- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O
- 0:16Take, presented by C Kick. This is episode 420.
- 0:20I'll be your host, Kyle Corden. And that's all you're getting.
- 0:24Because my good friend, my Co host, my partner, my buddy Nate
- 0:32Reyes got hitched last night. Saturday night shout out to him
- 0:40and Paige wished them nothing but the best.
- 0:44But obviously, as Nate had alluded to in the days leading
- 0:47up to it, he was going to be a little busy with the planning
- 0:51and getting the details and everything figured out.
- 0:53So I figured with opening weekend wrapping up I.
- 0:58Figured. What better time than to the
- 1:01drop a solo pod? Because we can't even really do
- 1:04it tomorrow night, because I think Nate has made it a plan to
- 1:13go to the Yankees game. I believe they're in Arizona
- 1:15next. So again, riding solo tonight,
- 1:20you got yours truly Kyle wrapping up the the reaction to
- 1:25MLB opening weekend. So bear with me.
- 1:28There's a lot to get into. I I can just go ahead and
- 1:31promise you right now I'm not going to get to all of it.
- 1:35There was so much to get into or to to talk about to cover.
- 1:39But it's essentially Major League baseball's opening
- 1:42weekend is essentially like drinking from a fire hose
- 1:46because you have storylines. One that we're building up
- 1:50before the season started And then you have storylines that
- 1:53are developing as the season goes on, as we're 345 games into
- 1:58the season. So we're going to get into what
- 2:01I hope are the the main storylines here, But again, bear
- 2:05with me. I apologize in advance, I may
- 2:07not get to everything that you're hoping that I get to, but
- 2:10I think I'll have the major. Bases covered so.
- 2:14Starting this off here, let's just let's just have a little
- 2:18tip of the cap to some some teams that had some notable
- 2:20starts. Well I say tip of the cap.
- 2:22Some of these teams certainly undeserving of a of a tip of the
- 2:25cap. But right off the top, let's
- 2:30let's show some love to. The.
- 2:34Pittsburgh Pirates starting off 4 and O, we're we're definitely
- 2:38going to get into some Pirates. Talk Marlins O and four at the
- 2:42hands of the Pirates Yankees. How about the Bronx Bombers 4
- 2:47and O the Dogs as Alex Verdugo maybe.
- 2:54Maybe began the label of after the sweep.
- 2:58Astros O and four at the hands of the Yankees Tigers A sleeper
- 3:04pick in the Central That I think a lot of people or maybe not a
- 3:08lot of people, but a A. Handful of folks maybe had as as
- 3:12that. Surprise seem coming out of the
- 3:14Central whereas myself some others maybe had the Royals in
- 3:19in the mix later down later down the road.
- 3:22Tiger starting off strong good for them.
- 3:24White Sox O and three. Brewers were certainly going to
- 3:29get into that little bit of a fiasco with the Mets.
- 3:33Brewer starting three and O Mets O and three.
- 3:37But also wanted to show show some love to some teams like the
- 3:40Padres, the D backs, the Braves and even others putting up big
- 3:45crooked numbers offensively. Over the weekend you had the
- 3:50Reds have a walk off, you got Fernando Tatis TE Oscar
- 3:54Hernandez, everybody. There was some some firepower
- 3:59this weekend, so just wanted to again before we get into the the
- 4:03the meat and potatoes of the weekend, just wanted to give
- 4:07some love to some of those teams and players.
- 4:11But getting into it, I already mentioned it.
- 4:14I I think this is probably the biggest or one of the.
- 4:19Biggest, if not the biggest takeaways?
- 4:21Storylines from the weekend, the Mets, Brewers beef.
- 4:27I'll go ahead and say right now that I did not have this.
- 4:34Dare we call it? Rivalry starting brewing, Pun
- 4:39intended. Look, the Mets I.
- 4:45Look, if you follow this podcast for any length of time or just
- 4:50Nate and I in general for any length of time, you know how I
- 4:55feel about how we feel about the Mets and even really the Brewer.
- 4:59So honestly, when this happened, you know, I I was a little torn.
- 5:04I didn't really know which team to side with because I'm not the
- 5:07biggest Brewers guy. Haven't been for a while.
- 5:10Certainly not a big Mets guy. I even I I tweeted out this
- 5:15weekend that the Mets following the the fiasco actually
- 5:20following the in in intentional pitch behind which I'll touch
- 5:25on. I just tweeted out, Simply put,
- 5:27that the Mets are the most pathetic franchise in baseball.
- 5:33And I believe that before the season started.
- 5:35And then all of this went down. Talk about doubling down on
- 5:40that. Take the Mets.
- 5:42Are. The most pathetic franchise in
- 5:45baseball. And I'll stand by.
- 5:46That's a hill that I will die on Without a problem.
- 5:49Without an issue. So if you.
- 5:52Live under a rock. I'll give you a little bit of a
- 5:54rundown as to what happened. So there was a play at the
- 5:58middle where Rhes Hoskins is coming in as a base runner.
- 6:04Jeff McNeil prepared to receive, make the transition, make the
- 6:09throw. Turn 2 receives a throw, goes,
- 6:13goes to make the throw. Rhys Hoskin comes in with a late
- 6:16slide look. There's been a lot of takes
- 6:20flying around and mine is just going to be another one that's
- 6:24in that mix of takes flying around who, who's what, what
- 6:28weight do my takes hold. But you're hopefully you're here
- 6:31listening. So I appreciate you if you are
- 6:34interested and take value in the takes that we share on here.
- 6:37But with that said, I'll just say that and.
- 6:44I look, I'm only 30 years old. I'm not going to sit here and
- 6:48drop the hole back in my day thing.
- 6:53But it wasn't even that long ago to where this was a very normal,
- 6:59widely accepted slide. You were taught as of and this
- 7:03isn't like there's probably people listening to go, whoa,
- 7:06what would you know did. You play professional baseball?
- 7:08No, I didn't. I'll be the first to tell you I
- 7:10played Division Three college baseball.
- 7:13I was proud of it. But who?
- 7:15Who am I to to say one way or the other?
- 7:19All I'm telling you? From what, From my experience,
- 7:22from what I know, and from following the game, for as long
- 7:24as I have, guys are taught to slide late.
- 7:30Why, you ask? To break up the throw, which is
- 7:33exactly what happened here. Now, I'm not going to sit here
- 7:36and try to tell you or convince you out of believing that maybe
- 7:42a new reinforcements of of base running rules or sliding rules.
- 7:48I I don't know where Major League Baseball stands on that
- 7:51at this particular point in time.
- 7:52I know we've had some issues. Dustin Petroia Chase Sutley
- 7:57Involved in separate incidents. Over years past.
- 8:03But looking at the video from this play, I I just have a hard
- 8:11time getting upset with Reese about this.
- 8:13And and I know immediately when it happened, you've got Jeff
- 8:16McNeil just in his face letting him know.
- 8:20And look, I talk all the time about like, if you're going to
- 8:24talk about it, be about it. It.
