- 1:03approved federal lodging list after allegedly refusing to accommodate ICE agents. We have an
- 1:09update on this ongoing story. New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani has appointed a longtime housing
- 1:14activist. Her name is Sia Weaver. She's going to run the city's office to protect tenants and
- 1:20almost immediately some of her old social media posts and some of her past comments have started
- 1:25recirculating. And boy, they raised a few eyebrows. You don't want to miss this story. President
- 1:31Trump speaking at the House GOP policy retreat Tuesday went off script just a bit and did what
- 1:37only Donald Trump can do. He acted something out. You're going to want to hear this as well.
- 1:42And Governor Henry McMaster is asking legislators to spend another one point one billion on road
- 1:49work as inflation drives up costs. This is part of the governor's budget recommendations for the
- 1:54legislative session. Sets began in just a couple of weeks. It's a busy day. Let's get started.
- 2:01I told you we'd be back. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
- 2:07It's Joey Hudson. I want to name it the Joey Hudson bill, but, you know, they don't allow you
- 2:10to name put names on bills. But I want to call it the Joey Hudson bill because I know that one's
- 2:16been near and dear to you for a number of years. That's how it's done. Let your voice be heard.
- 2:25Here's Joey Hudson. So I want to give you an update on a story I told you about yesterday,
- 2:31the Hampton Inn Hotel in Minnesota. It appeared that they were refusing to rent rooms to ICE
- 2:40agents. Remember this? Well, Hilton is now saying there's more to the story,
- 2:45but there may be a little too late. The General Services Administration,
- 2:49known as the GSA, said that it is terminating the Hampton Inn Lakeville in Minnesota from its list
- 2:56of approved lodging sites for all federal employees after the hotel refused to accommodate
- 3:01ICE agents and immigration officers. Now, here's the story from Fox and Friends. Good morning. DHS
- 3:07says that hotel canceled those reservations for DHS officers after seeing their government emails.
- 3:14DHS posted a series of screenshots that appear to be from a Hilton email account on January 2nd.
- 3:20One of those emails saying, we are not allowing any immigration agents to house on our property.
- 3:26DHS is accusing Hilton Hotels of launching a coordinated campaign in Minneapolis to refuse
- 3:31service to DHS officers. But Hilton, in a new statement, is distancing themselves, saying this
- 3:37hotel is independently owned and operated and these actions were not reflective of Hilton values.
- 3:44We have been in direct contact with the hotel and they have apologized for the actions of their team,
- 3:49which was not in keeping with their policies. Hilton's position is clear. Our properties are
- 3:54open to everyone and we do not tolerate any form of discrimination. The management company for the
- 4:00Hampton Inn Lakeville property is also issuing a statement. Everpeak Hospitality says they have
- 4:06moved swiftly to address this matter as it was inconsistent with our policy of being a welcoming
- 4:12place for all. We are in touch with the impacted guests to ensure they are accommodated. We do not
- 4:17discriminate against any individuals or agencies and apologize to those impacted. DHS Assistant
- 4:23Secretary though, Tricia McLaughlin, suggests Everpeak hasn't done enough posting this. I wonder
- 4:29how Everpeak Hospitality has moved swiftly to address this matter when DHS and ICE have not
- 4:35heard anything from them. We'll see if that changes today. Now all you need to know is several emails
- 4:41posted by the Department of Homeland Security and ICE on Monday showed that the hotel was quote
- 4:47not allowing any ICE or immigration agents to stay at any of our properties. After I was informed
- 4:54that a local Hilton property canceled rooms reserved for ICE, GSA immediately reviewed the
- 4:59matter and found the hotel to be in clear violations of its government lodging program.
