- 0:10Speaker 2: The World's a Pigeon podcast, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:21Speaker 3: There's a chance that the Cleveland guys just know how
- 0:24Speaker 3: to coach line play. They had great lines in Cleveland
- 0:27Speaker 3: for the four years at Alex van Pelt was there,
- 0:29Speaker 3: the strike system and all these little things that they.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Do, and a tutorial on that way. In fairness, I
- 0:35Speaker 4: didn't watch. I haven't seen any of the one on one.
- 0:37Speaker 4: You're not You're not I'm watching. You don't have the
- 0:39Speaker 4: Sunday ticket with the Cleveland Browns.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Strike systems, you know different things.
- 0:44Speaker 5: You know, you know what my strike system is, strike first,
- 0:47Speaker 5: strike hard, no more.
- 0:49Speaker 3: My god, I can't wait to hear my jingles.
- 0:52Speaker 5: I was still doing that.
- 0:53Speaker 4: I have a jingle to Sneaky Territory.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, if we were close, we'd give Judah
- 1:00Speaker 2: the boat with the bag, you know, but maybe a.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Boat had another horrific draw near the sideline.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Did you get that one? Huh?
- 1:07Speaker 6: I thank you for making me a better hurt.
- 1:12Speaker 4: That sounded sarcastic.
- 1:13Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:15Speaker 7: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals, buy a Toyota
- 1:19Speaker 7: dot com.
- 1:21Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:25Speaker 2: atche Let's Stadium. The Patriots are back on the field practicing.
- 1:29Speaker 2: No pads today, but they were out. From what I saw,
- 1:33Speaker 2: it was a pretty good tempoed practice. Very hot. I
- 1:37Speaker 2: would say. Temperatures are in the nineties.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Down there, definitely the hottest stage camp.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Sun's out, no shade, so good day for conditioning. They
- 1:45Speaker 2: did do a lot of running even before practice. But uh,
- 1:50Speaker 2: I would say, you know, a decent practice from what
- 1:52Speaker 2: I saw, but obviously we're going to get into it.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Matt Judan was back on the field, so I assume
- 1:58Speaker 2: somebody sat down and had to talk with somebody, and.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Girod Mayo had to talk with Matthew Judon. He told
- 2:04Speaker 4: us before.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Practice and it made clear what the expectations were if
- 2:07Speaker 2: you're going to be out there, and he was out
- 2:10Speaker 2: there participating fully fully, So all's well right now.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll see tomorrow when Pat's come on.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Patriota, right, that's a great.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Pointcause everything was good the first four days Pats came on.
- 2:21Speaker 4: It wasn't so good. I would be surprised to see
- 2:24Speaker 4: anything resembling what we saw Monday. Again, I'd be very surprised.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't
- 2:30Speaker 2: see him participating.
- 2:33Speaker 4: That to me is something like Monday, not as disrespectful. Yeah. Yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 4: I'm expecting him to participate on on Friday.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Uh. Devon had his deal announced yesterday, so that's one down,
- 2:45Speaker 2: one to go.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, jud It's good to see him back out there.
- 2:49Speaker 5: But I am interested to see. But it's just it
- 2:51Speaker 5: felt to me like maybe things are moving in the
- 2:53Speaker 5: right direction and you know, like they know it's going
- 2:55Speaker 5: to get done hopefully. I mean that's I think next
- 2:58Speaker 5: next practice, if he's out there, maybe that's a good sign.
- 3:00Speaker 5: But be nice to just resolve this. I think the
- 3:03Speaker 5: longer it hangs over the team, the more of a
- 3:04Speaker 5: distraction it is. And you know, he was kind of
- 3:06Speaker 5: back out there today, but not his usual self, not
- 3:08Speaker 5: out there throwing balls to all the fans or any
- 3:11Speaker 5: of that stuff. He just kind of was there doing
- 3:13Speaker 5: his job, you know, being in the drills. So we'll see,
- 3:15Speaker 5: we'll see where it's going.
- 3:16Speaker 4: But I will say one change from the first four days.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I thought all the positional drills, all the pre practice stuff,
- 3:24Speaker 4: he was sort of last, you know, and usually guys
- 3:29Speaker 4: of that stature lead off those drills, you know, and
- 3:33Speaker 4: today he was leading off the drills. And then when
- 3:36Speaker 4: they went to you know, full team, he was out
- 3:39Speaker 4: there seven on seven, he was out there, so he
- 3:42Speaker 4: was taking all the reps and doing all the things today.
- 3:45Speaker 4: I think that is a good sign that like, maybe
- 3:48Speaker 4: he doesn't have to be happy about it, but he
- 3:50Speaker 4: understands that this is what you have to do and
- 3:53Speaker 4: we'll try to figure out, we'll try to get a resolution.
- 3:55Speaker 4: But what you did on Monday was unacceptable. And Gerard
- 3:59Speaker 4: talked about you know, someone asked him like sort of pointedly,
- 4:03Speaker 4: did the fact that that Godshaw you know, had sort
- 4:06Speaker 4: of been here and put the pads on and took
- 4:08Speaker 4: part in the elevens does that help his cause? And
- 4:12Speaker 4: Mail admitted, yeah, it does. And so I wonder if
- 4:16Speaker 4: that was part of the message to judeon Okay, what else?
- 4:20Speaker 5: So big red zone day? I mean, I think that's
- 4:22Speaker 5: the headline of it. It was just a lot of
- 4:24Speaker 5: red zone work, and that's something usually we were used
- 4:26Speaker 5: to starting there when Belichick was running practices, and so
- 4:29Speaker 5: today we finally got there. There was still some middle
- 4:31Speaker 5: of the field stuff, but you know, things predictably got
- 4:34Speaker 5: a little bit tougher. You know, I don't know. I mean,
- 4:37Speaker 5: you guys can wait. And I just I thought it
- 4:38Speaker 5: was all kind of similar. I mean, they're certainly the
- 4:40Speaker 5: offense is you know, they're making some plays. It's you know,
- 4:43Speaker 5: it's not a disaster for them. And you know, Drake
- 4:45Speaker 5: May made a couple of plays and I thought he
- 4:47Speaker 5: you know, one particular play looked like he audibled to
- 4:49Speaker 5: something and you know, was able to get the ball
- 4:51Speaker 5: out quick. And you know he had a couple of
- 4:53Speaker 5: nice plays too. Joe Milton, you know, again doesn't get
- 4:55Speaker 5: a lot of chances. But yeah, I didn't make in
- 4:56Speaker 5: the mind and see as.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Much from Milton today on platform on time. I thought
- 5:01Speaker 4: there was sometimes that his athleticism is just so immense.
- 5:04Speaker 4: He moves around and buy his time. May, on the
- 5:08Speaker 4: other hand, I thought there were a couple of those
- 5:09Speaker 4: Patriots plays today, you know that we joked around that
- 5:13Speaker 4: looks like a play hard play action turned back foot
- 5:16Speaker 4: balls out fifteen yard out to Mitchell Mitchell Wilcox, Right,
- 5:20Speaker 4: that's all good. I had to remember that.
- 5:22Speaker 2: One, you know, one of your guys. So I like
- 5:24Speaker 2: that Phil Perry may had more good throws in this
- 5:30Speaker 2: practice than he had in the last three practices. So
- 5:32Speaker 2: that might not be saying much.
- 5:33Speaker 4: No, and I don't like I guess I try not
- 5:35Speaker 4: to get bogged down in the numbers and the stats.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I don't chart every play, you know, I write them
- 5:41Speaker 4: all down just to sort of remember, you know, what
- 5:44Speaker 4: happened and who the ball was intended for, who was
- 5:47Speaker 4: in coverage, and stuff like that. But I did think
- 5:50Speaker 4: that there were more moments today that I thought that
- 5:52Speaker 4: looked normal, that looked good, that you know, they weren't
- 5:54Speaker 4: always successful. As a matter of fact, he threw a
- 5:57Speaker 4: nice crosser to Jalen Polk and he'd like to see,
- 6:00Speaker 4: you know, a nice clean catch, was sort of a
- 6:01Speaker 4: double clutch. Then the next play he's got Douglass sort
- 6:04Speaker 4: of coming over the middle open and he sailed it
- 6:07Speaker 4: over his head. So still, I don't want to say
- 6:10Speaker 4: everything was perfect and like, oh all that worrying about Drake. No,
- 6:14Speaker 4: but I thought there were more more There was more
- 6:16Speaker 4: normalcy to the game today. It was I thought for
- 6:18Speaker 4: him than we've seen.
- 6:19Speaker 2: And then we have Colin Coward who looked into the camera,
- 6:23Speaker 2: who looked into the camera and said, don't be surprised
- 6:26Speaker 2: if Joe Milton wins this job. He actually said.
- 6:30Speaker 4: That, So I don't really even think that deserves conversation.
- 6:36Speaker 5: I mean he got like what four reps? I mean,
- 6:38Speaker 5: I don't know. It's just like at a certain point, like.
- 6:40Speaker 4: You just two of them. We ran around for twenty.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Minutes and may and okay, here you go, Joe, here's
- 6:44Speaker 5: four for you, and you know, okay, okay.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Then did you notice there weren't a lot of plays
- 6:48Speaker 4: period today? I mean most of the practice was that
- 6:50Speaker 4: whatever you want to call the extended, like first day
- 6:54Speaker 4: of high school football practice, Like we can't hit, We're
- 6:57Speaker 4: just going to go out there and do our calisthenics.
- 6:59Speaker 4: And it was like over an hour.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Yeah, warm up, Yeah, it was I mean I said
- 7:03Speaker 5: to having two Even when they got into the red one,
- 7:04Speaker 5: it was like three reps for.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Here, three plays here, four plays here, four plays there. Yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 4: and then you're right then like Zappi would come in,
- 7:12Speaker 4: then there will be three plays, three plays. Then Milton
- 7:14Speaker 4: would go in.
- 7:15Speaker 5: But I think Milton Zappi each got like one one
- 7:17Speaker 5: team period and that was it, like the mop up
- 7:20Speaker 5: the third reps.
- 7:21Speaker 2: So I don't know, Well, if you look at the
- 7:23Speaker 2: cadence of the practices, you know, they were off yesterday,
- 7:26Speaker 2: they come back in shells today. Probably what we were
- 7:30Speaker 2: gonna see tomorrow and Saturday. Obviously it's gonna be in pads,
- 7:34Speaker 2: but they're gonna start ramping it up even more than
- 7:37Speaker 2: the pads practice that we had before. Maybe we'll see
- 7:40Speaker 2: goal line with some actual hitting.
- 7:42Speaker 4: It'd be great.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Well, you know, I just think Fred, the next two
- 7:45Speaker 5: days is probably gonna be in pads. And this is
- 7:47Speaker 5: this is kind of it for training camp. I mean,
- 7:48Speaker 5: this is, you know, we have two practices Monday Tuesday
- 7:51Speaker 5: next week. I'm sure you know they'll probably be you know,
- 7:53Speaker 5: something in there, but you know, there's also going to
- 7:55Speaker 5: be large portion of those two practices that are guys
- 7:58Speaker 5: on cards, guys getting ready to run plays, you know,
- 8:00Speaker 5: some of the backups getting ready, you know, especially the
- 8:02Speaker 5: Tuesday practice. So I just think the next two days
- 8:04Speaker 5: are you really vital to this team? I think they
- 8:07Speaker 5: they really would ideally like to, you know.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Just take that you're so calling the next two days
- 8:11Speaker 4: make or break. Yeah, but it's it's it's fun.
- 8:15Speaker 5: I mean, this is you know, these two this week
- 8:17Speaker 5: and then you joint practice and that that's it. I
- 8:19Speaker 5: mean we're kind of done with training camp after these
- 8:21Speaker 5: next two days.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Yeah. I feel like the Joe Milton conversation is exactly
- 8:26Speaker 3: what we talked about in May, which is that he
- 8:29Speaker 3: he looks like Captain America in a football field. I mean,
- 8:32Speaker 3: the guys six five two thirty two thirty five and
- 8:35Speaker 3: has a Canon arm. So there's gonna be a lot
- 8:37Speaker 3: of people and this is what we said. There's gonna
- 8:39Speaker 3: be a lot of people that are gonna come out
- 8:41Speaker 3: to these practices and they're gonna look at it and
- 8:43Speaker 3: they're gonna say, one's a really big dude that's mobile
- 8:46Speaker 3: with a cannon arm, and the other is a really
- 8:48Speaker 3: big dude that's mobile with the Canon arm. And it's
- 8:50Speaker 3: just gonna be, uh, you know, which one you feel
- 8:52Speaker 3: like completed more passes that day is going to all
- 8:54Speaker 3: of a sudden be the better quarterback. And that's exactly
- 8:57Speaker 3: how I feel what has happened so far with Drake
- 9:00Speaker 3: May and Joe Milton. But I agree with what you know,
- 9:02Speaker 3: you guys were saying about Drake May I thought today
- 9:05Speaker 3: was a step forward.
- 9:06Speaker 4: For him, a better day day.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Mentally, it seemed like pre snap, you know, knowing where
- 9:10Speaker 3: his eyes were supposed to go, answers things like that.
- 9:12Speaker 3: It was a little bit more fluid, and he got
- 9:14Speaker 3: the ball out a little bit faster and that allowed
- 9:17Speaker 3: him to shine a little bit more. But overall, I
- 9:20Speaker 3: just feel like the whole conversation between those two guys is, Yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 3: you know, to a layman, you come out here at
- 9:26Speaker 3: practice and you watch them both throw a football. Joe
- 9:29Speaker 3: Milton's arm is incredible. It's it's incredible. There's no other
- 9:33Speaker 3: way to put it.
- 9:34Speaker 5: That one throw. I think it was his last rap
- 9:36Speaker 5: where it was like same thing. He scrambled and then
- 9:38Speaker 5: he just absolutely unleashed. Like even Zoe was.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Like whoa like?
- 9:42Speaker 4: I mean, it was whoa buddy like.
- 9:44Speaker 5: It was full display of what Milton can do. And
- 9:46Speaker 5: in short range the pork the receiver had no chance.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Yeah, the deep bat.
- 9:49Speaker 4: I don't like to say I told you so or anything,
- 9:51Speaker 4: so I you know what Colin Coward saying that he
- 9:54Speaker 4: should don't be surprised if he's the starter. No one
- 9:57Speaker 4: could have foreseen that happening.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Well, we all knew that that was going to happen,
- 10:01Speaker 2: did we all? The question was was it a did
- 10:03Speaker 2: we all? Or no?
- 10:05Speaker 4: The question was fingerwebs?
- 10:07Speaker 2: The question was was it a dumb move by the
- 10:09Speaker 2: Patriots to draft him because it hurts Drake May.
- 10:12Speaker 4: I don't think we know the question.
- 10:13Speaker 3: I don't think we know the answer to that yet,
- 10:15Speaker 3: because if we don't know Drake May, you know if
- 10:17Speaker 3: this affects him mentally or not. And I did take
- 10:19Speaker 3: you know, notice a little bit today, no backflips and him.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Fake a couple of yeah is pretty good.
- 10:27Speaker 3: You know, he was doing those backflips when they were
- 10:29Speaker 3: doing the into the throws into the net, and every
- 10:31Speaker 3: time he'd hit one, he'd backflip and the crowd would
- 10:34Speaker 3: go crazy. And and today it was a little bit
- 10:36Speaker 3: more subdued, like he wasn't necessarily backflips.
- 10:39Speaker 2: No Jude on playing catch, Maybe d say, hey, listen,
- 10:42Speaker 2: we got work to do, you know, let's focus on that.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Maybe you know, he gave them a little leash, and
- 10:50Speaker 2: maybe he's pulling that leash back a little bit. I
- 10:52Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Well, to be clear, my my fear on the thing
- 10:56Speaker 4: was the unnecessary noise that would.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Create and that would hurt and.
- 11:00Speaker 4: We have well, we have noise, that's all. No Look,
- 11:05Speaker 4: that's my fear was that it would create unnecessary.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Noise, it will help hurt Drake May.
- 11:10Speaker 4: But I might. I said it might.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I never did say well, I never disagreed there would
- 11:14Speaker 2: be noise.
- 11:16Speaker 4: I just said it was inviting unnecessary distraction. But you
- 11:20Speaker 4: got it.
- 11:21Speaker 2: We've had that over the years with with these backup
- 11:24Speaker 2: quarterbacks and the guy like Joe Milton. Of course it's
- 11:26Speaker 2: going to happen.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I know we have had it over the years. That's
- 11:29Speaker 4: why I thought it might happen again.
- 11:30Speaker 2: The thing, but the question is will it be to
- 11:32Speaker 2: the detriment of Drake May.
- 11:34Speaker 4: That's that's not my question. My question is creating unnecessary
- 11:37Speaker 4: distractions for who the team.
- 11:40Speaker 5: The thing I underestimate is that literally one person has
- 11:42Speaker 5: the power to start that all. I mean, there's one
- 11:45Speaker 5: person righting about Joe Milton right now, right. I haven't
- 11:47Speaker 5: seen anybody else.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Oh, evidently Colin Coward.
- 11:50Speaker 5: Coward say that he did say from someone who was
- 11:54Speaker 5: a practice because Colin Coward hasn't been in practice god,
- 11:57Speaker 5: so he did say it doesn't take much's but anyone
- 12:00Speaker 5: to light walk away.
- 12:01Speaker 4: I think the bottom line is I do. I agree
- 12:03Speaker 4: with the panel, and I thought it was a better
- 12:05Speaker 4: day for me today.
- 12:07Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 12:07Speaker 5: I would say a couple of things that stood out
- 12:09Speaker 5: to me were just, you know, continuing to charge some
- 12:11Speaker 5: of the personnel uses. It's just Juju's not getting chances,
- 12:14Speaker 5: like he's not really out there much like I think
- 12:16Speaker 5: I had him for three reps in eleven eleven. Meanwhile,
- 12:19Speaker 5: you've got eighty eighty three. It's Booty and Rager. They're
- 12:22Speaker 5: out there a bunch one and two and six are
- 12:26Speaker 5: getting their share of reps. And Thornton too. Who you know.
