Transcript
- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:11Farewell to Texas, motherfuckers.
- 0:17Welcome to What's Your Least Favorite Scary Movie?
- 0:19The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:22the absurd and all of our favorite.
- 0:24And least favorite scary movies because we believe every horror
- 0:26movie rightfully has this fan base.
- 0:28Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:31My name is Jesse. And we're concluding our Texas
- 0:35Chainsaw franchise this week. And you know what?
- 0:39Fuck it, we're doing it live. Doing it live, that's right.
- 0:43We were super busy this past weekend.
- 0:46We had scare. Fest Yeah, so we we have
- 0:48literally it is Wednesday night, my dudes.
- 0:52So you're getting us raw and unfiltered and unedited.
- 0:56So God help us all. Day before release, or day of if
- 1:01you're a patron. Like less than less than 12
- 1:04hours. Yeah, this will be up actually
- 1:05probably like 5 minutes after I. Well, for patrons, yeah, for,
- 1:09but for. For non patrons I don't know
- 1:13what I was going to say. This is going off the rails
- 1:16immediately. It's OK, we can't edit either
- 1:18because it's still live episodes, so let's just cut
- 1:20ourselves off, right? Here.
- 1:21Yeah, we're going to talk about the movies that we've been
- 1:23watching for the past week and a half.
- 1:24Yeah, we've got several to go over.
- 1:26So on the 12th it was my turn for a new one and I chose
- 1:30Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Yeah, Jesse went with the old
- 1:34school classic. We don't do those too often.
- 1:36We don't do those too often. I'm so glad we did that one.
- 1:39It is a really good movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:42High potential to be covered on the show at some point.
- 1:44OK, so. On the 13th we actually went to
- 1:49Regal, was a couple of friends of ours and saw a movie we'd
- 1:52never seen before, Silver Bullet.
- 1:53Silver bullet, yeah. That was fun, and I'm just gonna
- 1:57say it. I have said it to everybody
- 1:59that's asking my opinion on the movie.
- 2:01Gary Busey perfect casting his Uncle Red.
- 2:04Yeah, for real. Beautiful.
- 2:05I no notes Him and Corey Haim made that movie.
- 2:09Yeah, if you would have asked me before, my wife said he was born
- 2:12to be ginger dead man. But no.
- 2:14No, he was born to be uncle. Yes.
- 2:17On the 14th Travis jinxed us all because he said he wanted to be
- 2:22prepared for Scare Fest and to meet John Jarrett, so we watched
- 2:26Wolf Creek. We got noticed two days later
- 2:29that the flights from Australia got cancelled.
- 2:31It's like the day before or day of.
- 2:34Yeah. That, that Thursday he he had to
- 2:36cancel. I think it's you, John Jarrett.
- 2:39On the 15th, I also chose a familiar movie to prepare us for
- 2:43Scarefest, this one a little bit easier.
- 2:45This Jason Takes Manhattan. Yeah, fun fact, we did get Scott
- 2:48Reeves. This is his first ever con
- 2:51appearance. We got him to sign our box set
- 2:54and we asked him to sign it to 222 and we explained why and he
- 2:58thought it was hilarious. Yeah, that dude was having a
- 3:00blast. Yeah, he was having a great
- 3:01time. On the 16th, we just needed
- 3:05something familiar. We were trying to do Scarefest
- 3:07prep. Saw four.
- 3:09That was your pick. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:11I mean, saw four. Come on, guys.
- 3:12Classic. The 17th.
- 3:14There was no time. There was no time.
- 3:18It was all Scarefest all day. On the 18th, though, we were
- 3:23able to make it to the Film Festival that was going on at
- 3:26Scare Fest, and we saw a little movie, maybe you've heard of it,
- 3:31called The Slasher Nurse. Yeah, with Felissa Rose, Brian
- 3:36Bremer. Yeah, Brian Darcy.
- 3:39Darcy's in there for a little bit.
- 3:40Yeah, Yeah, that was a it's a fun like indie low budget
- 3:45slasher right there. That's a good time.
- 3:48Yeah, that would be 1 good. Kills.
- 3:49That'd be one of those ones that we would pull up on to be or not
- 3:52to be and be like, you know what, it's actually pretty good.
- 3:53Yeah. So if you see it come to
- 3:55streaming, absolutely. Check it out for sure.
- 3:59The 19th it was my turn for familiar man, I wrote.
- 4:03Slasher Nurses familiar. What a fool.
- 4:06It's just 'cause it was Brian. Yeah, we're familiar with one of
- 4:09the actors. In US, yeah.
- 4:11Brian's become our buddy. No, so the the 19th was actual
- 4:17familiar for me. That was truth or dare, the good
- 4:20one. And the good one.
- 4:21You all know which one. You decide.
- 4:23You know which. One, but it's a sci-fi.
- 4:24One, the one we've talked about, Yeah, no.
- 4:27But yeah, we. Haven't we haven't done the the
- 4:30Lucy Hale one? I noticed.
- 4:32I know technically I should be saying it's the Blumhouse one,
- 4:35but to me it's the Lucy. That's how I would always call
- 4:37it. Yeah, I would call it that.
- 4:39On the 20th, Travis picked a new one.
- 4:41People were talking, people were saying, yeah, we had to watch
- 4:45the Jester. Oh yeah, we have heard from
- 4:48plenty of people about the Jester.
- 4:50It was OK. I've I've heard the second one's
- 4:52really good. Yeah, I there was one of those
- 4:54ones where I'm like, they laid the groundwork here.
- 4:56It's fine. I feel like the sequel will be a
- 4:59lot. Better, it was more like the
- 5:00first half. I would have loved it.
- 5:02Yeah, it kind of the. Second-half got real
- 5:04metaphorical. Yeah, it got strange, but it's a
- 5:08fun time. I didn't hate it.
- 5:10Yeah, and then yesterday I chose a new one.
- 5:13Hell of a summer. Hell of a summer.
- 5:16Yeah. Finn Wolfhard Slasher.
- 5:17Yep. You know, I thought that it was
- 5:21pretty fun. I was telling you yesterday they
- 5:23were like a lot of the comedy that was intended actually made
- 5:26me feel really sad. So that's, I don't know, maybe
- 5:30that's just Gen. Z humor is really mean.
- 5:33Maybe. Yeah, 'cause I have, Finn and
- 5:35his buddy wrote and directed. It.
- 5:37Yeah. Bobby Brick.
- 5:38They got to play Bobby, yeah. Oh, Billy Brick.
- 5:41Yeah, Bobby is the character I. Know Bobby is the character.
- 5:43He's also Tony the Toad guy in Friendship.
- 5:46Yeah, got ripped off. Fucking don't RIP me off.
- 5:50OK? We got that all out of the way.
- 5:52Yeah, this weekend we will have our Texas Chainsaw wrap up and
- 5:57for our patrons, we're gonna have our bonus episode.
- 5:59We're gonna have a busy recording day, but it's gonna be
- 6:01fun because we are doing Name That Tune Horror Movie Edition.
- 6:06PP Yeah, it's gonna be fun. So if you are a budget to your
- 6:10patron, you will have access to that or for only $1.00 less you
- 6:15can rent that you can listen to that individual episode.
- 6:18So you pay $5 to listen to a single episode or $6 all of our
- 6:25bonus episodes. You do.
- 6:27You get your name on the show. You get a sticker of our
- 6:31franchise. Yeah, you get a sticker.
- 6:32And guess what? Budget to your bubbies, we're
- 6:34going to tell you what the next franchise is.
- 6:36This weekend, Oh yeah, we'll do. And the rest of y'all ain't
- 6:38getting that until November. That's right.
- 6:41So yeah, yeah, as soon as the schedule drops, you'll see it.
- 6:43But. And y'all better not fucking
- 6:45tell. Yeah, Secret.
- 6:48I'm super excited for it, though.
- 6:49We don't want to talk about it for a bit.
- 6:50We're very excited. OK, so that's it for my
- 6:53announcements. We never did a poll, did we?
- 6:55No, because it was so busy. Yeah, yeah, OK.
- 6:57Yeah. So we're just going to get into
- 6:59Texas Chainsaw on. There Texas Chainsaw Massacre,
- 7:022022. Yes, yes, yes, the Netflix 1.
- 7:05Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Yeah. They corrected it this time, but
- 7:11they left out the the. It's OK.
- 7:13It's OK. It did.
- 7:14It did. It earned the the We shall
- 7:16discuss. We shall discuss.
- 7:18And find out interesting. OK, well then let's get into it.
- 7:21So Texas Chainsaw released February 18th, 2022.
- 7:26We watched it on Netflix, which is where it premiered.
- 7:29Because that's where it lives. Yeah.
- 7:31You can't watch it anywhere else.
- 7:32So that's just kind of how it's going to be for everybody.
- 7:35And you have to have AVPN for the state of Texas to be able to
- 7:38watch it. Yeah.
- 7:41This was written by So OK So Story, Fetti Alvarez, Roto
- 7:49Saigus and the screenplay was by Chris Thomas Devlin, directed by
- 7:56David Blue Garcia, music by Collin Stetson and special
- 8:00effects makeup by Jofko Dohandiski.
- 8:06Starring Elsie Fisher as a Lila, Sarah Yarkin is Mel, Mark
- 8:12Burnham is a Leatherface, Jacob Lettimore as Dante, Nell Hudson
- 8:16as Ruth, or Dante's partner if you're watching the subtitles
- 8:21and have no idea who the name of that person is because they
- 8:24never tell you. Yeah, Dante's partner.
- 8:27MO Dunford as Rickster and Owen Ferrer as Sally.
- 8:33I butchered that name, but I did my hardest.
- 8:36I'm going to also kind of put it on Dante that we don't know
- 8:39Dante, his partner's name because when he is literally
- 8:42introducing people, he says this is my fiance.
- 8:45You know, you're right. My fiance.
- 8:47My fiance, dear baby, where is he?
- 8:49Where's? My fiance, it's one of those
- 8:51things where every time I start this movie up, I always think
- 8:54Mel is like, I thought that they're like, you know, a couple
- 8:57doing a food truck together, but not they're just friends.
- 8:59They're just friends. Yeah.
- 9:00All right. Time for our favorite game on
- 9:03the show. Budget or budget.
- 9:07What do you think, Jesse? Bug Ted.
- 9:11Bug Ted. Netflix bug, Ted.
- 9:15Yeah, same. Amount of syllables.
- 9:17Thing is, this movie wasn't produced by Netflix.
- 9:20It is just, you know, they got the distribution.
- 9:24But I'm going to go into details about all that here in a little
- 9:26bit. But no, this is a budget.
- 9:29Really. Yeah.
- 9:29This is really $20 million. God damn.
- 9:34To make this movie. Yeah, it it cost a pretty penny.
- 9:38With a cast of like 12. Yeah, I know, I know.
- 9:44I wonder if it like it was filmed during COVID.
- 9:47So does that raise the budget? Any it does explain the cast.
- 9:51Yeah, I guess that's true. It does kind of explain that a
- 9:53little. Bit what was the bubbling
- 9:55situation then for that party bus scene?
- 9:57Because that is all of the extras were like, did they all
- 10:01just say in I feel like. It if we get it, we get it.
- 10:06I like to imagine them in the other wing of the Omni from the
- 10:11the DCCS cuz they had to bubble in the hotel for their auditions
- 10:16that year. Oh yeah.
- 10:17So I'm imagining that like DCC, one wing of the Omni Texas
- 10:22chance I'm asking or any other wing.
- 10:25Is this in Texas? That where that happened?
