- 1:36Speaker 1: It's a Bootleg keV Show with Sean Paul. Welcome, sir, bro,
- 1:40Speaker 1: thanks for having Yes, sir man, you've had a busy
- 1:42Speaker 1: You were just saying, how busy of a year you've had.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I've had a busy day all year, a busy
- 1:48Speaker 2: day all year.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Summertime, you and Wiz and the baby were on the
- 1:52Speaker 1: road together. Yep, how was that?
- 1:55Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:55Speaker 1: The Whiz is like such a professional and he's also
- 1:58Speaker 1: all time smoker.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Like I'm sure, y'all, Bro, we connected on many levels,
- 2:03Speaker 2: but I didn't know, dude was such a fit buff.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Like, yeah, he brings the gym, brings the gym he brings.
- 2:08Speaker 2: He got a different boxing coach in most places, and
- 2:12Speaker 2: so I does ship. Yeah, I took advantage of learning
- 2:16Speaker 2: a little bit more about boxing. Cut I shot a
- 2:19Speaker 2: box you know, yeah, Keith Tulica Heart Heart Race going up.
- 2:24Speaker 2: But they was like, oh, you're punching wrong. I'm like, bro,
- 2:26Speaker 2: I'm not going to be punching nobody though. So anyway,
- 2:29Speaker 2: they taught me. And the old vibe was a good vibe.
- 2:33Speaker 2: As we said, the tour is called good vibes only,
- 2:36Speaker 2: and I didn't.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I didn't. How much did I do?
- 2:39Speaker 2: I did about three quarters of a tour, so the
- 2:41Speaker 2: last probably week and a half I was out but
- 2:45Speaker 2: awesome vibes. And before that we were in Europe. Before
- 2:49Speaker 2: that we was in UK. So I've been touring for
- 2:52Speaker 2: five months this year, nine months so far, and I
- 2:56Speaker 2: decided to text some time I come La and come
- 2:58Speaker 2: check y out man man.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Welcome to the show. Brother Yo. The first time I
- 3:02Speaker 1: ever saw you was watching that movie.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Right there, the Big Bud Belly.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and you have like a cameo in the movie
- 3:12Speaker 1: and one of my favorite songs on the soundtrack funny
- 3:14Speaker 1: Here Comes the Boom with DMX mud something Crazy.
- 3:18Speaker 3: It's one of my favorites.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And it's funny because that movie had so much to
- 3:21Speaker 1: do with Jamaicas. Yeah, yeah, what was what? How did
- 3:25Speaker 1: you end up in belly?
- 3:26Speaker 2: Very funny story. So there's a big dance that that's
- 3:31Speaker 2: kept like probably once a year, or it used to
- 3:34Speaker 2: be kept when we were coming up. So my brothers
- 3:36Speaker 2: with a sound system and I'm also I'm an artist
- 3:40Speaker 2: at the time, you know, a few songs out and
- 3:44Speaker 2: a real hot buzz on me. So I decided that
- 3:48Speaker 2: year I'm not going to the dance on the beach.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I'm gonna chill out in the studio.
- 3:52Speaker 3: He comes back, My brother comes back from playing out
- 3:55Speaker 3: there and.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Be like, Yo, you missed it. I'm like, oh, yes,
- 3:57Speaker 2: probably the same things that happened. And he's like, nah,
- 4:01Speaker 2: DMX was out there throw the place down. I was like,
- 4:03Speaker 2: what I really did miss it? It was the facts,
- 4:06Speaker 2: went to sleep, got up the next morning. Tony Kelly,
- 4:09Speaker 2: the producer of that track, caused me, yo, you're doing
- 4:12Speaker 2: the track with Vegas and DMXP shotter check me, check
- 4:15Speaker 2: me in the.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Studio now, so I believe it was like nine thirty.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I got there in the morning and we started writing it,
- 4:22Speaker 2: writing it, and then DMX didn't come till in the evening,
- 4:26Speaker 2: and he was just like, we was writing a girl's song,
- 4:30Speaker 2: me and Vegas because that's what yeah. Yeah, he was
- 4:34Speaker 2: like all other girls and your hands eye and the
- 4:37Speaker 2: DMX came in there and I was like, okay, that's
- 4:39Speaker 2: cool and this is what I got.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Here comes the boom. Yeah. We was like, oh, we.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Started taking our yo, change this word.
- 4:45Speaker 3: We're going to be the shot.
- 4:46Speaker 2: So yeah, and it was appropriate for the movie for sure.
- 4:50Speaker 2: But you know, we we we thought we just wanted
- 4:53Speaker 2: people wanted us to do what we do, which is
- 4:55Speaker 2: more of the ladies. And then we realized, oh, this
- 4:58Speaker 2: is more of a young that thing, so we went
- 5:01Speaker 2: in with the gangs. That thing came and then then
- 5:04Speaker 2: you end up in the movie, in the movie like yeah,
- 5:05Speaker 2: next day I was told, oh, I think the director
- 5:10Speaker 2: he wants you to Williams. Yeah, Hi points you to
- 5:14Speaker 2: shoot the video with with with Vegas and DMX, And
- 5:19Speaker 2: it ended up that we just were put in.
- 5:21Speaker 3: The movie for five minutes or a few seconds, which
- 5:23Speaker 3: is awesome, awesome. I think it was way better than
- 5:26Speaker 3: a video.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah, because that's forever. That's a classics. That's a good classic.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Yeah, man, my thirty seconds in the movie.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny too because that that's prior to like
- 5:36Speaker 1: you becoming like a household.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Name over here. That was one of the introductions.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Like I like to say, there's about two or three
- 5:43Speaker 2: songs that kind of like broke for me in the
- 5:46Speaker 2: States around the same time period.
- 5:48Speaker 3: That's one of them. The port them was another.
- 5:50Speaker 1: One Oh yes, such a classic.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and then and then the next breakup like the one, Yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 2: it was I was just gonna say, that's the next
- 5:57Speaker 2: breakout one.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Man, it's crazy too, man, because you know, it's
- 6:02Speaker 1: wild to think that it's been was was give Me
- 6:05Speaker 1: the Light, oh one oh two?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it was about that that it was recorded.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Damn your twenty five years.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so crazy vibe and it's been a it's been
- 6:19Speaker 2: a nuts right ever since.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Well.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It's interesting, man, because I feel like you were very
- 6:24Speaker 1: much like responsible for bringing the dancehall sound to America
- 6:29Speaker 1: in a commercial way. That like, obviously not to say
- 6:32Speaker 1: that there weren't other artists that had had done stuff
- 6:35Speaker 1: or had records here and there, but like, yeah, you
- 6:37Speaker 1: were like really like the guy who became like a
- 6:40Speaker 1: real mainstay in pop culture and just like radio and
- 6:43Speaker 1: just like when we talk about just like anybody who
- 6:45Speaker 1: needs a feature.
