- 0:02Speaker 1: Cal Poly is in session. Students swarm through campus and
- 0:05Speaker 1: file in and out of classes. You're thinking about the
- 0:07Speaker 1: chapter reading they have tonight, their next class, their new dorm,
- 0:10Speaker 1: their senior project, how to get to the gym, what's
- 0:12Speaker 1: for dinner tonight? Where's in yours bathroom? Kate and I
- 0:15Speaker 1: know things can get a bit chaotic as a student
- 0:17Speaker 1: navigating the ins and outs of college life.
- 0:19Speaker 2: At cal Poly. We focus on learning by doing, but
- 0:22Speaker 2: sometimes you don't know what to do well. Emma and
- 0:25Speaker 2: I are here to answer your who, what, when, where, why,
- 0:28Speaker 2: and how's here? On CP one oh one Learned by Listening,
- 0:31Speaker 2: presented by KCPR ninety one point three.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Hi Mustang, I'm Emma Hughes, a third year English student, and.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I'm Kate Lopenski, a third year journalism student here at
- 0:40Speaker 2: cal Poly, and we're here to share our tell all
- 0:42Speaker 2: guide on how to survive and thrive at cal Poly
- 0:45Speaker 2: San Luis Obispo. So grab a notebook you may want
- 0:48Speaker 2: to write this down. Welcome to CP one oh one.
- 0:53Speaker 2: How to Celebrate Valentine's Day. This romance Field Day is
- 0:57Speaker 2: fast approaching, so we obviously need to fill you in
- 1:00Speaker 2: on all the fun things you can do on the fourteenth.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Whether you're spending the day with a significant other or
- 1:05Speaker 1: a group of friends, or even alone, there's plenty you
- 1:07Speaker 1: can do to embrace the day.
- 1:09Speaker 2: And then I will walk you through the dating scene
- 1:11Speaker 2: here and slow. What you can do with the partner,
- 1:13Speaker 2: what you can do with the group, what gifts you
- 1:15Speaker 2: can give, and maybe provide a story or two from
- 1:17Speaker 2: our own experiences.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Okay, So, Kate, I thought it would be pretty fun
- 1:23Speaker 1: to start this episode off with going over the history
- 1:26Speaker 1: of Valentine's Day. Do you know any of the history?
- 1:30Speaker 2: I don't, but you're gonna have to make this exciting
- 1:32Speaker 2: because I do have history class starting at two today.
- 1:36Speaker 2: So if you're gonna tell me some history, it better
- 1:39Speaker 2: be like legit.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I'll keep it interesting, I'll keep it fun, amazing.
- 1:43Speaker 1: So we all know a little bit about the story
- 1:46Speaker 1: of Saint Valentine, who he was a priest, imprisoned, fell
- 1:51Speaker 1: in love, and at this time that's hot. Yeah, that's hot.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah except you got executed.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, never mind, So it has its limits. Okay, yep.
- 2:00Speaker 1: But before Saint Valentine was a thing, there was this
- 2:04Speaker 1: fun little festival called lupercalia a festival, a festival, and
- 2:11Speaker 1: this was all about celebrating fertility, sex life, you know,
- 2:16Speaker 1: all the fun things a girly should celebrate on Valentine's Day.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Why weren't we alive during the percalia? Turned up?
- 2:23Speaker 1: The one little thing that might make this story a
- 2:27Speaker 1: little less appealing is the sacrifice of a goat. Oh yeah,
- 2:33Speaker 1: so they would sacrifice a goat and then cut its
- 2:37Speaker 1: hide into strips and dip it in blood and slap
- 2:39Speaker 1: the women with it.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Oh like actually like slap yeah with blood. Yeah.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So it was like a fun, little like decoration for
- 2:49Speaker 1: the day, and it was supposed to bring fertility and be.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Like fun, cute and quirky. I guess so is that
- 2:57Speaker 2: where like the pink and red colors?
