[upbeat rock music] Good morning, good afternoon, and or good evening, everyone.
• 0:19
Good night. Good night. See you. [laughs] Easiest damn podcast ever. Yeah. [laughs] Full spectrum cycling number 81 is our shortest yet. [laughs] Thank you. Come again. Boom.
• 0:32
We gotta then have a record-ish, at least be in the conversation. Mm. Probably be, uh- [laughs] Probably be our most popular show. [laughs] Yeah. S- start doing, like, just three minute
• 0:43
welcome and goodbyes, and- [laughs]... pretty much that's, that's all you get today, folks. Yeah. I think we're just gonna sit here and wait for somebody to call in and see how long that takes. [laughs] Like my brain?
• 0:55
What the hell? I can't find- I don't think that's gonna happen... super doc. There we go. Hey, hey. Nope. It was just-
• 1:05
Well, this- Not to get political, I just keep getting campaign nudges from every direction and any thing possible- Okay... that has invaded my- My name is, uh-... technology... my name is Sydney. I keep getting Sydneys.
• 1:20
Yeah. My- I'm getting some from my mom. Right. I'm like, "Okay," or whatever. I've been called by the census for, like, six days straight asking for Mr., like, Cortez, and I'm like, "You're calling my business phone.
• 1:33
You do it every day." And they're like, "I'm sorry, we'll take you off the list." And then the next day I see the number, I'm like, "All right, here it is again." Put, put a block on it. Eh, it's just funny.
• 1:41
Just tell them not to. [laughs] I'm lonely. That's Tony over there, folks, talking. [laughs] JK giggling, and, and, and this is Sven, your erstwhile host. Uh, weather. Weather's very nice this week. Yeah. Very nice.
• 1:57
Very, very nice. What's that? It is weather. Yeah. I, I- A bit chilly at night, but- This is perfect. Perfect. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Perfect weather. Perfect. Had a little quick chill. When did we go riding?
• 2:08
Uh, Saturday with, uh, with Sam. Oh, yeah. That Friday night. Friday night. Oh, right, right. Yep. Trying to catch some- Yes... some, uh, pictures. Yeah, that's it. Yeah. It was kinda cloudy though.
• 2:21
Of that, that fat bike. That was, uh, 330 pounds a guy on the electric- 3, 300 even. 300 even. Yeah. His power lifting days are behind him. Uh, I wouldn't say that.
• 2:34
[laughs] Sunday I was at, uh, Black Husky with him, meeting his new dog, Stu. Stu is a... Is it a pit? It's a pity, and he's freaking cool. [laughs] He's super puppy. He's, you know, he was... Yep, yep.
• 2:48
But Sam looks over and sees a 175 pound ball, and he immediately knows what it is. He's like, "Who, who, who lifts the Atlas stones?" And it's of course- Tim... Tim. Yeah. And next thing I know Tim and- [laughs]...
• 3:03
Sam are talking, and the next thing I see, Sam's got that damn 175 pound ball over his head. And- Tim has a big old workout area above Black Husky over there. Yeah. He's gonna go to...
• 3:12
He was talking to Sam about going to a shop out in, I don't know, Pewaukee or something. Oh, that's where they do the tire flipping- Yeah, yeah... and all that, all that business. Yeah. [laughs] So I don't think his...
• 3:24
Yeah, his, his strongman days might be behind him, but he's still a gigantic human being. Yes. Um- And still the, uh, the, that particular e-bike, 29 miles an hour or something? Seven, 27, 29. Yeah.
• 3:36
With 300 plus pounds on it? Yeah. That's, it's a powerful bike over there. Yeah. I kept hearing it, like, you'd have the power on and kind of hit a crack in the street, and you'd go dzzt dzzt dzzt dzzt dzzt.
• 3:46
[laughs] 'Cause it's just kind of getting a little air and- Mm-hmm... and, uh- Oh, right, right... spinning the tire while it's, you know, chk-chk, bzzt bzzt. Yeah. That's- That'll shorten a tire life.
• 3:55
[laughs] So I had, uh, I had more dreams about this e-racing bike idea. [laughs] Your two-wheel drive? The two-wheel drive thing, yeah. The, I sent you a text on that today. Mm-hmm.
• 4:08
Like, yeah, you know the, like a phase runner or, I'm not sure if the base runner from Grin can do it, but a phase runner can definitely run two motors. And you can split torque. Mm-hmm.
• 4:17
So 70 th- rear, 30 front or something. Big old huge gear on there. Way more fun on a fat bike. They don't, yeah, they don't make that little tiny motor for the fat bike, but- No... that's the stock class motor.
• 4:31
There you go. The, the- You can run ultra-modified... 310 or 311. Yeah. And then y- you could go all the way up to- Yeah... I don't know, three classes. Make it simple. Yeah.
• 4:40
One is stock, you know, and the top one is cost is no object. Right. [laughs] I could see that getting quite silly. [laughs] Yeah. What are you doing? Stretching over there? 37. No, I would say no object. No object.
• 4:52
Yeah. Yeah. See? Ta-da. Yeah. So I don't know. I was... What about doing it with studs on ice? [laughs] Winter is coming. [laughs] The new production. It, it depend on who's listening. Do you say that?