- 6:46Speaker 3: They go to you. They are halla. I mean, it's
- 6:50Speaker 3: been a crazy ride.
- 6:51Speaker 2: And honestly, you know, Shaba Ranks was before me from
- 6:55Speaker 2: my same genre, and so with.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Shaggy to Shaggy, yeah, yeah, Shaggy for sure, for.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Sure, but they both had to they both had to
- 7:04Speaker 2: kind of do hybrid kind of dance hall with mixed
- 7:07Speaker 2: with R and B. It was Johnny Gill and Shabba.
- 7:10Speaker 2: There was Maxi Priest and that was like also you
- 7:15Speaker 2: know R and B, and then Marvin Gaye was what
- 7:19Speaker 2: Shaggy Shaggy broke on in the States. So the advantage
- 7:22Speaker 2: I had, and it wasn't really anything I did, It
- 7:24Speaker 2: was just the timing of everything. The timing came around
- 7:28Speaker 2: where you know, people in the States started to light
- 7:31Speaker 2: those dance hall original dance hall tracks more, they became
- 7:34Speaker 2: more used to hearing them. And I was just somebody
- 7:37Speaker 2: that had recorded a lot in that time period and
- 7:40Speaker 2: it you know, have a unique voice and it just
- 7:43Speaker 2: happened all at the right time, so divine time in thing.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It felt crazy too, because if you think about Duty,
- 7:48Speaker 1: Rocket was like it was like an album full of
- 7:51Speaker 1: singles loo.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Ki yeah, yeah, five straight singles. It was crazy, Like
- 7:57Speaker 2: did you have any idea? Like nah, no, we just
- 8:01Speaker 2: hope the best for each song, and like things like
- 8:04Speaker 2: like Glue, Like Glue was about two years old because
- 8:08Speaker 2: like Glue I recorded in Jamaica in nineteen ninety eight
- 8:11Speaker 2: and that summer went crazy and the next summer too,
- 8:14Speaker 2: and then it kind of died down and then it
- 8:16Speaker 2: picked up in the States after that, so it had
- 8:18Speaker 2: to be on the album.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So I mean the album comes out though, too, So
- 8:21Speaker 1: that's a four year old song if it was ninety eight.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Yeah, so so crazy.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Right, that's fucking nuts.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:27Speaker 1: You know my favorite what was the joint with Sasha
- 8:30Speaker 1: I'm Still in Love with You that's my shit dog.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Yeah Yeah, I love that joint. Yeah.
- 8:35Speaker 2: A lot of people really like because it was the
- 8:36Speaker 2: only authentic reggae track on there, and that's the roots
- 8:40Speaker 2: of dancehall and I was kind of paying homage and
- 8:42Speaker 2: at the time, dance I was really big in Jamaica,
- 8:45Speaker 2: so nobody did that, and I went back to you know,
- 8:48Speaker 2: the original reggae tracks to spit where we spit or
- 8:52Speaker 2: I shouldn't say nobody, I should just say again timing.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I caught it at the right time and not a
- 8:57Speaker 2: lot of people was doing that.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So do you feel like because there's the way you
- 9:03Speaker 1: wrap like a lot of Americans will fuck your lyrics up.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Happens all the time.
- 9:10Speaker 1: It happens still to this day.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Happens to my wife right now.
- 9:13Speaker 1: They know the lyrics, but they don't know the lyrics
- 9:15Speaker 1: exactly the same. What is the biggest mistaken lyric you
- 9:19Speaker 1: see people like like not knowing even though they kind
- 9:23Speaker 1: of know where they think they know.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Some stuff about and give me the light.
- 9:28Speaker 2: There's one on YouTube that's really funny talking about cheese.
- 9:34Speaker 2: When I didn't say anything about cheese.
- 9:37Speaker 3: But my wife.
- 9:38Speaker 2: She she she met me and said, what's where's Belfazor?
- 9:42Speaker 2: And I'm like, what is that? She's like, you say
- 9:45Speaker 2: it in the song. I'm like, oh, I don't what
- 9:48Speaker 2: is that? And she played me the song and I
- 9:50Speaker 2: was like, oh, it was the first song I had
- 9:52Speaker 2: as a baby girl.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Don't cry no more.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Tell them to say you can id to pain Alaana,
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah dash show Hey that boy for sure? But she
- 9:59Speaker 2: thought I said, that's the way above Zora, But you.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Said why for sure?
- 10:03Speaker 3: Yeah, like throw the kid you're dating away?
- 10:06Speaker 1: Is your wife Jamaican or no?
- 10:08Speaker 3: Yeah she is?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Okay, come on, and she still got it wrong. So
- 10:11Speaker 2: you know that's fair. That's fair.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Hey, we got to stop the interview to tell you
- 10:13Speaker 1: about our good folks, odd Socks.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Man.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Now, these are the odd Socks Basics, ladies and gentlemen.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Now when I tell you this is a product that
- 10:22Speaker 1: every single day I'm alive for the last five six
- 10:27Speaker 1: years I have used are these odd Socks Basics. Now,
- 10:30Speaker 1: what odd Socks is doing is they're kind of reinventing
- 10:33Speaker 1: the sock game, if we're being honest, and the underwear game.
- 10:35Speaker 1: You know a lot of times you'll hit Walmart, you'll
- 10:37Speaker 1: hit Target, you'll get some socks, you get some draws.
- 10:39Speaker 1: They're affordable, band up with holes in them. They don't
- 10:43Speaker 1: really feel great. Not odd socks, ladies and gentlemen. These
- 10:46Speaker 1: odd Socks Basics are the most comfortable socks I've ever
- 10:49Speaker 1: had on my feet. Not only that, but you're super affordable.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Fourteen ninety nine for a six pack. That's it, odd
- 10:58Speaker 1: socks dot Com. And if you don't believe me, sock
- 11:03Speaker 1: check full. Wait that's the ex is on the other side.
