it results in her getting the cat costume.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_13]: Listen, it's been years since I've been a home record.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_13]: I'm ready.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_13]: We're the hell Hawkeye has been.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_18]: That does keep coming up, huh?
- 32:53[SPEAKER_10]: Hawkeye is in the old West.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_10]: He took a time machine and, uh, amorous hijacked.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_10]: He was trying to go back to the twelfth century to get the black night, but ended up landing in the old West because of Kang the Conqueror, where he teams up with the two good and kid and they're just like fucking in the old West.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_18]: Like, it is a homo erotic.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_10]: They're boyfriends.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_10]: We'll get there.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_18]: Yeah.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_09]: was, was it clear before now that they were going to let very, uh, maybe I missed that entire.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_10]: Well, Hawkeye took the time machine, the time portal to find black nice.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_10]: So they're trying to find Hawkeye, which means they had to go to that very, which is where the time platform had been abandoned by Dr. Doom.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_09]: I'm quite entirely more complicated than it needs to be.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_09]: I'm extremely excited to see more Scarlet Witch and Vision, like actually being part of the team.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_10]: Next issue is very much vision in the beast taking the spotlight as we kind of resolve this yellow jacket wasp timeline going forward.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_10]: Starlet Wish gets some really big stuff.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_10]: It just takes a bit to get there, but Vision gets some really cool action in the next sub and next script.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_10]: Patsy gets some cool funny moments, but it's for it's like three more issues before Patsy really gets to shine.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_10]: Now the team's gonna split up, right?
- 34:08[SPEAKER_10]: We've got Iron Man and Moon Dragon in one place, and Hawkeye had another.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_13]: So on a kind of a serious note, what's interesting, being such an Xman fan, you know, there's always, almost always a firm leader in the Xman, whether it's Charles or Cyclops or Storm, whereas right now I feel like, you know, Storm or, excuse me, Thor and Iron Man are, you know, bickering about the chair position, caps and not around.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_13]: And so it's interesting to see this sort of lack of leadership dynamic.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_13]: Um, and so I'm curious to see how that could evolve if, you know, like, I think cat comes back and, you know, like, tenor issues or so.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_13]: And then just I'm curious to see how that plays out again, just in the X man.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_13]: There's usually a clear leader at all times.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_10]: It's crazy because the kind of it's kind of a shitty leadership unless it's cap until wasp takes over.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_18]: But until wasp takes over and she's so good.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_18]: It's my favorite era of Janet.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_18]: She's just like, hey, everybody wants up.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_18]: Um, so I think we should vote and maybe I should be leader and everybody's like, wait, what?
- 35:04[SPEAKER_18]: choose the leader for like a hundred issues.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_10]: And after that, it's Monica Rambo who's added to, yeah, it just takes a minute to get there.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_10]: But yeah, this is the premier superhero team and these people are not acting in any sort of ethical way.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_10]: Good Lord, they're just terrible all of them.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_08]: Daniel, I love how insane yellow jacket is getting.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_09]: that a lot of fun to play this unhinged character that is increasingly becoming unhinged and also their internal, his internal, my monologue is completely, also unhinged but in so the way.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_10]: He has a microbin as blood that means he shouldn't change size because it makes his heart, I don't know, with science friends.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_13]: Sarah's always amazing as Moon Dragon, always here for authentic voices and anytime a lesbian can voice a lesbian, like all men being stupid in the room, you're here for it.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_18]: I think I'm finally getting the content down of Moon Dragon.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_18]: It took a minute because I was like, I'm just not that mad.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_18]: I guess.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_18]: And now it's like a little bit later in the twenty twenty five and I'm like, I'm pissed.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_18]: I'll start it.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_18]: Let's do it.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_10]: We're also recording this forty eight hours after we just recorded the lengthy trial of Moon Dragon.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_10]: So like, I feel like Sarah and I we like get her now.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_10]: Like we really.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_18]: deeply deeply in this woman's mind right now.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_07]: I love Alison's Passy Walker because it was what one line, but that's totally how I envision her talking.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_19]: Thank you.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_10]: That was really fun.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_10]: I've excited to hear and you come back to do this part.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_10]: Also, the switching like your Charles voice with whirlwind disguising.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_10]: That was so good, my friend.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_10]: It's so good.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_10]: It's insane.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_10]: You guys have seen this really talented brilliant professor.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_10]: And to see you come on this show and just like, play with us is so fun.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_10]: I love you every time you're here.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_24]: I just love coming home because I get to practice.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_24]: And I can feel like I'm my husband trucks.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_24]: You know, I'm eventually going to get like the Supreme James Cag named voice for Charles Bell.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_10]: Well, we didn't call out beast like referencing this old, like, you know, fifty year old Superman comic strip.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_10]: Like, I run his references and we're in Robinson, Restin Peace.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_24]: I just want to say I'm always so grateful to join this group and any group you put together, but any time I'm with this script reading, I just love what everybody does with the characters because it's not what I'm expecting ever and I love it because it's so much better than anything I can think of.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_10]: Creating joy in this world is an act of the science.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, we got a call of Dominic too.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_10]: Dominic, uh, you're playing division married to the Scarlet Witch, but you just got back from a con where you cosplayed as the, like, boy version of the Scarlet Witch.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_10]: That was fun too.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: That was a lot of fun.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: I got to do, uh, do, uh, been wanting to do it for a while, but now I thought this was the, uh, chance to do it.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I have a lot of fun playing my own, uh, spin on that and
- 37:59[SPEAKER_10]: Well friends, I had a delightful time as always.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_10]: Thank you so much for coming and creating this joyful space.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_10]: Everybody who's listening stay tuned for the latter half will have a different crew coming in to read champion
- 38:09[SPEAKER_10]: It's number three, it's the adventures of Ice Man and Angel and all those mysterious Olympian holes that are popping up all over the place.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_10]: If you've been following our story on the other side, it's so queer.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_10]: This was a gay script today.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_10]: The next one is like crazy, crazy gay.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_10]: It's a lot.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_10]: Everybody stay tuned.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_10]: As we're wrapping up, if you have any final thoughts, would love to hear them.

- 39:21[SPEAKER_17]: I decided to create my, I make cosplay out of garbage around my house.

- 39:34[SPEAKER_18]: Yeah, so go to Sarasantree.com and you can find all kinds of interesting facts about me.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_18]: But I wanted to shout out because I always forget to shout this project out that I've been doing with Alex Sagar.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_18]: I've been doing this great fun, amazing comic that I love doing and I just constantly forget to promote it.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_10]: It just because the name for God is in the title.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_18]: is straight up.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_18]: So it's called The Forgotten Five.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_18]: It's a, if you love like old Claremont X-Men or like Louis Simonson X-Factor, that kind of era, like we like the eighties storytelling basically.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_18]: And so we're trying to like space it out and make it long, which means it's on Patreon because it's hard to find publishers who will publish something for a million years at this point.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_18]: So Patreon.com slash.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_18]: the forgotten five and it is spelled exactly how you think it is and we have a huge like it's so fun to work on that comic is ridiculously fun pack Kennedy from Archie does the art and we have some other guests like guest artists to work on again and it's fun
- 40:39[SPEAKER_10]: And Alex is as delightful as Sarah, which is saying something.

- 41:28[SPEAKER_10]: See Dominique has three of the fantastic four members, the fourth ones.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_17]: The fourth one is the same visible woman.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_17]: I just make the same joke.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I guess not talking about after the recording is no idea.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I skipped the much of us like like Allison said if Chad is a nerdy academic.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_08]: We are nerdy clowns all August because we love a dumb name.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_08]: We are doing age of apocalypse in August of apocalypse the funniest thing I've ever it's only funny to the two of us, but we love it.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_10]: I love a moment on the show when I'm so proud of my joke and everyone's like

- 42:46[SPEAKER_10]: We'll see you all back here in just a few minutes.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_10]: Hey everybody.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_10]: Welcome back to the second half of the Green Walk and Lane podcast.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_10]: We get to continue our show with champions number
- 42:55[SPEAKER_10]: Three, this story came out in February, in nineteen seventy six, with Tony Isabella, who goes by Jenny these days, and Bill Matlow joining as co-writer, George Tusk on Pencils Vince Colletta on Inks, George Russo's on Colors, Gasper Saladino on Letters, and Marv Wolfman on edits.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_10]: This story is crazy.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_10]: It's a continuation of everything that's been going on in the first two champions.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_10]: This story is called Assault on Olympus.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_10]: The narrator tells us Hercules, Black Widow, Angel Ghost Rider, Ice Man.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_10]: The logo stands bold and white and red.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_10]: The angry face of Hercules occupies the corner box.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_10]: Pluto and Zeus sit in their thrones, watching their minions battle the superheroes from Earth and Pluto shouts.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_11]: Even if thy son and his comrades survive this combat, Zeus still, they are condemned to hell.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_11]: And Zeus replies,
- 43:42[SPEAKER_10]: And I am powerless to aid the Iceman Hercules, Black Widow, and Ghost Rider are pounding on men and tunics in the horny helmets.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_10]: It's an assault on Olympus folks.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_10]: I'm Chad Anderson and I'll be playing your narrator.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_10]: I'm Mike Frosty and I'll be playing Angel.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_12]: I'm Christy Porter and I'm playing Black Vindo.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_22]: I'm Michael Hammond.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_22]: I'm playing the Ghost Ratter.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Sean Prette and I'm playing Hercules.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Scott Frey and I'm playing Ice Man.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_23]: I'm one and I'll be playing Venus.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_25]: I'm Kael and Bought here and I'm playing Pluto.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_25]: I'm Ryan Crawl and I'm playing Aries and the Huntsman.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_25]: I'm the band of Martini.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_25]: I will be a Palota and mutates.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_25]: I'm an conservative linguist and Dionysus.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_10]: Obviously in the Champions.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_10]: Pluto, Lord of Haiti, sent agents to retrieve Venus and Hercules and a bid to force them into marriage at the order of Zeus.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_10]: Hercules was commanded to marry Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, and Venus to marry Aries, God of War.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_10]: These marriages would create a loophole in Olympian law that went a lot
- 44:41[SPEAKER_10]: Pluto and his allies to take over Earth with the Zeus, unable to act.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_10]: The powerful and terribly dressed Huntsman has captured Hercules and Venus back to Olympus, leaving Angel, Ice Man, Black Widow, and Ghost Rider to rescue them.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_10]: But how?