- 8:27Wasn't the best. Look, if we're being honest, for
- 8:30Reese Hoskins to get up immediately, make his way over
- 8:35to the dugout. He begins to be held back once
- 8:38he starts getting fired up a little bit and then from behind
- 8:41the railing, if I if if I recall correctly, it was behind the
- 8:45railing of the top step of the dugout is when he starts the
- 8:49whole crying gesture to Jeff McNeil.
- 8:53I I get it. Jeff McNeil.
- 8:55Seemed to be a little, a little. Hot about this.
- 8:58And I understand Guy's guy's careers have been ruined over
- 9:01stuff like this. So I understand where the
- 9:03frustration comes from. The heat of the moment, but just
- 9:06a weird, a weird situation where he comes in late again.
- 9:11I thought it was. It wasn't the cleanest slide,
- 9:15but to me it was a hard it was a hard play.
- 9:17It was a hard attempt to break up a a play up the middle.
- 9:22Jeff McNeil took exception to that, and apparently so did
- 9:25Johann Ramirez. Who later was it?
- 9:28The Was it today? Was it?
- 9:30Later in the game. Again drinking from a fire hose
- 9:34this opening weekend there's a lot a lot that gets lost in in
- 9:37the mix either way after the fact Johann Ramirez throws
- 9:43behind Reese Hoskins which was such a loser move to sit and and
- 9:47I know they're they all come out and say well there's no
- 9:49intention behind it and then you got you got the manager coming
- 9:53out saying no I I'm backing my guy there was no.
- 9:56There was no intent behind it. There it was clear as day.
- 10:00You're going to throw at it? It wasn't.
- 10:03It wasn't really at his head. It was more behind the neck,
- 10:06behind the numbers, behind the nameplate, that general
- 10:09vicinity, but very, very clearly intentional.
- 10:15Did it happen to anybody else in the lineup in that in that
- 10:19specific way? No Rhes Hoskins has has a has a
- 10:25reason to be upset if he thinks his slide was was a clean slide,
- 10:29a hard play, an aggressive play. He has every.
- 10:33Reason to be upset and look guys, I I think Carrabba's
- 10:38tweeted it. He said rhes Hoskins has played
- 10:40his entire career in Philly. Hit your booze, do nothing but
- 10:44fuel him and sure enough guy goes off.
- 10:47He's got a two run single A2 run bomb.
- 10:49He had an answer. For this whole incident, and
- 10:53quite frankly, the Mets come out of this situation looking like
- 10:56absolute. Losers you get.
- 10:58Swept I I don't know if the if the decision has been made yet.
- 11:05I don't know if that's wait if that has to wait till Monday on
- 11:07the suspension. I don't know if we've heard back
- 11:09on that, but chances are that that'll probably remain and
- 11:13maybe get, I don't know, probably get dropped a game, if
- 11:16anything. But just to.
- 11:19Just a rough look for the Mets to start the season.
- 11:22Not to mention you got the dance team coming out.
- 11:26They're they're on top of the dugout.
- 11:28Mets are getting the freaking brakes beat off them.
- 11:31You got they're out there doing Gangnam Style and just breaking
- 11:37it down for a couple of Mets breakdowns, if you will.
- 11:44And then you got Pete Alonzo. Which look, I I don't have a
- 11:47problem with Pete Alonzo showing up to a country concert and and
- 11:50getting up on stage and and having a grand old time.
- 11:53I've I've said before. We.
- 11:55Treat these guys as if they're not human beings.
- 11:57Like these guys are entitled to a life outside of the lines out
- 12:01off the diamond. So look, I, I, I, I, I don't
- 12:04have a problem with Pete Alonzo going to a country concert.
- 12:07I just think context matters. And if you've got Pete Alonzo
- 12:10going to a country concert in the midst of a a a sweep to
- 12:14start the season. Not the greatest look in my
- 12:18opinion. So all that to say, I just think
- 12:23it was such a a loser weekend. I'll just, I'll just leave it at
- 12:30that. A loser weekend for the Mets.
- 12:32And again. Not a big Brewers guy.
- 12:35I'm not going to necessarily come out as this big Rhys
- 12:38Hoskins Homer, but if we're talking about maybe picking a
- 12:42side for this little incident, I'm probably going to side with
- 12:46Reese Houskins because again, I don't.
- 12:48While it was a while, it was a hard slide, I think it was a
- 12:51clean slide. You're taught again to slide
- 12:53late to break up the throw and that's what he did.
- 12:56So I'll. Leave it at that.
- 12:57Talking about move, moving along here, talking about altercation.
- 13:04More so, a more unnecessary, in my opinion, than even the Mets.
- 13:09Brewers One was this Blue Jays Rays benches clearing brawl.
- 13:14I wasn't even really a brawl. It was a bench benches clearing.
- 13:17Get together over there at third base for those who didn't see
- 13:21it, for those who who either don't follow these teams or just
- 13:24didn't catch it. Blue Jay, I want to make sure I
- 13:27get these these these individuals who were involved,
- 13:30right you had? Hennisys Cabrera and Jose
- 13:35Caballero from the Rays. Basically what happened is you
- 13:39had. Honestly, I may need to pull up
- 13:44the may need to pull up the the play, just as a refresher.
- 13:48But if I recall, Caballero was coming into third.
- 13:55Let me see here. Oh, that's right.
- 14:01Yeah, yeah. So it was a.
- 14:02It was a. A little bunt down the third
- 14:05baseline ball is thrown to first, runs down the runs down
- 14:10the the foul line there gets by the 1st baseman.
- 14:13He makes his way around second, coming into third, hosed by a
- 14:16mile. Buchet is there at 3rd to tag
- 14:20him out and then. Bumps into Cabrera and honestly
- 14:25that's where it should have stopped right then and there
- 14:28Right then and there you bump into hey my bad my bad.
- 14:31I I maybe should have been a little step back and maybe maybe
- 14:34these things were said initially maybe there was some
- 14:36miscommunication maybe didn't quite relay the the sentiment of
- 14:42apology or whatever it was right there in the in the in the
- 14:46moment and Caballero just takes take exception to the whole
- 14:50thing and. He's like, all right dude, if
- 14:54you want to throw down, let's throw down.
- 14:55And then you got Cabrera throwing hand.
- 14:57Like, quite literally throwing hands.
- 14:59And if you've seen the slow MO video of it, it's I tweeted out.
- 15:03I said. I shouldn't be laughing as hard
- 15:04as hand, but I gotta admit it was it was pretty comical the
- 15:09way like his, the way his face was just like contorted.
- 15:13It was a it was just it was a scene, but.
- 15:17Just completely unnecessary and I tweeted it out.
- 15:19I was like, why is everybody so just like on edge Three games in
- 15:26the season and I gotta I I want to make sure I give.
- 15:30I want to give credit where credit's due, Chris Madison on
- 15:33Twitter replied to my tweet, which again, my tweet, I said
- 15:37why are players so sensitive three days into the season?
- 15:40And I and I. Tweeted the video of the the
- 15:42slow MO, hands to the face, which again, just.