- 11:07Speaker 1: There we go. Ah, you see that. Sorry you had
- 11:11Speaker 1: to see those white legs. But it's so dope that
- 11:15Speaker 1: you know, I get to push a product that I
- 11:17Speaker 1: use and that I love, so odd socks they got
- 11:19Speaker 1: the six pack of socks for fourteen ninety nine a
- 11:21Speaker 1: odd socks dot com. The basics, this is the future
- 11:25Speaker 1: of socks, the future of underwear comfort and affordability. I'm
- 11:30Speaker 1: talking about affordability without jeopardizing the quality because they are
- 11:34Speaker 1: the most comfortable socks you ever put on your feet.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Ladies and gents and the ETCeteras. Got to show love
- 11:39Speaker 1: to the ETCeteras. We like all the stripes on the flag.
- 11:42Speaker 1: There are odd socks dot com. Man, much love to
- 11:44Speaker 1: my brothers over there. Make sure you get some right now,
- 11:47Speaker 1: odd socks dot Com. Let's get back to the interview.
- 11:49Speaker 1: What part did you make you from King Son?
- 11:51Speaker 3: Uh?
- 11:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I went to uh for the first time, I
- 11:53Speaker 1: went to a grill. Oh we get so fire.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Yeah, awesome place.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I personally haven't been there in almost ten years and
- 12:01Speaker 2: it's a place I.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Used to go every year.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Beaches, so nice.
- 12:05Speaker 3: I gotta get back there, man.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And you know what's crazy is like being in the
- 12:08Speaker 1: States and especially being on the West Coast, I don't
- 12:09Speaker 1: feel like we have access to like the greatest Jamaican food.
- 12:14Speaker 1: So man, when I tell you.
- 12:15Speaker 3: You tell your taste it and good stuff over it.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I think I went to a place called the pork Pit. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 1: Oh my fucking god.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Yeah, good jerk pork man.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and the sauces they got it that moment. And
- 12:28Speaker 1: then we went to some spot just on the street,
- 12:30Speaker 1: just on the side of the street.
- 12:32Speaker 3: It's good. We got good street food. Our pine chicken
- 12:35Speaker 3: mone is kind of like a knockoff jerk chicken. So
- 12:37Speaker 3: jerk chicken. You have to cook it with the real spices,
- 12:41Speaker 3: the real wood.
- 12:44Speaker 2: But with the pan chicken you couldt it's just like
- 12:47Speaker 2: a street barbecue and it tastes the same.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure, nuts, it's the best. How do you
- 12:51Speaker 1: feel like, you know, I feel like in twenty twenty
- 12:53Speaker 1: five to two, it feels like dance hall reggae is
- 12:57Speaker 1: is kind of in another like renaissance of like coming
- 13:01Speaker 1: back in terms of like commercially, it's nice to have
- 13:04Speaker 1: like vibes, Cartel out and yeah and superactive and huge.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Man, it's done a lot for you know, just the space.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Why was I saying, how do you feel like? You know?
- 13:14Speaker 1: In twenty twenty five? The space is right now because
- 13:15Speaker 1: you've got a record going crazy, the Ginger Records going Crazy,
- 13:18Speaker 1: great follow up coming bro crazy.
- 13:20Speaker 2: If I listen, you know when people say used to
- 13:23Speaker 2: say to me, I was putting on a single and
- 13:25Speaker 2: they're like, oh, but isn't dan sall like a summer thing?
- 13:28Speaker 2: I'm like, no, is it all year round for us?
- 13:31Speaker 2: So for me, it's never gone any space. It's been
- 13:36Speaker 2: living there, you know what I mean. It's where it's at.
- 13:38Speaker 2: But it's people's attention span and what's coming at them
- 13:43Speaker 2: and the different stuff, and so it's to me, it's
- 13:46Speaker 2: the public's attention and it's turning back on us now
- 13:49Speaker 2: and that's dope.
- 13:50Speaker 3: That's beautiful.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I think that there is a lot more players in
- 13:52Speaker 2: the game, a lot more producers, a lot more people
- 13:55Speaker 2: from outside of the whole original dancehall genre community actually
- 14:01Speaker 2: embracing and doing sounding stuff like that, and that's awesome.
- 14:05Speaker 2: That just means we're growing bigger and bigger, and you know,
- 14:08Speaker 2: I'm being interviewed by people who know more about the
- 14:12Speaker 2: culture than they did back then when I first broke
- 14:15Speaker 2: and I'm being interviewed people didn't understand like what to
- 14:20Speaker 2: call it, and they're like, I'm like, I'm danceall and
- 14:22Speaker 2: they go, oh, dance music.
- 14:23Speaker 3: I love it. And you know, there's if they want
- 14:26Speaker 3: electric music.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Exactly, and if you if if they weren't like someone
- 14:30Speaker 2: like you who knows the ends of the different genres,
- 14:33Speaker 2: you know what it is. But there's a lot more
- 14:35Speaker 2: people like you, and I would say, like about dance
- 14:38Speaker 2: all music, that the awareness is much more.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Just call dance all reggae.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know, for me, I call it reggae
- 14:44Speaker 2: dance all because I do reggae tracks as well, right right, right, Yeah.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I just feel like there's like a it's it's almost
- 14:50Speaker 1: like if someone just like classified hip hop and R
- 14:53Speaker 1: and B the same thing.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Yeah, because there's some artists that but they're very you know.
- 14:57Speaker 1: They're at the core there's but they're different, but they
- 15:00Speaker 1: can't be the same.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Yes for sure.
- 15:02Speaker 2: You know, because a lot of a lot of records
- 15:04Speaker 2: are are you know, like softcore hip hop R and B.
- 15:10Speaker 1: You know, so yeah, you as a DJ, uh get
- 15:15Speaker 1: busy kind of turns into this instrumental that gets remixed
- 15:21Speaker 1: over and over and it's one of the biggest club
- 15:24Speaker 1: records ever. But I just think about all the breaks
- 15:26Speaker 1: I hear, all of the dub plates. You'll hear like
- 15:29Speaker 1: that record is like an all time DJ record. That
- 15:32Speaker 1: beat has been remixed so much.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot, you know, big up to Lanky,
- 15:40Speaker 2: he's a producer and people who who understand the vibe
- 15:45Speaker 2: know that that that's just one of the most prolific
- 15:47Speaker 2: danceau tracks that it is. I mean, you know if
- 15:51Speaker 2: Rihanna under replay is the same type of ridium, it
- 15:53Speaker 2: comes off of that.
- 15:55Speaker 3: So does you know the Nina Sky.
- 15:57Speaker 1: And True Yeah, that is kind of crazy.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Yeah, even even Black Eyed Peas had a joint a mama. Yeah,
- 16:06Speaker 2: so it's the same. It's the same syncopate from those days.