- 44:54[SPEAKER_10]: Where's all the Olympian holes?
- 44:55[SPEAKER_10]: We're open on an idyllic beach where Warren Worthington III looks out on the horizon, wearing nothing but a Speedo.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_10]: and Black Widow lounges in a bikini, a drink just within reach.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_10]: Off on the beach, Ice Man is fully iced up and no joke doing pirouettes on a self-generated ice frink, as heterosexualy is possible, of course.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_10]: White birds fly overhead.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_12]: It would seem that friend Ice Man takes his defeats in stride angel, one would think that the loss of hercules and Venus to the handsmaid could not be swallowed so easily.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_05]: Don't let Bobby's games fool you, widow.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_05]: He's just a sick about what went down as we are.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe more.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_05]: He just doesn't show it like normal people, but that's all.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_05]: But then we meet you in science, post the act like normal people.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_12]: I sense the same bitterness in your voice that I have heard from others, they'd outcast by sister sciety, women, for instance, and the expression.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_03]: Right on, Lady, but saying it doesn't change anything.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_03]: We're all failures all the way down the line.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_03]: We blew it with Herk and Venus, just like I messed up things as far back as I can remember.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_03]: And it shows Mr. Drake, it shows Scott B and the new X men sound like they're doing just fine without me in war and Hank's got it made with the Avengers and the girl I loved, Lorna Dane, has forgotten all about me.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the only thing that matters to her these days is Alex Summers.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_03]: But the thing that tops it all off is that the world may be right.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_03]: Mutants may be dangerous, but only because some of them are failures.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_03]: Think about a Drake.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_03]: Pluto sent his muting horns to Earth to capture hercules and Venus on the UCLA campus.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_03]: We fought them to a standstill, but that's when Pluto himself popped up to lay his wedding announcement on us.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_03]: Something so weird.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_03]: I'm still not sure.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_03]: I know what he was talking about.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_03]: But the gist of it was, Herk had to wed some sneaky queen at the Amazons, while Venus was stuck with Aries, a pea brain to limpian throw back to a beach party movie.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_03]: So we fought him again.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_03]: But Pluto sent out in the Huntsman, who created an illusion around Warren, the widow with me, so we looked like daddy's to the ghost rider.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_03]: And while GR was zapping us, the Huntsman made off of this prize, and we were left holding the bag.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_03]: But there's no way we can help Herk always up in Olympus.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like I said, Drake failures.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_10]: And there you have that witch half gone before.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_10]: Iceman's brain is full of heavy thoughts.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_10]: He's twirling on the ice on the beach.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_10]: And then enrides the head is the also heterosexual Johnny Blaze.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_22]: Drake, you petulant popsicle snap out of a partner.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_22]: We got work to do.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_22]: Blaze, what are you doing here?
- 47:24[SPEAKER_22]: Oh, what a welcome.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_22]: Well, proud if you want to, but you'll never find how we're going to get hercules back if you do.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_22]: What?
- 47:30[SPEAKER_05]: Well, well, looks like our out of favor stunt writer has pulled the bad penny act.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_22]: He's turned up again.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_12]: He looked excited about something.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_22]: You better bet I'm excited, lady.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_22]: It's not every day that a mere mortal figures out a way to get himself in his buddies to Olympus.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_22]: Ooh, if this is a joke, please.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_22]: No joke, frosty, fat.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_12]: I suggest you calm yourself and begin explaining Johnny.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_22]: Your wish is my et cetera widow.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_22]: Anyway, after our little altercation, I'll roll back towards UCLA.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_22]: And there, I overheard a bunch of students John about a mountain or something on campus.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_10]: He flashed over to two bed and staring at Ice Man's Mountain on the UCLA campus.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_26]: I'm telling you, man, I saw it!
- 48:12[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, before or after you saw the UFO.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_22]: I'd dug right away just what the guy was talking about.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_22]: It was a souvenir yesterday's battle.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_22]: One, all of us had forgotten entirely about.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_22]: Something that seemed almost meaningless until I saw it staring at me in the face.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_22]: Holy cow, the mountain.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_22]: Iceman's mountain.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_22]: And there it was.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_22]: Big and hard and frozen as ever.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_22]: The one Drake formed to prevent Pluto from following after us while we lugged an unconscious her convenis out of harm's way.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_22]: Now, do you get what I'm talking about?
- 48:41[SPEAKER_03]: Sure we do, pal.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_03]: You're sick.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_12]: It was a poor joke, Johnny.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_03]: A sick joke you mean.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_03]: So I piled up a lot of ice over the portal that Pluto and the Olympians used to reach Earth.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_03]: And the ice hasn't melted yet.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_03]: So what?
- 48:53[SPEAKER_12]: Wait, don't you see, Bobby?
- 48:55[SPEAKER_12]: See what?
- 48:56[SPEAKER_12]: All the other portals to Olympus were closed by the Olympians behind them before we could get through.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_12]: But not this one.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_12]: Your mountain block Pluto from closing it, it's still here.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_03]: Head ice man, snacks himself on the head.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_03]: Which means we've got a way to follow them and rescue hercules.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_03]: Kick me somebody.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_03]: Kick me.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_05]: Later, Bobby, right now, we're back in business.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_10]: Let's move to Olympus, home of the immortal gods, and the scene this day of villainy most foul, the black double wedding of Venus goddess of love to Ares got a war, and of Hippolyta to Kyuzus.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_14]: Hercules, my son forever wedded to that witch Hippolyta, say it's not so dire nice as tell me it's a lie.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_10]: As a trumpeter plays fanfare, Zeus, clad and pink and purple sits with Dionysus, God of wine, who is dressed in green robes with a yellow belt.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_14]: He's no lime, a Lord's is.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_14]: He's as it must be of hollowed a limb.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_14]: This is to survive, thou knowest my Lord, the why and the wherefore of the degree.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_14]: I know, Dionysus.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_14]: I know that was reprehensible Pluto that did conspire with the Lords of other Hells to unite against Olympus, and that he's only a mockery of a wetting will hold such an alliance at bay.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_14]: Yet Percules is my son, Dionysus.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_14]: My son!
- 50:17[SPEAKER_14]: I know, may Lord, I know.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_11]: And gathered nearby the three villains in our tale.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_11]: Gaze on the King of the Gods, my friends, look ye on the end of Olympus.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_11]: He believes this marriage will end of threat against him.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_11]: The fool does he not know that he's bound by his own sacred laws that husband may not oppose wife nor wife go against her husband.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_11]: And that, by wedding Hercules and Venus, he has bound only two Olympians who could have prevented the overthrow of Zeus.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_11]: The taste of victory is sweet
- 50:50[SPEAKER_11]: carries, and it is Pluto's now and forever more.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_10]: Just outside, Hercules is forced into the arena by the armed mutates, holding spears and guns, Zeus watches from the window.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_04]: Allow thee to taunt him.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_02]: This to the godland crow, I fellow mutants.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_02]: List well to the cries of the groom condemned before his wedding to eternal helplessness.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: Lee!
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: Hercules says the nay.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_02]: There will be no wedding.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_02]: My father will not allow.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_02]: Arr!
- 51:31[SPEAKER_02]: Allow Hercules!
- 51:32[SPEAKER_02]: Disuse that you will marry!
- 51:35[SPEAKER_02]: Disby Zeus's decree!
- 51:37[SPEAKER_02]: By decree, Father!
- 51:39[SPEAKER_14]: I condo nothing, my son!
- 51:41[SPEAKER_14]: Nothing!
- 51:42[SPEAKER_23]: Then thy son calls thee coward, Father!
- 51:45[SPEAKER_23]: Coward and curse!
- 51:46[SPEAKER_23]: Hercules know whatever passes here, whatever evil may be followed, the fault is not your father's, but Pluto's!
- 51:53[SPEAKER_04]: Though art ever ready to spare another hurt love goddess, even if they'll must shoulder the pain myself.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_23]: That is love, Hercules.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_23]: I'm, but what I must be, as you are, and you're far.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_15]: Now let's cut to the wooded slopes surrounding a little bit.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_15]: This, hm?
