- 1:07Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Three more to go, Wow, three more.
- 1:14Speaker 5: We're looking ahead now. I'm still holding out hope. I said.
- 1:17Speaker 5: The Patriots ceiling is six this year, and my god
- 1:20Speaker 5: it is.
- 1:21Speaker 4: You guys were there? Like did it look as bad
- 1:23Speaker 4: as like it felt on TV? Like the worst?
- 1:26Speaker 5: Alexander and Brazil writes in.
- 1:28Speaker 6: Tucy's got a point?
- 1:29Speaker 5: Oh go ahead, I don't know, No, I'm sharing on
- 1:32Speaker 5: what I was just two.
- 1:34Speaker 7: What if they just said we're just gonna drop your
- 1:36Speaker 7: pants size by one and then just see it get
- 1:38Speaker 7: the pants a little tighter. Maybe that if you're not pushing.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Fred always says he loves caller on call a crime,
- 1:46Speaker 5: So I figured I'd chime in with my most hated caller.
- 1:48Speaker 5: Christian from l A is by far the worst caller.
- 1:51Speaker 5: He's a window licking buffoon.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Window Is that a thing? A window?
- 1:54Speaker 5: Window licking buffoon?
- 1:55Speaker 4: Is that a thing?
- 1:56Speaker 5: People were asking me a lot that yesterday. Who are
- 1:58Speaker 5: the guys that you you know, who are the guys
- 2:00Speaker 5: that should return it? Are you done, Christian? Or do
- 2:02Speaker 5: you want to stay? All right?
- 2:05Speaker 8: All right?

- 2:15Speaker 5: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 2:18Speaker 5: at Let's Stadium. We're turning the page to the Buffalo Bills,
- 2:22Speaker 5: a four to twenty five matchup on Sunday. You know,
- 2:26Speaker 5: the Patriots have such you know, rabid following they had
- 2:30Speaker 5: to move us to the four to twenty five.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Yeah, get it in.
- 2:34Speaker 5: That's the only reason.
- 2:35Speaker 4: National window after Drake May.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Yeah, the Drake May window.
- 2:39Speaker 4: He did talk about, you know, played in some cold games.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Yeah in North Carolina.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Okay, but forty degrees.
- 2:45Speaker 4: But this is going to be the well he said,
- 2:47Speaker 4: it went down to like the twenties, but I kind
- 2:49Speaker 4: of find a how.
- 2:49Speaker 5: You believe, Well, this game is going to go down
- 2:51Speaker 5: to the team.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Yeah, this is going to be cold. Yeah, you know
- 2:53Speaker 4: he did say right now anyway, he'll be breaking out
- 2:56Speaker 4: the long sleeves for the first time, I think he said. Yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 4: So I do think that's an element of the game
- 3:01Speaker 4: that's good for good for Drake May. Yeah, you know,
- 3:04Speaker 4: get him exposed to all these different kinds of scenarios.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Yep. So I would imagine that they're gonna practice outside
- 3:11Speaker 5: all week right now.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Temperature is actually nice out here.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Yeah, it's forty seven. It's too warm.
- 3:16Speaker 4: It was sixty yesterday, I know.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Yeah, so we're not going to be able to resemble
- 3:23Speaker 5: the weather in Buffalo. That that will be a good
- 3:26Speaker 5: test because he really doesn't have a lot of experience playing.
- 3:30Speaker 4: In cold weather. Yeah, and this will be you know,
- 3:34Speaker 4: the last three games is due to be at least
- 3:36Speaker 4: one like really bad adverse weather, you know, like maybe
- 3:39Speaker 4: some some rain or snow, some wind, and it's obviously
- 3:43Speaker 4: going to be cold in all three. So I think
- 3:45Speaker 4: it's good for him. Yeah.
- 3:45Speaker 5: The key for cold, it's the undergarments. Yeah, if you
- 3:50Speaker 5: have good long underwear.
- 3:53Speaker 4: You can you can, Brady used to wear the school.
- 3:55Speaker 5: We can deal with it. And then you know, you
- 3:57Speaker 5: have the pouch with the handwarmers in there, so you
- 3:59Speaker 5: put your hands in there between plays. You can make it.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Unless it's like extreme you know, like the playoff game
- 4:07Speaker 4: with Tennessee.
- 4:08Speaker 5: Yeah that was.
- 4:09Speaker 4: You know, that's that's extreme cold last year, the real cold.
- 4:13Speaker 5: I don't know about you.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Yeah, well I don't like the cold weather in general.
- 4:17Speaker 5: I mean, my fingers and touch soft it was it's
- 4:19Speaker 5: just my fingers and toes would just like get so cold.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yeah. It's funny because like as a kid, when you're
- 4:24Speaker 4: outside playing and like you play like snow hockey or
- 4:26Speaker 4: snow football, it's like the greatest thing ever. Yeah, but
- 4:29Speaker 4: like if you're play in a real sport and it's cold, yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 4: you know where it matters if you do well or not. Yeah,
- 4:35Speaker 4: not so much.
- 4:36Speaker 5: It's tough anyway. So yeah, seventeen I think is about
- 4:40Speaker 5: the temperature for this Sunday and four.
- 4:43Speaker 4: But you'll get some wings though, huh oh the night
- 4:46Speaker 4: before yeah oh sure, yeah you guys got plants, oh yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 4: huh nice?
- 4:50Speaker 2: Nice.
- 4:50Speaker 4: I always liked the Buffalo trip it was a sneaky
- 4:53Speaker 4: fun Saturday night.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Yep.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Yeah, the Buffalo trip.
- 4:57Speaker 5: So yeah, that'll be the last road trip for the
- 5:00Speaker 5: Patriots this year.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Yeah, last one for you guys and then to at home.
- 5:05Speaker 4: So what do we have the friends counting down the
- 5:07Speaker 4: days or anything.
- 5:08Speaker 5: I mean, the Bills are going to be playing for keeps, right.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a little bit
- 5:14Speaker 4: of a letdown for Buffalo. But they have they have
- 5:17Speaker 4: to win the game. I mean it's still.
- 5:18Speaker 5: An head to the game where they hear here last week.
- 5:22Speaker 4: I meant thinking more like back to what they've just
- 5:25Speaker 4: gone through. You know, a couple of shootout wins, well
- 5:29Speaker 4: not wins, they split the two games, but you know,
- 5:32Speaker 4: high intensity games against the Rams and the Lions. You know,
- 5:36Speaker 4: maybe they come home after those two games and they
- 5:39Speaker 4: look at it as we have were eleven and three.
- 5:41Speaker 4: They're three and eleven. We probably don't need to be
- 5:43Speaker 4: at our intense best, you know for this one. But
- 5:47Speaker 4: you know, they need the game. They can't afford to
- 5:49Speaker 4: slip up. And you know, if I'm Sean McDermott, I
- 5:52Speaker 4: just look at them and say this, you know we
- 5:54Speaker 4: you thought this last year we went up there and
- 5:56Speaker 4: we went to Foxborough and they beat us, right, so
- 5:59Speaker 4: you know, if we're not ready to go, they'll be
- 6:01Speaker 4: ready to beat us. That would be my message about
- 6:04Speaker 4: was Ara Ara McDermott. But realistically, I mean, realistically, they're
- 6:09Speaker 4: a fourteen point favorite.
- 6:11Speaker 5: Even as the homer that I am, I think fourteen
- 6:13Speaker 5: points is generous.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it might have something to do with
- 6:16Speaker 4: what I'm talking about. Yeah, you know, like the Ravens
- 6:19Speaker 4: were just sixteen on the road against the Giants, you know,
- 6:24Speaker 4: and they covered it, by the way, So yeah, I
- 6:28Speaker 4: agree with you. It's probably probably a little bit lower
- 6:31Speaker 4: than I thought it would be.
- 6:33Speaker 5: So what are we looking for with the Patriots? Because
- 6:38Speaker 5: you know, we want to watch, you know, And the
- 6:40Speaker 5: first answer obviously is what's Drake maysd and Night going
- 6:44Speaker 5: to be?
- 6:44Speaker 9: Like?
- 6:46Speaker 5: You always want to see improvement with the quarterback. But
- 6:48Speaker 5: beyond that, what are we looking for in this game?
- 6:52Speaker 4: I would say I'd like to see a return to
- 6:57Speaker 4: the offense that we had seen prior to the bye
- 7:00Speaker 4: I thought the Rams and the Colts games, those two
- 7:02Speaker 4: home games, they looked a little bit more, a little
- 7:08Speaker 4: bit more diverse offensively. You know, I'm not necessarily saying
- 7:11Speaker 4: that they were, you know, bombs away throwing it downfield.
- 7:13Speaker 4: But this past game I thought was a step back
- 7:16Speaker 4: both in approach, creativity and play.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Why do you think that is?
- 7:21Speaker 4: I don't know, I think, you know, I just think
- 7:24Speaker 4: it was a bad game plan. Yeah, yeah, I don't
- 7:26Speaker 4: know exactly why.
- 7:27Speaker 5: I don't think there was anything to do with you know,
- 7:30Speaker 5: the you know, the opposing defense. You give them any
- 7:33Speaker 5: credit for like taking the Patriots out of rhythm, And
- 7:35Speaker 5: I mean that first drive was a good drive until
- 7:37Speaker 5: the Patriots killed themselves. Then after that it seemed.
- 7:40Speaker 4: They did nothing offensively. And so from that point on.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Seeing the Cardinals adjusted a little bit, and we didn't
- 7:46Speaker 5: really have an answer.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I just feel like they they wanted to go
- 7:49Speaker 4: with a bunch of short, quick passes to get the
- 7:51Speaker 4: ball out of his hands quickly, probably in an effort
- 7:54Speaker 4: to protect him. But why this game, anymore so than
- 7:59Speaker 4: any other game was that the mindset?
- 8:01Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 8:01Speaker 4: It's the same offensive line they had the previous game.
- 8:05Speaker 4: It's not any different really of a defense. Yeah, I
- 8:08Speaker 4: just thought it was odd. I think you can't just
- 8:11Speaker 4: do one thing, and I think they tried to do
- 8:13Speaker 4: a lot of the same thing in the first you know,
- 8:16Speaker 4: three quarters of the game.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Do you think all this talk about you know, using
- 8:21Speaker 5: Drake May's legs and all this stuff, not just in
- 8:24Speaker 5: the red zone but design runs, do you think they,
- 8:28Speaker 5: you know, would bow to that and actually incorporate some
- 8:31Speaker 5: of that into this game.
- 8:32Speaker 4: So, I that's a very interesting thought. And my feeling
- 8:37Speaker 4: is generally this year when that's happened, that's been the fallback.
- 8:42Speaker 4: They've done it, you know, you know, to Mario Douglas
- 8:45Speaker 4: has been awfully quiet. The next game, they throw like
- 8:47Speaker 4: four screens to Mario Douglas in the first quarter and
- 8:49Speaker 4: a half, you know, clearly in an effort to get
- 8:52Speaker 4: him going early and get him involved. You know, we've
- 8:56Speaker 4: seen them sort of respond hearing you know, what's going
- 9:00Speaker 4: on and responding to it. I don't think they will
- 9:03Speaker 4: with this because I think that they really feel it's
- 9:06Speaker 4: in Drake May's best interest to not be asked to
- 9:11Speaker 4: run as much. You know, I think that's something that's
- 9:14Speaker 4: going to be part of his game, but I don't
- 9:15Speaker 4: think they want it to be necessarily.
- 9:17Speaker 10: Now.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Yeah, don't have anything that's not Like I spoke to
- 9:21Speaker 4: like Mayo about this or anything like that. Just my
- 9:24Speaker 4: feeling thoughts.
- 9:25Speaker 5: Yeah, but I mean that's that's that's how you open
- 9:29Speaker 5: it up. That's how you know.
- 9:30Speaker 4: I think it's a big part of his game.
- 9:31Speaker 5: I mean, that's how you in a way, that's kind
- 9:34Speaker 5: of how you protect him a little bit, you know,
- 9:37Speaker 5: because now you're giving the defense a little bit, you know,
- 9:39Speaker 5: something else to think about, you know, spreads them out
- 9:42Speaker 5: a little now, maybe they have to dedicate somebody just
- 9:45Speaker 5: to be the spy, take somebody out of coverage, you know,
- 9:49Speaker 5: gives them a little bit more time, you know. I
- 9:51Speaker 5: don't know. But the more you can do, the more
- 9:55Speaker 5: the defense has to worry about. But I kind of
- 9:58Speaker 5: agree with you, I think, and we talked about this yesterday.
- 10:02Speaker 5: That might be the next phase of the offense, and
- 10:05Speaker 5: they're not ready to incorporate that this year yet.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Yeah. And and he's definitely not been scrambling as much
- 10:13Speaker 4: to run as he was earlier, which is probably something
- 10:16Speaker 4: they've talked to him about. But I'm talking about designed runs.
- 10:19Speaker 4: I haven't really seen any design runs, no, And I
- 10:23Speaker 4: would be surprised if that changed over the last three games,
- 10:25Speaker 4: because I do think at this point, you really want
- 10:28Speaker 4: to make sure you get him to the finish line.
- 10:31Speaker 4: So he's got a regular offseason. On an off season
- 10:34Speaker 4: that rehabbing a certain act or something, that's the last
- 10:36Speaker 4: thing you want, right, So I can understand if they
- 10:38Speaker 4: want to be a little bit more cautious. Yeah, you know,
- 10:41Speaker 4: at this point three and eleven, do you.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Think that there's any chance, like last two games.
- 10:47Speaker 4: You know what, Joe Milton, Yeah, we're gonna.
- 10:49Speaker 5: Sit Drake and we're gonna play Joe Milton.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Yeah, we get some I get some feedback from that.
- 10:54Speaker 4: People sending some questions to me. I just don't really
- 10:58Speaker 4: understand what benefit that would be, Like, don't you need
- 11:02Speaker 4: to get Drake may as much experience as you can?
- 11:04Speaker 5: Well the counter argument is, yes, but the experience that
- 11:09Speaker 5: he's gonna get this season, we feel he's gotten.
- 11:12Speaker 4: So you don't think he can benefit anymore?
- 11:14Speaker 5: Well I don't. I'm just saying that this is the
- 11:16Speaker 5: counter argument.
- 11:18Speaker 4: And I'm making the counter argument.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, I mean we've seen what we need to
- 11:23Speaker 5: see with him this year. Uh, we're not going to
- 11:26Speaker 5: incorporate the running part of the offense. Uh, there's nothing
- 11:30Speaker 5: new we're going to do with him. The state of
- 11:32Speaker 5: the offensive line isn't getting any better. Let's just make
- 11:36Speaker 5: sure that we keep this thing that we have one hundred.
- 11:42Speaker 5: See what we've gotten, Milton, you know going forward? Do
- 11:44Speaker 5: we need to keep Forsett next year and call it
- 11:48Speaker 5: a day. I'm just saying I don't want I don't
- 11:51Speaker 5: want that. The more dre I can see, the better.
- 11:54Speaker 5: But I'm just saying that this could be a possibility.
- 11:57Speaker 4: No, it's it's it's it's not like. It's not a
- 12:00Speaker 4: crazy thought. I'm not you know, it's not one of
- 12:02Speaker 4: my I'm about to attack you kind of things. Generally,
- 12:06Speaker 4: when it's just me and you, I don't do that.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Okay, thanks Paul. No, when you're not half zip today,
- 12:13Speaker 5: I'm that's a long zip? Is that on the discount r?
- 12:18Speaker 4: Okay, it's not. It's not just my friend.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Your vines, but it's a long zipper.
- 12:22Speaker 4: I like this nice compliment for jewels. Might as well
- 12:26Speaker 4: just have gone and Jewels likes the color. She said
- 12:29Speaker 4: it brings out my eyes.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Say that it's a fine color. I've just the zipper
- 12:34Speaker 5: is long. They might as well either go quarter or
- 12:37Speaker 5: go all the way.
- 12:38Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying, I mean, I don't know what
- 12:40Speaker 4: your hang up is with close, but you you have
- 12:42Speaker 4: several you really do. Well, it's more here to hang
- 12:45Speaker 4: up with others, other people's cause, especially mine too. But anyway,
- 12:51Speaker 4: I do think that your Milton thing is interesting, and
- 12:56Speaker 4: I would say this, I would maybe middle it a
- 13:00Speaker 4: little bit because there's a lot of elements that you
- 13:02Speaker 4: just brought up on that and we can touch on
- 13:04Speaker 4: some of those. For Milton. I would not even really
- 13:07Speaker 4: contemplate starting him and playing him in a whole game,
- 13:10Speaker 4: because I think it's just too much to be gained
- 13:12Speaker 4: for May in my view. But I'm not gonna lie
- 13:16Speaker 4: and say I haven't thought about it. Because Sunday in
- 13:20Speaker 4: the fourth quarter, they're down twenty three to three with
- 13:22Speaker 4: eight minutes left. They go down and score a touchdown. Okay,
- 13:24Speaker 4: so make benefits from that. That's a you know, a
- 13:27Speaker 4: hurry up. Jolly goes down, scores a touchdown, Arizona immediate response,
- 13:30Speaker 4: he gets the touchdown back. I thought about it. Why not,
- 13:35Speaker 4: you know, give Milton a series yeah or two, and
- 13:38Speaker 4: see what happens, you know, just see if you can
- 13:41Speaker 4: get his feet wet a little bit. They didn't do it.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Obviously May stayed out there and went down and scored
- 13:46Speaker 4: another touchdown, which is which is fine. I just this
- 13:51Speaker 4: is where I can make your argument like they've seen enough,
- 13:54Speaker 4: they've gotten enough experience that they you know, I don't
- 13:58Speaker 4: think he needed that last drive like in garbage time.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Let's call it what it was, right, you know, like
- 14:03Speaker 4: you can make an argument, well, there's this benefit of
- 14:06Speaker 4: playing in the fourth quarter. You know we're gonna go
- 14:08Speaker 4: no huddle. He did that. He went right down the
- 14:11Speaker 4: field and they scored a touchdown. So I just I
- 14:14Speaker 4: thought maybe that might be a time for Milton. The
- 14:18Speaker 4: other part of it is, I don't really think the
- 14:19Speaker 4: whole do we need Brisette back. I don't think that's
- 14:23Speaker 4: gonna be the Patriot's choice. I think that's gonna be
- 14:25Speaker 4: Brissett's choice. And some of the comments, I don't know
- 14:28Speaker 4: if you saw the comments that he had with Mike.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Greese, well, if not him, do you need someone.
- 14:32Speaker 4: You need somebody. So I think you would benefit maybe
- 14:39Speaker 4: if you could possibly see how he plays, because I
- 14:44Speaker 4: know everybody remembers the first impression that Joe Milton made
- 14:48Speaker 4: in the preseason running around, and I don't think anybody
- 14:51Speaker 4: really remembers the last two games that were really, really bad.
- 14:57Speaker 4: He spent the vast majority of this year, and the
- 15:00Speaker 4: coaches have talked about it, both Alex van Pelt, Girodmeo.
- 15:04Speaker 4: He's been the scout team quarterback, so I don't know
- 15:09Speaker 4: how much of the offense he's gotten a chance to
- 15:11Speaker 4: necessarily learn and experience. So do you appoint Fred? What
- 15:15Speaker 4: you know? How do you find out if he is
- 15:17Speaker 4: really going to be the number two guy next year?
- 15:20Speaker 4: Get to find out if he's ready. So I don't
- 15:22Speaker 4: think it's a terrible idea to play him. I would
- 15:24Speaker 4: not do at the expense of may playing in these
- 15:27Speaker 4: last three games. But if you get in a situation
- 15:29Speaker 4: like you did Sunday, yep, well you down three touchdowns
- 15:32Speaker 4: in the fourth quarter, why not give him a series it?
- 15:34Speaker 5: Yeah, yep, just just a thought, just the thought, something
- 15:38Speaker 5: that just came to mind as we talk about quarterbacks.