- 10:29Oh yeah, Dallas cheerleaders. Right, Right.
- 10:31Of course. What am I thinking?
- 10:32I'm fucking stupid. Yeah, that's.
- 10:34Texas is a big state, OK? There's a lot of places.
- 10:37What are places? What do people see?
- 10:38I get that, but you literally said Texas.
- 10:41You didn't specify the city. Yeah, well, OK.
- 10:46Don't sigh at me like your failure.
- 10:48Weight of the world on that dog's shoulders.
- 10:50I'm trying to I, I, I want to reveal things.
- 10:52OK, I'm saving things. No, I I OK, All right, I don't
- 10:58have any financials as far as gross and all of that since this
- 11:03went straight to streaming, but I do have the IMDb, which is a
- 11:064.7 out of 10. This is a very whoa.
- 11:11It's about it's okay for Texas Chainsaw so.
- 11:14Can I throw in something real quick?
- 11:16Yeah, we did talk to RE and My Love and Ken Foray this weekend
- 11:21and we said that Leatherface is criminally underrated in the
- 11:24franchise and they both said absolutely.
- 11:25Yeah, well, that was awesome. I forgot about that.
- 11:28We did get to talk to both Ken Foray and him.
- 11:30Yeah, that was a great time. Yeah, man, we got to talk to the
- 11:34underappreciated slashers. We got Don Shanks also from all
- 11:37week five. I've defended that movie today,
- 11:40even that in our discord. I silenced the discord because
- 11:43it was hurting my feelings. Yeah.
- 11:45People are mean. All right, so I have 3 movies
- 11:49from 2022 to compare this one to.
- 11:52I have a theme. That theme is depressed towns.
- 11:55OK, so the first one, Barbarian. Oh God, yeah.
- 12:02That little area that they live is not doing so high.
- 12:04Yeah, that area of Detroit. That released September 9th,
- 12:082022 with a 4.5 million budget, 45,000,000 gross. 7 out of 10 on
- 12:14IMDb. And you can go listen to us talk
- 12:16about it. We did talk about that.
- 12:18Yeah. Actually, we've talked about all
- 12:19of these Movies, OK? Yeah, well, that was like
- 12:22probably one of the scariest movies I've seen in a long time.
- 12:25True. Also 2022, one of the best years
- 12:28for horror in a long time. So yeah, we've covered a lot of
- 12:31shows, movie #2 Halloween Ends, Everybody's really sad about
- 12:36Michael's just killing people. That's the whole theme of the
- 12:39whole thing. David Gordon Green is like
- 12:40everybody. This town is depressed.
- 12:43That's what The Shape is right now.
- 12:44He's now out of sad town. He took the form of a sad town
- 12:47more. Like satin field.
- 12:50Oh my God, you set me up for that.
- 12:52That should have. You should know better than to
- 12:53set me up for things like that. That should have been the
- 12:55tagline. That should have been the
- 12:57tagline for our episode. Ours is probably someone dumb
- 13:00like Rumble in the Tunnel. Oh my God, it probably was.
- 13:03I forgot what we did. Which I also came up with SO.
- 13:06Rumble in the Tunnel was a great thing and also at a very
- 13:10upsetting moment in the history of that franchise.
- 13:14OK, that movie had a $20 million budget.
- 13:17Also OK worldwide gross of 104 million and a 5 out of 10 on
- 13:22IMDb. OK, now movie #3 Pearl.
- 13:28Depressed and in the Depression. In the depression, also like the
- 13:33times of this era, they were dealing with COVID, or not
- 13:36COVID, but bird flu. Spanish.
- 13:39Flu, Spanish flu, that's what it was, yeah, yeah, they, they had
- 13:41their own pandemic going on down there that released September
- 13:4416th, 2022. Don't have budgets because it's
- 13:48a 24. They keep a tight lip on it.
- 13:50So worldwide gross 9 million IMDb 7.
- 13:55OK. Yeah.
- 13:56All right, so I have one tackling.
- 13:58Just one. Just one.
- 13:59Yeah, they won. Fede, I'm blaming you
- 14:03specifically. Well, he is, I think, a
- 14:05producer. Yeah.
- 14:06Yeah, you should get the blame, yeah.
- 14:08I expect things out of you. Yeah.
- 14:10Greatness, usually. All right.
- 14:13It's the face of madness returns.
- 14:16That's OK. Yeah.
- 14:17It's not that bad. It's not that great.
- 14:20You know, it works. Yeah, OK, so let's do some fun
- 14:24facts. Fun facts.
- 14:26Fun facts. So we discussed on the last one,
- 14:29the Texas chain no weather face that's they the. 2017
- 14:33Leatherface not. Yeah, not.
- 14:35The third Leatherface. Yeah, this franchise confusing
- 14:38to talk about, but yeah, Weather Face, the 2017 one that's was
- 14:44the last movie of whoa, let's see who did that.
- 14:48They said that they counted it. They thought of it as a direct
- 14:53prequel to the 19th. They said you're supposed to
- 14:56watch 3D Leatherface and then the original Texas Chainsaw
- 14:59Massacre. OK, yeah, I'm trying to think.
- 15:02I got that information, so that's why I remember.
- 15:04It Oh, do you remember who who made the movie?
- 15:06Who was? It now why would I remember a
- 15:08detail like that? No Dang it, I know the timeline,
- 15:11but a person's name? Forget it.
- 15:14No, it's not even that. It's the company.
- 15:16Oh, also don't. Remember.
- 15:17Goddamn it. OK.
- 15:18Oh, I don't know. Lionsgate.
- 15:19Oh. Yes.
- 15:21Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK.
- 15:23Yeah, yeah, cuz I was in there. Yeah, right.
- 15:25Oh my God, this whole mess is unedited.
- 15:28Yeah, well, it's OK. Come into your your holes.
- 15:30The chaos is part of the fun sometimes.
- 15:32So they lost the rights. We talked about that last time.
- 15:35Yeah, Yeah. So enter Legendary Pictures,
- 15:38which took over the rights this time around.
- 15:41They bought the rights in 2018. They had plans to make both TV
- 15:46and film projects from this. Yes, thankfully the TV show did
- 15:50not happen because I do not want to see ATV show on Texas
- 15:53Chainsaw. How many episodes of the family
- 15:56dinner would occur? Oh my God, every episode.
- 15:58Has one. Yeah.
- 15:59That's, no, that's the theme song.
- 16:02Like it's a different thing happening at the dinner table.
- 16:05Kind of like Roseanne. Are you trying to make me like
- 16:07the dinner scenes now? Because that's the way to do.
- 16:09It no, I'm just still driving off of my discussion with Lex
- 16:13earlier this week. Oh, I didn't theme songs.
- 16:16Oh yeah, Jesse did an episode with Lex.
- 16:19Yes, I will be on I guess sometime within the next few
- 16:23weeks. Once I know the exact date, I'll
- 16:25let you guys know. But that is hosted by our friend
- 16:27Lex Basil Price, who was previously on the show with the
- 16:31one of the Co hosts of their other podcast pod lead JW
- 16:36Chrome. Yeah, it was our Halloween
- 16:38resurrection episode. That was a good time.
- 16:40Yes. So I will let you guys know when
- 16:41that is up so you you can go listen to it.
- 16:44Yeah, that'd be fun. So filming started August 2020
- 16:48in Bulgaria. So they missed the bubble.
- 16:50That's why I was confused about Dallas before.
- 16:52OK. Is that why Alice Krieg was
- 16:56there? Because she was filming Yeah
- 16:59Prince movies. Oh my God, maybe.
- 17:02Because we have Alice Creek once again in like a town that no
- 17:08longer really exists and she is the sole survivor leader person.
- 17:14I choose to believe that this is canonically in that universe.
- 17:18That's the long lost sister of Queen, whatever her name is.
- 17:23I forgot her name. The Queen from that movie.
- 17:26Oh, I was talking about Silent Hill, 'cause we talked about.
- 17:28Her Oh God. Oh, I'm talking about no Texas
- 17:32Chainsaw. Shares at University of
- 17:33Christmas. Are you saying Aldovania?
- 17:36Who's the what's? It is a depressed town.
- 17:39I'll have you know that once they arrested the interloper,
- 17:42its economics were better than ever.
- 17:44And they even paid off their debts to the other.
- 17:47The Penguins. Oh God.
- 17:49We know too much about the war of that series.
- 17:52So yeah, filming. Yeah.
- 17:54Filming happened in Bulgaria in 2020 in August.
- 17:57It was originally directed by the Toho brothers.
- 18:02OK. However, after receiving some
- 18:04footage, the studio fired them because they did not like the
- 18:07product that they got. Oh shit, like was it like too
- 18:10intense for the studio or just bad?
- 18:12Well, they cited creative differences.
- 18:15After one week, I think it was just bad.
- 18:18OK, yeah. So inner David Blue Garcia, who
- 18:23decided he was going to take this on, he didn't use any of
- 18:27the footage from that. So they completely started from
- 18:30scratch all over again. I wonder if it exists anywhere.
- 18:33I would like to know that I did some really hard research to try
- 18:37and find any information on what was filmed before and I couldn't
- 18:39find anything. I wonder if they signed Ndas or
- 18:43if they are just so pissed off about the whole thing that they
- 18:45don't even want to talk about it.
- 18:47I don't know. So yeah, he was hired, didn't
- 18:51have the footage there, but he had this DP there.
- 18:55Diaz, I forgot what his first name was, but they were given
- 18:59roughly one week to restart everything.
- 19:02They were only given shorthands and bullet points for
- 19:04everything. So they really had to kind of
- 19:07speed things up and just kind of run with it without having much
- 19:12preparation at all. And they think they're being
- 19:17from University of Texas for them being able to do what they
- 19:21were able to do. Because according to them,
- 19:24that's like religious down there.
- 19:26Like everybody knows about Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 19:28If you go there and study film there, they know the culture,
- 19:32they know Texas. The other guys were Irish
- 19:34people. So I wonder if that was part of
- 19:36it, like a disconnect or something like that.
- 19:38And now I want to see that scrap footage even more.
- 19:41I know, me too, yeah. Diaz also had previously worked
- 19:44with Henkel, who was a producer on this also.
- 19:47So they had that connection there.
- 19:50They I hate this so much. They focused on a vibe that they
- 19:55coined themselves Elevated grindhouse.
- 19:58I fucking hate the elevated any type of genre because.
- 20:03Again, I'm just going to say it implies that the previous genre
- 20:07was western and elevated makes it superior.
- 20:10It's just so fucking stupid I hate it.
- 20:13This doesn't come up often in our day-to-day lives.
- 20:15How do you feel about elevators? Elevators are great, OK?
- 20:20Although you just told me about 1:00 making a very shaky thing
- 20:23happening to you at work, and I then told you they scare me
- 20:26sometimes too. Yeah.
- 20:28OK. Yeah.
- 20:28Which is reasonable, I think, but elevated grindhouse
- 20:32basically is what they call a blending of their personal style
- 20:36with what they thought was close to what the OG was, which was
- 20:39kind of grindhouse. So they did things like they
- 20:42used classic lenses and they tried to do practical gore and
- 20:45effects as much as possible, but they tried to throw in like the
- 20:48little twenty 20s flare to things, you know, the up and
- 20:51coming people. A 24, I guess, if you will,
- 20:54which we will have an A-24 Texas chainsaw very soon.
- 20:58You. Know what I I will give any
- 21:01Texas chainsaw a shot. I will too, as we've discussed.