- 15:45You you need to pull it up if you haven't seen it, Chris
- 15:48Madison says. They're taking their anger out
- 15:51on each other. The uniforms.
- 15:52Rob Manfred sucks. The new ER rules suck.
- 15:56Like obstruction of the bag. It's second base.
- 15:58So on and so forth. He's look, I hadn't considered
- 16:02that point until he tweeted it out.
- 16:03It's a very valid point. I'd probably be upset too if I
- 16:11if I was up against all of these things.
- 16:13You know the uniforms, which little, Little.
- 16:16Let's let's pause here and address that nonsense.
- 16:22The series that I I had my eye on, partially because it was the
- 16:26IT was the series that opened the season was the Orioles and
- 16:29Angels. So it was the first instance of
- 16:32me seeing this. The Angels Rd. uniforms are
- 16:39awful. Like, forget the name plates on
- 16:42the back. The the 2 tone Gray Rd. uniforms
- 16:47and I I I believe it's elsewhere around the league with some of
- 16:51these other Rd. teams that we've seen and I'm sure as as teams
- 16:55start hitting the road or maybe who are home, we're going to see
- 16:57more examples of this not. A good look, dude.
- 17:02What are we doing? Major League Baseball fanatics?
- 17:07Nike. It's beyond it.
- 17:09It's beyond. Complaining about now it's it's
- 17:12more of a general question It honestly, right.
- 17:17I'm sitting right here as a baseball fan.
- 17:19I'm looking at Nike Major League Baseball fanatics and I'm
- 17:23genuinely asking do you see the same uniforms that we're seeing?
- 17:30I really want to know are are like, are you seeing the same
- 17:33things that we're seeing like. And if you are, you're you're
- 17:36telling me you're OK with this, You're OK with this?
- 17:41Because that's embarrassing. I'm sorry, I I couldn't.
- 17:46Do a job to where? I mean, I'm not.
- 17:50Saying, I'm not trying to sit here and say I would like
- 17:52shortchange any other job that I do, but especially one where the
- 17:55product that you put forth is witnessed on such a national,
- 18:02just generally large scale the way the Major League Baseball
- 18:07product is, is viewed and seen. I would not put a product out
- 18:12there. It's this bad.
- 18:16And again, I don't we don't need to rehash the name, but the size
- 18:19of the names, those are awful. We don't need to rehash the the
- 18:22placement of patches and and stitching and and all this.
- 18:26I I just don't think I realized how bad the whole 2 tone Gray
- 18:31is. They don't match.
- 18:33They're not the same color and I don't think we had really dove
- 18:37into that. In spring training, because it
- 18:40wasn't as blatantly like, it just wasn't as transparent as
- 18:45we're seeing it now. Because, I mean, everybody's
- 18:47watching these games now. Not everybody necessarily was
- 18:49watching spring training games. So maybe it.
- 18:51Flew a little bit under the radar.
- 18:52If that was a problem that existed, then, but oh, I just
- 18:56wanted to address that. And not to mention the sweat.
- 18:58Oh my goodness, I I don't think we realized that was that bad
- 19:02either. You want to talk about the Look
- 19:05at the Yankees, for example, down in Houston and we're
- 19:08talking like low to mid 70s for those games.
- 19:11What? We haven't even reached May.
- 19:14We haven't even reached June. Forget August.
- 19:17We haven't even reached the, the, the.
- 19:19Heat the true heat of the summer and these guys look like wet
- 19:23napkins out there. These uniforms look like wet
- 19:26napkins. What are we doing?
- 19:30Fix your product. That's all I'll say on that.
- 19:33But back-to-back to this, what were what?
- 19:36Were we talking about little scuffle here?
- 19:38Yeah, just generally both of these I think were could have
- 19:43been avoided. They were unnecessary again.
- 19:47Oh, that's what my that's what my thought was.
- 19:48That's that's how we transitioned.
- 19:50I I don't know why, why everybody around the league
- 19:53right now is so uptight. Like, let's relax.
- 19:55OK, let's relax. It's not that serious.
- 19:57We're three games into the well, I guess technically the Dodgers
- 20:00are like, what, 5-6 games in? But generally speaking, we're
- 20:06like 3-4 games into the season. Everybody just needs to chill,
- 20:10like this is the time of the year where you're supposed to
- 20:12be. Look I'm not I'm not here for
- 20:15like being all buddy, buddy out on the field.
- 20:19But like if you are going to be all buddy, buddy out on the
- 20:21field with some some teammates or some players of the opposing
- 20:26team, now is the time to do it. Like, hey man, how was your
- 20:29spring? We were, I mean as you well know
- 20:31we were out in Arizona. You were in Florida.
- 20:33How was it out there? Let's catch up a little bit
- 20:35while we're in between pitches. That's when you do it.
- 20:39But we're taking our downtime in between pitches, in between outs
- 20:43to to to bust out the boxing gloves.
- 20:46I don't, I don't understand. It's it's too early for this.
- 20:50OK I'm all for like brewing up some rivalries a little bit.
- 20:55Maybe some under the radar rivalries.
- 20:58But let's let's pump the brakes a little bit shall we?
- 21:03Just just a little bit Orioles. Let's let's talk some Orioles
- 21:08here real quick. I know I already mentioned them.
- 21:11It was the series that, as again as I said to OR that opened up
- 21:16the Major League season. On Opening Day, that is
- 21:20obviously not Dodgers, Padres and Korea.
- 21:23But with that said, this was the first series that I was.
- 21:26I was locked into on Opening Day.
- 21:28I think it had like a. Was it a?
- 21:314:00 PM, Yeah, 4:00 PM start. 3:00 PM start, which Another
- 21:36thing. I thought it was odd that there
- 21:37was no 1:00 PM games. I correct me if I'm wrong, but I
- 21:40feel like that's pretty normal. Pretty standard little 1:00
- 21:45action on opening day. I mean if if we're.
- 21:49If we're trying to make a push for it to be a national holiday,
- 21:52I'm going to need it to start earlier in the day and not like
- 21:55basically after the work days, just about over slash coming to
- 21:59a close, going to need to start a little bit earlier, so maybe
- 22:03give me a little something earlier in the afternoon so I
- 22:07can really enjoy the day as it should be enjoyed.
- 22:13But with that said, right off the top man, Mike Trout talk
- 22:19about, I don't want to say a comeback season, maybe a little
- 22:23bit of a revenge season. I think that's something that we
- 22:25touched on in previous episodes this spring before the season
- 22:28started talking about. How this might be the year or a
- 22:34year, I should say we've had. We've seen magical seasons from
- 22:37Mike Trout in in years past, obviously, but I think this
- 22:40might be a year that you see independent of of how the Angels
- 22:46do. This has nothing to do with how
- 22:47the Angels do. Purely Mike, purely talking Mike
- 22:50Trout here where you see him remind people.