- 15:42Speaker 5: The Falcons came out of the statement yes, saying that
- 15:45Speaker 5: they're making a change.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Did you watch any of that money night came No,
- 15:50Speaker 4: they need to make a change.
- 15:51Speaker 5: What happened to him?
- 15:52Speaker 4: He just doesn't look he looks so unsure of himself.
- 15:56Speaker 4: What happened. Yeah, I don't know if it's a health
- 15:58Speaker 4: thing and he's he's he's not like trusting his body
- 16:01Speaker 4: and his ability to move. Never not that he's ever
- 16:03Speaker 4: been like an overly mobile guy, but maybe he just
- 16:06Speaker 4: doesn't feel like he can move around the pocket at all.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Doesn't look like he's trusting what he's seeing. I've seen
- 16:13Speaker 4: a lot of videos online and you know, a buddy
- 16:16Speaker 4: uh do o Orlofsky, you know, just doesn't look like
- 16:19Speaker 4: he's trusting what he sees. It was not good the
- 16:22Speaker 4: other night. They had several opportun unities to just end
- 16:26Speaker 4: that game, and he couldn't do it. He just couldn't
- 16:29Speaker 4: do it. He couldn't make a throw on third down.
- 16:31Speaker 4: They didn't trust him to throw before that at all.
- 16:36Speaker 4: I think it's an odd time to make a change
- 16:39Speaker 4: at seven and seven. You have to win the last three,
- 16:42Speaker 4: and now you're going to put a kid out there.
- 16:45Speaker 4: I would have waited, maybe if they lost this game
- 16:47Speaker 4: with Cousins and given Penix the last two, but it's
- 16:51Speaker 4: hard to argue that that doesn't deserved.
- 16:53Speaker 5: There is a possibility if Nicks keeps playing well, if
- 16:58Speaker 5: McCarthy comes back and plays well, next year, and Pennix
- 17:02Speaker 5: is the guy that this is one of the most
- 17:05Speaker 5: productive draft quarterback draft classes in a long time.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, certainly as rookies, these guys have played
- 17:13Speaker 4: better than most rookies classes. No, I'm saying, I think
- 17:17Speaker 4: you're right. I think as the rookie at playing as rookies,
- 17:21Speaker 4: this class has been as good as like any of them. Yeah,
- 17:25Speaker 4: you go back. I mean the storied quarterback class is
- 17:28Speaker 4: eighty three, you know, three Hall of famers and Jim Kelly,
- 17:32Speaker 4: but not as rookies. They didn't do they didn't like
- 17:36Speaker 4: they weren't as good as Jaden Daniels, you know, or
- 17:40Speaker 4: really Drake May.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Is that because the offenses are now.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I think they're First of all, they're more conducive
- 17:47Speaker 4: to the passing game. I think these guys come out
- 17:50Speaker 4: of college a lot more polished as passers. Now, some
- 17:53Speaker 4: of them are gimmicky systems and they have to learn,
- 17:57Speaker 4: you know, real NFL offense under center and all that stuff.
- 18:00Speaker 4: But uh, you know, I don't think all of these
- 18:03Speaker 4: guys came out of college throwing it all over the
- 18:06Speaker 4: place the way they do now. Now, certainly Lway and
- 18:10Speaker 4: Marino did. They were they were next level in college.
- 18:14Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean I think it is. I think
- 18:15Speaker 4: you can make your argument that this might be the
- 18:17Speaker 4: most productive rookie quarterback class ever. Yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Okay, so any minute now, doose, We'll be back from
- 18:27Speaker 5: the locker room.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Yeah, we were wrapping up. We got a chance to
- 18:30Speaker 4: hear from Mayo and Jonathan Jones got the Media Good
- 18:35Speaker 4: Guy Award. You got to have that. You got to
- 18:37Speaker 4: have a media greer.
- 18:37Speaker 5: So people don't know. The media feels it's very important
- 18:41Speaker 5: for them to tell players who's the good guy, and
- 18:45Speaker 5: this year it was Jonathan Jones. I think it's the
- 18:48Speaker 5: Ron Hobson.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Ron Hobson Media Good Guy Award.
- 18:50Speaker 5: Ron Hobson himself was a good guy. He's one of
- 18:52Speaker 5: the greatest. Yeah, so one of the he was. He
- 18:56Speaker 5: was a great guy and so they still named this
- 18:58Speaker 5: award after him. And the media and a lot of media,
- 19:02Speaker 5: it's not just the New England media, a lot of
- 19:04Speaker 5: media uh uh outlets, you know, not outlets, but contingents
- 19:10Speaker 5: do this. They give one player the good Guy Award.
- 19:12Speaker 5: And in the past, I think Dietrich Wise has gotten it.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Uh, Matthew Slater, David Andrews, yep, yeah. I think Steph
- 19:23Speaker 4: Gilmore won it back in the day. I'm just trying
- 19:26Speaker 4: to remember.
- 19:26Speaker 5: So this this year, it's Jonathan Jones. And what does
- 19:28Speaker 5: he get? Give him a little They give him a plaque.
- 19:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like a plaque plaque ish Yeah, yeah, okay,
- 19:35Speaker 4: nice little you know, one of those like kind of
- 19:37Speaker 4: like clear do you think the hologramby kind of things.
- 19:41Speaker 5: Do you think the guy that gets this award secretly
- 19:44Speaker 5: gets made fun of by his teammates.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Do you think he just like chucks it in the
- 19:47Speaker 4: trunk like you never never to be seen again.
- 19:49Speaker 5: Great, the media thinks I'm a good guy.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll tell you though. And it's interesting you said,
- 19:53Speaker 4: like there was so Andrew Callahan is the local pfw
- 19:58Speaker 4: A rep. Yes, And he got up and spoke very
- 20:04Speaker 4: briefly and presented the award to to Jonathan Jones. And
- 20:09Speaker 4: as he was saying, he goes, you know, in this
- 20:10Speaker 4: particular year, you know, I think we all in this
- 20:13Speaker 4: room really appreciate, you know that we had to go
- 20:17Speaker 4: in and at times when you're losing, you ask you
- 20:19Speaker 4: you're asking some difficult questions, and you really appreciate the
- 20:22Speaker 4: professionalism that the players showed them. I thought Andrew was
- 20:25Speaker 4: right in pointing that out. And when Jones took his
- 20:29Speaker 4: award and he was asked some questions, and there was
- 20:32Speaker 4: a question, you know, like how difficult is it when
- 20:36Speaker 4: you're three and eleven to stand there and answer our questions,
- 20:40Speaker 4: you know, paraphrasing the question a little bit, and he said,
- 20:43Speaker 4: you know, what you have to understand. And what I've
- 20:45Speaker 4: always tried to believe is that it's never personal. They're
- 20:50Speaker 4: not telling you you're a great player or you're a
- 20:53Speaker 4: bad player because of what they think of you. It's
- 20:56Speaker 4: just they're just doing their jobs. We're just doing our
- 20:59Speaker 4: jobs and you guys are just doing yours. And I
- 21:02Speaker 4: always try to think of it that way, and I
- 21:04Speaker 4: think there's a lot of truth to that.
- 21:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's hard not to take it personally.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Of course it is.
- 21:10Speaker 5: Somebody's telling you you should lose your job, Like I
- 21:12Speaker 5: understand what he's saying.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think if more people both on both sides,
- 21:17Speaker 4: by the way, Yeah, the media needs to do a
- 21:19Speaker 4: better job of that too, Like if you like criticize,
- 21:22Speaker 4: you know, the media, it's like, you know, it's not
- 21:24Speaker 4: necess really a personal attack. Yeah, it's there. They don't
- 21:28Speaker 4: like what you've written or what you've said or whatever.
- 21:30Speaker 4: You know, both sides could could deal to learn to
- 21:34Speaker 4: deal with criticism better.
- 21:36Speaker 5: Some of the thinnest skinned people media ever met, our media, absolutely,
- 21:39Speaker 5: the ones on TV, you know, absolutely, yeah.
- 21:43Speaker 4: You know, I feel like this was way too much
- 21:46Speaker 4: of that.
- 21:46Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, So that was so Girodd Anything eventful today?
- 21:52Speaker 5: You know, was it sort of uh, you know, your
- 21:55Speaker 5: usual press conference on unevents.
- 21:57Speaker 4: So I mean, I wouldn't say necessarily uneventful, but you know,
- 22:03Speaker 4: he talked a lot about Buffalo, as you know, as
- 22:05Speaker 4: Wednesdays typically are. But there were some questions about his
- 22:11Speaker 4: job and you know this, you know this stories and
- 22:14Speaker 4: talk about your future, and he said, right now, I'm
- 22:17Speaker 4: just you know, I'm not dealing with any any of that.
- 22:21Speaker 4: I'm just focusing on on the Buffalo bills and and
- 22:24Speaker 4: Sunday Mike Giardy sort of asked him a follow up,
- 22:29Speaker 4: sort of understanding the answer there, but you know, there
- 22:33Speaker 4: there has been a lot of you know, questions about
- 22:36Speaker 4: whether or not you'll be back. There'll be a year
- 22:38Speaker 4: two and that answer doesn't necessarily squash that, you know,
- 22:43Speaker 4: you know, like, yeah, you understand what he Mike is saying,
- 22:47Speaker 4: you know, like, no, so there's a lot of stories
- 22:48Speaker 4: about whether or not you'll be back in year two.
- 22:50Speaker 4: And instead of saying, oh, no, no, I fully intend
- 22:53Speaker 4: to be back.
- 22:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm just focused on today.
- 22:54Speaker 4: But I'm just focused on today, he just says, I'm
- 22:56Speaker 4: just focused on today. So Mike said, that doesn't exactly
- 22:59Speaker 4: squash it. He goes, well, I'm I'm not really interested
- 23:02Speaker 4: in that in the talk, it's just a lot focused
- 23:06Speaker 4: on Buffalo's not a bad answer at all by gerid.
- 23:09Speaker 5: No, because a lot of a lot of you know,
- 23:12Speaker 5: consultants would say, if it's if it's a question like that,
- 23:16Speaker 5: don't address it, you know, don't address it because if
- 23:19Speaker 5: you address it now, you know.
- 23:23Speaker 4: I kind of agree with you. I think that by saying, like,
- 23:26Speaker 4: you know, like right now we have to we have
- 23:28Speaker 4: a game in four days.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Not what I'm worried about.
- 23:31Speaker 4: That's what I'm worried about right now. It is the
- 23:32Speaker 4: Buffalo bills.
- 23:34Speaker 5: But it's amazing, you know. And Tom Kerran, who know,
- 23:37Speaker 5: he's pretty close to Mayo. I mean, they did the
- 23:40Speaker 5: Quickxcellent show together and I would consider them friends.
- 23:43Speaker 4: It's a great example of it's not personal because they
- 23:47Speaker 4: are friends. Yeah, you know, I felt Phil and Tom
- 23:51Speaker 4: have worked very closely with Gerard, so that's not easy
- 23:55Speaker 4: for that.
- 23:55Speaker 5: I was watching the show on the NBC Sports Boston
- 24:00Speaker 5: last night, the early early edition, and you know, Kerran
- 24:03Speaker 5: was talking about Rabel, saying that Rabel, he said this
- 24:08Speaker 5: definitively Rabel would be interested in coaching here. Now I'm like,
- 24:13Speaker 5: I don't know if that is from Rabel or what
- 24:16Speaker 5: he heard, or but the very fact that Kerran is
- 24:18Speaker 5: even entertaining that I think is eyebrow raising because he's
- 24:24Speaker 5: good friends with Mayo and he's not you know, he's
- 24:30Speaker 5: making this a story.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's it's really interesting. And I was
- 24:35Speaker 4: talking to Tom a little bit in the press conference
- 24:36Speaker 4: and I wanted to sort of get into that a
- 24:39Speaker 4: little bit, but you know, the pesky interviews kept coming,
- 24:42Speaker 4: so we didn't have enough time in between the interviews.
- 24:47Speaker 4: I wonder, you know, and I you know, I don't
- 24:50Speaker 4: pretend to be friends with Rabel, but I feel like
- 24:52Speaker 4: I know Mike a little bit. I had probably a
- 24:56Speaker 4: better relationship with him than most players over the years
- 25:00Speaker 4: that I've had, and I wonder if maybe He's a
- 25:05Speaker 4: smart guy. Mike's a very, very smart guy, and his
- 25:08Speaker 4: name has been thrown out there for a number of jobs,
- 25:12Speaker 4: a number of openings, specifically Chicago and also possibly Ohio
- 25:17Speaker 4: State if they end up losing in the playoffs and
- 25:20Speaker 4: they move on from Ryan Day he went there. Yeah,
- 25:23Speaker 4: he's he's coach there. So I wonder if he looks
- 25:26Speaker 4: at this and says, yeah, I'd be interested in coaching
- 25:29Speaker 4: the Patriots, like because it just ops his value, like
- 25:33Speaker 4: there's more competition. He's a smart guy, that's true, And
- 25:37Speaker 4: that's kind of what I thought, because on the surface,
- 25:40Speaker 4: I mean, I would think Ohio State would be a
- 25:42Speaker 4: home run for.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Him, unless he wants to get back in the NFL.
- 25:45Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean it sounds like he's got Chicago
- 25:47Speaker 4: if he wants to get back in the NFL, like
- 25:49Speaker 4: he's I mean, I saw something earlier this week that
- 25:52Speaker 4: kind of indicated it was kind of set, you know.
- 25:56Speaker 4: It's interesting. Also related to Rabel, John Robinson interviewed for
- 26:01Speaker 4: the Jets GM opening this week. They were together in Tennessee.
- 26:06Speaker 4: John Robinson in Rabel, So I didn't know if they
- 26:09Speaker 4: would look to get that combination back into the Jets.
- 26:13Speaker 5: Who's doing that interview is that it's got to be Woody, right,
- 26:16Speaker 5: So that's the ownership. So they're gonna possibly hire the
- 26:20Speaker 5: GM before the coach.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Well they're doing interviews anyway. Yeah. Uh, And now I
- 26:26Speaker 4: know that like it kind of ended, it didn't end
- 26:29Speaker 4: well in Tennessee with Robinson and Rabel. Like Robinson ended
- 26:32Speaker 4: up making that trade for a J Brown that supposedly
- 26:34Speaker 4: really really bothered Rabel. I don't know if that was
- 26:38Speaker 4: like an edict from above and Robinson's hands were tied,
- 26:41Speaker 4: so Rabel doesn't hold anything with Robinson, or if it
- 26:45Speaker 4: was a thing that Robinson and Rabel and Rabel one, yeah,
- 26:48Speaker 4: and they were on the outs.
- 26:49Speaker 5: And yeah, Rabel one and then then he got kicked
- 26:53Speaker 5: out too. So But the thing about Rabel, for any
- 26:58Speaker 5: team that brings him in, he comes in on day
- 27:00Speaker 5: one with his own swagger, with his own culture, and
- 27:04Speaker 5: you know, uh, he's already done it. But but he's
- 27:10Speaker 5: he definitely is very has a lot of confidence and
- 27:16Speaker 5: you're not gonna have to worry about him not owning
- 27:20Speaker 5: the locker room on day one, you know.
- 27:23Speaker 4: I mean absolutely not. First of all, what he's a
- 27:25Speaker 4: former player, like Mayo. But he's also coached and he's
- 27:28Speaker 4: had success as a coach, you know, not the ultimate success,
- 27:31Speaker 4: but you know, he's had a team that he took
- 27:33Speaker 4: to the AOC Championship game. He had another team that
- 27:36Speaker 4: he had a number one seed in the first round
- 27:39Speaker 4: by with two different teams he's had success with. So
- 27:43Speaker 4: there's there's more gravity there. I think he comes in
- 27:46Speaker 4: with more gravitas, as they say. But what about Current's
- 27:51Speaker 4: thing that you told me about. He also says that
- 27:55Speaker 4: they need to hire a football.
- 27:56Speaker 5: Over Yeah, so that was the other thing that Kurran
- 27:59Speaker 5: was saying, is he believes that they need to hire
- 28:02Speaker 5: this you know, I think I think he called it
- 28:05Speaker 5: president of football Operations, you know, someone that actually the
- 28:09Speaker 5: coach and GM possibly would answer to.
- 28:13Speaker 4: So was the position one to like pill players or
- 28:17Speaker 4: is he just sort.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Of throughout Poli's name because he was recently on a
- 28:21Speaker 5: podcast or was on their podcast and he threw up
- 28:25Speaker 5: Piola's name as an example of someone who would have
- 28:29Speaker 5: that that position.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Just bring them all back, Yeah, bring them all back.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Creating be good for us. We have great relationships with
- 28:38Speaker 4: both of those.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you know, you're creating layers. But what
- 28:41Speaker 5: he believes is that you have to have that one
- 28:43Speaker 5: person that is, at the end of the day, has
- 28:47Speaker 5: all the say and everybody answers it interesting, it's interesting,
- 28:52Speaker 5: And then of course people immediately criticize them that you
- 28:54Speaker 5: had him and you kicked them out, which is Bill Belichick.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, but I don't think that's what Tom
- 28:59Speaker 4: is necessarily like advocating for, like just one guy who's
- 29:04Speaker 4: picking the players, coaching the players, and in charge. Right now,
- 29:07Speaker 4: I think he has one guy that's in charge, but
- 29:09Speaker 4: like he's the gm is finding players and the coaches
- 29:13Speaker 4: coaching them. I think, right, so he's gonna he wants
- 29:16Speaker 4: to hire a GM and a coach, but an overlord
- 29:19Speaker 4: to oversee it at all.
- 29:20Speaker 5: Azara Football, Zara Football. Yeah, I know, I don't know either.
- 29:25Speaker 5: There's some teams that have that, right.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Yeah. I think in Pioli's a guy that I think
- 29:29Speaker 4: has sort of served in that kind of a role.
- 29:31Speaker 4: I think he did it with Atlanta after he left
- 29:34Speaker 4: Kansas City.
- 29:36Speaker 5: But didn't he work for Dimitrov.
- 29:37Speaker 4: With Dimatrov Yeah, I don't know. I'm not just necessarily
- 29:40Speaker 4: saying who was above. I think Dimotrof was yeah, I
- 29:43Speaker 4: think you're probably right.
- 29:44Speaker 5: Yeah, but Dimittroff has been interviewing too. I heard that
- 29:49Speaker 5: he was sat down with some team other really good guy,
- 29:51Speaker 5: yeah another Patriots.
- 29:53Speaker 4: Patriots.
- 29:55Speaker 5: Yeah. So there's a lot of movement. But you know,
- 29:57Speaker 5: we're in a tough spot here, and I mean the
- 30:00Speaker 5: Patriots organization and us because right now girod Meo is
- 30:05Speaker 5: our head coach and he's only been here, you know,
- 30:09Speaker 5: for less than a year. I get it that it
- 30:14Speaker 5: it has been far from perfect for him, not just
- 30:17Speaker 5: on the field but off the field as well. But
- 30:21Speaker 5: you know, I just really hesitate on blowing it up
- 30:24Speaker 5: and starting all over again. And it's a really hard work.
- 30:29Speaker 4: It's a really it's a really hard one because that's
- 30:32Speaker 4: those are the two things. And I can make a
- 30:34Speaker 4: really passionate argument for both sides. I know, big shock.
- 30:37Speaker 4: I argue both sides. But there's something to be said
- 30:41Speaker 4: that if you decide, if Robert wakes up today and
- 30:45Speaker 4: just says, you know what, I think I was wrong.
- 30:48Speaker 4: I think I picked the wrong guy, then he should
- 30:51Speaker 4: make a change.
- 30:52Speaker 5: He should.
- 30:54Speaker 4: But if he's still convicted that, you know, we don't
- 30:59Speaker 4: want to just pull the plug after one year it's
- 31:01Speaker 4: not fair to anybody who inherited this roster that's so limited.
- 31:06Speaker 4: We got to give him some time to dig it
- 31:07Speaker 4: out and fix his own mess. I think that makes
- 31:10Speaker 4: perfect sense too. I think that's what's going to end
- 31:13Speaker 4: up happening. I think that this this kind of a
- 31:16Speaker 4: season was somewhat expected. I think some of the off
- 31:19Speaker 4: field stuff that you mentioned maybe not so much. But
- 31:22Speaker 4: on field, I think people understood the limitations of the roster.
