- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello there, Welcome to the ned Palty.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hi, this is Nick an Ostasy, you lead editor and
- 0:08Speaker 2: writer on mal Shadow Lord, and you're listening to Aggressive Negotiations.
- 0:19Speaker 3: You are here with Aggressive Negotiations, the Star Wars podcast
- 0:22Speaker 3: on the Nerd Party Network that examines the Star Wars
- 0:25Speaker 3: galaxy from every conceivable angle, facet and pathway that you
- 0:29Speaker 3: could imagine. I am one of your hosts, Jedi Master
- 0:31Speaker 3: John Mills, and here to discuss in our season three
- 0:35Speaker 3: rewatch of the Mandalorian in our countdown to the Mandalorian
- 0:39Speaker 3: and grogu is Jedi Master Matthew Rushing. Matt, are you
- 0:43Speaker 3: ready to discuss chapter twenty The Foundling, directed by Carl Weathers.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Well, I really am.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I just hope that we don't end up with any
- 0:53Speaker 1: unintended foundlings, because I really don't have the yard space
- 0:58Speaker 1: for that.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Well, you know, a lot of foundlings can be tended
- 1:03Speaker 3: properly with some paintballs and some nice, nice giant crocodile
- 1:09Speaker 3: fish and maybe just maybe a slightly terror dectyl looking
- 1:13Speaker 3: thingy every now and then. You know, those are the basics.
- 1:16Speaker 3: But one of the basics that we ask of everybody
- 1:18Speaker 3: is to pay us the only way that we ask,
- 1:21Speaker 3: which is to give us star ratings and reviews at
- 1:25Speaker 3: Apple Podcasts. It helps us, it helps the show, it
- 1:27Speaker 3: helps people find the show. We really appreciate it very
- 1:30Speaker 3: much from the depths of our hearts. You can of
- 1:34Speaker 3: course find us on the social media's at x on
- 1:39Speaker 3: x at the Jedi Masters, you can find the network
- 1:42Speaker 3: at Join nerd Party, and you can find the Nerd
- 1:44Speaker 3: Party on Facebook and Instagram. So thank you everybody for
- 1:48Speaker 3: participating and listening. And frankly, I'm really curious, really ready
- 1:53Speaker 3: to get right into this episode because last week we
- 1:56Speaker 3: had our issues with the Convert. There's a couple narrative
- 2:00Speaker 3: challenges that we had, So I gotta wonder when you
- 2:04Speaker 3: were coming back into this even with this rewatch, was
- 2:07Speaker 3: there any trepidation? Was there any like, uh, this better
- 2:10Speaker 3: get better? Like were you ready to bail on anything
- 2:14Speaker 3: where you had like how deeply had the Convert sort
- 2:17Speaker 3: of shaken your faith in the show as it were?
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean coming back into this one in the
- 2:25Speaker 1: rewatch and knowing what the episode was, you know where
- 2:29Speaker 1: we were going to touch on the history of Grogu,
- 2:34Speaker 1: but at the same time, you know we were actually
- 2:36Speaker 1: going to continue diving into the Mandalorian in the sense
- 2:39Speaker 1: of their culture, and you know, we're going to get
- 2:43Speaker 1: a little bit of family, We're going to get a
- 2:45Speaker 1: little bit of what it's like for them to train together,
- 2:48Speaker 1: and the different levels you know, they they have foundling
- 2:51Speaker 1: and then apprentice and and Z. I thought that was
- 2:57Speaker 1: really cool, you know, And so I I wasn't feeling
- 3:00Speaker 1: trepidations coming into this. I was actually more interested in
- 3:04Speaker 1: the rewatch and just seeing kind of how it all
- 3:08Speaker 1: flowed together, you know. And part of that is because
- 3:11Speaker 1: and I don't know, maybe that's trepidation, but we've talked
- 3:15Speaker 1: a lot about this season already that the editing story
- 3:19Speaker 1: structure seems to be often some episodes, and so I
- 3:24Speaker 1: was trying to remember, you know, how this all flowed
- 3:27Speaker 1: as an episode and would it still work, And you know, thankfully,
- 3:31Speaker 1: for me, I think it does. It's it. You know,
- 3:35Speaker 1: we talked a lot about the idea of a whiplash
- 3:38Speaker 1: in the previous episode, and I felt like there was
- 3:41Speaker 1: whiplash again, but in a good way, just because this
- 3:45Speaker 1: episode is so diametrically opposed to the type of issues
- 3:48Speaker 1: that we were getting in the previous episode, and this
- 3:52Speaker 1: seemed to be back to form well at the same time,
- 3:57Speaker 1: you know, digging into some mysteries that we as fans
- 4:01Speaker 1: have had since this show began. So did you feel
- 4:04Speaker 1: the same or was there anything that kind of jumped
- 4:09Speaker 1: out to you in this rewatch where you were like, oh,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I don't I don't remember it quite that way, or
- 4:15Speaker 1: doesn't hold up, or no, this is this is just
- 4:18Speaker 1: as good as I thought it was the first time,
- 4:20Speaker 1: or it's better.
