- 0:11Speaker 1: Wow, welcome to foul Territory, a player's only addition.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Today we kicked all the nerds out, Eric Kraftz, Todd Frazier,
- 0:17Speaker 2: We said, Scott beat it, Alana beat it, Tricia beat it.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Any other guest host we had beat it. It's players only.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Players get to run the show today. So welcome to
- 0:26Speaker 2: foul Territory. And we figured we might as well start
- 0:29Speaker 2: with the player in Carlos Narvaias from the Boston Red
- 0:31Speaker 2: So so, Carlos, welcome to the players of the only addition.
- 0:34Speaker 1: You can say whatever you want.
- 0:36Speaker 3: I thank you, guys, love love this opportunity to talk
- 0:39Speaker 3: with players, like, uh for my guys, I watch you play.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I watched Eric play. Eric probably don't remember I was
- 0:46Speaker 3: with him in when he was with the Yankees. I
- 0:49Speaker 3: was so young I was. I always remember you, bro,
- 0:53Speaker 3: when you throw a ball like this, like like like
- 0:55Speaker 3: ninety fifts, just it's trying to thrown problem. It was
- 0:57Speaker 3: like this A wo you got, I mean they got
- 1:00Speaker 3: has a kind of.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Uh. No, he was nice.
- 1:04Speaker 5: He was nice to you because I went down No
- 1:07Speaker 5: it's not you don't look in the mirror, looking the screen,
- 1:11Speaker 5: but I went down to the minor league side with
- 1:14Speaker 5: with the catching coordinator. We were we were doing workouts
- 1:17Speaker 5: with all you guys. I remember all you Chiquitos. They
- 1:19Speaker 5: were all there, just the babies.
- 1:22Speaker 4: That's nice, that'n' nice. That's good.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Did you buy your dinner? Did you buy your sandwich?
- 1:28Speaker 3: No, you stuck to me, but that you want to Yeah,
- 1:31Speaker 3: I appreciate that.
- 1:33Speaker 4: How are you feeling feeling good? Yeah?
- 1:36Speaker 1: Back back spasms?
- 1:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I was, But I was like a couple of
- 1:39Speaker 3: days ago. That was only for like one day, two days.
- 1:42Speaker 3: That's it. It was just I was doing my lifting.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I felt something, But no, I think graceport.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Right now, like you're doing.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I was dumping. Actually I know I was doing. Don't
- 1:53Speaker 4: jump by the way, Yeah, but we had to.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I was doing squads and then jump, trying to trying
- 1:59Speaker 3: to gain more more high So I don't know. I
- 2:01Speaker 3: just I just felt when I went down. I was
- 2:04Speaker 3: of that day. So that was before the Puerto Rico game,
- 2:08Speaker 3: so I just felt that. Didn't went off for the
- 2:11Speaker 3: next day and then I was find the day after.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Making your debut later than say other starting catchers make
- 2:20Speaker 5: their debuts, being older, do you look at it as
- 2:24Speaker 5: I'm still young in the game, or do you look
- 2:26Speaker 5: at it as I'm a veterano, like I'm older than
- 2:29Speaker 5: most of these guys, no matter how many years of
- 2:31Speaker 5: service you have.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I mean, I don't since last year I started a
- 2:36Speaker 3: lot of things. This guy is a rookie. I never
- 2:40Speaker 3: seen myself as a rookie, even though I mean, of course,
- 2:43Speaker 3: with all their respect to everybody, But as soon as
- 2:45Speaker 3: the game started, like I'm saying, as everybody, that's my mindset.
- 2:50Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I think that held me a lot, especially early on
- 2:53Speaker 3: the season last year when I started playing every day,
- 2:57Speaker 3: I know I had to do it.
- 2:58Speaker 4: I got to lead away from my pitcher.
- 3:01Speaker 3: So I never never see myself like as a rookie,
- 3:04Speaker 3: don't matter how how time I was in the game,
- 3:07Speaker 3: It's just okay. As soon as the game started, everybody
- 3:10Speaker 3: is the same. That's my mindset.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I love that.
