- 0:45SPEAKER_00: to everyday marketplace decisions,
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: allowing you to build relationships that far outlast any transaction.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: And I do my best to bring timeless biblical truth into the marketplace
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: where I truly do believe that influence is real and choices are constant.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And frankly, relationships matter far more than any results.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So grab a cup of coffee and let's get started.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Today, I am sharing from Chapter 31 of Marketplace Proverbs,
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Volume 3, Ego, Humility, and the KPI that Matters Most, written by yours truly.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I'm quoting Proverbs 31, verse 30 from the ESV.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: roadside billboards have gone digital,
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: flashing big, bold graphics and rotating messages.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: They enable advertisers to promote multiple brands on the same screen,
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: you know, 15 to 20 seconds at a time.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: It appears that local restaurants seem to love them.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: they know that we're all hungry for something and
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And they put those signs up around,
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: you know, the traditional lunch and breakfast or dinner times.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: That's pretty smart.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: But here's the thing, really.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: We are all walking billboards.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Every person we encounter today is wearing a sign.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Some are loud and obvious.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Others are subtle and quiet.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Yet they're real.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Our signs convey our desires, fears, stress, or feelings of peace.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: During my sales career, I often wore a sign that read goal-focused, transaction-driven.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I was driven and intent on creating a transaction, closing the deal, chasing that transactions.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I was so focused on that sign that That I completely missed
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: the ones my customer was showing me.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Signs of deeper needs, hesitation, or the desire for clarity and connection.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: That kind of blindness is more than ineffective.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I was selfish.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: And my sign might have read professional,
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: but what it really communicated was pushy and self-centered.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And that sign doesn't attract people.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: It repels them.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Over the years,
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: I've learned how important it is to not only read the signs around me,
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: but also choose my own sign carefully.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Am I wearing a sign that says sales rep or trusted partner?
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Am I leading with ego or serving with humility?
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Remember in previous episodes, I said ego is an acronym edging God out.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: And do I present myself as a billboard of grace or self-promotion?
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: In a world full of noise, what people are really hungry for isn't more hype.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: It's nourishment.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: It's the basis for transformation.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: They're thirsty for honesty.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: They long for signs of peace.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: They crave leaders, customer success masters who listen, care, and connect.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: And frankly,
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: that's the heartbeat of Marketplace Proverbs Volume 3,
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: replacing performance-based ego with purpose-driven humility,
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: replacing transactional metrics with key partnership indicators that align
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: with something greater than ourselves.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: And that's the purpose and the underlying foundation of all that I do
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: in this podcast and the books that I write.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: So today, I'm choosing to wear a sign that welcomes, not warns.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: A sign that reads, I see you, I hear you, I'm here to add significance to you.