- 5:05This according to GSA Administrator Edward Forrest as he told Fox News. He said the property has been
- 5:11removed from the programs and booking tools effective immediately. GSA unequivocally supports
- 5:17our federal law enforcement partners. The GSA is a federal agency. It's responsible for managing and
- 5:23supporting the basic functioning of federal agencies. Forrest was nominated by President
- 5:28Donald Trump to lead the agency and he was sworn in on Christmas Eve after being confirmed by the
- 5:34U.S. Senate in mid-December. Now the formerly Hilton branded hotel was stripped of its Hilton
- 5:42label by the hotel chain Tuesday after this video surfaced appearing to show that the location
- 5:49continued to deny immigration officers despite Hilton Hotel saying that the venue had apologized
- 5:56and that the properties are open to everyone and they said we do not tolerate any form of
- 6:02discrimination. The hotel participated in a government lodging program partnership is known as
- 6:07GSA FedRooms is between federal employees and the location. Now after the Hampton Inn Lakeville
- 6:14denied federal agents rooms, GSA removed the property from all lodging programs and travel
- 6:20systems. FedRooms is a GSA managed transient lodging program. It's provided for federal travel
- 6:27regulation compliant hotel accommodations to U.S. government and military travelers at or below
- 6:33federal per diem rates. Now GSA also terminated emergency lodging services and long-term lodging
- 6:39at the property as well. Fox News learned through sources that the hotel accommodated federal agents
- 6:44for roughly 130 total nights last year including active duty military members along with civilian
- 6:52employees. The total number of federal workforce exceeds four million. Hilton Hotels noted in its
- 6:59initial statement that the Hampton Inn Lakeville is quote independently owned and operated and said
- 7:04that officials from the property took immediate action to resolve this matter and are contacting
- 7:10impacted guests to ensure that they're accommodated. Now a viral video posted by another citizen
- 7:17journalist posted to X, this time freelance journalist Nick Sortor, this was posted yesterday
- 7:24as well, showed an employee at the counter continuing to deny federal agents after Hilton said it wasn't
- 7:32happening. This of course going against Hilton's statement. Mr. Sortor is shown walking into the
- 7:39very Hampton Inn that started this whole fiasco, asked for a room, is told there are rooms available
- 7:45and he actually pulls up and you can see on his screen where he was looking online and it showed
- 7:50that they had more than the 10 rooms that he asked for. When he claimed to be a homeland security
- 7:55officer, the clerk clearly says that they're not allowed to offer rooms to immigration agents.
- 8:01Let's listen in. Hello, how are you? Good. Do you have any rooms for tonight?
- 8:06We should, yeah. Okay, like how many? Can we get like 10?
- 8:19Did you already make reservation plans? No. What's the name? It would just, it would be
- 8:26just Nick. I just put it under my personal. I don't know if you can use a government rate or not but
- 8:34uh it depends because there's a lot of stuff going on right now uh is it uh what agency
- 8:43is it for? It'd be a department, homeland security. Uh so we're not accepting people
- 8:52from immigration, ICE agents, DHS into our property. It's just the apartment management
- 8:58ownership. Okay, I thought that changed today. I just talked to my um the owner of the building
- 9:07and uh he didn't say there hasn't been any changes so um yeah it's just it's just policy
- 9:15you know that. Yeah, I mean that's not not your fault. Totally, yeah, totally get that. So they
- 9:20they actually said that was it was like I mean honestly this is the most convenient location so
- 9:25so they they told you no that there's no yeah no immigration well DHS isn't all yeah immigration
- 9:38okay so the so even with the thing that they said earlier or they they mentioned that
- 9:44there was a statement that they put out you know saying that they were
- 9:48that they accept everybody and uh I haven't been informed. I can call my owner right now if you
- 9:55want and ask him what's that that's probably good just trying to figure it out because it's uh
- 10:02somebody somebody said I didn't know it was this location but Everpeak Hospitality, right?
- 10:06Uh I'm new here so I don't really know what's gotcha yeah so yeah I'll just call them.
- 10:15Yeah that's that's probably good just just to be clear like I'm not trying to cause any problems
- 10:20it's just like it's 10 11 o'clock now so yeah yeah okay thank you. So the hotel clerk goes
- 10:29into the back supposedly to call the quote owner comes back out and says well nobody answered
- 10:35couldn't get him and denied the supposed agent the rooms. Hilton Hotels took action shortly after
- 10:44separating the individual hotel from their network. In a statement they said a recent video
- 10:49clearly raises concerns that they are not meeting our standards and values. Hilton said in a
- 10:55statement as such we're taking immediate action to remove this hotel from our systems. Hilton is
- 11:00and always has been a welcoming place for all. Hampton and Lakeville-Peerster have been removed
- 11:05from Hilton's website. It's not your fault that losing weight is getting harder and harder.