- 2:59Speaker 1: You know, maybe, yeah, some things definitely stuck around, but
- 3:02Speaker 1: you know what, Okay, sacrifice, it's just like witchy girl activities.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Like it has to happen, you know.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So, now that we've gone over a little bit of
- 3:13Speaker 1: the history of Valentine's Day, I just thought would be
- 3:16Speaker 1: a fun, little cute thing.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I mean, get into the episode. Yeah, and we're just
- 3:22Speaker 2: gonna complain about like how single we are. Update Kate
- 3:26Speaker 2: and I are actually very much single, so single. But
- 3:29Speaker 2: you know what, coaches don't play no exactly. We do
- 3:32Speaker 2: this for you for our listeners, the best advice, and
- 3:35Speaker 2: we're just so selfless and so giving that you're going
- 3:38Speaker 2: to give you everything that you need for this Valentine's Day.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, okay, So the big question is the one
- 3:43Speaker 2: that we're still asking ourselves, is where do you find Valentine? Yes,
- 3:49Speaker 2: so I have to be honest.
- 3:51Speaker 1: As an English major here at cal Poly, everyone in
- 3:54Speaker 1: my classes, they're primarily female, and unfortunately I'm straight and
- 3:59Speaker 1: so my options are very limited. But I do partake
- 4:05Speaker 1: in a dating app here or there, so.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Oh, me too, don't be ashamed.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean yeah, it's the nature of college life,
- 4:13Speaker 1: and the dating apps here definitely vary. I have I
- 4:18Speaker 1: currently have Tinder and Hinge.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Me too, but like I don't use Tender. Tender is
- 4:23Speaker 2: more of a game.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I just like to like peruse the people, but the
- 4:27Speaker 1: second someone messages me, I'm like, mmm, no, thank you.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Tinder is like having a huge menu like at
- 4:33Speaker 2: the cheesecake factory. Like it's just so intimidating because there's
- 4:37Speaker 2: so many people. Right, It's all pretty like surface level
- 4:40Speaker 2: as well. Yeah, yeah, whereas Hinge that's my that's my thing. See,
- 4:44Speaker 2: Hinge actually has prompts where it's like, what are you
- 4:48Speaker 2: up to?
- 4:48Speaker 1: What's your favorite thing? Like two truth and a lie,
- 4:51Speaker 1: so you get to know people a little bit more.
- 4:53Speaker 1: On Hinge, it just feels more of an app dedicated
- 4:56Speaker 1: towards longevity versus Tinder, which I I would definitely say
- 5:01Speaker 1: is a lot more hookup culture and just like finding
- 5:04Speaker 1: a booty call for the night, which no shame, but
- 5:07Speaker 1: you do you, Yeah, like maybe that's what you want
- 5:09Speaker 1: on Valentine's Day, get frisky.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Honestly, there's an idea. Yeah, And then I know a
- 5:13Speaker 2: few people that also use bumble. Yeah I've never used
- 5:16Speaker 2: it myself, but I feel like I've heard that, Like
- 5:18Speaker 2: the woman has to initiate first, yes, conversation, so that's
- 5:22Speaker 2: pretty cool.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it has to be mutual match. And
- 5:26Speaker 1: then once you've matched, the woman has I think like
- 5:31Speaker 1: twenty four hours to send a message and initiate that.
- 5:34Speaker 1: So it's very much like you have to decide if
- 5:37Speaker 1: this is something you like, someone you want to talk to,
- 5:39Speaker 1: someone you want to figure things out with. I haven't
- 5:42Speaker 1: tried Bumble, but definitely a good option.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And I mean, like, all I can say about dating
- 5:48Speaker 2: apps is like, don't be ashamed. It doesn't hurt to try.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Like this is how we're meeting each other in this
- 5:53Speaker 2: day and age, and it's not bad if you feel
- 5:56Speaker 2: like you have to download one in order to get
- 5:58Speaker 2: yourself out there. I think it's a great step.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Also, just for like working on communicating with someone who,
- 6:05Speaker 1: like you, potentially have a romantic interest in like, it
- 6:08Speaker 1: definitely helps to you know, figure out what you like
- 6:11Speaker 1: to talk about. Do you want to talk about yourself?
- 6:13Speaker 1: Do you have questions that you want to ask your partner?