- 4:21Speaker 3: The episode flows better than I remembered it, because I
- 4:25Speaker 3: think that I might have been thrown so off by
- 4:29Speaker 3: the convert the first time around that on the rewatch,
- 4:33Speaker 3: it's one of those things where it's like, wait, did
- 4:35Speaker 3: like I remember liking this episode, but were there still
- 4:39Speaker 3: some structural problems with it? Turns out there weren't. And
- 4:44Speaker 3: I want to share a story because I'm, you know,
- 4:46Speaker 3: doing the Mandalorian rewatch with my youngest who's never seen
- 4:49Speaker 3: it before, and you know, the Mandalorian Grogu's coming out,
- 4:53Speaker 3: and so making a point to go through and make
- 4:56Speaker 3: sure that we see everything that she might need to
- 4:58Speaker 3: see coming in. I know they're going to make it
- 5:00Speaker 3: accessible for non fans too, but you know, I figure
- 5:04Speaker 3: she'll get the optimal experience that way. And when Grogu
- 5:09Speaker 3: is with the Armorer and we start getting the flashes
- 5:13Speaker 3: of his past, his traumatic childhood, the same way that
- 5:18Speaker 3: we got when Luke I'll just say mind melded with
- 5:21Speaker 3: him in Book of Boba Fet. But also when you know,
- 5:27Speaker 3: we encountered the Mandalorian in season one, and every time
- 5:29Speaker 3: the Armorer worked, we had flashes of his childhood and everything,
- 5:32Speaker 3: So there's a nice mirroring there. My youngest starts sobbing
- 5:40Speaker 3: during that sequence because she didn't cry as hard as
- 5:47Speaker 3: she did when she saw what happened to him in
- 5:51Speaker 3: the Book of Boba Fet flashback. But she started sobbing
- 5:55Speaker 3: again because she felt so bad for everything Grogu had
- 6:01Speaker 3: gone through. It made her so sad that somebody had
- 6:06Speaker 3: gone through something like that, And it was a really
- 6:10Speaker 3: grounding moment, specifically because I think we as fans. I
- 6:15Speaker 3: remember even watching the episode and I got so caught
- 6:18Speaker 3: up in Oh that's all I'm at best. Oh it's
- 6:20Speaker 3: Order sixty six again. Oh look at all of that stuff.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Oh wait, it's the Naboo. There are all these little
- 6:24Speaker 3: story tidbits, and I'm so caught up in as an
- 6:27Speaker 3: adult fan means nothing to a kid, and it's it
- 6:32Speaker 3: was another one of those moments to remind yourself that
- 6:38Speaker 3: this stuff is supposed to be connecting just on a
- 6:41Speaker 3: visceral emotional level, and so I gotta get like this
- 6:45Speaker 3: episode was of getting probably the highest marks of the
- 6:47Speaker 3: season so far, as high as any marks I've given
- 6:50Speaker 3: it because I saw demonstrated right there with me that
- 6:54Speaker 3: it did what it set out to do, which was
- 6:56Speaker 3: to make Grogu incredibly sympathetic and connect with the audience,
- 7:02Speaker 3: especially the key demographic you want, which is either the
- 7:06Speaker 3: kid or the kid inside. So that definitely was a
- 7:10Speaker 3: completely different experience watching it this time around.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that is such a hallmark of you know,
- 7:17Speaker 1: being able to do this rewatch together and the fact
- 7:20Speaker 1: that you're you know, doing it with the youngest padawan,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and you know, that does change the way in which
- 7:25Speaker 1: you view Star Wars right when you get to watch
