Latest / DEEP INSIGHT / The Democratic Party of old has been 'eliminated' - Jason Chaffetz
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: My genuine hope was that the lesson the Democrats learned
- 0:03Speaker 1: from the twenty twenty four election is maybe we should
- 0:06Speaker 1: stop being so crazy. And unfortunately, the lesson that Democrats
- 0:11Speaker 1: seem to have learned from the twenty twenty four election
- 0:13Speaker 1: is to lean into the most radical fringes of their party.
- 0:18Speaker 2: That's Vice President Vance with a warning about where the
- 0:20Speaker 2: Democratic Party is moving. A new wave of socialists and
- 0:24Speaker 2: progressive candidates has been scoring key primary wins across the country.
- 0:29Speaker 2: As Brian Yenis was just telling us, debate is growing
- 0:32Speaker 2: over what that means for moderate Democrats. Let's bring in
- 0:36Speaker 2: Jason Chase, Let's Fox News contributor and former Republican Utah congressman. Congressman,
- 0:42Speaker 2: thanks for being with us. When you look out there
- 0:45Speaker 2: at the landscape of who's running, I mean, Utah is
- 0:49Speaker 2: not likely to elect a Democratic socialist anytime soon, but
- 0:52Speaker 2: it seems like a lot of states are ready to
- 0:54Speaker 2: do that.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Why, oh, you'd be surprised. They jerry mannered this district
- 1:00Speaker 3: in Utah, and there's a chance that on the primary
- 1:04Speaker 3: next week that they're going to elect somebody who's pretty radical.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Look the Democratic Party of old, the old Blue dog Democrats.
- 1:11Speaker 3: They're gone. They've been eliminated. Bernie Sanders, who was sort
- 1:16Speaker 3: of almost a joke when I was in Congress years ago,
- 1:19Speaker 3: is leading this party, and he's got a radical view
- 1:22Speaker 3: of America. They want to destroy and get dismantled the police.
- 1:28Speaker 3: They want to open up our borders, and they want
- 1:30Speaker 3: to give everything away for free. And so there's no
- 1:34Speaker 3: responsibility in that party. It's just gimme, gimme, gimme, and
- 1:38Speaker 3: they all believe that they need to raise taxes and
- 1:40Speaker 3: spend more money. That's what they believe in. And it's
- 1:43Speaker 3: working in some of these radical left wing cities, but
- 1:48Speaker 3: it's trying to spread a coast to coast, and the
- 1:51Speaker 3: mainstream Democrats of old, they don't stand up, they don't
- 1:54Speaker 3: have a message.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Talking about left wing cities, Nicholas Berg has the unenviable
- 2:00Speaker 2: job of being the chairman of the GOP in San Francisco.
- 2:05Speaker 2: He talks about why he thinks socialism is on the
- 2:08Speaker 2: rise in this country.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Listen, I think the young people are falling for this,
- 2:14Speaker 4: if you will, because we sold them a lie, and
- 2:17Speaker 4: the lie was if you go to college and you
- 2:20Speaker 4: rack up this huge amount of debt, you're going to
- 2:23Speaker 4: be able to have the American dream. You're going to
- 2:24Speaker 4: be able to buy a house and have a family
- 2:27Speaker 4: and you know, not live paycheck to paycheck, and that
- 2:31Speaker 4: turned out to not be true.
- 2:33Speaker 2: What do you think about that analysis? I mean, there
- 2:35Speaker 2: are a lot of people who graduated from college with
- 2:37Speaker 2: degrees that really don't help them a lot in this
- 2:41Speaker 2: modern world.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I think that's part of it. I think what Nicholas
- 2:45Speaker 3: Berg said it makes some sense here. Look, a big
- 2:50Speaker 3: question for America is how do we live in an
- 2:53Speaker 3: affordable an affordable world. And far too much of our
- 2:57Speaker 3: education over the last couple decades it's now coming home
- 3:01Speaker 3: to roost. And there are people out there that don't
- 3:03Speaker 3: have the skill sets in order to make them productive
- 3:07Speaker 3: in today's society. And so you had some massive government
- 3:11Speaker 3: spending by Obama and Biden that made inflation rampant, and
- 3:16Speaker 3: it consequently made it very difficult to actually do something.
