Speaker 3: I'll drag her on the air with me coming up

Speaker 3: a little bit later on Metro News Meteorologist Brian Hughes. So,
• 2:15
Speaker 3: it has been kind of quiet so far, raining off
• 2:17
Speaker 3: and on here in the Valley High It is going
• 2:19
Speaker 3: to be of a low eighties today. The rain should
• 2:20
Speaker 3: begin to taper off overnight tonight with the low in
• 2:22
Speaker 3: the upper sixties. Tomorrow, some sun but also some showers
• 2:25
Speaker 3: and storms around high in the low eighties and some
• 2:27
Speaker 3: showers possible Saturday, highs and below to mid eighties. Looking
• 2:30
Speaker 3: good though on Sunday pleasant as Brian calls attempts around

• 2:43
Speaker 3: Big event happening Saturday at laidley Field and Charleston called
• 2:46
Speaker 3: the Capital City Bash, and it's being advertised as a
• 2:49
Speaker 3: night of faith, community and hope. Here to talk about
• 2:52
Speaker 3: it is and there from the Victory Church give us
• 2:54
Speaker 3: your name, sir, Pastor Stieve Sayer and Pastor Jefferson all right,
• 2:58
Speaker 3: took two of you to come in here day. Huh, yeah,
• 3:01
Speaker 3: that's all right. Tell us either one of you just
• 3:02
Speaker 3: tell us about this event.
• 3:04
Speaker 5: All right, Well, this is just an opportunity to get
• 3:06
Speaker 5: hopefully a bunch of people together and share some hope.
• 3:11
Speaker 5: You know, people need encouragement nowadays, and we intend to
• 3:14
Speaker 5: bring some of that. And we're gonna be giving away
• 3:18
Speaker 5: for the first one thousand and the tenants. We're gonna
• 3:20
Speaker 5: give away Chick fil A sandwiches for free. We're gonna
• 3:22
Speaker 5: have gas cards available for giveaway. We're gonna have uh,
• 3:26
Speaker 5: we're actually gonna be giving away some flash screens, some iPads,
• 3:29
Speaker 5: and we're gonna be having bouncies, cotton candy face paying
• 3:32
Speaker 5: the whole family. It's gonna be just a big fun event,
• 3:35
Speaker 5: some live music and then a message of hope and.
• 3:38
Speaker 3: Gates are gonna open up at six and the first
• 3:40
Speaker 3: giveaways start at seven. While the giveaways, I mean, what's
• 3:43
Speaker 3: what's the reason behind that?
• 3:44
Speaker 5: Just to share the practical love of God with the community,
• 3:47
Speaker 5: just to let them know, like, hey, we're here to
• 3:50
Speaker 5: be a blessing. You know, We're not trying to get
• 3:51
Speaker 5: anything from anybody. And uh, you know, just just to
• 3:56
Speaker 5: just to show some love.
• 3:58
Speaker 3: Where did the idea come from? Whose idea wasn't and
• 4:00
Speaker 3: how did you come up with them?
• 4:02
Speaker 5: I don't know, that's an interesting question. Uh, Jeff, why
• 4:05
Speaker 5: don't you pop in here for a second and tell us,
• 4:08
Speaker 5: Because he was the lady Field concept. He kind of
• 4:12
Speaker 5: was the brain hit.
• 4:14
Speaker 3: Jeff talking about that.
• 4:15
Speaker 6: Well, you know, when faith you the only thing people
• 4:20
Speaker 6: can tell you is no right. So if you have
• 4:24
Speaker 6: Lord gives you an idea, you just you go with it.
• 4:27
Speaker 6: And I was praying and the Lord gave me the
• 4:30
Speaker 6: idea to to to go and and just find out
• 4:34
Speaker 6: how much would it cost? How much you know what,
• 4:37
Speaker 6: what would it be like to do this? And this
• 4:40
Speaker 6: is the first crusade of its kind for our church.
• 4:44
Speaker 6: And uh, we just I came, I reached out to
• 4:47
Speaker 6: ladley Field, got the information and related back to Pastor Steve,
• 4:52
Speaker 6: and and we made it happen. Lord made it happen.
• 4:56
  Speaker 3: Well, that's that's awesome. I mean, it's a good idea
• 4:59
Speaker 3: and fear I mean because easy to get an idea,
• 5:01
Speaker 3: as you guys know, well we'll do this, and then
• 5:03
Speaker 3: it comes down to little things like oh well we
• 5:06
Speaker 3: got to have this get we got to get this
• 5:08
Speaker 3: contract taken care of, and we got to have a
• 5:09
Speaker 3: sponsor to take care of this. There's a lot more
• 5:11
Speaker 3: that goes into it than just having an event.
• 5:13
Speaker 5: Right yeah, right, yeah, And then you know, of course
• 5:16
Speaker 5: the risk you take is anybody going to show up,
• 5:17
Speaker 5: But we're believing that a bunch of people are going
• 5:19
Speaker 5: to show up, and that's why we're so thankful to
• 5:21
Speaker 5: be on here. Invite all your listeners, everybody out there,
• 5:23
Speaker 5: please show up six o'clock Latelyfield this Saturday. It's going
• 5:27
Speaker 5: to be a great time.
• 5:28
Speaker 3: And as I said, you know, the weather starting to
• 5:30
Speaker 3: look for me. I know you've probably been watching. I
• 5:32
Speaker 3: saw you after talking to Brian Hughes a little bit earlier.
• 5:34
Speaker 3: So it looks like that by the time Saturday, there's
• 5:37
Speaker 3: only a slight chance of rain on Saturday, but so
• 5:39
Speaker 3: it shouldn't be a rain out and we've had enough
• 5:41
Speaker 3: of that here in Charleston. Yes, so we don't need
• 5:43
Speaker 3: any of that. Talk about the how you were able
• 5:46
Speaker 3: to secure all these things. I mean, y'all obviously had
• 5:48
Speaker 3: to have a buy in from the community and from
• 5:50
Speaker 3: the corporate you know, the corporate folks to be able
• 5:52
Speaker 3: to pull this off.
• 5:53
Speaker 5: Yeah, well really it was it was Jeff that talked
• 5:56
Speaker 5: to the managers at Laidley Field and just let them
• 6:00
Speaker 5: know that we'd like to have it. There was a
• 6:03
Speaker 5: particular date that came to me and I thought, well,
• 6:05
Speaker 5: you know, if it's available to twenty second, let's go
• 6:07
Speaker 5: for it. And it was. And uh so, yeah, I mean,
• 6:11
Speaker 5: we haven't thankfully encountered anything but just positivity. I mean,
• 6:14
Speaker 5: just everybody's been great to work with, helpful. As far
• 6:18
Speaker 5: as the actual giveaways themselves, the generous great people from
• 6:24
Speaker 5: Victory Church have have sponsored that.
• 6:25
Speaker 3: Now, where is your church?
• 6:26
Speaker 5: Ripley? Okay, yep, Ripley, West Virginia.
