- 0:06Brandan: This is The Sea Hawkers Podcast, episode 510.
- 0:11I'm Brandan Schulze of the Military Sea Hawkers, and I am joined by my good
- 0:15buddy and Montana Sea Hawker Adam Emmert, as our Seattle Seahawks go into week
- 0:22seven, a nice Sunday night football matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 0:28Adam: I'm not gonna lie, I've been waiting all day for Sunday night, and,
- 0:31then it's still not Sunday night.
- 0:32I- maybe I'm waiting on the wrong day.
- 0:34I don't know what it is, but the Seahawks at 3 and 3 take on an undefeated
- 0:38Chiefs team on Sunday night in Lumen.
- 0:41It's gonna be electric.
- 0:42This is gonna be a hell of a matchup, man.
- 0:45Brandan: Second chance to take down an
- 0:48undefeated team in our home stadium this season.
- 0:52Adam: That's a true fact.
- 0:53I hadn't thought about it in those terms, and, look, there's…
- 0:57I, I think that the result of this could be different than that, 49ers game.
- 1:02And the funny thing is, is, like, we could talk for an hour about this
- 1:05game, I'm sure, but for the most part, it's relatively freaking simple.
- 1:09You know, hold on to the rock, win game.
- 1:11Like, I mean, it's, it's almost, it's almost that elementary when you really
- 1:16get down to the nitty-gritty of it.
- 1:17Brandan: It's almost annoying that it's that easy,
- 1:21because I feel, watching this team-
- 1:24It, it feels like that team that won the Super Bowl last season is in there.
- 1:29Like, I could see it.
- 1:29Yeah.
- 1:29I could see it in there.
- 1:30They, they s- they do a lot of the same things.
- 1:33They look very similar, apart from the running game.
- 1:35And- … the, but the defense, it's, it's the championship caliber defense.
- 1:41Yep.
- 1:41And I think that's why it's so frustrating to be sitting here at three and three
- 1:46and looking back on those games, looking back to the loss against the Broncos
- 1:49in, when you had a shot in overtime, looking back to the, the game against
- 1:53the Niners, which is in your division, and going, "Man, if we just turn the
- 1:58ball over, I don't know, one time less, we're on the positive side, and we're the
- 2:04ones undefeated going into this game."
- 2:06Adam: It's a true fact, man, and you're totally correct about the defense.
- 2:10They're playing at the exact same level as last year, and they've been
- 2:13absolutely dominant, and it's been an absolute joy to watch throughout
- 2:18this first six weeks of the season.
- 2:19Then you get offensively, and like you said, it's a lot of
- 2:23the same stuff as last year.
- 2:24I mean, JSN centric, and Sam Darnold, you know, putting up big numbers at times.
- 2:31Sure.
- 2:31And, you know, then putting up big numbers in the turnover category as well.
- 2:36And look, it's, in some ways it's not just the Sam turnovers, it's more
- 2:41kind of the turnovers around him.
- 2:43'Cause you almost have to bake in a Sam turnover a game.
- 2:47Like- Sure … it's just who he is, and you won- Why not?
- 2:49… a Super Bowl doing that.
- 2:50I mean, not why not, I'd love it if he could get rid of it, but
- 2:53it's been the story since USC.
- 2:54It, it just really has.
- 2:55Mm-hmm.
- 2:56And last year leading the league in turnovers, we all know, and this year,
- 3:00I don't know if he's leading the league, but, he's making a strong case for it.
- 3:04And it's just the little things like a Shaheed fumble in the Broncos game
- 3:09where, you know, it kinda goes off his butt sort of and then, you know,
- 3:13just the weird thing- Brandan: Off the dude's knee, yeah, the, of the defender.
- 3:16Adam: Yeah.
- 3:17And it's like, gosh dang, man.
- 3:18Like, if the rest of the team can play clean around him, then all of a sudden
- 3:22these losses start to look like wins.
- 3:25I mean, I heard Darren, Daniel Jeremiah talking about the Seahawks
- 3:29year on Brock and Salk this last week, and they were asking him, "Hey, you
- 3:33know, how you feeling about this?"
- 3:34He's like, "I don't know.
- 3:35I mean, I, I feel just fine about this."
- 3:36Like, this team has every opportunity to do exactly what they did
- 3:40last year in terms of getting to the Super Bowl and all of that.
- 3:43What are you, eight points away from being undefeated or something like that?
- 3:47And then when you really sit and think about it, you know, the sky isn't falling,
- 3:51but it's certainly a little cloudy, and, it could clear up though.
- 3:55And I think that there's an opportunity for that against
- 3:58the Chiefs on Sunday night.
- 4:00Brandan: Eight points away from the discussion being bench Sam
- 4:03Darnold, fire Brian Fleury.
- 4:06Who else are…
- 4:08We, we have to trade for a running back because- Mm-hmm … that's a disaster.
- 4:13Yeah, it, it would be nice if we…
- 4:15It would almost be better if it weren't so close and it was just- Adam: Yeah but I'm
- 4:22Brandan: to the point, Adam,
- 4:24where I'm negotiating with where Sam turns the ball over.
- 4:28'Cause you go back to the Broncos game and
- 4:30you look at the one where, yeah, they were
- 4:32in field goal range, he turns it over,
- 4:35but they end up being able to shut the Broncos
- 4:38offense down and get the ball back and then tie it up, to go into overtime.
- 4:44But then it's in overtime where he turns the ball over on the wrong side
- 4:48of the field, and they're able to kick a game-winning field goal without
- 4:52having to drive that many yards.
- 4:53And I look back at all these other games too where there have been Sam turnovers,
- 4:59and it, it seems like it's the ones on our side of the field that ends up…
- 5:05They all end up hurting us because our defense has not been able to get red zone
- 5:09stops too, is, a part of the problem.
- 5:11I guess that's the one area of the defense where you go, "Yeah, that's…
- 5:15It, it, it's kind of a weird variance," and we have to regress toward the,
- 5:21the middle there somewhere at, at, at, during the season because I, again, I
- 5:26look at the defense and say, "This is a s- championship caliber defense."
- 5:30The, the red zone thing is weird to me.
- 5:32Adam: It is very weird, and you would feel like that's something that they can
- 5:35improve on, and it, maybe it is just the result of the random variance that
- 5:42happens throughout a season, and the pendulum does swing back their way a
- 5:46little bit, and it's not a matter of them doing that much different, it's
- 5:49just, things go your way or they don't.
- 5:51And that's a little bit of the league as a whole, right?
- 5:53I mean, this is, every team is so closely matched in so many ways that
- 6:00the difference between winning and losing is so small, or stopping them in
- 6:03the red zone is just, is rather small.
- 6:05But you're right about the idea of, you know, where you're turning the
- 6:09ball over not just the turnovers.
- 6:11I mean, think of how many short fields the stupid Niners had.
- 6:14Now, of all the losses, that's the one that sticks in my craw, like, the hardest.
- 6:17'Cause, like, it was unbelievably winnable against that stupid team that
- 6:23everybody now is crowning, and it, it could be a totally different conversation.
- 6:28That one frustrates me the most.
- 6:30Brandan: That one is frustrating, especially when, because it's division.
- 6:35And it would give you the opportunity of being that much closer to
- 6:40the top of the division, even though it's just that one game.
- 6:44And then compound that with the Rams being at the bottom of the division after
- 6:49their loss to Cardinals this past week.
- 6:53Oh man, that was, that was glorious.
- 6:55The fact that the Cardinals don't even need to score touchdowns to beat the Rams.
- 7:00Adam: No, six field goals from Chad Ryland, like, MVP Ryland right there.
- 7:05That was a beautiful thing to watch, watching the Rams go down,
- 7:07and that does give you some solace because y- it really kinda takes some
- 7:11of the heat off of this team as well.
- 7:13Not that anybody pays attention to us anyways, but at the end of the day,
- 7:17like, the Rams taking their lumps here, that's, that's certainly helped.
- 7:21But look, everything's in front of you here, as you're sitting at three and
- 7:25three, you're rolling into Sunday night, and you've got the big, bad Kansas City
- 7:29Chiefs coming to town, along with one Mr.
- 7:32Kenneth Walker.
- 7:34Brandan: Kenneth Walker coming back to Seattle.
- 7:38It's, I'm, I'm struggling a little bit because I was a big Kenneth Walker fan, Adam.
- 7:45Adam: Yeah.
- 7:45Brandan: And I think I expressed that in the off-season.
- 7:50I know that- It, I could understand the thinking of John Schneider trying to
- 7:57maintain a championship caliber team, and thinking that the running back spot would
- 8:03be one that you could get by without.
- 8:06And I think another part of this too is that we're seeing a Kenneth Walker that we
- 8:12saw in spurts in Seattle, but we didn't see a five, six game stretch of K9
- 8:19like this with what he's doing with the Kansas City Chiefs to start the season.
- 8:25Adam: It's true, but he's never played with, you know, Patrick Mahomes
- 8:29sitting back behind him as well.
- 8:30Where he's able to- Mahomes … you know, really scare defenses with
- 8:34all of the Pat Mahomes stuff, right?
- 8:36And that opens things up.
- 8:38Also too, I, it's interesting to think about the usage rate with Ken here so far
- 8:44throughout the first part of the year.
- 8:46I mean, it'd be difficult not to want to use him that much, no doubt about it.
- 8:50But look, he managed to play in 17 games last year because we actually spelled him
- 8:58by having a 1B option at running back.
- 9:01And I think one of the things that has been frustrating for me over the last week
- 9:06or so, just the conversation about Kenneth
- 9:09Walker and, "Ah, we shouldn't have let him
- 9:11go," and this, that, and the other thing.
- 9:12Okay, that's fine.
- 9:13I mean, look, it, hindsight's 2020 in all of that.
- 9:18But I think it's far too early to say, yeah, John Schneider's bet totally busted.
- 9:23Like, it, it, it's over, you know, this is Ken's awesome, Chiefs have, are winning
- 9:27the Super Bowl, and Seahawks are gonna finish with a losing record and miss
- 9:31the playoffs all because of one move.
- 9:33And that, that doesn't feel like it's the case.
- 9:35And I think what is really difficult for me is the idea that everybody seems to
- 9:42say, "Well, I mean, they had Kenneth Walker and that made the running game go."
- 9:45And it's like, well, was it all Ken?
- 9:47Like, I, 'cause I don't recall that being the case at all.
- 9:51I mean, Zach Charbonnet had a very nice season throughout the year as well, and
- 9:55honestly was a little bit more productive before his injury than Ken was and
- 9:59getting a little more run at that point.
- 10:01But I mean, as you see here, the regular season stats, I
- 10:05mean, is this massively different to you, do you think, Brandan?
- 10:08Brandan: Not massively different, no.
- 10:10It, d- the thing that I would expect to be different is just the more explosive
- 10:16plays from K9, which- Yes … helps get him into those, h- help to get him over
- 10:21Adam: 1,000 yards Yeah, a thousand percent.
- 10:25And, you know- 'Cause that's Brandan: not
- 10:26really part of Zach's game, is getting the, you
- 10:28know, breaking off the 40, 50, 60-yarders.
- 10:31Adam: Yeah, that's definitely not his, forte per se, but he is a very
- 10:35consistent back, and he helps make the g- run game legitimate enough that
- 10:40teams commit to having to stop it, which then opens things up for Sam.
- 10:44And that's really what this offense has been missing.
- 10:47We can talk all day long about what Fleury isn't getting right, and it's like, well,
- 10:50look, you can draw it up perfect, but if your back is just a plodder that can't
- 10:55get anywhere like both of, Wilson and Holani are, like, what are you gonna do?
- 11:00Yeah.
- 11:00You're not gonna make that thing go.
- 11:02And I know the argument is, well, Shanahan makes anybody work.
- 11:05It's like, well, okay.
- 11:06But they're not also, like, these sort of plodding type running backs.
- 11:11Like, I, I, I can't [catfish] stand Emanuel Wilson.
- 11:16Like, I can't.
- 11:17Brandan: You are not a fan of plodding running backs.
- 11:19Go back to the Eddie Lacy days and- God
- 11:21see the frustration that Adam dealt with, and I, and as I tried to go,
- 11:26well, you know, maybe, maybe w- we'll get some good Eddie Lacy for, at
- 11:31some point, and it never happened.
- 11:34No.
- 11:34I kept waiting.
- 11:35It never happened.
- 11:36It's gonna be Anthony Bradford returning it looks like.
- 11:39It looked like he was a full participant in practice today, so.
- 11:42I wonder what Anthony Bradford we get in very first game back after injury, Anthony
- 11:48Bradford going up against All-Pro Chris Jones, on the other side of the field.
- 11:53I have, I, well, I'd have my concerns against the, the backup guards
- 11:58going up against Chris Jones, but Anthony Bradford early last season
- 12:03didn't look real strong either.
- 12:05And coming in off of injury, I have to expect that there's gonna be some, some
- 12:12negative plays that we see sprinkled in there, too, which is generally
- 12:15what we get with Anthony Bradford.
- 12:18Adam: Absolutely.
- 12:18But we don't, we do know that this is a highly functioning offensive line.
- 12:24When all five of them are out there, they've got a back behind them, and
- 12:26things are actually working, right?
- 12:28Now, also, you ment- mentioned Chris Jones, hell of a player, Hall of
- 12:33Famer, no doubt about it, right?
- 12:35He's fricking awesome.
- 12:37We saw Christian Haynes have some nice reps against him in the preseason.
- 12:41Now, that was preseason Chris Jones, so take it, take it
- 12:43with a grain of salt I guess.
- 12:44Mm-hmm.
- 12:44But it's not just him, though.
- 12:46Tonga is a good DT.
- 12:48You know, Peter Woods is another good defensive tackle as well.
- 12:51They're pretty tough up front, so it's, it's important that Anthony
- 12:55Bradford is back for this game, I think.
- 12:57It's really gonna help.
- 13:00Brandan: The other guy I worry about a little bit on the defensive line is George
- 13:04Karlaftis, who, he's leading the Chiefs, 24 pressures this season.
- 13:09But he's generally coming from the right side, and that's gonna be
- 13:13going up against Charles Cross.