- 12:28Speaker 5: I'll let Paul kind of talk about him a little bit,
- 12:29Speaker 5: but you know, it's just Youju doesn't seem in the.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Comment was an off air conversation. I told you that
- 12:34Speaker 4: was an.
- 12:34Speaker 5: Off just you thought he's been doing okay.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Now you've got raising expectations. I said, you're not allowed
- 12:41Speaker 4: to throw this back in my face, but I think
- 12:43Speaker 4: he's receiver.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Oh I I thought I interpreted that as if he's
- 12:47Speaker 5: not good this year, you're not allowed to come.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Back and be like you thought he was good.
- 12:49Speaker 4: I think he's I think if he's done well, you
- 12:52Speaker 4: say it, No, I think he has done well. I
- 12:54Speaker 4: think that they have. We talked about this on Tuesday.
- 12:57Speaker 4: They have a lot of different receivers to flash at
- 12:59Speaker 4: different times. I think none of them has really flashed consistently.
- 13:04Speaker 4: I think closest to that has been Thornton. And he
- 13:07Speaker 4: had a couple more really good reps in the red
- 13:09Speaker 4: zone today against Christian Gonzales, and it wasn't in the
- 13:14Speaker 4: full team work. So I always sort of, you know,
- 13:18Speaker 4: take those with a you know, a little bit of
- 13:20Speaker 4: a jaundice. I I don't necessarily think it's the same,
- 13:23Speaker 4: but I think he consistently gets open and he did.
- 13:27Speaker 4: He made a really good inside move for a quick
- 13:29Speaker 4: out in the in the red zone, full team work,
- 13:32Speaker 4: and unfortunately the ball went to the other side.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Let me ask you a question. Does it help a
- 13:37Speaker 2: guy like Taekwon Thornton, who's in his third year now
- 13:39Speaker 2: to have new coaches who really you know, mayos obviously,
- 13:43Speaker 2: but they they didn't experience the last two years for me,
- 13:46Speaker 2: and so this is kind of like a fresh start
- 13:50Speaker 2: for him with these coaches, I can't hurt.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I think schematically too, it helps because this offense
- 13:56Speaker 3: was is really an offense that's gonna give him a
- 13:59Speaker 3: lot of chances to win foot races coming across the field.
- 14:02Speaker 3: On those you know, play action plays, they always have
- 14:05Speaker 3: some sort of post or deep over or clear out
- 14:07Speaker 3: route that if you get vertical on it and the
- 14:10Speaker 3: safety jumps the underneath route. Now you're one on one
- 14:13Speaker 3: with a ton of space, a ton of green grass.
- 14:15Speaker 3: You're four to eight in a lot of space. You know,
- 14:17Speaker 3: you might be able to wiggle free every once in
- 14:19Speaker 3: a while and not to consistently crap on the last quarterback.
- 14:24Speaker 3: But you have quarterbacks now too that can throw the
- 14:27Speaker 3: ball down the field. And now some of those deep
- 14:30Speaker 3: throws that maybe he wasn't getting targeted on but he
- 14:32Speaker 3: had a step or half a step of separation, Now
- 14:35Speaker 3: that you have guys that can actually get the ball
- 14:37Speaker 3: and want to push the ball down the field, not
- 14:39Speaker 3: just can, but want to, and that's a part of
- 14:41Speaker 3: their game. So he's been good. But I can't sell
- 14:45Speaker 3: myself on it, like because I have to see it happen.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Because you've seen the last two years.
- 14:49Speaker 4: I already chastised myself. Yeah, I'm not gonna.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Be able to say, no, fair enough, But that's kind
- 14:55Speaker 2: of my point. It's just so rare his history.
- 14:58Speaker 3: It's so rare that position in particular, that all of
- 15:01Speaker 3: a sudden, the light bulb goes on in the third year, especially.
- 15:05Speaker 4: In like now, like that it happened before. Like I
- 15:09Speaker 4: always throw Eric Molds out there, Eric Molds is an
- 15:12Speaker 4: example of that. It was like two years of kind
- 15:14Speaker 4: of nothing and all of a sudden he turned out
- 15:16Speaker 4: to be a really good player for Buffalo. But I
- 15:18Speaker 4: think in this era that's got to be even more rare.
- 15:22Speaker 5: Well, I think it's kind of a unique first two
- 15:24Speaker 5: years too, considering the coaching staff. He was playing under Es,
- 15:27Speaker 5: certainly his rookie year, and he got heard.
- 15:30Speaker 4: So I will I will just say, like, I feel
- 15:33Speaker 4: like he had two pretty good training camps before this,
- 15:38Speaker 4: so it doesn't really mean anything until you see it
- 15:42Speaker 4: for real. I think he had a promising start and
- 15:45Speaker 4: then he got the collarbone injury in the preseason game.
- 15:48Speaker 4: And then I thought he was playing pretty well. You
- 15:50Speaker 4: guys told me in Green Bay he was making some
- 15:54Speaker 4: plays and that's when.
- 15:55Speaker 5: He got hurt.
- 15:55Speaker 4: He literally got hurt catching catching a deep ball. Yeah,
- 15:59Speaker 4: so it's not like we have seen flashes in camp
- 16:01Speaker 4: go Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Yeah, he does seem a little stronger. I feel like
- 16:05Speaker 3: the contact doesn't bother him quite as much. Like at
- 16:08Speaker 3: the catch point when guys are crowding him, it doesn't
- 16:10Speaker 3: seem to knock him off Israel quite as often. But
- 16:14Speaker 3: I don't know if that's the physicality in camp versus
- 16:16Speaker 3: a physicality in a game. It's a different thing. And
- 16:19Speaker 3: he caught a slant in front of Alex Austin today
- 16:22Speaker 3: and Austin tapped him down. But in a real game setting,
- 16:25Speaker 3: you got to get him to the ground, and that's
- 16:26Speaker 3: a whole different animal. And if he doesn't get him
- 16:29Speaker 3: to the ground, then that's one broken tackle and he's
- 16:32Speaker 3: gone to the house. So you see some.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Of those early, right, Yeah he was, I think he was.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, it was you know, some of that physicality
- 16:40Speaker 3: and is running and we could always glide, you know,
- 16:42Speaker 3: he always was a fast glider. But now I do
- 16:45Speaker 3: see a little bit more strength to his game. But again,
- 16:49Speaker 3: it has to happen in a game in the regular season.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Any of you doctors in the house want to give
- 16:53Speaker 2: us an injury update with players.
- 16:56Speaker 5: Well, we saw you know, Marty Map who continues to
- 16:58Speaker 5: just kind of come out halfway through practice and watch
- 17:00Speaker 5: and he looks pretty sad about it. Josh Bledsoe has
- 17:03Speaker 5: been in a red jersey and he actually left his
- 17:05Speaker 5: sea sorry Sean Wade. And then otherwise Andrews was back today.
- 17:09Speaker 5: I think we mentioned that one.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Yeah, they're missing four players out there, obviously bar More
- 17:14Speaker 4: Pepper's ma poo and it was one Johem Bell. Yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 4: we're not didn't practice.
- 17:21Speaker 5: And Wheatley was a new absence the left hack Wheatly today. Yes,
- 17:25Speaker 5: we're wondering if I mean, he's been kind of struggling
- 17:27Speaker 5: to I don't know. I saw a couple of his
- 17:29Speaker 5: one on ones and it looked like he was just
- 17:31Speaker 5: he wasn't able to come.
- 17:32Speaker 4: He can't, Like I watched him do a lap the
- 17:34Speaker 4: other day and like it's obviously much more difficult for
- 17:37Speaker 4: those offensive linemen. It was a struggle for him. Yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 4: and yeah, we didn't see him today and left for
- 17:46Speaker 4: Caen Wallace today.
- 17:48Speaker 2: And can we get an up update on the strike system?
- 17:51Speaker 3: Well, I just quickly on Andrews. He did say it
- 17:54Speaker 3: is press conference after practice that it was personal reasons
- 17:58Speaker 3: that he missed the last couple of practices.
- 18:00Speaker 4: So nothing physical or did I I don't know if
- 18:03Speaker 4: you heard him, like you went into some detail like
- 18:05Speaker 4: his kids sick. Yeah, his young young baby was sick,
- 18:10Speaker 4: and he wanted well only because he wanted to like
- 18:13Speaker 4: show the shout out the nurses, the er nurses, the
- 18:17Speaker 4: ICU nurses at Hasbro where where he is, they've been
- 18:20Speaker 4: wonderful to him and he wanted to give them some credit.
- 18:22Speaker 5: So he still it seemed like he didn't really participate
- 18:25Speaker 5: that much though it still seemed like we had.
- 18:27Speaker 4: He started in the elevens and then he came out
- 18:30Speaker 4: and Leverett went in.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought still seemed like Maffy was consistently snapping
- 18:34Speaker 5: to Maya the second second.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I saw a little bit of that would Jude
- 18:38Speaker 3: onto where he would he would take one rep in
- 18:41Speaker 3: eleven on elevens then immediately off the field.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Are we still looking at Wallace on the left and
- 18:47Speaker 2: Co four.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Well today it was Vederian Lowe on the left, So
- 18:51Speaker 3: we'll see.
- 18:51Speaker 4: You really hurt my feelings. Sometimes you just don't listen.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Mike just said Veerian low like.
- 18:57Speaker 5: While let's just kick down to the second group. I
- 18:59Speaker 5: still tackleed, I believe.
- 19:00Speaker 3: So yeah, is that what you want now, it did
- 19:07Speaker 3: seem like maybe Vederian Low I mean, excuse me, Kayden
- 19:13Speaker 3: Wallace being at left tackle for Drake may might have
- 19:15Speaker 3: helped a little bit, like not to have a line
- 19:17Speaker 3: of all backups that are guys that project his backup.
- 19:20Speaker 4: See, I didn't really even think of that, And that's
- 19:23Speaker 4: the kind of thing that coaches when they bristle at
- 19:28Speaker 4: you just saying, well, you know, it could be a
- 19:32Speaker 4: very logical reason like that, they know the context they wanted,
- 19:36Speaker 4: they wanted to do it like that and make it
- 19:37Speaker 4: maybe a little bit less, you know, obvious that were
- 19:41Speaker 4: just kind of given him a different line. I think
- 19:44Speaker 4: he struggled in elevens on Tuesday, Kayden Wallace, So I
- 19:48Speaker 4: think that is probably more more why. But I think
- 19:52Speaker 4: they're going to continue to mix and match. It's kind
- 19:54Speaker 4: of what Gerard told me back in the summer, in
- 19:57Speaker 4: the early early part of the summer. I think they're
- 20:00Speaker 4: gonna keep on looking for guys, but Kyden Wallace is
- 20:04Speaker 4: probably a guy that's gonna be part of the mix.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, just one more thing on Drake. I don't
- 20:09Speaker 3: know if you talked about the throw that you and
- 20:10Speaker 3: I were begging him to throw it. He got outside
- 20:14Speaker 3: the pocket, he was rolling to his right and Juju
- 20:16Speaker 3: looked like he might have had a step on the corner,
- 20:19Speaker 3: and I thought that that Drake May was gonna throw
- 20:21Speaker 3: one of those off platform bombs, and he pulled it
- 20:24Speaker 3: down and just ran with it instead, and I was like,
- 20:27Speaker 3: you know, in my head, I'm just like throw, like
- 20:29Speaker 3: why didn't you? You know, he throws that in college, like not,
- 20:32Speaker 3: doesn't even think of it and just throws it. And
- 20:36Speaker 3: I made note of it that maybe I don't know,
- 20:38Speaker 3: maybe they're they're trying to get him to to not
- 20:40Speaker 3: do that kind of stuff.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I really love the cross his body, no look past
- 20:44Speaker 2: the kJ Osborne.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Yeah that was a pretty one.
- 20:47Speaker 4: I I didn't like that.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you're gonna get used to those because he's gonna
- 20:51Speaker 3: do that. And then they also ran a couple of
- 20:53Speaker 3: read option plays too with him in the run game,
- 20:55Speaker 3: where I was excited because maybe not in the open field,
- 20:59Speaker 3: but when you get down to the goal line, he
- 21:01Speaker 3: can do that and he can score on his own untouched,
- 21:04Speaker 3: so you're not worried about him getting hit getting hit
- 21:07Speaker 3: at that point. And so it seems like they're they're
- 21:09Speaker 3: starting to put some of those things into Okay.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Well, sounds like a productive practice leading into tomorrow's pads.
- 21:17Speaker 5: Yeah, it was. It was hot.
- 21:18Speaker 4: I think it was a little non padded practice. It
- 21:20Speaker 4: wasn't bad. I would say the ones I lose interest
- 21:23Speaker 4: in ten minutes in.
- 21:24Speaker 5: But I was saying it too that the difference between
- 21:26Speaker 5: practice this year is it felt like you kind of
- 21:28Speaker 5: you'd have a good competitive period that you took a
- 21:30Speaker 5: lot from and then it would be kickoff for a
- 21:32Speaker 5: little bit, and you know, and like you'd always have
- 21:34Speaker 5: those interstitial special teams perers that broke it up, and
- 21:36Speaker 5: now it's like sevens, elevens, eleven's in the middle, eleven's
- 21:40Speaker 5: low reds. I mean there was a lot of special
- 21:41Speaker 5: teams today though, Yeah, but I don't know there was more.
- 21:45Speaker 5: But I don't know. I just feel like it's not
- 21:46Speaker 5: as it's not as it's more grouped together.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Well, I noticed they were voting at times one field
- 21:53Speaker 2: to special teams, and they would still do whatever they
- 21:56Speaker 2: had to do in the other field. It wasn't like,
- 21:59Speaker 2: you know, the whole practice stopped and Okay, now we're
- 22:02Speaker 2: doing special teams.
- 22:03Speaker 4: A couple of things on their kickoff and they worked
- 22:07Speaker 4: on it. Again, nothing really out of the ordinary. They
- 22:09Speaker 4: were traditionally kicking the ball. I think the League, I
- 22:12Speaker 4: think put it in, like we've we've seen them sort
- 22:16Speaker 4: of experiment with ball placement on the tee, you know,
- 22:20Speaker 4: side what you can't do that. Evidently the League has
- 22:22Speaker 4: put something in. It needs to be a certain height
- 22:25Speaker 4: if you're gonna you know, depending on how you situate
- 22:29Speaker 4: the ball. So some of that stuff is so you
- 22:31Speaker 4: think people.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Were thinking, oh, put a different way, lower trajectory or
- 22:36Speaker 2: something like that.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Something you know, hit the ball there faster. So the
- 22:39Speaker 4: league is sort of stepped in on that. And then
- 22:43Speaker 4: Florio talked about it yesterday like just I don't think
- 22:46Speaker 4: people remember when it first came out, all of the
- 22:50Speaker 4: different restrictions on on side kicks. Yeah, you basically can't
- 22:55Speaker 4: onside kick anymore, right, You can onside kick ever if
- 22:58Speaker 4: you're leading, you can't on side kick ever in the
- 23:01Speaker 4: first three quarters of the game, and you have to
- 23:03Speaker 4: tell people that you're onside kicking.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Yeah, so there's no more surprise on side kick.
- 23:09Speaker 2: That doesn't seem right, no.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's dynamic, a waste of time.
- 23:16Speaker 2: That's what they're calling it. They're actually calling it the
- 23:18Speaker 2: dynamic kickoff.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Rule or whatever, which is so silly. So tonight I
- 23:23Speaker 4: heard you with a voice of reason yesterday. It's the
- 23:25Speaker 4: word in the street. It's the word in the street,
- 23:28Speaker 4: I am.
- 23:29Speaker 2: But tonight is the Hall of Fame game. So, who's
- 23:34Speaker 2: playing Chicago and Houston? Chicago and Houston.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Williams the threes for Chicago and Houston. According to So,
- 23:44Speaker 3: I taught him like a series.
- 23:46Speaker 2: I talked to somebody upstairs who I won't name. I said,
- 23:48Speaker 2: you know you're gonna watch it? Oh, yeah, I always watch.
- 23:52Speaker 4: I'm like's really into this?
- 23:54Speaker 2: Ask your question of all the years that you've watched,
- 23:57Speaker 2: if you hadn't seen any of those games, what would
- 23:59Speaker 2: you have missed?
- 24:01Speaker 4: You couldn't answer, like, I haven't watched that game since
- 24:04Speaker 4: two thousand.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to know why we're in it.
- 24:07Speaker 4: That's two thousand, right, Tom Brady's first ever game.
- 24:10Speaker 5: It's got to be a couple of years though, Patriots
- 24:12Speaker 5: are going to be there, right, Brady's got to.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Be close, Right, it's twenty twenty four. It's been twenty
- 24:18Speaker 4: four years.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Well, I would think once when it's Brady's er.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Yeah, when when he's going in usually they have a
- 24:24Speaker 2: team in that. So who was it again? I'm sorry
- 24:27Speaker 2: tonight it's Technicgo and Chicago. Either of those teams have
- 24:31Speaker 2: a player Andre Johnson.
- 24:33Speaker 3: I believe Andre Johnson's in this class, right.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Or is that last? Hester? Is it Hester?
- 24:38Speaker 2: No?
- 24:38Speaker 3: Hester?
- 24:38Speaker 4: I think I'll look it up, but I do try
- 24:42Speaker 4: to do that, Yeah, you know, kind of sync it
- 24:44Speaker 4: up with the class.
- 24:46Speaker 5: I got something else. How about Bill Belichick go and
- 24:48Speaker 5: work for Underdog Fantasy.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's interesting. You know, I did a little research
- 24:54Speaker 2: on Underdog Fantasy and who is behind it. You know
- 24:57Speaker 2: it started with investors, but Kevin Durant, Jared Goff and
- 25:02Speaker 2: Adam Schefter himself who broke the news. Our investors in
- 25:06Speaker 2: that company.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Deucey r Correct, Devin Hester, Andre Johnson.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so that makes sense, Yeah, that those two teams
- 25:13Speaker 2: would be in it, and it'll make.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Sense Julius Peppers, who played had a couple of years
- 25:19Speaker 3: with Chicago.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but going back to that, it looks intriguing. It's
- 25:24Speaker 2: gonna be a lot of X and o's with Bill.