- 6:16Speaker 1: Just kind of navigating that scene. It can sometimes be
- 6:19Speaker 1: easier to do it online versus in person.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Exactly, but if in person is more of your jam,
- 6:26Speaker 2: there's so many different places that you can meet someone, Like,
- 6:29Speaker 2: for example, class, I mean, you could always just turn
- 6:31Speaker 2: over to the person next to you if they're looking
- 6:33Speaker 2: kind of cute, ask for help on the homework. And
- 6:37Speaker 2: it's always good to have an in class crush.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I make sure to like designate a person
- 6:42Speaker 1: in each of my classes because I'm like, I gotta
- 6:44Speaker 1: keep things interesting. I need to show up have someone
- 6:46Speaker 1: who are like, ooh hello.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah, like this quarter is so boring because I don't
- 6:50Speaker 2: have one. Oh it's so sad. I see, I just
- 6:53Speaker 2: pick anyone.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I'm like, you are the person I'm trying to I
- 6:56Speaker 1: have no actual attachment to them. Yeah, I'm like, I'm
- 6:59Speaker 1: showing up for you because I can't be shown up
- 7:01Speaker 1: for class.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It's just not worth it. Okay. And then for all
- 7:05Speaker 2: of our freshmen out there, and the dorms are great
- 7:08Speaker 2: or transfer student second years living in PCV or Sarah
- 7:11Speaker 2: even some apartments, Yeah, exactly Mustang Village. I know.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Mustang Village definitely offers like a dorm like feel, and
- 7:18Speaker 1: there's people just milling about all the time.
- 7:21Speaker 2: It's that like proximity thing. Yeah, just there so you
- 7:24Speaker 2: run into them all the time. Yeah, it's just convenient. Again,
- 7:27Speaker 2: why do I not live by any like people? What?
- 7:31Speaker 1: See, my group of friends live in Mustang Village, So
- 7:34Speaker 1: I'm there on the weekends and I know all their
- 7:37Speaker 1: neighbors and I'm like, hey.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Like, how you doing? Like I see all the time.
- 7:43Speaker 2: What's the vibe?
- 7:44Speaker 1: So just having that proximity of like people there one
- 7:48Speaker 1: thing I would maybe caution don't get too entangled in
- 7:52Speaker 1: like dormzest or like anything like that, because I remember
- 7:56Speaker 1: my freshman days when everyone was dating everyone within the
- 8:00Speaker 1: week and then things changed and hearts were broken and
- 8:04Speaker 1: it can get pretty messy. So make sure you know
- 8:06Speaker 1: what you're getting yourself into.
- 8:08Speaker 2: But if handled well, it can turn out absolutely amazing. Okay.
- 8:11Speaker 2: And then in the other place's parties, yes, this can
- 8:14Speaker 2: be a little bit difficult because it allowed music and
- 8:16Speaker 2: there's just so much chaos and like it can be
- 8:19Speaker 2: over stimulating sometime, but you know, this is one of
- 8:22Speaker 2: those scenes where you just have to be ford. If
- 8:24Speaker 2: you see someone that catches your eye, you have to
- 8:26Speaker 2: walk up to them.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It's also almost less pressure in a way because everyone's
- 8:31Speaker 1: there to party, everyone's there to have a good time.
- 8:33Speaker 1: So it's like you would just feeling the moment, like
- 8:36Speaker 1: you always have that excuse to back out and be like,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you know what, like I just thought you were a
- 8:40Speaker 1: really cool person, Like this is the space to be
- 8:44Speaker 1: social and ask those kind of questions.
- 8:46Speaker 2: So exactly, I like what you're saying about how yeah,
- 8:50Speaker 2: it's expected, so it's not as scary, right, yeah, So
- 8:53Speaker 2: keep that in mind. And then my last one is
- 8:56Speaker 2: mutual friends. Oh I've been like demanding all of my
- 8:58Speaker 2: friends set me up. Please. Yeah, no one yet they
- 9:03Speaker 2: I'm like, guys, put in the work, please do it
- 9:06Speaker 2: for me. Don't you want to see me happy? Yeah?