• 5:04
There's different connotations you can think of right there. Wear white studs on ice. Uh, yeah. Mom and Dad live in Hollywood. Uh, yeah. Um, yeah, that, that's an interesting idea. I hope we get snow this year. I do too.
• 5:21
I got Sam's Wyatt ready over there. Swapped out the- How was it?... cartridge. Uh, it's not too bad. It's, it's pretty simple thing.
• 5:28
There's a lot of very tiny screws that just gotta be careful with them so they don't get lost mostly. Right, right. But, um, yeah, there's really only five little tiny screws. But otherwise, it's pretty simple.
• 5:42
Um, very easy. It's user serviceable. You don't have to send that thing into- Nice... the shock factory or somewhere like that on the Wren inverted fat bike fork.
• 5:53
Probably all Wrens, 'cause they're very similar with different crowns and whatnot. But yeah, it, it was, uh, it's good. And then, uh, retublessified it, and it's ready to roll. Nice. Very cool. That's a fun bike.
• 6:07
Still not convinced on tubeless[laughs] It's like, I don't know, maybe it's just- Invariably messy...
• 6:15
well, and so this one, I had to re-tape it because I think whoever did it before didn't cover up the little pinholes that where they put the rim together.
• 6:23
So sealant was getting in there and then coming out the outside of the rim, and that's like, "That's not right." That's nasty.
• 6:28
But I put, I taped it, put the tire on, put air in it, and it held for a week without any sealant in it. So that, that, uh, Jumbo Jim is quite non-porous. Yeah, I'd say so. Uh, yeah, it's turned out good.
• 6:43
While we're on the, uh, subject of bikes, since this is a biking-type show- Well, hopefully we're on that. Wh- what [laughs] Have you seen- No, we're doing it wrong...
• 6:51
have you seen the, the like spokeless electric bike that's now being- I saw, I saw pictures of it... they've got a couple people riding them now on their Indiegogo campaign. It's, it's- Is it carpet fiber?
• 7:07
I s- it, it's campy for that price. I mean, it's like $2,000 right now. It's 40% off. It's... They say the wheels are, they're like m- they... The... It's very dubious when you watch what they're saying.
• 7:18
The wheels are industrial class materials or something. I just, you know... And then they have to put the... You gotta watch, 'cause they have to put the inflator valve sideways in the tire, so you see it going around.
• 7:34
Huh. Send me a link. Oh. We'll put it in the show notes. It's- People can make their own choices. Yeah, yeah. I will be burping in just a moment. [laughs] Or not. Ah. Ha, ha. So I'm gonna do this thing. Ah. Oh.
• 7:48
Oh, that thing. Right here. This is a short hill. Top, top of the hill, 'cause- It is a pretty short hill... well, yeah, when you have an electric bike, nothing's a hill. Ah. [laughs] Very nice.
• 7:58
Uh, mostly because today show beer is, is three different beers according to the 12-pack with three beers in it, so we might as well talk about quickly the first Three Sheeps from Sheboygan, Wisconsin up there, the surf capital of the Midwest.
• 8:13
Yeah. Uh. Mm, Sheboygan. Three Sheeps Pilsner. Pilsner lock. Yeah, Three Sheeps Pilsner. Um, I d- I don't drink Pilsner a lot. It's very sweet. Yes, it is. It's crisp. It- That's what it is...
• 8:29
it started really, really... I don't drink Pilsners, so yes. I do on occasion. It's not like it's- But it's finishing much better than- Yeah. So. Well, I think it was a wise choice for the first beer. Yes.
• 8:44
And by the way, what does that mean the second beer will be? Probably the Juicy IPA. I suggest we try that. And then- I'm, I'm on my way... and then perhaps the... So that would be- Quick, to the refrigerator...
• 8:55
yeah, and then final- finish it off with the IPA I think. Mm-hmm. We'll find out if we made the right pair. We're not, we're, we're not pairing this with, uh- [laughs]... jerky today. We're pairing it with other beers.
• 9:07
Pairing it, pairing this- [laughs] Isn't that just called a bar? With the other beer. Uh, b- Speaking of- Well, bars are back down to 25% again. Yeah.
• 9:14
'Cause Wisconsin is l- Well- We're leading the nation, I believe, aren't we? We're the best. Uh, I think right now we are sadly leading the nation, yep. We're the best at, at doing the COVID thing.
• 9:24
By cracky, and by best, I mean worst. So yeah, beer number two is Fresh Coast Juicy Pale Ale. Mm. This one I've had, and it's, it's- It's only-... juicy... it's only 4.8% alcohoozy.
• 9:41
So- It's-... that's real good for your- Spicy... your sessioning and whatnot. Yeah, I'd say. Citrusy with tropical fruit. Oh, by the way- Oh, Mike put on his, uh, reading glasses over there... uh, Tim yelled at us.
• 9:53
[laughs] Tim, Tim noted that- Casualty of COVID... when I said he was on the podcast, he's like, "Yeah, you didn't even serve my beer." Mike, I didn't know you were coming, man. When he- When he was on the podcast...