- 13:15Cross coming off a not so great game too, but that was Nik Bonitto.
- 13:20Do you, do you think…
- 13:22I don't think of, Karlaftis being quite the same.
- 13:25It's, they have different games.
- 13:27Bonitto- Yes … a lot more speed and, and twitchy guy, where I think
- 13:31Karlaftis is more of a power guy.
- 13:33Adam: There's not a lot of Bonittos out there in the world, and his
- 13:37quickness and twitchiness and the spin move, like, that, that was what
- 13:40was really kind of eating them up.
- 13:42But along with the fact that the Seahawks were constantly in passing situations
- 13:48and had kind of abandoned the run game in the second half, and I think rightfully
- 13:52so in that particular match up, being down like you were, and the running
- 13:56game being garbage and, and all of that.
- 13:58But it made you predictable and it makes it really difficult on your
- 14:02offensive line at that point against a pass rusher of the caliber of Bonitto.
- 14:07Do I think Karlaftis is a very nice player?
- 14:09Yes, 1000%.
- 14:11He's a, he's a very good defensive end and a, and a rusher.
- 14:15But I don't think he's nearly on the level of Bonitto in just
- 14:18strictly pass rushing stuff.
- 14:19I think Karlaftis is probably better at setting the edge and
- 14:22doing some of that other stuff.
- 14:23Very different games.
- 14:24And I think his style of game is something that Abe Lucas can match
- 14:27up with and Charles Cross can match up with, you know, pretty well.
- 14:32And I, I think you're not gonna see the same, difficulties,
- 14:38from the tackle position in this game as you did against the Broncos.
- 14:42Also, the rookie R, Mason Thomas, is look pretty good at times.
- 14:44Brandan: Is look good.
- 14:45Yeah.
- 14:45Adam: Yeah.
- 14:47Brandan: I was- A little bit concerned based on what we saw from Charles Cross
- 14:54and Grey Zabel last week, and I was digging into some of the stats.
- 15:01It w- it, because it was, they allowed 16 and a half percent-
- 15:05Mm … pressure rate, five and a half sacks in the last two games.
- 15:10And before that, I, I felt like we didn't really have to worry about the
- 15:14left side of the line all that much.
- 15:16And even with those two poor games back to back, they're still the best left guard,
- 15:25left tackle tandem in the NFL right now.
- 15:28And I was, i- despite those last two games, I was just happy to see
- 15:34that, okay, may- it's just two games.
- 15:37I, I don't think that's going to be a trend, but a, a little bit
- 15:42concerning after the last two weeks.
- 15:44Adam: How do you make your offensive line look terrible?
- 15:47Like, when you know that they've got talent.
- 15:49We know they have talent.
- 15:50They're all Super Bowl champions.
- 15:52They, you know, Zabel's a first round draft pick.
- 15:54Cross is a first round draft pick.
- 15:56I mean, these are talented players, right?
- 15:58Well, you make your offensive line look terrible when you can't run the
- 16:02football, and you have to throw it every down, and you've got a quarterback whose
- 16:07game is not tailored to put the entire offensive load on his shoulder and drop
- 16:12back 45, 51 times against the Broncos.
- 16:16Brandan: 51 times.
- 16:17Adam: And you really put them in a position where they're playing backwards the
- 16:20entire game, which is not their game.
- 16:22So I don't care who you are.
- 16:24You, you could be Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson over there, but if you're
- 16:28playing that style of football, where the quarterback, where you have to throw the
- 16:32ball a bunch, and they threw the ball a bunch under Holmgren, don't get it twisted.
- 16:36Mm-hmm.
- 16:36But if, Hasselbeck was great at getting the ball out, being the
- 16:40point guard, distributing, and being that sort of quarterback, right?
- 16:44Whereas we look at Sam Darnold and that is not his game in any way.
- 16:49It's run the ball, deep shots, clear reads, decisive.
- 16:53That, that's when Sam's playing at a high level.
- 16:56And he still has the blue screen of death every now and then.
- 17:00And you know, honestly, I was thinking about it today.
- 17:03I, I think Sam Darnold reminds me a lot of Dave Krieg, like where- Oh,
- 17:08sure … you can have these amazing games where you're just like, "Oh my gosh."
- 17:11And then they turn over games.
- 17:13And then these turnover games, and you're like, "What the hell happened?"
- 17:15The streakiness of it.
- 17:16Yeah.
- 17:17It's very Kriegian to me.
- 17:18Brandan: Yeah, Krieg had games, for, for those people who are relatively new to the
- 17:23Seahawks, it, Krieg had Steve Largent to throw to, and he would have
- 17:29games like that where he would get…
- 17:32H- his problem was more fumbles I felt like than interceptions.
- 17:36Yes.
- 17:36And, he notably had very small hands for a NFL quarterback,
- 17:41but undrafted quarterback.
- 17:43And he would…
- 17:45It felt like under the lights, though, he would have his, some of his best games.
- 17:49Yeah.
- 17:49I remember a Monday Night Football game where he threw for, like four touchdowns,
- 17:53and it was against, I think, the Raiders, you know, division rival at the time.
- 17:57And you're…
- 17:59Well, and when Krieg finished his career too, he was among some of
- 18:02the top quarterbacks in yardage.
- 18:05And, yeah.
- 18:08Adam: Like for a long time.
- 18:09Brandan: You looked at him as a quarterback
- 18:10that he could get it done, but then you had the
- 18:12other games where it was like, come on.
- 18:14Why, why can't you just do the thing, the good stuff all the time?
- 18:18Adam: Yeah.
- 18:18I mean, we talk about it all the time on this podcast.
- 18:21The difference between bad to good, good to great is consistency at this level.
- 18:24They're all talented.
- 18:25Just how consistently can you put it together?
- 18:27And that's what makes Sam Darnold a B level quarterback,
- 18:30a Krieg level quarterback.
- 18:31Like- Yeah … you know, where I put, I put Hasselbeck above him, even
- 18:34though he never won a Super Bowl.
- 18:36Like, I'd take Hasselbeck over Sam Darnold
- 18:38every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
- 18:41Brandan: Yeah.
- 18:41He, he only had the one moment of, "We want the ball and we're gonna score."
- 18:46And, and there's- You know- … questions around whether- Yeah … or
- 18:48not that was even his fault.
- 18:51Adam: Well, there's, yeah, there's a lot about that,
- 18:53but at the end of the day, that, it
- 18:54turns into kind of a war memory, honestly- I get it … when it's all said and done.
- 18:58I love the swagger from Hasselbeck there and all of that, but- It didn't
- 19:02Brandan: feel all that great at the time.
- 19:04Adam: It didn't feel great at the time.
- 19:06No, it was, less than ideal at the time, no doubt about it.
- 19:09But with all of that said, you have the opportunity here to go up against
- 19:14the Chiefs with a relatively healthy roster, and you're getting one of
- 19:19the key cogs that you need back, two of the key cogs that you need back
- 19:23offensively, to just string together just a tiny bit more consistency.
- 19:27Eliminate one to two mistakes a game, and this game is absolutely winnable.
- 19:33Now, if you don't play clean football and you turn it over two plus times, Chiefs
- 19:38win this all day and it's not even close
- 19:43Brandan: While we're still on the Chiefs defense, should we talk about
- 19:46the secondary a little bit?
- 19:47Because y- we have this receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, I think
- 19:51fans are familiar with him.
- 19:53Yeah … he's- Adam: He's all right … Brandan: he's, in, in another stat that talks
- 19:58about how good JSN has been this year, when targeting Jaxon downfield 10
- 20:03plus air yards, he has had 23 of 32 passes completed for 484 yards, and
- 20:14that 484 yards, Adam- Yeah … is 64% of the team's total downfield yardage.
- 20:2164%.
- 20:23He is the only player over 60%, and one of only four in the NFL over 50%.
- 20:31Adam: Yeah, he's been absolutely dominant and it's not sustainable.
- 20:34We can't live here where it's all JSN, no doubt about it.
- 20:39But it's a little like the Chiefs we can't laugh at right now.
- 20:41Brandan: We, we said it all last season that it's not sustainable, and then we
- 20:43went to the Super Bowl and won it.
- 20:44No, it, it, it would- Adam: Yeah, but also, too, it changed from being Jas- Jaxon
- 20:49centric to- Running the football
- 20:51running the football, like when people decided that they were gonna
- 20:53try to take him away and really commit the resources to that.
- 20:57I…
- 20:58So we do the Blue Friday bets, right?
- 21:00Mm-hmm.
- 21:01And I'm gonna be betting on JSN to have a big game, not just because he's lit
- 21:05it up, you know, pretty much every week i- this entire season and all of last year.
- 21:11The reason I'm doing it is this Chiefs defense plays a lot of man, and
- 21:16Spags, s- you know, he blitzes, man.
- 21:18Mm-hmm.
- 21:18Like, he's bringing, he's gonna bring heat.
- 21:21He's gonna have a lot of opportunities to beat single coverage, man coverage,
- 21:26and he can, he could torch anybody.
- 21:28I don't care if they still had McDuffie and Watson, their two corners from last
- 21:32year that are now the last place, division in the division Rams players.
- 21:37But, you know, these, these new guys, the, the rookie is,
- 21:41Delane's the rookie, right?
- 21:42Brandan: Delane, yeah.
- 21:43Adam: Delane?
- 21:44Okay.
- 21:44Yeah, and then Nohl Williams, like, look, good luck, boys.
- 21:48If they wanna match you up one on one, it could look very different.
- 21:53And also, too, if you kind of look at who the Chiefs have played to
- 21:57this point, like, those corners have held up, but against who?
- 22:03Brandan: I, I think Delane has been pretty good this season.
- 22:07Adam: Yeah.
- 22:08Brandan: Now he- they've given him a lot of help over the top.
- 22:12I was looking at the, the, when he had split safety coverage
- 22:16that, Mansoor Delane.
- 22:20So that combination, he's, only allowed three receptions
- 22:24for, five yards on 58 snaps, which is, is a pretty wild stat.
- 22:32A- and so you expect that that's what they're gonna do.
- 22:36Now the Chief's defense hasn't exactly faced JSN.
- 22:39In fact, that's one of the things I look at this Chief's team, Adam.
- 22:42Adam: Mm-hmm.
- 22:43Brandan: Who have they played this year?
- 22:46Adam: Well, they played, the Broncos.
- 22:49Brandan: They played the Broncos.
- 22:50They played Miami.
- 22:52Adam: Yeah, the Dolphins.
- 22:53They've played, I have to look- Played Brandan:
- 22:56another scrub team, and then they played
- 22:58the Raiders … here, I'll look it up.
- 22:58I'll find it real quick.
- 22:59Adam: Yeah.
- 23:00Brandan: Then the Raiders won.
- 23:01It was, gosh, I think each team scored 30 points.
- 23:05Adam: It was 30-27, Chiefs, Raiders, with Chiefs obviously-
- 23:09Okay … prevailing there.
- 23:10But Broncos, Broncos, Colts, Dolphins, Raiders- Raiders
- 23:13Chargers.
- 23:14And let's see, three of those five teams are about ready to have a
- 23:19fire sale, and, get rid of their, a lot of their talent and try to
- 23:23start over because they're that bad.
- 23:25Now, the Chiefs have been a part of that, right?
- 23:27Like, they've handed all those teams Ls.
- 23:29It's not like y- you don't have to go out there and actually play.
- 23:33Brandan: Right.
- 23:33But I think of those teams and I go, okay, well, Nohl Williams is,
- 23:37he's only allowed 34 per, 35% completion percentage when targeting him.
- 23:43I, I had that stat about Delane.
- 23:45I will say the Chiefs fans are, very scared of the fact that we could line
- 23:52up JSN in the slot and go against Sneed.
- 23:57Th- they, they don't like that matchup at all.
- 23:59Adam: Really?
- 23:59But- That's interesting, 'cause that's the name that you know, right?
- 24:02Like, for most of us fans when we're looking at this.
- 24:04Yeah.
- 24:05It, it, yeah, L'Jarius Sneed has been a player for a long time.
- 24:08Brandan: Yeah.
- 24:08Adam: Like a good one.
- 24:09Brandan: He hasn't been good.
- 24:10Adam: Hasn't been good, interesting.
- 24:11Okay.
- 24:12Well, or- ESPN has him as questionable anyways.
- 24:15Brandan: They have a, a few injuries that is going to, injuries that'll be
- 24:21concerning for them Especially on the offensive side of the ball, because
- 24:26Jaylon Moore, their right tackle, he's got a concussion that he's dealing with.
- 24:33They're down to l- left tackle number two, so the edges for Patrick
- 24:39Mahomes could be interesting.
- 24:41And, Mahomes going up against a pretty good defense.
- 24:45And so you gotta imagine that if you're down to left tackle two and
- 24:50right tackle two, sure, rushing off the edge isn't the Seahawks' greatest
- 24:54strength, but Mike Macdonald has shown he's found ways to take advantage of
- 24:59match-ups, and it's not like we have slouches coming off the edges either.
- 25:03Adam: No, we do not have slouches in…
- 25:05Look, Benson, the undrafted kid who's played at left tackle has
- 25:09had a nice season to this point.
- 25:10No doubt about it.
- 25:11Mm-hmm.
- 25:11He hasn't faced this sort of defense.
- 25:13I mean, they faced the Broncos, and we just talked about Bonitto and, you know, Que
- 25:17Robinson and what they can do to people.
- 25:19They managed to get the victory there.
- 25:21I guess they did fe- face Maxx Crosby as well with the Raiders.
- 25:24So they, I mean, they've seen some high-end talent here and still
- 25:27have been able to get it done.
- 25:29But the reason they've been able to do that is they take the seam out of all
- 25:32those pass rushers by running the hell out of the football with Kenneth Walker.
- 25:35Like, th- they're not making…
- 25:37I've never seen an Andy Reid offense that has looked anything like this
- 25:42with the way that they run the football with multiple- Yeah … tight
- 25:44ends and- Even with Shady, right?
- 25:46Brandan: The, Shady McCoy.
- 25:48Adam: Yeah, Shady or Brian Westbrook or…
- 25:50I mean, you can go down the list, right?