- 3:14Speaker 6: I think that's a perfect way of going about it.
- 3:16Speaker 6: Just calm your mindset down. Less is more. I want
- 3:19Speaker 6: to talk a little about your pitching staff here. You
- 3:21Speaker 6: got a couple of new guys, Sonny Gray, Rangers, Suarez,
- 3:23Speaker 6: the name a few. Talk a little about have you
- 3:26Speaker 6: been acclimated with them? Have you caught them and and
- 3:29Speaker 6: what do you see from those guys moving forward?
- 3:32Speaker 3: Yeah, super exciting for those additions. I think the picture
- 3:35Speaker 3: stuff last last year was amazing. You see the numbers
- 3:39Speaker 3: throughout all those three guys. You guys is gonna it's
- 3:42Speaker 3: gonna help us big time. Sonny rander Ov. We just
- 3:46Speaker 3: he just came by a couple of seconds ago. I
- 3:49Speaker 3: think they're they're gonna be great. Uh like the stuff
- 3:53Speaker 3: that they have. Everyone everyone is different, uh, I mean
- 3:57Speaker 3: round your he he got a pitch. You know, he's
- 3:59Speaker 3: changed up there. Everything involved you got, you got song
- 4:02Speaker 3: is kind of kind of the same way. But righty,
- 4:05Speaker 3: you know, like they're being they're being in the lead
- 4:07Speaker 3: for a while and you you see their their leadership too,
- 4:10Speaker 3: you know, so we we open to everything. You know,
- 4:14Speaker 3: like he's both of them is being amazing obvious. It's
- 4:18Speaker 3: a different guy. It's a big dude. He he got
- 4:20Speaker 3: he got a lead fast. Weall he go after hitters.
- 4:23Speaker 4: You know. So everyone's different.
- 4:25Speaker 3: But like the pictures start being amazing, the coaching styt
- 4:29Speaker 3: being amazing since last year. I mean I just got
- 4:31Speaker 3: here last year. So but like those three guys is
- 4:35Speaker 3: gonna it's gonna help us big time. The pictures the
- 4:39Speaker 3: starting pitchers leading by bye bye by Garrett and the
- 4:42Speaker 3: relievers guy leading by by by Chappie, two of the
- 4:46Speaker 3: best guys in the lead right now. And I just,
- 4:50Speaker 3: I mean myself just being behind the play for them.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I just, I just I just feel proud to be.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Honest, Carlos is your favorite guy to catch?
- 4:57Speaker 5: I cannot say that, yes, no, no, you have to
- 5:01Speaker 5: the answer is whoever's starting.
- 5:03Speaker 4: That day exactly, whoever is on them.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Like you also got to have a little bit towards
- 5:06Speaker 2: Crochet because he is the guy with the big money
- 5:08Speaker 2: and the number one No.
- 5:10Speaker 3: No, not even for that, just just just the season
- 5:12Speaker 3: he put last year. I mean just being behind the
- 5:15Speaker 3: diach for him after a season he was, I mean
- 5:19Speaker 3: running up in the side young Ward, Like, I just
- 5:21Speaker 3: feel proud, I know all the coraage for him.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Anything.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Yes, but Chappy did what Chappy get you?
- 5:27Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 5:28Speaker 3: Choppy did arolics for you, for him, for me, for
- 5:31Speaker 3: for for a corner that.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Was what color?
- 5:35Speaker 4: It's like a rose bowl?
- 5:36Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, my first one.
- 5:41Speaker 5: That's that's that's gonna be my question. Two absolute monsters
- 5:46Speaker 5: Gigante's Giants, Garret croset Eradus Chapman who wins in a fight?
- 5:54Speaker 3: Oh man, I think I think bro because Chappy had
- 5:59Speaker 3: a skinny legs, so he goes with the legs and
- 6:02Speaker 3: he got.
- 6:06Speaker 8: Bigger than all.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Yeah it is, but I mean you just your kick
- 6:10Speaker 3: your legs and he probably don't.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Okay, you're not gonna you're not gonna let chap you here,
- 6:16Speaker 1: that Chappy.
