- 0:12be praised. You are the most high God.
- 0:15You're the only God. You're the only uncreated.
- 0:19Every other God is an idol. So, Lord, we break down all the
- 0:24idols that we have formed in our own minds.
- 0:28Lord, we breakdown all the images, God, that we have built
- 0:32up within our own self. God, I pray that you'll help us
- 0:36to kick them out and pulverize them in the mighty name of Jesus
- 0:40into dust. God, we crush the head of
- 0:44opposition under our feet. In the mighty name of Jesus, we
- 0:48rebuke all opposition. Father, I pray for mental
- 0:53clarity. God, I pray for a place of
- 0:56peace. Lord, I pray that we can step in
- 1:00to the holiest of holy places. God, I pray that we can step in
- 1:05and dine and Sup with you. God, we want to see you rightly
- 1:09cover us with the train of your robe.
- 1:11Father, I pray you'll gird up our loins and let us stand in
- 1:15your holy presence. Father, we will not shrink back.
- 1:20Lord, we are resolute in our witness.
- 1:23Father, for you are worthy of all of our adoration, You are
- 1:30worthy of all of our attention. You are worthy, King Jesus.
- 1:36You are majestic, You are beautiful.
- 1:41Your face is beautiful, Father, eyes like fire and hair like
- 1:46wool. God, we hear your voice, the
- 1:49many sound of the multitudes, God reverberating across the
- 1:54pages of scripture, inspired words breathed by the Holy
- 1:59Spirit. We thank you for allowing us to
- 2:02hold them in our hands, God, help us to hide them in our
- 2:05hearts. Father, I pray that you'll
- 2:07continue to show up and show off and blow the pictures off the
- 2:11wall. God, I pray that you'll wreck us
- 2:14with your presence. God, I pray that you'll ravish
- 2:17us with your love. God, I pray that you'll continue
- 2:20to visit us. God, continue to show us your
- 2:24glory. God, come and get your glory.
- 2:26Father, in your Saints that are sold out unto you.
- 2:29Lord, I pray that we can stiff arm all the cares and the snares
- 2:34of this world. I pray that we're not entangled
- 2:36by the affairs of this world. God, I pray that we'll run the
- 2:39race well. God, I pray that you'll help us
- 2:42to take the torch and pass it to the next generation.
- 2:45Lord, we pray generational blessings upon our family.
- 2:49God 7 generations God and beyond, we pray that there will
- 2:53be those attached to us, Lord, that love you, that love the
- 2:58way, God, that love Yeshua. Lord, we pray for the
- 3:06government. God, we pray for law
- 3:08enforcement, We pray for the military.
- 3:10God, we pray for righteous judges, we pray God for the
- 3:14teachers. Lord.
- 3:15We pray that you'll raise up men and women unto yourself, Lord,
- 3:21that propagate the Holy Scriptures from Genesis to
- 3:25Revelation. God, help us to put the 10
- 3:28commandments back in the courthouse.
- 3:31God, we pray in the mighty name of Jesus for prayer to you, the
- 3:36only way back on the lips of teachers and children.
- 3:41Lord, I pray in the mighty name of Jesus for those that are
- 3:44caught up in the justice system. God, free the captives.
- 3:49God, I pray for truth to be revealed.
- 3:52Lord, I pray that you'll help us, God, to be your hands and
- 3:57feet, to go into the darkest place it's got, and to witness
- 4:01for you regardless of the outcome.
- 4:05Well, we count our lives as nothing, for You are worthy to
- 4:09be praised, worthy of all honor, of all due benevolence.
- 4:14Father, it is you, and it is only You that we are here for.
- 4:18Hide me, Father. Hide my words, God.
- 4:21Hide all of my own theology and doctrine.
- 4:25Break it all down, God. Any kind of selfish motives,
- 4:30Lord, Break it down, Father, and I pray that your glory will be
- 4:34revealed. Your plan for the ages, Lord,
- 4:37Your eschatology and your prophetic message spoken through
- 4:41the revealed will of your Word, God, to the ends of the earth
- 4:45for all people groups, all nations.
- 4:48God, I pray that you'll continue to call the elect unto yourself.
- 4:53God, elect more. Father, I pray that you, Lord,
- 4:59will come and teach and bind the enemy God from off of this time.