- 16:09Speaker 2: A lot of people copied and or I just inspired
- 16:13Speaker 2: by it, inspired it, inspired by it, and you know
- 16:16Speaker 2: it's led to to more of that as well. So
- 16:20Speaker 2: very awesome to feel that we set the trend with
- 16:24Speaker 2: that kind of stuff.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Randomly, you are in the Deaf Jam game and why
- 16:31Speaker 1: which was I have that and Deaf Jam Bendet on
- 16:35Speaker 1: PlayStation two respectfully in three. But was that cool to
- 16:38Speaker 1: be able to like that? Was that's like such a
- 16:41Speaker 1: cultural game like.
- 16:42Speaker 3: It was, and.
- 16:45Speaker 2: You know when I did it, I remember it being
- 16:48Speaker 2: either Grammys or something like that, like American Music Awards.
- 16:52Speaker 3: We were there for that period of time here in
- 16:55Speaker 3: l A.
- 16:56Speaker 2: And then you know, I got the part to come,
- 16:59Speaker 2: you know, say though things in the game, and they
- 17:01Speaker 2: were going to make a character for me and I
- 17:04Speaker 2: run into people every now and then I was like,
- 17:06Speaker 2: you know, I was twelve.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Years old, bro, and why they make you so hard
- 17:09Speaker 3: to beat? Bro?
- 17:10Speaker 2: Big dudes now will be like, yo, that's the best game.
- 17:13Speaker 2: So that feels good and it helps my music to
- 17:16Speaker 2: kind of reach people where it you know, probably wouldn't
- 17:20Speaker 2: wouldn't have heard it at that time.
- 17:22Speaker 3: So awesome.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Yeah, talk to me, man, because it's got to be
- 17:27Speaker 1: something crazy to like come out kind of put on
- 17:30Speaker 1: for Jamaica, put on for the genre, but then to
- 17:33Speaker 1: be able to take a Grammy home at the same time.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Awesome, even though I mean American music or Grammy, those
- 17:40Speaker 2: are things I didn't dream i'd be near you know
- 17:42Speaker 2: what I mean, I didn't dream that we'd be walking
- 17:45Speaker 2: down those those red carpets.
- 17:47Speaker 3: So I mean, I just do music for fun.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I do music for my own personal expression and enjoyment
- 17:53Speaker 2: and creation anting and for people to start liking it
- 17:57Speaker 2: and gravitating towards it. Time bring me to those spots.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Where are those those those that level of recognition where
- 18:06Speaker 2: I'm deserving of a Grammy or American music or it
- 18:10Speaker 2: is mind blowing to me. So you know, appreciate to
- 18:13Speaker 2: everybody who helped me to get to that spot. And
- 18:17Speaker 2: it ain't really about like that wasn't my dream. I
- 18:19Speaker 2: really appreciate it, but it ain't about that for me.
- 18:22Speaker 2: I'm fulfilled every day when I see smiles on people's
- 18:25Speaker 2: faces when I'm singing the song in front of them
- 18:28Speaker 2: in the stage or you know, just hearing that people
- 18:30Speaker 2: love it and they post and they playing the song
- 18:33Speaker 2: in the car.
- 18:34Speaker 3: It feels good, man, I feels.
- 18:35Speaker 1: And it's crazy because that album had legs.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, five tracks deep, bro, you.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Know what I'm talking about? Like how long like between
- 18:42Speaker 1: like the album dropping and how long y'all worked that much?
- 18:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a while.
- 18:47Speaker 1: It was a while, bro, what the Trinity came out?
- 18:50Speaker 3: In Trinity came out two thousand and five five six, Yeah,
- 18:54Speaker 3: it's about two thousand and five.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it's crazy and it's wild too because back
- 18:58Speaker 1: then I feel like you couldn't turn the radio on
- 18:59Speaker 1: without here you on something.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Yeah. Man, it was a big vibe.
- 19:03Speaker 1: What was like because obviously you know, being on a
- 19:06Speaker 1: Beyonce record that was her first solo album, first solo album.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Baby Boy is a classic.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Amazing, amazing sexist song. Bro, I can't I have to
- 19:14Speaker 2: give thanks for things like that. And I opened for
- 19:17Speaker 2: a show for her. Maybe it was all the way around,
- 19:21Speaker 2: I can't remember, but it was a small show in Jamaica,
- 19:24Speaker 2: like a niche market show, and she she was there
- 19:26Speaker 2: with Destiny's Child and I met her there and then
- 19:33Speaker 2: for about two years later to be called and say, oh,
- 19:35Speaker 2: my first solo album, and you know, knowing she she
- 19:39Speaker 2: was right, really a spotlight artist. Like the group itself
- 19:42Speaker 2: was hot, but a lot of people spoke about her.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I just felt that this is an awesome opportunity and
- 19:48Speaker 2: they sent the track and I was very pleased that
- 19:51Speaker 2: it was dance a lot of times in those days
- 19:54Speaker 2: people asked me to do a collab and this I
- 19:56Speaker 2: had a hip hop and I got to go over
- 19:58Speaker 2: there to do it.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Or it is R and B.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Sure, it's it's rock or it pop oriented. Sorry, And
- 20:04Speaker 2: because like there the Blue Client Troll record wasn't no,
- 20:06Speaker 2: it was a Blue Count trail. It was more like
- 20:08Speaker 2: it was a it was a ridding from Doctor j R.
- 20:13Speaker 1: And another dope record.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was a dope record, but I was
- 20:18Speaker 2: very I was much more enthused that the Baby Boys
- 20:22Speaker 2: song was more dance all oriented.
- 20:24Speaker 3: It was really cool.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Yeah, And at that time, I don't think we understand
- 20:27Speaker 1: like the run Beyonce is about to.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Go on, No nobody did.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I mean a lot of legendary, but the Beyonce Run
- 20:34Speaker 2: else the sky high after that, then the first album
- 20:37Speaker 2: True and it took me. It took me to a
- 20:39Speaker 2: different level in my own personal career for sure.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And she and she has to perform. She's performing that
- 20:44Speaker 1: every time she's.
- 20:45Speaker 3: She do she do it? Man, she looked it and
- 20:48Speaker 3: I'm doing all the good stuff.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I want to give a shout out to our family
- 20:51Speaker 1: at Broken Man, Broken Listen. I love these vapes. Broken
- 20:58Speaker 1: Cannabis makesure you go shoot them a follow. So I
- 21:00Speaker 1: was in Austin, Texas, and you know I was off
- 21:04Speaker 1: the Broken in Texas, even though I'm not sure legally
- 21:06Speaker 1: I was supposed to be off the Broken in Texas.