- 6:19Speaker 7: The boxer.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Yeah, we always yog about that.
- 6:23Speaker 2: It's cool, that's funny, that's funny. What today, Ovieto you
- 6:27Speaker 2: mentioned starting Sonny's here? Have you caught Sonny yet?
- 6:29Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 6:29Speaker 3: Sonny and when we were working together last two houris
- 6:33Speaker 3: and now is.
- 6:33Speaker 2: He he's a crazy routine right, Yeah, he's he got
- 6:37Speaker 2: he got crazier thing.
- 6:38Speaker 3: He's a guy you gotta be on the on the
- 6:39Speaker 3: on the same page with you gotta you gotta be
- 6:42Speaker 3: with him.
- 6:42Speaker 4: You gotta be in his mind.
- 6:43Speaker 3: You know, he always followed the game, always need thinking
- 6:46Speaker 3: on the next pitch, So you've got to be on
- 6:48Speaker 3: the same page with him. Like he got multiple pitches,
- 6:51Speaker 3: you know, so he got it now with the pitch
- 6:53Speaker 3: con So you gotta you.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Gotta click early. You know what I mean, as soon as.
- 6:56Speaker 3: I catch a ball at try back, I'm calling the
- 6:59Speaker 3: next you miss?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Do you miss mistake?
- 7:01Speaker 3: You make mistakes the first one, the first one a
- 7:04Speaker 3: little bit because he's the guy you need to set
- 7:06Speaker 3: up for you, I mean, you know about it, like,
- 7:08Speaker 3: so you gotta be you gotta be a little more
- 7:11Speaker 3: focused on pitch by pitch with him. So that's the
- 7:13Speaker 3: only difference. But he's great, bro. His pitch, his his
- 7:16Speaker 3: breaking ball stuff is his money, you know. So he's different.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Like I say, every guy, every guy in the and
- 7:22Speaker 3: the starting in the center rotation has a different pictures,
- 7:26Speaker 3: you know.
- 7:26Speaker 4: So he's definitely different one.
- 7:29Speaker 3: But like I said, he's he's great and like I said,
- 7:31Speaker 3: he's gonna be He's gonna be really good for us.
- 7:34Speaker 7: You mentioned Gary Crochet before.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Is he working on anything new this spring, because when
- 7:39Speaker 5: you were this run around for the cy Young you're like, Okay,
- 7:42Speaker 5: maybe I can just stick with what I got Or
- 7:45Speaker 5: is he working on something that you're like, oh, I
- 7:47Speaker 5: can't wait till we break this out During the season.
- 7:50Speaker 3: He's working on on the on the splitter. He wants
- 7:53Speaker 3: to add that one a little more this year. But
- 7:55Speaker 3: like I said, like if you see that season last year.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I don't think that's much you can change, you know.
- 8:00Speaker 3: So he's going to continue to to do what what
- 8:04Speaker 3: what he does, uh with his trends, but he adding
- 8:07Speaker 3: a little more just split hopefully he's he's working on it,
- 8:11Speaker 3: you know what I mean. Sometimes it's really good. Sometimes
- 8:13Speaker 3: still there's still a lot of work to do. But
- 8:15Speaker 3: like I said, he's he's definitely one involve that pitch
- 8:18Speaker 3: a little more this year.
- 8:19Speaker 2: But he's gonna be one of those guys that says, oh,
- 8:23Speaker 2: splitter look good, and then the season comes, he throws
- 8:25Speaker 2: it and he beats you.
- 8:26Speaker 1: You and Wong are up back there in bullpens.
- 8:28Speaker 2: He's bouncing it, and then the season comes, he's no,
- 8:30Speaker 2: I'm just gonna go back to what I was doing.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Fastball, cutter, slider.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I mean, I mean probably, but that's why Springs whin
- 8:35Speaker 3: Springs training. You know, he's working on it. We got time.
- 8:37Speaker 3: He's been working on that pitch last four weeks. So,
- 8:40Speaker 3: like I said, he's in is in a better shape.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I think it's going to be a volleyball pitch. Like
- 8:47Speaker 3: I don't know, I'm thinking like paying ten percent again
- 8:50Speaker 3: probably like that, you know, what I mean means a
- 8:52Speaker 3: little bit because of course, like everybody knows guy right,
- 8:55Speaker 3: you know, everybody knows how he how he's gonna attack here.