- 12:12bring this story up but I couldn't help myself I had to. All right so here's the story let's
- 12:17talk for a minute about Washington D.C. this week that had House Republicans laughing the media
- 12:23clutching its pearls the mainstream media that is and half the country nodding along saying yeah
- 12:28that's kind of the point. So what's the story? Well it's about President Trump speaking at the
- 12:33House GOP policy retreat on Tuesday. He went off script a bit and did what only Donald Trump does
- 12:40he acted something out specifically the president decided to make his case against transgender
- 12:47athletes competing in women's sports not with white paper not with a policy memo but with a
- 12:53physical demonstration and whether you loved it hated it or rolled your eyes it landed exactly
- 12:59where he wanted it to land. I'm only sorry that you can't see this but I'm gonna let you listen in
- 13:06and you see I want to be more but I have somebody watching
- 13:11I want to be more effusive I want to really yeah but she gets in it
- 13:18and
- 13:24dropped the thing walks off the stage crying her mother's crying her father's
- 13:29guy gets up he said have you lifted before a little bit and he walks up being
- 13:38he could have gone ding ding I think it was 112 pounds huh it's crazy. All right so what you were
- 13:46just listening to was the president imitating a female weightlifter and he was straining he was
- 13:54shaking he was fighting to get the bar up making all kind of faces noises exaggerated to struggle
- 14:01and he painted a pretty clear picture then he switched roles suddenly he's playing the transgender
- 14:08competitor casually walking up lifting your weights with ease and strolling off like it was nothing
- 14:14and he looked at the room and he said essentially this is crazy. Now here's the thing this wasn't
- 14:20subtle it wasn't refined it definitely wasn't something you'd see in a political science
- 14:24textbook uh it was unmistakably Donald Trump. Strip away the imitation the jokes the theatrics
- 14:32and what the president was doing was highlighting a reality that a lot of Americans
- 14:37understand instinctively men and women are biologically different period end of sentence
- 14:43those differences matter especially in sports and pretending otherwise doesn't make it fair
- 14:50this isn't about hating anyone it's not about denying dignity it's not about mocking people
- 14:56for who they are it's about sports and competition women train their entire lives for these moments
- 15:03championships scholarships records medals when biological males enter those competitions
- 15:11the playing field isn't just tilted it's fundamentally changed that's not a conservative
- 15:18talking point that's just basic physics and the president knows this is one of those issues
- 15:24where Washington elites might squirm but parents athletes and everyday voters quietly say
- 15:33he's right he's right about this now one moment that actually stood out wasn't the
- 15:38imitation itself it was what president Trump said about the first lady he told the room that Melania
- 15:45hates when he does stuff like this she thinks it's unpresidential he said she doesn't like
- 15:51the dancing she doesn't like the impersonations and the president said I did become president
- 15:57that matters because it shows something important this isn't Trump being unaware uh this is Trump
- 16:03being intentional he knows it breaks the quorum he knows the media is going to explode and he does
- 16:10it anyway he even knows that it's not pleasing to the first lady and he does it anyway because
- 16:16he believes the message connects with voters more than polished restraint ever could that's been
- 16:23Donald Trump's political superpower from day one Democrats have never fully resolved their
- 16:30internal conflict on transgender participation in women's sports you can hear it when they talk
- 16:36you can see it in polling you can feel it in how carefully they word the answers because deep down
- 16:44many of them know the public isn't where activist groups are female athletes don't want to lose
- 16:50scholarships or records schools don't want lawsuits and yet activist pressure
- 16:57keeps pushing institutions to pretend biology doesn't exist Trump taps into that frustration
- 17:05not with a spreadsheet but again with a story people immediately understand now it's not an
- 17:11accident that Riley Gaines a former collegiate swimmer who has lived this issue firsthand
- 17:17immediately praised Trump she posted the clip and said no I don't regret my vote this is perfect
- 17:24now why because for athletes like Riley Gaines this isn't abstract it's very personal to her
- 17:34she trained she competed just like a lot of other young women have trained and competed
- 17:39and have lost opportunities not because they weren't good enough but because the rules changed
