2:36
Speaker 4: welcome to the show now, Della, good, Kayla Young, good morning,
2:38
Speaker 4: Welcome to the show.
2:39
Speaker 6: Good morning, Happy Monday. The ground hung warned us about
2:42
Speaker 6: this snow.
2:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, well you know you had one groundhog. Punksy Tony
2:46
Speaker 4: Phil said we're gonna have more weather, and then French
2:48
Speaker 4: Greek Freddy said no, and you know mother nature going
2:51
Speaker 4: to mother Nature. She's gonna do what she wants to do. Sure,
2:54
Speaker 4: I'll talk about this of Brian Hughes a little bit
2:55
Speaker 4: later on. I think a much bigger deal this than
2:58
Speaker 4: snow is going to be the amount of moisture that
3:00
Speaker 4: we are going to get in an already water logged state. Yeah,
3:03
Speaker 4: and so eventually rain's gonna move in and we're going
3:06
Speaker 4: to have a whole lot of rain between now and
3:08
Speaker 4: next maybe next Monday or so. So but we'll talk
3:11
Speaker 4: to Brian about that a little bit later on. Any
3:14
Speaker 4: comments from you on the big super Bowl last night.
3:17
Speaker 6: I had great snacks.
3:18
Speaker 4: That's all that matters.
3:19
Speaker 6: So I was the winner, No, it was. I had
3:22
Speaker 6: a good time. Yeah, it was interesting.
3:24
Speaker 4: Well, you know, I was wrong in my prediction on
3:26
Speaker 4: Friday show. I picked Kansas City to win twenty eight
3:29
Speaker 4: twenty one. That's why I was definitely wrong about that.
3:32
Speaker 4: I think the Chiefs. And by the way, I appreciate
3:35
Speaker 4: everybody all five hundred and seventy one this sent me
3:38
Speaker 4: the mean that said the Kansas City Chiefs identified as
3:40
Speaker 4: the Dallas Cowboys. I got a lot of that, so
3:44
Speaker 4: I appreciate it. Appreciate that from everybody. But all right,
3:47
Speaker 4: so a couple of days from the big show.
3:49
Speaker 6: Yeah, Estion starts this Wednesday, everybody interim's going on.
3:53
Speaker 7: Terms start today and tomorrow and then we get into
3:55
Speaker 7: the real deal at noon on Wednesday, and then we'll
3:58
Speaker 7: have the State of the State that night. So I
4:00
Speaker 7: hope you're ready for sixty days of chaos as usual.
4:03
Speaker 4: Is it going to be sixty days of chaos in
4:05
Speaker 4: your opinion?
4:06
Speaker 6: Who knows?
4:06
Speaker 7: It has been the last four years that I've been there.
4:10
Speaker 6: So, but we'll see.
4:11
Speaker 7: We have a new governor, so I do expect it
4:13
Speaker 7: to be somewhat different this year. The legislature looks a
4:16
Speaker 7: lot different and you know, lots of new members. I
4:19
Speaker 7: think there's like thirty or forty new members total, and
4:22
Speaker 7: new governor.
4:23
Speaker 6: This is my first new governor, so okay.
4:25
Speaker 4: Okay, yeah. And one thing about Governor Morrissey, I think,
4:29
Speaker 4: and this is not necessarily a criticism, it's just, you know,
4:33
Speaker 4: I can't stand the term. It is what it is,
4:35
Speaker 4: but it is what it is. I think he's probably
4:37
Speaker 4: going to have a bigger presence around the Capitol than
4:39
Speaker 4: what the previous governor did. Would you agree with that?
4:41
Speaker 6: I would agree with that.
4:41
Speaker 7: It seems as such, he seems to be a lot
4:43
Speaker 7: more transparent and you know, there and he came from
4:46
Speaker 7: government in his last job, and so he kind of
4:49
Speaker 7: knows the lay of the land, which I appreciate honestly.
4:52
Speaker 4: So, you know, Governor Morrissey's been in charge for a
4:56
Speaker 4: couple of weeks now, early on. Any any thoughts from
4:58
Speaker 4: you on the administration so far.
5:00
Speaker 6: I mean, he got straight to work.
5:02
Speaker 7: I appreciate that he's doing pressers quite frequently and that
5:05
Speaker 7: he's open to answering questions and talking to folks. I
5:07
Speaker 7: haven't met with him yet, so I don't have a
5:09
Speaker 7: huge personal opinion thus far. You know, I think some
5:12
Speaker 7: of the stuff I'm really excited about. Some of it
5:14
Speaker 7: I think is a bit of a waste of time.
5:16
Speaker 4: So we'll see what's a waste of time in your opinion.
5:18
Speaker 7: I mean, I think a lot of stuff that's mirrored
5:20
Speaker 7: from the federal level. I'm excited about the administrative stuff
5:23
Speaker 7: to go through and see what we're spending our money on.
5:26
Speaker 7: Kind of the audit portion and streamlining government I think
5:29
Speaker 7: is a really good thing. And we're doing that and
5:31
Speaker 7: walking into and gum at the same time, unlike the
5:33
Speaker 7: federal government, and so I'm.
5:36
Speaker 6: I'm excited about that piece. The social stuff, I couldn't
5:38
Speaker 6: care less.
5:39
Speaker 4: Do you anticipate under this governor or maybe I should
5:42
Speaker 4: say under this legislature because you mentioned the number of
5:45
Speaker 4: new folks that are going to be in of course
5:46
Speaker 4: there's a new leader over on the Senate side. Are
5:48
Speaker 4: you anticipating there will be more focus on social issues
5:52
Speaker 4: the hot button topics.
5:53
Speaker 7: Or yeah, that's what a lot of the members have
5:55
Speaker 7: made very clear. Are their issues same as the last
5:57
Speaker 7: few years though, right, I think there's a large person
5:59
Speaker 7: of people that either don't like government at all or
6:02
Speaker 7: just want to do social issues. But we always end up,
6:05
Speaker 7: you know, the stuff that's most of the stuff that's
6:06
Speaker 7: in the headlines. Most of our time is spent doing
6:09
Speaker 7: very boring things like making sure you still have roads
6:11
Speaker 7: and schools and all those guys.
6:13
Speaker 4: And a lot of times, a lot of time is
6:15
Speaker 4: spent actually getting along that's right, with the Republicans in
6:18
Speaker 4: the Americans that again, you know, and being a member
6:20
Speaker 4: of the media, we take we take the blame for
6:22
Speaker 4: that because it doesn't the things that you're working on
6:25
Speaker 4: with with Republicans and so on, doesn't necessarily get the headlines.
6:29
Speaker 4: But it happens a lot.
6:30
Speaker 6: It does happen a lot.
6:30
Speaker 7: I've spoken to Republicans this morning already about some legislation,
6:33
Speaker 7: so it happens a lot.
6:35
Speaker 4: What are you looking forward to with the State of
6:37
Speaker 4: the State Wednesday night, Delegate.
6:38
Speaker 7: I'm just excited to see how different it's going to be. Honestly,
6:41
Speaker 7: I'm hopeful. I hope to hear some stuff about energy.
6:44
Speaker 7: I hope to hear I'd love to hear about childcare
6:46
Speaker 7: and how we can help reform our CPS system to
6:48
Speaker 7: make it better for kids around West Virginia. I just
6:50
Speaker 7: want to make West Virginia a great place.