- 8:59Speaker 3: So I don't know, we may gonna adjust a little
- 9:01Speaker 3: bit with that pitch. But like I said, strange is
- 9:04Speaker 3: gonna be. It's gonna be the same.
- 9:08Speaker 6: World Baseball Classic. I'm sure you've been watching a little bit.
- 9:11Speaker 6: I'm sure maybe one day you would love to play
- 9:13Speaker 6: for a team Venezuela. I think that'd be awesome. What
- 9:15Speaker 6: do you think about it? How do you how do
- 9:17Speaker 6: you see Team Venezuela? Their chance is moving forward?
- 9:21Speaker 7: Here?
- 9:22Speaker 4: I mean actually I was.
- 9:23Speaker 3: I was Wednesday and the game that I mean the
- 9:26Speaker 3: atmost for it was went to the game I went
- 9:28Speaker 3: to again because we had off the here, so I went, uh,
- 9:32Speaker 3: I see that game in live, you know. So of course,
- 9:35Speaker 3: like I wanted to at some point, and that's that's
- 9:38Speaker 3: one of my my check book dreams. But I don't know.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I think I think the time will come. This year
- 9:45Speaker 3: I wasn't enabled because the insurance, so but I think
- 9:49Speaker 3: in the future, hopefully in the next one will be there.
- 9:51Speaker 3: You know what I mean, The I mean putting putting
- 9:54Speaker 3: putting Venezuela yees for me is one of my dreams,
- 9:56Speaker 3: so hopefully that will come in the future.
- 9:58Speaker 4: I mean, the team right now looks bazing.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Of course that game Dominican was ahead, got a big
- 10:04Speaker 3: big names in that lineup, Like I say, they got
- 10:07Speaker 3: they got. They got Japan tomorrow probably one of the best,
- 10:09Speaker 3: the best.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Team out there. So it's gonna be interesting.
- 10:11Speaker 3: But I think the next game is gonna be huge
- 10:14Speaker 3: if they win Japan, he got got a lot of
- 10:17Speaker 3: chance to win that, to win that team.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Okay, so I have to call the game tomorrow night,
- 10:21Speaker 2: Japan Venezuela game on Fox and the Fox won half.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Start your free seven day trial. Who am I watching
- 10:28Speaker 2: it for Venezuela. Who's pitching tomorrow for Venezuela.
- 10:31Speaker 4: You're doing it?
- 10:32Speaker 1: Can you give them? Can he give them five against Japan?
- 10:35Speaker 1: And then who can come down?
- 10:37Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 10:37Speaker 3: They got a really good relievers, young guys. They got
- 10:39Speaker 3: a little relievers strowing guys. Bro everybody's throwing guys. That's
- 10:43Speaker 3: that's one of the most impressive things to me watching
- 10:45Speaker 3: the game from both sides. Venezuela got every every liver
- 10:49Speaker 3: throwing ninety seven plus I'm from Dominican, you know, you
- 10:51Speaker 3: know ninety eight plus, So that's that's fun to watch.
- 10:56Speaker 3: But I think, hopefully, hopefully Ranger got the change up
- 10:58Speaker 3: going and it's going to be a lead.
- 11:00Speaker 2: So if if I'm at the game, which I'm gonna
- 11:02Speaker 2: be at the game tomorrow night, you're gonna come to
- 11:03Speaker 2: the game to our night.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Probably now we go. I got you Sunday, you seeing
- 11:07Speaker 4: you know late day. That was good. I just wanted
- 11:11Speaker 4: to I just wanted to see that game. Man. That's
- 11:13Speaker 4: good enough. Hopefully in the Nest one I will playing.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So Okay, look, it's one of the greatest atmospheres. I'm sorry.
