- 0:25Speaker 1: who makes everyone swoon. We will discuss NFL free agency,
- 0:29Speaker 1: NFL draft gambling on the NFL. I will introduce him
- 0:34Speaker 1: in a moment, but first I am joined by my
- 0:36Speaker 1: co host, my companion, Mike cam Padre My BFF, Professional Better,
- 0:41Speaker 1: Simon Hunter, Eero Soymn.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Hello, Chad, are we talking oscars today? Are we talking
- 0:48Speaker 3: actual NFL?
- 0:48Speaker 4: What are we doing?
- 0:49Speaker 1: We're talking actual? By the way, can I listen? I
- 0:55Speaker 1: do want to say that last week on the pod,
- 0:59Speaker 1: the most forceful stands we took, I believe I was
- 1:05Speaker 1: very adamant that Zone of Interest was going to win.
- 1:09Speaker 5: For sound I already regret.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It, and I was adamant Emma Stone was gonna win
- 1:15Speaker 1: for Best Actress.
- 1:17Speaker 2: We cashed on both of those, but for But let's
- 1:20Speaker 2: get to our guests. Because our guest is Chris.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Long, two time Super Bowl champion, number two overall pick
- 1:25Speaker 1: in the two thousand and eight NFL Draft, hosted the
- 1:30Speaker 1: very popular, explosively popular green Light podcast, which he records
- 1:35Speaker 1: from his fabulous hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia. Generally regarded by
- 1:41Speaker 1: Action Network as one of the best, nicest, most handsome
- 1:44Speaker 1: ex athletes working in media today.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Also, by the way.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Brady gets in, you know, you can't really compete there.
- 1:51Speaker 2: You know what.
- 1:52Speaker 1: We don't even want Brady. Yeah, you know, we don't
- 1:54Speaker 1: want him. He's just going to bring us down. Chris,
- 1:58Speaker 1: Welcome to the show, dude.
- 1:59Speaker 4: I'll I'm so happy to be on. Let me say
- 2:01Speaker 4: this first.
- 2:01Speaker 6: I really do listen to y'alls pod and, like somebody
- 2:03Speaker 6: asked me the other day, like, what's the podcast you
- 2:06Speaker 6: listen to the most, And I gotta say, I don't
- 2:08Speaker 6: listen to a lot of podcasts, and sometimes I draw
- 2:10Speaker 6: a blank, But the answer should be y'all show the favorites,
- 2:14Speaker 6: because every week I'll kind of compare what I'm thinking
- 2:18Speaker 6: with what y'all are thinking.
- 2:19Speaker 4: I just really like the format of the show.
- 2:21Speaker 6: I think you guys do a great job, and I
- 2:24Speaker 6: enjoy gambling obviously, but also the oscars. Okay, sorry, sorry, Simon,
- 2:31Speaker 6: I gotta tea chat up for a second. God'silla minus
- 2:35Speaker 6: one won something. Visually, I think, right, yes, it had to.
- 2:39Speaker 6: It was one of the best, I don't want to overact,
- 2:42Speaker 6: one of the best movies I've seen the last ten
- 2:44Speaker 6: years in theaters.
- 2:45Speaker 4: It was incredible.
- 2:46Speaker 1: People love that movie one I think for effects and yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 1: it was one of those movies that everyone thought would
- 2:52Speaker 1: be campy and silly, but people actually totally loved it.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Blew me away. It blew me away. So and then
- 2:59Speaker 4: the zone of interest was that worth watching? It was good?
- 3:03Speaker 2: Oh my god, it's amazing.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Oh really, Okay, I got to watch it.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I mean watch it.
- 3:06Speaker 1: It's totally painful, it's gut wrenching, it's terrible, but like
- 3:10Speaker 1: it is an incredible movie.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Okay, it's great.
- 3:13Speaker 4: All right.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Every minute we're not we're talking about the movies we're
- 3:15Speaker 1: taking away from Simon getting to talk to you about
- 3:17Speaker 1: all things Philadelphia and South Jersey. But I will say
- 3:23Speaker 1: what's interesting is, and you've done this, I think better
- 3:26Speaker 1: than anybody as an ex athlete who has transitioned into
- 3:29Speaker 1: media authentically being interested in gambling. And so how did
- 3:37Speaker 1: that transition take place?
- 3:39Speaker 4: Well? I think you know, like you said it authentically.
- 3:42Speaker 6: I mean, you know, if you like to gamble, it's
- 3:45Speaker 6: going to come through in the content, right, like if
- 3:47Speaker 6: you really are you know, we get approached by gambling
- 3:50Speaker 6: groups all the time and and books to you know,
- 3:53Speaker 6: be sponsors or enter into partnerships, and we've had partners
- 3:57Speaker 6: and you know a lot of the times, you know,
- 3:59Speaker 6: I could see how this could go south where it's like, hey,
- 4:02Speaker 6: you have to hit all these markers as a former
- 4:05Speaker 6: athlete or a podcaster, and you know, you have to
- 4:07Speaker 6: cover a couple of you know, spreads you like this
- 4:10Speaker 6: week or sides or totals or whatever, and a lot
- 4:13Speaker 6: of times.
- 4:14Speaker 4: You can see that people are kind of going through
- 4:15Speaker 4: the motions with that.
- 4:16Speaker 6: I do feel badly when I give somebody the wrong side,
- 4:21Speaker 6: and I also I also am living it, so I think,
- 4:26Speaker 6: if anything, the biggest issue I have with gambling is
- 4:29Speaker 6: sometimes it can bleed into the way I talk about
- 4:31Speaker 6: a game as an analyst, because I am an analyst
- 4:34Speaker 6: first as a podcaster, but there's always that gambling sidebark
- 4:39Speaker 6: going on, and I'll be mad at a team, you know,
- 4:42Speaker 6: like because I'll be like, that was the right side,
- 4:45Speaker 6: and you guys didn't execute and that might bleed into
- 4:47Speaker 6: the way I talk about the game, but I think
- 4:49Speaker 6: people can feel that. You know, people love to have
- 4:53Speaker 6: a little something on the NFL and it helps when
- 4:56Speaker 6: they're tuning in, and you know, like the podcaster is
- 5:00Speaker 6: the same way. But I think it's also fun for
- 5:03Speaker 6: fans to be like, oh, the football players are like.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Us when they hang it up.
- 5:06Speaker 6: You know, they want to sit there with all the
- 5:08Speaker 6: games on, and they've got their fantasy they have their
- 5:10Speaker 6: prop bets, they have their sides they play. I got
- 5:13Speaker 6: the teasers, I got the parlays, I got all the
- 5:16Speaker 6: dumb stuff that people tell you not to do. It's
- 5:18Speaker 6: not just talking about gambling, but it's talking about in
- 5:20Speaker 6: a humanizing way that's like I'm not perfect, you know,
- 5:24Speaker 6: so buyer beware, but I do like to gamble, and
- 5:27Speaker 6: I will talk about it.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I'm a big fan of your show as well. I'm
- 5:31Speaker 3: always the Stanford Steve guy. Obviously grow up watching Scott
- 5:34Speaker 3: ben Pelt. So if you love Scott ben Pelt, you
- 5:37Speaker 3: probably love Stanford Steve. If you're a gambler, that's tenfold.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Stanford Steve was kind of the dirty little whisper on
- 5:43Speaker 3: ESPN and talking gambling before it was really cool and
- 5:47Speaker 3: you know, checking out your show. My biggest view of
- 5:49Speaker 3: you is I think most ex players, especially guys who
- 5:54Speaker 3: like for my group we do it, interact loud with
- 5:56Speaker 3: X and NFL players because they want they do buypicks
- 5:59Speaker 3: a lot of exit of want to win money. Eventually
- 6:03Speaker 3: they'll lose it themselves just because they think they have
- 6:05Speaker 3: the answers to the test, just because they've gotten picks
- 6:07Speaker 3: for a little while. And what I noticed was you
- 6:09Speaker 3: with You're kind of learning what to actually do, which
- 6:12Speaker 3: you bet unders. I kept talking all year about betting
- 6:15Speaker 3: these unders on the on the show, and I noticed
- 6:17Speaker 3: you you kind of realized picking sides was tough, and
- 6:20Speaker 3: you're like, I'm just gonna ride these unders for a
- 6:21Speaker 3: little while, and you got hot. I think you were
- 6:23Speaker 3: like ten and two at one point betting unders. And
- 6:26Speaker 3: I think a lot of people can take lessons from
- 6:28Speaker 3: that where you adjust to what's happening at the time.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Right, So when you're viewing this, like what biggest lessons
- 6:34Speaker 5: have you.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Learned so far betting that early days, I've seen your
- 6:37Speaker 3: next player, you think you have the answers have you
- 6:39Speaker 3: learned now betting that you didn't have.
