- 0:00A Bonjour AB avenue I learned French with Alexa for another
- 0:04podcast. Now this series is quite simple.
- 0:08You're going to hear a small text based on a fun fact about
- 0:13me Alexa Polidoro. Now, if you learned it here just
- 0:18because the algorithm took it here, you may not know who I am,
- 0:22but I'm a French teacher, Alexa Polidoro from Learn French with
- 0:26Alexa. Now stick with us, OK, because
- 0:29you're going to do an exercise, a listening exercise.
- 0:34I'm going to run you through some grammar as well as we go
- 0:37along. Let's listen to another fun fact
- 0:39about me. Alexa Politoho.
- 0:42I'm going to ask you a question after the first reading of this
- 0:45text and maybe a second question if we've got time.
- 0:49Listen very carefully. Equity attentive MO Noel
- 0:55Gallagher Busave le chanteur de groupe de Roc Oasis EMOI Avon
- 1:01shows and coma Eno SE NI PA montalon musical male rosmo nu
- 1:08parte Jean le meme anniversaire SE tadir le vant northeast par
- 1:14Contra no El Gallagher a quetron de prize que Moi bizarme SE to
- 1:21silla that Danny Versaire de John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
- 1:27OK, this is another fun fact about me.
- 1:30As you know, this whole series of the podcast is all about fun
- 1:33facts about Alex Apolidoro. Not that people care, but I
- 1:37thought I would use that as a subject for my text.
- 1:40Anyways, here's the first question.
- 1:44Can't ask just Winnie. Com means when.
- 1:48Can't ask just Winnie. Now juh swiney is the way.
- 1:54In French we say I was born. Bizarrely, we're using sui am I
- 2:00am born. So you may wonder, but why when
- 2:03I say I was born in French we say I am born?
- 2:07That's because the verb net to be born is used in a passe
- 2:13composite, as in the past tense with the auxiliary verb to be.
- 2:18And when we do a pasi compose, we use an auxiliary verb in the
- 2:23present tense and we add a past participle.
- 2:27I've lost you, haven't I? Well, let me rewind now.
- 2:32Je means AI, si means AM northeast N EE in that case is
- 2:39born and northeast Here is a past participle of the verb
- 2:44netre net, which is considered as a movement verb.
- 2:49Weirdly and all the movement verbs are using the auxiliary to
- 2:55be in the basic composite. So can't translate it by I was
- 3:01born. No, can't do that in French.
- 3:04You have to say I am born and weirdly, and this is a fun fact,
- 3:09not about me, but when you use to die, it is also constructed
- 3:18the same way. So if you wanted to say I I am
- 3:25dead or I died, not that you would ever do that because you'd
- 3:29be dead, but imagine I died. It would be I am dead.
- 3:36OK, so GE three more because the verb is more here and Maurier is
- 3:43also considered like a movement verb and therefore in the passe
- 3:46composite is used with the auxiliary verb ETR.
- 3:51OK, so in order to answer this question, can't ask contesques
- 3:56just when was I born? Listen to the text one more
- 4:00time. Listen very carefully.
- 4:03Noel Gallagher Mousavi le chanteur du groupe de Roc Oasis
- 4:08ET Moi avoir en chosen coma Eno SE EPA montalon musical MI le

- 4:25cumois bizarre MO SE tosi la de de niversa de John Fitzgerald
- 4:29Kennedy, Right. Can you answer?
- 4:33When I was born, Did you hear that in a text?
- 4:36Yeah. Le van Neve me the 29th of May,
- 4:42but we said the 29th May le vent northeast may see la dat de mun
- 4:48naniversaire. It's my birthday, the date of my
- 4:52birthday. Can you tell me when yours is
- 4:55kele la dat de votre anniversaire?
- 4:59So to answer this question, you would say la dat de mun
- 5:03naniversaire ay, and whenever your birthday is.
- 5:08Now here's the second question esque Noel Gallagher a Prussian
- 5:14como. Is Noel Gallagher younger than
- 5:18me? Now listen really carefully and
- 5:21tell me we Oh no Noel Gallagher Mousavi le chanteur de groupe de
- 5:28Roc Oasis EMOI avoin chosen coma Eno SE EPA Montano musical mala
- 5:34rosmo nu parte Jean le Mani versaire southeast a die
- 5:38relevante nafme a contr Noel Gallagher a catron de preuss que
- 5:44Moi bizarmo SE to silla DA de niverse de Jean Fitzgerald
- 5:49Kennedy. OK, so to answer esque Noel
- 5:52Gallagher E Preuss Jean que Moi. Is Noel Gallagher younger than
- 5:57me now? Preuss Jean que more young than
- 6:03preview que would be more old than now.
