Transcript
- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the Aspy world.
- 0:04Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19OK guys, let's talk about RFK and the autism thing.
- 0:26So Robert F Kennedy Junior, he is the health secretary of
- 0:31America, I believe, or he's, I'm not entirely sure.
- 0:34So like American politics is different to UK politics.
- 0:37But anyway, he's come out saying that he's looking at different
- 0:40things. And two of the main things he's
- 0:41looking at is, is, is toxins in food that are unhealthy for
- 0:46people because he lives quite a healthy lifestyle, as far as I
- 0:50can tell. I mean, the guy's like, you
- 0:51know, jacked and he's like super old.
- 0:54And then the other thing is autism, this is like a big thing
- 0:58on his list. Now.
- 1:00He's released 2 statements on this and one was a big speech
- 1:04and one wasn't. The the first part where he said
- 1:08that his rhetoric is less than favorable in terms of autism.
- 1:15The way he speaks about it, he says like autistic individuals,
- 1:17it's like a disease for autism. It ruins families.
- 1:19Autistic individuals won't pay taxes, don't have normal lives.
- 1:23And you know, it's a, it's a really, I want to talk about it
- 1:29and I want you guys to chime in. And I really want to look at it
- 1:32from a, just a viewing perspective, like as an autistic
- 1:35adult myself with low support needs versus, you know, friends
- 1:38of mine who are high support needs and they can't speak
- 1:41right. So there are a lot of us with
- 1:43different issues and different needs.
- 1:45Now, the first thing is some autistic individuals will be so
- 1:53profoundly disabled that they won't be able to, you know, hold
- 1:57down a typical job or, or, or, or live independently.
- 2:01And I understand that. And that is a shame.
- 2:03And that is painful for the families.
- 2:04It's painful for the person because they want to be
- 2:06independent. You know, there's a person
- 2:07inside there that like, just wants to, to do things like
- 2:11anybody else. And that is a difficulty.
- 2:13It's, it's harsh. It's, it's hard going and it is
- 2:18difficult. But that doesn't make them any
- 2:20less of a person and it doesn't make them any less loved, right?
- 2:23Because they're still here, they still matter, they're still part
- 2:26of our community, and we should do everything to protect those
- 2:28people. Now, why is RFK saying this
- 2:34stuff? He's saying this stuff because
- 2:37he is trying to. He wants to figure out what is
- 2:40the cause of autism by September.
- 2:42Sorry, it sounds so funny saying, but what's the cause of
- 2:44autism by September? So in like 4 years, the rate of
- 2:49autism in the US went from like 1:00 in like 60 to one in 31
- 2:54kids diagnosed with autism. So he's calling it an epidemic.
- 2:58And I'm trying to figure how, how, how to best talk about this
- 3:03because it's such an interesting topic and it's very sensitive.
- 3:07And I want to do it from a kind of like just a viewpoint.
- 3:09I'm not going to take, you know, my emotions into this at the
- 3:12moment because there's a lot of people talking about their
- 3:15emotions. I think we need kind of a stable
- 3:17kind of look at it because there's a second part, which
- 3:18we'll get into in a minute. Now, when RFK said this stuff
- 3:21about autism, it kind of shocked me because I'm like, look, it's
- 3:23not a disease. And the research we have
- 3:27currently that's been done over like 80 years says that autism
- 3:30is genetic, right? Which means that we inherit
- 3:33those genes from ancestors. And, and kind of like one of
- 3:39the, one of the doctors I spoke to said that like, you know,
- 3:42maybe there's, you know, 1 grandparent has this kind of
- 3:47piece, you know, that relates to autism.
- 3:49And this grandparent has this piece and it comes together.
- 3:51And then your parent has a piece.
- 3:52And then the other parent has a piece.
- 3:53And then it comes together and gives it more of a volume in you
- 3:57as a, as a human being to be more prevalent on the spectrum
- 4:00because obviously it is a spectrum.
- 4:01And depending on how those genes kind of come together and how
- 4:04your brain develops, it's neurological, right?
- 4:07So there is no cure for autism. There's no reversing autism.
- 4:11And I'm not sure that he's looking for, I don't think RFK
- 4:16is looking for a cure for autism, right?
- 4:18I think he's just looking to stop the rate in which autism is
- 4:22increasing. Now this comes from the fact
- 4:26that he looked at data over 17 years of data and this data
- 4:33shows that the, the rate of autism is increasing and not
- 4:37just due to diagnostic criteria improvements, which is what I
- 4:40would say. Well, I did a video on this.
- 4:42I did a video on like why autism rates are increasing.
- 4:46And I, and I took to my knowledge, believe that it's the
- 4:49increase in the diagnostic kind of criteria that the, the
- 4:53ability to do it. Now, the technology we have is
- 4:55so much better. The education around diagnosing
- 4:57autism is way more relevant and we have some really good cutting
- 5:01edge assessment processes coming out, right?
- 5:05And I think that kind of, and then you have a backlog, right?
- 5:08You have people who who are in their 50s to their 20s who, who
- 5:13were missed out of those and diagnosis of their kids and then
- 5:15they get this kind of updated diagnosis.
- 5:17So this could account for the epidemic as RFK says.