- 52:08[SPEAKER_15]: It's has the Huntsmanfall weddings and macabellian scheming.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_15]: My purpose is, the hunt!
- 52:15[SPEAKER_15]: My prey, errands, a little beans.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_15]: I agree to help you to
- 52:20[SPEAKER_15]: Maybe because his ends in mind are the same.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_15]: A rule of death will provide death's hunter for sports for fraternity.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_15]: But what hold?
- 52:29[SPEAKER_15]: What madness is this?
- 52:31[SPEAKER_15]: He's the mountain of ice, one of the mortal warriors did trap us within his vain defense of Haccules.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_15]: Yet it does seem to warm him itself from within.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_15]: Almost as if it did.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_10]: The mountain melts and bursts open as the four superheroes from Earth burst through.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_22]: That's the ticket huntsman.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_22]: It's called Hellfire and it's time you answer to the ghost rider.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_05]: I'll bet on the first angel who ever had to bust into heaven.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_12]: I apologize, please.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_12]: We did it.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_05]: We've reached Olympus.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_12]: Careful comrades, the Huntsman has proven himself in moods for middle-bullful, and we must pass him to reach Hercules.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_15]: That you aren't truly bailed for all your strength is not enough to best meet when the gates of heaven fall.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_15]: Come my allies in my call, destroy the mutants, crush them, to beneath my demonhood.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_10]: At the Huntsman's summons, the mutates come rushing over, weapons in hand.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_05]: That subgroup, skinny just materialized in army from out of nowhere.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_12]: Hercules is our main concern, Adonjo, battle with such as these means delay, we cannot afford.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_12]: Leave them to myself and I, man, you and Ghost Rider keep going.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I guess, well, I accepted you as Team Leader yesterday, would I?
- 53:51[SPEAKER_05]: I guess I can do the same today.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_05]: But before I go, let me at least leave my calling card.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_05]: Just so these clowns know that the angel was here.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_10]: This is out.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_10]: Angel plows through a group of mutates while Ghost Rider blasts one with Hellfire from the back of his motorcycle.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_22]: And here's one for the road from the group spook troops.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_22]: Remember it when you think of me.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_12]: They're gone, nice man.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_12]: Leaving the two of us to face an army.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_03]: You want to know something lady?
- 54:17[SPEAKER_03]: With you at my back, I kind of like the odds.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_12]: Though you are competitively young, Bobby Drake, you fight and compliment like a man.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_03]: Widow, you've just kicked my ego right out of the ballpark.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_03]: I mean it.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'm straight, I'm straight, you think?
- 54:33[SPEAKER_04]: Meanwhile, a short eternity away.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_04]: Make thy proclamation, father, thy son will defy thee to the last.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_14]: Silence, Hercules, have not my wrath, son of my heart, that with must be will be.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_11]: Boken like a true king, all father.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_14]: The wedding will be performed with those ooze his heart stuck break.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_14]: I pray that it rains.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_16]: I can think of worse fates than being wed to Venus at Palota.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_16]: You're fates, for instance.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_26]: You are not a goddess, Aries.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_26]: And you see not as a goddess sees.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_26]: My future husband is no gift of Bill Fate.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_04]: Have courage to love goddess.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_04]: We are not wed yet.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_23]: I have no fear.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_23]: Hercules.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_10]: I... Suddenly, the Huntsman materializes in the chamber.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_15]: My Lord, Pluto!
- 55:22[SPEAKER_15]: We are undone!
- 55:24[SPEAKER_11]: What?
- 55:25[SPEAKER_11]: Dip the gun, Huntsman.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_11]: The ceremony must continue before.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_11]: For what, Death God?
- 55:30[SPEAKER_04]: Before salvation is visited uponish, my friend.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_04]: Though all hearts in the Olympus stand unwilling to help me, the mortals have not forgotten me.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_15]: To steal, not yet late to stop them.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_15]: Another rhyme will conjure forth.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_10]: Nothing, pal.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_10]: And income rushing our heroes and angel grabs the Huntsman's staff.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_05]: Your days of conjuring are decidedly done for.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_05]: Now, are you going to give me that stuff?
- 55:54[SPEAKER_05]: Where am I going to have to take it?
- 55:56[SPEAKER_05]: No!
- 55:57[SPEAKER_15]: The scuffer power!
- 55:59[SPEAKER_15]: That must not!
- 56:02[SPEAKER_05]: Are you kidding, friend?
- 56:04[SPEAKER_05]: Did they really give you the same corny villas and speeches up here that they give back on earth?
- 56:08[SPEAKER_05]: What a waste!
- 56:09[SPEAKER_05]: No!
- 56:11[SPEAKER_10]: But yes, Olympian or mortal ahead is but ahead and a stone wall is just as hard on Olympus as it is on earth.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_10]: Huntsman goes head first into the wall and is out.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_11]: Are you not the war god?
- 56:24[SPEAKER_11]: Stop them, you fool.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_11]: Are we are undone?
- 56:28[SPEAKER_11]: Zeus will not help them, he still believes his union must come to pass, if Olympus is to be saved.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_04]: Coward, where my hand not held, but it is braggert, you are hopeless, Hercules, helpless.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_04]: thou just taunt me, war god, thou does dare to make a mockery of the prince of power, thou has presumed too much, Eris, and thou must answer for it.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_10]: Hercules fist screams through the Zeus-imposed barrier, connecting beautifully with the chin of the god of war.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_10]: And from behind Hercules comes a low chuckle, the laughter of Zeus, father of the gods.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_26]: We are lost to this clear to the queen of the Amazon's, but of Hercules is not to be mine.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_26]: Venus, he will not be yours.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_23]: I have no claim on hercules, saving your unsulled mind, the politics, and yet.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_23]: I am fighting with violence.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_23]: That shall never be for mine, is the power of love and Amazon.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_23]: My sword!
- 57:34[SPEAKER_23]: The power to alter weapons of war into gentle tools of peace.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_10]: Venus gestures and the sword of her politics flies through the air and changes into a plow which then drops on the head of her politics and knocking her out.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_10]: The Amazon Queen's weapon is transformed and she is negated by her own violence for the present.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_23]: Such is the power of love to politics.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_04]: I courage has made my heart rejoice, Verviness.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_04]: A joy that is boundless, as mine eyes perceive a reunion of all the mortals that did ally themselves with our just cause.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_03]: If that means you're glad to see us hurt, then it's Ditto, the feelings mutual.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_03]: The heroes are hit with a blast of elder energy.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_03]: No, this will not be, uh, feels like I'm being killed and allowed to watch it happen.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_11]: So you are mortal, twice have you dared the wrath of death, twice have you defied me, there will be no third time.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_04]: Get the behind me mortals, your strength is no match for Pluto, nor is yours, Hercules, you will be slain.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_12]: As would any of us, we cannot hope to then over Pluto.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_12]: That is for another power, another strength.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_22]: widow, you're coming in loud and clear, please?
- 58:46[SPEAKER_22]: What?
- 58:46[SPEAKER_22]: Pluto's gotta be stopped angel, one way or another.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_22]: You fool, he'll kill you!
- 58:51[SPEAKER_22]: Dined ally speaks truth mortal, I bet he does Pluto, but I'm not stupid enough to take on one lord of hell, not after what I went through tangling with another.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_22]: What?
- 59:01[SPEAKER_22]: You pass me by?
- 59:02[SPEAKER_22]: You got it, Death God.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_22]: There's only one dude that can take you and come away clean.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_22]: And none of us, not even Hercules, are in his league.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_22]: The spirit of vengeance, advances and points of finger at the Olympian God himself.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_22]: Your league Zeus, you are the only one who can stand against Pluto.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_22]: And you copped out.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_22]: Was it easy to sell your son to Death Pal?
- 59:23[SPEAKER_22]: My cronos mortal, thou dustboy would do!
- 59:26[SPEAKER_22]: All my lives, Zeus, since I thought I couldn't make it on my own, since I asked the devil for help and accepted it.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_22]: The way you are accepted in Pluto's last life.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_22]: Sure.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_22]: What do you think he had to promise those other deathguards in order to get their unity?
- 59:41[SPEAKER_22]: Didn't it occur to you that it might be your head on a platter?
- 59:43[SPEAKER_22]: Blue Joe!
- 59:45[SPEAKER_14]: I allowed a mortal weakness to possess me so that I did not see the duplicity.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_14]: Get the God's deathguards, Zeus will deal with thee later.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_14]: Uh, I go, my Lord Zeus.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_14]: My son, Venus, cross against thee that I did air.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_14]: Yours is the choice of punishment.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_14]: Name what thou would see done to the miscarriage and it shall be thine.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_23]: Be asked for forgiveness, my Lord.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_23]: Forgive those that did strike in us.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_23]: Got it, are you?
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_23]: What?
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_23]: I beg thee not to let their madness rule our sense of love, my Lord.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_23]: Would men say we were any better, where we to take vengeance upon those who sought to hurt us?
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_23]: Put out, Aaron's hypothesis.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_23]: These three are doomed to a hell of their own making, a hell of petty plot and scheming.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_23]: into which no light nor purity may ever reach.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_23]: Is that not punishment in math, my little?
