- 0:24Speaker 3: It's so hard for you not to say Winterfest, isn't it?
- 0:28Speaker 1: It is? It's always gonna be Winterfest me.

- 1:05Speaker 3: here on the podcast.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Speaking of which, we do have an email from this
- 1:09Speaker 2: week and this movie has some info about a New
- 1:14Speaker 2: Year's resolution. And this email is from Scott who says,
- 1:17Speaker 2: you guys are a kick. I and a number of
- 1:19Speaker 2: my friends are Hallmark movie watchers. I was a writer
- 1:23Speaker 2: wannabe and as an if J. Myers Briggs personality type,
- 1:28Speaker 2: I tend to break things down along with watching for enjoyment.
- 1:31Speaker 2: When I joke about Hallmark Christmas movies, it goes girl
- 1:33Speaker 2: meets boy, girl hates boy, girl gets involved with boy,
- 1:36Speaker 2: falls in love. They break up over something crazy at
- 1:38Speaker 2: one hour forty six minutes, make up, two minutes later.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Kiss, and it's nose.
- 1:42Speaker 2: So I just listened to you for the first time
- 1:44Speaker 2: for a New Year's resolution. FYI, the writer must have
- 1:48Speaker 2: been from the Chicago Milwaukee area, since in Geraney, Illinois,
- 1:52Speaker 2: approximately halfway be two the two cities, there is a
- 1:55Speaker 2: six Flags and yes there is a Milwaukee Pro League
- 2:00Speaker 2: AAHL team, and yes you do wear a bathing suit,
- 2:04Speaker 2: mainly to do the polar plunge. Speed dating was more
- 2:07Speaker 2: a nineties thing before internet dating, and there's now a
- 2:09Speaker 2: thing called Let's Do Lunch where they get a bunch
- 2:11Speaker 2: of singles together for lunch. That's really interesting about speed
- 2:16Speaker 2: dating being pre internet dating.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I mean I could see how I could see.
- 2:23Speaker 3: How that works. But internet dating started win late nineties.
- 2:28Speaker 2: So match dot Com launched in nineteen ninety five, which
- 2:32Speaker 2: is earlier than I would have guessed.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I met my husband on the internet in We got
- 2:40Speaker 2: married in two thousand and five. We met in two
- 2:42Speaker 2: thousand and four.
- 2:43Speaker 1: We met on e harmony.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Wait, stop right there. You met in two thousand and
- 2:48Speaker 3: four and you were married in two thousand and five.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we met. We got married one year and one
- 2:55Speaker 2: week later.
- 2:57Speaker 1: How did I How did I not know? Oh with
- 3:00Speaker 1: this holy boy?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, we got engaged six months after we met, and
- 3:04Speaker 2: we got married six months after that. I didn't think
- 3:07Speaker 2: we would get married so fast because at the time
- 3:09Speaker 2: we were both teachers, and you know, teachers like you
- 3:13Speaker 2: kind of have to get married in the summer because
- 3:14Speaker 2: it's hard to take time.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Off and blah blah, blah blah.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And I was like, there's no way we can plan
- 3:18Speaker 2: a wedding in six months, because we got married February first.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And my mother, who was like, I can plan a
- 3:23Speaker 1: wedding in six months.
- 3:24Speaker 2: If you want to get married this summer, you can
- 3:26Speaker 2: get married this summer, and otherwise we would have been
- 3:29Speaker 2: engaged for a year and a half probably, So yeah,
- 3:32Speaker 2: we get married. Wow Mother's birthday, because that was the
- 3:36Speaker 2: one day available at our chosen venue and uh yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 2: thanks to Kathy. Otherwise, there's no way we could have
- 3:44Speaker 2: planned a wedding that fast. Wow, I say that obviously
- 3:47Speaker 2: you can plan a wedding in six months. A wedding
- 3:51Speaker 2: does not have to be a major production. I had
- 3:55Speaker 2: a major production wedding.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I was gonna say, I'm surprised that you were able
- 4:02Speaker 3: to get your venue six months out.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I'm sure I shocked.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I think I think they must have had a cancelation. Wow, yeah,
- 4:11Speaker 2: because I would imagine that particular venue is typically locked.
- 4:16Speaker 1: But yeah, ye'ah.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Megan had a super boogie wedding, not that I was there,
- 4:19Speaker 3: but just where it was at, knowing the locale.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah, super bougie.
- 4:25Speaker 2: And another fun fact about my wedding. You know, my dad,
- 4:28Speaker 2: father of the bride, gives the speech, and about a
- 4:30Speaker 2: week before the wedding, my mom and I said, hey,
- 4:32Speaker 2: have you, you know, figured out what you're gonna say,
- 4:34Speaker 2: and he goes, you know, I thought I'd just say like, hey, guys,
- 4:37Speaker 2: thanks for coming, and my mom and I.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Both go, hey, guys.
- 4:42Speaker 2: So my dad was like challenge accepted, and then gave
- 4:45Speaker 2: this like fifteen minute stand up comedy routine as his
- 4:48Speaker 2: Father of the Bride speech, which people.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Oh still to this day talk about.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And I guarantee you if social media had been a
- 4:54Speaker 2: thing in two thousand and five, it would have.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Been on the it would have been a viral video.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it was one of the high points of the
- 5:00Speaker 2: wedding from the actual marriage.