- 3:20Speaker 3: But the bottom line here, John is Democrats, Hey, everything's free.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Everybody should just get the instantaneous gratification that you get
- 3:29Speaker 3: on Instagram, and that is just have it now. You
- 3:32Speaker 3: don't really have to work. In fact, you have to
- 3:34Speaker 3: work less. That is not the way the world works,
- 3:38Speaker 3: and the Democrats don't have a plan, and Republicans actually
- 3:42Speaker 3: do have a plan. So the craziness of the left
- 3:44Speaker 3: versus somebody who can actually build something, that's what I
- 3:48Speaker 3: think we're going to see a play out in the midterms.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I want to change the topic a little bit and
- 3:53Speaker 2: talk about what's going on in the Senate with the
- 3:56Speaker 2: Save America Act. First, a poll from Fox News twenty
- 4:01Speaker 2: twenty five September asked whether you should be required to
- 4:06Speaker 2: show ID in order to vote. All voters eighty four
- 4:11Speaker 2: percent said yes, Republicans ninety six percent, Even seventy percent
- 4:15Speaker 2: of Democrats said you should be required to show a
- 4:19Speaker 2: state or federal ID to be able to vote. Why
- 4:23Speaker 2: is the Senate having so much trouble approving an idea
- 4:27Speaker 2: like this.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Now? Because the Democrats, Chuck Schumer and others, they need
- 4:32Speaker 3: people that are here in this country illegally to be
- 4:34Speaker 3: able to vote. It's about being able to cheat and
- 4:37Speaker 3: be able to get people who are not full citizens
- 4:41Speaker 3: to actually vote. Democrats have even taken the position in
- 4:44Speaker 3: places like California, you don't even need to be a
- 4:46Speaker 3: citizen to actually be on the ballot. In certain races.
- 4:50Speaker 3: They want them to be law enforcement officials. And these
- 4:52Speaker 3: are people that are here legally. So the craziness of
- 4:56Speaker 3: the left. I think it's all about the integrity of
- 4:58Speaker 3: the vote. There's a lot of dis discussion about vote
- 5:01Speaker 3: by mail and other issues. It's about the integrity of
- 5:04Speaker 3: the vote. Every other nation on the planet requires ID
- 5:08Speaker 3: except the United States. You have to get it to
- 5:11Speaker 3: if you have a National Parks pass. I tried to
- 5:13Speaker 3: go to Zion National Park. I had to show my
- 5:16Speaker 3: driver's license, my valid driver's license to prove that I
- 5:20Speaker 3: actually had a National Parks Pass to get into Zion's
- 5:23Speaker 3: National Park. That's how. But no Democrats, Oh, you shouldn't
- 5:27Speaker 3: have to have a voter ID. Are you kid me?
- 5:30Speaker 3: That's going to suppress the vote. It's a lie and
- 5:34Speaker 3: a Save America Act. I'm with Mike Lee on this one.
- 5:36Speaker 3: He is absolutely right.
- 5:38Speaker 2: All right, let's play that from Mike Lee what he
- 5:40Speaker 2: told Shannon Breen this morning on Fox News Sunday.
- 5:44Speaker 5: Listen, the truth is, we haven't tried what I believe.
- 5:48Speaker 2: It takes to get the Save.
- 5:49Speaker 3: America Act passed, which is to put it.
- 5:51Speaker 5: On the floor and to say we're going to debate.
- 5:53Speaker 3: This four weeks.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Nothing sharpens the mind, nothing hastiens agreement. Nothing will bring
- 5:59Speaker 5: about face saving and perfecting amendments quite like the obligation
- 6:04Speaker 5: to stay in and debate something that is popular with
- 6:07Speaker 5: the American people. When filibustering senators trying to slow it
- 6:10Speaker 5: down are becoming steadily less popular in their arguments.
- 6:15Speaker 2: So senators are willing to defy the wishes of their
- 6:18Speaker 2: voters to keep this thing from becoming long.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Senator John Thune, the majority of leader, the majority leaders
- 6:26Speaker 3: should keep keep people there and make them work through
- 6:30Speaker 3: the weekend. Heaven forbid, the Senate actually have to work
- 6:32Speaker 3: hard overnight into the weekend. Those types of things actually
- 6:36Speaker 3: debated on the floor. Let's do that in perpetuity until
- 6:40Speaker 3: we actually vote and actually get it passed. Mike Lee
- 6:43Speaker 3: is one hundred and ten percent right. It requires no
- 6:46Speaker 3: changes to the Senate rules. You just can't just raise
- 6:50Speaker 3: your finger and say, oh, I want to go home,
- 6:52Speaker 3: I object to this. That's the Senate needs to debate.
- 6:55Speaker 3: They're supposed to be the most deliberative body on the
- 6:58Speaker 3: face of the planet, but it's not the way they
- 7:00Speaker 3: act all right.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Fox News contributor former Congressman Jason Chafits of Utah. Thank you.