- 31:27Speaker 5: So that's the thing.
- 31:28Speaker 4: So you got you gotta let him see it through.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Do you think that if the missteps at the podium
- 31:34Speaker 5: hadn't happened, we'd be talking about a one and done.
- 31:39Speaker 5: I see, I don't think so.
- 31:41Speaker 4: I think that that's part of it. Yeah, I don't
- 31:43Speaker 4: know if we'd be talking about it as much, but
- 31:45Speaker 4: I do think that's a big part of it. So
- 31:47Speaker 4: I'm kind of wishy washing.
- 31:48Speaker 5: People are glombing on what he's saying as a reflection
- 31:52Speaker 5: of who he is, Like, I'll get to the how
- 31:54Speaker 5: he's coaching.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Sorry, Fred, he was on EI on Monday. I don't
- 31:58Speaker 4: know if you saw any of it. There was some
- 32:00Speaker 4: clips that they put out there, and he's like sort
- 32:02Speaker 4: of yucking it up with Greg Hill and Chris Curtis
- 32:05Speaker 4: and Courtney and Wiggy and people are like glombing onto that.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Now.
- 32:09Speaker 4: It's like, I mean, I know, I'm a little old school,
- 32:12Speaker 4: but this is a little bit too uh jocular for
- 32:15Speaker 4: my liking the day after such a bad loss, right, Like,
- 32:19Speaker 4: would we be doing that if it wasn't for all
- 32:23Speaker 4: of these like things that the podium like, like that
- 32:26Speaker 4: doesn't really bother I don't know how you feel about it.
- 32:29Speaker 4: The fact that the next day he doesn't look like
- 32:31Speaker 4: he needs to, you know, be on watch doesn't really
- 32:35Speaker 4: bother me. I know that these guys are affected by losses.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Yeah see I was, I know they care.
- 32:40Speaker 5: I kind of felt relieved that he's the way he
- 32:44Speaker 5: is on Greg Hill's show, because I would hate him
- 32:48Speaker 5: to like go on there and just be not who
- 32:52Speaker 5: he is and be like so tightly strung because of
- 32:56Speaker 5: the loss. Like I want him to be able to
- 32:59Speaker 5: move on after these losses because they were inevitable this year.
- 33:03Speaker 5: We weren't gonna be good this year. But I really
- 33:07Speaker 5: believe that if he was a little bit more buttoned
- 33:11Speaker 5: up at the podium, we wouldn't be talking about one
- 33:15Speaker 5: and done. Honestly, I really believe that.
- 33:17Speaker 4: So I think that I agree with you to an extent.
- 33:21Speaker 4: I don't think we'd be talking about it as much. Yeah,
- 33:23Speaker 4: I think they would still be tough still. If they
- 33:26Speaker 4: were three and eleven with with one of the worst
- 33:28Speaker 4: offenses and one of the worst defenses in football, I
- 33:31Speaker 4: think they'd still be talk about it. That's why. And
- 33:33Speaker 4: in full disclosure, you know, we do the mail bag
- 33:36Speaker 4: every week, right, so it's my next Tuesday, I'll be
- 33:39Speaker 4: posting my it's my turn, and I got about twenty
- 33:43Speaker 4: posts already, and obviously I'm not gonna be able to
- 33:46Speaker 4: post them all because they're all saying roughly the same thing. Everybody.
- 33:51Speaker 4: Everybody's got to go right. And you know, I understand
- 33:55Speaker 4: the frustration. You know, I was a season ticket holder too,
- 33:58Speaker 4: before you took me away from all that. Like Charlie's Angels,
- 34:03Speaker 4: I was. I was there and and I was in
- 34:05Speaker 4: the stands, and you know, I was watching Pete Carroll
- 34:08Speaker 4: and frustrated with everybody else. So I understand where the
- 34:12Speaker 4: fans are coming from. There was not one unfair email
- 34:15Speaker 4: that I've gotten so far. Now I'm gonna have to
- 34:17Speaker 4: obviously tread a little lightly with it in full disclosure,
- 34:21Speaker 4: because like we shouldn't be openly talking about, you know,
- 34:26Speaker 4: firing everybody. But no, I don't want to get fired.
- 34:29Speaker 5: But again, I think if it hadn't, if it hadn't
- 34:32Speaker 5: been for the podium missteps, I think we'd be taught
- 34:35Speaker 5: more talking about the coordinators, not that we're.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Not anyway, right, well, there's a lot of that too, yeah,
- 34:40Speaker 4: not that it's really all four of them. It's because
- 34:43Speaker 4: Elliott and Gerard with the two coordinators.
- 34:46Speaker 5: And listen, I fully admit that the hiring of Gerrod Mayo,
- 34:50Speaker 5: our hope that he became a good head coach, was
- 34:54Speaker 5: based solely on trust. We had no empirical evidence to
- 34:58Speaker 5: say that he would be just and so all, like
- 35:02Speaker 5: you said, all those emails are fair.
- 35:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it's fair, and I would like, you know, I'm
- 35:06Speaker 4: listening to the players, like all the players. You know,
- 35:08Speaker 4: Drake was asked about it, Dietrich Wise was asked about it,
- 35:12Speaker 4: and I'm sure when I left Hunter, Henry was asked
- 35:14Speaker 4: about it, just you know, like to address the rumors
- 35:17Speaker 4: about his job security and what your feelings are of
- 35:20Speaker 4: playing and like they're all like, you know, he's a
- 35:23Speaker 4: first time head coach. I actually throughout you know, this
- 35:27Speaker 4: is the way it's gone for a lot of first
- 35:28Speaker 4: time head coaches early in their career. He mentioned Detroit
- 35:32Speaker 4: situation and how that's turned around. If I heard different stuff,
- 35:36Speaker 4: if I were Robert Kraft, obviously I'd be talking with
- 35:38Speaker 4: the players and whatnot and trying to get a you know,
- 35:42Speaker 4: a feel for But I I don't sense, and maybe
- 35:45Speaker 4: I'm wrong, but I don't sense a lack of belief
- 35:48Speaker 4: from the players in the in Mayo, at least not publicly.
- 35:52Speaker 4: I haven't I haven't heard. I haven't heard that of you.
- 35:55Speaker 4: I haven't heard a lot of negative stuff from the players.
- 35:58Speaker 4: Now to your word, buttoned up, They got a button
- 36:02Speaker 4: up too. You know, they got to stop questioning the
- 36:06Speaker 4: you know, the play calls and the game plans and
- 36:08Speaker 4: whatnot publicly. You want to do that, You want to
- 36:10Speaker 4: go in in the offensive meetings and say, you know,
- 36:13Speaker 4: I thought we played right into their hands by doing X,
- 36:16Speaker 4: Y and Z. That's fine, but you don't have to
- 36:18Speaker 4: do that in the to the media. It doesn't do
- 36:22Speaker 4: anybody any good. But I feel like they're behind him still. Yeah,
- 36:26Speaker 4: I think they believe in Girod Mayo, and as long
- 36:28Speaker 4: as that's the case, that I stick with him.
- 36:30Speaker 5: And like you said, you know, if Robert Kraft wakes
- 36:32Speaker 5: up and says, up, I made a mistake, he needs
- 36:35Speaker 5: to do something about it. At the same time, if
- 36:38Speaker 5: Gerrod Mayo comes back, then that tells me that there's
- 36:43Speaker 5: information that the Crafts know that says we still believe
- 36:50Speaker 5: in this guy, and it's not just based on trust.
- 36:54Speaker 5: At this point, we've seen a year now and from
- 36:58Speaker 5: what we've seen, we still think that this guy has
- 37:02Speaker 5: a shot to be a really good head coach. So
- 37:05Speaker 5: we'll see this. It's going to be a fascinating off season. Yeah,
- 37:08Speaker 5: all right. So eight five five PATS five hundred is

- 37:50Speaker 5: who is in Santa Barbara. I'll bet you the weather's
- 37:53Speaker 5: nice out there. Max.
- 37:55Speaker 8: It's pretty nice, well not as warm as i'd like it.
- 37:58Speaker 8: Thanks for taking my call, gentlemen. I did just have
- 38:00Speaker 8: a couple of quick things. First of all, I think
- 38:02Speaker 8: the fans frustration is more it's brady lest they do
- 38:06Speaker 8: the teams are gonna go down. I think it's more
- 38:08Speaker 8: not that they're bad, it's that they're in that they
- 38:11Speaker 8: seem to be in that That's I think is the
- 38:14Speaker 8: biggest frustration that I know I have. They just need
- 38:18Speaker 8: to be in a f and tooking of all to
- 38:22Speaker 8: get away from this year's team. I happen to watch
- 38:25Speaker 8: a couple of clips of Super Bowl forty six and
- 38:28Speaker 8: I wanted to ask you, Paul and Fred and you
- 38:31Speaker 8: were there on that fourth down where after Welker dropped
- 38:35Speaker 8: the ball with the analytics, Now do you think they
- 38:39Speaker 8: should have gone for it on fourth? I mean they
- 38:41Speaker 8: had the Giants had no answer for Hernandoz. They could
- 38:45Speaker 8: have put Gronken for another play, and Walker pretty good open. Again,
- 38:49Speaker 8: do you think they should have went for it on
- 38:50Speaker 8: that fourth down?
- 38:51Speaker 5: What was the fourth and one?
- 38:52Speaker 4: Do you know when when Welker dropped the ball? It
- 38:54Speaker 4: was on second it was on second down when well
- 38:57Speaker 4: Could dropped that pass, Well, it was overthrown by Brady
- 39:02Speaker 4: and then they then they failed on the third down
- 39:05Speaker 4: and then fourth down. So no, I wouldn't have I
- 39:08Speaker 4: would have punted the ball. Well, great holiday, but it's
- 39:12Speaker 4: a good it's it's certainly a good discussion. I don't
- 39:14Speaker 4: remember exactly what the distance was.
- 39:17Speaker 8: But they were at the forty eight.
- 39:19Speaker 4: No, but what was the distance? If it was like
- 39:21Speaker 4: fourth and one from the forty eight, I would have
- 39:23Speaker 4: gone for it. No, but I remember it being like
- 39:25Speaker 4: fourth and long.
- 39:26Speaker 8: Yeah, both today's analytics.
- 39:29Speaker 4: You know, yeah, no I think I think but today's
- 39:32Speaker 4: analytics would have said to punt on fourth and ten.
- 39:34Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think even yeah, I was gonna say,
- 39:37Speaker 5: even today's analytics would have told you probably to punt.
- 39:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:41Speaker 4: It's like the distance is the important part there, not
- 39:44Speaker 4: necessarily the field position, right, you know what I mean? Yep,
- 39:47Speaker 4: Like they should have kicked the field goal at the
- 39:51Speaker 4: halftime of forty two, right, when they went for a
- 39:54Speaker 4: fourth and thirteen right like that, that's they should have
- 39:57Speaker 4: kicked a field goal. Yeap, Oh, Mike's back.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Hey, Mike's here.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Look who's back from the locker room. What was the
- 40:05Speaker 3: mood where the player's friendly to that?
- 40:07Speaker 5: None of them looked.
- 40:08Speaker 7: Like Deavin Henry Hay, Mike, What was it like in
- 40:12Speaker 7: the locker room?
- 40:15Speaker 8: Like?
- 40:16Speaker 9: What was it like in the locker room?
- 40:20Speaker 5: All right, Mike, Hi, how are you doing too good?
- 40:22Speaker 5: How are you guys doing good? Oh?
- 40:24Speaker 7: That was nice?
- 40:25Speaker 4: Uh, you're really too light?
- 40:27Speaker 5: You like that that a lot, but you can't help
- 40:29Speaker 5: but be in a good mood after that.
- 40:31Speaker 4: I love it, and I just I kind of pick
- 40:33Speaker 4: up little things like the little echo.
- 40:35Speaker 5: At the end.
- 40:37Speaker 7: Jade's oh well yeah, so uh, I want to talk
- 40:41Speaker 7: about the cold today, guys. And it wasn't exactly uh,
- 40:45Speaker 7: confidence inspiring. We just heard from Antonio Gibson and Tomorio Douglas,
- 40:48Speaker 7: but both of them kind of implied that they've never
- 40:51Speaker 7: quite been in cold like this before and that the
- 40:54Speaker 7: coaching staff is telling them.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Lay in Buffalo last year.
- 40:58Speaker 7: Now they're down the single digits, and single digits is
- 41:00Speaker 7: what I think the coaching staff is uh is telling
- 41:02Speaker 7: them so.
- 41:03Speaker 5: So maybe they're they're preparing them for the worst and
- 41:06Speaker 5: then it's like ten degrees. Yeah, it's not as bad
- 41:09Speaker 5: as we thought.
- 41:10Speaker 7: I think so. I think so enjoyed Antonio Gibson today though,
- 41:13Speaker 7: and I think he's had a couple, uh, you know,
- 41:15Speaker 7: a handful of good games here, just you know, coming
- 41:17Speaker 7: on a little bit at the end. Talked a little
- 41:19Speaker 7: bit about just changing his routine up a little bit
- 41:21Speaker 7: and feels like he's settling in getting healthy, but was
- 41:24Speaker 7: really saying that, you know, he said he's never been
- 41:27Speaker 7: on an NFL A winning season with his in his
- 41:30Speaker 7: time in the NFL with the Washington and then and
- 41:33Speaker 7: now with the Patriots, so he's been through this a
- 41:35Speaker 7: couple of times. But you know, he was just saying
- 41:37Speaker 7: that that he's been in bad locker rooms at this
- 41:39Speaker 7: point and he said, you know, it's not like that
- 41:41Speaker 7: right now, everybody. You know, I've been in places where
- 41:43Speaker 7: guys just don't want to do the lifts anymore and
- 41:45Speaker 7: they're just checking out. And he said, you know, guys
- 41:48Speaker 7: are still still seem invested here. And I think he
- 41:50Speaker 7: thought that was, you know, a good sign and a
- 41:52Speaker 7: good reflection of the guys that they had in the
- 41:53Speaker 7: locker room. So I spoke positively on that, but otherwise,
- 41:57Speaker 7: the theme of going up to Buffalo in the snow
- 41:58Speaker 7: and the cold weather doesn't doesn't seem.
- 42:00Speaker 4: That's kind of what I was talking to Fred about,
- 42:02Speaker 4: because we were talking all about Mayo, and I said,
- 42:05Speaker 4: if there were signs that they were sort of tuning
- 42:08Speaker 4: him out or not believing in him, then maybe I
- 42:11Speaker 4: would reassess my thoughts on the future. But that's what
- 42:15Speaker 4: I'm hearing, is what Antonio Gibson said to you. I've
- 42:17Speaker 4: been in bad locker rooms, and I don't really see
- 42:20Speaker 4: those things happening here.
- 42:21Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah. Otherwise, went into the main locker room. Then
- 42:25Speaker 7: good energy to a lot of you know, just feels
- 42:27Speaker 7: kind of some weeks. It's a little quiet this first
- 42:29Speaker 7: day kind of ramping up, but it felt like a
- 42:30Speaker 7: lot of guys were in there getting ready and uh,
- 42:32Speaker 7: you know, just felt like it was bustling a little bit.
- 42:34Speaker 7: So yeah, it was pretty good, but like I said,
- 42:37Speaker 7: only talk to a couple of guys. Yeah, of course,
- 42:39Speaker 7: we got Jonathan Jones, large contingent there, media pretty.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Decent, very much contingent today.
- 42:44Speaker 7: Yeah, and the press conferences.
- 42:46Speaker 4: I thought it was bigger than the last couple of Wednesday's.
- 42:49Speaker 4: Wednesday is always the biggest day because.
- 42:50Speaker 5: Fred that's when they give out the Chick fil A, Right,
- 42:54Speaker 5: that is right.
- 42:56Speaker 7: But yeah, I think I guess you guys probably touched upon.
- 42:59Speaker 5: Well we talked about that. What what was your impressions
- 43:01Speaker 5: of the draw today?
- 43:04Speaker 7: He was fine. I mean, you know, I just think
- 43:05Speaker 7: he's he's, you know, trying to get through these and
- 43:08Speaker 7: I mean I think he's just as uh not sick
- 43:10Speaker 7: of them. But I just you know, it just gets repetitive,
- 43:13Speaker 7: like what do you want him to say? He's not
- 43:14Speaker 7: going to come out with the grand answer today of
- 43:16Speaker 7: you know, it's just we've got to stay the course.
- 43:18Speaker 7: We've got to finish strong, we gotta stay bought in,
- 43:20Speaker 7: we gotta uh stay focused. But I liked what Dietrich
- 43:23Speaker 7: Wise had to say. Just was asked specifically about Mayo
- 43:27Speaker 7: getting involved with the defense. I think that's been a
- 43:28Speaker 7: question we've all kind of asked, like, you know, you
- 43:30Speaker 7: don't necessarily see him always on the sideline doing that.
- 43:33Speaker 7: But Dietrick Wise said, you know, in the meeting rooms,
- 43:35Speaker 7: that's what he does. He you know, he gets in
- 43:37Speaker 7: there like he's the linebacker again, and you know, kind
- 43:39Speaker 7: of coaches from the player's perspective, which we've heard a
- 43:43Speaker 7: million times since he got hired, that the players appreciate
- 43:46Speaker 7: having a coach who played, who knows what it's like
- 43:48Speaker 7: to play through injury, and also you know, can relay
- 43:50Speaker 7: what he would see on the field and how they
- 43:51Speaker 7: need to communicate. So I that was one highlight for me.
- 43:54Speaker 7: Just Okay, interesting little detail there from from Dietrich.
- 43:56Speaker 5: Wise, we were talking about Paul and I about whether
- 44:00Speaker 5: or not there's any merit in seeing some Joe Milton
- 44:03Speaker 5: these this last stretch.
- 44:06Speaker 7: I mean, I don't know. I mean like I could
- 44:08Speaker 7: see a scenario where it gets down to the end
- 44:10Speaker 7: and maybe you're just like Mandrick's getting battered out there,
- 44:12Speaker 7: like just let's give Joe a couple of snaps. I
- 44:14Speaker 7: could see some value in that for sure, because let's
- 44:17Speaker 7: face it, if these guys are going to be together
- 44:19Speaker 7: for the next few years, you never know when it's
- 44:21Speaker 7: going to be Joe Milton's time. So if it does
- 44:23Speaker 7: get to the point where it's zero degrees out there
- 44:26Speaker 7: and at Oliver keeps landing on top of take, may
- 44:28Speaker 7: you know it might be like, hey, let's because if you.
- 44:30Speaker 4: Think about it, like if you if you want a
- 44:32Speaker 4: veteran backup quarterback, So let's just say on the low end,
- 44:38Speaker 4: that's five million dollars. Like, so it's not just nothing.
- 44:43Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not saying it's a huge difference makeup,
- 44:45Speaker 4: but it's not nothing. So do you do you want
- 44:48Speaker 4: to make that investment because you don't want to get
- 44:49Speaker 4: in a situation where you get to like training camp
- 44:52Speaker 4: and you're like, you know what, we need a veteran presence.
- 44:55Speaker 4: You don't want to be scramming around. You want a
- 44:57Speaker 4: guy that can come in and be part of your
- 44:59Speaker 4: offense throughout the off season, you know, as the backup.
- 45:03Speaker 4: I brought up something similar to what you said, Mike,
- 45:05Speaker 4: you know, kind of splitting Fred's like play them or not.
- 45:09Speaker 4: I think it's too important to continue to play Drake
- 45:12Speaker 4: May Yeah, me too. But like like Sunday, and I
- 45:15Speaker 4: did think of this, and I don't think I ever
- 45:17Speaker 4: said it out loud to you. You were in a
- 45:19Speaker 4: bad place. I didn't want to. I didn't want to
- 45:21Speaker 4: disrupt you. So it's twenty three to three, with eight
- 45:25Speaker 4: minutes left. I think there's value in May going out
- 45:28Speaker 4: there and you're going to play some hurry up here.