- 25:26Speaker 2: I think people like Evan will be glued to it.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I do wonder though, you know, it's gonna be on YouTube,
- 25:32Speaker 2: by the way, that's how you watch it. I do
- 25:35Speaker 2: wonder if it's going to have that mass audience that
- 25:38Speaker 2: I don't think it. You know, you might have people
- 25:40Speaker 2: tuning in at first, but to me, that stuff gets
- 25:43Speaker 2: boring after a while. I think most fans just want
- 25:46Speaker 2: to watch the games and keep it entertainment rather than homework.
- 25:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I think the problem that I guess is not a
- 25:53Speaker 3: problem necessarily, but the good clips are going to make
- 25:57Speaker 3: it onto Twitter or X or whatever you want to
- 25:59Speaker 3: call it. So like, is there any reason to sit
- 26:01Speaker 3: down and watch thirty minutes of this when the five
- 26:05Speaker 3: minutes of things that are actually interesting that he says
- 26:07Speaker 3: are going to be clipped out and put on X
- 26:09Speaker 3: and then that doesn't generate clicks for their site, you know.
- 26:13Speaker 3: So that's the I probably wouldn't actually sit down and
- 26:16Speaker 3: watch all thirty minutes of.
- 26:18Speaker 2: It, but it's interesting, he said. You know, I really
- 26:21Speaker 2: wanted to work with Underdog because it's a company that's
- 26:24Speaker 2: run by sports people. And I heard one of your
- 26:29Speaker 2: one of your people in this morning say that's a
- 26:32Speaker 2: shot at the Patriots. You know, it's being run by
- 26:35Speaker 2: sports people.
- 26:35Speaker 4: It's not No, it's not. It's a shot at non
- 26:37Speaker 4: sports people because no one knows it. It's like the
- 26:40Speaker 4: geniuses at the league. Yeah, it's one of those. It's
- 26:42Speaker 4: not a shot.
- 26:43Speaker 2: And also I think it's a shot at maybe some
- 26:44Speaker 2: of the job offers that he's had from companies that
- 26:48Speaker 2: weren't you know, he wants the suit set these networks.
- 26:51Speaker 4: He doesn't want to do like these cute, little crippy
- 26:55Speaker 4: you know, twelve second bites in between everybody else talking.
- 26:58Speaker 4: He wants to break down film and talk ball. Right,
- 27:01Speaker 4: that's what he wants.
- 27:02Speaker 5: Right does he though that's what I can't do.
- 27:04Speaker 4: That's what he wants. Doesn't want to come out he's
- 27:07Speaker 4: doing a NFL film. Oh I'm not trying. I mean,
- 27:09Speaker 4: he would have been the coach they offered him the job.
- 27:11Speaker 5: No is this Like I just feel like this is
- 27:13Speaker 5: him holding his nose and being like, no, this.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Is what it is. But this is what he's interested in.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Is this is what I'm trying to do.
- 27:21Speaker 3: We're exactly the same.
- 27:23Speaker 5: I'm just having trouble imagining him being excited about this. Like,
- 27:26Speaker 5: I just think in his heart of hearts, he wants
- 27:28Speaker 5: to coach a team and he wants to do that,
- 27:30Speaker 5: and he doesn't that he would rather be a coach
- 27:32Speaker 5: playing with Fantasy sports.
- 27:33Speaker 4: But in other words, instead of being like one of
- 27:36Speaker 4: the seven guys on ESPN's pregame show on Sunday or
- 27:40Speaker 4: pick the Net, Fox or CBS, he'd rather be breaking
- 27:44Speaker 4: down film of a game for NFL film.
- 27:46Speaker 2: He doesn't want to be getting into little debates with
- 27:48Speaker 2: Terry Bradshaw.
- 27:49Speaker 5: You no, and now but now it's like it's a
- 27:51Speaker 5: fantasy sports company too though, so like I gotta imagine
- 27:54Speaker 5: he has no respect for fantasy general. I mean, I
- 27:56Speaker 5: understand why the company did it. It's a great get
- 27:57Speaker 5: for them. They probably phoneyed up as much as they
- 28:00Speaker 5: could possibly grab to make this their thing. But just
- 28:03Speaker 5: watching him do it, and you know, it's like, welcome
- 28:06Speaker 5: to our side, buddy, Like you know, it's like you
- 28:08Speaker 5: did nothing but like tool on what we do and
- 28:11Speaker 5: then you know, all come around.
- 28:15Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 28:15Speaker 3: I just wonder one doesn't make him more likable. It
- 28:20Speaker 3: can he put out a persona that improves his likability,
- 28:24Speaker 3: which I think was an issue for this past coaching
- 28:28Speaker 3: cycle was just his personality and people know him from
- 28:32Speaker 3: his press conferences and not necessarily the stuff that he
- 28:34Speaker 3: would give the players and the team behind closed doors.
- 28:37Speaker 3: And does you know he did do some stuff for
- 28:40Speaker 3: the draft right with ESPN and he came off pretty
- 28:43Speaker 3: well in those things, so likability. And then the other
- 28:46Speaker 3: thing is is like these film breakdowns coaching chops, like
- 28:50Speaker 3: does he show off in the And he probably will
- 28:53Speaker 3: a little bit, but.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I don't think he needs that. But it's a good
- 28:57Speaker 2: point because I heard people this morning say, oh, this
- 28:59Speaker 2: is he's never coaching again. He's got three media gigs
- 29:03Speaker 2: right now, he's never touched again.
- 29:04Speaker 4: I think it's closer five.
- 29:06Speaker 2: It might be. You know, I I don't think that
- 29:08Speaker 2: that says he's never coaching again. He's staying relevant, hurt
- 29:12Speaker 2: the guy that got the Lakers job. No, I think
- 29:14Speaker 2: you want to be in the you want to be
- 29:16Speaker 2: still out there.
- 29:17Speaker 3: I think it's one hundred percent. I think it's exact
- 29:19Speaker 3: opposite of wanting to do this. You got to keep
- 29:22Speaker 3: your name in the news. You got to you got
- 29:24Speaker 3: to keep yourself in the limelight so that next coaching
- 29:27Speaker 3: cycle you're not a forgotten So.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I know this shouldn't be the reason why you hire
- 29:31Speaker 2: a head coach, but part of the reason is what's
- 29:34Speaker 2: the fan reaction going to be, And if like he's
- 29:36Speaker 2: having a great year on media and now he's my
- 29:39Speaker 2: next head coach, fans are excited that exactly.
- 29:42Speaker 5: Maybe it's smart. I guess I would have thought that
- 29:44Speaker 5: he would kind of do a Rabel did maybe and
- 29:46Speaker 5: just disappear behind the scenes on a team and you know,
- 29:49Speaker 5: get a chance to just be out of the spotlight,
- 29:51Speaker 5: not worry about having to deal with press conferences, and
- 29:53Speaker 5: you know, still be in the mix. And I mean,
- 29:54Speaker 5: I don't want to make it sound like I'm complaining
- 29:56Speaker 5: about this, like I will enjoy watching it. It's just
- 29:58Speaker 5: it's just striking when and we've been in the position
- 30:00Speaker 5: that we've been in and all of a sudden, now
- 30:02Speaker 5: he's on our side of the street, and it's like, oh,
- 30:04Speaker 5: I'm working.
- 30:04Speaker 4: With sports inside the NFL. Right, mcava He's got the
- 30:08Speaker 4: McAfee thing, the Manning cast, this thing, right, and I'm
- 30:12Speaker 4: told that there's another one coming for NFL films. I
- 30:16Speaker 4: think he's going to have sort of like an like
- 30:18Speaker 4: an NFL matchup kind of thing. That's what it's just
- 30:20Speaker 4: all film.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I can I can get with that, guys.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Can I just you guys can do that on your
- 30:25Speaker 4: own time.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Will I do think this last last coaching cycle, selling
- 30:30Speaker 3: him to the younger generation, this generation of players, the
- 30:34Speaker 3: likability factor and all that kind of stuff was an
- 30:37Speaker 3: issue for a lot of these teams. That's why a
- 30:39Speaker 3: lot of these teams hired much younger coaches than Bill
- 30:42Speaker 3: Belichick this time around. If he's this different person on
- 30:46Speaker 3: TV that maybe these teams haven't seen in the public eye,
- 30:50Speaker 3: it might help him.
- 30:51Speaker 2: But do you think the sixteen to thirty five year old,
- 30:56Speaker 2: you know, mostly males, are going to want to watch
- 30:59Speaker 2: this kind of stuff? Would they rather play mad and
- 31:01Speaker 2: watch the games and watch highlights?
- 31:02Speaker 3: No, I'm talking but I'm talking about the owners like
- 31:05Speaker 3: I'm talking about the people doing the actual higher for
- 31:08Speaker 3: these teas. Oh yeah, because now you can sell it
- 31:10Speaker 3: as well. You all loved him on McAfee, and you
- 31:13Speaker 3: all loved him with Peyton mass especially if he.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Says something about my team that my own coaches didn't
- 31:19Speaker 2: say right, which very well could happen.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Well, we all know he can turn it on like
- 31:24Speaker 5: he I mean, he can easily be charming and funny
- 31:27Speaker 5: and you know, just completely different than you know what
- 31:30Speaker 5: you traditionally think he is, so you know, buyer beware
- 31:33Speaker 5: because that's he's going to put on the good face
- 31:35Speaker 5: for that. But I think when he coaches the team,
- 31:37Speaker 5: it's it's going to be a lot of what he
- 31:39Speaker 5: established here, going back to that stuff. Not Hey, I'm
- 31:42Speaker 5: a happy, go lucky film guy. Now everybody, well everybody
- 31:44Speaker 5: loves me. You know he's got a clown nose on
- 31:47Speaker 5: and doing jokes and stuff.
- 31:49Speaker 8: You know it's not him.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Well he did put that helmet on.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I think the whole clown nos thing is why he's
- 31:56Speaker 2: not doing stuff like Fox and ESPN because he doesn't
- 31:59Speaker 2: want to be.
- 32:00Speaker 5: Yeah no, in the NFL films. To me, that makes
- 32:02Speaker 5: all the sense in the world. As you guys have
- 32:04Speaker 5: said it all the time, that he jumped through a
- 32:06Speaker 5: hoop of that place anytime. I mean, that's that's I
- 32:08Speaker 5: think the only outlet that he truly you know, respects
- 32:11Speaker 5: and enjoys. Yeah, that's the underdog fantasy now too.
- 32:14Speaker 2: All right. Eight five five Pass five hundred is the
- 32:16Speaker 2: Ace ticket hotline eight five five Pats five hundred. Web
- 32:20Speaker 2: radio at Patriots dot com is the email address. Anything
- 32:23Speaker 2: else you want to talk about NFL news, I mean, uh,
- 32:26Speaker 2: trying to a big contract down in Tampa Bay.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Yes, well I missed that.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Tristan Wars five years. Yeah, he's a fantastic player. Was
- 32:37Speaker 3: five years, what like one over one hundred million, I
- 32:41Speaker 3: don't know, number, like one, yeah, like eighty eight guaranteed.
- 32:45Speaker 4: So he's a guy that a lot of Patriots fans
- 32:47Speaker 4: had sort of pointed to dam as a pending free agent.
- 32:51Speaker 5: Seventh thing, they don't get some free agency anymore.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Those those types of tackles don't. And they they got
- 32:56Speaker 3: the fifth year on him. Penny Sewell signed for four
- 33:00Speaker 3: to try to hit free agency the year earlier in
- 33:02Speaker 3: the next his next cycle, so the Bucks getting in
- 33:05Speaker 3: for that fifth year was considered a win.
- 33:08Speaker 2: We should probably mention some video coming out of Jets camp,
- 33:12Speaker 2: which one with Aaron Rodgers man one of his receivers
- 33:16Speaker 2: getting into it and there were I just love it.
- 33:19Speaker 5: I saw that video too. But me and Paul's Uh,
- 33:23Speaker 5: Me and Paul talked a little bit about the Jets though,
- 33:25Speaker 5: because they had a god day of practice the other day,
- 33:26Speaker 5: had a bad day a couple of days ago. I mean,
- 33:29Speaker 5: I don't want to derail it with your point, but
- 33:30Speaker 5: like I've been watching a lot of the reports from camp,
- 33:32Speaker 5: and it's just a lot of the same stuff. It's like,
- 33:34Speaker 5: you know, one hand, you see, here's Caleb Willone's making
- 33:36Speaker 5: a great throw up, Here's Caleb Williams making a terrible threat,
- 33:39Speaker 5: you know, across the board, all the rookies, JJ McCarthy,
- 33:41Speaker 5: same kind of thing, you know. And then the Jets,
- 33:44Speaker 5: it was I saw they had a terrible day, they
- 33:46Speaker 5: couldn't get anything going. Then they had a good day.
- 33:48Speaker 5: But then you to Fred's point, they're talking Him and
- 33:49Speaker 5: Garrett Wilson just look like kind of at each other
- 33:52Speaker 5: a little bit. But I don't know, competitive guys. I think, hey,
- 33:55Speaker 5: I'm hoping that it doesn't work.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Like we want to make fun of it because you
- 33:59Speaker 2: know it's the Yets, but I just like to rogers,
- 34:02Speaker 2: like to be fair. It's probably a whole lot of nothing.
- 34:04Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I mean, I I gotta imagine he's, uh,
- 34:08Speaker 5: he's gonna be looking Garrett Wilson's way a lot this year.
- 34:10Speaker 5: That's that's a that's a dangerous match. They're gonna that's
- 34:13Speaker 5: gonna be give me about each other's gonna ice them,
- 34:15Speaker 5: I mean, and we all want that to happen. We
- 34:16Speaker 5: all want this year. It's like, no, he stays healthy,
- 34:18Speaker 5: but he just hates Garret Wilson to throw on the ball.
- 34:20Speaker 3: I feel like the more that I we cover training camp,
- 34:23Speaker 3: more I cover training camp, the more I realize that
- 34:25Speaker 3: training camp really is not indicative for the top of
- 34:28Speaker 3: the roster. Like I don't know if you can necessarily
- 34:31Speaker 3: tell a team is going to be great or not
- 34:35Speaker 3: based off of these practices, because the Duce's point, you
- 34:39Speaker 3: read these other practices and it's it's it is, it's
- 34:41Speaker 3: a it's a roller coaster for every single thing.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Even in the heyday of the dynasty here, I think
- 34:46Speaker 2: we had a very mediocre preseason record when it came
- 34:49Speaker 2: to the games.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Oh the games are completely and utterly meaningless. But like
- 34:53Speaker 4: the preseason, like the training camp practices, I think you
- 34:57Speaker 4: can sort of see like and this is this was
- 35:00Speaker 4: the day. Yeah, this is the extreme. It's the extreme.
- 35:03Speaker 4: But like we all talked about seven, like this looks different.
- 35:08Speaker 4: We didn't know what it was gonna you.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Know, most of us undefeated.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Most of us admit, we don't know exactly how different,
- 35:14Speaker 4: but we said this is going to be a much
- 35:16Speaker 4: more explosive offense, like they had a really good offense
- 35:19Speaker 4: and O four oh five, oh six. But when you
- 35:22Speaker 4: watched Oh. Seven's training camp, everybody said the same thing,
- 35:26Speaker 4: like even without moss really because they said, we didn't
- 35:28Speaker 4: get to see a ton of moss. But this just
- 35:30Speaker 4: looked different.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Welker.
- 35:32Speaker 4: You know how fast the ball was kind of on
- 35:34Speaker 4: the spread, and it was just different like when you
- 35:36Speaker 4: could see Brady and they did have good training camps,
- 35:40Speaker 4: like the ball like almost never hit the ground, were
- 35:43Speaker 4: used to so efficient. Yeah, yeah, I.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Mean that might be the pinnacle. I just think for
- 35:47Speaker 3: a lot of these teams that are down to earth,
- 35:50Speaker 3: like not the dynasty Patriots a little different. I always
- 35:53Speaker 3: I keep going back to to the Green Bay joint
- 35:55Speaker 3: practices and just that team looked okay, but I you know,
- 35:59Speaker 3: it didn't look like a team that was going to
- 36:01Speaker 3: make the playoffs and win a playoff game and go
- 36:03Speaker 3: on any sort of run or any differently than the Patriots.
- 36:07Speaker 3: And you know, then you read reports that Brock Purty
- 36:10Speaker 3: threw like three interceptions in practice two days ago and
- 36:13Speaker 3: then yesterday he lit it up, you know, and that's
- 36:15Speaker 3: a super Bowl favorite in forty nine ers that are
- 36:19Speaker 3: going through the same ups.
- 36:20Speaker 4: And down, and you know what I think is the difference.
- 36:22Speaker 4: And I know that I always rail against this. I
- 36:26Speaker 4: don't ever remember anybody ever keeping stats. That's a that's
- 36:31Speaker 4: a new thing back then. Yeah, I don't. I don't
- 36:33Speaker 4: remember that. The just the litany of numbers that come
- 36:37Speaker 4: out of training camp practices. And I'm not telling you
- 36:40Speaker 4: that no one ever did it, because I know every
- 36:41Speaker 4: time I say no one did it, people said, well,
- 36:44Speaker 4: I remember interceptions. No one ever kept track of that.
- 36:49Speaker 4: Someone might have said, oh, Rodney Harrison picked off Tom
- 36:52Speaker 4: Brady today and you know a fight ensued, you know,
- 36:55Speaker 4: because they were so competitive. But I don't remember people
- 36:59Speaker 4: charting every single snap, every single play the way that
- 37:02Speaker 4: we do now. When when I say we, I mean them.