- 21:04I, I yeah, yeah. John Laraquet actually reprises
- 21:07role as a narrator this time around.
- 21:08That was not archive dialogue, that was just him.
- 21:13I didn't think it sounded like. Him.
- 21:15Really. Yeah.
- 21:16Wow, no, that was him. Yeah, he's only done this one,
- 21:19the remake and New Beginning and.
- 21:21I even like when the voice over started I was like, oh it's a
- 21:24shame they recast him. John, can you do another take?
- 21:29He don't sound like you. I mean his age happens, I just
- 21:34it didn't sound like him. I guess that's true.
- 21:36It sounds like somebody doing an impression of him.
- 21:38Oh, no, I'm sorry, John. Here's a weird thing that I
- 21:42never considered for this right here, but Alvarez confirmed that
- 21:47the events of the original sequels do take place in this
- 21:50timeline. Which which original sequence?
- 21:56Yes, that's where he left. No, you can't leave like this.
- 22:02The timeline of this franchise is irresponsible.
- 22:05I know it's it's like every single one of them restarted.
- 22:09So I don't know, it's like maybe a pick your adventure.
- 22:11Do you want this to be Bubba from?
- 22:13Matthew McConaughey timeline. OK.
- 22:21Yeah. I mean, I guess it technically
- 22:22is, right? Because I don't know, I guess by
- 22:25that right there, that's implying that they're all in the
- 22:29same universe, which I've never interpreted any of them being
- 22:33consistent whatsoever. No, we've spent several months
- 22:37talking about how in fact they are not consistent.
- 22:40Yeah, I know. Yeah.
- 22:41And we're going to actually include that in a wrap up too.
- 22:43I'm going to finally put together that little thing of
- 22:46our timeline here. I haven't been doing it as we've
- 22:48been going, but I'll make a timeline for that episode right
- 22:52there. OK.
- 22:53I hope you have it before we record our our rankings.
- 22:58I should be able to do it, it shouldn't be too hard.
- 23:00So it'll help me figure out where I'm ranking different
- 23:03Movies, OK? Okay, and the final bit of
- 23:06information is just that the reason this is on Netflix is
- 23:09because they did test screenings and it did poorly.
- 23:11And it's really funny cuz Alvarez is actually, despite
- 23:15what people are saying, things have gone really, really great
- 23:18and. I mean, maybe they've gone
- 23:20really, really great for Alvarez.
- 23:22Yeah, he's killing it. I guess I mean for him, yeah,
- 23:25personally, maybe he was like at one of his other, you know,
- 23:27movies, so. Somebody was like, so how do I
- 23:29think it's the Texas Chainsaw? You don't think since Texas
- 23:32Chainsaw have that Really. Really.
- 23:33Oh yeah, yeah, evil did. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:35Oh man, fantastic. People ate that shit.
- 23:37Up alien Ron Lewis. Alien even.
- 23:40Yeah. Fucking killed it.
- 23:41Texas Chainsaw, Huh? What?
- 23:42What? Huh.
- 23:46OK, OK, that's different. Fun facts.
- 23:47OK, all right, so let's do some good.
- 23:51Bad ugly nipster. Jesse, what did you like about
- 23:53this one? I do think that this was an
- 23:55interesting way to do the storyline, you know, have the
- 24:00town be kind of like a deserted town.
- 24:03I think there's a lot of fun possibilities with that.
- 24:06Unfortunately, I don't think it played with that idea enough.
- 24:09Yeah, it's kind of like what we were talking about with Texas
- 24:12Chainsaw 3D, where it was fun actually seeing the town for
- 24:15once not being just this one house all the time.
- 24:18Yeah, yeah. Because I, I like the concept of
- 24:21what they were going for with it.
- 24:23But I think that, like, rushed production kind of does show
- 24:27because it doesn't feel as fleshed out as it could would
- 24:29have, especially knowing that, like, I hate to keep harping all
- 24:32this, but we know the work that Fede Alvarez is capable of.
- 24:35Yeah. This does not feel like his
- 24:37peak. No, it doesn't.
- 24:39They did construct that town pretty much in Bulgaria.
- 24:43Wow. Yeah.
- 24:44They really wanted it to be like Texas.
- 24:46So apparently it was a really big challenge to make a place
- 24:48look like Texas in Bulgaria. I mean, I can see that the the
- 24:52Leatherface was also filmed. Yeah, it was overseas somewhere,
- 24:56I can't remember where exactly. Romania, no.
- 24:59Somewhere around there, 'cause we had a lot of Game of Thrones
- 25:01actors in. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:03But yeah, there it's I again. I am happy that we had a
- 25:07different kind of storyline. You know, we did.
- 25:10We didn't have a dinner scene. I know.
- 25:12Yeah, that's nice. So I thought that was really
- 25:14interesting. I think we have one of the
- 25:16coolest kills of the series where he breaks the cops arm and
- 25:20then stabs him in a throat with his own ulna.
- 25:22That is creative. I don't care who you are.
- 25:25That's good. That was a great scene right
- 25:27there. It this movie is worth it for
- 25:29that scene alone Yeah, like, and I think it's got it's got some
- 25:33interesting moments. I they're handled very clumsily,
- 25:39which is why I don't feel like they deserve to even try and
- 25:41call it elevated. Yeah.
- 25:44But I think the things we're talking about school shootings,
- 25:47those are unfortunately very, very relevant.
- 25:49And I think kind of tying those moments together for Lila as a
- 25:54character and her survivors guilt is such a huge part of her
- 25:58story. And I think that those are like
- 26:02somatically very potent today. Yeah, I mean, definitely,
- 26:07definitely is relevant to the conversation.
- 26:10I it was a weird thing. I think even like the sister
- 26:13too, where she almost gets a little bit, like she's so
- 26:17protective, it's patronizing. Yeah.
- 26:19And I think that we we don't get to dive into that again, it
- 26:23feels you can feel the rush in the production for this because
- 26:26it doesn't feel as fleshed out between them as it could be.
- 26:29The weird thing that I noticed when I was searching for reviews
- 26:33from like IMDb today was that a lot of people are like the woke
- 26:38one. I'm like, what is like woke
- 26:41about talking about school shootings and having Gen.
- 26:44Z people here also, you know? Also, have you seen the first
- 26:49one? Yeah, I know, but like it's.
- 26:53That is the history of this franchise.
- 26:57I just really don't even see anything woke about this movie
- 26:59at all. It's just like school shootings
- 27:01are a thing, you know? Like it's just like an actual
- 27:04thing. Like people have to be afraid of
- 27:07these days. They weren't.
- 27:08I mean, it was less of a thing back then.
- 27:11It's just, yeah, especially in Texas, like a gun state.
- 27:16I think it's pretty relevant. And I think, honestly, they did
- 27:20a good job talking about the topic of gun control in almost a
- 27:26neutral way. Yeah.
- 27:28Because obviously, like, Melody's very protective over
- 27:32Lila and what happened. Lila's got like, a little bit
- 27:34of, like, fear. But we do see her using it for
- 27:37protection at the end. And I think there's a very
- 27:39important conversation that we need to have about gun control.
- 27:43It doesn't mean, like, no guns ever.
- 27:45Yeah. It just means like.
- 27:46I mean, she's even like, kind of like checking the line out
- 27:48whenever she's at Richter's place, you know?
- 27:50Yeah. Yeah, there's I I thought it
- 27:54like, honestly handled that discussion pretty well for being
- 27:59a Texas Chainsaw movie. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:01So I, I think there are a lot of things this movie does really
- 28:05well. I just wish it had been, I very
- 28:09rarely say this. I think this is a movie that
- 28:10needed maybe like 20 more minutes.
- 28:13Yeah, it's kind of short. Yeah.
- 28:15Yeah, I think you're. Right.
- 28:16And, and I think it could have been really good like up at the
- 28:18front, so we don't have to have such like direct dialogue.
- 28:23Yeah, yeah. There's some clunk to it.
- 28:26I don't know. It might have just you.
- 28:28I mean, you can tell it was kind of brushed.
- 28:29They they really did have to throw this thing together real
- 28:31fast. It, much like many of
- 28:34Leatherface's victims of yore, it is like a sledgehammer to the
- 28:38face. Yeah, the messaging they give
- 28:41out just because they don't have time to build those things as
- 28:46organically as they probably could have.
- 28:49Yeah, no. OK.
- 28:51Anything else? Those, I mean, I feel like that
- 28:54was a pretty decent amount. Yeah, OK.
- 28:56I just want to make sure I'm not like.
- 28:58Yeah, very good. All right, so my things are, I
- 29:02think Weatherface is actually intimidating in this movie.
- 29:05I think they cast him really well this time around.
- 29:08That's a great weatherface right there.
- 29:09He. Moves quickly and quietly.
- 29:12Yeah. And you don't like a big guy
- 29:15that's also quiet, because that's a deadly combo.
- 29:18Yeah, I'm also like, I know people kind of should on it, but
- 29:20I am a sucker for a while, like the old man slasher, you know,
- 29:23thing now my days I think it's fun, you know, like it's kind of
- 29:27cool to see them in a different way than, you know, he's like
- 29:31youngish, like in their prime people that are definitely
- 29:33capable of doing some of these things, but I feel like it makes
- 29:36it more interesting. Like how the fuck is this person
- 29:38this old doing this shit right here?
- 29:40Listen, I read the read your books and he should buy all
- 29:45rights be a card carrying member of AARP for at least a couple
- 29:48decades by this point so I'm not going to judge.
- 29:51There's the old band kicking ass.
- 29:53I think he's in the 70s in this movie.
- 29:55This movie is set 50 years after the original, which he was like,
- 29:59I mean, that's like saying he's in his 20s and the original.
- 30:02And even then he looks kind of older.
- 30:04But then he's also kind of a young guy.
- 30:06He's bum. Yeah.
- 30:06Yeah. I also agree with you.
- 30:09I like the kills in this movie, like they are pretty unique.
- 30:13Some of them. I mean especially that one with
- 30:15the bone being stabbed in the neck, like that was insane.
- 30:18I like the bus scene. I know people shooting on the
- 30:20bus scene. Everybody has a lot of reasons
- 30:23to shoot on the bus scene, but whenever he gets down to him
- 30:26just straight up mowing down the entire crowd of people, that's
- 30:29fun. Honestly just change the
- 30:32dialogue from that one guy saying we're going to cancel
- 30:34you. Nobody would have a fucking
- 30:36problem with that scene. Watch the scene on mute, you're
- 30:38fine. And The thing is that I
- 30:40understand some people have issues with that, and I think
- 30:43some people also take issue with them all just like pulling out
- 30:46their phones and recording. But I've seen that shit online.
- 30:50People just, I don't know, for whatever reason, they just feel
- 30:54compelled to just pull out their phones and record chaos, even if
- 30:57they're in immediate danger. It's just people are stupid and
- 31:03like, all of these people in that bus right there, I'm sorry,
- 31:06but it's not the best of the best right there.
- 31:08There's some pretty dumb people on that bus.
- 31:11So, yeah. And I mean, exactly what you
- 31:15said before, it's different from other entries.
- 31:16You know, like one of the things I liked about this though, is
- 31:19like they kind of make our cast of people that were following
- 31:23the bad people this time around. Yeah.
- 31:26I can understand why later faces mad.
- 31:27This time they killed his mom. They broke into his house,
- 31:31kicked her out. They had no God damn.
- 31:35Right. They had no right.
- 31:36They are all bad people. They're also trying to
- 31:38completely go down there and gentrify the entire town.