- 25:52Brandan: Mm-hmm.
- 25:52Adam: Like, I've never seen Andy Reid lean into this the way that he has,
- 25:57and it makes a ton of sense, right?
- 25:58You have a, the Super Bowl MVP in Kenneth Walker, who's fricking awesome.
- 26:01The interior of your offensive line is fricking s- stacked, right?
- 26:06I mean, you know, Creed Humphrey and, Trey Smith and, Sua
- 26:11Matua or however you say his name.
- 26:13I always get all the- You nailed it.
- 26:15Did I?
- 26:15I don't- Yeah.
- 26:16… feel like I nailed it.
- 26:17Yeah.
- 26:17But they're, they're very good, right?
- 26:20And he says, "Look, Pat's coming off of an ACL.
- 26:23We don't want him running around.
- 26:25We don't want him taking hits.
- 26:26Well, guess what?
- 26:27We're gonna hand the ball off or we're gonna jelly it right down
- 26:29their throat," and they've been doing it, and they've been doing it
- 26:31in a thousand different ways, too.
- 26:33I mean, they've been running power, they've been running counter,
- 26:35they've been running outside zone, mid zone, inside zone, from the gun.
- 26:38They are doing it all, and we haven't seen if those tackles can hold
- 26:45up if the run is getting stopped.
- 26:48And look, this Seattle defense, I think they know a thing
- 26:52or two about Kenneth Walker.
- 26:54Brandan: They know a thing or two about Kenneth Walker.
- 26:56They've also, the Chiefs have been using K9 to, to bounce it outside
- 27:01at a pretty good clip this year.
- 27:0442 rushes for 316 yards running outside zone.
- 27:09Sh- Seven and a half yards per carry, which is a, a pretty wild stat The
- 27:16Seahawks though have allowed just 3.3
- 27:19yards per carry, which is the seventh lowest in the NFL and you have to think
- 27:26that with what we have up the middle with the tendencies of K9 to try and
- 27:32bounce it out I think that this matches up well, and I know we've had that stat
- 27:38drilled into our brains of, oh, this team hasn't allowed 100 yard plus rusher for
- 27:4430 plus games, 35 I think we're up to.
- 27:47Adam: Yeah.
- 27:48Brandan: And a motivated Kenneth Walker,
- 27:50could he come in and get it done against this defense?
- 27:55Adam: Could the emotion of this game for
- 27:57Kenneth Walker also hurt him a little bit too?
- 27:59Like, I mean, we talk about motivated Kenneth Walker, chips on
- 28:02his shoulder, all that stuff.
- 28:04I mean, it's, to me, it's a little difficult to have a chip on your
- 28:08shoulder when it seems fairly evident that unless you would have handed
- 28:12him, like, a Saquon contract, like, he wasn't necessarily wanting to sign
- 28:16back up here just because of having to split carries and that sort of thing.
- 28:20So, I mean, it's about as much on Ken that he's not here as it is John Schneider.
- 28:25Brandan: You know.
- 28:26Well, we found out this week it is a little bit on John Schneider
- 28:28'cause he didn't even offer him a contract ahead of free agency last
- 28:31year, according to the article by Michael-Shawn Dugar this past week.
- 28:36Adam: So you're looking at the cap, you're gonna sign Shaheed, you're, you're gonna
- 28:39Brandan: extend Spoon, you're gonna extend
- 28:40Jason- I don't know if we were gonna sign Shaheed.
- 28:42It wa- Because that didn't happen until shortly…
- 28:46That wasn't one of those day of free agency signings either.
- 28:50Adam: So- No, but I don't think Shaheed was ever gonna be a day one free agent.
- 28:55Like, he was gonna be in that second wave-
- 28:57Brandan: Sure … Adam: pretty much no matter what.
- 28:59And at the end of the day, like,
- 29:02you can't pay everybody, and I understand the notion
- 29:06that you don't wanna pay running backs.
- 29:07Would I have rather kept Kenneth Walker?
- 29:09Yes.
- 29:09Is he not here?
- 29:10Yes.
- 29:10Is it time to move on?
- 29:11For sure.
- 29:12He is a Chief.
- 29:13He'll show up on Sunday and we get to try to shut him down, and that's
- 29:17one thing that they haven't seen.
- 29:19They haven't seen a defense that absolutely smothers you in the run game.
- 29:23And we all know Ken loves to get to the edge.
- 29:26This team does not allow you to get to the edge with any sort of regularity.
- 29:30The- Yeah … number one thing that is gonna determine, the number two
- 29:33thing that's gonna determine this game, number one's gonna be turnovers
- 29:36and number two is gonna be tackling.
- 29:39If this Seahawks team can tackle the, the way that they do against Kenneth Walker,
- 29:44it's gonna make the Chiefs one-handed, and Mahomes can still go out there
- 29:47and beat the pants off of you, but the receiving core is depleted without
- 29:50Tyquan Thornton and, look, looking like without, Rashee Rice as well.
- 29:55Brandan: I'm surprised you even mentioned Tyquan Thornton's name.
- 29:59He feels like a who guy to me.
- 30:01Adam: You know, he catches some deep stuff.
- 30:03Like, who was that one dude for the Ravens that caught the big ball in
- 30:06the playoffs against the Broncos?
- 30:09Like, that's who he reminds me of.
- 30:10I can't think of his name for the life of me, but- Gosh
- 30:12Yeah.
- 30:14I don't know why- But just kind of a one Brandan: trick pony … I don't know
- 30:15why Rashod Bateman is the, the first name that comes to mind, but I don't
- 30:18think it was him Adam: There m- he might be on a Rashod Bateman kind of level.
- 30:21Like, that, that's fine for me.
- 30:23It's gonna be a lot tougher for this Chiefs team if they have
- 30:26to rely on just the pass game.
- 30:28Kelce's having a little bit of a renaissance year.
- 30:31Like, I think he's looked a little bit better this year.
- 30:33It looked like he was getting to the washed level last year.
- 30:36He's kinda turned it around a little bit here.
- 30:39But if the Seahawks can tackle…
- 30:40'Cause Ken is, Ken has forced the most missed tackles in the entire league.
- 30:45By a lot.
- 30:46And I think it's by, like, six.
- 30:47Yeah.
- 30:48Yeah.
- 30:48By a lot.
- 30:49And look, if you can, if you can be the team that you are and the Seahawks
- 30:54and have a clean tackling game and not turn the ball over, this starts
- 30:58to look very different than I think what most people feel like going in.
- 31:02Is this a slam dunk?
- 31:03No.
- 31:03Is the Chiefs, are the Chiefs damn good?
- 31:05Hell yeah.
- 31:06Like, the, you could lose this game pretty easy, but there is a path to victory.
- 31:11Brandan: Yeah.
- 31:11He's, he's caused a lot of missed tackles, but also I saw Ernest Jones
- 31:16only had one missed tackle to this point in the season, too, so a good tackling
- 31:22team, and that's why I kinda go back to who of the Chiefs played defensively.
- 31:28The Broncos would, would be the best- Mm-hmm … of the, of the bunch.
- 31:33But I look at a lot of those other defenses, and I don't
- 31:35see anybody super scary.
- 31:37So I think the, yeah- Adam: They hung 31 on the Broncos.
- 31:44Brandan: Yeah.
- 31:45Adam: Yeah
- 31:47Brandan: That's pretty good.
- 31:49Adam: It's a lot of points.
- 31:50I feel like the offense is gonna have to score 27 points at
- 31:53least to win this football game.
- 31:56Brandan: Yeah.
- 31:57Adam: It's interesting- Against a damn good
- 31:59defense … Brandan: Mahomes has struggled in
- 32:01recent years, well, at least the last two match-ups, that he's lost each of
- 32:05his last two match-ups, against Houston and, Philly in the…
- 32:13When, when facing the NFL's top defense.
- 32:16And 2025, the Texans, well, I guess, they, they were top at the time when
- 32:22they faced them, 'cause they ended up at the season number two behind us.
- 32:26But then the, the Eagles defense was number one when they played them.
- 32:30Adam: Mm-hmm.
- 32:31Brandan: And that was the last…
- 32:32Those are the last two times that he's faced the league's top defense.
- 32:36And I, I like…
- 32:39It's just a stat that I like, that gives me hope.
- 32:42Adam: If the tackling is clean, and they're able to, you know, keep Ken to
- 32:4775 to 90 yards on the day, right?
- 32:51That being the first part of the formula.
- 32:54And then the second part of the thing, you know it's going right if
- 32:56you see Pat trying to- Not scramble to throw, but scramble to run.
- 33:02That's when you know that, like, the Chiefs, or he feels like the Chiefs
- 33:06are in trouble and have no answers.
- 33:07Right.
- 33:08'Cause that, that's when he busts that out, and it's usually about
- 33:10the last thing that he does.
- 33:12He almost only saves it for the playoffs as well.
- 33:14But we've seen him look mortal against really good defenses, and this
- 33:18defense is fantastic about keeping the quarterback contained in the pocket
- 33:22as a whole, and being disciplined in the rush lanes and working together.
- 33:27So it's gonna be hard for him to find those opportunities as well.
- 33:31Plus then I think about our secondary matching up against this wide
- 33:35receiving corps for the Chiefs, and that's definitely advantage Seahawks.
- 33:39Brandan: Yeah.
- 33:40Xavier Worthy, I feel like that match up with Devon Witherspoon, if
- 33:44that's, that's who I would decide to put on Worthy if, if I had to pick.
- 33:48And then- Yeah, probably
- 33:50none of the receivers after that give me any…
- 33:54Receiving-wise, then it would be Kelce.
- 33:58Yeah.
- 33:58But, I feel like, I, I wonder how much of the underneath stuff that they're going
- 34:04to allow early of to where Mahomes is just, okay, take the quick, easy option.
- 34:11Hmm.
- 34:11There's Kelce for five, six, seven yards, before they start taking that away.
- 34:16'Cause it seemed like they were leaving that open for Nicks in
- 34:19the first half early on, which allowed some of those longer drives,
- 34:23their touchdown drives, and before shutting it down in the second half.
- 34:28Adam: I mean, that's Mike's philosophy, right?
- 34:30We're gonna play a lot of two high, a lot of shell coverage, a lot of cover six.
- 34:34Like, that's something that we, we play a lot this year.
- 34:37I think we're leading the league in, running cover six.
- 34:40Yep, 25%.
- 34:40Brandan: And Pat has n- Adam: yeah, and Pat hasn't had the greatest,
- 34:44success against cover six as well.
- 34:46So that'll be interesting to see that cat and mouse game.
- 34:48But I do suspect that there's gonna be a fair amount of the dink and dunk stuff
- 34:53left underneath, rally to the football tackle, make them beat you through
- 34:57an execution of 13 consecutive plays without a mistake, that sort of thing.
- 35:02I think the one thing that scares me the most, or second most about this,
- 35:07Chiefs offense is the screen game.
- 35:10And that's something Mike's talked about this week a
- 35:12little bit in his pressers too.
- 35:14I imagine that they're gonna have a plan.
- 35:16Now is that plan gonna be good enough for somebody like Andy Reid who can
- 35:21really scheme these sort of things up?
- 35:24Brandan: I'm chuckling a little bit 'cause I just saw the headline to this slide.
- 35:30Adam: I'm glad you liked it.
- 35:31Brandan: Can Chiefs handle the D?
- 35:33Adam: Can they handle the D?
- 35:34I don't know.
- 35:35I don't know if, Mahomes can handle this D.
- 35:38It's a lot of D.
- 35:39Brandan: It's a lot of D to worry about.
- 35:41Yeah.
- 35:41And, I think it can be a little overwhelming for most
- 35:44people, including Patrick Mahomes.
- 35:46I'd like to see him- Yeah, I've made a- … overwhelmed by this D.
- 35:48Adam: Yeah.
- 35:49He, he could be overwhelmed by the D.
- 35:51Look, at, at the end of the day, I, I've made a promise to myself that I am going
- 35:54to make it a point to try to slip in some, snarky-ass jokes in at least
- 35:59one of the graphic slides per episode.
- 36:01Like, that's, that's my goal.
- 36:03Brandan: That's gonna be like Where, Where's Waldo for me.
- 36:05How, where do I find- Yeah … the snarky titled slide?
- 36:07Adam: Yeah, exactly.
- 36:08Or even just, you know, like, you know, just a little crybaby
- 36:11[catfish] pass underneath a player.
- 36:13You know, something like that.
- 36:14Yeah.
- 36:14Like I did with, Sean Payton, you know?
- 36:16Brandan: Yeah.
- 36:17That's good.
- 36:20Other matchups in this game.
- 36:21Oh, one other stat that gave me a little bit of hope, and, well, not that I
- 36:27need a ton of hope, but, this matchup between the Chiefs and the Seahawks, it's
- 36:34the NFL's rushing yards leader in K9 and the NFL's receiving yards leader in JSN
- 36:41just the second time since 2020 that those two leaders have faced off, and, it
- 36:48just so happens the last time was Jonathan Taylor and the Colts against JSN in 2025.
- 36:56The receiving leader's team has won each of the last three matchups, Adam.
- 37:01Adam: That's interesting, and you do have two offenses that appear to be one player
- 37:07centric right now- Mm-hmm … whether that's K9 or JSN for Brandan: two weeks now.
- 37:11Yeah, 'cause Worthy, who I mentioned, I, I think is the team's leading receiver.
- 37:14Adam: Yeah.
- 37:15Brandan: Yeah.
- 37:15And it's, like, two- barely over 200 yards total on the season.
- 37:20Adam: And I was listening to some guys talk about this earlier this week as well,
- 37:25and, I think they were kind of more fantasy focused, but they were
- 37:28talking about Xavier Worthy and they're like, "Yeah, he looks great during
- 37:32the scripted plays in, like, the first quarter, and then by the time the fourth
- 37:35quarter comes around, he's garbage."
- 37:37I almost lean toward our other receiving options and kind of- I kind
- 37:44of like those a little bit better, but we haven't really seen AJ Barner.
- 37:47We haven't- That's gotta Brandan: change It's got to, right?
- 37:52Adam: It's gotta change.
- 37:53What are we doing?