- 9:10Speaker 2: I mean honestly, I'm vibein. I'm chill right now. But
- 9:14Speaker 2: this is great because then you have someone who is vetted. Yes, yeah,
- 9:18Speaker 2: you have like the friends, a sponsor, Yeah, a little
- 9:21Speaker 2: sponsor going in and like, I know my friends. I
- 9:23Speaker 2: trust my friends and so and your friends know you,
- 9:26Speaker 2: so they know what you're looking for. So if this
- 9:28Speaker 2: is an option, this is something to definitely look into. Yes,
- 9:32Speaker 2: definitely one to consider. Okay, so before we get into
- 9:36Speaker 2: talking about fun things that you can do on Valentine's Day,
- 9:39Speaker 2: I wanted to quickly talk a little bit about mmg's
- 9:43Speaker 2: newest publication, this magazine in the Peak, which is so exciting.
- 9:48Speaker 2: There's actually some really fun like ideas that like you
- 9:50Speaker 2: could apply towards Valentine's Day. Like, for example, there's a
- 9:53Speaker 2: page where it talks about different meals from Truder Joe's
- 9:56Speaker 2: that you can make.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yes, it gives you the recipe, the how to and
- 10:00Speaker 1: like Trader Joe's is already an amazing place to go
- 10:03Speaker 1: to for Valentine's activities, so definitely want to check out
- 10:07Speaker 1: the Peak for that. There's also I think a little
- 10:11Speaker 1: sound quiz in there. Yeah, there's what's your sound like?
- 10:14Speaker 1: What type of music do you like? Yeah, and that's
- 10:16Speaker 1: a good thing to figure out for Valentine's Day because
- 10:18Speaker 1: you know, maybe you want to party, maybe you want
- 10:20Speaker 1: to blossom tunes. So definitely go check out the Peak.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Okay, So again, I'm so single, so I feel like
- 10:28Speaker 2: sometimes I like don't have the ability to talk on this,
- 10:31Speaker 2: but I do have a roommate who is so not single.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Her and her boyfriend have been together for about three
- 10:36Speaker 2: years now. They're going on their third Valentine's Day together
- 10:39Speaker 2: and they met in the dorms so that it can
- 10:41Speaker 2: work out. It can work. They're adorable, they're great together.
- 10:45Speaker 2: They're also English majors, so they're near and dear to
- 10:48Speaker 2: my heart. Yeah, exactly. And so this Valentine's Day they're
- 10:52Speaker 2: having a sushi picnic, which is so easy and so
- 10:54Speaker 2: simple and so cute. Yeah, like and just one of
- 10:58Speaker 2: the fun activities to do, just spending some quality time
- 11:02Speaker 2: with your partner. You know, eating good food that you like,
- 11:05Speaker 2: go to a fun little place. Do you know where
- 11:07Speaker 2: they're going for the picnic? Not exactly sure yet. I
- 11:10Speaker 2: just know that they love sushi, Like their thing to
- 11:13Speaker 2: do together is go and get sushi.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Well, maybe they'll be by the beach and do like
- 11:17Speaker 1: a full fishy night for Valentine's Day. So, although Kate
- 11:21Speaker 1: and I are very much single, we have done our
- 11:25Speaker 1: research on some fun activities that you can do around
- 11:27Speaker 1: Slow for your Valentine's Day. So obviously there's like restaurants
- 11:32Speaker 1: that you can go to. There's plenty to check out
- 11:35Speaker 1: around Slow. You have some that are maybe like a
- 11:38Speaker 1: little more upscale, some that are fun, but anywhere you go. Definitely,
- 11:43Speaker 1: just having a romantic evening with a partner at a
- 11:45Speaker 1: restaurant is always a classic go to for Valentine's Day.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like if you're gonna go romantic, you
- 11:52Speaker 2: do Giuseppi's. But I feel like you have to book
- 11:54Speaker 2: that like a month out, yeah, because that place is
- 11:56Speaker 2: gonna be popping on Valentine's Day.