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_14]: If you say it is, then till so got us the choice was yours and I concur.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_14]: It will be as you say Venus.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_04]: There goes one very fine woman group and I think UCLA's just lost a department her eye Venus has done with her mortal guys for the nons She has learned that she is ever a goddess and that love is needed in heaven as well as earth
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_04]: Hercules, my son, I. Father, we are mortals, ruled by immortal passions, though thou knowest all, there is still so much for us both to learn.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_04]: I, for mortals, from whence came my mother.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_14]: And I, from my son, who goes with my blessing.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you, Father.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_04]: Hercules thinks thee.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_10]: The god and the demigod grasp hands, and then... It is time, my father.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_04]: I must go back to Earth.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_04]: I have left much and done, including a lecture on myself as a myth.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_14]: Ha ha!
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_14]: It would greatly like to hear it, my son.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_14]: Could feel all of Olympus with laughter!
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_14]: Ha ha!
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_14]: Ha ha!
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_14]: I will detain thee and thy friends no longer.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_14]: Return hokeylies to thy mother's land, thou goest with the love of Zeus!
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_10]: And with butter gestures, Zeus opens a portal back to the earth.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_10]: Come, my friends, to earth.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_14]: They go, my Lord.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_14]: They are gone, Dionysus.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_14]: My Lord, does that recall that enchanted need I did brew a fortnight pass?
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_14]: Oh, Dionysus, be there any love without a doubt, my Lord.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_14]: Earth.
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_12]: Yes, my friends.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_12]: We are back.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_10]: Back.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_10]: But what happens next?
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_10]: Well, that will be revealed in a mere sixty days true believer in a tale we call murder at Malibu.
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_10]: Well, okay, this three part story is so queer.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_10]: The whole thing is crazy.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_10]: We open on Iceman Ice skating, not for the first time in the comics, as he is self-possessed by deep thoughts about his troubled love life.
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_10]: Scott, welcome back to play the role of Bobby Drake, who is the, the Petula Popsicle, which is one of his many aliases.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_03]: What was it like to play Bobby in this issue?
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_03]: The opening monologue was a lot.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, his parents did a number on him.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_03]: I can't figure out why that relationship with Lorna didn't work out.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_10]: The hilarious part if you go to this image, he's out there on the beach while Angel is in a speedo, just behind him, flirting with the black widow.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_10]: And he hardens up and just goes and's like, oh, lost it.
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_10]: It's not spin, spin, spin, pirouette, pirouette, straight, straight, straight.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_10]: I got to be straight.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_10]: Like, there's so much effort from spin.
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_10]: Very challenging energy right here.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_10]: Speaking of heterosexual characters, Adam, welcome back as the Dionysus who my word in that voice was the gayest we've ever had on the show perhaps.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_16]: It was like kind of valley girl too.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_14]: Yeah.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_14]: It says, you know, you have to just show range when you do these recordings.
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_14]: So if you've got the manliest man of Zeus, you've got to really swing the bedroom in the complete other direction.
- 1:03:44[SPEAKER_10]: And that conversation you had with yourself between Zeus and Dionysus, just pure theater man.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_14]: I want to try this meat.
- 1:03:52[SPEAKER_14]: I have to know what this meat is taste like.
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_10]: Zeus has like this kind of just like over and better than the mortals.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_10]: Like they're beneath me.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_10]: Okay, they're having wars.
- 1:04:01[SPEAKER_10]: It's fine.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_10]: But oh no, someone told me I'm acting like the mortals.
- 1:04:04[SPEAKER_10]: So now I must reverse everything.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_14]: My favorite part about, particularly in this issue, is just the ending where with Hercules, which thanks Sean for your wonderful voice acting as well.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_14]: I always love our little, like, truly, he, man, S, like, eighties, vocal track, which is just the, like, just that old school, like, eighties laughter of.
- 1:04:23[SPEAKER_14]: Like it's just my favorite thing to do.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_10]: Sean, I adore your Hercules voice.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_10]: I will probably forever hear Hercules in your voice now, actually, which makes me happy.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_10]: What do you think Hercules is going through?
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_10]: He almost had to marry a girl, gross.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_04]: I know, gross.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_04]: And it's funny because I feel like in this one, he doesn't want to marry her, but he still wants to make sure that he flirts with her to make sure he's Hercules.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I enjoyed him in this.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_04]: He had a little more range.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_04]: And I voiced him as if he was in a Spider-Man in his amazing friend.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_04]: So that's my, my page.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_10]: Two major power players in this week's episode.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_10]: I think one of them being Venus, the Goddess of Love, a number one.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_10]: I know you've been playing this character for a few minutes with us.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_10]: They've got to turn a sword into a plow and give some speeches and shoot some light from your belt.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_10]: Sorry about your career at UCLA.
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_23]: I don't need to be a teacher in real life or on the podcast.
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_23]: It was fun.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_23]: I like being able to do a little bit of magic.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_23]: I felt like I've been doing a lot for the last three episodes, so it was nice to finally get to jump in and help out a little bit.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_10]: I'm a little sad she's not sticking around with the team, but she's got to be good too.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_23]: Oh no, I get it because she has to do God stuff.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_10]: So they need love and heaven too, wink with.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_10]: I don't know man.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_10]: This guy's got something.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_10]: This guy is so full of himself.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_10]: He just, it works, right?
- 1:05:40[SPEAKER_10]: But he just says the crazy shit and he'll just be like, well, there's a nice mountain.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_10]: And they're like, okay, okay.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_10]: Uh-huh.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_10]: And he like, you don't get it.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_10]: And they're like, no, come on.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_22]: He's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like,
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_22]: All right, here's a forty five line di description about what's going on or when widow is just talking about we can't do this and he's like you're right you're coming in loud and clear and they're like what what do you mean got what do you he's like oh my god you guys don't get it you guys just don't get anything everyone's a little overwhelmed he's like look I've already met Satan this is just another Satan it's truly no big deal
- 1:06:28[SPEAKER_22]: He gets real angry, which I like.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_22]: I don't think I voiced it very well, but looking at the art, it's really well drawn.
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_22]: I feel like you can see the pain of him being like, I've dealt with people like you in the past and what you're doing is bullshit.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_22]: And I like that.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_10]: So listeners will only hear the edited version of this, but there is nonstop laughter every time Ryan Krull comes on to do the Huntsman.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_10]: Ryan will start his speeches out in this very high voice that the microphone won't pick up, but we have to make him do it over and over again.
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_10]: just screaming and rendering is so fun.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_10]: Ryan, welcome back as the Huntsman, who was defeated once someone grabbed his rod.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_16]: Yeah, I will say the views reflected by the Huntsman are not my views.
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_16]: And the way he says V-mail, I do not like.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_16]: And I don't support, but that's him.
- 1:07:16[SPEAKER_16]: The way he talked to Black Widow, I am not in support of that all.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_16]: Well, we saw some range with him today in like his different levels, which was kind of fun.
- 1:07:24[SPEAKER_16]: Yeah.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_16]: I also like the shading of what he wears.
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_16]: Yeah, the Eastern Plurgrins just adjusted the color of the world.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_16]: It's so crazy.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_10]: And the demand of finishing out around and out our cast over in Olympus playing Hippolyta who goes on later to become warrior woman in the like fearless defenders.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_10]: If you guys are familiar with this character much later on, uh, stepping in for our dear friend Sarah Starshide who was unable to attend today.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_10]: Demand, what was it like for your jump into this world of Olympus with mutates and amazons?
- 1:07:54[SPEAKER_26]: Well, yeah, I had, I really had to sit down and prepare for this role.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_26]: It was extremely demanding.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_26]: It took a lot of effort.
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_26]: I got fifteen minutes before we hopped on the Zoom.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_26]: Chad texted me to be like, hey, Sarah can't come.
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_26]: Are you free?
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_26]: And I was like, well, wait, who do I have to be?
- 1:08:12[SPEAKER_26]: And he's like, a pod.
- 1:08:12[SPEAKER_26]: I was like, okay, cool.
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_26]: She had seven lines.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_26]: If that.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_26]: So, um, you're welcome, everyone.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_26]: I feel a little like Judy Dungeon Shakespeare in love, really.
- 1:08:23[SPEAKER_10]: I love that they're like all these evil people, and also Hippolyta, but kind of feels like she was just along for the ride a little bit.
- 1:08:29[SPEAKER_26]: She, it's definitely the, uh, like lady villains can't be as bad as the male villains because women aren't bad, uh, kind of, kind of tropey thing.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_26]: Right, and then like she pulls her sword that's like we're gonna turn it into a plow.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_26]: Bunk on the head.
- 1:08:45[SPEAKER_26]: Good night, lady.
- 1:08:49[SPEAKER_14]: A lot of people did talk shit about.
- 1:08:50[SPEAKER_14]: All right, guys, Zeus did a lot.
- 1:08:52[SPEAKER_14]: Like, I just feel like her name comes up a lot.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_14]: And for someone who's not really doing any of the entire shit.
- 1:08:58[SPEAKER_14]: Yes, she's just chilling.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_12]: Just hoarding.
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_12]: I mean, she just wants to get with hercules.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_12]: And I think it's really fitting that Venus turns it into a plow.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_12]: Like, it's kind of a pun.
- 1:09:07[SPEAKER_12]: Like, she gets plowed.
