- 0:07Speaker 1: I Never told you, production by Hurt Radio.
- 0:18Speaker 2: And welcome to another edition of Happy Hour. If you're
- 0:22Speaker 2: doing things happy hour ish, do so responsibly because we
- 0:26Speaker 2: love you and we want you to be happy and
- 0:28Speaker 2: responsible and healthy.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Am I right? Yes? Okay, Annie, are you doing happy
- 0:33Speaker 3: hourish things?
- 0:35Speaker 1: Nope? Because I forgot we were doing a happy hour today.
- 0:39Speaker 3: We just look peak behind the closet. We're trying to
- 0:41Speaker 3: do things very quickly.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Because behind the closet.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Well, I'm in the closet. Literally, that's true.
- 0:46Speaker 1: That's true.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Peak behind the curtains, slash in the closet, because I
- 0:50Speaker 2: am both behind a curtain and in a closet. This
- 0:52Speaker 2: has already gone all right anyway, peek behind the curtains, closet.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We are doing this in a like pretty advance yes time.
- 1:01Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, so we are trying to get ahead.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Both of us are also trying to be healthy. So
- 1:08Speaker 2: any you've got your hot water.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Oh, I mean it's warm water, but yeah.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Warm water. Yeah. Do you do that with lemon? We
- 1:15Speaker 3: talked about this before.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Normally I do, but sometimes it makes me nauseated. Sometimes
- 1:23Speaker 1: it's like it's which is interesting because it's supposed to
- 1:25Speaker 1: vitamin SEE and lemon and it is supposed to help
- 1:27Speaker 1: you absorb water more easily. So a lot of times
- 1:31Speaker 1: I like to put it in the water, but it's
- 1:32Speaker 1: something about the hot water. And sometimes I put like
- 1:34Speaker 1: cinnamon and ginger in there. It feels like it drives
- 1:37Speaker 1: me out.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Cinnamon is too much to me.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I don't usually put cinnamon in there, but sometimes I do.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Honey.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Maybe yeah, So I actually have my throat coat tea
- 1:47Speaker 2: which I've been adding a little a tablespoon of apple
- 1:50Speaker 2: cider vinegar. Apparently that gives you like good healing stuff
- 1:54Speaker 2: with your voices.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Maybe maybe it's like that. We're not for sure, but
- 1:58Speaker 3: it's not bad for you, so why not try it?
- 2:01Speaker 2: So I was like, Okay, I'll do it in my
- 2:03Speaker 2: bubble water because I that is my happy hourish things
- 2:06Speaker 2: now because I am old and just looking at alcohol
- 2:09Speaker 2: makes me sleepy and get a headache.
- 2:11Speaker 3: So we're doing great.
- 2:13Speaker 2: I have to prepare for things like that, but you know,
- 2:17Speaker 2: my bubble water it makes me pretty happy. I feel
- 2:19Speaker 2: like I'm having a party because it's bubbly. Am I
- 2:22Speaker 2: right hip for you?
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yeah? Sure? Okay, you know what, We're going to move on.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And if you like having parties, if you like doing
- 2:30Speaker 2: fun things and celebrating, I feel like you need to
- 2:32Speaker 2: mark your calendars for October second through the seventh, twenty
- 2:36Speaker 2: twenty six, because Annie and I are going on a voyage.
- 2:40Speaker 2: That's right, our friends at Virgin Voyages are bringing us
- 2:43Speaker 2: on for Stuff at Sea, which is a five night
- 2:47Speaker 2: adults only.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Strip that brings the Stuff universe to you if you're
- 2:52Speaker 3: on that voyage.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yes, so ourselves, stuff you should know, as well as
- 2:55Speaker 2: stuff they don't want you to know, will be there
- 2:58Speaker 2: to show you what it's like when we a podcast.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So it's gonna be so much fun. So if you're interested,
- 3:04Speaker 2: pause this, go to Virgin Voyages dot com slash stuff
- 3:09Speaker 2: and check it out and come and join us on
- 3:11Speaker 2: this voyage.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Please.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:13Speaker 2: But with all of that, I think I kind of
- 3:16Speaker 2: wanted to talk about something a little more serious, not
- 3:19Speaker 2: too serious, because I'm talking about I guess what would
- 3:23Speaker 2: be a hobby. And if those who have been along
- 3:25Speaker 2: for this ride know that I have jumped on board
- 3:27Speaker 2: with the Zoomba life, teaching some classes, doing some dancing classes,
- 3:31Speaker 2: and I've had a lot of fun. But one interesting
- 3:34Speaker 2: thing has been sneaking up that I'm going to have
- 3:36Speaker 2: to navigate very seriously. And before I jump in, once again,
- 3:41Speaker 2: this is a pause with a content warning. We are
- 3:45Speaker 2: going to talk about body issues, body shaming, and disorder eating,
- 3:52Speaker 2: all of that. So if that is something that triggers you,
- 3:55Speaker 2: take a pause, come back later, or just skip. Understand
- 4:00Speaker 2: all of that. I've had people, actually, I've had a
- 4:03Speaker 2: lot of people in life comment on my body, especially
- 4:06Speaker 2: in classes like this, especially when they think I look good.