- 31:42You know what I mean? Like, it's just I they are the
- 31:45bad people in this movie. I know Leatherface is like, you
- 31:47know, a serial killer and he's killing them and he probably
- 31:50shouldn't do that. That's kind of an overreaction,
- 31:51but he has every right to be mad at them.
- 31:55As we've said many times throughout our coverage of the
- 31:59Texas Chainsaw movies, leather faces protecting his home.
- 32:04Yeah, I feel like it's like, aside from the original, even
- 32:07more true in this one than a lot of other ones.
- 32:11And finally, the mask. The mask is fucking fantastic.
- 32:14I love the mask in this one. It's upsetting.
- 32:17Also, oh God, this. It's just so sad.
- 32:21I'm going and I'm putting on his mom's makeup.
- 32:24Dude that fucking kills me when he like not only that, but he
- 32:27like grabs her dress and just like sobs over it.
- 32:30They that's another good thing that they did with this movie is
- 32:33they're like, he's a sympathetic character.
- 32:35Yeah, like he is not this guy that is just a fucking like
- 32:40killer just for the sake of killing people.
- 32:42Like he's doing this thing because to him, this is what has
- 32:45to be done. This is the right thing.
- 32:47He's a he's a hurt person and. You, he put a lot, a lot of
- 32:50thought into it. Like clearly Virginia was like,
- 32:55listen, in case of fire break, in case of emergency break the
- 32:59drywall. Yeah, this, this, this chainsaw
- 33:02was hidden there. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:04They had it, they they talked about this.
- 33:06There was a. Condition.
- 33:07That was the code that she gave him.
- 33:09Whenever she was giving her last breaths, she was like, Mama says
- 33:13be good. He's like, OK.
- 33:16Kill everybody with my secret. Chainsaw.
- 33:18It's probably. Disgusting.
- 33:19Got it. OK, let's talk about some bad
- 33:21stuff. I mean.
- 33:23Honestly, like I said, a big part of it is the dialogue.
- 33:26It's just really clunky and I don't, I feel like it's cringy
- 33:32to call something cringy. It just, it feels like, what do
- 33:36kids say these days? I think they do say cringy so.
- 33:41I'm not saying that, I'm saying that's what they were saying.
- 33:44Oh, they were trying to do. They're trying to write for a
- 33:47generation and they don't fully understand.
- 33:49We're gonna cancel you. Like, yeah, people do like
- 33:53record, but they don't literally say we're gonna cancel you and
- 33:56be like, yeah, yeah, what's up? What's up?
- 33:59Are you saying why are you coming into Myspace?
- 34:01Yeah, why are you on my bus with a chainsaw?
- 34:04Who do you think you are? Sometimes you're gonna get
- 34:07fired. Yeah.
- 34:08But that's the most of. It I'm sending this to
- 34:11corporate, I'm recording this. This is my right in Texas.
- 34:16It is a single is a single permission state.
- 34:20That's right if that's true or not, but neither do most people
- 34:23who are recording in public. For that, I think that's a
- 34:25federal thing, Like no matter where you are, if you're in
- 34:28public, you don't have any like reason to have any privacy.
- 34:32Or yeah, no reasonable expectation.
- 34:33Yeah, yeah. But yeah, like, I think there
- 34:36are things like that. And like I said, they were
- 34:39really trying to show the parallels of like, Lila's
- 34:41trauma. And I think like, honestly, we
- 34:45just needed that fleshed out a little bit more.
- 34:49And I don't, I really don't say that.
- 34:51A lot of times with movies, I'm like, you could be shorter, this
- 34:53one you could be longer. Yeah, they touched on it, but
- 34:56then it's like, but why? Like, what's the relevance to
- 34:59it? Or is it just so she has that
- 35:00moment where she like, you know, comes to terms with something
- 35:03like the the social commentary kind of felt a little bit jammed
- 35:07in there. Yeah, it felt like it felt like
- 35:09they were doing that and they were also kind of trying to
- 35:10touch on gentrification because they're showing like this group
- 35:14is idealist, but really they are just kind of being greedy
- 35:18capitalists. But they don't see themselves
- 35:20that way. They see themselves as the good
- 35:21guys. Like, no, we're bringing in a
- 35:22group of idealists and we're going to be a peaceful town and
- 35:25it's going to be awesome. A cult.
- 35:27Yeah. That's a cult.
- 35:28Yeah, I. Like that when Richter said that
- 35:31so. Yeah.
- 35:32And I like I see those ideas are there and I just they could have
- 35:37been explored touch more. And also, why did we bring back
- 35:42Sally just to kill her? That's one of my things, too.
- 35:46They dropped the ball with her big time.
- 35:48Especially, like, if you're going to even like, have to
- 35:52recast her, like make her character meaningful, like,
- 35:58because not only do they bring her back to kill her, they show
- 36:01her that, like, they kind of pull a Halloween where I was
- 36:03like, Jamie, it was never actually about you.
- 36:05Michael just wanted to go to his house.
- 36:07Yeah. The.
- 36:07Weird thing is, like there was never any, like nobody ever
- 36:11thought that he was going after her just because it was her, you
- 36:14know what I mean? Like.
- 36:16She and her friends broke into his house.
- 36:19Yeah, like the whole thing with Halloween.
- 36:20I hate to keep saying that I don't think we should just kill
- 36:23everybody that comes into our houses, but.
- 36:26No, but I mean somebody like Leatherface, I mean, that's
- 36:28punishable by death by chainsaw right there or by me Hook, you
- 36:32know, whichever. But the thing with Halloween,
- 36:34like they built up all of this war throughout their franchise
- 36:37that he's going after his family.
- 36:39She's family, you know, like it was so ingrained in people that
- 36:42I felt like they really wanted to drive that home in that
- 36:44movie, that that's not the case in this movie.
- 36:46It didn't make any sense for them to do that.
- 36:48It was just weird. But the weird thing is like they
- 36:51didn't even touch on that. Like, that wasn't even, wait,
- 36:54no, that had been discussed in Halloween 2018.
- 36:58Yeah. So yeah, they did kind of copy
- 36:59that, I guess. And also, it's very illogical
- 37:04that like, she told the police what happened once, never spoke
- 37:07of it again, yet she's a Texas Ranger and she's specifically
- 37:10hunting down Leatherface. Yeah, yeah.
- 37:13These things are an attic gap. I also just hate this is what.
- 37:16Happens when you have multiple story writers.
- 37:18Her whole confrontation with them sucks too.
- 37:20Like the whole thing. Like, she has a shotgun.
- 37:22She has them dead to rights. And she's just, like, saying the
- 37:25names of all the victims. And he's just like, OK, yeah.
- 37:27And he walks away and she lets him walk away and attack another
- 37:31group of people. This is the first person that
- 37:36has broken into his house that he hasn't immediately killed.
- 37:39He he dug deep with that. That is the pettiest leather
- 37:45face we have ever seen. Maybe that was intentional.
- 37:48I I hadn't even considered that. But I think that was a sassy
- 37:51little Bubba moment. He's like, oh shit.
- 37:53She's like, I don't remember her.
- 37:54OK, You know what? Yeah, yeah.
- 37:56Who are you? Who are you?
- 37:56Who? What I got, I got bigger fish to
- 37:59fry. Cindy, OK.
- 38:04Anything else? No, no, go.
- 38:08Well, you've kind of done a lot of the things that I've done.
- 38:12I feel like, I mean, I'll touch on the dialogue a little bit
- 38:15more. I feel like there was some
- 38:16pretty corny dialogue. Like, we had some lines, like
- 38:19with her where she's like, oh, if I knew, I'd guess I'd put my
- 38:22face on, you know, or the whole cancel thing or like whenever
- 38:27they're driving in, then the cops pull over Dante, it's like,
- 38:29oh, you're the cook. You know what I mean?
- 38:31He's like, oh, no, I'm actually a chef.
- 38:33I feel like they were trying to, like, do these little things.
- 38:36I don't feel like it translated because I feel like that kind of
- 38:39thing works if you're doing like, Bee Movie slash camp.
- 38:42And this was really, this was elevated grindhouse.
- 38:44This is what happens when you try and do elevated grindhouse.
- 38:48Yeah. It's just like, you know, like
- 38:50if you make this a campy Bee Movie, that'll be fine.
- 38:54I'll love it. Probably, actually.
- 38:56But it just didn't match the tone of what we were getting
- 38:59here. Yeah.
- 39:00And. Cuz those could have been really
- 39:02funny lines. Yeah.
- 39:03Like it could have worked. We could have even worked with
- 39:05some of that earlier clunky dialogue, but yeah.
- 39:07That's what I'm saying this. Movie to be different tonally
- 39:10than what it actually should have been.
- 39:11Yeah. They, they were very serious
- 39:14with this movie. They.
- 39:15Yeah, which so many of the Texas Chainsaw movies have not taken
- 39:18themselves seriously and have been better off for it.
- 39:20And we're talking about The Next Generation, Yes.
- 39:23And also this movie just kind of lacks the chases of the Texas
- 39:26Chainsaw movies. And that's one of the highlights
- 39:29of the series for me. I love seeing Weatherface chase
- 39:31people. Even if he's like 70 year old at
- 39:33Weatherface, he's still doing some pretty impressive things
- 39:36here. Yeah, why do we have him pull on
- 39:38a Friday the 13th and hopping out from an indoor pool?
- 39:42That was weird. Yeah, he's kind of like a shark
- 39:44right there. Yeah, like I don't, I don't
- 39:46understand. Yeah, it's just, yeah, Also,
- 39:50Talia's going absolutely nuts out there.
- 39:52So that's definitely coming up here.
- 39:54Yeah. Then the whole neighborhood of
- 39:55dogs are losing their mind, right?
- 39:57Now, yeah, they're on patrol right now, yeah.
- 40:00OK, what's you're ugly? Again, I like the school
- 40:06shootings are sadly a very relevant conversation to be
- 40:09having and like we're not doing enough with that conversation.
- 40:13Yeah, yeah. I don't think this is the right
- 40:16movie for it, though. Yeah, it could have been maybe
- 40:18if they thought of a different way to do it, but they just
- 40:20didn't handle it the right way. Yeah.
- 40:22And like, even if they just made it part of like her background,
- 40:26you know, like, but they're trying to tie it into the again.
- 40:30I just feel like the the the setup needed a little bit more
- 40:34finesse. Yeah, for sure.
- 40:37Yeah. Yeah, I had kind of related to
- 40:40that, you know, the whole thing with survivor's skill that she's
- 40:43dealing with throughout, like, that kind of sucks.
- 40:46I I mean, I've, we've talked about all of these taking over
- 40:49the town, you know, for commercial gain, and also the
- 40:52whole infantilizing her little sister because of what happened
- 40:55to her. You know, like, it's just,
- 40:57there's a lot of ugly things that went down.
- 40:59Yeah. Absurd.
- 41:03Listen I I will forever love that moment of him just popping
- 41:09his head out of the. I love that man, it's so fun.
- 41:13It's so fun, it's so silly. It's So what this movie really
- 41:17needed to be. That's actually the cover of
- 41:19this. Yes, I have one right here
- 41:22today. It it like that's the tone we
- 41:25needed to go with. But like Leatherface, freshly be
- 41:29faced with his mother's skin running, planning a rampage
- 41:35through a field of flowers, it's beautiful in its way.
- 41:38It kind of is. There's some beauty to it there.
- 41:40He was filming himself at that moment, you know what I mean?
- 41:43I The one thing I wish he had done was like plucked a flower
- 41:47and stuck it behind his ear. Yeah, that would have been nice.