- 6:41Speaker 6: I think I'm constantly learning. I mean it's like I'll
- 6:44Speaker 6: learn things this year that I don't know yet. And
- 6:46Speaker 6: this is year five or six out for me, and
- 6:48Speaker 6: I've been gambling the whole time, and the thing is like,
- 6:50Speaker 6: you have to lose, you have to go through the
- 6:54Speaker 6: frustrating realization that yeah, you might know football really well,
- 6:58Speaker 6: but gambling is a different thing entirely. I mean, like
- 7:01Speaker 6: you put it in the context of the game, but
- 7:06Speaker 6: it's a game outside the game, and it is governed
- 7:09Speaker 6: by people that aren't football experts necessarily from an x's
- 7:13Speaker 6: and O standpoint, But they understand numbers, they understand trends,
- 7:16Speaker 6: they understand spots, they understand the context around each game.
- 7:20Speaker 6: And I think for me that's the really fun part,
- 7:23Speaker 6: you know, like talking to older gamblers who all have
- 7:26Speaker 6: theories and ways that they do things because there's no
- 7:29Speaker 6: right answer.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Everybody would be hitting it a sixty percent clip.
- 7:33Speaker 6: But there are little nuggets that I pick up from
- 7:35Speaker 6: all types of people, like, hey, you know, I got
- 7:37Speaker 6: a buddy, it's like division sandwiches, you know, things like that,
- 7:40Speaker 6: or you know, like there are people that prefer betting
- 7:44Speaker 6: live like they just don't bet sides before the game
- 7:47Speaker 6: they think it's profitable.
- 7:48Speaker 4: To get on the live betting.
- 7:50Speaker 6: Like that was a phase that I went through where
- 7:52Speaker 6: I realized that, like, hey, as a player, an advantage
- 7:55Speaker 6: I can gain is watching the first quarter of the
- 7:57Speaker 6: game and especially with totals, understanding what's going to happen
- 8:02Speaker 6: as the game opens up, and also feeling the flow
- 8:05Speaker 6: of the game from a pace standpoint, which is big,
- 8:08Speaker 6: Like that's a thing where I can apply my actual
- 8:11Speaker 6: expertise is like watching a game in real time and
- 8:15Speaker 6: hopping on these live totals or sides and betting teams
- 8:19Speaker 6: that are down you know, ten points, you know, taking
- 8:22Speaker 6: the more long shot bets.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Like as I've gone, I've.
- 8:26Speaker 6: Definitely like early in my career, I was big on
- 8:29Speaker 6: risk adverse things, you know, because you're like if I'm
- 8:32Speaker 6: risk adverse, they can't get me. You know, you're betting
- 8:34Speaker 6: favorites at these shitty money line numbers, and you're betting teasers,
- 8:40Speaker 6: and you're betting all this stuff that like it looks
- 8:42Speaker 6: good on paper, but you know how it is. It's
- 8:44Speaker 6: like mathematically, you're taking on a lot of risk and
- 8:47Speaker 6: eventually one of those is going to bite you in
- 8:48Speaker 6: the ass. So learning naturally to like take the plus
- 8:52Speaker 6: money stuff, lean in on the totals, and then more
- 8:56Speaker 6: than anything, like pace yourself through the year. You know,
- 8:59Speaker 6: if I'm out guns blazing early in the year. My expertise.
- 9:03Speaker 6: The great equalizer is nobody really knows what these teams
- 9:06Speaker 6: are going to look like and how these pieces are
- 9:08Speaker 6: going to fit and who's who's actually the cream that's
- 9:10Speaker 6: going to rise at the top.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Like in the playoffs this year, I think I went.
- 9:14Speaker 6: I mean, I think I was eighty five percent on
- 9:16Speaker 6: sides and I'm not tooting my horn, But what I
- 9:19Speaker 6: am saying is by the time the playoffs roll around,
- 9:21Speaker 6: I know what's going on because I've seen a full
- 9:24Speaker 6: sample size of these teams playing. And the less games
- 9:27Speaker 6: there are, the more you can really focus in. And
- 9:29Speaker 6: another thing I started to learn was like the smaller markets.
- 9:33Speaker 6: Man like hitting these smaller markets because the book's not
- 9:38Speaker 6: going to be as tuned in on some games that
- 9:41Speaker 6: aren't getting as much action.
- 9:42Speaker 4: And so.
- 9:44Speaker 6: Also avoiding the chase has been a big one for me.
- 9:47Speaker 6: Like I have an alter ego. We call it Chase
- 9:49Speaker 6: long and we have fun with it where it's like
- 9:52Speaker 6: you know, there'd be I'll never forget my maybe second
- 9:55Speaker 6: or third year out. I was down big for the
- 9:57Speaker 6: first time, and so what did I do. I waited
- 9:59Speaker 6: till Sunday night. I bet Tom Brady against the Saints
- 10:03Speaker 6: in a Buccaneers uniform, and I bet them money line
- 10:06Speaker 6: huge And you know, like what I've realized over the
- 10:09Speaker 6: last couple of years is that the Saints kind of
- 10:11Speaker 6: owned Tom Brady. You know, it's it, but it's it's
- 10:17Speaker 6: just trying to eliminate bad habits and be patient, man,
- 10:21Speaker 6: because I think that's the king for me is if
- 10:24Speaker 6: I'm patient and I'm week eight, I'm looking at my
- 10:26Speaker 6: ledger and I'm saying, oh, I'm plus money.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I'm good. Like then I'm going to be a better gambler.
- 10:31Speaker 6: But if I'm down a month into the season and
- 10:33Speaker 6: you're desperate, that's when you incur a lot of those
- 10:35Speaker 6: bad Chasey beats. Like you know, I'll never forget the
- 10:38Speaker 6: New England Chicago game where Justin Fields went off. I
- 10:42Speaker 6: picked the wrong week to fade Justin Fields, and I
- 10:44Speaker 6: did it spectacularly. Like stay out of those situations and
- 10:49Speaker 6: and learn how to lose.
- 10:51Speaker 4: You know, like at the end of the week.
- 10:53Speaker 6: If on my app I'm I'm in you know, I'm
- 10:57Speaker 6: in the red, then I need to just stop and
- 11:01Speaker 6: I can look at that zero on Monday and I'm
- 11:03Speaker 6: going to be a lot better gambler than I would
- 11:05Speaker 6: be on Sunday night chasing losses.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's one of the biggest things, is
- 11:09Speaker 1: learning how not to chase comment and a question.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Yeah, one.
- 11:15Speaker 1: You talk about being an ex player and being able
- 11:19Speaker 1: to understand, and you talk about being an analyst. First,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I remember listening to you and Kyle. It's fun. By
- 11:23Speaker 1: the way, Simon is a hardcore Philly guy. I am
- 11:28Speaker 1: a hardcore Chicago guy. So I like listening to you
- 11:32Speaker 1: and your brother on the Monday Live show during the season.