- 12:00Speaker 1: But there's some other fun activities happening around Slow. You
- 12:04Speaker 1: can always look for a concert or a comedy show.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I know that Slow Brew is having a fun little
- 12:11Speaker 1: concert the night before Valentine's Day, I think, or maybe
- 12:15Speaker 1: the night after, but definitely just go check out what's happening.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I also know Asi here for cal Poly is doing
- 12:23Speaker 1: a make a bouquet event the day before, so that
- 12:27Speaker 1: also touches on like a good gift for someone potentially,
- 12:31Speaker 1: So definitely just like peruse some of the things that
- 12:34Speaker 1: are happening.
- 12:35Speaker 2: There are so many things you can do, and it
- 12:38Speaker 2: doesn't have to be that expensive. I mean, what matters
- 12:40Speaker 2: most is just spending time with a person. And like
- 12:44Speaker 2: I feel like thought is the number one thing that
- 12:46Speaker 2: should go into these little celebrations and activities. You just
- 12:50Speaker 2: want to make sure that you're thinking about your partner,
- 12:52Speaker 2: your friends, or yourself.
- 12:54Speaker 1: So kay, I'm curious now that we've touched on some
- 12:57Speaker 1: of the fun things you can do, what would you do?
- 13:00Speaker 1: What would be your ideal date for Valentine's Day?
- 13:03Speaker 2: The way that I think about this all the time
- 13:05Speaker 2: because I'm a Pisces, I like today dream Yes, me too, Yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 2: me too, Yeah I know, I know. So the dream
- 13:13Speaker 2: absolute dream would to like be to go to a
- 13:15Speaker 2: concert because I love concerts, or even a rave. I
- 13:18Speaker 2: don't know, just like someone with a live music, something crazy,
- 13:20Speaker 2: something fun, a little I wish, if only, but I
- 13:27Speaker 2: would do that. And then Sidecar and Downtown Slow is
- 13:31Speaker 2: such a fun play, such a great atmosphere. And I'm
- 13:35Speaker 2: turning twenty one in March, so yeah, not before Valentine's Day.
- 13:40Speaker 2: But Sidecar makes really really good mocktails, so it's like
- 13:43Speaker 2: a little practice for down the road. You literally tell
- 13:46Speaker 2: the mixologist what you like in a drink and they'll
- 13:48Speaker 2: make it for you. Oh, perfect, super fun. Yeah, love that.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I'll have to check that out. So yeah, music and
- 13:53Speaker 2: drinks with the one you love sounds like a hoot
- 13:56Speaker 2: and a half. Yes, it really does. Okay, yeah, what
- 13:59Speaker 2: about you? I want to know?
- 14:00Speaker 1: Okay, For Valentine's Day, I think it would be fun
- 14:04Speaker 1: to go to like a classic like date idea and
- 14:08Speaker 1: just do a movie, like just have a fun little
- 14:10Speaker 1: movie night, whether that be going to a movie theater,
- 14:13Speaker 1: staying at home, or even going to like the drive
- 14:15Speaker 1: in here. I think saw is so lucky to have
- 14:19Speaker 1: the Sunset drive in movie theater, and I really don't
- 14:21Speaker 1: take advantage of it enough me either, But like, I
- 14:24Speaker 1: feel like that would be such a fun date idea,
- 14:27Speaker 1: especially for Valentine's Day, like cuddle up in a car
- 14:31Speaker 1: with your significant other, watch a movie and just spend
- 14:34Speaker 1: some time together. You know, bring some good snacks, maybe
- 14:38Speaker 1: go to dinner before or after, and just hang out
- 14:40Speaker 1: and watch a good film.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that sounds like so much fun. Yeah, and that's
- 14:44Speaker 2: something anyone can do for their Valentine's Day exactly. In
- 14:48Speaker 2: addition to celebrations, people also like to get each other gifts.
- 14:51Speaker 2: So am, I was wondering if you have any gifts
- 14:54Speaker 2: in mind or places they know that people can get
- 14:57Speaker 2: their gifts from.
- 14:58Speaker 1: For me specific, I'm a big advocate for a homemade gift,
- 15:03Speaker 1: and I especially.