- 5:06He has no place here. Shut the mouths of lions.
- 5:09Crush the head of the serpent or let us walk amongst the fiery
- 5:16stones and on the water. God, I pray for the indwelling
- 5:19of the Holy Spirit filling us completely and totally and
- 5:23utterly overflowing into the highways and the hedges and the
- 5:27byways. God, let us be your mouthpiece
- 5:30today, your hands and feet today.
- 5:32Give us the mind of Christ today, for we love you.
- 5:34Hashem, we love you. Ruakadesh, we love you, come and
- 5:41get your glory. Show us your paths.
- 5:44Lord, we acknowledge you this morning, so continue to push us
- 5:49into grander and greater measures of your love and mercy,
- 5:53your kindness and long-suffering.
- 5:55God, it is in Jesus Christ of Nazareth, holy and precious and
- 6:03powerful, an amazing and awesome name that I pray.
- 6:07Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 6:15And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre, and he
- 6:19sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.
- 6:22Look at how Abraham here is just expectantly awaiting any kind of
- 6:31visitors. Look at how he sits in the tent
- 6:34door and he is at peace. Look at how he is just in his
- 6:39calling. He's walking in the steadfast
- 6:42obedience. He is a man of righteousness and
- 6:46faith. Verse 2 And he lift up his eyes,
- 6:49and he looked, and lo, three men stood by him, and when he saw
- 6:54them, he ran to meet them from the tent door and bowed himself
- 6:58toward the ground. You can see the customs of the
- 7:01day was to show hospitality to strangers.
- 7:04We can see a couple things about angels here, how they can
- 7:07manifest within the human body. And some have entertained
- 7:11angels, unaware they did not even know it.
- 7:15And that is the call for us to remain hospitable.
- 7:18We are not to let our faith grow cold, friends.
- 7:22Jesus said when the Son of Man returns, will he even find faith
- 7:26on this earth? And because of the increase of
- 7:30evil, the love of most will grow cold.
- 7:32And we are called to keep our love hot, friends.
- 7:35Keep your love burning friends. And hear Abraham.
- 7:39He's ready to receive. He counts it all as joy to
- 7:43receive these messengers. Verse 3 And said, My Lord, if
- 7:49now I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by, I pray
- 7:54from your servant. So he had an inclination that
- 7:57this was much more than just three random visitors passing
- 8:01through for little, little water.
- 8:06I pray be fetched and wash your feet and rest yourselves under
- 8:11the tree. So here Abraham is doing all
- 8:15that he knows how to do and what to do in order to find grace and
- 8:21favor within these visitors. Countenance within these
- 8:26visitors meaning of coming to Abraham.
- 8:32And verse 5. And I will fetch a morsel of
- 8:34bread and comfort you your hearts.
- 8:37After that you shall pass on, for therefore are you come to
- 8:41your servant. And they said, So do as you have
- 8:44said. So they received his worship,
- 8:46they received his hospitality. They said, Go on and do what it
- 8:50is that you have proposed to do in your heart. 6 And Abraham
- 8:54hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready
- 8:57quickly. 3 measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes
- 9:01upon the hearth. So here this is simple bread
- 9:06making. This would have been like naan
- 9:08inside of the tandoor, as it's made quickly and stuck between
- 9:12the hearth and baked quickly. 7 And Abraham ran unto the herd
- 9:19and fetched the calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young
- 9:23man, and he hasted to dress it. So he took this young little cow
- 9:29and he dressed it quickly, and it would have been like a nice
- 9:32veal dinner, friends. And he took butter and milk and
- 9:38the calf which he addressed, and he set it before them, and he
- 9:41stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.
- 9:44Now look at how the resurrected body of Jesus Christ on the
- 9:48beach whenever Peter ran to him and he was eating the fish.
- 9:52Look at how the resurrected body of Christ is able to eat.
- 9:56You know that we are going to eat in heaven, but we will not
- 10:00have to eat to survive like we do here.
- 10:03There will be this beautiful marriage supper of the lamb that
- 10:06we will be invited to, and it'll be amazing when we drink of the
- 10:11fruit of the vine with our Lord Christ. 9 And they said to him,
- 10:19Where's Sarah, your wife? And he said, behold, in the
- 10:22tent, they already knew where she was, but they're drawing
- 10:26things out of Abraham. This is God's way of maturing,
- 10:31his faithful maturing those that he is, that he has called.