- 37:06Speaker 3: It's just really hard to do because there's so much
- 37:09Speaker 3: context needed for every single play that doesn't exist in
- 37:13Speaker 3: practice like there was. I think it was actually Taekwon
- 37:16Speaker 3: he caught a passing the back of the end zone
- 37:18Speaker 3: in one of the red zone periods. But Persett must have.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Held the ball for five or it was a handful
- 37:24Speaker 4: of plays like that today that would not have been
- 37:26Speaker 4: completed again, right.
- 37:27Speaker 3: And so in the game you figure sack throwaway something
- 37:30Speaker 3: like that. Now, is there a chance that he pulls
- 37:32Speaker 3: a Hootini act and extends the play? That happens short
- 37:35Speaker 3: but in reality, but that if you're just tracking stats.
- 37:39Speaker 2: There's so much to every play. I mean, we talked
- 37:42Speaker 2: about it earlier. Maybe it's not a big deal, but
- 37:45Speaker 2: the fact that oh, Drake may had a better day. Oh,
- 37:48Speaker 2: Caden Wallace was his left tackle on some of those.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Oh maybe that made a difference.
- 37:53Speaker 4: I might don't know. And I think Evans throwing that
- 37:56Speaker 4: out there, I think is purely plausible. They might have
- 38:00Speaker 4: just wanted to give him a little more time to throw.
- 38:03Speaker 2: That's what it looks like with the left NFL.
- 38:07Speaker 4: That's why when they have one well, i mean just
- 38:11Speaker 4: calling it. Kid seven days into his career, competent.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Two patted practices, I'm ready to stamp care.
- 38:17Speaker 5: And that's why I've really enjoyed just the last couple
- 38:19Speaker 5: of days just turning the personnel and you know, the rotation,
- 38:22Speaker 5: just because it gives you a sense of who they
- 38:24Speaker 5: want to see the most of. And if a guy
- 38:25Speaker 5: like Juju was just isn't getting out there, it's hard
- 38:27Speaker 5: to say he's really in the mix for one of
- 38:29Speaker 5: those top five six spots.
- 38:30Speaker 4: Well, he tripped over a rock on Tuesday and he
- 38:32Speaker 4: heard it that.
- 38:34Speaker 5: You had a job today too, didn't he? And then
- 38:37Speaker 5: did Dougar get a pick on that one? We were
- 38:38Speaker 5: I couldn't really see it, Graad.
- 38:40Speaker 4: I do not believe there were any picks now.
- 38:41Speaker 3: I felt like it was out of bounds.
- 38:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Well it's a hot one out there today. And
- 38:45Speaker 2: if you were out there, you know what you wouldn't enjoy.

- 39:28Speaker 2: is the email address. Let's get to some of these emails.
- 39:33Speaker 2: This is Timothy from flag Staff. He says, I just
- 39:36Speaker 2: wanted to chime in and ask why Ben Volan said
- 39:40Speaker 2: Joe Milton is out playing Drake May. I listened to
- 39:43Speaker 2: PU instead of anything else because of the straightforward results
- 39:47Speaker 2: you give, and I think other people saying these things
- 39:50Speaker 2: are just insane. That would be insane.
- 39:54Speaker 3: I will say that Joe Milton has had his moments
- 39:57Speaker 3: in this training camp, especially lately. It's not totally it's
- 40:03Speaker 3: okay to say that Joe Milton has had some good
- 40:06Speaker 3: throws in this camp like that. It's not insane. I
- 40:08Speaker 3: just don't think it's accurate. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah,
- 40:11Speaker 3: that's probably the best way to put it. And I I,
- 40:15Speaker 3: you know, talking to people that watch college football religiously
- 40:18Speaker 3: and cover college football. They keep reminding me that this
- 40:21Speaker 3: is what happens to every single team that sinks their
- 40:25Speaker 3: teeth into Joe Milton, Michigan, Tennessee. Now the Patriots. In practice,
- 40:32Speaker 3: the guy looks like he's got all the tools and
- 40:36Speaker 3: all the ability in the world, and then you get
- 40:38Speaker 3: into the games and he just has never It's never
- 40:41Speaker 3: all come together for him. It's never all clicked. And
- 40:44Speaker 3: a lot of these teams, Michigan mostly Michigan, were duped
- 40:50Speaker 3: by the physical ability.
- 40:53Speaker 2: I don't know, I mean, who knows, but like you know,
- 40:56Speaker 2: I read you were with me Evan and Duce today.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I read out some stats of a quarterback last year
- 41:02Speaker 2: in college and I said, are these good quarterback stats?
- 41:04Speaker 2: And he said yes, And that was Joe Milton and Tennessee. Yeah,
- 41:08Speaker 2: there's no doubt about it. Now, the year before it.
- 41:10Speaker 5: Was the record.
- 41:11Speaker 2: No, there's his quarterback stats.
- 41:13Speaker 4: But what was the record?
- 41:13Speaker 2: I don't we didn't get into that poll.
- 41:15Speaker 4: But that's that's a big part of my stats.
- 41:17Speaker 2: But he had twenty interception five, I mean twenty touchdowns,
- 41:20Speaker 2: five interceptions. He had close to like six sixty percentage.
- 41:25Speaker 2: You had almost three thousand yards passing.
- 41:27Speaker 4: In almost three thousand yards, just like twenty eight hundred yard.
- 41:30Speaker 4: It sounds pretty pedestrian. Twenty touchdowns and twenty eight hundred yards. Yeah,
- 41:34Speaker 4: and like nowadays, they throw the ball every play.
- 41:37Speaker 2: I don't know what.
- 41:37Speaker 4: I don't know what kind of offense they run.
- 41:39Speaker 2: I do, yeah, But anyway, they weren't bad stats.
- 41:41Speaker 4: They want to spread.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Yeah, they run area, but they he he has all
- 41:47Speaker 3: the ability. That's no one's ever questioned his ability. And
- 41:51Speaker 3: in a training camp, practice setting, he's going to make
- 41:55Speaker 3: some throws that are going to make you go wow.
- 41:57Speaker 3: That's really that's his physical yeah.
- 42:00Speaker 4: Gift he is, I mean, and that is as advertised. Man,
- 42:03Speaker 4: he's impressive.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 42:05Speaker 4: The way he throws the ball is different than everybody else.
- 42:08Speaker 2: It's like Bethel Johnson, whoa, he's fast, but fast just
- 42:12Speaker 2: an okay player.
- 42:13Speaker 3: Yeah. His Everybody makes a big deal with Milton about
- 42:17Speaker 3: the orange, you know, him throwing the orange hundred yards
- 42:19Speaker 3: and how far he can throw the ball. His drive
- 42:22Speaker 3: throws are way more impressive to me than the deep ball.
- 42:25Speaker 3: We haven't seen the deep ball a time, but just
- 42:27Speaker 3: his ability to throw like an incut on a rope
- 42:31Speaker 3: in between a couple of zone defenders, like twelve thirteen
- 42:34Speaker 3: yards down the field. It shrinks the field like his
- 42:38Speaker 3: His incut is not the same incut as Bailey's Appi's incut,
- 42:41Speaker 3: and it's it's incredible to watch it. It's probably the
- 42:45Speaker 3: livest arm I've ever seen.
- 42:46Speaker 4: I said a couple of times, and people with Gaga
- 42:48Speaker 4: over that sixty five yard pass, and I think that's
- 42:51Speaker 4: every quarterback in football could do that what he did,
- 42:55Speaker 4: but not everybody could get it there as fast as
- 42:57Speaker 4: he got it there, right, Like, that's with a separation comes.
- 43:00Speaker 4: It's a stronger arm maybe than is in the league
- 43:04Speaker 4: right now. I don't know if there is any any guys,
- 43:07Speaker 4: you know, especially like Stafford's one of those guys that
- 43:09Speaker 4: has a ridiculous arm. But at his age, he probably
- 43:12Speaker 4: doesn't throw it like that anymore. Maybe Mahomes still can.
- 43:15Speaker 4: I don't know, but it just looks different coming off
- 43:18Speaker 4: his hands.
- 43:19Speaker 2: I mean, Rogers has a strong arm too. Well.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Rogers's arm is ridiculous.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Yeah, he's amazing, let's see. Colleen writes in I feel
- 43:28Speaker 2: like a big reason Joe Milton might be performing slightly
- 43:31Speaker 2: better so far is he's bound to be more loose.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Drake has the expectations of being the savior of a
- 43:39Speaker 2: storied franchise on his shoulders, and Milton's outside expectations are
- 43:44Speaker 2: to be a backup. It reminds me of when the
- 43:46Speaker 2: Celtics would play not to lose against bad teams, and
- 43:52Speaker 2: the bad teams would end up winning because they had
- 43:55Speaker 2: nothing to lose. By going all out.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think there's something to the perception of how
- 44:01Speaker 4: like I think when May, I mean, when Milton makes
- 44:04Speaker 4: one of those throws that Evan's talking about, like he
- 44:06Speaker 4: fits one between two defenders, and everybody's like, wow, did
- 44:09Speaker 4: you see that throw? But then they, you know, they
- 44:12Speaker 4: kind of don't really talk about the three that didn't
- 44:14Speaker 4: look like NFL plays because he's a six round pick
- 44:17Speaker 4: and he's a rookie, and you know, he has these
- 44:19Speaker 4: physical skills and no one really talks about, whereas May
- 44:22Speaker 4: doesn't get that luxury. Every play is immensely analyzed and dissected.
- 44:27Speaker 4: I would also say, I don't think they're asking Milton
- 44:30Speaker 4: to do what they're asking for sett In May to do.
- 44:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm always tiptoe around exactly what you just said,
- 44:35Speaker 3: but I I zone reads. Yeah, I would bring it.
- 44:38Speaker 3: I think there is some truth to that, and certainly
- 44:41Speaker 3: not as much under center work for Joe Milton, whereas
- 44:44Speaker 3: Drake May is really running their base offense on early
- 44:47Speaker 3: downs and being more pro style in nature like Joe
- 44:51Speaker 3: Milton the other day, you know, before the off day
- 44:53Speaker 3: on Tuesday, through an absolute rocket to Juju Smith Schuster
- 44:57Speaker 3: on an RPO and I really haven't seen the Patriots
- 45:00Speaker 3: run those types of plays as much when Drake has
- 45:03Speaker 3: been in there. It's not that Drake can't do it,
- 45:05Speaker 3: but that's just that is what Joe Milton is. And
- 45:08Speaker 3: I do wonder like he's gonna play a ton in
- 45:10Speaker 3: the preseason Milton is. I'm sure we'll see of Drake
- 45:14Speaker 3: May too, but these are the types of plays that
- 45:17Speaker 3: are gonna make Joe Milton look good in preseason games
- 45:20Speaker 3: because it's the type of offense he's used to running.
- 45:22Speaker 3: So I wonder if maybe that's why they're asking him
- 45:24Speaker 3: to do these things, because on Thursday night next week,
- 45:27Speaker 3: you know when he's in there that that's what they're
- 45:29Speaker 3: gonna be, the type of offense they're gonna be running.
- 45:30Speaker 3: It's kind of like Millie Cunningham to an extent, where
- 45:33Speaker 3: Millie Cunningham had all these different types of plays that
- 45:35Speaker 3: they weren't putting in with Mac Jones and Bailey's Abbey.
- 45:38Speaker 5: It's just so hard with the volume. I mean, that
- 45:40Speaker 5: to me is what stands out most. It's like, I mean,
- 45:41Speaker 5: how many more snaps is Milton as May taken in
- 45:45Speaker 5: team periods? It's like four times the amount of snaps
- 45:47Speaker 5: that Milton has, So you're talking about a sample size
- 45:49Speaker 5: and again he's he's had some good throws, but it's
- 45:52Speaker 5: like you're talking about us like ten reps.
- 45:54Speaker 4: You know one of those guys that said, you know, drafting,
- 45:58Speaker 4: you know, multiple quarterbacks is good business. You sort of
- 46:01Speaker 4: you develop and you can never have too much. I
- 46:05Speaker 4: would think that you are very encouraged by the early returns,
- 46:10Speaker 4: Like he looks like physically worth. It was worth the
- 46:14Speaker 4: six round pick and all that stuff, and you know
- 46:17Speaker 4: there might be something there. I just would caution to
- 46:20Speaker 4: if we're going to take it from that too, don't
- 46:24Speaker 4: be surprised if he ends up winning a starting job. Yeah,
- 46:28Speaker 4: Like I think there's an enormous gap between those two mindsets.
- 46:32Speaker 3: Yeah, we're definitely developing him, asking him to switch positions
- 46:36Speaker 3: and all. Like some of the stuff that they people
- 46:38Speaker 3: talked about pre draft I think is off the table.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Like he should develop as a quarterback. No doubt he's
- 46:43Speaker 3: a he's an NFL backup quarterback, I think, just based
- 46:46Speaker 3: off of what we've seen. But to Paul's point, is
- 46:49Speaker 3: he a starter, Like that's probably pushing it right now,
- 46:51Speaker 3: But does he belong on an NFL roster at this
- 46:53Speaker 3: time of year as a quarterback.
- 46:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I just can't. I have no idea what he is.
- 46:57Speaker 5: Like I need to see him in a game situation
- 46:59Speaker 5: where he can execute plays and get the play and you.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Know, like I have no idea if he plays him
- 47:05Speaker 2: in college, so like heacy, Yeah, and decision making.
- 47:12Speaker 4: It's more the decision making, Okay, that's the stuff in
- 47:14Speaker 4: games like this, like out here, it's it's a little
- 47:16Speaker 4: bit hidden with especially in seven on seven. It's so
- 47:19Speaker 4: like there was like there was one play that so
- 47:21Speaker 4: this This guy sent me a bunch of stuff. He's
- 47:23Speaker 4: obviously a huge Tennessee fan, and he heard our original
- 47:26Speaker 4: argument about this, and he was like, I, you know,
- 47:28Speaker 4: you was so right, blah blah blah. He showed me
- 47:31Speaker 4: a clip. It was three seconds left in the game,
- 47:35Speaker 4: from like the twenty three yard line and they were
- 47:38Speaker 4: down four and he sort of got flushed out of
- 47:41Speaker 4: the pocket. He's trying to buy time. He's running to
- 47:43Speaker 4: the sideline and he's you know, running like this that,
- 47:47Speaker 4: and he's then he started running down the sideline like
- 47:51Speaker 4: half speed, like not like clearly like and then he
- 47:54Speaker 4: got to like the fifteen or the twelve and he
- 47:57Speaker 4: just ducked out of bounce like the clock ran out,
- 48:02Speaker 4: like you know, like I can understand like a brain cramp,
- 48:06Speaker 4: like you shouldn't try to run, but like if you
- 48:08Speaker 4: do try to run, I'm going full speed trying to
- 48:12Speaker 4: get in the end zone, you know. Like it was
- 48:14Speaker 4: like he thought of the situational awareness and I and
- 48:19Speaker 4: game And this guy said, now again, this is where
- 48:24Speaker 4: we don't all watch every play, every drive of Tennessee Volunteers.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Football their offense.
- 48:30Speaker 4: This guy was telling me that was sort of indicative
- 48:33Speaker 4: of the way he played, like no feel for the game.
- 48:37Speaker 4: Decisions were would would you know, lacking all the time. Now,
- 48:40Speaker 4: maybe this guy just didn't like Joe Milton, you know
- 48:42Speaker 4: who knows.
- 48:43Speaker 3: But that those are the to your point, like those
- 48:46Speaker 3: are the people that watch Tennessee like we I always
- 48:49Speaker 3: used to argue with the North Carolina football fans about
- 48:52Speaker 3: Drake May like those people watch it for them to
- 48:54Speaker 3: win the football game, whereas like when scouts watch these guys,
- 48:58Speaker 3: they're they're looking for the traits, like, yes, it would
- 49:01Speaker 3: be great they draft a quarterback that has the trades
- 49:03Speaker 3: and won in college, But the most important thing is
- 49:06Speaker 3: the traits, so like, from a scouting perspective, Joe Milton
- 49:09Speaker 3: makes a lot of sense to take him, you know,
- 49:11Speaker 3: as a draft pick. But to the Tennessee fans, it's like,
- 49:14Speaker 3: you know, we had this game, and we had that game.
- 49:16Speaker 3: We had this game where we had chances to win
- 49:18Speaker 3: and he just couldn't get us over the top, or
- 49:21Speaker 3: he made a mistake like that or whatever. And that's
- 49:24Speaker 3: what you hear from the people that actually that watch it,
- 49:26Speaker 3: Like we watched the.
- 49:26Speaker 4: Patriots consistency, Like he would come out and have a
- 49:29Speaker 4: great drive and then maybe the next drive he'd look
- 49:33Speaker 4: like he's never really been the starting quarterback before, you know,
- 49:36Speaker 4: and it just kind of went in and out of games, cause,
- 49:38Speaker 4: I let's face it, the secs on all the time,
- 49:42Speaker 4: you know, it was like that that three thirty CBS
- 49:44Speaker 4: game all the time, see with SEC games, and you'd
- 49:47Speaker 4: see him and you'd be like, this guy is unbelievable.
- 49:50Speaker 4: And then you'd look up and it'd be like they'd
- 49:52Speaker 4: have ten points in the fourth quarter and you're like,
- 49:54Speaker 4: what happened? Like it looks so good at the beginning.
- 49:57Speaker 5: Kind of connected to this, do you think we've seen less? Uh,
- 50:00Speaker 5: situational like down in distance kind of like I don't
- 50:04Speaker 5: really remember a lot of like string try to string
- 50:06Speaker 5: and drive together st to you know, two minute stuff
- 50:08Speaker 5: like it's all been very like we're middle of the
- 50:10Speaker 5: field and play play play.
- 50:11Speaker 2: It's not.
- 50:12Speaker 4: It's some down in distance, but not the way that
- 50:15Speaker 4: Bill used to do.
- 50:15Speaker 5: It, where it was yeah, like there was just throwing
- 50:18Speaker 5: situations at you or trying to string drives together.
- 50:20Speaker 4: And that's because the sticks have been out there and
- 50:23Speaker 4: they've had like whatever on the clock. They really haven't
- 50:27Speaker 4: done too many And that's where I.