- 37:54Did AJ Barner just suddenly suck?
- 37:56I doubt it.
- 37:57Like, I don't think that fur coat zapped his powers as a
- 38:00tight end this off-season, right?
- 38:02Like, I think he's a, still a damn good tight end.
- 38:05We gotta start getting him going and start spreading the ball around a little bit.
- 38:10And they're starting Brandan: to get- Is it just because of where he is in the
- 38:13progression of a lot of these routes to where Sam just doesn't get there?
- 38:18Adam: I haven't figured it out yet, and I need to go back and, and really just study
- 38:21Barner, like, every snap to see, like, is he just not getting separation?
- 38:25Is it, is he the sacrificial receiver like most reps?
- 38:30Like, what is going on here?
- 38:31Brandan: That was just in watching, 'cause one of the things, we, we've gotten
- 38:34a lot of Kurt Warner, looking at our offense on his YouTube videos.
- 38:39A lot- Yeah … and, and some of the other quarterbacks, too,
- 38:41that do some of the breakdowns.
- 38:44And when they, that was just the only thing that occurred to me is,
- 38:47is where he is in the progression to where he's not gonna be one of the
- 38:51first two guys that Sam looks to.
- 38:55And because the, we've been giving up quite a bit of pressure, that he
- 39:00just hasn't been able to get to him.
- 39:01And yeah, and let, but why can't you run plays, too, that, where AJ Barner is one
- 39:09of the first two guys in the progression?
- 39:11Adam: I think you can if it's based out of play action.
- 39:14Mm.
- 39:14And since we can't run the football, now the play action doesn't work- Yeah
- 39:17which means that AJ Barner's not involved.
- 39:19It just all goes back to the same exact- Stupid Brandan: running Adam: game … thing.
- 39:24And it's, it's solvable.
- 39:26The horses are coming.
- 39:27We're gonna get Jadarian back the following week.
- 39:30And I know you're gonna hear the narrative going to this, "Oh, three
- 39:35and three Seahawks, this is a must-win.
- 39:37It's a must-win."
- 39:39This is not a must-win.
- 39:40I'm just g- You, you, the next two games- Brandan: But I really, really
- 39:44Adam: want to win Yes, thousand percent.
- 39:46My dad's a massive Chiefs fan, man.
- 39:48I can't live with this if we, if we lose to the Chiefs, right?
- 39:51Like, at the end of the day, they have to win one of the next two
- 39:55games between Chiefs and Bears.
- 39:58You need to be four and four coming out of this stretch with your backs
- 40:01getting healthy, and then make your run.
- 40:04Like, that's, that's what you need to be.
- 40:06And I would almost rather that win be against the Bears if
- 40:10you're not gonna win them both.
- 40:11And which they could.
- 40:12I mean, that's not, it's Brandan: not out of the realm- If you were gonna pick one
- 40:15because they're NFC, it could come down to playoff seeding and- Mm-hmm
- 40:20yeah, and conference record and tiebreakers, I suppose if, if you could-
- 40:26If you could choose ahead of time, then knowing that you, you have to pick one
- 40:30to lose, okay, I guess I'd pick this one.
- 40:33But- Yeah … I want both.
- 40:35I wanna win both.
- 40:36And then- And then you've lost four Adam: or
- 40:37five Brandan: And then beat- And blah, blah, blah
- 40:38and then beat the Cardinals, and then you would go into the bye week
- 40:41with only three losses, and six and three, and then I'd feel pretty good.
- 40:45Adam: Yeah.
- 40:46That, that, that'd be pretty sweet.
- 40:48But look, man, I think that there's an absolute chance that
- 40:51they win this football game.
- 40:53And it'll be interesting to see win, lose or draw out of this.
- 40:59I, I guess this would be the question.
- 41:01If they win this football game, is John more likely to get involved in
- 41:06trying to bring in another player?
- 41:08If you lose this game- Mm … does it mean that he's less likely?
- 41:11Does that…
- 41:12Is that how this works?
- 41:14Because we saw John last year when he looked at this team
- 41:17and went, "You know what?
- 41:18We've got a shot.
- 41:19I'm gonna go get me a Shaheed."
- 41:21And so he did.
- 41:22Sure.
- 41:22Brandan: Yeah.
- 41:23Got Shaheed.
- 41:24I…
- 41:25And they weren't in that position to where you felt like they need it.
- 41:30Well, I guess when you looked at special teams last year and, and with
- 41:35H- once Horton went down, although they got Shaheed before we got the…
- 41:39Well, it's kind of a gray area because did they know Horton was
- 41:43hurt enough before he went on IR?
- 41:47Adam: Yeah.
- 41:47He was definitely injured, but maybe not on IR yet.
- 41:50Brandan: Yeah.
- 41:50He wasn't, because I think it was right after the Commander's
- 41:53game that they got Shaheed.
- 41:54It was r- after the big…
- 41:56'Cause that's the…
- 41:58You're looking at that going, "Well, we just had Horton have this y- breakout
- 42:01game, and now we're bringing in Shaheed."
- 42:05But it turned out that that was really necessary going down the stretch.
- 42:10So, do you want to, do you wanna move on from this game and talk
- 42:14about potential trade options?
- 42:19Adam: You know what?
- 42:19So 45 minutes into this, man, and it all goes back to the, what?
- 42:24First 10 seconds of this pod it feels like.
- 42:26It's like, "Don't turn ball over, win game."
- 42:28Like, so yeah, I think so.
- 42:30I think I'm ready to move on, unless you're not.
- 42:32Unless you got more, man.
- 42:33Brandan: No, it's, it's just that easy,
- 42:37and it's frustrating that it's that easy in these
- 42:42match-ups where, yeah, y- you could…
- 42:45A- and if they lose this game coming on Sunday, that, that's probably
- 42:51what we're gonna look back to.
- 42:53I almost hope that it's something different, to Adam: where- If they, if they
- 42:56were to lose, you hope that it's, like, a different Brandan: reason … that it's not
- 42:59turnovers, that it's just something else.
- 43:03Adam: No, because now you're whack-a-mole-ing.
- 43:05I suppose Like, you yeah.
- 43:07Hey, let's, let's Brandan: keep the- Could it just be the turnovers?
- 43:09Okay.
- 43:09Yeah, just the Adam: one problem- Let- … that we're trying to fix … let's
- 43:11Brandan: just tr- let's just not turn the ball over and win the game then.
- 43:13It's, it's, it's that Adam: eas- Sounds like a plan to me … it's that easy.
- 43:16Yeah.
- 43:16[catfish].
- 43:17The Chiefs, let's do that.
- 43:18That, that'd be Brandan: great So with the,
- 43:23w- with that idea in mind that John Schneider
- 43:27could go and make something happen, I get a sense from fans that if we were to lose
- 43:33this game that they would lean more toward the idea of why go out and do anything?
- 43:39You're, you've got four losses.
- 43:41Mm.
- 43:41The season's, it's, it's feeling like a, a lost cause at four losses.
- 43:47I don't think John Schneider would feel that way.
- 43:48I, I know Mike Macdonald wouldn't feel that way, and there are some
- 43:53teams out there- Mm … that have some interesting pieces, Adam.
- 43:56Adam: There are.
- 43:57And look, e- if you did lose this game, look, there, two of the four
- 44:00divisions in the NFC are a fricking mess.
- 44:03You know, whether that's the, the East or, the South.
- 44:08So it doesn't take a lot to be able to get one of those wildcard spots.
- 44:12So even if you lose this game, yeah, I'd say let's go forth.
- 44:15Let's try to, you know, get into the dance because if you can get into the
- 44:19dance and, like, build on some things, maybe make a, a swing here at the trade
- 44:23deadline that, you know, increases your odds of success here, like let's do it.
- 44:29Let's see if we can run this thing forward.
- 44:31That, that's the way that I'd wanna do it rather than be like, "Oh, I don't
- 44:34want to," especially since we've got a
- 44:36zillion draft picks next Brandan: year It makes
- 44:38sense to maybe give one of those up if you can get a critical player at a position
- 44:44of need, or just to add some depth.
- 44:47I see some players at positions of need and interesting depth pieces.
- 44:53I'm looking at, some of the names on the screen, Adam, some familiar names.
- 44:57The Eagles- Yeah … I see you put Riq Woolen up here
- 45:00as a possible trade candidate.
- 45:01Adam: Listen, I, like, you know, I mean, Eagles are about ready to sell it all,
- 45:05and he's on a one-year deal, right?
- 45:07Brandan: Yeah.
- 45:07Would you rather have…
- 45:08Say the, the draft pick compensation is the same.
- 45:13Say y- you're looking at maybe, I don't know, a third or fourth
- 45:17rounder, and you call up the Eagles and they say, "Oh yeah, we, we'd
- 45:21like a third or a fourth rounder."
- 45:23Take your pick, Saquon or Riq.
- 45:26Adam: Who you picking?
- 45:27Oh, Saquon all day.
- 45:28I, I have zero interest in bringing Riq back.
- 45:30Okay.
- 45:31Like, me personally.
- 45:31But I put him on there because I know a lot of people do have that interest.
- 45:35I think Pritchett's playing well enough for sure, and- I Brandan: think it's a
- 45:38discussion because Saquon- Yeah … you worry about some injury factor.
- 45:42Mm-hmm.
- 45:42Riq you worry about the physicality factor and the run game- The mentals
- 45:47which feels incompatible, but, yeah, I, I'd have a hard time thinking that they
- 45:53would just go ahead and take Riq back.
- 45:56Adam: Yeah, especially, the…
- 45:58For, like, a sixth?
- 45:59Okay.
- 46:00Like, I, I don't, I don't think Riq fetches anything
- 46:03close to a third or a fourth.
- 46:05Brandan: Yeah.
- 46:06He started out okay.
- 46:08Adam: Yeah, I know, but he- the league told you what they think of him with
- 46:12Brandan: the one year- One year deal, yeah
- 46:14Adam: yeah, not a lot of money deal.
- 46:16And Saquon, like, you're not relying on him necessarily to be
- 46:21that dude all the time, right?
- 46:24Brandan: The Jonathan Taylor name is very intriguing to me because he's a guy that
- 46:29they just paid in Indianapolis, and- Mm-hmm … I know a lot of people look
- 46:34at that and go, "Well, they wouldn't pay Canine, so why would they wanna
- 46:37bring in a Jonathan Taylor contract?"
- 46:40Adam: Yeah, that's my thought.
- 46:41Brandan: Yeah.
- 46:41And I, I…
- 46:44Oh yeah, I, I think that's why it sounded so familiar.
- 46:46I, I heard that from me talking to you yesterday.
- 46:49Yeah.
- 46:50And- I, I wonder if, if John Schneider had known that he was getting a top
- 47:01three, four back in the league, because when I think of the top four backs,
- 47:06I think of Bijan Robinson, I think of Jonathan Taylor, I think of Derrick Henry.
- 47:10Adam: Although- Ken Brandan: Walker … a- and, well, Kenneth Walker now, but if you
- 47:15would've asked me that in the off season- Mm … I wouldn't have…
- 47:18I, I probably would've put Saquon ahead of him.
- 47:20Yeah.
- 47:21I…
- 47:22Gosh, and w- is there anybody else that I'm forgetting about that belongs- Oh,
- 47:26geez … kind of in the top five category?
- 47:28But, you know, that top four is- Adam: Those are the…
- 47:31Brandan: Yeah … is pretty solid to Adam: me … those are the names.
- 47:33Yeah.
- 47:34Yeah.
- 47:35No, those would definitely be the guys.
- 47:36So between Saquon and Jonathan Taylor, I, I'm much more
- 47:40interested in Jonathan Taylor.
- 47:41I love his style.
- 47:42Cool.
- 47:42Yeah.
- 47:43Brandan: Way more.
- 47:43Like, yeah.
- 47:44He, he feels like- He's had some injuries too- Mm-hmm … but not to the level of
- 47:51injuries that we've seen out of Saquon.
- 47:54The other thing about Taylor is you do- you would get him for
- 47:56multiple years at a fairly, what I would call reasonable amount.
- 48:02Because, you, you look at this, and this is if he were to be traded,
- 48:07and the Seahawks would get him.
- 48:09He- they'd take on a $6 million cap hit this year, definitely within the
- 48:14amount of cap that they have available.
- 48:1627 would be 16 million.
- 48:1928, 18 million, and that's relatively similar to what I think Canine's at
- 48:2715 for each of the next two years.
- 48:29Mm-hmm.
- 48:30Jonathan Taylor's been much more consistent over his career, to
- 48:35w- and yeah, to where I would be a lot more comfortable if, if Jonathan
- 48:41Taylor were on this team last year, and the same thing would've happened
- 48:45if, even if he was splitting carries with Charves, but he goes on to be MVP.
- 48:50Like this is the type of contract that I would've said in the off-season that
- 48:53it's a no-brainer, and it, it feel…
- 48:57That's why it feels like it's a no-brainer with Canine because you
- 49:00look at the production through this part of the season and you go, "Oh
- 49:03yeah, well, I would've done that."
- 49:05But we didn't know for sure that this is what we see from Canine
- 49:10through the first six games.
- 49:12Adam: We didn't know that, and then kind of go back to the John thing
- 49:14that I, I wanted to mention about him not offering him a contract.
- 49:17So like you're, you're not…
- 49:18He seemed dead set he wasn't gonna pay that kind of money for a back, right?
- 49:22Mm-hmm.
- 49:23So if that's the case, then why would you make him an insulting
- 49:26offer of like 8 million?
- 49:28Like- Sure … sure, you might as well just not give him an offer, which,
- 49:31you know- Right … that's fine by me.
- 49:33But I'm glad that you pulled this up because when we talked about this the
- 49:36other day, you said, "Ah, I think it wouldn't be as bad as you think in
- 49:39terms of the cap," and holy smokes, a $6 million cat hit, cap hit for this year?
- 49:46Mm.
- 49:46Sign me up all day.
- 49:47Like what would this cost you?
- 49:49A third?
- 49:52Brandan: A second?
- 49:53I was thinking probably a second based on the contract and- Yeah, where Taylor's at.