- 21:08Speaker 1: But look, you gotta go follow them right now. Go
- 21:10Speaker 1: to Rokencannabis dot com. Shoot them a follow on social media.
- 21:13Speaker 1: You'll see it down below. They got the solventless Rosin pure.
- 21:18Speaker 1: It will melt you in a good way, by the way,
- 21:20Speaker 1: all right, so make sure you go shoot them a follow, man.
- 21:22Speaker 1: And you know we only rock with the premium the best,
- 21:26Speaker 1: and when I tell you, Broken is the best. They've
- 21:29Speaker 1: been doing this for so long, and uh man, the rosin,
- 21:33Speaker 1: the solventless rosin, Man, it hits all right. So they
- 21:35Speaker 1: got the disposables, They got the carts. Let's just open
- 21:40Speaker 1: one of these up just so y'all can see. These
- 21:41Speaker 1: carts are beautiful, all right, We got it open. He
- 21:45Speaker 1: fast forwarded, all right, So this is the cart. And
- 21:48Speaker 1: then obviously you got your disposable right here. Both of
- 21:52Speaker 1: these incredible. Follow them and check them out. Rokncannabis dot com.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Talk to me, man, because obviously you're super active. Right now.
- 21:59Speaker 1: The new record is dope, thank you. It feels like
- 22:03Speaker 1: some vintage Sean Paul. Feels like something that's missing from
- 22:05Speaker 1: the radio. Are you working on a new project or what?
- 22:08Speaker 1: What is what is currently obviously the songs out, but
- 22:11Speaker 1: is that part of a body of work it is.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I have a number of singles lined up. I think
- 22:17Speaker 2: today's nowadays is music business is kind of geared towards singles,
- 22:24Speaker 2: and I always like to make an album, like when
- 22:27Speaker 2: you look up there you see a lot of like
- 22:30Speaker 2: a lot of dope, iconic, iconic, classic album and that
- 22:35Speaker 2: marks that time in those artists' life for me and
- 22:40Speaker 2: the fans life too, So that's what I'm more geared towards.
- 22:45Speaker 2: But lately I've been just dropping singles, hoping to put
- 22:48Speaker 2: an album out soon. I do have a lot of
- 22:50Speaker 2: singles lined up, and to me, where Ginger is right now.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Where it's being received, is a good spot.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And it's a good time to start putting out my
- 22:59Speaker 2: man some you know stuff for early next year. And
- 23:05Speaker 2: I got songs with Amanda Refa.
- 23:08Speaker 1: She's a dope, she's amazing. She's Atlanta. Yeah, she's incredible.
- 23:11Speaker 2: She's from Barbados and just has a Caribbean vibe, but
- 23:16Speaker 2: she do all kind of different trap stuff and R
- 23:19Speaker 2: and B stuff, and.
- 23:20Speaker 1: She she had no break with Farrell.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and also also Kendrick Yeah yeah, Kendrick Yeah. So
- 23:26Speaker 2: big up to her and looking forward to putting that
- 23:29Speaker 2: out soon. But yeah, you know, it just has been
- 23:35Speaker 2: a good look putting out these tracks and hoping to
- 23:38Speaker 2: put out the album soon.
- 23:39Speaker 3: I'm not sure that what your name, but.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like everything's in good space. I like
- 23:44Speaker 1: love and is doing.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Is awesome to me. I've been telling people she's been.
- 23:48Speaker 2: She was on your album a few years ago, and
- 23:50Speaker 2: I'm on hers. She's been so far, She's been one
- 23:53Speaker 2: of the most exciting stories from Dan Sall in years.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I've been telling people that all the time. Exciting for
- 23:59Speaker 2: me because where where what it takes to be a
- 24:06Speaker 2: dance artist is one thing, and that's very hard from
- 24:10Speaker 2: to be from the community and in the genre, but
- 24:12Speaker 2: also to break past that and get attention past that
- 24:16Speaker 2: space is something that I've been wanting other people to achieve.
- 24:21Speaker 2: And so you know, when Baby Shamp gets signed and
- 24:23Speaker 2: Elephant Man, I was I was always shaaring for stuff
- 24:26Speaker 2: like that. You know, Egyptiana had a big tune and yeah,
- 24:32Speaker 2: and so so when she came along, I'm like rooting
- 24:36Speaker 2: for her.
- 24:36Speaker 1: So shaken to the Maxx Records big man.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, that's huge.
- 24:40Speaker 2: That that's that's after the fact for me, Like I
- 24:43Speaker 2: knew before those things that she was going to be
- 24:47Speaker 2: something you know, speak.
- 24:49Speaker 1: To like the synergy between like what has kind of
- 24:54Speaker 1: the risk because in the same way that I feel
- 24:56Speaker 1: like dance hall and Caribbean music has the resurgence commercially,
- 25:02Speaker 1: I feel like we saw the same thing happened with
- 25:04Speaker 1: reggaetone because you know, Reggaeton had that crazy Tago called
- 25:06Speaker 1: her on Daddy Yankee Spike earlier chewed out a little
- 25:09Speaker 1: bit commercially, and then now it's the bad Bundy's doing
- 25:12Speaker 1: the super Bowl.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 25:14Speaker 1: But what is kind of like sonically there's always been
- 25:16Speaker 1: like a kind of like a marriage between the two.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah, speak to that man sound wise, I mean we
- 25:23Speaker 2: we we definitely believe that the entire Reggaeton sub sub
- 25:31Speaker 2: what we call it the back beat. Yeah, most of
- 25:33Speaker 2: the songs are is of a rhythm called them Bao.
- 25:38Speaker 2: They call it them bo Chabaranks had a record called
- 25:40Speaker 2: them bao on on a rhythm track, which is which
- 25:44Speaker 2: is what they sampled from or they sampled from and
- 25:47Speaker 2: it became their known sound. So U you know, big
- 25:53Speaker 2: up Steely and Cleavy, they're they're legendary producers. Steely passed
- 25:56Speaker 2: away r I p to him, but Clevie's right now
- 25:59Speaker 2: do in his thing there.
- 26:01Speaker 3: You know, they're there.
- 26:04Speaker 2: They're legendary producers, and they're in I think they're in
- 26:07Speaker 2: a like a court case type of vibe.