- 5:03Speaker 1: That's nice.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I'm still shocked that you got married one year after.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I was a baby. I was wow babym hm. Did
- 5:11Speaker 1: you guys live together before you got married? Not for
- 5:14Speaker 1: a single moment? No, whoah?
- 5:17Speaker 2: We bought wow a house?
- 5:21Speaker 1: I don't remember. Maybe May.
- 5:23Speaker 2: We bought the house we got married in August and
- 5:25Speaker 2: I lived there myself and then my husband moved in
- 5:30Speaker 2: the day we got married.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 5:34Speaker 3: There part of We're gonna have to have a full
- 5:36Speaker 3: conversation about this on our other podcast, I think, because
- 5:39Speaker 3: this is blowing my mus send us your wedding related
- 5:43Speaker 3: questions Megan and Wendy at gmail.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Dot com and we will chat about them. Thank you
- 5:47Speaker 2: for the intel, Scott. It is really interesting to me
- 5:49Speaker 2: to think about the timeline of speed dating. Okay, speed
- 5:52Speaker 2: dating officially began in nineteen ninety eight, so technically online
- 5:57Speaker 2: dating predated speed dating, but perhaps I wouldn't say the
- 6:00Speaker 2: online dating boom happened for a while. I think in
- 6:05Speaker 2: nineteen ninety five, meeting someone online was still.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Like you did what too.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Even when I told my dad in two thousand and
- 6:13Speaker 2: four that I met someone online, he was like, you
- 6:15Speaker 2: did what. For a long time, I would tell people
- 6:18Speaker 2: we met at an Angel game, because that was technically.
- 6:21Speaker 1: True because in person.
- 6:23Speaker 3: For the first time, oh, in a very large crowd
- 6:26Speaker 3: of people.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yes, because I was still myself sixteen years ago, very cautious,
- 6:33Speaker 2: and brought a friend with me on that date. By
- 6:36Speaker 2: the way, hold on, there's more to that story. Oh
- 6:41Speaker 2: my gosh, I didn't actually bring a friend.
- 6:43Speaker 1: It's a long story.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Well for another time, please I have to hear it.
- 6:48Speaker 3: We'll definitely definitely do this on the regular podcast.
- 6:52Speaker 2: And we can talk about how my dad swore at
- 6:54Speaker 2: my husband first time they met in person. Get the
- 6:59Speaker 2: f off my vote all true stories? So wow, Okay,
- 7:07Speaker 2: that answers a lot of the questions that came up
- 7:09Speaker 2: in our New Year's All Solution episode.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And if you haven't.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Listened to that, we would remind you to go back
- 7:14Speaker 2: one week and listen to our episode with Calli from
- 7:16Speaker 2: Hallmarks The Spot, because that was a really fun episode
- 7:18Speaker 2: to record. Wendy hated the movie, I really enjoyed it.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I would encourage you to pop back give it a listen. Also,
- 7:24Speaker 2: a quick note about our episodes with guests. We were
- 7:28Speaker 2: lucky to have our friends Maryanne Canada and Lashawn Wilts
- 7:31Speaker 2: record episodes with us, and one hundred percent our fault.
- 7:35Speaker 2: My fault really, because I'm the one who downloads the audio.
- 7:37Speaker 2: We had some audio issues there. We have learned a
- 7:40Speaker 2: lot and I have in fact since been able to
- 7:43Speaker 2: clean up that audio even more than we were originally
- 7:46Speaker 2: able to. We have republished the audios, so the episodes
- 7:49Speaker 2: for a Nashville Christmas Carol and Christmas in Evergreen Bells
- 7:53Speaker 2: are Ringing is improved. If you haven't listened to those,
- 7:55Speaker 2: go back give those a listen as well.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yeah, because Hallmark is showing those movies I think on
- 8:00Speaker 3: every Friday right now Christmas movies, so I will definitely
- 8:05Speaker 3: include them in our show notes.
- 8:07Speaker 2: We've heard from several people who listen to the Hallmark
- 8:09Speaker 2: episodes even if you're not a Hallmark movie watcher. So
- 8:12Speaker 2: if that's you, we would love to know that because
- 8:14Speaker 2: I can't really explain why that brings me so much joy,
- 8:17Speaker 2: but it really does.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Well, it means that they like us, that's right.
- 8:22Speaker 2: So this week's movie is Two for the Win, and
- 8:25Speaker 2: I believe Wendy has a very long synopsis to go
- 8:28Speaker 2: with this movie.
- 8:29Speaker 3: I don't actually the one I'm looking at right now
- 8:31Speaker 3: is only one sentence.
- 8:33Speaker 1: So I was sarcastic. All right, here we go. Two
- 8:36Speaker 1: for the Win.
- 8:37Speaker 3: A world champion ski racer and local ski instructor find
- 8:42Speaker 3: romance on the slopes as he returns home and prepares
- 8:45Speaker 3: for the biggest race of his life.
- 8:47Speaker 1: List of first impressions, Okay, you tell me yours.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I quite enjoyed this movie. I have a feeling the
- 8:55Speaker 3: opposite is coming from you.
- 8:57Speaker 1: No, not the opposite.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you my first impression without giving
- 9:02Speaker 2: you an idea of how I felt about this movie.