6:53
Speaker 4: Talking again with Delate Kayla Young the Dave Island showing

7:15
Speaker 4: journey towards better health today. I'm going to have a
7:17
Speaker 4: state Treasurre Larry Pack delegate on immediately after you. And
7:20
Speaker 4: there seems to be some, I guess, discrepancy between the
7:23
Speaker 4: budget numbers that the former governor now Senator Jim Justice
7:27
Speaker 4: touted and what now Governor Morrissey is saying. And you know,
7:32
Speaker 4: and Treasurer Pack was kind of a kind of in
7:35
Speaker 4: the middle of all that, and I'll have him on
7:36
Speaker 4: to talk about it. But so where are you on
7:38
Speaker 4: all this on the on the budget numbers.
7:40
Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I hope we're not all over the
7:41
Speaker 7: place that we could just look at the numbers and
7:43
Speaker 7: go from there altogether. But it seems like Justice was
7:46
Speaker 7: saying we were having a surplus in the current year
7:49
Speaker 7: budget and then now Morrissey's saying we're going to have
7:52
Speaker 7: a huge default in the future year's budget. A lot
7:56
Speaker 7: of those are moneies we knew were coming, like the
7:58
Speaker 7: Hope Scholarship, our school voucher program, which is going to
8:01
Speaker 7: cost at least an additional one hundred and twenty five
8:03
Speaker 7: million dollars. The big deal, I think is that this
8:06
Speaker 7: is the first year of a budget where we haven't
8:08
Speaker 7: had an influx of money from Washington, DC thanks to
8:11
Speaker 7: COVID funding this is our first COVID for year, and
8:13
Speaker 7: with a lot of our COVID funding we did one
8:15
Speaker 7: time spending that we're now going to have to continue
8:18
Speaker 7: to pay for. You know, more things We've got to
8:20
Speaker 7: pay for that we didn't in the past because we
8:23
Speaker 7: had that influx of billions of federal dollars that just
8:26
Speaker 7: aren't there. And so yeah, there's a lot of stuff
8:28
Speaker 7: we're gonna have to pay for, which means we're gonna
8:30
Speaker 7: have to make a lot of cuts.
8:31
Speaker 6: So I'm not excited about that.
8:33
Speaker 7: I don't know how we're going to do that with
8:35
Speaker 7: the proposed pay raises that the governor also mentioned that
8:38
Speaker 7: I'm fully in support of, but I don't know how
8:40
Speaker 7: we can do that and be fiscally responsible at the
8:42
Speaker 7: same time. We've had a flat budget for years, which
8:45
Speaker 7: once you factor in inflation and you know the cost
8:48
Speaker 7: of having to get new stuff all the time, whether
8:50
Speaker 7: it be new technology or just paying for people's health insurance,
8:54
Speaker 7: we haven't raised the amount of money that we've been
8:57
Speaker 7: investing in our systems, and so we have a lot
9:00
Speaker 7: to pay for.
9:02
Speaker 4: You mentioned earlier childcare, and I know this is something
9:05
Speaker 4: that you're very passionate about childcare, child issues in general,
9:08
Speaker 4: the foster foster care system. Are you hopeful that we
9:11
Speaker 4: can we could make some headway here.
9:13
Speaker 7: I am hopeful, And it's a totally bipartisan issue that
9:16
Speaker 7: we've been working on it for a few years and
9:17
Speaker 7: there's a lot to do. We have a lot of
9:19
Speaker 7: members of the legislature who are foster parents, have a
9:22
Speaker 7: great perspective on it, and so they bring a lot
9:24
Speaker 7: to the table. I'm actually working on a bill with
9:26
Speaker 7: Paris Hilton in the state to work on reforming some of.
9:29
Speaker 4: Our appayment Paris Hilton, Yeah, the Paris, the Paris Hilton.
9:34
Speaker 6: Yeah, just got a bill.
9:35
Speaker 7: She got a bill passed in Congress, bipartisan, almost unanimous
9:38
Speaker 7: in Congress in December of you know, this past year.
9:41
Speaker 7: And now she's at the state level. She was at
9:43
Speaker 7: the state level, then went to Congress, and now I
9:45
Speaker 7: was back at the states trying to get some stuff
9:46
Speaker 7: that passed for more transparency because she was put in
9:49
Speaker 7: a facility when she was a child that was abusive,
9:52
Speaker 7: a neglect full and so she's trying to make sure
9:54
Speaker 7: it doesn't happen to other kids. And West Virginia actually
9:56
Speaker 7: has a really high rate of this happening, and so
9:58
Speaker 7: we're trying to tackle it, and I've got by artists
10:00
Speaker 7: and support.
10:00
Speaker 4: I had no idea about that about Paris Hilton, of course,
10:03
Speaker 4: I'm not necessarily mean.
10:05
Speaker 7: Yeah, there's a documentary kind of those like scared Straight
10:07
Speaker 7: places that they used to have in West Virginia has
10:10
Speaker 7: a pretty pretty bad past with that, between that and
10:13
Speaker 7: boarding schools, and so we've got a lot of work
10:15
Speaker 7: to do in that area. But we're we're hopefully going
10:17
Speaker 7: to get it done. So I'm hopeful to see some
10:19
Speaker 7: CPS reform this year.
10:21
Speaker 4: Before we let you go, I'm gonna go ahead and
10:23
Speaker 4: just throw this out there to you and say, you know,
10:26
Speaker 4: obviously you can do math, and you know that you
10:28
Speaker 4: don't have a lot of numbers. Yeah, does that make
10:30
Speaker 4: it more difficult, But as you said, you're one that's
10:33
Speaker 4: willing to reach across the aisle. But I mean, you know,
10:35
Speaker 4: you don't have a lot of you don't have a
10:36
Speaker 4: lot of support as far as as.
10:38
Speaker 7: Fellow dim So my caucus has nine in it in
10:40
Speaker 7: the House. It does make it really hard to do things,
10:42
Speaker 7: and the rules constantly changed to make it even harder
10:45
Speaker 7: for us to do things. Because once we realized we
10:47
Speaker 7: can get something over on them, they change the rules
10:49
Speaker 7: so we can't and something over on Yeah, honestly, I
10:51
Speaker 7: mean so, I mean like they're not gonna They're going
10:53
Speaker 7: to propose that we can't have signs anymore where we
10:55
Speaker 7: hold up a picture of a child that's died due
10:58
Speaker 7: to a law that we had, so that that's one
11:00
Speaker 7: of the rules that they're going to change. That's gonna
11:01
Speaker 7: be the first thing we do on Wednesday, and it's
11:03
Speaker 7: going to be a bit of a blowout, So that
11:04
Speaker 7: will be an interesting thing I explain it. So in
11:08
Speaker 7: the past few years, we realized reading through our rules,
11:11
Speaker 7: so we govern ourselves on the house floor, and so
11:14
Speaker 7: the rules didn't say anything about having any sort of
11:16
Speaker 7: props or signs. So one year I started it by
11:19
Speaker 7: bringing a picture of my son because I was talking
11:21
Speaker 7: about the water crisis and he was an infant, so
11:23
Speaker 7: I just wanted to display that. So then over the
11:25
Speaker 7: years we've had signs. We've had some members bring graphs
11:28
Speaker 7: of different things. There was a graph about unemployment and
11:31
Speaker 7: our rates and pertaining to a bill. So now this
11:34
Speaker 7: year there's a proposed rule that says we can't have
11:36
Speaker 7: any signs in there, meaning the members.