- 17:43midstream in the middle of the game and when politicians refuse to even acknowledge that
- 17:49reality frustration turns into anger and President Donald Trump gave voice to that
- 17:58this isn't about theater the president followed words with action last year after returning to
- 18:04office he signed an executive order tying Title IX enforcement to biological sex warning schools
- 18:10that allowing biological males into women's sports or locker rooms could cost them their
- 18:15federal funding that's not symbolic that's just using the his bully pulpit and it sends a message
- 18:22to schools you don't have to be activists you don't have to choose ideology over fairness
- 18:27the federal government has your back if you follow the law as written they're going to cover you and
- 18:33this is where commentators sometimes miss the point they assume moments like this only appeal
- 18:38to Trump's base but this issue cuts much wider you've got suburban parents who voted democrat
- 18:45in in the past but are uncomfortable with where the democrat party has now gone you've got
- 18:51independents who don't want culture wars but also want common sense they don't want common sense
- 18:57thrown out the window you've got young women asking why their hard work suddenly doesn't matter
- 19:04and president trump did not invent this issue he's just reacting to it and he's doing it in a way
- 19:11that bypasses elite language and goes straight to kitchen table understanding go straight to the
- 19:17family was it polished no was it presidential by old school standards uh definitely not was it
- 19:24effective i think so and that's the reason you have donald trump doing the things that he does
- 19:30sometimes that yes are a little unpresidential on the text line texture said joey this tells me
- 19:38right off the bat that hilton hotels may be employing a ton of illegal immigrants and by
- 19:43having ice there they didn't want to have a bunch of you know shows looks like ice needs to start
- 19:48with the hilton chain hotels for all the illegals they're looking for uh maybe right but but i want
- 19:54us to be careful here because and not apply this to the hilton brand necessarily because
- 20:02hilton immediately well not immediately but soon soon after this uh became a real news item
- 20:10they stripped that local uh hotel from the hilton brand that hotel is no longer part of the hilton
- 20:18brand and that's a big thing for a hotel operator to lose they're going to have to take those
- 20:24hampton in signs and and that that imaging off uh hilton has already removed them from their
- 20:29website so that says something appreciate your text text or welcome as our emails joey joey
- 20:35hudson.com all right let's talk new york city for a minute because the new mayor hasn't even
- 20:41had time to rearrange the furniture and already we're getting a pretty clear picture of where
- 20:48this administration wants to go mayor zoran mobdani has appointed a long-time housing activist
- 20:57cia weaver to run the city's office to protect tenants that title in itself the office to
- 21:04protect tenants should raise the hair on the back of your neck and almost immediately some of her
- 21:10old social media posts and past comments have started circulating and they've raised more than
- 21:16a few eyebrows one tweet from a few years back really called people's attention weaver wrote
- 21:22that home ownership especially home ownership is a weapon of white supremacy disguised as
- 21:30wealth building policy let me let you hear her say it in her own words i think the reality is
- 21:38is that for centuries we've really treated um property as an individualized good and not a
- 21:44collective good and we are going to trend and transitioning to treating it as um a collective
- 21:51good and towards a model of shared equity will require that we think about it differently and
- 21:57it will mean that um families especially white families but some poc families who are homeowners
- 22:03as well um are gonna have a different relationship to property than than the one that we currently
- 22:10have now that's a pretty strong straight statement it's not exactly something you expect
- 22:16to hear from someone now running housing policy in the largest city in the country is it she's
- 22:23also previously tweeted that we should elect more communists and in a video from a democrat
- 22:28socialist of america event she talked about how america has spent centuries treating property
- 22:34as an individual good she that's she believes that she absolutely believes that owning your
- 22:39own property is a bad thing and i don't know for sure i'm gonna go out on a limb here i'm gonna say
- 22:46she's probably never owned her own home now and in other words in her mind the idea that
- 22:54owning property is something personal something individual uh in her in her own view that's