- 10:36And that is what you're going to see throughout this chapter, is
- 10:39that God's going to ask questions through Christ.
- 10:42This is a Christophany. This is Jesus Christ before his
- 10:46Incarnate birth in Bethlehem. This is him coming upon the
- 10:49scene and he has his two angels with him and he's asking Abraham
- 10:54questions. And it is not as if he doesn't
- 10:57know. He already knows.
- 10:58He's just drawing things out of Abraham and developing the
- 11:02character within Abraham. And that is the same that he did
- 11:07in the garden when he said, where are you after they had
- 11:12eaten the forbidden fruit. And he said, I will certainly
- 11:20return unto you according to this time of life.
- 11:23And lo, Sarah, your wife shall have a son.
- 11:26And Sarah herded in the tent door which was behind him.
- 11:30So here they said, nine months I will return, and you will have a
- 11:35son. And imagine in the last chapter,
- 11:37friends, that God had already visited Abraham through Christ,
- 11:43and he's told him in one year from that time she would have a
- 11:46child. And then here nine months later
- 11:51or three months later, he visits him.
- 11:55It's a very short amount of time.
- 11:56He was a year. And then here three months
- 11:59later, he visits him and he tells him that in nine months
- 12:03she will have a child. 11 And Abraham and Sarah were old and
- 12:14well stricken in age, and it ceased to be with Sarah after
- 12:18the manner of women. She had already gone through
- 12:20menopause. She had already went through the
- 12:24changes. It was physically impossible for
- 12:28a woman of her age to ever bear a child. 12 Therefore Sarah
- 12:36laughed within herself, saying, After I'm grown old, shall I
- 12:42have pleasure, my Lord, also being old?
- 12:46So they were both old friends, they were ancient.
- 12:50And here you can see that she laughs within herself. 13 And
- 12:56the Lord said to Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I
- 13:01of a surety bear a child which I'm old?
- 13:05So here Jesus Christ heard the confines of Sarah's mind and
- 13:13emotions, and he knew that within herself she laughed. 14
- 13:20Is anything too hard for the Lord at the time appointed?
- 13:25I will return to you according to the time of life, and Sarah
- 13:29shall have a son. This is the key verse.
- 13:32This is the hinge point of this chapter.
- 13:35Friends, is anything too hard for the Lord?
- 13:39We must bring this into our current situation that we find
- 13:44ourselves in. There is nothing impossible for
- 13:47our God and it is impossible for us to please God without faith.
- 13:52And we must have the faith of a child in order for God to be
- 13:57pleased with us and in order for us to enter into the Kingdom of
- 14:01God. And that is what you need to
- 14:03understand. It is nothing is too hard for
- 14:06God. He literally can do anything
- 14:10that he pleases, which he can reverse diseases, he can regrow
- 14:16limbs, friends, he can have you to raise from the dead.
- 14:20It can cause you to be caught up to meet him in the clouds.
- 14:24There is nothing that is impossible for our God.
- 14:31And he tells them, in nine months surely they will have a
- 14:35child of their own. 15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I did not
- 14:40laugh, but she was afraid. And he said, no, you did laugh.
- 14:45So here again this gentle rebuke of our Lord.
- 14:50This is the nature of Jesus Christ.
- 14:54You see that there is no lying to Him.
- 14:59There is no deceiving Him. He knows everything.
- 15:03He knows all the things that are done in the secret place, good
- 15:08or bad. Everything is naked and laid
- 15:11bare before a holy God who sees it all.
- 15:14And we must go ahead and confess and repent the things that are
- 15:18holding us back from Him, and quit trying to operate in
- 15:22spiritual pride, and quit trying to cover up our tracks, and quit
- 15:26trying to hide from a holy God who already sees everything.
- 15:30Friends, just confess it and repent it and allow the Spirit
- 15:35to come in and to fill all of the empty places where you kick
- 15:40out the idols that don't belong, and be filled with the Holy
- 15:44Ghost today. 16 And the men rose up from there and looked towards
- 15:54Sodom, and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.