• 10:04
didn't he bring his own beer? He came walking in and we were already drinking, uh, Good City. He even remembered what beer it was. [laughs] Yeah, yeah, yeah. Why didn't he bring his own beer?
• 10:12
He did, but- Well, there we go... I'm like, we didn't... You were like, I, I had already purchased the beer, and- I think he could certainly sponsor the show by giving us beer every week. Mm-hmm.
• 10:22
We could be a Black Husky whore. Mm-hmm. [laughs] Gladly. Gladly. I- Oh, I just had-... oh, I thought you, I thought you weren't allowed to drink it anymore 'cause of the flatulence issue.
• 10:33
Um, I did get in trouble Sunday night, I'm not gonna lie. I had, uh, two of the Elderberry Gozas yesterday down at Tonic. We- Elderberry huh? Goza sour. Yeah, sour. Is that a beer? Yeah.
• 10:51
Yeah. Is that a brewery? What'd you think? It was good. Yeah. I like, I like the sours. It's Black Husky. Black Husky. Oh, Black Husky. Yeah, yeah.
• 10:58
I had n- I don't have, I haven't looked up what the, uh- What would 25% of a Tonic be? That'd be like six people. [laughs] Well. Not very big. Well, they have that bigger room, but- Right, right... you know.
• 11:11
Is that include outside space, or what? Is it six foot rule out- I'm not sure what the whole rule is... yeah, yeah...
• 11:15
I just know that it, that there's new things in place because we're not doing very well, and it's getting to the point where it could get outta hand again.
• 11:24
Well, it's finally getting up north, where people were all thought it was bullshit, which I find both not good, but also like, yeah, deal with what I've been dealing with for, you know, in- especially
• 11:36
given my occupation where I spend a lot of time, um, you know. You, you see this firsthand, and these people are like, "Oh, you know, it's not real. It's nothing." Our glorious leader found out it's real.
• 11:49
Y- yeah, except for now he's claiming it saved his life, or he's, it's like a gift from God. God, God gave it to me. Yeah. He's like, he is- Maybe, maybe yes. I, I was chosen... he's still delirious I think.
• 12:01
Maybe- Well, they also... Yeah, that's part of the other thing there. And he's got all... Yeah, I know he's definitely got some roid rage, man. You know. I mean, not that he didn't before- [laughs]...
• 12:09
but now he's like, they literally said he's on steroids. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. So I mean, it's not being, you know-
• 12:15
You know, whimsically saying, "Oh yeah, roid ra-" No, you are on steroids and you are raging He's gonna come out looking like Putin Duh. Duh. Watch- Lose all his hair... and just super buff- Or take off that rug.
• 12:26
Take off the toupee... on a horse. [laughs] Yeah, like, yeah, like Ride It Out baby Stewie. Exactly. You know what I mean? Can you see it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. On a horse? That would be good. There's a horse in this house.
• 12:36
[laughs] There's a horse in this house. [laughs] Right on, right on. Uh, here's one I'm not positive of yet. I called our, our buddy Mike from Zuzu Pedals up there- Mm-hmm... Port Washington way. Guess what?
• 12:50
Mike doesn't work at Zuzu Pedals [laughs] anymore. Oh, shit. I was looking for confirmation of something I was reading in the forums on, uh, Mountain Beer, whatever it's called, MTBR,
• 13:00
and nobody contradicted this, but I understand that Specialized is not gonna be in the fat bike business anymore. Really? I had heard that years ago though. Looking for, looking for independent confirmation.
• 13:12
You know, it's amazing how many companies k- kind of came and went, um- Yeah... that jumped in with both feet and then found out that the market is
• 13:23
really kind of best served by smaller builders and smaller companies, I think. Yeah. I don't think it's a... It's not someone's necessarily first, second, or even third bike in a lot of instances.
• 13:34
And you know, it's when you're looking for something, you know, a, a little above caliber, so to speak, you know? Sure. Well, I mean, the Fat Boy was not a super four-season bike either.
• 13:48
It had a pretty steep head tube angle. Yeah, yeah. You know, it, it's not a bike like a Wyatt that's really made to rip trails too, you know? Right. And then drop pressure down.
• 13:59
You could even steepen it up by putting a shorter fork on it if you like that kind of handling in the softer stuff too, so. Oh, yeah, totally. It's a very versatile bike. Versatile.
• 14:10
I think, uh- Spea- speaking of versatile, I'm working on my, uh, review for the 604, Surly 604 Bore. The, uh, part one, the Urban Assault angle. The Urban Assault section, yeah. I like that bike.
• 14:23
[laughs] I have no complaints. [laughs] I mean, I'm... I, I will say this, you don't wanna live on the third floor walk-up with it, uh, you know? But- Probably best served by having a garage... a garage, yep.
• 14:36
Or- Park it next to your Tesla and charge it at the same time... e- exactly. Uh, it is a lot, a lot of fun to ride, for sure. Is your new, is your garage gonna be 220 friendly so you can charge cars? Yeah. Yeah.