11:38
Speaker 4: Can't have any signs people in the crowd.
11:40
Speaker 6: No, they won't be able to either.
11:41
Speaker 7: Nobody will be able to have signed They already weren't allowed, okay,
11:45
Speaker 7: but we were, and so they're changing that.
11:46
Speaker 6: And I don't really understand why.
11:48
Speaker 7: But so just things like that, A lot's changing in
11:50
Speaker 7: the committee process. However, with our nine members, we do
11:53
Speaker 7: work across the aisle. We do spend most of our
11:55
Speaker 7: year playing defense. But I think it's important for you know,
11:58
Speaker 7: everybody within the capital to have a voice.
12:00
Speaker 4: Where are you on the changes? And I promise I'll
12:02
Speaker 4: let you go after this. I just keep thinking of it.
12:03
Speaker 4: Happy to be here thinking more stuff. Where are you
12:06
Speaker 4: on the changes with the committee process? When the public
12:08
Speaker 4: hearings and things of that nature, there's some changes.
12:11
Speaker 7: I'm a little worried about getting rid of the public
12:12
Speaker 7: hearings because now only the committee chair will get to
12:14
Speaker 7: say who gets to speak. And I know the intention
12:17
Speaker 7: is that for that person to hear from both sides,
12:19
Speaker 7: but they've ben a lotter real decision they don't have
12:21
Speaker 7: to do that. So I'm a little worried about that.
12:24
Speaker 7: But overall, I think it's good to be more deliberate
12:26
Speaker 7: and slow down the process.
12:27
Speaker 6: I think we absolutely need that.
12:29
Speaker 7: So kind of taking time and the taking of public
12:31
Speaker 7: testimony I think will also be really good. There's a
12:33
Speaker 7: bit more transparency this year, and I've been fighting for
12:35
Speaker 7: that for a long time, so I'm I think most
12:38
Speaker 7: of the new changes are good, not all.
12:41
Speaker 4: Deli Kay Kaylee Young. It's always a pleasure to have

12:49
Speaker 4: forget our guys are going to be at the Capital
12:51
Speaker 4: TJ and TJ is going to be there pretty much
12:54
Speaker 4: every day. I think Dave Wilson will be there a
12:56
Speaker 4: few days, so you'll have to stop buy the interview

16:10
Speaker 4: fine with your take on the country roads thing or
16:13
Speaker 4: anything related to the super Bowl.
16:14
Speaker 12: That way in on that and Lauren Daegele's singing America
16:19
Speaker 12: Beautiful was absolutely the highlight of the night for me.
16:21
Speaker 12: Both of those who are just absolutely fantastic. I'm a
16:24
Speaker 12: Pittsburgh Steeler fan. I just kind of got through the
16:26
Speaker 12: game part of it. But some of the commercials in
16:28
Speaker 12: this and again Lauren Dagele got through Rose that was amazing.
16:33
Speaker 4: I actually, and I know when it comes to the
16:35
Speaker 4: National Anthem, people get really you know, some people like
16:38
Speaker 4: different versions, some people don't. I will say that the
16:40
Speaker 4: John Bati's version of the National Anthem, I don't know,
16:42
Speaker 4: it was pretty good. It was very good. I thought
16:43
Speaker 4: it was very good, very good. I want to start
16:45
Speaker 4: with the hard stuff with you, Secretary, yes, sir, and
16:47
Speaker 4: then we'll get into other stuff. Whatever you want to
16:49
Speaker 4: talk about is a state revenue secretary, you had a
16:52
Speaker 4: firm grip I guess on the check book of the state,
16:54
Speaker 4: and you and then Governor now Senator Justice talked about
16:57
Speaker 4: the state and glowing terms financially. Governor more has kind
17:01
Speaker 4: of seen it in a little bit of a different lights.
17:04
Speaker 4: You want to weigh in on that, well, I do.
17:06
Speaker 12: I think it's I think again, it's just a matter
17:09
Speaker 12: of priorities. I like to say it's a difference of
17:12
Speaker 12: maybe the difference between my wife doing our home budget
17:15
Speaker 12: and me doing my home budget. You know, everybody defines
17:17
Speaker 12: wants and needs differently. Uh, what was you know governed
17:21
Speaker 12: justice in his eight years administration, he focused on certain things,
17:25
Speaker 12: focused on you know, on job growth, focused a lot
17:28
Speaker 12: on roads and infrastructure, on tourism.
17:31
Speaker 7: Uh.
17:31
Speaker 12: Well, we'll be able to see Wednesday night what Governor
17:33
Speaker 12: Morrisey focuses on. So I feel I feel very good
17:37
Speaker 12: that our budget, our financial situation is in good shape.
17:40
Speaker 12: We're in a really good position. But again, we'll see
17:42
Speaker 12: how he puts it all together. It's a little bit
17:43
Speaker 12: hard to see exactly what he's seen because again, how
17:48
Speaker 12: you prioritize things. Anytime you go through a budget process,
17:51
Speaker 12: all the different agencies, I mean, there's there's a gazillion
17:54
Speaker 12: different ways to spend money, people with ideas to spend
17:57
Speaker 12: money in state, in the state capital. What we'll see
17:59
Speaker 12: when are the governor's priorities. West Virginia from a financial
18:03
Speaker 12: statement standpoint, is in really good shape, probably the best
18:06
Speaker 12: I've ever seen it in my lifetime. So we're going
18:09
Speaker 12: to be good. I look forward to seeing what governor
18:10
Speaker 12: brings brings out on Wednesday night and then we can
18:14
Speaker 12: all kind of comment on it and go forward.
18:16
Speaker 4: I'm sure you still talk with now Senator Justice. How
18:19
Speaker 4: is he doing in d C.
18:20
Speaker 12: He's loving it, absolutely loving it, working shoulder shoulder with
18:24
Speaker 12: the other Republican senators to appoint President Trump's team, working
18:30
Speaker 12: with President Trump, going to the White House, working on
18:33
Speaker 12: big issues for West Virginia. He's in a really good
18:36
Speaker 12: spot and he's really enjoyed it.
18:38
Speaker 4: Speaking of d C for a moment, it's it's been
18:41
Speaker 4: kind of a wild ride first couple of weeks with
18:44
Speaker 4: the former president now current President Donald Trump back in
18:47
Speaker 4: the White House. And I know, I know you're a
18:48
Speaker 4: big fan of his, so I take it that you're
18:50
Speaker 4: happy with what's going on with the President in this
18:53
Speaker 4: short time in office so far.