- 11:34Speaker 2: It's great.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And one of the things you guys were talking about
- 11:37Speaker 1: once it was right before the Eagles were playing the Niners,
- 11:41Speaker 1: and the Eagles had just had that.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Game against the Bills. You had a very specific.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Point about how hard it is to come back physically
- 11:52Speaker 1: and that literally every hour matters when you're playing, and
- 11:58Speaker 1: so that recovery time because they a late game and
- 12:00Speaker 1: then they went into overtime, all of a sudden, that
- 12:03Speaker 1: recovery time was going to matter, and you could see
- 12:05Speaker 1: that on the field that Sunday. Simon and I went
- 12:08Speaker 1: in so heavy on the Niners against the Eagle in
- 12:12Speaker 1: that game partially because of that analysis. So like, the
- 12:14Speaker 1: analysis plays into it. Second, but the question is you
- 12:19Speaker 1: were down big for a guy like Chris Long. What
- 12:25Speaker 1: is uncomfortable?
- 12:26Speaker 2: What is big?
- 12:29Speaker 4: Eight figures in a week?
- 12:33Speaker 2: You know, uh, eight figures in a week.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I'm joking, Nah, dude, By the way I listen, I
- 12:41Speaker 1: would know I'm really fucking around.
- 12:42Speaker 6: There's some people who are gonna be like, yo, he's
- 12:44Speaker 6: losing that much money. No, But like, honestly, you know,
- 12:48Speaker 6: some weeks I'm going to be down five figures, are
- 12:50Speaker 6: up five figures, you know. And that's just kind of
- 12:53Speaker 6: the way I look at it. Like, you know, it's like,
- 12:55Speaker 6: at the end of the season, my goal I set aside.
- 12:58Speaker 6: I set aside you know, mid five figures, and I say,
- 13:03Speaker 6: I don't want to be down more than this at
- 13:05Speaker 6: the end of the season. And if I can, if
- 13:10Speaker 6: I can kind of just keep an eye on that
- 13:13Speaker 6: number and actually gamble responsibly, which is like, hey, if
- 13:17Speaker 6: you're down, you don't chase you don't you don't you know,
- 13:20Speaker 6: you keep your units the same as much as you can,
- 13:24Speaker 6: you sprinkle in you have units for different kinds of bets,
- 13:28Speaker 6: Like my unit for taking aside is going to be
- 13:30Speaker 6: different than than betting a plus three fifty dog.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Like, you know, you just try to stick to a formula.
- 13:37Speaker 6: But yeah, like I have been down, you know, my
- 13:42Speaker 6: entire my entire you know, my entire nut or whatever
- 13:47Speaker 6: you want to call it, in an entire week, in
- 13:49Speaker 6: one week, and then that's where you got, Like that's when.
- 13:52Speaker 4: The crisis starts. And if it's week.
- 13:54Speaker 6: Seven, you're like, damn, dude, I almost I have to
- 13:58Speaker 6: pay up to feel like I'm I got a clean slate,
- 14:02Speaker 6: you know. But if I know I owe money, it's
- 14:04Speaker 6: like a totally different thing. So yeah, I'm never gonna
- 14:07Speaker 6: be I'm never making these enormous bets, Like I'll tell
- 14:10Speaker 6: you guys, just because like I probably put twenty on
- 14:12Speaker 6: the super Bowl, you know, like and I won. Uh,
- 14:16Speaker 6: And I was up because I was up about that
- 14:18Speaker 6: much during the playoffs, right because I was rolling. And
- 14:22Speaker 6: so like, if I feel very confident in something and
- 14:25Speaker 6: I know it's towards the end of the season, and
- 14:27Speaker 6: I'm up.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Then I'm going to manage the budget a little bit differently,
- 14:30Speaker 4: you know.
- 14:30Speaker 6: So I'm not one of these people who's like going
- 14:33Speaker 6: to the casino and betting five hundred thousand dollars on
- 14:36Speaker 6: a side. I mean that's like Floyd Mayweather or somebody
- 14:39Speaker 6: like that. Like, I still have a family to feed.
- 14:42Speaker 6: I kind of think about it, like if my wife
- 14:44Speaker 6: saw my balance, would she make me sleep in the RV?
- 14:48Speaker 6: And if I have that, if I kind of have
- 14:50Speaker 6: that that barometer for like, am I screwing it up?
- 14:55Speaker 6: And I think about my wife seeing the bets I'm making,
- 14:57Speaker 6: that's kind of like that's kind of like my conscience.
- 15:01Speaker 1: That's why Simon needs to get married so it can
- 15:03Speaker 1: help him better manage the amounts that he's betting on football.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Simon, can you name.
- 15:11Speaker 1: The fastest growing ticketing app in the United States?
- 15:14Speaker 5: Game Time?
- 15:15Speaker 2: That's right, It's game Time. I love Game Time for
- 15:17Speaker 2: two reasons.
- 15:18Speaker 1: First, they still sponsor this show. Second, I actually use
- 15:21Speaker 1: game Time all the time. They have amazing last minute
- 15:23Speaker 1: deals including.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Pro and college sports.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I'm actually opening the game Time app right now from
- 15:29Speaker 1: my house here in Connecticut. Guess what college basketball conference
- 15:34Speaker 1: tournament week in New York City. I can get into Barclays,
- 15:37Speaker 1: I can get in MSG. I can see conference tournaments
- 15:40Speaker 1: for twenty dollars or less. No matter where you live,
- 15:43Speaker 1: download the game Time app. Get out have some fun
- 15:46Speaker 1: this week.
- 15:46Speaker 2: You deserve it.
- 15:47Speaker 1: You can redeem code favorites for twenty dollars off your
- 15:49Speaker 1: first purchase. Terms apply again. Just download the game Time
- 15:52Speaker 1: app and you'd use code Favorites for twenty dollars off
- 15:55Speaker 1: your first purchase last minute tickets loss price is guaranteed.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I will tell you one thing though, when you said
- 16:00Speaker 1: eight figures. I once did a story. You know, I
- 16:04Speaker 1: was a ESPN for years, and I did this story
- 16:07Speaker 1: about phil Ivey, who is considered the greatest poker player
- 16:10Speaker 1: who ever lived, one of the biggest gamblers who ever lived.
- 16:13Speaker 1: And my assignment was traveling around the world on phil
- 16:17Speaker 1: Ivey's private jet from Connecticut to Montreal to Austria while
- 16:22Speaker 1: he was gambling in various places. And I sat down
- 16:25Speaker 1: with him and I said, how much is uncomfortable? And
- 16:29Speaker 1: he looks at me and he goes ten million. So
- 16:34Speaker 1: you could say eight figures and it wouldn't be the
- 16:36Speaker 1: first time that I've heard someone say.
- 16:38Speaker 4: But you know, I think the key is it's like
- 16:40Speaker 4: what to me, I gamble.
- 16:42Speaker 6: I don't gamble to make money, like, yeah, I got
- 16:45Speaker 6: a stack of cash from the playoffs in Super Bowl
- 16:48Speaker 6: that I'm like, oh, I can do what I want.
- 16:49Speaker 4: I go.
- 16:51Speaker 6: I got this four wheeler I want to buy, Like
- 16:53Speaker 6: I'm going to go pay cash for that bad boy
- 16:55Speaker 6: or whatever. Now I know I can survive a lot
- 17:01Speaker 6: worse than that kind of loss. I played football for
- 17:03Speaker 6: a long time. I'm doing well. I haven't blown my money.
- 17:06Speaker 6: But the reason I gamble is not to like for
- 17:09Speaker 6: a source of income outside of football. I gamble for
- 17:14Speaker 6: a ton of different reasons. Number one, I like to compete,
- 17:17Speaker 6: Like that's it, you know, as I love to compete.