- 45:31Speaker 4: Let's see what happens. Puts together a nice drive, they
- 45:33Speaker 4: get out and they score a touchdown. Arizona immediately responds
- 45:36Speaker 4: by getting that touchdown right back. I thought about it, like,
- 45:39Speaker 4: why not Joe Milton here. There's probably like four or
- 45:41Speaker 4: five minutes left at that time. You know, maybe put
- 45:44Speaker 4: Joe Milton in there and give him that same kind
- 45:46Speaker 4: of thing, because at this point the game's over and
- 45:49Speaker 4: you're only you know, you got the experience of that
- 45:53Speaker 4: kind of a hurry up drive and a catch up mode.
- 45:56Speaker 4: You got that for Drake May. Did he need two
- 45:58Speaker 4: of them?
- 45:59Speaker 10: Now?
- 45:59Speaker 4: You ended up keeping him in You got another one
- 46:02Speaker 4: another touchdown. So it's not like it's bad. But I
- 46:05Speaker 4: did think maybe Joe Milton there, and if you get
- 46:07Speaker 4: a situation like that in these last three games where
- 46:10Speaker 4: you're down three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and you
- 46:14Speaker 4: know it's not just mop up, like it's like eight minutes,
- 46:16Speaker 4: like you can actually run a drive. Maybe Milton can
- 46:19Speaker 4: benefit from that. I don't know.
- 46:20Speaker 7: And a little thrown a little boat into Joe Milton,
- 46:22Speaker 7: who sounds like he's been doing a great job on
- 46:24Speaker 7: the practice getting guys ready, so I wouldn't be opposed
- 46:27Speaker 7: to it. I'd also just point out I think Reese
- 46:29Speaker 7: either this weekend or last talked about Jacoby Brissett and
- 46:32Speaker 7: that they initially wanted him for two years.
- 46:34Speaker 4: We did talk, so I don't think he'll be back
- 46:36Speaker 4: based based on those comments.
- 46:38Speaker 7: And like, to your point, how do you feel about
- 46:40Speaker 7: Joe Milton. Maybe get a little bit of a sample
- 46:42Speaker 7: size on him, you.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Know, if they're convinced like, oh, he's more than capable
- 46:46Speaker 4: of being the backup quarterback next year? Not fine? Yeah fine,
- 46:50Speaker 4: I find it hard to believe they have anything to
- 46:52Speaker 4: base that on.
- 46:53Speaker 7: Yeah, just let him on cork one up there, eighty yards.
- 46:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:56Speaker 5: So I just looked at the forecast. It has gone
- 47:00Speaker 5: down high of thirteen, low of seven now, so it's
- 47:06Speaker 5: getting worse. See.
- 47:07Speaker 7: I like Drake's response today when he because he kind
- 47:09Speaker 7: of brushed it off. He was like, and I don't
- 47:11Speaker 7: know about those numbers done in North Carolina.
- 47:12Speaker 5: Doesn't get down.
- 47:13Speaker 4: He was like, that throw.
- 47:17Speaker 7: Even more to Carolina than I have, but but he
- 47:19Speaker 7: kind of shrugged it off.
- 47:20Speaker 4: I like that because I thought you would be upset
- 47:22Speaker 4: because you said he was going to have to don
- 47:24Speaker 4: the sleeves for the first time. That you don't like
- 47:26Speaker 4: the scuba hood, that's what Brady did.
- 47:28Speaker 5: I don't want the hood.
- 47:29Speaker 4: Brady had the Scooba. I hated it.
- 47:31Speaker 7: I hated it so much for him.
- 47:33Speaker 4: He just hated Brady so much. It's amazing. How did
- 47:36Speaker 4: you fall so in love with the team that Brady
- 47:38Speaker 4: won so many games for? But just staying.
- 47:41Speaker 7: Brady, I can't understand if you're alignment.
- 47:44Speaker 4: It's like I'm going to game game recognized game. I
- 47:47Speaker 4: get it.
- 47:48Speaker 5: If you're a skill position player, comfort physical comfort is important,
- 47:52Speaker 5: then you can perform better. Like don't deny it, like
- 47:56Speaker 5: try to, you know, get yourself as comfortable as possible physically.
- 48:00Speaker 7: I agree with that sentiment. I just I don't. I
- 48:02Speaker 7: don't care for the look of the the scuba hood.
- 48:05Speaker 5: The look that's just all about the look.
- 48:07Speaker 7: Yeah, well, I don't know. I think Mac ruined it
- 48:09Speaker 7: for me too when he wore it up in Buffalo
- 48:11Speaker 7: and it was like the helmet looked kind of sideways,
- 48:13Speaker 7: and he just looked like, first of all.
- 48:16Speaker 5: He doesn't just got his brain stock.
- 48:18Speaker 4: He doesn't look good in a uniform. Started it out.
- 48:22Speaker 4: It was more of and I remember this from Arizona
- 48:26Speaker 4: when they came here in eight, the Matt Castle year.
- 48:29Speaker 4: It was snowing and Kurt Warner came out and it
- 48:32Speaker 4: was a and I said it to Fred, I said
- 48:34Speaker 4: it to Andy. I said, he just looks cold. Like
- 48:37Speaker 4: it was like that. You know when you're cold and
- 48:39Speaker 4: you you crunch your shoulders up. That's how Kurt Warner
- 48:42Speaker 4: came on the field that day. Oh and oh, by
- 48:44Speaker 4: the way, forty seven to seven, like there was no
- 48:47Speaker 4: The Cardinals had no chance that day. And when I
- 48:50Speaker 4: watched Mac Jones come out on that wind game, the
- 48:54Speaker 4: three to nothing, the three pass game, Yeah, he came
- 48:58Speaker 4: out and I just looked at Mike, I go, look
- 49:00Speaker 4: how cold he looks. And then the playoff game, it
- 49:03Speaker 4: was like, oh he had no chance.
- 49:06Speaker 5: Buzz up there, tough, Well, males played in some cold games,
- 49:09Speaker 5: so he can give them some tips.
- 49:12Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, get warm, but yeah, we'll see, we'll see
- 49:15Speaker 7: how pop does they Just did you know? It wasn't
- 49:17Speaker 7: inspiring confidence. We're like, man, it's gonna be cold.
- 49:19Speaker 4: Here's another one that you remember. So there was questions
- 49:25Speaker 4: that Andrew Callahan was asking about Josh Allen and he
- 49:28Speaker 4: seemed to have the line of demarcation in twenty one, Yeah,
- 49:31Speaker 4: when they played him three times and you know, the
- 49:33Speaker 4: last two times he lit them up. They didn't punt
- 49:35Speaker 4: the last two times. Do you recall what happened in
- 49:38Speaker 4: twenty twenty when they played Josh Allen like, I don't
- 49:41Speaker 4: know why they they picked like twenty one. Like in
- 49:45Speaker 4: twenty twenty was the Monday night game here when Lewis
- 49:51Speaker 4: Riddick and I think Brian Greasy at the time, we're
- 49:54Speaker 4: talking all about how Bill Belichick believes that he can
- 49:58Speaker 4: shut down Josh Allen blah blah blah blah blah, and
- 50:00Speaker 4: it was like the inference was like what you were
- 50:02Speaker 4: saying with Ross Tucker this week, Well, this is stuff
- 50:05Speaker 4: they must have gotten from the production meeting, and then
- 50:07Speaker 4: he just lit them up. I remember that night. I
- 50:09Speaker 4: do not. I almost died during the pregame.
- 50:11Speaker 7: No, I know you missed that one. I also remember
- 50:13Speaker 7: the game before it where I think didn't Jonathan Jones
- 50:16Speaker 7: can cuss Josh Allen at that point.
- 50:18Speaker 4: Or maybe that was I think that was nineteen collision.
- 50:21Speaker 7: I do remember twenty they won m Newton, they won
- 50:23Speaker 7: in Buffalo or Cam new and fumbled, which again still
- 50:27Speaker 7: getting a lot of emails about Cam Newton from one
- 50:29Speaker 7: particular person. I don't know if you get those spreads
- 50:32Speaker 7: by yeah, ooh boy, yeah, get a life people.
- 50:35Speaker 4: I mean, come on, person, Yeah, they't a life. Person,
- 50:38Speaker 4: Get a life.
- 50:39Speaker 5: A five to five past five hundred. Let's get back
- 50:41Speaker 5: to the tpx houtline. Mark's in Connecticut. What's up? Mark?
- 50:46Speaker 11: Hey?
- 50:46Speaker 2: Fred?
- 50:46Speaker 9: Kind of along the same lines of what you were
- 50:49Speaker 9: talking now, I am not impressed with Bagerian Lowe at
- 50:53Speaker 9: all this entire season. And I know Gerrod keeps saying,
- 50:57Speaker 9: you know what he's doing the best that he can. Well,
- 51:00Speaker 9: you know me at my job, I mean, if I'm
- 51:02Speaker 9: not doing what I am supposed to be doing, I'm
- 51:05Speaker 9: not going to have a job anymore. And I kind
- 51:07Speaker 9: of feel like along those lines for Vaderian Lowe, he
- 51:10Speaker 9: just hasn't lived up to what we need. And there's
- 51:13Speaker 9: got to be another player like Caleb Jones that's on
- 51:17Speaker 9: the practice squad. That's six nine that I've called on before.
- 51:20Speaker 9: The size of this guy, I mean, put the kid
- 51:22Speaker 9: out there. It's experimental time. You got three games left.
- 51:26Speaker 9: You're not fighting for any playoff position or anything. Let's
- 51:29Speaker 9: see what other guys have, at least for the future.
- 51:33Speaker 5: Well, listen, I agree with you. If you're not doing
- 51:36Speaker 5: your job, you know management needs to make a change.
- 51:40Speaker 5: But here I don't think they think that there is
- 51:43Speaker 5: a better solution. Honestly, I think if Caleb Jones they
- 51:46Speaker 5: thought could do as good or better, he'd be out there.
- 51:51Speaker 5: But you know, you have to worry about Drake May.
- 51:53Speaker 5: You can't just put anyone out there right now. And
- 51:55Speaker 5: if you think Caleb Jones isn't as good as low
- 51:59Speaker 5: you can't put him out there just to see at
- 52:01Speaker 5: this point because you have to worry about Drake May.
- 52:05Speaker 5: But I you know, listen, if there was a better
- 52:07Speaker 5: solution than Viderian Lowe right now, you'd be seeing it,
- 52:11Speaker 5: I guarantee you. But that's the problem. There isn't. Yeah,
- 52:16Speaker 5: they didn't go into the season thinking low was going
- 52:18Speaker 5: to be the guy. He wasn't supposed to be the guy.
- 52:22Speaker 6: And he's all that's left. He's all that's left.
- 52:26Speaker 5: So we're we're in a pickle when it comes to
- 52:29Speaker 5: left tackle, and it's not something they're going to be
- 52:31Speaker 5: able to address this season.
- 52:32Speaker 9: Is there going to be a lot of free agents
- 52:34Speaker 9: that could potentially take over that position.
- 52:37Speaker 5: They'll be guys, they'll be you know, they're not going
- 52:39Speaker 5: to be studs as free agents, but there'll be people
- 52:44Speaker 5: who have played the position at a competent level. And
- 52:48Speaker 5: Elliott Wolf that's.
- 52:49Speaker 9: That number three pick. I'd rist them picked Travis Hunter
- 52:52Speaker 9: and get the tackle position in the free agency.
- 52:55Speaker 5: I kind of agree with you, or a second round
- 52:57Speaker 5: or something, but I kind of agree with you. At
- 53:00Speaker 5: least have a veteran on the roster who has played
- 53:03Speaker 5: the position at at a competent level in the NFL,
- 53:07Speaker 5: you know exactly, And thank you.
- 53:09Speaker 9: I appreciate it, and Merry Christmas and all you guys.
- 53:12Speaker 4: All right, thank you, Mark, thank you.
- 53:14Speaker 5: Let's go to uh Danny in Daytona. What's up, Danny?
- 53:20Speaker 11: Can you guys hear me? Yes we can, yeah, yeah, yes,
- 53:25Speaker 11: I'm just calling in. Tried to get in yesterday. I
- 53:27Speaker 11: guess it was pretty busy. So I have some couple
- 53:32Speaker 11: of takes, some uh some some solutions to the Patriots
- 53:36Speaker 11: dilemmas they've been plaguing them all year. You know, I've
- 53:40Speaker 11: been harping and beating at the drum about all the
- 53:42Speaker 11: problems they have. But I think now at this point,
- 53:45Speaker 11: this time of the year, instead of just creating all
- 53:48Speaker 11: these you know, people coming up with all this craziness,
- 53:51Speaker 11: I think the solution that you, you and Paul have
- 53:53Speaker 11: just talked about briefly. And I was just reading on
- 53:55Speaker 11: Sports Illustrated earlier, uh two days ago, and then I
- 53:59Speaker 11: was watching Tom Currn's podcast The Chef's Day. They have
- 54:04Speaker 11: to have a team president, telling you all these successful organizations.
- 54:08Speaker 11: If you look at the Bears, they got a team
- 54:09Speaker 11: president you're looking for. Even the sorry Cowboys, they got
- 54:15Speaker 11: a team president. Even though Jerry Jones is running the show.
- 54:17Speaker 11: His son's to the president, and they got others.
- 54:20Speaker 3: They have an actual GM but.
- 54:22Speaker 11: Not by title. He's running the show. So all these
- 54:25Speaker 11: you know, organizations around the league, they have a person
- 54:27Speaker 11: that's in charge of football operations. They gave this phony
- 54:32Speaker 11: title to Elliott Wolf. The guy's in over his head.
- 54:36Speaker 2: You know.
- 54:37Speaker 11: The solution to that is fine. You want to keep
- 54:40Speaker 11: Elliott Wolff, you don't want.
- 54:41Speaker 9: To find That's fine.
- 54:42Speaker 11: He needs to have a babysitter, he needs to be
- 54:44Speaker 11: able to answer somebody. You want to keep Gerond Mayo,
- 54:47Speaker 11: that's fine, he also needs to behave a babysitter. He
- 54:53Speaker 11: he's making the team look like a like the New
- 54:56Speaker 11: York Jets. They look like he looks like a buff
- 54:58Speaker 11: whom you know, the head coach is supposed to be
- 55:01Speaker 11: the spokesperson for the team. And people look at the
- 55:04Speaker 11: New England Patriots and they see the New York Jets.
- 55:08Speaker 11: They see a dysfunctional ownership meddling in and everything. They
- 55:13Speaker 11: see a head coach who doesn't even know what to say.
- 55:16Speaker 11: They see a GM who can't even draft. It's terrible,
- 55:20Speaker 11: and then they you.
- 55:21Speaker 5: Know, you know, yeah, all right, thanks for the call. Yeah,
- 55:29Speaker 5: So thinking about that football czar, but.
- 55:32Speaker 4: I think that his problem is with the individuals that
- 55:35Speaker 4: are in place, not with the title. It's not a
- 55:38Speaker 4: phony and Elliott Wolf doesn't have a phony baloney title
- 55:41Speaker 4: you have. You have a problem with Elliott Wolf's choices, right,
- 55:44Speaker 4: Like that's and I'm not saying he's wrong. And I
- 55:47Speaker 4: don't think Elliott Wolf had a.
- 55:48Speaker 5: Great year, you know, so in his world, this football
- 55:52Speaker 5: czar has all the answers.
- 55:53Speaker 4: Right, But like the footballs are in New England, is
- 55:56Speaker 4: Elliott Wolf? Like again, you obviously don't like the.
- 56:00Speaker 5: Choice, but but does Gerard.
- 56:03Speaker 4: Yes, it's was written in the release. Elliott Wolf has
- 56:07Speaker 4: final say over the fifty three that specifically is in
- 56:10Speaker 4: the release. So he's in charge of the players. Correct, Yeah, Well,
- 56:15Speaker 4: I mean, what do you like we can have another
- 56:17Speaker 4: guy who was in charge of.
- 56:19Speaker 5: But there's also the game plan. There's also that's coaching.
- 56:22Speaker 4: That's not a GM football zar is not going to
- 56:24Speaker 4: be in arge of gameplay.
- 56:26Speaker 5: I think. I think in Danny's it's all I have it.
- 56:29Speaker 4: This is another problem I have with Danny. All the
- 56:32Speaker 4: successful teams Chicago not successful, Dallas not successful, San Francisco
- 56:37Speaker 4: six and eight and wildly underachieving. Now I'll give you
- 56:41Speaker 4: San Francisco's a successful organization, but John Lynch does not
- 56:45Speaker 4: put the game plan together. John Lynch is procuring players
- 56:49Speaker 4: for Kyle Shanahan. That's the way most teams do it, right, Yep.
- 56:54Speaker 7: It's not the structure of the front office. To me,
- 56:55Speaker 7: like it's just it's the player, it's the guys, it's
- 56:57Speaker 7: the people that are in the jobs and the people
- 56:59Speaker 7: that are picking and it just this reeks to me
- 57:01Speaker 7: of kind of like take GM duties away from Bill
- 57:03Speaker 7: and bring a GM into if.
- 57:05Speaker 4: You want to have a guy in charge of everything, fine.
- 57:08Speaker 7: And what are you going to do? Bring somebody in
- 57:09Speaker 7: to watch them next year?
- 57:10Speaker 4: So so now you're basically making Elliott wolf Is now
- 57:17Speaker 4: like the head of scouting newter. I mean, he's the
- 57:20Speaker 4: head of scouting and he's doing all your work for you.
- 57:23Speaker 4: But ultimately, in your scenario, Scott Pioli is in charge, right,
- 57:29Speaker 4: but he's Scott Pioli is not going to put the
- 57:31Speaker 4: game plan together on Sundays the coach is. So I mean,
- 57:35Speaker 4: I know there's a title for everything nowadays. Now and
- 57:38Speaker 4: then you can have a president of Football Operations neat
- 57:41Speaker 4: and what does that mean? What does that do?
- 57:43Speaker 5: And there's a million ways to skin the cat. You know,
- 57:46Speaker 5: every team has some type of variance in how they're structured,
- 57:50Speaker 5: and whether or not they win or not has more
- 57:53Speaker 5: to do with the players they have than anything out right.
- 57:55Speaker 4: And that's why I'm not criticizing Danny the caller Danny
- 57:59Speaker 4: from Daytona for suggesting they need better, because they do
- 58:03Speaker 4: need better. They need better coaching and better personnel moves
- 58:06Speaker 4: than they made in year one. And if it doesn't improve,
- 58:09Speaker 4: I don't think we'll be having conversations about whether or
- 58:11Speaker 4: not they'll be back for year.
- 58:12Speaker 7: Three, no question. Just going back to the previous call
- 58:16Speaker 7: real quick, I thought, maybe Ben Brown, maybe this is
- 58:18Speaker 7: the week, maybe cold strange in that, you know, maybe
- 58:21Speaker 7: he was talking about Venerian Lowe, who I think my
- 58:23Speaker 7: frustration with Venerian Lowe is just that, and we heard
- 58:26Speaker 7: from him all summer, like he just seems like a
- 58:28Speaker 7: guy who really wants to get it right and it
- 58:29Speaker 7: is really hard on himself, and you know, so you
- 58:31Speaker 7: give him a little bit of the benefit of the doubt.
- 58:33Speaker 7: But the hard thing is just when he's making mental
- 58:35Speaker 7: mistakes that like, this is the stuff that should be
- 58:37Speaker 7: cleaned up, and for Ben Brown to kind of start
- 58:40Speaker 7: with the all of a sudden the snaps don't look good,
- 58:42Speaker 7: which comes from I know, I.
- 58:44Speaker 5: Haven't done it all up until now.
- 58:45Speaker 7: He heard footsteps. I think you hear the cool strange
- 58:47Speaker 7: sneaking up a Ham. I'm coming and get that job
- 58:49Speaker 7: from you.
- 58:51Speaker 5: Joe in New Hampshire. What's up Joe?