18:54
Speaker 12: Oh, I think it's just amazing. It really does show
18:56
Speaker 12: that he was prepared and he was ready. He has
19:00
Speaker 12: his team this time. When I went, my wife and
19:03
Speaker 12: I went up to inauguration, we got to meet a
19:04
Speaker 12: lot of people, a lot of the appointees for various
19:07
Speaker 12: secretary positions. These are very accomplished people, but these are
19:11
Speaker 12: not the run of the meal people. These are not
19:13
Speaker 12: the Republican Goldman sacks people versus the Democrat Goldman sacks
19:17
Speaker 12: people that we've seen in the past. These folks are
19:20
Speaker 12: our glass breakers. They're there to change things, to kind
19:24
Speaker 12: of kind of move things around a little bit and
19:26
Speaker 12: go fast. So he's appointed. I think some very accomplished
19:29
Speaker 12: people all across the federal government. They're moving so fast
19:33
Speaker 12: it's hard to keep up with. I know I'm strigging
19:35
Speaker 12: a little bit to keep up with it, but I
19:36
Speaker 12: like what I see. Of course, I'm a financial guy,
19:40
Speaker 12: so I'm kind of drawn to a lot of the
19:42
Speaker 12: dose stuff, a lot of the uncovering of just waste,
19:45
Speaker 12: wasteful spending that our taxpayers are West Virginia taxpayers, whether
19:48
Speaker 12: they're Democrats Republican, have sent money to Washington, and I
19:52
Speaker 12: think giving a good clean look at that thorough look
19:55
Speaker 12: is really really good. They're overshoot sometimes, but again they're
19:58
Speaker 12: not looking for things, you know, like to cut medicaid,
20:01
Speaker 12: to cut medicare, to soci security. They're just looking at
20:04
Speaker 12: the swamp waist and that's what they're finding. And they're
20:07
Speaker 12: finding a lot of it, and I'm absolutely enjoying it.

20:24
Speaker 4: for a moment, sir, I mean, there's a little bit
20:26
Speaker 4: of controversy here with Elon Musk, and he's he's kind
20:28
Speaker 4: of heading up this doge thing. A matter of fact,
20:30
Speaker 4: I understand that they I don't know that he's going
20:32
Speaker 4: to be there, but but there's a possibility of his
20:36
Speaker 4: folks being in Parkersburg today. Some people have kind of
20:40
Speaker 4: got a little heartburn over that, saying he's unelected and
20:43
Speaker 4: he shouldn't have access to this. Where are you on that.
20:46
Speaker 8: He's an envoy.
20:47
Speaker 12: He's an appointment of the governor over the president, right,
20:49
Speaker 12: so said the presidents. Can you know in the old days,
20:52
Speaker 12: remember where they used to point tzars for this and
20:54
Speaker 12: tzars for that. I think they're calling him an envoy,
20:56
Speaker 12: but it's just somebody that will take a fresh look
21:00
Speaker 12: about how we do government, how we spend money. I mean,
21:03
Speaker 12: only the federal government can can get us into a
21:05
Speaker 12: thirty two billion dollars thirty six billion dollar debt. Right,
21:08
Speaker 12: that's what happens when you can print money and there's
21:10
Speaker 12: no one looking, no one kind of seeing what it is.
21:12
Speaker 12: I think a big part of what they're doing is
21:14
Speaker 12: just making sure people are showing up to work. There's
21:16
Speaker 12: a lot of rumors out there that a lot of
21:18
Speaker 12: these big buildings were paying for they're absolutely empty empty.
21:21
Speaker 4: It's a lot of a lot.
21:22
Speaker 12: Of rumors where people haven't shown up for work for
21:24
Speaker 12: years and years, maybe even have other jobs. That stuff's
21:27
Speaker 12: going to be exposed. Uh, and it needs to be exposed.
21:30
Speaker 12: The people in Wood County, that's a that's a really
21:32
Speaker 12: big employer down there. But if they're not working and
21:35
Speaker 12: they're not showing up, tax person wood County don't. They
21:38
Speaker 12: don't want to pay for that. So it's going to
21:40
Speaker 12: be very interesting to see what they what they find.
21:43
Speaker 4: Uh.
21:43
Speaker 12: They probably will overshoot a few times, but President Trump
21:46
Speaker 12: will bringing back in if they if they go too
21:48
Speaker 12: far and so forth. But uh, it's going to take
21:51
Speaker 12: someone with his expertise, with his knowledge, uh, with with
21:54
Speaker 12: Elon Muss's team I think really defined this. Our government
21:58
Speaker 12: is so big that it's it takes someone. Again, I
22:01
Speaker 12: think of his his abilities to be able to help
22:03
Speaker 12: us identify waste, and if we do that, we can
22:05
Speaker 12: slow down this spending and we'll be doing a big
22:08
Speaker 12: favor for our kids and grandkids.
22:10
Speaker 4: Let's talk about West Virginia in the midst of all this.
22:13
Speaker 4: I mean again, there are, as we said that they're
22:15
Speaker 4: expected to be some folks from DOGE that are going
22:17
Speaker 4: to take a look some thing in Parkersburg. But with
22:19
Speaker 4: the tariffs and things of that nature. And again you're
22:21
Speaker 4: the financial guy, not me. So do you think that
22:24
Speaker 4: a lot of these things that the President Trump was
22:26
Speaker 4: looking at are going to be beneficial for West Virginia
22:28
Speaker 4: in the long run? Are you concerned? Where are you there?
22:30
Speaker 2: Well?
22:30
Speaker 12: I think we're watching what the tariffs are. But so
22:32
Speaker 12: much of the terriffs at this point has been to
22:35
Speaker 12: protect American jobs, right terrish or fairness. He sunds to
22:39
Speaker 12: me like he wants to make sure if we're paying
22:42
Speaker 12: tariffs to some kind to a country, they're paying an
22:44
Speaker 12: equal amount and mount to us. But it's all about
22:46
Speaker 12: putting in America first some of us in negotiations. So
22:49
Speaker 12: he's trying to get these countries to play fair with
22:53
Speaker 12: you with the United States. So we have to see
22:56
Speaker 12: how it all shakes out and kind of watch what happens.
22:59
Speaker 12: But you can see how in his negotiation with Canada
23:02
Speaker 12: and uh, Mexico, how that was basically part of a negotiation.
23:05
Speaker 12: Seemed like you got worked out fairly, fairly quickly. So
23:08
Speaker 12: President Trump was just one to move. Uh. He's worked
23:11
Speaker 12: really through this last four years to get ready for
23:13
Speaker 12: this time. I feel like he's making really good moves,
23:15
Speaker 12: but I have to meet some of it. Uh, We're
23:17
Speaker 12: gonna have to wait and let it shake out a
23:19
Speaker 12: little bit.
23:20
Speaker 8: Again.
23:20
Speaker 4: We're talking with State Treasurer Larry Pack, So let's let's
23:23
Speaker 4: focus on your office. You got some uh what I mean,
23:27
Speaker 4: you're getting, You're getting in, you're getting settled into the
23:29
Speaker 4: into the new role as a state treasurer. Just tell
23:32
Speaker 4: us about them, Yes, sir, it's it's been.
23:34
Speaker 12: It's really been a whirl where in the last the
23:35
Speaker 12: last month to go from working for Governor Justice in
23:39
Speaker 12: the Governor's office, it seems like we're going on a
23:41
Speaker 12: lot of different directions to transition to the Treasure's office.
23:45
Speaker 12: But we've got a really good team. I'm very thankful
23:47
Speaker 12: for a treasure more and the team he's put together
23:50
Speaker 12: really and luck and I have to give a shout
23:52
Speaker 12: out also to to Treasure Purdue. A lot of people
23:55
Speaker 12: are there from Treasure Purdue, so it's a really good team.