- 7:29Speaker 1: it through other people's eyes, you know, I mean, I
- 7:32Speaker 1: don't have that same experience, but just even you know,
- 7:34Speaker 1: showing people Star Wars who really don't know a ton
- 7:37Speaker 1: about it and then just watching them experience it, you know,
- 7:40Speaker 1: for the first time, is as close as you know
- 7:43Speaker 1: I'll ever get to being able to do that. And
- 7:45Speaker 1: it's so fun. And I love that you brought up
- 7:48Speaker 1: the idea of Grogu as a character, because you know,
- 7:53Speaker 1: I've heard this before from other people, and I think
- 7:56Speaker 1: that this episode, you know, just kind of dismantles that
- 8:01Speaker 1: is that, you know, Grubgu is basically a mcguffin or
- 8:06Speaker 1: prop and I feel like this episode does a great
- 8:10Speaker 1: job of beginning to make him a fully rounded character
- 8:13Speaker 1: where it's like, no, he's not just going to be
- 8:15Speaker 1: the cute baby anymore. We're going to begin to train
- 8:19Speaker 1: him and have him begin to mature. And I liked
- 8:23Speaker 1: that this episode finally gave us that, you know, where
- 8:28Speaker 1: we're we're going to treat him as a character who
- 8:31Speaker 1: has an arc that's more than just I need him
- 8:34Speaker 1: to do the next cute thing.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Yes, And even tying into that is with Minds of
- 8:42Speaker 3: Mandalor when he goes and he gets bo Katan.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:45Speaker 3: So this season has already had two episodes now where
- 8:48Speaker 3: Grogu gets some serious development, and never mind the beginning
- 8:51Speaker 3: of this episode, we see him entered into Mandalorian fight
- 8:56Speaker 3: training with another kid, and he like exhibits that same
- 9:01Speaker 3: sort of intuitive battle prowess, if you will, of just oh,
- 9:06Speaker 3: you're fighting by rules, but I don't have rules, which
- 9:09Speaker 3: is cute, but it's still like you're saying, it advances
- 9:14Speaker 3: the character. My question for you is, we've had Bo
- 9:17Speaker 3: Katan going on her own journey in this series. In
- 9:21Speaker 3: this season, did you get the same sense of forward
- 9:25Speaker 3: motion or development with her? Was that satisfying for you
- 9:29Speaker 3: because at this point in the season or four episodes in,
- 9:32Speaker 3: we're halfway in and The Mandalorian should have an ass
- 9:36Speaker 3: at the end of it, because it's this season has
- 9:38Speaker 3: about been about the Mandalorians, z Bo Catan. Are you
- 9:44Speaker 3: liking what's happening with her character through this.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny that you, you know, asked this question,
- 9:53Speaker 1: because that was the thing that I was thinking of.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Next is the way in which you know, Bo begins
- 9:58Speaker 1: to have more of a part of this series. And
- 10:01Speaker 1: I agree with you, you know, in many ways. You know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: the series obviously is called The Mandalorian, and I like
- 10:10Speaker 1: the way you put it. You know, now we're kind
- 10:12Speaker 1: of in this mode where it's the Mandalorians, and I
- 10:18Speaker 1: think that us being able to as fans go through
- 10:24Speaker 1: this adventure through Bow's eyes is incredibly you know, fulfilling
- 10:31Speaker 1: as a fan to be able to see her kind