- 58:54Speaker 12: Hey, guys, So you were just talking about it a
- 58:56Speaker 12: little bit earlier. You were talking about all the rumers
- 59:00Speaker 12: with Mayo's job, and the last caller brought up Elliott Wolf.
- 59:05Speaker 12: I personally have a bigger issue with Elliott Wolf than
- 59:09Speaker 12: I do Diraw Mayo and the rest of the coaching staff.
- 59:12Speaker 12: I just don't think he's cut off with the job.
- 59:14Speaker 12: The draft looks abysmal to this point, the free agency
- 59:18Speaker 12: moves look abismal. So I'm even though I know if
- 59:23Speaker 12: we get rid of Elliot Wolf will the new GM
- 59:26Speaker 12: will bring in their own coaching staff. But I think
- 59:29Speaker 12: Elliott Wilt could be more Soablame than Ron Mayo.
- 59:33Speaker 4: Okay, I mean, I mean, I think it's about the same,
- 59:36Speaker 4: But I mean I get it. I mean they didn't
- 59:39Speaker 4: have they didn't have a good first Shyeah.
- 59:40Speaker 5: What I don't know is how much say Elliott Wolf
- 59:45Speaker 5: and or Matt grow had prior for this season, right,
- 59:48Speaker 5: because you can say that they inherited, you know, not
- 59:53Speaker 5: a very good roster. But were they partly in charge
- 59:57Speaker 5: of creating that prior roster as well? I don't know
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: the answer.
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: I would say they were they were involved. Oh of course.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: You know, if we're going to give Mayo some slack
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: for being a first timer, we have to you have
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: to give Wolf the same thing, because this is the
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: first time that he was in charge.
- 1:00:14Speaker 7: I do think that's a great question, though, Fred just
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: with because over those last couple drafts we heard more
- 1:00:18Speaker 7: about the collaboration word and you know, Bill making sure
- 1:00:21Speaker 7: everybody's okay with it. And I mean, I think you
- 1:00:23Speaker 7: look a little differently at the current regime if you knew,
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: like you know, and I'm just speculating, but Macro really
- 1:00:30Speaker 7: wanted Cold Strange or Elliot Wolf was really banging the
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: table for Taekwon Thornton, or you know all the misses
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: that they've had in these couple of years where they
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: were at least trying to give the appearance that Bill was,
- 1:00:40Speaker 7: you know, letting more people have a say. Was that true?
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: You know, were these drafts, like you said, really influenced
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: by these guys And in that case, then then this
- 1:00:47Speaker 7: draft would look like the cherry on top of like, yeah,
- 1:00:50Speaker 7: this isn't right you now, But if it's this.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Is their first one.
- 1:00:52Speaker 7: And like to Paul's point, I think they checked the
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: boxes like it wasn't like he didn't go off the
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: reservation with you know, like oh, I'm gonna go take
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: something we don't need, and you know, like the Bill
- 1:01:02Speaker 7: stuff that we used to get on and when the
- 1:01:04Speaker 7: draft were like this guy was way overdrafted. Like you
- 1:01:06Speaker 7: can be critical that the Moose didn't work out. Certainly
- 1:01:09Speaker 7: the kidon Wallace one where I think we can play
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: left tackle. That's a stretch. But you know, at the time,
- 1:01:14Speaker 7: it felt like mostly drafting guys where they were slotted
- 1:01:16Speaker 7: and where they should go.
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: I mean, I don't you know, and you guys, certainly
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: I would. I'll bow to you and Evan. When it
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: comes to projections, I felt like there were a couple,
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: but not the high ones, like Cayden Wallace as an examples.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: A lot of people said it was a fifth round pick,
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: but I also, to me, the bigger issue is what
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: you said, Like, it's not Cayden Wallace, it's we're gonna
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: take a guy who's played exclusively right tackle and we're
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: going to say that he can make the transition right.
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: That's tough to me. That's that's that that's where they
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: lose me. But the trade down in the second round
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: they lose me there too, because if you're going to
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: trade down and allow a position to get taken that
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: you're going to take, you better have a guy who's
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: better than the guys that were taken. And you know,
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: I know it's only one I know it's only one year.
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: But like Bill Belichick the year before, mister he can't
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: draft anything. Traded down in the first round, took a
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: cornerback behind a cornerback who was taken in his cornerback
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: is light years better than the other guy that got taken,
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: who was already been released by that team in year two,
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: which is almost unprecedented. Right, Emmanuel Forbes has already been
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: released by Washington, So you trade it down and let
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: Washington take him before Gonzales and you were right.
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: Yep, all right, take a break. My foods here when

- 1:04:32Speaker 16: Kind of a thought on heading to Buffalo, what's the
- 1:04:35Speaker 16: coldest games you've played it experience wise coming into your career.
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: And then just the opportunity of the Marque batchup.
- 1:04:44Speaker 17: They moved the time up to four twenty five of
- 1:04:46Speaker 17: having an opportunity in Buffalo.
- 1:04:48Speaker 16: Yeah, I think first off, you're talking, you heard about
- 1:04:51Speaker 16: the atmosphere and what a cool.
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: Place to play.
- 1:04:53Speaker 16: I'm sure it'll be challenge for us, you know, getting
- 1:04:56Speaker 16: the snap count going and you know with the crowd
- 1:04:59Speaker 16: level and kind of getting our communication and you want
- 1:05:02Speaker 16: to talking about operation with with a VP, getting that
- 1:05:04Speaker 16: and uh you know studying that up and working on
- 1:05:06Speaker 16: it all week. So that's an interests for us this week.
- 1:05:08Speaker 16: But also opportunity you know, a division opponent I think
- 1:05:11Speaker 16: you know they're having a great season, so chance for
- 1:05:13Speaker 16: us to you know, get a good challenge. Coast environmental
- 1:05:17Speaker 16: probably played in is back in work because I probably
- 1:05:20Speaker 16: low twenties, mainteens. You know, it gets cold, you know
- 1:05:23Speaker 16: back home it does and it gets real hot too,
- 1:05:26Speaker 16: so we gotta get both worlds back home. But yeah,
- 1:05:30Speaker 16: definitely be different. I think it gets off the cold
- 1:05:33Speaker 16: weather games and here you know, up in Boston but
- 1:05:35Speaker 16: different from me, but I think excited to probably wear
- 1:05:38Speaker 16: long sleeves for the first time and kind of embrace it.
- 1:05:41Speaker 17: Did you plan on going to the North Carolina Bowl
- 1:05:43Speaker 17: game at Fenway?
- 1:05:44Speaker 11: And now let's pointed you can't go now that the
- 1:05:47Speaker 11: game has been changed.
- 1:05:47Speaker 16: So think no doubt it is his pointing. I think
- 1:05:50Speaker 16: he probably would have been over here. I think it
- 1:05:51Speaker 16: was the early game start. I think I think it
- 1:05:53Speaker 16: was which yeah, which, ye, eleven o'clock in the morning.
- 1:05:56Speaker 16: We were over here on Saturdays usually too about noon,
- 1:05:59Speaker 16: so I would have probably been late for a second
- 1:06:01Speaker 16: half or something. But shoot, I mean, you can't control
- 1:06:04Speaker 16: when our game gets moved to. But yeah, definitely a
- 1:06:06Speaker 16: bummer won't be able to check out.
- 1:06:07Speaker 17: Yeah, my guys, the opponent this Sunday, Josh Allen. How
- 1:06:11Speaker 17: much of him have you watched growing up? How much
- 1:06:14Speaker 17: have you really is someone that he you've kind of
- 1:06:17Speaker 17: looked up to as you've grown up too.
- 1:06:18Speaker 16: Yeah, what a special player. He's you know, playing a
- 1:06:21Speaker 16: really high level. It's been fun to you'll watch some
- 1:06:23Speaker 16: of his highlights and some of the games. They a
- 1:06:25Speaker 16: lot of timetime games. So anytime you know Josh is
- 1:06:27Speaker 16: on the you know, a big fan of his big
- 1:06:29Speaker 16: fan of his game. Got to got to meet him,
- 1:06:31Speaker 16: you know a couple of times throughout you know, my time,
- 1:06:34Speaker 16: just crossing a crossing paths. And he's awesome, dude, And
- 1:06:38Speaker 16: he's a great player. What he's done for for Buffalo
- 1:06:40Speaker 16: and how they embrace him is pretty cool and pretty admirable.
- 1:06:43Speaker 17: You have your personally feel about some comparisons that have
- 1:06:46Speaker 17: been drawn between you and Josh's team.
- 1:06:49Speaker 16: I got a long way to go. You know what
- 1:06:50Speaker 16: a player he is, you know, play an m VP level.
- 1:06:53Speaker 16: I think the biggest thing is just his progression he's made.
- 1:06:56Speaker 16: I think he you know, what he did dealt with
- 1:06:58Speaker 16: is you know, whether coming out of college or his
- 1:07:00Speaker 16: first years here, and I feel like everybody was just
- 1:07:04Speaker 16: kind of not give him the credit deserved. And now
- 1:07:06Speaker 16: you can see kind of full tuition what he's doing
- 1:07:08Speaker 16: and and the level he's playing.
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: At and just like.
- 1:07:12Speaker 16: I said, fun to watch, and I think, you know,
- 1:07:13Speaker 16: I got a long way to go to to get
- 1:07:15Speaker 16: to anywhere close to playing at his level.
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: There's some questions about her and coach his job.
- 1:07:19Speaker 11: Security at this point Eason first of.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: All, white future to take out of that, and then
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: maybe what to some of the guys in the locker
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: room field about what Jack.
- 1:07:27Speaker 16: Oh, yeah, I think it's you know, our you know,
- 1:07:29Speaker 16: his first year, his first year coaching, being a head coach.
- 1:07:32Speaker 16: It's a tough challenge, you know, for your New England Patriots.
- 1:07:35Speaker 16: Just like I said, it's a lot of responsibility in
- 1:07:37Speaker 16: the quarterbacks, same as as head coach. It's a lot
- 1:07:39Speaker 16: of possibility, and you know, he's he's figuring out and
- 1:07:43Speaker 16: you know, I think our players, you know, we're behind him.
- 1:07:45Speaker 16: We're back in them, and we trust you know, the
- 1:07:47Speaker 16: plan he's got for us, and we trust. I think
- 1:07:49Speaker 16: what he says in the team meeting rooms and and
- 1:07:51Speaker 16: all those little sayings that he has, we believe in
- 1:07:53Speaker 16: it and we're bought into it. I just think the
- 1:07:56Speaker 16: results are coming. I think they're coming. I think kind
- 1:07:58Speaker 16: of we wish everybody wish is there now, and I
- 1:08:00Speaker 16: think we're kind of striving for that. But sometimes I
- 1:08:04Speaker 16: think it doesn't work out that way. But I think
- 1:08:05Speaker 16: what we're coming in and the winning is is coming
- 1:08:07Speaker 16: in the near future. Like that baster that what I'm saying,
- 1:08:11Speaker 16: Like I spoke on maybe P on I think I
- 1:08:14Speaker 16: was on the radio show about iv P. It's what
- 1:08:16Speaker 16: he's done for my development. And you know, just just
- 1:08:19Speaker 16: a quarterback friend the office, Cordinaria, I think you want
- 1:08:21Speaker 16: that in that room. He uh, he's the only body
- 1:08:23Speaker 16: to catch you up. He'll cut your hard to let
- 1:08:24Speaker 16: you know. You know, when you know my part of
- 1:08:26Speaker 16: the job or my part of the play is not
- 1:08:27Speaker 16: done right, he'll let you know. He will be the
- 1:08:29Speaker 16: first one to let me know, but first one to
- 1:08:31Speaker 16: pump me up. So he's he's been awesome and huge
- 1:08:33Speaker 16: for me. Him and TC both I've been awesome, and
- 1:08:36Speaker 16: you know, I can't say enough about those guys.
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: What happened is about.
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: Play the coaching style this season. Now that we're kind
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: of toward the end.
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: Of the seasonlease tell us a little bit.
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: Yeah, the players.
- 1:08:45Speaker 16: Coach gets it.
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: You know, he played.
- 1:08:47Speaker 16: He knows how to you know, take care of us
- 1:08:48Speaker 16: and take care of our bodies. That knows what it's
- 1:08:50Speaker 16: like to to get injured and play through it or
- 1:08:53Speaker 16: I have to you know, do a lift on a Friday,
- 1:08:56Speaker 16: two days four game and you got to get through
- 1:08:58Speaker 16: it and and get through it for you know, just
- 1:09:00Speaker 16: your body and the rest of the season. So, you know,
- 1:09:03Speaker 16: Coach Mayo is I think that that first one was
- 1:09:05Speaker 16: special for him and that first week, and I think,
- 1:09:09Speaker 16: you know, since that point on, I think we just
- 1:09:12Speaker 16: have some things, you know, some little focused things and
- 1:09:15Speaker 16: have a few plays that haven't gone our away. But
- 1:09:17Speaker 16: I think we've been in a lot of games. We'll
- 1:09:18Speaker 16: talk about one score games we had to finish better
- 1:09:21Speaker 16: and those critical moments situation football. He always preaches. He's
- 1:09:24Speaker 16: big into that of playing better and playing complimentary. And
- 1:09:27Speaker 16: I think, you know, turn overs, me protecting the football
- 1:09:29Speaker 16: and us getting more turners would help. So I think
- 1:09:32Speaker 16: there's a lot of things going to But with coach
- 1:09:34Speaker 16: Coach Mayo's kind of coaching styles, it's been player for me,
- 1:09:37Speaker 16: and you know, I appreciate, you know, what he's done
- 1:09:39Speaker 16: for still kind of you know, bringing me aside and
- 1:09:41Speaker 16: kind of coaching the quarterback. I think that's that's pretty
- 1:09:43Speaker 16: cool for head coach, you dope, just a defensive head coach,
- 1:09:45Speaker 16: So that's been cool for me. I was just telling
- 1:09:48Speaker 16: us about how he saw Josh develop and he thought
- 1:09:51Speaker 16: Josh's evolution was kind of key by this idea of just.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: Taking the product like pass up.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: You can't take the completion. Where do you would you
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: put yourself in that part of your development taking a
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: profit of the patient from what.
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: The defense gives me.
- 1:10:03Speaker 16: I've been, I think I've been, you know, trying to
- 1:10:04Speaker 16: work on that, you know, each and every week as
- 1:10:06Speaker 16: it go on. I think last week it's a good
- 1:10:08Speaker 16: testament at some point you need to take a shot
- 1:10:10Speaker 16: though you keep the defense kind of honest, So just
- 1:10:13Speaker 16: trying to take what they give me. I think, you know,
- 1:10:15Speaker 16: a VP and those and those offensive guys done a
- 1:10:18Speaker 16: good job of finding easy completions for me, take a
- 1:10:20Speaker 16: lot of our new stuff and let our guys get
- 1:10:21Speaker 16: the ball and run with it. So I think that's
- 1:10:23Speaker 16: been a huge process for me. And kind of the
- 1:10:25Speaker 16: deeper stuff I kind of get, you'll you'll fool into
- 1:10:30Speaker 16: kind of getting the taking the deep shot or taking shot.
- 1:10:33Speaker 16: I feel like I've done a better job of checking
- 1:10:35Speaker 16: it down or taking the completion. And you know, as
- 1:10:37Speaker 16: the year goes on, I think, you know, you find
- 1:10:38Speaker 16: that and trying to find more completions and realize just
- 1:10:41Speaker 16: a completion sometimes is the best play, whether it's you know,
- 1:10:44Speaker 16: two yard game or three yard game. I think that
- 1:10:46Speaker 16: gets us better and third down scenarios where we've been struggling.
- 1:10:48Speaker 16: So I think that's the big big part of me
- 1:10:50Speaker 16: is if my game is figuring out, you'll win the
- 1:10:53Speaker 16: time to do that and when the time it's made,
- 1:10:54Speaker 16: push the ball down the field.
- 1:10:56Speaker 17: For everyone to stay motivated through these last three games,
- 1:10:59Speaker 17: and you know that there's no playoffs.
- 1:11:01Speaker 16: Or anything aginstake, I would say, so, I think you know,
- 1:11:04Speaker 16: the biggest thing is you know there's another chance to
- 1:11:06Speaker 16: you know, play in the NFL, play on play on Sundays,
- 1:11:08Speaker 16: and you know, playing great opponents that you know we'll
- 1:11:10Speaker 16: have some some more games down the road and getting
- 1:11:13Speaker 16: a chance to you'll play against a playoff level team
- 1:11:15Speaker 16: and really see what it's like to, hey, these guys
- 1:11:17Speaker 16: are there and where.
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: We want to be at.
- 1:11:19Speaker 16: You'll kind of give us a level of hey, who
- 1:11:21Speaker 16: can make plays for us and these these moments and
- 1:11:23Speaker 16: kind of a check. It's kind of the gas thing
- 1:11:26Speaker 16: for ourselves and you know where we're at and kind
- 1:11:28Speaker 16: of what we're building on. So it's a good test
- 1:11:30Speaker 16: for us, you know, big test, and we're gonna have
- 1:11:32Speaker 16: some a lot of games hopefully, you know, in Buffalo
- 1:11:34Speaker 16: and with this team so in the future. So I
- 1:11:36Speaker 16: think it's a stop journey.
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: And now great moments in history.
- 1:11:47Speaker 5: Burton Burton Island says, now I've heard it all. Lady
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: Gaga should get an Academy Award because Fred Kursch didn't
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: know it was Lady Gaga.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: That was a good one when you put it like that.
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: She was unrecognizable, looked like her hair, so gif.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: Fi Oscar to the makeup artist, now you know what
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: I mean?
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: No, not really, she was immersed in the in the character.
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: I didn't realize it was her.
- 1:12:12Speaker 18: Yeah, what's uh what Philip Seymour Hoffman, he was a
- 1:12:17Speaker 18: good one where he's the same guy, but it just
- 1:12:20Speaker 18: a rolled brought something kind of different to it that
- 1:12:22Speaker 18: just it never took me out of it.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: He was never Oscar worthy because I always knew it
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: was Phillips.
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: More Madus and I know we actually know.
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: I mean I was in the.
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: These rooms over here, just said made up made perfect.
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: With your experience on the stage, I would assume you
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: would you would know what I'm talking about.
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: I do know what you're talking about. Did you recognize
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: de Niro?
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: Oh?
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: Absolutely, because he looked he looked a little bit different
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: too now.
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: But it's it was just the part like you would,
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: I understand what your point is.
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: Adam in the other one the driver, and you know
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: it's Adam driver.
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: People can't see you, Fred what you're doing.
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: Prominent shot, but I can't.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: That's another great moment from.
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered A PATS five
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: hundred is the TPX hotline. I don't know why I

- 1:13:43Speaker 5: Join in on the fun. Travis and West Virginia writes
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: in at that email address. Just wanted to take a
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: minute to be the word police since Eric is no
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: longer around.
- 1:13:53Speaker 7: Oh No.
- 1:13:54Speaker 5: On yesterday's show, at the thirty four fifty eight, Mark
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: Mike use the word symblematic, which I guess is a
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: combination of symbolic and emblematic, but unfortunately not a word
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: their Also, my two favorites on the show are Friend
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: and Paul. But when it's just the two of you,
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: something feels off. I'm surprised you haven't come up with
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: a solution to address that yet.
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: Well, it's only a half hour that might comes by.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: But the something that is off is we do not argue.
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: We have Matt not a lot though, ar now, No,
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: but we've argued. And then remember like Andy would come
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: in and we'd be in the middle of you know,
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: what do you guys arguing about?
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: And then we were like and then all of a
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: sudden we go from arguing with each other, you're teaming up.