- 22:54Who he is and what kind of player he is, because I I look,
- 22:58I think. He and Otani, at the end of the
- 23:00day, they. They were, they were good, good
- 23:02buddies out there in Anaheim. But I think he maybe if he's
- 23:08being honest, if you talk, if you had a chat with him behind
- 23:10closed doors, he maybe was got a little fed up with like the hey,
- 23:14you're just going to toss me aside like a rag doll once Otani
- 23:16walks through the door and like understandably so, Otani is
- 23:19Otani. We don't need to go down that
- 23:21rabbit hole. But Mike Trout's going, what
- 23:25happened to the whole best player in the game narrative?
- 23:27You can't. I mean, certainly if Otani is
- 23:30better than me that still keeps me in the conversation.
- 23:33But it's almost as. If people have completely just
- 23:35disregarded what I bring to the table and and granted I
- 23:38understand he's going through he's had some issues with
- 23:40injuries and all that. But I mean Mike Trout had to
- 23:43probably feel a little bit slighted.
- 23:45So for him to come out right off right out of the gate.
- 23:49Solo bomb I believe it was solo bomb to to get things going for
- 23:54his 2024 season. I loved that dude.
- 23:57I love that I'm a I'm a. Look, I'll say at the end of the
- 24:03day, I'm a huge Mike Trout guy. I know I've.
- 24:06I've waned a little bit in in years.
- 24:08Past because it just gets. I get tired of the injury bug
- 24:12always sneaking up some of it more on him, some of it just bad
- 24:17luck. I understand that.
- 24:19But I'm I'm never going to root against Mike Trout.
- 24:21I guess it's the best way to put it.
- 24:22And so again, for him to come out and start the way he did was
- 24:25awesome. But more importantly, I think
- 24:27Corbin Burns making his debut for the Orioles.
- 24:31When 11 or had 11 strikeouts over six innings, OS put up an
- 24:3611 three win. Another big crooked number to
- 24:41get things started. He.
- 24:42Retired 18 of the 19 guys he faced which again the only only
- 24:49real Ding against his his outing was the Mike Trout home run, but
- 24:52otherwise brilliant. So you love to see a guy like.
- 24:57Corbin Burns get settled in. Right at right, right away O's
- 25:04fans. I I think I mentioned it last
- 25:06episode. I I feel like I'm with with Ryan
- 25:10Ripken and some some of his buddies that and I'm getting
- 25:14more engaged with in terms of content.
- 25:16I see more Orioles content now than I think I do of any other
- 25:19team and so I'm getting a really good feel.
- 25:23I'm getting a really good pulse of of how excited Orioles fans
- 25:27are about this season. Not that I needed to see a bunch
- 25:29of that to know that you could just assume that was the case.
- 25:33But seeing Corbin Burns go off, seeing Grace Rodriguez have an
- 25:37outing. Gunner Henderson.
- 25:38I mean Gunner Henderson finished a double short of the cycle on
- 25:42was it yesterday Saturday. I mean just all things moving in
- 25:49in in the Orioles direction. Yeah, I I'm.
- 25:53Loving what I'm seeing in Baltimore.
- 25:55I mean as a fan of another team in the AL East, I don't love it
- 25:58in that regard. But I think we can look at the
- 26:00Orioles as a team maybe in their their own world right now, in
- 26:03their own, at their own level, in their own tier that we can,
- 26:08as baseball fans just appreciate and enjoy.
- 26:11But I don't think Speaking of enjoying, I don't think OS fans
- 26:15are are enjoying seeing Jackson Holiday start in AAA, going deep
- 26:20his first AB in AAA or this season rather off a lefty like
- 26:28the whole hang up and I think we mentioned it the the the hang up
- 26:33with or the supposed I'll say hang up with with.
- 26:38The front office was that and well, he needed to.
- 26:40He needed to season himself a little bit more against some
- 26:45some skilled lefties to to get some more reps in seeing the
- 26:50ball coming in from. That side of the plate.
- 26:53And like, I'm surprised, but I'm also at the same time not
- 26:58surprised. The 1st at bat of the season for
- 27:01Jackson Holiday. Just a moon shot to right center
- 27:05off a lefty. So I think you're going to start
- 27:11hearing even more noise about Jackson Holiday needing to be in
- 27:17the big league lineup soon. Keeping it in the American
- 27:22League East. The Yankees.
- 27:25Oh man. I know Nate is.
- 27:29He's probably chomping at the bit to talk about this New York
- 27:33Yankees team and look, I'll, I'll be the hand up first to
- 27:37acknowledge New York Yankees. Have a weekend, Have a weekend.
- 27:44Minus the sweaty uniforms, the wet napkins that you're wearing.
- 27:48Which again, not your fault. Have just have a weekend and
- 27:54Juan Soto my good. Actually let's let's just before
- 27:59we get into the Juan Soto talk, let's tip our let's tip our cap
- 28:02to Oswaldo Cabrera. How about that, man, I'm seeing
- 28:07Yankee fans who were anti Oswaldo Cabrera or maybe even on
- 28:13the fence in regards to Oswaldo Cabrera.
- 28:16They're saying no, you have to keep him in the line up until he
- 28:19cools off. That's just how the game works.
- 28:22And I'm seeing, I'm seeing comments like that.
- 28:25I'm going if the guys that they're on the fence about are
- 28:28starting off this well, like you don't even need to talk about
- 28:33guys like Juan Soto who? Who you know are just going to
- 28:37see the ball, hit the ball and take care of their business, so.
- 28:42They're clicking on all cylinders right now at least
- 28:44four games through the season. But Juan Soto RBI single in the
- 28:52ninth is today is what gave them the the four-game sweep over
- 28:58Houston in Houston which I tweeted out as well.
- 29:04Juan Soto owns Houston. Like forget whether it's Yankees
- 29:08Nationals minute man. That's that's.
- 29:12Aswan Soto's home right there, Minute Maid Park.
- 29:16And he was, I mean, he was putting balls into the seats
- 29:18off. What was it?
- 29:19Justin Verlander when he was 20 years.
- 29:22Old. And now he's now he's putting
- 29:26up, putting up the Yankees ahead in Houston.
- 29:31I mean, I'm glad to see it, man. I mean, he hit 529 this series,
- 29:379 for 17. He had four ribbies.
- 29:42Yankees are now four and O to start the season, its first four
- 29:47and O starts since O3 and just its fourth since 1950.
- 29:52But on that note, I will say regarding Juan Soto.
- 29:57Look. I'm seeing a lot of comments
- 29:58from from Yankee fans saying they're tweeting out, hey, how
- 30:03so? How much are we going to give
- 30:04this guy and for how long? Look, I love that you that you
- 30:09all love your new shiny toy. But just stand by if this if
- 30:13this is the Juan Soto and you want to talk about consistency,
- 30:18this guy is consistent. If he is consistent in the
- 30:24regards to his month by month splits, Yankee fans.
- 30:28I will. I will.
- 30:29Warn you Stand by for the month of April.
- 30:32You look at his splits. April is by far statistically
- 30:37his worst month as is for a number of guys around the
- 30:40league. Like you.
- 30:41Some guys are ready to go at opening day.
- 30:43Some guys need need that first month to to get warmed up.