23:57
Speaker 12: I'm learning, uh what they're working on, trying to add
24:00
Speaker 12: value in different places. I'm very excited to be there.
24:04
Speaker 12: It definitely fits my uh uh fits my expertise, and
24:09
Speaker 12: so we're having a lot of fun with it. It's
24:11
Speaker 12: we're about two hundred and two hundred fifty strong, so
24:14
Speaker 12: we kind of we kind of I think, punch above
24:17
Speaker 12: our weight, but of really looking forward to it. One
24:20
Speaker 12: of the things I'd like to announce today is that
24:23
Speaker 12: as Chairman of the State Board of Public State Board
24:27
Speaker 12: of Treasury Investments, I plan to urge the Board to
24:29
Speaker 12: approve a policy that would invest funds from Chinese own companies.
24:33
Speaker 2: Uh.
24:33
Speaker 12: That's something that you know. We will make sure that
24:35
Speaker 12: our citizens can know that we're they can trust our
24:37
Speaker 12: office to make sure we're making the right decisions. But
24:40
Speaker 12: we need we in West Virginia need to take a
24:42
Speaker 12: stand against investing in countries that are considered bad actors.
24:46
Speaker 12: China definitely fits that bill, and like President Trump, I
24:49
Speaker 12: plan on putting American industry in West Virginia first. Investing
24:53
Speaker 12: in China is just good policy. So we have a
24:56
Speaker 12: meeting on February twenty fifth, and at that meeting, I
24:59
Speaker 12: plan on making a motion to prove a prohibited foreign
25:02
Speaker 12: investment policy. And basically, if there's a company that is
25:06
Speaker 12: owned by the People's Republic of China, the Chinese Communist Party,
25:10
Speaker 12: or the Chinese military will be prohibited from investing state
25:14
Speaker 12: funds in that The Bureau of Treasury Investments is the
25:18
Speaker 12: short term arm of the investments for the States. So
25:22
Speaker 12: we got about ten and a half billion dollars of
25:24
Speaker 12: state tax payer money on that in that so we look,
25:28
Speaker 12: this is the first step of a two step process.
25:31
Speaker 12: In July, become the chairman of the Investment Management Board.
25:34
Speaker 12: Investment Management Board they invest the long term part of
25:39
Speaker 12: the state's investments, think mostly pension funds. So when I've
25:42
Speaker 12: become chairman in July, we start working with that group.
25:46
Speaker 12: We've always had some discussions and see that we can't
25:48
Speaker 12: institute a similar policy there. But it's all about protecting
25:51
Speaker 12: our assets, protecting taxpayer's assets, make sure that we're investing
25:55
Speaker 12: in properly and that we're not investing people that are
25:57
Speaker 12: working against our way of life.
25:59
Speaker 4: You anticipate that be any pushback on this from anyone?
26:02
Speaker 4: I don't think so.
26:03
Speaker 2: Man.
26:03
Speaker 12: You know, board members when we come, whether you're a
26:06
Speaker 12: board member the Bureau Treasure Investments or the Investment Management Board,
26:10
Speaker 12: you know we have a fiduciary duty to make sure
26:12
Speaker 12: that we're being prudent investors. But I think is a
26:14
Speaker 12: really good case to not invest in companies owned by
26:18
Speaker 12: the Chinese Communist Party. I think again, it's good policy,
26:22
Speaker 12: and I think we'll get through that.
26:24
Speaker 6: Again.
26:24
Speaker 12: We've we've had discussions in both boards for for for months,
26:28
Speaker 12: so this is not will not be a surprise, but
26:30
Speaker 12: we'll be very prudent about it. Will take your time,
26:33
Speaker 12: make sure we get to write policy in place.
26:35
Speaker 4: It's treasure Larry Pack. It's always a pleasure to have
26:37
Speaker 4: you on the show. I appreciate you do let's stop

29:22
Speaker 4: from Storm Track of thirteen. Good morning, sir, how are you.
29:25
Speaker 16: I'm doing great on this post Super Bowl Monday, except
29:29
Speaker 16: in fact my chief's loss.
29:30
Speaker 3: But I thought they were probably going to do anyways,
29:32
Speaker 3: Oh so.
29:32
Speaker 4: You actually predicted Kansas City to lose? I did not, well,
29:37
Speaker 4: you know, as.
29:38
Speaker 16: Much as I want to pull from my boy Patrick Mahomes,
29:40
Speaker 16: who is a Texas Tech graduate and a you see,
29:44
Speaker 16: you know, I had like GPA of three point eight. Anyways,
29:48
Speaker 16: you know, I just knew that watching the Eagles two
29:51
Speaker 16: weeks ago, I was like Oh, this is not the
29:53
Speaker 16: team we want to face.
29:54
Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, nobody was playing better in the NFL
29:56
Speaker 4: than what the Eagles were the last five six weeks
29:58
Speaker 4: of the season.
29:59
Speaker 16: Nobody, right, and congrats to them. So anyways, I'm also
30:06
Speaker 16: a lines fan. I was there for the and sixteen season.
30:09
Speaker 3: I get youd every home game.
30:11
Speaker 4: All right, So what is this? I mean, here's the
30:13
Speaker 4: thing about this particular weather system, Brian. I mean, like
30:15
Speaker 4: back in January, for example, everybody knew was coming, you know,
30:18
Speaker 4: with the ice and snow, and we suffered through that.
30:22
Speaker 7: Uh.
30:22
Speaker 4: But this is a little bit different because every model
30:25
Speaker 4: that I've seen, and I'm a bit of a weather geek,
30:27
Speaker 4: every model that I have seen is predicting something different.
30:30
Speaker 4: Even all the stations are predicting something different. So what
30:35
Speaker 4: say you, weather guy?
30:37
Speaker 16: Believe me, I've watched I've seen a couple of the
30:39
Speaker 16: other things.
30:40
Speaker 3: The other things put out. I'm like, are you kidding me?
30:43
Speaker 3: Here's the deal.
30:44
Speaker 16: We need to proceed with caution on this because when
30:48
Speaker 16: you start on Tomorrow morning and you see it snowing
30:51
Speaker 16: outside and it's gonna snow pretty heavy at a certain
30:54
Speaker 16: point for maybe an hour or two, you're gonna go, oh,
30:57
Speaker 16: this day's ruined. It's need to go out, and then
31:01
Speaker 16: all of a sudden, the rain starts and you're like, oh,
31:02
Speaker 16: I guess I can go out today.
31:04
Speaker 3: That's the that's what's going to be happening tomorrow as
31:07
Speaker 3: we have.
31:08
Speaker 16: These snow showers that move in as we go into
31:11
Speaker 16: you know, about seven ish. Matter of fact, actually, as
31:14
Speaker 16: I look at the forecast model that just came in
31:18
Speaker 16: here within the last two hours, I mean, once we
31:21
Speaker 16: get to you know, seven.
31:23
Speaker 3: Am tomorrow morning, the snow line.
31:25
Speaker 16: Is just right on our doorsteps starting to work at
31:27
Speaker 16: Swaynetokinaal County. By nine o'clock, I mean, we've got some
31:31
Speaker 16: pretty good snow.
31:32
Speaker 3: By ten o'clock gets.