- 17:20Speaker 6: I love to feel live watching the games. And for me,
- 17:24Speaker 6: it's I almost enjoy chasing more than when I'm winning,
- 17:27Speaker 6: which is a it's it's a very interesting thing that
- 17:30Speaker 6: tells me a little bit about myself. Is like I
- 17:33Speaker 6: like a challenge, and uh so I almost have to
- 17:35Speaker 6: be more careful when I'm up in some ways because
- 17:38Speaker 6: I can just be like all right, well, uh and
- 17:40Speaker 6: you lose some of the enjoyment. But it's it's the
- 17:43Speaker 6: it's the competitive nature of it, and then it's also
- 17:46Speaker 6: the educational nature. It's a big challenge in saying like
- 17:49Speaker 6: I can I can learn this new skill, and it's
- 17:51Speaker 6: going to take me years. But you know, I'd like
- 17:53Speaker 6: to know the things that Steve knows. I like to
- 17:55Speaker 6: like know the things that y'all know. And then on
- 17:58Speaker 6: top of that, I'll put on games just to engage
- 18:01Speaker 6: myself in the game, you know, Like I really do
- 18:04Speaker 6: pride myself in Hey, if Chicago's playing Carolina on Thursday
- 18:08Speaker 6: night in Chicago this year, I'm.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Betting that game, by the way too and zero in
- 18:12Speaker 4: that game under easy under.
- 18:17Speaker 6: But it's one of those things where like, if I
- 18:20Speaker 6: have a little something on that game, I'm going to
- 18:22Speaker 6: be on the edge of my seat till midnight on
- 18:24Speaker 6: a Thursday night when a lot of the other analysts
- 18:26Speaker 6: are not watching, and that gives me an edge because
- 18:29Speaker 6: I've watched everything, even if I had to trick myself
- 18:32Speaker 6: into watching it.

- 19:38Speaker 2: Simon, I know you want to jump in here.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I was going to pick back off a bunch
- 19:42Speaker 3: of stuff, Chris said, Where you know a lot of
- 19:45Speaker 3: stuff I do.
- 19:46Speaker 5: I joke with guys, I work with all of time.
- 19:48Speaker 3: That a lot of my sidework in the off seasons,
- 19:50Speaker 3: like Hitch, what for gamblers? Everyone remembers a movie Hitch
- 19:52Speaker 3: where he would try to help people dating. My job
- 19:55Speaker 3: is to try to talk to millionaires. So all they
- 19:57Speaker 3: do is lose money sports betting, and you know, guys
- 20:00Speaker 3: can do really well in the NFL season and then
- 20:03Speaker 3: come the end of March, madness, it's all golf, right.
- 20:05Speaker 3: That's that's the toughest part is to try to survive
- 20:07Speaker 3: that march.
- 20:08Speaker 5: And I thought it was funny. But if you're saying, Chris.
- 20:10Speaker 3: That I pitched to a lot of people that you
- 20:13Speaker 3: can easily do because you have money, is you just
- 20:16Speaker 3: get a second cell phone. And that's the move. Is
- 20:18Speaker 3: you get a gambling cell phone and you put it
- 20:21Speaker 3: away from you. If you have a if you have
- 20:22Speaker 3: a couple a couple of rounds with Devil's lettuce and
- 20:24Speaker 3: you're feeling really good and you're like, yo, this that's
- 20:26Speaker 3: good right now. Yeah, that's not a good bet. That's
- 20:29Speaker 3: that's the Devil's lettuce talk.
- 20:30Speaker 6: And so all right, one in the morning, man, I
- 20:33Speaker 6: it's the worst habit I have because I work at
- 20:35Speaker 6: night and then like I'll get in bed and I
- 20:37Speaker 6: got my phone, like all the wrong things to do
- 20:39Speaker 6: dopamine before you go to sleep, Like I got this
- 20:42Speaker 6: zen in, I've got the I got the app open,
- 20:45Speaker 6: and and I'm sitting there. And sometimes I'll wake up
- 20:50Speaker 6: two days later and put the same bet in again,
- 20:53Speaker 6: and I'm like, what the fuck was that?
- 20:55Speaker 4: You know? Like, like I'll forget I put the bed
- 20:58Speaker 4: in it one in the morning, so I got from me.
- 21:00Speaker 6: It's like avoiding the one am bets because I think
- 21:03Speaker 6: it'd be really interesting to chart myself, like by the
- 21:05Speaker 6: time of the day you put the bet in, how
- 21:07Speaker 6: do these bets actually play out?
- 21:09Speaker 4: That's a bad time to do.
- 21:10Speaker 5: It, I would say, Chad knows me, you know that professional.
- 21:14Speaker 3: I'll wake up and I'll take the wrong phone to
- 21:17Speaker 3: bed that has my apps on it and where I
- 21:19Speaker 3: text the wrong guys and I want to subconsciously do
- 21:23Speaker 3: especially people know that smoke. You'll wake up and you'll
- 21:25Speaker 3: say things to your partner in bed next to you
- 21:27Speaker 3: that you don't remember saying or doing. So I wake
- 21:29Speaker 3: up and check lines all the time while I'm half asleep,
- 21:32Speaker 3: Like I set alarms and do it during the season
- 21:34Speaker 3: and I've woken up to those exact text or bets
- 21:36Speaker 3: where it's just like, why did I love Pittsburgh so much?
- 21:39Speaker 4: Last night? When I run a.
- 21:40Speaker 7: App I figure to the other side, Oh, there's nothing
- 21:43Speaker 7: worse than a bad beat where you're like, oh, well,
- 21:45Speaker 7: at least what you know, Like I remember, I think
- 21:48Speaker 7: it was I forget which one it was.
- 21:51Speaker 6: It was, Oh, it was before I knew Antonio Pierce
- 21:55Speaker 6: was going to be the coach and the Giants were
- 21:57Speaker 6: going to Vegas. I had like bet that at one
- 22:00Speaker 6: in the morning one morning, and then I bet it again,
- 22:03Speaker 6: like you know, at noon later in the week, and
- 22:05Speaker 6: then you.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Get toot me to beat on the road. You were
- 22:07Speaker 5: sick in the head.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I was sick in the head, but you know,
- 22:09Speaker 4: like I get this.
- 22:11Speaker 6: Here's a question I have for you guys, is and
- 22:14Speaker 6: I hear you guys talking about this a lot. How
- 22:17Speaker 6: do you know when to fade the public and not
- 22:19Speaker 6: when to fade the public? Because last year I found
- 22:21Speaker 6: myself on the side of the public a lot, But
- 22:24Speaker 6: I also knew that I had different reasons than the public.
- 22:27Speaker 6: And I think sometimes we get in these oversimplified thought
- 22:31Speaker 6: patterns where you're.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Like or you just fade the public.
- 22:34Speaker 6: You fade the public, and you know, like I want
- 22:36Speaker 6: to take that icky stand, you know, like I want
- 22:39Speaker 6: to I want to walk out on the plank. But
- 22:41Speaker 6: then sometimes like with the Chiefs, this this this playoff.
- 22:45Speaker 6: You know, I noticed myself on the chief side when
- 22:49Speaker 6: it felt like that was the chalky side. But I
- 22:53Speaker 6: also felt like if you read online the perception of
- 22:56Speaker 6: the Chiefs, it actually wasn't that that high. So it's like,
- 22:59Speaker 6: how do you you know? And I'll get on Action
- 23:01Speaker 6: Network and I'm constantly charting, you know, splits and all
- 23:05Speaker 6: that stuff to see if hey like there is a
- 23:07Speaker 6: pattern as far as like the book winning or the
- 23:09Speaker 6: public winning week to week or what have you guys
- 23:12Speaker 6: found when it comes to you know that that instinct
- 23:15Speaker 6: to fade the public is it always? Is it always profitable?
- 23:19Speaker 6: And when are the right times to to fade yourself
- 23:22Speaker 6: in that thinking?