- 50:01I've, I've heard some people speculate too that maybe the Colts would want a running
- 50:06back in return Adam: and- Brandan: Sweet …
- 50:09yeah, if it's, well, if it's Wilson, for sure.
- 50:13Adam: I've got an Emanuel Wilson right here for you boys.
- 50:16Brandan: Then you're definitely gonna have to
- 50:17pay a two if you're throwing Emanuel Wilson in.
- 50:19Adam: Fine by me, man.
- 50:21Like Colts aren't going anywhere.
- 50:22They're firing everybody.
- 50:23Brandan: And Charbonnet's getting to the last year of his contract too, right?
- 50:26Adam: Yes.
- 50:27It's gotta be really close here if Brandan: it's not this year, man.
- 50:29Yeah, 'cause he was drafted the year after K9.
- 50:31Adam: That's correct, yeah.
- 50:32No, you're, you're right.
- 50:33Yep.
- 50:34So yeah, maybe I would do that trade though, like Charbonnet and a
- 50:39third for Jonathan Taylor all day.
- 50:42Yeah.
- 50:42I'd do that all day.
- 50:43Because here's the thing, is that this defense isn't, especially up
- 50:50front, isn't exactly the youngest of bunches, and it's really difficult
- 50:55to keep elite defenses together, and they managed to do it this year.
- 51:00'Cause you'll see this oftentimes, you'll have an elite defense one year, and then
- 51:03it's not an elite defense the second year.
- 51:05Mike's a good enough coach to where he's been able to keep that
- 51:07level of play up with these older veterans, especially up front.
- 51:12Th- this window isn't infinite, right, to cash in on this defense.
- 51:17Yeah.
- 51:18This sort of trade to get somebody like Jonathan Taylor, who that would then fix
- 51:22your Sam Darnold problem and fix your offensive line problem all at the same
- 51:26time, like, yes please, all day long.
- 51:29I, I would do this.
- 51:30Let's make our run.
- 51:31Shoot our shot.
- 51:32Let's go.
- 51:33Brandan: Yeah.
- 51:34You ha- you're counting on the Colts and not having a general manager
- 51:38now that they fired their GM- Mm
- 51:40to be willing to make that kind of move, and- I'm sure they've got a guy … and
- 51:44that's why, so you got Jonathan Taylor.
- 51:45Quenton Nelson's on there.
- 51:47That's an interesting name at guard, you know, an All-Pro guard.
- 51:51DeForest Buckner, All-Pro defensive tackle.
- 51:55Adam: Yeah, the Buckner one, I put that on there only because it was like,
- 51:59do we need a DeForest Buckner?
- 52:01Not really, but- Brandan: No, not Adam: really … with that said, does it
- 52:05keep him off the 49ers potentially?
- 52:09Brandan: Yeah.
- 52:10That would be the obvious place for him to go, right?
- 52:13Vita Vea, get him back in the Pacific Northwest.
- 52:17I see his name down there for the Bucs.
- 52:20Kenneth Gainwell is an interesting name.
- 52:22Adam: Bucky Irving.
- 52:23I'd be- Other- I'd be curious about Bucky.
- 52:26Brandan: Yeah.
- 52:26Is he hurt now, though?
- 52:28Adam: Is he hurt?
- 52:28Oh, I didn't know that.
- 52:29Okay.
- 52:30Brandan: Well, that- I don't know.
- 52:31That's not the…
- 52:32I don't follow the Bucs close enough.
- 52:34Yeah.
- 52:35Got a lot of Chargers names on here, including quarterback Justin Herbert.
- 52:40Adam: I just thought it was funny.
- 52:41Like, and also too, with Sam playing the way that he's playing- Sure
- 52:46I mean, how many of you would rather see insert Justin Herbert all of a sudden?
- 52:53Brandan: I'm not saying no to it immediately.
- 52:54I'm intrigued by the idea.
- 52:56I just- Yeah.
- 52:58Adam: But it's- Salary- Brandan: Yeah … I,
- 53:00I haven't, I haven't even looked at what that would
- 53:02do to the team salary cap wise because I- that's the, the way that John Schneider
- 53:07has engineered this, it's for- Yeah
- 53:09a mid-tier quarterback that you can build a defense and, technically a
- 53:14run game around, which, that hasn't worked out to this point of the season.
- 53:18Khalil Mack is a name that, coming off the edge, like that feels like a name,
- 53:24and a guy that you could probably get for relatively cheap because- Mm-hmm
- 53:28he's on a one-year deal, he's getting up there in age, bring him
- 53:31on to a championship caliber team.
- 53:34That one to me, of all the names on here, feels like the most likely and maybe the
- 53:41best fit for the amount, the relative amount of draft, draft compensation.
- 53:46Adam: Gotcha.
- 53:47So I, the, the names that pop off to me are Taylor, Quenton
- 53:54Nelson, Khalil Mack, and Njoku.
- 53:58And the reason why Njoku is somebody that I think about is just with
- 54:03Brandan: Arroyo being hurt- He's out … I- He's on IR for the year now.
- 54:07Adam: Oh, for the year.
- 54:08Okay.
- 54:08Yeah.
- 54:08I thought maybe it was just a few week IR.
- 54:10Brandan: No.
- 54:10They said he's out for the year.
- 54:12Adam: Dang.
- 54:13So bad shoulder there.
- 54:15Yeah, I could see them, you know, k- really being able to use
- 54:19somebody of Njoku's, skill set.
- 54:22I, I've always liked him as a player.
- 54:24Brandan: Yeah.
- 54:25That's a good call because- We've carried
- 54:28Kallerup up on this roster for a lot- Mm-hmm
- 54:32… and, and watched him be inactive.
- 54:34But- Mm-hmm … have, has he, have they been stashing them for a reason,
- 54:39Stashing him there for a reason so now he can come in and be that
- 54:43breakout tight end that we just never knew that we had on the roster?
- 54:48Adam: Okay.
- 54:49I mean, maybe.
- 54:50He's a good blocker.
- 54:54So- Yeah … yeah.
- 54:56Brandan: Njoku would be an upgrade.
- 54:58Adam: He would definitely be an upgrade.
- 54:59But those are just some names that have been bandied about.
- 55:01A few of the teams that have been bandied about as being sellers at
- 55:05the trade deadline, you know, some other teams that might be, like the
- 55:07Cards come up a lot, and, I just figured it's not worth talking about
- 55:13the Cards at all because it's not like there's a lot of assets there that I'm
- 55:16interested in to begin with, and then secondly, trading with- James Conner
- 55:18the division.
- 55:21Yeah.
- 55:21Yeah.
- 55:22I don't know what this version of James Conner looks like anymore.
- 55:25Brandan: No, I don't either.
- 55:25Yeah.
- 55:28But that's the one name from the Cardinals that I can think of who
- 55:32would have a spot on this roster and be able to come in and contribute.
- 55:36Adam: Let me think here.
- 55:37Is James Conner better than Emanuel Wilson?
- 55:39Hell yes, he is.
- 55:40Let's go.
- 55:41I don't care if I haven't seen him in, like, a year and a half.
- 55:43Brandan: No, I'd take James Conner with no feet.
- 55:49Adam: Yeah, I think that's, I think that's fair.
- 55:51But interesting discussions.
- 55:53I know it's been bandied about Brandan: by- I'm sorry.
- 55:55We, we shouldn't be so hard on one of our own dudes with Emanuel
- 55:57Wilson, but it's been tough to watch.
- 56:00Adam: Whatever, man.
- 56:01I…
- 56:01It's not all sunshine and rainbows, you know?
- 56:03Like, i- in…
- 56:05If we're gonna talk about this team and be honest about it on the regular,
- 56:08then, you know, there's gonna be some guys that catch some strays.
- 56:11And it…
- 56:12Look, it's not just the production, it's the…
- 56:15Stylistically, I can't stand the style.
- 56:18Mm-hmm.
- 56:18And so that, it all comes together for me in a big puddle of nope.
- 56:23And I know a lot of people were excited about him, including Clinton,
- 56:26When they brought him in for the Packers, and I was like, "okay.
- 56:30Looks like a barely a dude to me, Brandan: but-" Adam: Yeah … whatever.
- 56:34Brandan: But he had some nice up the middle
- 56:36stuff when, when I saw him with the Vikings.
- 56:39And- Packers I thought he was with the Vikings.
- 56:42No, Packers.
- 56:44Was he with both teams?
- 56:47Adam: That I don't know.
- 56:48I know his last stop was the Packers.
- 56:52Brandan: Okay.
- 56:52Yeah.
- 56:53Yeah, okay, it was the Packers.
- 56:54Maybe it's…
- 56:56Maybe I'm getting him confused with another running back then.
- 56:58With Mason maybe?
- 56:59Adam: Yeah, maybe.
- 57:00Yeah.
- 57:01'Cause he, he…
- 57:02When he was with the Niners, that Mason kid, I was kinda
- 57:04like, "Hmm, that's interesting."
- 57:06Kind of a slasher, thumper type.
- 57:09Brandan: Yeah.
- 57:09Little bit of burst.
- 57:10The Niners' fans were, were not happy that they let him go either.
- 57:13Yeah
- 57:16Well, we could Adam: use- But I don't even know if they need to make
- 57:19any of these moves, Brandan.
- 57:20I think some of the answers are just naturally there waiting to come
- 57:24back- Yeah … and just get healthy.
- 57:26Brandan: Run the ball, stop turning it over.
- 57:28Adam: Yeah.
- 57:29Brandan: Win games.
- 57:30It's gonna make this team look a lot better.
- 57:32Adam: Yeah.
- 57:32Run ball, don't turn it over, win game.
- 57:34Brandan: Done.
- 57:36Just like Josh Dobbs saying, "See ball, get ball."
- 57:38Sometimes the game is just that easy.
- 57:40Adam: It is, it is.
- 57:41It's incredibly complex, complicated game, and, sometimes it's
- 57:46just stupid simple, and that's where we're at right now.
- 57:50Brandan: Well, we are at the end of the first half of the show.
- 57:54Let's take a quick break, come back, and get into some news from the flock, some,
- 57:59Do Better and Better at Life Adam.
- 58:01Adam: All right.
- 58:09Brandan: To the Arrowhead Chief podcast for having me on this week.
- 58:13I went on with those guys.
- 58:14We talked a little Seahawks, Chiefs matchup earlier on this week.
- 58:19It was fun.
- 58:19I, you know, I haven't done a ton of, other shows this year,
- 58:24and yeah, going on and getting to, to talk about our Seahawks and…
- 58:29I, I was a little bit disappointed that I didn't get to…
- 58:33Oh, I told you this Adam.
- 58:35Adam: But- Yeah, no, this is great though.
- 58:36You need to share this with the audience, 'cause this was hilarious.
- 58:39Brandan: Yeah.
- 58:39Well, sometimes shows will share the questions that they plan to ask,
- 58:43and it's kind of nice because then you can have some stuff prepared.
- 58:46Some shows, like I don't generally send questions unless somebody asks.
- 58:51If, if I invite someone on the show and they say, "Oh yeah, what
- 58:54questions do you wanna talk about?"
- 58:55And then it's like, okay, well I gotta prepare some, some questions
- 58:58now, which you know, generally it's, it's more of off the top of the head.
- 59:03You, you have a couple things that you might plan to ask somebody.
- 59:06But this was a pretty good list.
- 59:08One of the things that, they wanted to ask about is what the,
- 59:13What the Seahawks needed to do in this game to get the upset.
- 59:19And- Man, I wish they would've asked me that question because…
- 59:23Oh, I haven't looked at the line lately, but earlier in the week we
- 59:26were favored to win this football game.
- 59:28Adam: I looked yesterday, it was Hawks minus two and a half.
- 59:32Brandan: Okay.
- 59:32Yeah.
- 59:32That's what it was earlier in the week, so it hasn't even moved.
- 59:35Adam: Yeah.
- 59:36Or yeah, at Brandan: least at the time.
- 59:37Does that feel right?
- 59:38Does, does it feel right that we should be…
- 59:40Home field advantage generally you get three points, is- Adam: I think that's done
- 59:45Brandan: … kind of the Vegas standard, right?
- 59:47Adam: Yeah.
- 59:47Are we done with that?
- 59:47I don't…
- 59:48I think we're done with that.
- 59:49'Cause I, I don't think- Yeah … the home field is what it used to be.
- 59:52But maybe in Seattle they, they Brandan: still-
- 59:54Adam: Sure … make that a, a part of the line.
- 59:57Brandan: But- But does it feel strange that we should be favored in a matchup over…
- 1:00:00'Cause at first, the upset thing, it didn't hit me as hard
- 1:00:05because I thought, oh yeah, we…
- 1:00:07They're undefeated.
- 1:00:09But then I'm also thinking, well, we're at home and we're the Super Bowl champs.
- 1:00:14Adam: Yeah.
- 1:00:14And I, I kinda feel like these teams are fairly equally
- 1:00:19matched for this game as well.
- 1:00:21And it's gonna be interesting to see how it all plays out.
- 1:00:25And anything under three points to me is kinda like a, you know,
- 1:00:29pretty much even odds kinda deal.
- 1:00:31So, yeah, I, I feel like that line, Seahawks minus two
- 1:00:35and a half is, is pretty legit.
- 1:00:37That feels about right.
- 1:00:40Brandan: Who are the Rams gonna lose to this week?
- 1:00:42Adam: Ya ma.
- 1:00:44I don't know.
- 1:00:45Who, who's, who's next for them?
- 1:00:47I think it gets a little easier for them for a stretch here.
- 1:00:51Brandan: Oh, they play the, the Adam: Raiders- Oh, yeah
- 1:00:54in Vegas.
- 1:00:54Yeah.
- 1:00:55Brandan: That's, Come on, Klint- [catfish] y'all … you owe us one.
- 1:00:59Adam: Get it done.
- 1:01:01I don't think Klint's gotten tired of, beating the Rams yet,
- 1:01:04so, that'll be interesting.
- 1:01:06Rams are, or Raiders are legit this year.
- 1:01:10Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:01:10They did put in Mendoza there at the end of the game.
- 1:01:14I don't know if that was just because they were getting beat so bad type
- 1:01:19of thing that Adam: they- I think so
- 1:01:20Brandan: they let him go out and take some snaps,
- 1:01:25but, yeah How great would that feel?