- 9:04Speaker 1: And my first impression of the.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Movie was this is perhaps the most rational Hallmark movie
- 9:10Speaker 2: I have ever seen in terms of the behavior of
- 9:13Speaker 2: the characters. They behave like adults. They have conversations about
- 9:17Speaker 2: problems before the last five minutes of the movie. There's
- 9:21Speaker 2: like actual conflict resolution.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Happening in the movie I was. That was my.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Overall impression was that these people are adults. Whether that's
- 9:31Speaker 2: a good thing or not, We will get you later. Okay,
- 9:34Speaker 2: how about some news and notes for two for the
- 9:36Speaker 2: whin So this movie was filmed on Mount Pakenham in
- 9:40Speaker 2: southwest Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. And you know I love a
- 9:44Speaker 2: movie where there was actual winter weather and snow, no
- 9:49Speaker 2: soapy snow.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I love it. Yeah.
- 9:51Speaker 3: I'm filmed done during November twenty twenty, so they did
- 9:54Speaker 3: have to quarantine. I checked out Trevor Donovan's Instagram and
- 9:58Speaker 3: he was quarantining for fourteen days prior to the movie.
- 10:01Speaker 2: So, uh, speaking of Trevor Donovan's Instagram, did you happen
- 10:05Speaker 2: to note one of his former jobs, girl?
- 10:08Speaker 1: I shared it on our Instagram as a former Abramian
- 10:11Speaker 1: pitch model. Yes, so we do.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Have a Girls Gone Hallmark Instagram that is basically just
- 10:18Speaker 3: to share content from this podcast here. Anyway, I did
- 10:23Speaker 3: share his Ambercrombie and Bitch.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I fold to apologize that I missed that.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I have actually put U screen time limits on my
- 10:31Speaker 2: phone at the urging of my thirteen year old, and
- 10:33Speaker 2: I have been sticking to them. He also did all
- 10:36Speaker 2: of his own skiing in this movie.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I know. I was pretty impressed by that. Actually I
- 10:40Speaker 1: was too.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Last note, he also played Teddy on The nine two
- 10:44Speaker 3: and Remake? Did you watch the nine two and remake?
- 10:48Speaker 3: Not the reboot of the original cast, but the like W.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, with brand new people. Yes.
- 10:55Speaker 2: I saw a couple episodes and it didn't do it
- 10:59Speaker 2: for me. I did not notice the Teddy.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I didn't watch the entire series. Maybe the first season.
- 11:05Speaker 3: I don't even recall if he was on it that season,
- 11:08Speaker 3: but apparently he played a pretty big significant role. He
- 11:12Speaker 3: played a gay teenager who had come out.
- 11:15Speaker 1: So yeah.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Well. Charlotte Sullivan, who plays Kayla in this movie, she
- 11:20Speaker 2: has like a long history as an actress. She's in
- 11:24Speaker 2: a lot of cop shows, but notably, her first on
- 11:26Speaker 2: screen role was as an extra in Eliza Minelli music.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Video E Liza Minellie. Yeah, it just tickled me. All right,
- 11:33Speaker 1: let's transition to what we liked about the movie.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Okay, do you want to go first?
- 11:38Speaker 2: I have a very long list, to be honest, Oh good,
- 11:42Speaker 2: I have several things.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Let's just go back and forth.
- 11:44Speaker 2: One shot I loved was of justin going up the
- 11:49Speaker 2: magic carpet. I thought that shot was hilarious.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Okay, that was very funny, But here is some criticism.
- 11:57Speaker 3: I thought this movie had a ton of similarities to
- 12:02Speaker 3: another movie which we enjoyed a couple of weeks ago,
- 12:05Speaker 3: taking a shot at Love, where there was like this
- 12:07Speaker 3: sports guy in rehab and the coach or the rehaber
- 12:13Speaker 3: made them get involved in like the children's aged events whatever.
- 12:19Speaker 3: So I thought that was interesting. But I thought that
- 12:22Speaker 3: was cute that he was going up the bunny hill.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I liked that both actors had like the same energy level.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I thought they were.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Very playful and fun. They made it feel like they
- 12:34Speaker 3: had a long history together. So I like that very much,
- 12:38Speaker 3: especially coming off of a last Week's movie where I
- 12:41Speaker 3: thought that the casting between the two main actors was
- 12:45Speaker 3: so polar opposite. Really enjoyed Charlotte Sullivan in this role.
- 12:50Speaker 3: I haven't seen her in anything else. I apologize, but
- 12:53Speaker 3: I thought she was fun and funny and sarcastic, and
- 12:58Speaker 3: I really enjoyed the two them together.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I liked their.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Chemistry as well. I disagree about your assessment about last
- 13:05Speaker 2: week's character's chemistry, but we'll just leave that alone. One
- 13:09Speaker 2: line that I liked was when they were doing yoga
- 13:12Speaker 2: and he was like, what is happening. She's like, it's bickroom,
- 13:14Speaker 2: it's sweaty yoga, and he goes, seems really unsanitary, And
- 13:17Speaker 2: I'm with you on that. There's I don't voluntarily sweat,
- 13:21Speaker 2: and so I would have had the same feelings.
- 13:25Speaker 3: That's funny that you say that. So I listened to
- 13:26Speaker 3: another podcast that reviews Hallmark movies and they mentioned that
- 13:31Speaker 3: scene in particular, and they were like, why did they
- 13:33Speaker 3: call it sweaty yoga? Isn't it typically called hot yoga?