31:32
Speaker 16: Fine, the rains starting to mix in, and then the
31:35
Speaker 16: rain takes over for the rest of the day, especially
31:37
Speaker 16: for the warm wedge, which you know, myself, Spencer Atkins, Krisal,
31:43
Speaker 16: Joe fitz Water, we were all teching back and forth,
31:44
Speaker 16: and you know, I straight said, the wedge wins again today,
31:48
Speaker 16: you know, or of Tuesday.
31:48
Speaker 3: Boys. So that's just periods in the story. Everybody's like, yep, sure.
31:52
Speaker 16: Is so by ten am tomorrow the rain starts to
31:55
Speaker 16: mix in and then we're done with the snow for
31:58
Speaker 16: you know, as far as accumulating for the rest of
32:01
Speaker 16: the day into the night time hours.
32:02
Speaker 4: So how is it, though, that all that? I mean again,
32:04
Speaker 4: I'm not I'm not trying to cause the weather war here, okay,
32:08
Speaker 4: but but I mean, how is it that? I mean,
32:10
Speaker 4: I just looked at the forecast from the National Weather
32:13
Speaker 4: Service and it says for Charleston up to eight inches
32:15
Speaker 4: of snow. Three to eight at their five to eight
32:17
Speaker 4: I think is what it said. So but but I mean,
32:21
Speaker 4: how can everybody look at something and come come up
32:23
Speaker 4: with a different conclusion.
32:24
Speaker 16: Well, and here's here's the deal that I'm gonna say
32:28
Speaker 16: this right now that might be actually in legacy text
32:30
Speaker 16: that should.
32:30
Speaker 3: Not be there right now, ok because.
32:33
Speaker 16: I always say that because their new models are now
32:36
Speaker 16: in line with what we are we are saying as
32:40
Speaker 16: of this morning, which is Charleston's total, we'll probably end
32:44
Speaker 16: up somewhere around one to two inches at.
32:46
Speaker 4: Best, one to two inches at best, says Brian Hughes.
32:50
Speaker 16: At best, one to two inches at best, And that's
32:52
Speaker 16: going to be a slushy snow because you know you're
32:54
Speaker 16: gonna have that snow that'll happen.
32:55
Speaker 3: That'll snow between seven.
32:58
Speaker 16: And you know, ten o'clock in the morning and then
33:00
Speaker 16: by tennants switching over to rain, and that rain is
33:02
Speaker 16: gonna take over.
33:03
Speaker 3: So and that wedge is gonna win all the way.
33:06
Speaker 16: Up to Clarksburg, where it'll be a slushy one to
33:08
Speaker 16: two inches almost the Clarksburg.
33:10
Speaker 4: And it's not gonna be really cold enough from what
33:12
Speaker 4: I understand in watching you this morning for us to
33:15
Speaker 4: worry about like a hard refreeze or something later in
33:17
Speaker 4: the night. Is that correct.
33:19
Speaker 16: Yeah, We're not gonna have anything that's gonna be you know,
33:22
Speaker 16: anything that's gonna refreeze.
33:24
Speaker 3: It's cause ice.
33:25
Speaker 16: Problems in our area. The only thing that'll be icing
33:28
Speaker 16: will be Greenbrier Valley and that's gonna be on Wednesday
33:31
Speaker 16: evening into the nighttime hours.
33:33
Speaker 3: But that's you know, that's so far away from us.
33:35
Speaker 16: Is really more removed than anything. But this storm is
33:39
Speaker 16: more bark than it is bite.
33:40
Speaker 3: A matter of fact, that was just in my morning
33:42
Speaker 3: meeting with.
33:42
Speaker 16: The Newsest Department, I said, bark is a loud bite
33:45
Speaker 16: is not much on this. But I'm concerned as a
33:49
Speaker 16: collective hole about the amount of moisture that we're going
33:51
Speaker 16: to be getting because we'll see, you know, an inch
33:55
Speaker 16: Mersey rain maybe out of this here a half inch
33:57
Speaker 16: to an inch. But then you add up it's going
34:00
Speaker 16: to happen, you know, going into Wednesday and in this weekend,
34:03
Speaker 16: and that's just a lot more water that we do
34:05
Speaker 16: not need.
34:05
Speaker 4: I mean, that seems to be the bigger issue here.
34:07
Speaker 4: Is that not necessarily the snow, but the amount of moisture,
34:10
Speaker 4: you know, with the rain and everything. Because we've had
34:12
Speaker 4: a whole lot brain.
34:13
Speaker 16: Oh man, listen, when I can, when I can stand
34:16
Speaker 16: in the pilot house in my boat and look down
34:18
Speaker 16: upon my street, we have problems, all right.
34:20
Speaker 3: So that's what I'm looking at.
34:21
Speaker 4: So again, give us the timeline tomorrow morning, because I
34:24
Speaker 4: know a lot of folks like myself, we hit the road.
34:26
Speaker 4: You know, I leave my house around seven or so
34:28
Speaker 4: in the morning. Maybe pran on leaving a little bit earlier,
34:30
Speaker 4: or is it even going to create an problems on that?
34:31
Speaker 16: I would think that I would think that tomorrow, you
34:34
Speaker 16: leaving at seven or even maybe you know at seven
34:37
Speaker 16: to seven thirty, you're going to be fine getting into
34:40
Speaker 16: work eight.
34:41
Speaker 3: To nine o'clock.
34:42
Speaker 16: That's when snow will be at its quote unquote heaviest
34:44
Speaker 16: and worse. But you know that's when we're going to
34:48
Speaker 16: have you know, it's starting to pile up within by
34:50
Speaker 16: nineteen o'clock we start to see that transition over to
34:52
Speaker 16: rain shower. So if you want to go out for
34:54
Speaker 16: lunch at noon, you have no fear it's going to
34:56
Speaker 16: be just wet.
34:57
Speaker 4: All right, Brian, appreciate you man, Thanks a lot.
35:00
Speaker 3: Absolutely, have a great day.

35:30
Speaker 4: w's here. It's Danny Jones. How you doing, man, I'm
35:33
Speaker 4: doing fun all right, we'll get to you in just
35:34
Speaker 4: one second. Sexast saying the stadium or even half of
35:38
Speaker 4: the stadium was singing country roads. It's a bit indulgent.
35:41
Speaker 4: The multiple camera shots showed most people talking to each
35:44
Speaker 4: other as a handful saying the West Virginia national anthem
35:49
Speaker 4: Texas Larry Pack wants to divest from China. Larry Pack
35:52
Speaker 4: wants to continue to kill the coal industry, says A
35:56
Speaker 4: texture tex says this pack think our vets are suckers, losers,
36:00
Speaker 4: and it's okay to sexually assault women. It's a texture.
36:04
Speaker 4: West Virginia says, A texture is going has done great
36:06
Speaker 4: under Biden. Lots of good jobs came here. What's Trumps?
36:10
Speaker 4: What Trump is doing is going to do cost West
36:12
Speaker 4: Virginia call jobs? All right? Hey man, how you doing?
36:17
Speaker 7: Dan?
36:18
Speaker 17: You got some Trump vaders texting this show?
36:22
Speaker 4: I do, I do, I just I don't. I don't know.
36:24
Speaker 4: There are nameless people, Danny. They they just text the
36:27
Speaker 4: show and I just I just read it, man, I
36:29
Speaker 4: just read it.