• 6:29
Speaker 3: Okay, so but okay, I wasn't aware that it was
• 6:32
Speaker 3: that far away. But I mean you guys were bringing
• 6:34
Speaker 3: it here because I mean lately feels a pretty big facility,
• 6:36
Speaker 3: So I know, the kind of crowd that you're expecting.
• 6:39
Speaker 3: I don't know that you could probably do this at
• 6:41
  Speaker 3: Ripley necessarily.
• 6:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, probably not, you know, And we've done a ton
• 6:45
Speaker 5: of things and always do things that you know at
• 6:47
Speaker 5: our church in Ripley, but we'd never really stretched out
• 6:50
Speaker 5: to do, you know, try to do something big in Charleston,
• 6:54
Speaker 5: and so we thought, you know what, this is our state.
• 6:56
Speaker 5: We want to like, we want to be a blessing.
• 7:01
Speaker 5: I mean, I have a heart for the state of
• 7:03
Speaker 5: West Virginia. I love West Virginia. We all do. And
• 7:05
Speaker 5: we're from here in Charleston, and so if we can
• 7:09
Speaker 5: just bring some hope, some encouragement, some help to this area,
• 7:14
Speaker 5: then man, that's what we want to do.
• 7:15
Speaker 3: It sounds like it's going to be a very interesting
• 7:17
Speaker 3: thing because it's you know, it's gonna be obviously the
• 7:21
Speaker 3: church aspect of it, but there's also a lot of fun.
• 7:23
Speaker 3: And not saying the church can't be fun, don't get
• 7:25
Speaker 3: me wrong, but I'm just saying there there's gonna be
• 7:27
Speaker 3: a lot of fun involved in this as well, with
• 7:29
Speaker 3: inflatables and everything else you got going.
• 7:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that's the whole thing we want to
• 7:33
Speaker 5: I mean, as far as the faith aspect, I mean, yes,
• 7:38
  Speaker 5: I mean, I believe there's hope in Jesus Christ. I
• 7:40
Speaker 5: believe there's eternal life in Christ, and we're going to
• 7:43
Speaker 5: share that. But in a non like we don't beat
• 7:46
Speaker 5: people down. God came to lift us up, and so
• 7:48
Speaker 5: it's gonna be great. For everybody. But there is going
• 7:50
Speaker 5: to be a lot of fun and and you know,
• 7:55
Speaker 5: we'll also have a portable baptism. Somebody joked online, are
• 7:58
Speaker 5: you going to be baptizing in the chem cool wherever
• 8:00
Speaker 5: it's like where I don't know where that came from.
• 8:02
Speaker 5: But no, we're gonna have fresh, clean water available if
• 8:05
Speaker 5: somebody wants to get baptized, and uh, and we'll be
• 8:09
Speaker 5: offering prayer for people too.
• 8:12
Speaker 3: And you got live music too, live.
• 8:13
Speaker 5: Music, yeah, I mean, and it's it's gonna be just
• 8:16
Speaker 5: a good time, no strings attached, completely free to the community,
• 8:18
Speaker 5: free parking, free everything. Just come bring your family and
• 8:22
Speaker 5: it'll be a great time for the kids and great
• 8:25
  Speaker 5: time for you.
• 8:25
Speaker 3: Said. The first thousand people get a free Chick fil A.
• 8:28
Speaker 5: Same, that's the plan.
• 8:30
  Speaker 3: That's a lot of Chick fil A.
• 8:31
Speaker 5: Yes, it sure is. But they've been cooperative. They're going
• 8:33
Speaker 5: to be bringing their truck there.
• 8:34
Speaker 3: And yeah, so and now you know, school started in
• 8:39
Speaker 3: Kanawah County from almost all kanaw County. Few the schools
• 8:42
Speaker 3: you didn't get to start yesterday because of you know,
• 8:44
Speaker 3: the flooding and whatnot, But school started yesterday in Knawh
• 8:47
Speaker 3: County starts on Monday in Putnam County and just mentioned
• 8:50
Speaker 3: those counties for example. So I mean this a great
• 8:55
Speaker 3: event for the family to come out, I'm kind of
• 8:57
Speaker 3: you know, and with their kids, with their friends and
• 9:00
Speaker 3: so on and so forth.
• 9:01
Speaker 5: Yes, yes, absolutely, And we've been hearing a ton of
• 9:03
Speaker 5: people that are saying that exact thing. They're you know,
• 9:05
Speaker 5: teams are coming out and students and everything. So it's
• 9:09
  Speaker 5: a it's a great time, especially you know, as you're
• 9:11
Speaker 5: heading back into this one.
• 9:13
Speaker 3: I would think too that a lot of the churches
• 9:15
Speaker 3: you know in the area may want to bring their
• 9:17
  Speaker 3: youth groups and.
• 9:18
Speaker 5: Things that would be that'd be awesome. I mean, everybody
• 9:20
Speaker 5: is everybody is welcome. This isn't just like a victory
• 9:24
Speaker 5: church thing that we're sponsoring. We're hosting it, but it's
• 9:27
Speaker 5: a community event. Everybody's welcome, all churches are welcome, and
• 9:31
Speaker 5: we'd love just the more the merrier.
• 9:33
Speaker 3: It's called the Capital City Bashing Again. It's happening in
• 9:35
Speaker 3: Ladleyfield and Charleston Saturday evening, doors open at six o'clock,
• 9:38

• 9:50
Speaker 3: But if larger groups are coming, do they need to
• 9:52
Speaker 3: let you know ahead of time or just show up?

Speaker 5: Just show up. I think we'll have plenty of space
• 9:56
  Speaker 5: for you.
• 9:57

Speaker 4: the substitute that used to be Saint Jude.
• 13:56
Speaker 3: Which we always gave to that as well.
• 14:00
Speaker 4: Kind of I like this a little bit better just
• 14:03
Speaker 4: because it's got that local flavor.
• 14:04
Speaker 5: So it's through WVU.
• 14:06
Speaker 4: But yeah, we try to give every year and we're
• 14:09
Speaker 4: given this year too, and just glad to help. It's
• 14:12
Speaker 4: not given enough for a regime change up there or
• 14:14
Speaker 4: build a new building, but you know, every little bit
• 14:17
Speaker 4: helps and we like to contribute to the extent we can.
• 14:20
Speaker 4: We try and contribute to everything you guys do here.
• 14:22
Speaker 4: You know, kudos to the radio station for a Red
• 14:25
Speaker 4: Cross Union mission. You have a lot of charities where
• 14:29
Speaker 4: you guys devote your time and sometimes we don't know
• 14:32
Speaker 4: it's happened until we get here for our show, but
• 14:34
  Speaker 4: we always try.
• 14:34
Speaker 3: When you don't have a place to park on the
• 14:35
Speaker 3: parking lot, that's right.
• 14:36
Speaker 4: Bought turkeys, I think for Union mission and gave some
• 14:39
Speaker 4: money to Red Cross, So we try and help every time,
• 14:41
  Speaker 4: and this one's.
• 14:44
Speaker 3: You know, it's really important.