- 10:34Speaker 1: of come face to face with the children of the Watch,
- 10:37Speaker 1: you know, and and honestly be kind of slowly kind
- 10:41Speaker 1: of pulled in back into what it means to be
- 10:45Speaker 1: a Mandalorian on a spiritual front and not just like
- 10:48Speaker 1: a you know, physical front or just as as a
- 10:52Speaker 1: cultural front. That's the thing I'm really liking about the season,
- 10:57Speaker 1: the way we're building her is that character and where
- 11:00Speaker 1: she's beginning to believe again. You know, you know, you
- 11:07Speaker 1: might have called her basically a Mandalorian atheist previous to
- 11:12Speaker 1: this because of her experiences and now you know, this
- 11:17Speaker 1: episode's called The Foundling, but in many ways to this episode,
- 11:20Speaker 1: and I know we've already had an episode called this,
- 11:22Speaker 1: but this could have been called you know, The Believer,
- 11:26Speaker 1: or this episode could have been called The Converts, you know,
- 11:30Speaker 1: because there's a way in which you're seeing Bocaton be
- 11:35Speaker 1: converted back to what it means to be a Mandalorian
- 11:40Speaker 1: on a spiritual plane beyond you know, everything else that
- 11:45Speaker 1: she's experienced. And I think it's great.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I love it.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I did it work for you. Still, is it something
- 11:51Speaker 1: where you're frustrated that she's getting to have a little
- 11:55Speaker 1: bit more of an arc here than say somebody like Dindjarrin.
- 11:59Speaker 3: No, well, it's not frustrating. I think that the actually
- 12:02Speaker 3: the title of the episode works really well because she's
- 12:05Speaker 3: the Foundling, which I thought is really clever because you know, we, oh,
- 12:10Speaker 3: the foundling, we presume must be a child, but the
- 12:14Speaker 3: term could easily apply to her. She's been you know,
- 12:21Speaker 3: the idea that you've found the lost and brought them in,
- 12:24Speaker 3: and I think that works very well. I think what's
- 12:27Speaker 3: challenging about it, and this is something where the season
- 12:30Speaker 3: as a whole again it's trying to expand outward and
- 12:36Speaker 3: world build so much with what's going on with the Empire,
- 12:41Speaker 3: with what's going on with the Republic, with what's going
- 12:45Speaker 3: on with Bocatan, as well as Grogu. Yes, there are
- 12:50Speaker 3: layers of complexity. They're not just doing the same thing.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Because people started bashing on the Mandalorian after the second
- 12:57Speaker 3: season saying, oh, well, it's just a video game. He
- 12:59Speaker 3: just goes on a quest every episode, which is whatever.
- 13:03Speaker 3: I mean, it's a serial series. It's you know, I
- 13:06Speaker 3: think it's a silly complaint, but I think that there
- 13:09Speaker 3: is an effort here to expand the story, and what
- 13:15Speaker 3: I think happens is actually bo Catan's arc suffers because
- 13:22Speaker 3: it's only a piece of this, and I think the
- 13:25Speaker 3: season would have been better served to stay focused on this,
- 13:30Speaker 3: this her story, and and Din bringing her in and
- 13:36Speaker 3: showing the growth of will get you know, to the
- 13:40Speaker 3: armorer with her and everything where we're going this season.
- 13:44Speaker 3: And I'm sorry to jump the gun like that, but
- 13:45Speaker 3: I mean, you know, it's a rewatch. It can't help it.