- 30:47But I I know specifically this dip that he takes right away,
- 30:53right off the top in April from a fantasy baseball perspective,
- 30:56cause I've had him in fantasy before and a guy like Juan Soto
- 31:00is hard to flip if you're trying to maybe get a package in
- 31:05return, but people are looking at his April numbers going.
- 31:07Whoa, whoa, whoa, this. What's the deal here?
- 31:12But as as consistency would have it, Juan Soto is going to turn
- 31:18it around. But I'm just saying from an
- 31:21outsider's perspective. Yankees fans, I will warn you to
- 31:24just prepare for the April dip. It's coming.
- 31:27He's still gonna, he's gonna get on base.
- 31:29That's not the issue. But he's not gonna have the
- 31:32power numbers necessarily. The OPS, the OPS plus isn't
- 31:36gonna look as shiny mid to late April as maybe it does four
- 31:43games into the season. And I know it's hard to maintain
- 31:46this, the rate he's hitting at right now, but.
- 31:48Let's just again, just prepare yourselves.
- 31:51It's coming, but who knows, maybe you know new team, maybe
- 31:55we we've mentioned it here the past week or two.
- 31:58Nobody seems to have been a better fit for a Yankees uniform
- 32:03than Juan Soto. Maybe this guy was born to be
- 32:05Yankee. Maybe the the outcome for his
- 32:08month of April in 2024 is different than the rest of his
- 32:11career. But again, if we're talking
- 32:13consistency, which this guy is, then I'll say it again.
- 32:18Just prepare yourselves. Pirates Let's Let's transition
- 32:23to some Pirates talk. The box 4 and O.
- 32:33How about it? How about it?
- 32:39There's a four-game Rd. sweep of a don't forget a 2023 playoff
- 32:45team in the Miami Marlins. So this isn't anything to turn
- 32:49your nose up at. Baseball fans, anti Pirates
- 32:53fans, yours truly. I got the receipts.
- 32:58You can go back and look at the hot takes and predictions
- 33:00episode. I was talking high on the
- 33:03Pirates. Nate wasn't necessarily.
- 33:06I don't think Ryan was necessarily Ryan.
- 33:10Sorry if you were. I was talking up on the Pirates
- 33:15and I'm not going to sit here and say that.
- 33:17A four-game Rd. series, a Rd. sweep.
- 33:22Rather there's an indication of a a World Series team, but it's
- 33:26a a heck of a good start. If you remember last year they
- 33:29started 20 and eight, so who knows, maybe they replicate
- 33:35something, something along those lines.
- 33:40But maybe this year they take it a little bit further because if
- 33:43you. Recall Pirates had a little bit
- 33:44of a fall off or substantial fall off.
- 33:49If you're a Pirates fan maybe maybe it's a little more of a
- 33:52soft spot for you. But some some takeaways that I
- 33:57did come across in my in my just digging around again all of the
- 34:04the. Storylines from this weekend it
- 34:07looking specifically at the Pirates I I came across this
- 34:10stat that said the Pirates went three and nine in extra Indians
- 34:14a year ago. So again take the four and O
- 34:18start with a grain of salt but and and take the the this nugget
- 34:22as well with a grain of salt but it's still an encouraging take
- 34:25away. They went three and nine in the
- 34:27next year innings last year which was the 4th worst record
- 34:31among all teams last year. This year, they're already two
- 34:34and O, so they're already finding ways to win late.
- 34:38And they're they're doing it against again a 2023 playoff
- 34:43team. And say what you will about the
- 34:45Miami Marlins facts are facts. 2023 playoff team regarding the
- 34:51Pirates 4 and O start. It's the fourth time they've
- 34:54started this well in the past 40 years and the first time the
- 34:59club has started the season with a four.
- 35:01Game Rd. Series sweep since 19 O.
- 35:03Three so you know good on the Pirates.
- 35:07I as. As you know, on this podcast I
- 35:10have a little. Bit of a, a a.
- 35:12Pirate's Jingle queued up. I'm not going to, I'm not going
- 35:17to unleash that on you this early in the season.
- 35:19But look, man if if. They if they keep it up, if they
- 35:23get, if they get hot, I mean, they're.
- 35:25Already hot right out of the gate.
- 35:27But if they if, they heat. Up a little bit more, they
- 35:29extend this. Maybe they extend this winning
- 35:32streak or they just have a They have a a a run of games where
- 35:38they're pushing last year's start again, 20 and eight.
- 35:41If they they, I'll say right now, if they start off that
- 35:44well, you bet you can bet that I'm breaking out that pirate's
- 35:48music. So again, props to the props, to
- 35:54the Bucks, man. That's just one of the many
- 35:57storylines takeaways from this season or opening weekend, I
- 36:02should say. Not the season.
- 36:04Opening weekend that I think. It's just refreshing because
- 36:09again as you as you know, as we kind of saw last year, the
- 36:13Pirates were a good feel good story, but it it tapered off
- 36:17real quick. But it's just encouraging to see
- 36:21that, you know, they bounce back, they start off the way
- 36:23they do and they position themselves to possibly be more
- 36:28than a feel good story this year.
- 36:30There are some people that have them in the post season.
- 36:32I won't say who, but there are people that have the Pirates in
- 36:35the post season. Not myself, but time will tell.
- 36:39We shall see. A team that I think we all have
- 36:42in the post season, the Los Angeles Dodgers before the
- 36:47season even started, which I don't even.
- 36:49I don't think we've had a chance to run through this.
- 36:54But at this, at this point, it's kind of old news.
- 36:56But the Will Smith extension. Dodgers extending him to a 10
- 36:59year, $140 million extension. Look, there's a lot of news
- 37:02thrown out by Padres fans ironically criticizing the
- 37:09todgers for extending somebody into their late 30s, which this
- 37:14contract would run him through 2033, which would be his age 38
- 37:18season. A lot of lot of noise coming
- 37:21from Padres fans talking about, oh, what happened to giving us a
- 37:25hard time about extending guys into our late 30s.
- 37:29The difference? Is.
- 37:31Or they're not spending 300 + 1,000,000 dollars on this guy.
- 37:35They're getting Will Smith, one of the game's best catchers, at
- 37:40a clip of 10 years for 140 million.
- 37:44That's a a a steal, a bargain I don't.
- 37:49I don't know what the going rate for All Star Caliber catchers
- 37:52are or is, but that sounds pretty good to me.
- 37:57And if you have to, if you have to bite it a little bit at the
- 38:00end of that contract and say hey thanks for your service, maybe
- 38:04there's another role for him to slide into at that stage of his
- 38:07career. I I highly doubt he's going to
- 38:09be catching at age 38. You got a guy that's prove he's
- 38:15proven himself. He's 29.
- 38:17He just he literally just turned 29.
- 38:19He's proven himself to as. A as a.
- 38:23Necessary and pivotal piece to this lineup as as star-studded
- 38:30as this lineup is, I don't know if it goes the same way or at
- 38:35the same rate without Will Smith behind the dish as the engine.
- 38:41Because we all, we all know you can have.