- 23:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, there's so much that goes into I think
- 23:25Speaker 3: it's it's a broad stroke statement right where it's like
- 23:28Speaker 3: there's a bunch of different factors and we're talking about
- 23:30Speaker 3: fading the public and this is just only friend of
- 23:33Speaker 3: all I'm talking but yeah, me too. The biggest thing
- 23:36Speaker 3: we're looking for, honestly, we're talking about fading in the
- 23:38Speaker 3: public is we know when me and chat are stepping
- 23:41Speaker 3: in it, and we're trying to talk ourselves not to
- 23:43Speaker 3: step in with the public like that that Ravens game
- 23:46Speaker 3: that's gonna haul me forever. That Ravens Chief game we knew,
- 23:50Speaker 3: we knew, and books were begging for mahomes money on
- 23:52Speaker 3: a plus five. Something was wrong, something something was broken,
- 23:57Speaker 3: And that's how Vegas makes their big win, right, Like
- 24:00Speaker 3: they might take a lot of little stabs on the
- 24:02Speaker 3: big you know that they happen to take fifty to
- 24:04Speaker 3: fifty bets on games, but those are their money makers,
- 24:07Speaker 3: right when everyone's on one side and everyone's walking right
- 24:10Speaker 3: into it. So that's definitely a clear spot of fading
- 24:13Speaker 3: the public. But we talked the Super Bowl is a
- 24:15Speaker 3: different beast, right, Like that's the public and the professionals.
- 24:18Speaker 3: If they line up all on one side, is that
- 24:21Speaker 3: the public side or is that just the books about
- 24:23Speaker 3: the taped You're right, so it is something the way,
- 24:26Speaker 3: But I think now the industry, it's just been watered
- 24:29Speaker 3: down so tremendously that if the Bears are on the
- 24:32Speaker 3: road and only ten percent of the people are betting
- 24:35Speaker 3: on them, and they're playing against knowing the Patriots with
- 24:38Speaker 3: Tom Brady at the time or whatever. It's like, yeah,
- 24:40Speaker 3: there's a reason. It's like, no one should be betting
- 24:42Speaker 3: on the Bears. They're about to lose by thirty points
- 24:45Speaker 3: and usually they would. So it is definitely about picking
- 24:47Speaker 3: your spots there where you just don't blindly do it.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Don't just blindly bet the fading the public. But it
- 24:53Speaker 3: is something where everyone's on this one side. You better
- 24:57Speaker 3: believe I'm not crossing six figures on the opposite side,
- 24:59Speaker 3: because that is This.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Was also a weird year because the public.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Yes, it was so good, is such a run, right,
- 25:08Speaker 1: and so Simon and I had a stretch where we
- 25:11Speaker 1: struggled in the middle of the year because we thought
- 25:13Speaker 1: we were playing the right sides against the public and
- 25:16Speaker 1: the public just that the public teams kept winning. And
- 25:19Speaker 1: also what happened was a lot of times this.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Year there were public docs And.
- 25:24Speaker 1: What's happening and bedding right now is the public is
- 25:27Speaker 1: getting so much smarter and they're understanding a little bit
- 25:31Speaker 1: of psychology that is in play with fading public perception
- 25:36Speaker 1: and fading your recency bias, so there's fewer and fewer
- 25:39Speaker 1: of those opportunities to get on the right side of
- 25:43Speaker 1: fading the public because the public is just getting so
- 25:45Speaker 1: much smarter at all of us.
- 25:47Speaker 6: Yeah, really, I think recency bias is an interesting one
- 25:50Speaker 6: because generally there are ebbs and flows, and we know that,
- 25:54Speaker 6: like I've been on teams and you got to watch
- 25:56Speaker 6: for the hangover games where you know, you played really
- 25:58Speaker 6: well the last week and all that. But I also
- 26:01Speaker 6: think like when you pay attention to certain teams, like
- 26:03Speaker 6: they're not immune to those swings, but because of organizational
- 26:07Speaker 6: structure or the coach or the way they prepare, they're
- 26:10Speaker 6: a little bit more bulletproof. And you know, trying to
- 26:12Speaker 6: identify which teams are a little bit you know that
- 26:16Speaker 6: are a little yeah, bulletproof that way where it's like
- 26:19Speaker 6: I know that I should I got to trick my
- 26:23Speaker 6: own mind after I watch a team do something the
- 26:25Speaker 6: week prior. But there are some teams that are a
- 26:27Speaker 6: little bit different, right, And so I'm trying to you know,
- 26:31Speaker 6: I've been I've been kind of charting that as well,
- 26:33Speaker 6: and so far no avail. But I do feel like
- 26:38Speaker 6: there are some teams though that because of the quarterback
- 26:41Speaker 6: or because of what they have between the years.
- 26:43Speaker 4: You know, they are a.
- 26:44Speaker 6: Little bit more recession proof coming off a good stretch,
- 26:47Speaker 6: and it's trying to find it's trying to know when
- 26:50Speaker 6: to get off.
- 26:50Speaker 4: The bandwagon is hard, you know they do and when
- 26:54Speaker 4: do I hop off?
- 26:57Speaker 1: You had a h you told us a story. I
- 27:00Speaker 1: think a year or two ago one of the biggest
- 27:03Speaker 1: sweats you've had.
- 27:05Speaker 4: Was Minnesota Buffalo.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Oh no, I was thinking, I was thinking super Bowl
- 27:11Speaker 1: national anthem before you had to present.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Oh yeah, of the Year.
- 27:16Speaker 2: But I can't remember all the details sort of what happened.
- 27:18Speaker 4: I just I've been out. Maybe it was my first
- 27:21Speaker 4: or second year out.
- 27:22Speaker 6: But like when you win Man of the Year, you're
- 27:24Speaker 6: down on the field, and if you won Man of
- 27:25Speaker 6: the Year, like the year before, you down in the field.
- 27:27Speaker 6: And I think I was down in the field to
- 27:29Speaker 6: present to maybe Kalais Campbell, to like pass the trophy
- 27:31Speaker 6: to him.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Great guy, was so excited to do that.
- 27:35Speaker 6: But you know, me, like I'm there Saturday outside the stadium,
- 27:40Speaker 6: I'm listening to soundcheck and like, you know, I want
- 27:43Speaker 6: I want to.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Get on it.
- 27:45Speaker 6: It's a little frustrating and you understand why that they
- 27:47Speaker 6: capped these these props because it is so easy. I'll
- 27:50Speaker 6: out of the Gatorade and that sort of thing. When
- 27:52Speaker 6: you saw the odds for the Gatorade bath this year,
- 27:54Speaker 6: Like obviously there's inside information that gets out. But I
- 27:57Speaker 6: had bet the anthem and I'm sitting there on sideline
- 28:00Speaker 6: next to Toronto Armstead and this is this just kind
- 28:03Speaker 6: of illustrates the dichotomy between active player and retire player.
- 28:07Speaker 6: Is He's looking at me, and I've got a timer
- 28:10Speaker 6: on my phone during the national anthem, I'm looking down.
- 28:13Speaker 6: I got my hand over my heart, but I'm like
- 28:14Speaker 6: peering down and I don't know if he thinks I
- 28:17Speaker 6: got a fucking bomb in my pocket or what, like
- 28:21Speaker 6: like i gonna do something crazy, like what is this
- 28:24Speaker 6: guy doing? And the national Anthem finishes and I win
- 28:27Speaker 6: the bet and I'm just ecstatic, and he's like, man,
- 28:30Speaker 6: you're like you miss playing or you know what's going on?
- 28:34Speaker 4: And I'm like, nah, dude, I'm betting.
- 28:35Speaker 6: The anthem, like I'm if it goes over a certain time,
- 28:39Speaker 6: you know, I win money. If it goes under, you know,
- 28:41Speaker 6: I lose the money. And he's like, I didn't know
- 28:42Speaker 6: you could do that. I'm like, just wait until you retire.
- 28:45Speaker 6: There is a lot you can do that you have
- 28:47Speaker 6: no idea about yet.
- 28:48Speaker 4: And so I think that's the fun thing.