- 11:19Speaker 2: In twenty three I was at the US Venezuela let
- 11:21Speaker 2: be final. Sorry to bring it up, but it was
- 11:23Speaker 2: an atmosphere.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Tell everybody might be it's amazing. Even even you can
- 11:28Speaker 3: fill that energy in the city. I was around earlier
- 11:31Speaker 3: in the day and everybody was okay about the game,
- 11:33Speaker 3: And of course we got into a game. I like
- 11:36Speaker 3: traffic everywhere, like, I mean, the city got crazy.
- 11:40Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 11:40Speaker 2: That's awesome, Carlos, thank you for joining us here. Thank you,
- 11:43Speaker 2: foul Territory. Have a great year with the Boston Red
- 11:46Speaker 2: Sox and we'll be right back. Foul Territory Spring training
- 11:49Speaker 2: Tours engineered here by fast and All. Check out Fastenall
- 11:52Speaker 2: dot com for more information. We are here at Red
- 11:55Speaker 2: Sox Camp today. Let's check out the calendar. You see,
- 11:58Speaker 2: we've already done Arizona Crush that one. Then we did
- 12:02Speaker 2: Southeast Florida, Jupiter Port, Saint Lucy Palm Beach.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Now we're doing the Southwest side.
- 12:07Speaker 2: We're here in Red Sox Camp and then next week Lakeland,
- 12:10Speaker 2: which is beautiful this time of the year, I hear.
- 12:12Speaker 2: And then we're going to the Tampa area Bradenton on
- 12:14Speaker 2: Saint Patrick's Stak crafts Wear you're a green hat, and
- 12:17Speaker 2: then the Blue Jays and we end up in the Phillies.
- 12:20Speaker 2: But we're back here at Red Sox Camp now with
- 12:22Speaker 2: the young lefty Hayton totally watch you throw a bullpen.
- 12:26Speaker 7: Does the little uh?
- 12:27Speaker 1: Does the little thing that they have there distract you?
- 12:31Speaker 9: Thing for the catcher, I try try not to be
- 12:33Speaker 9: distracted by it. I think it's good whenever we're heading
- 12:35Speaker 9: into shake, so that's.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I mean, I mean you're hitting the corners.
- 12:38Speaker 8: Yeah, I think a good pitch. I think so.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I think it's a it's a good little tool to use.
- 12:43Speaker 9: You know, we use it today just to try to
- 12:44Speaker 9: be in zone and well about fifty fifty on that today.
- 12:48Speaker 1: But shouldn't you be better than that? Absolutely?
- 12:50Speaker 8: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, definitely should be better kind of it
- 12:53Speaker 8: wasn't my best work.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Do you think it distracts a catcher though? Too? Is
- 12:57Speaker 1: with with Kratz and me on here two catchers touch?
- 12:59Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 13:00Speaker 2: I thought I didn't care. Was like me swung and everything,
- 13:02Speaker 2: but you know the connects back there. They got these
- 13:04Speaker 2: little strings and they're bouncing all around crowds.
- 13:06Speaker 8: Like, yeah, is it you did They didn't do that?
- 13:12Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean it's it's innovating innovation that excites.
- 13:17Speaker 7: They did it. They did it.
- 13:20Speaker 5: We did it back in two thousand and nine and
- 13:21Speaker 5: twenty ten Joe Kerrigan set except he didn't do Like
- 13:25Speaker 5: I was watching behind behind where our setup is.
- 13:28Speaker 7: You guys have like a square.
- 13:29Speaker 5: We had just a string that they ran across the
- 13:32Speaker 5: entire bullpen. So it was like two or three guys
- 13:35Speaker 5: that were doing it. Yeah, it's distracting. It hits it
- 13:37Speaker 5: and you're like I never saw one hit it, and
- 13:40Speaker 5: like go anywhere the string's too thin.
- 13:42Speaker 7: But yeah, it's distracted, but I got add Yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 2: The other thing is that they had the the plastic
- 13:49Speaker 2: guy that stands there, you know, they hate that, the
- 13:51Speaker 2: fake dude that stands there, and someone.
- 13:53Speaker 1: It wasn't you that threw one.