- 15:05Speaker 2: For this holiday.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Valentine's Day is all full of love and like it's about,
- 15:11Speaker 1: you know, showing your love, and so I feel like
- 15:13Speaker 1: making something for your significant other, whether that be like
- 15:17Speaker 1: making them a special treat like cookies or a cake,
- 15:20Speaker 1: or maybe making them a homemade Valentine's card, or even
- 15:24Speaker 1: like doing a fun little making them a playlist or something.
- 15:27Speaker 1: You know, like back in the old day, like I.
- 15:28Speaker 2: May do a mix tape. You can still do that today.
- 15:35Speaker 1: You can still like have fun with it and just Honestly,
- 15:38Speaker 1: for me, anything homemade coming from the heart, you know,
- 15:41Speaker 1: anything that took time and effort is really what you know,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I would love.
- 15:46Speaker 2: To see for Valentine's Day totally, Yeah you can't, Okay.
- 15:50Speaker 2: So something so easy and so nice is just getting
- 15:53Speaker 2: someone a bouquet of flowers, And Trader Joe's is actually
- 15:57Speaker 2: a great spot to do this because the bouquets are
- 15:59Speaker 2: so able. You can even get some for under five dollars.
- 16:02Speaker 2: They're so pretty too, like you can definitely get some
- 16:05Speaker 2: colorful ones, definitely, and who doesn't want flowers? I mean
- 16:08Speaker 2: it's just like a nice, thoughtful gift exactly. And also
- 16:10Speaker 2: I love to eat, so like away to the Heart
- 16:12Speaker 2: is through food. I'm sure that like Slow Doco will
- 16:16Speaker 2: be doing something for Valentine's Day, Like they'll probably have
- 16:19Speaker 2: some like decorated donuts, so that's always a fun option.
- 16:22Speaker 2: And then another thing I was thinking about is like
- 16:24Speaker 2: kind of similar to like a Valentine's car, but more
- 16:26Speaker 2: of like a heartfelt like love letter. I think that
- 16:29Speaker 2: would be really nice or like a scrap book.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah, or you know, go with a classic and write
- 16:33Speaker 1: someone a poem. Yeah, make it like really really fun
- 16:36Speaker 1: and festive and do a little love.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yeah, write a sonnet. Don't make it too cheesy though, No,
- 16:42Speaker 2: get cheesy, become Shakespeare. Okay, that would give me the
- 16:45Speaker 2: ick though. Yeah, but like I think.
- 16:46Speaker 1: It'd be funny. You you decide on your cheese level
- 16:50Speaker 1: for this. But so those were some of our ideas
- 16:53Speaker 1: for like you and a significant other, but for those
- 16:57Speaker 1: who are single like am I, or those who would
- 17:01Speaker 1: rather keep repeating it's like or single or remember that
- 17:06Speaker 1: time we told you we were single.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yeah, like it's still We're still single. Yeah, nothing has
- 17:11Speaker 2: happened in the past, but like half hour No.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Anyways, if you are single or you would rather spend
- 17:18Speaker 1: the holidays with your friends, there's still plenty out there for.
- 17:21Speaker 2: You to do. Mm hmm so much so. Yeah. One
- 17:25Speaker 2: of the ideas that you brought up was like a
- 17:26Speaker 2: little singles party.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, so like every single person that you know
- 17:33Speaker 1: just gets together to mingle and just like all the
- 17:37Speaker 1: singles in one room.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Maybe you'll find someone. Should we set that up? I
- 17:41Speaker 2: feel like we should.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I'm down and I'm saying, like anyone that you know,
- 17:46Speaker 1: like invite everyone exactly, because why not. But another idea
- 17:53Speaker 1: is like a first date party where everyone in attendance
- 17:57Speaker 1: has to bring someone as like their first date. And
- 18:01Speaker 1: so I've talked about doing this with my friends because
- 18:03Speaker 1: we're all on the dating apps, so like just going
- 18:06Speaker 1: on like Hinge, Tinder, just texting someone and be like, hey,
- 18:10Speaker 1: like I'm having a party tonight. It's like a singles party.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Do you want to come? Do you want to like
- 18:14Speaker 1: attend with me? And I think that could be fun because,
- 18:17Speaker 1: like again, party environment has like a little bit less pressure,
- 18:21Speaker 1: especially if you let them know, like we're having a
- 18:25Speaker 1: like singles party where it's like everyone there is like
- 18:29Speaker 1: on a first date, but you still get to mingle
- 18:31Speaker 1: and you get to be around other people.