- 50:28Speaker 5: Think you need to see Milton to really believe that
- 50:30Speaker 5: he's going to make any kind of a push, Like
- 50:32Speaker 5: I mean, first of all, you need to see him
- 50:34Speaker 5: get more than just one set of mop up wraps
- 50:36Speaker 5: every practice, like until he starts to actually look like
- 50:40Speaker 5: he's involved in even the conversation. Because every practice we've
- 50:43Speaker 5: seen so far as wins, it's so clear that they
- 50:46Speaker 5: are looking at Jacoby Brissett and Drake may As getting
- 50:49Speaker 5: the top reps and and really drilling those guys and
- 50:52Speaker 5: all right, your turns out be like there's just no
- 50:54Speaker 5: indication at all from the I know.
- 50:55Speaker 4: A word that would describe my surprise if Joe Milton
- 50:59Speaker 4: was the weak one starter. Oh, I don't know if
- 51:01Speaker 4: there's a word that would describe that. I mean, based
- 51:03Speaker 4: on what I've seen.
- 51:04Speaker 5: Through times running out.
- 51:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I wonder how much the impact that these
- 51:12Speaker 3: West Coast coaches, like West Coast Offense, like, not that
- 51:15Speaker 3: they're from California, like West Coast offense coaches have on
- 51:18Speaker 3: the script of practice, because those guys just like to
- 51:21Speaker 3: run plays like they don't really they're just looking to
- 51:24Speaker 3: run the perfect play and it's play and then it's
- 51:28Speaker 3: re huddle, what did you do wrong?
- 51:29Speaker 4: What did you do right?
- 51:30Speaker 3: Play like? And they're they're not necessarily looking at it
- 51:34Speaker 3: like Bill used to structure practice like it was a game.
- 51:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't care for this style. I don't think
- 51:40Speaker 4: they've got enough plays.
- 51:41Speaker 3: In Yeah, these coaches are are big on how it's
- 51:45Speaker 3: drawn up on the whiteboard. We want to get as
- 51:48Speaker 3: close to that as we possibly can in practice, and
- 51:51Speaker 3: we're just going to keep drilling it almost like it
- 51:53Speaker 3: doesn't matter where on the field they are, you know,
- 51:56Speaker 3: like it really the field position aspect of it does
- 51:58Speaker 3: doesn't really even matter.
- 52:00Speaker 4: Example of today, very you know, late in the practice
- 52:03Speaker 4: when they were finally wrapping up the team, so they
- 52:06Speaker 4: had they had Brissett go out run one play and
- 52:10Speaker 4: then they huddled. You know, they rushed to the line
- 52:13Speaker 4: and they clearly were designed they wanted to see if
- 52:16Speaker 4: they could get the defense. You know, maybe it was
- 52:18Speaker 4: a third and short and they're deciding whether or not,
- 52:21Speaker 4: you know, we're going to go for it a fourth down.
- 52:23Speaker 4: We're going to try to draw the defense outside and
- 52:25Speaker 4: if we don't, well we'll just take the penalty of
- 52:27Speaker 4: call time out. Right. Then they did the same thing
- 52:30Speaker 4: with may He ran one play, did the same thing,
- 52:33Speaker 4: trying to draw the defense offside. Like I don't think
- 52:36Speaker 4: they've run enough plays to get to that kind of
- 52:38Speaker 4: situational stuff yet, you know what I mean. And I'm
- 52:41Speaker 4: not saying like you shouldn't work on that. You absolutely
- 52:43Speaker 4: need to work on that. Build it all the time.
- 52:46Speaker 4: But it was, you know, in the span of I
- 52:49Speaker 4: felt like the team periods were like ten plays, not
- 52:53Speaker 4: like four or five plays like they were. So like people,
- 52:57Speaker 4: there's been a lot made of there's more competitive periods
- 52:59Speaker 4: in these practice. I don't think there's any difference, And.
- 53:03Speaker 5: Those practices speak more to me and just than my
- 53:05Speaker 5: like limited football playing, like that's what football is. It's
- 53:08Speaker 5: just like you don't really have a sense settle down
- 53:11Speaker 5: now we're all gonna make the play. Like it's like
- 53:13Speaker 5: oh god, you know, all right, what back back or
- 53:15Speaker 5: what are you doing? You know, like it's that like
- 53:16Speaker 5: getting the information, knowing the situation, how much times left,
- 53:19Speaker 5: where the ball is, what you know?
- 53:20Speaker 4: All that there yet.
- 53:23Speaker 3: Yeah, you definitely hear a lot about these practices though,
- 53:26Speaker 3: and that they're kind of a slog you know, like
- 53:29Speaker 3: a old Mike McCarthy. Green Bay practice is just yeah,
- 53:33Speaker 3: it just that's how they run. Practice is a little
- 53:36Speaker 3: bit different. And their offense is so predicated on window
- 53:40Speaker 3: dressing and everything looking the same on early downs, like
- 53:43Speaker 3: your run plays should marry up to your play actions
- 53:46Speaker 3: and the defense shouldn't be able to tell the difference
- 53:48Speaker 3: in the first couple of steps of the play. And
- 53:50Speaker 3: that takes a lot of repetition. It's all muscle memory
- 53:53Speaker 3: and all that kind of stuff. And the way that
- 53:55Speaker 3: they do that is is the way we've seen practice.
- 53:59Speaker 2: Let's see Wand from Monterey does not like the Godshaw contract.
- 54:05Speaker 2: He says he doesn't impact the passing game. Plus he's
- 54:09Speaker 2: on the older side. I believe that a third or
- 54:11Speaker 2: fourth round pick could do eighty percent of the job
- 54:14Speaker 2: that he does stopping the run.
- 54:17Speaker 3: So I feel like I hear what he's saying. But
- 54:19Speaker 3: I also think that in recent years that mindset has
- 54:23Speaker 3: gotten them into trouble because they've drafted guys thinking we'll
- 54:27Speaker 3: just get eighty percent of this player with our third
- 54:30Speaker 3: round pick, and it's Marte Mapu and he can't get
- 54:33Speaker 3: on the field, and you know that it doesn't work out.
- 54:36Speaker 3: So you can sit here and say, yeah, they could
- 54:38Speaker 3: have drafted a defensive tackle in the draft and replaced
- 54:41Speaker 3: Devon Godshaw that way, But what if he's not as
- 54:43Speaker 3: good as von Godshaw and there was a string there
- 54:46Speaker 3: where Bill was on fire? It was hit you know,
- 54:49Speaker 3: he he would trade Richard Seymour or whatever, Chandler Jones,
- 54:55Speaker 3: and he would just draft somebody and get seventy five
- 54:58Speaker 3: percent of the player. But then when when you stop
- 55:00Speaker 3: doing that, all of a sudden, the talent on the
- 55:02Speaker 3: roster just starts to fade away.
- 55:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say that you had decisions to I
- 55:07Speaker 4: don't think they had anybody. I mean, I'm not a
- 55:09Speaker 4: huge godscha guy you know, and people know that. Although
- 55:13Speaker 4: I do like the way he's kind of handled his
- 55:15Speaker 4: situation as comparative comparatively to Judon, they don't really have
- 55:21Speaker 4: a guy that's a run stuffer right now that I
- 55:23Speaker 4: would say like, oh, well, that's that's the guy like
- 55:25Speaker 4: maybe Watts like did that in Pittsburgh. I don't know
- 55:28Speaker 4: enough about him to know. You know, they let Lawrence
- 55:31Speaker 4: guy go, so I don't think Sam Roberts is that
- 55:34Speaker 4: kind of guy. I don't think they have like a
- 55:36Speaker 4: younger guy.
- 55:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 55:38Speaker 4: Those guys I don't think are going to give you
- 55:40Speaker 4: seventy five percent of Godshaw. I also don't think it's
- 55:43Speaker 4: it's it's it's a really big contract. I think they
- 55:46Speaker 4: gave him a little bit to wet his beak. I
- 55:48Speaker 4: don't think the same kind of percentage wise, I don't
- 55:51Speaker 4: think the same would would satisfy Judon.
- 55:54Speaker 2: He got like sixteen million guaranteed.
- 55:56Speaker 4: Right, but it's also it's a little more this year,
- 56:01Speaker 4: and then the rest of the guaranteed next year, like
- 56:04Speaker 4: the second year or the extension is probably not going
- 56:08Speaker 4: to come to fruition. It's not guaranteed. So he's got
- 56:12Speaker 4: a little guaranteed money for this year and next he
- 56:15Speaker 4: was gonna make seven and a half. I think it's
- 56:17Speaker 4: probably going to be closer to like ten, and then
- 56:20Speaker 4: he gets the rest next year and then that's gonna
- 56:22Speaker 4: be it. Yeah, and I don't really think they have
- 56:24Speaker 4: a guy that stops the run like he does. It's good.
- 56:26Speaker 5: I think you put it really well, Paul. It's like
- 56:28Speaker 5: they didn't rely have a choice. Like it's just, you know,
- 56:29Speaker 5: there's nobody really out there the drop off, especially with
- 56:31Speaker 5: bar Moore Barbore being tested, you know, like that helped him.
- 56:35Speaker 4: And kind of backed him into a corner. And now
- 56:37Speaker 4: what are you gonna do?
- 56:37Speaker 5: You know, I mean teacher wise Is is a solid player,
- 56:40Speaker 5: but you know, you think you can run at him. Yeah,
- 56:43Speaker 5: we usually could, and that's kind of been his thing.
- 56:46Speaker 5: So especially with that guy, I just think they had to.
- 56:48Speaker 5: I think you've described it perfectly. It's it's not a
- 56:50Speaker 5: big deal. I think he's a good player in the
- 56:52Speaker 5: middle of me. He plays sixty percent of the snaps.
- 56:54Speaker 5: He's been really healthy. I don't think he's missed a
- 56:56Speaker 5: single game since he's been here. So, you know, though,
- 56:58Speaker 5: you take those things into consideration, and he's gonna do
- 57:00Speaker 5: what he does. It's an important piece, but you know,
- 57:03Speaker 5: I think I just don't think they really had a choice.
- 57:05Speaker 2: Bai five to five past five hundred is the ACE
- 57:07Speaker 2: ticket hotline. Web radio at page dot com is then
- 57:09Speaker 2: email address. Let's hit the phones. Patty's an agalam. What's up?
- 57:13Speaker 8: Patty?
- 57:15Speaker 6: What's OK?
- 57:16Speaker 8: Hey?
- 57:16Speaker 2: You hear me better? Yeah? We can hear you, all right.
- 57:20Speaker 6: I just got a question for Freddie and a question
- 57:22Speaker 6: for Paul or for the more esteemed gentleman on the show, Freddy,
- 57:26Speaker 6: who's taken over for the pregame and postgame duties this year.
- 57:30Speaker 2: Oh, we got a special surprise for everybody. People are
- 57:33Speaker 2: gonna love it. We'll, we'll, We'll keep it under wraps
- 57:36Speaker 2: until Thursday. So for what pregame postgame question earlier?
- 57:45Speaker 6: Since it is still technically the off season, I just
- 57:49Speaker 6: wanted to get your guys opinion on what your favorite
- 57:52Speaker 6: eighties song was like, like a typical eighties eighties I
- 57:57Speaker 6: don't mind mine. I Oh, I think you would like
- 58:01Speaker 6: my picture because it has Philip Bailey, but Philip Bailey and.
- 58:04Speaker 4: Phil Collins Lover, Easy, Lover, good song.
- 58:09Speaker 6: Just to shout out to Travis in West Virginia. Keeps
- 58:11Speaker 6: the singers coming. Buddy, I love him.
- 58:13Speaker 2: That's all I got got, all right, thanks Patty.
- 58:15Speaker 4: Favorite eighties song is tough, Yeah, I get tough for me.
- 58:18Speaker 2: I don't know like which decade different songs are. I
- 58:21Speaker 2: know songs that I like, but I can tell them, Oh,
- 58:23Speaker 2: that's a seventies or an eighties song. I get confused.
- 58:26Speaker 3: Heart's on Fire, rocky Floor.
- 58:27Speaker 5: That's right to the soundtrack for that hour.
- 58:30Speaker 4: I just knew it's from the eighties because he had
- 58:32Speaker 4: that's already.
- 58:33Speaker 3: I think that's eighties or.
- 58:36Speaker 4: No idea survivor.
- 58:37Speaker 2: The eighties was a weird decade for music because you
- 58:42Speaker 2: were coming off disco, right yeah, and you got into
- 58:45Speaker 2: a lot of like punk.
- 58:46Speaker 4: Rock grunk, like weird grund chippy stuff like as in
- 58:51Speaker 4: the early nineties was like you know, pearl jam all.
- 58:53Speaker 2: Right, right, So it was kind of a bridge year,
- 58:56Speaker 2: a bridge decade for music if you ask me.
- 59:00Speaker 3: Eighty five Rocky four nailed.
- 59:03Speaker 5: Myself. I mean I had the tiger probably in my
- 59:05Speaker 5: running just because I mean, as a kid do so
- 59:06Speaker 5: that was It's hard not to get psyched when.
- 59:09Speaker 2: That would help to term my volume up.
- 59:10Speaker 4: John Cafferty, John Cafferty was hearts on fire. I feel
- 59:15Speaker 4: like I I would have lost a lot of money.
- 59:17Speaker 5: Actually, I think that's exactly what I was gonna say too.
- 59:19Speaker 4: I think I would have lost a lot of money
- 59:21Speaker 4: on that.
- 59:21Speaker 5: That the here's a good one.
- 59:23Speaker 4: I did like John Caffy who was polosed.
- 59:26Speaker 5: On the Rocky four album. What's the name of the
- 59:28Speaker 5: guy who did like the like while they're boxing that music?
- 59:31Speaker 4: Like all that?
- 59:32Speaker 5: The compositions that Vince da Coola.
- 59:36Speaker 2: I had the tape. I know, how do you?
- 59:39Speaker 4: I had the tape I was waiting for. You know,
- 59:41Speaker 4: we did a project with him.
- 59:42Speaker 7: You know.
- 59:43Speaker 5: I love my student film.
- 59:45Speaker 3: I love the Tiger student film. I would never did Besmidge.
- 59:49Speaker 3: I have the Tiger but ready to fly Now it
- 59:51Speaker 3: might be better?
- 59:52Speaker 5: Oh yeah, no, I had that too on them on
- 59:54Speaker 5: my workout mixing.
- 59:55Speaker 3: It might be better.
- 59:56Speaker 5: Yeah, you should have had my fifth grade middle school
- 59:59Speaker 5: band play hous Let's.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Get back to the phones. Noah's in Toronto. What's up, Noah?
- 1:00:06Speaker 9: I guys, I just had a quick question about the
- 1:00:09Speaker 9: guy shot. Yeah, he's kind, he's uh a PFF.
- 1:00:15Speaker 10: Really doesn't like him.
- 1:00:16Speaker 9: He's like one hundred second playing superior defender last year
- 1:00:20Speaker 9: and contrast.
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: Like we know Belichick really liked him.
- 1:00:24Speaker 9: I was wondering if you guys have any insights on
- 1:00:27Speaker 9: like what's the discrepancy there is there's stuff he's doing
- 1:00:30Speaker 9: like PFF wouldn't be capturing or something than.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: Well I think PFF. You know, you're grading out defensive
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: lineman like in a like in a vacuum of like
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: almost like Madden ratings right where you know pass rush
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: is going to be more important in the fact that
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: he doesn't play a lot in the passing game, it
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: doesn't put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks, is gonna
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: knock him. And you also have to look at production
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: and like he plays in a two gapping system where
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: he's a nose tackle, so like he's not gonna have TFLs,
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: he's not gonna have stuffs like he's that's not going
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: to be those of volume stats are not going to
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: count up.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: So don't count that.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, Yeah, they say that they're grading the
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: film and everything, but they're they signed a lot of
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: grades to production based stuff.
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: I mean, Will was never a favorite.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: As I've argued with them before about this with some
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: of my friends over there and I'm just like, but guys, like,
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: you're saying that so and so, you know, Dante high Tower.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: I remember this. You're saying that Dante high Tower is
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: having a bad season, and I could not be further
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: from the truth, And like, so where's the disconnect here?
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: And a lot of it had to do with, you know,
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: they don't give him a plus for blowing up a
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: guard and you know and letting somebody else make the
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: tackle right, you know, whereas when you're watching the film,
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: the coaches here are saying Dante high Tower did his
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: job right, you know, So that that's that's the big
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: description to.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Sure argued about that. We're not argued, but lamented about
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: that for years. Todd's in North Carolina. What's up, Todd?
- 1:02:06Speaker 6: Hey, guys, can you hear me the time?
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: So I got a quick thing. I want one guy
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: that you've been pleasantly surprised by and one guy's just
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: a little bit disappointed in from each of you. Thank
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: that's pretty okay.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Thanks, one guy pleasantly surprised, one guy a little disappointed.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: Putting some thought into this one, Yeah, I haven't really
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: I wish I mean, I mean, it was an opportunity
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: to say I wish I was pleasantly surprised by Kean White.
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: I know some people have written that he's doing great
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: in camp. I haven't seen yet. I'd love to see it,
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: so I don't know what that makes him. But I'll
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: just use this chance to say I wish I could
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: say him right now. Some people probably would say him disappointing.
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: I don't want to take the cheese. I talked to
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: both thora. Maybe he's a pleasant surprise. I haven't really
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: been overly disappointed. I mean, maybe if you poke me
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: up to a lie detector, I would have to admit
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: I'm a little disappoint it in May, but I'm not.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: I'm not really overly surprised. I thought he was twenty one,
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: and you know he's gonna need some time to develop. Yeah,
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: Mapo's it's just disappointing.
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: He's hurt again. I mean, that's a disappointment.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: Would have liked to see him, a little surprised with.
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: Rager done nothing since Pat's Yeah, I'll throw I'll throw
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: one out there. Actually that I don't. I just and
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: he's on the fringe right now. But I'm just kind
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: of intrigued a little bit as Jamichael Hasty of you know,
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: just here and there he's going to make the hand.