- 26:10Speaker 3: You know.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I just wish them luck because for me, the genre
- 26:14Speaker 2: is definitely something that UH influenced reggae time, even afrobeat
- 26:20Speaker 2: how it sounds nowadays.
- 26:21Speaker 3: He too.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Even you know Trinidad music. There's something called triny bad music, which.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Is what we influenced as well.
- 26:28Speaker 2: And so for me, and it's arguably it's arguably one
- 26:32Speaker 2: of my most controversial things to say, because I love
- 26:35Speaker 2: reggae music and they put us here and it's the
- 26:37Speaker 2: father of our music. But I think dancehall has been
- 26:41Speaker 2: has spawned more music UH.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Inspired inspired genres.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I can say that just.
- 26:47Speaker 2: About as much as reggae has, or even more. I
- 26:50Speaker 2: mean from reggae we get the German bass and you know,
- 26:54Speaker 2: it's very I mean, I feel like reggae has got
- 26:56Speaker 2: some influence dance, drum and bass, I mean hip hop
- 27:00Speaker 2: influences and stuff like that. But for for for for
- 27:04Speaker 2: dance All, it's been reggaeton, it's been afrobeat.
- 27:07Speaker 3: It's been these pop songs that come out like Rihanna Work, Work, Work,
- 27:11Speaker 3: that's a straight danceall record that.
- 27:13Speaker 2: The example from I was on that track back in
- 27:16Speaker 2: ninety eight.
- 27:17Speaker 1: That's crazy to the song that Rihanna sampled.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Work where you were on the original on the original track. Yeah,
- 27:23Speaker 2: it's called Sailor Way Reading, I think.
- 27:26Speaker 3: But also you.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Know, people like Drake and Bieber have used the sound
- 27:32Speaker 2: and to me, that's awesome. And people people hear me
- 27:35Speaker 2: mention them and say, oh, you know, you know you
- 27:38Speaker 2: just bitter and I'm not bitter. I just want people
- 27:40Speaker 2: to know. I love that they're doing it. I just
- 27:44Speaker 2: want people to know that is an influence from Danceall.
- 27:47Speaker 2: It makes if people understand that, it makes you realize
- 27:51Speaker 2: how powerful we really are, you know what I mean,
- 27:53Speaker 2: and that there are more people in the game, not
- 27:55Speaker 2: just myself and Shaggy or some names that you've heard.
- 27:58Speaker 1: For sure.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Yeah, should look out for. There's people that they should
- 28:02Speaker 2: look out for. They're gonna come with hits.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Who are some of those new artists you feel.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Like Busy Signal it's not new, but he's very talented,
- 28:09Speaker 2: very awesome. Big up to people like Skan. I find
- 28:15Speaker 2: that his tone of voice is awesome. He's an amazing
- 28:17Speaker 2: stage performer. You know, there's some Alkaline is also somebody
- 28:23Speaker 2: that has had hits in the genre. You know, I'm
- 28:27Speaker 2: cheering for all of that, you know, and everybody in
- 28:30Speaker 2: between who have who have come up, you know, like
- 28:33Speaker 2: Charlie Blacks, He's.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Had some amazing hits and and those things. To me,
- 28:38Speaker 3: it's more of the marrier I've been.
- 28:39Speaker 2: I've been on for years, and I want more of
- 28:41Speaker 2: my company, on my on my own peers around this
- 28:45Speaker 2: level where I am. You know, it's been It's been
- 28:49Speaker 2: an awesome journey, but sometimes hard to kind of like,
- 28:53Speaker 2: you know, just get a win. Like sometimes I sit
- 28:55Speaker 2: down on a plane beside a nice, a nice elderly
- 28:58Speaker 2: lady and she's like, oh, you look like a rapper.
- 29:01Speaker 3: What do you do? And I said, what I do?
- 29:03Speaker 3: I do danceall? And she said dance all.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I said, yeah, it's reggae's like, she knows your music,
- 29:07Speaker 2: but she said, oh, reggaeton, and I said, it's not reggaeton.
- 29:10Speaker 3: It says, it's very similar. So for that to happen
- 29:13Speaker 3: to me.
- 29:14Speaker 2: When I don't have a beef with reggaeton atal, I
- 29:16Speaker 2: just want people to know that came from what we
- 29:18Speaker 2: do and what we're we call it is danceall similar
- 29:22Speaker 2: to I'm a piano and afro beat right now everybody,
- 29:26Speaker 2: a lot of people think that's the same genre, but
- 29:29Speaker 2: like I'm a piano is slightly different, and it's it's
- 29:33Speaker 2: a thing, you know what I mean. So I want
- 29:34Speaker 2: I want people to know, and I want people to
- 29:37Speaker 2: come up and and and you know, do numbers same thing.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Yeah, like you said, it kind of takes like a
- 29:42Speaker 1: full movement, Like it can never just be one artist, can't.
- 29:45Speaker 1: It's kind of damn near be like four or five
- 29:47Speaker 1: people breaking at the same time.
- 29:49Speaker 2: So it adds to it adds to my power them
- 29:51Speaker 2: coming up, you know what I mean. If I'm the
- 29:54Speaker 2: only one in the building, people could still pass it
- 29:56Speaker 2: off even though there's been twenty straight years as oh
- 29:59Speaker 2: that's a luke and so it ain't.
- 30:01Speaker 1: It's been a flu for twenty years? How many how
- 30:05Speaker 1: many records have you sold so far? Like what's the
- 30:06Speaker 1: latest like that? You know off the top of your head.
- 30:09Speaker 3: You have to ask that guy over there.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Yeah, he's gonna ask.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Let's just yeah, billions.
- 30:16Speaker 2: I don't know a lot, and it feels good and
- 30:20Speaker 2: I'm very very thankful for that, you know what I mean.
- 30:23Speaker 3: There's been many years where it was like, oh, it's this.
- 30:27Speaker 1: One twenty six million according to Google a little bit
- 30:29Speaker 1: by the way, that was in twenty seventeen, so that's
- 30:32Speaker 1: that's a while back. So yeah, I would say that
- 30:35Speaker 1: was eight years ago. So he has a lot more,
- 30:37Speaker 1: definitely north of thirty. Yeah, So that's crazy.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Good stuff and I have to give thanksan you know,
- 30:45Speaker 2: big up to it's the people who did it before me.
- 30:48Speaker 2: So from the big great Bob Miley to you know,
- 30:51Speaker 2: bands like Third World on Blackkuhuu who set the trend,
- 30:54Speaker 2: and then Barrington Levy and people like.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Bon Man, you know, I mean, like people like Junior Reed.