• 14:54
That house is so fucking expensive. I'm not even gonna tell you what the fucking bill is. There's money in this house. Yes, there is. There's money in that house. [laughs] But I just got 500 feet of Cat 6 [laughs]
• 15:05
that I'll be running- Oh... so I can set up my network with hardwired connections so my daughter doesn't complain about the internet speed. Probably a good idea. Yeah. I'm also checking out the new...
• 15:16
I'm, I'm pitching something here even though I haven't even seen it, although the, the specs look really good, is the, uh, the new Google Mesh Wi-Fi system. 200 bucks, it's got three, three, uh, units that each- Unit...
• 15:30
I said unit. That each have two gig, two gigabit ethernet ports and Wi-Fi, all really high band. Why don't you look at the U- 3,500 square foot... why don't you look at the Ubiquiti- Um...
• 15:40
amplifier, whatever it's called. Uh, it's Unifi. I mean, I- U- no, there's a different one now. Oh, the Dream- It's a little, it's a little square box that has- Oh, it's actually circular, isn't it? Nope, the square one.
• 15:50
It's new-ish. Oh. And then you have the, like, the- Yeah... their extenders are different than a mesh system. You just plug them into the socket and... Yeah. I, I've seen good and bad reviews on that one.
• 16:01
If I'm gonna go Ubiquiti, I'm going... Why are we talking about computers? But if I'm going Ubiquiti- 'Cause you're a nerd. That's why you brought it up...
• 16:06
yeah, I'm, I'm going Unifi, and I'm gonna go with, with Pro Access Points. And yeah, I could do that too. It's about 600 bucks versus two. Mm. But I do get a much more robust system. I get- Robust...
• 16:16
you know- And you can control it from your telephone... well, and I can- You must. You must control robust... I can PoE out to my garage. You know, I can do full Wi-Fi out to the garage.
• 16:24
I can, you know, I can do really nice- Are you gonna have smart light bulbs? So if any of you- Yeah... folks need any networking help- [laughs]... uh, Tony's available for consultation.
• 16:31
Yeah, I, yeah, I definitely can kind of stay down, consultate on, uh- Consultate. I was gonna try and have you come over and help, uh, Garrett get his stupid Chromebook to print- Right...
• 16:41
on the printer, because it's a nightmare to get that thing to- Yeah, they are. Chromebooks suck to print... 'cause he's home three days a week, and he goes to school- What's he printing, though?... two days a week.
• 16:49
Does he print homework? Well, I don't think he has to do it very often, so I've kinda gotten around it by- Can't you send it to school? Well- 'Cause that's what the web prints do. Yeah. The fresh prints?
• 16:59
[laughs] The web print-s. Prints. [laughs] I like that. Um, y- yeah, I guess he could, but I... Then he has to- He can send it right to his teacher's desk. Yeah, I think the...
• 17:10
I think what, what came up was the teacher releases a test like four minutes before, so you can't study it, and you're supposed to go print it out, and then...
• 17:18
But not, I mean- That, that's nearly impossible for people that live in MPS district [laughs] 'cause none of them have printers. Yeah. Right. I don't have a printer. I don't have a printer at home.
• 17:26
  I've, I've no use for a printer. I have a printer, but I don't- I-... I have never used it...
• 17:30
we just had a need because of the paperwork, the adoption paperwork for Daniel, I finally have a need to buy one, and I'll probably go out and buy like $129 Brother- Yeah, yeah... laser le- you know, and just go.
• 17:40
That one right there. That, that was like 99 bucks. That's... Yeah. They, they've basically gone up to like 120 now. And then- That's the exact same one... and then when you get a new cartridge, it's 99 bucks. Exactly.
• 17:48
You just go out and buy another printer. Did that for- It's kind of a bad-... did that for years with Epsons... it is... and that's really a bad thing. I just- It's a bad environmental thing, that's for sure...
• 17:54
pull the ink out and put the printer back in the box and take it back to Best Buy. [laughs] No. Doesn't work. Doesn't work 'cause I took all the ink out of there.
• 18:04
Um, I finally got the printer at the shop working, which I'm super excited about. There's some setting in there that keeps it from dropping the network connection or something. Oh, nice. Nice. Stupid thing.
• 18:15
Well, we could have just ran an ethernet connection to it, too. Could have. Didn't. Yeah. This has been Tech Talk with- Yeah. What is this, '97? Ben and Tony. I guess. [laughs] Yeah. D- really?
• 18:25
Do we have to wire stuff again? [laughs] I like to wire stuff, yes. Yes. I think it's gonna become increasingly important to be wired, I think, with the- I-... the security issues with- Security.
• 18:34
I bought a 12 port Cat6 patch panel too. Oh, it's the return of the fax machine. I th- people still ask me- For-... to send them faxes. Yeah. I'm like, "Really?" S- security wise- What, what is that thing again?...
• 18:46
it's- We use tremendous amount of faxes. Yep. Yep, yep, yep. They do. They're still- As of... Yeah, they're just like d- okay, you know, do not send it as an attachment. The, the nice thing is- Barely.
• 18:56
I mean, it's like, hey... there's digital faxing now, which is really convenient. I got the- Uh-oh. Oh, is that the- I charged up the Orp. The Orp. Orp. Oh, that's funny. That's a pretty cool light. O-R-P.