- 13:37Speaker 1: Yes? I noticed that as well. I don't know the
- 13:40Speaker 1: answer to why I don't.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I don't either, Okay, So I really enjoyed all of
- 13:45Speaker 3: Kyla's dadisms, you know those my dad used to say.
- 13:49Speaker 3: My dad used to say, there were like three or
- 13:51Speaker 3: four of them throughout. Did you catch any of those?
- 13:54Speaker 2: Not that I could repeat back, but I didn't notice them. Yeah.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought it was kind of nice because, you know,
- 14:00Speaker 3: her dad had passed on, so it was just nice
- 14:03Speaker 3: that he was, you know, that he had such an
- 14:06Speaker 3: impression on her.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yes, I liked it. I liked that part of it.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I liked the parallels between Kayla and Justin and
- 14:13Speaker 2: their dads, and they were both kind of upholding their legacies.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I liked Justin's friend Wyatt. Had anything else to say
- 14:20Speaker 2: about that except that I enjoyed him as a supporting
- 14:23Speaker 2: character in the movie.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I liked him too, and I thought it was real cute,
- 14:27Speaker 3: like how he was so enamored by Kayla's sister and
- 14:31Speaker 3: how he wanted to go out with her so badly.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I just enjoyed it. I enjoyed that little.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Subplot, yes, And I also enjoyed at the end when
- 14:41Speaker 2: Justin's like considering going back out on the road and
- 14:44Speaker 2: He's like, come with me, and he was like, dude,
- 14:46Speaker 2: I have a girlfriend now, Like, yeah, I'm not gonna
- 14:48Speaker 2: leave to go chase this dream with you.
- 14:51Speaker 3: I like how Justin and his dad healed their relationship.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Yes, I thought.
- 14:56Speaker 3: That was very mature. It was It's kind of interesting
- 15:00Speaker 3: to watch from the parent perspective, you know, being hard
- 15:04Speaker 3: on your kid because you just want them to be
- 15:07Speaker 3: their best and win and whatever. So that was quite striking,
- 15:11Speaker 3: I thought. But I liked that the dad had a
- 15:14Speaker 3: relationship with Kayla, and Kayla basically told him, like cut
- 15:18Speaker 3: that out.
- 15:19Speaker 1: You need to be more supportive.
- 15:20Speaker 3: And so I enjoyed that they like came around to
- 15:24Speaker 3: each other.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and I thought that was really realistic, Like this
- 15:28Speaker 2: is how the dad knew to relate to his son, right,
- 15:30Speaker 2: Like he had been a professional skier, he had this experience,
- 15:34Speaker 2: and so this was how he.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Was finding a common connection.
- 15:37Speaker 2: And I don't think he realized the way the sun felt.
- 15:42Speaker 2: It felt like criticism where the dad was trying to find,
- 15:45Speaker 2: you know, common ground to connect with him on.
- 15:47Speaker 3: I enjoyed the line dancing party.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yes you too.
- 15:51Speaker 2: And I also enjoy when he's like line dancing is
- 15:53Speaker 2: just walking to music.
- 15:54Speaker 3: I don't know why I enjoy the line dancing, and
- 15:56Speaker 3: it's probably because we're in our Like eighty four months
- 15:59Speaker 3: of a pandemics made me want to go line dancing,
- 16:02Speaker 3: something I typically wouldn't want to do.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I was like at a.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Wedding, not like at a cowboy bar or anything, but
- 16:11Speaker 3: boy bar. Yeah, well they're in so cow They're usable
- 16:14Speaker 3: in Orange County. There used to be a bar called
- 16:17Speaker 3: the Cowboy Boogie. I don't know if it still exists anymore,
- 16:19Speaker 3: but they would have.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been there.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Oh, okay, doesn't it just transition to the boogie after
- 16:25Speaker 2: a while.
- 16:29Speaker 3: But it was like line dancing every single night, wasn't it,
- 16:31Speaker 3: like at the height of like ninety Yeah, when that
- 16:35Speaker 3: was can we make it a thing again? I know
- 16:38Speaker 3: you have a pair of boots and you would put
- 16:39Speaker 3: them on and we would go together.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I do a pair of boots. Okay.
- 16:42Speaker 3: So the last thing that I ripped, and you had
- 16:46Speaker 3: talked about it earlier, is that it looked like both
- 16:50Speaker 3: actors could actually ski. I know that we said that
- 16:54Speaker 3: even has a history of being a skier. I thought
- 16:57Speaker 3: that Charlotte Sullivan looked like a natural on skis as well.
- 17:01Speaker 3: So I enjoyed that very much.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Okay, how about some oh roadblocks?
- 17:09Speaker 3: Okay, So you had mentioned that this was a pre
- 17:13Speaker 3: Even Killed movie.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Is that what you called it? What did you call it? Yeah?
- 17:17Speaker 3: Rational? But Even Killed work rational? Okay, So there there
- 17:21Speaker 3: wasn't a lot of like super huge, obvious roadblocks that
- 17:27Speaker 3: would make this story just go left. The only real
- 17:32Speaker 3: one I have a couple here, but they're pretty minor.