- 1:09:09[SPEAKER_12]: Get it.
- 1:09:09[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, sure, but also she lives on an island full of women, right?
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_10]: Like, I kind of get it.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_10]: And I understand.
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_10]: We had Kaylin reprising his role as Pluto, the Lord of the Underworld, who tried to take over the planet with logic, but got out logic by Ghost Rider.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_10]: Wow, it just humiliated a defeat.
- 1:09:26[SPEAKER_11]: I can't relate to that at all.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_11]: Pluto went out like for a god of the underworld.
- 1:09:30[SPEAKER_11]: He went out like a bitch.
- 1:09:32[SPEAKER_11]: I mean, he was like a total like Zeus X Machina at the very end.
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_11]: Like he completely just like folded.
- 1:09:38[SPEAKER_10]: Then we have this opening page of Angel and Black Widow looking so fucking hot.
- 1:09:45[SPEAKER_10]: Candy Southern better not ever look over in this direction because she would be upset.
- 1:09:50[SPEAKER_10]: Black Widow looking
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_05]: Donning in her black bikini angel in his little tiny like red spew wow Angel the Boy Scout black widow who's just like ranting about like how unfair the world is for women and expressions both I think Angel's a little bit more of a dick in this issue than he was in the first three I don't it's been a while since I've flirted with a woman but I don't think I would have spoken to widow like that if I was have but you know that that's his preference I suppose
- 1:10:20[SPEAKER_10]: Well, I followed your orders last time, so I guess I can do it again.
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_10]: I'm really enjoying his, his like, boy scout energy here, though.
- 1:10:26[SPEAKER_10]: He's very like, well, and Andrew's gonna burst into heaven this time, like he's so silly.
- 1:10:31[SPEAKER_10]: And Christie.
- 1:10:32[SPEAKER_12]: Yeah, I second, they both look fantastic, which I mean, you know, I was really confused.
- 1:10:38[SPEAKER_12]: I thought I had the wrong issue at first, because I was like, didn't they just like get their butts kicked, did like their friends were taken, and like they're just
- 1:10:46[SPEAKER_12]: lounge and around and in bikinis and spinos now, but I was like, nope, this is how this one starts.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_12]: Awesome.
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_26]: It's her worrying swimsuit.
- 1:10:55[SPEAKER_26]: She's worried.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_12]: Right, and obviously she has a white woman and a former Russian knows exactly what it's like to be immune in this world.
- 1:11:08[SPEAKER_12]: Definitely a problematic ally of Black Widow.
- 1:11:12[SPEAKER_11]: She's X-Russian.
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_10]: She's just like her nationality.
- 1:11:16[SPEAKER_10]: She's affected to the United States at this point.
- 1:11:20[SPEAKER_10]: If this will have been out by the time we released this episode, but we just did the whole trial of Colossus on my show, like the week before this episode is released, where we talk a lot about the way the Soviet Union is portraying comics over the decades.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_10]: Colossus really changed the game, and that's right before this issue comes out.
- 1:11:36[SPEAKER_10]: Give that a listen.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_10]: So the commentary on a black widow is an X Russian.
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_10]: She's basically a defector and there's some commentary on that in the classes trial.
- 1:11:45[SPEAKER_10]: So so good to go check that out.
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_10]: We'll we'll we'll teach you all about it.
- 1:11:48[SPEAKER_10]: Watching Michael hand trying to get through the the mountain ice man's mountain is big and hard frozen as ever.
- 1:11:54[SPEAKER_22]: So I gave it my best shot.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_22]: I promise I swear I
- 1:11:59[SPEAKER_22]: I had read that line multiple times and I was like, don't deliver it like a pervert, don't deliver it like a pervert and you get a pardon for us.
- 1:12:08[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, and sadly delivered as a pervert.
- 1:12:12[SPEAKER_11]: I want to shout out my fellow podcaster Adam for not only doing Zeus, but also doing a Dionysus going back and forth between the two, giving us like Lindsey Graham as Dionysus.
- 1:12:24[SPEAKER_11]: I think that was absolutely fantastic.
- 1:12:26[SPEAKER_14]: Scott, I feel like baby it's because you're inherent connection to the ice man like material but I just find it so funny for you to be reading like the eighties ice man who hasn't come out yet because of just ear the like Jimmy D. Jellakers type like lines really work not even eighties mid seventies
- 1:12:46[SPEAKER_14]: Yeah.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_19]: Oh boy.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_26]: Just Ryan screaming over and over again in silence is my absolute favorite part and well worth being called in last minute.
- 1:12:58[SPEAKER_26]: For sure.
- 1:12:59[SPEAKER_10]: Christy once again chewing the scenery is the black widow just you light up every time you speak it makes me happy and watching all of you react to each other's lives is my favorite part of this way.
- 1:13:09[SPEAKER_10]: I'll get to see each other on cameras.
- 1:13:10[SPEAKER_10]: We're recording.
- 1:13:11[SPEAKER_04]: They add them.
- 1:13:12[SPEAKER_04]: I always love hearing your voices.
- 1:13:13[SPEAKER_04]: You're crazy.
- 1:13:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, voices you.
- 1:13:15[SPEAKER_04]: bring in.
- 1:13:16[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_14]: I was going to, well, I already shouted you out earlier for her kiss, which I love.
- 1:13:21[SPEAKER_14]: And then number one, I loved to her.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_14]: I think it was with the Hippolyta and Venus Battle.
- 1:13:27[SPEAKER_14]: Your voice is giving cut.
- 1:13:29[SPEAKER_14]: I loved it.
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_23]: I try sometimes.
- 1:13:31[SPEAKER_23]: Thank you.
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_10]: The delightful story is, and it's not for fifty years that Tony Isabella comes out as Jenny.
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_10]: As trans, it's only in the last year that's happened reading these from a queer lens is so much easier with you.
- 1:13:48[SPEAKER_10]: It's really great.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_10]: I don't know.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_10]: I didn't know Jenny back in the nineteen seventies that these are so delightfully queer.
- 1:13:53[SPEAKER_10]: It makes me so happy.
- 1:13:55[SPEAKER_12]: Shout out to my favorite out-of-character lines of Ryan denouncing the use of female.
- 1:14:00[SPEAKER_12]: I really appreciate that.
- 1:14:02[SPEAKER_12]: Absolutely hate it.
- 1:14:03[SPEAKER_12]: And also, I think it was Mike who said it's been a long time since I've flirted with a woman.
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_12]: Like, on point.
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_12]: Thank you.
- 1:14:14[SPEAKER_10]: This has been so fun to follow Angel and Bobby into this series.
- 1:14:19[SPEAKER_10]: I'm having so much fun recording these with you.
- 1:14:21[SPEAKER_10]: We're doing like four separate script groups now, which is crazy, which is the big announcement I get to make at the end of this.
- 1:14:26[SPEAKER_10]: Everybody stay tuned next week.
- 1:14:28[SPEAKER_10]: We get to introduce Brian Braddock, Captain Britain to the show with a script reading of his first couple of adventures in the mid- nineteen seventies.
- 1:14:36[SPEAKER_10]: I wasn't going to do scripts, but then I'm like, oh, these are so
- 1:14:39[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, can't be in silly.
- 1:14:40[SPEAKER_10]: And we also recently did an episode of the Patreon that really dubbed into the world of defenders.
- 1:14:45[SPEAKER_10]: And I'm like, oh my God, I want to read these two, but there's no X-Men character.
- 1:14:48[SPEAKER_10]: I have to draw the light somewhere.
- 1:14:49[SPEAKER_10]: So we've got the X-Men group, the Avengers group, the Champions group, and now the Captain Britain group.
- 1:14:54[SPEAKER_10]: I hope you're all enjoying.
- 1:14:55[SPEAKER_10]: It's so fun to have talented, nerdy, wonderful, intelligent people on this show.
- 1:14:59[SPEAKER_10]: Thank you.
- 1:15:00[SPEAKER_10]: Thank you all for cultivating this wonderful community that I am so grateful to be a part of.
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_10]: I'd love to hear any final thoughts, but as we are wrapping up, where can people find you online?
- 1:15:09[SPEAKER_10]: Is there anything you want to plug for early August to twenty twenty five?
- 1:15:14[SPEAKER_10]: We will just be wrapping up the uncanny experience in the week before this is released.
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_10]: I'm so excited to see so many of you that are on this call.
- 1:15:21[SPEAKER_10]: They're live huge hugs for all of you.
- 1:15:23[SPEAKER_10]: I can't wait to nerd out and just chill the fuck out for a few days.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_10]: It's an intense time in America in June twenty twenty five.
- 1:15:29[SPEAKER_10]: We record these two months in advance.
- 1:15:31[SPEAKER_10]: I already announced the next episode on the show, but you also get to perhaps watch for my first interview with Mr. Kieran Gillin, who I used to correspond with back when I was a Marvel handbook writer a bajillion years ago.
- 1:15:42[SPEAKER_10]: I'm so excited to have Kieran on the show, especially for the premier Brian Braddock.
- 1:15:46[SPEAKER_10]: And over on the picture and you get to watch for an episode next, all about the dream queen, who talking about serving Kant.