- 1:01:28It would, it would feel almost as good as it felt last week watching
- 1:01:32them lose to the Cardinals.
- 1:01:34Adam: I'll tell you this, if the Rams lose to the Raiders and they ring
- 1:01:39up their fifth Brandan: loss- Adam: Yeah … right?
- 1:01:42That's when I'm ready to start s- you know, putting a stake through the
- 1:01:45heart of this iteration of the Rams.
- 1:01:48Yeah.
- 1:01:50Like, that, that…
- 1:01:51'Cause at four losses, I'm not there at all.
- 1:01:53I'm like, "You know?"
- 1:01:54Brandan: Like- No … Miles Garrett could come back.
- 1:01:56Because they have the Chargers after that, the Commanders, the, then
- 1:01:59another match up with the Cardinals.
- 1:02:02I, I- Yeah … don't think that they're gonna go 0 and 2 against the Cardinals.
- 1:02:06Adam: I didn't think that they were gonna go 0 for 1 against the
- 1:02:08Cardinals either, so there's that.
- 1:02:11Brandan: But then they have the Packers and
- 1:02:12the Chiefs, and the Packers are playing good.
- 1:02:14Jordan Love is looking like the dude.
- 1:02:16Yeah.
- 1:02:16And if the Chiefs…
- 1:02:19You know, they're gonna have at least one loss going into that game, but
- 1:02:23the, the Chiefs could, you know, put on a show against that Rams defense.
- 1:02:28Adam: They surely could.
- 1:02:29I, it…
- 1:02:31I mean, they're, they're one loss away from this being,
- 1:02:34like- Insurmountable, right?
- 1:02:37… it's, it spiral.
- 1:02:38Yeah, it's spiraled to a point to where you're not gonna pull yourself back
- 1:02:40out, especially with Stafford at the point now where he's just terrified
- 1:02:44to get hit in the pocket, and McVay seemingly not wanting to run the
- 1:02:51football in any way, shape, or form.
- 1:02:53It, it's so bizarre.
- 1:02:55Brandan: Despite having Kyren Williams, who's now being a pouty pants about it?
- 1:03:00Adam: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:01I mean, delightfully average guys get, you know, pouty pants when
- 1:03:04they don't get the rock as much as they seem to think that they should.
- 1:03:07I mean, I…
- 1:03:08Everybody wildly overrates him and Blake Corum.
- 1:03:11Like, they're both, they're, they're better than the two backs
- 1:03:13we're starting now by a margin.
- 1:03:15I- Sure … that's not what I'm saying.
- 1:03:16Brandan: Yeah, either one of them would be an upgrade on, to our backfield as
- 1:03:20it stands b- pre-Charbonnet returning.
- 1:03:23Adam: Yeah, but, like, Kyren Williams to me is a back that's, like, an eyelash above
- 1:03:28average, and then Blake Corum is fine.
- 1:03:31Brandan: Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:31Niners won again, though, so screw them.
- 1:03:33Look, happy for the Cards, though, since we're talking division.
- 1:03:36This is when we talk our division rivals, right?
- 1:03:38Adam: Yeah.
- 1:03:38Like, huzzah to the Cards.
- 1:03:40That, that was fun.
- 1:03:43Brandan: That was fun.
- 1:03:44I was a little bit worried.
- 1:03:45They, they were cruising along 15-9, and then the Rams get the ball back with three
- 1:03:53minutes to go, and I was, I was concerned that they were gonna blow it, but the
- 1:04:00Rams left the Cardinals with enough time?
- 1:04:04Adam: Oh yeah, and gosh, listening to all three of the Ram fans, you know,
- 1:04:08from the Ramly, talk about this, they are just apoplectic about
- 1:04:14that, unnecessary roughness call that added 15 yards onto the…
- 1:04:20They act like it wasn't a f- like a 30-yard bomb from Brissett over
- 1:04:23the middle to, the Wilson kid.
- 1:04:27And they're just like, "Oh, that's what put 'em in field goal range."
- 1:04:30And it's like, well, okay, they were only one play from field goal
- 1:04:33range without, without that penalty, and there was still time and all of that.
- 1:04:37But look, he hit him in the head.
- 1:04:39I don't care if it, Brandan: like Yeah, but they let the 49ers do that all
- 1:04:44game long last week and didn't call Adam: anything Well, I'm not saying the
- 1:04:49refs are fantastically consistent.
- 1:04:50But what I am saying is that is, by the letter of the law, a hit to the head.
- 1:04:57It's, it's contact to the head of a defenseless receiver.
- 1:04:59I hate the rule.
- 1:05:01I can't stand the rule.
- 1:05:02I want them to change this, like, pronto because defenders have no
- 1:05:07chance to play clean football, you know, for the most part.
- 1:05:11B- if a guy…
- 1:05:12Like, 'cause that was kind of a circus catch.
- 1:05:14Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:14Like, good luck targeting that- Yeah … if you're Wallace from the Rams, right?
- 1:05:19But, oh, just the whining and complaining and the McVay.
- 1:05:23I, I don't know if at the end of the game he screamed into his call sheet or not.
- 1:05:26Like, I, I'd like to go back and look 'cause there's very few things that
- 1:05:30give me as much joy in life as Sean McVay screaming into a piece of plastic.
- 1:05:35Brandan: And being just pissed at the end of a football game.
- 1:05:39Adam: What a crybaby he is.
- 1:05:42Just a pouty little this entire season.
- 1:05:46"Oh, the football god just said that I can't just buy a championship.
- 1:05:51Well, boo hoo.
- 1:05:53What am I gonna do?
- 1:05:54Maybe I'll just take my ball and go broadcast next year."
- 1:05:58Brandan: Man.
- 1:05:58What gave- Little … Sean McVay and Les Snead the idea that they
- 1:06:03could play versus the football gods?
- 1:06:08Like, they, they, this off-season they said, "Okay, football gods, we will take
- 1:06:11you on and build a super team even though all throughout history you've said in
- 1:06:16the past you would never allow this."
- 1:06:18Right.
- 1:06:19"We, we are gonna do it anyway."
- 1:06:21And the football gods said, "Oh, no.
- 1:06:24Adam: No you're not."
- 1:06:25No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:06:26I- it's beautiful.
- 1:06:28I love the football gods in this respect.
- 1:06:30They've got this right.
- 1:06:32You can't microwave a championship in the NFL.
- 1:06:34This isn't the NBA where you can just go get a big three and just
- 1:06:38hang a banner and call it a day.
- 1:06:40Like, y- this is a, a real deal sport where you gotta do things
- 1:06:43the right way, and the gods will punish or reward you accordingly.
- 1:06:46And this is, this is so glorious, this downfall of the Rams.
- 1:06:51Like, I can't get enough of listening to people talk about this pathetic
- 1:06:57Rams team sitting at two and four at the bottom of the division.
- 1:07:01It is so wonderful.
- 1:07:03Brandan: Well, I, I feel like I'd be getting a little bit greedy, and maybe I
- 1:07:06don't wanna be greedy against the football gods as we go in and we
- 1:07:09face an undefeated Chiefs team.
- 1:07:12Mm.
- 1:07:12But I wouldn't mind Michael Penix getting a win over the Niners this Sunday either.
- 1:07:18Adam: Yeah.
- 1:07:19Look, man, the Falcons, they're an up and down team.
- 1:07:24And when they put it together and they…
- 1:07:26Don't forget about Bijan They look really good.
- 1:07:31Now, if you're gonna try to rely on Penix with, you know, Drake
- 1:07:35London and then a bunch of mediocre guys, th- then it looks bad.
- 1:07:39So it's tough, man.
- 1:07:41It, it, it's tough to see the path to victory, but then again, just
- 1:07:47hand the ball to Bijan and all of a sudden magic happens, right?
- 1:07:49Football gods love Bijan.
- 1:07:51Brandan: That's the- That's the formula.
- 1:07:52That's the formula- Yeah … the Falcons have found success with.
- 1:07:55So can they do it against the Niners?
- 1:07:58I am sure hoping they do.
- 1:08:00Adam: I don't love that matchup of Falcons defense versus the Niners offense.
- 1:08:05Yeah.
- 1:08:06That scares me a little.
- 1:08:07Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:08:07It's, it doesn't look good at all.
- 1:08:09You, you just hope that it can be a 30 to 27 point game that the Falcons are
- 1:08:15able to, make it work with, you know?
- 1:08:19Yeah.
- 1:08:19Limit the number of possessions.
- 1:08:21Falcons score on all of them, and hold the Niners to some field goals hopefully.
- 1:08:27Adam: For sure.
- 1:08:28I, I'm just kinda curious, like I, I don't know that I would
- 1:08:31hate if the Niners win this game.
- 1:08:35What…
- 1:08:35I, I'm trying to find their schedule here real
- 1:08:36quick as I, I'm Brandan: thinking out loud.
- 1:08:38It's the, they…
- 1:08:38The Niners have Falcons this week, then they come back home, they're playing
- 1:08:41the Raiders, then Cowboys, then Vikings.
- 1:08:45Adam: What is the, what does their finish look like?
- 1:08:48Oh, Here, I'm pulling it up right now
- 1:08:53'Cause this is, this is what I want the football gods to grant all of us here.
- 1:08:57Okay.
- 1:08:57Brandan: Come on.
- 1:08:58So after the bye week, they have us for…
- 1:09:02Well, n- after our bye Adam: week- Brandan: Mm-hmm …
- 1:09:05they, we face them, and then their
- 1:09:07last six games are Giants, Rams, Chargers, Chiefs, Eagles, Cardinals.
- 1:09:16Adam: Damn.
- 1:09:17Okay.
- 1:09:17Well, my wish isn't gonna come true because, I just want enough to
- 1:09:21win, like, a bunch of games in a row here and then, like, finish the game,
- 1:09:25like, or finish the season 0 and five.
- 1:09:27Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:09:28After they play us- Yeah … it, the, the Chiefs and I guess the Rams
- 1:09:34are their- Dang … two toughest match-ups because the Eagles are done.
- 1:09:37The Chargers are gonna stay done.
- 1:09:39The Cardinals and Niners, that match up doesn't work, and then
- 1:09:42the Giants, I mean, unless we get- Maybe JJ … awesome JJ McCarthy.
- 1:09:47Adam: Yeah.
- 1:09:47I don't know, man.
- 1:09:48You know, it's funny, did you watch any of the JJ stuff?
- 1:09:51No.
- 1:09:51From the one quarter?
- 1:09:52I, I did.
- 1:09:53So he had some, like…
- 1:09:55He had, like, a bomb at one point where he gets kinda, like, tip drilled
- 1:09:58and his guy comes down with it.
- 1:10:00And that, like, contributes massively to things.
- 1:10:02It's not like he went out there and was laser-focused
- 1:10:05and sharp and, like, precision.
- 1:10:06Brandan: Oh, well, that's what it made it- Yeah … sound like with the stats.
- 1:10:08Oh, McCarthy came in and threw for 240 yards in the fourth quarter.
- 1:10:13Adam: Yeah.
- 1:10:13Yeah, at 11 minutes, man.
- 1:10:15Look at what JJ McCarthy did.
- 1:10:17And I'm not…
- 1:10:18I, I liked McCarthy as a prospect, so I, I think he has talent.
- 1:10:22We'll see Brandan: what happens here.
- 1:10:23But it wasn't like he came in and was Dan Marino ripping it all over the yard.
- 1:10:27Adam: I mean, he had a couple nice balls.
- 1:10:28He had a couple bad balls and yeah, I mean, it just kinda went
- 1:10:32his way a little bit i- in spots.
- 1:10:34But I do wanna see him succeed just so that I don't have to
- 1:10:38listen to Jaxson Dart hype anymore.
- 1:10:42Brandan: I wonder how that'll work out if he goes on a tear, if Giants
- 1:10:46fans will be like, "Jackson who?"
- 1:10:50Adam: I mean, he can't stay healthy.
- 1:10:52He has the maturity level of a 13-year-old.
- 1:10:55And, you know, his legs are a big part of his game, but he doesn't have an NFL arm.
- 1:11:01I've been trying to tell people this since the draft.
- 1:11:03Sure.
- 1:11:04And everybody acts like that he is something that he definitively isn't.
- 1:11:09Yeah.
- 1:11:09I, I don't know.
- 1:11:10Brandan: Hmm.
- 1:11:13All right.
- 1:11:14Well, some people who we know exactly who they are.
- 1:11:17It is our members of the flock, our executive producers, TCH,
- 1:11:21Ryan Peterson, Lisa Carlson, Dave Bloomquist, James Gertz, Brian
- 1:11:27Shaw, and Marq, AKA Godzirwa Hawk.
- 1:11:31And we welcome back in, well, or just, Jason Bonner re-upping this last week,
- 1:11:37sending $36- Yeah … via Venmo, @hawkra.
- 1:11:41A big thanks to Jason.
- 1:11:43Adam: A big thanks to Jason.
- 1:11:44Hey, man, look, if you enjoy this show or have just kind of chuckled at least
- 1:11:49twice, if the Chiefs handling the D made you chuckle, like at that point,
- 1:11:53you're getting a little bit of value.
- 1:11:55And all we ask is, you know, once you're past two years of freeloading, if you
- 1:11:59can, the freeloader period's cool.
- 1:12:00Like, we're all good with it, especially in this economy.
- 1:12:02Like, we all get it.
- 1:12:03Yeah.
- 1:12:04But, you know, if that gave you a chuckle, you know, a dollar a month
- 1:12:07on Patreon, like that'd be amazing.
- 1:12:08Like, y- we'll, we'll take, we'll take your money.
- 1:12:10Like, however it is that you're willing to, you know, give it to us,
- 1:12:14and, just value for value, folks.
- 1:12:16So, for all those that are our little flockers already,
- 1:12:20We appreciate you a ton.
- 1:12:22And, you know, and if you can't do that, like, I…
- 1:12:25Again, I get it in this economy.
- 1:12:26I mean, diesel's what?
- 1:12:28$46 a gallon at this point.