- 17:34Speaker 3: The other female skier that was in town at Winter Mountain,
- 17:38Speaker 3: like she was watching Kayla and justin like what did
- 17:43Speaker 3: she want to do? Uh? Oh, I think I thought
- 17:45Speaker 3: she was trying to like sabotage This is where my
- 17:49Speaker 3: mind goes. I thought she was trying to sabotage his race,
- 17:53Speaker 3: but it was, yes, it wasn't well.
- 17:55Speaker 2: And then you know she oh tries to take Kayla
- 17:58Speaker 2: away unsuccessfully.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Right, So yeah, so Kayla gets a job offer, Justin
- 18:04Speaker 3: wants to maybe retire and stay working at the lodge.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Like there was a lot of like.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Baby u ohs, I think yes another baby oh? Is
- 18:14Speaker 2: that Justin can't stop insulting Kayla's job when she first
- 18:17Speaker 2: begins coaching him, and she calls him on it and
- 18:20Speaker 2: he stops and Okay, oh.
- 18:22Speaker 1: That's so funny. I didn't even really. Yeah, he kind
- 18:25Speaker 1: of pushed back a little bit. I guess, well.
- 18:28Speaker 2: He was basically saying, like, you could have been great,
- 18:31Speaker 2: and she was like, I think I am great. You know,
- 18:34Speaker 2: your definition of greatness and mine are different. And you
- 18:39Speaker 2: know the fact that I'm coaching twelve year olds doesn't
- 18:41Speaker 2: make me any less fabulous.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Okay, So here is what I have a little problem
- 18:46Speaker 3: with this movie. I'm confused about the age of a
- 18:50Speaker 3: ski coach because at one point she was Justin's coach
- 18:55Speaker 3: before he went off to become like this gold medal winner, right,
- 19:01Speaker 3: so he would have been like a teen ager. So
- 19:06Speaker 3: was she a teenage ski coach?
- 19:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good point that doesn't necessarily stand up
- 19:13Speaker 2: to too much scrutiny.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I think it would have.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Been better if she was also a ski racer and
- 19:18Speaker 3: then decided to stay at the lodge and just take
- 19:21Speaker 3: over the family business or whatever.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I kind of liked that she was never a competitive
- 19:26Speaker 2: skier because it I didn't want her to have to
- 19:29Speaker 2: take a back seat to him. I liked that she
- 19:32Speaker 2: was great at her job and he was great at his,
- 19:34Speaker 2: and it was never like she couldn't make it as
- 19:36Speaker 2: a professional skier so she had to coach. You know,
- 19:38Speaker 2: there wasn't that like if you can't do teach a storyline?
- 19:42Speaker 1: H huh.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I actually kind of liked that part of it, even
- 19:45Speaker 2: if the timeline doesn't add up. Okay, what did you
- 19:48Speaker 2: wish for in this movie?
- 19:49Speaker 1: Okay?
- 19:50Speaker 3: So I don't have much that.
- 19:53Speaker 1: I wished for.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Okay, I only wished Okay, here's a little backstory. My
- 19:58Speaker 3: husband and I have been watched the Rocky movie trilogy.
- 20:03Speaker 3: We've watched the Karate Kid trilogy, and in these movies
- 20:07Speaker 3: there's always a music bontage of them, like, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 3: getting ready for the race. That's what I wish this
- 20:15Speaker 3: movie had. I would have loved that.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I wished for a little more excitement. So going back
- 20:20Speaker 2: to my these characters being rational, they solve all their problems,
- 20:24Speaker 2: even our roadblocks, our baby roadblocks. I think that makes
- 20:28Speaker 2: for a perfectly enjoyable, if bland movie watching experience. I
- 20:33Speaker 2: liked this movie. There were attractive people. I enjoyed the characters.
- 20:37Speaker 2: But there were several times when it felt like they
- 20:40Speaker 2: were gonna go for like high drama, like when he's
- 20:42Speaker 2: training with his dad right before the race and his
- 20:45Speaker 2: dad's like, looks a little icy up there, and Justin's like,
- 20:47Speaker 2: I'm gonna go for one last run, and you kind
- 20:49Speaker 2: of think like he's gonna get injured, there's something bad
- 20:52Speaker 2: gonna happen, and then they just go have a beer.
- 20:55Speaker 2: And not that I wanted him to get injured, but
- 20:58Speaker 2: there was no drama. And you know, we complain about
- 21:02Speaker 2: sometimes the manufactured drama in these movies, but I would
- 21:05Speaker 2: have liked perhaps.
- 21:06Speaker 1: A little more.
- 21:07Speaker 2: It was almost bizarre to me how they have this
- 21:09Speaker 2: moment they Justin and Kayla discussed that they have feelings
- 21:12Speaker 2: for each other and they're falling for each other, and
- 21:14Speaker 2: she goes, but I'm gonna take this job, so peace,
- 21:18Speaker 2: that's it.
- 21:19Speaker 1: And then of course she comes back that is.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Perhaps a little more real, right, like, hey, talk it
- 21:24Speaker 2: out and she's gonna choose her job, which I love.
- 21:27Speaker 2: But again, watching real life isn't necessarily the most exciting thing.
- 21:33Speaker 3: I hear you, okay, So I think that's what I
- 21:37Speaker 3: liked about it. I liked that she was like telling
- 21:40Speaker 3: her sister, Hey, this is what I want to pursue.