- 13:54Speaker 2: It was there was another lefty throwing, uh Sikama, Yeah,
- 13:58Speaker 2: that always say his name Sycamo throwing. And the poor
- 14:01Speaker 2: catcher he threw one in in the right handed fake
- 14:03Speaker 2: batter and it hit it and he could catcher like
- 14:05Speaker 2: jumped out of the way because he was afraid it
- 14:07Speaker 2: was gonna smoke him in the ribs.
- 14:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:10Speaker 8: Those things don't dodge. They don't dodge out of the way.
- 14:12Speaker 1: But I DK today.
- 14:14Speaker 7: So does it help you? Does it help you though?
- 14:18Speaker 5: Because I hated it as a catcher, not the one
- 14:20Speaker 5: that hit the plastic dummy, the one that ticks off
- 14:24Speaker 5: it and you go to catch it and then it
- 14:26Speaker 5: catches me in the neck.
- 14:27Speaker 7: But does it help you as a picture?
- 14:30Speaker 4: Uh?
- 14:30Speaker 8: I think sometimes it can.
- 14:32Speaker 9: It just gives another like visual aid, so you're not
- 14:35Speaker 9: just it's not running blind into games with it. A
- 14:39Speaker 9: little bit of a you can kind of maybe like
- 14:42Speaker 9: break a curveball off of the guy's elbow or something
- 14:45Speaker 9: like that. So it's it can help guys. I like,
- 14:48Speaker 9: I like sitting the lefty in there to try to
- 14:49Speaker 9: have some like staying closed into it.
- 14:53Speaker 8: But it does help. It's good visual aid.
- 14:56Speaker 6: Yeah, I think all this talk about what to do,
- 14:59Speaker 6: how we're doing it, all these different techniques, I want
- 15:02Speaker 6: to ask you personally, what in spring training coming into
- 15:05Speaker 6: this year right now? I know you have your off
- 15:06Speaker 6: scene and planning, but what is your main goal and
- 15:10Speaker 6: focus on, not only you know, throwing wise, but for
- 15:13Speaker 6: yourself too as well coming into this season.
- 15:16Speaker 9: I mean, I think it's per on the pitching side thing.
- 15:20Speaker 8: It's been a lot of off speed.
- 15:22Speaker 9: We saw last year that we can get by with fastballs,
- 15:27Speaker 9: but as everybody on this call knows, big league hitters
- 15:32Speaker 9: can hit fastballs, so we need some way to protect that.
- 15:34Speaker 9: And so for me, it's been a lot of curveballs,
- 15:37Speaker 9: a lot of change ups, just trying to add wrinkles
- 15:40Speaker 9: to guys. But yeah, I mean it's trying to not
- 15:44Speaker 9: have any expectations for this year, just trying to take
- 15:48Speaker 9: it in the day at a time, because it can
- 15:49Speaker 9: be really easy to get caught up in where we
- 15:53Speaker 9: think we should land where everything should line up for us,
- 15:56Speaker 9: But just trying to take it one day at a time.
- 15:58Speaker 9: And it's been a trying to do my best at
- 16:02Speaker 9: staying where my feet are, although it can be tough sometimes,
- 16:04Speaker 9: but yeah, it's just trying to block out the noise
- 16:09Speaker 9: and focus on what I can that day.
- 16:11Speaker 5: All Right, you said big lead hitters can hit fastballs,
- 16:14Speaker 5: and yet every single place that we look at it's
- 16:17Speaker 5: like you got to.
- 16:17Speaker 7: Throw your fastball harder, gotta throw it harder.
- 16:19Speaker 5: And now you're sitting here as a guy who went
- 16:22Speaker 5: from being on our show last year in Higa too
- 16:26Speaker 5: being in the big leagues, do you feel like too
- 16:28Speaker 5: much ownership or too much time is spent on how
- 16:32Speaker 5: hard can I throw this fastball? Because now you're like,
- 16:34Speaker 5: I want to stick in the big leagues, I gotta
- 16:36Speaker 5: be spin this breaking ball a different way.
- 16:39Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, I think that Villo is king right now,
- 16:43Speaker 9: but I think it's a lot of guys are different.