- 28:50Speaker 6: When I was a player, I was always cognizant of gambling,
- 28:53Speaker 6: not NFL gambling. I didn't really know the lines like that,
- 28:57Speaker 6: like you know, famously, when we were underdogs, I just
- 28:59Speaker 6: knew we were under dogs because I went to look.
- 29:01Speaker 6: I want, I wanted to look and see, you know,
- 29:03Speaker 6: but I never during an NFL season knew what the
- 29:06Speaker 6: line was, you know, because obviously there's nothing in it
- 29:08Speaker 6: for us, and you know, who gives a shit.
- 29:12Speaker 4: But college football.
- 29:13Speaker 6: I'd walk around the locker room and try to find
- 29:16Speaker 6: takers on little, you know, one hundred dollars bets. You know,
- 29:19Speaker 6: we'd be out to dinner or whatever, and you know,
- 29:21Speaker 6: you got guys.
- 29:22Speaker 4: That don't understand gambling.
- 29:23Speaker 6: So like a guy might not he would say I
- 29:27Speaker 6: don't do that spread stuff like okay, So I wait
- 29:31Speaker 6: until his team's a favorite, his alma mater, and then
- 29:35Speaker 6: you know, I'd come up to that guy and be like, yo,
- 29:37Speaker 6: straight up, you know, I like, you know, I like
- 29:40Speaker 6: Ohio State this week or whatever, it is, and and
- 29:43Speaker 6: so it just illustrates like the education on the gambling
- 29:47Speaker 6: side for players, contrary to you know, the belief probably
- 29:51Speaker 6: in the wake of like the Jamison Williams and Calvin
- 29:53Speaker 6: Ridley thing like those are anomalies guys that now. The
- 29:57Speaker 6: difference is now from when I played to now is
- 29:59Speaker 6: the app apps, you know, like and just the way
- 30:02Speaker 6: the leagues. The leagues really embraced it. So I do
- 30:05Speaker 6: think you're going to get some dumb kid every once
- 30:07Speaker 6: in a while that doesn't realize he can't bet an
- 30:10Speaker 6: app or bet in certain places or bet on certain sports,
- 30:15Speaker 6: and that's part of it. And the NFL has got
- 30:17Speaker 6: to make examples of those guys. But I think for
- 30:18Speaker 6: the most part, the NFL effectively keeps those guys out
- 30:22Speaker 6: of the weeds, because I can tell you it's just
- 30:24Speaker 6: not a culture that exists in the NFL. I think
- 30:27Speaker 6: more Nathan guys like to play cards and bou rat
- 30:29Speaker 6: and craps, and you've heard about all those games on
- 30:32Speaker 6: planes and all that stuff and the amounts of money
- 30:35Speaker 6: people lose. Like I was never a card guy. I
- 30:38Speaker 6: always sit in the back of the plane and I
- 30:40Speaker 6: say hey, y'all because if I'm going to lose money,
- 30:44Speaker 6: I want to I want an experience, you know, I
- 30:46Speaker 6: don't want to lose it playing blackjack in five seconds.
- 30:50Speaker 6: I was in Vegas at the High Limit Room with
- 30:53Speaker 6: SVP and and Steve and a couple guys, and I
- 30:59Speaker 6: was kind of banged up.
- 31:01Speaker 4: But this illustrates the way a guy gave me like
- 31:03Speaker 4: a seven and I stayed.
- 31:05Speaker 6: You know, I was playing. I was playing the day
- 31:08Speaker 6: before with Thom Segura and those guys, and they were
- 31:11Speaker 6: like launching their Vodkan. There's a bunch of the men there,
- 31:13Speaker 6: Bert Kreischer, and I'm sitting at their table and I
- 31:16Speaker 6: hit on like fifteen and the whole fucking table gasped,
- 31:21Speaker 6: like what is wrong with you?
- 31:23Speaker 4: And I think it was a six, and so like,
- 31:27Speaker 4: I'm just not a I'm not a table guy.
- 31:30Speaker 6: I'm not I. If I'm gonna lose five grand I
- 31:33Speaker 6: want to sit for three hours and sweat it, you know,
- 31:37Speaker 6: like it makes me feel alive. I do not feel
- 31:40Speaker 6: alive when I walk out of a casino and I
- 31:44Speaker 6: and I'm lighter, you know.

- 32:47Speaker 2: Simon is sitting here in his Eagles hoodie.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and I know he wants to ask a million
- 32:54Speaker 1: Phillies questions. I think I mean Philly questions. I think
- 32:58Speaker 1: we got to start with the fact that Fletcher Cox
- 33:01Speaker 1: just retired. Yeah, Simon, do you want to kick off?
- 33:05Speaker 1: The Fletcher Cox questions, or do you want me to
- 33:07Speaker 1: go for it?
- 33:08Speaker 3: You fire away as long as you make sure to
- 33:10Speaker 3: bring up that they used to always stand next to
- 33:11Speaker 3: each other.
- 33:12Speaker 4: I think that's where he wanted to go.
- 33:18Speaker 1: There's no elegant way to get into it.
- 33:21Speaker 5: It was one of the greatest things in sports, dude.
- 33:23Speaker 6: I mean when we first met, I loved the guy,
- 33:29Speaker 6: like we just we just hit it off, man, you know, like.
- 33:33Speaker 4: I just loved the dude. Man.
- 33:34Speaker 6: You know, you got some teammates who you connect with immediately,
- 33:37Speaker 6: Like Lane Johnson was one for me, you know, like
- 33:39Speaker 6: I still I talked to Lane yesterday.
- 33:41Speaker 4: We'll FaceTime each other every couple of days. Just hey,
- 33:43Speaker 4: what are you doing?
- 33:44Speaker 6: Man?
- 33:44Speaker 4: You know the whole thing.
- 33:45Speaker 6: Fletch was the same kind of guy for me and
- 33:48Speaker 6: where I was in my career. You know, I had
- 33:51Speaker 6: never been Fletch, but I used to be a guy,
- 33:54Speaker 6: you know, like one of the guys. And now I'm
- 33:57Speaker 6: on a team as an aging veteran, and I need
- 34:00Speaker 6: this guy right for me to have a good stop
- 34:04Speaker 6: in Philly. We got to work well together, we got
- 34:07Speaker 6: to get along, and so you never know when you
- 34:09Speaker 6: roll up to a new team. You kind of you
- 34:10Speaker 6: eye up the room and you see the personalities. And
- 34:13Speaker 6: I got to say this, when I walked in that
- 34:14Speaker 6: room in twenty and seventeen, I knew I had a
- 34:18Speaker 6: steep climb to like gain respect and reps and all
- 34:21Speaker 6: that sort of thing. But I had the right guys
- 34:24Speaker 6: in the room, man, Like I didn't have to worry
- 34:26Speaker 6: about being too much of a leader, you know, I
- 34:28Speaker 6: could kind of assume that responsibility naturally organically. I knew
- 34:32Speaker 6: that on the field because Fletcher is so unselfish and
- 34:35Speaker 6: so cool that like, we're going to work well together,
- 34:38Speaker 6: He's going to be unselfish, like he's going to run
- 34:40Speaker 6: games that are that help other people. You know, like
- 34:43Speaker 6: a lot of times Rushers they're very selfish, like they're
- 34:46Speaker 6: looking at that number, and we can be that way
- 34:47Speaker 6: because our professional career, you know, hinges on that number.
- 34:52Speaker 6: And but Fletch was never insecure. Fletch was always he
- 34:55Speaker 6: was willing to help other people. Me and bo Allen
- 34:57Speaker 6: were just talking about this the other day when he retired,
- 34:59Speaker 6: because together there's nobody and I tweeted this, that made
- 35:03Speaker 6: people better around him more than Fletcher, and that included me,
- 35:07Speaker 6: you know, like in my two year stop, I get
- 35:10Speaker 6: very celebrated for being a role player there that came
- 35:14Speaker 6: in and did my job at a high level when
- 35:16Speaker 6: I was called upon. If there was no Fletcher, it's
- 35:19Speaker 6: not the same way. He was just so great to
- 35:22Speaker 6: rush next to. He was accommodating and if you're smart,
- 35:27Speaker 6: you know how.