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: You know, I don't know, I just I'm not gonna,
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: you know, say he's gonna be the next superstar or anything.
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: But you know, just one of those guys that and
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: the same thing with Terrell Jenny's kid who just was hurt.
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: But just watching him move a little bit, you know,
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: I think there's a there's a spot there. Just guys
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: I like to see in the preseason, you know, and
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: see if they have anty chease. I mean, I know
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: Hasty he's played a little bit in the league, so
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: you know, he's not a total jump but guys that
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: maybe could we get a spot. He's he's had a
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: little bit of juice, he's gotten some reps, you know,
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: with with some of these groups.
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: That you know, maybe the him and his guy looks like, yeah,
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: a little it might make a roster. I had someone
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: sort of talk to me a little bit about him
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: that he's one of those he looks like he's one
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: of those guys that's playing a little bit harder than
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: everybody else. You know, those guys. It wasn't my observation,
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: I'll be honest, but it wasn't it was from the
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: Norward all tent.
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: Yeah, pleasantly surprised. I would just say that the starting
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: offensive line as a whole, Like, I just don't think
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: it's been a train wreck. Yeah, I'm not saying that
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: there they've been elite or anything like that, but based
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: off of the last couple camps that we've seen where
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: there's guys running through the line all the time, I
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: don't feel like it's been that way.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: To me.
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: That's health. Yeah, Like these guys have been out there
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: every day, you know, we Andrews missed a couple of
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: days obviously, but for the most part, they've had their
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: top call it eight nine guys minus Cole Strange. Yeah,
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: you know, and they've been out there every you know,
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: every day. Last year when the season started, they had
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: to frantically find Tyrone Wheatley in Vederian Lowe off the
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: scrap peak because Calvin Anderson and was gone for the
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: entirety of camp. They had no where I mean, they
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: didn't even have Connor McDermott, remember, Yeah, like are they
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: had nowhere to turn? They had all these guys were hurt.
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: This year, Evan's right, it's not been anything like, yeah,
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: And I also just.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: Like shout out to my guy, Scott Peters, like I
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: feel like Scott Peters. I'm he's He's growing on me,
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: not that I didn't like him to begin with.
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: Every time I look at him, shoulders for day.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: If you pump him up too much, you'll be a
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: head coach.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: Next Yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic about him. And I think
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: the one thing that really stands out to me is
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: you see a little bit of things with each guy
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: that has gotten better from either last season in the
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: NFL or college. You know, in the case of Cayden Wallace,
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: like City Show looks much better in pass protection than
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: he did at times last year. And I think Cayden Wallace,
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: a lot of his technique, things that people talked about
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: in the draft, are already starting to show some signs
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: of improvement. So I give a lot of credit to
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: him and Coogler too. You know, I think those guys
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: know what they're doing with the offensive line, which which
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: helps a lot.
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: To Freddy Cougler, Robert Robert Robbie.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: Speaking of the offensive line, Dan Copen was in the house.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: Down the Davis all right, the strike system works.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: What betting platform is he working for now?
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: I just said hello, I didn't like kidding. I didn't
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: get into it.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: There's so many of them, everybody. That's all the all right,

- 1:07:57Speaker 10: A.
- 1:07:57Speaker 12: It's good to be uh, It's good to be out here.
- 1:08:00Speaker 12: I'm scared to have the players back in the building.
- 1:08:02Speaker 12: Yesterday we gave them the day off. I know a
- 1:08:04Speaker 12: lot of questions today will be about you know, Judon
- 1:08:07Speaker 12: and things like that. But just so you guys know,
- 1:08:08Speaker 12: my philosophy and our philosophy is to keep as much
- 1:08:11Speaker 12: internal as possible. Had a great meeting with Judon and
- 1:08:15Speaker 12: we're all moving forward. I remember as a player, it's
- 1:08:18Speaker 12: always a difficult time, right, It's always a difficult time
- 1:08:20Speaker 12: when you go through contract negotiations and things like that.
- 1:08:24Speaker 8: And saying that for the rest of the team, like
- 1:08:26Speaker 8: we're pushing forward.
- 1:08:27Speaker 12: Fully expect Matthew to be out here today and participate
- 1:08:30Speaker 12: in practice, but we're looking forward to getting better out
- 1:08:34Speaker 12: here today, and honestly, we're a week away from playing football.
- 1:08:36Speaker 12: I'm kind of excited to watch the Hall of Fame
- 1:08:38Speaker 12: game tonight, so the guys are ready to come out
- 1:08:41Speaker 12: here and compete.
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: To look on what happened out here on Monday.
- 1:08:46Speaker 12: With I'll tell you this, you know, first time head coaching,
- 1:08:50Speaker 12: first time in past. I always remember what happened that
- 1:08:52Speaker 12: day and saying that, you know, look, we had a conversation.
- 1:08:56Speaker 12: I have a great relationship with Matthew, have a great
- 1:08:58Speaker 12: relationship with the players.
- 1:09:00Speaker 8: But we're moving forward and we're trying to look up.
- 1:09:02Speaker 10: I know you can't get into specifics, but how would
- 1:09:04Speaker 10: you characterize that conversation with met.
- 1:09:07Speaker 12: It was good, it was healthy, and I always encourage
- 1:09:10Speaker 12: those guys to come in and speak with me or
- 1:09:12Speaker 12: speak with Elliott, and that's what it is, and those
- 1:09:14Speaker 12: things should happen inside of the walls.
- 1:09:15Speaker 8: It also must feel good to be able to get
- 1:09:17Speaker 8: some kind of closure with with the Buds.
- 1:09:19Speaker 12: Oh absolutely, Look, I mean there was that was a
- 1:09:21Speaker 12: long process, but I'm glad we got we got that
- 1:09:24Speaker 12: deal finished. And once again it goes to the point of,
- 1:09:26Speaker 12: you know, we want to sign players that we know
- 1:09:28Speaker 12: that still have good ball.
- 1:09:32Speaker 13: Being an ex player and having gone through situations where
- 1:09:35Speaker 13: contracts and negotiations it just.
- 1:09:37Speaker 8: Helped a lot.
- 1:09:38Speaker 12: And in saying that, I will say each each situation
- 1:09:42Speaker 12: is unique to itself, and so we can sit here
- 1:09:44Speaker 12: and say, you know, you should do this or do that.
- 1:09:46Speaker 12: There are all different situations. But like I said earlier,
- 1:09:48Speaker 12: I feel good about where we are right now. I
- 1:09:50Speaker 12: feel good about the way uh the players are are
- 1:09:53Speaker 12: operating out here on the field. I feel good about
- 1:09:54Speaker 12: the way Elliott and his staff are going to you know,
- 1:09:56Speaker 12: about this stuff because obviously he's very heavily involved.
- 1:09:59Speaker 8: So we're in a good place.
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: On Tuesday, Matthew wasn't here at practice.
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: Find what happened Monday.
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: There was a report also that wasn't at the facility.
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: Was that team driven and was he find it all?
- 1:10:09Speaker 8: I'm not ready to talk about that right now.
- 1:10:11Speaker 12: What I will say is we gave the guys that
- 1:10:13Speaker 12: day off yesterday to come out here today and be energized,
- 1:10:15Speaker 12: and once again we fully expect every player to come
- 1:10:18Speaker 12: out here and participate and get better.
- 1:10:20Speaker 8: You keep things in house.
- 1:10:23Speaker 13: It was a report yesterday there have been a contract
- 1:10:25Speaker 13: offered and his Twitter account, which says he does or
- 1:10:29Speaker 13: does not run immediately disputed that and said they're trying
- 1:10:32Speaker 13: to make me look bad again. Is that something that's
- 1:10:35Speaker 13: been addressed, because it seems like that keeps pushing things
- 1:10:37Speaker 13: into the forefront again.
- 1:10:38Speaker 8: Yeah, for me and for Elliott as well.
- 1:10:40Speaker 12: Look, those are internal conversations, and you know, once again,
- 1:10:44Speaker 12: we always think about these as long term relationships. Whether
- 1:10:46Speaker 12: we sign a player to an extension, whether we sign
- 1:10:48Speaker 12: a player off the street, whether we release a player,
- 1:10:50Speaker 12: these are long term relationships and that's something that I've
- 1:10:53Speaker 12: always take taken great pride in all of those things aside.
- 1:10:57Speaker 12: I mean, look, at some point in time, you'll talk
- 1:10:59Speaker 12: to Matthew, but right now, we just want to keep
- 1:11:01Speaker 12: that in the house from our perspective.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: What about what Devon got shaw, well, went into the
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: team's decision to give him a new contract.
- 1:11:06Speaker 8: Well, the thing about Gosha, you's a huge piece of
- 1:11:09Speaker 8: what we do.
- 1:11:10Speaker 12: I don't look, it's never a well, at least for
- 1:11:13Speaker 12: me at least, it has never been just a clean
- 1:11:14Speaker 12: process of all right, you want a deal, here's a deal.
- 1:11:16Speaker 8: All right, we're done.
- 1:11:17Speaker 12: And so this was a little bit more extensive. But
- 1:11:20Speaker 12: I'm happy to have him here. I'm happy to have
- 1:11:22Speaker 12: h Devon here, happy, right and ready to go.
- 1:11:25Speaker 8: So it's good.
- 1:11:27Speaker 10: Did the way he's carried himself in training camp have
- 1:11:28Speaker 10: to do it all with getting that deal done where
- 1:11:30Speaker 10: he's out here participating every day even though he's unhappy
- 1:11:32Speaker 10: with that contract.
- 1:11:33Speaker 8: That is our philosophy.
- 1:11:34Speaker 12: And once again, this isn't unique to the New England
- 1:11:36Speaker 12: Patriots as far as guys wanting a new contract. But
- 1:11:39Speaker 12: he handled it like a professional in the classroom. Out
- 1:11:41Speaker 12: here on the field, he was out here full pass,
- 1:11:43Speaker 12: participating everything. And uh that that definitely helps.
- 1:11:47Speaker 8: That's not definitely one what exchange.
- 1:11:49Speaker 7: But did Christian situation play into maybe a sense of
- 1:11:53Speaker 7: urgency when it came to get intout.
- 1:11:55Speaker 12: Honestly, those are two different type of players, you know.
- 1:11:57Speaker 12: The one thing about having DG back, he does provide
- 1:12:00Speaker 12: some stability up front. Now I'm saying that, you know,
- 1:12:03Speaker 12: my committee will have to try and replace the production
- 1:12:05Speaker 12: of Christian And honestly, you know, just talking about Christian,
- 1:12:09Speaker 12: I've had a couple of conversations with him.
- 1:12:11Speaker 8: He's in good spirits. It's one of those things that
- 1:12:13Speaker 8: you really can't control. But you know, when he's ready
- 1:12:16Speaker 8: to go, he'll be here. Is there any intestation that
- 1:12:18Speaker 8: he will be ready to go this season at all?
- 1:12:19Speaker 12: Or honestly, I'm not sure that I'll leave that to
- 1:12:22Speaker 12: the medical professionals. I'm really not sure. I'm just happy
- 1:12:25Speaker 12: that he's doing the best.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: What have you observed from him?
- 1:12:30Speaker 12: Yeah, so I'll tell you this, I've always I've been
- 1:12:32Speaker 12: a huge fan of Pope, you know, since scouting, you know,
- 1:12:35Speaker 12: scouting all those other players, and you know, he's just
- 1:12:37Speaker 12: one of those guys like when he puts the pads on,
- 1:12:39Speaker 12: he's that much better. He does the dirty work. He
- 1:12:41Speaker 12: also can run, you know, great, rouse has great hands.
- 1:12:43Speaker 12: He's one of those just all around players that you
- 1:12:45Speaker 12: want to build your team around. And I would also
- 1:12:47Speaker 12: say he does flash some leadership ability, which I definitely
- 1:12:51Speaker 12: appreciate it.
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: How much do you appreciate guys from your perspective that
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: keeps showing up on film every day when you go
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: back and look at the practice film.
- 1:12:59Speaker 12: Yeah, they're definitely guys that are showing up. And really,
- 1:13:01Speaker 12: you know two phases like this counts special teams as well,
- 1:13:04Speaker 12: and it's good to see those guys get better.
- 1:13:06Speaker 8: And I told you guys.
- 1:13:07Speaker 12: This are my press or that I'm in the business
- 1:13:09Speaker 12: of developing men, developing good men before good players. But
- 1:13:13Speaker 12: if we want to win games, we have to have
- 1:13:15Speaker 12: good players. And it's exciting to see guys like Ox
- 1:13:17Speaker 12: take that step forward. You know, those guys are doing
- 1:13:19Speaker 12: a good job just getting better and contributing.
- 1:13:22Speaker 8: Said earlier in camp about Drake.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: Will be ups and downs, and I feel like the
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: first two days of Pad's the worst.
- 1:13:26Speaker 8: Some you know, a little bit of a roller coaster.
- 1:13:28Speaker 8: Question is what did you learn about Drake? You know,
- 1:13:30Speaker 8: during after those two practices, Let's let's rewind a little bit.
- 1:13:33Speaker 12: And you know, I got this feeling when we met
- 1:13:34Speaker 12: with Drake and Carolina, just this overall mental toughness and competitiveness,
- 1:13:38Speaker 12: and he understands that it's not always going to be
- 1:13:41Speaker 12: it's not always going to be clean. I will say this,
- 1:13:43Speaker 12: He's handled it very well. Now I know that the
- 1:13:46Speaker 12: players will enjoy working with them, and he's a competitor coach.
- 1:13:50Speaker 8: It comes to captains, I think decided how you go about.
- 1:13:52Speaker 12: Ornan Org just so the same way it's I think
- 1:13:55Speaker 12: it's always important to allow their peers to vote on
- 1:13:58Speaker 12: captains out you know, I don't want to do with it.
- 1:14:00Speaker 12: I know him in my head who I think the
- 1:14:03Speaker 12: leaders of the team are. Hopefully that marries up with
- 1:14:05Speaker 12: what the players say, but I think the peers should
- 1:14:07Speaker 12: have the opportunity to vote on on their captains. One
- 1:14:09Speaker 12: thing I will say on that, I've never been a
- 1:14:11Speaker 12: huge fan of having you know, ten captains or eight
- 1:14:13Speaker 12: captains or anything like that. Uh you know, I don't
- 1:14:16Speaker 12: know what that number looks like, but it will be up.
- 1:14:17Speaker 8: To the players. Dredge the eposent question. You're now starting
- 1:14:21Speaker 8: your second week here training. Do you feel like your
- 1:14:23Speaker 8: team is where you want them to be right now?
- 1:14:27Speaker 12: Look, we have to realize we have to get better
- 1:14:29Speaker 12: each and every day, even when we go through the
- 1:14:31Speaker 12: regular season like where we are week one should not
- 1:14:33Speaker 12: be where we are and we gain.
- 1:14:35Speaker 8: And that's the approach that we're taking.
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: Going back to Drake, you know you see us up here,
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: or maybe you don't vote charting every pass.
- 1:14:43Speaker 8: Every completion, every incompletion.
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: I mean, is it fair to say just that you know,
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: he's battling through a little bit here a couple of days,
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: that maybe we're tough for him.
- 1:14:51Speaker 8: You know, I would say I would say, all the
- 1:14:52Speaker 8: rookies are battling through things.
- 1:14:55Speaker 12: You know, it's a different scheme, it's a different you know,
- 1:14:57Speaker 12: state for you know, there's so much change for these guys.
- 1:15:00Speaker 12: But what you want to see as those guys, you know,
- 1:15:03Speaker 12: go through adversity, you want to see him handle it
- 1:15:05Speaker 12: the right way. Like you don't want to see the
- 1:15:06Speaker 12: explosions on the sideline. You don't want to see any
- 1:15:08Speaker 12: of that. It's all about the next page and turning
- 1:15:10Speaker 12: the page.
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: That's right.
- 1:15:12Speaker 8: Question. There's been a lot of talk, you know, because
- 1:15:15Speaker 8: maybe some of these struggles early on.
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: What would be your message to people just about maybe
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: those early struggles because he.
- 1:15:22Speaker 8: Is a rookie.
- 1:15:23Speaker 12: You know, Look, look, people are going to have their opinions.
- 1:15:24Speaker 12: I would say the opinions inside of the four walls
- 1:15:26Speaker 12: matter most. And I would say the people inside the
- 1:15:29Speaker 12: four walls know what they're talking about, and so you.
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: Can take that for what it is.
- 1:15:34Speaker 8: We all support Drake. We all know what it's like
- 1:15:35Speaker 8: to be a rookie in this league.
- 1:15:36Speaker 12: Not you guys obviously, but I know what it's like
- 1:15:39Speaker 12: to be a rookie and it's not all peaches and cream.
- 1:15:42Speaker 12: You probably remember this San Francisco, my rookie year. You know,
- 1:15:45Speaker 12: I got benched on third down. I only played early
- 1:15:47Speaker 12: downs because I just wasn't ready. And that was like
- 1:15:49Speaker 12: week ten, right, it was like week ten, week eleven.
- 1:15:51Speaker 12: But it was a wake up call for me to
- 1:15:53Speaker 12: get benched. And you know from there on I was
- 1:15:55Speaker 12: going and I was Rookie of the year. Still got benched.
- 1:15:57Speaker 12: So whatever we want to talk about with Drake, there
- 1:15:58Speaker 12: will be up and downs. Hopefully it ends on up.
- 1:16:02Speaker 8: Guys considered giving.
- 1:16:04Speaker 11: Great some reps with like the top offensive grouping that
- 1:16:08Speaker 11: Jacoby's been with, just to see what he can do
- 1:16:09Speaker 11: with those guys.
- 1:16:11Speaker 12: Like you guys said, it's a second week of training camp.
- 1:16:12Speaker 12: We have a game here a week from now. He'll
- 1:16:14Speaker 12: have an opportunity to go out there and participate with
- 1:16:17Speaker 12: if you want to call him the ones, the ones,
- 1:16:18Speaker 12: but we mix a match.