- 1:15:52[SPEAKER_10]: This is the most serving Kant character in all of Marvel history, perhaps, with my friends Marcy Rockwell and Darrell Lawrence.
- 1:15:58[SPEAKER_10]: Follow the show at Grimalk in under score lane, and I can't wait to see each of you online.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_10]: Again, what a joyful time to be creating this each with you.
- 1:16:06[SPEAKER_14]: I have had so much fun being on this podcast.

- 1:17:27[SPEAKER_11]: And once again, Chad, thanks so much for asking me to reprise my role as Pluto.
- 1:17:32[SPEAKER_11]: Just a lot of fun showing that scenery.
- 1:17:34[SPEAKER_10]: Love hanging out every time I will be doing my fashion panel back at Flamcon as well.

- 1:18:04[SPEAKER_22]: Well Chad, thank you for having me again.
- 1:18:06[SPEAKER_22]: I love these comics.
- 1:18:08[SPEAKER_22]: I've never read a lot of the early seventy stuff other than X-Men.
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_22]: So it's curious to see how crazy some of these issues are.
- 1:18:16[SPEAKER_22]: And this is the only way I'd ever be introduced to the champions.
- 1:18:19[SPEAKER_22]: So thank you for that because it's insane.
- 1:18:21[SPEAKER_22]: You can find me on Instagram at hammy seventy three.
- 1:18:24[SPEAKER_22]: You can find my cosplay at Michael.ham.com.
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_22]: cause play, and now that I hear everyone's going to flame con, I might try to go to flame con because I'll be in New York until like the twelfth.
- 1:18:34[SPEAKER_22]: So why not just extend it into the fifteenth to seventeen?
- 1:18:37[SPEAKER_10]: We must have a cocktail, we must.
- 1:18:39[SPEAKER_22]: Yes, and then I'll very likely be at FanExpo Canada for any Canadians who are kicking us the weekend after something like that.

- 1:19:13[SPEAKER_16]: So I guess I'll have to rest this voice and try for something new.
- 1:19:16[SPEAKER_10]: Uh, follow Ryan at the squeaky Huntsman on Instagram.
- 1:19:20[SPEAKER_16]: It's an only fans.

- 1:19:27[SPEAKER_05]: I hope to be out a couple more zine fest this year.
- 1:19:30[SPEAKER_05]: So I will have been in Chicago.
- 1:19:31[SPEAKER_05]: I guess already by the time this comes out, but I'm hoping to be at Denver zine fest.
- 1:19:36[SPEAKER_05]: And we're Cisco zine fest and maybe Sandy was in fest later in the year.
- 1:19:39[SPEAKER_05]: It's been really amazing being part of this.
- 1:19:41[SPEAKER_05]: I know I'm probably the least creative voice of this cast, but you've all been really sweet and wonderful and a joy to watch.
- 1:19:51[SPEAKER_05]: I feel honored to be a part of this group.
- 1:19:53[SPEAKER_05]: So thank you all.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_10]: Glad to have you here.
- 1:19:55[SPEAKER_03]: And by Mike's book branches, it's wonderful Scott.
- 1:19:58[SPEAKER_03]: We'll send a grandma online and probably hurt me on here before.
- 1:20:01[SPEAKER_03]: I'm so sorry.
- 1:20:01[SPEAKER_03]: At least once.
- 1:20:03[SPEAKER_03]: At least once.
- 1:20:04[SPEAKER_03]: Mr. Scott Frey, I'm most social media.
- 1:20:06[SPEAKER_03]: This is coming out in August.
- 1:20:08[SPEAKER_03]: First episode of ViPodic house should have dropped on July first and then the fifteenth because we like scheduling things.
- 1:20:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's about Ben Riley.
- 1:20:15[SPEAKER_03]: It's called the Clone Conspiracy.
- 1:20:17[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be at Flamcon as noted heterosexual Mysterio.
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_03]: If I walk past you, it's because I'm wearing the fishbowl or because I don't want to talk to you.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_10]: This is the third time I think you've plugged your show on my show and I'm still waiting.
- 1:20:29[SPEAKER_10]: So we'll see.
- 1:20:31[SPEAKER_10]: Wow, Chad.
- 1:20:33[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, I know.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_10]: And everyone you'll be glad to know in the chat.
- 1:20:35[SPEAKER_10]: Christy Porter, Mike Rossi and Scott Free have all agreed to reenact the first page of today's issue with the Speedos and the Pirouettes.
- 1:20:42[SPEAKER_10]: So watch for that on, like, I'm joking.
- 1:20:44[SPEAKER_10]: Obviously, I'm going to wear my bikini.
- 1:20:48[SPEAKER_10]: All right, everybody, thank you so much for listening.
- 1:20:49[SPEAKER_10]: I hope you had a delightful time.
- 1:20:51[SPEAKER_10]: We'll see you back here next week with Brian Braddock on Green Walk in Lane.
- 1:20:54[SPEAKER_10]: And now stay tuned for some thoughts on fascism as a special guest tonight talked about a red skull story and its modern applications.
- 1:21:04[SPEAKER_10]: After the Nazi successfully invaded France, Hitler hoped that Great Britain would follow, but they showed no signs of surrender.
- 1:21:11[SPEAKER_10]: So in nineteen thirty nine, Hitler launched the little-known Operation Sea Lion.
- 1:21:15[SPEAKER_10]: He put a few reluctant agents in charge of the complete disabling of the British army, and then he planned to set up an entire puppet government that would serve the whims of Germany while pretending to run Great Britain.
- 1:21:26[SPEAKER_10]: A list of people who should be executed or imprisoned was generated, including key resistance officials, intellectuals, and members of the Jewish religion, or the Jewish race.
- 1:21:37[SPEAKER_10]: But the plot failed to gain any ground and just kind of fizzled out, died on the vine.
- 1:21:41[SPEAKER_10]: A few years later, in nineteen forty three, the Allies put together a new force with Dwight D. Eisenhower as the Supreme Commander of a group called Shave S-H-A-E-F or the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force.
- 1:21:55[SPEAKER_10]: The Allied Druped to Command of Military Operations, leading to events like Operation Overlord, the Normandy Invasion, and even D-Day.
- 1:22:03[SPEAKER_10]: But other groups were formed before and after this, most notably OSS are the Office of Strategic Services.
- 1:22:08[SPEAKER_10]: Okay, we're going to jump to Captain Britain, uh, fifteen through nineteen.
- 1:22:12[SPEAKER_10]: This is an early nineteen seventy seven by Gary Friedrich and her, her trippy.
- 1:22:16[SPEAKER_10]: Captain Britain has become aware of the sentient super computer mastermind in London.
- 1:22:20[SPEAKER_10]: It's super dangerous.
- 1:22:21[SPEAKER_10]: So he teams with up with Captain America and they rushed to Braddock Manor, which is the home of the secret identity of Captain Britain, uh, Brian Radik.
- 1:22:29[SPEAKER_10]: In order to fight the red skull, who has taken over the mastermind computer, but also the red skull has captured Jamie and Betsy Radik, the two siblings of Brian.
- 1:22:38[SPEAKER_10]: who are very little explored characters at this point in the continuity.
- 1:22:41[SPEAKER_10]: They are tied to chairs.
- 1:22:43[SPEAKER_10]: Red School traps the two captains, Britain, and Captain America, and floods the room with poison gas while calling them Shfinewons.
- 1:22:51[SPEAKER_10]: You have no chance your obstacles that must be removed to make room for their red skull and the glorious birth of the fourth right.
- 1:22:57[SPEAKER_10]: It's very sixties Batman energy.
- 1:22:59[SPEAKER_10]: But he also has a loyal agent within the organization called Strike, which is a group serving the British government, standing for the special tactical reserve for international key emergencies.
- 1:23:10[SPEAKER_10]: This guy's name is Todd Radcliffe.
- 1:23:11[SPEAKER_10]: He plans to conquer Britain for the Nazis.
- 1:23:13[SPEAKER_10]: Anyway, Braddock Manor ends up getting bombed.
- 1:23:16[SPEAKER_10]: The cover of Issue-nineteen shows red skull in his green robes in blazing with a swastika.
- 1:23:21[SPEAKER_10]: Nick Fury shows up representing shield another acronym for Marvel.
- 1:23:25[SPEAKER_10]: And Fury manages to kill Radcliffe with a poison dart hidden inside of a cigar, which is just a baller move.
- 1:23:31[SPEAKER_10]: At the end of this, the world believes Captain Britain and Captain America to be dead, and we'll pick up on this story again next time.
- 1:23:38[SPEAKER_10]: But first, let me welcome my friend Paul Jenkins back to the show to talk about this crazy story with me.
- 1:23:43[SPEAKER_10]: Paul, how are you?
- 1:23:44[SPEAKER_10]: And are you a red skull fan?
- 1:23:46[SPEAKER_00]: Am I a red skull fan?
- 1:23:48[SPEAKER_00]: What ideologically?
- 1:23:49[SPEAKER_00]: Probably not, no, but yeah, this stuff is great because you've got Captain Britain in it, so we've actually got our own captain.
- 1:23:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's fantastic.
- 1:23:58[SPEAKER_00]: A red skull fan in the sense that he's a fantastically one-dimensional evil guy in some ways, but then again, aren't Nazis?