- 4:10Speaker 2: So if they think that I've made progress in like
- 4:13Speaker 2: what they think is a good ideal, like losing weight,
- 4:17Speaker 2: looking healthier, all these things, If my clothes fit differently,
- 4:20Speaker 2: all these things, they immediately comment. And we've talked about
- 4:24Speaker 2: this before, like you and I any have talked about
- 4:27Speaker 2: the fact that we stand on the ground. So like,
- 4:28Speaker 2: even if they have lost weight, even if their goal
- 4:31Speaker 2: is to lose weight, we don't comment. I feel awkward
- 4:36Speaker 2: in doing so because A we don't know why they're
- 4:41Speaker 2: losing weight. It could be a negative thing, it could
- 4:43Speaker 2: be a positive thing. B. We don't know the history
- 4:47Speaker 2: of their routines and hating eating, eating habits and all
- 4:52Speaker 2: of that and see for those who think they've hit
- 4:55Speaker 2: a goal if they ever gain those weight, this weight back,
- 4:58Speaker 2: or any of those things, it is kind of heartbreaking.
- 5:01Speaker 3: And it feels for me.
- 5:03Speaker 2: As someone who has gone up and down, up and
- 5:06Speaker 2: down my weight, it feels really like I failed and
- 5:10Speaker 2: my self esteem it's a new blow when I gain
- 5:13Speaker 2: my weight back. So all of those different things that
- 5:16Speaker 2: I apply to other people in that this is not
- 5:18Speaker 2: something that I want to encourage. Also, if people are
- 5:21Speaker 2: losing weight and doing it unhealthily, I'm worried, and I
- 5:24Speaker 2: don't want to encourage a bad habit that could actually
- 5:27Speaker 2: be harmful for someone. So all those things apply. So
- 5:30Speaker 2: being in an industry that really does champion body looks,
- 5:38Speaker 2: it's one of those things that I'm a little worried
- 5:40Speaker 2: about how to handle one As a leader, I don't
- 5:44Speaker 2: want to see people like I want to encourage people
- 5:46Speaker 2: to move around and exercise. Of course, I want you
- 5:49Speaker 2: to come and have fun. I hope you're sweating, I
- 5:52Speaker 2: hope you're doing all the things that are good for
- 5:54Speaker 2: you in this moment. But also don't want to be like,
- 5:57Speaker 2: oh my god, you look so good. How much weight
- 5:58Speaker 2: have you lost? That's not a narrative that necessarily is
- 6:02Speaker 2: talking about a success in something we don't again know why.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So that's something that I've had to be careful and
- 6:08Speaker 2: mindful above. But at the same time, it also is
- 6:12Speaker 2: for someone who feel like they do have a good
- 6:14Speaker 2: handle on their health and are making progress that includes
- 6:18Speaker 2: weight loss, and that is a goal for them, they
- 6:21Speaker 2: may feel just as disappointed in me for not acknowledging it.
- 6:27Speaker 3: So I have.
- 6:28Speaker 2: This moment of like, Okay, I don't know what to
- 6:30Speaker 2: do with that one. Two people coming to comment, I'm
- 6:36Speaker 2: not trying to lose weight. There's a part of me
- 6:39Speaker 2: and there will always be a part of me. There
- 6:40Speaker 2: will always be a part of me that I wish
- 6:42Speaker 2: I didn't have, and I wish I had more confidence
- 6:45Speaker 2: than that wants to lose weight. That feels like I
- 6:47Speaker 2: need to lose fifty pounds because I am not where
- 6:50Speaker 2: I should be according to the standards and the standards
- 6:54Speaker 2: being held up by white supremacy patriarchy. We know this,
- 6:59Speaker 2: but I feel like, as someone who was at the
- 7:01Speaker 2: front and telling people how to exercise, I'm also disappointing
- 7:05Speaker 2: other people. I have had four different people since this
- 7:10Speaker 2: moment come and talk to me about my body, and
- 7:15Speaker 2: it's not like all telling me I'm fat or anything.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I had one person come to me two or three
- 7:20Speaker 2: times who was selling a pyramid scheme. Don't get me wrong.
