- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks Mike. We're back with cracking Head coach Lane Lambert
- 0:03Speaker 1: Lane following a couple of months ago in Washington, d C.
- 0:06Speaker 1: In the second game of that back to back, Just
- 0:07Speaker 1: take us through those thoughts, your thoughts on that game
- 0:10Speaker 1: in a game in which you said you didn't quite
- 0:13Speaker 1: like how the Kraken played, but you still do like
- 0:15Speaker 1: how this team is buying into the system that you're
- 0:18Speaker 1: trying to develop here.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't like the way we played at all.
- 0:22Speaker 2: You know, I thought there was a lot of things
- 0:26Speaker 2: that we have been working on from day one that
- 0:29Speaker 2: we didn't do, and you can't pick and choose when
- 0:38Speaker 2: you're going to do them, and so I thought the
- 0:42Speaker 2: game wasn't good, and I thought it was an opportunity
- 0:45Speaker 2: and should be an opportunity for us to learn and
- 0:48Speaker 2: grow from that. You know, we expect to win every game,
- 0:53Speaker 2: and we can't win if we don't buy into the
- 0:57Speaker 2: way we're you know, the way we want to play.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We've done a really good job of it for the
- 1:01Speaker 2: most part. And you know that was that was a
- 1:06Speaker 2: game where for me, certain certain areas of that game
- 1:11Speaker 2: were completely unacceptable.
- 1:12Speaker 1: With it being the second game of a back to back,
- 1:15Speaker 1: your first back to back this season. Do you feel
- 1:17Speaker 1: that that situation played any role into that effort for
- 1:21Speaker 1: your team?
- 1:23Speaker 2: I don't care if it's back to back, it can't
- 1:27Speaker 2: And again, this was you know, this is a good
- 1:30Speaker 2: learning experience for a hockey team.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Berkeley Catton two games in a row, he's been on
- 1:34Speaker 1: that top line, and Matty Benier's earlier today has said
- 1:37Speaker 1: that he's liked his game and he's doing a lot
- 1:40Speaker 1: of positive things that have gotten him to this level.
- 1:43Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on Katon's first two games in
- 1:45Speaker 1: the NHL.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought I thought he's been I thought he's
- 1:48Speaker 2: been pretty good. You know, the always the I guess
- 1:54Speaker 2: challenge with a young player coming in is you know,
- 1:57Speaker 2: where is he positionally, because you know, in the National
- 2:00Speaker 2: High con League, if you're three feet out of position,
- 2:03Speaker 2: it's gonna hurt you. It just happens so fast. And
- 2:07Speaker 2: I think for the most part, he's done a pretty
- 2:09Speaker 2: good job of that. And I've really you know, I've
- 2:13Speaker 2: really liked the way he you know, he's made some
- 2:15Speaker 2: good plays. He's he's on the puck. He wants the puck,
- 2:19Speaker 2: and that's a quality that you can't teach and good
- 2:23Speaker 2: on him to be that way. You know, he made
- 2:25Speaker 2: a great play to Everley after we made it three
- 2:28Speaker 2: to one, which you know, could have made it three
- 2:31Speaker 2: to two, and then you know we had a push coming.
- 2:34Speaker 2: But certainly he's he's made a few plays.
- 2:37Speaker 1: How would you assess the first five games of this
- 2:39Speaker 1: road trip. There's been some good, there's been some areas
- 2:41Speaker 1: that you feel this team needs to work on. Where
- 2:43Speaker 1: do you see this team now going into tonight and
- 2:46Speaker 1: then ultimately finally back home for the next two weeks.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Well, if you look at the trip as a whole,
- 2:51Speaker 2: you know, you can always you know, you sort of
- 2:54Speaker 2: gotta you gotta look back to the start of it.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I thought, I thought we played well in Montreal. I
- 2:59Speaker 2: thought we played you know well in Ottawa. I had
- 3:02Speaker 2: opportunities to win those games, you know, got a point
- 3:06Speaker 2: out of them. I thought we were really good in
- 3:08Speaker 2: Toronto and not as good in Philadelphia, and certainly not
- 3:12Speaker 2: good in Washington. So overall I assess the trip is,
- 3:15Speaker 2: you know, if we if we come out and play
- 3:18Speaker 2: the way we play tonight and win this hockey game.
- 3:21Speaker 2: You know, a five hundred road trip on an extremely
- 3:25Speaker 2: long road trip by the way, you know, to me,
- 3:29Speaker 2: that'll be a positive for us, and you know, and
- 3:34Speaker 2: we'll go from there. I think there's been way more
- 3:37Speaker 2: positive on this road trip than there has been negative.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And we have to remember that, you know, you've got
- 3:42Speaker 2: to you got to also understand that, you know, it
- 3:45Speaker 2: is a five game block, and you know the last
- 3:50Speaker 2: game you can't you know, it's in the back of
- 3:52Speaker 2: your mind. It wasn't very good. But certainly there's been
- 3:54Speaker 2: some good things happening for this hockey team.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Looking at tonight, you take on Winnipeg, They've won five
- 3:59Speaker 1: games in a row. Like Washington, they returned the bulk
- 4:02Speaker 1: of their team from last season, so not a whole
- 4:04Speaker 1: lot of holes in their lineup. What type of issues
- 4:07Speaker 1: do you see the crack and having to overcome tonight.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Well, you know, they're a good hockey team, like you said,
- 4:14Speaker 2: top tier team. You know, they won thirty games at
- 4:18Speaker 2: home last last year, you know, lost seven. They're big.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You know, they're a veteran group that understands the importance
- 4:29Speaker 2: of certain situations. And you know they're going to be
- 4:33Speaker 2: a challenge for us because we're we're gonna have to play,
- 4:36Speaker 2: We're gonna have to be at the top of our game,
- 4:39Speaker 2: and we're gonna have to be prepared to battle and
- 4:44Speaker 2: win battles against the team that you know is accustomed
- 4:47Speaker 2: to doing that. So I want us to play fast.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I think we're faster than there, and I think that
- 4:57Speaker 2: if we use our speed to our advantage, that'll give
- 5:00Speaker 2: us a leg.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Any friendly family wagers on with you and your nephew
- 5:06Speaker 1: Brad playing across the.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Way, No, we never, we never. We had dinner last
- 5:12Speaker 2: night over at my brother's house with you know, with
- 5:14Speaker 2: my mothers in town from Saskatchewan and all that, so
- 5:17Speaker 2: it was nice and good to see him, you know, playing.
- 5:22Speaker 2: You know, we'll but no wagers, just we just want
- 5:25Speaker 2: to win the hockey game. Awesome, all right,