- 13:50Speaker 3: It's it's very interesting because it feels so much truer
- 13:54Speaker 3: to the core of what attracted us to the show
- 13:56Speaker 3: in the first place, which is very simple, focused storytelling,
- 14:01Speaker 3: not trying to overcomplicate itself. And I think that we're
- 14:06Speaker 3: four episodes in and it's something where even just that
- 14:11Speaker 3: third episode causes such a rhythmic hiccup that here I'm
- 14:18Speaker 3: in this episode, I'm saying, oh, yeah, this is why
- 14:20Speaker 3: I came to the show, this is why I'm here,
- 14:24Speaker 3: and watching it in quicker succession and having seen it
- 14:27Speaker 3: before it it alleviates some of it, but it really
- 14:32Speaker 3: makes a third episode stand out even more.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that, you know, you mentioning the fact
- 14:38Speaker 1: that bo in some ways as the foundling. What I
- 14:40Speaker 1: love about this is that there's a real give and
- 14:44Speaker 1: take with her as a character, and you know, her
- 14:48Speaker 1: being with this covert, which is there are a lot
- 14:51Speaker 1: of things actually that she knows that they don't right
- 14:55Speaker 1: because you know, she grew up on Mandelor there's you know,
- 14:59Speaker 1: even when they're talking about climbing to you know, this
- 15:03Speaker 1: Beast's layer and they're like it's too high, and she's like,
- 15:07Speaker 1: well that no. I mean, she's basically saying, you know,
- 15:10Speaker 1: I used to shoot womp rats that size one of
- 15:12Speaker 1: my T fourteen. You know, that's that's the exact same
- 15:17Speaker 1: discussion that she's having with them, Like, no, that's that's
- 15:20Speaker 1: not too hard. That's that's child's play, basically, is what
- 15:23Speaker 1: she's saying. And so what I love is that there
- 15:26Speaker 1: is this real copasetic learning that's happening between her and
- 15:33Speaker 1: the rest of these Mandalorians because she actually does have
- 15:36Speaker 1: a lot to teach them about what it means to
- 15:38Speaker 1: be a Mandalorian because she's literally one of the very
- 15:42Speaker 1: few Mandalorians left who lived on Mandalor grew up there,
- 15:46Speaker 1: was trained there, and I really appreciate that, and so
- 15:52Speaker 1: I think it's it's actually a strength of the show
- 15:56Speaker 1: because what they're doing is they're bringing these two disparate
- 16:02Speaker 1: factions back together. I mean, that's the other part of
- 16:05Speaker 1: this whole series. In season right, we've shown these two
- 16:09Speaker 1: different types of Mandalorians, and this show is kind of
- 16:13Speaker 1: working to allow them to live in harmony together again.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And that's I think really really cool because you know,
- 16:24Speaker 1: you have the idea of what they were in the
- 16:26Speaker 1: Clone Wars, and even there we saw differentiation between the
- 16:33Speaker 1: two factions of death Watch and those on Mandalor, and
- 16:37Speaker 1: here we're taking all of that stuff and we're working
- 16:41Speaker 1: to kind of find a new balance in a new
- 16:45Speaker 1: way of life for this people who have been through
- 16:49Speaker 1: a great deal. And I like the way in which
- 16:52Speaker 1: they're doing it personally. I think it's actually really well done.
- 16:56Speaker 1: So I also got to say, I really appreciate to
- 17:04Speaker 1: the the idea that you know, Mandalorians when together, they
- 17:07Speaker 1: actually go off to eat, you know, so they could
- 17:10Speaker 1: take off their helmet and actually eat.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Uh.
- 17:13Speaker 1: And I liked the admission that yes, there, you can't
- 17:17Speaker 1: wear this helmet all the time, like there have to
- 17:20Speaker 1: be times where the helmet comes off, and I guess
- 17:23Speaker 1: that's also probably helpful when you want to make another foundling.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Uh.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And so you know, it's but I just again, there
- 17:31Speaker 1: are these little moments that they're utilizing, and they're helping
- 17:36Speaker 1: us to have a better understanding of what it means,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you know, to be a Mandalorian and the rules, especially
- 17:43Speaker 1: of the children of the Watch. And so I really
- 17:45Speaker 1: like that. Uh.