- 7:24Speaker 3: They looked happy.
- 7:26Speaker 2: They you can tell they work on their body and
- 7:29Speaker 2: they that's their life.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Obviously they're doing a pyramid scheme.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Coming to tell me how much more successful I would
- 7:35Speaker 2: be if I was thinner, if I had more muscle,
- 7:38Speaker 2: if I didn't jiggle here, and she pointed out where
- 7:40Speaker 2: I was jiggling and gave me supplement packets to put
- 7:44Speaker 2: in my water, and then talk to people around my class.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And I'm like, I don't want you to talk to
- 7:49Speaker 2: people around my class because if I did not have
- 7:52Speaker 2: a good better self esteem right now, which I don't
- 7:54Speaker 2: have great self esteem, but I'm older, older now and
- 7:57Speaker 2: I have better handle and you were telling me is
- 8:00Speaker 2: at like twenty years ago, I probably would quit.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Even though she's been in my class multiple times and
- 8:07Speaker 2: loves it, m h so like, and she even has
- 8:10Speaker 2: a hard time keeping up with me, I will. I mean,
- 8:12Speaker 2: I'm not trying to bribe, but like in some of
- 8:13Speaker 2: the things that I do, She's like, oh, okay, so
- 8:16Speaker 2: like if it feels odd. I had another woman come
- 8:19Speaker 2: and to tell me I have no butt, and I
- 8:20Speaker 2: was like, I know this.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I am Asian.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I am all hips and legs with no booty. I
- 8:25Speaker 2: really wish I could change that. I was like, Okay,
- 8:28Speaker 2: I don't know what to do with that comment. I
- 8:30Speaker 2: make jokes about it myself. I am insecure because some
- 8:33Speaker 2: of the moves that I try to do do require
- 8:35Speaker 2: a little booty.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Okay, you know you've been there.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I've had another woman telling me, oh, you look like
- 8:43Speaker 2: you're finally losing some of that gut, and I'm like, nope.
- 8:46Speaker 3: This is a different shirt. Thank you, I guests.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And then I've not had another woman telling me, like
- 9:05Speaker 2: again the weights that I should be using or the
- 9:08Speaker 2: other exercises, and honestly they're not wrong. Like I know,
- 9:12Speaker 2: when it comes to like me, aging because I am
- 9:15Speaker 2: aging muscle is very important in order to like make
- 9:21Speaker 2: sure my body doesn't break, because I feel like my
- 9:22Speaker 2: body's gonna break at any moment a lot of the times,
- 9:25Speaker 2: because whether it's arthritis, whether it's because of perimenopause, or
- 9:29Speaker 2: whether it's just because you know you overuse it. Or
- 9:32Speaker 2: use it the wrong way. Muscle is important, buildings, muscle
- 9:36Speaker 2: and mass like that is important. So I'm like, yeah, dude,
- 9:38Speaker 2: really here need to be weightlifting or doing something in
- 9:41Speaker 2: those types of realms. But it's interesting to have people
- 9:45Speaker 2: more comfortably common to me these comments. And I don't
- 9:49Speaker 2: know what to do with it because it has slowly
- 9:51Speaker 2: started to sleep in Annie like it's all slowly coming
- 9:55Speaker 2: in in which I'm like, I buy it different clothes.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I need to buy something that either hides it better
- 10:00Speaker 2: or looks better or something because there's something that people
- 10:02Speaker 2: are noticing or a few people are noticing that I
- 10:05Speaker 2: need to change apparently, or I need to Yeah, I've
- 10:10Speaker 2: going back to counting a few calories. I'm like, it's
- 10:14Speaker 2: not necessarily a bad thing learning to be healthy, so
- 10:18Speaker 2: making sure I get just the most enough protein with
- 10:21Speaker 2: the amount of all these things. But I also know
- 10:23Speaker 2: I can get obsessive in that and it stops me
- 10:27Speaker 2: from eating when I need to. I've also talked about
- 10:29Speaker 2: the fact that I finally come to a point of
- 10:32Speaker 2: not loving my body. Unfortunately. I wish I could appreciate
- 10:35Speaker 2: my body more. And then we talked about this on
- 10:37Speaker 2: and off. Mic many a times because we've I'm recognizing
- 10:41Speaker 2: how much my body did for me and it is
- 10:43Speaker 2: doing for me at a younger age. Like as I'm
- 10:46Speaker 2: starting to hurt more, I was like, man, I wish
- 10:48Speaker 2: I'd have done these things previously or having the confidence previously,
- 10:53Speaker 2: but like it still weighs like that on me, in like, Okay,
- 10:58Speaker 2: obviously these are the things that still need to change,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and I need to change them now before my metabolism
- 11:03Speaker 2: he hits the wall apparently according to all the people
- 11:07Speaker 2: that are telling me so, and science some science, and
- 11:11Speaker 2: there's a lot of like weight management programs that will
- 11:14Speaker 2: want to make money off of me.