- 1:16:20Speaker 8: Thanks. I thought you guys are going to be harder
- 1:16:22Speaker 8: and that when.
- 1:16:23Speaker 7: Someone accidentally threw the school play costumes, no replacements were
- 1:16:28Speaker 7: shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery, everyone
- 1:16:31Speaker 7: could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where now
- 1:16:35Speaker 7: it's next for residential delivery.
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: Only and now great moments in.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: History, no one was worth a big hit.
- 1:16:46Speaker 10: He was.
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: He was.
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: He had also didn't wait till the break. As soon
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: as the food arrived, he would just shut his microphone off,
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: move it away, and start eating. But I mean seriously, yea,
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: he'd be done before the break started.
- 1:16:59Speaker 14: He'd actually sentence in an argument with Fred and and
- 1:17:02Speaker 14: if the producer would come in with the food, he
- 1:17:03Speaker 14: would stop what he was doing.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: Yeah, he would be.
- 1:17:07Speaker 14: Arguing, you know, passionately about something and it would just
- 1:17:10Speaker 14: like drop everything and Tred be like, you can't.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: Even have like the producer go down because you know
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: they'd have the media meal, so you know, just make
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: us a plate. So he'd come back with like maybe
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: six or seven sandwiches, and the moment he put it
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: down to the table, they like just just jump on high.
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: Metabolism.
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: Guy just always eating, always eating, but he has always eating.
- 1:17:32Speaker 8: But he always work out.
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: Yeah, if he ever slows down in his workout, he's
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: gonna balloon. The rest of his body will catch up
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: to his head.
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: That's another great moment from.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: All right back here and Patri's Unfiltered A five to
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: five past five hundred is the A Sticket Hotline Web
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: radio at patries dot com is the email address.
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: No more food and well you change the studio. It's
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: not conduc so for it.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: Oh stop it. You just eat the food. Eat food.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: Had my lunch.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Evan eight, he went over there and you
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: stood up. I did a grab and go before I
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: came down grabbing. I just ran through the draft kings
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: thing and grabbed a couple playing with mini chicken salad sandwiches.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: I did so fast they didn't even see.
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: It pays to be at the executive level. I went
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: so fast, Like, would you say, did you wait thirty minutes?
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: I figured if I before swimming?
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: I figured if I kept moving, no one would catch me.
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: It's like it's like swimming. H yeah, you have to
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: wait thirty minutes.
- 1:18:35Speaker 5: Even watching some swimming. You watch any swim lives, I've
- 1:18:37Speaker 5: been watching a lot of it.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: I actually love the swimming. That's I think my I've
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: decided is my favorite.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Those swimmers against Lea DECI you're still swimming.
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: Can you imagine? Like she has the twenty fastest times
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: ever recorded in the fifteen hundred. Yeah, like her twenty
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: her twentieth best day is better than anyone's ever done. It.
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: Her lungs must be like credible, like she's a big
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: smoker cigarettes that the world.
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: Record them out.
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: Dominance one another gold medal just like literally just now.
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: Miles spoiling my stories tonight in the all Around all Around, Yeah,
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: he's spoiling my stories.
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: Have you watched Gold Zone yet?
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: No, I was watching. I've been watching, like I I
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: watched every night a little bit. I know, mostly when
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: I'm watching what you know, what the results were, but
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: there's still fun to watch.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: You watched like the night like.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Features certain things.
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: I saw North Korea women's won like a like a
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: sink diving thing, and it was like the first time.
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: I was like, I didn't even realize No Korea was
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: in the Olympics, like you know, it was.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: Their first the first time it was North.
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: Korea, North Korea.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: I didn't know that either.
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, I watched a decent amount yesterday. I watched
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: the basketball game. Obviously it's good.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: Uh, let's see Joey from I think Texas right said, yeah,
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: he is, how you doing? He says, Let's hope Drake
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: May isn't a twenty twenty four draft. May stake, oh Brissette,
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: Zappi and Milton are not franchise quarterbacks. And let's hope
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: Drake turns it around soon. He's got soon in capital letters,
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: we need to turn football back in New England. Need
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: better practices.
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: I got one guy saying that the two practices the
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: next two days are make or break. Now.
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: Now we've got a listener saying we need to turn
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: this crap around soon. Sound practice on Saturday, Paul, I'm out.
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: I'm out, just going to go do something else.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: I think Evan and I should just spend the whole
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: practice on Saturday needling you, like, what do you think
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: might in completely pass?
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: Then?
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: Do you see that?
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: I guess I guess like selfishly though for me, like
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: this is these are the last couple probably super fun practices,
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: the joint practice, but otherwise we don't get to watch
- 1:20:49Speaker 5: practice again, like this is kind of it, you.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: Know, and those.
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: Down so we get the whole Eagles week too. Yeah,
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: well one practice, No, it's multiple that week.
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: It's Monday Tuesday.
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: Yeah, that's only watching one practice.
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: Right Tuesday we get and then we think we might get.
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: My guess is after the Eagles game, leading into the
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: Washington game, we'll get We'll get practices that we can see.
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: Yeah, correct, Yeah, that wouldn't be open to the public,
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: right because those are so like when we came back
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: from Green Bay last year and those Tennessee practices that
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: didn't happen, but they happened here. We the media gets
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: to go to those, but the they're closed to the public.
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: But we still got to watch those practices. So you
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: get to watch all the way through the third preseason game.
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: So one thing, you know that and I'm not a
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: huge like we got to go to practice, you know,
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: you know Capital J journalists, I demand my presence, Like,
- 1:21:41Speaker 4: but it is kind of like lousy that you have
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: a third overall pick quarterback who probably isn't going to
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: start at least right away, and you don't get a
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: chance to watch practice once the preseason ends to sort
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: of see how he's developing. You know, like do you
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: watch him in week eight and say, Wow, he's much
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: better than he wasn't training camp? You know you don't
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: get to see that, right, Yeah.
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you know I do. I do wonder and this
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: is coming from somebody that this is my bread and
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: butter training camp, but I do wonder if it's like
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: if we need to be there at every single practice
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: this time of year, Like, I just don't know if
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: it's necessarily does I don't know if it necessarily is
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: a great for the team.
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh listen, I five is the coaches.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: I'd rather have no one at Well, totally understand why
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: coaches don't want to.
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: See in pockets, But what happens is that you end
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: up going on this training camp roller coaster of one
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: day's good, one day's bad, one day's good, one day's bad,
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: and like none of it really means anything, whereas like
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: in OTAs and stuff, where we just get that the
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: one snapshot here, one snapshot there, like you don't necessarily
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: see like what Paul is talking about the progress. But
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: then you come back a week later and it's like, oh,
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: it looks a little better if you look at it.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: From the league standpoint. Look at all the volume of
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: content that comes out from each team, each rapport throughout
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: training camp because they've got the access.
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: Yeah you know, it's from a professional standpoint, a sight
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: out of mind.
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: Yeah you know.
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and every every sport you know does it. Yeah,
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: you know, every sport allows you to cover the preseason.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see. That reminds me. You you said the
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: Capital J journalism. It reminded me of a story that
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: came out and we've talked about it before. But I
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: guess the NFL p A is now coming up with
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: proposals about no reporters in the locker room. I mean,
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: we've talked about that before.
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: They're trying to take the reporters out.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: Of and come up with another way to do those interviews,
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: but just not in the locker.
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: Room after after games, are you know team drinks. Yeah,
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: I agree with the privacy aspect of it, but when
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: you go into the locker room, you know, don a Wednesday,
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: and you just kind of get to bop around and
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: like check in with four or five players, not necessarily
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: even like an on the record interview, but that's just
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: like how you start to get to know the guy
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: so that when it comes to asking questions on the record,
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: they're you're not asking a stranger, you know the question,
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: And I just I wonder how you recreate that, Yeah,
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: without being in the locker I.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: Think during the week is I think to me, during
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: the week is more problematic because that's when like you said,
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: you form those relationships after game. Maybe instead of the
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: players going right to the locker room, you have you know,
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: a fifteen minute period after the game where the players
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: have to stay out of the field and you do
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: them right there.
- 1:24:38Speaker 4: Well, I will say that one of the things the
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: way they do training camp now, like they make you know,
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: a half dozen guys available every day and they put
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: them at the podiums. It is a tough way to cover,
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: you know, thank you COVID. You know, it's a tough
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: way to do it. The way like I used to like,
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: the old way is they would have you ask them
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: right who you want, who you want, and you know
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: you would put it. But you also could talk to
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: a player coming off the field. You could go up
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: to a guy and say, hey, David Andrews, you know
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: you got a second, and if he didn't, if he
- 1:25:14Speaker 4: didn't want to talk, he would say no, Just like
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: in the locker room, if he went up to a
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: guy at his locker and ask him if he had
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: a minute, he might say no, I'll catch you tomorrow
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: or whatever. I like that better because I don't really
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: necessarily feel like you get anything out of anybody when
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: there's fifty of his closest friends, you know, asking questions
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: like if you're going to talk to someone and get
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: anything out of them, you got to have a small group.
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: You gotta have the ability to do it on your own.
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but I've often said, like I kind of think
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: the locker room should be their sanctuary. And you know
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: I I and we have another way.
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: You know, I wouldn't be I wouldn't be opposed to that,
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: But there's got to be some kind of way that
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: you have a chance to talk to anybody you want,
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: not just the guys they make of available.
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: And informally, like you got to force them to hang
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: out with you.
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: Yeah, because like to Paul's point, and I know most
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: people are listening to this like they don't care. I'm
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: sorry that your job is not as fun as it
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: used to be. But you know, to Paul's point, like
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: when you used to be able to just pull guys
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: coming off the field, like it wasn't like you weren't
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: walking off to Tom Brady and saying, you know, hey,
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: like you know what what did how is practice today?
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: But it was you know, some of the guys usually
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: that were like fighting for roster spots or on the
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: bubble or rookies or whatever, and then you got an
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: opportunity to say, hey, what happened on this player that
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: play that happened in practice today, Whereas when they get
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: up to the podium, it's like structured, you know, and
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: you feel a little bit more limit.
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: Everyone writes the same thing now off of you know
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: what the right you know, whatever a good SoundBite is.
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: Everybody's like and there it is.
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: And you know, to your point, Fred, like, you know,
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: the NFL probably loves this because you got all this
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: glot of coverage, but it's all the same, right, you know,
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: And the NFL doesn't care because it's just the volume
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: that they care about. But I just think it's sort
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: of unfortunate that there's nothing really there's nothing really different.
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and you can like put in requests to talk
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: to players, but you can put in the request before practice.
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: So it's like, well, if so and so has a
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: great practice, like that changes now who I would want
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: to talk to after practice, Whereas if the guy I
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: requested in the morning is doesn't even practice, then that
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: doesn't mean no good.
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: Yeah, So I don't know. I just thought i'd bring
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: that up because that's interesting. I mean read that a
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: couple of days ago.
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just hard as it feels like no matter
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: what whatever, the you know, replacement for that is is
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: going to be a waste of the player's time in
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: their mind that they're going to have to go somewhere
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: and hang out.
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: I don't think they'll do it that way. I think
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: that the the result. And I understand Fred, and you
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: and I feel the same way about the locker room.
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: You and I have never felt really great about being
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: in the locker room, right, I agree, But I think
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: the result is going to be you're gonna get coverage
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: the way training camp is. They're gonna they're going to
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: make a half dozen or so players available every day,
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: and that's what you get.
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: Well, you know, and you know, then there's the other issue.
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: Everything's about equality these days, and you know, as what's say,
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: women's hockey and women's soccer pro soccer becomes big, more
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: people will start covering it, and some of them will
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: be men. Are you know a lot of men in
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: their locker rooms?
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: Probably not so.
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: I did cover a women's beam pot one year, one
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: hundred years ago, and yeah, no, like they you would
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: stand outside the locker room and you you know, you
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: have to bring players out to you. You do not
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: go in the lot.
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: There's a lot of athletes, So why is that anything?
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: Why do I have to, you know, make sure that
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: I'm dressed or you know, uh after a game like so,
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: I get it. I get it.
- 1:28:33Speaker 5: A lot of people them just don't care, you.
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: Know, a lot of them.
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: But I would be too.
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: I'd never put my shirt on if I look like that.
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: Alex in Somerset was not the shirt I'm worried about,
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: Dann Skipper.
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: I'm looking at you, Patriots missiles. Alex in Somerset watching
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: pokes highlights in college, he remind me a lot of
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: Brandon Mafel. Big doesn't create a ton of separation. It's
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: seemingly a clutch player. Do you guys see any similarities
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: in his game to la Fel? And if he does
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: end up having a career that Mary's Lafel, would you
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: be happy with that?
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: I see some similarities, and you know, I do see
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: someone in the know what all tent actually made that comparison.
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: I do see some similarities.
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: And then I don't remember with Brandon, you know, this
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: was I was a little young and at that point.
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: But he was an outside guy, right, He was.
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: More of an outside guy than this, but like sort
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: of like a good drive starter kind of guy. Right, Yeah,
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: we'll go, you know, hard play action on first and
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: ten from our twenty and he's gonna he's gonna run
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: a quick out or a quick game for eleven.
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: Right here we go, drive star, right, Yeah, I remember
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: those types of plays and then obviously the playing against Baltimore,
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: you know, in the playoffs, but like those were outside,
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: like those are perimeter.
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: He was more of an outside guy.
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: Yeah, that first touchdown against Seattle in Super Bowl forty nine.
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: And that's, oh yeah, that's kind of good one.
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: Too, you know, But I see the similarities as you're saying.
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: But I think Polk is going to be more of
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: an interior guy, and I think the hope is that
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: he just has a little bit more wiggle than you know,
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: fell kind of tall stiff. I mean, I don't I'm
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: not saying that Polk isn't.
- 1:30:09Speaker 4: A little stiff too, but yeah, I would be disappointed
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: if that's all we ends up being.
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: No me too for sure.
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: Ready for some trivia, okay, and it will be wonderful.
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: Enrique from Monterey has some and looks like these are
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: mostly a lot of them will have to do with
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: playoffs with Super Bowl, but not all of them anyway.
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: First one, there are don't look, dude, I'm not looking.
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: They don't even look at him.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: There are only three teams that have reached the Super
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: Bowl three years in a row. Buffalo and New England
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: are two of those. Who's the other one?
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: Miami correct seventy one, seven.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: Before my time, since nineteen thirty six, the first.
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: Ever drafts before my time too. But you just kind
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: of know. Yeah, I don't know if you guys know,
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: but in seventeen seventy six, before my time, we won
- 1:30:59Speaker 4: our independence on hundred years before. Okay, I wasn't there,
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: I wasn't born.
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: Weren't Hamilton, You weren't in the room, but.
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: People told us. You know, people have read about it.
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: Since nineteen thirty six, the first ever draft. There are
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: only three teams that have never had the worst record
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: in the NFL, thus never had picked number one overall,
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: which are Greenburg.
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: Pittsburgh's one of them.
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: I think Green Bay is incorrect.
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh.
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: I think Terry. I think Terry Bradshaw is the first correct.
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: Damn three teams have never had the worst record in
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: the NFL.
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: You can just but I have no idea.
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: Baltimore, Seattle and Denver.
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: Seattle was believable. Okay, Seattle's a little surprising. They haven't
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: been around that.
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing, they haven't been around it.
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: Well, yeah, Rick Meyer was two three.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: Who was the last black place kicker in the NFL?
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: Who the guy from the Raiders?
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: That's a punter, Donald, That is correct?
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: Oh my god, I just threw that out.
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: Wow, the punter.
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: What is the NFL team in history to the playoffs
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: seven consecutive years without reaching the conference championship game?
- 1:32:16Speaker 4: Someone made the playoffs seven consecutive years without winning, went
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: out reaching the championship.
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: I did not know.
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: I'll give you a hint.
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: I'm gonna need a hint.
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: The name of the team no longer exists.
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: Oilers.
- 1:32:35Speaker 5: That's correct, run sho.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: Finally, time two teams that played each other in the
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: Super Bowl was their first appearance for both teams. So
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: two teams and it was their first appearance that played
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: each other.
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: These are really good questions.
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: These are these are hard?
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: It's like, so is this like when was the last time,
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: So last time, the last right, okay, because obviously when
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: the Super Bowls start right right.
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: Right, right right right.
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: The lab Baltimore in two thousand.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: I think you've got to go back further, go back further.
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: The last time.
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: Chicago, New England.
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's correct.
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: Wow, good questions in ry K.
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: Yeah, in England.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: There's some trivia, good stuff in Rique. Thank you.
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: It was the last time both teams made their first appearance. Wow,
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: that's a long time ago. Eighty five.
- 1:33:41Speaker 5: Yeah, Super thirty one, is that what it was?
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and it had to be both teams.
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: Now, I was twenty, It's my my senior year of
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: high school. Bro.
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: So you were there for that one.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: I was there.
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: I was there for that one.
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: That was all ed. I was at the fish the
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: fumble on the first play of the game.
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: ZIP and they never scored again. It was so fifty
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: six ten right, forty six.
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: I'm said, I just still remember the energy. I mean
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: even as a kid, I was like ten years old,
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: but it was just the whole town was like crazy
- 1:34:19Speaker 5: for the Patriots. They made like a music video like
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: I don't know how my dad got it might have
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: been through Rebok, but it was like a touchy feely
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: so that's what friends are for. And it was all
- 1:34:26Speaker 5: like all kinds of like slow motion locker room footage
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: of like you know, we made the X.
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: It was the era of the cheesy video.
- 1:34:34Speaker 5: Patriots.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: Then we we're the best in the AFC.
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: I'm so glad we've come from I waved rather than
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: to do that.
- 1:34:42Speaker 5: No, we're we're gonna all sing a song as the
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: media for the team going to the Super Bowl.
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: I'm very glad that we had super.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: That was good. Back back then we thought, now you
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: look at.
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: It, Oh that was good. There's cheesy video, but the
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: song was good.
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: It would have gone viral today. That would have been
- 1:34:58Speaker 5: like a TikTok like craze.