• 14:45
Speaker 4: I think it's nice, you know, if you have kids,
• 14:48
Speaker 4: and there's nothing worse than having your kids sick, especially
• 14:52
Speaker 4: if it's something serious. We've been blessed in our family
• 14:54
Speaker 4: and two kids are in their twenties and only had
• 14:56
Speaker 4: normal kids stuff like broken arms and things like that,
• 14:59
Speaker 4: but real serious illnesses or or injuries. But if you
• 15:04
Speaker 4: if you have something serious with your kids, you know,
• 15:07
Speaker 4: it's nice to have a facility in Morgantown where you
• 15:10
Speaker 4: can kind of keep it local. You know, it's two
• 15:14
Speaker 4: and a half hours from here, but you still as
• 15:16
Speaker 4: a West Virginia and if you're living here, you feel
• 15:17
Speaker 4: a little more comfortable, I think being in state versus
• 15:20
Speaker 4: having to go somewhere across the country to get treatments.
• 15:22
Speaker 4: So it's kind of a drop in the block of
• 15:24
Speaker 4: what we give, but every little bit helps. If we
• 15:25
Speaker 4: can get some other people to give, then you know
• 15:29
Speaker 4: it's only going to improve things.
• 15:31
Speaker 3: And again, you can text the word WVU Kids to
• 15:35
Speaker 3: three four nine eight four. Can text the word WVU
• 15:37
Speaker 3: Kids to three four nine eighty four. All as I said,
• 15:41
Speaker 3: all of our station websites have information on there. I
• 15:43
Speaker 3: was checking it out earlier today and there's also links
• 15:46
Speaker 3: to donate via credit or debit card, PayPal, Apple pay
• 15:51
Speaker 3: or Venmo. And again, we could not do this without
• 15:54
Speaker 3: all of our corporate sponsors, and we have so many.
• 15:56
Speaker 3: We'll be telling you about them with the next couple
• 15:58
Speaker 3: of days. They'll pull this off. And it's to your
• 15:59
Speaker 3: point time, I think it is. And look, we had
• 16:02
Speaker 3: a great relationship with Saint Jude for a number of years.
• 16:04
Speaker 3: Fantastic organization. But when you put that WVU name in it,
• 16:07
Speaker 3: you know that it is staying in the Mountain State.
• 16:10
Speaker 3: But it's not only helping kids in the Mountain State,
• 16:12
Speaker 3: because there's few kids from all over that come in,
• 16:15
Speaker 3: but such a large percentage of the kids that are
• 16:20
Speaker 3: treated there are from the Kanaw Valley and our in
• 16:23
Speaker 3: our listening foot print here at WVRC Media Charleston.
• 16:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, to be able to stay in West Virginia, I
• 16:28
Speaker 4: mean most people have been to Morgantown, they live around here,
• 16:32
Speaker 4: and so it gives you some comfortability factor versus going
• 16:34
Speaker 4: to you know, Cleveland's NATA or something like that, which
• 16:39
Speaker 4: I you know, the Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Cleveland Clinic.
• 16:42
Speaker 3: Those are top notchs facilities. I've been there.
• 16:43
Speaker 4: But it's also you get out of your comfort level
• 16:46
Speaker 4: when you got to go in big cities like that,
• 16:48
Speaker 4: and so this gives you know, an opportunity to have
• 16:51
Speaker 4: some comfort level going to to Morgantown. So we're yeah,
• 16:56
Speaker 4: ga to Glad to help and we'll continue to do
• 16:58
Speaker 4: it in the future.
• 17:00
Speaker 3: All right. So I do this every time that I
• 17:02
Speaker 3: have one of our sponsors on because you're good enough
• 17:04
Speaker 3: to put up your money and you spend a lot
• 17:06
Speaker 3: of money with us, and we have a great relationship
• 17:08
Speaker 3: with you. But I want to talk about the Peyton
• 17:10
Speaker 3: Law Firm for a moment. Whatever you talk about, to
• 17:12
Speaker 3: give you a chance, Glad to play ourselves to sell
• 17:15
Speaker 3: your law firm. So go ahead, tell me how long's
• 17:18
Speaker 3: Peyon Law Firm been in business?
• 17:19
Speaker 4: Oh gosh, Well, Dad started practicing in nineteen seventy four
• 17:22
Speaker 4: and had an office in Nitro since the late seventies.
• 17:26
Speaker 4: In ninety four he built the building we're in now,
• 17:31
Speaker 4: which is a standalone building. And then of course I
• 17:33
Speaker 4: got out of law school in No. One and started practicing.
• 17:36
Speaker 4: So we've been doing it for a long time. You
• 17:39
Speaker 4: combine our years of hen you're making me feel old. Well,
• 17:42
Speaker 4: you started, you were a child lawyer. You started when
• 17:44
Speaker 4: you were five. Well, probably because when your dad is
• 17:47
Speaker 4: a is a is a trial lawyer, you tend to
• 17:50
Speaker 4: be toted around. I was actually sitting in courtrooms watching,
• 17:55
Speaker 4: you know, from probably the time I was ten years old,
• 17:57
Speaker 4: because when you have time with your dad, it's like, well,
• 17:59
Speaker 4: we got to go to this, you know. I remember
• 18:02
Speaker 4: sitting there and watching and things so and being around
• 18:04
  Speaker 4: the law office.
• 18:05
Speaker 3: That's just you kind of love it good or bad.
• 18:08
Speaker 4: But yeah, we've been around for a long time, writing
• 18:10
Speaker 4: Nitro convenient location if you you know, kind of automobile accidents,
• 18:15
Speaker 4: injury cases, dispute with insurance companies on behalf ordinary people.
• 18:20
Speaker 4: We don't really do any big business work.
• 18:21
Speaker 3: We do a lot of.
• 18:22
Speaker 4: Decent amount of small business work, but most of the
• 18:25
Speaker 4: ordinary stuff that ordinary people need, but a lot of
• 18:28
Speaker 4: automobile accidents and insurance disputes. If you got any issues,
• 18:31
Speaker 4: feel free to give us a call. Our number at
• 18:33
Speaker 4: the office is three zero four seven five five five
• 18:37
Speaker 4: five five six. Excellent way to get Ahold of Us
• 18:39
Speaker 4: is through our website. You can send an email and
• 18:41
Speaker 4: that doesn't go to like a canned answering service or
• 18:44
Speaker 4: something like that. It goes to my email and dad's email,
• 18:47
Speaker 4: and then we try and respond same day. There's never
• 18:50
Speaker 4: any charge for initial contact with us. If you have
• 18:52
Speaker 4: a question about any particular legal issue, don't hesitate to
• 18:55
Speaker 4: reach out if it's something not in our wheelhouse. We've
• 18:57
Speaker 4: been around long enough to know who all your lawyers
• 19:00
Speaker 4: are around here that might be able to help you
• 19:02
Speaker 4: in that particular field, so we can give you, give
• 19:05
Speaker 4: you a referral. But we, you know, don't do a
• 19:07
Speaker 4: lot of billboards or TV. We've done obviously a lot
• 19:10
Speaker 4: of radio advertising, and.