- 11:16Speaker 3: But I have I've become more comfortable.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I feel like the way I dress feels more appropriate
- 11:20Speaker 2: to me, and I feel more comfortable in wearing the
- 11:22Speaker 2: things I'm wearing. I finally am taking pictures of myself
- 11:25Speaker 2: and not hating every single one of them, you know,
- 11:28Speaker 2: seeing myself on social media if any of y'all follow
- 11:31Speaker 2: me on my Zooma page, I hate it with a passion.
- 11:36Speaker 2: And one thing, my people, my Zooma people know, if
- 11:39Speaker 2: they've known me from classes that are taken with them,
- 11:41Speaker 2: they know I hate.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Being in pictures.
- 11:43Speaker 2: I despise it, and I will purposely make goofy looking
- 11:47Speaker 2: faces so that I don't have to be in pictures
- 11:49Speaker 2: or I don't have to take it too seriously. My
- 11:51Speaker 2: partner does knows this and he hates it. He's like,
- 11:53Speaker 2: he won't let me take a pretty picture. I'm like,
- 11:54Speaker 2: I don't like him. I don't like any pictures of myself.
- 11:57Speaker 2: So it's really gotten to a point like I was
- 12:01Speaker 2: good and I'm still okay, but I can tell this
- 12:05Speaker 2: could be a problem in the future conversations. I can
- 12:08Speaker 2: tell as I am and watching other people come into
- 12:12Speaker 2: my class and trying to navigate how to handle their
- 12:16Speaker 2: health as well as their mental health as well as
- 12:19Speaker 2: their self esteem. I have some amazing people in my
- 12:22Speaker 2: class who you would think who may not meet the standards,
- 12:25Speaker 2: but they get it, and I'm like, that's helping to me.
- 12:29Speaker 2: But then I also have the same people who've worked
- 12:31Speaker 2: all their lives trying to get to a certain goal
- 12:35Speaker 2: and now have found medications that assist them, but they
- 12:39Speaker 2: seem they can't exercise anymore honestly because it actually has
- 12:42Speaker 2: messed with their heart, which several of my people who
- 12:46Speaker 2: have been in classes have had to stop because of
- 12:48Speaker 2: that going to classes, and they choose to stop going
- 12:51Speaker 2: to classes, but they're not happy because they miss those classes.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Like those types of people as well.
- 12:56Speaker 2: But also at the same time, I know this is
- 12:58Speaker 2: something as a person who I have struggle with my weight,
- 13:00Speaker 2: struggled with my body, have been thinking about as well,
- 13:05Speaker 2: have been dreaming, have dreamt of that perfect body and
- 13:09Speaker 2: what the standards have told me. For a flip, like
- 13:14Speaker 2: six months, I had that, you know, because well buttrin,
- 13:18Speaker 2: that will get yeah, just FYI. Then it started making
- 13:23Speaker 2: my heart race. I was like, no, thank you, but
- 13:26Speaker 2: like and I wasn't taking it for at that time.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I wasn't taking it for weight management.