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: And no, I mean it is a little bit more
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: laid back when it's the two of us. It's more
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: of like a conversation, you know, rather than just we
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: can be thoughtful. Henry writes in so I largely agree
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: with you all that Mayo will be back, and I
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: hope he is as common reserved as he is. Does
- 1:15:02Speaker 5: he need to show some fire on the sideline after
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: a repeated mistake such as shattering his headset on the
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: turf or heated but chewing on the sideline. With all
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: these repeated mistakes this season, maybe he's being just a
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: little too nice. I mean, I hear that a lot,
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: Like what's he doing? He just stands there? You know,
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: but he is on the headset and he is talking
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: and times.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: Did you see Belichick last year fire aheadset into the turf.
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: Other than with the refs? Never?
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: Right? Yeah, I mean that's that's a whole different thing.
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: I'm talking about the team. He's talking about repeated mistakes
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: getting on the team. How many times you see Belichick
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: screaming at his place him like Billy O'Brien did to Brady.
- 1:15:42Speaker 7: I haven't seen him throw a surface though. Maybe that's
- 1:15:44Speaker 7: what man needs to do, is just you know, look
- 1:15:46Speaker 7: at a play, throw a surface that way. Maybe that
- 1:15:48Speaker 7: a piece of people.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, break equipment, all.
- 1:15:52Speaker 7: For it, their sponsor an they never mind, who's.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: More emotional than me? I'm all for it.
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: I mean, we have no idea what happens after the game,
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: immediately after in the locker room, Like, for all we know,
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: he's ripping them up up and down, but we don't
- 1:16:05Speaker 5: know that, you.
- 1:16:06Speaker 7: Know, keep it behind closed doors.
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean we made fun of those coaches who,
- 1:16:11Speaker 5: like you know, are visibly upset on the sideline, just
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: to show that you know, it's them not me, and
- 1:16:17Speaker 5: you know, yeah, or players who separate themselves from the
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: team when things are going bad.
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: It's fine if you can't. Like, that's a I don't
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: think you can win. No, there was a thing. I
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: don't know. If you saw this clip between Joe Burrow
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: and Zach Taylor on Sunday, you know, it looked like
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: they were sort of unhappy with each other and they're
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: going back and forth, and like that's a sign of dysfunction.
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: It's falling apart. You know. Mayo hasn't had any of those.
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: That's a sign that he doesn't have any control, you know, Like,
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: I just don't think you can win.
- 1:16:46Speaker 9: Win.
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: You just gotta win.
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: Yeah, that's it.
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: Jeff and Cannon And my son plays high school basketball.
- 1:16:52Speaker 5: He's a good player, humble brag, but he doesn't have
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: much help. So his team is pretty bad. But when
- 1:16:57Speaker 5: I watch the team play, I still think the coaches
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: could do more to put less experience or less talented
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: players in positions to succeed. So my question is what
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: can we watch during Patriots games to show us. Is
- 1:17:09Speaker 5: it simply a bad player problem or could the coaches
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: be doing more to compensate for the lack of talent.
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: That is what should answer the Mayo and assistant coaches conundrum.
- 1:17:20Speaker 5: Are they doing what they should with what they have?
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: Depending on your answer, how much turnover should we expect
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: in coaches and players next season. It's a good question,
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: but it's one that it's impossible for us to answer
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: with knowledge. I mean, we can guess, but we don't.
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: My answer is both, yeah, but we don't have.
- 1:17:39Speaker 5: The information necessary to make the off season decisions that
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: are going to have to be made.
- 1:17:45Speaker 7: You know, yeah, I mean, I just I think you've
- 1:17:48Speaker 7: seen some players regress, you know that we're better before,
- 1:17:51Speaker 7: and I see that point towards coaching. But I've also
- 1:17:54Speaker 7: seen Drake may develop pretty well, so that points to
- 1:17:57Speaker 7: coaching positively. So I just don't know how to divvy
- 1:18:01Speaker 7: it all up and to be like that that's what's
- 1:18:03Speaker 7: to blame. So I say it's both, you know, I
- 1:18:04Speaker 7: think everything.
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: I think there's a problem that they don't have enough
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: horses to compete with a lot of teams. That's true,
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: But I also don't think that the coaches have done
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: a great job of sort of putting some of what
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: they do have in positions to succeed. You know, is
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: there any reason why? Is it just that Jalen Polk
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: isn't very good or is this all we're gonna get
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: from Jalen pol Like I mean, I think that there's
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: a combination. I don't think Polk has been great, and
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: I don't think they've done a whole lot to help them. Yeah,
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: both things can be true.
- 1:18:36Speaker 7: Yeah, there's a lot of that across the road.
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: But Frank's right, like, without having the inside knowledge of
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: what's going on in meetings and game plans, and you know,
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: it's hard to answer.
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: Yeah, let's see. Eric writes in uh, he says, I
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: was all four team to rot at the start of
- 1:18:54Speaker 5: the year, but I think he needs to go. I
- 1:18:56Speaker 5: never expected their record to be much better than it
- 1:18:58Speaker 5: currently is, but the way in which they are losing,
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: I think is not good. If we were seeing the
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: team approve every week and the defense was getting better,
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: and he was saying all the right things, it might
- 1:19:08Speaker 5: be a different story. Do not fall victim to the
- 1:19:11Speaker 5: sunk cost fallacy. Let him go and then hire Ben Johnson.
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: Wolf I think can stay only because of May though,
- 1:19:19Speaker 5: but one more bad draft, I think he should be
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: replaced as well.
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: What if he can't get Ben Johnson?
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: I know, and Ben Johnson has never been a head coach.
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: True, you know that's true. He's the hot commodity. But
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: what if what if let's just assume that he is
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: going to be good, Like, what if you can't get him,
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: it's going to be I don't know, six eight ten
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: jobs open?
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean is the team. Yeah, if you're a
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: good somebody like Ben Johnson, I would think this would
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: be an okay destination.
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: Oh, I think the Patriots job is attractive.
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you get worse.
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: I think you have a young quarterback who looks looks
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: the part. I'm not going to call him anything more
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: than potential right now, and you have loads of cap space,
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: and you're working for owners who obviously know what it
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: looks like when it's successful. I mean that's a pretty
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: attractive opening.
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: You got Patriot Place right here. Yeah, you know, new
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: training facility in the.
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: Works, new training facility in the works at that that
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: throw it on, throw it on the pile. I think
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: it's a pretty attractive opening, if you know, if and
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: when that comes, I don't think it's going to come.
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: You know, this offseason in twenty twenty five, I think
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: Gerard will be back, and I think you should be back.
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: But I think it's an attractive opening.
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: Spiin Fresno writes, saying Allo Pine that one of the
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: big reasons media folks gets sensitive at times when criticized
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: is that too many media members from the start of
- 1:20:43Speaker 5: the Ted Turner twenty four hour news cycle to today,
- 1:20:46Speaker 5: unnecessarily editorialize and insert their personal concerns slash hang ups
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: in the process of reporting and analyzing. It gets caught
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: up with their feelings when doing their job.
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: Well, there's two different things there, you said, reporting and analyzing.
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: If you're reporting, you're right. If you're analyzing, you're wrong. Right.
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: But you know, well, news has now become infotainment, you know,
- 1:21:11Speaker 5: like you said, you got to fill twenty four hours
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: on TV. You can't do it just repeating the same.
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: But I do agree with his premise, like there is
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: too much reporting that I know. I have said this
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: to you guys all the time. I grew up watching
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: ESPN all the time. I don't remember who, like Bob
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: Lee's favorite team was or Dan Patrick's favorite team. I
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: can pretty much tell you every single guy who's on
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: ESPN's now who their favorite team is because they all
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: talk about it openly. Like I don't really understand why
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: that needs to be part of your analysis. Like Mike
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: Greenberg loves the Jets, Why do I need to know that, Well,
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: like these like this means more to him because he
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: lives the Jets.
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: Guys on journalists anymore, the guys like you take ESPN
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: for example, the number of people who are really journalists,
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: it's very few. Like it's the seth Wickershams that used
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: to be the correct you know, like, well there's only
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: a chef.
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: Schefter is is the information guy?
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: Yeah, kind of stuff going on, Mike, did you have
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: some Mexican.
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: That was called for?
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: That was that was untooled?
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: Speaking of call, let's get back to the TPX hotline.
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: Jim's in Virginia.
- 1:22:28Speaker 10: What's up, Jim, Jeth Young guys.
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: Hey, Jael, Mary Christmas. Yeah, guys, Paul.
- 1:22:36Speaker 10: I want to, you know, follow up on what Paul
- 1:22:39Speaker 10: was just talking about. With the coaching and the players
- 1:22:43Speaker 10: and particularly the receivers. I think a lot of it
- 1:22:48Speaker 10: is it is the coaching. I can't believe all the
- 1:22:53Speaker 10: Patriots draft choices and players are this bad a wide receiver.
- 1:22:59Speaker 10: Maybe they are, but I have to blame a lot
- 1:23:02Speaker 10: of that on the coaching. And not bringing them up
- 1:23:04Speaker 10: to speed. And it looks like we're going to have
- 1:23:07Speaker 10: the number three picked this year. And everybody's talking about
- 1:23:11Speaker 10: Travis Hunter, but he is He is not even listed
- 1:23:14Speaker 10: in the top ten wide receivers receivers in college football.
- 1:23:20Speaker 19: Now, if you talk to Evans, I would well, he
- 1:23:23Speaker 19: he's the best stafflete, he's the best player in college
- 1:23:27Speaker 19: I agree, but I would say that the kids Arizona
- 1:23:32Speaker 19: Keech McMillan six five pounds wide receive one four five
- 1:23:39Speaker 19: is probably a better first pick if we're not going
- 1:23:42Speaker 19: to go with a packle.
- 1:23:45Speaker 10: What do you guys think?
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: Let me know.
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: Okay, thanks Jim. I haven't studied, yeah, I mean, I
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: haven't really got into my wide receiver, but when I do,
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: I will certainly have opinion.
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: I love the size for McMillon, but I don't know
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: enough about it.
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: I've dabbled. I just I feel like, based on how
- 1:24:02Speaker 7: this year is fleshed out with the receivers, that it's
- 1:24:05Speaker 7: easy to make a case for any of those guys
- 1:24:06Speaker 7: like McMillan's a little different, but and I probably would
- 1:24:10Speaker 7: skew towards speed more than anything, but Luther Burden, sure,
- 1:24:14Speaker 7: I mean just you guys know they need everything.
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: I mean the yeah, I would hesitate on drafting Hunter
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: at number three as a receiver.
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, well that's my view. But like listen,
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: I've heard a lot of people have been on the
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: direct opposite side of me, So maybe I don't have
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: that right.
- 1:24:32Speaker 7: I just think everybody needs to look at the edges too,
- 1:24:35Speaker 7: because it's a good edge class and that's.
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: The guy from Penn State, right from Penn State, Tennessee.
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: Are they worthy of.
- 1:24:42Speaker 7: I mean, I think ab Carter will be. I think
- 1:24:45Speaker 7: Abdul Carter will be. I think he moves like special.
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: You know, he's a special I saw one mark with kind.
- 1:24:52Speaker 7: Of four Yeah. I mean he's been in there.
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: Two quarterbacks, Travis Hunter and then Abdul Carter. Somebody's field yates.
- 1:24:59Speaker 6: Maybe it's a it's a little bit of a.
- 1:25:00Speaker 7: Projection with him, but I mean I think there's an
- 1:25:02Speaker 7: appeal there where he used to be kind of an
- 1:25:04Speaker 7: off the ball guy and then this year he moved inside.
- 1:25:06Speaker 7: But you just look at him. Some guys move special
- 1:25:09Speaker 7: and he moves special, and that I think is worth.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: You need pass rush.
- 1:25:14Speaker 7: I mean, I don't know how everyone's going to get
- 1:25:15Speaker 7: so like just overdraft to tackle at this point, It's like,
- 1:25:19Speaker 7: you know, why, why just why stress that it has
- 1:25:22Speaker 7: to be this year? With that tackle at that spot,
- 1:25:25Speaker 7: you go grab a guy who you know. I mean, look,
- 1:25:28Speaker 7: Michael Parsons is special. I don't want to make that
- 1:25:29Speaker 7: comparison say Abdul Carter is going to be Michael Parsons.
- 1:25:33Speaker 7: But those guys move special, and if you take a
- 1:25:35Speaker 7: chance on one of those guys, he can impact your
- 1:25:37Speaker 7: front seven in a number of different ways. And I mean,
- 1:25:40Speaker 7: I'm sorry, the defense is worse than the offenses.
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: Anthony's in New York. Hey, Anthony, Anthony, Anthony Anthony and
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: New York. No going once twice, You're gone.
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: I don't want to be a nitpicker here, But did
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: you just say the defense is worse than the offensive? Well,
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: I mean you just want to let that one slide
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: because I think there's an argument to be made on
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: both sides of that one.
- 1:26:06Speaker 7: I do think there is an argument you made there.
- 1:26:07Speaker 7: I would just say I feel better about having the
- 1:26:10Speaker 7: quarterback than about having it, but you.
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: Don't have anything else.
- 1:26:13Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I mean I like to get at the
- 1:26:15Speaker 7: cornerback in the quarterback. That's all, I'm right, kind of
- 1:26:18Speaker 7: basing it on. I just think you really need an
- 1:26:21Speaker 7: impact front seven guy badly, badly.
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: But now you're right, I definitely need an impact front
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: five guy badly. And you need an impact wide receiver badly.
- 1:26:30Speaker 7: You need two receivers and two tackles, right, I mean so'
- 1:26:34Speaker 7: And you're right. The defense yeah and yeah, I mean
- 1:26:36Speaker 7: I don't mean it clear cut. The defenses way behind,
- 1:26:40Speaker 7: but I just want to jump.
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: Well, if it was Fred, we'd be we'd be two.
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: I'd have rolled up. I think the defense is better,
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: but you know, you're such a good guy.
- 1:26:55Speaker 7: A little bit of a roll there, but no, I
- 1:26:57Speaker 7: get your point. I just I think they need to
- 1:26:59Speaker 7: make a couple additions in the front seven this year
- 1:27:01Speaker 7: that make you say this is gonna this is gonna
- 1:27:03Speaker 7: be a new kind of defense this year. That's all.
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: Uh Adrian from Delaware says, I was rubbing my nose
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: and clinics and they said the Patriots took a huge
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: step back against the Cardinals. Did they really regress or
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: are they just the same team from the last two months?
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: Can the Patriots take a reasonable step forward the last
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: three games? Personally, I can deal with the Charge but
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: the two games against the Buildos is giving me severe
- 1:27:29Speaker 5: anxiety and stress me too.
- 1:27:32Speaker 7: I mean, I think when you we always look at
- 1:27:34Speaker 7: the season, and when I looked at the season, we
- 1:27:36Speaker 7: had the same conversation of can they get to the
- 1:27:38Speaker 7: end and show a little spark. We drew comparisons to
- 1:27:41Speaker 7: the Patriots teams of the early nineties that kind of
- 1:27:43Speaker 7: did that, that rolled off some wins at the end.
- 1:27:45Speaker 7: And then you looked when the schedule came out and
- 1:27:47Speaker 7: you looked at the two games against Buffalo and a
- 1:27:50Speaker 7: trip out to Arizona, and I mean I kind of
- 1:27:53Speaker 7: felt like the Chargers would be where they are. They're
- 1:27:55Speaker 7: behind Kansas City, but they're in the mix and they're
- 1:27:57Speaker 7: fighting for a spot. It's it's really overwhelming for me
- 1:28:01Speaker 7: right now to imagine them finding a new gear against
- 1:28:04Speaker 7: these three teams, especially Buffalo.
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: Yeah, and I would largely agree with the emao's premise that,
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: you know, did they take a huge step back or
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: is this kind of what that now? I thought offensively,
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: they took a step back. Offensively against the Colts was
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: as positive as I've been about the offense since probably
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: Week one of last year. You know, in that Philadelphia
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: second quarter when they went touchdown touchdown with mac jon
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: that like man. Unfortunately, that was the high point of
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: the year. Offensively. I felt pretty good about what I
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: saw against Indianapolis. Offensively, they just weren't finishing the drives,
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: but much more in terms of conventional offense, not like
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: Drake May scrambled on that play and you know, converted
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: a third and eighteen with a flukey kind of a run.
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: Like no, it was just like regular offense. They were
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: getting holding penalties in that game and it didn't matter.
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: He was just going, you know, getting the first down. Anyway,
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: this game was a step back, But as a team,
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: I kind of agree with the emailer. I don't think
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: it was all that much different than what we've seen
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: most weeks. I think people were expecting a lot more
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: coming off of bye right.
- 1:29:09Speaker 7: And I think some people were probably pumping it up
- 1:29:11Speaker 7: like this was the progression and this is where it
- 1:29:13Speaker 7: would continue. And you were thrown off by a step back.
- 1:29:18Speaker 5: Bill from Lake Arrowhead, California.
- 1:29:20Speaker 7: You know, I've been there. Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 1:29:22Speaker 5: I've been there twice. A long time listener and former
- 1:29:26Speaker 5: subscriber to PFW, you guys mentioned how if we draft
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: Travis Hunter, it's better value for him and the team
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: if he played wide receiver instead of cornerback as a
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: primary position.
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: For him, Yeah, not for the team.
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: Well be for the team too, if he was a
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: really good wide receiver.
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: Now the value for Travis Hunter is he's going to
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: cost a lot more money. So that's not good value
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: for the team.
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: Well, i'd would I'd be more willing to pay him
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: as a what I'd rather have him be a great
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: wide receiver than a great cornerback.
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: Oh sure, yeah, sure?
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: Based off that fact, why is it that the team
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: has never tried to get Marcus Jones more familiar with
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: wide receiver or seriously make a run at trying to
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: have him work out on offense. It's not like he's
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: some lockdown corner and is electric when he has the
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: ball in.
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: His hands because he's five to eight. Yeah. Yeah, I've
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: always Hunters six to one.
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I've always thought they should try to switch him
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: over and at least see if it works on Shout
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: out Marines at Camp Handleton, all serving members of our
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: military serving overseas during the holidays. We appreciate your service,
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: Thank you, Thank you for your service.
- 1:30:34Speaker 5: Thank you for your service.
- 1:30:35Speaker 7: Maybe stop by the color of me mind in Lake
- 1:30:37Speaker 7: Arrowhead and see whatever happened to my monk that we
- 1:30:39Speaker 7: made there back in.
- 1:30:41Speaker 5: Fifteen years ago. There After you make it, you don't
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: have to bring it home.
- 1:30:45Speaker 7: Me and Lane went there and they're like like, oh no,
- 1:30:46Speaker 7: we'll cook it and send it to you. You know
- 1:30:48Speaker 7: they did, and we never got it. And I'm still
- 1:30:51Speaker 7: waiting for my mind.
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I understand the value thing, Like you
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: can look at it different ways.
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: I think the value sly cornerback is the more affordable.
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: Well, I think Evans point yesterday when he was talking
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: about that is it's more valuable to him to be
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: considered a wide receiver because that's they make more money
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: than cornerbacks.
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: But I don't necessarily mean they need a wide receiver.
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: They need a cornerback, you know, for the team. I
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: don't really think it matters all that much.
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: Kylon Pembroke has some bills versus Patriots rivalry trivia.
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: Oh love trivia, and I failed so miserable yesterday. I
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: have to redeem myself.
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: This first one. Everyone should be able to get. What
- 1:31:31Speaker 5: was the year of their first.
- 1:31:33Speaker 4: Game, nineteen sixty correct?
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: Any bonus if you know who won? Buffalo Buffalo thirteen nothing?
- 1:31:44Speaker 5: How many total times have the two teams.
- 1:31:46Speaker 20: Played forty sixty two hundred sixty much lessifty fifty, one
- 1:31:55Speaker 20: hundred and twenty nine, one hundred and twenty nine.
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: According to Kyle, who leads the all time series.
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: I'm going to say the Patriots, they do.
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: Bonus for the record. How many how many wins do
- 1:32:11Speaker 5: you think they have?
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: Seventy close?
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: Seventy eight, seventy eight to fifty and one.
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: It's a bigger spread than I thought.
- 1:32:18Speaker 5: Who leads the playoff series?
- 1:32:24Speaker 7: Bill's zip?
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: Didn't they play Buffalo in a playoff game? A tough one?