- 1:24:08[SPEAKER_00]: fantastically one-dimensional evil guys.
- 1:24:09[SPEAKER_00]: So you pretty much fits the bill.
- 1:24:11[SPEAKER_00]: And this story, like many of it's time, I would imagine, is pretty on the nose about certain aspects inside.
- 1:24:19[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, it's been interesting.
- 1:24:20[SPEAKER_10]: I've done a number of these episodes.
- 1:24:21[SPEAKER_10]: Now, the Red School represents the baseline of evil in the Marvel Universe, which is always fascism, always.
- 1:24:27[SPEAKER_10]: But they put them as this kind of mustache twirling, crazy villain who ties people to chairs and floods rooms while calling people shfine balloons, right?
- 1:24:35[SPEAKER_10]: I would love for you to share a little bit of your relationship with the character Captain Britain for people who may not be familiar.
- 1:24:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so Captain Britain and I need to qualify this because I do we did talk offline and I'm gonna start with that.
- 1:24:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm leading with this.
- 1:24:47[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:48[SPEAKER_00]: So Captain Britain apparently to Americans is quite funny, which I think is what disappointing.
- 1:24:53[SPEAKER_00]: I recently a few minutes before we got on.
- 1:24:56[SPEAKER_00]: I told my wife that I was getting on with you and she said, what was it about?
- 1:24:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, well, we're just talking about Captain Britain and she burst out into fits of laughter and she put the chicken on stop.
- 1:25:05[SPEAKER_00]: I said, what's so funny about Captain Britain?
- 1:25:08[SPEAKER_00]: And she said, well, it's absurd, isn't it?
- 1:25:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Captain Britain, I'm so Captain America is the Paragon of Virtue, but they're Captain Britain who dresses up in a British union Jack is apparently very silly.
- 1:25:19[SPEAKER_00]: And she then went on to tell me that James Bond was American anyway, so why am I complaining?
- 1:25:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I've realized I'm not going to win this fight, Jack, right?
- 1:25:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'll never win this fight, sir.
- 1:25:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a fight.
- 1:25:29[SPEAKER_00]: I already, I already surrender.
- 1:25:31[SPEAKER_10]: I mean, you've got the facts to bag it up.
- 1:25:32[SPEAKER_10]: It's all right.
- 1:25:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I got the facts back up, but I was like this, right?
- 1:25:36[SPEAKER_00]: I am a student of history and I come from a family who were directly affected by fascism in any number of ways.
- 1:25:43[SPEAKER_00]: My grandparents lived through the Blitz and London.
- 1:25:45[SPEAKER_00]: My mother lived through the Blitz and even to this day, she's very old now, but she cries if she hears a sound of a siren.
- 1:25:52[SPEAKER_00]: It gives her PTSD and it really bad way.
- 1:25:54[SPEAKER_00]: And even to this day, she wakes up
- 1:25:55[SPEAKER_00]: quite often at night yelling.
- 1:25:56[SPEAKER_00]: So what this did to an entire nation of people is pretty hard in actual real terms, right?
- 1:26:04[SPEAKER_00]: My grandfather Bill was on a merchant navy ship and he was sunk and he lost a lot of his friends.
- 1:26:09[SPEAKER_00]: My family's given a lot.
- 1:26:10[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of my family have died in these various conflicts and my wife's family.
- 1:26:14[SPEAKER_10]: And to give a little context in the next episode, we're going to keep talking more about Britain.
- 1:26:18[SPEAKER_10]: And I'm going to talk a lot about about the the air raids and the bombing, but forty thousand British civilians died during this time.
- 1:26:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:26:25[SPEAKER_10]: Like a quarter thousand thing that went on for a long, long time.
- 1:26:28[SPEAKER_00]: But it's very interesting.
- 1:26:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to get a little deeper than just Captain Britain.
- 1:26:32[SPEAKER_00]: I kept in Britain as fantastic because he's a great character.
- 1:26:34[SPEAKER_00]: He had his own little bit, right?
- 1:26:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he was, he was off Captain America.
- 1:26:38[SPEAKER_00]: We loved him, right?
- 1:26:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a little bit like Canadians when I wrote the origin of Wolverine.
- 1:26:43[SPEAKER_00]: They were really worried for the first few issues because it didn't specifically say that he was born in Alberta and so it looked like he might be coming from Nebraska.
- 1:26:51[SPEAKER_00]: I did a convention up in Canada and I hadn't said that he was Canadians specifically and I had a lot of people really unhappy with me.
- 1:26:59[SPEAKER_00]: Then it came out that it was all set in Alberta and I said, I told you so I don't went to another convention and they just brought me food and hugged me and kissed me and said, thank you so much, right?
- 1:27:08[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I don't think we have that reverence for Captain Britain, but I do think that we, we Brit kind of love them because we were like, well, we've got one, right?
- 1:27:16[SPEAKER_00]: There's no reason why we kind of won and stories like this that deal with.
- 1:27:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's an interesting one because it's an American's version of what might have happened and that's very different from the lived British experience, right?
- 1:27:27[SPEAKER_00]: even to this day.
- 1:27:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I was a little kid born years after the war, but even to this day, if my kids waste food, I don't like it because my grandparents went through rationing.
- 1:27:36[SPEAKER_00]: And so we never wasted anything.
- 1:27:38[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think when you see a character like this, it represents things that the innocence can't be American.
- 1:27:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't mean that in any disparaging way.
- 1:27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Americans did not have that battle on their front doorstep.
- 1:27:50[SPEAKER_00]: Americans instead,
- 1:27:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's something that was incredible.
- 1:27:54[SPEAKER_00]: They sent an entire generation of young men and women, right?
- 1:27:58[SPEAKER_00]: But they sent an generation of young men to fight for other people's freedoms on the battlefields of Europe and Japan.
- 1:28:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's incredible.
- 1:28:05[SPEAKER_00]: But what they didn't have was Hitler breathing down the neck for the first few years of the war, right?
- 1:28:10[SPEAKER_00]: So when we have Captain Britain, that means a lot to us because he's like, oh, god, right?
- 1:28:14[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I was like this.
- 1:28:16[SPEAKER_00]: He represents the British wartime spirit and the things that Americans couldn't possibly understand.
- 1:28:20[SPEAKER_10]: Right, right, it's a very different experience.
- 1:28:22[SPEAKER_10]: I think the only relation for Americans at the time would have been Pearl Harbor, which just isn't the same level of intensity.
- 1:28:28[SPEAKER_10]: When we kind of mix this story, which is a silly little fun, you know, campy, seventy story in with this kind of real world example.
- 1:28:36[SPEAKER_10]: I'm glad that you brought James Bond up already.
- 1:28:38[SPEAKER_10]: I'm pretty sure James Bond is American.
- 1:28:39[SPEAKER_10]: I'm just kidding.
- 1:28:40[SPEAKER_10]: But we have the super spice stuff, right?
- 1:28:42[SPEAKER_10]: Because that's the Nick Fury stuff.
- 1:28:43[SPEAKER_10]: We get the acronyms, we get strike, and we get shield.
- 1:28:46[SPEAKER_10]: She, by the way, is the originally called the Supreme Headquarters International Espionage and Law Enforcement Division.
- 1:28:53[SPEAKER_10]: So like a direct parallel of the real world's shape that I mentioned earlier.
- 1:28:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:28:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Supreme Headquarters is about like pounds of Europe.
- 1:28:59[SPEAKER_10]: Right, yeah, and then we have strike, which is the other fictional one that we see in the Captain Britain mythos.
- 1:29:04[SPEAKER_10]: We see Red Skull with an agent within the government.
- 1:29:06[SPEAKER_10]: So Red Skull has the big plot where he's capturing the heroes, he's tie in the rich white kids up in the manner to the chairs and flood in the room, right?
- 1:29:13[SPEAKER_10]: Because he wants to destroy the symbols of nationalism.
- 1:29:16[SPEAKER_10]: But meanwhile, he's got this secret guy in the government who's ready to turn the whole thing his direction, which is the thing we're seeing in, you know, America, in twenty twenty five with, let's light this fire over here that everyone can look at while the secret thing is happening over there.
- 1:29:28[SPEAKER_10]: But Nick Fury luckily has a poison dart hidden in his cigar, so it all turned out okay.
- 1:29:34[SPEAKER_10]: What was it like for you to read these old stories?
- 1:29:36[SPEAKER_10]: There's some fun silly cat moments, but also a lot of real-world applications.
- 1:29:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's real-world applications because one of the things that I would always say about my own work at Marvel is if you were to ask me which is my favorite work and which was my most proud of it.
- 1:29:48[SPEAKER_00]: It was Captain America.
- 1:29:49[SPEAKER_00]: I wrote five issues.
- 1:29:50[SPEAKER_00]: One of them is very famously.
- 1:29:53[SPEAKER_00]: So Chris Evans, not many people know this.
- 1:29:55[SPEAKER_00]: I learned this on a year or two ago.
- 1:29:57[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Evans apparently walked around set as Captain America for the duration of his work with a copy of one book that he walked around with the whole time and it was a copy of Mythos by myself and Palo Rivera.
- 1:30:07[SPEAKER_00]: Because we wrote the quintessential kind of patriotic story of Captain America.