- 6:07This is called a comparative OK plus plus adjective and then CU
- 6:13OK and if you had more plus adjective and then CU it will be
- 6:18less than now. Can you answer whether Noel
- 6:24Gallagher is younger than me or not?
- 6:27Well, in the text that say Noel Gallagher are Catron de plus CU
- 6:35MO, what does that mean? Noel Gallagher is 4 years older
- 6:44than me ILA Catron four years more than me ILA Catron de Prix
- 6:49Comois. OK, when you're going to give
- 6:52your age, you don't say I am for example 35.
- 6:58You would say in French I have 35 years, so JE Tran St. con.
- 7:05So the same goes for well, he is 4 years older.
- 7:09You would say he has four year more than you Don Quix Ella
- 7:15catron de Proust catois or quinoa For me in that case, to
- 7:21answer the question, is Noel Gallagher younger a Persian
- 7:25quinoa then you would say no. Noel Gallagher a preview Quetois
- 7:33Elie preview is older by four years.
- 7:37OK, so this is quite difficult. OK, fun fact, Noel Gallagher was
- 7:43born in 1967. That tells you my age.
- 7:46Now if you've listened to the text, I am not going to reveal
- 7:51my age unless you're very good at maths.
- 7:55Well, you don't need to be very good at maths to work out how
- 7:58old I am, OK? Anyway, we're going to read it
- 8:03one more time, OK, with the translation to help you a bit
- 8:07more, and that should become much clearer.
- 8:11Noel Gallagher, Mousavi Le Chanter, the group the rock
- 8:15Oasis. So Noel Gallagher, you know, the
- 8:19lead singer of the rock band Oasis, the group the rock EI Moi
- 8:26avoir in shows and comma. So Noel Gallagher and I and me,
- 8:31we have nu savant unchos en coma.
- 8:35One thing in common, No SE northeast par montalon musical
- 8:40and no, it's not my physical talent.
- 8:44You know, Malo Rosmo, unfortunately, Malo Rosmo nu
- 8:49parte Jean le meme anniversaire. We share the same birthday sita
- 8:55dia, which means Levant neuf may Levant neuf may the 29th of May
- 9:03Noel Gallagher a Catron de Prisco noir.
- 9:07Noel Gallagher is 4 years older than me.
- 9:11Now remember what I've said, when you give your age you need
- 9:14to use avoir. So je Trinton, I'm 30 years, J
- 9:21Sanconto I'm 50 years and so on. OK?
- 9:24Do not say je suis Sanconto, je suis ton doesn't work in French.
- 9:29OK? Now Noel Gallagher is 4 years
- 9:32older than me, OK? Bizarre.
- 9:37Strangely, bizarrely. OK, so to see like that Danny
- 9:41Verser de John fits the old Kennedy, I can't say it.
- 9:46It is Also John fits the old Kennedy's birthday.
- 9:49OK, and Latoya Jackson by by the way, just in case, you know, you
- 9:57want to know, we did some research on who, what famous
- 10:01person was born on the 29th of May, right?
- 10:05So we've read that text, we've listened to it three times, OK,
- 10:10and we've translated it. OK, Now what I want to emphasize
- 10:14on 2 words, Malorosmo and Bizarmo.
- 10:18Now Manor rousman means unfortunately and bizarman means
- 10:22strangely or bizarrely. Now these are called adverbs of
- 10:26manner. OK?
- 10:28And the way we create those we have to do 2 things.
- 10:33Take an adjective Manor, which is unhappy.
- 10:37OK, in order to form Manor rousman, what we've done is that
- 10:42we take Manor Roux, the masculine adjective form, put it
- 10:46into its feminine adjective form, which is malorose, and all
- 10:51we need to do afterwards is add more malorose MO, unfortunately.
- 10:57And so we do the same for bizarre MO.
- 10:59Bizarre is the adjective, it is bizarre.
- 11:03The feminine adjective for bizarre is bizarre because it
- 11:06ends with an E anyway, and we add more bizarre MO.
- 11:11Now, can you form an adverb using rapid?
- 11:15Rapid, that means fast. Now rapid, this adjective, what
- 11:21would be rapidly or fast, rapid de Mont, exactly.
- 11:27OK, you get it. I cover how to form in great
- 11:31detail the adverb of manner, and I also run through tons of
- 11:37different adverbs as well in my complete French course Learn
- 11:41French with Alexa, which you can find at Learn French with
- 11:44alexa.com. And if you don't know who I am,
- 11:47I am the YouTube Alexa Polidoro from the very popular YouTube
- 11:54channel Learn French with Alexa. That's it for me.
- 11:57Au revoir abiento bisu bisu.