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: It's one one correct?
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: Part one one sixty three, it's tide, it's tiede yep.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: That was the one time that the Patriots went to
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: the AFL Championship. They had to play Buffalo in a
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: playoff game to get there.
- 1:32:46Speaker 5: Yeah, And what year was there? What year was their
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: only tie in the game?
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: I have to be in Well, it could have been
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: in the early seventies too, but I'm gonna say nineteen sixty.
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: Six, closed sixty eight, sixteen sixteen.
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: What had to be in the sixties. I mean they
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: haven't because you would have known up until seventy five,
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: seventy four in the weather for any other one when
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: the overtime came, it would have been seventy four.
- 1:33:09Speaker 7: Right, So who do you think of the three AFC
- 1:33:12Speaker 7: East teams have more name games against the Patriots over
- 1:33:16Speaker 7: the twenty years, Like I'm thinking of Miami. Miami's got
- 1:33:20Speaker 7: a bunch. I mean Buffalo, you mean with us?
- 1:33:22Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the Patriots in general had a ton
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: of name games.
- 1:33:27Speaker 7: Then against but against those teams, like Jets had a
- 1:33:30Speaker 7: couple of Rex Ryan games, forty five to three.
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: The white board game. But the forty five to three game.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: Was there a name for that?
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I can't wait.
- 1:33:40Speaker 7: That was the paydoal when.
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: They when we beat them forty five to three, and
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: then five or six weeks later they beat us in
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: the playoffs.
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: Right, No, that no, that was just that didn't happen.
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: But we had the white board game that you love
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: Greece sorry, Grease board game. Yeah, but but Fumble game, yeah,
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: Buffalo Hardwashed game, the Wind game, the car Wash game,
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: I remember one one, but they had the Wind game,
- 1:34:08Speaker 4: for Buffalo maybe that Watson game.
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: And Miami you had the Steve Burton game.
- 1:34:14Speaker 7: Yeah, right, yeah, the Miami Miracle, Miami Miracle, Kenny and
- 1:34:21Speaker 7: Drake Radio.
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: Was there a name for the game where uh we
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: were killing them? They took Brady out and immediately Miami
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: scored the.
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: Game you're talking about? Yeah, that's what the Who had
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: to do that to us recently?
- 1:34:36Speaker 7: Seven, wasn't it?
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: Miami just did it. Miami did it and they fumbled
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: a handoff and Gonzo ran it back and they had
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: to put to a back in.
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: Right, Yeah. I think the Jets have the most name games, right,
- 1:34:51Speaker 5: Border War, Border War, Yeah, tunea Bowl, one, Tuna Bowl.
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: You know, definitely they had the most name games.
- 1:34:59Speaker 7: That's whether they're they're number one. Rile Yep, yep.
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: A lot of name games.
- 1:35:05Speaker 5: Uh j from Tamper Smuff Harper Well that was of course,
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: that was the Broncos.
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: I mean, you knew exactly what the mortar kick, you
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: know exactly what it is, yeh. I just I'm sure
- 1:35:17Speaker 4: that other teams have those two. But I just feel
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: like over the last twenty years, there's like thirty different
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: names that you could say, you know, I to say
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: anything else to a Patriots fan and they know exactly
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: the game you're talking about.
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: Pumping in the music game six AFC Championship.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: Don't forget they pumped in the flu.
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: The flu on the heat, Jay and Tampa. My apologies
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: if this has been discussed, but I'm not able to
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: listen live. But something I haven't heard talked about a
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: lot this week is the weather in Buffalo. Well, we
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: talked about it a lot today. It looks like the
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: temperature will be around ten to fifteen degrees that kickoff,
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: and this will be our first look at Drake May
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: navigating the extreme cold. I'm curious in your thoughts on
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: how important this specific game is when it comes to
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: what we should expect moving forward from our hopefully franchise quarterback. Well,
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: I expect to play in a lot of cold weather games.
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: I would hate to have a tour situation on our hands.
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: I think it's important for him to experience it. Ye,
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: I don't think it's I don't think it's important for
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: him to play exceptionally.
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: Well, I don't think he can make any judgment from
- 1:36:21Speaker 5: it either. You know, now, if he has a great.
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: Game, better about it. If he has a great game
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: and you're like, Okay, I don't have to worry about that, right.
- 1:36:28Speaker 7: There's gonna be a lot of superficial vibes, I feel
- 1:36:30Speaker 7: like in the pregame, Like when we're hosting the pregame
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: warm up and we see Drake, like, I'm gonna like,
- 1:36:34Speaker 7: just don't look cold.
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: But if he plays badly, I don't think that's a
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: tool situation. Like that's like his first game three and eleven,
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: right in the midst of a four game losing streak.
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: Last night. I wouldn't be doing my job if I
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: didn't give a shout out to the best Patriots fan
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: club in existence today, the Tampa, New England Patriots Fan Club.
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: It is a good fan club. By the way, we're
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: excited to host the Patriots and their fans next season
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: down here where the cold weather is never an issue.
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: And Fred, unlike Nashville, you're officially invited to our Saturday
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: night party. Well, thank you, appreciate that. And guess who's here.
- 1:37:10Speaker 11: Has turned practice has turned?
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: Has turned practice?
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: Evan little haircut haircut to give a shout out to
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: where you went careful.
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: Barbershop all the time, right down here, right down the street.
- 1:37:30Speaker 6: Route one, right next to the Pappaginos D'angelo's right in
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: the shop.
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: You look smaller.
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: I'm just looking at you.
- 1:37:37Speaker 7: Look at the shop.
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: You look good.
- 1:37:39Speaker 6: My guy Sam hooked me up today.
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: Yeah, go see him.
- 1:37:42Speaker 7: He's kind of caught in the middle of a barber shop.
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: I want to talk about this one.
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: You can just walk into, you can, you can't walk in,
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: but they're busy, busy.
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: I just walked in this morning, which was nice. But
- 1:37:52Speaker 6: before yeah, we had to be here today. And they do.
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: They do a good job.
- 1:37:57Speaker 6: They do a lot. You know a lot of Patriots
- 1:37:59Speaker 6: people go there.
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: Players and Mac Jones used.
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: To go and in six months when I need another haircut.
- 1:38:06Speaker 6: But also a new doorway situation.
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: Yeah, just concerting.
- 1:38:11Speaker 6: That completely threw me off. And I walked in and
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: I scared the crap out of Jewels because she did
- 1:38:14Speaker 6: not hear me come in and she jumped about ten
- 1:38:17Speaker 6: feet in the air. So that was good to good comedy.
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: All right, Well, Evan, lots to talk about. You just
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: came back from practice. What's going on out there?
- 1:38:24Speaker 6: Yeah, so some interesting absences today from practice. So no
- 1:38:29Speaker 6: Marcus Jones, no Kyle Duggar, and no Jamichael Hasty. So
- 1:38:34Speaker 6: those are the three players missing from practice. We don't
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: really have a great feel for why right now, but
- 1:38:42Speaker 6: dugger in particular, the intennas went up for a lot
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: of us on that one, and we all have talked
- 1:38:48Speaker 6: about how he's struggled since coming back from injury a
- 1:38:52Speaker 6: couple of weeks ago. And I wonder if you know,
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: he's playing through something that we don't know about, and
- 1:38:58Speaker 6: maybe it's finally come to a head that he's missing practice.
- 1:39:02Speaker 7: Could be yeah, yeah, or do you think it's shut
- 1:39:04Speaker 7: him down, he's heard he can't do it? Like is
- 1:39:06Speaker 7: that maybe you.
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: Know you kind of hope for the future that that
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: is the case.
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: Oh yeah, for sure. If I'm absolutely, if I'm Dard Mayo,
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: I hope that he's at less than one hundred percent.
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: And that's why, Ye, yeah, this is happening.
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: There's just some really uncarried you know, he's always had
- 1:39:19Speaker 6: some inconsistencies and stuff like that, but some of the
- 1:39:22Speaker 6: mistackles and in some of the plays, you know, the
- 1:39:26Speaker 6: effort plays that he's he's missed, they're just not not
- 1:39:30Speaker 6: really his mo.
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: Yeah, So okay, what else?
- 1:39:35Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:39:35Speaker 6: That was it like pretty pretty normal looks like they
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: do have a new practice squad wide receiver Alex Erickson
- 1:39:42Speaker 6: used to be with the Bengals.
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: Oh, I remember him.
- 1:39:44Speaker 6: I think a lot of us probably thought that he
- 1:39:46Speaker 6: was going to be a Patriot target at some point,
- 1:39:49Speaker 6: given the position that he plays in the slot. So
- 1:39:52Speaker 6: you know, he's he seems to be added to the
- 1:39:55Speaker 6: practice squad. He as a locker, he's out of practice,
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: so he seems to be added to that mix. And
- 1:40:00Speaker 6: it was interesting because you know, last week they only
- 1:40:02Speaker 6: had four active receivers because Baker was in concussion protocol,
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: so he was an active and all year long they
- 1:40:08Speaker 6: had like seven receivers on the roster. All of a sudden,
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: you look up and there's only four guys on the
- 1:40:12Speaker 6: game day roster. So added one to the practice squad there.
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: And it was interesting because he took on the practice squad.
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: Liam Fournadell, who I know a lot of people like,
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: who what, it's an offensive lineman. But he's been here
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: day one of training camp, Yeah, all the way through,
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: And that's kind of rare to have a guy in
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: the practice squad that goes wire to wire and you
- 1:40:34Speaker 4: know they have sixteen guys, there's probably maybe four or
- 1:40:36Speaker 4: five that do that. He was one.
- 1:40:38Speaker 7: Yeah, Terrell jenningsark guy, he's one of them too. It's
- 1:40:41Speaker 7: been around.
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: Yeah, you know Caleb Jones is the only offensive lineman
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: on the practice squad. Now, Yeah, we were taking attendance.
- 1:40:48Speaker 4: I was like, huh, there's only we had another call
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: today looking for kids.
- 1:40:50Speaker 6: There's only one offensive lineman now on the practice squad.
- 1:40:54Speaker 6: So it did look like the offensive line, at least
- 1:40:57Speaker 6: from the very very brief portion that we saw have
- 1:40:59Speaker 6: remained the same as what we saw in Sunday in Arizona.
- 1:41:03Speaker 6: So no changes at least from a.
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: Week of offensive line in Arizona. Was funny hearing Hoodie
- 1:41:08Speaker 5: Ferrudi out there making mistakes. Yeah, so today is a
- 1:41:14Speaker 5: big day for the media. It's the equivalent of the
- 1:41:17Speaker 5: Golden Globes. They gave out the Good Guy Award. Was
- 1:41:20Speaker 5: there a lot of talk about that and Jonathan, you know,
- 1:41:23Speaker 5: not before because we had.
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: Saying so you didn't get a vote, didn't I voted
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: every year I've been on the beat.
- 1:41:29Speaker 4: You guys didn't vote.
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: Didn't vote this year?
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: Wow, it's just respect.
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: They really, they really stick it to you.
- 1:41:34Speaker 6: Now I'm gonna decide that that wasn't necessarily on purpose.
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: Like we don't sit down, but you.
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: Doors are in the locker room every day. You guys
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: should have voted. I haven't voted for the last couple
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: of years because I'm not around this.
- 1:41:47Speaker 7: I haven't voted since my first year.
- 1:41:49Speaker 4: Really, that's disrespectful, Mike. I'm taking that as disrespect on
- 1:41:53Speaker 4: your behalf.
- 1:41:53Speaker 6: On your behalf, I'm going to take something that that
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: was an oversight because I voted last year, I voted
- 1:41:59Speaker 6: the year before. Since I started working for the team.
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: I think you might be on the outsit some of
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: these guys. True, maybe it's probably possible, But was it
- 1:42:06Speaker 5: a you know, if it's unanimous or was there a split?
- 1:42:11Speaker 10: Was there?
- 1:42:11Speaker 6: I did not ask, you know, I don't know. I
- 1:42:13Speaker 6: did not ask Andrew callahand.
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: So you didn't any people that were a little upset
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: with the outcome.
- 1:42:19Speaker 6: No, it's pretty hard to be upset with that pick.
- 1:42:22Speaker 6: I mean, Jonathan Jones is a patriot.
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: Against Jonathan Jones. But you know, maybe somebody you know,
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: like Dietrich wise just as much or something like that.
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: Yeah, Deetrich, I feel like has always gotten some votes
- 1:42:34Speaker 6: in the past, always a podium guy that's willing to
- 1:42:38Speaker 6: come to the podium win, lose, draw. But I think
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: with Jonathan Jones in particular, not to look down at
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: anybody else, but he's really good, like at his locker
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: in the locker room, just like talking shop with you.
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: You know, like he's not necessarily gonna give you the playbook,
- 1:42:53Speaker 6: but like he's he's really good at sort of you know,
- 1:42:58Speaker 6: giving you a little bit of the behind the scenes
- 1:43:00Speaker 6: of like what guys are like and you know, that
- 1:43:03Speaker 6: sort of thing. So that's always cool.
- 1:43:04Speaker 7: I think he's excellent too at just giving you a
- 1:43:07Speaker 7: nice succinct SoundBite, where a lot of these guys they
- 1:43:10Speaker 7: say the same thing like six different ways and that's
- 1:43:13Speaker 7: but he says it once direct. He's very he's good
- 1:43:16Speaker 7: at that, and you appreciate it, just you know, when
- 1:43:18Speaker 7: you're trying to gather quotes like perfect, you know, just
- 1:43:21Speaker 7: a nice two sentences Jonathan Bang, it's exactly what I
- 1:43:24Speaker 7: need to whereas some of the other guys you got
- 1:43:26Speaker 7: to go through and it's you knows and you know
- 1:43:28Speaker 7: the same thing and all that stuff.
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: So if the players were to sit down and give
- 1:43:34Speaker 5: an award to the good guy.
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't think there's really anything like
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: this is one of those votes that is unfair to
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: any others. You'd have to treat it like we used
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: to do with Tom Brady. Yeah, like Patriots m V.
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: Other than than Tom Brady, it would have to be
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: excluding Mike g Reese.
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: Mike Reese has gotten pretty tough lately.
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: But he is the greatest guy that I've ever met. Yeah,
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: and I think that.
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: All the players, well, he has dinner at their house,
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: the same thing.
- 1:44:03Speaker 7: He's just always Mike's always so appreciated, you know that.
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: I you know, like those made him. Mike made Mike
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: another king maker.
- 1:44:14Speaker 7: Those those Monday afternoons that we get those guys virtually
- 1:44:16Speaker 7: and there are not many people on there, and he
- 1:44:19Speaker 7: is always on there, thanking them for their time, respectfully
- 1:44:23Speaker 7: asking questions and really asking I think a lot of
- 1:44:26Speaker 7: times the questions that need to be in.
- 1:44:29Speaker 5: A respectful, totally respectful Other than Mike, Karen Region Karen.
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: Would be up there, So I think I think like
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: this is for the players from the players players, I
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: think you know, Phil would be up there too. Yeah,
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: I think everybody likes filling Tom, but probably Phil over
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: Tom no offense, Tom don't hit Yeah, yeah, Yeah.
- 1:44:52Speaker 6: But I think with Mike too, like just watching him
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: like work the locker room, like you just like pick
- 1:44:58Speaker 6: up a lot of like how to approach players and like,
- 1:45:01Speaker 6: you know, you don't want to just come in guns
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: blazon and like have like a million like negative questions
- 1:45:06Speaker 6: right off the bat. And like he does a really
- 1:45:08Speaker 6: good job of like acting like a human being to
- 1:45:11Speaker 6: these guys and not just like peppering them with with
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: questions on football and stuff like that right off the bat.
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: Mike would be a great course to young reporters as
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: to how to not shy away from difficult jacks, but
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: to do it in a respectful manner. Yeah, and like
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: he has.
- 1:45:29Speaker 5: A really good feeling and you know, no kidding aside
- 1:45:32Speaker 5: or all kidding aside, I should say. When Bill was here,
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: Mike got shut down a lot like Bill, like to
- 1:45:39Speaker 5: the point where we were like, why is Bill disrespecting
- 1:45:41Speaker 5: Mike the way he is? You know, because Mike was
- 1:45:44Speaker 5: only it was the only thing he was to Bill
- 1:45:48Speaker 5: was respectful. And yet Bill would shoot Mike down for
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: some of the questions he asked very often.
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: Ye, so much so that it would get guys like
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: Folker upset, Why are we treating Mike reas?
- 1:45:58Speaker 6: I would actually love Bill versus Mike Grease, Like, not
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: that it was versus necessarily, but I just that whole
- 1:46:05Speaker 6: like back and forth because Mike is so nice. It's like,
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: how how are you mean to that guy?
- 1:46:10Speaker 10: Right?
- 1:46:10Speaker 6: And then it would it would go against like every
- 1:46:12Speaker 6: fiber and Bill's beinglers like that's it's almost like question.
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: It hearts so much more when it comes from you, Mike.
- 1:46:19Speaker 7: I just I hope other teams have their Mike Greasis,
- 1:46:21Speaker 7: like I wonder that with other two Other teams have
- 1:46:23Speaker 7: someone who is just one of a kind of the level,
- 1:46:26Speaker 7: you know, Like I mean, there are certainly guys who
- 1:46:28Speaker 7: asked tough questions and come at it kind of hard.
- 1:46:29Speaker 7: There are other people that ask really soft, non topical
- 1:46:32Speaker 7: questions that are kind of out of left field. But
- 1:46:34Speaker 7: I feel like he always makes sure that you stay
- 1:46:37Speaker 7: on course and keep the main thing the main thing.
- 1:46:40Speaker 7: I think that's what Mike is really good.
- 1:46:41Speaker 5: In Arizona, they named the Whole press Box after one
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: of their former medium memos, Schoenfeld. Is that what his
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: name was?
- 1:46:51Speaker 7: Did you notice that when you were there for two
- 1:46:52Speaker 7: of your Super Bowls, Paul, Yeah, it's.
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: All over the I can't think of the guy's name now, okay,
- 1:47:01Speaker 4: and I'm not thinking of this guy. I don't know
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: if you know it was someone who passed away?
- 1:47:05Speaker 6: Was the spot that Malcolm Butler picked off? Russell Wilson.
- 1:47:08Speaker 6: I almost posted that picture, but ten other people beat
- 1:47:12Speaker 6: me to it.
- 1:47:13Speaker 5: So what else anything else coming out of practice that
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: we should know about? Is there a chance that so
- 1:47:20Speaker 5: they were in shells today, right, any chance that there's
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: a way to get that feel house down to like
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: five degrees and they practice in there.
- 1:47:29Speaker 6: Well, if they stood like underneath you know how like
- 1:47:33Speaker 6: that like the helipad, right, Yeah, and there's like the
- 1:47:36Speaker 6: overhanging like area that it's like almost like a like
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: a modular that hangs over there. Underneath there is like
- 1:47:44Speaker 6: really cold because you're in the shade and it's like
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: a wind tunnel under there. So they could just like
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: maybe do a walk through under there or something and
- 1:47:52Speaker 6: that probably drops it by like ten degrees. Like once
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: we got out in the sun, it actually wasn't all
- 1:47:56Speaker 6: that bad today. It was pretty pretty nice out for
- 1:47:59Speaker 6: this time of year.
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: No, it's a forty eight degrees. Yeah, what I would
- 1:48:03Speaker 5: call mild.
- 1:48:04Speaker 6: I would say it was thirty eight degrees. Underneath that that.
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: Modular, but still that's warm compared to what they're going
- 1:48:10Speaker 5: to face in Buffalo. Do you feel that there's been
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: too much talk of the cold today?
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: Yes, I guess because it's like like we're we're not
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: in Miami here, like you know, like the other day
- 1:48:22Speaker 6: we were out at practice and it was freezing like
- 1:48:24Speaker 6: it was I think it was Thursday or Friday of Thursday,
- 1:48:27Speaker 6: I think of last week and it was Kendrick Bourne
- 1:48:31Speaker 6: said it was the coldest practice he's ever been a
- 1:48:33Speaker 6: part of.