- 35:27Speaker 4: To eat off that guy.
- 35:28Speaker 6: And he never had a problem with other people getting credit.
- 35:32Speaker 6: He was old school when he was in his prime.
- 35:35Speaker 6: Somebody's asking me about the D line last year versus
- 35:37Speaker 6: the D line in twenty seventeen.
- 35:40Speaker 4: And two years ago.
- 35:41Speaker 6: The contention was that D line was a lot better,
- 35:44Speaker 6: and probably so, but they also had better coverage on
- 35:47Speaker 6: the back end. But there was one big difference between
- 35:49Speaker 6: that seventeen team and the D lines over the last
- 35:51Speaker 6: two years. Is Fletcher Cox in his prime. And I
- 35:54Speaker 6: thought Fletcher had a great year this year, and I
- 35:56Speaker 6: think a lot of props to him for going out
- 35:58Speaker 6: on top because he played really well. But that guy
- 36:01Speaker 6: in twenty seventeen was out of the nineteen nineties, and
- 36:05Speaker 6: the way the game is today, guys have not as
- 36:08Speaker 6: they've adjusted and the games change.
- 36:10Speaker 4: The physicality is different, the body types are different. This
- 36:13Speaker 4: guy could have.
- 36:13Speaker 6: Been on a team in nineteen ninety six from a
- 36:16Speaker 6: run game standpoint, from a physicality standpoint, and the explosiveness
- 36:20Speaker 6: to go rush the passer. So complete player, awesome person,
- 36:24Speaker 6: and he went out on top and I got to
- 36:26Speaker 6: mention BG two because he's going to get another year.
- 36:29Speaker 4: That was another guy for me that made my life easy.
- 36:32Speaker 4: You know, Like I'm a left end.
- 36:35Speaker 6: BG can play both sides, he can play inside, he
- 36:37Speaker 6: can play out. If I play right end, I look drunk.
- 36:40Speaker 6: I go over to the left end. And it's not
- 36:42Speaker 6: the easiest thing in the world for BG to have
- 36:44Speaker 6: to give up his spot because this is where we're
- 36:46Speaker 6: going to be the best with this combination of rushers
- 36:48Speaker 6: on third down.
- 36:49Speaker 4: But he never blinked. He was always like, you want.
- 36:52Speaker 6: To rush over here, You rush over here, Chris, I'll
- 36:54Speaker 6: rush inside, and we'd run games the same way, or
- 36:57Speaker 6: he'd play right end, and he was just so unselfish
- 37:00Speaker 6: show you know. I think what goes into a great
- 37:02Speaker 6: defensive line is not just the players, but it's the
- 37:05Speaker 6: connection and it's the personality. And I can tell you
- 37:07Speaker 6: whether me and Fletcher Cox would take the field. I
- 37:12Speaker 6: wanted to go to the limit for him, and he
- 37:14Speaker 6: wanted to go to limit for me, and BG want
- 37:16Speaker 6: to go to limit for me, and vice versa, and
- 37:17Speaker 6: Vinnie Curry and those guys like we had a very
- 37:19Speaker 6: strong social connection that I think people overlook sometimes when
- 37:24Speaker 6: there's a group of personalities, whether it's a wide receiver
- 37:26Speaker 6: room or a defensive line room. They might all be
- 37:29Speaker 6: great players, but can they click together? And that's the
- 37:32Speaker 6: invisibility of trying to evaluate going into a season. This
- 37:36Speaker 6: team looks really strong here, but if they're all individuals,
- 37:39Speaker 6: or they don't mesh well together, or like Jacksonville for instance,
- 37:42Speaker 6: just popped into my head with the wide receiving core,
- 37:44Speaker 6: if they all are slot receivers, then that's going to
- 37:47Speaker 6: be a problem. And eventually it's going to rear its
- 37:49Speaker 6: head and it's gonna hurt Calvin Ridley's development. It's going
- 37:52Speaker 6: to hurt you know, all these guys developments. So I
- 37:55Speaker 6: think the fits really important, but also the people. And
- 37:57Speaker 6: Fletch was one of the best people I play with.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll just close the loop for saying as an
- 38:03Speaker 3: Eagles fan, it was it was sad.
- 38:04Speaker 5: It was a sad week. Kelsey News Hawks. Yeah, it's
- 38:09Speaker 5: like as a as a city.
- 38:13Speaker 3: We latched in these guys who just worked really hard,
- 38:15Speaker 3: and you know, every personality is welcome, from the crazy
- 38:20Speaker 3: type of Dawkins to beg who is just one of
- 38:22Speaker 3: the funniest, most big loving dudes ever. But he had
- 38:25Speaker 3: to earn it, Like we did not love him right away.
- 38:28Speaker 3: That's just how he is where he was successful and
- 38:30Speaker 3: then you know, now he's our longest tenured vet. It's
- 38:33Speaker 3: just funny how things come full circle. So yeah, Pitter British,
- 38:37Speaker 3: But you also mentioned Lane Johnson's name, so it's just
- 38:39Speaker 3: an easy opening for me to bring up the town
- 38:41Speaker 3: of Morstown where Lane Johnson. I don't know if he
- 38:43Speaker 3: still lives there he used to. I don't know if
- 38:46Speaker 3: you know this, Chris. I grew up actually in Morristown
- 38:48Speaker 3: and my wife did, yes, And that's that's the funny
- 38:52Speaker 3: connection where I knew Megan. I was younger obviously than her,
- 38:55Speaker 3: but she was obviously your wife is very beautiful. I
- 38:58Speaker 3: was like looking up to this beautiful senior who was
- 39:02Speaker 3: Joe's older sister. It made me think of a funny
- 39:07Speaker 3: story of Joe who was two years older than me.
- 39:09Speaker 3: So you know it is back in the day when
- 39:10Speaker 3: you were in high school, Like when the older kids
- 39:13Speaker 3: would invite you out on an L ride, you would
- 39:15Speaker 3: take the L ride. You'd be like, Oh, I get
- 39:17Speaker 3: to hang out the older kids. So I wasn't really
- 39:19Speaker 3: a smoker. Then again, I was young, So I was
- 39:21Speaker 3: losing my mind in the back of this car and
- 39:23Speaker 3: we're riding around this neighborhood and we pull up and
- 39:26Speaker 3: who is a but Joe O'Malley shooting free throws in
- 39:28Speaker 3: his driveway. And he walked out to the car, hit
- 39:30Speaker 3: the l a couple of times and had a small
- 39:32Speaker 3: talk with the dudes about the party that weekend. And
- 39:34Speaker 3: it was like a days and confused moment. I was like,
- 39:36Speaker 3: these are the coolest people in the entire world. Yeah,
- 39:39Speaker 3: smoking it on their driveway and broad but you mean
- 39:44Speaker 3: you cracked them up when it was like, I can't
- 39:45Speaker 3: believe that's Megan. Like I couldn't believe that was your wife,
- 39:48Speaker 3: just because you know, I have a different perspective. I
- 39:50Speaker 3: knew when she was mad young. Yeah, she was obviously
- 39:52Speaker 3: great athlete. So like you and keep having kids, man,
- 39:55Speaker 3: you're having just pumping out d one athletes.
- 39:57Speaker 6: Hey Cutler asked me last night, he was like, Yo,
- 40:00Speaker 6: who do you think has the best chance of having
- 40:01Speaker 6: a professional athlete in the family. I was like, well,
- 40:03Speaker 6: Kyle's the genetic freak in our family.
- 40:06Speaker 4: Like, it's not even close the physical ability this guy has.