• 19:11
  Speaker 3: We appreciate that.
• 19:12
  Speaker 4: Well, it's it's effective and affordable, so there's a reason
• 19:14
Speaker 4: why we've done it. But you know, really, as far
• 19:18
Speaker 4: as putting money into a lot of TV commercials during
• 19:21
Speaker 4: the new news or whatever, we're mass billboard campaigns. Honestly,
• 19:26
Speaker 4: we made decision years ago to we'd rather some of
• 19:30
Speaker 4: it like this we get some some some recognition for.
• 19:32
Speaker 4: But we do give a lot around the community to
• 19:34
Speaker 4: sports teams and other community organizations just to kind of
• 19:37
Speaker 4: make things better and hope that folks, you know, if
• 19:40
Speaker 4: you have an issue. You know that he wants to
• 19:42
Speaker 4: be in a car wreck or have a family member
• 19:43
Speaker 4: hurt or But if you are, maybe you'll consider us
• 19:48
Speaker 4: versus the folks that have all the billboards and TV
• 19:51
Speaker 4: commercials all over the place. We'll do a good job
• 19:54
Speaker 4: if you hire us. Trust me.
• 19:55
Speaker 3: Now, you said that you know growing up with your
• 19:57
Speaker 3: dad that you were, you were in courtrooms at ten
• 19:59
Speaker 3: years old and so on and so for. Did you
• 20:01
Speaker 3: ever give any thought to doing anything else?
• 20:03
  Speaker 11: Oh?
• 20:04
Speaker 4: Yeah, well I was not going to be a lawyer. Actually, Uh,
• 20:08
Speaker 4: folks probably find this strange, but I was more of
• 20:11
Speaker 4: a science guy growing up. And of course in the
• 20:14
Speaker 4: eight I was I'm turning fifty next month, so you know,
• 20:18
Speaker 4: growing up in the eighties, I was actually like, I
• 20:20
Speaker 4: liked reptiles and amphibians. For whatever reason, I was gonna
• 20:23
Speaker 4: be a herpetologist. Went to Marshall and was doing They
• 20:26
Speaker 4: had a really good program there. Actually the lead professor
• 20:29
Speaker 4: in the state on reptiles amphibians, Professor Paul, was there.
• 20:33
Speaker 4: But got into biology and started having to take inorganic chemistry,
• 20:37
Speaker 4: and I thought, well, this isn't I wanted to go
• 20:39
Speaker 4: out in the jungles and look at snakes and stuff.
• 20:41
  Speaker 5: I don't want to.
• 20:42
Speaker 4: I don't understand this, so then that sounds just horrible, Tom.
• 20:46
Speaker 4: It does actually have a there's a pet snake in
• 20:49
Speaker 4: my office if you ever come in and you can
• 20:51
Speaker 4: check it out. It's neat. But at any event, now
• 20:55
Speaker 4: I met my wife, you know, things just changed and
• 20:58
Speaker 4: I felt like I had a leg out to practice
• 21:01
Speaker 4: law and it came natural to me. So I switched
• 21:03
Speaker 4: gears when I was probably a sophomore at Marshall and
• 21:06
Speaker 4: switched over to political signs and legal studies and then
• 21:10
Speaker 4: went to Morgantown for law school and went from there.
• 21:15
Speaker 3: Well have you been doing it ever since?
• 21:16
  Speaker 1: Now?
• 21:16
Speaker 3: As far as the radio show goes, what do you
• 21:19
Speaker 3: know what year that started? That the nineteen as your
• 21:22
Speaker 3: dad started. I know that we signed the car.
• 21:24
  Speaker 5: I didn't.
• 21:25
Speaker 4: I started law school in ninety eight, but our contract
• 21:28
Speaker 4: with to do Ask the Lawyer's Show was nineteen ninety eight.
• 21:31
Speaker 4: The first show might have been January nineteen ninety nine.
• 21:33
Speaker 4: And we've done it every every Thursday. Every Thursday, you know,
• 21:37
Speaker 4: even if we're out of town, we almost always try
• 21:41
Speaker 4: to have one of the two of us call in.
• 21:42
Speaker 4: So yeah, if you want to listen in every Thursday
• 21:44
Speaker 4: morning at eight twenty. You can text in or call
• 21:48
Speaker 4: in with questions, and we like to get texts and questions.
• 21:51
Speaker 4: But we as you know, we don't really have trouble fill.
• 21:54
  Speaker 6: In the air.
• 21:55
Speaker 3: We can. We have the gift of gab.
• 21:58
Speaker 4: You know, to get through it. But yeah, we've done
• 22:00
Speaker 4: it every Thursday for gosh, it's now twenty I guess
• 22:03
Speaker 4: it'll be twenty seven years.
• 22:05
Speaker 3: You can go back and listen in case you miss it.
• 22:07
Speaker 3: You know, we want people to listen.
• 22:08
  Speaker 12: To the others.
• 22:09
Speaker 3: But you guys have a podcast usually within about thirty
• 22:11
  Speaker 3: minutes or so.
• 22:11
Speaker 4: I see it on Facebook being shared and we actually
• 22:14
Speaker 4: if you go to our website Peyton Lawfirm dot com,
• 22:16
Speaker 4: we have a direct hyperlink tab to the radio station.
• 22:20
Speaker 4: It takes your right to our various show podcasts. You
• 22:24
Speaker 4: can go back and listen if you want to hear
• 22:26
Speaker 4: what we said. But you know, if you have a question,
• 22:28
Speaker 4: you can call us anytime at the office or send
• 22:30
Speaker 4: an email. In this day and age, I get emails,
• 22:33
Speaker 4: or you can leave a voicemail and it goes right
• 22:35
Speaker 4: to me on a voice file to my phone. So
• 22:36
Speaker 4: we're pretty much are twenty four seven operators other than
• 22:39
  Speaker 4: when we're we're sleeping, but we don't use We don't
• 22:43
Speaker 4: use answering services or can things. When you call or
• 22:46
Speaker 4: you leave a voicemail or you send an email, it's
• 22:48
Speaker 4: coming right to the actual lawyers that would be handling
• 22:51
  Speaker 4: your case.
• 22:52
Speaker 3: Well, Tom Payton, to the Peyton Law Firm. We appreciate
• 22:54
Speaker 3: you helping us out here with our radiothon. You Gas
• 22:58
Speaker 3: are always the first one to step up in the community.
• 23:00
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 23:00
Speaker 3: As far as our advertisers, we've got a lot of
• 23:02
Speaker 3: great advertisers and great community sponsors and of course, while
• 23:04
Speaker 3: we say, the greatest listeners in the world as well.
• 23:07
Speaker 3: And I appreciate you being here not only for this,
• 23:09
Speaker 3: but also today is National Radio Day. That's why our
• 23:12
Speaker 3: good friend Leslie Rubin from the West Virginia Broadcasters Association
• 23:15
Speaker 3: is here. She's recording some things, so don't be surprised
• 23:18
Speaker 3: if she doesn't hitch you up for an interview. She
• 23:20
  Speaker 3: hasn't already.