- 18:33Speaker 2: So that's always a fun option. And then a lot
- 18:36Speaker 2: of the activities that we talked about for couples before
- 18:39Speaker 2: aren't necessarily for couples, and you can do these with
- 18:41Speaker 2: your friends too. Like last Valentine's Day, my roommate and
- 18:45Speaker 2: I went to the theater and saw the most recent
- 18:48Speaker 2: magic mic and it was just filled. The theater was
- 18:51Speaker 2: filled to the brim with girlies and everyone was just
- 18:53Speaker 2: screaming at Channing Tatum and it was so much off.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Oh exactly, exactly, Yes, So like, I personally love that
- 19:03Speaker 2: because it just shows that like, no matter like what,
- 19:06Speaker 2: if you just have a little plan, you can make
- 19:08Speaker 2: Valentine's Day such a memorable and fun night because we
- 19:10Speaker 2: still talk about it to this day because it's hilarious.
- 19:13Speaker 1: One Also, like even just going out to dinner, like
- 19:15Speaker 1: going to a restaurant, get dressed up, make it fun,
- 19:18Speaker 1: go do your thing.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I mean.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Also on the line of food, you can always stay
- 19:23Speaker 1: in and make some like heart shaped food, like I
- 19:25Speaker 1: know me and my friends once made heart shaped pizzas.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And like again Trader Joe's like sponsors please because we
- 19:32Speaker 1: love you, Like you can buy their pizza dough and
- 19:35Speaker 1: you can just roll that out. You can make it
- 19:37Speaker 1: heart shaped. You can make pancakes heart shape, even a cake,
- 19:41Speaker 1: you know, anything like get in the spirit, have some
- 19:45Speaker 1: fun with it.
- 19:46Speaker 2: And then if you're not necessarily looking to do something
- 19:49Speaker 2: with food, you can always do crafts y, Yeah, just
- 19:51Speaker 2: pick up some supplies. You can have like a paint
- 19:53Speaker 2: night or drawing or whatever.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Even like in elementary school, we used to make these mailboxes,
- 20:01Speaker 1: yes for Valentines, and of course they were just like
- 20:04Speaker 1: brown paper bags that you would decorate. But even something
- 20:08Speaker 1: like as simple as that, and then write little personal
- 20:10Speaker 1: Valentines for like anyone in your group and just like
- 20:14Speaker 1: go around the room and deposit those into the mailbox.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Like doing something fun like that is always a good
- 20:19Speaker 1: way to spend your holiday.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so fun. That's so nostalgic too. Real quick,
- 20:24Speaker 2: I wanted to talk about what you can do if
- 20:26Speaker 2: you're Ryan solo this Valentine's Day, because you can have
- 20:30Speaker 2: the I think the Valentine's Day is the perfect time
- 20:32Speaker 2: to have a self care night or self care day.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Whatever you want, self love. It's still Valentine's spirit.
- 20:38Speaker 2: So just go to the store, get a face mask,
- 20:41Speaker 2: get some candles, I don't know, put on your favorite playlist,
- 20:45Speaker 2: like just being super intentional with it too, so that
- 20:48Speaker 2: it doesn't just it doesn't just seem like.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Another night, right, or even like make yourself dinner, Like
- 20:53Speaker 1: do something new and something exciting that's honoring you and
- 20:58Speaker 1: like who you are, Honor your box, honor you know
- 21:01Speaker 1: your mind.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Do something that's just for you exactly because everyone listening
- 21:06Speaker 2: to us right now, you're hot and you should celebrate
- 21:08Speaker 2: that you how amazing you are. Yeah yeah mm hm,
- 21:12Speaker 2: Well that's all the time we have for today. One