- 41:51Yeah, what about you? Well, First off, why did Dante's
- 42:00fiance, I can't even remember her name now, Ruth.
- 42:03Ruth, why did she feel like she had to go along with them?
- 42:06That was just so strange to me. Melody wanted to go with her
- 42:09because she felt guilty that Virginia was having a heart
- 42:12attack and they she just felt responsible and she wanted to go
- 42:16with her. But the investors were getting
- 42:17there, so Dante and Melody both needed to be there, so Ruth
- 42:21agreed to go with her. They are.
- 42:23They are a group of idealists, after all.
- 42:25They have to. They have to put in a show of
- 42:28good. Faith I just thought it was
- 42:29strange that they like jammed themselves in there.
- 42:31Like last thing I would want is the person that caused us to be
- 42:34in the back of the ambulance. With I'm sure if she could have
- 42:36talked, she would have been like, no, I got I got my boy
- 42:40here. I'm pretty sure.
- 42:41Did you? Bubba was not having it either.
- 42:43He didn't want it. Maybe, maybe the van wouldn't
- 42:45have crashed and they could have gotten her to the hospital.
- 42:48Yeah, it could have been in a completely different situation.
- 42:50Yeah. Also the fact that the chainsaw
- 42:52still runs after 50 years. Did it have gas?
- 42:56The gas would have evaporated. I know you're thinking of our
- 42:59old weed wacker right now. No, I am now though, yeah.
- 43:04Because that one, like you don't use it for a week and a half and
- 43:07it's like I don't. Want to do?
- 43:08Anything anymore? Yeah, and finally, just Sally's
- 43:14confrontation with Leatherface is just so fucking stupid and
- 43:17absurd. Just the whole like, do you know
- 43:19who I am? And then he just walks away.
- 43:21And honestly, it's you could cut that out and the movie really
- 43:25wouldn't be different. Should actually.
- 43:27I honestly, before we started watching it, forgot that it even
- 43:31brought back Sally. That should have been a deleted
- 43:33scene for. Sure.
- 43:34Yeah, yeah. All right, let's do our ratings.
- 43:38Overall, like it's not my favorite in the series.
- 43:42I don't think it's as bad as people give it credit for.
- 43:44I wish they had just had as much fun making it as they could have
- 43:48and should have. I think I'll give it a 6 1/2.
- 43:51Oh, OK, I'm giving -6 OK, I'm right there with you.
- 43:54I don't. I don't hate it as much as most
- 43:56people do. Most people seem to hate it, but
- 43:59yeah, I don't. Whatever.
- 44:00It's not. It's not enough of a movie to be
- 44:04hateable. Yeah, absolutely.
- 44:05It does enough well for me to have a good time.
- 44:08Yeah, OK. Well then. 6.25 starting
- 44:12average. All right, that's not too
- 44:13shabby. Let's get into it.
- 44:17So we started off with a voice over.
- 44:19Apparently I actually done. John Lerquit.
- 44:23John Lerquit attacking just recapping what happened in 1973.
- 44:28We all know the story of it now, right?
- 44:30I. Actually kind of do like this
- 44:31presentation though. It's AV 8, just tape that's
- 44:34like. Texas unsolved mystery.
- 44:36Yeah, it's like ATV show and like they do like re imaginings
- 44:40and stuff. I thought it was kind of neat.
- 44:42Listen, is this a thing in Texas?
- 44:45Because I feel like we see it in a lot of Texas based horror
- 44:48movies. Like gas station clerks are
- 44:50watching TV. Yeah, you're right.
- 44:54Or no, no, no. X Yeah, yeah.
- 44:56I feel like a lot of time our capitalist overlords don't like
- 45:01us to have anything that could potentially take away from the
- 45:04drudgery of the day. Sometimes even a radio is.
- 45:10We got somebody knocking on our door.
- 45:12Hold on a second. OK, Sorry.
- 45:13It's just gonna be a little bit barky right now with some people
- 45:16trying to mow our lawn for us. Yeah, some kids trying to get
- 45:20some cash, Yeah. Anyway, the cashier tells Lila
- 45:24that Sally really like this is all true.
- 45:27Sally is a Texas Ranger now, and they tell him that they're
- 45:31headed to Harlow and he's like, yeah, I've heard of you.
- 45:36And I start walking out. He calls them ginger fuckers.
- 45:39I like that whoever did the police sketch was dead on, you
- 45:44know, like it was like, that's the iconic weather phase will
- 45:47look right there. And so the rest of the group is
- 45:50out at the pump getting some gas, and a truck pulls up next
- 45:53to him, and Melody loudly talks about how his gun must be
- 45:57compensating for something. If you're going to be in Texas,
- 46:02you got to be a little bit calmer about seeing guns at
- 46:05least. It's just kind of normal.
- 46:06Yeah, yeah. I mean, also, I feel like that
- 46:09was kind of like, I understand that she was doing that as like
- 46:12a protective thing for her sister there, but that was
- 46:14really kind of like aggressive to somebody that wasn't really
- 46:17needing that. Like she thinks that she like
- 46:21owned him here or something, but he's just over there gassing up.
- 46:24He wasn't even like a Dick to them.
- 46:25He just like, stopped at the pump.
- 46:26He was like, wild boar is pretty common around here.
- 46:30Yeah. Like, it's so common.
- 46:31There's like a whole episode in the new season at King of the
- 46:34Hill dedicated to wild boar. Yeah, you're right.
- 46:36I forgot about that. Yeah.
- 46:39But they. Yeah.
- 46:39And so they have like a little bit of like a uncomfortable
- 46:43confrontation there, but they move on.
- 46:45Melanie and Dante, they have this whole plan.
- 46:48They've bought this town, they're going to auction off the
- 46:50buildings they want to, they have a food truck together, they
- 46:53want to make a full restaurant, and they want to invite all of
- 46:55their creative friends and associates to build up the town
- 46:58as well. It's like an influencer
- 47:01paradise, basically. Yeah, which sounds stressful in
- 47:05some ways. Yeah, I do want to actually give
- 47:08credit to the cops in this movie because they pull the group over
- 47:12and they're like, hey, we're cops, We're going to be here
- 47:15just in case there's any trouble because you're all's plane is
- 47:18not too popular. I like that they're being
- 47:19proactive, and they're just like, we're going to be on hand
- 47:21in case issues arise. Yeah, they weren't being
- 47:24needlessly aggressive. No, they were understanding.
- 47:26Yeah. Like, Oh yeah, you're the good
- 47:28guy. Yeah, whatever.
- 47:28Just let us know if you need this.
- 47:29Yeah, and I, I kind of appreciate that cause a lot of
- 47:32times like they're useless in these movies.
- 47:35Yeah, yeah. Especially these movies.
- 47:37Yeah. So they arrive in town.
- 47:40It is abandoned. Yeah, and it's in the middle,
- 47:43like the middle of nowhere in Texas is intense because I
- 47:48believe, I fully believe it when Lila says it's a 7 hour drive to
- 47:52get anywhere. Yeah, yeah, it's fucking massive
- 47:55over there. So yeah, they're just looking
- 47:58around, trying to, you know, think of what, what things are
- 48:02going to look like. And then they meet their
- 48:04contractor, Richter. Except they've met him before
- 48:08because he was the guy at the gas station.
- 48:10Yeah, Oh my God, it's so awkward.
- 48:14Yeah, Dante tries to save face real quick and try and, you
- 48:16know, be good, have a good conversation with them.
- 48:20They noticed that there is a flag, though, a Confederate flag
- 48:24hanging up on one of the buildings.
- 48:25And they're like, we need to get that down because if any of our
- 48:28potential investors see that they're all going to bolt.
- 48:32That's fair. Yeah.
- 48:33I mean, obviously that flag in what it represents is not
- 48:37anything good. Yeah, I think some people don't
- 48:40even understand what it is. I think some people are just
- 48:43like South. Yeah, that's not what it is, no.
- 48:46It's there's like a lot of, there's a lot of meaning to that
- 48:49flag. Yeah.
- 48:51And then some people will be like, it's about states rights,
- 48:54and you have to say states rights to do what you have to
- 48:58finish the sentence. Go on.
- 48:59Yeah. Like.
- 49:07I I just want to call her Miss Krieg.
- 49:09Like, I don't know why she Virginia.
- 49:12Yeah, Yeah, She. She's like, oh, no, I paid.
- 49:15I paid. The banquet was owed.
- 49:16And they're like, no, you can't be here.
- 49:18We're gonna evict you. And she's like, no.
- 49:20And then she's like, oh, you're upset about the flag.
- 49:22It's fine. I've had plenty of boys like
- 49:24you. No.
- 49:26Virginia. Yeah.
- 49:27Come on. Don't say stuff like that.
- 49:29There's a better way to handle that dialogue?
- 49:30Yeah, they're going in there. Oh, no, I actually that dialogue
- 49:34felt very true to life. Yeah, some people talk.
- 49:37No, it did. Yeah, it felt accurate.
- 49:39Very like again, it's a very ugly, really truth kind of
- 49:42moment. Yeah, I don't necessarily think
- 49:44she meant anything bad from it, but it was just kind of, it was
- 49:48not the right choice of words for anything.
- 49:50No. They're in there, by the way,
- 49:52because they're trying to like, get upstairs to take it down.
- 49:55But to her it's got some personal meanings.
- 49:58So her granddaddy put it up there.
- 50:00It's his flag and she doesn't want to take it down.
- 50:04So they're trying to get her out and the cops are there cuz
- 50:09they're like hey, we were on hand.
- 50:12We are real quick. Before that, though, Bubba steps
- 50:13on the staircase. Like, need help?
- 50:15Yeah. He's just like they're standing.
- 50:17All intimidating, you know? Yeah.
- 50:20And she collapses and throws up. And so they put her in the back
- 50:25of the cop van and they're going to take her to the hospital.
- 50:28Melody, again, she's feeling responsible for this.
- 50:32So she wants to go with her to hospital just to make sure she's
- 50:34OK. But the investors are there.
- 50:35So that's why Ruth agrees that she'll go just to make sure
- 50:38everything's OK. So that's what's happening, Lila
- 50:45tells Melody in the middle of all of this.
- 50:46Because she's being forced to be a part of this.
- 50:48She goes I don't want to be here, and if you make me live
- 50:50move here, I'm going to go live with that.
- 50:51And Melody's like I cannot handle one more goddamn thing
- 50:55right now. I don't blame her man, it's been
- 50:59pretty shitty the entire time. Pretty shitty, some of it by her
- 51:02own doing, but also like I, I felt her overwhelm in that
- 51:06moment and I was like, I've been there.
- 51:08Like I get that. Like I just can't.
- 51:10I can't focus on anything right now.
- 51:13Yeah, so we're in the ambulance. Virginia tells Bubba to stay out
- 51:17of her room. And then that was her dying,
- 51:21like her last words right there. Deathbed confession.
- 51:23Don't go in the room. Don't go in the.
- 51:25Room never want to hear that. And listen, the cop didn't
- 51:32handle the Super laser. I think the old broad croaked.
- 51:35Dude, that's. He's right there.
- 51:36He's her son, yeah. Yeah, it's, it's all pretty
- 51:41terrible here. And he's freaking out.
- 51:42He's trying to like, you know, spin the gas nozzle and he's
- 51:45like, OK, like, get us more oxygen like.
- 51:47He's trying to do something and the cops just like staring at.
- 51:50Him, the cop grabs his hands like son, stop it.
- 51:53And then that's when the leather face takes his arm, breaks it,
- 51:56uses the exposed bone to stab him in the fucking neck.