• 23:21
Speaker 4: Well, I'm always up for an interview. There you go.
• 23:23
Speaker 4: No better place to be the best radio station in
• 23:25
  Speaker 4: the state.
• 23:26
Speaker 3: So there you go.
• 23:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, and we appreciate you guys putting these on. Yeah,
• 23:30
Speaker 4: absolutely regular charitable things and that's that's well.
• 23:34
Speaker 3: I mean, we'll take notice, and not to be corny,
• 23:36
Speaker 3: but we kind of take that, you know, that tagline
• 23:38
Speaker 3: that we've used the last couple of years. Proud to
• 23:40
Speaker 3: live here too. We're a West Virginia based company. We
• 23:42
Speaker 3: believe in giving back to West Virginia. So Tom Payton,
• 23:44

Speaker 3: Helping you understand your environment because what you don't know
• 27:12
Speaker 3: can hurt you. We have our WVRC Media Cares for
• 27:15
Speaker 3: Kids Radiothon continuing and Logan Scott from our sister station
• 27:20
Speaker 3: V one hundred had a chance to sit down with
• 27:22
Speaker 3: some of the people making the difference in people's lives.
• 27:25
Speaker 15: It's the WVRC Media Cares for Kids. Radiothon Joining me
• 27:29
Speaker 15: is Amy Bush, CAO at WVU Medicine Galasano Children's. Now,
• 27:35
Speaker 15: it's been quite a year for the hospital as its
• 27:37
Speaker 15: transition to WVU Medicine Galasano Children's. Now, what does this
• 27:41
Speaker 15: growth mean for patients across the state.
• 27:43
Speaker 16: What a year. Indeed, last October when the official announcement
• 27:47
Speaker 16: came out of mister Golisano's generous gift, extremely exciting and
• 27:52
Speaker 16: grateful time as we continue to grow not only our
• 27:55
Speaker 16: children's hospital here in Morgantown, but bringing care closer to
• 27:59
Speaker 16: the home communities with our regional hospital partners and the
• 28:04
Speaker 16: clinics that we have across the state in the region,
• 28:08
Speaker 16: so that we can truly continue to help build healthier futures.
• 28:11
Speaker 16: We can make it easier on the families during you know,
• 28:14
Speaker 16: stressful times and also for things like wellness and preventative
• 28:18
Speaker 16: care that we want to make sure that we have
• 28:21
Speaker 16: close to home for the kids. So this gift just
• 28:23
Speaker 16: helps us continue on our path to build those healthier futures.
• 28:28
Speaker 15: Now, the team here is so dedicated to our kids
• 28:31
Speaker 15: and expectant mothers. What is it about them that makes
• 28:34
Speaker 15: WVU Medicine Galazano Children so special?
• 28:37
  Speaker 13: Now?
• 28:37
Speaker 16: I think the most important thing is our team works
• 28:41
Speaker 16: to deliver care in a manner that they would want
• 28:44
Speaker 16: for their own family and their own kids. We have
• 28:47
Speaker 16: this saying every day it's for the kids, and we
• 28:50
Speaker 16: just want to be that bright spot and helping the
• 28:53
Speaker 16: kids and their families more expectant moms navigate during the
• 28:57
Speaker 16: times where you know there's there's a new bird and
• 29:00
Speaker 16: hopefully all as well, and during times when unexpected things
• 29:04
Speaker 16: happen with illness. And so we have this saying we
• 29:07
Speaker 16: care big, and we want to make sure that we're
• 29:09
Speaker 16: taking care of those that entrust us with their care
• 29:12
Speaker 16: as we would our own family.
• 29:13
Speaker 15: The hospital may be in Morgantown, but WVU Medicine Galasano
• 29:17
Speaker 15: Children's continues to grow across the state. Why is it
• 29:20
Speaker 15: so important that the care reaches all of West Virginia
• 29:23
Speaker 15: and the surrounding region.
• 29:24
Speaker 16: What we know is when we can bring care closer
• 29:27
Speaker 16: to home, especially focusing on preventive and wellness, but also
• 29:30
Speaker 16: in times of illness, that when there's a need, it's
• 29:34
Speaker 16: also a stress on the families too, And so to
• 29:37
Speaker 16: the extent that we can help lessen the drive to
• 29:40
Speaker 16: get the same level of care and expertise, that is
• 29:44
Speaker 16: our goal. And so as we continue to expand our
• 29:47
Speaker 16: regional hubs at our larger system hospitals. We also want
• 29:51
Speaker 16: to make sure we're providing that care at our community
• 29:53
Speaker 16: hospitals so that access is there, it's the same, it's
• 29:57
Speaker 16: the same team, and it also flower that cost of
• 30:01
Speaker 16: travel and a time and the other stressors that families
• 30:04
  Speaker 16: just don't need.
• 30:05
Speaker 15: And what is the next step for WVU Medicine Galzano
• 30:08
Speaker 15: Children's to continue to expand care.
• 30:11
Speaker 16: We know we've got some really exciting things in the
• 30:14
Speaker 16: works right now. We are in the process of building
• 30:17
Speaker 16: out our remaining seven shelled beds from when we initially opened,
• 30:21
Speaker 16: so early winter we're going to be opening three additional
• 30:25
Speaker 16: beds and our NICU and for additional beds in our cardiac,
• 30:29
Speaker 16: petric contensive care epilepsy monitoring area. So that's right here,
• 30:34
Speaker 16: you know, on site, and you know, this past January
• 30:37
Speaker 16: we opened our new clinic on the tenth floor. We're
• 30:39
Speaker 16: also working on efforts to expand things in our surgical
• 30:43
Speaker 16: services service line and a lot of wonderful new faculty
• 30:48
Speaker 16: joining our hospital that are very sub specialized. Two new
• 30:52
Speaker 16: neurooncologists that just recently joined our teams that can help
• 30:56
Speaker 16: those kids in need of things like neurooncology. And then
• 30:59
Speaker 16: we continue to expand our presence with a new clinic
• 31:03
Speaker 16: that's going to be coming the start of the new year,
• 31:05
Speaker 16: and Wheeling that'll have imaging and lab and urgent care,
• 31:09
Speaker 16: pediatric specialty care. We continue to add to our services,
• 31:13
Speaker 16: and Charleston at Thomas Memorial Hospital and just numerous places
• 31:18
Speaker 16: that we are working to continue to you know, have
• 31:21
  Speaker 16: growth for the.
• 31:22
Speaker 15: Kids and for those listening at home, how do their
• 31:25
Speaker 15: donations make a difference for children who are receiving care?
• 31:29
Speaker 16: You know. So this is a fourth year of our
• 31:31
Speaker 16: radioson and we're grateful to all of you as our partners.
• 31:34
Speaker 16: And I would say every dollar helps, whether it's a
• 31:37
Speaker 16: gas card, it's a meal card, it's additional housing for
• 31:40
Speaker 16: families who have extended family who can't stay back, whether
• 31:44
Speaker 16: it's that next piece of special equipment or technology, or
• 31:48
Speaker 16: something specific like helping families with some other need that
• 31:52
Speaker 16: they might have during you know, a child's cancer treatment
• 31:55
Speaker 16: or whatever it might be. We put each of these
• 31:58
Speaker 16: dollars that we raise to great Youth and we just
• 32:01
Speaker 16: appreciate and you know, also things like childlife. We want
• 32:04
Speaker 16: to make things as normal as possible when they're here.
