- 0:04Madonna stripped of her clothes. Welcome to Mark and Pete.
- 0:09Even global superstar different series doesn't come with a
- 0:13decent lock. Yes, we are Mark and Pete 2
- 0:16blokes with half an opinion. Now here's our first thought.
- 0:21When a pop star completes their shows but somebody then steals
- 0:26their clothes, it might be difficult to strike a pose from
- 0:30head to their twinkle toes. Yes, well, Madonna, she's
- 0:34probably feeling a little bit chilly at the moment for a
- 0:37number of reasons. Why?
- 0:39Well, quite simply, her entire outfit has been stolen.
- 0:44All of her vintage costume pieces went missing following a
- 0:47recent festival. Now, Mr. Pete, we are fans of
- 0:51Madonna. We like her music.
- 0:53We even like her stage shows. But what's also iconic about
- 0:57Madonna is some of the outfits that she's worn through her
- 1:00history and and career. Now, I will say the very idea of
- 1:05somebody stealing a garment probably doesn't seem that
- 1:08really, you know, important. But for somebody like Madonna,
- 1:11it's rather iconic. I ask you, I notice that your
- 1:16wardrobe is a little bit more bulging than usual.
- 1:19What's? What's what's your interest?
- 1:23Yes, it is interesting. Wardrobe saga.
- 1:27Yes, they the costumes that you will have, some have become
- 1:31iconic. The the pointed bra of course
- 1:35being the most noticeable and eye-catching in many senses of
- 1:38the word. They, I'm not so sure that her
- 1:41look inspired, but maybe for a short period her look inspired
- 1:48young girls to take up a look, but it's more that they were
- 1:52striking like iconic pieces of of, of art.
- 1:57I guess her costumes, as as you mentioned, we are big fans on
- 2:01this show, but it's interesting how they they did become part of
- 2:07the zeitgeist, part of the culture, the costumes worn by
- 2:11Madonna. It is sad just as a passing
- 2:13moment that she doesn't seem to have moved on from that early
- 2:17period in her life. She could have aged gracefully,
- 2:20but. I.
- 2:22I'm just saying I don't think that's what she's doing.
- 2:24That's at least not in a public persona and storing.
- 2:28I mean the Bible says famous quote from the Bible was Matthew
- 2:316 verse 19 which says do not store up for yourselves
- 2:34treasures on earth where moths and vermin destroy and where
- 2:39thieves break in and steal. Almost describing this moment,
- 2:43holding on to her past and yet it was stolen from her.
- 2:47You can't you you got to move on.
- 2:49It was it's OK that that those are important parts of the
- 2:54culture, but she and we need to move on from the 80s.
- 2:59Well, that's maybe true, but let's be honest, Madonna is a
- 3:03very successful pop artist and also actress as well.
- 3:07I mean, she has also appeared in many, many great films in recent
- 3:11times or certainly over the years.
- 3:14I mean, I have a slight difference of opinion in terms
- 3:17of her persona. I think she's matured a little
- 3:19bit more. I don't think that she looks
- 3:21like, you know, a mature individual trying to be a
- 3:24teenager. I think I think she's sort of
- 3:26managing that well. But what I do think coming back
- 3:28to the the the problem. Which is.
- 3:32Well, indeed. And that is this is that she
- 3:35said in a recent interview, the these clothes that costumes that
- 3:39were stolen, these aren't just clothes, they are part of my
- 3:42history, as she was saying, and that's perfectly reasonable.
- 3:45She is hoping and praying that someone a kind soul, as she was
- 3:50saying, and not the kind soul that was stolen.
- 3:52But anyway could find these items and and get them back to
- 3:55her team. And I think that, you know, when
- 3:57you, when you see these outfits, the outfits are particularly
- 4:00special to the singer because she wore them the same boots,
- 4:04corset and jacket during her Coachella performance 20 years
- 4:08ago. Now again, the, the, the point
- 4:10here around this is that when you've got something that is so
- 4:14synonymous with you, it, it, it's, it is it is really
- 4:20intrinsic to your whole performance as a sonar.
- 4:23Yeah. And I do think they they are,
- 4:26they are important. I wasn't trying to be
- 4:29discouraged about that. I think they're part of part of
- 4:31culture. It would be fascinating, just as
- 4:33it's fascinating see the actual armour worn by Henry the eighth.
- 4:38I don't know why my mind went to him, but by historical figure
- 4:41you watch a almost the. Opposite analogy, isn't it Henry
- 4:46the Eighth of Madonna? I never really saw them in the
- 4:48same line, but. They've never been seen in the
- 4:51same room Marks. That's true.
- 4:53What that is? Well, yeah, I just thought of a
- 4:56a figure whose clothing was on show that's saying people
- 4:59thought, Oh yes, you know, he was stock each other.
- 5:01But quite sure that's what your opinion ends up being when you
- 5:05see that. And it's just fascinating seeing
- 5:07this. And I think going into the
- 5:08future people will still want to see those costumes.
- 5:12Sadly, at the moment they can't imagine if Henry the Eighth's
- 5:15armour had been stolen. Well yes, him going naked into
- 5:19battle does sort of conjure an image.
- 5:22But it's. Scary into battle is another
- 5:24one. But the other thing as well, I
- 5:27know that there has been a few costume faux pas, shall we say,
- 5:31as you mentioned with Madonna a couple of years ago when she
- 5:36fell off the stage because she got in town gold with one of her
- 5:39drapes was one that springs to mind.
- 5:42But the the fact is, is that she she relies on, you know, shock
- 5:48value. And I think that, you know, I
- 5:50don't think that's going to go away with her stage performances
- 5:52and any of her music for that matter.
- 5:55But coming back to the the lost items, I was sort of wondering
- 5:58what on earth would you do with them?
- 6:00I mean, you, it's not going to be easy to sell them on eBay, is
- 6:03it? I mean or no, I or what else is
- 6:06your? Intention.
- 6:08No. I'm pretty sure that they were
- 6:12targeted for a collector. I think that it's surprising as
- 6:17not as a collector myself, of anything really, I know, but
- 6:22peoples have such a fascination with a collection.
- 6:24They just want to be the one who's got that piece in the
- 6:28collection. I'm pretty sure that that must
- 6:32be the case, because why else would you do it?
- 6:35Well, indeed. Well, look, listeners, do you
- 6:38have some insights what's going on here?
- 6:40And hopefully we can get back to the real Material Girl.