- 21:43Speaker 3: I really kind of want to do this. And then
- 21:45Speaker 3: Justin kind of like lets her down when he says,
- 21:48Speaker 3: you know that he's considering and retiring. But then she
- 21:51Speaker 3: gets the offer from the female skier and I was like, awesome,
- 21:55Speaker 3: Like that's great, Like here's your opportunity, and he was like,
- 21:58Speaker 3: you have to go for it. So I like that
- 22:01Speaker 3: he was like, oh, you have to go for it
- 22:05Speaker 3: instead of like our relationships over.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Yes, I liked that he supported her. I did enjoy that.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I liked them. I liked their decisions. I would like
- 22:16Speaker 2: these people in real life. I you know, was cheering
- 22:20Speaker 2: for them to get together, because this wasn't a situation
- 22:23Speaker 2: where we have resolution. In the last ten seconds, you
- 22:26Speaker 2: knew that these people had a mutual respect for each other,
- 22:29Speaker 2: So I.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Did like that.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I just was kind of like, okay, but I keep
- 22:32Speaker 2: waiting for something to happen, and nothing really happened.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Well, even so, even at the I'm sorry, Even at
- 22:38Speaker 3: the end, I think I was a little bit disappointed
- 22:41Speaker 3: that she was there on his race day and she
- 22:45Speaker 3: got the other skier to train at Winter Mountain instead.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I would have preferred if she would have went to
- 22:52Speaker 3: Zurich or wherever, and then he left.
- 22:55Speaker 1: His plans to go meet her.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Yes, I think that would have been better, because she's
- 23:00Speaker 3: still in the end. I mean, she still wins. By
- 23:03Speaker 3: now she gets to coach a professional, you know, coach professionally, but.
- 23:11Speaker 2: She's still Why didn't she send her to a competition
- 23:14Speaker 2: without her coach. That didn't make a lot of sense
- 23:16Speaker 2: to me. And I think you can just say, like, hey,
- 23:19Speaker 2: I'm gonna have my home base be Winter Mountain, but yeah,
- 23:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna travel with my I don't know what you
- 23:25Speaker 2: call someone you coach.
- 23:27Speaker 1: With my skiers, with my skiers.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I also don't know that he needed to win
- 23:31Speaker 2: his final race.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Oh okay, let me tell you. I was super invested
- 23:35Speaker 1: in that.
- 23:37Speaker 3: I had a full body chills showing him racing down
- 23:42Speaker 3: the mountain.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I was like, is he gonna win? Is he gonna win?
- 23:46Speaker 1: I was so excited. But I do think it would.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Have been better if just came in second place, because
- 23:51Speaker 3: then it would have been like, Okay, dude, yeah, it's
- 23:53Speaker 3: time for you to retire.
- 23:54Speaker 2: It is time for our favorite segment of the show.
- 23:57Speaker 2: And I'm sorry to say I don't have a lot
- 23:59Speaker 2: to say here but that the Did you see that
- 24:01Speaker 2: section where we discuss questions and plot holes and things
- 24:04Speaker 2: we just need to talk about.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Do you have anything here? I have a few things.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Let's talk about the title of this movie. It's called
- 24:11Speaker 3: two for the Win. What does it have to do
- 24:13Speaker 3: with anything.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Other than it being catchy.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I have no idea other than perhaps they're both winning. Right,
- 24:21Speaker 2: So he gets to choose what he wants. He's gonna
- 24:24Speaker 2: choose retirement. She finally gets to choose happiness in coaching
- 24:29Speaker 2: a professional.
- 24:31Speaker 1: It's a stretch.
- 24:32Speaker 3: It's a super stretch for me. I'm like, like, I'm
- 24:36Speaker 3: just bothered by like those kind of things. This movie
- 24:40Speaker 3: was based on a novel called Sleigh Bells in the
- 24:44Speaker 3: Snow No, which nope.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Either no, that's oh okay, isn't fit either, I know.
- 24:50Speaker 3: So I looked up the book and the synopsis of
- 24:53Speaker 3: the book is completely different from the movie.
- 24:56Speaker 1: So I was like, well, did the book.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Inspy the story of the movie.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Well, that happens a lot.
- 25:04Speaker 2: So if you'll recall Never Kiss a Man on a
- 25:06Speaker 2: Christmas Sweater that was also based on the book that
- 25:09Speaker 2: I downloaded and started and haven't finished because I get
- 25:13Speaker 2: easily distracted, But that is very different. The book is
- 25:16Speaker 2: far more enjoyable and the book is very different, so
- 25:20Speaker 2: I think they take very loose interpretations.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Of these books.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Interesting, my only did you see that moment? And it's
- 25:28Speaker 2: not even a complaint. It's the great leaderboard images. I
- 25:31Speaker 2: was like, I'm watching ESPN. This is the freaking opix
- 25:34Speaker 2: right here. I thought they did a great job of
- 25:37Speaker 2: making it look like a real leaderboard.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, Well, so I wonder you know, they actually
- 25:44Speaker 3: filmed it right on that mountain, so I wondered if
- 25:47Speaker 3: that was like actually there already and they're like, oh,
- 25:50Speaker 3: let's just use this leader.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I mean the digital one that they pop up on
- 25:54Speaker 2: screen to show everyone's position. I don't even I didn't
- 25:57Speaker 2: even see a fish one. I'm talking about, like the
- 26:00Speaker 2: digital overlay that they put on the screen to show
- 26:03Speaker 2: you where everyone's standings are.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Oh, like the ticker thing at the bottom of whatever. No.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but then they do like an overlay graphics, the graphics. Yes,
- 26:12Speaker 2: and it showed like, you know, right before he skied,
- 26:15Speaker 2: they showed who was in first place?