• 32:07
Speaker 16: So the events that we have for the kids, the
• 32:09
Speaker 16: football parties, the parades at holiday times, you know, Trigger Tree,
• 32:13
Speaker 16: all the things go into making this hospital here and
• 32:17
Speaker 16: around the state in the region what it is, and
• 32:20
Speaker 16: all these dollars go towards that.
• 32:22
Speaker 15: That's Amy Bush Cao at WVU Medicine Galasano Children's. This
• 32:28
Speaker 15: is the WVRC Media Cares for Kids Radiothon.
• 32:31
Speaker 3: That's Logan Scott of course from our sister station V
• 32:33
Speaker 3: one hundred. Logan's actually in Morgantown right now. He and
• 32:35
Speaker 3: Jenny Murray from V one hundred made the trip up
• 32:38
Speaker 3: there and we'll be hearing more from those guys and
• 32:40
Speaker 3: gals coming up over the next couple of days as
• 32:43
Speaker 3: we continue with our WVRC Media Cares for Kids radiothon
• 32:46
Speaker 3: today and tomorrow, raising money for the incredible support and
• 32:50
Speaker 3: just the incredible programs that are offered by WVU Medicine
• 32:53
Speaker 3: Galisano Children's. Now you may not know this, but now
• 32:57
Speaker 3: you do. Today's National Radio Day. As I said, somebody
• 33:02
Speaker 3: came up with the idea to celebrate us. So I
• 33:04
Speaker 3: want to welcome to the show now Leslie Rubin. Leslie
• 33:07
Speaker 3: is the head of the West Virginia Broadcast Association, role
• 33:10
Speaker 3: that she just stepped into after taking over for the great, awesome,
• 33:16
Speaker 3: wonderful Michelle christ who did such a good job for
• 33:19
Speaker 3: so many years. But Leslie's in the studio with us
• 33:21
Speaker 3: right now. Good morning, welcome to the show.
• 33:23
Speaker 2: Thank you for having me, Dave. Even though I kind
• 33:25
Speaker 2: of invited myself, you did, I guess.
• 33:27
Speaker 3: You did, so it's okay. Yeah. She sent me a
• 33:30
Speaker 3: text yesterday and said, Hey, tomorrow is National Radio Day.
• 33:35
Speaker 3: You mind if I come by and do some video
• 33:38
Speaker 3: And I'm looking forward to seeing it because you know,
• 33:40
Speaker 3: you've interviewed Chris, Lawrence and Daniel and I think you
• 33:43
Speaker 3: just talked to Tom Payton a couple of months ago.
• 33:45
  Speaker 3: You've been banded.
• 33:46
Speaker 2: I'm getting videos from the guys in Morgantown that are
• 33:48
Speaker 2: up at the radio run too.
• 33:50
Speaker 3: Right, And so you're buzzing around here, you know, I'm
• 33:52
Speaker 3: doing interviews and stuff, big shoes to fill with Michelle.
• 33:55
Speaker 2: Chris, I know, And god, don't you just love her?
• 33:59
  Speaker 3: Yeah, she's fantastic.
• 34:00
Speaker 2: So Michelle and I worked literally side by side from
• 34:05
Speaker 2: July first to July thirty first. We were together every
• 34:08
Speaker 2: day and I've tried to cram thirty years of knowledge
• 34:14
Speaker 2: in thirty days into my head and but she did
• 34:19
Speaker 2: a great job teaching me. So you know, I just
• 34:21
  Speaker 2: I know I have a lot to a big shoes
• 34:25
Speaker 2: to phill but I could not be more proud that
• 34:30
Speaker 2: she trusts me to do it. So I'm excited.
• 34:33
Speaker 3: And what exactly does the Western Deinian Broadcasters Association do
• 34:38
Speaker 3: for those for those that are outside the business.
• 34:40
Speaker 2: What well I have to explain it to sometimes even
• 34:42
Speaker 2: people in the business, you know. So we are made
• 34:45
Speaker 2: up of TV and radio stations across the state are members,
• 34:51
Speaker 2: you know, that's you guys, that's you know, other radio stations,
• 34:55
Speaker 2: all of the TV stations, and we work for you.
• 34:59
Speaker 2: We're advocate, we want to get you training, we want
• 35:03
Speaker 2: to make sure your voices are heard at the Capitol.
• 35:06
Speaker 2: When there's issues that come up that can affect anything
• 35:11
Speaker 2: that you do over the year, from advertising, drone usage
• 35:15
Speaker 2: that's a big thing you know that is being used. Well,
• 35:19
Speaker 2: there's there's just legislation sometimes that's passed around that could
• 35:25
Speaker 2: not be beneficial for news drones, you know, drones that
• 35:28
Speaker 2: are out there cover and we've got those all the
• 35:30
Speaker 2: team stations have one and so something like that. There's
• 35:35
Speaker 2: just so many little things that come up that you
• 35:37
Speaker 2: don't realize, you know, are can affect broadcasters. And we're
• 35:41
Speaker 2: here to make sure your voices are heard and do
• 35:45
Speaker 2: everything that we can to get you the resources that
• 35:47
Speaker 2: you need and you know, advocate for you. That's and
• 35:53
Speaker 2: I could not be more happy to do.
• 35:55
  Speaker 5: So.
• 35:56
Speaker 2: I just absolutely love West Virginia. But West Virginia broadcasting,
• 36:01
  Speaker 2: I mean it's just it's I love it. I love
• 36:03
Speaker 2: everything about radio and TV, especially in the state.
• 36:06
Speaker 3: Of course, you were, you know, on w c HS television.
• 36:09
Speaker 3: No relation, uh for I have to say that.
• 36:12
Speaker 2: I know, get confused.
• 36:13
Speaker 3: Well i'll tell you. Do you remember the whole Jimmy
• 36:15
  Speaker 3: Kimmel thing.
• 36:16
Speaker 2: Oh yes, and I know you all just.
• 36:19
Speaker 3: Got lown up over threatening messages about you know, Jimmy Kimmel,
• 36:23
Speaker 3: and I was like, we have no relationships.
• 36:26
Speaker 2: I'd be the one answering this, not that was me.
• 36:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but but no we are. We are not related.
• 36:32
Speaker 3: But good folks over there, and you spent a lot
• 36:34
Speaker 3: of time there. That's where most people are going to
• 36:36
Speaker 3: know you from that you're a West Virginia native. Right,
• 36:38
Speaker 3: all right, tell us your tell us your story.