• 19:07
It makes this sound. [Orp beeping] Oh. That's awesome. Get out of my way. [Orp beeping] Where did you find that? I, I don't know if it was a Kickstarter. I've had it for a while.
• 19:20
[Orp beeping] And I just- It looks like the-... found it at the warehouse and I'm like, "You know, I think I'll charge that thing up." It's- I... Can I touch that?
• 19:27
Yeah, it's very- It looks like the little- It's very slimy feeling. It's kind of a- Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I picked up a couple- Take a, take a picture of that thing- Yeah... people can see what that looks like.
• 19:34
It's like the little thing for a buck that you get at, like, Ace Hardware. You know, like- I, I don't think it's a buck though... the little like scrappy lights. No, no, no, no, no.
• 19:40
[laughs] I mean, it's got the, the shape of it, but it, like, the miniaturized one. Well, it's Orp, I think. Is that how you'd say it? ORP. Orp. It's not my favorite thing, but it is a thing I like.
• 19:53
[laughs] I don't think I talked about the thing I, I dig last week. I like that. That's a thing I like. I like that too. Orp. This is my thing I dig right here. It's a Yeti 20 ounce
• 20:05
Thermos-y cup thing, which I already have a nice picture of. Turn so I can get a... Oh. See, it has our, um... They, they can do laser etching on it. Family. So it has 2018 Atlanta Smith Family Reunion, uh,
• 20:19
right on the side of it there. I got one for- That's nice. Show it... I got one for here and one for at home. So Wendy doesn't actually have any. [laughs] Nice. That is a cool thing though.
• 20:30
I, it, it does a great job of keeping stuff cold and/or warm. Right on. Yeah, I have a, a, I have a Contigo, uh, that it's got, like... I think it's called Vacu Seal, whatever, blah, blah, blah.
• 20:43
And they all have their little, you know, tricky names. But shit, it will- That's a gravelly voice there. Oh, [laughs] yeah. That's right. Yeah. I'm getting, I'm getting pretty emotional about this, uh, [laughs]
• 20:56
w- water bottle I own. But it will hold, uh, you know, ice cube, you know, ice water for, fuck all, 13 hours, and not even touching it, and just be like rattling it around. Oh yeah, there's still ice- Oh, yeah...
• 21:10
clicking in there. Yeti's the- I was like, I was like, "God damn"... the, that's the night- that's the nice sound which is 76 decibels. The loud sound, which I forget how to change it, is 96, which is quite loud. Yeah.
• 21:22
That's pretty cool. Eep op Orp ah, ah. It's, it's the friendly sound. Eep op Orp ah, ah. Eep. It's, um, it's orplan.com, folks, if you wanna check it out. It just, it's a cool thing. Yeah.
• 21:31
It's got, uh, a s- two 70 lumen LEDs and a couple different modes and- Huh. I don't know. It's got... So the space shuttle, if, when that's taking off, is 215 decibels, so it's not that loud. Uh, a 747, 140.
• 21:49
An elephant, 110 decibels. 96 decibels for the Orp. Oh, so it... Yeah. While a, while a car driving by is a mere 70, so. Yeah. In between a car and an elephant. Yeah. [laughs] Right in the middle there.
• 22:00
That, that's all I saw from that graphic. [laughs] Right? That's awesome. [laughs] I don't know... Oh, it's a fly. They're, fly's four decibels for a fly. Oh, for... Yes. Yeah.
• 22:09
I'm just trying to f- find out how much the thing costs- It needs scale. It needs scale... 'cause I don't remember what the actual price of the thing is, but they've got lots of colors.
• 22:18
I don't think they make anything but this actual product right here. Yeah, that is intriguing, is... Oh. I guess, uh, I guess you can't buy one. Uh, uh. I don't know. Somewhere. It, I would have a Buy Me button.
• 22:28
Oh, there we go. Just have to look for it. [laughs] Oh, no, that's the Remorp. That's the, uh, some sort of a attachment. So they're 50 bucks. Oh, shit. $50. Harason. That's not that bad. Not at all.
• 22:42
What's the lumen on the light itself? 270s, so one... That would be 140, I believe. So they're two single 71. Yeah, those do look like they're big motherfuckers. They're pretty bright. Excuse my language.
• 22:52
Right in your, in your eyeball sockets. Eyeballs. Yeah. What? That's everything... Why is everything blue? Orp. Orp, ah, ah. Eep, ock, ork, ah, ah. By the way, this, um, this juicy- Designed in Germany...
• 23:05
this juicy, fresh- Is much better... most juicy is... That's pretty good beer right there. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Even though, you know, it's not a big beer. Mm-hmm. It's a little beer, little tiny beer.
• 23:14
Oh, and by the way, that Black Husky Elderberry Gose allegedly only clocks in at like 4.2%. So you can drink like a billion of them. Yeah, for- I thought they only made big beers over there.
• 23:28
But I don't think you can make goses big. Market appeal, my friend. And sours I don't think can- Get built... get big. No. Uh- The, they sour before the yeast can eat all the- Something like... There's ma-... I, I...