- 17:47Speaker 3: You know, I'm glad you said that, because I think
- 17:49Speaker 3: it's a good point, you know, just a couple of
- 17:52Speaker 3: points to close out on. Is it's it's a it
- 17:55Speaker 3: shows a real inversion of what we would accept as normal,
- 18:00Speaker 3: which is that we would go off and do our jobs.
- 18:03Speaker 3: We would go off and do something, we'd work in
- 18:05Speaker 3: the fields, we would go to the office, whatever you
- 18:07Speaker 3: want to say. But the idea is the family is
- 18:11Speaker 3: always supposed to come together for the meal, and they
- 18:15Speaker 3: have inverted that. They're together twenty four to seven except
- 18:19Speaker 3: when they eat. And it's it's interesting because when you
- 18:23Speaker 3: really break it apart, breaking bread together is the very
- 18:27Speaker 3: idea of It's a phrase that means making peace with somebody,
- 18:32Speaker 3: and I think that's an interesting thing to sort of
- 18:35Speaker 3: like peel a part of the idea of isolation and
- 18:40Speaker 3: why they're so such, you know, they're so intractable and
- 18:44Speaker 3: bad at making peace because they don't break bread together.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Because that's something that you know, I think that's worth
- 18:53Speaker 3: you know, thinking about, at least in those terms. But
- 18:57Speaker 3: as a final question, I got to ask you, how
- 19:01Speaker 3: do you feel they did?
- 19:02Speaker 1: You know?
- 19:02Speaker 3: I mean, Carl Weathers is our director on this episode
- 19:07Speaker 3: the volume. Was this a one success for you? Were
- 19:12Speaker 3: there effects or background shots that didn't work? Or were
- 19:17Speaker 3: you totally immersed in what was happening.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I kept waiting for a rocket ship to land, uh
- 19:25Speaker 1: and uh, to to you know, be caught in the
- 19:28Speaker 1: middle of the lake and three astronauts to come out,
- 19:32Speaker 1: uh and uh, then beyond the the very edge of
- 19:37Speaker 1: the planet of the Apes. No, excuse me, this very
- 19:41Speaker 1: I'm sure that this is filmed in the exact same
- 19:43Speaker 1: places you know what they're they're pulling for visually. But
- 19:50Speaker 1: I think that the volume is mostly successful, I mean
- 19:55Speaker 1: here and there. I think that there are some shots
- 19:58Speaker 1: that kind of stand out a little bit as like, oh,
- 20:00Speaker 1: that wasn't quite as good, and maybe maybe it's just
- 20:04Speaker 1: because I've been watching the show, you know, every week
- 20:07Speaker 1: here to get ready, and you know, you just get
- 20:10Speaker 1: more used to the look and the feel of it.
- 20:13Speaker 1: But there weren't too many shots that just felt really
- 20:20Speaker 1: jarring in this in that sense, and so, you know,
- 20:24Speaker 1: three season in, I think that they're figuring it out.
- 20:29Speaker 1: But also there is something about whether it's directing here
- 20:32Speaker 1: that I think might just.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Work.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Like he knows how. He really does a great job
- 20:40Speaker 1: of shooting the action, you know, especially when they're doing
- 20:42Speaker 1: the aerial battles, you know, with this giant pterodactyl thingy.
- 20:47Speaker 1: All of that looked really good if you ask me.
- 20:50Speaker 1: And so I'm I'm relatively impressed with the way in
- 20:55Speaker 1: which this episode is pulled off, because what they're doing,
- 20:59Speaker 1: when you think about what they're actually trying to do
- 21:01Speaker 1: here in live action on television, it's kind of insane.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I agree. I think that this is a really successful
- 21:10Speaker 3: episode for those effects. I think that we've become so
- 21:15Speaker 3: spoiled over time that we forget the absolutely mind blowing
- 21:22Speaker 3: nature of fighting the giant pterodactyl. And it looks real enough, yeah, agreed,
- 21:31Speaker 3: And it doesn't look like a ray Harryhausen thing, Yeah,
- 21:35Speaker 3: it actually works. And then I'll say again the youngest
- 21:39Speaker 3: and this is something I'll cop to it because I
- 21:42Speaker 3: feel the same way. I felt so bad for those
- 21:45Speaker 3: little baby terodactyl thingies that they bring with them.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I felt so no.