36:30
Speaker 17: Yeah, Well, Larry Pack doesn't approve of any of that. Well,
36:34
Speaker 17: I mean saying that Dry's one of my closest friends.
36:36
Speaker 17: I was going to say saying that.
36:37
Speaker 4: Larry Pack is somebody who's going to cost West Virginia jobs.
36:40
Speaker 4: I mean, I'd have a hard time going on with that.
36:43
Speaker 17: Trump and Musk for both disruptors. And that's what's going
36:48
Speaker 17: on now. And change is tough. Change is tough, especially
36:54
Speaker 17: big change. And that's what I say, maybe the beginning
36:58
Speaker 17: of if they go through with it, dismantled the Department of.
37:03
Speaker 4: Education, that's going to be next they see.
37:05
Speaker 17: Well, I went to school when there wasn't any Department
37:08
Speaker 17: of Education, and now there's a disproportionate number of eighth
37:13
Speaker 17: graders in our country that can't read. And that's with
37:18
Speaker 17: the Department of Education. So I'm what's missing here. And
37:23
Speaker 17: plus it would save two and a half three dollars
37:26
Speaker 17: between now over ten years. And this country is broke.
37:31
Speaker 4: Don't pay attention to him. That's just TJ. Mettis. He
37:34
Speaker 4: just comes in and hangs out from time to time.
37:37
Speaker 4: So what about FEMA, Because who heard over the weekend
37:41
Speaker 4: that Trump is saying he was talking about this situation
37:44
Speaker 4: and let's face it, the response with FEMA is not
37:47
Speaker 4: always the best in the world. West Virginia will kind
37:50
Speaker 4: of a lot of a lot of listeners will we'll
37:52
Speaker 4: say the same thing. I'm not trying to totally throw
37:54
Speaker 4: them one of the bus. But when you look at California,
37:57
Speaker 4: you look at what happened in western North Carolina with
38:01
Speaker 4: the with the remnants of the hurricane, he's saying that
38:04
Speaker 4: that FEMA could be on the child of block too.
38:06
Speaker 17: What do you think there's nothing to replace it with
38:09
Speaker 17: David and my experience, I was emergency services director for
38:14
Speaker 17: Charleston for a year and FEMA was a godsend. I
38:19
Speaker 17: mean it was. It would come in, set up tables,
38:22
Speaker 17: have applications, they hire people from all over and by
38:26
Speaker 17: the way, National Travel they are the travel agency for
38:31
Speaker 17: the entire FEMA in the country. So whenever they travel,
38:35
Speaker 17: they could they go through Charleston, West Virginia. My experience
38:38
Speaker 17: is good. If it's changed, or if they need a
38:42
Speaker 17: new director or they you know, it's Trump's call.
38:45
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you would agree, Danny and you and
38:47
Speaker 4: I have talked about this in the past that Trump
38:49
Speaker 4: is somebody who thrives on chaos and he comes in
38:52
Speaker 4: and he says a lot of things, and he knows
38:55
Speaker 4: that some of them aren't going to happen. I heard
38:57
Speaker 4: it over the weekend. I think I wanted to show.
38:59
Speaker 4: Somebody said, it's like throwing spaghetti against the wall. You
39:02
Speaker 4: know it's not gonna stick, but there might be one
39:04
Speaker 4: little stain that goes down the wallpaper. Uh, you're not
39:08
Speaker 4: always the biggest Trump fan in the world. I certainly
39:10
Speaker 4: am not always the biggest Trump fan in the world.
39:12
Speaker 4: But what do you think about the hurricane Trump that's
39:14
Speaker 4: come through in the first couple of weeks.
39:15
Speaker 17: I'm not surprised. And what he's doing, David, He's occupying
39:19
Speaker 17: the space. Biden occupied no space. Trump's occupying all the space.
39:26
Speaker 17: And except for Musk, these guys are occupying. He has
39:29
Speaker 17: a press conference every day, and he does it from
39:31
Speaker 17: the Oval office, and the guy hands him an executive
39:35
Speaker 17: order to sign, tells him what's in it, and he
39:37
Speaker 17: does why, and then he takes a question from the press.
39:41
Speaker 17: I mean, there's a part of this the press has
39:43
Speaker 17: got to love because they've got something to do, and
39:46
Speaker 17: they don't and they don't have a they don't have
39:48
Speaker 17: a president in hiding.
39:50
Speaker 4: And basically, I mean that's that's what you had over
39:53
Speaker 4: because I mean you had you had Joe Biden, who
39:57
Speaker 4: wasn't out in front of the public, and then later
39:59
Speaker 4: we learned why. And then even when you look at
40:03
Speaker 4: Kamala Harris, for the longest time, she wasn't accessible to
40:07
Speaker 4: the press, even to her people in the Democratic Party saying, look,
40:10
Speaker 4: you have got to get out and talk to people.
40:12
Speaker 17: Well, it's carryo at the risk of offending somebody. She
40:17
Speaker 17: didn't say anything when she did get out. I mean,
40:20
Speaker 17: I just I was never impressed with her, and they
40:22
Speaker 17: should have put somebody else up. In my opinion, I
40:26
Speaker 17: think governor from Pennsylvania would have been a great candidate
40:30
Speaker 17: for the Democrats. A lot of people thought that, yeah,
40:32
Speaker 17: but he's probably too conservative, too practical to fracking, and
40:41
Speaker 17: quite frankly Jewish. And I think that that's the part
40:45
Speaker 17: of the Democrat Party that I'm seeing change. And it
40:50
Speaker 17: used to be the anti Semitism used to be on
40:52
Speaker 17: the right, and now part of it is on the left.
40:56
Speaker 4: Talking to former Charles the mayor, Danny Jones six says,
40:59
Speaker 4: the same people that are afraid of Doge wanted to
41:01
Speaker 4: hire eighty seven thousand additional irs agents to audit you.
41:05
Speaker 17: Yeah, I'm glad that's not going to happen. I mean,
41:09
Speaker 17: we don't we don't need any more federal employees.
41:14
Speaker 4: What do you think about Morrissey's first couple of weeks
41:16
Speaker 4: in office.
41:18
Speaker 17: I don't know who or what to believe. I mean,
41:22
Speaker 17: he seems like he's doing okay to me. I don't
41:26
Speaker 17: know about the numbers.
41:28
Speaker 4: There seems to be a description. You heard my interview
41:30
Speaker 4: I did with Larry Pack a little bit earlier, and
41:31
Speaker 4: I was at the Legislative look Ahead on Friday, which
41:34
Speaker 4: I'm going to go on talk line to talk about
41:36
Speaker 4: it a little bit later on. There seems to be
41:38
Speaker 4: I mean, on one hand, you had Governor Justice now
41:41
Speaker 4: Senator Justice, and you had Larry Pack talking about this
41:44
Speaker 4: is you know, State's in the great financial shape as
41:46
Speaker 4: it's ever been in. Then Morrissey comes in and says, well,
41:49
Speaker 4: you know, let's pump the brakes a little bit, let's
41:51
Speaker 4: hold on a little bit. I mean, you're a guy
41:53
Speaker 4: who studies this stuff. What do you think did he
41:55
Speaker 4: say we.
41:55
Speaker 17: Were four hundred million dollars underwater?