- 52:00Would this would happen if the cop hadn't touched him?
- 52:03No, no, if everybody would just leave him alone.
- 52:07Just leave him alone. You will be OK.
- 52:10Oh boy. But they found out the hard way.
- 52:12It. Makes me think of Ben Stiller at
- 52:14the end of Meet the Parents. He's like, if you'll just let
- 52:16leave me alone and let me do what I want to do, I'll be fine.
- 52:20Oh, with a bomb. Yeah.
- 52:21A. Bomb a bomb bomb.
- 52:24So this is somehow, I can't remember exactly how, but the
- 52:27cop accidentally shoots the driver.
- 52:29Yeah, like I think he's trying to get the gun out to shoot
- 52:33Bubba, but the sheriff gets shot instead, so they crash.
- 52:38Meanwhile, back in Harlow, the auction has started and Lila
- 52:42can't be fucked with it. So she goes and chit chats with
- 52:45Richter and she's kind of looking at the gun and he's
- 52:51like, do you have any experience with them?
- 52:53She was, yeah. It's like I've.
- 52:56Never shot one, been shot at. She goes Stone Brook high and he
- 53:00goes oh shit. And like, you can see those like
- 53:04pieces click where he's like, oh, that's why your sister was a
- 53:06tick to me. Yeah.
- 53:08Yeah. But then again, she's over there
- 53:09just picking up his assault rifle and just, you know,
- 53:12checking it out. I think she's trying to like,
- 53:14take control of it, you know what I mean?
- 53:15And she just kind of trauma dumps casually on this stranger.
- 53:18She's like, yeah, everybody expects me to be real special
- 53:20now, but it's my friend service special one.
- 53:22I've got really horrible survivor skill that's fun.
- 53:25No, no. Then tells Dante that Virginia
- 53:28died and Dante's like oh. He's like, but we auctioned off
- 53:33all our buildings and she's like, I'm just, I'm going to
- 53:37leave. I'm going to go look for Lila.
- 53:39Ruth, meanwhile, in the van, is. She wakes up.
- 53:44She wakes up. Seeing Yeah bloody.
- 53:46She sees in the rearview mirror that Weather Face has gotten out
- 53:50of the back of the van and has his Mama on the ground peeling
- 53:54her face off. And her, like, talking quietly
- 53:57into the radio, trying to get anybody.
- 53:58And like, we just hear it in the gas station where she's like Oh
- 54:02my God, Oh my God, he's peeling her face.
- 54:04And then cashier goes, thank God.
- 54:06This is the only documentary I watch.
- 54:08I know he. Calls up Sally and he's like,
- 54:12listen, I feel reasonably certain I've got your guy.
- 54:17Yeah, yeah. And then we see Sally getting
- 54:20all dressed up and suited up. She's bringing the whole fucking
- 54:24Armory with her. Yep, Bubba comes around to the
- 54:28driver's side. I just gave up.
- 54:29He was just Bubba in my nose this whole time.
- 54:31He's always. Bubba, yeah, he just kills off
- 54:35the sheriff, who I didn't even realize was still alive, and
- 54:38takes. A oxygen tank and bludgeons him
- 54:40with. A Ruth has the good sense too.
- 54:45Shut up. Yeah, she plays that.
- 54:47That's very smart. Yeah.
- 54:48And then he goes around back and he's doing whatever it is that
- 54:52he's doing. And she realizes she can't get
- 54:54out on her side. Like the door is jammed, the
- 54:56windows jammed. She's got to climb through the
- 54:59driver's side. So she starts to do that.
- 55:02And again, big but silent. This motherfucker just pops up
- 55:08right behind her and gets her. I always I just feel like I have
- 55:12to add that moment where he peels off the face and like
- 55:16holds it up into the sun. I don't know why but I always
- 55:19think fruit roll up. That doesn't.
- 55:24That's an inside thought, Travis.
- 55:28Yeah, I don't know that that could just be me.
- 55:32So Richter hears about Virginia and he just strolls right up to
- 55:39the bus, grabs the bus keys, takes Melody's car keys, and
- 55:43she's like, what the fuck are you doing?
- 55:44I was trying to leave. And he goes, that woman died,
- 55:47you kicked her out of your house.
- 55:49Proof that it's your house. And then I'll give you the.
- 55:51Keys back, which I I get the petty point he's making.
- 55:57Legally, I don't think he can hold him there.
- 55:59And I feel like if the cops came back, he would have given the
- 56:01keys back easily enough. And he's trying to make a point,
- 56:03yeah. And.
- 56:05He didn't know that Bubba was going to start killing.
- 56:08I don't think he knew Bubba was Bubba.
- 56:11No, I don't think he did either. As far as they know, he's just
- 56:14like an orphan. And here's.
- 56:15The thing we've seen this in multiple Movies Now where like
- 56:19if he is with a nice kindly matriarch that like understands
- 56:23he just wants to do his little crafts with his bones, he's
- 56:28fine. He's maintained.
- 56:31That's what I mean, yeah, you. Just have to be nice to him.
- 56:34Yeah, man, this movie just makes you feel so bad for him.
- 56:37He's in the orphanage because of all of the events that happened.
- 56:41He has no family now, so he goes there and.
- 56:43He just because of all of the original sequels where his
- 56:45family's died again and again from the.
- 56:47Families, multiple families lost this man tragic.
- 56:54Anyway, this is going to cause a lot of problems.
- 56:57So Dante looks through all of their files, but it's not
- 57:00actually a really nice file case and but they can't find the deed
- 57:03for that particular house. She goes, Oh my God, please tell
- 57:06me that you have it. He goes some of them process
- 57:08longer is probably just back at the office in Dallas, which
- 57:10actually honestly seems really reasonable.
- 57:14I think he needs to have a little bit more care.
- 57:17But I think Mel also needs to be like, yeah, that probably makes
- 57:19sense. And she goes well.
- 57:20And Lila is like, well, if the deed isn't in the house, then
- 57:27that proves that you probably have it in Dallas.
- 57:31How are you? How do you you can't prove a
- 57:34negative? Like how do you search a house
- 57:36enough to not find a deed? You know what I mean?
- 57:40Yeah, I guess, yeah. Like.
- 57:43Also, where do you, like, where would you even begin to look?
- 57:45You don't know these people sorting, you know, like how do
- 57:48you know where they're gonna put that?
- 57:49Yeah, I don't even know where we put some of our important shit.
- 57:52I mean, I know where our important shit is.
- 57:54I know where it is too, but there's some things that like, I
- 57:56would have to think about it for a second, but where the fuck is
- 57:58that? Where would I put that?
- 57:59Where would Jesse put that? It's usually Jesse puts it up.
- 58:03Yeah, I'm the responsible one. Yeah, I got everything in a
- 58:07fireproof safe. That's true.
- 58:10Yeah, I've been worried about the fire.
- 58:13Well, they go over there, they dig around, and what do you
- 58:15know? It's still there.
- 58:17No. And Melody is immediately just
- 58:22like, tore up and she's about to go downstairs until Dante.
- 58:25Except Dante has met the rightful owner of the house.
- 58:31Yep, Weatherface came back in and he won't.
- 58:34I won't say he killed him, but he hurt him real bad here.
- 58:37Yeah, they tried to kind of like recreate that iconic scene of
- 58:42pulling them through the door, but it's a little bit different.
- 58:45Yeah, it's one of those western saloon doors that go back and
- 58:50forth. Yeah.
- 58:52So Melody hides and Bubba comes upstairs cuz Mama said don't go
- 58:58in the room so. What do you do?
- 58:59You go into the room. And outside, he hears the the
- 59:04auction finish up and everybody's gonna go party on
- 59:06the bus. And he's like, you know what?
- 59:08No, he is. This is.
- 59:10Mad. We are in mourning, Yeah, we are
- 59:15not drinking on a bus. So he goes downstairs, grabs the
- 59:20sledgehammer he used to attack Dante, and starts busting open
- 59:23the wall. And that's because that's where
- 59:26he hit the chainsaw. No, I have to assume that
- 59:29Virginia hit the chainsaw in the wall and she hid it in the in
- 59:32the wall of her room so it would be extra safe.
- 59:35But how did he know exactly where to open it?
- 59:37Well, she told him again as their contingency plan.
- 59:40Oh, right, right. Sure, in case of emergency brake
- 59:43drywall. Yeah, yeah.
- 59:47Yeah, so it it starts raining outside, the party moves on to
- 59:52the bus. Melody is trying to signal to
- 59:54them outside that something's happening, but he comes back
- 59:57into the room so she has to go under the bed.
- 1:00:02And Dante, Yeah. Dante is alive, Yeah, surprising
- 1:00:05somehow. And he's like walking to the
- 1:00:07bus. And Catherine comes out at the
- 1:00:09same time. Richter is coming out of the
- 1:00:11shop, and Richter, when he sees his face, goes shit.
- 1:00:14OK, always thought always thought maybe Bubba was
- 1:00:17Leatherface. This confirms it.
- 1:00:19I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go find your friend and give her keys.
- 1:00:22Like, we gotta take care of this.
- 1:00:24And Catherine's like, what the fuck?
- 1:00:25And he's like, get on the bus. His jaw's like hanging off here.
- 1:00:29It's it's. Bad.
- 1:00:30It's bad. Yep.
- 1:00:32So Richter goes inside and heads upstairs.
- 1:00:34He's got his gun drawn. I kind of like the scene here
- 1:00:37where Mel is hiding under the bed and she's like trying to
- 1:00:40warn him. So like she sticks her foot out
- 1:00:42and he sees the foot under the bed and he's like what the fuck?
- 1:00:44And then she tilts the mirror just enough behind the door to
- 1:00:47see Leatherface hiding, waiting for him, and Leatherface just
- 1:00:51pounces. They get into a big.
- 1:00:53Wrestling match but he like he's losing the match because of
- 1:00:58course he is. He does unclip the keys from his
- 1:01:00belt though and tries to like shove them under the bed.
- 1:01:05So Sally finds the scene of the crash and she hears the radio
- 1:01:09calling for a dead body in Harlow saying you guys are the
- 1:01:12closest ones. I feel like as a Texas Ranger,
- 1:01:15she should be acknowledging that radio call and say, hey, I will
- 1:01:19head to Harlow because she's headed to Harlow anyway.
- 1:01:22She's going to take care of the problem.
- 1:01:24Working on this, yeah. I don't know, maybe she was
- 1:01:26like, I want to do this myself. Maybe she Yeah, she's like off
- 1:01:29duty. They're like Sally.
- 1:01:31You need it. Sally.
- 1:01:32Sally. Mandatory vacation.
- 1:01:35Can you imagine if Franklin survived and he grew up to be
- 1:01:38the dispatcher? Man, that'd be a nightmare for.
- 1:01:42Everybody. There is some other alternate
- 1:01:45version of Texas Chainsaw where Franklin is a better old man in
- 1:01:50that house, and it's called Sally.
- 1:01:54Sally, anyway. Yep.
- 1:01:59Lila gets off the bus to go look for Melody, and Catherine is
- 1:02:04like just trying really hard to keep her on the bus.
- 1:02:07She's like, I don't know you, you don't mean anything to me.
- 1:02:10So she goes to look for Melody, and Melody has gotten the keys
- 1:02:13and she's trying to sneak out of the house, and the house is very
- 1:02:18creaky. So she gets on to the banister
- 1:02:22and then she kinda like lands you, and you want to land like
- 1:02:27kind of straddly on the stairs because the middle part's going
- 1:02:29to squeak more than the outer. Parts.