- 21:50Speaker 3: But the thing is, I felt so bad for them
- 21:52Speaker 3: because you know, it's sort of like actually with you know,
- 21:54Speaker 3: when the big gator attacks Ragnar's son or whoever it
- 22:00Speaker 3: was getting, you know, baptized in the first episode, you know,
- 22:05Speaker 3: going all the way back to that, it's like, oh, yeah,
- 22:07Speaker 3: I mean it sucks, but I still kind of feel
- 22:09Speaker 3: bad for the animal because it's just doing its thing.
- 22:13Speaker 3: The animal isn't evil. The animal's just doing what it does.
- 22:17Speaker 3: And it's like, you know, I don't want the kid
- 22:19Speaker 3: to get eaten. I don't want any of them to
- 22:20Speaker 3: get eaten. But at the same time, it's like you
- 22:23Speaker 3: feel bad at the end of it because you're like, oh,
- 22:25Speaker 3: right now you've orphaned these three creatures. Oh that's that's
- 22:30Speaker 3: kind of rough, you know. So that is honestly my
- 22:36Speaker 3: way of saying that the effects were really effective because
- 22:39Speaker 3: I felt empathy for these creatures that will never exist
- 22:44Speaker 3: in any fashion. Whatsoever. I mean, that's tremendous character animation
- 22:48Speaker 3: when you think about it, and you know, I think
- 22:51Speaker 3: that's to be commended. But what I really think should
- 22:54Speaker 3: be commended is how many places you can be found online?
- 22:57Speaker 3: So why didn't you tell everybody where they can contact?
- 23:00Speaker 3: Do you track you down and listen to you?
- 23:02Speaker 2: You don't want to know my rating?
- 23:04Speaker 1: John? For the episode?
- 23:06Speaker 3: Oh no, I don't, No, not at all.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I don't know.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Sorry, hold on, yeah, let me let me give blah
- 23:13Speaker 3: blah blah blah blah. Really really really commendable. Ah, it's
- 23:19Speaker 3: really commendable. But speaking of commendable, you know, how would
- 23:24Speaker 3: you commend this episode? You know, we had a rough
- 23:27Speaker 3: episode last time. Where are we on the five star scale?
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:32Speaker 1: I think this deserves to be a four star. I
- 23:36Speaker 1: think it's a it's a good episode. I think they
- 23:39Speaker 1: did a great job and I'm really, you know, thankful
- 23:42Speaker 1: for the work that they put into this episode. I think,
- 23:46Speaker 1: especially coming off that previous episode, this is just this
- 23:50Speaker 1: is what I want from the Mandalorian. So yeah, solid
- 23:53Speaker 1: four stars?
- 23:54Speaker 2: What about you?
- 23:54Speaker 3: John, I'm actually going to give it a solid five
- 23:57Speaker 3: because of what I was talking about where I saw
- 24:01Speaker 3: my daughter react very strongly to the gro Goo bit.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I love the symmetry with seeing his flashback the same
- 24:10Speaker 3: way we saw Mando's flashback. I love what they're doing
- 24:14Speaker 3: with bo Katan. I love the examination of their culture
- 24:18Speaker 3: in the Children of the watch all of that stuff.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I think it's highly successful. Is it an incredibly deep episode? No?
- 24:25Speaker 3: But the thing is, for me, a five star doesn't
- 24:27Speaker 3: mean that this is the greatest hour of television ever created.