- 31:00Speaker 3: They all came and set paths for me as just
- 31:03Speaker 3: a younger artist.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Hey, we gotta wrap up this interview another one presented
- 31:06Speaker 1: by Hardan Baby. You already know what it is. Shout

- 32:43Speaker 3: Well my four, I gotta here four? Your four, I gotta.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Say in mind four, which was Super Cat. I I
- 32:49Speaker 2: don't like him, Yeah, people tell me ever since I
- 32:52Speaker 2: was banging on a school desk making those rhythms and
- 32:55Speaker 2: singing songs, They're like, oh, you sound like Cat, And
- 32:57Speaker 2: I always felt very proud of that.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Next one, SHAHARANX. He was somebody to me who was
- 33:03Speaker 3: just like the General. You know what I mean, Nobody
- 33:07Speaker 3: sounded like him.
- 33:08Speaker 2: There were other people who had hit songs, but nobody
- 33:11Speaker 2: had his style of saga and his old, you know
- 33:16Speaker 2: presence in Danta. Another one is Papa San. A lot
- 33:19Speaker 2: of people don't know him, uh, I would say. Younger
- 33:23Speaker 2: people don't know about Papa San. They may have heard songs,
- 33:26Speaker 2: but they don't know it's him, and he is awesome.
- 33:28Speaker 2: He was in the Guinness World Book Records for the
- 33:31Speaker 2: most words in a song back in nineteen eighty nine
- 33:35Speaker 2: because it was just speed rapping and it was.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Like whoa set records and h you know.
- 33:40Speaker 2: He had songs that lasted for five minutes without no chorus.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the same, like like.
- 33:46Speaker 2: What Lil Wayne did with Milly. But it's just like
- 33:50Speaker 2: it was like nuts. He told the whole story. So
- 33:53Speaker 2: big up to Papa Son. One more last one he
- 33:56Speaker 2: passed away. His name is uh General Uh sorry, not
- 34:01Speaker 2: General Major worries u R I p to him some
- 34:06Speaker 2: gun violence. I'm not too sure what happened, but he
- 34:09Speaker 2: was kind of a precursor to Shaba.
- 34:11Speaker 3: In my generation.
- 34:12Speaker 2: We considered his style what Shaba kind of learned from,
- 34:16Speaker 2: and even though they were djaying from the same camp
- 34:19Speaker 2: we had rated this guy Major worries a lot and
- 34:22Speaker 2: a lot of times I can't find him on YouTube
- 34:24Speaker 2: or Spotify. I find I find live performances of him
- 34:29Speaker 2: on YouTube sometimes. Yeah, a few records. But the stuff
- 34:33Speaker 2: that I would hear that I loved, I.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Don't hear it. No, I don't know where to find
- 34:37Speaker 3: it a lot.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Yo. I they called me bootleg Camp because they used
- 34:41Speaker 1: to sell bootleg DVDs and ship at the SWAT meet. Yeah,
- 34:44Speaker 1: and one of my one of my greatest hits was Shatas.
- 34:47Speaker 1: I used to sell that thing. I feel like that
- 34:50Speaker 1: might be one of the most bootleg movies of all time.
- 34:52Speaker 3: But it involved Jamaican's.
- 34:57Speaker 1: How accurate of like a depicted is that of like
- 34:59Speaker 1: that era of Kingston?
- 35:02Speaker 3: It was spot on. Yeah, you see the part where
- 35:05Speaker 3: it was where we were when I was in the movie.
- 35:10Speaker 2: They were walking through that and there's a dude the
- 35:12Speaker 2: neck color and like a moha Like we had some
- 35:17Speaker 2: people in dance looking like that, Like it was like
- 35:20Speaker 2: some punk rock stuff.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Even in Belly there was the random dude with the
- 35:24Speaker 1: orange mohawk.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so so those things is just like a spot
- 35:29Speaker 2: a spot on.
- 35:30Speaker 3: You know what I mean, the talking, the lingue between people.
- 35:36Speaker 3: You know, it was it was spot on.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Yo, tell me about because every once in a while
- 35:42Speaker 1: something will go viral on TikTok with the Dagger in
- 35:47Speaker 1: which some of the most extreme wild dancing you'll ever
- 35:51Speaker 1: see people jumping from like a balcony like.
- 35:59Speaker 3: It's part of part of the culture that came about
- 36:02Speaker 3: after I was you know what I mean.
- 36:04Speaker 1: This is yeah, yeah, you've been out.
- 36:06Speaker 3: And I'm like, yo, I get it, but I'm not.
- 36:08Speaker 3: I'm not getting into it, like love it. It is crazy.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I've seen people come over with cuts and scrapes and
- 36:15Speaker 2: you know, bloody knees. But I mean, I'm going to
- 36:18Speaker 2: introduce you to someone. I'm not sure if you you
- 36:20Speaker 2: may know him. His name is Shelly Belly. I haven't
- 36:23Speaker 2: heard him.
- 36:23Speaker 3: So Shelly Belly is crazy.
- 36:25Speaker 2: You could go on his his Instagram because every night
- 36:29Speaker 2: you got some moves.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Man.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Just he's like the Master Dagger.
- 36:32Speaker 3: He got to throwing ladies all over the place and
- 36:35Speaker 3: they love it.
- 36:35Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, it's wild.
- 36:39Speaker 3: The ladies that you see.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Him doing this too, they're down with it. They love it,
- 36:43Speaker 2: and he you know, he's a strong dude.
- 36:45Speaker 1: So did you ever go through because you know, the
- 36:49Speaker 1: one thing I always would appreciate about dance hall is
- 36:52Speaker 1: that y'all would do dub plates for people. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:54Speaker 1: and like it was it's like a part of the culture.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Like there's like certain DJs who will have like the
- 36:59Speaker 1: craziest dub plate of a record like that. Like you know,
- 37:02Speaker 1: obviously you could drop out a sound clash or whatever
- 37:04Speaker 1: it mos be like, oh my god, did you come
- 37:06Speaker 1: up doing a.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Lot of those? That was That was the thing.
- 37:09Speaker 2: That's how I got known, Like the first time people
- 37:11Speaker 2: like before that singing in my bathroom, you know what
- 37:14Speaker 2: I mean. And you go to a sound system, my
- 37:17Speaker 2: brothers sound system. They needed some doves. They're like, yo,
- 37:20Speaker 2: come sing So so that's Copper Shot sound System, And
- 37:24Speaker 2: you know, I'd be in the bathroom with a mic
- 37:27Speaker 2: with a Suzi phone.