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: It was like, oh, you gotta do right.
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: You have a little lot of little NFL news. Justin
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: Herbert Planter fascia in his foot.
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: That's a big injury. Do we mention the defensive lineman
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: that we signed on the air, Mike Mike Purcell.
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, sign Mike Purcell. Yeah, veteran guy, but according.
- 1:35:18Speaker 5: To his agency, big dog. I mean, I just say
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: I'm surprised. I thought when you said defensive lineman, I
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: anticipated maybe a lighter guy two ninety a kind of upfield,
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: you know. Bar Moore asked, now that you've secured uh, gotcha,
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: But he's more like a big fatty like gotcha you know.
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: Yeah, that's who spent I guess, say twenty seventeen. Yeah,
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: on the practice practice squad here.
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: It's even kind of kicking around. I think it was
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: Denver last year.
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: I wonder if like in their base front. Yeah, I
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: was doing this yesterday when they resigned. God or they
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: send a gotcha, yeah, gotsha the nose. You have Dietrich
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: Wise at one of the three four ends, and then
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: Barmore would have been at the other spot. And now
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: it's like, is it Keon White He's probably a little
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: undersize for that. Is it Jeremiah Farms, like you know,
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: Watts a quality? Maybe this is one of those guys
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: that's like more like a Lawrence guys.
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: So there it is. There it starts. Patriots play the Chargers. Yeah,
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: there's one backup.
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: Oh shoot, you said Justin Herbert. I heard for some
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: reason I went in my head justin Fields for some
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: reason now Herbert.
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: But they're saying that he should be ready for they're
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: gonna shut him down obviously, and you should be ready
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: for the start of regular season. But that's typically an
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: injury that lingers. Yeah, that's a tough one.
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: And now, was that like something that kind of develops
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: or is that a sudden traumatic?
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: It's a stress it's a stress injury. Yeah, that's what achill. No,
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: it's in your foot, like in the inside of your foot,
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: usually inside of the foot usually, but I think it
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: can be. Yeah, I'm not a doctor.
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: When I fell down the steal like that one too.
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: Let's get back to the ace ticket outline eight five
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: to five past five hundred. Anthony's in Toronto. What's up, Anthony?
- 1:36:57Speaker 10: Hey, guys a long time listen.
- 1:36:59Speaker 6: They're like they're time caller.
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: I think, okay, I just wanted to say.
- 1:37:04Speaker 10: Thank you and appreciate you guys.
- 1:37:05Speaker 6: You guys absolutely kill it.
- 1:37:06Speaker 10: I feel like you don't get enough recognition.
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: So well that's true for money.
- 1:37:11Speaker 10: Obviously, this show has changed a lot, you know, going
- 1:37:13Speaker 10: from Andy and Eric and you know, Kevin and the
- 1:37:15Speaker 10: Booth to the team now, which is significantly better. Let's rated,
- 1:37:19Speaker 10: are you know one of the accent off and that.
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: Kind of thing.
- 1:37:22Speaker 6: So I just want to again, want to say, appreciate
- 1:37:23Speaker 6: you guys, and quick question.
- 1:37:26Speaker 10: Obviously, you know we kind of have like our top
- 1:37:27Speaker 10: four receivers, you know, Born, Baker, Polk and Douglass they're
- 1:37:31Speaker 10: going to make the roster and then it looks like
- 1:37:33Speaker 10: we're probably gonna keep stick.
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: So of the other three guys who right.
- 1:37:37Speaker 10: Now based off training him, do you guys think we're
- 1:37:39Speaker 10: going to keep out of Juju Osbourne and then take
- 1:37:42Speaker 10: one man?
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: I keep forgetting about it.
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: Is probably gonna stay, although I don't think he's had
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: a great camp, but I think he I think he'll stay.
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: Thornton is the guy that I think has been showing
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: up more so than Booty Rager Juju. I think Jordon
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: has showing up more than those guys. And I think
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: I kind of look at that group is maybe fighting
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: for a spot or two.
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I see those three guys right now. For me,
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: it's it's it's Osbourne, Rager and Thornton as like the
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: last three for two spots.
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: And I just I think I think everything's new. When
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: you're making those decisions, do you ask the.
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: Quarterback set and may like who do probably kind of
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: get inut?
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: Maybe? Yeah, I think that you know, with the OZ.
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: That's dangerous probably a little bit, especially for Drake because
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: like he's probably gonna favor the young guys, you know,
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: like you know, I like the rookies, like the guys
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: I've been here with me since May. But I think
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: that the kJ Osborne to me, is probably gonna make
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: the team. And you gotta have some experience in that
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: room if you go all young and it's really just
- 1:38:48Speaker 3: Kendrick Bourne, that's the one veteran. And early on in
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: the season, as much as we all want to see
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: Polkin Baker, there's a chance that they might roll you know,
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: Born if he's healthy, Osborne pop, you know, and ease
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: the rookies into it a little bit more so, I
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: say him and right now Taekwon. I think Taekwan has
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: been been better, But it depends on how much they
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: put stock into the return game, like if they feel
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: like Rager's return ability is more important than than it
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: could be.
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: Same.
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: It's just interested in Booty and Rager because I mix
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: them up a lot, just you know, when you quick
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: glance and that Booty Rager they look kind of similar
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: to me. They play both on the outside. I think
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: they both you know, had a couple of moments, but
- 1:39:27Speaker 5: they just they seem to be getting a lot of reps.
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: That's you know that they're getting a long look at
- 1:39:30Speaker 5: both of those guys. I just I think guys like
- 1:39:33Speaker 5: Booty though, need to make some plays here coming up
- 1:39:35Speaker 5: over the next couple of weeks.
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: Uh, let's see. Corey writes in he says, do you
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: guys see match On signing a multi million dollar contract
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: with the team when it's all said and done.
- 1:39:46Speaker 5: No, I mean I think I mean one year. I
- 1:39:48Speaker 5: mean I think give them a sweetener this year. I
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: think that's a great question though. I mean it's did
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: they go into next year. I mean, I think we're
- 1:39:54Speaker 5: all in the mind of, like, pay him this year
- 1:39:56Speaker 5: and then next year you move on. I don't really
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: want to do the void years and all that stuff.
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: I don't see a multi million dollar multi year extension
- 1:40:04Speaker 5: where it makes Matthew Judah on a Patriot for four
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: I don't see that. It's one or two years.
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: I think it's yeah, And I don't mind the void
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: year stuff. I just don't think they'll do it. I
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: don't think they need to do it. I think he
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: just needs more money for this year.
- 1:40:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd rather tack on real years to it. That
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: gives you team control to maybe trade him at some point.
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: What if that's the sticking point, What if he wants
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: a little longer term security.
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: I'd probably sign him for one more year, like if
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: they want to do yeah, just to have that control
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: where you know, trade deadline, offseason whatever. If they do
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: want to then look to move him, then they have
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: some term with him to be able to take right yea, yeah,
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: Jasper and Maine.
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: First off, just want to thank Paul for helping me
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: become a better person.
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: That's starting to get.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: So my silly off season question is who do you
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: think of the roster or former player as well? Is
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: the best example of nominative determinism? That is, who has
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: a name that sounds perfect for the position they play?
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: For example, High Tower had a perfect linebacker name.
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: So who's my quick wide receiver, right, Rodney Harrison. I
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: don't know if there's an example of that perfect name anybody.
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: This guy must be a running.
- 1:41:24Speaker 8: Back or what.
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: I kind of feel like Vince will fork because like
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: a forklift and like he was, you know, this big,
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: gigantic guy in the middle of the defense. I always
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: felt like Will Fork like was fitting that he was
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: a big, strong dude. But I don't have a great
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: one for that.
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: John Hannah, you know you spell the same way frontwards
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: as backwards and just solid player.
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: It's a palindrome, Hannah.
- 1:41:53Speaker 4: It's a palindrome that made him good.
- 1:41:56Speaker 5: I don't know who else, how many other players in
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: the league of palindromes, Paul.
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: If your speed, if you made the Colts like nowadays,
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: like if you if you're a quarterback that has a
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: lot of swagger and your name is Joe, that makes
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: sense name if Joe Burrow, you know that's a that's
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: a cool quarterback name.
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: Put in Joe Burrow and Joe Montana conversation.
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: What the hatred of Joe Burrow is?
- 1:42:23Speaker 5: Just it's the eminem it oozes.
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: Like maybe, you know, maybe maybe do something before we crown,
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: just saying.
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: But no one else comes to mind.
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: No for this team.
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: Yeah, for this team, I don't know.
- 1:42:38Speaker 4: We don't have any.
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: The coolest name on the roster of still Chambers Steel
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: Chambers definitely.
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: I he's gonna make the team.
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: Cold Strange, that's pretty name. But do you think col
- 1:42:48Speaker 5: Strange has any chance again this job that, yes, but
- 1:42:52Speaker 5: it's if he was healthy. Yeah, just coming up like
- 1:42:55Speaker 5: he's he's gonna be for a while. He's gonna come
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: mid season and you think.
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: Like it might be a lost year for him from
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: a physical standpoint, But yeah, I think he'd have every opportunity.
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: To I think there's a chance that if he came
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: back and was that full strength, that on when it
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: would go to right tackle and I guess maybe that
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: that would create that. But I feel pretty good about
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: City David Andrews and on the inside, and I almost
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: don't want to mess with it. And I don't know,
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: I don't know where col Strange would fit in. But
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: if they just wanted to get him back on the
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: field because they used the first round pick on him
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: a couple of years ago and that whole thing, I
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: would assume that would be the configuration to make it work.
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: You're not going to put any of those guys on
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: the bench unless they're not playing. You know, Citi's not
- 1:43:38Speaker 3: playing well, which I don't think is going to happen.
- 1:43:40Speaker 5: His offensive line like one of the hardest positions to
- 1:43:42Speaker 5: decide that in season though, where you don't really have
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: like real live competition to evaluate guys, like you don't
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: mean to evaluate guard plays solely off of in season practices.
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: Just you'd have to be like, this is a guy
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: that we're putting him back in, Like it's one of
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: the obvious.
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: When Logan Mankins held out that year and he missed
- 1:44:00Speaker 4: the first nine games, I mean, he didn't miss a
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: snap when he was eligible to return. Remember when he
- 1:44:06Speaker 4: came back, immediately went in the lineup. Yeah, but that's
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: I'm not telling you cold strangers Logan Mankins Like.
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: Well, it's just because cold strange doesn't really have great size,
- 1:44:15Speaker 5: you know. I mean, he certainly moves like pretty well,
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: and he's an athletic guy, but.
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: You know, just he might be a better fit than practice.
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: Maybe Rob's in South Carolina, he's on the ace ticket
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: hut line. What's up? Rob?
- 1:44:28Speaker 8: Me?
- 1:44:28Speaker 12: Everybody?
- 1:44:29Speaker 8: How what were you doing?
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: Good?
- 1:44:31Speaker 8: Good?
- 1:44:33Speaker 15: Paul, it's just kind of for you, So not trying
- 1:44:37Speaker 15: to start an argument. Just want to understand. I don't
- 1:44:40Speaker 15: think i've heard you explain why you'd rather address quarterback
- 1:44:44Speaker 15: first and then the rest of the roster, Because personally,
- 1:44:50Speaker 15: I thought May was a mistake this year. I thought
- 1:44:52Speaker 15: they should have gone tackle at receiver and then gone
- 1:44:55Speaker 15: for quarterbacks later. Why do you think the opposite is true?
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: And I'll I got off here, thank you, Okay, Yeah,
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: I mean it's certainly to each his own. It's I
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: don't necessarily think like you need to get the quarterback first.
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: I'm not anti get the quarterback first. A lot of
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: people are. They don't think, you know, there was an
- 1:45:17Speaker 4: argument to be made throughout this pre draft process this
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: year that they don't have the roster to support a
- 1:45:23Speaker 4: young quarterback. So don't waste your time if you don't
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: think Drake may Is is good enough for the third
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: overall pick, by all means take a wide receiver, take
- 1:45:33Speaker 4: a tackle. If you do think he's good enough for
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: the third overall pick, I think you need to take
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: the quarterback. I felt may was good enough. But if
- 1:45:42Speaker 4: if Elliott Wolf didn't think he was good enough, then
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: he made a mistake, right right, Like, I don't think
- 1:45:48Speaker 4: it's because of philosophy.
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: Like the pick and he's going to be good.
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: I think quarterback is so hard, and this is why
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: I don't like the idea of just blanket statement he
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: needs to sit for a year. Maybe, Like I think
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: you need to play to find out if you can play,
- 1:46:05Speaker 4: find out how you develop, how long it's going to take,
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: and figure out what you need to do around him
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: and suit his skill set as opposed to we're going
- 1:46:15Speaker 4: to take a tackle with a third overall pick. Okay,
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: so now we have Joe Thomas in place, and who
- 1:46:22Speaker 4: knows what we're going to be in position to get.
- 1:46:24Speaker 4: You know, maybe next year you have another top five pick,
- 1:46:26Speaker 4: but there's no quarterback worth taking in the top five, right,
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: That's what's going to happen.
- 1:46:30Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:46:30Speaker 4: And then all of a sudden, with three years out
- 1:46:33Speaker 4: from this rebuilding process, and we still don't have a quarterback, right,
- 1:46:36Speaker 4: And that's sort of why it's to me, it's all
- 1:46:38Speaker 4: dependent on the players available. What was the other Kenny
- 1:46:41Speaker 4: Pickett was twenty two?
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: Twenty two?
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: If there was that year, I would have been right
- 1:46:46Speaker 4: on board with the caller. I would have said, take
- 1:46:49Speaker 4: Marvin Harrison, take take Joe Walt.
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: Especially Paul like some of the I think you did
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: your study there of just the quarterbacks that get taken
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: in the top five, and if you have a chance
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: in a year where there are three quarterback worthy of
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: the top three picks, that you kind of have to
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: take it. And I go back to watching the Giants
- 1:47:04Speaker 5: and hard to you could see how much they were like, yeah,
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: we're gonna kind of give Daniel Jones another chance, but
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: if we could get to Drake May, we'd probably just
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: go get him rather than taking neighbors, right.
- 1:47:15Speaker 4: And I like, again, if it was a year like
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: twenty two, when they weren't really first round quarterback values,
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: I would never say, like you got to take a
- 1:47:25Speaker 4: quarterack because you got get the quarterback first. I would say,
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: you know, find the best player and take him, and
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: then you got to keep you keep hoping.
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: That's the hardest thing.
- 1:47:34Speaker 4: I mean, I think they had a guy that was
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: worth the pick, but see maybe I'm wrong.
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: But then you look at twenty twenty one and it
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: feels like that's the hardest possible scenario for you to
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: be in terms of making this decision, because you had
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: a guy in mac Jones that was he dynamic and
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: like third first round talent dripping all of not really,
- 1:47:50Speaker 5: but he was the fifth guy and that was where
- 1:47:52Speaker 5: they were and that was who they kind of needed,
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: and that's what you know, and so it's it's hard
- 1:47:56Speaker 5: to say no.
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: One Paul say you always have to take the quarterback.
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: I would rather have the quarterback first.
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: I have said that, Well, if the quarterback's there, you
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: take it right, right.
- 1:48:06Speaker 4: And that's why I would say it. But like again,
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: I wouldn't just say take Jake Locker because you've got
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: to have a quarterback first, right, you know. I think
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: Drake May was worth that selection. Yeah, And it's about evaluation.
- 1:48:18Speaker 3: I also think your point about looking into future drafts,
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: and I know the argument against it is always like
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: Jadeen Daniels, like he comes out of nowhere, But if
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: you look at next year's quarterback class, you'd be lucky
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: to have one prospect that's as good as Caleb Jaden
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: Daniels and Drake May were as prospects in this class.
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: And that's one quarterback at the very very tippy top
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: that every team that needs a quarterback is.
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: Going to want.
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: So it's one of those situations where you also have
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: to look at the market and sort of what's going
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: to be available to you. I guess the only like
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: counter to that would be if they had gone into
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: twenty twenty five and traded the pick for a veteran
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: you know, like I guess you could do it that way,
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: but you know, I when the quarterback's there, that's just
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: business like you do. You don't mess around and start
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: taking tackles or trading down.
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: Sweet kid writes in, fred I just wanted to say
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: I wanted you to know that I love you. That
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: Hannah reference made no sense, but you looked at Paul
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: directly with that nonsense come out anyway.
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: It was beautiful.
- 1:49:21Speaker 5: Palindrome.
- 1:49:22Speaker 4: It's a palindrome. It's a good player.
- 1:49:25Speaker 5: Remember the first time I heard race Car was a palindrome,
- 1:49:27Speaker 5: blew my mind.
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: I was like, oh, yeah, race Car.
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: Okay, it's good one.
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: Let's see. Dorian writes in was watching Colin today, I
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: assume he meets Colin Coward and the headline was Patriots
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: are worried about quarterback room. Has Drake been that bad
- 1:49:45Speaker 2: to me? I'm thinking two practices and the sports media,
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: already deeming Patriots an offensive disaster confirms they couldn't wait
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: for us to be bad post dynasty. They loved dumping
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: on us Patriots versus the world.
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: Oh it was seven practices, but still the point.
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: I don't necessarily know if it's all that, But Patriots
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: worried about quarterback room. Sounds like it's coming from inside
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: the building.
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: The call is coming from inside the house.
- 1:50:10Speaker 3: And nobody inside the building. There's not been a report
- 1:50:14Speaker 3: from anybody saying somebody a source is telling me that
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: they're worried about where Drake May is at. It's it's
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: us and the know it all ten and Ramp that
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: are telling you that he's that he's had some difficult practices.
- 1:50:28Speaker 3: And so when he says the Patriots are worried, that's
- 1:50:31Speaker 3: very misleading from Colin Coward. It is the Patriots are
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: not worried about anything. We might be worried because that's
- 1:50:37Speaker 3: what we do, right right, I'm worried.
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: All right, Well, maybe he watches the show. All right,
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: we're going to wrap up a little early. Thanks for watching.