41:57
Speaker 4: Is that what he's Yeah, it was four hundred million dollar.
42:00

42:02
Speaker 4: There, well, Larry said, and he said this on the
42:04

42:07
Speaker 4: it's the difference between me me talking about the budget

42:12

42:19
Speaker 17: I think we're gonna have to wait and see and
42:20
Speaker 17: see what he says. He'll give a state of the
42:22
Speaker 17: state soon.
42:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, Wednesday night, Wednesday night.
42:26
Speaker 17: And we'll listen to see what he says, and now
42:29

47:20
Speaker 4: to get your opinion on this, Dany. It was announced
47:22
Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago that one of the anchors
47:24
Speaker 4: of the Charlestontown Center, J C. Penny was going to
47:27
Speaker 4: be closing their doors in May and other hits to
47:30
Speaker 4: the downtown, to the town center, and you certainly remember
47:32
Speaker 4: it as well as I do. Know you better than
47:34
Speaker 4: me remember the thriving Charlestontown center of the eighties and nineties.
47:41
Speaker 17: I mean, oh, I had a business downtown and it
47:44
Speaker 17: took about twenty five percent of my business.
47:46
Speaker 4: Is it done? Is a town center done?
47:47
Speaker 17: And you're oh, yeah, and the owner acts like he
47:53
Speaker 17: wants it to be done. I've never seen anything like
47:55
Speaker 17: this when Pennies first. First thing, I think Pennies if
47:58
Speaker 17: it's like it was when they they opened, they owned
48:01
Speaker 17: that property and they had a catalog store then that's
48:06
Speaker 17: for the internet or all that. And they had a
48:08
Speaker 17: catalog store just like Seares and Robuck had a catalog store,
48:12
Speaker 17: and people used to go in there and look through
48:14
Speaker 17: the book and order stuff. And now it's down to
48:18
Speaker 17: nothing and it's really sad, and it just from where
48:23
Speaker 17: I said, it doesn't look like anybody's getting any encouragement
48:27
Speaker 17: to stay there. I'd have kept those restaurants there if
48:29
Speaker 17: I had to give them free rent.
48:31
Speaker 4: You as mayor you would have done that, or well.
48:33
Speaker 17: You can't do it as mayor of the owner, but
48:36
Speaker 17: I don't know what the owner's agenda is.
48:38
Speaker 4: I mean this if you if you look back at
48:40
Speaker 4: some other properties that the whole group has done, this
48:42
Speaker 4: is kind of from my research, this is kind of
48:45
Speaker 4: their modus operandi. I mean, this is kind of what
48:47
Speaker 4: they what they do. They they come in and you know,
48:50
Speaker 4: I had the owner of them all, mister Hall himself,
48:53
Speaker 4: on the show with the mayor, Mayor Goodwin when the
48:55
Speaker 4: announcement was made, and it was you know, we're gonna
48:58
Speaker 4: do this, We're gonna do that. And here we set
48:59
Speaker 4: and we're gonna do what I mean, we're gonna we're
49:02
Speaker 4: gonna build it, we're gonna make it. This was whenever
49:04
Speaker 4: the announcement was made two three years ago, and they've
49:07
Speaker 4: done basically nothing with it, and it's now it's just
49:12
Speaker 4: a shell. There's just I don't even know how many
49:13
Speaker 4: stores are even. I can't even tell you. And I
49:15
Speaker 4: work in downtown Charleston, Danny, I can't even tell you
49:17
Speaker 4: the last time I was in the town Center. It's
49:19
Speaker 4: been it's been a year.
49:20
Speaker 17: You've got some stores up there on the on the
49:23
Speaker 17: third floor that like, what's the chicken place.
49:27
Speaker 4: What's the religious place for chick fil a? Chick fil A?
49:31
Speaker 17: They're still making it?
49:32
Speaker 4: Are they still there?
49:33
Speaker 10: Yeah?
49:34
Speaker 4: All know they do a good business. That should tell
49:35
Speaker 4: you how much I.
49:36
Speaker 17: And some of those stores are making it. But I
49:41
Speaker 17: don't know what other stores are doing well. It's just
49:43
Speaker 17: a matter of time for them. But what what what
49:47
Speaker 17: is he gonna do with it? If he's just let
49:49
Speaker 17: it empty out?
49:50
Speaker 4: I don't know.
49:51
Speaker 6: I don't know.
49:52
Speaker 4: Speaking of food, right across the street from where you
49:55
Speaker 4: hang out, Queer Diner has opened up again.
49:58
Speaker 17: They are killing them.
50:00
Speaker 4: I mean that's they are doing so well. They had
50:02
Speaker 4: a grand opening on Friday. I didn't get a chance
50:04
Speaker 4: with ten I was at the Capitol, but I know
50:06
Speaker 4: our news team was there there and did a little
50:07
Speaker 4: story on it. That's I had lunch there about a
50:09
Speaker 4: month or so ago. Pretty good stuff and it's a
50:12
Speaker 4: great shot in the arm for Charleston to have that.
50:13
Speaker 17: It's exciting and all people wanted was a good restaurant.
50:17
Speaker 17: They wanted to go there because the QD. I mean
50:19
Speaker 17: I went there when I was four years old, and
50:24
Speaker 17: it's it was going to be the first place to
50:28
Speaker 17: have liquor by the drink when twice it went in
50:31
Speaker 17: front of the voters and twice it was turned down.
50:34
Speaker 17: And then we had that private club liquor law, which
50:37
Speaker 17: is completely unconstitutional. If you read the state constitution, it's unconstitutional.
50:42
Speaker 4: But Dave Island showing five Eddy Live brighthe part by
50:44
Speaker 4: Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm, Texas. Is
50:47
Speaker 4: great to hear Danny on this morning. He has a
50:50
Speaker 4: world of historical information and common sense. He had common sense, Danny.
50:56
Speaker 17: Yeah, and the to the anti Israel guy, you know
51:02
Speaker 17: what the Civil War ended when Sherman said Georgia on
51:06
Speaker 17: fire and dressed, and they bombed dressed. And in the
51:11
Speaker 17: World War two, that was a totally city that wasn't
51:15
Speaker 17: hurting anybody over in Germany, they set it on fire,
51:18
Speaker 17: killed twenty five thousand people. It's war. That's what happens
51:22
Speaker 17: in war. Now, if if the Hamas wanted to keep
51:26
Speaker 17: their government and keep everything the way it was, they
51:28
Speaker 17: shouldn't have They shouldn't have attacked Israel.
51:32
Speaker 4: Danny, it's always a pleasure to have you on the show,
51:34
Speaker 4: and I appreciate it always, and I agree with the texture.
51:36
Speaker 4: You do have a wealth of historical information and common sense.
51:40
Speaker 4: And I think that you ought to talk to the
51:42
Speaker 4: folks at Coreyer Diner and go back there and cook
51:46
Speaker 4: a little bit. I'm saying they know what they're doing.
51:49
Speaker 4: They don't know, but adding some of that chicken soup
51:51
Speaker 4: that you made it, you know what they're saying. They
51:54
Speaker 4: know what they're doing. DJ Meadows is here, Danny, hang
51:58
Speaker 4: out with you one second, TJ. What's on the big show.
52:00
Speaker 4: I'm really bringing the IQ level down on this show