- 38:43You can have an MVP in right field, you can have an MVP at
- 38:45shortstop, you can have an MVP at third base.
- 38:49You need somebody to be able to. To steer the shit from behind
- 38:53the dish. So I'm glad they did this.
- 38:55I think it was long overdue. I know Dodgers fans and even
- 38:59Dodgers players I believe were were.
- 39:01Clamoring for this, so good for Will to get that extension.
- 39:06But talking about other guys around the diamond for the the
- 39:10Dodgers. Bobby Miller.
- 39:13I want to want to give some props to Bobby Miller.
- 39:16A guy who coming into the season I think the expectations the the
- 39:21hopes for Bobby Miller were raised and rightfully so.
- 39:25He he he's shown you what he's capable of, but can he put it
- 39:30together over the course of 162? I would say he started off well
- 39:35in that regard. Friday night went 6 deep, only
- 39:38allowed two hits and racked up 11 KS no runs.
- 39:43So props to Bobby Miller for for quite an outing, one of one of a
- 39:49few pitchers. I mean, I already mentioned
- 39:50Corbin Burns, Grace Grace Rodriguez had a had an outing,
- 39:55but there were some very, very impressive starts across
- 40:00rotations around the league this weekend.
- 40:03So that was encouraging to see because you always hear about
- 40:07spring training and and who it's really for and who really
- 40:11benefits from from the early start, whether it's hitters or
- 40:14pitchers, who needs more time? So it's encouraging to see
- 40:18hitters around the league and pitchers alike.
- 40:21Not everybody, but a a a fair amount having the strong starts
- 40:27that they have. It's very encouraging to see and
- 40:30I'm sure fans of these teams that that employ these players
- 40:36are are thrilled. But I'll just say like generally
- 40:38as a baseball fan, it's fun to see a guy like Bobby Miller go
- 40:41out and dice like that. That's good baseball.
- 40:43I don't. I know people are rooting for
- 40:45the Dodgers specifically for their downfall.
- 40:47But like, I just want to. I just want to have more names
- 40:51that can be appointment television throughout the course
- 40:54of an entire season. Because as we know, it gets, it
- 40:58gets dry, it gets real slow there, like in the middle,
- 41:01there's a couple lulls throughout there.
- 41:03So if I got a guy like Bobby Miller, who in years past it was
- 41:07Clayton Kershaw, If I've got a guy like Bobby Miller, Tyler
- 41:10Glass, now Grayson Rodriguez, just names like that.
- 41:13Who are, you know, getting to where we hoped they would be at
- 41:19this point in time? That's good for baseball.
- 41:22I don't care if you don't, if you hate the Dodgers, if you
- 41:24love the Dodgers, or any other team for that matter, that's got
- 41:27a guy like this, it's good for baseball, and you should be
- 41:29rooting for that. So again, props to Bobby Miller,
- 41:34Mookie Betts, though let's talk about Mookie Betts.
- 41:37And I apologize to Mookie Betts. For getting this late in the
- 41:42episode before we really. Brought him up, but my goodness
- 41:47and I look, I'm going to talk about him, 'cause he's on my
- 41:49fantasy squad. And he's also, if you recall, if
- 41:53if you haven't listened to the hot takes and predictions
- 41:55episode give you a little bit of a a.
- 41:57Preview. Here, first of all, why haven't
- 41:59you? Second of all, you need to do
- 42:01that like now as we're still in a few games in the season, you
- 42:05still got time to get caught up and and.
- 42:10Understand what we're all about this year in 2024, because look,
- 42:14we're going to be referencing that episode and the predictions
- 42:17we made in that episode all year long.
- 42:19So just a little plug here for the hot tech and predictions
- 42:22episode. If you haven't listened to it,
- 42:23do it now. Oh, finish this episode and then
- 42:27to go do it. So queue it up.
- 42:29Mookie Betts, my 2024 MVP pick and just.
- 42:37As a little spoiler again, for those of you who haven't
- 42:39listened to the hot texts and predictions episode, I also said
- 42:44that he was going to transition to shortstop and win a Gold
- 42:49Club. And I mean, the guy is playing
- 42:59at an elite level right now on both.
- 43:02Sides of the ball and I think he.
- 43:03Had like a little bit of a. A little bit of a Was it a
- 43:06throwing error? Maybe on Thursday or Saturday, I
- 43:12can't remember. But that aside playing
- 43:16phenomenal baseball, he homered. I don't believe he homered
- 43:21tonight, Sunday Night Baseball against the Cardinals.
- 43:27But entering entering Sunday Night Baseball, he had homered
- 43:30in four straight games. Shout out to Xavier Scruggs, he
- 43:37tweeted. He said he's the Moogie Bets as
- 43:38the first player with an OPS above 2010 plus RB is over his
- 43:43first five games of a season. Remember Dodgers?
- 43:46Padres played two in Korea, so he had a little bit of a.
- 43:51I'll say a head start to the season.
- 43:52So he threw first five games this season, the 1st to do that
- 43:57again. First player with OPS over above
- 43:592, 2010 plus RB is over his first five games of a season
- 44:04since Barry Bonds in 2002. If you know anything about
- 44:07baseball, you know anything about Barry Bonds, that's
- 44:09probably probably the best company that you can have from a
- 44:13statistical standpoint. Forget the the storylines and
- 44:16narratives around Barry Bonds. Statistically that's that's good
- 44:20company and I think we can safely assume Mookie Betts is
- 44:23free and clear of. Any any substances in that
- 44:27regard so. Just know he's probably doing
- 44:30it. He's probably doing it clean.
- 44:32OK, so you know, clap it up for Mookie Betts.
- 44:37Opta stats also going going with another nugget here.
- 44:42Opta Stats tweeted Since RBI became official, only two Major
- 44:46League base, only two Major League players have had a
- 44:48four-game span with 9 plus hits. Nine RBI, six walks, four home
- 44:54runs and a 600 plus batting average.
- 44:56One is Mookie Betts. And of course, this was entering
- 44:59Sunday Night Baseball, so this was prior to.
- 45:02Sunday's game, The other Babe Ruth.
- 45:09So when I say he's playing at an elite clip, that's not
- 45:12hyperbole. That's not like we're not.
- 45:15I'm not blowing that out of proportion.
- 45:16He's legitimately. I know the Dodgers are.
- 45:20What now? Did they play a four-game series
- 45:25against the Cardinals? three-game?
- 45:26Either way, like 5-6 games in. I know it's early.
- 45:32There's not a hotter hitter on the planet right now than Mookie
- 45:35Betts and just player in general.
- 45:37I think I saw. Let me let me pull this up.
- 45:41I don't know. I don't know how accurate it is
- 45:44at this point, but I believe, let me see here.
- 45:51Yes, at Yankee World on Twitter, he says he tweeted Mookie Betts
- 45:56is leading the league in every hitting SAT imaginable while
- 45:58also being first in defensive run saves as a shortstop.
- 46:04So he tweeted this out 12 hours ago.