- 37:28Speaker 3: They press play and record and I do my thing.
- 37:31Speaker 2: And then you know, started doing for other sound systems
- 37:34Speaker 2: like Renaissance and Syndicate and eventually Stole in Love and
- 37:38Speaker 2: the big sound systems in Jamaica.
- 37:40Speaker 1: For people who don't know on the States, explain what
- 37:42Speaker 1: the sound system is.
- 37:43Speaker 3: The sound system is a group of like a team
- 37:45Speaker 3: of dudes who are DJ's and MC's and they got
- 37:49Speaker 3: the record boxes and the speaker boxes.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Because there's a whole play about them speakers in Jamaica.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Man, yeah, I mean, when you think about it, our
- 37:57Speaker 2: music was born through that. You know, back in the thirties,
- 38:00Speaker 2: apparently they had public radio that would just be playing radio,
- 38:04Speaker 2: and they were our people who produced our own music
- 38:07Speaker 2: couldn't get heard on these radio streams. So what they
- 38:11Speaker 2: did was to build their own speaker boxes and play
- 38:14Speaker 2: in the street, like just play live. And so that's
- 38:18Speaker 2: how sound system culture started. And there's many sound sisters
- 38:22Speaker 2: in Jamaica. So it's like street DJs with their own
- 38:25Speaker 2: whole club, you know what I mean. They got lights,
- 38:27Speaker 2: they got sound system, they got you know, the speakers,
- 38:31Speaker 2: the techniques everything. So yeah, my brother came up with
- 38:37Speaker 2: a sound system from me was in eighth grade. They
- 38:40Speaker 2: just used to take the weekends and play at their
- 38:42Speaker 2: French parties and that kind of stuff. And we were
- 38:45Speaker 2: playing all the latest hip hop because we loved it,
- 38:48Speaker 2: you know. And then we were playing all the latest
- 38:50Speaker 2: dance all because those are that's all Jamaica's party. We
- 38:54Speaker 2: love reggae, but when it's party in time, when it's
- 38:57Speaker 2: like turn up time is more dance all for me
- 38:59Speaker 2: is actually my generation. So and then what was I
- 39:03Speaker 2: saying about the sound system? Uh, just the whole culture.
- 39:09Speaker 2: You know, it's huge and and and it's a part
- 39:12Speaker 2: of the reason why you know, that's how we used
- 39:16Speaker 2: to break our records to the people in the streets,
- 39:19Speaker 2: and then the radio started to pay attention to us.
- 39:22Speaker 3: So it's how the music started.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So you h this new record is going crazy Ginger
- 39:27Speaker 1: and there's a new sing are you? Is there a
- 39:28Speaker 1: follow up coming before the end of the year? Top
- 39:30Speaker 1: of the year?
- 39:31Speaker 3: I think top of the year? Yeah, Ginger is definitely
- 39:33Speaker 3: the track right now.
- 39:35Speaker 2: It's been one of the furthest moving tracks for a
- 39:38Speaker 2: while for me. And I appreciate everybody listening and locking
- 39:42Speaker 2: on and saying, yo, we still look young and fresh
- 39:44Speaker 2: and we look good on music, sound good seeing me
- 39:47Speaker 2: on device.
- 39:47Speaker 3: But yeah, thank you. I appreciate that.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Yeah, man, I mean, you've had a crazy year.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Man, much much much to do? Bro?
- 39:55Speaker 1: Yes, are you are you living in Jamaica? Are living
- 39:57Speaker 1: here Jamaica?
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 39:58Speaker 1: Oh, that's such a bout from country man. Thank you invited, Bro,
- 40:01Speaker 1: you come to I'm spoiled with the weed here we
- 40:05Speaker 1: got here is different.
- 40:06Speaker 3: It is, but we got good weed there.
- 40:07Speaker 2: I meant on the beach we dipped for a time.
- 40:11Speaker 1: We did, and then I went to one of the farms,
- 40:13Speaker 1: which was cool to see. Yeah, but I feel like, man,
- 40:16Speaker 1: this is against California weed. They it's got so much.
- 40:18Speaker 3: It is and you know what, you know, what did
- 40:20Speaker 3: happen to us?
- 40:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you for all the weed heads who know,
- 40:24Speaker 2: like there was cross pollination that happened because we had
- 40:27Speaker 2: a strain in the late eighties, early nineties or even
- 40:30Speaker 2: late nineties that was awesome because it could take our
- 40:33Speaker 2: humidity and you usually what was the strain called There's
- 40:38Speaker 2: Lamb's Bread was one of them because a couple of
- 40:39Speaker 2: different ones.
- 40:40Speaker 3: But the strains that do that people did get.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Because dispensary started to come up, or the talk of
- 40:49Speaker 2: dispensary started to come up, so people wanted all these
- 40:52Speaker 2: different strains and they were cross parlinnat And now we
- 40:55Speaker 2: kind of lost a good weed for a while. I
- 40:57Speaker 2: don't know where it went, but yeah, weed now it's growing.
- 40:59Speaker 1: By what I tell everybody, I'm like, yo, man, as
- 41:01Speaker 1: long as it gets you high, who gives a fuck
- 41:03Speaker 1: what it smells like, what it looks like.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Well, sometimes you know you don't want to know ship
- 41:07Speaker 3: You know.
- 41:07Speaker 1: You don't want ship weed. I'm just saying, like right,
- 41:09Speaker 1: hip hop, we're so spoiled, Yeah, us to enjoy it
- 41:13Speaker 1: because when it's I was like candy, it's gotta smell.
- 41:17Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, it does it? I just want some
- 41:18Speaker 1: O G cush for sake.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:21Speaker 1: We love the guests, So you do the splits with
- 41:23Speaker 1: the tobacco leaf.
- 41:24Speaker 3: We do. We do.
- 41:25Speaker 2: No, I don't do the tobacco leave, well we do.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Me and my brother we do put you know, like
- 41:31Speaker 2: we use.
- 41:31Speaker 3: The guests the O G cush in the paper, Yeah,
- 41:35Speaker 3: in the paper okay, and then we sprinkle some we
- 41:38Speaker 3: called rosin. Oh yeah, and some diamonds on it.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Oh you're guy. Yeah, Oh my god, rosing and diamonds.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Yeah, we're floating when it's a esp floating. Don't provoke him.
- 41:53Speaker 3: God the weed where we smoking, he's soaking.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Let's go, Sean paul Man, I appreciate you pulling up.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Brother, appreciate it, sir. Thank you much of