- 13:31Speaker 2: It was because of my depression, which was pretty severe
- 13:34Speaker 2: at the time. So like all of these things that
- 13:36Speaker 2: kind of came through and I was like, oh, maybe
- 13:38Speaker 2: this is what it was. It felt like an accomplishment
- 13:44Speaker 2: to be at that point. So when I lost that,
- 13:47Speaker 2: which felt like a loss because of COVID, because of
- 13:51Speaker 2: everything that went down, like that changed all of our
- 13:55Speaker 2: way of being and just being content because I was
- 13:58Speaker 2: taking well buttrin because I was severely depressed. So when
- 14:02Speaker 2: I stopped being severely depressed and realized I was affecting
- 14:04Speaker 2: my heart. I stopped taking it obviously, and that changed everything,
- 14:10Speaker 2: you know, Like my unhappiness fueled my weight loss. I
- 14:14Speaker 2: would rather be happy, yeah, and chunky, But I also know,
- 14:20Speaker 2: and I've been to the doctor. My cholesterol is good,
- 14:23Speaker 2: my heart rate is good, my blood pressure is good.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Like outside of what the chart says my being my
- 14:28Speaker 2: is obese, but everything else on the chart is good,
- 14:34Speaker 2: you know. So like it's all this level, and obviously
- 14:36Speaker 2: I'm moving. I work out five to seven days a week,
- 14:40Speaker 2: an hour intensively, like it's and I don't we don't
- 14:43Speaker 2: slow down. Like I have had people coming like, oh,
- 14:45Speaker 2: you're one of those that keep going. I'm like, yeah,
- 14:47Speaker 2: all the way to the end.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Like that's because I love the dance or I love
- 14:52Speaker 2: the movements, so all of these things. But it is
- 14:55Speaker 2: really odd, No, it's not really odd. It's really complicated
- 15:00Speaker 2: and trying to balance this narrative in an industry that
- 15:06Speaker 2: has really skewed standards and also having those standards pushed
- 15:12Speaker 2: on me as where before I was at least just
- 15:14Speaker 2: a student, right, but being at the front, it feels different,
- 15:20Speaker 2: and I'm not really sure how to fully navigate this.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it is complicated, and now you feel like you
- 15:31Speaker 1: know you've got the lightest on you and that's We've
- 15:35Speaker 1: discussed this in other episodes too, but that can be
- 15:38Speaker 1: really hard in terms of just whatever decision you make
- 15:44Speaker 1: or how you look and knowing that people are going
- 15:48Speaker 1: to maybe be inspired by that or think, oh, it's
- 15:54Speaker 1: okay if I look like this, or oh it's not
- 15:56Speaker 1: okay if I look like this and have And it's
- 16:00Speaker 1: pretty wild to meet some of these comments received, but
- 16:03Speaker 1: having it be like apparently acceptable. I sometimes I wonder
- 16:11Speaker 1: because the weight loss and fitness industry so long has
- 16:15Speaker 1: been women specifically, you need to look a certain way,
- 16:21Speaker 1: and sometimes I wonder, Well, no, I know it's true,
- 16:26Speaker 1: but I always have a when I ever, whenever I
- 16:29Speaker 1: get a comment like that, I'm like, are you is
- 16:32Speaker 1: this a cut down to make yourself feel better? What
- 16:35Speaker 1: is this because you feel insecure? Yeah?
- 16:39Speaker 3: This is the thing. Is like most of these comments. Now, again,
- 16:42Speaker 3: the parramids game was obvious.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's trying to get me to join her thing.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It still was like grating because I'm like, I need
- 16:51Speaker 2: you to stop.
- 16:51Speaker 3: I need you to stop.