- 26:17Speaker 1: Oh, what it would take.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I don't really remember that. That's so funny.
- 26:23Speaker 2: They showed it twice because they showed it before he skied,
- 26:25Speaker 2: and then they showed it after he skied, showing him
- 26:27Speaker 2: in first place. And I thought, that doesn't look hokey.
- 26:30Speaker 1: That was what I noticed, Like someone did their homework.
- 26:33Speaker 2: They know what this is supposed to look like in
- 26:35Speaker 2: a ski competition, and they did a good job.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Did you notice they have their first kiss at one hour,
- 26:39Speaker 3: twelve minutes.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Oh? I noticed that it was early.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Oh, I wrote, Are we actually having a conversation about
- 26:46Speaker 2: what happens next without assuming that he's leaving and throwing
- 26:49Speaker 2: a silent tantrum? Or we actually discussing the future with
- 26:51Speaker 2: thirty minutes left to go in the movie.
- 26:55Speaker 1: That's what I mean about this movie. It felt like
- 26:58Speaker 1: they actually.
- 26:59Speaker 3: There was anything else. And I'm gonna try to talk
- 27:03Speaker 3: about this delicately. Oh, Charlotte Sullivan's hair and makeup were
- 27:08Speaker 3: so harsh in the White Snow. Okay, so our friend
- 27:12Speaker 3: Callie has already reviewed this movie and her biggest complaint
- 27:16Speaker 3: was that whoever did Charlotte Sullivan's hair did her dirty
- 27:20Speaker 3: because it was too blonde. It had like various shades
- 27:24Speaker 3: of blonde and roots, which you know, Okay, we're in
- 27:27Speaker 3: a pandemic. Maybe she's not getting her hair done. For
- 27:31Speaker 3: me personally, I just thought her makeup looked so harsh,
- 27:35Speaker 3: and I was like, she needs to warm it up.
- 27:38Speaker 3: She needed a little bit of bronzer. And I get
- 27:40Speaker 3: that we're in snow, but that doesn't mean bronzer doesn't exist.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I just needed to warm her look up a little bit.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Yeah, And if you look up Charlotte Sullivan, she has
- 27:50Speaker 2: had every hair color under the sun.
- 27:52Speaker 1: She has dropped dead gorgeous.
- 27:55Speaker 2: And I agree they washed her out in this movie.
- 27:58Speaker 3: That is a good summer of it. They washed her out. Yes, Okay,
- 28:02Speaker 3: and one more did you see that. I really enjoyed
- 28:07Speaker 3: the transitions from scene to scene where they would show
- 28:10Speaker 3: the slopes and people skiing down the slopes, and I thought,
- 28:15Speaker 3: I don't know if it's called cinematography in a Hallmark movie,
- 28:18Speaker 3: but the cinematography was beautiful in this movie.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I love the lodge, I love the mountain.
- 28:25Speaker 2: I liked that everything basically happened in two locations. You
- 28:29Speaker 2: were either on the mountain or on the lodge, and
- 28:31Speaker 2: it felt it felt real to me. It did not
- 28:33Speaker 2: feel like a set.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I enjoyed it a lot. I liked their fire pit scenes.
- 28:38Speaker 3: The only negative I had to one of the scenes
- 28:40Speaker 3: is the when they did.
- 28:41Speaker 1: The fundraiser event.
- 28:44Speaker 3: They were the silent auction and it was supposed to
- 28:47Speaker 3: be this like, you know, beautiful gala that they didn't
- 28:51Speaker 3: call a gala. But there's one scene where you've finally
- 28:54Speaker 3: seen like a wide shot and it's a very narrow
- 28:57Speaker 3: little room that they're in, and you know it's it's
- 29:00Speaker 3: for filming purposes.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I get it.
- 29:02Speaker 2: You know, all the crowd scenes. So in the opening
- 29:05Speaker 2: scene where they're flashing back to a sports awards and
- 29:08Speaker 2: you've got this like tiny little red carpet crowd that
- 29:12Speaker 2: they're trying to like hype them up, and you know, A,
- 29:16Speaker 2: we've got the limitations of filming a Hallmark movie and
- 29:18Speaker 2: B the limitations of filming a movie in a pandemic.
- 29:21Speaker 2: You know, there were a couple of times in the
- 29:24Speaker 2: final scene on the slopes where they had the big
- 29:26Speaker 2: crowd gather around him. I think they tried to create
- 29:28Speaker 2: the illusion of a crowd where they couldn't actually have one,
- 29:31Speaker 2: much like we had the weird scene in the Nashville
- 29:34Speaker 2: Christmas Carol where they filmed a live show.
- 29:36Speaker 1: In front of Anon.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Yes, it's really I'm curious to know how much of
- 29:42Speaker 2: that is pandemic influenced and how much of it is budget.