- 23:04outdated now whether you agree with her or not this matters because this is just an academic
- 23:09debate anymore this is somehow uh this is how someone now sitting inside new york city hall
- 23:17is helping shape policy that affects millions of people for now in new york city but you know how
- 23:25these ideas start to uh start to spread to other cities once they take root nobody denies new york
- 23:33has a housing problem okay they have for years rent is expensive buying a home is almost impossible
- 23:40that's real and everyone agrees something needs to be done but there's a difference between saying
- 23:46let's fix housing affordability and saying maybe the whole idea of owning property is a problem
- 23:53talk about going back uh hundreds of years that's kind of like back in the day in uh in in england
- 24:00when the king was the only one and his lords could own property the average person could never dream
- 24:06of owning their own property now for a lot of americans and not just in new york home ownership
- 24:13has been one of the few reliable ways regular people the middle class can build stability and
- 24:19long-term security just uh i'm not talking about power i'm not talking about dominance i'm talking
- 24:25about just a stable future you buy a house you raise a family you pay it off maybe someday you
- 24:32leave something behind for your kids that's been a pretty common american story across races
- 24:38across income groups across generations so when someone in government suggests
- 24:44that idea itself is suspect people understandably start asking questions
- 24:51now one reason this is getting attention nationally and the reason you and i are
- 24:55talking about it today is because again what happens in new york often sets trends
- 25:01policies get tried there language gets normalized there and then those ideas start showing up in
- 25:08other parts of the country that's why even uh people who will never live in manhattan
- 25:14or brooklyn are paying attention to this appointment and to her ideology it's not just a
- 25:21a a talk radio uh topic that that we're that's getting noticed the justice department has also
- 25:28weighed in the assistant attorney general for civil rights harmeet dillon said the doj is
- 25:34watching closely and made clear that if city policies cross constitutional or civil rights
- 25:40lines the federal government is prepared to step in that's not a threat it's more of a signal that
- 25:47this administration is being taken seriously and not everyone likes what they're hearing
- 25:53now to be fair mayor mobdani has been pretty upfront about who he is and what he believes
- 25:58he ran as a democrat socialist and he says he intends to govern that way he told us that
- 26:03in his inauguration speech nobody can accuse him of hiding it the question is how that ideology
- 26:10translates into real world policy does protecting tenants mean enforcing existing laws and cracking
- 26:16down on bad landlords most people would probably support that or does it mean rethinking ownership
- 26:24itself as this young lady seems to suggest in this old video who gets to own how much can they own
- 26:30and under what conditions those are very different conversations you agree and this is where
- 26:39i want to hear from you text me email me joeyjoeyhasn.com leave me a message
- 26:43on the mypillow message line 864-477-joey 864-477-5639 always use promo code joey when
- 26:51you go to mypillow.com and place your order take advantage of that uh 1498 standard mypillow when
- 26:57you use promo code joey leave me a message because if you own a home or hope to someday
- 27:03what does that mean to you is it about control is it about security and if you rent do you want
- 27:10better protections or do you want government deciding who owns what do you want government
- 27:16owning that apartment building that you're renting those aren't rhetorical questions
- 27:20they're real policy questions that are now very much on the table this story isn't about tweets
- 27:27from years ago just for the sake of outrage it's about understanding the mindset of the people now
- 27:36writing policy when someone tells you what they believe about property about ownership about
- 27:41wealth it's probably worth listening and taking seriously because ideas that start as theory don't
- 27:49say theoretical for long once they make it into city hall and especially new york city hall
- 27:57and always uh we're going to continue to follow this story because again this could be a very
- 28:05national uh crisis it could turn housing into a crisis more so than it is now if in fact they're
- 28:13able to do this now by the way speak while we're talking about um white privilege a harvard
- 28:21university dean has been removed after a student-run news outlet exposed social media posts