• 23:40
there's science in there-... I'm not a-... that I don't understand... a scientist... I go for taste. That's why it'd be nice if Colin Ford would fucking call in and tell us, 'cause, you know, that guy should call in.
• 23:47
Yes. Well, he probably could- Call, call in, Ford... call in, call in. Call in. Should tell him to call in. Call in, Ford. That's- Yeah... couple whatever. Yeah. He was here not that long ago. I know. I was with him.
• 23:58
Well, you were with him too. I was with him, and you were with him. We were all with him. We were all with him. Uh, I- Wasn't, were you guys-... do you guys- Wasn't there gas involved when he was in last in town?
• 24:09
What kind of gas? No, it was the strain. Oh, right. Yeah. [laughs] Gaslight? Gas- No, just gas... gas something. Gas Flower. I think I still have some somewhere of that. That was a rocket ship at Telluride. Yeah.
• 24:21
That was- Speaking of rockets... that's what I like, so you can just, uh, get shit done That was funny. Fun, fun Did you guys ever read Bike Magazine? No. [sighs] I liked it 'cause it had really good photography in it.
• 24:33
Maybe. You can't get it anymore though 'cause COVID, you know, shutting them down. Might not come back. Sorry, Bike Magazine, you, you were cool for a while there. I don't know how many they actually ever put out though.
• 24:44
I don't think it was, like, a monthly thing anymore. I think people go to the interwebs now and look for their pictures. Yeah, true. Probably. You know what website I like a lot? Bikepacking.com. Huh.
• 24:56
What a beautiful website. It's laid out well too. Yeah. Oh. It's got- they got good stuff on there. And our buddy, El Longo Jeff, apparently- Did you see that? Yeah... he's out in, uh, the Idaho way.
• 25:07
Took the Empire Builder out there. I didn't realize he was taking the Amtrak. [laughs] That's a nice ride if you got the time. Sure. Oh, yeah. I was- It's only two and a half day, two days out there.
• 25:16
It's not a very long time. I mean, the, the, the riding around- No, no, it took me-... definitely- Yeah... jealous, but I was like, "Oh- We took it to Seattle and back... I've been, I've been thinking on that Amtrak.
• 25:23
I really wanna do that, or any of those." Oh, God, I just pulled Facebook up and it has- [laughs] Ah. [laughs] See? It has my Adam Ant photo there. Yep.
• 25:32
[laughs] Um, uh, so, so sc- [laughs] Jeff had, um, messaged me the other day and said his rear derailleur cable wasn't holding anymore, and he sent a picture of it. It was holding on by like two of the strands.
• 25:44
[laughs] And he d- had- was 40 miles away from a bike shop. He said, "How can I limp this thing home?" I said, "I, I don't know what kind of tools you got."
• 25:53
And I kinda hummed and hawed for a while, but I came up with just shorten one of the housings up a little bit so that you can haul to the good part of the cable and lock it in. There you go.
• 26:03
You know, you might have, you might have to replace that part of cable if it's, you know... You're only gonna get five out of the 10 gears, but big deal. It's gonna work.
• 26:10
No, you could, you s- I mean, you should still get them all, just- Oh, if you cut the housing down. Yeah, you're right... cut the housing down, keep the g- and get to a good part- Oh, yeah... of the cable.
• 26:18
That's gonna need enough tools to do that. That's, yeah. I mean, you could kinda do it with a side cutter at a gas station or a bar or something. Every- think everybody in a pickup truck out there's got a toolbox. Yeah.
• 26:27
True that. True that. Or you could just shoot it with a gun probably. [laughs] Put a, put a bullet in that housing. [laughs] Um, so I- That'd work... ap- apparently he, he was, uh, able to get rolling again.
• 26:41
And, you know, he's... I forget what the route he's doing is called, but it's going through grizzly country. Is he coming all the way back here? No, it's a circuitous route- Yeah...
• 26:50
of five days or six days that shows- Oh, I did run into a- Out, I'm sure Adventure... What, what's the adventure biking website called? Adventurebiking.org or something. Yeah. I'm sure they have this route on there.
• 27:02
It's, uh, quite popular. Yeah, it's like the... Uh, maybe, I don't know if this is the same one. I think it starts with an L. It was like something French- Mm... is the one I caught.
• 27:10
Maybe- Caught in Courtaulins, something like that. In, out there in Courtaulins area? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Oh, that's a town. Well, that's what I'm saying. A city. That's a city- Yeah... out that way.
• 27:21
That's why I'm, I'm, I'm going like, "Yes, I'm hitting the button. I found the email." Here's, here's something- One of the most scenic bike trails or bike rides. Scenic. Yeah. Supposed to be very nice.
• 27:31
I think he's on his, uh, Milwaukee. That's what it looked like in the picture. Same one he took to Iceland. Yeah. Uh, here's something silly, $149 bike box from BikeFlights. Wow. It's a cardboard box.
• 27:47
[laughs] I, I, for whatever reason, the news, you know, I have the news reader that follows a bunch of cycling sites, and everybody put the press release up for this box for some reason.