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: He I agree with Mike and Evan on this. If
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: it's just cold, and again we're not talking about like
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: Tennessee three divisional playoff cold where it's like minus four fahrenheit,
- 1:48:46Speaker 4: you know not. But if it's just cold, well that's
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: what you were in New England. It's cold. It's cold
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: here and it's cold there. But Buffalo usually but this
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: windy Buffalo usually brings other stuff to the equation which
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: makes it a bad weather game. You know, wind or
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: snow or something and comes out of nowhere.
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: You get hit with one of those toys that they
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: throw out.
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: Cold hard marital aid.
- 1:49:11Speaker 7: If ye really manager that setting an unfair precedent.
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: Do you remember the game that we were there in
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: two thousands?
- 1:49:19Speaker 5: It's ready, it's a breakup device. What's that, Paul?
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: That's why I ever did it. I just wanted to
- 1:49:25Speaker 4: talk football.
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: What's up?
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: The game that we were there Bill's first year in
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: two thousand when we ended up, like you know, Bill
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: was like, you know, we're going and some of the
- 1:49:38Speaker 4: players got off the plane. Remember I got in trouble.
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: But remember that that wasn't necessarily supposed to be like
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: this word, you know, terrible game, And all of a
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: sudden it's like in the middle of the game you
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: could hardly see the field from the press box. It
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: was like still blowing all over the place. Like somehow
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: we got out of there that night.
- 1:49:54Speaker 7: Yeah, sweet, you said guys got off the plane they
- 1:49:56Speaker 7: didn't want to.
- 1:49:56Speaker 4: Fly ty Law, Troy Brown and someone else.
- 1:49:59Speaker 5: Yeah that was the Canadian border.
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: Yeah, Tyl got arrested. Yeah, because his cousins and.
- 1:50:07Speaker 5: His cousin's gym bag.
- 1:50:09Speaker 7: But was that they got off because they didn't want
- 1:50:10Speaker 7: to fly.
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: In they were They literally asked can we can we
- 1:50:14Speaker 5: I don't feel comfortable come home tomorrow or drive home
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: because they were scared of So it was Terry Glenn
- 1:50:19Speaker 5: ty Law and Troy Troy Brown.
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: He's like big football players.
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: I'm flying.
- 1:50:24Speaker 5: I'm just imagine like Cells was a notoriously bad fly,
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: like to the point where it made him feel better
- 1:50:30Speaker 5: to sit up with the pilot in the cockpit, which
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: you can't do it after nine to eleven they won't
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: allow that anymore. But he used to sit up with
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: the pilot.
- 1:50:39Speaker 7: How long after those guys got off the plane where
- 1:50:40Speaker 7: they like, so you want to get a car and
- 1:50:42Speaker 7: drive to New England and hold up?
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: No?
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: They they they had Canada. Yeah, they had a night
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: on Sync. Yeah Canada.
- 1:50:52Speaker 4: Yeah, so that's a good win too. That was a
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: good win that day.
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: That's your practice report.
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: You to go thirteen to ten overtime, if I'm not mistaken.
- 1:51:01Speaker 6: A lot of talk at practice today, a lot of chatter, chatter,
- 1:51:05Speaker 6: scuttle butts. You know, state of the team.
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: Isn't that ironic? There was a lot of There was
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: a lot of media chatter on the one time that
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: Fred didn't ask what the media chap.
- 1:51:15Speaker 6: That's why I brought it up a lot of like,
- 1:51:17Speaker 6: how are we going to fix this?
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: Who's together?
- 1:51:19Speaker 7: Who's got the answers?
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: Well? Is it the media's job to fix it?
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: It's just it's just it's just amazing. How are we
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: going to fix this? Yeah, we can't cover job. This
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: is not what God put us on this earth to do.
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: It's not our job. But we do it anyway, and
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: we take on that response we only covered DNAs.
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: What did you think of? What current? Did you happen
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: to listen to Current? Last night? He was talking about
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: I heard I saw two things of note that everyone's
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: harping on today. One that Rabel would be interested in
- 1:51:47Speaker 5: coaching here, but the second that the Patriots need a
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: football czar, someone that oversees everything the coach, the GM
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: or the you know, Elliott's job, whatever title that is,
- 1:51:59Speaker 5: but a football president slash zar that looks over all
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: of that. What do you think of that?
- 1:52:04Speaker 10: So?
- 1:52:04Speaker 6: I actually we kicked around that idea on Catch twenty
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: two after they part ways with Bill, because of how
- 1:52:10Speaker 6: much brain power you lose with Bill walking out of
- 1:52:14Speaker 6: the building. It's not just coaching, it's also how to
- 1:52:17Speaker 6: run an organization and personnel and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:52:21Speaker 6: So we thought of that too, and I you know,
- 1:52:23Speaker 6: I look, I know it hasn't worked out beautifully, but
- 1:52:25Speaker 6: like cam Neely with the Bruins, right, like an ex
- 1:52:28Speaker 6: player of the Patriots who's beloved and who had a
- 1:52:31Speaker 6: great career here and has you know, sort of that
- 1:52:33Speaker 6: kind of quality. It's not necessarily watching like you know,
- 1:52:38Speaker 6: sixth round picks and stuff like that on film, but
- 1:52:42Speaker 6: is making sure that the people that are supposed to
- 1:52:44Speaker 6: be watching the sixth round picks are are doing it
- 1:52:46Speaker 6: and doing it correctly.
- 1:52:47Speaker 4: So the name that we.
- 1:52:48Speaker 6: Actually had thrown out at the time because we weren't
- 1:52:51Speaker 6: sure if like maybe the whole thing with the Titans
- 1:52:53Speaker 6: was that he doesn't he wanted to go upstairs and
- 1:52:55Speaker 6: didn't want to coach anymore, was was vable Ironically, I
- 1:52:59Speaker 6: don't know if we had any other names.
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: But current throughout.
- 1:53:04Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I mean, like that's more like obviously personnel side,
- 1:53:09Speaker 6: but like I definitely could see that.
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: That being.
- 1:53:15Speaker 6: Advantageous to take some of that pressure off of Girod
- 1:53:20Speaker 6: and let him just kind of to me, it's.
- 1:53:22Speaker 5: It's it's to find a good one, and to me
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: would be harder than finding a good head coach or
- 1:53:28Speaker 5: personnel guy, because it's a rare blend of you need
- 1:53:31Speaker 5: to know football and sign and out, you need to
- 1:53:34Speaker 5: know all the mechanations of running a football team. But
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: I think in today's day and age, you also need
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: to know business. Yeah, you know, so in how that
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: all you know comes together and what is the balance
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: between you know, doing what a sponsor wants to do
- 1:53:51Speaker 5: as opposed to you know, what's best for the team,
- 1:53:53Speaker 5: And how do those two things blend. To have somebody
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: that has a feeling for all of that, I think
- 1:54:00Speaker 5: is tough to find somebody that would be good at that.
- 1:54:03Speaker 6: Yeah, And I know I brought up Kim neely because
- 1:54:05Speaker 6: it's close to home. And I know that the Bruins
- 1:54:07Speaker 6: have had varying levels of success depending on who you
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: talk to, right, but like, at the same time, like
- 1:54:12Speaker 6: they've been a pretty solid organization that goes to the
- 1:54:16Speaker 6: playoffs pretty much every single year and it's you know,
- 1:54:19Speaker 6: this that top down sort of thing of it's Neilye T.
- 1:54:23Speaker 6: Sweeney to the coach, like, you know, so that that
- 1:54:26Speaker 6: thing kind of appealed to me at the time just
- 1:54:28Speaker 6: because of how much they lost with Bill from just
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: building a program.
- 1:54:32Speaker 7: You know, your name in the mixer.
- 1:54:35Speaker 6: No, like, I didn't consider it, but I'd probably send
- 1:54:38Speaker 6: my resume and if they.
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: Want to be all right, A couple more phone calls
- 1:54:41Speaker 5: to wrap up the show. Dan's in Connecticut. What's up? Dan? Dan?
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: Dan done? What's going on over there? Dan? Hi? Dan?
- 1:55:01Speaker 21: It's it's Dan, but anyway, it's Dan. I get the
- 1:55:06Speaker 21: counter argument from yesterday. I don't know if you covered
- 1:55:10Speaker 21: its stint, but you guys pretty much came to the
- 1:55:13Speaker 21: consensus that for the upcoming draft we should just draft
- 1:55:18Speaker 21: the best player available just because we have so much,
- 1:55:22Speaker 21: so many holes on a roster. My kind of counter
- 1:55:26Speaker 21: argument with that is, I still think that offensive line
- 1:55:31Speaker 21: is our biggest issue, and I also think it's a
- 1:55:34Speaker 21: unique issue because it seems like one of the only
- 1:55:36Speaker 21: positions you can only really improve through the draft because
- 1:55:42Speaker 21: in my opinion, you know, I'm not an expert or anything,
- 1:55:45Speaker 21: but not many you know, truly starting calivert offensive tackles,
- 1:55:49Speaker 21: especially hit free agency, nor are they really traded. And
- 1:55:54Speaker 21: I think we have enough you know, cap space at
- 1:55:57Speaker 21: this point to sign like a receiver or to sign
- 1:56:00Speaker 21: you know, corner linebacker or something like that. And I
- 1:56:03Speaker 21: also think that our history with wide receivers in the
- 1:56:08Speaker 21: draft has has been pretty poor. So I just I
- 1:56:11Speaker 21: just wanted to hear you guys' thoughts on that. And
- 1:56:15Speaker 21: then one question I have for you guys, because I
- 1:56:19Speaker 21: I know that Mayo is pretty much safe and Van Pelt,
- 1:56:22Speaker 21: you know their jobs are safe until next year. But
- 1:56:25Speaker 21: what do you think the chances are that Covington gets
- 1:56:28Speaker 21: fired because it's pretty obvious her defense has looked awful,
- 1:56:32Speaker 21: you know, even though we have pieces like Gonzalez White.
- 1:56:36Speaker 21: So I always wanted to hear your thoughts on both
- 1:56:38Speaker 21: those two things. And I'll get off now, and that
- 1:56:41Speaker 21: you guys got it.
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not sure I agree with his supremise. I
- 1:56:46Speaker 5: think both coordinators. The drum beats are pretty loud for
- 1:56:49Speaker 5: both of them. I think both are one or I
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: could go, you know, so I agree. Yeah, there's no
- 1:56:57Speaker 5: way if I'm the Crafts that I can look at
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: what happened this year and say, oh, everything's fine, everybody
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: comes back. There's there's got to be changes, and we
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: talked about it, Evan, you weren't here, but unfortunately we
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: don't have the information needed to make those decisions in
- 1:57:15Speaker 5: the off season. The crafts I assume do. And so
- 1:57:21Speaker 5: for whatever is the main reasons for the demise of
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: the defense, for whatever is the main reason for what
- 1:57:27Speaker 5: some people think is the lack of creativity in the
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: game calling, there are answers and changes have to be
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: made to address those things. So I don't agree with
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: this premise that Van Pelt is safe. I think he's
- 1:57:45Speaker 5: done a good job overall. But again I don't have
- 1:57:49Speaker 5: the information that people downstairs have.
- 1:57:52Speaker 7: I mean, avp to me is the only one who
- 1:57:54Speaker 7: you have some kind of tangible proof of some progress
- 1:57:57Speaker 7: and some positive development. It's been inconsistent and it's been
- 1:58:01Speaker 7: really up and down, especially the last month or two.
- 1:58:04Speaker 7: But he's only when you feel like you have any
- 1:58:06Speaker 7: kind of proof positive that you saw some guy you saw.
- 1:58:09Speaker 7: Drake may get better, you know. I mean, I've seen
- 1:58:11Speaker 7: visible improvement from him. It hasn't put them over at
- 1:58:13Speaker 7: the top and translated to wins.
- 1:58:15Speaker 5: And we think that that's because of Van Pelt. But
- 1:58:19Speaker 5: those in the know might be saying, no, he's that
- 1:58:21Speaker 5: good that you know he's good.
- 1:58:24Speaker 7: One other thought I had I just was brought back
- 1:58:26Speaker 7: to when Paul you went through and did the quarterback
- 1:58:28Speaker 7: thing where you studied like where quarterbacks are taken and
- 1:58:30Speaker 7: kind of I think the result was you need to
- 1:58:32Speaker 7: take him in this certain range. I'd be curious to
- 1:58:34Speaker 7: do that study with tackles too, as of late, like,
- 1:58:37Speaker 7: are there done it?
- 1:58:38Speaker 6: Did you do the tackles?
- 1:58:39Speaker 7: I mean, are there gems? I mean is it unreasonable
- 1:58:41Speaker 7: to think, like, look, I haven't got one in the
- 1:58:43Speaker 7: first fifteen picks.
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: Now that I haven't done, I did the whole I
- 1:58:47Speaker 4: compared the hit miss rate with quarterbacks to tackles, because
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: there's a conventional wisdom out there that the quarterback is
- 1:58:55Speaker 4: a bigger risk than any other position, and I sort
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: of showed that it's really not. There are a lot
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: of busts at a lot of different positions that go
- 1:59:03Speaker 4: very high in the draft.
- 1:59:04Speaker 5: I know, but when you bust at those other positions,
- 1:59:06Speaker 5: it doesn't set you back, like as if you bust
- 1:59:08Speaker 5: at courte.
- 1:59:09Speaker 4: I disagree. I think what happens is the bust at
- 1:59:11Speaker 4: tackle isn't considered Isaiah Winn isn't considered a bust like
- 1:59:16Speaker 4: a quarterback bust right considered because everybody watches the quarterback
- 1:59:19Speaker 4: play and says he's not completing passes and They're not
- 1:59:23Speaker 4: necessarily doing that for the tackle because the tackle he
- 1:59:25Speaker 4: started every game he's not good. Some call him, you know,
- 1:59:28Speaker 4: the floor is, you know, a pro Bowl.
- 1:59:31Speaker 5: Guard right well, right and handled correctly.
- 1:59:33Speaker 4: Correct. But that's just like sort of an example of
- 1:59:36Speaker 4: what I'm talking about. Like, and I know that Win
- 1:59:38Speaker 4: was a you know, an end of the first round guy,
- 1:59:41Speaker 4: but like, I don't think people look at Kenny Pickett
- 1:59:44Speaker 4: and Isaiah Winn similarly. Kenny Pickett is a much bigger
- 1:59:48Speaker 4: bust in the in the eyes of most than Isaiah
- 1:59:51Speaker 4: Win whereas they're both last half of the first round
- 1:59:54Speaker 4: guys who didn't really pan out. Yeah, do you know
- 1:59:57Speaker 4: what I mean?
- 1:59:58Speaker 6: I just think to the point about the draft, like
- 2:00:00Speaker 6: everybody is an agreement that offensive line is their biggest need.
- 2:00:03Speaker 6: But you can't create Joe Thomas. Like it just the
- 2:00:06Speaker 6: if you're picking third overall, and let's say maybe they
- 2:00:10Speaker 6: grade out Calvin Banks or Will Campbell and he it
- 2:00:13Speaker 6: proves to grade out worthy of the third overall pick.
- 2:00:16Speaker 6: But if he grades out as your sixteenth best player
- 2:00:18Speaker 6: on your board and you're taking him third overall, Like
- 2:00:21Speaker 6: that's how bad teams stay bad, right, And like that's
- 2:00:24Speaker 6: what happened, and you know, I keep throwing him under
- 2:00:26Speaker 6: the bus, but that's what happened with Cole Strange. They
- 2:00:29Speaker 6: needed a guard. Bill felt like they needed a guard,
- 2:00:31Speaker 6: and they overdrafted a guard and it set them back
- 2:00:34Speaker 6: and set them back bigley, and like if it.
- 2:00:36Speaker 5: Could have had him later and gotten a better first run.
- 2:00:39Speaker 6: So yeah, no one's in disagreement that tackle is their
- 2:00:43Speaker 6: biggest need.
- 2:00:44Speaker 4: Yeah, by far.
- 2:00:45Speaker 6: But if there isn't a tackle worthy of the pick,
- 2:00:47Speaker 6: then you're you're out of luck.
- 2:00:49Speaker 5: All right, we'll do one more call. We're a little late,
- 2:00:51Speaker 5: but we'll get Anthony in because he tried earlier. And
- 2:00:53Speaker 5: what's up, Anthony?
- 2:00:55Speaker 3: Hey, how's it going? First and foremost stop a big
- 2:00:58Speaker 3: ben of the So thank you guys so much for
- 2:01:01Speaker 3: what you do every week. Thanks Thursday, Hey anytime. So
- 2:01:08Speaker 3: I kind of wanted to touch on, you know, the
- 2:01:10Speaker 3: guy that polls regarding Elliott Wolf saying he's got to go.
- 2:01:14Speaker 3: I gotta disagree. I mean, I feel like we got
- 2:01:15Speaker 3: to give everybody the same grades across the board and
- 2:01:18Speaker 3: be consistent with that.
- 2:01:19Speaker 10: I feel like when it.
- 2:01:21Speaker 3: Comes to Mayo, I mean, well, first year guys, it's
- 2:01:24Speaker 3: really kind of unrealistic expectation and heard this type of
- 2:01:27Speaker 3: roster with all these glaring holes and expect any type
- 2:01:30Speaker 3: of situation where we were gonna like do anything good
- 2:01:32Speaker 3: this year. I feel like Elliot Wolf did a lot
- 2:01:35Speaker 3: of the the obvious choices, Like we retained a lot
- 2:01:38Speaker 3: of guys that we needed to. You look at Hunter, Henry,
- 2:01:40Speaker 3: he's having a good year. You're looking off the new Hooper,
- 2:01:43Speaker 3: You're doing pretty good. I mean, he hit a lot
- 2:01:47Speaker 3: of the checkpoints, like the obvious ones. I know, not
- 2:01:49Speaker 3: everything really panned out. I know the draft is kind
- 2:01:52Speaker 3: of a little wonky for lack of a better term,
- 2:01:54Speaker 3: with like Kata Wallace going down in and out and
- 2:01:57Speaker 3: Leydon Robinson. But I mean, I don't know. Don't you
- 2:01:59Speaker 3: guys think that the expectation, Like you guys like we
- 2:02:02Speaker 3: should have our expectations and let's see what they do
- 2:02:04Speaker 3: in year two.
- 2:02:04Speaker 5: No, I tend to agree with you. The only question
- 2:02:07Speaker 5: I had on Wolf Anthony was how much say did
- 2:02:11Speaker 5: he have prior to this Because we're all in agreement
- 2:02:14Speaker 5: that the roster isn't good, Well, who created that roster?
- 2:02:18Speaker 5: And that's the only thing.
- 2:02:19Speaker 4: My thing isn't about expectations. I expected to have a
- 2:02:22Speaker 4: record and similar to what they have. Yeah, they didn't
- 2:02:26Speaker 4: get players. They didn't bring in players to help the team,
- 2:02:32Speaker 4: pretty much across the board, free agents, draft, retaining free agents,
- 2:02:38Speaker 4: like there's more misses than hits. Yeah, I don't you
- 2:02:42Speaker 4: know whatever that translated to in the record. Yeah. I
- 2:02:44Speaker 4: think Anthony's right. We all expected it to be a
- 2:02:47Speaker 4: tough record. But I think we all thought, Okay, we're
- 2:02:50Speaker 4: four and thirteen. Whatever the record ends up being, can
- 2:02:53Speaker 4: we show some improvement? All right?
- 2:02:55Speaker 6: We happened, and now they have one hundred and thirty
- 2:02:56Speaker 6: two million dollars in cap space and probably another.
- 2:03:00Speaker 5: Top three pick. So Elliott Wolf did his job. All right,
- 2:03:05Speaker 5: What do we got? We got playbook coming up? All right,
- 2:03:08Speaker 5: playbook coming up with John Side. Yep. We have our
- 2:03:11Speaker 5: company party tonight, so we'll have some stories tomorrow to
- 2:03:14Speaker 5: talk about on the show at noon.