- 28:27slamming whiteness um police and advocating for looting and rioting gregory davis is his name
- 28:35former dunster house austin borough resident dean found himself in the hot seat after a harvard
- 28:41student-run news outlet called yard report resurfaced the problematic post davis was on
- 28:47leave last semester for reasons unrelated to the controversy now while harvard did not confirm that
- 28:52davis was removed for the inflammatory post fox news obtained the text from an email sent by the
- 28:57faculty deans of dunster uh confirming davis's removal it read we are writing to confirm that
- 29:03gregory davis is no longer serving as the austin borough resident dean of dunster house effective
- 29:08today we thank gregory for serving in this role and wish him and his family the best for their
- 29:14future endeavors the email message also announced that um his replacement who had served as the as
- 29:19the interim the post in question were made between 2019 and 2024 mostly on x for example
- 29:27he posted on x is almost like whiteness is a self-destructive ideology that destroys everyone
- 29:33around it by design during the 2022 tensions between police and left-wing writers uh during
- 29:40the george floyd uh days he wrote you should ask your cop friends to resign since they're racist
- 29:47and evil as rioters and looters wreaked havoc in major metropolitan areas nationwide he defended
- 29:54the chaos he also said something to keep in mind rioting and looting are parts of democracy just
- 30:00like voting and marching the people will be heard the guy is promoting violence in that same year
- 30:09around the time president trump tested positive for covet 19 davis said on x that he didn't blame
- 30:14people who wish trump ill he followed that post with a second caption but also f that guy he
- 30:20attached a meme it said if he dies he dies this guy is nuts and doesn't need to be in any school
- 30:28just before davis accepted his role as dean of dunster house in 2024 he made a post about pride
- 30:34month on instagram saying wishing everyone a great pride remember to love each other and hate
- 30:38the police uh people i don't get it i don't get these people who just hate white people

- 32:09ford.com firmanford.com governor henry mcmaster is asking legislators to spend an additional 1.1
- 32:19billion on road projects to keep up with inflation costs he announced this
- 32:25in a preview of his total budget recommendations that he'll be giving to legislators as they go
- 32:32back into session in a couple weeks this is nearly as much as legislators have spent on
- 32:38roads and bridges in the past four years combined construction costs have surged nationally in
- 32:44recent years repairs and improvements to roads and bridges haven't been spared the problem is
- 32:50especially acute in places like south carolina where fast-growing populations mean more traffic
- 32:56wear and tear on existing roads and according to news release from the governor's office
- 33:01these things have to be addressed now because they're only going to get more expensive
- 33:06the governor's full budget suggestions are expected next week when the legislature
- 33:10returns to columbia revenue estimates updated in november provided the legislature with nearly
- 33:162.5 billion in additional money to spend in the fiscal year starting july the first now notice
- 33:22how that says uh in uh an additional 2.5 in additional money to spend they ever thought
- 33:30about not spending it never thought about returning some of that by way of no income tax
- 33:36if we keep having year after year after year of a billion dollar uh surpluses don't you think we
- 33:44can get get our tax rates down um that breaks down to about 1.7 billion that the state has
- 33:53in unspent reserves and above expectation tax collections so far this year according to um
- 34:02the daily gazette so mcmaster's request would consume more than 60 percent of the one-time
- 34:12money what's considered budget surplus and with proposed reductions to the state income tax
- 34:18potentially decreasing revenue collections in the coming years the governor says it's important that
- 34:23legislators dedicate a huge chunk of that existing surplus towards fixing the roads at least he's
- 34:28thinking that maybe income tax will come down eventually in a statement he said our population
- 34:34is skyrocketing and inflation is driving up construction costs creating potential delays
- 34:39we can't make more time but we can use this new surplus money to keep road projects moving and
- 34:45on schedule revenue hasn't kept up with the cost of inflation secretary of transportation justin
- 34:50powell wrote in a december letter to the governor to illustrate his point secretary powell pointed
- 34:55to the 28 cent gas tax every driver has paid per gallon since 2022 the completion of a six-year