- 46:06So prior to Sunday Night Baseball he had three defensive
- 46:11runs saved as a shortstop. And as as I mentioned, it's just
- 46:16lighting the world on fire from the plate at the dish
- 46:20offensively. So it's it's incredible to see
- 46:28him starting off this year the way he is with the the pressures
- 46:35I think that are inherent with this 2024 Dodgers team coming
- 46:40into the season. And he not to mention he's got
- 46:43the sound bite of saying, you know, every team that I'm
- 46:46paraphrasing, but basically saying like it's going to be
- 46:48every, every team that plays us. World Series.
- 46:51Whenever they they they take on the Dodgers.
- 46:53And look, man, he's. He's not wrong.
- 46:57I'm not going to go out and say they're going to win 140 games.
- 46:59But like, this is, the reality is this is on paper at least,
- 47:04this is the team to beat and we all know that.
- 47:07It doesn't necessarily ever really pan out the way it should
- 47:11on that paper says it should because baseball doesn't work
- 47:16that way. And I said it myself.
- 47:18You're a fool to think that this Dodger team is just going to
- 47:20cakewalk. To the World Series.
- 47:23I don't. That's just not how baseball
- 47:24works. It it's it's never that easy.
- 47:28But again on paper in the early going here with star power.
- 47:35The Dodgers have the target on their back and so for him to
- 47:39come out and kind of you know walk walk the walk a little bit
- 47:43I I got to I got to show love to my man mooks man he's he's he's
- 47:47doing the thing and A and a position change should not be
- 47:52should not be laughed at should not you shouldn't be turning
- 47:54your nose up at that because that's that's a huge deal and I
- 47:58understand he came up as an infielder in in the minor
- 48:00leagues I get that and. And the Red Sox system, I
- 48:03understand that. But.
- 48:07Doing your thing out, in, out, in the outfield, for as long as
- 48:10he's, as long as he has been over the last number of years to
- 48:14then transition back, you may as well be starting from scratch.
- 48:19I mean, yeah, you, like I said, you come up in the system as a
- 48:22minor leaguer or as a as an infielder.
- 48:25But like you, you lose that if you're not, if you're not taking
- 48:28those reps every day. That you get a little rusty in
- 48:32that regard. So for him to have the the
- 48:34spring that he did in in terms of shaking that rust off and to
- 48:37be able to to catapult into this start that's that's that's
- 48:43awesome that I'm, I'm a big fan of that and again as somebody
- 48:47who chose Mookie Betts as a National League MVP, I'm pretty
- 48:50thrilled about that so props to props to Mookie and.
- 48:57One other guy that I don't even I I don't even think I've
- 49:00mentioned Tyler O'Neill kind of under the radar.
- 49:05I mean I knew about it obviously as as a socks guy and I I saw
- 49:09the the the historical graphic come up indicating the news.
- 49:16But for those who don't know, Tyler O'Neill set the opening
- 49:21day home run. Record with five.
- 49:25So he's homered in five straight opening days.
- 49:29He had a solo Homer in, I believe it was like the eighth.
- 49:34Yeah, top of the eighth has become the first AL and L player
- 49:37to go deep in five straight opening days.
- 49:40Per the Elias Sports Bureau, O'Neill entered the day tied
- 49:44with Todd Hundley and a pair of Hall of Farmers Gary Carter,
- 49:48Yogi Berra. With four.
- 49:50So like, I mean all things considered it's not like a huge
- 49:56deal. But like at at the end of the
- 49:59day, it's just a home. It's just a it's a solo shot.
- 50:01But like it's, I mean that that's again one of those cool
- 50:04storylines from either a player or a team that you can come away
- 50:09from opening, opening weekend and go you know, like that's
- 50:13pretty cool. Like we we've been hearing about
- 50:15the and I know I just got done talking about the Dodgers for
- 50:17however long. But like we've been hearing
- 50:20about the Dodgers all offseason and then you hear about the
- 50:23whole gambling scandal and it's like, OK, I want to I want to
- 50:26hear some new things. I want to hear some some maybe
- 50:29under the radar storylines. You know the Pirates going four
- 50:33and O. For example, Tyler O'Neill set
- 50:35in the opening day home run record.
- 50:36Stuff like that is what we love to see and not to.
- 50:41Again, there's so I need to I really you need to hear me.
- 50:44I need to reiterate this. There was so much that happened
- 50:47this weekend and I know as we kind of wrap it up here that I
- 50:52I'm not going to be able to get to it.
- 50:53I I didn't get to it all, but not to not to.
- 50:59Go left unmentioned. What's what's his name?
- 51:05Martini. I think it is for the Reds.
- 51:08Had a had a couple bops on opening day so and I mentioned
- 51:14Tatis and TA Oscar they've they've had some some fireworks
- 51:19to start the season among other names.
- 51:23It's just it's cool to see, man. It's cool to see some names like
- 51:29like a Tyler. O'Neill or a martini?
- 51:32Those are the kind of storylines that I that that should be of
- 51:35interest. To the.
- 51:38The casual and and even die hard baseball fan who are looking for
- 51:42something outside of LA or or what have you.
- 51:45So honestly, I think that's all I really had.
- 51:51Again, I know there was a lot and I I do apologize if I didn't
- 51:56get to everything, but I feel like we covered a a good bit.
- 52:00Let me just run through here see if there's anything I missed.
- 52:05Rangers get there that would. A little side note.
- 52:09That was funny. You had Jordan.
- 52:12Montgomery, right? Was is he, was he at the park at
- 52:16that point or were they still trying to get him there or is he
- 52:18elsewhere? Did I see correctly that he he
- 52:23was with the D backs at home when they got there?
- 52:29How did that work they were playing?
- 52:33Were they playing the Rangers? I can't honestly can't even
- 52:36remember what that match up was. But anyway, it was like, oh that
- 52:41no, no, no, they weren't playing this.
- 52:42So it was It was Jordan Montgomery, obviously reigning
- 52:48World Series champion, watching the Diamondbacks, his new team,
- 52:52get their national. League.
- 52:55Champion rings, that's that's just a little baseball humor
- 53:00that that's a lot of stuff like that kind of flies under the
- 53:03radar. But.
- 53:05You know that that's that's a that's worth a good chuckle I'm
- 53:11trying to think I was there anything anything else that I
- 53:15missed. I think I mean we covered the
- 53:18reefs Mets little incident talked some some big names
- 53:25mentioned the I think I mentioned the Reds had a walk
- 53:27off today to kind of cap their weekend series against the
- 53:31Nationals. Mention Mookie I yeah, I think I
- 53:39I covered most of the big storylines there.
- 53:41There was a lot to take away and look, a lot of teams, a lot of
- 53:46players laying good foundations. I think for the rest of the way.
- 53:50I know it's early, but we're seeing a lot of exciting stuff.
- 53:54You're seeing some of these storylines.
- 53:56Be. Be laid out to be they're
- 54:02they're developing. I think you're gonna see maybe
- 54:05some I I mentioned it earlier some rivalries I don't know
- 54:10what's to come of of those based on some of these bench clearing
- 54:14incidents but you're also you're getting some good sound.
- 54:18Bites out there. I mean you.