• 27:58
And I just happened to get a bike from a customer re- that was, uh, a return for a lady I do work for, and it was in one of those boxes. They claim it can be shipped 10 times. Hmm.
• 28:10
This already had holes in it, and it was missing a couple parts. I'm not sure the 10 times- Maybe it was shipped eight times... maybe, maybe it had been used before. I kinda doubt it. Wow.
• 28:20
But anyway, it's a really big box. For 150 bucks? It just seems kinda spendy for cardboard. Yeah, for, for, yeah. I mean, for 300 bucks you can get a Coroplast, you know- And put it in yourself and be-...
• 28:33
m- many reusable times- Speaking of Coroplast- They make great panniers too... this is the Trail of the Courbeau... Trail of the Courtaulins. Oh, I don't know if that's it or not. Oh, yeah. But that sounds right.
• 28:42
That's what came up. Nice. That's what came up. So I don't know. I'm not sure about that box. I guess
• 28:49
if you, if, if you were shipping it to a destination, riding, and then shipping it back, you know, you're cutting your costs down. But does seem kinda spendy for a box. Yeah. Do you, uh- Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 29:02
I can tell you this with certainty, shipping bikes is s- it sucks. Oh, yeah, of course. You know, you can't- Anything large... well, you can't ship one fully assembled- Right...
• 29:12
without putting it on a crate and treating it like a motorcycle. And then it costs, you know, three, 400 bucks. Right. But, you know, when you're doing an electric bike, you, it just, it's like they're heavy.
• 29:23
Shipping that's hard. Yeah, they're expensive- And, and-... 'cause they're heavy... you gotta, if you have to take them apart- Somebody's gotta put it together... right.
• 29:29
You have to have a competent person to put it back together, so. I'll be looking into more ways to ship.
• 29:35
If anybody out there has ways to ship bikes complete and whole at less than 200 bucks per shipment, that would sure be a nice thing to know. But I doubt it. So, uh, JK's going to get our final taster.
• 29:51
We- it's a two hill day. Oh. Well, where's my thing? [bell ringing] There's the thingamajigger. So, um- Hear how that duck- Do, do you think, uh- That, do you hear how that ducking works? That was pretty cool. It was.
• 30:06
Do you, uh, do you think Bert and- Do you, do you?... Mike listen to this show? Cliff? If they're intelligent, no. They seem pretty smart.
• 30:17
Because, um, after partially forgetting and also forgetting to check and maybe blowing it off a few times, I finally emailed the, uh, the fine people at the River West '24 and said, "Hey-
• 30:33
I paid for a couple of shirts Yeah, me too Where, where the heck's my shirts? And Julie responded back, "That's a damn good question." And lo and behold, today I got two shirts. Where's my shirts?
• 30:46
I didn't get a shirts yet. That's 'cause you didn't complain like I did. I didn't complain, I asked politely. Make sure I get an email to- Um-...
• 30:52
complain, I mean, to query too Pick it back I gave the money right to Wendy, so I want my shirt, damn it. Well, that's, that's... It should be there. Yeah. So, yeah, I'm, uh, I'm- I, I gave an email address.
• 31:04
I said, "By the way, I'm right across the street from where you're taking the money," so. All right. Um, I'm sure your shirt's in the mail, so to speak. In the mail. Should show up. Kinda like Sam's is.
• 31:14
Sorry, Sam, one day I'm gonna mail your shirt to Australia. Or, uh, [laughs] Australia, Switzerland. Well, wherever. Maybe I'll send it to Australia so it bounces back to Switzerland.
• 31:22
It's probably gonna follow her around- She-... the country or world for years. She posted a great picture of her in a park and a ton of snow already in Switzerland. [laughs] She's up in the mountains, man.
• 31:33
It was steep and deep, man. It was so cool. They get snow over there pretty early up at those high elevations. Yeah, you better believe it. Hmm. You've never been to Switzerland, have you?
• 31:40
You've never been- I've never, I have never left this continent. Oh. I will not leave- Switzerland... I will not leave this continent until I leave it for good. [laughs] Oh, no way, man. Switzerland is stunning.
• 31:54
F- absolutely freaking stunning. Yeah, as you take a cog train, it's so steep that in the center of the wheel it's got a cog to help climb up the mountain. Like the one that goes up, uh, Pikes Peak? Yeah.
• 32:06
Kink, kink, kink, kink, kink. Exactly. It's like a rollercoaster. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, in the, in the Price Is Right. [sings] Yeah. It, it's a very... I- [laughs] Don't... Oh, Greg, you gotta leave the country.
• 32:18
It was great. It was great. You have to leave the country, Greg. [laughs] You gotta go. Well, I'm trying, but- Yeah. [laughs]... nobody'll, nobody'll take us right now. They can't. They, they won't take Americans.
• 32:27
They don't, they don't... Nope, can't come here, no. Not anywhere I wanna go anyway. I'm just telling you. Yeah, Switzerland would be cool. It was eye-opening.
• 32:34
The, my first trip to Europe was, changed, changed my life from like, like- Yeah... yeah. Now, yeah, my, I know my next round, once I- I gotta hit Italy. I gotta hit Pompeii. Wow, I loved Italy. Yep, yep.