• 36:40
Speaker 2: Well, I was born in Buchanan, but I only lived
• 36:42
Speaker 2: there charless about six and then just for a really
• 36:45
Speaker 2: short period of time. My dad's an oil and gas
• 36:48
Speaker 2: so we moved to Houston, Texas, but we came back
• 36:50
Speaker 2: to Charleston, and that's where he's from. My mom's from
• 36:53
Speaker 2: Clay County, and that's where I've been ever since. I
• 36:56
Speaker 2: did go to school at WVU. Then I went to
• 36:59
Speaker 2: w d TV in Clarksburg for two years, and all
• 37:02
Speaker 2: I wanted to do was come home and be a
• 37:05
Speaker 2: reporter in my hometown. I never really had the I
• 37:08
Speaker 2: want to grow and go to bigger markets and you know,
• 37:11
Speaker 2: do all of that stuff that a lot of people
• 37:13
Speaker 2: on TV do. I just wanted to be home. I
• 37:16
Speaker 2: love West Virginia so much. I could never imagine living
• 37:19
Speaker 2: somewhere else. And I can't imagine being a journalist anywhere
• 37:23
Speaker 2: else because you have to care about the stories that
• 37:25
Speaker 2: you're telling, and I'm not sure that I would care
• 37:29
  Speaker 2: like I do.
• 37:30
Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, And it's and I can I can totally
• 37:32
Speaker 3: relate to that because, you know, while all of our
• 37:36
Speaker 3: reporters radio and television, you know, do a fantastic job.
• 37:40
Speaker 3: It's just when you, when you actually invested in the area,
• 37:43
Speaker 3: I think you'll do a little bit better job. And
• 37:45
Speaker 3: I was like, that's not the fault of them.
• 37:47
Speaker 2: No, if you're not from here and you want to
• 37:49
Speaker 2: be here and you want to tell.
• 37:50
Speaker 3: Our stories, come with people that have come here and
• 37:53
Speaker 3: chosen to stay here.
• 37:54
  Speaker 2: It's that.
• 37:55
Speaker 3: I love that that dingy co host of mine in
• 37:57
Speaker 3: the afternoon is one of those people right there. Now,
• 37:59
Speaker 3: A man you know is not from here. I know,
• 38:03
Speaker 3: but she worked here a number of years, went back
• 38:05
Speaker 3: up yeah, back home to Cleveland, and then decided she
• 38:08
Speaker 3: wanted to be back here.
• 38:09
Speaker 2: That happens so often, And I don't love those stories
• 38:14
Speaker 2: because you do kind of realize once from what I've heard,
• 38:18
Speaker 2: I mean, I've not experienced that, but once you leave
• 38:20
  Speaker 2: your life.
• 38:21
Speaker 3: Man, I want to go back exactly. We're talking to
• 38:24
Speaker 3: Leslie Uben Westterrnginia Badcasters Association on National Radio Day to
• 38:28
Speaker 3: Dave Allen Show on five eighty line, broad to you
• 38:30
Speaker 3: in part by Hustin's Pizza. This month, get a large
• 38:33
Speaker 3: at Niche Pepperoni pizza and an eight inch chocolate chip cookie.
• 38:35
Speaker 3: Twenty three ninety nine Find your local husbands for delivery,
• 38:38
Speaker 3: pick up her Dining, and Huston's Pizza dot com. Do
• 38:40
Speaker 3: you ever do any any radio for any length of time?
• 38:43
Speaker 3: I asked that because a lot of people when they
• 38:46
Speaker 3: study broadcasting, do a little bit of television, do a
• 38:48
Speaker 3: little bit of radio. Did you ever do any radio
• 38:51
Speaker 3: for an amount of time?
• 38:52
Speaker 2: Nope, only time I've been on the radios here.
• 38:54
Speaker 3: Oh really, wasn't part of your studies at WU?
• 38:57
  Speaker 17: Then?
• 38:57
Speaker 2: No, we had a radio station there unit need to,
• 39:00
Speaker 2: but I was not involved with them. I just sick
• 39:02
Speaker 2: strictly did TV stuff. So anything I know about radio
• 39:07
Speaker 2: I've learned through the association and coming here and talking,
• 39:11
Speaker 2: you know, and being a guest on your all shows
• 39:14
Speaker 2: and yeah, or well actually I used to be. This
• 39:18
Speaker 2: is an embarrassing story. Do you have time like thirty
• 39:20
Speaker 2: seconds for this? So you know what radio? When I
• 39:24
Speaker 2: was grown up, that's when you put the cassette in
• 39:26
Speaker 2: and you record your songs, because that's you.
• 39:28
Speaker 3: Know, the only I know where this is going. Go ahead, Okay, So.
• 39:34
Speaker 2: I was that annoying teenager that's calling the radio station
• 39:38
Speaker 2: trying to be like caller thirteen, or can you send
• 39:41
Speaker 2: a song out to my best friend Christine, so I
• 39:46
Speaker 2: know they were probably sicking me.
• 39:49
Speaker 3: Look as I will say this too, I knew I
• 39:53
Speaker 3: wanted to do this from the time I was like
• 39:55
Speaker 3: five or six years old. I wanted to be on
• 39:57
Speaker 3: the radio. And the story I have told is that
• 40:01
Speaker 3: my radio was always on in my house growing up,
• 40:03
Speaker 3: or in the car or whatever my grandparents and I
• 40:05
Speaker 3: went to Beckley, uh and they're one of the stations there.
• 40:08
Speaker 3: I don't even know who it was. Fred Pursinger swears
• 40:10
Speaker 3: it wasn't him. I don't know, but somebody was doing
• 40:12
Speaker 3: a live broadcast at a hardware store where it was
• 40:15
Speaker 3: a culmination of a giant prize giveaway and like it
• 40:18
Speaker 3: had to be present to win. They were giving away
• 40:20
Speaker 3: the chainsaw or something, I don't know what it was.
• 40:22
Speaker 3: And I thought, that is the coolest job in the
• 40:25
Speaker 3: world right there, what that guy is doing, That's what
• 40:27
Speaker 3: I want to do. And I was so obsessed with it.
• 40:31
Speaker 3: And here's where I thought you were going with the
• 40:32
Speaker 3: cassette story. People of my generation, when a lot of
• 40:37
Speaker 3: my people would they would record songs off the radio,
• 40:39
Speaker 3: but try not to get the radio announcer. They would
• 40:42
Speaker 3: try not that I'm sorry I was getting the radio announcer.
• 40:46
  Speaker 3: I couldn't care left about the songs I wanted. I
• 40:48
Speaker 3: wanted to I would stop it when the song came on.
• 40:51
Speaker 3: You know, I wanted to get the actual announcer.
• 40:55
Speaker 2: And I that's the coolest story out And I could tell.
• 40:58
Speaker 3: You every announcer that was on because I grew up
• 41:01
Speaker 3: in Logan. But we got a lot of the radios
• 41:03
Speaker 3: that we got. All the Charleston stations came in clear,
• 41:05
Speaker 3: all the Huntings and stations, Beckley, Bluefield. Of course my
• 41:07
Speaker 3: hometown Logan, Williamson, Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Kentucky. We had all those radio.