- 15:59This was the custom of the day. Abraham would have escorted them
- 16:02away from there. 17 And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham
- 16:11the thing which I am going to do?
- 16:15So here is the Lord Jesus Christ having compassion, knowing that
- 16:20Abraham is going to spring up and be a mighty nation and be
- 16:24the light of the world, and point the entire world and all
- 16:27people groups and all languages, and all continents towards
- 16:31Yahweh everlasting. The God of Abraham, Isaac and
- 16:35Jacob, the God of Israel, friends, is the maker of
- 16:38everything seen and unseen, the only uncreated, and that is who
- 16:42we attach ourselves to. And here he is seeing that
- 16:46Abraham is going to be the father of the faith, and he's
- 16:50saying, I will not hide what I'm about to do.
- 16:54I'm going to develop him. 18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely
- 17:01become a great, mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth
- 17:07will be blessed in him, every single person, no matter their
- 17:13nationality, must come through the Jewish Savior.
- 17:22It does not matter the background does not matter, the
- 17:25language, does not matter the skin tone, it does not matter
- 17:29your preferences. Every single blood bought, born
- 17:35again believer who's going to bust heaven wide open must come
- 17:40through the Messiah, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. 19 For I
- 17:52know him, that he will command his children and his household
- 17:57after him, and they will keep the way of the Lord to do
- 18:01justice and judgment. And the Lord may bring upon
- 18:05Abraham that which he has spoken of him.
- 18:08He chose him, and he knows the beginning from the end, and the
- 18:11end from the beginning. He is the alpha and the Omega.
- 18:15He lives outside of time, and he knows that Abraham is going to
- 18:21finish well regardless of all the hiccups along the way. 20
- 18:27And the Lord said, because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is
- 18:30great, and because their sin is very grievous, so he gives him
- 18:35the reason. It is not a knee jerk reaction.
- 18:38This is not God just desiring to destroy.
- 18:42This is because he loves so much that he cannot bear to see his
- 18:48creation torn apart. 21 I will go down now and see whether they
- 18:56have done all together according to the cry of it which has come
- 19:00to me. And if not, I will know.
- 19:03He already knows, friends, but he's revealing all of this to
- 19:06Abraham. And you remember in the book of
- 19:08Job where Satan has access to the throne room, and he comes in
- 19:13and he asks him where he's been. And he's been to and fro all
- 19:16over the earth. And they're bringing all kinds
- 19:18of accounts here to God Almighty.
- 19:20And you can see here that he goes down himself because he
- 19:24does not want to just take it on the messengers and what they
- 19:30have to say. He's going to lay the eyes upon
- 19:33it himself, and he already sees it anyway, friends.
- 19:36But He's giving us the facts and the truth that He doesn't do
- 19:42anything out of emotion. It's all done within the
- 19:47parameters of justice. It's all done within the
- 19:51parameters of a long-suffering God who gives us plenty of space
- 19:56and time to repent and to turn it around and to do the right
- 20:00thing. But He will only put up with us
- 20:03for so long before the judgment comes. 22 And the men turned
- 20:11their faces from there and went towards Sodom, but Abraham stood
- 20:15yet before the Lord. So the two angels go on as
- 20:19they're going towards Sodom and Gomorrah, and Abraham stays and
- 20:24speaks with our Lord Jesus Christ, a preincarnate Christ,
- 20:28the Christophany here in Genesis 23.
- 20:33And Abraham drew near and said, will you also destroy the
- 20:37righteous with the wicked? So here we see this intercessory
- 20:42prayer and this is what he's after.
- 20:43This is what God is after. He's wanting to develop this
- 20:47intercessory prayer that Abraham is to model for us.
- 20:51And we are not just to just put it in the Lord's hand and walk
- 20:55away. We are to pray fervently for the
- 20:59wicked. We are to pray fervently for our
- 21:04enemies, friends, love them and pray for them and do not wish
- 21:12evil upon those that are caught up in evil.
- 21:18People are never the problem, it's the spirit behind the
- 21:21people that we war against. Never forget that 24 what if
- 21:31there be 50 righteous within the city?