- 5:21Hey, just a heads up guys, if there are any of you out there
- 5:22who are autistic and you're finding it hard or struggling to
- 5:26cope with situations right now, I actually have a program really
- 5:29affordable called Coping Secrets or Autism Coping Secrets.
- 5:33Now you can get access to this by visiting the link in the
- 5:35description down below and looking for Coping Secrets
- 5:37course, or you can go to learnautism.net/coping Secrets
- 5:42right now and get access to that course.
- 5:44It's highly recommended. It's my bestseller.
- 5:46Most people that come through my programs will take this one
- 5:49first and they swear by it's a seven step program.
- 5:52It's it's really good. Check it out.
- 5:54He also states a study that was done and it was a, a very, a
- 5:59very detailed study done over 17 years in the US and they took
- 6:04into account that type of data and that still left 97% of the
- 6:09cases down to like genetics, right?
- 6:13It wasn't, it wasn't because they've missed out kind of these
- 6:17are like new, but it was like not new bones, but like young,
- 6:21young kids. I think they were like 8 year
- 6:22olds. I think they're zero to 8,
- 6:23right. And, and so it kind of it, it
- 6:26kind of said the data conclude that it, that autism is rapidly
- 6:29increasing and there must be a reason for this.
- 6:32We don't know the reason, right, That, that that autism happens.
- 6:36We don't really know. We know it's genetic, but there
- 6:37is no actual, you know, data to suggest otherwise.
- 6:42And just like anything else, it's kind of like it, it
- 6:47happens. It's a natural occurrence and
- 6:50RFK is kind of like, it's a bit scary when he talks about it
- 6:53because he talks about autistic individuals like it's a drug on
- 6:55society and that kind of retrograde hurts, you know how I
- 6:59feel about it, but it also hurts the kind of the image of autism
- 7:02and, and it kind of, it's reminiscent of some really eerie
- 7:05weird stuff. Now, RFK might be a bit of a
- 7:08crazy, right? I don't really know.
- 7:09I don't know the guy. I, I only, and I'm not American,
- 7:12like I know a little bit about American politics and what I see
- 7:16on the news and what I hear in videos I see, but that is a
- 7:21little bit like off the wall. Now, the second part is he
- 7:26speaks about this autism registry thing.
- 7:28Well, it's been W autism registry.
- 7:29And basically what he wants to do is track data or access data
- 7:32from private healthcare records and smart data from like smart
- 7:36watches and things like that on people who are autistic and try
- 7:41to put together some kind of registry to find data points
- 7:44that match or, or come to a a point.
- 7:48Because he thinks he believes that it could be environmental,
- 7:50right? The cause of autism could be
- 7:51environmental. I don't think so.
- 7:55You know, I mean, OK, let's let's give a scenario.
- 7:58Yes, somebody could be in a car crash and they could have brain
- 8:01damage and that brain damage could mimic the symptomatic
- 8:04traits of autism. OK, I get that kind of
- 8:06environmental thing. But he's trying to say that I
- 8:08think what he's trying to lead to is that there's some
- 8:11environmental factor like pollution or toxins or something
- 8:14that's causing autism, right? Which I disagree with because I
- 8:18did a video all about how vaccines don't cause autism,
- 8:20right? Like there's, there's a bunch of
- 8:22like anti vax kind of people who say otherwise and, and they're
- 8:27allowed to believe and think what they want.
- 8:29And I'm allowed to believe and think what I want.
- 8:30And I don't believe as a chemist.
- 8:32I have a BSc, a bachelor's degree in chemistry.
- 8:36And the vaccines that we are exposed to, don't they, they're
- 8:42safe. They don't look like they're
- 8:43going to cause autism, right? But the bigger picture is, you
- 8:47know, RFK can have his, his, his thoughts on like what's causing
- 8:50autism and then he'll figure out that it's genetic and, you know,
- 8:54maybe it's a new stage in human evolution.
- 8:56I don't know. I'm just saying, I'm putting
- 8:57this out there. Please don't.
- 8:58I'm not going crazy. But the autism registry is, has
- 9:04entanglements and the entanglements are basically
- 9:06this. It's dangerous to collect
- 9:09private data on individuals, have them on a database,
- 9:11especially when they're vulnerable individuals who could
- 9:13be targeted for all kinds of things.
- 9:16This is private data, healthcare data, smartwatch data, who
- 9:20knows? And even more so, you don't know
- 9:23what the next level of government will do if they have
- 9:26access to that data. I mean, we've all seen
- 9:29horrendous things happen in history.
- 9:31And I'm not saying that any of this has been repeated.
- 9:32What I'm saying is that we have to be mindful of this.
- 9:36And I can admire that somebody wants to do something to help
- 9:39autistic individuals, but I don't know if this is the right
- 9:41help. And I don't think that creating
- 9:43an autism registry is going to be helpful to anybody apart from
- 9:47detrimental to the privacy of the lives of the people who
- 9:51they're collecting the data from.
- 9:52Now, this is just my personal thought.
- 9:53This is an edited video. This is just straighten the
- 9:55source. What do you guys think about it?
- 9:59You're in America, Let me know. Drop me a comment down below.
- 10:02I won't have this discussion. And as you can tell, I really, I
- 10:04reply to every single comment that I get.
- 10:07So please drop me a comment down below.
- 10:10Let's talk about it and thanks for joining this video.
- 10:12I know it's a bit of a random abrupt video and it's different