• 41:12
Speaker 3: Plus when I got, you know, a real fancy radio
• 41:15
Speaker 3: and could listen to Woe Woe out of Fort Wayne, Indiana,
• 41:18
Speaker 3: and WSB in Atlanta and KDKA and Pittsburgh. I really
• 41:22
Speaker 3: became obsessed with it then. And I will say this, leslie.
• 41:26
Speaker 3: There are constantly reports out there that radio is dying.
• 41:31
Speaker 3: They said the same thing when TV came around of
• 41:34
Speaker 3: the late nineteen forties and early nineteen fifties.
• 41:36
Speaker 2: Raised I got some stats. You want me to read
• 41:37
Speaker 2: it or did you already poll?
• 41:39
  Speaker 6: No?
• 41:39
Speaker 3: No, I didn't have these stats. I just wanted to
• 41:41
Speaker 3: say that the way radio survived when television first became
• 41:45
Speaker 3: a thing in the late forties and early fifties was
• 41:47
Speaker 3: they evolved. They got away from the from the serials
• 41:51
Speaker 3: and you know, the dramas and comedies and things like that.
• 41:56
Speaker 3: And so I mean now and you've got the stats.
• 41:59
Speaker 3: I didn't know you were to do this.
• 42:00
Speaker 2: Well, I hadn't planned on it, but you know, I
• 42:02
  Speaker 2: just got them.
• 42:03
Speaker 3: People still listen to radio as much as they ever did.
• 42:06
Speaker 3: What's changed is the way that it's consumed. And there's
• 42:09
Speaker 3: a certain crossover with television on that as well, especially
• 42:13
Speaker 3: with talk radio. The majority of people are listening by streaming,
• 42:17
Speaker 3: and a lot of times they're not even listening live.
• 42:19
Speaker 3: I mean though, I mean all of our shows are podcasts.
• 42:22
Speaker 3: I have people that tell me, oh, I listened to
• 42:25
Speaker 3: your nine o'clock show at nine o'clock at night when
• 42:27
Speaker 3: I'm taking a walk around the next round.
• 42:29
Speaker 2: That's how you've evolved, because now somebody is able to
• 42:32
Speaker 2: listen to you at nine o'clock at night, and that's
• 42:34
Speaker 2: you know, that's just what we.
• 42:35
  Speaker 13: Have to do.
• 42:36
Speaker 3: All right, what kind of stats of you guys?
• 42:37
Speaker 2: All right, here we go AMFM radio remains the nation's
• 42:40
Speaker 2: media reach leader, reaching eighty seven percent of US adults
• 42:45
Speaker 2: on a weekly basis. This was the first quarter of
• 42:48
Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. That's what that information came from. It
• 42:51
Speaker 2: outpaces every other platform that Nielsen measured, including smartphone apps,
• 42:56
Speaker 2: connected TV devices, and traditional television. Eighty seven.
• 43:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, I saw that.
• 43:02
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 43:02
Speaker 3: Had I known that many people were listening, I would
• 43:03
Speaker 3: address better. Tony the Taytlor takes care of me though.
• 43:07
Speaker 3: All right, well, we appreciate you coming in here and
• 43:10
Speaker 3: joining us here on National Radio Day. And so you've
• 43:13
Speaker 3: been filming and doing stuff. So where can people see that?
• 43:16
Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to work on a social media video
• 43:19
Speaker 2: and I'm going to post it on the West Virginia
• 43:21
Speaker 2: Broadcasters Association Facebook page, which I have been trying to grow.
• 43:25
Speaker 2: And I don't want just you know, radio and TV
• 43:27
Speaker 2: people on there. I want the community on there too,
• 43:29
Speaker 2: seeing what we're doing, seeing all the great stuff that
• 43:31
Speaker 2: broadcasters are doing for the community. I mean, look what
• 43:34
Speaker 2: you all did with the flood fundraising, you know, and
• 43:39
Speaker 2: the TV stations they do the same thing. We broadcasters
• 43:43
Speaker 2: do amazing work. We are part of the community and
• 43:46
Speaker 2: we want to help the community and inform the community.
• 43:49
Speaker 2: So I want the community to also be involved in
• 43:51
Speaker 2: that Facebook page. So anyone that's listening that wants to
• 43:53
Speaker 2: stop by, shoot it alike and you'll see the content
• 43:57
Speaker 2: that's coming out from you know, our wonderful memory B

Speaker 3: Systemsville done by non West Virginians. Congratulations on your new position.
• 48:33
Speaker 3: I will make sure that she hears that I had
• 48:37
Speaker 3: to tell you this. You know, a lot of time
• 48:39
Speaker 3: has been spent over the last twenty four to thirty
• 48:41
Speaker 3: six hours or so talking about Willy Acres. We spent
• 48:44
Speaker 3: a large segment of the show yesterday talking about Willy,
• 48:46
Speaker 3: of course, passing away Tuesday at the age of eighty nine.
• 48:50
Speaker 3: I just I got one more quickly Acre story I
• 48:53
Speaker 3: have to tell you, And we mentioned about Willie the coach,
• 48:57
Speaker 3: Willie the educator. He was an assistant super intended. He
• 49:00
Speaker 3: also took over the bowling alley and logan which was
• 49:04
Speaker 3: about to shut down and he and his wife Linda
• 49:06
Speaker 3: took it over just as to give the community something
• 49:09
Speaker 3: to do, and that was fantastic. But I will say
• 49:12
Speaker 3: this one one of my favorite Willie Acres stories came
• 49:16
Speaker 3: after he retired and we got together a charity basketball
• 49:22
Speaker 3: game and it was benefiting I think the Salvation Army
• 49:25
Speaker 3: or something like that. And this is when Billy Donovan
• 49:27
Speaker 3: was coaching at Marshall. So Billy Donovan brought down a
• 49:31
Speaker 3: team of Marshall you know, Hall of famers, all time
• 49:35
Speaker 3: great for Marshall, and Willy put together a team of
• 49:39
Speaker 3: Logan Wildcat legends and put him together. And if you
• 49:42
Speaker 3: knew Willy as a coach, he was a very, very
• 49:44
Speaker 3: fiery individual. As I was doing PA for the game,
• 49:48
Speaker 3: this was like in the mid nineties, I said, Billy
• 49:50
Speaker 3: Donovan was at Marshall. So that tells you how long
• 49:52
Speaker 3: ago it's been. So the referees bring the players out
• 49:56
Speaker 3: for the jump ball to start the game. Willie immediately
• 49:59
Speaker 3: picks up a chair and throws out on the court
• 50:00
Speaker 3: and gets the technical for no reason other than just
• 50:02
Speaker 3: it was for old time sake. And the referee looked
• 50:05
Speaker 3: at him and ted him up, and he just kind
• 50:07
Speaker 3: of bowed and went on. So I love it when
• 50:14
Speaker 3: Willie played. Was that during segregation? I mean, I'd have
• 50:18
Speaker 3: to look that up. I mean, he played for the
• 50:19
Speaker 3: national championship in nineteen fifty nine, and so I'm gonna
• 50:23
Speaker 3: think probably no, I don't know. I'll get you an
• 50:25
Speaker 3: answer on that coming up later today. Metro News, Midday