- 35:02phase in and you may recall that phase in we were told was going to solve all of our roads and
- 35:10bridges problems now we know that it hasn't of course we weren't convinced it would at the time
- 35:17anyway in 2017 the legislature passed a law that gradually increased the per gallon tax by 12 cents
- 35:26one penny per person per gallon could pay to say to pave 114 miles of two-lane highway
- 35:34in 2025 it could pave 87 miles according to secretary powell that's a pretty big difference
- 35:42going from 114 miles to 87 miles the governor's request would add to the nearly seven billion
- 35:48in contracted construction projects that are already underway of the approximate 1.1 billion
- 35:54request 600 million would help pay for ongoing interstate projects with those increased price
- 36:02tax 400 million would help fund repairs to the state's aging system of bridges and 150 million
- 36:09would allow new projects to move ahead without the money projects already underway could take
- 36:14years longer than anticipated powell wrote the longer a project takes the more expensive it
- 36:21becomes powell wrote as scdot has seen these delays only lead to additional cost increases
- 36:27a vicious cycle that is challenging departments across the nation as they work to deliver critical
- 36:34infrastructure now some of those existing projects that would be included uh one wouldn't
- 36:41complete the widening of i-26 between columbia and charleston to three lanes each way and if
- 36:47you've ever been to headed to charleston in the summer you know how bad that can get uh the other
- 36:53would widen the first 10 miles of i-95 from the georgia border to u.s highway 276 in jasper county
- 37:01again if you've ever been headed to hilton head in the summer you know how that's needed now the
- 37:07cost of both projects has spiked has spiked since 2022 with the 70 mile i-26 project surging from
- 37:14just over 2 billion to now 3 billion and the i-95 project going from 977 million to nearly 2.3
- 37:22billion you know you see these numbers and it makes you wonder if maybe we don't need to look
- 37:30a little more closely at these paving contractors and look look i'm a capitalist i believe in making
- 37:38money but i also know how lucrative that business can be maybe the state needs to get into the
- 37:45business of paving now i typically wouldn't say that but maybe we need our own crews out there
- 37:52paving this rather than than paying some contractor i don't know what do you think text me email me
- 37:57joeyjoeyhudson.com is that a horrible idea we got to figure out a way because i've got to believe
- 38:05there's a lot of price gouging going on from these contractors i'm probably going to hear from some
- 38:11uh another major interstate project uh carolina columbia's carolina crossroads
- 38:18saw a significant increase as well from 2.1 billion in 2022 to 2.8 billion by the end of 2025
- 38:26now all these numbers are coming from the department of transportation from from secretary
- 38:30powell uh that particular project the columbia's carolina crossroad is expected to fix the notorious
- 38:36snarl of interstate ramps more commonly called malfunction junction you know right there in
- 38:41columbia as you head into to the to the city along with funding ongoing improvements the money could
- 38:49help get two new projects off the ground according to the proposal the agency plans to eventually
- 38:54widen interstate 85 between anderson and oconee counties if you live here in the upstate you know
- 39:00that's needed uh interstate 77 between chester and rock hill uh with 75 million the agency could
- 39:07begin pre-construction design work making it easier to apply for grants that could allow
- 39:11construction to begin sooner than the anticipated earliest start date of 2035 10 years from now
- 39:18the i-77 project would widen the interstate to three lanes each way
- 39:22from south carolina highway 9 east of chester to u.s highway 21 where it already spans six
- 39:29lanes total another 75 million could pay for a study on how to improve parts of interstate 26
- 39:36interstate 85 and interstate 77 near charlotte also moving up to start date from 2035 at the
- 39:44earliest now on the north carolina side of the board of transportation officials are working
- 39:49to upgrade 11 miles of of highway including adding express lanes and reconstructing
- 39:55interchanges and bridges in an effort to reduce congestion this is according to the north carolina
- 40:00department of transportation and you know each state north carolina south carolina georgia
- 40:06has to kind of anticipate what the other is doing because that's how some of these bottlenecks are
- 40:13you have one state uh staying up to date and the other not look it's big bucks folks it's big
- 40:20dollars and again i think we should spend some time looking in to better ways of getting this done