- 16:46Speaker 9: For me, the Villo is a thing that I want
- 16:48Speaker 9: to continue to work on, continue to build on. But
- 16:52Speaker 9: like you're saying, like you need to have spin in
- 16:54Speaker 9: order to pitch well, you can't be one dimensional out there,
- 16:58Speaker 9: So I think it's good, especially like coming up through
- 17:03Speaker 9: the organization of trying to throw harder each and every outing.
- 17:06Speaker 9: It was a good mindset change for me of like
- 17:09Speaker 9: going out there and like you said, pr on every
- 17:14Speaker 9: pitch and so it's gonna help the villa, will help
- 17:17Speaker 9: the off speeds get better. But now it's like, okay,
- 17:20Speaker 9: maintained velocity and also uh, be.
- 17:23Speaker 8: Able to spin it and get into the zone.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I mean, did you learn all this in those like
- 17:28Speaker 1: four hard months?
- 17:29Speaker 2: You grind it through the minor leagues and crafts. I
- 17:31Speaker 2: mean this guy here, he's a grinder. I mean he
- 17:34Speaker 2: was in the motogrinder grind. You got all this wisdom?
- 17:39Speaker 1: And what was that like?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Drafted in twenty four? Did you play? You played at all?
- 17:44Speaker 2: In twenty four?
- 17:45Speaker 8: I had one fcl inning, So you do one.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Inning, So one inning technically has parts of two years
- 17:51Speaker 2: in the minor league grind. And the next thing you know,
- 17:53Speaker 2: it was August. Right, You're in the big lea pitching
- 17:55Speaker 2: for the Red Sox at then.
- 17:57Speaker 9: Yeah, it was an absolute whirlwind of a year or
- 18:00Speaker 9: sixteen months whatever it was, but.
- 18:01Speaker 8: It was it was a lot of fun. It was
- 18:05Speaker 8: to meet a lot of new people.
- 18:06Speaker 2: So that's that was you know, everyone from a ball
- 18:09Speaker 2: double A all the way up to the big leagues.
- 18:11Speaker 8: Yeah, this spring training has been great.
- 18:12Speaker 9: I haven't really introduced myself to a whole lot of
- 18:15Speaker 9: new people. So it's you know, the minor league gys,
- 18:18Speaker 9: so I got I got boys everywhere, so I'm it's
- 18:20Speaker 9: it's helped me out a lot of feel pretty comfortable
- 18:23Speaker 9: with everybody, so it's all, you know everyone's name, we're close.
- 18:26Speaker 9: So there's a couple of like new draft guys that
- 18:28Speaker 9: I think I've introduced myself three times too, and it's like,
- 18:32Speaker 9: well now that.
- 18:32Speaker 8: Just makes me look like a complete tool of But
- 18:37Speaker 8: they're looking at you.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Look at this veteran Peyton totally walked up to me.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Guys introduced himself to me. Look at this, he's a
- 18:43Speaker 2: big league start.
- 18:43Speaker 8: It was the third time introducing himself to me.
- 18:46Speaker 1: You at least you introduced yourself to Yeah.
- 18:49Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean it's iron of course last year being
- 18:53Speaker 9: in their shoes, it can be uh, it can be intimidating,
- 18:56Speaker 9: but trying to I don't.
- 18:57Speaker 8: I try to spread the love too.
- 18:59Speaker 1: You know.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Todd and I spend a lot of time in the
- 19:00Speaker 2: minor league is not as much as Kratz right, Todd,
- 19:02Speaker 2: We grinded through the minor league, but we're not quite
- 19:05Speaker 2: on Peyton's level.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Is how quick we could get there.
- 19:08Speaker 6: No no doubt and sorry Kratzy you were You went
- 19:12Speaker 6: up there as quick as possible. Absolutely incredible, all joke,
- 19:16Speaker 6: all joking aside.
- 19:17Speaker 8: I want, I want, I.
- 19:18Speaker 6: Want the people to get to know you a little
- 19:20Speaker 6: bit here. I know you look like a fun loving guy.