• 32:45
Pompeii, Herculaneum area. It's like, that's, that's why I got my little piece of paper. South, south of France, man. I'm gonna go to the south of France. I got my one piece of paper...
• 32:53
I'm gonna do it and- Classical civilization Yep... you know? It's like, come on, I gotta go to the south I've been watching the, the Medici show on the, uh, whatever it's on, Netflix or something. Okay.
• 33:02
So that's, it, it, they sh- I dunno where, how the scenery is done, but it's very beautiful. Oh, shit, yeah. The scenery. Yeah. It's- I just wanna see some ruins and- The, I've been in-...
• 33:13
the porno graffiti all over Pompeii... some of the, some of the castles are, that I've been in are just like, to think that one family lived in them is just like, wow. With the tapestries. Tapestries, yeah.
• 33:24
You do have it, you have tapestries. Ah-choo. Now you've made me go kind of sniffle. [laughs] Right on. Hey, don't forget about, uh, December 5th, Santa Rampage Day. Santa. Oh. And Global Fat Bike Day.
• 33:39
Uh- That's, you know- Yeah... that's down the, down the ways a little bit. Yeah, man, we haven't even hit damn Halloween. We have Mattie's. Oh, speaking of Halloween, uh- The, the, the best damn time of the year...
• 33:48
speaking of Halloweenies, um, Mr. Zeto is talking about doing a Biketoberfest 'cause, uh, Uncle Bill isn't doing it this year. Right on. Some- There's something-... some game afoot. We must- Sure...
• 33:59
probably go do a- Is he gonna do it like-... recon ride... Uncle Bill where- He was talking about coming up this way f- this time, so I know they've come up north before, so start down there.
• 34:09
But I mean doing it where he doesn't tell anyone. You just gotta- At Milwaukee by Bike and- Oh, no, w- you find out what the next stop is when you get there. Yeah. Yeah, I love that.
• 34:17
[laughs] Yeah, I think that's, that's the greatest way to keep a gr- Yeah, it's- Of course, when we're trying- But it-... to social distance- Right... it's not good. Yeah, if you can- Oh, yeah, yeah... right.
• 34:24
If you have a group ride and you can keep the group together, that's a great way to do it. Yeah. I'm not sure that's prudent this- Right. Yeah... at, it's not prudent at this juncture. This wouldn't be prudent.
• 34:34
Not gonna happen. Not gonna- Except when I got caught, I got caught in the caboose and I didn't know where the hell I was and where I was going.
• 34:41
[laughs] And I was trying to keep lights on the horizon, and it wasn't happening, and- That's the one- Mm... wasn't the last one?
• 34:46
Well, that's when I was babysitting the one dude that was drunk as hell, and he kept bonking into the freaking curbs. That wasn't Tony that ran into the curb and fell down? That was one.
• 34:51
No, this one ran into the curb multiple freaking times. [laughs] Never fell down, though. Was that after, was that Biketober I did that- No... or was that a different one? It was down that way somewhere. Oh, man.
• 34:59
Ask Little T Kettle, man. I would normally g- yeah, Biketoberfest normally went south from launch point. South. And then Tour de Forest would go north. Ah. So they could just do a amalgam of it- Yeah...
• 35:08
and be like, "Ha, ha." Uh, I, I have to kinda semi change the subject back to bikes, but even though we were talking about bikes. That was bikes. What, what, what's hanging there on the, on the rack there?
• 35:15
There looks to be some sort of big old wheel. Dang old one of the Grin, uh, all-axle electric motor wheels. Whoa. That's, that's, we gotta finish that this weekend. It is an electric. I'm out of town Saturdays.
• 35:29
We better be doing it Sunday. Ah, we'll get her done. Get her done. Get her done. Waterslides. Speaking of getting her done, we got her done, bike tracking. Waterslides. Ooh. 6.7, here's the big baby. Oh. Oh. Oh.
• 35:39
Here's the big baby. Oh, we'll talk about that and then, and then we'll- Now we're done... then we'll get her done. Oh, yeah. Waterslides India Pale Ale. See you on the other side. Whoo.
• 35:47
It's got the, uh, it's got the hoppy, citrusy harmon- harmoniousnesses. Don't go chasing waterslides. So this is the only one they put the IBUs on, 60. And what'd you say? Seven something? 6.7. 6.7. 6.7. Yeah.
• 36:02
So that's the trifecta of beers today, folks, all from- You know-... Three Sheeps in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, surf capital of the Midwest...
• 36:08
and, you know, not to throw a plug in, but it's like one of the last weeks the Public House is open, so we should probably go over there and have a beer. Ah. It's okay. I thought they closed last. Yeah, me too.
• 36:19
Lights on. Ooh. All right. Well, maybe we'll go over there then. [laughs] It might be the new, uh, Up and Under. That wouldn't suck. Wouldn't that be fun? Yeah. It would be. All right, everybody. Thanks for listening.
• 36:31
Yeah. And, uh, enjoy your- Happy Friday... enjoying your time with us this week. Probably be here next week- See you... all things being equal. Good night and good luck. And good day.
• 36:43
  [upbeat rock music]