- 1:30:13[SPEAKER_00]: Why did he join?
- 1:30:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because he wanted to be in the seventeenth Infantry of the Blue Spaders because he never knew his father.
- 1:30:19[SPEAKER_00]: as far as Richmond.
- 1:30:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I think what is kind of cool when we get the right things in comics is that we don't have to write Django as on which it's stupid.
- 1:30:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we're number one is just dumb.
- 1:30:29[SPEAKER_00]: You're not number number one because you showed up in yelled really loudly.
- 1:30:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's never the case.
- 1:30:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's where
- 1:30:34[SPEAKER_00]: fascism gets its root right in this like accidentally fake identity of perfection and demeaning other people basically saying then I'm good because we are number one right instead fascism can never stand against true patriotism and I think that what I spent my time writing about was was patriotism absolutely yeah
- 1:30:53[SPEAKER_00]: I want to I want to give you an anecdote and it's something that I just wrote about myself actually on my Facebook page.
- 1:30:58[SPEAKER_00]: So last year I was in Great Britain and my brother and I were very in my dad's ashes at his regiment in in Cornwall.
- 1:31:06[SPEAKER_00]: He was in the jica corn was like infantry.
- 1:31:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I went over there and my dad had actually passed away a few years ago.
- 1:31:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm smiling, but basically my brother said that you got to come over to Britain because dad's turning into a lump of concrete.
- 1:31:17[SPEAKER_00]: And we were like, okay, that's very Jenkins.
- 1:31:20[SPEAKER_00]: So when over there, and we did the thing, well, let me tell you, this was on the anniversary of D days, the eight to fifth anniversary and what you have to understand.
- 1:31:26[SPEAKER_00]: The stand is what people actually think of Americans, not what you're told, but what is actually happening in Europe.
- 1:31:32[SPEAKER_00]: The local vicar starts talking at my dad's ceremony, and he says, eighty five years ago today, and within two minutes he said, but let's remember our friends from America.
- 1:31:41[SPEAKER_00]: So they're all stationed in Bodmin at the Duke of Corn was an infantry.
- 1:31:44[SPEAKER_00]: There's a big plaque there that says, with reverence to our American friends who came over here.
- 1:31:49[SPEAKER_00]: my mum was a little girl and she said that she had all these friends the first time she ever tasted a banana in American G.I.
- 1:31:56[SPEAKER_00]: gave it to her and then one day all of her friends were gone and they woke up the next morning really early and they were on their way to school I think or they were certainly up early and they saw the gliders go over.
- 1:32:04[SPEAKER_00]: And you have to understand that the chances of surviving a glider landing in France were probably about forty-five percent.
- 1:32:11[SPEAKER_00]: That means fifty-five percent of the young men that went over and those gliders died, just for being in a glider.
- 1:32:17[SPEAKER_00]: The scale of it was massive.
- 1:32:19[SPEAKER_00]: And so later on, my brother and I, I was in Kent in England, I was there with my wife and my two kids.
- 1:32:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I showed them, hey, this is where I grew up.
- 1:32:27[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this is just south of London.
- 1:32:29[SPEAKER_00]: I said, do you know why those trees have
- 1:32:30[SPEAKER_00]: have thin tree trunks compared to the rest and the answer was we're walking in shell holes from v one and v two rockets.
- 1:32:35[SPEAKER_00]: Specifically v one rockets.
- 1:32:37[SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't quite get to London until they perfected the rockets and so they would land in these forests, right?
- 1:32:41[SPEAKER_00]: The very next day my brother and I went to France, we went to my great grandfather's grave and we
- 1:32:46[SPEAKER_00]: went to say hi to him and then on the way back we went to a place called The Blockhouse which was the place where they set off all the V-ONE rockets and it was built on the back of thirty five thousand Spanish students that were basically killed in the endeavor of building this facility and they were Spanish dissidents and so I know this is kind of heavy but you have to understand one more one day I'm standing where they landed next down stand where they got sent off set off
- 1:33:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to visit my great grandfather's grave in France.
- 1:33:10[SPEAKER_00]: And what you have to understand about Calais is that you land in Calais and you start driving in this American cemeteries, British cemeteries, French cemeteries, and in America, people don't remember those old boys in some ways.
- 1:33:22[SPEAKER_00]: I live next door to a guy who was on the USS and Lewis, my youngest son is named after him because I cared, right?
- 1:33:28[SPEAKER_00]: Because that meant so much.
- 1:33:30[SPEAKER_00]: You take those same old men to France.
- 1:33:32[SPEAKER_00]: and they are worshiped, they're revered because of what they did.
- 1:33:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the shame of fascism and if we look at what fascism might be doing right now is that there is a massive love and reverence for the United States of America and what the Americas meant to the world.
- 1:33:48[SPEAKER_00]: And to watch that be damaged is the biggest loss to me.
- 1:33:51[SPEAKER_00]: And there are lots of losses, but that's a big loss because America has only ever been seen.
- 1:33:57[SPEAKER_00]: French people adore Americans.
- 1:33:59[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, embarrassing, watching what's happening these days.
- 1:34:02[SPEAKER_10]: It really, it's a rough thing.
- 1:34:04[SPEAKER_10]: And these are serious conversations.
- 1:34:06[SPEAKER_10]: We're basing them in silly superhero antics.
- 1:34:08[SPEAKER_10]: And you know, that's where we get to get lost in superhero adventure.
- 1:34:11[SPEAKER_10]: One of the reasons these red school conversations are so fascinating is because of these real world applications.
- 1:34:16[SPEAKER_10]: Well Paul, I'm going to capture something in real time while we're talking.
- 1:34:19[SPEAKER_10]: I'm assuming you have not read the newest Wolverine books that have just come out.
- 1:34:22[SPEAKER_00]: I have not read the news for free.
- 1:34:24[SPEAKER_10]: So the new volume the new volume volume eight is by a solidy num ed if you're following and there's a lot of crazy things happening but a couple months ago and we don't know how this is playing out yet, but it's fun to have you live for this Wolverine gets a knock at the door and there is a letter dropped off.
- 1:34:40[SPEAKER_10]: I'm going to read you the content of this letter just published it like last month by a solidy num ed.
- 1:34:44[SPEAKER_10]: My dearest and most precious James, I've been told that you now answer to the name Logan, the significance of that choice, racks my heart with guilt forced as it was by my treacherous hand.
- 1:34:54[SPEAKER_10]: Still, I find it impossible to think of you as anything other than my sweet and loving James.
- 1:34:57[SPEAKER_10]: So James, I shall call you in this missive.
- 1:34:59[SPEAKER_10]: I know beloved boy that my horror and treatment of you has rendered void any claim I am I to have had to your familial loyalties, but our family's enemies are closing in on me and I cannot face the threat they pose alone.
- 1:35:09[SPEAKER_10]: So though I have no right to do so, I must write on this ominous feeling evening to ask for your help James.
- 1:35:14[SPEAKER_10]: I don't doubt that you resent me deeply and that your first impulse will be to refuse me, but I hope at the least that you will make some time to meet again after all these years.
- 1:35:23[SPEAKER_10]: If only to learn why I was forced to treat you so poorly as well as the consequences of my remarkable and miraculous survival.
- 1:35:29[SPEAKER_10]: But the apologetic can affect you.
- 1:35:31[SPEAKER_10]: I remain eternally.
- 1:35:32[SPEAKER_10]: You're a remorseful and repentant mother.
- 1:35:34[SPEAKER_10]: Elizabeth Howley.
- 1:35:37[UNKNOWN]: Wow.
- 1:35:37[SPEAKER_10]: There's a full page image of Wolverine.
- 1:35:39[SPEAKER_10]: I'll send you a speech shot.
- 1:35:40[SPEAKER_10]: Like, going the letter, there's an image of his mother floating and he goes, mwah.
- 1:35:46[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, that's pretty good.
- 1:35:46[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 1:35:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a really great use of her.
- 1:35:49[SPEAKER_00]: We did a thing.
- 1:35:50[SPEAKER_00]: It was always implied, and I want people don't remember as much as I wrote over in the end, and I explained some of what was going on in Wolverine.
- 1:35:57[SPEAKER_00]: So, if you see the original origin, she, the girl, walks in, and she, the mother, is getting dressed, and she has scars on the lower back.
- 1:36:04[SPEAKER_00]: That will cause by the first time.
- 1:36:06[SPEAKER_10]: We got to talk about that one, I interviewed you on the show a little bit.
- 1:36:09[SPEAKER_10]: The clothes that made her vids.
- 1:36:11[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, so I'll keep you posted.
- 1:36:12[SPEAKER_10]: I'll let you know what's going on, but fun to have that.
- 1:36:15[SPEAKER_10]: Drop back.
- 1:36:15[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, this is fantastic.
- 1:36:16[SPEAKER_10]: Paul, it's delightful.
- 1:36:18[SPEAKER_10]: I love corresponding every time.
- 1:36:20[SPEAKER_10]: Thank you so much for your time today.
- 1:36:21[SPEAKER_10]: And for sharing some of your family's story as always, you're just a delightful person.
- 1:36:25[SPEAKER_10]: So I really appreciate your time today.
- 1:36:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'd also thank you so much.
- 1:36:28[SPEAKER_10]: Thanks everybody.