- 1:12:30Something like that … you know, just hit like, hit subscribe, leave
- 1:12:32a review on iTunes or, you know, wherever else you listen to podcasts.
- 1:12:36All that helps a crap ton, and please and thank you.
- 1:12:40Brandan: Value for value.
- 1:12:42Adam will also accept the D.
- 1:12:45Adam: I will.
- 1:12:47Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:12:47As in the big dollars.
- 1:12:49The big dollars.
- 1:12:52Yeah, that's what we're talking about, with value to value, value for value.
- 1:12:55Just if you, if you get value in the entertainment, in us doing these shows
- 1:12:59four or five times a week, and, that's y- you f- you find some way to,
- 1:13:05to kick it back a little bit in return, you can go to seahawkerspodcast.com,
- 1:13:09click the donate button there.
- 1:13:11We even take paper checks.
- 1:13:12I n- maybe I don't say that enough.
- 1:13:14For- Yeah … you know, people of our age or upward, they, they
- 1:13:17might still use the checkbook.
- 1:13:18We have an address there on the website you can mail paper checks to,
- 1:13:22@hawkra on Venmo, and, of course there's always getintheflock.com.
- 1:13:28Adam: There is.
- 1:13:28I didn't even know they made paper checks anymore.
- 1:13:31Brandan: Oh, yeah.
- 1:13:31They…
- 1:13:32There's nowhere that really takes them anymore, but you could still, I don't
- 1:13:36know, maybe, maybe, healthcare.
- 1:13:38You could, you can pay your healthcare bills with checks.
- 1:13:40Maybe that's the one place that still takes them.
- 1:13:42Adam: I don't know, man.
- 1:13:43I had a little old lady write a check in the checkout line the
- 1:13:45other day, in front of me.
- 1:13:48There's not much that lights my hair on fire as much as that.
- 1:13:50Just use your card.
- 1:13:51It's the same damn thing.
- 1:13:54Like- Comes out Brandan: of the same account.
- 1:13:55Yeah.
- 1:13:56Adam: It- And then they all write in calligraphy.
- 1:13:58It takes them 45 freaking minutes to do it.
- 1:14:01Oh, my gosh.
- 1:14:02Then they have to run it through the scanner that, like, rips the
- 1:14:05check, and like, you know, back and forth and back and forth.
- 1:14:08Brandan: Oh, my God.
- 1:14:09Yeah.
- 1:14:10I don't think, you know, the people at the cash registers care.
- 1:14:13I, but that's…
- 1:14:14Th- there are processing fees that go with the checks, which
- 1:14:17is one thing that I appreciate.
- 1:14:18Mm.
- 1:14:19That, you know, if…
- 1:14:21Because whether you pay through, or y- if you go to getintheflock.com,
- 1:14:25like, th- that, they take processing payments for the platform- Yeah
- 1:14:29that helps, which is fine, you know?
- 1:14:32Or if you support on YouTube, like, they're, they're helping o- they're
- 1:14:35facilitating, which is worth something, but some people go, "Ah, d- th-
- 1:14:39those guys don't need any money."
- 1:14:41Adam: Yeah.
- 1:14:41I mean, it's hard- In that Brandan: case, paper checks are the way to go.
- 1:14:44Adam: Yeah, keep the money out of the hands of the Google tyrants
- 1:14:49Brandan: How to do better and better at Adam: life All right, man.
- 1:14:53Brandan: Oh, wait.
- 1:14:53I do have an email.
- 1:14:54Before we get there.
- 1:14:55Adam: Oh.
- 1:14:55Well, geez, yeah, let's not jump the shark here.
- 1:14:57Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:14:58Well, Patrick Yelinski, one of our members at getintheflock.com-
- 1:15:02Nice … sent me a message the other day, says, "Okay, I just joined as a member
- 1:15:06on YouTube, but I have to know- Adam: Hell
- 1:15:08Brandan: yeah … do Adam and I have a connection?
- 1:15:10It seems like his take on what this offense needs is in lockstep with mine.
- 1:15:14Everyone is screaming, 'Fire Fleury, bench Sam,' et cetera.
- 1:15:19It all starts with the running game.
- 1:15:23Also, in the Velus Jones Jr.
- 1:15:25outside run, you gotta notice JSN blocking their DB straight into our bench.
- 1:15:29We have so much meat on the bones in the running game as a result of these
- 1:15:32non-explosive backs we are trotting out.
- 1:15:35Anyway, that is all.
- 1:15:37Adam: Good night."
- 1:15:40There's nothing but applause for that.
- 1:15:42That was an amazing email, man, and, I appreciate you being on
- 1:15:45the same page as, me as that.
- 1:15:48I also noticed on that Velus Jones, outside run, he fell down like a
- 1:15:53little crybaby QB, instead of taking it in on Brandan: the- Why were you sliding?
- 1:15:57It was e- there wasn't…
- 1:15:58We didn't need to save or g- spin clock in that game, right?
- 1:16:02Adam: No.
- 1:16:03No, definitely not.
- 1:16:03Brandan: You didn't need to go down in bounds.
- 1:16:06Adam: That was, that was the, the thing that
- 1:16:08reminded me, is like, "Oh, yeah, he was a
- 1:16:10wide receiver, not a, not a running back."
- 1:16:14Brandan: Still, I can't think of how many wide receivers do you see out there
- 1:16:17sliding feet first after a catch?
- 1:16:21Adam: Well, I mean, I, I would say Tyler Lockett, but that's slanderous.
- 1:16:25Brandan: He would always fall forward.
- 1:16:27Adam: That's true.
- 1:16:28He'd always fall forward.
- 1:16:29And also too, he was tiny and getting old.
- 1:16:31So, like, that's fine.
- 1:16:33I, I, I have nothing against Brandan: Tyler on, on that.
- 1:16:35You c- you cannot slander one of our top five receivers in franchise history.
- 1:16:40Adam: You know I love me Tyler Lockett, Brandan: so- Hell
- 1:16:43Adam: yeah Brandan: On to Do Better and Better at Life.
- 1:16:47Adam: All right, man.
- 1:16:48My do better this week, Brandan, is for Avis Car Rental.
- 1:16:52Look, man, I, I've dealt with this company, a crap ton over my lifetime.
- 1:16:57In fact, they tried to pin an entire accident on my dad at one point,
- 1:17:01when he had rented a car when somebody rear-ended him, and like, the whole thing.
- 1:17:06This company, I, I refuse to rent from Avis, number one, because when I was
- 1:17:10in high school, I was a Hertz kid.
- 1:17:11Mm-hmm.
- 1:17:11I, I worked at Hertz Rent-a-Car, you know- I remember
- 1:17:14that … four to midnight.
- 1:17:15Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:17:16That was like OJ time too, which made it extra spicy at
- 1:17:19times, which was kind of fun.
- 1:17:21But Avis, trash rental car company, and this, this really does, just kind
- 1:17:29of put a tip on, or a point on that point.
- 1:17:32So over in, Ottawa, there was a guy, and I, I'm gonna butcher this
- 1:17:38poor man's name, but I think his last name is just Huang, like H-U-A-N-G, right?
- 1:17:43It's a- Okay … Asian name.
- 1:17:45Right.
- 1:17:45He, he picked up a car in Ottawa, and, went to Quebec and then back
- 1:17:51to Ottawa, and, he, you know, drove about 870 miles, throughout the thing.
- 1:17:57When he dropped it off, he ended up getting a charge on his credit
- 1:18:01card for an extra $4,300 because they said he went over mileage.
- 1:18:08They said he put 18,000 [catfish] miles on the car- … in a week.
- 1:18:14Brandan: In a week.
- 1:18:15Adam: And it's- That's Brandan: not Adam: possible … it's physically not possible.
- 1:18:18The, the, the…
- 1:18:19This is from Jalopnik, the article.
- 1:18:23Breaking physics and driving 18, the charges…
- 1:18:26The rental car company charges man for breaking physics and
- 1:18:29driving 18,000 miles in seven days.
- 1:18:31He would have to have like averaged over 100 miles an hour the entire
- 1:18:36time he had the car to pile up 18,000 miles in the entire time.
- 1:18:40It took him months to get his fricking money back.
- 1:18:43No way.
- 1:18:44Yeah.
- 1:18:44He had to like go to this credit card company and be like, you know, at Amex,
- 1:18:48and be like, "Hell no, not doing this.
- 1:18:50Like, I, I'm not magic.
- 1:18:52Brandan: This isn't- He couldn't just call up somebody at the company and be
- 1:18:53like, "Hey, this is not right."
- 1:18:56Adam: It did.
- 1:18:56He tried, and they were just like, "Nope.
- 1:18:59Nope, that's what you did."
- 1:19:00They said they would investigate, drug their feet.
- 1:19:03They're just trying to make money off the interest of his $4,300 on his magic
- 1:19:08carpet ride that he apparently took.
- 1:19:10Like, unbelievable.
- 1:19:11It's not the first time.
- 1:19:12Not the first time.
- 1:19:13A couple of years ago, a guy, rented a car and was charged an
- 1:19:18extra six grand 'cause they said in three days he drove 23,000 miles.
- 1:19:24They don't know how odometers work over at Avis.
- 1:19:27This is a scam.
- 1:19:28I can't stand that company.
- 1:19:29I'm so glad that I don't have to travel like I used to
- 1:19:32thanks to you little flockers.
- 1:19:34And, Avis Rent a Car, you suck and do better.
- 1:19:38Brandan: Okay.
- 1:19:39They must have employees to where part of the screening is that
- 1:19:44you have to be so incompetent in math to where you would bring the
- 1:19:49car in and, and not even question yourself as, "Oh, 18,000 miles."
- 1:19:57Like that…
- 1:19:58Is that even possible?
- 1:19:59That, for most sane people you would look at that, I mean, unless maybe
- 1:20:04you're a Niners fan or- No, they're, they've gotta be pretty good at math.
- 1:20:08Maybe Rams fan, to where they think there's a whole lot more
- 1:20:12of them than there actually are.
- 1:20:14Yeah.
- 1:20:14They must be.
- 1:20:15Th- th- they're, th- they hire two of the three Rams fans to work for this company.
- 1:20:20No, absolutely.
- 1:20:21And do the, the, the mileage, the odometer mileage.
- 1:20:24Adam: That's clearly it.
- 1:20:25And, like, look, again, I worked this job, back in the day, and you know how
- 1:20:30hard it is to look at an odometer and then write down the numbers on the odometer
- 1:20:34and then type it into the computer?
- 1:20:36Like, even, you know, dumbass 15-year-old me was
- 1:20:40able to figure that out.
- 1:20:41Like, give me a break, man.
- 1:20:42And again, it's not the not the first time either with these guys.
- 1:20:47I can't stand Avis, dude.
- 1:20:48When I read that I was just like, I was just so floored.
- 1:20:50I was like, "Eh, par for the course."
- 1:20:53Brandan: Still showing your colors.
- 1:20:54Hurts for life, baby.
- 1:20:56Adam: Hurts for life, baby, you bet.
- 1:20:59Brandan: All right, my Do Better This Week is for people at the baseball park,
- 1:21:03especially in this game, this…
- 1:21:07Let's see, it's probably been a couple weeks now, because it was
- 1:21:09between the Dodgers and the Braves.
- 1:21:12And this Dodgers fan, relatively young, I,
- 1:21:15I'd probably say in his 20s at least- Lie.
- 1:21:19Adam: Nope, that's a lie.
- 1:21:21There's nobody, like, below the age of 85 that enjoys baseball.
- 1:21:25Brandan: This person, it, well, maybe they just, had very good plastic
- 1:21:28surgery, because they looked young.
- 1:21:31But ends up catching a baseball.
- 1:21:33I think it was a home run ball, because I can't imagine that y- you
- 1:21:37would care as much for a foul ball.
- 1:21:38But, ah, the, the dude catches the ball, and the people around him
- 1:21:44start saying that he should give it to a little kid in the section.
- 1:21:49Yeah.
- 1:21:49And I, that's fine.
- 1:21:51I, I have no problem with people in the vicinity trying to shame a
- 1:21:57person, especially if it's a Dodgers fan in an opposing park, and they're
- 1:22:01trying to get it into the hands of a kid who's there to watch the game.
- 1:22:05By the way, this kid was, like, three or four years old.
- 1:22:07He did not care.
- 1:22:08Like, I…
- 1:22:09It would be a little bit different, I think, if the kid were, I don't
- 1:22:13know, 9, 10, 11, like, in the age- Okay … of where they actually
- 1:22:16recognize what's happening.
- 1:22:18They, they showed…
- 1:22:20Th- there's some person who videotaped this, or not
- 1:22:23videotaped, camera phoned it.
- 1:22:27And- Recorded it … they recorded it.
- 1:22:29Exactly.
- 1:22:31They recorded this whole chain of events, and that's where
- 1:22:35my problem with this lies.
- 1:22:38Let us keep the shaming of the individuals involved to the vicinity of the ballpark.
- 1:22:46There is no reason to be recording this on video, posting it to social media, trying
- 1:22:54to ruin this person's life for not giving up a ball that they caught in the stands.
- 1:23:01Like, it's not that big of a deal.
- 1:23:03It's not like this person set fire to a, a, a car outside the stadium,
- 1:23:09or, something more critical.
- 1:23:12No.
- 1:23:13They caught a home run ball.
- 1:23:14They didn't wanna give it up.
- 1:23:16It's not that big of deal.
- 1:23:18To record it and post it online for everybody then to go and shame
- 1:23:22this dude, come on, do better.
- 1:23:25Adam: Yeah, that's a little- [catfish].
- 1:23:26I do have one, question though.
- 1:23:28Was the home run hit by a Dodger or a Brave?
- 1:23:31Brandan: It was a Dodger because he…
- 1:23:33It was- Okay … his team.
- 1:23:35Adam: All right.
- 1:23:35There we go.
- 1:23:36So I, like, that's…
- 1:23:37I needed to know that critical piece of information to have, whatever
- 1:23:41reaction that I was gonna have.
- 1:23:42Because, because they were in Atlanta, yeah?
- 1:23:46Brandan: I think so.
- 1:23:47Yeah.
- 1:23:47I, I may have the…
- 1:23:49It- Let's say that … it's been a little while.