- 40:09Speaker 6: Now he has two girls right now, and now I
- 40:12Speaker 6: think they have a great chance of being professional athletes
- 40:14Speaker 6: just off the strength of his geneticism. But I say
- 40:17Speaker 6: that my ace in the hole is my wife is like,
- 40:20Speaker 6: I mean she's a dog dude, Like, like, not only
- 40:24Speaker 6: is she a great athlete, but she will try to
- 40:25Speaker 6: kill you to win and like and like, really we
- 40:29Speaker 6: have gotten more arguments over like competitive stuff than like
- 40:33Speaker 6: relationship stuff. I remember our honeymoon. We were somewhere and
- 40:36Speaker 6: there was nothing to do, so we went out and
- 40:38Speaker 6: played tennis, right because she likes tennis a little bit,
- 40:41Speaker 6: and at that age I was it didn't hurt to
- 40:43Speaker 6: run around.
- 40:44Speaker 4: So we were playing full court tennis because I didn't
- 40:48Speaker 4: know the rules.
- 40:48Speaker 5: What is this college name first met her?
- 40:50Speaker 4: No, this is like our honeymoon. This is like my
- 40:53Speaker 4: seventh year in the league.
- 40:53Speaker 6: This is right before we go to some island and
- 40:56Speaker 6: they got a tennis court and nobody's out there.
- 40:58Speaker 4: Neither of us really knows the rules of tennis. Now
- 41:01Speaker 4: she's really into it.
- 41:02Speaker 6: But we played full court like, you know, like everything
- 41:06Speaker 6: was in bounds, from whatever you want to call those
- 41:10Speaker 6: alleys to the little two boxes in the front, like
- 41:13Speaker 6: listeners were thrown up in their hands. But we just
- 41:18Speaker 6: played like and we'd play for hours and every game
- 41:22Speaker 6: would end in a fight where we wouldn't talk the
- 41:24Speaker 6: rest of the day. Like we'd be up in Montana
- 41:26Speaker 6: at my parents' house today a little tennis court, and
- 41:28Speaker 6: I had to sign a contract and put it on
- 41:30Speaker 6: the fridge and make her sign it, and it's.
- 41:33Speaker 4: Written, I'm Megan Long.
- 41:36Speaker 6: Will not take losses, i will stop being a sore
- 41:39Speaker 6: loser on vacation. And she had to sign it and
- 41:42Speaker 6: it's still in the fridge from ten years ago, you know,
- 41:45Speaker 6: because literally she would stomp off the court.
- 41:48Speaker 4: So I got that working for me. She's a great athlete.
- 41:50Speaker 6: I got two young sons, eight and five, and then
- 41:55Speaker 6: I've got an eight month old girl who looks like
- 41:56Speaker 6: she's gonna give me a scholarship and softball I'm hoping
- 41:59Speaker 6: or something like that.
- 42:00Speaker 4: So you know, you just hope for the best.
- 42:02Speaker 6: I grew up with a dad who played, And obviously
- 42:05Speaker 6: there's a lot of expectations and pressure that I don't
- 42:07Speaker 6: want all my kids. And you know, I don't know
- 42:09Speaker 6: how much of that I can control, but I can
- 42:12Speaker 6: control not making them feel like they got to be
- 42:16Speaker 6: me or they got to be athletes. Like I just
- 42:18Speaker 6: want my kids to be good, hard working, down to
- 42:21Speaker 6: earth people.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Hey, and if you're gonna play sports, you better be
- 42:24Speaker 4: a killer, you know what I mean.
- 42:25Speaker 6: And you better be a worker, because that's the way
- 42:27Speaker 6: my dad talked to me, was like, if you're going
- 42:30Speaker 6: to do this, you don't have to do this. But
- 42:32Speaker 6: whether you're going to be a rocket scientist or a
- 42:34Speaker 6: football player, nobody, I don't want to see anybody out
- 42:37Speaker 6: working you. And that's that's what I'd like to instill
- 42:40Speaker 6: my kids. And hopefully if I can do that, maybe
- 42:41Speaker 6: they'll pay for some of my gambling habits later in life.
- 42:46Speaker 5: They will.
- 42:46Speaker 3: And you're in a game the genetic gold mine of
- 42:48Speaker 3: you and Megan Man, That's what I'm saying.
- 42:50Speaker 5: Even if they even if.
- 42:51Speaker 3: They aren't right all you say you want them to be,
- 42:53Speaker 3: they're going to be such freak athletes.
- 42:55Speaker 4: That's what. Yeah.
- 42:55Speaker 5: Hopefully you know you hit a home run picking the
- 42:57Speaker 5: right woman hopefully.
- 42:58Speaker 6: Man, that's so funny. It's such a small world thing.
- 43:01Speaker 6: But yeah, she was an Eagles fan growing up.
- 43:03Speaker 3: And yeah, I used to call Doug Peterson mister Peterson, bro,
- 43:06Speaker 3: like I knew Drew Peterson. So I am as mister
- 43:08Speaker 3: Peterson before he was Doug Peterson, which is always weird.
- 43:11Speaker 4: Well more sounds a great town man. And Lane does
- 43:15Speaker 4: live there.
- 43:15Speaker 6: And I come up for Inside the NFL all year
- 43:18Speaker 6: this year and literally the first place I go is
- 43:21Speaker 6: I'd have my driver because I'd get a driver up.
- 43:23Speaker 6: It's four hour drive. I would go straight to Lane's
- 43:26Speaker 6: house and like, you know, me and Lane on Monday nights,
- 43:29Speaker 6: like I miss that, I miss my friends, and like
- 43:32Speaker 6: I met, he knows I understand him and I and
- 43:35Speaker 6: and he understands me. And you know, watching him sit
- 43:38Speaker 6: there at ten at night and with the treatment stuff
- 43:41Speaker 6: on and he's spending every waking minute trying to get
- 43:44Speaker 6: ready for games, it just reinforces. Like you come out
- 43:48Speaker 6: of it, you're like, damn, we worked hard, and nobody
- 43:50Speaker 6: works hard in Lane and watching him every Monday night,
- 43:54Speaker 6: whether it's nine o'clock, ten o'clock, whenever I pull up,
- 43:57Speaker 6: he's taking like electrodes off of him, or he's got
- 44:00Speaker 6: his feet in cold water, he's watching film with like
- 44:04Speaker 6: virtual reality. Gag goes on like doing five things at once.
- 44:07Speaker 6: Nobody works harder than the lane. So just awesome dudes, man.
- 44:12Speaker 6: And it is hard for Eagles fans because these guys
- 44:14Speaker 6: are turning over and now this puts a lot of
- 44:15Speaker 6: pressure on guys like Jalen Carter. In my opinion, who
- 44:19Speaker 6: Jalen Carter to me can be a Hall of Famer
- 44:21Speaker 6: like easy, It's up to him. And so for guys
- 44:25Speaker 6: like that, they have to look at this as an
- 44:27Speaker 6: opportunity and also a responsibility to be the next Jason Kelsey,
- 44:31Speaker 6: to be the next Fletcher. You're gonna see these guys
- 44:34Speaker 6: matriculate and you kind of lose not only the players
- 44:37Speaker 6: with the leadership.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Well listen, I wish Jalen Carter had fitted out the
- 44:41Speaker 1: year strong so we could have won our Jalen Carter
- 44:44Speaker 1: wins Defensive Player of the Year.
- 44:47Speaker 4: He's the best defensive player of the year.
- 44:49Speaker 2: He was great.
- 44:50Speaker 4: But you can sell that. You can't sell that defense
- 44:52Speaker 4: is too bad.
- 44:53Speaker 1: We got we gotta let you go. But I think
- 44:56Speaker 1: we're gonna want you back. We're gonna want Kyle. We're
- 44:58Speaker 1: gonna have one to have a Chica, I'll go Philly Showdown.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Plus we have about eighty five trivia questions for you
- 45:04Speaker 1: about playing in the NFL, for you, your father, your brother,