- 17:03Speaker 2: The other comments were people that genuinely think they're giving
- 17:06Speaker 2: me compliments or good advice. And that's the other part
- 17:09Speaker 2: that throws me off to that that I'm like and
- 17:12Speaker 2: one person, because who I do know pretty well who
- 17:14Speaker 2: said that comment to me is someone who has screaming
- 17:19Speaker 2: body issues, constantly talks about how much she doesn't like
- 17:21Speaker 2: these things and he doesn't like these things. And when
- 17:23Speaker 2: I when I was young, younger, I was this and
- 17:25Speaker 2: this like obvious that this new woman is different. But
- 17:29Speaker 2: she prides herself on pushing the boundaries and she's like,
- 17:32Speaker 2: you know, you see me out there, I'm working out
- 17:33Speaker 2: and I'm gonna come in and do it like that's
- 17:35Speaker 2: herd thing. But I don't know her very well, but
- 17:38Speaker 2: to her, that was a compliment.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and that makes sense. And actually I almost re
- 17:44Speaker 1: ran this episode as a classic recently because I've been
- 17:47Speaker 1: having similar thoughts. But we did one. We did an
- 17:50Speaker 1: episode on the problem of complimenting people's body weight or
- 17:55Speaker 1: weight loss specifically, and I've discussed on here. I have
- 17:59Speaker 1: multiple friends who are on Ozimpic or something like it,
- 18:02Speaker 1: and they are losing weight, but they also know my
- 18:07Speaker 1: problems with it. But I was very vocal about it
- 18:11Speaker 1: before they started taking it right, So I feel like
- 18:13Speaker 1: it would be incredibly disingenuous of me to be like, oh,
- 18:18Speaker 1: congrat you, right, But also I know it's important to them,
- 18:23Speaker 1: and I don't want it. I don't want to make
- 18:25Speaker 1: it about me. So it's a similar issue where I'm
- 18:28Speaker 1: in my head about about it. I feel healthy and
- 18:32Speaker 1: you're doing it healthily, and it's then great, But I'm
- 18:37Speaker 1: not going to compliment the weight loss part. I think
- 18:39Speaker 1: I'm just not going to do it.
- 18:41Speaker 3: And there's a balance in everything.
- 18:43Speaker 2: We talked about this before, because we've talked about what's
- 18:46Speaker 2: healthy versus unhealthy, and that's the conversation what we need
- 18:49Speaker 2: to have. What is your body telling you? Is it healthy?
- 18:53Speaker 2: Are you not healthy? Do you need to change things?
- 18:55Speaker 2: Is it mentally healthy? Is it mental health? You know,
- 18:57Speaker 2: like those all of those conversations should be in play,
- 19:01Speaker 2: but instead the conversation is what people see. And then
- 19:06Speaker 2: like championing people who are body positive that may be
- 19:10Speaker 2: technically larger on those standards, but maybe they're doing it
- 19:14Speaker 2: unhealthily too, so like you don't want to encourage that either,
- 19:18Speaker 2: like if their entire meals or I don't know, talking
- 19:22Speaker 2: about eating big macs all the time, and obviously seeing
- 19:26Speaker 2: how your health designs, and you give big macs to
- 19:29Speaker 2: like sports stars who come to celebrate their wins with
- 19:35Speaker 2: you as their victory meal, because that's what you like.
- 19:37Speaker 2: That's the only thing you like, and that's all you eat.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Maybe we should have a conversation about what your health is, sir.
- 19:44Speaker 2: But like, but like, if you're truly there's so many
- 19:48Speaker 2: healthy people who would be considered big, like people who
- 19:51Speaker 2: are vegetarians and true vegetarians that eat like all the
- 19:56Speaker 2: vegetables all the time, you know what I mean, Like
- 19:57Speaker 2: they are fiber full, like they are e and they
- 20:01Speaker 2: not hit the scale of the standard. Like that's just
- 20:04Speaker 2: to me, Like that's amazing. And we know there are
- 20:09Speaker 2: many people who would be considered plus size who are
- 20:13Speaker 2: very healthy and will outlive everyone as they expected because
- 20:17Speaker 2: what they're doing is healthy. But at the same time,
- 20:20Speaker 2: like we also see the skinny people who are like
- 20:24Speaker 2: you are not eating what you should be.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I've met a many.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Of skinny people only ate candy because they're like, I'd
- 20:31Speaker 2: rather have one candy bar and need nothing for the
- 20:33Speaker 2: rest of the day. Yeah, so that I can maintain
- 20:36Speaker 2: my calories. That is severely unhealthy. You're probably malnourished, yeah,
- 20:42Speaker 2: And are you happy yeah yeah, and probably hypoglycemic yep.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:48Speaker 1: And I think that is a really good point that
- 20:51Speaker 1: I constantly have to remind myself of, is that healthy
- 20:55Speaker 1: looks different on different people. If you're always comparing yourself
- 20:59Speaker 1: to someone else, you're going to be unhappy. And I
- 21:03Speaker 1: think that when you find what your health is like,
- 21:07Speaker 1: what it looks like, and how you can maintain it
- 21:09Speaker 1: and be happy, then that is an accomplishment. That is
- 21:12Speaker 1: something that should be celebrated.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Exactly, and also just as a reminder, happiness is not consistent.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Yes, yes, you know what I mean.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Like one day I'm great with my body. The next
- 21:25Speaker 2: day I hate everything and I just want to crawl
- 21:27Speaker 2: into a hole, you know, And like this is the
- 21:31Speaker 2: part of me. I count the fact that I am
- 21:34Speaker 2: more happy than not. I count that I'm more content
- 21:39Speaker 2: than not yeah, as a success right now.