- 1:02:31Oh, is that what she was doing? See, I was.
- 1:02:32I was just thinking like, well if you're not trying to squeak,
- 1:02:35landing from the fucking second floor on one of the steps surely
- 1:02:39isn't going to make any sound. Yeah, but again, he is large,
- 1:02:44silent, but deadly. And he is right.
- 1:02:46There, I like that. Yeah, he just pops up, right?
- 1:02:48There and I like he throws her so hard she breaks through the
- 1:02:52floor. No, I like this.
- 1:02:53He throws the sled camera at her, which hits her so hard that
- 1:02:56she falls back through. Yeah, that was great.
- 1:02:58I like that. She crawls through the crawl
- 1:03:02space and then he ensures that his house will never actually be
- 1:03:05sold by giving it like just terrible structural foundational
- 1:03:09damage. And he also severs the plumbing
- 1:03:12which gets shit all over Mel. I you just know about the shits
- 1:03:18or like worship that dude. It's Texas shit.
- 1:03:22You know what I mean? If he's not eating raw meat, I.
- 1:03:25Mean of course he's eating raw meat.
- 1:03:29Oh man, Man, yeah. God.
- 1:03:32So Lila sees her at the grate of the the crawl space and helps
- 1:03:38her out and they both run to the bus and the bus driver starts
- 1:03:42driving but stops after being attacked by the chains on.
- 1:03:46They're like, hey, don't do that.
- 1:03:47It will get worse. And they're the driver's like,
- 1:03:49listen, I got a, I'm a bus driver.
- 1:03:52You have a responsibility. I know what I'm doing and he
- 1:03:56crashes the party on insta live. Yeah, yeah, they honestly.
- 1:04:01If I was watching a party and this happened, I'd be like, cool
- 1:04:04Halloween party, man. I know it would be like, it
- 1:04:07would be kind of cool. You would think it's like a
- 1:04:09publicity stunt, probably. Absolutely.
- 1:04:13Yeah, but holy shit, yeah, the one dude, it's kind of stupid.
- 1:04:16It's like you're going to get cancelled and holds up the phone
- 1:04:18to him. There's a terrible moment where
- 1:04:20the panic starts and Lila's knocked to the ground and she is
- 1:04:23laying around a bunch of people that are dying and it's like a
- 1:04:27same shot as what they showed from her.
- 1:04:29Yeah, at the school shooting. Surrounded by bodies.
- 1:04:32And luckily, Melody picks her up.
- 1:04:34And then going to the bathroom. This scene is like, it's so
- 1:04:37intense because you're on a bus. Yeah.
- 1:04:42How do you get around a person that's as big as a bus aisle?
- 1:04:45You just have to hope somebody else is getting chainsawed.
- 1:04:48And that's gross to like hope for, but that's the only way you
- 1:04:51can get out. Nobody wants to be the one to
- 1:04:54sacrifice themselves, but you have to be thinking like ants.
- 1:04:57Here you have. To attack in.
- 1:04:58Numbers, OK, you would win. Eventually there's going to be
- 1:05:02some losses, but not everybody dies.
- 1:05:06But yeah, Mel and Lila, they they.
- 1:05:09They climb through like the the skylight in the bathroom.
- 1:05:13Yeah, and Sally picks them up. Yeah, she's right there.
- 1:05:17Except Sally, you bastard. She is using them for bait.
- 1:05:22Yeah, she's like, for some reason he wants you and I'm
- 1:05:24gonna use you. So she just locks them in the
- 1:05:27car? Yeah, she gets out and she's got
- 1:05:30a the gun drawn. She knows where he went to.
- 1:05:32I think she sees him walk towards the orphanage again
- 1:05:34after his massacre. She has this Polaroid from where
- 1:05:39they were all trying not to murder Franklin in the van I.
- 1:05:43Was wondering was like it would have been funny if that was the
- 1:05:46picture the hitchhiker took. I mean, it had to have been
- 1:05:51right? But didn't he burn it?
- 1:05:54He got mad that nobody liked his picture so he just burned.
- 1:05:57He got mad that they weren't willing to pay for it.
- 1:05:59Oh, OK. Well, yeah, either way, I don't
- 1:06:01think it's the same picture unfortunately, but that would
- 1:06:03have been cool. Yeah, So she goes in there and
- 1:06:06she's reading off their names. And he's like, I had, I've got,
- 1:06:10I've got people to kill. You're first in, first out.
- 1:06:14OK. Like I have to service people
- 1:06:16one at a time. Oh, you're still here And just
- 1:06:19walks right past her and she doesn't do anything.
- 1:06:21She just lets him walk past and then the next shot we see him
- 1:06:25just bash through her car to try and attack the other two.
- 1:06:29And she comes and she confronts him, tosses then the keys.
- 1:06:32Finally. Yeah, but because she waited too
- 1:06:36long, she lost her edge. And he like just shoves a full
- 1:06:40chainsaw through her. He hides in the alley, which I
- 1:06:43think is kind of cool. He's like, he's using old man
- 1:06:46tactics too, you know? Yeah, I'm not as surprised as I
- 1:06:48used to be. So I'm going to have to deceive
- 1:06:49you a little bit. So he starts doing like, distant
- 1:06:51like. But then again, that means like
- 1:06:53he's running the one in and running to the other than bring,
- 1:06:57unless he's got these chainsaws staged throughout the town like
- 1:07:02the horses here in Lexington, so.
- 1:07:05Melody has started the truck. She sees Sally's dead.
- 1:07:09Sally's told them. Oh no, she hasn't given these
- 1:07:12words yet. Just kidding.
- 1:07:13She drives the truck at Bubba. Bubba is like, you saw me hiding
- 1:07:20in an alley, you saw me hiding behind a door, but you think I'm
- 1:07:23just going to let you hit me with a truck?
- 1:07:24No, I'm going to throw the fucking chainsaw at you.
- 1:07:28So they crash into a building and.
- 1:07:33It's in Richter's place, I think.
- 1:07:34Yeah, yeah. And you know what happens?
- 1:07:36Mel gets stabbed through the leg, and she tells Lila she's
- 1:07:39like, he's going to kill me. There's no way around this.
- 1:07:42You've got to run. Yep.
- 1:07:44Bubba starts to approach. But you know what?
- 1:07:46Lila has Richter's gun. Yeah, but it's not loaded.
- 1:07:49It's just a quick. But it's enough to distract him.
- 1:07:53They are outside and she passes by the garbage.
- 1:07:58He puts Sally's body in it, and she's alive.
- 1:08:02Yeah, yeah, and she gives. He's cut her in half and thrown
- 1:08:05her in the garbage, but she's still alive enough to reload her
- 1:08:07gun and say kill him because he will follow you forever.
- 1:08:10Yeah, so he will haunt you if you don't like.
- 1:08:12If you run away, you cannot run away.
- 1:08:14Trust me. So she goes looking for Bubba as
- 1:08:16Melody works on getting yourself free.
- 1:08:19There is a chainsaw fake out. He sets it again in the floor.
- 1:08:22Yeah, he's. A crafty.
- 1:08:23He's a crafty. Little guy and he tackles her
- 1:08:28into the pool. Yeah, this pool of water is, I
- 1:08:31think this is like the theater or something.
- 1:08:33I think it's a literal indoor pool.
- 1:08:35No, it's like a hole in the floor.
- 1:08:37I think they had an indoor pool that they put the floor over.
- 1:08:41I have reasons for thinking this that I will explain off air
- 1:08:44'cause they're. Off air, it's too, too crazy for
- 1:08:49us to go over here. Relate it to personal life and I
- 1:08:52don't want to get into that. Oh, OK.
- 1:08:55Well, I'm sorry everybody. It's obviously because of our
- 1:08:57indoor pool, Travis. That we have on our four boards.
- 1:09:01Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:09:02So she, I don't know how she manages to escape, but she
- 1:09:05manages to crawl out of there and, you know, wrinkle herself
- 1:09:09free. But he just launches himself out
- 1:09:11of the water and grabs her. But guess what?
- 1:09:14Mel is here and she attacks. They work together.
- 1:09:17They do some sister work and they end up shooting him.
- 1:09:20Mel hits him with the chainsaw and he sinks in the pool.
- 1:09:24We have a sister hug and they go outside and they take trophies
- 1:09:30from Sally's death. Yeah, it's weird.
- 1:09:33Like they're like everybody's like positive and optimistic
- 1:09:36now, Like, hey, we, all of our friends died.
- 1:09:38Everybody died. We just uppercutted this fucking
- 1:09:41guy with a chainsaw. Let's let's go.
- 1:09:43Let's fucking go. So they get in the car, set the
- 1:09:47autopilot, it starts to drive. Bubba pops out, grabs Melody,
- 1:09:53cuts her head off. Oh, my God.
- 1:09:55And then all I can do is just look back and watch an horror.
- 1:09:59Oh my God. But that's like a good parallel,
- 1:10:01kind of of like the ending of the first one where she's just
- 1:10:04looking. Yeah.
- 1:10:05She can't control it. She's just having to watch
- 1:10:09whatever is happening. I like that ending.
- 1:10:11Yeah. And it kind of comes out of
- 1:10:12nowhere. And I just like the fact that he
- 1:10:14just takes the head and just chainsaws are right off right
- 1:10:16there. It's effective.
- 1:10:19I like it. I.
- 1:10:19Was life, man. She's doing some rough stuff.
- 1:10:23Yeah, and then we have after credits.
- 1:10:25Yeah, we see Bubba. He's walking down the driveway
- 1:10:28to his first home. OG home, you know.
- 1:10:32What? I'll bump it slightly and we'll
- 1:10:35give it a 6.75. Okay, yeah, I'll make mine a 6
- 1:10:381/2. Yeah, I still do kind of have
- 1:10:41fun with this movie. I don't hate it as much as most
- 1:10:44people do. Yeah, yeah, it does plenty well.
- 1:10:47You know who had a really intense time with this?
- 1:10:49Towel. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:51When Bubba and Richter were fighting, she was having one of
- 1:10:56the most intense, mean dreams we have ever seen her have.
- 1:11:00It was like the yeah, the. Gary Snarl.
- 1:11:02Her teeth, yeah. Oh my God, she was not happy.
- 1:11:05I. Think Toddy would give this an
- 1:11:068? Yeah, yeah, I think so too.
- 1:11:09Zoe's ultimate warrior. Man, that's a tough one.
- 1:11:17We can't do Leatherface either, unfortunately.
- 1:11:27I think we might have to go with the.
- 1:11:35Thing is, we can't spend a lot of time thinking this over
- 1:11:37because it's a live episode now too.
- 1:11:39This is why we don't do this stuff on the 2 VS God.
- 1:11:43OK, let's just say that this is gonna be Dante.
- 1:11:52Why? Because he wants to set an
- 1:11:54entire town based around food. OK, that's fair.
- 1:11:56Yeah, OK. OK, so we've got all that.
- 1:12:02Who did you relate? To I asked you first.
- 1:12:05I guess I probably related to. Oh, I know that.
- 1:12:10I relate to I, I really see the gas station guy watching true
- 1:12:13crime documentaries. You know, I, I throw a show like
- 1:12:16that on when I'm working too, you know, it's just, it's just
- 1:12:19good sense, OK? I guess I relate to, I don't
- 1:12:28know who I relate to one of the party bus people, just because I
- 1:12:32always wanted to go on a party bus.
- 1:12:34Would you hold your phone at somebody if they came in?