- 54:20You all. You're all on.
- 54:21Social media you see these, these quote.
- 54:23Graphics flying around and and these postgame locker room
- 54:28videos flying around there. I think we're gearing up for a
- 54:31good, another good season of baseball, man.
- 54:34Like I look as a Sox guy. You know how I feel.
- 54:39I've made it clear on here, how I feel about this season, what
- 54:42I'm really expecting, what I'm hoping for this season.
- 54:45But I couldn't help Opening day, man.
- 54:48I'm like it. It never fails.
- 54:51It never fails. You get so down all off, like if
- 54:56you're a team, if you're a fan of a team that's out of the
- 54:59hunt, like typically on Opening Day, you're just like, we have
- 55:03nothing to really pull for here this year.
- 55:07Somehow Opening Day never fails to to infuse that little sense
- 55:13of hope where you're like, this could be the year, this could be
- 55:18the year we finally turned things around.
- 55:20And even if you get. Swept opening day is a beautiful
- 55:24day. And so opening day, man, I was,
- 55:27I was loving it. I was, I was loving engagement
- 55:30with a lot of you all talking about just what was happening to
- 55:35to start the season to to get these games underway.
- 55:39I even implemented my own If some of you, if, if you follow
- 55:43me on Twitter, which if you don't hit me up on Twitter with
- 55:47a follow, I would greatly appreciate it.
- 55:49I'm like sort of entertaining. I'm not like I'm not all that
- 55:54entertaining, but you know I like, I like having some folks
- 55:57to to talk to and I'll hit you back with a follow if you hit me
- 56:00up. But I I mentioned I put out a
- 56:03tweet opening day. I said I think I've decided to
- 56:07implement a new tradition and credits to some of you guys.
- 56:10I don't have specific names but I've I've seen a couple baseball
- 56:14fans around social media do this as well.
- 56:17That's kind of where I got the idea from.
- 56:19But I'm gonna, I'm gonna use opening day as an excuse every
- 56:24year now to get a new hat. And so I I I started that
- 56:28tradition this year got a new hat.
- 56:30It should be in on Monday. So I'm excited about that shout
- 56:35out 47 brand. You all know how to make a
- 56:37quality product. No, I'm not.
- 56:39I'm not getting paid to say that.
- 56:41But in a world where we're complaining about Nike and
- 56:43Fanatics and Major League Baseball and the product that
- 56:45they're putting out on the field in terms of these uniforms, 47
- 56:49brand makes a quality hat. So just wanted to give some love
- 56:52to them. But yeah man it's it was a fun
- 56:56weekend. There was a lot of baseball to
- 56:58watch. You know I I tuned in for a lot
- 57:03of games that I wasn't even really a fan of.
- 57:06Like I I like I mentioned I really wanted to watch the OS to
- 57:09get the to get the season started again as they had the
- 57:13first game on on Thursday caught some of their games throughout
- 57:16the weekend. I caught the brace Phillies
- 57:21series this weekend. Just a lot of exciting baseball
- 57:25right out of the gate and again I already mentioned it but some
- 57:28of these teams we we had exciting baseball to watch and
- 57:33we had some new and exciting teams to maybe shed some light
- 57:38on. So that's that's always good for
- 57:40baseball. But All in all a a great opening
- 57:46weekend and I'm glad, glad to have been able to take in as
- 57:50much baseball as I did. I'm sure you all did as well.
- 57:54But don't. Don't.
- 57:58Give up on the rest of the league.
- 58:00Like, I know it's you get, you get swept up in in the
- 58:03excitement of all of Major League Baseball getting the
- 58:06season started and then you kind of settle into your favorite
- 58:10team's rhythm. I understand that.
- 58:13And I I'm not going to fault you for that.
- 58:15I'm I'm all about that. I I think.
- 58:17It's good to be a die hard. Fan I don't.
- 58:19I'm not sitting here saying you should be like a Fairweather fan
- 58:21of of some other teams or like a little bandwagon action, but we
- 58:26stayed on here all the time. Don't give up on the rest of the
- 58:29league as the season gets underway.
- 58:32Stay locked in if you got MLBTV. Stay locked in to some of these
- 58:35teams, some of these players that are are going to be
- 58:38exciting to watch and exciting to follow throughout the season.
- 58:42Because if you don't. You're going to admit like it.
- 58:45It's one thing to catch up on highlights or or to listen to us
- 58:48for like a rundown of what happened and and I know seasons
- 58:51long there's a lot to to keep up with.
- 58:53But it's a completely different thing when you're when you're
- 58:57following along. You pick out a couple players
- 58:59and you track, track them throughout the year and you tune
- 59:01into their games and you see these things happen in real time
- 59:05as they happen and you can be like, man, I was, I I was
- 59:07watching that. I saw that.
- 59:09I I saw that No hitter. I saw that milestone home run
- 59:14because I was tuned in and I was paying attention to this, the
- 59:18entire sport of baseball as a whole, because I'm a baseball
- 59:20fan. I would encourage you to do that
- 59:23this year if you haven't before. It's it's it's a fun experience
- 59:27and if you're like I said, if you if you're a fan of a team
- 59:29that doesn't have much hope for 2024, I'm not saying to jump
- 59:32ship somewhere else, but just have something you know in your
- 59:36back. Pocket that you can go.
- 59:38Hey, the fill in the blank team is on.
- 59:41Let me check them out, see what's going on there.
- 59:43It's just it's a good way to keep you.
- 59:46It's a helpful way to keep you sane over the course of 162.
- 59:50So I'll leave you with that. I appreciate you all listening
- 59:53to me talk to myself for an hour.
- 59:56Nate, I believe, should maybe. I think he said he might have
- 1:00:02one more episode in them before. The honeymoon kicks off so I
- 1:00:08know he's got he, he and Paige have have that to look forward
- 1:00:11to but at. Some point we'll we'll get Nate
- 1:00:17back. I'm going to I'm going to mix
- 1:00:19Ryan in Ryan Ripken for those of you who are unfamiliar, he'll
- 1:00:23be, he'll be back. He'll be a a recurring guest
- 1:00:26throughout the season especially in this early going as Nate will
- 1:00:30most likely be Mia for a little bit.
- 1:00:33So again, my best wishes to to Nate and Paige.
- 1:00:37Happy for you guys. Love you guys.
- 1:00:40But again, thank you all for listening to me.
- 1:00:42Talk to myself for over an hour. A lot of good baseball this
- 1:00:46weekend and I wish you and your team minus like the Yankee fans
- 1:00:51out there and like some others, the best of luck in 2024.
- 1:00:56I wish you nothing but the best. I hope.
- 1:00:58I hope the. Excitement continues.
- 1:01:02I hope the surprises continue to roll in for your team.
- 1:01:05Good surprises of course, and I just hope that you continue to
- 1:01:09fall in love with this great game.
- 1:01:11So with. That said, my friends, I love
- 1:01:16you all and as always, looking forward to talking more baseball
- 1:01:18with. You guys soon?
- 1:01:20Until next time, stay. Filthy.