- 21:43Speaker 3: But obviously I have my off days, especially when I.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Get comments like that and I'm like, what, yeah, do
- 21:48Speaker 2: I do about this? Because again, just like a lot
- 21:53Speaker 2: of people, I think we all know this. My body
- 21:56Speaker 2: comes back to a specific weight. Ever since I've turned
- 21:59Speaker 2: twenty five. I think I was at one weight. Anytime
- 22:03Speaker 2: I would lose weight, anytime, I would do whatever, anytime
- 22:06Speaker 2: I deprived my body of food and calories and then
- 22:10Speaker 2: come back to my regular eating. And I mean regular
- 22:12Speaker 2: eating what you would be considered under or within the
- 22:15Speaker 2: calorie count.
- 22:16Speaker 3: I'm at the same weight and it's just bigger. Yeah,
- 22:20Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 22:21Speaker 2: So I'm like, and I usually don't go beyond that. Yeah,
- 22:25Speaker 2: So that tells me this is where my body is
- 22:27Speaker 2: comfortable at.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, mine was the same. I had to work
- 22:31Speaker 1: so hard to look the standard thin body, and I
- 22:38Speaker 1: would accomplish it, but I had to work so hard, right,
- 22:41Speaker 1: it was exhausting.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And if I if I just kind of ate healthily
- 22:46Speaker 1: and didn't think too much about it exercise, I would
- 22:48Speaker 1: go back in the same weight. Yeah.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah. And that's like like I literally for the past
- 22:55Speaker 2: since after COVID and even before COVID, but of course,
- 22:57Speaker 2: like the COVID, I did nothing.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Yeah, on the pandemic and we didn't. I did nothing.
- 23:03Speaker 3: I did nothing.
- 23:04Speaker 2: But after that I would work out three, if not
- 23:07Speaker 2: seven days a week, and in the last three years
- 23:11Speaker 2: it has been h five days a week. Consistently that
- 23:16Speaker 2: I'm working out so and I have not changed body weight,
- 23:20Speaker 2: Like it's obviously like if I'm getting all of that
- 23:23Speaker 2: in right, then my body's saying you're fine.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Yeah, this is where you are, this is who you are.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Deal with it.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah, But it's again the dealing with that part that
- 23:34Speaker 2: is getting back to who like I see myself as
- 23:39Speaker 2: and trying to remain as while I'm being all of
- 23:43Speaker 2: a sudden noted as oh, but you're this, but you're
- 23:45Speaker 2: an instructor, you're a trainer, you should be.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I'll never forget back when I used to
- 23:54Speaker 1: have to moderate YouTube comments on the House Stuff Works videos,
- 23:58Speaker 1: which was a horrible ask. Do not recommend friend of
- 24:03Speaker 1: Joe Holly, who've just recently had a birthday a birthday.
- 24:09Speaker 1: She's a huge runner. She ran all the time, she
- 24:11Speaker 1: did all kinds of stuff, but her body didn't look
- 24:14Speaker 1: like how people envisioned ever runners should look. So she
- 24:17Speaker 1: did a video on running and people under the video
- 24:21Speaker 1: were like, you definitely don't run, that is a lie.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Definitely this, and I'm like, she does.
- 24:24Speaker 3: She does? Come with her a half marilony.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you want to run a half marathon with her.
- 24:32Speaker 1: She's the one who got me into it, right. So
- 24:36Speaker 1: it's just so frustrating and it's so ingrained and it
- 24:41Speaker 1: is hard to not let it get to you. But
- 24:45Speaker 1: but I, yeah, I'm seeing you work out and I'm
- 24:48Speaker 1: very impressed. So well, thank you. And that's again, this
- 24:52Speaker 1: is just something that I'm going to have to navigate.
- 24:54Speaker 1: But I kind of forgot what this looked like. Yeah, alas, yes, okay,
- 25:03Speaker 1: True Scure and Atlanta come to an La Fitness and