- 1:12:36No, no, I don't think so. No, I'd be embarrassed about
- 1:12:40that. OK, Absolutely.
- 1:12:43All right, well, we don't do dream sequels.
- 1:12:47We do not. But we do name the movies and
- 1:12:50this franchise because they're so confusing.
- 1:12:52This is the Netflix 1. Yeah, the Netflix one.
- 1:12:55That's an easy. One, yeah, there's there's no
- 1:12:57other option for it. It's the Netflix one.
- 1:12:59Yeah. OK.
- 1:13:01What is a new tag line? What is a new tag line we have?
- 1:13:04A new tag line. Unless we just wanna keep
- 1:13:07farewell to Texas. Farewell to Texas.
- 1:13:11No, I don't think that fits this one.
- 1:13:13OK. Man, that's tough.
- 1:13:22Don't go in my room. Whatever you 2 don't go in my
- 1:13:28room. The final face off.
- 1:13:32Oh, that's good. The final face off.
- 1:13:35I like that. OK, yeah.
- 1:13:37OK, cool. All right, we do.
- 1:13:41What would Dom do here? I think we do, yes.
- 1:13:45Yeah. What would Dom do here?
- 1:13:48He wouldn't have taken somebody's house without making
- 1:13:50sure explicitly that he had the deed.
- 1:13:52Yeah, you're right. I think that's what Dom would
- 1:13:55do. He would like make sure that all
- 1:13:57the paperwork was there. Call somebody from the Dallas
- 1:14:00office and say hey Jesse cuz I'm just assuming that Jesse is
- 1:14:05alive in this. No, it's not you.
- 1:14:07No, no, it's Jesse. It's the mad scientist.
- 1:14:10Yeah. The mad.
- 1:14:11Scientist. Hey, mad scientist, pull our
- 1:14:16files and make sure we got a deed to whatever this address
- 1:14:19is. No.
- 1:14:21OK, OK, I'm going to go talk to her because I think she needs to
- 1:14:23understand the significance of the Confederate flag and why
- 1:14:26it's not OK to be flying it in 2022.
- 1:14:29And then perhaps we'll strike a deal.
- 1:14:31But I understand how important it is to have your family home.
- 1:14:34OK. And then she makes him tea, and
- 1:14:36he's very grateful for it because he's friends with Helen
- 1:14:38Mirren. I was.
- 1:14:39Going to say it'd be a very much that kind of relationship right
- 1:14:42here. Yeah.
- 1:14:42And obviously they drive real fast for a second, you know,
- 1:14:44because you gotta. Well, yeah, And then she just
- 1:14:47has a heart attack because she's old, not because she's being
- 1:14:49kicked out. And he's like, I can get you to
- 1:14:51the hospital so fucking fast. OK, well, that this is starting
- 1:14:55to turn into another horror movie situation where Bubba is
- 1:14:57going to kill him because Bubba, Yeah, you did this.
- 1:15:00You drove too. Fast.
- 1:15:01They would get there on time though.
- 1:15:02That's what I'm saying. It would happen this time that
- 1:15:04we get there in time to save her, so he'd be OK with it.
- 1:15:07OK, OK, we got that. OK, All right, let's do some
- 1:15:12reviews then. Yeah.
- 1:15:14OK, so I, well, I didn't expect this to be positive, so I went
- 1:15:19with the positive. But that's OK because it's gonna
- 1:15:21balance out some negatives that we have later on.
- 1:15:23So I've got a positive to share with you guys.
- 1:15:26Here it is in eight out of 10. It's on IMDb.
- 1:15:30This is it's titled This was stupid, but it was also stupid
- 1:15:34fun. OK.
- 1:15:36I watched this movie back in 2022 when it first came out on
- 1:15:39Netflix and I liked it. I decided to rewatch the movie
- 1:15:41today for this review and I still really enjoyed it.
- 1:15:44Now don't get me wrong, this movie is terrible, but I still
- 1:15:46had a lot of fun with the movie while still having some problems
- 1:15:49with it. Positives for Texas Chainsaw
- 1:15:51Massacre there is a lot of carnage candy on display for you
- 1:15:55and you will enjoy every minute of it.
- 1:15:56I also like some of the characters in this movie,
- 1:15:59particularly Lila played by Elsie Fisher.
- 1:16:03The cinematography in this movie looks amazing.
- 1:16:06I like that this movie just gets to the point of why we watch
- 1:16:08these movies. And finally, I like the ending
- 1:16:11of this movie as it sets up the next week sequel in a great way.
- 1:16:15Negatives. The way how this movie
- 1:16:18reintroduces is to God what a fucking sentence to Sally
- 1:16:22Hardesty is really stupid, completely pointless and blatant
- 1:16:25RIP off of Halloween 2018. Boom.
- 1:16:29There are certain lines of dialogue that I didn't like at
- 1:16:32all and I don't understand why they included them in the final
- 1:16:34product. And finally, I wasn't OK with a
- 1:16:36lot of the blood and gore being CGI for the most part.
- 1:16:40Some of it was CGI, just mostly practical actually.
- 1:16:44Overall, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 is a stupid movie that if
- 1:16:48you watch it with the right lens you'll enjoy it, but if you
- 1:16:50don't then you'll absolutely hate this movie.
- 1:16:52For me, enjoy this movie away and I can't wait for the sequel.
- 1:16:55OK. Yeah.
- 1:16:57I think that actually really sums up well a lot of what we've
- 1:17:00said. I think so too, Yeah.
- 1:17:02Like, I mean, it's just it's a Texas Chainsaw movie.
- 1:17:05It's not like high art right here, you know?
- 1:17:08We're just looking for Bubba, like chainsaw some people up and
- 1:17:12you know, sometimes feel sad for him.
- 1:17:14We feel real sad for him in this movie.
- 1:17:16He's become, he's become our precious little boy.
- 1:17:18Oh. Yes, but like, also, yeah, the
- 1:17:21gore is fantastic. In this movie, probably one of
- 1:17:24the best kills in the whole franchise.
- 1:17:26Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 1:17:28OK, so I got some reviews. OK, so let's start off over here
- 1:17:31on Instagram we have Marnie, who says shite apart from the
- 1:17:36ending. OK, OK, I always see ending work
- 1:17:39for you. I've, I've heard some people
- 1:17:40don't really like the ending, but I, you know, I like it.
- 1:17:45Constant reader Kentucky says old Leatherface is cool.
- 1:17:48The rest, not so much. Jason, Well, go figure, you guys
- 1:17:53like your old man. Go figure, Jason likes an old
- 1:17:55man. Hey man, I I agree the old man
- 1:17:58leatherface is cool. I like old man Leatherface OK.
- 1:18:02Yeah, we can talk about that in Romper's next time we're
- 1:18:05together. We're going to do we're going to
- 1:18:07talk about this movie in romper's next time, Cubesafe
- 1:18:12says Unearned ending, bad movie. OK, OK.
- 1:18:15I wonder what would make you feel like they can do that,
- 1:18:18though. I'm curious to know exactly what
- 1:18:20it is that would give them the right to chainsaw somebody's
- 1:18:24head off like that in the end. Yeah.
- 1:18:27OK. So I don't have any anything on
- 1:18:32blue sky really. It was just like, I haven't seen
- 1:18:35this, OK, But you know, if you guys haven't seen it, you know,
- 1:18:38maybe check it out. You can just do like a trial to
- 1:18:41Netflix if you don't have it, you know, but I did do something
- 1:18:45different this time around. I took the TikTok this time,
- 1:18:48which you can actually kind of do that.
- 1:18:50And this actually did quite a bit of responses on them.
- 1:18:53OK, so one of them I think actually spun a whole discussion
- 1:18:58here. I'm not going to read the entire
- 1:18:59discussion but it started with this person saying it sucks they
- 1:19:04tried too hard to copy Halloween 2018 where Sally was this
- 1:19:07obsessed person that never got over the events of the first
- 1:19:10film and was and was so prepared slash gunned up to meet him
- 1:19:14again. Plus she didn't even do anything
- 1:19:16meaningful in it. If I remember correctly, it's a
- 1:19:19couple of shots in before being offed.
- 1:19:21Also, they tried too hard to make Weather face the Terminator
- 1:19:23slash Myers clone, a monster that essentially waves off any
- 1:19:26damage done to him. He's supposed to essentially be
- 1:19:29a normal person beefed up a bit, not the superhuman of a
- 1:19:32behemoth. OK, I can kind of see that.
- 1:19:36I mean, he has kind of been like that in the past.
- 1:19:38He's always been like a little bit extra than most people.
- 1:19:44But I, I'm not going to read the whole discussion there.
- 1:19:46This guy's like, OK, did you know, like, I went 2018 or H2O
- 1:19:50even, or like, whatever. I don't know.
- 1:19:52We're not going to get into it. OK.
- 1:19:54The Volta GFX says I'm probably the only one on Earth that likes
- 1:19:57this movie. None of the sequels have lived
- 1:19:59up to the original, and this one doesn't try to either.
- 1:20:02Kills were great, and certain moments almost feel like they're
- 1:20:04mocking typical slasher movie tropes.
- 1:20:07Example, building up the legacy character from the first movie
- 1:20:09only for her to get killed immediately because Leatherface
- 1:20:11don't give a fuck. I've watched it a few times
- 1:20:14trying to understand where all of the hate is coming from for
- 1:20:17this movie, but I always have a good time with it.
- 1:20:20Dog's Eye says this is better than any Texas Chainsaw movie
- 1:20:23over the last 15 years. Then there's somebody saying
- 1:20:27it's over hated, another saying it's bad, and then another
- 1:20:30saying it's actually OK. So we got.
- 1:20:32The full spec, yeah. Yeah, which I think it's kind of
- 1:20:35cool. But yeah, you know, like, yeah,
- 1:20:40this movie did try and do some of the Halloween 2018 stuff.
- 1:20:44I don't necessarily think that's bad.
- 1:20:46They didn't do some of those things as well as Halloween did,
- 1:20:50but they did some things just as well.
- 1:20:53Yeah, I think it's it's an enjoyable enough watch.
- 1:20:56Like it's not offensive. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:20:58Yeah, it's not the worst one in the series if you ask me.
- 1:21:02And if you want to hear what we think the worst one is in the
- 1:21:04series TuneIn this weekend. Yeah, this weekend we'll have
- 1:21:06our wrap up. We'll have.
- 1:21:06Our wrap up budget to your patrons.
- 1:21:09You will get your bonus episode next week for Halloween when
- 1:21:13you're talking about Idle and. Yeah, Oh my God, that is.
- 1:21:17That's just a fun movie. So excited to talk about it
- 1:21:20right now. You can watch it for free on
- 1:21:21Pluto, or you can rent it from Prime, YouTube, Google TV, Apple
- 1:21:25TV or Finn Day Go at home. Awesome.
- 1:21:27Yeah, definitely watch that if you haven't seen it.
- 1:21:29It's a fun. It's such a fun time, Devin Sawa
- 1:21:32and Seth Green those that those are the only ways you need to
- 1:21:35know. My God I completely forgot Seth
- 1:21:36Green is in that movie. How could you forget?
- 1:21:39Because I always think of Foggy, this is.
- 1:21:42This is why Talia is allowed to have Seth Green in the Buffy
- 1:21:45verse. She you got 1 episode where you
- 1:21:48get to call Seth Green every every other one's for Talia.
- 1:21:51She deserves them. OK, in the meantime, we would
- 1:21:54like to thank our budget to your bub or no, just all our bubbies
- 1:21:57in the Patreon. Joe Freakatron, as is his name.