- 19:22Speaker 6: Tell me your likes, your dislikes, Like, what do you
- 19:25Speaker 6: do off season stuff? Talk a little bitout about you
- 19:28Speaker 6: as a person non baseball life.
- 19:31Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I like people a lot.
- 19:33Speaker 9: I like whenever I'm in the off season, I get
- 19:35Speaker 9: my workouts done in the morning and then it's it's
- 19:37Speaker 9: off to go hang out with dad, girlfriend, you know,
- 19:40Speaker 9: just high school buddies, whatever it is, like just I
- 19:43Speaker 9: like hanging out with people, but I like food a lot.
- 19:47Speaker 9: My greatest accomplishment of all time was conquering a seventy
- 19:50Speaker 9: two out steak out there in Ambrillo, Texas.
- 19:52Speaker 8: Uh, I'll brag about it. It was pretty cool.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Like John Canny, he wasn't born then the big.
- 20:01Speaker 8: Yeah, I forgot, what did you want a free T shirt?
- 20:03Speaker 8: A T shirt and the name on the wall. That's
- 20:05Speaker 8: all I got.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Did they at least get a picture? I got a
- 20:08Speaker 1: picture of You have to have a bone in it?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Or is it just the whole?
- 20:11Speaker 8: That's the whole thing.
- 20:12Speaker 9: It's just the No, I'm not a factor. I probably
- 20:17Speaker 9: roasted for that, but not a big fact. You don't
- 20:19Speaker 9: need to eat all the fat. There's not a lot
- 20:21Speaker 9: on it, but you don't need to eat all of it.
- 20:23Speaker 9: So thick sauce tried to stay away from it. But
- 20:26Speaker 9: it gets to a point where you're eating. You get
- 20:29Speaker 9: to about the third pound of.
- 20:30Speaker 1: The steak, and it's like, yeah, you got Is there
- 20:31Speaker 1: a time limit?
- 20:32Speaker 8: An hour?
- 20:33Speaker 1: Holy crap?
- 20:34Speaker 8: How long?
- 20:35Speaker 7: How would it.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Takes you to do it?
- 20:37Speaker 8: Fifty minutes and fifty one seconds?
- 20:40Speaker 7: He knows it was this your first try?
- 20:47Speaker 8: No, I actually my sophomore year of high school. I
- 20:50Speaker 8: did it.
- 20:50Speaker 9: I only got sixty five ounces of it down. But
- 20:52Speaker 9: the roll in the big potato they get in the way.
- 20:54Speaker 9: You got to do that too, roll salad, it's the
- 20:58Speaker 9: whole nine yards.
- 20:59Speaker 7: Oh man, how did you feel after you were done?
- 21:04Speaker 4: Not?
- 21:05Speaker 8: Great?
- 21:05Speaker 9: It took about twenty minutes and uh, pull over to
- 21:08Speaker 9: the side of the road.
- 21:09Speaker 8: But after that I felt great.
- 21:12Speaker 7: Oh my god.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Anyways, we had Alex cor earlier on here. He's rocking
- 21:17Speaker 2: his Puerto Rico sweatir with the blonde hair. Do you
- 21:20Speaker 2: still have USA shaved in your chest?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Sadly?
- 21:22Speaker 9: No, it got a little bit itchy and like gave
- 21:25Speaker 9: the whole thing I did. Yeah, we started fresh, and
- 21:29Speaker 9: yeah that I'm not going to blame that Italy game
- 21:34Speaker 9: on me, but it might be my fall just for
- 21:36Speaker 9: not just staying patriotic. But yeah, every time I looked
- 21:40Speaker 9: in the mirror, I was liked, which is a little
- 21:44Speaker 9: She loved it. I'm pretty sure she said she did.
- 21:48Speaker 9: It was partly her idea, so but it was, uh yeah,
- 21:51Speaker 9: it was one of those look in the miroric. You know,
- 21:54Speaker 9: maybe this is getting a little weird.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Well, we're all rooting for USA on this show, and
- 22:00Speaker 2: I know you're clearly rooting for that Pyton totally.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us, appreciate it. Here a Red Sox
- 22:06Speaker 1: camp and we'll be right back on foul Territory