- 21:34Will you also destroy it and not spare the place for 50 righteous
- 21:39that are in it? So here he's going into this
- 21:42discourse, this dialogue with Jesus and he's saying, are you
- 21:46going to destroy it? If there are 50 people there
- 21:49that are righteous 25 that be far from you to do after this
- 21:56manner to slay the righteous with the wicked, and that the
- 22:00righteous should be as the wicked that be far from you.
- 22:05Shall not the judge of all the earth do right?
- 22:08So here Abraham is pricking Jesus heart and he's saying that
- 22:14you will surely do what is right.
- 22:17You're the maker of everything. You are the embodiment of
- 22:21everything that is right and righteous and good.
- 22:25And he's saying I know your character and there is no way
- 22:29that you would destroy the righteous amongst the wicked.
- 22:33And this is a beautiful picture of what happened with Noah, and
- 22:37it's a beautiful picture of what is going to happen to Lot.
- 22:41And it's a beautiful picture of what will happen to the church
- 22:45friends. This is God's character, His
- 22:48immutable character, His unchangeable character on
- 22:52display for you to see. God rescues those that are
- 22:57living right and they're doing the right thing and those that
- 23:00belong to Him. And in Revelation chapter 3,
- 23:04verse 10, it says that He will keep us from the hour of
- 23:07temptation that is coming to test all the inhabitants of the
- 23:11earth, and we will be caught up to meet Him in the clouds. 26
- 23:21And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom, 50 righteous within the
- 23:25city, I'll spare all the place for their sakes. 27 And Abraham
- 23:30answered and said, Behold, now I have taken it upon me to speak
- 23:36to the Lord, and I am just but dust and ashes.
- 23:41This is the model that we saw back in Job when he just puts
- 23:45his hand over his mouth and he says, I've said too much.
- 23:50When God speaks, we cannot even start to say a single word.
- 23:57It is nothing but silence. And here Abraham musters up
- 24:04enough courage to speak unto the Creator of it all, who knows
- 24:09everything, and he's trying to bargain with them and he's
- 24:12trying to get him to reveal his true nature.
- 24:16And it's always congruent with Scriptures is that God is love.
- 24:2528 Well, what if they're lack five of the 50?
- 24:29You'll destroy it for the lack of five.
- 24:33And he said, if I find they're 45, I won't destroy it.
- 24:37So here we go, this back and forth. 29 And he spoke to him
- 24:43yet again, and he said, but what if there'd only be 40 there?
- 24:48And he said, I will not do it for 40's sake.
- 24:52So there they go back and forth and he's saying, what if there's
- 24:57fifty? OK, I won't destroy it.
- 24:58What if there's 45? OK, I won't destroy it.
- 25:01OK, but what if there's 40? He says I will not destroy it.
- 25:0530 And he said to him, Oh, let not the Lord be angry, I will
- 25:12speak, What if there shall be only 30 found there?
- 25:19And he said, I will not do it if I find 30 there. 31 And he said,
- 25:25Behold, now I have taken it upon me to speak to the Lord, What if
- 25:29there shall be 20 there? He said, I will not destroy it
- 25:34for 20 sake. 32 And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry, and I
- 25:41will speak yet this once. What if 10 shall be found there?
- 25:50And he said, I will not destroy it for 10's sake.
- 25:57Perhaps Abraham thought within himself that Lot, his wife,
- 26:06their two daughters, and their fiancees was going to be enough
- 26:15with any of the ones that they were in Sodom and Gomorrah with
- 26:19evangelizing to make up for the 10.
- 26:25Let's see how the story goes. We'll end on 33.
- 26:29And the Lord went his way as soon as he had left, communing
- 26:33with Abraham, and Abraham returned unto his place.
- 26:37So we don't see the Lord in the next chapter.
- 26:39We don't see him going into Sodom and Gomorrah.
- 26:42He came to share this meal with Father Abraham.
- 26:47He came to let him know what he was going to do.
- 26:49He came to develop the character of intercessory prayer.
- 26:54And we can see here a beautiful gem mine of theological truths
- 26:59for us to spend a lifetime uncovering about God and his
- 27:03goodness and his justice and juxtaposition.
- 27:07Friends, I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter
- 27:10in God's Word. I know I sure have.
- 27:13I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 27:15I love you. We'll see you back here
- 27:17tomorrow. God bless you.