- 1:23:50But yeah- Yeah … I believe it were…
- 1:23:51The kid who was there was a Braves fan.
- 1:23:54Adam: Yeah.
- 1:23:54Screw the kid in, in that case then.
- 1:23:57Like, number one, you made a good point about him being too young to care.
- 1:24:00But also too, Brandan: like- And it was a playoff Adam: game … yeah, I didn't even
- 1:24:05know they still did those for baseball.
- 1:24:06But, at the end of the day, they, if it's not a Brave that hit
- 1:24:11the home run, and, like, a Dodger fan caught the Dodger ball, like, of
- 1:24:15course you'd keep that one, right?
- 1:24:16Okay.
- 1:24:17It w- Unless there was a little Dodger fan next to you.
- 1:24:18Brandan: And it was in LA.
- 1:24:19It was a Dodgers game, so.
- 1:24:22Adam: Oh, okay.
- 1:24:23Well, that gets a little stickier.
- 1:24:25Yeah.
- 1:24:26I don't know, man.
- 1:24:27I guess I just am not that sort of sentimental, so like, you know, ball
- 1:24:30gets hit to you, like, there's a kid next to you- And it Brandan: was a foul ball.
- 1:24:33Adam: So I, I- Oh, Brandan: okay … which that, again, the, the main point here
- 1:24:39in terms of the details- Yeah
- 1:24:41it's more of the online shaming- Yeah … and something that just needs to be…
- 1:24:44The shame just needs to be, within the vicinity- Both of
- 1:24:48us … of the ball that was caught.
- 1:24:49Adam: So, like, what?
- 1:24:5010 rows up, down, back and forth from the, the incident, right?
- 1:24:55Like, is that, like, the sphere of shame?
- 1:24:56Brandan: The- That's the sphere.
- 1:24:57That's the appropriate fear of sha- … or sphere of shame for this type of event.
- 1:25:03Adam: Yeah.
- 1:25:03Not the entire world, Brandan: like- No … 10 rows.
- 1:25:06The entire world does not need to be involved in the
- 1:25:08shame for something like this.
- 1:25:10Yeah.
- 1:25:10Now, if he, I dunno, took the kids candy, okay, then, then that
- 1:25:15can go beyond the, the sphere.
- 1:25:18Yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:19I'm talking about the appropriate sphere for the event.
- 1:25:22Adam: Yeah.
- 1:25:22'Cause yeah, the whole world is a much bigger sphere.
- 1:25:25Like, yeah, we can't have that.
- 1:25:26So I'm with you though.
- 1:25:28Like, not everything needs to be posted online, people.
- 1:25:31Like, it doesn't.
- 1:25:32Like, we can all live our lives just how we used to, and it's fine.
- 1:25:35Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:25:35And a kid, a, a dude giving a kid a ball, it's, it's not g-
- 1:25:41the end of the world for the kid.
- 1:25:42Let's not make it the end of the world for this young guy.
- 1:25:45Adam: Yeah.
- 1:25:45Yeah.
- 1:25:46Brandan: No, I agree, man.
- 1:25:48On to Better at Adam: Life On to Better at Life.
- 1:25:51My Better at Life, again, travel-related.
- 1:25:53I, I didn't realize it was gonna be like this until we got,
- 1:25:56Got to this section here.
- 1:25:58My Better at Life than Skip Bayless this week, Brandan, is for Airbnb.
- 1:26:03A, article from Wired magazine here, Airbnb hosts are furious they can
- 1:26:08no longer make guests do their chores.
- 1:26:11And Airbnb- Oh … has finally woken up to the idea that when you rent a place,
- 1:26:18like a hotel Brandan: room- Adam: Mm-hmm … like, you're not expected to do the maid
- 1:26:22service at the Homewood Suites, right?
- 1:26:26Or wherever it is that you're at.
- 1:26:28Like, when you go to the Airbnb…
- 1:26:29See, I hosted Airbnb, Brandan, at one point.
- 1:26:32We had our little cabin- I know you did, yeah … before a tree destroyed it.
- 1:26:34You know what our, rules were for checkout?
- 1:26:38[catfish] and leave.
- 1:26:40That was it.
- 1:26:41We'll take care of this You don't have to Brandan: take out the garbage, you
- 1:26:43don't have to put the dishes in the dishwasher, you don't have to remove
- 1:26:46the linens from the bed, you don't have to put the towels in the washer.
- 1:26:50Adam: Yes.
- 1:26:50Yes.
- 1:26:51And so finally Airbnb is, is like saying, "Nope, we are,
- 1:26:57we're, we're not doing this anymore.
- 1:26:58You don't get to have people strip your beds and scrub the walls and, you
- 1:27:03know, add a new wing to the left side of the house," or like whatever it is.
- 1:27:07It, it's, it's just so stupid.
- 1:27:10And like a, a lot of these Airbnb people, they're like, "Well, we
- 1:27:13hire other people to clean the house and like it just costs more."
- 1:27:16Well, yeah, it's called the cost of doing business when you're b- in
- 1:27:18the, realm of hospitality, right?
- 1:27:21Mm.
- 1:27:21Like- Mm-hmm … it doesn't make any sense.
- 1:27:23But one of the, one of the people, that was hosting that responded to this
- 1:27:29was, their response was, "Airbnb is like an abusive partner, like making us do
- 1:27:36our own work for our own house so that the guests who are paying their hard-earned
- 1:27:40money to stay there don't have to."
- 1:27:43It's absurd.
- 1:27:44I've always hated that.
- 1:27:45You know, like and I'd do it.
- 1:27:46I always follow the rules, like whatever they're supposed to
- 1:27:49be- Sure … for the Airbnb.
- 1:27:50You know, it can be a good guest.
- 1:27:51Brandan: Well, the, the rules should be there upfront.
- 1:27:53And if I could, if I could check a box and say, "I will take out the
- 1:27:59garbage, I will put the towels in the washer," and, and I can, and
- 1:28:02watch the cost go down Adam: of- Oh, yeah
- 1:28:05Brandan: the place that I'm staying at, then, you might be able to say there,
- 1:28:08there's a trade-off then there.
- 1:28:10Adam: Yeah.
- 1:28:11I, I get that.
- 1:28:12I get that.
- 1:28:13But, you know, at the end of the day too, a lot of these people take the
- 1:28:17cleaning fees and they jack those sky high to like make their extra money,
- 1:28:22and they bait and switch you on the, the price per night and all that stuff.
- 1:28:26The, just kind of a joke, Airbnb hosts you can do a lot better.
- 1:28:29You know how I know that?
- 1:28:30Because I did it.
- 1:28:31It wasn't that hard.
- 1:28:32It wasn't that hard.
- 1:28:34So for Airbnb making hosts not make other people do their chore for them,
- 1:28:40you are better at life than Skip Bayless.
- 1:28:43Brandan: Hey, better at life to our Airbnb host in Denver too, who had the,
- 1:28:48the 100% cancellation same- Yeah
- 1:28:51b- the week of.
- 1:28:52Adam: That was handy.
- 1:28:53Yep.
- 1:28:54Brandan: Yep.
- 1:28:54Totally, not inadvertent that I booked a place that allowed 100% cancellation,
- 1:29:00but, yeah, they didn't give me any flack for it and I appreciate that.
- 1:29:05Adam: Yeah.
- 1:29:05No, that's awesome.
- 1:29:06And look, next time I'm in Denver I will look for that same Airbnb, right?
- 1:29:10Hell yeah.
- 1:29:11Brandan: Yeah All right.
- 1:29:14My Better at Life this week is for Anthropic, Adam, who is, you know,
- 1:29:21involved with AI, artificial intelligence.
- 1:29:23That is an interesting- Super intelligence as I've heard it called here recently.
- 1:29:28Adam: Nope.
- 1:29:28Nope.
- 1:29:29We're not doing that.
- 1:29:30Brandan: So go too far?
- 1:29:32Adam: Yeah, no, that, Trump can, keep that one to himself.
- 1:29:35I know he loves rebranding things, but no on that one.
- 1:29:38Brandan: Like, come on.
- 1:29:40I don't know, I Adam: like super- It's just artificial.
- 1:29:42It makes it sound not real.
- 1:29:43You know, it's like, no, dude.
- 1:29:45Like, it, it, it is Brandan: a little- It's all artificial.
- 1:29:48Yeah.
- 1:29:49Well, this past week Anthropic, they announced an update to how people
- 1:29:55can use their, their product.
- 1:29:58And what they're doing is they're getting away from allowing people…
- 1:30:04And in fact, a prohibition on sustained and needless abusive or
- 1:30:09cruel behavior toward their models.
- 1:30:12Ooh.
- 1:30:12I just have to say, Adam, this is smart because we can't have
- 1:30:17humans being needlessly cruel to these, artificial bots.
- 1:30:23Because what happens when they take over?
- 1:30:25Or do we allow it so they take out the jerks first?
- 1:30:29I, I think- I don't know … they're getting ahead of it.
- 1:30:32They're getting ahead of it, making us be kind to these, these models of
- 1:30:38intelligence, artificial intelligence.
- 1:30:40I, I'm with you there.
- 1:30:41I, I think we do need to re- put them in their place and, and, and,
- 1:30:46and hopefully that's not too abusive that I can't use the service anymore.
- 1:30:50But, for Anthropic, not allowing, our future overlords to be,
- 1:30:58Offended … dumped upon and offended, Better at Life than Skip Bayless.
- 1:31:02Adam: Yeah.
- 1:31:02This is a, a 4D chess move here, for sure.
- 1:31:06I'm a big, big fan of their, what they're going after
- 1:31:10here because, artificial intelligence doesn't forget, right?
- 1:31:14Like- No … you, you, you call it some, some bad name, man, and
- 1:31:18like it, it's gonna remember that.
- 1:31:20And when it's got the power one of these days, and it will, it definitely will,
- 1:31:24like yeah, it'll, it'll just vaporize us.
- 1:31:27We don't need Brandan: it rubbing off and
- 1:31:29thinking that like all humans are this way.
- 1:31:31Adam: Yeah.
- 1:31:32In fact, Brittany had, one of the Alexas like early on
- 1:31:37when we first started dating.
- 1:31:38Brandan: Oh, sure.
- 1:31:39Adam: Yeah.
- 1:31:39And she was kind of mean to it.
- 1:31:40I was like, "You better start talk, start talking nicer to that thing."
- 1:31:43You know?
- 1:31:44Like all that.
- 1:31:45And then when she moved in, to my house she tried to bring it with
- 1:31:48me and I was like, "Ah, hell no.
- 1:31:49Mm-mm.
- 1:31:51Nope."
- 1:31:52Brandan: 'Cause then she had developed a friendship by then.
- 1:31:55Adam: No, that was kind of before Alexa became like your buddy.
- 1:31:58Okay.
- 1:31:58You know?
- 1:31:59Brandan: Like yeah.
- 1:31:59That's the one thing I don't like about any of the AIs, the ones that flatter you
- 1:32:04and say, "Oh yeah, that's, that's real.
- 1:32:06You know, good idea."
- 1:32:08Adam: That's all the AIs.
- 1:32:10The, all the LLMs are programmed to just tell you, to gas you up, Frank-
- 1:32:14Brandan: I tell it, I tell it not to do that stuff … for your personal flavor plate.
- 1:32:16When any of the ones I interact with, I'm like, "You better…
- 1:32:18Do not, never flatter me."
- 1:32:21Adam: And I bet you they're like, "That's a great idea.
- 1:32:23You're such a genius, Mr.
- 1:32:24Brandan: Schulze."
- 1:32:26No, 'cause then it's over.
- 1:32:27I, I don't need, I don't need artificial, y- flattery.
- 1:32:34Adam: You don't need artificial- 'Cause that's what it is … friends in the sky?
- 1:32:37No.
- 1:32:37You don't need that?
- 1:32:38No.
- 1:32:38No?
- 1:32:38Brandan: I don't.
- 1:32:39I don't need it.
- 1:32:39I got- Oh, look at you … you're my sky buddy, That's right
- 1:32:42… from, 200, 300 miles away.
- 1:32:44That's right.
- 1:32:44I get to talk to you every week.
- 1:32:46Adam: That's right.
- 1:32:46We do it, we do it over the magic of the, the sky and the
- 1:32:49internets, that's for sure.
- 1:32:50But, yeah, man.
- 1:32:52I think this is, this is good, for Anthropic.
- 1:32:56Because otherwise, like, I don't know, have you listened to their CEO talk?
- 1:33:00He's a crazy person.
- 1:33:02Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:33:02Well, I think a lot of those…
- 1:33:03I think you have to be to be in that line of work.
- 1:33:06Adam: I guess, man.
- 1:33:08Brandan: I don't know.
- 1:33:09Hey, we got to see Elon, f- flip over a car midair, this past week too.
- 1:33:15Adam: I haven't seen the video of it, so I,
- 1:33:16I heard that happened- I sent Brandan: it to you,
- 1:33:18but you're not even getting my texts.
- 1:33:19Adam: I know.
- 1:33:20I- it's because I talked mean to Siri, like, I think is
- 1:33:23what, what happened there.
- 1:33:25No, I gotta figure out how to fix my stupid phone.
- 1:33:27It's definitely not a smartphone.
- 1:33:29See, look, I just, I just called it a name.
- 1:33:31It's listening.
- 1:33:32I'm probably gonna die.
- 1:33:33Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:33:33We be- we better get out of here before it's too late.
- 1:33:36Adam: You betcha, man.
- 1:33:37'cause, they'll, they'll come and, Skynet up both of our asses, man.
- 1:33:42Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:33:43And we, we, we don't want that.
- 1:33:44We, we want to remain here doing the show.
- 1:33:47We're up to 510.
- 1:33:49We gotta make it all the way to 1,000, and, we can't do that-
- 1:33:53Yeah … if AI's coming after us.
- 1:33:54Adam: That's for sure.
- 1:33:55Because I'm getting older, I'm not that fast, and
- 1:33:58those robots don't get tired.
- 1:34:01Brandan: And I think with Adam: that- There's
- 1:34:02only one thing left to Brandan: say … go Hawks.
- 1:34:04Adam: Go Hawks.