- 24:30Speaker 3: It just means Carl Weather's rest his soul was really
- 24:36Speaker 3: good as a director for this series. Yeah, and I
- 24:39Speaker 3: think that this is a straight up standout episode. Like
- 24:41Speaker 3: if you were to ask me pick your favorite episodes
- 24:44Speaker 3: from season three, this is in the discussion, if not
- 24:47Speaker 3: the choice, like this in Minds of Bandalor and again
- 24:51Speaker 3: in the Rewatch. Yeah, I beat up on the third episode,
- 24:54Speaker 3: but honestly, sort of the quality that we've gotten halfway
- 24:58Speaker 3: through the season, it's not this season at this point
- 25:05Speaker 3: deserves a better rep Whether that changes when we proceed
- 25:09Speaker 3: through the season, and I don't know, but at the
- 25:11Speaker 3: halfway point fifty yard line, I think we're trucking for
- 25:15Speaker 3: a touchdown again. So we'll just see how those back
- 25:18Speaker 3: four work out as it.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Were absolutely that well, you know, John, With that in mind,
- 25:25Speaker 1: if people want to discuss this episode or see what
- 25:28Speaker 1: else is happening there at Kesselvania, maybe maybe they need
- 25:32Speaker 1: to know the exchange rate for kessel coin or where
- 25:34Speaker 1: can people find them.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, the exchange rate for kestle coin is
- 25:38Speaker 3: you give me ten bitcoin and I will give you
- 25:41Speaker 3: fifty billion kessel coins because kessel coins don't exist. So
- 25:47Speaker 3: I'll give you as many as that you want, and
- 25:49Speaker 3: I'll you know, I'll even sign you. You know what,
- 25:51Speaker 3: you know what we need to bring back, Matt. We
- 25:53Speaker 3: need to bring back NFTs.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Remember they were so hot.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yeah, they were so hot. It's the best. So you
- 26:01Speaker 3: know what, forget the castle coin exchange. Give me your bitcoin.
- 26:04Speaker 3: I'll give you an NFD. How about that. There you go.
- 26:06Speaker 3: I'll just write something on a piece of paper. But
- 26:08Speaker 3: you can also reach me online as Cassele Junkie social
- 26:12Speaker 3: network of choice. You can honestly find me on letterbox
- 26:15Speaker 3: and good Reads. That's where I have the most fun online.
- 26:18Speaker 3: And you can find me here on the network. Co
- 26:20Speaker 3: hosting a show called house Lights with Darren Moser and
- 26:23Speaker 3: Tristan Riddell, where we look at the work of filmmakers,
- 26:25Speaker 3: so their entire career, through decades, through character types, all
- 26:29Speaker 3: of those sorts of things. And you can find me
- 26:31Speaker 3: occasionally with a guest appearance over on the six oh
- 26:34Speaker 3: two Club on the TFM network, which I know is
- 26:36Speaker 3: one of the places where people can find you online.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Matt, absolutely true. I love being over there. John's a
- 26:42Speaker 1: frequent guest, so that's always a plus. You could find
- 26:45Speaker 1: me all over social media and then a name Matt
- 26:48Speaker 1: Rushing show too. Of course here on the network, I've
- 26:51Speaker 1: got outposts talking about every single chapter of the Harry
- 26:55Speaker 1: Potter series, one chapter at a time. And then if
- 26:58Speaker 1: you like what I have to say in the six
- 27:01Speaker 1: h two Club, is your fancy, well, there's a lot
- 27:03Speaker 1: of great star trek talk over there on the TFM
- 27:06Speaker 1: Network with my good friend Chris Jones, so you can
- 27:08Speaker 1: check all those shows out. But you know what, John,
- 27:11Speaker 1: I think the Covert is calling for dinner and they've
- 27:16Speaker 1: brought a nice case of Coarellian whiskey, So I think
- 27:20Speaker 1: it's time to close these negotiations.
- 27:23Speaker 3: If you think walking drunk is tough without a helmet
- 27:26Speaker 3: on wait, until you see me with a helmet on
- 27:28Speaker 3: after a bottle of Karelian whiskey. Master rushing negotiations are closed.