- 29:45Speaker 3: One last thought, Yes, I thought I would really hate
- 29:50Speaker 3: Trevor Donovan. I've never seen him in a movie, a
- 29:53Speaker 3: Hallmark movie, I've never seen him in anything.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I thought he.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Would be super douchey, and I actually quite enjoyed him.
- 30:00Speaker 2: I liked him way more than I thought I was
- 30:02Speaker 2: going to. I've definitely seen him at Hallmark movies before,
- 30:05Speaker 2: but didn't have an impression of him formed prior to
- 30:08Speaker 2: watching this movie, and I thought he was enjoyable me too.
- 30:12Speaker 3: I had read a review that somebody was criticizing his
- 30:16Speaker 3: acting skills, but that they blamed it on he doesn't
- 30:20Speaker 3: get the depth of a material. Yeah, you can only
- 30:23Speaker 3: do so much, right, Okay, let's get to the rating.
- 30:26Speaker 1: What did you rate this movie?
- 30:29Speaker 3: Upon completing this movie, I was like, this is a
- 30:32Speaker 3: four star movie. This is one of the best. Hold on,
- 30:35Speaker 3: I was like, this is one of the best ones
- 30:36Speaker 3: I've ever seen. This is so good I could watch
- 30:38Speaker 3: it again. I told my husband, who did not watch
- 30:41Speaker 3: this one with me. I was like, this was the
- 30:43Speaker 3: greatest one I've ever seen. But that was on Sunday morning,
- 30:46Speaker 3: and I've had a few days to think about it.
- 30:48Speaker 3: And I think because of the fact that Kayla came
- 30:53Speaker 3: back to Winter Mountain at the end and some of
- 30:57Speaker 3: the other little things. Comparing it to the one movie
- 31:02Speaker 3: that I liked a lot, taking a shot at love,
- 31:04Speaker 3: I think I'm gonna give this one three point two
- 31:07Speaker 3: five stars.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Okay, look at you star search.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I know this movie for me gets the exact same
- 31:14Speaker 2: rating that last week's movie gets, which is a two
- 31:17Speaker 2: point five star.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Get out.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I enjoyed it. I wouldn't seek it out to watch
- 31:24Speaker 2: it again. Oh, I found it a perfectly enjoyable way
- 31:27Speaker 2: to spend two hours.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I thought it was fine, just fine. Huh.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I can't even believe you're giving it the same rating
- 31:35Speaker 3: as last week's.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Last week, I really liked last week's and I thought
- 31:38Speaker 2: a point five perfectly reasonable rating. Just like I was
- 31:41Speaker 2: prepping book reviews and I give some books a three
- 31:44Speaker 2: star out of five, and I think three stars a
- 31:46Speaker 2: perfectly serviceable rating.
- 31:47Speaker 3: And it's a perfect average rating.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I agree, average, enjoyable, not terrible. Lots of things are average.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know what was hitting me
- 31:55Speaker 1: so hard.
- 31:56Speaker 3: I really liked this movie when I finished.
- 31:59Speaker 2: I'm glad you like this movie because I was worried
- 32:01Speaker 2: after last week that perhaps we were on a downturn,
- 32:04Speaker 2: like maybe I turned a corner and the bloom is
- 32:07Speaker 2: off the Hallmark movie Rose. No, I am very glad
- 32:11Speaker 2: to hear that you enjoyed this movie. We're in the
- 32:13Speaker 2: middle of a five movie series called New Year, New
- 32:18Speaker 2: Movies Again, Bring Back Winterfest. Next up we have Hallmarks
- 32:22Speaker 2: Love ever After series, which is a series of four
- 32:23Speaker 2: movies in February. Are you taking on the next four movies?
- 32:27Speaker 1: Absolutely?
- 32:28Speaker 2: Okay here, We're not going anywhere bonus episodes for the
- 32:33Speaker 2: foreseeable future.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm very excited to see them move through the seasons.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Just so wanting to give you a little bit of
- 32:40Speaker 3: an update. I was told that Winter and Veil was
- 32:45Speaker 3: an excellent movie from last season, so I watched it.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Have you seen this movie? It stars Tyler Tyler Hines
- 32:54Speaker 3: and also Lacey Sarb Shabar Lacy Shaver and she inherits
- 33:02Speaker 3: her uncle's house in Veil. Uh huh, you haven't seen it?
- 33:07Speaker 3: I have not, Okay, So I get that Tyler Hines
- 33:11Speaker 3: is like well liked, and I loved him on the
- 33:15Speaker 3: twelfth date of Christmas. He was such a jerk at
- 33:19Speaker 3: the beginning of this movie, and I was like, is
- 33:21Speaker 3: that a typical role for him? Where he plays kind
- 33:23Speaker 3: of a jerky character that comes around and ends up
- 33:26Speaker 3: being the good guy.
- 33:27Speaker 2: He was in a Christmas movie in twenty nineteen with
- 33:31Speaker 2: Kelly Pickler, and I am trying to remember. I think
- 33:36Speaker 2: he might have played a jerk in the beginning of
- 33:38Speaker 2: that movie who had to come around as well. That's
- 33:40Speaker 2: not unusual for the dudes in Hallmark movies to get
- 33:44Speaker 2: that placement because there has to be the conflict somewhere, right.
- 33:46Speaker 2: They have to, they have to not like each other.
- 33:49Speaker 2: There has to be a reason they come around. But yeah,
